Latest / The Cubby and Christine Morning Show / How Old Is Pumpkin Beer? (2 Pretty Cool Things)
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Okay. I need to tell you two things.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Cubby and Christine's. Two pretty cool things. Here's a cool thing,
- 0:08Speaker 2: a Halloween fact that sounds made up, but botanically speaking,
- 0:13Speaker 2: a pumpkin is a berry. Scientists classify fruit by how
- 0:19Speaker 2: it develops, and pumpkins meet the botanical definition. Even though
- 0:23Speaker 2: they're much bigger and tougher.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yeah, put it next to a cherry.
- 0:28Speaker 2: They're bigger and tougher than berries. They're berries, basically. So
- 0:32Speaker 2: this weekend, when you're carving a pumpkin, you're carving a
- 0:35Speaker 2: giant berry.
- 0:37Speaker 1: What? Okay.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I mean, that'd be a very ambitious fruit salad.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Or I guess it kind of makes sense. You know,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you make pumpkin pie, you're making fruit pie.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Fruit pie.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Hmm. Berry pie.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Confuse people the next couple days. I don't know. Look
- 0:50Speaker 2: at that big berry on your doorstep.
- 0:52Speaker 1: My brain just kind of exploded there. But I'm talking
- 0:54Speaker 1: about pumpkins, too.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Oh, yeah? Yes. It's Battle of the Pumpkin Talk?
- 0:58Speaker 1: Sort of. Did you know pumpkin beer became really popular
- 1:02Speaker 1: in the 1980s, but it was actually early American colonists
- 1:06Speaker 1: who brewed pumpkin ale because they didn't have enough barley.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So pumpkin spice beer is technically older than the United States.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Wow. That's a fun trivia question.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Did those guys make pumpkin spice lattes, I think is
- 1:20Speaker 1: the big question.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We like pumpkin spice everything. And it's all going to
- 1:23Speaker 2: be gone soon. And it'll be replaced with all the
- 1:26Speaker 2: mint stuff, right?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah, peppermint mocha. Yes, that's happening very soon.
- 1:31Speaker 2: All right. Happy Halloween weekend.
