- 4:30As beloved sons, Aloha, good afternoon.
- 4:32Welcome to Men Helping Men on this Wednesday afternoon,
- 4:36September 2nd. Thank you for joining us today.
- 4:39Today we're joined by again Brandon Ortiz, our executive
- 4:42producer and pastor, Doug Chong Christ Built Ministries, the
- 4:46founder of Men Helping Men and also the lyric writer and the
- 4:52theology writer of the songs and the music that we he lifting to
- 4:55here and the Men Helping Men show.
- 4:57You know, that song was written, of course, about a tragic event
- 5:00that took place here on a beautiful island of Maui, the
- 5:03behind a fire and then of course, the floods and the
- 5:05challenge that came along with that.
- 5:07And you know, how do we stand, Doug, in moments of challenge
- 5:11like that if we don't have a foundation and a relationship
- 5:14with God? And that's it was a very trying
- 5:16time for a community here, of course.
- 5:17But you know, Doug, you wrote that song because it's of
- 5:20course, you're born and raised on the island here.
- 5:22It means a lot to you with this Ohana family here.
- 5:24But let's talk today, Doug, about the song correlation to
- 5:28having faith, trusting in God in those storms, in those moments
- 5:32of life when tragedy like that hits, what do we lean on?
- 5:36Where do we go to? How do we, how do we, how do we
- 5:38count that? And not that it's a joy that the
- 5:40fire happened, of course, but how do we, in those moments of
- 5:43deep trial, counted all joy, Doug?
- 5:46Yeah, Kevin, that's that's where you find out if your
- 5:49relationship with God is genuine or not.
- 5:53Just like a fighter, he finds out if all the hard work, the
- 5:58blood, sweat, tears in the gym paid off when he jumps in the
- 6:02ring for the main event. You know like Tyson when he he
- 6:06took it easy, was partying on what happened.
- 6:08Buster luggets knocked them out. So that that was a reflection of
- 6:12what he did before that fight. Storms come in life.
- 6:17Storms represent problems, trials, we all have them.
- 6:21How are we going to react or act towards them or in the storm?
- 6:25Just like our special forces in the military, Green Berets, Navy
- 6:29Seal's, they train 10 times harder than everyone else
- 6:34because they're the ones usually are sent into the storms.
- 6:38They don't run from the storms, they run into the storm.
- 6:42So Christians, because you learn how to lean on God, Jesus says
- 6:46come to me all you know, we're in burden and I will give you
- 6:49rest. My yoke is light.
- 6:52Basically Matthew 1128 and 29. When we learn how to depend on
- 6:58God through His word with the power of His Holy Spirit in the
- 7:02storms, we actually become stronger.
- 7:05Paul says in Second Corinthians 12/10 for when I am weak, then
- 7:09I'm strong. We see God the clearest When
- 7:13When do you need somebody in the gym the most get is the extra 2
- 7:17reps that you're trying to do that you can't do on your own.
- 7:20You need help in the storms of life is when we realize we need
- 7:27help and God is the one that we're supposed to depend on.
- 7:31We're supposed to be raised that way.
- 7:33Just like in the the Hawaiian culture, the Hawaii was living
- 7:37on a parcel of land, birth to death.
- 7:40You don't you didn't have cars. They walk, so they spent time
- 7:45talking. No cell phones, Androids,
- 7:48iPhones, they actually converse with each other.
- 7:51Kupunas, the elders had a big part in raising the children.
- 7:55So wisdom was passed on from generation to generation.
- 7:58We lost that connection. The ultimate relationship is
- 8:02with God. What is His 2 greatest commands?
- 8:04Loving Him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength.
- 8:07Loving our neighbors. We love ourselves.
- 8:09It's not following a set of structured cold rules.
- 8:16Rules minus relationship equals rebellion in the storms.
- 8:22Rules plus an intimate relationship with God equals
- 8:26obedience because you know it's back with love.
- 8:30Doug, you know we talk about rules.
- 8:32Doug, you know, help, help us understand the difference
- 8:35between rules in that sense whereby now we have works.
- 8:40What is what? What is what is the works aspect
- 8:42because we hear works. You show me your faith, I'll
- 8:44show you my works. Baba, what is the what is the
- 8:47definition then, Doug, of our works in the midst of building
- 8:51our relationship with God? What's that look like?
- 8:54Well, it's just like it's, it's, that's not the proper term
- 8:58because it's about a relationship with God.
- 9:00So it's so it's like me saying I earned the love that I got from
- 9:04my wife. You don't earn love.
- 9:07It's given to you. And it depends on the person
- 9:10who's loving you, depending on when they want to give it to you
- 9:13or not. So love of the love of God
- 9:17cannot be earned. It's not we do 50 things and
- 9:22then he's going to love you. You see it's he looks at the
- 9:25heart like I was telling you folks this morning, it's even if
- 9:31out of 100, let's say the number is 100, I try 6060 I get a 60.
- 9:39If that's the best I could do at the time, that's an E and
- 9:43everybody else, it's AD, not an F in the world's eyes, but in
- 9:48God, he looks at the heart. You're trying your best.
- 9:52I'm here with you. That's grace.
- 9:54See in the world's eyes, if you don't get an E, especially for
- 9:58sports, if you're not good enough, you're cut, you're gone.
- 10:01There's no grace there. It's all about the money with
- 10:04the creator of heaven and earth. He just wants you to show up,
- 10:07sacrifice the time. Come, come to me.
- 10:11So it's it's when the certain translations of the Bible use
- 10:16the word free gift. That's a, that's a contradicting
- 10:21statement because free is we do nothing.
- 10:24Now Jesus says if you want to gain life, you must lose your
- 10:28life. It's a sacrifice.
- 10:31If you have to sacrifice everything to get a billion
- 10:35dollars, you got to move, let's say to a deserted island.
- 10:39And he said, oh, it's free. It's not free If you got to make
- 10:42a sacrifice, it costs something, but not in the monetary value of
- 10:47a car or a house. How you would pay with the
- 10:50millions or billions. It costs you your free will.
- 10:54Jesus takes our place on the cross.
- 10:57Testament means covenant. Covenant is agreement.
- 11:00It's the old agreement, the new agreement.
- 11:02For instance, when God said I'll bring you out of Egypt, I'll set
- 11:06you free, take you to the land, Floyd with milk and honey.
- 11:09The promised Land. Now out of a million people he
- 11:13set free, Two people went into the promised land.
- 11:16Why? Because they were complaining in
- 11:19the desert. They were grumbling.
- 11:21You should have left me in Egypt.
- 11:23I don't have food. It's hot out here.
- 11:25So disqualified. Why?
- 11:28Because it's an agreement. I'll set you free from Egypt if
- 11:33you follow me. You do what I tell you to do.
- 11:36I'll get you into the promised land.
- 11:38I'll bless you just like the first King.
- 11:41You read my commands, you follow what I tell you.
- 11:44God says you don't become prideful, you show love.
- 11:49I'll bless your generation and generations to come.
- 11:53That's an agreement, that's an understanding.
- 11:55Jesus takes my place on the cross.
- 11:57He dies for me. I die to self daily and I live
- 12:01for Him with all my heart. What is the main thing He wants
- 12:06me to do? What was restored from creation?
- 12:11Relationship, Doug. Yeah.
- 12:13And to build a relationship that takes a time investment and a
- 12:17sacrifice of our own free will, as it were.
- 12:20Again, Jesus dying on the cross for us, that's a life for life.
- 12:24So, you know, if we are expecting to build a
- 12:27relationship with him based on that, then we have to lay our
- 12:30own life down. And it's a very difficult
- 12:34because of the same nature that rules in US and the separation
- 12:36that came from Adam and Eve. And that's when it that rises
- 12:39its head up within us to want to do it our own way, have our own
- 12:44have our own have our own quote relationship with God, which I
- 12:47hear a lot of, you know, people say I have well, I have my own
- 12:49relationship with God. You know, Romans 10/1 through 4.
- 12:52You know, Paul said it's my pray for prayer for Israel to be
- 12:55saved. Why, Doug would Paul say, was
- 12:58his prayer for Israel to be saved when they were God's
- 13:01chosen people? Doug.
- 13:02Because like all the other cultures kept, they create their
- 13:05own way to. Worship.
- 13:06Tea leaf on the back of the car, you know, Indians from not from
- 13:11India, Indies, Cowboys and Indians.
- 13:12They have all different types of beliefs, you know, so they make
- 13:17up their own way of worshiping their gods, who they worship in
- 13:22their heads. There's only one God.
- 13:25It's the creator of heaven and earth.
- 13:28So it's like going to work and you're making $200,000 a year
- 13:32and you tell the company you're working for, yeah, I want to do
- 13:34it my way. They're going like crazy.
- 13:37Right. You do it my way or it's the
- 13:39highway, right? Start your own business.
- 13:41Yeah. See, we're we're just think,
- 13:43what does heaven represent? You're living with God now.
- 13:46Who's father out there? No local guys whose father's out
- 13:51there. We can live with them and we can
- 13:52tell them what to do. We live in their house and we
- 13:55say this is the rules now I'm going to do this.
- 13:57I'm going to do that. Well, not my dad.
- 14:00It's 100% his way. Get lost.
- 14:03He'll kick you out. Or Lickins, right?
- 14:06Absolutely. Yeah.
- 14:07And Doug, Yeah. You know, it's really
- 14:09interesting you're reading in judges this morning.
- 14:11I kept asking. I said question this morning.
- 14:13I said, we're reading in judges. Why was there judge after judge
- 14:15after judge? Because of course their
- 14:17idolatry, because they're false, because of worshipping false
- 14:21gods. God should, God says out, shall
- 14:23we know the God before me? And so it was interesting to
- 14:25watch that pattern and again, reflecting on seeing those
- 14:28things that separate us from our true relationship and just very
- 14:34enlightening to me and very, very truth to me this morning
- 14:36when I saw that, when you explained that to me, of course,
- 14:39the judges were there for a reason to keep God's people in
- 14:43line, as it were. Again, talking about commands
- 14:46relationship. Now talk about love, Doug.
- 14:49What it what? How can we actually love God
- 14:52when you know, of course we can't see him, right?
- 14:54What? What's that explain that, Doug?
- 14:57Yeah, and you know what? What I had a problem with Kev,
- 15:01It's, it's going to church after church.
- 15:03And and I get why it's confusing.
- 15:07It's am I following God's ways because I trust in God, or am I
- 15:12following God's ways because I don't want to go to hell?
- 15:16I used to follow my dad's ways, his rules, because I didn't want
- 15:21to get lickets. It's not because I loved him and
- 15:24he loved me. It was it was from a threat.
- 15:29So how do I know I'm not following God because I so I
- 15:33don't go to hell? Because that's not faith.
- 15:37That's not trust. And I was confused.
- 15:41I thought I was, you know, but every time I come into a
- 15:45challenges in life, I cannot do what God tells me to do.
- 15:50I cannot let it go. I cannot forgive.
- 15:53I cannot stop my mind from replaying the negative action
- 15:58that happened or event that happened.
- 16:01And I always want to take revenge.
- 16:03It always steals my joy and it tortures me and it overflows to
- 16:09the people around me. Until he healed that hurt in my
- 16:13heart. And he taught me another way.
- 16:15He taught me how. See, when we read his word, Kev,
- 16:18all the things that he's saying is what we should be able to do.
- 16:23If our arteries weren't clogged, we didn't have hurtful times in
- 16:27our lives where we have to harden our heart.
- 16:30Harden our heart is I don't care.
- 16:32You get hard and you don't care. You're like a John Wayne.
- 16:35I know John Wayne is older. So if you're not that old, you
- 16:38won't know who John Wayne is. But you know, I watched this
- 16:41documentary on HBO the other day about mass murderers.
- 16:47And, you know, all of them, all of them were abused when they
- 16:50were children. They were abused when they were
- 16:53children. So that voice in their head,
- 16:56which is Satan, is tempting them and prompting them, pushing them
- 17:02to defend themselves. So in their head, in their
- 17:06world, they're back. They're getting abused.
- 17:09I get it. I was picked on when I was
- 17:12younger. I told myself when I get big one
- 17:16day, I watch all those Kung Fu movie, those Chinese, they look
- 17:22for revenge. And now you're 6 foot four and
- 17:25full of muscle, Doug. Yeah.
- 17:29You know, and building that relationship with God and having
- 17:33him heal our hearts so we can actually understand God's love
- 17:37for us. You know, it seems so abstract
- 17:40sometimes when you're when you're in that journey of your
- 17:43heart being healed and God doing those that deep heart work in
- 17:47you. And you always say this is about
- 17:48heart work. This is about what God's doing.
- 17:51And that's how we know when we when we start having those parts
- 17:55of our heart. I remember the struggles that I
- 17:57faced when I first started sitting in, you know, Christ
- 18:00built ministries because again, you know, we're Christ built.
- 18:03We're not, we're not church built.
- 18:04We're not we're not doctrine built.
- 18:07We're Christ, but we're based more and we're based on the
- 18:09truth of the word of God. And it does you always refer
- 18:13it's Navy. So training.
- 18:14So, you know, this is training that reveals the the true, true
- 18:19depth of the hurts that we have in our hearts.
- 18:22But the great thing, Doug, is that we actually have an answer
- 18:25of how to heal those deep wounds.
- 18:28So then we can now build that and relationship and understand
- 18:33God's infinite love from us. I mean, I remember sitting the
- 18:36other day talking with you, Doug, and kind of getting an
- 18:38idea that the God of all heaven and earth, the creator of all
- 18:41heaven wants to spend time with me.
- 18:44This this guy here. And yeah, he does.
- 18:47And we can only understand that when we begin to understand his
- 18:51nature, his character, when he loves what he hates.
- 18:54And that's comes through spending our daily relationship
- 18:57with Him, reading His Word, accurately interpreting it,
- 19:00knowing what the Bible says about Him, his nature, and how
- 19:04we build that relationship together.
- 19:06Yeah, exactly, Kevin. It's it's when people like
- 19:10growing up, I used to when you see people that I know here are
- 19:14locals, they they become like the people they hang around.
- 19:19You hang around with somebody who swears like a drunken
- 19:21sailor. Guess what?
- 19:23You can start picking up those words.
- 19:25There's this Filipino guy back in the days name was Mike.
- 19:29He looks like a local Filipino here, right?
- 19:31But then he talks like a, a black guy, like a rapper finding
- 19:36out he was living in LA so he was around, he grew up there.
- 19:41But he, he fits right in looks wise until he opens his mouth
- 19:45and then he, he speaks differently.
- 19:46Why? Because that's what he heard
- 19:48growing up. The other Filipinos here, they
- 19:50don't, they don't speak that way because again, it's who you're
- 19:54around and what you listen to and who you listen to.
- 19:57Point when we are with God all the time listening to Him, He is
- 20:03the standard of love and forgiveness.
- 20:06Guess what's going to happen to us?
- 20:09We're going to become more loving and forgiving.
- 20:11Now, it's not just by reading, it's not just by hearing His
- 20:15word. It's the Holy Spirit, His
- 20:18Spirit. God the Holy Spirit is going to
- 20:20take His Word and start to transform our hearts.
- 20:25That's beyond understanding. Meaning 2 + 2 = 4, it equals
- 20:29954. We don't understand how it
- 20:32happens mathematically or scientifically.
- 20:36See a miracle is something Jesus was raised on the third day from
- 20:41being pronounced dead on the cross.
- 20:43Science cannot explain that. Lazarus 4 days he came back to
- 20:47life. If science cannot explain it,
- 20:49they deem it as a miracle. How do we know if we're going
- 20:53through spiritual warfare? Because 2 + 2 = 52.
- 20:59It doesn't make sense. Logical sense.
- 21:01I'm talking about this doesn't make any logical sense.
- 21:05How is this happening? And time and time again, when I
- 21:09look back at my life, like Joseph was put in jail by his
- 21:12brothers, he never did anything wrong and he's being punished
- 21:16and he doesn't get it until the end when he's the second in
- 21:20command in Egypt. When his brothers came and they
- 21:22apologized, Don't, don't punish us.
- 21:24He said, no, it wasn't you that put me in prison, it was God.
- 21:28I get it now. So in my life, the trials I go
- 21:33through is like going to the gym and putting stress on your
- 21:37muscles so they get stronger. God says you know what to do,
- 21:41Look up, follow what I told you. You can do this, you see.
- 21:45And that's why he says, consider it pure joy when you face
- 21:49trials. I got you.
- 21:50I'm your personal trainer. Whispered says it's almost
- 21:54counterculture issue might say in the church today, whereby,
- 21:58you know, we, we try to mitigate all of our problems.
- 22:01We try not to have problems, but the problems are there in our
- 22:03life. We have a song about that.
- 22:05I think the problems are there in our life to build our faith
- 22:10muscle, to build our hope muscle, to build our love
- 22:12muscle. So as we spend time doing that,
- 22:16we get stronger. And again, you know, God's ways
- 22:19are not our ways as ways are how far above.
- 22:21So, yeah, to reflect on that, it doesn't make sense.
- 22:25But God is not like us. He has ways that he works.
- 22:29And Matt, I don't want to use that more than that note.
- 22:33Amazing truth ways. Yes, and this is the point.
- 22:36This is what's opposite of our fathers, our human fathers.
- 22:41God the Father wants to spend every minute with us.
- 22:45He wants to go through the good times and the bad times with us.
- 22:49It's not your 18. Get lost.
- 22:53Don't make your problem my problem.
- 22:55No, God says come to me, I'll help you through it.
- 22:59I created you to spend time with you from now, Kevin, Brandon,
- 23:06until eternity, every single day.
- 23:09See, that's not our culture. That's not what happens in our
- 23:13family. We try to be independent.
- 23:15You want to be a big boy, You want to be a man, Now be
- 23:18independent. Stop depending on me.
- 23:20God is depend on me. Now obey my commands.
- 23:24Build your relationship with me. Now you'll see how to obey my
- 23:29commands. It's not commands.
- 23:31It's to help you. It's so you don't hurt, get hurt
- 23:35and you don't hurt others. So commands are not commands.
- 23:40They're what can I do for you, Father?
- 23:42You know how much he loves you and how much he did for you.
- 23:45Then you get it, man. I get it.
- 23:47What can I do? Come on.
- 23:49Exactly. And if our own fathers love
- 23:51that, wouldn't we want to do the same thing for them?
- 23:53But yeah, what a great topic of here.
- 23:56Again, going back to the Maui fire, having those hurts, how we
- 24:00heal them, spending time with God, developing that
- 24:02relationship, knowing how to love him when we see that nature
- 24:06of God and how he wants to spend those every minute of the day
- 24:10with us. Just like we are so grateful to
- 24:13spend our time here. And this Wednesday afternoon
- 24:15with you listeners out there on the Men Helping Men radio show
- 24:18here every Wednesday afternoon. We're so grateful you guys have
- 24:21joined us again today. Go ahead and listen to the song
- 24:23as we come back in. Aloha, thank you for joining us

- 33:30daily relationship Welcome back to Mount Helping
- 34:07Men. Thank you for joining us this
- 34:09Wednesday afternoon here, September 2nd.
- 34:12Doug, the song we just listened to about is about our daily
- 34:15spiritual routine. And by the way, we got some
- 34:19exciting news. I'm going to be on the air here
- 34:20now three days a week, but also we've got a new podcast on our
- 34:23YouTube channel, Men Helping Men, where Pastor Doug is
- 34:27actually going to be going through the Bible.
- 34:29Basics of the spiritual routine, how to how to start our day, how
- 34:33to, how to do our here, how to do our clothes, all those great
- 34:38things you heard in that song. So we'll have encourage you to
- 34:41tune into our YouTube channel here on Men Helping Men YouTube.
- 34:45But also we got Spotify, we got iHeartRadio.
- 34:48We got a whole bunch of new platforms.
- 34:50We're putting our message out here over the air to get the
- 34:54word of God out so we can help you, the listener out there,
- 34:58build a daily spiritual routine and a daily relationship with
- 35:03your Father so you can grow in love.
- 35:05Right, Doug? Yeah.
- 35:05And then grow it. And that's how we're talking
- 35:08about relationship and to getting to know God.
- 35:11You got to spend time with him. This is a very simple structured
- 35:15way to do to do that every day. That's what I love about Christ
- 35:19Built ministries. Yeah, and, and speaking about
- 35:21like we were talking about let's say the old Hawaiians, the older
- 35:24days in the Hawaiian culture, the Kupunas, the the elders,
- 35:28let's say this, this one grandpa uncle lived 250 years old and
- 35:35this is the diet he ate every day in the exercise exercises
- 35:39that he did. Now, if that was implemented
- 35:43today, you would live 150 years, let's say, healthy, no disease,
- 35:47no sicknesses. Everybody would follow that
- 35:50plan. They would follow their routine.
- 35:51Now maybe they wouldn't get 100% every single day, but there's
- 35:57something to strive for and there's a standard, a healthy
- 36:00standard to gauge your eating against.
- 36:05You get it? There's a right way now that's
- 36:07like the spiritual routine that's to keep our relationship
- 36:11with God healthy because we don't go on how I feel because I
- 36:16can eat that Costco hot dog and feel good after that and it's
- 36:21not. Good for you, ice cream dog on
- 36:23the backside of that, right? Or those musu, those spam musu
- 36:26bees. They have them at Costco now
- 36:28frozen. You can heat them up in the
- 36:29microwave. And Doug, that's Speaking of
- 36:33diet. You know, one of the first
- 36:34scriptures that I remember memorizing about God's Word was
- 36:37Matthew 4. Four man shall not live on pride
- 36:41alone, but every word that proceeds from the mouth of God,
- 36:45the Word of God is our sustenance.
- 36:47And that's what the spiritual routine does for us on a daily
- 36:50basis. Yes, and it does it.
- 36:52It helps you do it properly, interpreting God's Word, not
- 36:56against how I feel or this is what I believe it means.
- 37:00Kev, if you wrote a heartfelt letter to your daughter or your
- 37:05son and Brandon grabs it and says, OK, I read it to them, but
- 37:09I told him what I think it means.
- 37:11You'd be like, really? Why didn't you tell him what I
- 37:14said? Oh, because I don't think I
- 37:17don't want to you My my job is to interpret it according to how
- 37:21God wrote it and who he wrote it to, not what it means to me.
- 37:25That's the wrong teaching. And remember, a lot of us get
- 37:29the wrong teaching in churches because Satan is our.
- 37:32I always tell you folks, Satan is probably around like a
- 37:35roaring lion. He's trying to confuse us.
- 37:39I don't trust myself. Come on, Doug, what?
- 37:41I think I've been wrong many times thinking no, no guarantee
- 37:45this is right and it's not right.
- 37:48And I even tell you in Brandon, Acts 1711, check what I even say
- 37:54against God's word. The Bereans were of more noble
- 37:59character than the Thessalonians.
- 38:00The Holy Spirit says who? Check the Scriptures against
- 38:03what Paul is preaching. So when you interpret that
- 38:06correctly, he's an apostle. He wrote 2/3 of the New
- 38:10Testament. The epistles, check them.
- 38:13Doesn't matter if he did. God says double check.
- 38:17So you have to know how to navigate through God's word.
- 38:20It's not hard once you learn it, it's it's impossible.
- 38:24It's not common sense. So you have to learn it.
- 38:27I was fortunate enough to go to Bible college to learn it.
- 38:31It wasn't something that I knew. I was just doing that, figuring
- 38:34that's what it means to me. It's divine.
- 38:36I like the I'm like the X-Men. You think it's like COVID.
- 38:40You just got a gift. No, it's like everything else
- 38:44here. You reap what you sow.
- 38:46If you want to a, you got to work at it.
- 38:48You got to sacrifice your time. I want to learn a different
- 38:50language. I got to sacrifice my time in
- 38:53practice. You want to be good at sports,
- 38:55you got to sacrifice your time in practice.
- 38:58You want to be healthy. You got to sacrifice your time
- 39:00in practice and do it so you want a relationship with God.
- 39:04You got to sacrifice your time and listen.
- 39:07And you know, we say, Doug, one of Satan's biggest weapons is
- 39:11deception. So we've, you know, he is again
- 39:15seeking to deceive us to not get the truth.
- 39:20So we keep, as it were, wandering around and never
- 39:24finding that target and never really getting to actually build
- 39:29a real true relationship on God based on his word because he
- 39:33start, he wants to confuse us, deceive us, so we don't find
- 39:37that target and we have that song Bullseye, right?
- 39:41And that's a going back to the song.
- 39:43This, the song about the daily spiritual routine, helps us have
- 39:46that target of the bullseye, not shotgun approach, the sniper
- 39:51approach. Correct.
- 39:52And the bullseye. I wrote that song because I was
- 39:55shooting in all different directions.
- 39:56I didn't know what the heck what the heck I was doing.
- 40:00The bullseye represents, now listen, a relationship with God.
- 40:06Now if I want to be a better, a better husband to my wife, I
- 40:11want to love her like Jesus of the church.
- 40:13You know what I usually do? I find out how OK I got to take
- 40:17her out on date night. Listen more, be nicer to her, do
- 40:21more around the house. I miss the target.
- 40:24I miss the bullseye. You know what the bullseye is?
- 40:26Spend more time with God, pray more, ask Him to teach me to
- 40:31change my heart, to build me into a better husband.
- 40:35You see. So that's the core.
- 40:37He changes me from the on the inside.
- 40:39So everything across the board changes.
- 40:42If we have problems, the point of the problem is we lean on God
- 40:46and we forget to lean on God because when Adam and Eve ate
- 40:50from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, what that did
- 40:53is they gave them knowledge. So now they think they know how
- 40:58many of us think we know or how many of our kids think they know
- 41:01better than us? All of a sudden they're
- 41:04dependent and they don't know anything.
- 41:05And then like one year, they're like, they know everything.
- 41:09Oh, I know, I know. Wait, wait.
- 41:11What happened? Now you know everything.
- 41:14Did you eat something? Because you know I don't want to
- 41:15eat that. Now all of a sudden, you know,
- 41:18when you you were clueless a month ago, You know what I'm
- 41:21saying? And that's sinful nature.
- 41:24And I always tell you submission asking anyway, even if I think I
- 41:28know, I ask, you know, I don't trust myself because I, I can
- 41:34feel like it's right. And you know, Kev, like flying
- 41:37the HSI, you can feel like you're going straight and you're
- 41:42going down. Right, exactly what a great
- 41:44analogy that is, Doug, because again, and, and, and the
- 41:47learning process by which I had to go through when I when I
- 41:52started doing my pilot's license, private pilots
- 41:55different. You fly by visual VFR VFR means
- 41:59visual flight references. You can see around, you can see
- 42:01the ground, you can see the sky. But when you get into what's
- 42:04called IFR, which is instrument flight rating, where you are in
- 42:08clouds, you're you're, you're, you're confused.
- 42:11You can't see outside and your body starts to lie to you.
- 42:14Your emotions lie to you. That tells you things and it and
- 42:18the process of overriding that emotion of thinking that you're
- 42:24doing something that it's not it.
- 42:26That was the challenge. And that's just the same thing
- 42:28with spiritual growth, Doug, is we have to not base our our our
- 42:33faith, our base our hope on emotion.
- 42:36You have to base it on truth, and what is the truth is the
- 42:39word of God. Yes, and and that's it.
- 42:42It's knowing what to do when the storms come.
- 42:45We're in the storm. We're not.
- 42:47Let's say we we didn't get our paycheck yet and we're short now
- 42:51that voice continue. Are you going to lose the house?
- 42:54What a loser. How stupid are you not what
- 42:56you're going to do you better make a loan.
- 42:58You start worrying. God says now again in
- 43:01Philippians 46 or 8, don't be anxious about anything, but in
- 43:05everything, my prayer and petition with Thanksgiving
- 43:07present your request to God and the peace of God, which
- 43:11transcends all understanding. Meaning we're not going to
- 43:13understand how it happens. We'll guard our hearts and our
- 43:16minds. Meaning give it to him and don't
- 43:20continue to worry about it because that's not going to
- 43:23change anything for the positive.
- 43:25But the Holy Spirit says, now keep in step with me.
- 43:27Help me help you change the channel.
- 43:30Focus on all the blessings you have.
- 43:31Focus on the tiger and the the the lion and the bear that David
- 43:37killed. Now he has the courage to fight
- 43:39Goliath. Everybody else was shaking in
- 43:42their boots or their sandals back in the day.
- 43:45Only David, the little runt of the litter of his seven
- 43:49brothers, the smallest one, went out and took on the giant.
- 43:52And he's a legend because of it. Why?
- 43:54Because he lifted it up to God. He knows God is his strength and
- 43:59he remembered killing the lion and killing the bear when they
- 44:02tried to kill the sheep, and he knew then that was God back
- 44:06then. So this guy with God, I can do
- 44:09anything. Right, Doug.
- 44:11And that's going back to the song, tying in the daily
- 44:14spiritual routine, having the applying the daily spiritual
- 44:18routine, and then paying attention to the altars that God
- 44:23brings along in that growth process of building your trust
- 44:27in Him. Doug, trust, faith, love, all
- 44:32those things start to grow when you develop your daily spiritual
- 44:36routine and God shows you those little altars along the way.
- 44:40And that's The thing is that Satan wants us to forget those
- 44:43things, not God's, not with you. Come on, that was by chance.
- 44:48But those are the benchmarks of God and the Holy Spirit changing
- 44:53your heart little by little by little.
- 44:55It's not like it just happens overnight.
- 44:57It's like going to the gym, like flying and learning how to be a
- 44:59pilot, learning how to do all these.
- 45:01It's a daily application. And of course, you know, the
- 45:04thing, Doug, you know, today is about the churches whereby they
- 45:07go once on Wednesday and once on Sunday and the, and the pastors
- 45:11aren't encouraging their, their, their congregation to, to read
- 45:16and in this structured fashion. So what is you know, you always
- 45:19talk and you hammer this. If you love me, you feed my
- 45:22sheep, you feed my sheep, you feed my sheep.
- 45:25So that's the thing about what Christ built does is that we not
- 45:29just feed once a week or twice a week like babies that crave, you
- 45:34know, crave spiritual milk, newborn babies every, how often
- 45:38throughout the day, every day, all throughout the day.
- 45:41Yes, and then you go back to why God created us.
- 45:45He created Adam in his own image to spend time with Adam every
- 45:50day, all day, not once a week. Come on down for an hour and a
- 45:54half and then Wednesday, Sundays and Wednesdays.
- 45:57No, every day he walked in the garden.
- 46:00Now in Adam's sin that separated them and he could have sent them
- 46:04to hell with Satan and his demons, but he loved Adam and he
- 46:08loved his creation us. He sent his son to what to re
- 46:14establish or establish an intimate daily relationship with
- 46:18him. So understanding that is the
- 46:21reason Jesus came here to connect us, to give us those who
- 46:26want to give us the opportunity to build an intimate daily
- 46:31relationship with our creator God the Father who loves us a
- 46:35million times more than anybody here on earth.
- 46:38And that is the reason not so he can answer my every prayer and
- 46:43not be with me to be my my genie in a in a black book.
- 46:48It's for it's for the privilege of me spending time with him.
- 46:52We can't approach Donald Trump president.
- 46:55They'll they'll tackle you down, especially after his life was
- 46:58threatened so many times. No, we cannot approach the King
- 47:01of kings with with dirty clothes, with a dirty heart.
- 47:05That's what Jesus did. He paid the penalty, so we can
- 47:08come to Him now and hear and listen and grow with Him and
- 47:12learn from Him the right way. We learned the wrong way from
- 47:16our human fathers, because I don't know anybody that was
- 47:19raised. Christ built and raising the
- 47:22training the way they should go. So they have hurt in their
- 47:25heart. How do you get rid of it?
- 47:27Somebody wrongs you. They call you names, they hurt
- 47:29you deeply. How you going to hear that
- 47:30wound? Come on.
- 47:31Every time you what is forgiveness is when you think of
- 47:34the offense or the hurt, does it steal your joy?
- 47:38It doesn't affect you emotionally.
- 47:41Now how are you going to make it not affect you if it really hurt
- 47:45you? You can't.
- 47:47So you know what you do, you cope.
- 47:49I say like a martini. People drink.
- 47:51You have a coping cocktail. Whatever it is to get through
- 47:55that voice, not taking you into a dark place.
- 47:59A lot of people harden their heart.
- 48:00That's why you see such coldness here in the islands before you
- 48:04said the whole lost spirit. Hey, Kev, eat before you.
- 48:09Go home. Kev, go home.
- 48:11We're going to eat. You know, kids before you, you,
- 48:14you take care of each other, especially the Hawaiian culture.
- 48:17Aloha spirit, loving and hospitable spirit.
- 48:20We take care of each other. That's the thing of the past.
- 48:24So sad, Doug, so sad, you know, and one of the things, one of
- 48:27the terms I love you use Doug as a Christologist.
- 48:31What's your prescription, Doug? If those listeners that are out
- 48:34there that are in those places in their life that are having
- 48:37marital issues, they're having relationship issues with their
- 48:39children, maybe at work or just, you know, in the place in a dark
- 48:43place where they got their own coping cocktails.
- 48:46You know, Doug, even even you've shared your stain deities.
- 48:49You know about your, about your drinking, you know, your pills
- 48:52and all that stuff. And as a Christologist
- 48:55prescription for those that are listening out there, what would
- 48:57you know, as we kind of close down here?
- 48:59What would be your prescription, Doug, for those out there that
- 49:01are listening to us today that are in those places in their
- 49:04life where it seems very bleak and very dark right now, and
- 49:08you've been in that place. Yeah, which everybody, it's we,
- 49:12we need to spend time the the covenant, the agreement is Jesus
- 49:15takes our time, our place on the cross full time.
- 49:19Now he doesn't get off at at 5 full time.
- 49:22So we seek the Lord full time, just like being married.
- 49:27We're not married part time and I'm off at 5:00 and my wife is
- 49:31off. We're married all the time.
- 49:32What What God has joined together.
- 49:35Nobody can separate we're connected.
- 49:39So all the time the problem the people with problems like me and
- 49:44others that I used to work with and in M triple C the benefit is
- 49:50I have problems I'm I'm problematic.
- 49:55So if I don't stay connected to God all the time I start to
- 49:59malfunction right away. I'm not somebody that clams up
- 50:04and just it's quiet. It keeps it insight.
- 50:08It'll overflow unto others. So the great thing is I have a
- 50:12need all the time to connect to God and that's going to be a
- 50:15reminder. It's the people that aren't like
- 50:17that like a Brandon and you, you keep it to yourself.
- 50:20And that's when people, they handle things.
- 50:23They're no longer with us in the wrong way, if you know what I
- 50:25mean. This is radio so.
- 50:28Exactly, Doug and so yeah, that's that's again building
- 50:33that daily re spiritual routine. It's a song coming back in
- 50:37talking about, you know, the music that we've got created the
- 50:40podcast, the things of that nature of the tools and the
- 50:43resources that are noted becoming available for those
- 50:46kids. You know, being on this what is
- 50:48our 32nd episode here and out dug on men helping men.
- 50:52Now we're starting to develop those the the core teaching
- 50:56tools through our podcasts. Also, we got some great stuff
- 51:00coming up here and and the next year whereby we've got a concert
- 51:04venue coming up here. We're going to be having a a
- 51:06very special concert for the Men Helping Men foundation here in
- 51:09the island of Maui. But always a pleasure, Doug, to
- 51:12sit and talk about our Lord and Savior Jesus talking about
- 51:17building that relationship with God.
- 51:19Brandon, it's always a pleasure to have you over there doing the
- 51:21production of the show here. And we just want to thank you
- 51:24guys. I'm going to let Doug take it
- 51:26out here today. Thank you for joining us today.
- 51:28God bless you all out there. We'll be back here on Wednesday,
- 51:31actually will be Friday, but coming up here, we've got three
- 51:34days a week. So, Doug, take it away.
- 51:36For us for today, it's it'll be Friday at 7:00 in the morning
- 51:39and, and Monday's at 11. And we're going to we're we're
- 51:44going to get together with building our website, getting
- 51:48the spiritual routine available to everyone where you have a you
- 51:52have an opportunity. And it's not, it seems, hey,
- 51:55that's no problem. I can do it.
- 51:56But the spiritual warfare attached to it, that's the
- 51:59challenge. That's defying ourselves and
- 52:01taking up our cross baby, worth it.
- 52:03It's worth it for eternity. God bless you.
- 52:05See you soon. Aloha men helping.
- 52:53talk.
