Ep. 47: MNF in Jacksonville + Headlines Around the League | Jags A.M. Podcast · Jags A.M.

• 0:17
Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags Am on November Wednesday, November twenty ninth,
• 0:21
Speaker 1: This Wednesday, as we get ready for a big matchup
• 0:23
Speaker 1: against the Bengals this week, I'm Kennannie Stevens, John Over
• 0:26
Speaker 1: and Brian Sexton are with me being prepared for that game,
• 0:29
Speaker 1: and we're gonna go over some of the big things
• 0:31
Speaker 1: we're looking at this week. Our big thing number one
• 0:34
Speaker 1: this week is gonna be new goals.
• 0:36
  Speaker 2: For sure.
• 0:36
Speaker 1: This team was aiming at winning the AFC South, but
• 0:40
Speaker 1: now then eight and three record, we're looking at seeding
• 0:43
Speaker 1: in the playoffs, maybe trying to get a first round.
• 0:45
Speaker 1: By Brian, this is something we were discussing earlier this week,
• 0:48
Speaker 1: and the goals have kind of changed a little bit
• 0:51
  Speaker 1: for this team.
• 0:51
  Speaker 3: Well they happen.
• 0:52
  Speaker 4: They're realistic, guy, I mean you look, you're just a
• 0:54
Speaker 4: a win behind Baltimore, who's gonna have a bye week between.
• 0:57
Speaker 3: Now and the Jags game in a couple of weeks,
• 0:59
Speaker 3: and you're right there.
• 1:01
Speaker 4: You'd feel better about it, John, if you had beaten
• 1:03
Speaker 4: Kansas City, you'd really feel like you were in a
• 1:05
Speaker 4: strong position. But when you look at the way this
• 1:08
Speaker 4: schedule sets up, there's no Joe Burrow this week, the
• 1:11
Speaker 4: Browns are down three offensive tackles, two running backs, two quarterbacks.
• 1:15
Speaker 3: Miles Garrett is wearing a sling right now.
• 1:18
Speaker 4: You don't want to look too far ahead, but when
• 1:20
Speaker 4: you look at the opponents the rest of the way,
• 1:23
Speaker 4: it's possible you could win and end up with home
• 1:26
Speaker 4: field advantage throughout the playoffs.
• 1:28
  Speaker 3: And that's a dramatic.
• 1:29
Speaker 4: Leap forward for Doug Peterson's football team from where they
• 1:32
Speaker 4: were a year ago.
• 1:34
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 1:34
Speaker 5: I think the cool thing is they have a chance
• 1:36
  Speaker 5: to earn it, meaning it's a i'll call it a
• 1:40
Speaker 5: soft schedule, it's a manageable schedule. I think the issue
• 1:44
Speaker 5: is there's six games left. You're tied with Kansas City,
• 1:47
Speaker 5: but you got to get ahead of them.
• 1:48
  Speaker 3: Yep.
• 1:49
Speaker 5: So realistically you probably got to go five and one.
• 1:52
Speaker 5: I hope they lose two. They're the kind of team
• 1:55
Speaker 5: that may not lose too so you've got some going
• 1:58
Speaker 5: to do. You control you're destiny against Baltimore, though, and
• 2:02
Speaker 5: that's a big thing. You can get the guy who's
• 2:04
Speaker 5: ahead of you by beating that guy.
• 2:06
Speaker 4: I like this because you see the six games that
• 2:10
Speaker 4: are left and the Drags ended last season on a
• 2:12
Speaker 4: five game winning streak. Okay, do it again, right, I mean,
• 2:16
Speaker 4: get hot right now. In the last two weeks, they've
• 2:19
Speaker 4: gotten hot, and they put themselves in a position where,
• 2:22
Speaker 4: you know, Kansas City schedule is tough, but they're not
• 2:26
Speaker 4: gonna lose two, so you got to win out.
• 2:27
Speaker 3: It kind of puts them in the same mindset as
• 2:29
Speaker 3: they were last year.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: That brings us along to big thing number two among
• 2:32
  Speaker 2: the greats.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: If you want to be getting the number one seed
• 2:34
Speaker 1: in the AFC, you need to beat among the greats,
• 2:36
Speaker 1: the Chiefs, the Ravens, Miami at times, and looking at
• 2:40
Speaker 1: that schedule the rest of the way, it is doable
• 2:43
Speaker 1: to think that they could.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: Go five and one.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: Maybe that Ravens game probably the toughest one on the schedule. Yes,
• 2:47
Speaker 1: you needs to take care of business, but that's something
• 2:49
Speaker 1: we're looking at. John, That's something they could do, especially
• 2:52
Speaker 1: when you look at what they were able to do
• 2:53
Speaker 1: at the end of last year.
• 2:55
Speaker 5: Yeah, the Bengals aren't gonna be a pusholder and you know,
• 2:58
Speaker 5: they're a team that has been in two straight conference
• 3:04
Speaker 5: championship games with or without Borrow. They know how to
• 3:06
Speaker 5: keep games close. They went with Pittsburgh last week but yeah,
• 3:10
Speaker 5: I mean it plays out where if the Jaguars do
• 3:14
Speaker 5: what they have done so far this season, which is
• 3:17
Speaker 5: usually beat teams they're quote supposed to beat. I would
• 3:21
Speaker 5: say most people would say five of the six games
• 3:24
Speaker 5: left are those kind of games. The Ravens, to me,
• 3:27
Speaker 5: is a toss up if you're looking at it objectively.
• 3:29
Speaker 5: So it's there you want to be able to prove that.
• 3:33
  Speaker 5: I don't think that there's a team in the AFC
• 3:35
Speaker 5: they can't beat. I wonder at the NFC, but we're
• 3:37
Speaker 5: a long way from that.
• 3:39
Speaker 4: Well, when you look at that schedule, and John's right, Look,
• 3:41
Speaker 4: the Bengals had Jamar Chase to Higgins, Boyd Drew Sample
• 3:45
Speaker 4: scored a touchdown last week, and of course Joe Mixon
• 3:47
Speaker 4: is a guy in the backfield at six two two
• 3:50
Speaker 4: twenty five. They can pound you if you don't play
• 3:53
Speaker 4: good defense. They can keep this one close. But this
• 3:56
Speaker 4: is a should win for the Jags now that Joe
• 3:58
Speaker 4: Burrow is on injured, deserve the rest of the way.
• 4:01
Speaker 4: And I'm looking forward to that Browns game where I
• 4:03
Speaker 4: mean Deshaun Watson is gone, I mean all these guys
• 4:06
Speaker 4: are gone. There these become wins. I shouldn't say wins.
• 4:09
Speaker 4: These become games you should win. You should be able
• 4:12
Speaker 4: to go on the road and play and win if
• 4:15
Speaker 4: your team that belongs in that conversation, and I think
• 4:20
Speaker 4: all of us think that they do belong in this conversation.
• 4:23
Speaker 4: It is tough with the Ravens, but hey, I mean,
• 4:25
  Speaker 4: that's why it's a Sunday night game. It's going to
• 4:27
Speaker 4: be the marquee and they beat them last year here,
• 4:31
Speaker 4: so the thing sets up that they could get there.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: We do want to go to our final big thing,
• 4:36
Speaker 1: which is priorities, because you mentioned the Bengals, and we
• 4:38
Speaker 1: don't want to overlook the Bengals because they're a great
• 4:40
Speaker 1: team and they're coming in obviously without Joe Burrow, but
• 4:43
Speaker 1: they have a lot of talent on that team, and
• 4:44
Speaker 1: as we mentioned John, you mentioned the coaching on that
• 4:47
Speaker 1: team is good. Obviously, they're very familiar with Zach Taylor
• 4:50
Speaker 1: being Press Taylor's brother, so there's that as well. And
• 4:54
Speaker 1: also they kind of remind you a little bit of
• 4:56
Speaker 1: like a desperate team, not desperate in that sense, but
• 4:59
Speaker 1: like the forty nine ers coming in off a losing
• 5:00
Speaker 1: streak as well and kind of wanting to get back
• 5:03
Speaker 1: and prove themselves a little bit as well.
• 5:05
  Speaker 3: Well.
• 5:05
Speaker 5: They are desperate, they're in it, they're without their quarterback,
• 5:07
Speaker 5: they're five and six, So realistically for them, they have
• 5:11
Speaker 5: to figure out a way to win different than they
• 5:14
Speaker 5: thought they were gonna win coming in. They almost found
• 5:17
Speaker 5: a formula last week against Pittsburgh. There's really one mistake
• 5:20
Speaker 5: at the end of the game and they win that.
• 5:22
Speaker 5: I don't think it's realists think the Bengals make the playoffs.
• 5:26
Speaker 5: Maybe they do, but these kind of teams, the ones
• 5:30
Speaker 5: that are injured, wounded and who have had success in
• 5:34
Speaker 5: the past, they know how to win, they know how
• 5:36
Speaker 5: to keep games close. They're very dangerous Brian in moments.
• 5:41
Speaker 5: If they have seven games left, they're probably gonna get
• 5:44
Speaker 5: three because they're that kind of team. Make sure you're
• 5:47
Speaker 5: not one of those three.
• 5:48
Speaker 4: You know, we started the season with the Bills and
• 5:50
Speaker 4: the Bengals being two of the best four or five
• 5:52
Speaker 4: teams in the conference. And the Bills have had some misfortune,
• 5:56
Speaker 4: some injuries, especially on defense, and the Bengals lose their quarterback.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: So they're not hot teams right now.
• 6:02
Speaker 3: You know who are?
• 6:03
Speaker 4: The Texans are still considered a hot team. The Colts
• 6:05
Speaker 4: are considered a hot team. How about the Broncos. They
• 6:08
Speaker 4: give up seventy in September and all of a sudden,
• 6:11
Speaker 4: now they've ripped off four or five in a row
• 6:13
Speaker 4: and they're sitting at six and five and that Texans Broncos.
• 6:16
Speaker 4: This game game this weekend is considered one of the
• 6:20
Speaker 4: best games of the weekend. The thing for the Bengals
• 6:22
Speaker 4: is is that they're a team that's starting to fall
• 6:26
Speaker 4: as other teams, legitimate risers are starting to come.
• 6:30
Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting to see.
• 6:32
Speaker 4: They will be desperate, but different than San Francisco because
• 6:35
Speaker 4: San Francisco was getting healthy, they were getting Trent Williams
• 6:39
Speaker 4: and the Deebo Samuel's back, and this is a team
• 6:43
  Speaker 4: that's going forward.
• 6:44
  Speaker 3: Without the quarterback.
• 6:45
Speaker 1: Will certainly be an interesting matchup, but not one to
• 6:47
Speaker 1: take lightly for sure.
• 6:49
Speaker 2: Stay with us here on Jagsam.
• 6:51
Speaker 1: Coming up after the break, We're going to go around
• 6:52
Speaker 1: the league and go over some of the headlines.
• 7:02
Speaker 2: Welcome back to jag Zam.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: For ten years, Dreamfinders' Homes has been proud to call
• 7:05
Speaker 1: themselves the official home builder of the Jacksonville Jaguars. You
• 7:08
Speaker 1: can visit Dreamfinders homes dot Com for all of the
• 7:10
Speaker 1: available inventory and Go Jaguars.
• 7:15
Speaker 2: Welcome back to jag Zam.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: We've got a little bit of time this week because
• 7:18
Speaker 1: it's Monday Night football, so we're gonna look around the
• 7:20
Speaker 1: league a little bit and talk about some of the
• 7:22
Speaker 1: other stuff that's going on around the National Football League,
• 7:25
Speaker 1: and we're gonna start off with something that shows things
• 7:28
Speaker 1: could definitely be worse here because when we look to
• 7:30
Speaker 1: Carolina with the Panthers who just fired their head coach
• 7:33
Speaker 1: Frank Reich and now their owner David Tepper had in
• 7:37
Speaker 1: his press conference defending his pick of price of Bryce Young,
• 7:40
Speaker 1: and a lot of that coming because of what CJ.
• 7:43
Speaker 1: Stroud has been able to do. But you have to
• 7:45
Speaker 1: remember in Carolina, they gave up a ransom to get
• 7:48
Speaker 1: that pick in the first place. So Bryce Hewn really
• 7:50
Speaker 1: hasn't had much of a chance, no, if.
• 7:52
Speaker 3: They gave up two ones.
• 7:53
Speaker 4: And Dj Moore and I watched some of the game
• 7:55
Speaker 4: on Monday night, and even though the Bears didn't score
• 7:57
Speaker 4: a touchdown, Dj Moore was the guy that was moving
• 7:59
Speaker 4: the chain to put him in.
• 8:00
Speaker 3: A field goal position.
• 8:01
Speaker 4: He's a really nice football player. Yeah, it would be
• 8:05
Speaker 4: tough right now to be in Carolina because c J.
• 8:08
Speaker 4: Stroud is you'd be remorseful for the fact that you
• 8:12
Speaker 4: did not pick him. How did the people that I
• 8:15
Speaker 4: hired to run my football organization to find David Temper,
• 8:17
Speaker 4: how did they not see this?
• 8:19
  Speaker 3: Because you're paid.
• 8:20
Speaker 4: It's crystal ball business, John, You're paid to look into
• 8:23
Speaker 4: that crystal ball and be able to see who's coming
• 8:26
Speaker 4: down the pipe. And I didn't think there was any
• 8:29
  Speaker 4: I didn't think there was any doubt. I mean, I
• 8:30
Speaker 4: thought CJ. Stroud was a better prospect coming out. Now,
• 8:32
Speaker 4: I'm no personnel guy. He's gonna have to defend that
• 8:36
Speaker 4: pick for a long time.
• 8:37
Speaker 5: Well, the word is that he made the pick.
• 8:39
Speaker 3: I mean Caroline, Bryce Young's parents and all of that.
• 8:43
  Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean so, I don't know that you I
• 8:45
Speaker 5: don't know that you can blame your football people if
• 8:48
Speaker 5: you made the pick. Fired a lot of coaches in
• 8:52
Speaker 5: a very short time. It's what you always hope that
• 8:57
Speaker 5: the owner who comes in new to the league has
• 9:00
Speaker 5: to learn the league a little bit. That's what it
• 9:02
Speaker 5: feels like. I'm not close enough to Carolina to know
• 9:04
Speaker 5: that that's what it is. That's what it looks like
• 9:06
Speaker 5: from the outside, shod con for better or for us
• 9:10
Speaker 5: over the first turn or twelve years, came in wanting
• 9:15
Speaker 5: to stay out of it, wanting to do it the
• 9:17
Speaker 5: right way, giving people time. He got criticized for that,
• 9:21
Speaker 5: but in the long run, that's really the best way
• 9:25
  Speaker 5: to do it.
• 9:26
Speaker 4: If you're an NFL owner, you know, just to defend
• 9:29
Speaker 4: Bryce Young on this one, and I just got done
• 9:31
  Speaker 4: saying I would have taken c J.
• 9:32
Speaker 3: Stroud all day long.
• 9:34
Speaker 4: You know, he's a bigger guy that looks better built
• 9:36
Speaker 4: to be an NFL quarterback. But you know, Young has
• 9:39
Speaker 4: nothing to work with, as you mentioned, and he's there
• 9:42
Speaker 4: in Carolina and it's his first year, and you don't
• 9:45
Speaker 4: know that a guy who was eminently successful. He's about
• 9:48
Speaker 4: the size and as big as Russell Wilson. You know,
• 9:51
Speaker 4: is built as Russell Wilson, but he's about that height.
• 9:53
Speaker 4: You don't know that he can't come on and turn
• 9:55
Speaker 4: things along if the right coach is hired. So maybe
• 9:57
Speaker 4: he evolves. Because there were people around the league that
• 9:59
Speaker 4: wanted to give up on Trevor Lawrence after one year,
• 10:02
Speaker 4: thinking well, he's not he's not the quarterback that we
• 10:04
Speaker 4: all thought he was. Despite the horrible situation that he
• 10:07
Speaker 4: was put in by the coach who shall not be named.
• 10:09
Speaker 4: In twenty twenty one, we'll see maybe maybe Tepper gets
• 10:15
  Speaker 4: it right.
• 10:16
  Speaker 1: I mean, Jacksonville's a perfect example. We've it was very
• 10:19
Speaker 1: low before where we are right now. Shud got it
• 10:21
Speaker 1: right and very quickly. That turnaround can happen. So and
• 10:24
Speaker 1: if you have a young quarterback there as well, hopefully
• 10:26
Speaker 1: a good situation comes around for Bryce Young so they
• 10:29
Speaker 1: can turn that situation around in Carolina. Elsewhere around the league,
• 10:32
Speaker 1: we're looking at Aaron Rodgers saying he's aiming to try
• 10:35
Speaker 1: to come back reports say for Christmas Eve to play
• 10:39
Speaker 1: for the Jets, who are very much out of the
• 10:41
Speaker 1: playoff picture. He said, yes, some of it will have
• 10:43
Speaker 1: to do with whether or not they can make a
• 10:45
Speaker 1: playoff push, which doesn't look like that's realistic.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: But he's also just.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: Trying to come back and play in about two or
• 10:51
Speaker 1: three months after massive surgery.
• 10:53
Speaker 2: So that's interesting and of itself.
• 10:55
Speaker 5: I've heard that's going to bring him in a Kylees.
• 10:57
Speaker 2: I know he's got a brand new one.
• 11:00
Speaker 1: Is this realistic to think he's gonna come back you
• 11:03
Speaker 1: listen to this or is this a.
• 11:05
Speaker 4: The Achilles injury used to be one that was a
• 11:07
Speaker 4: long term injury, kind of like the ACL, and we've
• 11:10
Speaker 4: seen in recent years that the ACL is one that
• 11:12
Speaker 4: guys can come back from relatively quickly. And I guess
• 11:15
Speaker 4: Cam Akers last year or the year before, the running
• 11:17
Speaker 4: back for the ramsh came back in a short order
• 11:19
Speaker 4: four or five months from the Achilles. I remember having
• 11:23
Speaker 4: a conversation last year or the year before well when
• 11:26
Speaker 4: James Robinson tore his with a doctor who said that
• 11:29
Speaker 4: they've completely changed the surgery and maybe he can come back.
• 11:33
Speaker 4: But he's also forty years old, and that seems to
• 11:37
Speaker 4: me to be a red flag, like, hey, if they're
• 11:40
Speaker 4: not going to the playoffs, why would you want to
• 11:41
  Speaker 4: do this.
• 11:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, things can advance very rapidly with different kinds of injuries.
• 11:47
Speaker 5: And I heard the same thing you did about James Robinson.
• 11:51
Speaker 5: If the technology has changed, they can get in there
• 11:55
Speaker 5: and do what they need to do and get the
• 11:59
Speaker 5: tension right now that you couldn't do before. One thing
• 12:04
Speaker 5: in Rogers's favor, I don't think James ever made it
• 12:09
Speaker 5: back because it's an injury that's tough for running back.
• 12:12
Speaker 5: It's because it's tough for it to ever be right
• 12:14
Speaker 5: again in terms of the pop. In terms of stability
• 12:17
Speaker 5: at quarterback, it's sort of like with an ACL. You
• 12:20
Speaker 5: don't worry as much about an ACL with a quarterback
• 12:23
Speaker 5: because you don't have to have that pop and that acceleration.
• 12:26
Speaker 5: So if it's stable, could Aaron come in and as
• 12:30
Speaker 5: intelligent as he is, be very be Okay? Perhaps?
• 12:36
Speaker 4: But you know, he's also a quarterback who's known to
• 12:38
Speaker 4: move right. I mean, he's not a stand in the
• 12:40
Speaker 4: pocket guy. He's not a statue. He makes a lot
• 12:42
Speaker 4: of his place rolling right with that powerful arm throwing
• 12:44
Speaker 4: it back to the left. I wonder if he has
• 12:46
Speaker 4: to change his style of play. The other thing that
• 12:48
Speaker 4: I've heard about this is that he feels invested in this.
• 12:51
Speaker 4: There are a lot of players and coaches that he
• 12:54
Speaker 4: asked the Jets or hinted strongly that the Jets should
• 12:57
Speaker 4: be interested in and that organization was for him, and
• 13:01
Speaker 4: he feels the need to come back and validate those moves.
• 13:04
Speaker 4: But I'm not sure you can validate it this season.
• 13:07
Speaker 2: I'm not sure either.
• 13:08
Speaker 1: And also maybe he can move around himself, but that
• 13:11
Speaker 1: offensive line hasn't been great either, so you've got to
• 13:14
Speaker 1: be able to protect yourself when you get back on
• 13:15
Speaker 1: the football field too. Our final thing we're going to
• 13:18
Speaker 1: look at around the league a little bit closer to home.
• 13:20
Speaker 1: Fred Taylor is again among the semi finalists for the
• 13:23
Speaker 1: Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now I think this is
• 13:25
Speaker 1: fifth time in the semi finalists and then there's an
• 13:27
  Speaker 1: additional stage.
• 13:28
Speaker 4: But here's hoping, right, Yeah, he absolutely deserves this.
• 13:35
Speaker 5: The key here for Fred is he's been He's been
• 13:39
Speaker 5: a semi finalist four times. I've always thought with Fred,
• 13:43
Speaker 5: if he can quote get in the room, meaning get
• 13:46
Speaker 5: in the fifteen, that's where they discuss you. In the
• 13:50
Speaker 5: next it'd be about a month long discussion. They do
• 13:54
Speaker 5: it a little different than they used to, but that's
• 13:56
Speaker 5: where they start discussing you, and that's where they really
• 13:59
Speaker 5: look at the numbers. That's where they look at stats.
• 14:02
Speaker 5: That's where they look at, oh, he's a four point
• 14:04
Speaker 5: six yard per carry for his career. Only two guys
• 14:08
Speaker 5: in front of him in the all time list are
• 14:09
Speaker 5: better than that. It's where you start looking at things
• 14:11
Speaker 5: like we're showing and people go, oh, I forgot how
• 14:14
Speaker 5: good he was. Tony Biselli was off the radar for
• 14:19
Speaker 5: three or four years. In terms of the Hall of Fame.
• 14:21
Speaker 5: He got back in the radar when he got in
• 14:24
Speaker 5: the room and people started discussing and making calls on
• 14:27
Speaker 5: him and talking to people who played against him. I've
• 14:30
Speaker 5: always thought the same thing would happen to Fred once
• 14:33
Speaker 5: voters start making calls to former players, talk to guys
• 14:37
Speaker 5: on the Steelers, and they would say, I don't know
• 14:40
Speaker 5: who else is in, but this guy has to be in.
• 14:42
Speaker 5: I think the discussion when Fred can get in, it
• 14:45
Speaker 5: will vote very well for Fred.
• 14:46
Speaker 4: Well, there's another actor in this drama, and that is
• 14:49
Speaker 4: the gentleman who has the vote. Every NFL franchise has
• 14:52
Speaker 4: a vote that they give to a member of the media,
• 14:55
Speaker 4: and longtime Channel four sportscaster Sam Kubaris has that vote
• 14:58
Speaker 4: and has had it since, you know, nineteen ninety five
• 15:01
Speaker 4: when the Weaver family gave it to him. So when
• 15:04
Speaker 4: he's in the room, he's got to make the case.
• 15:08
Speaker 4: He's got to stand up and pound the table as
• 15:10
Speaker 4: he did for Tony Passeli. Now it's changed a bit.
• 15:12
Speaker 4: There are other guys who get involved in this. But
• 15:14
Speaker 4: here's why it's important. Because Sam covered Fred from the
• 15:18
Speaker 4: time his career started until the time he left Jacksonville.
• 15:21
Speaker 4: He knows everything there is to know about Fred, and
• 15:25
Speaker 4: he is a good salesman and can make a good
• 15:27
  Speaker 4: pitch for it.
• 15:28
Speaker 3: What happens if this.
• 15:29
Speaker 4: Doesn't go on for another ten years, and perhaps Sam
• 15:32
Speaker 4: has moved on and doesn't have the vote anymore, then
• 15:33
Speaker 4: you have somebody who's covering the Hall of Fame vote
• 15:36
Speaker 4: who didn't cover Fred. It's not as easy to stand
• 15:39
Speaker 4: up and to make that case and to call the
• 15:41
Speaker 4: other voters. I would say, having had this conversation with
• 15:44
Speaker 4: Sam recently, he's personally invested in pursuing this and pushing
• 15:48
Speaker 4: the case with bred Taylor, and I expect that that'll
• 15:51
Speaker 4: be a valuable asset as they go and I know
• 15:54
Speaker 4: Fred knows that too.
• 15:55
Speaker 5: And it's tough until they get in. At fifteen, you're
• 15:59
Speaker 5: almost off the radar in terms of being able to
• 16:01
Speaker 5: pound the table for a guy, the fact that he's
• 16:04
Speaker 5: been in the twenty five. There were only two first
• 16:08
Speaker 5: year guys in that semi finals list this year, so
• 16:13
Speaker 5: five got in last year, so they go away a
• 16:16
Speaker 5: little bit. I hope from look at the names, we're
• 16:22
Speaker 5: biased because we covered Fred and the big truth to
• 16:25
Speaker 5: this is every market is biased toward their guy. There's
• 16:29
Speaker 5: twenty five guys on that list. There's twenty five conversations
• 16:33
Speaker 5: going around the league this morning that guy should be in.
• 16:35
Speaker 5: But I think Fred's got a chance to get into
• 16:37
Speaker 5: fifteen this year, and I think once he gets into fifteen,
• 16:40
Speaker 5: he will stay there for a couple of years, and
• 16:42
Speaker 5: then I think he eventually gets in because I think
• 16:46
Speaker 5: people who go back and do the research and talk
• 16:50
Speaker 5: to coaches and former players will vouch for how good
• 16:53
Speaker 5: he was. He's a Hall of famer who I would
• 17:00
Speaker 5: say already should be. I don't think he was a lock,
• 17:03
Speaker 5: but certainly in that second or third level process, uh,
• 17:08
  Speaker 5: he deserves.
• 17:08
Speaker 3: To be in. Agreed.
• 17:10
Speaker 1: Let's hope he makes that next step and then we
• 17:12
Speaker 1: can get a little bit farther on along the journey
• 17:14
Speaker 1: and we eventually get Fred Taylor there.
• 17:16
Speaker 2: Stay with's here on Jagzam.
• 17:17
Speaker 1: We're gonna look ahead, do a little bit of this
• 17:19
Speaker 1: or that for our matchup this week against the Bengals.

Speaker 1: Try price dot com today welcome back to jag Zam.
• 17:40
Speaker 1: We're gonna do a little this or that as we
• 17:42
Speaker 1: look ahead. Monday night football for the first time since
• 17:45
Speaker 1: twenty eleven. I know that's kind of around what your
• 17:47
Speaker 1: this or that is.
• 17:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's low hanging fruit, but you know, we have
• 17:50
Speaker 4: these extra days. So I went with, you know, what
• 17:52
Speaker 4: would you rather have a Sunday night game or Monday
• 17:54
Speaker 4: night game? What is the Thursday? I put it in there,
• 17:58
Speaker 4: but Thursday clearly not on the same caliber.
• 18:01
Speaker 3: What would you go with? You know, I favor Monday.
• 18:03
Speaker 4: Because it's the only game that day and because it
• 18:05
Speaker 4: was the game in my youth.
• 18:07
Speaker 3: I mean, it delivered huge ratings. Monday Night Football was it.
• 18:11
Speaker 4: And obviously the product has been diluted over time, and
• 18:14
Speaker 4: Monday Night Football fell off when Sunday Night Football rose.
• 18:16
Speaker 4: But I think Monday Night Football is making a comeback,
• 18:19
Speaker 4: and I think that's the prime time game my brother have.
• 18:21
Speaker 5: It's a little bit like in this day and age,
• 18:23
Speaker 5: these kind of questions are always dependent on how that
• 18:27
Speaker 5: individual person consumes, like what you remember and all day.
• 18:31
Speaker 5: Brian and I are old men, and you know all
• 18:33
Speaker 5: there was was a tube TV, so you watched everything right, Well,
• 18:37
Speaker 5: three channels. Sunday is the premium game still, So if
• 18:42
Speaker 5: all you are is somebody who watches the game, then
• 18:47
Speaker 5: Sunday is the game. But Monday certainly has more build up.
• 18:51
Speaker 5: If you're the kind of fan who goes home at
• 18:53
Speaker 5: five point thirty, gets fired up about the game, sits
• 18:56
Speaker 5: starts watching all the ESPN preview, all the stuff leading
• 19:00
Speaker 5: up to it. If you're into that sort of excitement,
• 19:03
Speaker 5: then Monday I think gives more breathing room for the
• 19:07
Speaker 5: respect that everybody wants out of a Monday night game.
• 19:10
Speaker 5: So I would probably still go Sunday because that's the
• 19:14
Speaker 5: premium game that's been the biggest.
• 19:16
Speaker 4: I mean, that's the matchup that the league is Sunday. Yeah,
• 19:19
Speaker 4: although you know, ESPN put a ton of money into
• 19:22
Speaker 4: this latest package, and they hired Joe Buck and Troy Aikman,
• 19:25
Speaker 4: and each one of them are making top of the
• 19:27
Speaker 4: scale to be in that booth, and you're getting some
• 19:30
Speaker 4: great games for Monday Night Football this year. You're still
• 19:33
Speaker 4: going to get some dogs, you know, when you get
• 19:35
Speaker 4: Chicago in Minnesota against each other, and neither one of
• 19:39
Speaker 4: them is a premier team this year. But the league
• 19:42
Speaker 4: and ESPN ABC is really putting a lot of effort
• 19:46
Speaker 4: into trying to take this back.
• 19:47
Speaker 5: I guess yeah. I would say for now, Sunday is
• 19:51
Speaker 5: still the game that I think most people think of
• 19:55
Speaker 5: as the premier game. So I guess I'd rather have Sunday.
• 19:59
Speaker 5: But but I think the key is beyond it enough
• 20:03
Speaker 5: where you're on both in the same.
• 20:06
Speaker 4: Year, and they are both in three weeks time after
• 20:10
Speaker 4: many years of not having it.
• 20:11
Speaker 5: I heard, I think and here, which is cool for fans.
• 20:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think JP Tradgwick told me they haven't had
• 20:15
Speaker 1: Sunday night football since two thousand and eight.
• 20:16
  Speaker 2: Is that true?
• 20:17
Speaker 5: It's even longer they haven't had Sunday night football. They
• 20:19
Speaker 5: had that crew, and that bunch was here for final
• 20:24
Speaker 5: game last year and playoff games.
• 20:28
Speaker 4: They never had a true Sunday night football game ever.
• 20:32
Speaker 4: They had the Sunday Night crew for the Wildcard game
• 20:35
Speaker 4: in Pittsburgh in two thousand and seven, and then they
• 20:38
Speaker 4: fell off so sharply. Right in twenty eighteen, we were
• 20:41
Speaker 4: supposed to have the Steelers here on Sunday Night Football,
• 20:44
Speaker 4: but we got flexed out because neither the Jaguars nor
• 20:46
Speaker 4: the Steelers, well, Steels are always to draw. The Jaguars certainly weren't,
• 20:49
Speaker 4: so they flexed us out.
• 20:51
Speaker 2: I think that's the cool thing.
• 20:52
Speaker 1: I mean, it's cool now that you can flex games
• 20:55
Speaker 1: on any day, even Monday now, But Sunday was always
• 20:57
Speaker 1: like you earned it because if you could still keep
• 20:59
Speaker 1: that prime time game on Sunday, that means you were
• 21:01
  Speaker 1: the best matchup.
• 21:02
Speaker 2: They expected the best game out of you. So that
• 21:04
  Speaker 2: was always cool.
• 21:05
Speaker 1: And it was always like I always felt like Sunday
• 21:07
Speaker 1: night was like you had the full day, and then
• 21:08
Speaker 1: it was like that's the cherry on top of the
• 21:10
Speaker 1: whole day. So Mondays aren't always cool because it's just
• 21:13
Speaker 1: you get through work on Monday to watch football Monday night.
• 21:16
Speaker 3: Well, and here's the thing.
• 21:17
Speaker 4: I think people can get used to the idea of
• 21:18
Speaker 4: several primetime games. I mean, this is now going to
• 21:21
Speaker 4: be a marquee team with this quarterback, so it won't
• 21:24
Speaker 4: really matter whether it's Sunday night or Monday night because
• 21:25
Speaker 4: you're going to be on BOAD.
• 21:27
Speaker 1: Hopefully it becomes a norm. That's always a good thing. John,
• 21:29
Speaker 1: what's or this or that for us?
• 21:30
Speaker 5: This way? Oh, is this an opportunity meaning you're on
• 21:33
Speaker 5: national TV to show Uh, maybe show the world that
• 21:37
Speaker 5: you're not what you were against San Francisco, which was
• 21:40
Speaker 5: the last time. Or is it a trap game? And
• 21:43
Speaker 5: I uh, I'm not big into the trap game usually,
• 21:48
Speaker 5: but this one feels a little bit like a trap game.
• 21:52
Speaker 5: As soon as Burrow got hurt. The emails that I
• 21:56
Speaker 5: got from fans, which isn't to how players think, but
• 21:58
Speaker 5: the emails were, let's when well, you hope that this
• 22:04
Speaker 5: team's not thinking that way because the Bengals are good
• 22:09
Speaker 5: enough even without Burrow to make this a three to
• 22:12
Speaker 5: seven game in the in the not seven to three,
• 22:15
Speaker 5: but a seven to three point game in the fourth quarter,
• 22:18
Speaker 5: and anything can happened. So I think it's an opportunity
• 22:21
Speaker 5: for it not to be a track game, if that
• 22:23
Speaker 5: makes any sense, because you got to play well. It
• 22:25
Speaker 5: is an opportunity to show the world that you're good,
• 22:29
Speaker 5: and I think they will. But you gotta be careful
• 22:32
Speaker 5: because just because Burrow is not in doesn't mean it
• 22:34
  Speaker 5: seems bad.
• 22:34
Speaker 4: Well, and I think this team, I mean, they were
• 22:37
Speaker 4: smarting when they left the field against San Francisco. They
• 22:41
Speaker 4: felt all of that and more so, I think they'll
• 22:44
Speaker 4: take this as an opportunity.
• 22:46
Speaker 3: Plus, when you turn on the tape, you still see Jamar.
• 22:48
Speaker 4: Chase and Higgins and Boyd who are game wrecking wide receivers.
• 22:53
Speaker 4: Difficult matchups, and you have got to be on your
• 22:57
Speaker 4: game because if you give that quarterback to these guys
• 23:01
Speaker 4: are going to get open for him. That guy in particular,
• 23:04
Speaker 4: I think he's the best receiver in the league.
• 23:06
Speaker 3: I don't know what you think about him.
• 23:07
Speaker 4: I just think he is a money player and he's
• 23:10
Speaker 4: going to do everything he can to help his quarterback.
• 23:12
Speaker 4: And if he's throwing the ball, then all of a sudden,
• 23:14
Speaker 4: you've got a running game. And I know you talked
• 23:15
Speaker 4: to Jeff Hopson this week for the website. Their running
• 23:18
Speaker 4: game has really fallen off this year. And so if
• 23:22
Speaker 4: you have a quarterback who they want to support with
• 23:24
Speaker 4: the run, who's able to throw the ball and they
• 23:27
Speaker 4: can actually run, oh, they can make it really hard
• 23:30
Speaker 4: on you. This is still into talented, explosive team. You
• 23:33
Speaker 4: should win the game because they don't have their quarterback,
• 23:35
Speaker 4: but if you don't play well, or if you just
• 23:38
Speaker 4: play down a level, then they can get you.
• 23:40
Speaker 5: If Steelers decided they were going to shut down the
• 23:42
Speaker 5: run and then make the rookie beating or the young
• 23:45
Speaker 5: quarterback beat him. I'm assuming the Jaguars will have a
• 23:49
Speaker 5: slice of that in the game plan. Look, it's a
• 23:54
Speaker 5: game you ought to win, and you got to go
• 23:56
Speaker 5: out and play well enough to do it. They've done
• 23:58
Speaker 5: that in that situation a lot. I trust this team
• 24:00
  Speaker 5: to do that.
• 24:00
Speaker 4: It's catches like that one we just saw where Jamar
• 24:02
Speaker 4: Chase doesn't even look back and puts his hands up,
• 24:04
Speaker 4: kind of just sees it out of the periphery and
• 24:06
  Speaker 4: makes a touchdown catch. I mean that's he is a
• 24:09
Speaker 4: great player, and that means you have to play great
• 24:13
Speaker 4: otherwise he'll keep it close.
• 24:15
Speaker 3: And I mean, I think it's worth saying.
• 24:17
Speaker 4: I mean, I at least have some remorse for the
• 24:19
Speaker 4: fact that we were not going to see the showdown
• 24:21
Speaker 4: between Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow. I mean, that was
• 24:24
Speaker 4: a marquee matchup. I wish he was healthy. I know
• 24:28
Speaker 4: Trevor said the other day he doesn't want the other
• 24:30
  Speaker 4: quarterbacks to be.
• 24:31
Speaker 2: Healthy, which he should say say that he.
• 24:33
Speaker 4: Just wants the other teams not to be as good.
• 24:35
Speaker 4: But I was looking forward to watching that one. I
• 24:37
Speaker 4: thought that was going to be a great game.
• 24:38
Speaker 1: This was the game I was most looking forward to
• 24:40
Speaker 1: this season specifically because of that matchup, and unfortunately we're
• 24:43
Speaker 1: not going to get that. But I think this is
• 24:45
Speaker 1: an opportunity for my This or that I kind of
• 24:48
Speaker 1: looked at, is this an opportunity for Trevor to have
• 24:50
Speaker 1: that breakout offensive performance or do we think it'll be
• 24:53
Speaker 1: a situation where they don't have their starting quarterbacks so
• 24:56
  Speaker 1: the defense.
• 24:56
Speaker 2: Will dominate in this game.
• 24:57
Speaker 1: And I'm looking at this and I'm saying this based
• 25:00
Speaker 1: I think they're going to take care of business because
• 25:02
Speaker 1: they have had big games before and we've seen them
• 25:05
Speaker 1: two times the Chiefs and the forty nine ers not
• 25:09
Speaker 1: go the way they wanted to go, And I'm thinking
• 25:10
Speaker 1: the third time around, if this is going to be
• 25:12
Speaker 1: the team we expect them to be, they need to
• 25:13
Speaker 1: take care of business in this game. I don't think
• 25:16
Speaker 1: they're going to take it lightly, and I don't know
• 25:18
Speaker 1: how they're going to win. So that's why I kind
• 25:19
Speaker 1: of went with both sides of it, is like, do
• 25:21
Speaker 1: I think Trevor is going to keep improving what we
• 25:23
Speaker 1: see from Titans to Texans to now kind of have
• 25:26
Speaker 1: a breakout offensive performance where people really can't doubt it anymore,
• 25:30
Speaker 1: or is it going to be the defense again that
• 25:32
  Speaker 1: paves the day.
• 25:33
Speaker 4: Well, you could make the case for either. So I'll
• 25:34
Speaker 4: take Trevor's breakout because this defense has been susceptible to
• 25:38
  Speaker 4: big plays.
• 25:39
  Speaker 3: Down the field.
• 25:40
Speaker 4: They have one really good pass rusher and a very
• 25:44
Speaker 4: solid defensive line, especially with DJ Reader in the middle,
• 25:48
Speaker 4: but they're not dominant upfront. And if the Jaguars offensive line,
• 25:52
Speaker 4: who didn't give up a sack last week, and the
• 25:54
Speaker 4: only sack they'd given up in the last two weeks,
• 25:56
Speaker 4: they didn't really give up that was when Trevor ran
• 25:58
Speaker 4: out of bounds with the ball in his hand against
• 26:00
Speaker 4: the Titans, So they're playing well. I expect that they
• 26:03
Speaker 4: will be able to play well this week, right with
• 26:06
Speaker 4: Cleveland in there and Walker back to left tackle where
• 26:09
Speaker 4: he is a very comfortable player, and I think they'll
• 26:11
Speaker 4: be able to get their shots down the field.
• 26:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, my guess is that Trevor will play well enough
• 26:17
Speaker 5: to have a breakout performance. I don't know if the
• 26:20
Speaker 5: game will play out that he needs to have the
• 26:22
Speaker 5: breakout performance, because I think the defense will be able
• 26:25
Speaker 5: to control Cincinnati. If the Bengals score, then I think
• 26:31
Speaker 5: Trevor will have a breakout performance, because I think he'll
• 26:34
Speaker 5: need to if the Bengals aren't scoring. I could easily
• 26:38
Speaker 5: see them being a little more conservative offensively in the
• 26:41
Speaker 5: second half, which would keep Trevor having those numbers that
• 26:43
Speaker 5: you're talking about. I think they will. I think they
• 26:46
Speaker 5: both will play well and win the game. My guess
• 26:48
Speaker 5: is that when people watch it, they will look at
• 26:51
Speaker 5: Trevor and say, oh, he played well, two hundred and
• 26:55
Speaker 5: thirty yards, a touchdown, no interception, that sort of thing,
• 26:57
Speaker 5: and control the game, which gets you a win. And
• 27:02
Speaker 5: that's the kind of game I'm expecting. I've been wrong.
• 27:07
Speaker 4: You know, you take you take a steady win because
• 27:10
Speaker 4: while we have more time this week, the flip side
• 27:12
Speaker 4: of Monday night football is you have less time next
• 27:14
Speaker 4: week to get ready to go to Cleveland, where the
• 27:15
Speaker 4: weather will be a factor, and you know it will
• 27:18
Speaker 4: be a physical game because that's the way the Browns
• 27:20
  Speaker 4: are built.
• 27:20
Speaker 1: True, although it feels like Cleveland weather outside right now,
• 27:23

  Speaker 1: to need.
• 27:27
Speaker 2: A coat here, and I'm still well upset about it.
• 27:30
Speaker 2: I got my sweater on today anyway, Are.
• 27:31
Speaker 3: You glad you can wear a sweater?
• 27:33
Speaker 1: I do, Actually, I do have a whole winter warndrobe night.

Speaker 6: I'm not gonna fake a whole lot of raw rocks.

• 28:14
Speaker 6: what we do. That's all we gotta do. It's not
• 28:17
Speaker 6: gonna take two a man. It's not gonna take nothing
• 28:19
Speaker 6: special to your job. You'll spect your teammateers, fight boom,
• 28:24
  Speaker 6: honored with.
• 28:24
Speaker 5: Your game, Honor this game with two places as a
• 28:26
  Speaker 5: little kid.
• 28:27

• 28:28
Speaker 4: That's all you gotta do.
• 28:29
Speaker 6: On Pharmis you give it everything you've got, and I

• 28:45
Speaker 1: and it's a good one this week. You definitely want
• 28:46
Speaker 1: to check it out. Whenever there's a last second play,
• 28:49
  Speaker 1: that's always a good one.
• 28:49
Speaker 4: You know, when you when you see some of the
• 28:51
Speaker 4: guys who are in that shot. You see Za Jones
• 28:54
Speaker 4: and Trayvon Walker, and Dewey's there, Devin Lloyd is there,
• 28:58
Speaker 4: Andre Cisco, Johnny's are all guys who a.
• 29:00
Speaker 3: Year ago weren't versed in what this part of the
• 29:05
  Speaker 3: year is like.
• 29:06
Speaker 4: They had to go through it that every Sunday feels
• 29:09
Speaker 4: like a playoff game because if you lose, you're out.
• 29:12
Speaker 4: They would have fallen back in the standings and they
• 29:14
Speaker 4: wouldn't have made the postseason. It's one of the reasons
• 29:16
Speaker 4: why I have optimism, besides the schedule that lays out
• 29:20
Speaker 4: over the next couple of weeks, that they can make
• 29:21
Speaker 4: a run at the number one seed, because you got
• 29:23
Speaker 4: a lot of young, talented guys who are playing better
• 29:25
Speaker 4: than they did last year and they know.
• 29:28
Speaker 3: Now what it takes.
• 29:29
Speaker 5: Well. It's a mentally a tough team. I mentioned on Monday,
• 29:34
  Speaker 5: they're mature teams. So they're a good team. They've won
• 29:36
Speaker 5: eight straight road games. It's not inconceivable that you could
• 29:43
Speaker 5: go through this road schedule, you know, knock on whatever,
• 29:47
Speaker 5: But I mean it's set up. The reason I think
• 29:52
Speaker 5: they've got a chance at it, meaning getting that number
• 29:54
Speaker 5: one seed, is that they are such a focused and
• 29:59
Speaker 5: good road team that it gives them a shot to
• 30:03
Speaker 5: get through some games that could be hiccup games. This
• 30:07
Speaker 5: team has not hiccuped very often since in the middle
• 30:10
Speaker 5: of the last season. They've lost to the Lions, a
• 30:12
Speaker 5: good Texans team, the forty nine ers, and the Chiefs.
• 30:16
Speaker 5: Usually you got to be pretty good to beat this team.
• 30:19
Speaker 3: Do you remember when what was a losing streak on
• 30:21
Speaker 3: the road? Nineteen or twenty straight game?
• 30:23
Speaker 5: It was many, I mean it was it was until
• 30:26
Speaker 5: they won their first win twenty or twenty one. Right.
• 30:29
Speaker 4: The last road win they had was in Cincinnati in
• 30:31
Speaker 4: twenty nineteen. That was the last time they'd won on
• 30:34
Speaker 4: the road until last year when they won and I
• 30:36
Speaker 4: forget which was the first road win against Doug and
• 30:38
  Speaker 4: now they've.
• 30:39
Speaker 3: Won every one since.
• 30:40
Speaker 4: It was the Chargers out there a week three. Yeah,
• 30:42
Speaker 4: that's right, when they won in Los Angeles last year.
• 30:45
Speaker 4: It broke a twenty game losing streak on the road
• 30:47
Speaker 4: and now they've got eight straight, so right, and that's
• 30:50
  Speaker 4: a remarkable tournam.
• 30:51
  Speaker 3: It really is.
• 30:52
Speaker 4: What they've done here is remarkable, and it's why Doug
• 30:55
Speaker 4: feels so confident, saying we haven't done anything yet. There's
• 30:59
Speaker 4: much more ahead for where they want this franchise to be.
• 31:02
Speaker 1: So it is, but it's in the works and we're
• 31:05
Speaker 1: witnessing it as it happens. So tomorrow on Jackzam, we're
• 31:08
Speaker 1: going to deep dive into that Bengals matchup. Get you
• 31:10
Speaker 1: guys ready for Monday night football, the first Monday Night
• 31:13
Speaker 1: football since twenty eleven here in Jacksonville. All right, we'll
