- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Nhall and Scripted. Coming at You, Episode twenty eight.
- 0:22Speaker 1: This is a great one. We can smell the third
- 0:24Speaker 1: round is a coming in Tyson Nash. Absolute standing, great
- 0:28Speaker 1: gap from JD is an awesome guy, obviously a former
- 0:30Speaker 1: player who does really great work for the Arizona Counties
- 0:33Speaker 1: and now the Utah man with funny entertaining. He's got
- 0:36Speaker 1: great stories over the place. Plus let the news when
- 0:38Speaker 1: it comes to the coaching ranks. Adam Foot is now
- 0:40Speaker 1: the man in Vancouver, Rick Taka is now the man
- 0:43Speaker 1: in Philadelphia, and Ken Holland will now be the architect
- 0:46Speaker 1: of the La Kings.
- 0:47Speaker 2: All that, plus Corey Perry. This is forty but we
- 0:50Speaker 2: begin with the Trommee beliefs.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Just an absolute letdown. I mean, the maple leafs are
- 0:55Speaker 1: gonna maple leaf. It's one thing you can count on,
- 0:57Speaker 1: death taxes and the leafs falling apart. In the playoffs,
- 1:00Speaker 1: I fell for Jady three to one in Game three.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I said, this is the year they're about to beat
- 1:05Speaker 1: the defending Stanley Cup champions. They're gonna be the favorite
- 1:07Speaker 1: against the Keynes and the capitals. Then they woke up.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Then they realized that the Troney Police that they can't
- 1:12Speaker 1: do this. The demons, they're on them. They're hulking again,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and they fall down. It's something to lose, my man.
- 1:17Speaker 1: But how do you lose at home? Pivotal Game five,
- 1:20Speaker 1: biggest game in a long time, six to one one
- 1:23Speaker 1: fan throwing their Austin Matthews Jersey onto the ice. We'll
- 1:27Speaker 1: go through each of the big guns falling apart, but
- 1:29Speaker 1: your immediate reacts to Toronto falling apart.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I mean, I'm flabbergasted is a word, because I just can't.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I don't understand how you can come out that flat
- 1:42Speaker 3: for a game like that was as flat as you
- 1:44Speaker 3: could possibly come out in one in the biggest game
- 1:46Speaker 3: of a lot. This Core, you know Core four and
- 1:50Speaker 3: whoever's been around for a long time in this team.
- 1:53Speaker 3: This is one of the biggest moments in the past
- 1:55Speaker 3: ten years easily for this franchise, and that was about us.
- 2:00Speaker 3: You can't come out any flatter like they were not
- 2:03Speaker 3: generating everything. They played scared, they played sitting back on
- 2:06Speaker 3: their heels. They allowed Florida to take it to them,
- 2:09Speaker 3: and it got worse as the game go on got
- 2:11Speaker 3: on it. It wasn't like they wrestled it back and
- 2:14Speaker 3: and and then obviously you couple that with you know,
- 2:17Speaker 3: some unlucky goals. But to say that, what was it
- 2:21Speaker 3: who scored the goals again Mikola Uh? Was it mikolahap
- 2:26Speaker 3: Greer scored like k Blad scored. H there's another d man,
- 2:32Speaker 3: Koulakoff scored. Like to say that these guys are the
- 2:36Speaker 3: ones that took it to you. It wasn't the Barkoffs,
- 2:38Speaker 3: it wasn't the Ryanharts, it wasn't the Sam Bennett's.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It was a Fortre, Florida defenseman.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I mean that's pretty crazy, and I mean Lebrovsky great again,
- 2:47Speaker 1: thirty one saves.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Obviously Sam Bennett scores a six.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But you're right that the three goals in a seven
- 2:52Speaker 1: to fifty three span of the second Peryer that's when
- 2:54Speaker 1: they pulled away.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and again it was bad turnovers.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Uh.
- 2:59Speaker 3: You know, our fearless leader, Bob Bender has been begging
- 3:03Speaker 3: on email for a for a jdpov. He loves, he
- 3:07Speaker 3: loves a jdpov. But you know, we we only get
- 3:10Speaker 3: one clip, So I'll give me a jd I'll give
- 3:11Speaker 3: him a jdpov.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Uh.
- 3:14Speaker 3: That goal that yes, per Boquist goal was ticcative. Yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 3: the puckets rimmed around.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Mitch Marner has time in a playoff series in the
- 3:24Speaker 3: in the playoffs, he has a second or two. So
- 3:27Speaker 3: get your head up and if the play's not there,
- 3:29Speaker 3: you got to chip it up. He turns back. Everybody's
- 3:31Speaker 3: going north. The way that the Toronto ap Leaps want
- 3:35Speaker 3: to play, the way Craig Berube has built the system
- 3:37Speaker 3: is go north, play simple hockey, and then use your
- 3:41Speaker 3: legs and use your skill to create openings in the
- 3:43Speaker 3: neutral zone. He throws a spinner am a backhand pass
- 3:46Speaker 3: to god knows who. Nobody gets turned over in the
- 3:49Speaker 3: neutral zone. And credit to Florida. They've slowly but surely
- 3:52Speaker 3: neutralized the neutral zone, which is a double entender or something.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I don't know what that is. But neutralize the neutral zone,
- 3:58Speaker 3: which you mentioned the other day.
- 3:59Speaker 5: I did.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I told you they've clogged it up. You can't get
- 4:02Speaker 2: through it.
- 4:03Speaker 3: They figured it out, and it and it seems like
- 4:05Speaker 3: Florida just wait. It takes him like two games to
- 4:09Speaker 3: just kind of study the other team, and then they
- 4:11Speaker 3: just kind of clamp down. They did it against Tampa.
- 4:13Speaker 3: They're doing it again this year, credit to their experience.
- 4:17Speaker 3: But then not to mention after that spin around my
- 4:20Speaker 3: backhand pass, which is egregious by Mitch Marner, he then
- 4:23Speaker 3: has the gall to allow Yesperboquist to go to the
- 4:26Speaker 3: back post and not even get a stick on him,
- 4:28Speaker 3: just let him go unencumbered to tap it in. And
- 4:31Speaker 3: Bob's your uncle. I mean, that was one of those.
- 4:33Speaker 3: He looks skyward, he doesn't understand they panned to an
- 4:36Speaker 3: iso of him, and we're all just left wondering why
- 4:39Speaker 3: the hell did he make that decision? Because you know,
- 4:42Speaker 3: for the first series all season, he's been their best player.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I can say it categorically, he has been. He was
- 4:50Speaker 3: their best player this year, and then first round as well,
- 4:53Speaker 3: and then all of a sudden, I don't know what's happened,
- 4:56Speaker 3: if it's injuries or it's something, but he has just
- 4:58Speaker 3: made bad decision after bad decision. He looks disinterested. And
- 5:03Speaker 3: I don't want to use that because I think everybody cares,
- 5:06Speaker 3: but they looked like they just didn't give a shit.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And that's the sad thing because this team has the capabilities.
- 5:12Speaker 3: They won the first two games against Florida. And to
- 5:14Speaker 3: your point, they were up three to one in Game
- 5:17Speaker 3: three and then all of a sudden, it's just been
- 5:18Speaker 3: like an epic collapse. And do I think they can
- 5:22Speaker 3: win in Florida. Yeah, I think they can win in
- 5:23Speaker 3: Florida and can still win this series. But if they
- 5:26Speaker 3: do not win this series, doesn't matter how good they
- 5:28Speaker 3: play in game six or Game seven. If they do
- 5:30Speaker 3: not win in Game seven or and they don't win
- 5:34Speaker 3: this series, everybody's gonna look back to this game. And
- 5:36Speaker 3: this game was just an epic fall. Flat on your face,
- 5:41Speaker 3: egg on the face, whatever else you can throw on
- 5:44Speaker 3: your face, just not good and not good enough and unacceptable.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And it just sucks because you know, I've shit talked
- 5:52Speaker 3: the Lower Bowl in Toronto how it's lifeless and its corporate.
- 5:55Speaker 3: But they didn't give him anything to cheer about tonight.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And yeah, it's ever since Arta Ocal at ESPN, ever
- 6:03Speaker 3: since he he did a crew drawing, like a paint
- 6:06Speaker 3: by numbers drawing of the parade route. After Game two,
- 6:09Speaker 3: they have lost three straight.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I love that cow got great guy score alumni. By
- 6:15Speaker 1: the way, he used to work at the same company
- 6:16Speaker 1: back in Toronto. By the way, earlier in the series.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You were right, Bobby did to look like Bob. Well,
- 6:21Speaker 1: now you just missed the change. It looks shut up.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I mean Charlo did scored for one hundred and forty
- 6:26Speaker 1: three minutes and twenty five seconds.
- 6:27Speaker 3: The great Snow he looks good.
- 6:29Speaker 2: He looks locked in.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, he's it's scary when he's like that dialed in
- 6:32Speaker 3: it you can't. It looks like he's ten feet tall
- 6:36Speaker 3: in there and covers the whole net.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Well, it's pretty amazing too when you look at the
- 6:39Speaker 1: leafs big Star. So Bob is playing great. But Matthew's
- 6:41Speaker 1: ten career second round games, all against Florida zero goals.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Mitch Marner ten career second round games, all against Florida.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Two goals.
- 6:50Speaker 1: John Tavar's fifteen career second round games, three goals. I
- 6:54Speaker 1: know there's plenty of blame to go around, jad I
- 6:56Speaker 1: get it, But it doesn't matter what sport it is.
- 6:58Speaker 1: If your best players don't perform, you're not gonna win, period.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yes, that's that's a irrefutable fact. But the one thing
- 7:07Speaker 3: that really pisses me off in this game specifically, and
- 7:11Speaker 3: I didn't get to it because I wanted to let
- 7:13Speaker 3: you kind of get to those numbers and putting all
- 7:16Speaker 3: that aside. They're up six nothing, there's five six minutes left.
- 7:21Speaker 3: You still have two games left in the series. There
- 7:24Speaker 3: should not be a puck on the ice. It should
- 7:26Speaker 3: just be you trying to get your pound of flesh.
- 7:29Speaker 3: You should be trying to I'm not saying I'm not
- 7:31Speaker 3: advocating to injure people, but you should be borderline cheap shotting,
- 7:36Speaker 3: dirty cheat like you're trying to get in on everybody.
- 7:39Speaker 3: And then you got You could hear on TV Matthew
- 7:42Speaker 3: could chuck yelling at William Neelander after every shift. You
- 7:45Speaker 3: heard it about five times, him saying, weey, you're getting
- 7:48Speaker 3: on the ice. Wheey. Not a fucking guy got up
- 7:51Speaker 3: and said boo, didn't tell Matthew could talk to stop.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Nobody went and jumped him. They just let them kind
- 7:56Speaker 3: of run around. And I'm not saying I'm the toughest
- 7:58Speaker 3: guy in the league, but at least take a run
- 8:00Speaker 3: at him. And then he's following Kneelander around. Mar Shaank
- 8:03Speaker 3: grabbs Kneeland in a headlock. There's no urgency. You have
- 8:06Speaker 3: some guys in the back end. Jake McCabe. You got
- 8:09Speaker 3: Brandon Tannev's who's not the toughest but he can fight.
- 8:12Speaker 3: You got Lorentz, you got these guys. You got Max
- 8:14Speaker 3: Dolemy grab somebody, I don't care who it is. Cross
- 8:18Speaker 3: check them, cross check them. Take a suspension if you
- 8:21Speaker 3: have to turn the tide. Because what that showed me
- 8:25Speaker 3: was a team that's like, oh, this game's over, series
- 8:28Speaker 3: might be over. Good night, We're out of here, and
- 8:30Speaker 3: you just gave all the am If I'm Florida, I'm
- 8:32Speaker 3: in that room being like, these guys are dead in
- 8:35Speaker 3: the water. We got our foots on their throat. All
- 8:37Speaker 3: we gotta do is just press a little bit more
- 8:39Speaker 3: and they're gonna cave. They're gonna conclave like that. They're
- 8:42Speaker 3: gonna concave. Yeah, Pope's poping. They're just gonna cave in
- 8:46Speaker 3: and they're gonna throw in the towel and say woe
- 8:48Speaker 3: is me? And that's what really got me and put
- 8:50Speaker 3: a little uh and just pissed me off. So and uh, yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 3: there we go.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I love it, man, passionate and you're right about it.
- 8:59Speaker 2: It's more than just a superstar players.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And here's what's sock shocking to me, it's a Craik
- 9:04Speaker 1: brew team that Craig Ruby is tough.
- 9:06Speaker 3: We have an update though a little bit. Oilers have
- 9:08Speaker 3: an update.
- 9:09Speaker 2: What do you got?
- 9:10Speaker 3: Casperry Cappenan ends it in overtime.
- 9:13Speaker 2: The Edmonton Oilers are on to this Coverence Finals.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Wow, but they're reviewing it, folks, but I think it's
- 9:22Speaker 3: final overtime recording.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Go back to a forty three am. Go ahead.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we're recording this for fans at home because we're
- 9:29Speaker 3: we love you guys. Yeah, and Stuart Skinner is now
- 9:32Speaker 3: confirmed a second shut out, back to back shutouts. We'll
- 9:35Speaker 3: get back to Berubay and then we'll we'll give but
- 9:39Speaker 3: go to Berubay, go to Brubay and and talk about
- 9:41Speaker 3: Brubay because I wanted to hear that, and then we'll
- 9:43Speaker 3: we'll do some Edmonton stuff.
- 9:45Speaker 1: All I was gonna say is to your point, if
- 9:46Speaker 1: you don't win the battle, at least win the war, right,
- 9:48Speaker 1: so you lose the game.
- 9:49Speaker 2: That happens.
- 9:49Speaker 1: But a Craig Bruby led team, there's one thing you
- 9:51Speaker 1: know about these guys, hard nosed, tough, feisty, send a message.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You're just gonna go out limp like that, like just
- 9:58Speaker 1: like a limp handshake like that. That to me, I'm like,
- 10:00Speaker 1: how is Chief not getting in everybody's face to go
- 10:03Speaker 1: go with there and do something your point. I'm not
- 10:05Speaker 1: saying be dirty, not seeing be reckless, but cine met
- 10:07Speaker 1: this series is not over. We're gonna win game six
- 10:10Speaker 1: and game sevens in our barn and we can do
- 10:12Speaker 1: this like that is just thank out there.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Take a Sealis or something. Guys, get hard Greek porn hard.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Come on, I can't wait till take a sealois and
- 10:27Speaker 1: get Greek hard. You know, only Jason Demeres can mix
- 10:31Speaker 1: like you know, high and low culture in the midst
- 10:33Speaker 1: of like using words like irrefutable and flabbergas and and goal.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Then you can quote see Alex.
- 10:41Speaker 3: And hey listen intelligence baby. All right, Well, for good
- 10:48Speaker 3: or bad, we'll see what the others get confirmed the
- 10:50Speaker 3: means and it's confirm a okay, Oilers done.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Okay before we can't go against the others again, but
- 10:58Speaker 1: Oilther's Stars and we said before Winner of Stars and
- 11:00Speaker 1: Avelantes could win the Stanley Cup. We won't give our
- 11:02Speaker 1: predictions just yet, but hell of a series for the
- 11:04Speaker 1: How about Skinner Pickard was the guy your boy, and
- 11:07Speaker 1: Skinner goes, I got two shutouts for you right here,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm Cy Young all of a sudden incredible.
- 11:13Speaker 3: He's like the Freddie Anderson of the West, Like all
- 11:15Speaker 3: he needs is a little bit of rest. And this
- 11:17Speaker 3: guy comes back kicking. I mean two games in a row. Yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 3: I mean right now, you have to he just wrestle
- 11:25Speaker 3: the game back and I just think, but again, you
- 11:28Speaker 3: can't say enough good things about Calvin Piccard. He comes
- 11:30Speaker 3: in again two years in a row and saves the
- 11:33Speaker 3: oiler seasons, allow the oiler season, allows Stuart Skinner time
- 11:38Speaker 3: to get him himself back into a good mental state,
- 11:42Speaker 3: and he comes out and just plays fantastic hockey. Now,
- 11:47Speaker 3: on the negative side, the Vegas goal of the Knights,
- 11:49Speaker 3: they have a lot of they got to look in
- 11:51Speaker 3: the mirror. I think they got and I'm here's why, Okay,
- 11:55Speaker 3: I'm gonna say why won Aid. I think Aiden Hill
- 11:58Speaker 3: had didn't have his best series. He played great tonight.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I think guys are running him and getting his head
- 12:03Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 12:03Speaker 3: No dred percent, but I think Minnesota Wild took their
- 12:09Speaker 3: pound of flesh from Vegas. They they hit them so
- 12:13Speaker 3: much in that series. I think they wore them down
- 12:15Speaker 3: and it just took a little bit of Edmonton leaning
- 12:18Speaker 3: on them to kind of push them over the edge
- 12:20Speaker 3: because they look banged up. I think Petra Angelo's really hurt.
- 12:24Speaker 3: They were missing Mark Stone. You know, you've Icel who
- 12:28Speaker 3: was kind of by himself, because those are two huge pieces.
- 12:31Speaker 3: I thought Shay Theodore looked timid all series. Brad McNabb's
- 12:34Speaker 3: obviously hurt, So you're missing all of these these key guys.
- 12:38Speaker 3: And I just thought Edmonton's depth and the fact that
- 12:42Speaker 3: they just pounded the shit out of Vegas and it's
- 12:45Speaker 3: kind of listen, Vegas kind of was so they've they've
- 12:48Speaker 3: been so dominant because of their defensive structure, and I
- 12:51Speaker 3: think teams are starting to figure out that they're not
- 12:53Speaker 3: the toughest team, so you can really just lean on them.
- 12:56Speaker 3: And Edmonton took kind of a page out of the
- 12:58Speaker 3: Florida Panthers handbook and just made it really ugly, really dirty,
- 13:02Speaker 3: and again casperry kappen and scores the game winning goal.
- 13:05Speaker 3: This was a series. This is a playoffs that does
- 13:08Speaker 3: not have any of Leon Drysdel and Connor McDavid being
- 13:14Speaker 3: the only guys scoring and producing on this team. This
- 13:16Speaker 3: is by collective. This is an effort by the whole team.
- 13:20Speaker 3: And last year when they got to the finals Edmonton,
- 13:24Speaker 3: it kind of only came in the finals when they
- 13:27Speaker 3: found like that third line of Connor Brown, Yan Mark
- 13:29Speaker 3: and Henrik that really started to be depth scoring for them.
- 13:32Speaker 3: They're getting it super early right now from everybody. So
- 13:35Speaker 3: this is a team that I'm like, I don't think
- 13:38Speaker 3: any of us had Edmonton, let alone Gate let alone
- 13:42Speaker 3: round one, we didn't have any A majority of people
- 13:45Speaker 3: had La but I think everybody had Vegas. And they've
- 13:47Speaker 3: just walked through Vegas like they walked through the Vegas
- 13:51Speaker 3: Golden Knights. Like this was not even close. This wasn't
- 13:55Speaker 3: even a series. This last game was the closest one.
- 13:58Speaker 3: And to see Casperry Kapenan, who was out of the lineup,
- 14:02Speaker 3: comes back in off of an injury and just goes
- 14:05Speaker 3: and scores the game winning goes biggest game of his
- 14:08Speaker 3: career in overtime.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Amazing news, fabutories. We'll talk about it.
- 14:12Speaker 1: By the way, you're pretty loud, still live Canadian team
- 14:15Speaker 1: could win the Stanley Cup.
- 14:16Speaker 3: They were still cooking, baby, we got one one left
- 14:20Speaker 3: out of the three because Winnipeg's fucking dead in the water.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So two more thoughts. A lot of focus on Connor Hallibuck.
- 14:27Speaker 1: By the way, we kept talking about what was gonna
- 14:28Speaker 1: happen in Game four. Well he wasn't horrible, It wasn't great.
- 14:31Speaker 1: They still lost three to one, but they didn't well
- 14:33Speaker 1: we called it right, Yeah, should have been as you
- 14:35Speaker 1: were joking about comedy storting. But how about some love
- 14:37Speaker 1: for Jake Ottinger. Ten goals in his last five games,
- 14:40Speaker 1: that's it. He's been rocks off for the Stars. And
- 14:42Speaker 1: speaking of goalis, you mentioned Freddie Anderson, Caps and Knes.
- 14:45Speaker 1: That could be over Thursday night for Game five. They've
- 14:48Speaker 1: neutralized their offense. Watched it the second most potent offense
- 14:51Speaker 1: the regular season for Freddy Anderson right now, con smythe conversation.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think if Freddy Jake Odinger, we're seeing some
- 15:01Speaker 3: really really great goaltending performer and says and Connor Hellibuk,
- 15:06Speaker 3: unfortunately is not one of those guys who's the odds
- 15:09Speaker 3: on VESNA favored. He's probably gonna run away with it. Potentially,
- 15:12Speaker 3: there was talk that he would win the Heart Trophy,
- 15:15Speaker 3: right and he has just come up, come up, lame again.
- 15:18Speaker 3: And I think the bigger thing is the road. Wow,
- 15:21Speaker 3: the road woes for the Winnipeg Jets. I mean they've
- 15:23Speaker 3: lost nine straight on the road now in the playoffs.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Is that is unacceptable And it's not Listen, it's not
- 15:30Speaker 3: just Connor, Okay, it's the lack of scoring on the road.
- 15:33Speaker 3: They just can't seem to find their rhythm. They can't
- 15:36Speaker 3: seem to find their footing. And I think that they're
- 15:40Speaker 3: so worried about making sure Connor's comfortable back there that
- 15:43Speaker 3: they're forgetting to go out and actually play their game,
- 15:46Speaker 3: which is more of a high potent offense than people think.
- 15:48Speaker 3: And they're just kind of stuck in the middle. And
- 15:52Speaker 3: so yeah, for them, they need to figure that out.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I think they're gonna give their best effort here in
- 15:57Speaker 3: Winnipeg and then it's gonna be what can they do
- 15:59Speaker 3: back on the road. But yeah, to Freddy Anderson, and
- 16:01Speaker 3: to your point, I think arrested Freddy Anderson is one
- 16:05Speaker 3: of the you know, he's a top five goal in
- 16:07Speaker 3: the NHL and can be, and he's showing it. And
- 16:09Speaker 3: listen that the system of Carolina is really ensuring him
- 16:14Speaker 3: that he's not getting a ton of work, but when
- 16:17Speaker 3: he's called upon, he's been rock solid. And I call
- 16:20Speaker 3: it that. It's a little bit weaker in the Metropolitan
- 16:22Speaker 3: for Carolina, and they've had I think an easy two rounds.
- 16:27Speaker 3: You know, I think Jersey was the walking dead and
- 16:30Speaker 3: Washington looks very tired and fatigued after I think a series,
- 16:35Speaker 3: even though it went five against Montreal, that was pretty
- 16:37Speaker 3: taxing on them, and I just think they're running out
- 16:39Speaker 3: of gas. But they're going to probably get Florida or Toronto,
- 16:43Speaker 3: and it's going to be interesting to see Caroline against
- 16:46Speaker 3: Florida Toronto. But this is shaping up to be one
- 16:48Speaker 3: hell of a conference finals on both sides of the coin,
- 16:52Speaker 3: because I was hoping a Carolina team that's often pretty
- 16:55Speaker 3: polarizing with fans because it's like watching paint dry. They're
- 17:00Speaker 3: kind of they got a chip on their shoulder right now.
- 17:02Speaker 3: So and wouldn't it be amazing Meek ran in against
- 17:05Speaker 3: the Carolina Hurricanes, Oh my god, in the finals.
- 17:08Speaker 1: The revenge Tour, I mean, the second round could have
- 17:11Speaker 1: three series ending in five games.
- 17:13Speaker 3: I love that, though let's get to the Hey, let's.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Get the point. You're not gonna come back all the
- 17:17Speaker 2: way and just move on and.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Get to the finals. Let's get let's get this over with.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Like I think the Jets will prolong the inevitable. I
- 17:22Speaker 1: think they win game five. I think they lose Game six.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I don't think the Capitals win Game five. Think the
- 17:26Speaker 1: Kynes will dispatch them in five. But your point, if
- 17:29Speaker 1: you're not gonna win to this, move on just losing five,
- 17:31Speaker 1: don't don't waste my ti.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Here's the thing. The second round for me, I despise
- 17:35Speaker 3: in the NHL playoffs. I love the first round, the
- 17:38Speaker 3: second rounds, the reset, I love the conference finals, and
- 17:40Speaker 3: then of course you gotta you gotta love the finals.
- 17:43Speaker 3: The second round is my least favorite of the four.
- 17:45Speaker 2: That's a fair point.
- 17:46Speaker 3: It's just because, well because there's a lot of teams
- 17:49Speaker 3: that went through like the Battle and I know, you
- 17:51Speaker 3: know that they're unfortunately banged up and they're just like
- 17:55Speaker 3: hanging on. And then if they win that series and
- 17:59Speaker 3: they're really dead for the conference finals and they get
- 18:01Speaker 3: walked through by the team that they face in the
- 18:03Speaker 3: conference finals, so it's like I want those teams kind
- 18:05Speaker 3: of done with. Like I think Vegas is banged up.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I want them, Let's get get rid of him, get Vegas. Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 3: and then you look at Winnipeg and you know Connor's
- 18:14Speaker 3: been bad on the road and horrible on the road.
- 18:17Speaker 3: So I don't want to see him win another round
- 18:19Speaker 3: because I want to see Dallas, who's been a very
- 18:22Speaker 3: solid team. Edmonton a very solid team, Carolina very solid team,
- 18:26Speaker 3: and then Florida a very solid team. As much as
- 18:28Speaker 3: I'd love to see Toronto. Yeah, uh, I don't know
- 18:31Speaker 3: if they can beat They've beat Florida two in a row.
- 18:35Speaker 3: They beat him in the first two games. They got
- 18:36Speaker 3: to do it again.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Chips are down now when child things are gone, get easy.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yeah, great seventies song and speaking of there's no segue really.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Tyson Nash is coming up after this. One of the
- 18:50Speaker 1: great instigators and did a phenomenal job. Right now, the
- 18:53Speaker 1: Utah Mammoth Tusks up with Tyson Nash after this.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Oh our next guest.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks the tenth tour forty seventh
- 19:15Speaker 1: overall in the nineteen ninety four NHL draft. Were playing
- 19:18Speaker 1: three hundred and seventy four NHL games with the Blues
- 19:21Speaker 1: and Coyotes. He became a radio analyst for the Arizona Coyotes.
- 19:24Speaker 1: He has served as a color commentary of the franchise
- 19:26Speaker 1: ever since, including this past season when they came to
- 19:29Speaker 1: Utah as Utah Hockey Club before recent becoming the Utah
- 19:32Speaker 1: Mammothan check on his shirt, tusks up, Tyson, Nash, Great.
- 19:35Speaker 2: To see it, man, thanks so much for the time.
- 19:38Speaker 7: Oh wait, how about that resume? I think everyone just
- 19:41Speaker 7: did you or end after that one, They're like, who.
- 19:44Speaker 1: The hell is the worst resume I've ever I've ever
- 19:48Speaker 1: heard of it?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Way draft, I mean, you name it?
- 19:53Speaker 5: Well, let's go.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Hey, the japan Nippon paper cranes.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Man, we're missing.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I mean, come on, let's start with the name Tyson.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Because I was really pushing hard for the Utah Yetie,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I know the was some cock produce or something. JDC
- 20:06Speaker 1: didn't mind Utah Hockey Club. I said, no way, that's
- 20:08Speaker 1: way too European influence. So I'll take Maybeth.
- 20:10Speaker 2: If that's what we're gonna do, I'll go tusks up.
- 20:12Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Uh?
- 20:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I think everyone was really kind of hoping. I
- 20:17Speaker 7: think including Ryan Smith and Ashley on the Yetti right,
- 20:20Speaker 7: changing the yettis if you if you have to, yes,
- 20:24Speaker 7: but obviously I think there was some restrictions there with
- 20:28Speaker 7: with using the Yetti name, so that it was back
- 20:30Speaker 7: to the drawing board. I love the Utah Hockey Club,
- 20:34Speaker 7: I really did. But that being said, I now that
- 20:39Speaker 7: I've been to Utah. I was there for the the
- 20:43Speaker 7: naming announcement.
- 20:44Speaker 5: I mean it was electric.
- 20:45Speaker 7: The fans, how they've taken to it, the whole tusks
- 20:50Speaker 7: up thing. I mean, just everyone jumping on board, and
- 20:53Speaker 7: then obviously everyone that bought I mean, and I'm talking
- 20:57Speaker 7: like the hockey fans in Utah. It is electric, you guys,
- 21:01Speaker 7: I mean, JD, you've been there yet from day one,
- 21:04Speaker 7: I mean, and it was like that from day one
- 21:06Speaker 7: to the last day of the season to the naming
- 21:08Speaker 7: rights announcement, everyone was just overloading a store, buying up
- 21:14Speaker 7: everything they possibly could. Now with Mammoth right, so it's
- 21:18Speaker 7: actually kind of genius. Everyone bought the Utah stuff and
- 21:21Speaker 7: now they're all buying the Mammoth stuff all over again.
- 21:24Speaker 5: So it's working. They're excited about it, and I kind
- 21:28Speaker 5: of like it.
- 21:29Speaker 7: It fits all.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Right, Tyson. How about the draft?
- 21:31Speaker 1: I know people are talking with the Islanders going up
- 21:32Speaker 1: from ten to one, but Utah you go from fourteenth
- 21:35Speaker 1: to fourth. How exciting is that for the team?
- 21:38Speaker 5: Massive? It's a game changer. I know when had happened.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Ryan Smith immediately blew up my phone. He's like, this
- 21:46Speaker 4: is an absolute game changer. We have a massive.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Bullet in the chamber. You know whether you're going to
- 21:52Speaker 5: use it? Draft up?
- 21:53Speaker 4: I mean, there's so many options, right, but again, you
- 21:57Speaker 4: can't help them go back to Arizona, right and go
- 22:00Speaker 4: it never happened.
- 22:01Speaker 5: We never moved up in the draft. I mean sure,
- 22:04Speaker 5: I mean.
- 22:05Speaker 4: We tried to lose in Arizona and we even we
- 22:08Speaker 4: couldn't even lose right, right. But now Utah they get
- 22:13Speaker 4: they get a chance to move up ten spots in
- 22:16Speaker 4: the draft. And I know, talking to Bill Armstrong at
- 22:19Speaker 4: the naming reveal, he I mean, he.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Couldn't take the smile off his face.
- 22:23Speaker 4: He's like, we were looking at players, obviously good players,
- 22:25Speaker 4: but at fourteen it's a different animal at four right,
- 22:29Speaker 4: So now it's going to make a significant impact with
- 22:33Speaker 4: where this team wants to go, and they want to
- 22:36Speaker 4: get there quickly.
- 22:37Speaker 5: I can promise you that Ryan Smith he wants to go.
- 22:40Speaker 5: He's got a split on the gas title.
- 22:42Speaker 4: He wants this rebuild to end and he wants to
- 22:45Speaker 4: win now, which I think is music to everyone's ears.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Talk a little bit about the show you're doing for UTAH.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I find it's so cool and refreshing to see these
- 22:55Speaker 3: kind of like live streaming and you've really taken this
- 22:58Speaker 3: show under your wing. I think it's on Apple TV
- 23:02Speaker 3: if I'm not mistaken, or one of those channels. And
- 23:06Speaker 3: but you kind of do this really cool thing during
- 23:08Speaker 3: the game, So just kind of explain and talk about
- 23:09Speaker 3: it so we can kind of direct fans that way
- 23:11Speaker 3: as well during the next season.
- 23:14Speaker 5: Yeah, so I appreciate that, JD.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Obviously, it's been a real heavy lift for me. It's
- 23:20Speaker 4: been the hardest year of my life for sure. I've
- 23:22Speaker 4: never done anything even remotely close for this. You know,
- 23:25Speaker 4: you're you're broadcasting games between the bench. Now you've got
- 23:28Speaker 4: your own TV show. And when Ryan Smith came to me,
- 23:33Speaker 4: and I think it was late September, he was like, I.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Think you're the perfect guy for the job.
- 23:37Speaker 4: So I don't know if anyone's seen the Peyton Manning cast,
- 23:42Speaker 4: it's a very different experience, right, And how to take
- 23:45Speaker 4: in a football game and Pat McAfee. It's kind of
- 23:49Speaker 4: a combination, right of Pat McAfee.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Show and Peyton Manning Cast.
- 23:54Speaker 4: And right away I was like, hey, Ryan, you understand
- 23:56Speaker 4: like I'm neither of those guys.
- 23:58Speaker 5: I'm Tyson. I've never won a Stanley Cup. I'm not
- 24:01Speaker 5: a Hall of Famer.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Like I've had a since size Rollodex, but that's about
- 24:07Speaker 4: all I have.
- 24:07Speaker 5: And He's like, no, I've sat with you.
- 24:10Speaker 4: I've spent time with you, you know. So basically what
- 24:15Speaker 4: we do is we would have you know, an ex
- 24:17Speaker 4: NHL player or an actress or an actor, and we
- 24:21Speaker 4: would be live streaming the game and we'd be sitting
- 24:23Speaker 4: in these chairs and.
- 24:25Speaker 5: We basically interview the guests all game long.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Right, we talk about the game a little bit, but
- 24:31Speaker 4: more so it's about diving into the stories and the
- 24:34Speaker 4: great stories because, as you guys know, in broadcasting, they
- 24:36Speaker 4: always tell you tell stories. We want the audience to
- 24:39Speaker 4: be able to get to know the players better. And
- 24:41Speaker 4: I'm like, you can't tell a story in a live
- 24:44Speaker 4: hockey game.
- 24:45Speaker 5: You just can't. Things happen too.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Fast, goals are scored, you're over talking, you're talking over
- 24:50Speaker 4: you're play by play guys.
- 24:52Speaker 5: It's an absolute.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Joke when it comes to that, right and your ability
- 24:57Speaker 4: to tell stories. So Ryan and Ashley have basically given
- 25:00Speaker 4: me a show and an opportunity to bring guests on
- 25:03Speaker 4: and just.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Show the fans, you know, the great personalities.
- 25:08Speaker 4: But I'm like JD you know, I mean, we've got
- 25:10Speaker 4: the best stories in the in the world, I mean,
- 25:12Speaker 4: and to be able to share those the ones that
- 25:14Speaker 4: we can't share with our audience is I think is
- 25:18Speaker 4: a gift and I think people are really starting to
- 25:20Speaker 4: enjoy it our social media.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Unfortunately, we're just getting it out there, I think in
- 25:26Speaker 5: the next coming coming weeks.
- 25:27Speaker 4: So the content that we have created, which is unbelievable,
- 25:31Speaker 4: I mean, I've had guys on like Mark Grace, Chris Pronger,
- 25:35Speaker 4: Paul Best and that commodore, I mean, all the characters
- 25:38Speaker 4: right in pro sports.
- 25:42Speaker 5: And it's it's a chance for everyone just to listen
- 25:45Speaker 5: to these stories.
- 25:47Speaker 4: You will absolutely last laugh your asshole at some of
- 25:50Speaker 4: the content that we've created.
- 25:52Speaker 5: So it's going to be out there in the next
- 25:53Speaker 5: coming weeks.
- 25:54Speaker 4: We've also started a podcast, Like everybody, I think if
- 25:58Speaker 4: you don't have a podcast nowadays, like, what's wrong with
- 26:00Speaker 4: this guy? We have a we have a nash Cast
- 26:04Speaker 4: podcast coming for the Utah Hockey Club, so we'll be
- 26:07Speaker 4: doing fifty two of those next year.
- 26:10Speaker 5: So I'm really excited about what's to come.
- 26:13Speaker 2: A very busy man.
- 26:14Speaker 1: It's certainly a prolific in talented what we're talking with,
- 26:16Speaker 1: Tyson Nash Tyson. Since you mentioned Paul Bissonette, how about
- 26:19Speaker 1: the fact his media career started up filming pillow Talk
- 26:22Speaker 1: segments with you What do you make a bus Nasty's runs?
- 26:26Speaker 4: I mean, it's unbelievable, right, He's like the Howard Stern
- 26:29Speaker 4: of hockey, and he really is kind of how he
- 26:33Speaker 4: started and to now where he's gotten to, you know.
- 26:36Speaker 5: And I used to like kind of laugh at it.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I mean not laugh at I'll never laugh at anyone
- 26:40Speaker 4: for trying something right and trying to be creative and
- 26:44Speaker 4: starting something new.
- 26:45Speaker 5: But I think when podcasts kind of first came out,
- 26:47Speaker 5: You're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay. I mean I was
- 26:50Speaker 5: supposed to start one with Mike Commodore.
- 26:52Speaker 4: It was called in one his famous tagline, right, and
- 26:56Speaker 4: I'm like, this is a joke.
- 26:57Speaker 5: What am I doing? No one's going to listen?
- 26:59Speaker 4: To it, and here I have, you know, a number
- 27:00Speaker 4: of years later, and I'm like, why didn't I start
- 27:03Speaker 4: a podcast?
- 27:03Speaker 5: Right? Because of how successful they've all been.
- 27:06Speaker 4: And I think everyone in the sports world and the
- 27:09Speaker 4: entertainment world, they want to be entertained.
- 27:11Speaker 5: They want to hear stories, just like you guys are doing.
- 27:14Speaker 4: And I mean you have your group and you have
- 27:17Speaker 4: your people that you know come on and tune in
- 27:19Speaker 4: every day, whether it's they're drive to work or relaxing
- 27:23Speaker 4: at night before bed.
- 27:24Speaker 5: I mean, they're taking in content.
- 27:26Speaker 4: So if you're a good storyteller and you have the
- 27:29Speaker 4: ability to, you know, put your personality out there, I mean,
- 27:33Speaker 4: what an opportunity. But for what Busines has done, I
- 27:36Speaker 4: mean it's insane, it really is. Every I travel around
- 27:41Speaker 4: with this guy sometimes, I mean I could do with
- 27:44Speaker 4: Wayne Gretzky and Paul Bisonette, and Paul Bisonette is way
- 27:48Speaker 4: more well known.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Than It's nuts.
- 27:50Speaker 5: It's nuts, right, like you.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Think of that of like this is absolutely crazy. Every kid,
- 27:55Speaker 4: every girl wants to talk to this. You go through
- 27:58Speaker 4: an airport, you go, we've had breakfast. Not too long ago,
- 28:01Speaker 4: he had fifteen people come up to him. I mean,
- 28:04Speaker 4: obviously that site had a lot to do with it too.
- 28:06Speaker 4: I mean, it just it just keeps snowballing for this guy,
- 28:10Speaker 4: and there's not a better guy it can happen to.
- 28:12Speaker 4: This guy made no money playing hockey and what he
- 28:15Speaker 4: has turned that personality into.
- 28:18Speaker 5: And you know, just the fans, the players that everyone
- 28:21Speaker 5: loves the guy.
- 28:22Speaker 3: How fun are those pillow talk segments? And I know
- 28:24Speaker 3: we talked about it a little bit at his his
- 28:26Speaker 3: birthday party, but there is some just what were some
- 28:30Speaker 3: of the great stories that you guys heard or shared?
- 28:34Speaker 4: And you know what, Bady like, that's the thing. Like
- 28:37Speaker 4: everyone's like, do you miss playing anymore? I'm like, not
- 28:39Speaker 4: a chance to miss playing. I mean you watch the
- 28:42Speaker 4: playoffs and you're like, okay, I'd love to, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 4: play one of those games. I mean that's a different animal, right,
- 28:47Speaker 4: But I don't miss playing. I do miss the paychecks
- 28:49Speaker 4: a little bit, But I missed the boys. I missed
- 28:52Speaker 4: the story time. I missed sitting in bed having plogging
- 28:55Speaker 4: off ice cream, you know, room service before you fall asleep,
- 28:59Speaker 4: telling stories and you know, like dinners the night before,
- 29:02Speaker 4: having a glass of wine over a big steak with
- 29:05Speaker 4: the group, right with the guys, there's nothing like it.
- 29:08Speaker 4: So we brought back pillow Talk and it was kind
- 29:11Speaker 4: of before everything really kind of you know, social media
- 29:15Speaker 4: and podcasts really kind of kicked off. I mean, if
- 29:18Speaker 4: you go on YouTube and you type in pillow Talk,
- 29:20Speaker 4: I mean some of the stories are absolutely crazy.
- 29:23Speaker 5: We had Alice Cooper on there.
- 29:26Speaker 4: You know, we had everyone, I mean, Shit, Ray Whitney,
- 29:28Speaker 4: yourself and some of the best stories again too, I
- 29:34Speaker 4: think out there right now.
- 29:36Speaker 5: And I think we're going to try to bring some
- 29:39Speaker 5: of that back.
- 29:40Speaker 4: I don't know who owns that content, but for our Nashcast,
- 29:43Speaker 4: which is the name of my show, I want to
- 29:45Speaker 4: bring some of that stuff back because you know, it's
- 29:48Speaker 4: just so funny and just so crazy, some of the
- 29:52Speaker 4: stuff that we have lived through and you know, been
- 29:54Speaker 4: able to tell it's funny.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Soon as I talked to enforcers and tough guys, right,
- 29:59Speaker 1: Jody Shelley's too, Grimpson and afi Ice, it couldn't be nice, right,
- 30:02Speaker 1: sweethearts much like yourself, engaging, funny, trumming guy on the ice,
- 30:06Speaker 1: classic instigator, great shit disturber.
- 30:08Speaker 2: What's the most you ever pissed off an opponent?
- 30:11Speaker 5: Oh my god, I'll never forget.
- 30:14Speaker 4: We were in the playoffs against the San Jose Sharks,
- 30:17Speaker 4: and Tony Twist was retired at the time, and he
- 30:21Speaker 4: was back in Saint Louis and Kelly Chase came up
- 30:25Speaker 4: to me and Tony Twist's ex wife was apparently playing
- 30:29Speaker 4: cards in the room when they were in Sant San
- 30:33Speaker 4: Jose or in Saint Louis the game before, and you know,
- 30:38Speaker 4: I kind of embellased the whole story, and I'm like,
- 30:40Speaker 4: oh my god, Tony Twist's wife was in your guys'
- 30:44Speaker 4: hotel room playing cards, So I'll never forget.
- 30:47Speaker 5: I think it was. I think it was Owen Nolan.
- 30:50Speaker 5: I said, hey, I'm just telling you.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I know you and Twister used to be good buddies,
- 30:54Speaker 4: but he is going to absolutely murder you and everyone
- 30:58Speaker 4: that was in that hotel room with his ex wife.
- 31:02Speaker 5: I go, I don't know what happened in that hotel
- 31:04Speaker 5: that I was I know it was nothing good.
- 31:07Speaker 4: And Tony Twist is going to lose his fucking mind
- 31:10Speaker 4: on you. I mean, Tony Twist is one of the
- 31:12Speaker 4: toughest guys to ever play. Literally every face off for
- 31:15Speaker 4: the first twenty five minutes of the hockey game one
- 31:18Speaker 4: of them came.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Out there and was like, we did nothing with her.
- 31:20Speaker 5: We didn't touch her, we were just playing card. She's
- 31:23Speaker 5: a friend of ours. I don't know what you're talking about.
- 31:25Speaker 5: What's going on? This is a joke.
- 31:27Speaker 4: And literally after the game, the second the game ended,
- 31:31Speaker 4: I had about twenty text messages on my phone and
- 31:34Speaker 4: calls from Twister doing what did you do? What did
- 31:38Speaker 4: you say? So I know they went on the other side.
- 31:41Speaker 4: They were on their phones going we didn't do anything.
- 31:43Speaker 4: This is a total joke. Nash stirred up shit and
- 31:46Speaker 4: like literally they couldn't even focus on the hockey game
- 31:49Speaker 4: that night.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Made us the same. We absolutely drummed them, but.
- 31:54Speaker 4: We ended up losing the series, but sadly, but oh
- 31:56Speaker 4: my god, it was so it was so freaking funny.
- 31:59Speaker 5: But Kelly Chase just wound me up, sent me out.
- 32:02Speaker 4: There with all this material and take much to stir
- 32:05Speaker 4: them up.
- 32:06Speaker 3: What's the what's the best chirp you've heard thrown your way?
- 32:12Speaker 2: Oh?
- 32:12Speaker 5: Man, I always, I got yeah, I always.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Brady Kitchuk called me a keith yandle wannabe and I
- 32:19Speaker 3: was I was in Arizona. I was dying, la. It's
- 32:24Speaker 3: so fucking good.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I mean I've heard them all right.
- 32:28Speaker 4: I mean I I have I have a nose that
- 32:31Speaker 4: kind of gives it away. It's like a baked potato,
- 32:33Speaker 4: like focus cigar on the shower. But I remember Jason
- 32:36Speaker 4: Strudwick one time, he goes, hey, I heard Larry Klowe
- 32:39Speaker 4: offered you a million dollars or a nose full of nickels.
- 32:46Speaker 5: I mean, it's pretty bad when your whole.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Team right on your bench is laughing at you and
- 32:50Speaker 4: laughing with the other team.
- 32:52Speaker 5: So it was, yeah, it was. It was a pretty
- 32:54Speaker 5: good one.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:56Speaker 1: You mentioned the fact if you were out there with
- 32:58Speaker 1: Bis and Gretzky more people are talking to Bis nasty.
- 33:00Speaker 1: But you're coaching your last season was Wayne Gretzky. What
- 33:03Speaker 1: was it like, Tyson having the great one by the bench.
- 33:06Speaker 5: It was crazy? You know.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Actually, when I got traded from the Saint Louis Blues
- 33:10Speaker 4: at the draft, I'll never forget. I got this phone
- 33:14Speaker 4: call from an area code I didn't Uh, I didn't
- 33:17Speaker 4: know many people from the three one O area code.
- 33:19Speaker 5: I'm like hello, He's like, hey, Tyson, this is Wayne Gretzky.
- 33:23Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, good one whatever I'm like, which one
- 33:27Speaker 4: of my idiot buddies does this?
- 33:28Speaker 5: Right? And a man up on him and he calls
- 33:30Speaker 5: me back. He's like, don't hang up, don't hang up.
- 33:32Speaker 5: It's it's Waine. It's Wain. We just traded for you.
- 33:35Speaker 5: And I'm like, yeah, right, Larry Plow hasn't called me yet.
- 33:38Speaker 5: It was the GM of the Blues.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Literally the first phone call I got I was Wayne Gretzky.
- 33:42Speaker 4: I'm like, how cool was this? I grew up in Edmonton.
- 33:45Speaker 4: I literally had Wayne Gretzky wallpaper and bet sheets when
- 33:48Speaker 4: I was When I was a kid, I think every
- 33:50Speaker 4: kid did, right. I mean, he's the great, one, best
- 33:53Speaker 4: player to ever ever play. And now he's he's calling
- 33:56Speaker 4: me on the phone telling me how excited he is
- 33:59Speaker 4: that I'm going to be on his team in Arizona.
- 34:02Speaker 5: So it was pretty crazy. I mean it really was.
- 34:06Speaker 4: You had to pinch yourself, you know, with him telling
- 34:09Speaker 4: you what to do, the meetings before games, you know,
- 34:12Speaker 4: getting on the plane, all of it.
- 34:15Speaker 5: I mean, it's a full time job.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I'll just say this, it's a full time job being
- 34:18Speaker 4: Wayne gretz peek with just everything that this guy has
- 34:22Speaker 4: to deal with, right, from fans, the kids, all of
- 34:25Speaker 4: it right to him being an NHL coach, So it
- 34:30Speaker 4: was it was pretty unique, to say the least, but
- 34:32Speaker 4: it was also one of the most heartbreaking things that
- 34:34Speaker 4: I've ever been through. It we laugh about it today
- 34:37Speaker 4: when I bring it up to him, because you know,
- 34:40Speaker 4: he was my biggest idol, right, I mean, I worshiped
- 34:43Speaker 4: this guy, and then he was the guy who ended
- 34:45Speaker 4: my NHL career, sending me down to the American Hockey
- 34:49Speaker 4: League after I played eight or.
- 34:50Speaker 5: Nine years in the NHL. I'll never forget sitting in
- 34:53Speaker 5: his office, Mahogany would everywhere.
- 34:55Speaker 4: I'm like, oh my god. I got called into his office.
- 34:57Speaker 4: I thought it was, you know, gonna be something good.
- 34:59Speaker 4: All of a sudden he's like, oh, I hate to
- 35:01Speaker 4: say this, but we got to send you down to
- 35:03Speaker 4: San Antonio. And I was just like, oh my god,
- 35:06Speaker 4: this is my hero. Like just absolutely ripped and broke
- 35:09Speaker 4: my heart. But I will say this, Gretz was amazing
- 35:12Speaker 4: and I can see why he's won and has so
- 35:16Speaker 4: much success. Not only was it because he's the best
- 35:19Speaker 4: player in the world, but when I became and he
- 35:21Speaker 4: got me into radio and eventually TV, he goes, I'll
- 35:24Speaker 4: take care.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Of you forever. You know, like, as long as you.
- 35:28Speaker 4: Work hard and show up and you know, be a
- 35:30Speaker 4: good teammate, you have a job for forever in broadcasting.
- 35:33Speaker 5: And he was right.
- 35:34Speaker 4: But every trip we would land, say we would land
- 35:37Speaker 4: in San Jose, it was mandatory, not for the players,
- 35:40Speaker 4: but all the trainers, all the media. They had to
- 35:43Speaker 4: put their bags in their room and come down to
- 35:45Speaker 4: the hotel lobby and have one drink at least minimum,
- 35:49Speaker 4: have one drink, whether it was a beer or a coke,
- 35:51Speaker 4: died coke, whatever it was, you had that one drink
- 35:54Speaker 4: with Wayne Sky and he would sit there and tell stories.
- 35:58Speaker 2: And we were just like, oh yeah, and we're.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Just like this is the coolest thing I've ever seen.
- 36:04Speaker 4: And you want to talk about a storyteller, this guy
- 36:08Speaker 4: the sky was blue, you know, like it was he
- 36:11Speaker 4: every detail, this guy had it.
- 36:13Speaker 5: And you're just sitting on the edge of your seat
- 36:15Speaker 5: just from offening at the model regrets and all the
- 36:18Speaker 5: stories that this guy had.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I mean, you had another legendary coach, Joel Quinnville, and
- 36:23Speaker 3: you got any thoughts on him returning to Anaheim, and
- 36:26Speaker 3: you think it's a good move. For him in that franchise.
- 36:29Speaker 4: No, it's about freaking time and the Anaheim Ducks and Pat.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Verbeek, I mean.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Pat for Beek.
- 36:35Speaker 4: There's been some questionable moves, you know, to say, to
- 36:40Speaker 4: say the least, and let's just get this out there.
- 36:43Speaker 5: Zegres, I mean, how's things going with Zegres right now?
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:46Speaker 5: I mean, what's going on there? Maybe I was right
- 36:49Speaker 5: about the kid.
- 36:49Speaker 4: I don't know, call me crazy because I took some
- 36:52Speaker 4: massive beat back in the day, and I can tell
- 36:54Speaker 4: you some stories of some conversations me and him had.
- 36:57Speaker 4: In fact, I had to chase him down the hallway
- 37:00Speaker 4: after one. In one conversation we had as the game's
- 37:04Speaker 4: going on, he chirped me between the benches and I'm like,
- 37:08Speaker 4: oh yeah, And I'm like, are you kidding me? I
- 37:10Speaker 4: can't tell you what the guy said. I'd love to,
- 37:12Speaker 4: but it wasn't pretty anyway. I chased from down in
- 37:14Speaker 4: the hallway. I'm like, is this freaking kid kidding me?
- 37:17Speaker 5: Like?
- 37:17Speaker 4: This is unbelievable anyway, God bless Joel Quimville. He is
- 37:22Speaker 4: going to change that organization. This is a guy that
- 37:26Speaker 4: can handle. Joel Quinville's best gift and biggest I don't
- 37:32Speaker 4: know what the word is, but just his strength as
- 37:35Speaker 4: a coach is managing personalities. And when you hit back
- 37:38Speaker 4: to the Chicago Saint Louis, I mean he had Pierre
- 37:41Speaker 4: turs On, padl Dmetria, Chris Pronger, Alan mckinnis, Scott Mellanbie,
- 37:46Speaker 4: Doug Waite, Keith Chuck, He managed Mike Keane, one of
- 37:50Speaker 4: the best personalities in the game, but biggest personalities. He
- 37:54Speaker 4: found a way to manage all those guys and bring
- 37:57Speaker 4: out the best of them, right, And I think that
- 38:00Speaker 4: is a is a gift and that's what Joel his
- 38:03Speaker 4: biggest strength. And actually it is on top of you know,
- 38:06Speaker 4: all the attention to details. So Anaheim is very lucky
- 38:10Speaker 4: and I'm so excited that because the NHL is a
- 38:13Speaker 4: better place with jo All Quindle in it.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Well said, with those thoughts on Q last one for
- 38:17Speaker 1: you here, Tyson. You finished your career playing on the
- 38:19Speaker 1: nip On paper cranes in the Japanese League. Let's how
- 38:22Speaker 1: much they love baseball in Japan. I'm curious with the
- 38:24Speaker 1: hockey passion there.
- 38:26Speaker 2: What it says.
- 38:33Speaker 4: Nazimoto, You know what, it was the perfect way to
- 38:41Speaker 4: end uh end a bad career, right, I mean I
- 38:44Speaker 4: didn't have I didn't have the greatest career, but it
- 38:47Speaker 4: was a perfect one. I got a phone call from
- 38:49Speaker 4: Jamie mcleann and a good buddy of my longtime NHLer
- 38:52Speaker 4: uh He said.
- 38:53Speaker 5: Listen, I'm going to Japan.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Joel Dick, a good friend of ours, was playing over there.
- 38:59Speaker 4: He goes, hey, they're they're looking to spend some money
- 39:01Speaker 4: and bring some some guys over that have NHL experience.
- 39:05Speaker 5: You guys want to come, and we jumped at it.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I didn't have any other offers, so it was a
- 39:11Speaker 4: great way to wind down your career, kind of learn
- 39:14Speaker 4: about life as a civilian, right, knowing that the money
- 39:19Speaker 4: is going to slow down, and just kind of preparing
- 39:21Speaker 4: yourself for post hockey career. But it was a paid vacation.
- 39:26Speaker 4: I will call it the most incredible culture. The people
- 39:29Speaker 4: were amazing, My teammates very skill.
- 39:33Speaker 5: I'll tell you what.
- 39:33Speaker 4: The Japanese are so skilled, so talented. The physical yeah,
- 39:38Speaker 4: hard workers, the physical side of the game, and maybe
- 39:41Speaker 4: the you know, the hockey hockey sense if you will,
- 39:44Speaker 4: maybe lacks a little bit. But what an incredible experience
- 39:48Speaker 4: to go over there, play and again wind down your
- 39:51Speaker 4: career and get ready to try to figure out what
- 39:53Speaker 4: you want to do after hockey, which obviously got into broadcasting.
- 39:57Speaker 5: The best thing I've ever done broadcasting. You guys know this.
- 40:01Speaker 5: I mean, it doesn't get any better than talking hockey.
- 40:04Speaker 2: For Dyson Nash, one of the best in the game.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Certainly, man, I love the self deprecation, but you were
- 40:09Speaker 1: a better player than you realize, and certainly you're a
- 40:11Speaker 1: great broadcast on that we can all agree.
- 40:14Speaker 2: This is awesome.
- 40:15Speaker 5: Is gonna look like mine if you're not careful.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Those full of nickels. I love it. Thanks tusks up,
- 40:30Speaker 2: all right, thanks so much to Tyson Nash.
- 40:31Speaker 1: She was awesome, certainly a great guest and obviously doing
- 40:33Speaker 1: great things there.
- 40:34Speaker 2: For the Utah Mammoth, tusks up.
- 40:36Speaker 1: We'll get some coaching news here evolving out of foot
- 40:40Speaker 1: Rick Tocket kind of holland there are the Kings as well.
- 40:44Speaker 2: But I do want to mention.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Real quick for your Gdia Cenophiland sixty for you on
- 40:47Speaker 1: Kelsey Grammar. Yeah, Kelsey Grammar fan, you like Fraser, you
- 40:49Speaker 1: like cheering?
- 40:50Speaker 3: I mean yeah, Fraser is pretty good. Decent show for
- 40:53Speaker 3: bland white people. A pretty good show.
- 40:55Speaker 2: That's a perfect description of it.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I'm not crazy by it because the fact I used
- 40:58Speaker 1: to always beat Seinfeld for best series, and I said, listen,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I'm with you. Fraser is a good show, funny, sparkling.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I'm like, why was it always beating sile sidebook? Clearly better?
- 41:06Speaker 1: If you sad me thirty coury years from now, what's better?
- 41:08Speaker 1: Sign for the Fraser's obviously siple. Having said that, my
- 41:10Speaker 1: sister in law massive Fraser fan. So I see Kelsey
- 41:13Speaker 1: Grammer's coming to my local bookstore in Richmond, New jerseym like,
- 41:16Speaker 1: all right, I'll go. He's got a book out about
- 41:18Speaker 1: his sister who was raped and murdered when she's eighteen
- 41:21Speaker 1: years old. Yeah, Kelsey Grammer's tragic life. Town knows he
- 41:23Speaker 1: got a cocaine issue, lots of problems. So the book
- 41:26Speaker 1: is about his sister. So I go there and I
- 41:30Speaker 1: see a line out down the door, like you know,
- 41:31Speaker 1: at six o'clock. I'm like, oh my god, well there's
- 41:33Speaker 1: already been lining up as Kelsey Grammar. I guess like
- 41:35Speaker 1: I got a book for kense Grammer. They we're sold out.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I'm like, what they we're sold out? I go the
- 41:39Speaker 1: book signing is taking place right now. You're already sold
- 41:41Speaker 1: out books, Like, yeah, everybody's pre order. It's Kelsey Grammar's
- 41:43Speaker 1: a big deal. I'm like, okay, listen, it's not really
- 41:46Speaker 1: for me, it's for my sister in law.
- 41:47Speaker 2: I just want to sign. I just want Cousse Gramer
- 41:49Speaker 2: to sign a book for her.
- 41:50Speaker 1: They're like, he's not signing for people, he's just signing
- 41:55Speaker 1: the book.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't fall.
- 41:56Speaker 1: They go for the pre orders. It's already signed, Jason
- 41:59Speaker 1: Numer's pre order. You walk up, Hi Demers, Yeah, here's
- 42:01Speaker 1: your book. Thanks, and then you can go meet him
- 42:03Speaker 1: just to get a picture.
- 42:04Speaker 2: That's it.
- 42:05Speaker 1: That says he's not putting personalized descriptions, and he goes
- 42:09Speaker 1: it's still worth it. Like you know, if al Pacino's
- 42:11Speaker 1: my favorite actor, if you sit to me, hey, buddy,
- 42:13Speaker 1: I got you an al Pacino sign book, I'm.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Like, oh shit. But Jo' like god, it's pretty sick.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, so'm be excited.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Maybe betteraphasens too, adn't, but it still says helped you.
- 42:19Speaker 2: I'll take it.
- 42:20Speaker 1: So I wait in line when a couple guys recognize me.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Zach Adam Vinn Hey, what's going on, buddy? Hey picksen
- 42:25Speaker 1: a file fans, Thanks so much, guys, guys, we're hacking.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I go, do you guys doing to go? We're trying
- 42:29Speaker 1: to get Kelsel Grahmer to sign our stuff. I'm like, no,
- 42:30Speaker 1: he's not signing, no, no, no. And they showed me these pictures.
- 42:33Speaker 1: They have six stuff from cheaters like Glossy eight by ten.
- 42:36Speaker 1: John Ratzenberg signed at Cliff Claven Ted Danson sign it.
- 42:39Speaker 1: We're gonna Getkelse Grammer to sign.
- 42:40Speaker 2: I go, well's see it goes.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I go up there and you get eight seconds, you know,
- 42:44Speaker 1: I mean, just walk up and I go hey. He goes, hey, man, hoora.
- 42:46Speaker 5: I go.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I just want to say I love Cape Fear. I
- 42:48Speaker 1: wanted to say the Simpsons all that came up with
- 42:49Speaker 1: KP Pier, but you know what I meant. He goes, yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I goes side showbomb. He did the best.
- 42:52Speaker 2: He goes, oh, what a little show.
- 42:54Speaker 5: It was.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Take a picture, like, thanks so much, Kelsey's just love
- 42:56Speaker 1: you us fan. Thanks, it's sick blinke and you missed it.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Then I watched Zach up there and go, hey, Kelsey,
- 43:00Speaker 1: can you sign this?
- 43:01Speaker 2: He smiles.
- 43:01Speaker 1: He goes, I'm not signing, smiles plainly I'm not signing,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and he goes, I know.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Can you just size? He's like, I'm not signing. It's
- 43:09Speaker 2: just pictures and you know, the book, and that's it.
- 43:11Speaker 1: And he's like maybe after he's like, okay, maybe so
- 43:15Speaker 1: same thing the other guy's doing as well. And I go,
- 43:17Speaker 1: I'm so curious to find out if he's actually gonna
- 43:19Speaker 1: sign after they go.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Here's what happens.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Sometimes after the whole circus dies down and he's going
- 43:24Speaker 1: to his car with his handlers, you go, hey, Kelso,
- 43:26Speaker 1: can you just sign this?
- 43:27Speaker 2: He'll sign it. I go, let's see what happens. What
- 43:29Speaker 2: do you think? Yes or no?
- 43:30Speaker 1: Do you think Kelse Grammer signed these three guys? Is
- 43:33Speaker 1: memorabilly on the way to his car.
- 43:35Speaker 3: Negative.
- 43:36Speaker 1: I want you guess he went one for three way
- 43:39Speaker 1: he signed one the other two Zacher's okay quickly, and
- 43:44Speaker 1: then I guess a bunch of other people the same idea.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I think. I just thought I can't. I can't. That's it.
- 43:49Speaker 1: So I have an autographed copy of Kelsei Grammer book
- 43:52Speaker 1: I can't wait to get my sister along, and a
- 43:53Speaker 1: picture of me with Kelsey Grammer, even though I'm not
- 43:55Speaker 1: a big.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Fan, we can superimpose her in there. Hey Fraser, long
- 43:59Speaker 2: live KG.
- 44:00Speaker 3: You got al Pacino behind you too, which I love.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Scarface Michael Carlyon.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Oh the best have you read?
- 44:06Speaker 1: Apparently used to smoke forty cigarettes a day, which I'm
- 44:08Speaker 1: like that I could definitely see, like when you watch
- 44:10Speaker 1: Pacino movies.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Like forty forty lefties a day. He's just crushing darts,
- 44:15Speaker 3: ripping the d'Artagnan.
- 44:18Speaker 2: A guy who doesn't smoke cigarettes is Adam Foot. He's
- 44:21Speaker 2: a new head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.
- 44:23Speaker 1: A legendary defense as a player A system with the
- 44:25Speaker 1: Canucks is January twenty twenty three, a defensive coach also for.
- 44:28Speaker 2: The Colrado Alleys for seven seasons.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, previously called but the best defensive
- 44:34Speaker 1: coach he's ever had, had to factor in the decision.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Right, jad Hmmm.
- 44:40Speaker 3: Why would they put Adam Foot as the head coach
- 44:43Speaker 3: when they're looking the only thing they're looking to do
- 44:45Speaker 3: is salvage this team is keep Quinn Hughes happy. And
- 44:48Speaker 3: Quinn Hughes has been in the media multiple times saying,
- 44:51Speaker 3: Adam Foot love him best coach I've had, so Jim
- 44:53Speaker 3: Rutherford and all of his his wisdom goes, you know
- 44:57Speaker 3: why we gotta keep this kid happy. Adam Foot, you
- 45:00Speaker 3: are the head coach. How much money do you want?
- 45:02Speaker 3: And I feel like it's as simple of an analogy,
- 45:05Speaker 3: is that now, not to say that Adam Foot hasn't
- 45:08Speaker 3: earned that right and everything I've heard and I talked
- 45:11Speaker 3: with Micro up today about Adam foote is he's a
- 45:14Speaker 3: fantastic coach and great on that bench. His his his
- 45:19Speaker 3: playing career speaks for itself in all those things. And
- 45:23Speaker 3: you know he has the experience and he communicates well
- 45:26Speaker 3: with the guys. But yeah, this is by and large
- 45:29Speaker 3: to keep Quinn Hughes happy because it is a sinking ship,
- 45:32Speaker 3: the Vancouver Canucks. That ORCA has been harpooned.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Yes, and actually.
- 45:39Speaker 3: And Jim Rutherford's trying and and Patrick alviner trying to
- 45:42Speaker 3: salvage this team because it's going in the wrong direction
- 45:46Speaker 3: in a hurry. So this is a this is a
- 45:48Speaker 3: nice step in the right direction finally by these guys.
- 45:51Speaker 1: But it's not gonna matter Quinn. Who's gonna sun. I
- 45:53Speaker 1: want to play with my brothers. I'm going to New Jersey, Like.
- 45:56Speaker 3: You're delaying the inevitable because why you know, we said it.
- 45:59Speaker 3: We're like, why wouldn't Quinn Hughes want to play with
- 46:01Speaker 3: his brothers? Why wouldn't you play in the NHL with
- 46:03Speaker 3: your brothers growing up and not have that fantasy of hey,
- 46:07Speaker 3: would be awesome if we can all play together. And
- 46:09Speaker 3: now the door because of you know, Alvin and Brutherford
- 46:12Speaker 3: just losing their minds is just slightly cracked open. And
- 46:17Speaker 3: now it's a possibility. So why wouldn't you want to
- 46:20Speaker 3: go for that? And then if I'm Rutherford, I'm like,
- 46:23Speaker 3: you know, swing for the fences to keep him there
- 46:25Speaker 3: and hopefully you can draw him in from New Jersey
- 46:28Speaker 3: because who knows where which side's going to do the trade.
- 46:31Speaker 3: I assume Quinn Hughes would be going to Jersey, but
- 46:34Speaker 3: you know, time will tell. But yeah, it's a it's
- 46:36Speaker 3: a goddamn mess in Vancouver. But good signing, badam foot, Congratulations, motherfucker.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Great defense with no question, loved with the avalanche of
- 46:43Speaker 2: all those years with that beak. You spotted them a
- 46:45Speaker 2: mile away as well.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, meantime, Rick, talk now the head coach of
- 46:48Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Flyers. Drafted by the Flyers, played parts of
- 46:51Speaker 1: eleven seasons in Philadelphia before coaching stints in Tampa, Arizona
- 46:55Speaker 1: and Vancouver.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Clearly, JD the Flyers are trying to win the PR War.
- 46:59Speaker 2: We're not a good team.
- 47:00Speaker 1: But guess what, Danny Breer former flyer Keith Jones Forberflyer,
- 47:04Speaker 1: Rick Talket for over File, Let's remind you of all
- 47:06Speaker 1: the glory days while this team probably goes to another
- 47:08Speaker 1: non playoff season.
- 47:10Speaker 2: What do you make of the Tacket move.
- 47:11Speaker 3: I mean, he absolutely went in with a ski mask
- 47:14Speaker 3: and just robbed the Philadelphia Flyers. And Danny Frere was
- 47:17Speaker 3: it to the tune of twenty five million over five years.
- 47:21Speaker 3: I mean, listen, congratulations getting that deal, having a couple
- 47:25Speaker 3: winning seasons as a head coach in his in his tenure,
- 47:28Speaker 3: in his career of head coaching, and to get that
- 47:31Speaker 3: is just incredible, especially the way his season went in Vancouver.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Not that it was, you know, completely his fault. I
- 47:38Speaker 3: think it was more management than anything. And listen, I
- 47:41Speaker 3: have my bias towards Rick Tockett. I think he's a
- 47:43Speaker 3: great assistant coach. I think head coach. I don't think
- 47:47Speaker 3: he's worth twenty five million, but that seems to be
- 47:50Speaker 3: the market and where it's at. Congratulations again, motherfucker, get
- 47:54Speaker 3: paid if you can. But yeah, I just think this
- 47:57Speaker 3: was something. You know, this is like very similar Vancouver.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Like you're satisfying the fans. This is what the fans wanted.
- 48:04Speaker 3: Fans wanted Rick there, they wanted Ricky Ticky. You brought
- 48:07Speaker 3: him in, You brought their you know, one of their
- 48:09Speaker 3: most favorite sons back home broad Street. Bullet's try to
- 48:13Speaker 3: recreate something. But to me, it just seems like it's
- 48:16Speaker 3: a little bit like John Tortorella esque with it's a
- 48:19Speaker 3: guy who's more leaning towards defensive structure than anything, and
- 48:23Speaker 3: that's kind of what Towarts brought to Phillion and it
- 48:26Speaker 3: didn't quite work. So we'll see if talk can kind
- 48:29Speaker 3: of bring a little bit more offense there and see
- 48:31Speaker 3: how he rounds out his coaching staff. I don't know,
- 48:34Speaker 3: is the coaching staff staying there other than Rick. Is
- 48:37Speaker 3: it just Rick coming in or.
- 48:38Speaker 1: It's a great point because brad Shaw they really kind of,
- 48:41Speaker 1: you know, felt unshackled without torts there like you saw me.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Yeah, the offensively you could see Bradshaw staying there and
- 48:48Speaker 3: going back in an assistant role, and you know, I
- 48:51Speaker 3: I just will see if who else he brings in
- 48:54Speaker 3: and and but yeah, I think it's a move that
- 48:58Speaker 3: this is Danny Brier putting his fingerprints all over this team.
- 49:01Speaker 3: And I said it today on the network, and it's
- 49:03Speaker 3: him kind of putting forth the path he wants his
- 49:07Speaker 3: team to take. But again, there's a lot of young,
- 49:10Speaker 3: skilled guys on that team. And we saw what kind
- 49:13Speaker 3: of talk kind of you know, with Elias Petterson, and
- 49:16Speaker 3: he likes guys with a little bit more fire and
- 49:18Speaker 3: then play hard and they play two hundred foot games.
- 49:20Speaker 3: And there's a lot of guys on that team, especially
- 49:23Speaker 3: the young guys that are just offensive minded with not
- 49:26Speaker 3: a ton of defensive prowess to their game. So how
- 49:30Speaker 3: is he gonna be able to communicate with them? We're
- 49:32Speaker 3: going to see. But the other good thing they have
- 49:34Speaker 3: is they have a boatload of draft picks in the
- 49:36Speaker 3: next three years, so they're gonna have an opportunity to
- 49:38Speaker 3: really build something. And Rick's there for five years, so
- 49:41Speaker 3: you're gonna have He's gonna have his time to kind
- 49:44Speaker 3: of put together the team. He wants and the players
- 49:46Speaker 3: that he wants, and and get the team going in
- 49:51Speaker 3: the direction that he sees it going, and hopefully it's
- 49:55Speaker 3: a positive direction. Because this Philly fan base, they ain't patient,
- 49:59Speaker 3: my friend, they ain't patient. They're great fans though.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Awesome passionate.
- 50:04Speaker 1: In the meantime, the La Kings, I mean Kenny Holland,
- 50:06Speaker 1: the new general manager, replacing Rob Blake, Hall of a
- 50:09Speaker 1: Hockey Hall of Famer, went for Stanley Cups executive vice
- 50:12Speaker 1: president and general manager Detroit Red Wings between ninety seven
- 50:15Speaker 1: and twenty nineteen. Recently was a GM and preced of
- 50:17Speaker 1: hockey operations to the Edmonton Oilers for five years, helping
- 50:21Speaker 1: to build the Oilers team that the Kings lost in
- 50:23Speaker 1: the first row of the playoffs each of the past
- 50:25Speaker 1: four seasons. If you can't beat him, join him.
- 50:27Speaker 2: What do you think of Kenny Holland with the Kings.
- 50:29Speaker 3: You took it right out of my mouth. If you
- 50:31Speaker 3: can't beat him, just hire the guy that put the
- 50:33Speaker 3: team together, and that's Beach at four straight years. Yeah,
- 50:37Speaker 3: you know, he's with the VP also of hockey operations
- 50:40Speaker 3: on top of GM. So I think what I've heard
- 50:44Speaker 3: is he's also going to be looking for kind of
- 50:46Speaker 3: his replacements, so somebody to kind of grow with him,
- 50:48Speaker 3: and he can probably take a back seat role in
- 50:51Speaker 3: almost an advisor role. But I think he's going to
- 50:53Speaker 3: start in the position of GM and VP and then
- 50:57Speaker 3: kind of work from there. But I think, listen, it's
- 50:59Speaker 3: a team that they're not far because if you really
- 51:02Speaker 3: look back at the last you know, two years, but
- 51:05Speaker 3: they're also aging, and they have some top guys that
- 51:08Speaker 3: are getting older, and you have to make a decision.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Do you hope, yeah, you rip the band aid off.
- 51:14Speaker 3: These are two guys that demand a lot of attention,
- 51:16Speaker 3: a lot of ice time, and a lot of money.
- 51:18Speaker 3: And do you look to give something to one of
- 51:22Speaker 3: these younger guys or you try to make a big
- 51:24Speaker 3: trade and make a big splash. But the two things
- 51:26Speaker 3: that they really need is they need to go short
- 51:28Speaker 3: up their defense on the right side. I don't think
- 51:30Speaker 3: it a right handed you know, like the Sorry. I
- 51:34Speaker 3: don't know if the right side of the Decorps with
- 51:36Speaker 3: Bran Clark, Jordan Spence, Drew Dowdy is enough. I think
- 51:40Speaker 3: they need to go get somebody else. They need to
- 51:42Speaker 3: go get some more players that can fill that role.
- 51:45Speaker 3: That can be complimentary to the left side, which I
- 51:48Speaker 3: think is pretty strong with Joel Edmondson, Gavrikov, Mikey Anderson.
- 51:51Speaker 3: I think it's a very strong left side of the decor.
- 51:55Speaker 3: And then they need to go get a fourth line.
- 51:57Speaker 3: They need depth scoring. You look what's apparent in this playoffs.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Depth scoring has been huge for the Oilers, the Vegas
- 52:04Speaker 3: Golden Knights when they're winning. You look at the Florida Panthers.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Depth scoring is what is driving this playoffs this year.
- 52:12Speaker 3: And you need to go out and get because the
- 52:14Speaker 3: fourth line of you know, I think they have like
- 52:16Speaker 3: a malot hellanious Trevor Lewis. I just don't think it's
- 52:20Speaker 3: enough to get you over the hump.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's funny you mentioned the Oilers. That's been one
- 52:23Speaker 2: of the stories.
- 52:24Speaker 1: It's been just how great Kine has been in that
- 52:25Speaker 1: supporting cast new Jah Hopkins, et cetera. It's not just
- 52:28Speaker 1: McDavid and dryslat will always driving the bus. Last thought here,
- 52:31Speaker 1: the happy fortieth birthday of the worm Corey Perry. Edmonton
- 52:34Speaker 1: won't just be celebrating a trip to the Western Conference Final,
- 52:36Speaker 1: but also celebrating Frida.
- 52:38Speaker 2: When Corey Perritrin's forty years old. Amazing to think about.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Jad the active leader in playoff games and was the
- 52:43Speaker 1: third oldest player of the NHL this season by Ryan
- 52:45Speaker 1: Suitor and Brent Burns.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Do you have a story from the Worm not.
- 52:51Speaker 3: I don't know him personally. I've met him a couple
- 52:53Speaker 3: of times. We both rehabbed our knees at the same place.
- 52:57Speaker 3: But yeah, it was more just the battles we had.
- 52:59Speaker 3: I mean when I started and he was in Anaheim
- 53:02Speaker 3: with that just incredible line of Bobby Ryan and Ryan
- 53:05Speaker 3: Getz laugh and they were just, you know, just such
- 53:08Speaker 3: a dominant team, and we had a great team in
- 53:10Speaker 3: San Jose. Those were just I mean, you'd come through
- 53:13Speaker 3: Death Valley and you'd have to play San Jose, La
- 53:16Speaker 3: and Anaheim and it was three Juggernauts at that time,
- 53:19Speaker 3: and it was hard to come out of the West
- 53:20Speaker 3: with any wins. And you know, every time you played
- 53:23Speaker 3: Corey Perry knew what it was gonna happen. He was going
- 53:24Speaker 3: to be a little shit. I've asked him to fight
- 53:28Speaker 3: a ton of times. He probably he said no every
- 53:31Speaker 3: single time because I don't think he knew that I
- 53:33Speaker 3: wasn't tough because if he did, he probably would have
- 53:37Speaker 3: beat the wheels off me.
- 53:38Speaker 2: But but I love the challenge him.
- 53:39Speaker 3: Come on, Oh, I just I hated him, and I
- 53:42Speaker 3: you know, I played with a lot of emotion and
- 53:43Speaker 3: that's what I needed to kind of get up in games.
- 53:45Speaker 3: And sometimes I couldn't control that emotion and thought I
- 53:49Speaker 3: was a little bit taller than I was and stronger
- 53:52Speaker 3: than I was, so I didn't care to get beat
- 53:54Speaker 3: up or go fight, you know, go fight to me,
- 53:57Speaker 3: this stronger than me. That's why, you know, four of
- 53:59Speaker 3: my five fights against guys that got like thirty pounds
- 54:01Speaker 3: on me and they don't last long. But I get
- 54:04Speaker 3: out there and I dropped the middies because I don't
- 54:06Speaker 3: give a shit. But Corey Perry is the worm for
- 54:10Speaker 3: a reason. He's very tough to play against. He's very
- 54:12Speaker 3: squirrely too because he's not fast. But when he gets
- 54:16Speaker 3: the puck on the wall, he maneuvers his body well,
- 54:18Speaker 3: he understands where he is in space and it it
- 54:21Speaker 3: makes it really difficult to get the puck off him.
- 54:23Speaker 3: So I mean, listen, credit to him. He's still producing
- 54:26Speaker 3: at this age and he's one of those guys that
- 54:29Speaker 3: no matter of his speed, He's still going to be effective.
- 54:32Speaker 3: And that's just I got to give him the golf clap, nice.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Golf.
- 54:37Speaker 3: He should have fought me.
- 54:39Speaker 2: That would have been amazing. I just I think it
- 54:41Speaker 2: would have taken him down.
- 54:42Speaker 3: There's still questions about that. No, I wouldn't have those
- 54:43Speaker 3: long arms. I was. I would have been in one.
- 54:45Speaker 3: He would have strung me out.
- 54:47Speaker 2: And just but he's not exactly Tony Twist. I mean,
- 54:49Speaker 2: you could take he's not.
- 54:50Speaker 3: He's not Twister, but he's I'm I'm no, uh, I'm
- 54:54Speaker 3: no Tyson, Yeah, i no, Tyson Nash out here.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Thanks you again at Tyson Nash. This is a really
- 55:00Speaker 1: great episode. Obviously he's a great guy. Wishing the best
