- 0:00Hello and welcome back to the episode of The Banks with
- 0:02Lorencia. How are you all doing if you're
- 0:03doing great For today's episode, I want to talk about the city
- 0:07boy movement and the rival village boy movement.
- 0:13Now, for some of you who don't know, the city boy movement
- 0:16started in 2022. I think it was founded by Shea
- 0:20Tunubu, the son of the president, President Bonnar
- 0:24Ahmed Tunubu. He founded the movement which
- 0:28helped to re to elect his father.
- 0:32And since the election is next year, Shaytunupu is working
- 0:35hard. He's working overtime, he's
- 0:38working day and night to reelect his father using the city boy
- 0:43movement. Now in 2022, he wasn't really
- 0:46that of a big deal because obedient movement was, you know,
- 0:50dominated the social media space.
- 0:53But the city boy movement who were heavily funded by, you
- 1:01know, who decided to get IBO influencers to make sure that
- 1:06they capture the Southeast, they go to be Cubana and Cubana chief
- 1:11priests. They call them.
- 1:13According to social media users, they said these are hungry
- 1:17billionaires. Now, honestly, I don't even see,
- 1:20in my opinion, I don't see OB Cubana or Cubana chief priests,
- 1:23billionaires. They are glorified influencers.
- 1:27They make money. Yes, they do.
- 1:29You can say it's a businessman. You can say he's this is that or
- 1:33these are glorified influencers. Now they joined the city boy
- 1:39movement. They decided to go to IMO states
- 1:44to, you know, empower people. So before then the city boy, the
- 1:50the village boy movement started.
- 1:52Their website was registered and all that.
- 1:54Anyway, for some of you who don't know what is actually
- 1:57going on, let me just play a video from Arise News.
- 2:00As as the pre election campaign activities begin to gather
- 2:03momentum, obedience have come together to form a group called
- 2:07the Village Boys Movement which has surfaced online.
- 2:10This appears to be a counter group for the public attention
- 2:13garnered by the pro Tinobu City Boys Movement.
- 2:16The movement which has allegedly which has already established
- 2:20its own website, describes itself as a movement created to
- 2:23empower the grassroots 1 village at a time.
- 2:26This comes as backlash has trailed the induction of such
- 2:29figures as Obi Iebu better known as Obi Cubana and Cubana Chief
- 2:34Priest into the city boy movement.
- 2:36A move that made Obedience feel that some Igbo businessmen are
- 2:40taking sides with the political elites and are abandoning the
- 2:43common man now. A lot of Igbo youths said that
- 2:48Obi Cubana and Cubana Chief priest joining the city boy
- 2:51movement means that they are abandoning the Igbo youths and
- 2:55also the common man. Now Obi Cubana decided to
- 2:59address that because he said listen, he's not, he's only
- 3:02educating the ignorant evil people.
- 3:07Now let me play that for you to hear from Obi Cubana's mouth.
- 3:11On your Monday, Bola, on your Monday, Bola, on your Monday
- 3:18there. Is.
- 3:21A movement called the City Boy Movement.
- 3:25It's not a political party, but it's actually designed primarily
- 3:30for the re election bid of Mr. President.
- 3:35The unique thing about this whole thing is about young
- 3:38people, mostly businessmen, not mostly politicians, but people
- 3:45who want the betterment of a neighbour.
- 3:49Our people lack knowledge and what our work is is mostly to
- 3:56educate, to give orientation, to give your orientation to our
- 4:00people to know that they will have money in A1 basket going
- 4:04forward. Today we believe in the
- 4:09government of Asawaju Bola Ahmed Tinobu and then we as young
- 4:14professionals and successful businessmen have come out to
- 4:17tell our people that we are solidly behind Mr. President, we
- 4:23are solidly behind his relation beat and then Alibo has to be
- 4:29taken to the centre. We have to be connected to the
- 4:32centre. We can't actually always be
- 4:34doing the divisive politics that we do over here.
- 4:38There must be a balance and then there will be that recognition
- 4:41of anyone because there's a lot of things to be done down here.
- 4:44We have to be connected to the gas or they connected to the
- 4:47rail. A lot of things we actually
- 4:49expect from the centre and then we feel that if we are all in
- 4:52opposition to this government, our adventure, we won't be
- 4:56remembered. Now that is a big Cubana
- 4:58literally in a very five star hotel or event centre,
- 5:06addressing the 1% of the 1%, talking about how, you know, the
- 5:14Ibos need to be educated and you know, reorientated into the
- 5:20society or the Nigerian society that got a lot of people angry
- 5:24because they said listen, educated.
- 5:29Like when Anam Dekhan was going through everything he was going
- 5:33through, you never said anything.
- 5:36When he was finally gaoled, you never said anything.
- 5:40Now you have the opportunity as the mouthpiece of the City Boys
- 5:46SE movement to negotiate, to say listen, this is our problem,
- 5:52this is one of our problems. If you can give us Namticano,
- 5:56then they we can rally the Ibos around you.
- 6:02He did not do it. Instead he was busy.
- 6:06He didn't even go out to the people.
- 6:09He sat in a very cosy event centre to to deliver the speech.
- 6:18Now as this was going on, Sure decided to have a 1,000,000 man
- 6:24match for Namdikano for the release of Namdikano Let.
- 6:37Me introduce myself to you once again.
- 6:40My name is Mazi, my title is all your justice and only for
- 6:54justice. I don't care whether you are
- 6:56evil Yoruba house or you never get tribe at all.
- 7:01Nigeria cannot thrive when world tribe is treated different from
- 7:05the others, where some people can practise terrorism openly
- 7:11getting government patronage, why some people are not asked
- 7:14for their own freedom without getting killed.
- 7:18The number of soldiers today, if they put it in, there will be no
- 7:32terrorism. They have continued to fight the
- 7:41Civil War as a Cold War. I am not here to sugarcoat
- 7:47anything or anybody now. The gun must be free whether
- 7:54they like it or not, we must assure you.
- 7:59This is what's Ube Cubana and Cubana chief priests should have
- 8:06done before signing any agreement with City Boy movement
- 8:11to say let's negotiate, let's negotiate now.
- 8:17The country has done the worst thing that has, you know, come
- 8:21that came out of Nigeria in terms of terrorism because that
- 8:25was all he was charged with. We have a whole lot of bandits
- 8:30who are being released and given jobs, rehabilitated.
- 8:39So why is he in gaol? These are the things that they
- 8:43should have addressed or they should have kind of spoken about
- 8:47before coming to say, oh, you know, the Ibos they need, they
- 8:53need education. They lack they lack information
- 8:57or education anyway. Obi Cubana, Cubana Chief
- 9:03Princess side, even aside from the city boy movement, APC party
- 9:07as a whole is now a one man party.
- 9:12Chenubo is the mandate and on your mandate, every governor,
- 9:16everybody is standing. There's no position.
- 9:21PDP is currently decapitated, Labour Party has been dead and
- 9:27buried. ADC right now is on oxygen.
- 9:32There's nothing, there's nobody, and one lady actually
- 9:37highlighted the dangers of a single party in a country.
- 9:42In light of this, it means that APC non governs more than 85% of
- 9:47Nigerian states. This is the largest political
- 9:51dominance in the Fourth Republic and it is dangerous.
- 9:55It is dangerous, It is a threat to democracy because weak
- 10:00opposition, or in this Case No opposition, equals weak
- 10:04democracy. Democracy thrives on cheques and
- 10:07balances. It thrives of being held
- 10:10accountable. If this happens, what we all see
- 10:15happening, if it happens, it means that policies will go
- 10:20unchecked. Corruption, if we think is bad.
- 10:23Now, this is going to mean more than history repeating itself,
- 10:30but let's take a deep dive. Let's rewind back to the Second
- 10:34Republic when we had adopted that new constitution, a key
- 10:38feature in it was aside from establishing the presidential
- 10:41system of government, the key feature is a multi party
- 10:46democracy that is going to operate elections at the federal
- 10:50and the state level. Let's set the scene, it's 1979,
- 10:55NPN is dominating Nigeria, it's dominating States and UPN is the
- 11:01opposition and it's not very strong.
- 11:03It had its influence in the South but it wasn't very strong.
- 11:08What ended up happening because NPN was so dominant till today,
- 11:15we're actually facing the effects of that of that
- 11:18Republic. The debt, the corruption, the
- 11:22leaders being so self-serving all started then, and this was
- 11:28what led to the cool, justified it because weak opposition
- 11:32contributed to that instability that we had in our political
- 11:35landscape because there was so much concentration of power.
- 11:41I feel like I'm literally in government class right now, but
- 11:43you guys all know how power corrupts and absolute power
- 11:45corrupts absolutely. Imagine having control over that
- 11:49many states. Corruption, electoral
- 11:52malpractice, economic mismanagement led to the coup,
- 11:57and rightfully so. It was completely justified.
- 12:00All this Dolan suit to all I'm trying to say is what APC is
- 12:04doing is dangerous, it is detrimental to Nigeria, to our
- 12:10constitution, to everybody and most people don't realise it.
- 12:16They're just celebrating IS ID count, IS my governor is now
- 12:22part of APC. You know, it's not right.
- 12:29That's not right. These people are out for blood
- 12:32and they really do not care. They really, really don't.
- 12:36They just want to take what they believe is theirs.
- 12:39You know, it's their turn. As they say, let's stay
- 12:46informed. Let's stay informed because
- 12:48they're going to start dropping dead anytime soon.
- 12:50I mean, they're in their 80s, nineties, even though they lie
- 12:53about it, they're going to start dying.
- 12:55And then it slept for us to pick up the pieces.
- 12:58As long as I'm there, if you don't know, today, the Federal
- 13:02government of Nigeria does not want me, Peter or me, the
- 13:07capital of any party. Let me know what you think.
- 13:12Do you think that APC dominating Nigeria or dominating other
- 13:19political party is a big challenge, is a big problem, is
- 13:24an issue, is democratically illegal or do you think that
- 13:31every politician have a right to join or rejoin any party or to
- 13:36decamp from one party to the other?
- 13:39It does not matter. If APC happens to be the party
- 13:42that everybody is jumping to, then there's no problem.
- 13:46Are you happy for there not to be an opposition to a party?
- 13:50Are you happy for Tunubu to draw, to win or to be reelected
- 13:55in 2027? Let me know what you think.
