- 0:01Jennifer Davis: Welcome to The Best of Redmond.
- 0:03Jennifer Davis: I'm Jennifer Davis
- 0:05Dan Schulz: And I'm Dan Schultz, and this is Redmond's twice weekly newsletter and podcast about all of the amazing things happening right here in and around Redmond for the next seven days.
- 0:16Jennifer Davis: The Turnpike Troubadours roll into Chateau Ste.
- 0:19Jennifer Davis: Michelle Winery on Thursday, July 2nd at 6:00 PM, and this one's gonna pull a crowd.
- 0:24Jennifer Davis: They've got Muscadine Bloodline and Dexter The Moon rocks opening, so it's basically a full night of country and rock without a weak spot in the lineup.
- 0:34Jennifer Davis: Gates open about 90 minutes early, and if you've been to these summer shows before, you know parking gets messy fast.
- 0:42Jennifer Davis: Get there early, bring water, and settle in
- 0:49Dan Schulz: Okay, so Redmond is rewriting its tree code for the first time since 1998, and this one matters whether you own a house or just like living on a tree-lined street.
- 1:00Dan Schulz: The city is trying to figure out how to balance growth, housing, and keeping Redmond from turning into one giant construction zone with no shade.
- 1:10Dan Schulz: They've extended the public questionnaire deadline to July 31st, so there's still time to weigh in.
- 1:16Dan Schulz: If you care about what Redmond looks like in 10 years from now, this is worth taking a look.
- 1:23Jennifer Davis: If you're looking for a solid Thursday morning bike ride, this one starts July 2nd at nine thirty AM out of Willis Tucker Park and runs about three hours.
- 1:33Jennifer Davis: It's a moderate pace, around fourteen to sixteen miles per hour, with rolling hills and a few climbs mixed in.
- 1:41Jennifer Davis: The route cuts through Mill Creek and loops past Martha Lake and Silver Lake before a stop at Frost Donuts for coffee and sugar.
- 1:50Jennifer Davis: Helmets are required and registration closes at seven thirty AM, so don't sleep on it
- 1:57Dan Schulz: If you're planning your next event, forget those corporate bland catering companies.
- 2:02Dan Schulz: La Tia Angelina brings something special to your gathering.
- 2:06Dan Schulz: This family-owned food truck has been serving authentic Mexican cuisine for five years using recipes from the owner's mother-in-law in Jalisco, Mexico.
- 2:16Dan Schulz: They've got their King County permit, and they will travel anywhere from Snohomish to Tacoma.
- 2:21Dan Schulz: They've catered big apartment complexes, corporate events, and private parties.
- 2:27Dan Schulz: Your event deserves better than generic catering Give them a call at 425-524-8222.
- 2:36Dan Schulz: This message brought to you by Latia Angelina Food Truck
- 2:41Jennifer Davis: Looks like decent weather this weekend, which means patio season is fully on.
- 2:47Jennifer Davis: If you've got a dog, this is prime time to grab coffee, lunch, or a beer somewhere they're actually welcome.
- 2:54Jennifer Davis: Around Redmond, plenty of spots with outdoor seating fill up fast once the sun hits, and dogs usually get treated better than people anyway.
- 3:02Jennifer Davis: Bring water, keep them leashed, and maybe skip the hottest part of the afternoon.
- 3:08Jennifer Davis: Easy weekend move.
- 3:14Dan Schulz: Remlinger Farms is trying something new on Friday, July 3rd from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
- 3:21Dan Schulz: Family-friendly stand-up comedy, which really does sound like a smart move for them.
- 3:27Dan Schulz: They've got pro comics, arcade games for bigger kids, and a play area for little ones.
- 3:32Dan Schulz: So it's one of those rare things where parents can laugh and kids can stay busy.
- 3:37Dan Schulz: Tickets are 10 bucks online, 15 bucks at the door, and kids under 12 get in free.
- 3:43Dan Schulz: This could be a sneaky good night out.
- 3:48Jennifer Davis: Redmond Library has a mindfulness session Sunday, July 5th from 2:30 to 5:00 PM focused on body awareness and guided meditation.
- 3:58Jennifer Davis: This isn't one of those sit still and pretend your brain is quiet things.
- 4:03Jennifer Davis: It's more about noticing what your body's doing and slowing down enough to actually pay attention.
- 4:09Jennifer Davis: It's aimed at adults and runs a couple hours, so expect something deeper than a quick workshop.
- 4:15Jennifer Davis: Bring comfortable clothes and don't rush in late.
- 4:21Dan Schulz: Farrell McWhorter Park is doing a chicken-focused farm spotlight on Sunday, July 5th from 10 to 11 AM.
- 4:28Dan Schulz: And if you've got kids who love animals, this is easy.
- 4:32Dan Schulz: Hey, if you have me that loves animals, bring me.
- 4:34Dan Schulz: I'd like to go to this.
- 4:36Dan Schulz: The volunteers and docents will be out there talking about chickens, farm history, and answering questions while kids get up close instead of just pointing through a fence.
- 4:47Dan Schulz: It's free, but they want registration so they know exactly how many people are coming.
- 4:52Dan Schulz: This is a really fun, low-key Sunday morning plan.
- 4:58Jennifer Davis: If you've got a sprinkler system, listen up.
- 5:01Jennifer Davis: This is the time of year when people usually turn their irrigation back on and find out something broke over the winter.
- 5:08Jennifer Davis: The backflow valve's open, the meter's spinning, but none of your zones are actually running.
- 5:14Jennifer Davis: That usually means you've got an underground leak.
- 5:17Jennifer Davis: Simply Leak Detection specializes in exactly this.
- 5:21Jennifer Davis: They find irrigation leaks, slab leaks, underground pipe leaks, all without digging up your property.
- 5:28Jennifer Davis: Lincoln and his crew service the whole Puget Sound, but they do a ton of work right here on the East Side.
- 5:34Jennifer Davis: Over three hundred five-star Google reviews.
- 5:38Jennifer Davis: Spring is usually when these problems show up.
- 5:41Jennifer Davis: Check out Lincoln and his team at simplyleakdetection.biz.
- 5:45Jennifer Davis: This message brought to you by Simply Leak Detection.
- 5:50Dan Schulz: Leslie Barber is at Soul Food Coffee House on Sunday, July 5th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM for a reading and a signing of her book, Unemployable.
- 6:00Dan Schulz: The book digs into the mental side of proving your worth, which feels pretty relevant right about now.
- 6:07Dan Schulz: They'll have copies there if you want one, and Soul Food is the kind of place where the smaller events actually feel personal instead of awkward.
- 6:15Dan Schulz: This is a good option if you want something quieter that will still give you something to think about.
- 6:30Jennifer Davis: Here's one making the rounds.
- 6:32Jennifer Davis: Rumor has it a luxury picnic catering company might be taking over a small storefront in Old Redmond.
- 6:39Jennifer Davis: We're hearing it could be part prep kitchen, part retail shop.
- 6:43Jennifer Davis: Charcuterie boards, flowers, blankets, the whole deal.
- 6:47Jennifer Davis: Basically built for people trying to pull off a Mary Moore date night without making three stops first.
- 6:53Jennifer Davis: We don't know if the lease is signed or if it's actually happening yet, but if it is, which storefront do you think it is?
- 7:01Jennifer Davis: If you've got a guess or have heard something, head to our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestofredmond and drop it in the Redmond Rumor Mill guesses post.
- 7:13Jennifer Davis: And while you are at our Facebook page, search for the Your Picks post and answer this question.
- 7:19Jennifer Davis: We wanna know who you think has the best ice cream in Redmond If you've enjoyed this podcast, you're gonna love our companion newsletter.
- 7:29Jennifer Davis: Find it at bestofredmond.com, and we'll see you in the next one
- 7:32Dan Schulz: Or maybe before then, walking around Redmond.
