- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Gentlemen, football is back.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: How are we feeling?
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: You got a little Hall of Fame game tonight.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Who you're rooting for?
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm rooting for everybody to have fun.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: And for nobody to get seriously injured.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, I don't even know.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'll probably tune in for five minutes and then do my usual dad.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: This is.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: it's not that fun to watch right now.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, it's back.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's we're able to talk and see, you know, you guys have been able to release for the past two weeks, especially with with training camp, starting up talking about just what's been going on.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I'm excited to finally be back.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, perfect time with that.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Everything going on this Saturday with the scrimmage and, uh, just, uh, it's going to be fun
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you like a Greek hot out there for a few a few weeks or what yeah, for a few for a few weeks, you know, you know, he learned some great great things from the Greek god, so maybe you know, maybe Joe Brady should bring that into the locker a little bit.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Scott, cut you off there.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: I was like I'm reading for points about the over I was seeing every year and it's great.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe this is here.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't miss a football.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: won't know until I know.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: But excited to watch Carson back out there.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: Last time I saw him was the last college football game of last season throw in the interception to seal the national championship for Indiana.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: We got Kenny Pickett starting out there.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you guys saw what Pit posted, like Pit football was a picture of Kenny Pickett that just said Hall of Fame.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: And then in small prints above and below, it said starting the Hall of Fame game.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't say, uh, to want to win championships come come here.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana, didn't say that.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was a tough tough tough tough sound by from the Purdue, uh, the Purdue, uh, AD after Indiana won the most recent football championship.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: And Purdue made a championship back well a couple of years ago in loss.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know if their football team made a bold game since the mix and the administration.
- 3:11[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Tough one.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well played.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm excited to any time to get a chance.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think Joe Brady said it to on one Bill's live earlier about just getting any chance to watch footballs a good time and even though it may not be the highest caliber of competition out there, I will enjoy thoroughly what we get to see of it after we're done here with you all talking about Bill's training camp.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: First bit of news here, the Bill's sign, Otis Reese, the fourth place to meet his planning and foals on IR, the former Georgia Bulldog, and went to Mississippi as well in college, started off with the Tennessee Titans.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: He runs about 6-3-2-15-ish.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll be a campbody by all my accounts.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: What do you guys have anything else on Otis, Reese, as far as that signing?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, there was some rumbling about Flanagan Fools being able to push for a role here, but derailed with an IR student.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Any chance now, I guess we are going to talk linebackers on the show so we can get into more him later, but just any quick thoughts you want to say about Otis Rees or Dimitrius Flanagan Fools.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's, you kind of saw with that, I mean, at least I saw with I've known bunch of people saw it with the posting of Aaron Donald's workout on the NFL website and the screen shot right above it, you saw the bills were working out linebackers.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you kind of knew that they were looking here to see if they could add, make this move to place DFF on IR.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: And Otis Reese is his here, maybe he can push for maybe like a practice squad spot.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think he actually has a kind of a good spot to change to do that with how we can maybe this interior lineback of group is.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Because he didn't play a ton last year at all.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I believe he had about 30 or 40 tackles and there's absolutely no more over there than in London.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had the book.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: two years ago.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, there it was.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: I saw something about his status.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: So he has had playing time in the NFL, but now fighting to see if maybe he can make the practice squad.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: And if somebody goes down maybe he's a guy in the down the road that we look at, but as for right now, not a ton to look at with him.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Lance, you're muted.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, Darna had a perfectly time.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's a can confirm he is a guy.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wasn't that exciting.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: After half an on mute.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: You can't confirm that.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's a male.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he is a male athlete.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure I want him to know how you know that, but I think he has potential to be maybe more than just the camp body.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: He was on the Titans roster for two years.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: That Patriots practice squad last year.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: Patriots camp this year got put.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: Probably a long shot to make the team, but like you mentioned it better.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: You got Dorian William.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about it later.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, don't want to spoil too much.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: But you got TV, Dorian Williams, and then KEO, who are locks, and then that fourth spot.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like, not like there's anybody else who's in incumbent there.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: So, you could maybe try to try to grab that.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: Probably a long shop.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, that's a guy who has NFL experience that you're not, not always signing guys with that this time of year.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: So, excited to see what he can do in some
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: is that Buffalo Joe's slander or just spin vx?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we'll talk about it.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it does seem like Buffalo Joe is getting a whole bunch of reps with groupings that matter.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: So that may have a great set.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Hey Scott, groupings on the defense.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: Tell us all about them, please.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Read a list.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we did some 11.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to read a list.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: Did some 11 on 11.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: Most of the spots on the defense are pretty locked up as far as the starters go, but it was geo and walker, who was out there as the nose tackle, he missed a couple days this week with our.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: Again, don't want to know how you know of all these people's body cards.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: Sanders and Oliver out there, we talked about it last week.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: How TJ Sanders seems to have a big year.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: CJ Gardner Johnson back out there, but and then Bernard Williams went for Harrison, Cole Bishop.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: So about the 11 guys you'd expect, thought maybe Walker may not be the nose, but it seems like he will be.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the 11 guys that have out there, you can't so far.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: Not really any surprises,
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: this day was the first time I saw it, so if it was worth mentioning.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no surprise is really.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're going to have TJ Sanders out there.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what push he gets from anyone, if land and jacks in or any of those guys are going to be there.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: And the sort of the what the rotation is for him, Sanders is probably the most rotatable piece as far as the ends go.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then Walker's going to rotate, obviously, math, they like math as a bit.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: and talk about cleaning up some technique things today in Jim Leonard's press conference, but overall, for Mathis, but overall exciting to see Walker there.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to do enough with those positions.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think we talked a little bit last week about the defense of line, but Ben, you can give some more thoughts on this, too, is just moving some guys around and not always playing traditional head-up on the center type of defense.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: what you see as the starting lineup is not necessarily what you're going to see maybe all the time.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: You might yeah, DM Walker might be listed as the starting knows tackle, but he could be moved around along the day to the D line, you know, throughout the game.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm depending on what team they're playing everything.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, I think especially when you talk about the D-Line, I'm guessing you guys got into it a lot last week about it.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: It is going to be a chess match basically for Jim Leonard each and every down and I think he's going to have plans for these guys of where he wants them to play and how much he wants them to play in these certain spots along the D-Line.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe certainly there probably will be one or two that stick mostly with with that one spot that they have but I feel like for the most part you have so many guys that you can move around so many versatile players here That can move inside and out so I'm excited to see what they do with that and you know now we get to see I guess on paper who they have as as their number ones at certain positions.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: for sure.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're going to pick one other news story from today, real quick, and each just kind of do a little bit of a solo rundown on it.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: For me, I'm going to go with CJ Gardner Johnson, had a little scare there with a lower calf strain, and then coming back today at practice in the list.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: pretty healthy, so he avoided any long-term injury, and it's a great thing.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: He'll be able to continue to do his live streams that are absolutely pointless on Twitch, and then he'll continue to kick ass on the field.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's been blessing in the locker room, and with this team so far, and I think already bonded really well with a guy like Dion Dawkins, who's a leader on this team, so I think overall getting CJ back in the lineup.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Health wise is a good thing for everyone involved.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: And move it on to the left guard battle of Alec Anderson in Austin Corbett.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: It seemed to be the only two guys getting serious reps there with the ones.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: And no one seems to have separated just yet.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: But is the surprise?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: And we only had to practice once the other day with shells.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then one day with full pads.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see, you don't really want to use guys playing a futon in the pre-season.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: But they're going to have to just, for as far as competition goes.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: Anderson got the the first days wrapped with the lawns and then Corvette came out very so you don't want really pulling away but that's a that's a position to watch and what are the only real position battles on this team to watch right now so we'll keep following that as camp goes long.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and last but not least, we do have Tyler Bass talked about.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Bass, there was a video that came out today of him kind of having a practice kick in some people.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Some people, you know, what a showback, right?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: What a great start.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're just like, you know, professionals over.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Tyler Bass, there's video that of him kicking in some people a little bit worried about how he was landing, kind of looked a little bit off, maybe if you aren't familiar with
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: you know, all the kicking styles and then the kicking ways of the NFL, um, so, you know, Tyler Bass, we have seen him know in past games do that.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: And most notably, if you look at the, um, clip of him kicking the 61-yarder against Miami for the win, he does do the exact same motion.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, it is something that, you know, might look a little weird, might, you know, if you don't, if you haven't seen that before, might say, oh, something's wrong with him.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: But I am in firm belief that I think if the bills knew that what is going on with Tyler Bass is something that's going to hinder them long term.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: I do believe that they would have made the prior arrangements and been on top of that, but at the end of the day we don't know.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it is something to monitor with Tyler Bass, but personally not too worried.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: The kick for the first time today in front of people and went five, seven, the he missed from 47 and 51.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: absolutely so you know I hope that he you know bills need him to to be back and and do his things so we'll we'll love to see that five out of seven's not all that great when you're missing forty six from forty seven that's a that's a distance he kind of want but yeah you know getting back into it and we'll hope for the best for him
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to shout out to another one of our sponsors here, Paula's Donuts.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm being able to thank you for Paul Capolis for joining us.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: We are out there for their 30th year in business celebration a couple of weeks ago and just feel all the love from Paula's and hope to be able to share some of that love with you all on game days.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: They'll be at our tailgate and hope you guys can enjoy some Paula's Donuts before watching some bills.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Big, big dubs out there.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: before we go on to the next one.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: I just saw the two two questions one from John.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do the bills have a real back of quarterback.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think with Josh Allen on the roster, you'll ever have a quarter of real back of quarterback.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think Mitch Tribisky might have been the closest you got to that.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, he's a pretty good one, but I think from now on, they're probably gonna stay cheaper.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: And then, Lance, I don't know if you physically know any difference between Anderson and Corbett from your personal experience at all, but no, I mean, it's really just, Eric Anderson's had the biggest thing difference as Alex Anderson's had the less in-game experience than Corbett, but when it comes down to what they're looking at in their left guard, we'll have to see over the next few padded practices.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, line, it's a little tough to look at when there's not pads on.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: you'll probably repeat that over and over again for the next three shows.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, they are pretty physically similar, Alc Anderson's an inch taller, but, you know, Alc Anderson's game, he's a little bit younger and he plays with a chip on a shoulder and he's going to be a pretty nasty due to play against Austin Corbett.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: more of a veteran guy is played all along.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to bring us an experience that Alic Anderson just simply doesn't have.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: So there's slight differences there, but we're going to be able to model that and see that more with film come the preseason games and we'll be able to kind of show some examples and things like that better once we have that film from the preseason and kind of get through that evaluation.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: indeed.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: And a little bit of ours to present our thoughts about it.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I like it.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Good question, Roy.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a new feel to camp so far, guys?
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's wrap up the quick thought segment with a little feel and vibes here.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: We got some
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: already checking out some physical things.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get into the vibes and the fields of things now.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: So, what do you guys think about the camp vibes, the feel of camp?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they didn't move it a little bit earlier.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: There is a tassie.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't actually that many fights.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: There had been some, and we'll maybe talk about that.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: But what do you feel as far as camp going so far?
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's schedule or just overall how Brady's kind of commanding it and running it.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: definitely feels more energy this year.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think with a guy like Joe Brady that's going to happen, a big thing to then a lot less injuries this year.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: And people kind of complain that practices were earlier, and but shorter, and there was more off days, like the one that's many practice, more than 20 training camp practices, but we'll get how many less injuries is that.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's definitely something to that, you know, these young people in their sports science, maybe they do know a thing or two, but yeah, the energy feels off, it feels like there's a new sense of urgency, at least, you know, hearing the players talk and I think they all know that
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't get it done, and that's why I make the remedy isn't there.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's a new urgency to get it done, but it doesn't necessarily feel like anybody's prepsing.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's August, so you won't know until the season comes, but yeah, I think that feels like a youthful energy, I would say, maybe guys like CJ Gardner Johnson, who absolutely would not have been on this team in the past, are doing the live streams, like you mentioned, which are dumb, but it gets a bit more of an insight to the team, a little
- 17:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't really think he's got anything to distract anybody for anything, and they're meant fight, so there's always fights in training.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're a lot of good training camp fight, they're fun, and then you hug after it, and it's what happened.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I like what I've seen so far from the first week plus of training camp, and I'm excited to see it go down in the season.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a for me, definitely weird camp because I've also since camp started only been in the time zone of camp for two days.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd spend for me, it's been a little bit different, but you think that made them practice differently knowing you were to.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 100%.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: But there's a lot of catching up for me, like a lot of just having to catch up see what's going on.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Not seeing till late at night.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: But from what it feels like when it's at least from the fan perspective and seeing what other fans are saying and how they're reacting to things, it almost feels like there's a different type of optimism than we felt in past years.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like in years past because it's been the same coach in the same kind of trading camps.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of know what to expect from a lot of the same guys.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's been the negative same negatives and people are more focused on the negatives and less focused on the positives the past few years were now this year because it's new coaching because we don't know to expect in some areas there's some new players.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: I do think there's a little bit more
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: optimism in a good way.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I just, from what I've seen, it feels like everybody is, is really just kind of saying hey, let's let's see what we got.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: We get to see some DJ more videos.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: People are excited about that.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: You get K. K. Yo.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Coming in and he's kind of providing a little bit of excitement from the defensive side, Jim Leonard.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: So it just, in that sense, yeah, it feels like the fans are kind of,
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: already adjusted to the change and they're now just ready to see what it looks like on the field.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: were vibing, can't deal with the negativity, were positive folks thrive on the positivity.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'd botched the line there from wedding crashes, but that's what I was trying to go for and didn't hit it, but it was a good effort anyway.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of energy and vibes, stop out to the big tree in, it's wing night at the big tree in every Thursday night, 75 cent wings, and we'll be there every game day for every bills home game over at the big tree in.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll be there alive actually on Saturday at 2 o'clock.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: So 2 o'clock live at the big tree in, get out there and see us, Ben and I with Anthony Romeo special guest joining us there at the big tree.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: So excited for that opportunity.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Gonna be sad to miss our guy Scott here as he continues to recover from a broken ankle, which
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: pre-show got the report looks like it's healing well so glad to see our guys got on the mend.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with what you guys say the vibes and the training camp feels are a little bit different than they have been and Jill Brady's been a breath of fresh air for the team.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think that I spoke about this in the recap the other day that
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: He just shows us he has a different level than we're used to seeing and he is sort of a brilliant mind as a coach.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think he brings a lot of the sports science and the things to the table and really leaned into that even though the public didn't necessarily love.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like Scott mentioned some of the different changes or less opportunities for the to see the team.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: It really, you know, he brings that that science and make sure these doing what's right for the players and keeping people healthy.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: I like players being healthy.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's get to busy with the linebackers there.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Scott, you want to lead us in to our linebacker segment.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, so the linebacking room is going to look a little different this year than it has in years past.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: Jim Leonard brings a new defensive system to town as we talked about last week.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, then beaten like a dead horse for the last six months as we're on the three food boards that are four or three things are going to be different.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to tell you how and who's going to be where so, so traditional defensive and such as your guys like Greg Russo, Michael Hoyt,
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Dana, new guy brought in from Kansas City, Javon Solomon Land of Jackson last year, Andre Jones and now going to be playing outside as an outside linebacker.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: So they're going to be out on the edge outside of the offensive tackle standing up in a two point stance versus being down in a three point stance and be a little bit wider than they're used to.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: And then some other guys will see their TJ Parker is going to play.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: Keep going to be.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: switching back and forth between defensive end and outside linebacker.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, going to be a bit new, a little bit different, and I'm fair to leave some growing things especially for some guys like Greg Russo, who hasn't necessarily played this position before, and a lot of the success and college as a patchwriter actually came from the inside.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: So it'll be like I said interesting to see what we got there, but then we'll start with you.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: What are you expecting to see from guys in this new role in the defense and who are you most excited to see play?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously we have Bradley Chub who came in as well, but this is his bread and butter.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: This is what he's done for his whole career going back to North Carolina State.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: So are you most excited to see out there at this new outside lineback or position on his defense?
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: First, I got to give love to Robby, I'm saying love to hat, shout out by Bill in, got this from Lance for free from, I don't know, inside there, rather, rather Bill.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: So shout that out, I just want to say that, but yeah, to answer your question, Scott, it's tough, because I feel like what I'm looking at this group,
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: Last year I loved TNT.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to see TJ Parker.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: I was super excited for him.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: I loved him as a pick for the build.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that he was kind of a different...
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: different type of guy player that they've gone after in that spot, but now it's a different scheme change.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hoyt, I would they, but again, he's coming off injuries.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: So don't have to high expectations right away for him.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: It honestly for me is, it's got to be Bradley Chub actually.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: I know it's might be like, oh, well, he's, he's a long career veteran.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's older.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: Why you say for like, it's just a Joey Bosa around Miller.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I think a lot of people are kind of envisioning with Bradley Chub.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: But again, I think,
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: people underestimate that his numbers don't pop off the page from what he did last year, but he was also on a horrible defense around him.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was facing a lot of double teams.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: He was the focal point of that D-line, and as you said, he's back into a scheme of what he is used to.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: This is what he thrives in.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: This is the type of defense he thrives in.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to see kind of just how he,
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: how he fits in and I don't expect him to have a monster year of 17th Act or anything like that, but I do expect him to be the type of player that really rounds out that defensive line and was that finishing touch of this is the veteran guy you need to be able to come in and teach the young guys do what it do is job in both the run game and pass rushing.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe get 10 sacks on the air.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: So he's the one that I think, especially back in this deep in this defense, which I'm wondering, I'm really excited to see what he does.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think out of all of them, he's the one I have highest expectations for.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: Just because we don't really know what group really fully can accomplish, maybe in a different scheme as a past Russia, TJ Parker still young, and then we got when a land in Jackson is still young, a lot of young guys under him that are really unproven.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: So that's really what I'm looking at when I'm looking at the outside linebackers.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: almost excited for TJ Parker just because he's new and you know we don't we don't know exactly where he can get to I think that you know the the first pick of this draft coming in hopefully in a high-leverage rotational spot, you know
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: going to learn from Bradley Chub and then hopefully keep Chub fresh by getting some snaps behind him as my thought.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: So TJ Parker is someone that I'm excited to see play in this system and see how they can use him
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: to, you know, get the most from their draft capital this year, and he's going to be a guy that's going to be asked to play right away.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: So, in some role, he's not going to obviously be a starter, but he's going to actually, you know, be asked to play some steps here, and I'm excited to see him play in Jim Leonard's defense.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I expect TJ Parker to be serviceable at worst in his first year's rookie year.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: I would expect him to, you know, come in and not see a high level of drop-off when he spells Chub or Russo.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope that, you know, he can add some young, you know, just,
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: to ask the hopefully learns a little bit of that from Michael Hoyt.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say Michael Hoyt for the segment, but I've been talking about Michael Hoyt every show every chance I get, so I saved him if someone else wants him or if not, but I also think Hoyt's going to be moved around the defensive line a bit too, so not just straight outside the I'm back or for him.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm almost excited to see the rookie TJ Parker.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we talked about it a bit last show with amongst the defense blind, but these outside linebackers are going to move along the defensive line as well, so if Ben mentioned it earlier, the guys are going to be lining up in a lot of different spots, and they're going to do their best to try to create matchups for guys that are favorable, but I am going to talk about Michael Hoyt.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I appreciate you saving him for me.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: All in the case.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: Good.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: Going to be back healthy for the start of the season.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's practicing normally.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think like I have.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't believe he has any restrictions.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm sure it'll take them a little bit to get back to a hundred and a hundred and ten percent.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: But he's going to be out there.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: But this is back to the kind of the system he was in in LA with the rent.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: They're running a three four.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: He played that outside back or spot a lot, and he was able to rush the passenger from there.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: He'll still line up inside and just be a wrecking ball because he does that, but he's also very useful on the outside.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: You've seen videos of him dropping back in the coverage.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see how it's been, like.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are, you know, quasi-defense events in this system, but not all five guys are going to rush every time.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like one of the backers that's got a drop in coverage is going to do, you know, something to try to catch the quarterback off guard.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: And my whole whole week's a guy who's done grabbly chubs a guy who's done that.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: Greg Russo actually is a guy who's done that, you know, they weren't running this system.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: But some of the other guys have months,
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: So Michael Hoyt, I think will be very comfortable in this system from day one, and I think he's going to make an impact like he did in the the one and a half games we got from him last season.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: So really excited to see him there.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just to piggyback in a way that I will just spend one minute just to pump that up a little bit because he does just do pretty much everything He's asked pretty well and the only thing it's going to stop Michael Hoyt in this defense is Michael Hoyt in his body.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: So as long as he's You know a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of a lot of players bodies indeed.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: So you know drug tests and his health are the only two things that can stop Michael Hoyt.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: and we'll kept that out of the military.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Close first.
- 29:49[UNKNOWN]: I know.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: So grab yourself.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: The highest paid guy in this position group was being asked to play a position that he's never played.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: And like I mentioned earlier, back at Miami, he had double digit sacks, but a lot of those came from the insop, he was lining up like nose tack, really, and rushing from there and kind of getting clean up sacks.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, he's a freak of an athlete.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: He looks this spot on paper and getting this guy with the running start with his athleticism seems like it would be a cheat code, but Lance, how do you see group beings successful in this and do you think it will be
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that there's going to be too much of a learning curve, I think he's going to be pretty well ramped up through the offseason program, going into the start of the season.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he starts the season with a full command of his role and everything that he's going to be asked to do.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think his freak athleticism is going to be on display in the defense, I think that I'll be highlighted by Leonard
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I also think that his, maybe his stats may be more reflective of what people want to see in this defense by virtue of him.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to set the edge really well in the run game.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: We know we can do that.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: So when the run comes his side,
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that he's going to have chances with the way they're going to use some blitzes and things like that from the linebackers and just create some confusion.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going to see Gregor So's sack numbers elevate in this defense, you know, some maybe one or two free sacks just from the confusion that they create.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then also, you know, maybe five to six, hopefully eight sacks in addition to that, where he's
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: I, I don't know about group.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's such a weird one.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I, I, I part of me has this mindset of Roy of like, I just don't know how much better or how much more we're going to see, but at the same time he's 26 and he's been in one defense since he's got here.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and not exactly defense that anybody thrived in when it came to getting getting after the quarterback.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: So, for me, it,
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think I lean towards, he's going to have a career year in SACS and, you know, due to a lot where you said, Lance, there'll be so much opportunity for him to, whether it's clean up plays or go inside or go outside, he can move around, you can move everybody else around and,
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I do think that there will be maybe some plays that he might look lost because he's still learning.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that new scheme, at least early on, I think that especially in the past Rush, he could be improved.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that he could hit double digits this year along with the child.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think both of them can feed off of each other.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: But again, it's, it's also, it could be what Roy said, it could be just another, you know, eight sack years, seven and a half sack year that he plays well against the Ron and he's a guy that is helpful on the defense, but maybe not the game-changering past Russia that some people still I think are, yeah, say, and hey, he can, he's still young, he's still got this freak athleticism in the right ski, maybe he does put it together, maybe he will this year, who knows, maybe
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: Even if he does have a career year in sex, I don't expect it to be crazy numbers.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: I expect it to probably be in that 10, 11, 12 range.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: If it is career for him.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think this has a great opportunity for him to get better as a past rusher.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: So he's going to get more favorable matchups, right?
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like I talked about earlier, if you're rushing five guys, there's only five guys to block him.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: So if you're going to get more one-on-one matchups or double teams, I think shove on the other side is going to help him.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think at all over playing the...
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: three, four defenses are great for the position that I'll hit all over play.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's good to get one-on-one match-ups with the guard.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to win that match-up seven, eight, nine times out of ten, and then the running back is going to have to help there.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: So Greg Russo is going to find himself out on an island with an offensive tackle, while he has a running start from
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: wider than you can get to and then up the tackle commits out and you can pop back inside see the lot of enough to do that.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty often he's going to get very favorable match up.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I think if he doesn't get ten sacks in a system like this with the guys I'm going to be lying that they have I don't know if he's ever going to.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's career highs eight.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's done it twice.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: We got a big debate last year about, you know, his sack number is not that bad.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I was on the side of no, it is that bad.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like he should have more than seven eight sacks because you see it in times like the Browns game last year.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: But he's the best player on the field.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's one of the best defensive linemen elite.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: He's unblockable.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: That game two years ago against the car.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_02]: No, he was a three sacks in that game.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then he won't have a sack.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: Then he won't have a sack for a whole blue moon.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's two months.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, I'm not an astrologist, but he'll be the most, he'll be the most dominant player on the field.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_02]: and then he won't show up for two weeks.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, what is it?
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: So, gonna have to be consistent in this defense.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: They'd be more things asked on them.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited to see how he can do because like you said, he is only 26.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's still getting into his pride.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's still matured.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: So, if he doesn't do it in this system, I don't know if he ever will.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: And they're gonna need him too, because they need him to perform.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: They're paying him to be the franchise defensive then outside linebacker, whatever you want to call it.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it's time for him to go do that.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to call him an edge for what it's worth and people can stream it me if they don't call him like that.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Roger.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: Now, because he's going to run better.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's just an edge guy.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's best to get on the edge, setting the edge in the run the game, honestly.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I agree, Scott.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think like you said, they're going to be asking a lot of him.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, I don't see a world where I'm not saying he's going to lead the league in
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: five minutes.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm saying that.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: Why do we keep saying that?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I think he's going to have a career year.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to have his career best in the sex and that he's going to be more dominant in the past rush than he has been.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think Leonard's there, Bradley Chub helps with that and you know, just that the scheme change in and of itself does help as we already stayed at.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: if he ends up with a sex this year we can start doing that and then now lands can get his jersey and love grew the same way he loves gaited it but that's actually a very very kind of good comparison for so far would maybe it's been made before
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: I've never heard of him.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: I might have been really before.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: The only difference is one was first round pick and one was about a fourth round pick.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: Phase round pick.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: And the only difference is one has awesome games and the playoffs.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: And the other one doesn't.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: I grew it.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's a pretty good playoffs this past year, didn't he?
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't even say actually.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think the deal on how to stack me the game.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they needed.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he did.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: I maybe I'm tripping.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: Probably should go up.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, get up.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: All right, you guys got anything else on the outside linebacker?
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: This should be, should be on the side linebackers.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: Before we get in inside, if you haven't done so already, please like and share this episode with your friends.

- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: I was just in there.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: The other day had a great time.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: Always a good time chatting with Dennis getting the feed and Chopping it up in the shop there on Broadway and in the pewette 716 barber shop.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_01]: On with the chlorophyll.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with the borough fill
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: All right, inside Longbacker Spot, only going to be two, sometimes maybe one linebacker, because this defense is still going to play the nickel a lot, so we could see a lot of Perel Bernard out there.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: More to ask about himself in the middle of the field, but we got our guys Perel Bernard back, Dorian Williams there as well.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: He will be starting linebacker, other side of TB today, fan favorite and seeming to be maybe two favorite Caleb, E-Loam,
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: Or there, or there from Interacet and the season out of TCU, Buffalo, Joe is back.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then Kianke Jenkins is a name that seems to be making some noise this season, this preseason in this camp.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: So he's a name to watch and then Jimmy Charlo is still there and then Otis Reece and we talked about earlier.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: But starting with, the guy who's been the captain of the defense for the last two seasons, and that's irrelevant.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: just listed that he's been playing the weekside linebacker spot.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: So far, this training camp, which would be a little different than what he's done in the past, and also means we're paying a lot of money for a weekside linebacker who's contract just kicked in.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: But Ben, TV needs to have a big year.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to stay healthy.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: What are you looking for him this season?
- 39:40[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think he can stay healthy?
- 39:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he is undersized.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when it comes to can they stay healthy, it's so tough with player to player.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it really is because even even when you look at some players and say that they're injury riddled or they can't stay on the field, some players, it's freak injuries every time.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: Some players, it's the same one over and over again.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some pens, it's just the same, you know, body part, just a, same area, just a little bit different, what they tweak or whatever they do it.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: Can he, um, I don't know, Lance, Lance is the body experts all at him handle that one, but I, I just, I can't, I can't say a world where the bills defense is exceeding expectations if he doesn't, um, if he doesn't say healthy, especially with who's behind him right now.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: I know that K, K, K, K, K, O's exciting.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know Dory Millions is a salad player, but I know that they're huge.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: There they are.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that he is when healthy by far the best linebacker on this team.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's a shame that he can't because I think some people
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: especially last year, look at his play and say, wow, he really was bad sometimes, but I mean, you could see it on the field that he was physically just not ready, shouldn't have been out there probably for some of the games because he just looked slow.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: He looked hobbling.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: He looked like he said that even.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like you can see some sometimes or even when he's a dead sprint and it's just just straight beeline that he, it's like his leg would float or ankle every part of his body,
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, hopefully he can, um, unless KEO really surprised everybody in the, you know, it becomes an all-pro or something, um, but, you know, it's going to be seen.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: Can't cancel the yes or no for forever.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he can, obviously, their load management plan is going to be in place with Brady leaning into the sports science department and things like that.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that having KEO now, we'll talk about him in a little bit here in his contribution potential, I think that just helps Bernard even more because he doesn't need to play every drive, either if they're going to play.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: predominantly a nickel look on a certain drive, you know, there may be opportunity for Dora and Williams to be the only guy out there or for KEO to be the only guy out there.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: So Bernard doesn't need to be in there every time now, if he has a green dot, he's going to want to be calling the defense, but they have KEO out there with the green dots sometimes as well potentially.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: will see I mean that yeah I get it's got there may not be there for a day but they will need to load managed trouble or not and they just may have to take them off the field to get at times keep healthy kyo also has had some some talk around his cover durability in camp stay in with guys and
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: and be able to stay in the end.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: But if we're in nickel, we have one line back here.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's a passing situation.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if Dorian Williams is the guy I want to start.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I didn't say that either.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: But there's going to be opportunities, like I said, for those guys to get in and help trouble anard with the load management piece.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: And you could see already, with him feeling a little bit better, he's made some plays in the last couple days and can't camp too.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: And with the pads on, showing his athleticism,
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's Trilbernaard's game, and it's when you play such a physical athletic game like that, you're pushing your body to the limits, so it is tough at the same point to stay healthy because you're sort of on that edge where you're just pushing yourself to the limit so often.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that this line-backing room gives them the option to hopefully do the load management need to keep Trilbernaard healthy throughout the season.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he, like, he meant that he came out and said that there were games not sure you probably shouldn't have played in.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_02]: If you remember back in the second year, didn't play in the playoffs after he explained his ankle and they pretty much had to tell him you're not playing.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like he was going to do everything he could and that's awesome.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, that also get re-injured, you take you longer to come back and then we didn't have them.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: down the structure and the plate also because he tried to come back for some games maybe he shouldn't have.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: So it seems like he's going about it smarter than he has in the past and he's he's a guy when he's out there the defense is better.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: There's no question he's one of those guys that seems always be in the right spot.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's clearly Shay but he really does have a nose for the football.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like when there's fumbles he's always right in there recovering on our course in those.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: going to make a couple big interceptions just because he sees the field kind of before it happens based on just how smart he is.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: So it's huge to have him out there and I don't think there's any coincidence that the team was huge turnover margin two years ago last year he plays a lot less and the turnover margin went way down.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's just what he does when he's out there.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: He may you know
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: You may lose in blocks so when you get to put against offensive linemen like that's just he's an underside of lineback or but you make splash plays and he's in the right spot.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: So as you mentioned both of the they're going to need him there need all these guys so moving along to a guy we've mentioned a few times and seems to be taking camp by storm and
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: Black sky on the field every day and even starting some fights, I think now shows quite a bit of confidence from a rookie Caleb e-Lum's Allure the draft kick out of TCU lands.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that he has a chance just to start?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that one seems like he's going to be in the rotation could it be him and TV out there week one.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think he was kind of handpicked to be the starter in this defense, but you know, whether he's the Mike and Bernard kicks out to will or if he's going to be, you know, alongside Bernard with Bernard being the Mike there.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that remains to be seen both are getting work there.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: They are.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kayo got a little more work early on because they were bringing back both Bernard and William's sort of slowly with with load management like we talked about.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: So that may be something where people are excited and jumping to that conclusion, but really his opportunities very early were more to do with load management.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: But he does take, you know, his game, he's very confident
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: how we can play a role on this team and what he can bring to the defense.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: So that's something that's very exciting from Caleb E-Larms or he did make a splash early.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's made some great plays out there, but I think what is best for him is that he just knows who he is.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: and he doesn't waver, and you saw that with him hitting cancade there, you know, maybe not the smartest decision he might want that back in the end, but he's here to set a tone.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: He knows how he plays his game, and he's not going to waver.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I think Leonard kind of hit it on the head he's like he'd rather pull some guys back and have a teaching month or then have to push him to do more.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, he was a guy that, for some people, I mean, I know Chris Tupraso had a drink coming out of the draft as a 23rd best prospect of an entire draft, like some people were very high on him.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, did go a little weight later than 23rd.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: but I mean he's a guy that I don't necessarily know if this year he'll be a full-time starter or really take that spot over.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_00]: I do think he will be a guy that is in this spot.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to go in this spot.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: I do think he'll be on the field very good amount.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, he's a exciting player, man.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's got the right mentality, like you've mentioned, Lance, he's the last one in the field, and he's essayin, hey, before I go do this interview, I need to go do my work on the field while everybody's off, like, wants to be the best.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he wants to be the best.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: He has the mentality to do it, and it's all now just about putting it together on the field, learning this defense, and,
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: the coaches to put them in position to succeed.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think if he's playing well, he'll be on the field.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this will be something where, hey, he's he's really got to earn it as a rookie.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: If he's playing well, he'll be out there.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: Now, with Dorian Williams, he's also playing well and to help an artist can do what we think he can do when he's healthy.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: Then, yeah, it's going to be, hey, well, what do you do?
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: You got three guys that are playing really well.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good issue to have, but I think it will just for...
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, then you just call Sean McDermott and open and say, come on now, it's going to be, it's going to be something that I can't go out this season could be game to game there could be a game that he plays 70% of the snaps are could be a game place 30% of the snaps I think I think until he proves.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: long-term, which, again, long-term is as relative this year, at least it's long-term.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's week 11, 12, he's crushing it for 10 weeks, then yet can be tough to not play him.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, we'll see.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: That is a tackling machine last year, 130 tackles at TCU.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Another guy we've mentioned in the last year of his rookie deal, contract year for friend of the show, Dorian Williams.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: They moved around how they used them last year.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, in his second year with Moana was heard and a bit as rookie or he started that traditional weekside linebacker condition.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: In the last year, they figured out that you're really big and really strong and pretty fast.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: work really well and just absolutely blind side the tackles once in a while.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like they almost they used it as like a running a running pit.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: Mitterend pit and rolls and he got a running start.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: So as of right now, he's the starting strong sidebugs.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: Mike linebacker in the strong sidelinebacker in the in the in the three four left silence.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: think he can be that consistent starter and will he be?
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: Or will he play more in that blitzer role he found success and where do you see his best fit in this defense?
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: I see him as more of a role player than a consistent starter.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a lot of room to move these pieces in and out based upon situations.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's going to be fun to see how situational football unfolds under this new coaching staff.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: A situational football was something we talked a lot about under the McDermott.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: coaching staff and we thought maybe there was some times some room for improvements excuse me in those situations.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the the way that this three guys specifically can sort of rotate and be used in situations.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's going to be the best spot.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going to want e-larms or in there in specific situations where maybe if you're
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: and you want those two out there to be in coverage a little bit more, if that's the plan, then Elarm's work gives you that better leverage there.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're looking for the blitzing role, if you're looking to run some things where William doesn't have to go out and coverage as much, then you may be looking to have him in.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: So he's best suited as not unengrained every down starter.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's best suited to be sort of
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he can be the quote unquote starter, but I think there's going to be that role in that situational usage that comes into play between him and KEO, specifically for sure.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I agree with Lance.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think he'll be a role player.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of reminds me a little bit of Tyrell Dotson in a way and in the term of, I mean, it's very similar this year contract gear.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be a guy that's going to be looking to get paid.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could be a guy that
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, isn't anything, you know, all pro or doesn't become this unbelievable impact when has a good year does his job plays the run decently and is the human wrecking ball at some points and that's what he's going to use for and could end up being kind of like how Dodson gets then a better opportunity somewhere else and for a bigger role first to to maybe prove himself but he kind of is that type of player to me of
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, he's a guy you want on your football team.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: You'd love to have money for football team.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: But it's just how good and how how important is he?
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: As an every down player, I don't know if he'll ever be in every down player full time starter for this for any defense, let it all on the bills defense, so yeah, I think he'll be a role player this year.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think you'll see him put in specific spots to succeed in certain, you know, whether it's a blitz or certain packages that they say, hey, this is your job, this can be your specialty.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I could see it being a lot like Tyrell dad's in his time in Buffalo.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he had dormant and had more playing time, I think early on and overall then Tyrell doesn't, but especially towards the end here of, hey, you're going to be in that role, unless there's injuries, this is going to be a role you're going to go out and then do the best your ability.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: William is kind of in body's buffalo, right?
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's sort of that hard worker blue collar guy that's going to go do whatever's asked to him.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: People forgot to tell dogs and it was like the number two ranked PFF line back here that one area started here, so I mean, so a lot of people still say that I mean, he's a quality linebacker still on this league title that's and kind of is the player, I think he's still in this league.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure he's starting for the dollar.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he is so on a dolphin.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_02]: He was only on the Dolphins for he didn't even make it one full season with the seahawks.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: He saw in that video, and then he became a starter in Miami and he's still what he was above home.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: And in a guy that will get you a lot of tackles, but coverage wise, you don't really want him out there and he's not in a lead run stop or a lead, you know, at any one thing, when he's a linebacker that if he's in your room, he can he can help you out in certain situations.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, interesting, you know, interesting comment here.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: KEO is built differently and may end up being a top three being pick from all time.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's a heck of a statement.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously Josh Allen's going to be one for the rest of being late.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was going to say people like the tray white neon moano draft wasn't being so Josh James Cook.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also build differently, incorrectly, I think, but still different one.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: Speck it, speaking of build, different.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: We do have some build different hoodies out at the tailgate once in a while.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: So if you guys are into some good merch, some good hoodies and warm weather or warm clothing, excuse me.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: Come check, keep an eye on that and check out build different brand on Facebook.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: Our guy, Gigi, does a great job with his stuff over there.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like they'll probably keep four interior line backers, maybe three probably not five.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_02]: So we talked about the three guys who are locks to make this roster.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: What do we think the fourth one is going to be?
- 55:45[SPEAKER_02]: I thought to me triusquantic and bowls had an inside track at that.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_02]: But why not end the reserve today?
- 55:51[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't seen these details as well.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_02]: along with me, but I've been assume we've seen the last of him, Joe and Jason Buffalo Joe been on the team for the last two years, but doesn't seem like he's getting a whole lot of love with the long-sand twos.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: He ought to take Jake and this has been taking a lot of snaps with them.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_02]: But God, he's been around been in the building for a little bit, maybe he grabs it.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_02]: Jimmy Charlow, another guy who's there was on the roster for a bit bounced around practice squad active roster
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: If I had to pick right now, I'd say based on what I've seen, Calthay Jenkins would be my pick to be the fourth.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: Ben, who do you think it is?
- 56:31[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think it's Buffalo Joe, his story continued, but definitely seem like they're using him a ton.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and unfortunately, I think Buffalo Joe will be practice squad.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think in some form, we'll try to keep them around.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think it will be on the 53.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_00]: Jimmy Charlo, I mean, it could honestly, here's what I'll say about those two.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_00]: Charlo and Buffalo Joe, I think for them, it could be one of those two makes practice squad.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: for whether it's injuries, they can get called up, they can play special teams.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: So one of those two, I think, are practice squad.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe certain games is an elevation.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what I'll say about those two.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then I do think it's between Jenkins and Rhys.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_00]: I know Rhys just signed.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: But again, he has experience playing.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of been bounced around as you mentioned Scott.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he is obviously the probably farthest out right now because he's the newest.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, sometimes these late signings do end up making a push.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they obviously want to get a guy in there.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have it set.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_00]: They're not bringing in Bobby Wagner.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: They're not bringing in, you know, and all the guy that comes.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_02]: Shack Thompson.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I mean, they haven't looked at them.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're looking for some youth and some guys that can maybe run a little bit more than those two
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I think Reese has a chance.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_00]: I honestly, if I had to say, I think right now for the 53 alone, I would think he's number two probably behind Jenkins for me as best odds just because I think he's had a little bit more playing time in terms of real live defense, not necessarily just just on special teams.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that fourth spot's got to go to whoever can play the best special teams out there because you're going to have one of Andrews and Jenkins, Jarlow and Gaines or res potentially as a guy that's going to be on special teams.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I definitely think that
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give a check on to Jenkins like Scott mentioned, but if Charlo can do special teams well enough to warrant a spot and they're not going to take five, then there's a spot there for him to take with the special teams prowess.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, you know, I don't...
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a strong account of Jenkins is one everyone's talking about right now.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess it's kind of what to go away from him, but, you know, if someone else picks it up during the preseason with the special teams, that's going to be who gets the spot in my mind.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_02]: That was your on-backers folks tune in next week for safety's defense of back.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: So we're doing just safety's thought, I don't know.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we got a few weeks ago, we got a couple of, we got a couple of, hey, and after that we'll go corners and we'll go kickers and we'll go corners, and then kickers and we'll go corners and then kickers and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll go corners and we'll
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: the holder long snapper show.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really excited for that.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if we can get read Ferguson himself on here.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that'd be great.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to grab a shot on my cousin Patrick.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a kicker and everything and long and holder in high school.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_00]: There is an art to it.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_00]: There is an art.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_02]: And he held.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_02]: He held the bugs.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: Bodyless.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_00]: One year I think he held next year that you can help us out.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_00]: All I know is that there is a there is an art to it.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_00]: to punting obviously there's not to kick it with bar to all of special teams, there's an art to every single piece of it, and I've never met somebody that knows more about the techniques than him.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of art, Wingnuts has great wings that are an art enab, in and of themselves.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: So book your party at room 40 and check out Wingnuts Buffalo over on Genesis Street by the airport.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_01]: They're appreciate Wingnuts John and Quan giving us the space to do some player interviews last year.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_01]: I hope to continue that partnership with them this year as well.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_01]: So shout out to Wingnuts Buffalo.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_01]: over there, and that just about does it for us.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: We successfully spaced out all of our sponsors throughout the show and did not just read off a list all at one time, so Kudos to me for that, I may say so myself.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll see you guys back next week, but first, we will see on Saturday a live show from the big tree in, if you're over at the blue and red scrimmage, stop on over the big tree and get yourself some wings, some earth sauce, my favorite, and see us live at two o'clock.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_01]: PM and then we're going to head in the stadium and check out the new Highmark for the first time.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_01]: So excited to see that and we'll talk more about that next week.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you all for tuning in.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: If you've listened to this on audio, we appreciate it.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead and share that with all of your family and friends.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on social media right now, watch and live.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_01]: Please like and share this episode as well.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: And we hope to see you all next week.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_01]: Doe Bills.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_01]: Doe Bills.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_01]: Doe Bills.
