- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:17Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: a hater. Obviously, we got a lot of NFL action
- 0:25Speaker 1: to talk about. We got a NFL Super Bowl halftime
- 0:29Speaker 1: to talk about. I wish I could repeat to you
- 0:32Speaker 1: the text that Elle Duncan sent me Sunday morning when
- 0:36Speaker 1: I said that it must have been a good day
- 0:38Speaker 1: to be her husband after Vanderbilt won and Georgia lost.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And boy, there was a little bit of tension in
- 0:44Speaker 1: that household. Good gracious. But anyway, we had a panic
- 0:48Speaker 1: bowl on Sunday. The panic bowl was at Arrowhead Stadium.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It was the Ravens and the Chiefs. And I think
- 0:56Speaker 1: that this is pretty fair to say, even about the Chiefs,
- 0:59Speaker 1: who obviously would be the team least inclined to panic
- 1:03Speaker 1: out of any team in the NFL. That was a
- 1:06Speaker 1: panic bowl. That is too. Excellent teams are teams that
- 1:10Speaker 1: we came into this year thinking of as probably being excellent.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Two teams with excellent quarterbacks, right? With multiple time MVPs
- 1:20Speaker 1: at quarterback, both of whom went into that game with
- 1:24Speaker 1: a one and two record. Like this was kind of
- 1:30Speaker 1: sort of must win. Now, I would contend that actually
- 1:35Speaker 1: going into the game, it was a bit more of
- 1:37Speaker 1: a must win for the Chiefs. than it was a
- 1:39Speaker 1: must-win for the Ravens. The reason I would say that
- 1:42Speaker 1: it was more of a must-win for the Chiefs than
- 1:43Speaker 1: it was for the Ravens is that the Chiefs are
- 1:47Speaker 1: in a very good division, right? I think I would
- 1:50Speaker 1: stop short of saying excellent because the Raiders, right? But
- 1:55Speaker 1: they are in a very good division. The Ravens, I mean...
- 2:02Speaker 1: Are you really believing in the Steelers right now? Like,
- 2:05Speaker 1: are you sure about the Steelers? Are you positive about
- 2:09Speaker 1: the Steelers? Because I'm not positive about the Steelers, right?
- 2:13Speaker 1: Then after that, it's the Bengals who, you know, we
- 2:16Speaker 1: had real questions about them. And that was before Joe
- 2:19Speaker 1: Burrow got hurt. And then it's the Cleveland Browns who, man, wow.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I didn't realize, Ryan, just how bad the Saints and
- 2:31Speaker 1: the Titans were until I realized how much worse their
- 2:35Speaker 1: point differential was than the Browns.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Still throwing out Joe Flacco.
- 2:39Speaker 1: They are still throwing out Joe Flacco. What's so funny
- 2:46Speaker 1: about them is if you don't root for them, it
- 2:49Speaker 1: really doesn't matter at all who plays quarterback. Like none
- 2:52Speaker 1: of that is going to change the end result. And
- 2:57Speaker 1: by the way, since the last time we talked about
- 2:59Speaker 1: Shador on this show, is that when he said the
- 3:02Speaker 1: thing about he'd be watching the league and seeing half
- 3:05Speaker 1: of them cats and knowing that he could play? And
- 3:07Speaker 1: it's just like, stop.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Don't.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Don't.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Don't do that. He handled the before this process so well.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And he wants to see it. And watching Joe Flacco
- 3:19Speaker 2: is breaking.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 1: But also, to be fair to him, and I think
- 3:23Speaker 1: this is a very important point, I, too, think that
- 3:27Speaker 1: I can do that. Like, at least Shador was nice
- 3:32Speaker 1: enough to say that he was looking at the rest
- 3:34Speaker 1: of the league.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Correct.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Not his own locker room. He wasn't talking about, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: when he watches the rest of the league, when he
- 3:41Speaker 1: watches film of the Browns. Yes, the rest of the
- 3:44Speaker 1: league is also in these games, but directly in front
- 3:47Speaker 1: of him It's Joe Flacco, because I guarantee you this,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Dilley Gabriel's mama is telling everybody that her son can
- 3:54Speaker 1: play right now in those games. I guess Kenny Pickett
- 3:57Speaker 1: don't play for them no more, but he looking at
- 3:59Speaker 1: Joe Flacco like, I don't really understand why I'm over
- 4:03Speaker 1: here behind Geno, who was cheat in this last game.
- 4:07Speaker 1: But anyway, back to the Ravens, who also were looking cheats.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Point differential is a thing now. That I think really
- 4:14Speaker 1: matters the farther along you go in the season. Like
- 4:17Speaker 1: I think really at the midpoint of a season, it
- 4:19Speaker 1: matters the most in terms of being a measure of
- 4:21Speaker 1: how good your team is. It starts mattering a bit
- 4:24Speaker 1: less at the end of the season. And I only
- 4:26Speaker 1: say that then because the injury situation starts flipping up
- 4:29Speaker 1: and more teams got more people banged up. And the
- 4:32Speaker 1: team that you have at the end of the year
- 4:34Speaker 1: becomes less reflective of the team that you've had through
- 4:37Speaker 1: the duration of the sample over which you collect the
- 4:40Speaker 1: point differential. You see what I mean? What the team
- 4:44Speaker 1: is in weeks, call it 12, is better connected to
- 4:47Speaker 1: that total in many cases than what the team is
- 4:49Speaker 1: in week 17 because the team that has week 17
- 4:53Speaker 1: got a lot more people in traction and shit. But
- 4:55Speaker 1: the Ravens right now have a point differential of negative two.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That's not bad. That's kind of crazy for a team
- 5:05Speaker 1: that is one in three. This game against the Chiefs,
- 5:11Speaker 1: they got smacked. Those other two losses obviously were close ones.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And also to be fair to them, the three teams
- 5:19Speaker 1: that they've lost to are probably fairly good, right? We
- 5:23Speaker 1: still don't know how good the Chiefs are, though credit
- 5:26Speaker 1: to them on this. Number one, They looked like they
- 5:28Speaker 1: had the confidence and they were going long. Anyway, I
- 5:31Speaker 1: guess we saw this in some previous games too, but
- 5:33Speaker 1: they are going for chunks. It's not just the nickel
- 5:36Speaker 1: and dime show that it often feels like. They're clearly trying.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Mahomes hasn't been as good on the default as you like,
- 5:41Speaker 1: but they're going for chunks. And two, and I think
- 5:43Speaker 1: this part is important, Taequann Thornton, whose name at this
- 5:47Speaker 1: point in my old ass life sounds like he could
- 5:50Speaker 1: be one of several wide receivers and defensive backs in
- 5:53Speaker 1: the NFL. I don't know where he went to college.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I don't know any particular details about him. I will
- 5:58Speaker 1: look this up them up as we speak. However, he
- 6:00Speaker 1: appears to be good and he appears to be good
- 6:03Speaker 1: in a way that I think for the rest of
- 6:06Speaker 1: the season for the Chiefs. Worthy came back and that
- 6:09Speaker 1: for me, at least, is as good as I feel
- 6:10Speaker 1: like I've seen Xavier Worthy look. in the NFL right
- 6:14Speaker 1: so he's back Thornton is able to go long and
- 6:18Speaker 1: do those things and then at some point Rasheed Rice
- 6:21Speaker 1: is going to be back at which point just throwing
- 6:24Speaker 1: this out there they could be kind of terrified um
- 6:29Speaker 1: holy smokes uh did you know Ryan, that Tyquan Thornton
- 6:34Speaker 1: ran a 4-2-1 unofficial 40 at the Combine in 2022?
- 6:38Speaker 2: I did not. I just remembered that he went to Baylor.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So he's very one of those.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you this. That boy went to
- 6:45Speaker 1: Baylor and he is from Miami. And I am saying
- 6:48Speaker 1: that to say to you, there's a story. I don't
- 6:53Speaker 1: know what exactly that story is, but for those two
- 6:57Speaker 1: entities to come together with all those miles in between.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Them, Yeah, the Miami to Waco pipeline isn't exactly.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Not strong, not strong, not strong, not strong. There's a, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 1: There's a story there. But anyway, that boy can burn.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It appears that maybe he's been good all along and
- 7:12Speaker 1: we just didn't know it because he had been playing
- 7:14Speaker 1: for the modern incarnation of the New England Patriots. Just
- 7:19Speaker 1: throwing it out there. But the Chiefs, the Chiefs may
- 7:23Speaker 1: be better than it appeared. They could be a team
- 7:26Speaker 1: that is putting it all together. Meanwhile, back to the Ravens.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I threw out the point about point differential to kind
- 7:36Speaker 1: of undercut the point somewhat when talking about the Ravens.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It matters.
- 7:41Speaker 1: But the question about them is why y'all stay losing
- 7:47Speaker 1: this game? And why do y'all stay looking like this
- 7:52Speaker 1: when you lose this game? My buddy Nick makes this point,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and I think his inclination can be to point more
- 7:59Speaker 1: toward Lamar than is Dan is mine. But I do
- 8:04Speaker 1: think the first place we look is the guy whose
- 8:06Speaker 1: job Lamar saved seven years ago. And it's Harbaugh because
- 8:11Speaker 1: it's not just Lamar. Now, look, fairness to the Ravens. Also,
- 8:14Speaker 1: that defense is looking like Afghanistan. You know what I'm saying?
- 8:17Speaker 1: Bombed out and depleted. They are down, not just guys,
- 8:21Speaker 1: but like good players. Like they've got issues on defense
- 8:27Speaker 1: that aren't really anybody's fault. They also may have some
- 8:30Speaker 1: issues that are people's fault, like what exactly our man
- 8:33Speaker 1: Zach Orr is over there doing, right? But too often
- 8:37Speaker 1: in games of this consequence or against teams of this
- 8:41Speaker 1: quality who are not the Cincinnati Bengals, whose asses they
- 8:44Speaker 1: consistently whoop, It looks a lot like this or it
- 8:48Speaker 1: gets to the end and then it gets back to
- 8:51Speaker 1: looking like this. And to me, the answer to that
- 8:54Speaker 1: question is probably you need to go talk to the
- 8:57Speaker 1: coach and see what is going on in that situation.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I will tell you another funny story with my buddy Nick.
- 9:04Speaker 1: There were two games that were on yesterday. We'll talk
- 9:06Speaker 1: more about one of them later. But it was the
- 9:08Speaker 1: Eagles and the Bucks with a day slate and the
- 9:11Speaker 1: Ravens and the Chiefs were in the night in the
- 9:15Speaker 1: four o'clock joint. And I decided to myself that that
- 9:19Speaker 1: was not a good day to go to Nick's house
- 9:21Speaker 1: to watch football. Number one, he's heavily invested in Baker
- 9:25Speaker 1: Mayfield and Baker Mayfield went to Oklahoma. So like, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I don't really be getting down with that. And I'm
- 9:30Speaker 1: still not sold. But anyway, then it was the Ravens
- 9:34Speaker 1: and the Chiefs. And I had a realization when the
- 9:37Speaker 1: Ravens played the Detroit Lions on Monday night. And in
- 9:42Speaker 1: case you're curious, the Detroit Lions have the highest point
- 9:44Speaker 1: differential in the NFL. Did you note that?
- 9:48Speaker 6: Anyway, I'm watching the game and I realize that I
- 9:57Speaker 6: had gotten back to this game of being a fan,
- 10:03Speaker 6: and it's kind of new to me.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Because I divorced myself after I got myself off that
- 10:08Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcon narcotic. So I hadn't been a fan in
- 10:11Speaker 1: a long time. And I looked up and I realized
- 10:15Speaker 1: that being a fan, they required me to do something
- 10:17Speaker 1: that I generally ain't about doing. I generally kind of
- 10:20Speaker 1: prefer not to do. And in fact, what I absolutely
- 10:23Speaker 1: don't do, which is I was in a position where
- 10:25Speaker 1: I had to root against Lamar Jackson. I just don't
- 10:30Speaker 1: like doing that. I don't at all. But what I
- 10:36Speaker 1: really wasn't feeling like, even with one of my very
- 10:39Speaker 1: good friends, I can't be over there sitting next to
- 10:44Speaker 1: this white man that is vehemently rooting against Lamar Jackson.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And look, look, look, look, look, you got to understand something.
- 10:50Speaker 1: We're talking about Nick here. My brother didn't know that
- 10:53Speaker 1: Nick was white until sometime in the year 2018. And
- 10:56Speaker 1: when I told him, he didn't believe. You know what
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm saying? Like, a lot of y'all be out here
- 11:00Speaker 1: extending invites to the cookout. You sound ridiculous. But in
- 11:03Speaker 1: this particular case, cookout might be at Nick's house. So
- 11:06Speaker 1: I don't want y'all to think that I'm casting any
- 11:08Speaker 1: aspersions upon him with what I'm saying. Because I ain't
- 11:13Speaker 1: worried about that at all when it comes to Nick.
- 11:15Speaker 1: He's just a really big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 11:18Speaker 1: But especially now that he got that long hair, I
- 11:21Speaker 1: just couldn't be sitting next to this white man.
- 11:24Speaker 7: Viciously rooting against Lamar Jackson. Like, you know, I ain't
- 11:27Speaker 7: that far in my journey. It don't feel right. Me
- 11:30Speaker 7: and Dominique talk about this all the time. We got
- 11:32Speaker 7: enough black quarterbacks now that I ain't got a ride
- 11:34Speaker 7: for all of them.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Right?
- 11:37Speaker 1: We ain't got to do that. Shout out to you,
- 11:39Speaker 1: Tony Banks. My pops still like you. You know what
- 11:41Speaker 1: I'm saying? But we ain't got to live like that
- 11:43Speaker 1: no more. That wasn't going to feel right. I couldn't
- 11:48Speaker 1: be in that place.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Right?
- 11:49Speaker 1: And it would have been extra bad because Lamar was
- 11:51Speaker 1: out there doing exactly what Nick be saying he do.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Right?
- 11:57Speaker 1: Allegations were not being beaten, right? It's all there for them.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And what is troubling, or would be troubling to me,
- 12:08Speaker 1: if I were a Ravens fan, I am not a
- 12:10Speaker 1: Ravens fan, just to be clear. I'm just not in
- 12:13Speaker 1: the business of rooting against Lamar Jackson. I ain't even
- 12:15Speaker 1: got to root for him all the time. I can't
- 12:17Speaker 1: be rooting for him. No, no, no, no, no. That's
- 12:21Speaker 1: what me and L was talking about last show. He
- 12:23Speaker 1: be meeting us. But anyway, I don't know what the
- 12:28Speaker 1: Ravens can do in the course of the season that
- 12:31Speaker 1: will alleviate the skepticism that I think that they have
- 12:34Speaker 1: earned about the vaunted games that matter place, right? And
- 12:39Speaker 1: I tend to be, I try to be careful about
- 12:41Speaker 1: talking about, you know, oh, they can't win big games
- 12:44Speaker 1: because what happens when somebody says that you can't win
- 12:47Speaker 1: big games is that the games that you win by
- 12:51Speaker 1: definition then can't be big. So again, for example, We
- 12:54Speaker 1: don't say that Joe Burrow can't win big games, but
- 12:57Speaker 1: Joe Burrow can't win games against Lamar Jackson, using those
- 13:01Speaker 1: terms in the way that y'all dumbasses be using them,
- 13:03Speaker 1: like quarterbacks or whole teams, right? We don't say that
- 13:09Speaker 1: about Burrow. Now, in part, obviously, it's because he went
- 13:11Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl, but we pick and choose which
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the big games matter. College football, James Franklin is
- 13:17Speaker 1: the one who is dealing with that. Like, I feel
- 13:20Speaker 1: like James Franklin has gotten him boys to a Rose
- 13:22Speaker 1: Bowl and won a Big Ten championship. feel like that
- 13:25Speaker 1: probably involved winning a big game. But you'd have lost
- 13:28Speaker 1: enough of the other ones that you're just the guy
- 13:30Speaker 1: that can't win a big game, right? Now, with Franklin,
- 13:34Speaker 1: in the ones that I've watched at least, I don't
- 13:37Speaker 1: see a great through line as to what happens or
- 13:40Speaker 1: how it goes. With the Ravens, the through line seems
- 13:44Speaker 1: pretty simple, man. They seem to go out there tight.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Like, they.
- 13:51Speaker 1: They seem to go out there, shook up, playing these games,
- 13:54Speaker 1: which is on one level wild because so many of
- 13:58Speaker 1: their good players have been in the league so long
- 14:00Speaker 1: at this point. But I also think, like, Ray Lewis
- 14:04Speaker 1: does not play for this team. Ed Reed does not
- 14:06Speaker 1: play for this team. Terrell Suggs does not play for
- 14:09Speaker 1: this team. Peter Bulwer does not play for this team.
- 14:12Speaker 1: The point that I'm making when I say that, because
- 14:14Speaker 1: obviously they're all old. They don't play for this team.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But.
- 14:18Speaker 1: This isn't a collection of dudes that have been there before.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It's just not. You know, they get some guys that
- 14:28Speaker 1: have been there at different points, like Kyle Van Noy,
- 14:30Speaker 1: for example. But this isn't a bunch of guys who
- 14:32Speaker 1: have done this before. I don't know what it is
- 14:35Speaker 1: about them. I don't know if it really is directly
- 14:38Speaker 1: to blame on the coach. That's just the place to look.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But one in three for them doesn't feel like the
- 14:46Speaker 1: season's over. just because of how close a lot of
- 14:50Speaker 1: these games have been, it doesn't feel like the season's over.
- 14:54Speaker 1: They're going to have the best player on the field
- 14:56Speaker 1: probably for the rest of the games they play this season.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It doesn't feel like the season's over. The question is
- 15:04Speaker 1: whether or not it matters if the season's over. If
- 15:06Speaker 1: when you got a, hey, when this or the season's
- 15:08Speaker 1: over game, And there's not just a distinct possibility, but
- 15:13Speaker 1: a likelihood, preponderance of evidence, perhaps, that this is the
- 15:16Speaker 1: way that you're going to wind up showing up, right?
- 15:18Speaker 1: And again, this against a team that be handing your
- 15:20Speaker 1: ass to you every time y'all play against them. Y'all
- 15:23Speaker 1: ain't even look salty about it, right? That's the stuff
- 15:25Speaker 1: that's easy for me to say from a distance. I
- 15:27Speaker 1: fully understand. Forgive me if I'm being that guy. What guy?
- 15:30Speaker 1: That guy. What guy? That guy. Forgive me if I'm
- 15:34Speaker 1: doing that. But it can't keep being like that for
- 15:41Speaker 1: them on the other side if the Chiefs can string
- 15:46Speaker 1: a couple of these together everybody in the AFC is
- 15:50Speaker 1: going to be shook and we're going to be back
- 15:52Speaker 1: to thinking that they're the team that's going to win
- 15:55Speaker 1: the conference and the division a division that would be
- 15:58Speaker 1: their 10th straight it's just a little bit crazy All right, man,
- 16:09Speaker 1: we watched a few other games yesterday. Ryan, I don't
- 16:12Speaker 1: know how much of that Eagles-Bucks game that I told
- 16:15Speaker 1: you I didn't want to go to Nick's house to
- 16:16Speaker 1: watch that you got a chance to see. At first,
- 16:22Speaker 1: my read on that game was it felt like watching, because,
- 16:26Speaker 1: you know, the Bucks are 3-0 going in, but they
- 16:28Speaker 1: had all these nail-biter wins against teams that aren't good.
- 16:31Speaker 2: And a lot of injuries are starting to mount up
- 16:34Speaker 2: for them.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yes, but it felt like It felt like one of
- 16:39Speaker 1: those years where, for whatever reason, Mississippi State is 7-0.
- 16:43Speaker 2: And they play Alabama. Yes. Yes.
- 16:46Speaker 1: That is exactly how it felt. It was just like, oh,
- 16:50Speaker 1: one of these teams is much better than the other.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Right?
- 16:54Speaker 1: And, like, with your little bitty quarterback running around and
- 16:57Speaker 1: trying to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Like,
- 17:01Speaker 1: that's what it felt like at first. And the Eagles
- 17:03Speaker 1: were just smacking and blocking kicks. You know, like it
- 17:06Speaker 1: just it looked like that. And then, of course, it
- 17:08Speaker 1: didn't end like that, did it? Right. The Bucs managed
- 17:11Speaker 1: to bring it around. They came back. And how long
- 17:15Speaker 1: are we cutting the Eagles slack for kind of sort
- 17:19Speaker 1: of barely getting it done? I mean, I think that's
- 17:23Speaker 1: the fair question at this point. Ryan, I watched it.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I didn't notice it as this happened. But did you
- 17:28Speaker 1: say that Jalen Hurts did not complete a pass in
- 17:30Speaker 1: the second half?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Did not complete a pass in the second half.
- 17:32Speaker 1: That's a Jimmy Garoppolo thing, right? Remember that playoff game
- 17:35Speaker 1: that the 49ers had where Garoppolo did not, I don't
- 17:38Speaker 1: even remember if they let him throw a pass.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I think he threw eight passes the whole way.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Come on, man. Like, y'all got to stop acting like
- 17:46Speaker 1: the skepticism. How you going to act like this Southern
- 17:48Speaker 1: Raw with me being skeptical of him when he got
- 17:50Speaker 1: their head coached? feel the exact same way. You got A.J.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Brown talking about you just got to shrug your shoulder.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Don't make a scene. Just shrug your shoulder. You just
- 17:59Speaker 1: made a scene. For those of you who don't know
- 18:03Speaker 1: what I'm talking about, after the game.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Can I read the quote?
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yes, please.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Just so people know. A.J. Green, after the game, posted
- 18:10Speaker 1: the following in a screenshot.
- 18:13Speaker 2: If you are not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on
- 18:19Speaker 2: your way.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I believe that A.J. Green is married and I ache
- 18:24Speaker 1: for that woman because this is the most passive aggressive
- 18:28Speaker 1: man on planet Earth.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I love you did the call of AJ Green instead
- 18:34Speaker 2: of AJ Brown. Oh, my bad.
- 18:36Speaker 1: My bad. AJ Green, I apologize to you because there
- 18:41Speaker 1: are few traits I dislike more than passive aggression. AJ Brown, oh,
- 18:47Speaker 1: nothing's wrong. See, the old nothing's wrong ass dude.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Why would you think anything's wrong?
- 18:53Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right.
- 18:55Speaker 8: No, no.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You know, what's wrong is that you keep asking me
- 18:58Speaker 1: what's wrong.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I wasn't angry, but now I'm starting to get angry.
- 19:04Speaker 1: There we go. This is what we've got here. I
- 19:08Speaker 1: can't believe this. But at the same time, to be
- 19:11Speaker 1: fair to him, it's one thing where the receiver's not
- 19:13Speaker 1: getting the ball and he's upset. It's got to be
- 19:17Speaker 1: extra tough when you're not getting the ball and there's
- 19:19Speaker 1: clearly a problem. But you're winning. So nobody wants to
- 19:25Speaker 1: hear what you have to say. Nobody does. That's where A.J.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Brown is in dealing with whatever it is with the Eagles.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But you can't win for real like this. Like, you
- 19:38Speaker 1: tell me if I'm wrong. But I don't– like, this
- 19:40Speaker 1: is not a– this is not a sustainable situation.
- 19:43Speaker 2: You're not going to score 31 points with 200 yards
- 19:46Speaker 2: of offense every week.
- 19:48Speaker 4: No.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That is– that is not going to be what the
- 19:52Speaker 1: thing is. Like this is, this is what the Chiefs,
- 19:55Speaker 1: this feels like what the Chiefs were last year, right?
- 19:57Speaker 1: Just getting it done a little bit. Nickel and diamond here.
- 20:00Speaker 1: They're so talented and they are champions. So there's an
- 20:05Speaker 1: element of find a way to win, but that is
- 20:07Speaker 1: not a sustainable strategy.
- 20:09Speaker 2: What do they want now? Twenty one. Twenty of twenty
- 20:11Speaker 2: one straight.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Twenty or twenty one. Good for you guys. You clearly
- 20:15Speaker 1: have something that's going, but you can't feel good about this.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And clearly, A.J. Brown does not feel good about this.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Speaking of not feeling good about something, by the way,
- 20:28Speaker 1: I just saw this ride. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are
- 20:31Speaker 1: three and one after that close loss to the Eagles
- 20:35Speaker 1: and their point differential is now zero. Just throwing it
- 20:39Speaker 1: out there that they're kind of scraping and getting by too.
- 20:44Speaker 1: But speaking of not feeling good, I'll never forget something once.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It was a different era in time. And so some
- 20:52Speaker 1: of you young people need to understand that people would
- 20:54Speaker 1: say things like this on television. but there was a year.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I can't remember which season it was, but this is
- 21:00Speaker 1: back when there were ties in college football because it
- 21:03Speaker 1: wasn't always overtime. So in my lifetime games would end
- 21:06Speaker 1: in ties and Michigan had a season where I believe
- 21:09Speaker 1: their record was eight Oh, and three, it's like eight wins,
- 21:12Speaker 1: no losses in three ties. But anyway, Lee Corso was
- 21:17Speaker 1: asked about how it felt to get the tie and
- 21:20Speaker 1: whether that, you know, would be disappointing. And, um, Lee
- 21:25Speaker 1: Corso said, and I quote, because this used to be
- 21:27Speaker 1: a line here, he says, a tie is like kissing
- 21:30Speaker 1: your sister, but a loss is like kissing your brother. Anyway,
- 21:34Speaker 1: no brothers were kissed in Jerry World where there was
- 21:39Speaker 1: a tie game. And I, okay, I normally don't do this,
- 21:44Speaker 1: but I watched the 930 game, the game from Ireland.
- 21:49Speaker 1: with the Steelers. By the way, their backup quarterback guy
- 21:52Speaker 1: jumped in the streets of Dublin the night before the game.
- 21:58Speaker 1: This guy jumped and robbed. And I'm trying to figure
- 22:01Speaker 1: out if they started off to rob him and then
- 22:03Speaker 1: decided to jump him, or started off to jump him
- 22:05Speaker 1: and then decided to rob him. Anyway, I'm saying I
- 22:08Speaker 1: watched the 930 game. I watched games all the way
- 22:12Speaker 1: through the day. Tried to sneak a little nap action
- 22:14Speaker 1: when I could, but I watched a lot of football.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And I was struggling real hard to watch that game
- 22:20Speaker 1: with the Cowboys and the Packers. And I have to say,
- 22:26Speaker 1: I found the tenor of the broadcast to just be messy.
- 22:32Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, I understand that the
- 22:34Speaker 1: intrigue or the allure of this game was Micah Parsons
- 22:38Speaker 1: coming back to play against Dallas. But I just felt
- 22:41Speaker 1: like the whole game, all they was doing was instigating.
- 22:45Speaker 1: And every time it felt like Micah Parsons had a
- 22:47Speaker 1: run on the quarterback, they was getting excited like Dak
- 22:50Speaker 1: was the one that traded him. You know what I'm saying?
- 22:53Speaker 1: By the way, shout out to you, Dak Prescott, because
- 22:55Speaker 1: he out here throwing the eeny, meeny, miny ammo. He
- 22:58Speaker 1: is getting it done. He looked excellent in that game.
- 23:01Speaker 1: And I was texting with Dominique about it, who made
- 23:03Speaker 1: the point that he's been excellent all year. But he
- 23:05Speaker 1: looked really, really good in this game. And also a
- 23:10Speaker 1: measure of credit to the Cowboys in the sense that
- 23:12Speaker 1: they got a lot of good players that they got,
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know, Like low in the draft, like dudes with
- 23:20Speaker 1: names that you don't know about until they play for
- 23:22Speaker 1: the Cowboys. Like Turpin is a good example of that. Right.
- 23:26Speaker 1: They out there, you know, they still.
- 23:29Speaker 2: They still draft.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they draft very well. And look, the Make-A-Wish
- 23:33Speaker 1: Foundation was back out there passing out dreams again in
- 23:36Speaker 1: this game. Don't get me wrong. The point I wanted
- 23:40Speaker 1: to make was and I got to feel like I
- 23:42Speaker 1: feel like everybody else did. My old ass worked really hard.
- 23:45Speaker 1: And I believe that game went till midnight, which does
- 23:48Speaker 1: not typically happen on Sunday night football. I was up
- 23:53Speaker 1: all that time, sweating out a field goal to tie
- 23:58Speaker 1: the game. That was it. To tie the game. We
- 24:05Speaker 1: got to get back to the old rules, baby. There
- 24:07Speaker 1: was nothing wrong with sudden death over time. Everybody wanted overtime,
- 24:13Speaker 1: to be fair. Josh Allen didn't even get to touch
- 24:16Speaker 1: the ball. Then he should have won the game the
- 24:18Speaker 1: other place. I would be okay if the tiebreaker was
- 24:21Speaker 1: a goddamn coin flip. It's a tiebreaker. Everybody had their
- 24:26Speaker 1: chance to win. Instead, we running out a whole nother quarter?
- 24:31Speaker 1: What are you talking about? No, first score wins, as
- 24:37Speaker 1: it was, as it should be. first score wins. That's
- 24:43Speaker 1: what it always should have been. I was so grumpy
- 24:47Speaker 1: that I was so tired and all we got out
- 24:50Speaker 1: of it was a tie. That was it. A tie.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I hated that.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I hated that.
- 25:02Speaker 1: But anyway, I also have to say that Michael Parsons
- 25:06Speaker 1: coming back to play against the Cowboys really didn't prove
- 25:08Speaker 1: to be as compelling as I thought it might be.
- 25:11Speaker 1: The revenge game, right, I believe, is really only a
- 25:14Speaker 1: truly interesting topic if it's a quarterback. Otherwise, you're just
- 25:17Speaker 1: one of 11 guys.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very hard to get... Unless you're Lawrence Taylor
- 25:22Speaker 2: out there, it's really hard to get the true full
- 25:24Speaker 2: pass rush revenge game special. It's also more of a
- 25:27Speaker 2: basketball game topic than a football game topic.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I think that's fair, right? Maybe it's got some hockey
- 25:32Speaker 1: in it or you could be a pitcher. You can
- 25:34Speaker 1: go out here and throw a no-hitter. I think with baseball,
- 25:37Speaker 1: it's less like a revenge game than just a return.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I remember when Darryl Strawberry came back to Shea Stadium
- 25:43Speaker 1: for the first time and they gave him a standing boo.
- 25:46Speaker 1: People stood up and clapped and booed. at the same time, right?
- 25:50Speaker 1: Like that was the middle ground that they had established
- 25:54Speaker 1: when it came to that. But yeah, that didn't, it
- 25:56Speaker 1: didn't do it for me as a television show. as
- 25:58Speaker 1: I thought it would. I tell you, a television show,
- 26:00Speaker 1: we might need to start watching, though. Watching the Titans
- 26:03Speaker 1: press conferences after games. Number one, the head coach, who
- 26:07Speaker 1: all of us think stinks, is starting to get a
- 26:10Speaker 1: little salty with the questions. But, you know, by the way,
- 26:13Speaker 1: shout out to Malik Neighbors. It looks like he tore
- 26:15Speaker 1: his ACL in the game on Sunday. That's a terrible
- 26:18Speaker 1: thing to hear. And we have been talking about how
- 26:20Speaker 1: you know it's bad when the rookies come in salty, right?
- 26:24Speaker 1: Like when the rookies have already had enough of it.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And neighbors was like that as a rookie but now
- 26:30Speaker 1: he's in his second year um cam ward the number
- 26:33Speaker 1: one overall pick who and what i've seen has looked
- 26:40Speaker 1: pretty good so you can play yes but i don't
- 26:44Speaker 1: know who else on that team looks like they could
- 26:47Speaker 1: play they look bad and they just go out here
- 26:50Speaker 1: like They just getting their asses kicked. They lost to
- 26:54Speaker 1: the Rams 33-19. They lost to the Colts 41-20. Those
- 26:57Speaker 1: two were at the crib, by the way. Then they
- 27:00Speaker 1: went to Houston and lost 26 to nothing. And please understand,
- 27:04Speaker 1: the ownership group of the Tennessee Titans wants nothing less
- 27:08Speaker 1: than to go to Houston and get shut out like
- 27:11Speaker 1: they did. A team that was 0-3 coming into that game, right?
- 27:16Speaker 1: And so here is Cam Ward after the game being
- 27:20Speaker 1: asked about how the team played.
- 27:22Speaker 9: Um, everything from interception to a penalty to an incompletion
- 27:29Speaker 9: by me, a bad ball. Um, and then once we
- 27:33Speaker 9: pass the 50, we just not continuing the drive. Um, so,
- 27:37Speaker 9: I mean, if we keeping a buck right now, we ass. So,
- 27:40Speaker 9: we over for it. We have, at this point, we
- 27:42Speaker 9: got nothing to lose. We dropped a quarter of our
- 27:44Speaker 9: fucking game.
- 27:45Speaker 1: If we're keeping it a buck. Now, we got another
- 27:48Speaker 1: one where I couldn't even tell what he was asked about,
- 27:50Speaker 1: but this was his answer.
- 27:51Speaker 2: They think you played personally.
- 27:53Speaker 10: Ass.
- 27:53Speaker 9: Ass.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 27:57Speaker 1: It was asked about how he thought he played personally.
- 27:59Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Ass, but what killed me was at the end.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. I love how he slips in the... He starts
- 28:06Speaker 2: in quarterback talk, just can't help himself.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Yes.
- 28:10Speaker 2: And then goes back right to it. But, like, you
- 28:12Speaker 2: can tell it's the true honesty because... he like breaks
- 28:16Speaker 2: character for like exactly eight seconds and he says you.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Know we're ass can't believe they're this sorry look man
- 28:23Speaker 1: this dude was a no-star recruit from west columbia texas
- 28:27Speaker 1: he went to incarnate word he went to washington state
- 28:30Speaker 1: and then he went to miami he cannot believe how
- 28:34Speaker 1: terrible this team is that he currently plays for just
- 28:39Speaker 1: shocks him at every turn it I always say nothing's
- 28:44Speaker 1: worse than being on a bad baseball team, but at
- 28:45Speaker 1: least they don't hit you in baseball, right? Like being
- 28:48Speaker 1: on a bad baseball team, you got to do this
- 28:49Speaker 1: shit 160 some times a year. At least they don't
- 28:52Speaker 1: hit you, right? Like football, they hit you while you're
- 28:56Speaker 1: being terrible. That's, that's rough. We also had a fun thing.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I didn't see this during the week, Ryan. So I
- 29:08Speaker 1: was unaware that at his press availability, Robert Sala apparently,
- 29:13Speaker 1: had told people, or had said that Liam Cohen, the
- 29:17Speaker 1: coach of the Bucs, was very good. No, sorry, he's
- 29:21Speaker 1: now the coach of the Jaguars. He was officer coordinator
- 29:23Speaker 1: of the Bucs last year. But that he was very
- 29:25Speaker 1: good at legally stealing signs. And if you're not familiar
- 29:29Speaker 1: with Liam Cohen, he's the dork, well, at least he
- 29:31Speaker 1: looked like a dork at the press conference. Duval, remember that?
- 29:36Speaker 1: And so, Sala tried to shake his hand after the game.
- 29:39Speaker 1: The Jaguars won, by the way. They looked good, too.
- 29:43Speaker 1: They won that game, and Sala tried to go dab
- 29:46Speaker 1: him up, and Cohen walked away from him, and then
- 29:49Speaker 1: walked away and told him to keep his name out
- 29:53Speaker 1: his mouth. Did you see, by the way, that Sala
- 29:57Speaker 1: told him that he would end his life?
- 30:01Speaker 2: Again, we were talking about this before the show. Talk
- 30:04Speaker 2: about a stay-ready all-star.
- 30:05Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I would not
- 30:08Speaker 1: want to fight Robert Sala under any circumstance whatsoever. Oh,
- 30:14Speaker 1: he told him, these are quotes, okay? I was trying
- 30:19Speaker 1: to compliment your ass. I will fuck your world up.
- 30:23Speaker 1: You don't want to fuck with me. I will fucking
- 30:26Speaker 1: end your fucking life.
- 30:30Speaker 11: Whoa.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I got it.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yo.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Yeah, all right.
- 30:40Speaker 1: That is amazing. What an amazing thing to say. And
- 30:44Speaker 1: by the way, Ryan, this is my question. If you
- 30:47Speaker 1: are walking away and you hear him say that, on
- 30:51Speaker 1: one level, you got to stop and turn around, but
- 30:54Speaker 1: on another, you can't, right?
- 30:55Speaker 10: Right.
- 30:56Speaker 2: No, you gotta keep walking. Especially if you turn around
- 30:59Speaker 2: and there's a Robert Sala behind you.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Well, it is also very clear that Robert Sala is
- 31:03Speaker 1: a little bit more invested in this than perhaps I was. Although,
- 31:07Speaker 1: I think Liam Cohen.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Apparently more invested than Liam Cohen is because he kept walking.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Well, I was thinking, well, Cohen thought he was doing something. Man,
- 31:14Speaker 1: keep your name out of my mouth. He really thought
- 31:19Speaker 1: he was. And then he found out. He was not.
- 31:23Speaker 2: He was not.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Uh.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Last thing before we go into this break, I'll throw
- 31:26Speaker 1: this out here. Jackson Dart did not look much better
- 31:32Speaker 1: than Russell Wilson to me in what I saw in
- 31:35Speaker 1: that game. Although he did get a Russian touchdown and
- 31:39Speaker 1: he looked like he did the Theo Huxtable touchdown dance.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I have a lot of questions about our friend from Utah.
- 31:46Speaker 1: He did a year at USC and then he went
- 31:49Speaker 1: to Ole Miss. And do his parents even recognize him?
- 31:53Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 31:54Speaker 1: Like he out here doing them dances. He got that
- 31:57Speaker 1: expensive chain on. And my buddy Shannon, I was trying,
- 32:02Speaker 1: I meant to mention this, but I got distracted. My
- 32:05Speaker 1: buddy Shannon was like, who on the defense will try
- 32:08Speaker 1: to take his chain? And I just thought about this.
- 32:11Speaker 1: If these cats was wearing chains like this back when
- 32:13Speaker 1: football was a little bit less of a civil game.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I feel like it would be at least one player
- 32:19Speaker 1: whose whole identity, it would be like a wrestling character.
- 32:22Speaker 1: In fact, somebody could still do this right now. You
- 32:24Speaker 1: make yourself a chain snatcher. Like, you need a cat
- 32:27Speaker 1: out there. Like, I bet you if these cats was
- 32:30Speaker 1: wearing these chains out there in the days of Dick Buckets,
- 32:32Speaker 1: I don't even want to think about what he would
- 32:33Speaker 1: call them people, but he would definitely be snatching them chains, right? Now,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I don't mean a chain snatcher like Aqib Tlaib, who
- 32:41Speaker 1: just really had a problem with that one man having
- 32:44Speaker 1: a chain snatcher. And that's the chain that he snatched.
- 32:46Speaker 1: And when he snatched the chain, he just threw it
- 32:48Speaker 1: on the ground. I'm talking about the chain snatcher, whoever
- 32:51Speaker 1: got a chain on around him, like really on some
- 32:54Speaker 1: like legit Devo. He coming and he's snatching your chain.
- 32:58Speaker 1: And unlike to leave who snatched the dude's chain and
- 33:00Speaker 1: threw it on the ground. Nah, this motherfucker gonna take
- 33:02Speaker 1: your chain and go to the sideline and put it
- 33:05Speaker 1: in the bag with all the other chains that he
- 33:07Speaker 1: done snatched. And you ain't even really gonna do nothing
- 33:10Speaker 1: about it because you don't want no problems with the
- 33:12Speaker 1: chain snatcher. Like James Harrison, he could have been a
- 33:15Speaker 1: good person to be the chain snatcher. So I'm telling you, man,
- 33:19Speaker 1: if there's a cat out there that's bite it, bite it,
- 33:20Speaker 1: that's truly got it in his soul, you can go
- 33:22Speaker 1: out there and you can make yourself a chain snatcher.
- 33:25Speaker 1: We need some more. Game ain't got no villains. Game
- 33:28Speaker 1: ain't got no real scary people. I mean, they scare me,
- 33:31Speaker 1: but you know what I'm saying. The game ain't really
- 33:33Speaker 1: got no real super duper scary dudes anymore. Somebody need
- 33:36Speaker 1: to come out there and make himself a chain snatcher.
- 33:40Speaker 1: But anyway, I made the point that he didn't really
- 33:42Speaker 1: look that much better, Jackson Dart, than Russell Wilson to
- 33:45Speaker 1: simply say, sometimes it's not about what it is, it's
- 33:48Speaker 1: about how it feels. And watching Russell Wilson be bad,
- 33:53Speaker 1: it felt demoralizing. Watching Jackson Dart be bad, it feels
- 33:58Speaker 1: like it could be better. Even if it's the same.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Football is back and so is your shot at big wins.

- 35:27Speaker 2: get to some stories from the weekend. Turns out Bad
- 35:29Speaker 2: Bunny will be headlining the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show
- 35:33Speaker 2: in San Francisco. Bo, what were your thoughts?
- 35:36Speaker 1: Okay, so I don't speak enough Spanish yet to be
- 35:40Speaker 1: out here listening to Bad Bunny and understanding what's going on.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I am always impressed by the fact that people can
- 35:47Speaker 1: go tour in these other countries where people don't even
- 35:50Speaker 1: speak their language and they be doing it all and
- 35:53Speaker 1: knowing all the words. Now, part of it, of course,
- 35:55Speaker 1: is that these other people are more sophisticated than we
- 35:57Speaker 1: are in the United States. But on the other hand,
- 35:59Speaker 1: they are able to like find a way to appreciate,
- 36:03Speaker 1: you know, languages that they don't understand. That's wild to
- 36:07Speaker 1: me because when people start speaking languages around me that
- 36:09Speaker 1: I don't understand, I be getting nervous trying to figure
- 36:12Speaker 1: out what the word for black is. Just in case.
- 36:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I don't care if we
- 36:17Speaker 1: talk about the nail shop, the Bronx, any of them places, man.
- 36:21Speaker 1: That's how it goes. So anyway, I don't know enough
- 36:24Speaker 1: of the language to say that I really understand it
- 36:27Speaker 1: can get down like with his music. It's not my speed,
- 36:30Speaker 1: but I know a superstar when I see one. And
- 36:32Speaker 1: that is 100% a superstar. So I think it's really
- 36:36Speaker 1: cool that he is doing the Super Bowl in part
- 36:39Speaker 1: because I think that very often Our concepts of race
- 36:47Speaker 1: and ethnicity and all of those things in this country
- 36:50Speaker 1: is binary. We think in the context of black and
- 36:52Speaker 1: white and we just forget our Latino brothers and sisters
- 36:55Speaker 1: are here in a lot of those discussions. Now, Latino
- 36:59Speaker 1: obviously is a very broad term, right? So I don't know.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I don't know how, for example, I don't know how
- 37:05Speaker 1: much Mexicans enjoy bad butt. I just literally do not know, right?
- 37:10Speaker 1: So I'm not saying that this is an act That
- 37:12Speaker 1: is for every Latino in America. I understand that there's
- 37:15Speaker 1: a measure of nuance there. However, I do think that
- 37:18Speaker 1: this is a choice for Latino, right? That is putting
- 37:23Speaker 1: them out front in terms of, you know, who you
- 37:26Speaker 1: are hoping to primarily entertain with this show. This is
- 37:29Speaker 1: much different than Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in Miami. That's
- 37:33Speaker 1: kind of a little something for everybody. If you know me.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Just playing.
- 37:38Speaker 2: But anyway.
- 37:39Speaker 1: This is different than that. So I thought it was
- 37:41Speaker 1: kind of cool that they did that. I will also say,
- 37:43Speaker 1: I looked this up before we started the show. I
- 37:47Speaker 1: don't think people have noticed this boy. The last 20
- 37:51Speaker 1: years of Super Bowl halftime have been a little bit
- 37:54Speaker 1: of a race war. We have not had just regular
- 37:58Speaker 1: old white people headline the Super Bowl halftime show since
- 38:03Speaker 1: Maroon 5 in February of 2019. Since then, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez,
- 38:11Speaker 1: The Weeknd, Dr. Dre and them. I mean, Eminem was
- 38:15Speaker 1: part of it, but you know what I mean. Rihanna, Usher,
- 38:18Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar, and now Bad Bunny. Jay-Z done took it back, boy. Okay,
- 38:24Speaker 1: but I did not notice this about the decade before.
- 38:28Speaker 1: The decade before... Beyonce played at the Superdome in February, 2013.
- 38:36Speaker 1: That's the Super Bowl where the lights went out. That's
- 38:38Speaker 1: also that Super Bowl where Beyonce like licked her finger
- 38:41Speaker 1: and did a little hip, woo, good gracious. Anyway, after that,
- 38:44Speaker 1: Bruno Mars, a little something for everybody. But then Katy Perry, Coldplay,
- 38:49Speaker 1: Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Maroon 5. They started off
- 38:52Speaker 1: the decade with The Who. Hell, after that, it was
- 38:55Speaker 1: the Black Eyed Peas. I don't know who that was for,
- 38:59Speaker 1: but it damn sure wasn't for me. But anyway, yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 1: So shout out, man. This is a cool little situation.
- 39:05Speaker 1: They got Bad Bunny out there. And hopefully by the
- 39:06Speaker 1: time that comes around, I'll know what the hell he
- 39:08Speaker 1: be out there talking about.
- 39:10Speaker 2: All right, let's look to college football this past weekend.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Alabama beat Georgia 24-21. Oregon beat Penn State in double overtime.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Ole Miss beat LSU 24-19. Bo, to you, what was
- 39:21Speaker 2: the most shocking result?
- 39:24Speaker 1: I don't know if any of them were shocking.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Know what?
- 39:31Speaker 1: I think it would be fair to say for me
- 39:33Speaker 1: that the Alabama Georgia game, I don't know if it
- 39:35Speaker 1: was shocking, but Alabama guys, they still got dudes. Right.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Like Georgia doesn't have dudes in the same way. And
- 39:44Speaker 1: even Alabama doesn't have dudes in the same way. But
- 39:47Speaker 1: I was the talent level at Alabama. I looked at
- 39:51Speaker 1: it and you know what it made me think? Oh, buddy,
- 39:53Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer, this win is actually going to make your
- 39:56Speaker 1: life harder. Not easier because now you've shown that you
- 40:00Speaker 1: could do it.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:03Speaker 1: So if you go out here and lose to Vanderbilt again,
- 40:05Speaker 1: Vanderbilt smoked somebody else over the weekend. That's what we
- 40:08Speaker 1: were talking about with Ellen and her husband. But, yeah, Georgia,
- 40:13Speaker 1: this is, it is, I think it becomes interesting. We
- 40:16Speaker 1: talked about this with Elle. They've got a nemesis that
- 40:20Speaker 1: they just can't get over. Just can't. Actually, who am
- 40:24Speaker 1: I kidding? This Ole Miss thing, like, there's a number
- 40:29Speaker 1: of reasons that I can never get on board with
- 40:31Speaker 1: them ever under any circumstance whatsoever, right? Lane is supposed
- 40:36Speaker 1: to lose those games. Like, I don't, I don't like
- 40:40Speaker 1: this thing and where we're supposed to take them seriously.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I don't. I don't.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Is it the old miss of it or the lane
- 40:46Speaker 2: of it to you?
- 40:47Speaker 5: Yes.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Yes. No, this is the old miss of it that
- 40:52Speaker 1: does legitimately bother me. And I don't think we talk
- 40:54Speaker 1: about this enough. Obviously, Lane Kiffin understands that being old
- 41:00Speaker 1: miss has some. It's a bit fraught. in terms of
- 41:04Speaker 1: your attempts to recruit and the likes, right? So I remember-
- 41:07Speaker 1: Some obstacles. Yeah, so their slogan used to be, I
- 41:10Speaker 1: don't know if they still do it, but like the
- 41:11Speaker 1: hashtag was come to the SIP, right? And so it's
- 41:14Speaker 1: laying on the sideline in a hoodie with the state
- 41:17Speaker 1: of Mississippi on it. And it's the SIP, the SIP,
- 41:20Speaker 1: the SIP. Nah, either y'all gonna be the Ole Miss
- 41:23Speaker 1: Rebels or you're not. You don't get to pretend that
- 41:27Speaker 1: this isn't what it is when you're trying to trick
- 41:29Speaker 1: the black people into coming to your school. Right. If
- 41:32Speaker 1: you want to be the Ole Miss Rebels, do that
- 41:34Speaker 1: shit all the time. Put on your loser, your great
- 41:37Speaker 1: loser suits. Right. Walk around with muskets or whatever it is.
- 41:41Speaker 1: You don't get to act like that's not who you
- 41:43Speaker 1: want to be when it's time for you to get players.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Be it all the time or don't be it ever.
- 41:49Speaker 2: So, yeah. Yeah.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I just I guess the shock is people really be
- 41:53Speaker 1: sending their kids to go to school. I just cannot
- 41:56Speaker 1: imagine telling my dad, I think I want to go
- 41:59Speaker 1: to Ole Miss. I can't. I could tell him I
- 42:04Speaker 1: was going to Duke first. By the way, how you
- 42:07Speaker 1: feeling about Ryan Kelly? You, LSU, LSU guys, how do you?
- 42:10Speaker 2: It's going to be a long, it's going to be
- 42:12Speaker 2: a long, it's going to be a long, it's been
- 42:14Speaker 2: a long journey. It's going to keep being a long journey.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Hey man, you can't, even if you eventually win a
- 42:20Speaker 1: national championship, it can't be fun when you actively hate
- 42:26Speaker 1: your coach, because you're not happy for him when any
- 42:31Speaker 1: of this happens, like you can't do that.
- 42:34Speaker 2: It is, it, it really is amazing because it is
- 42:38Speaker 2: so unlikable in so many ways that he plays an
- 42:41Speaker 2: unlikable style of football. They, they run an unlikable offense
- 42:47Speaker 2: and he's an unlikable person. So it is a, is
- 42:51Speaker 2: quite an unlikable experience.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Our guy, Van Lathan, hit Brian Kelly with an all-time
- 42:57Speaker 1: haymaker on the Ranger tailgate. And he says, everybody says
- 43:02Speaker 1: that any coach can win at Ole Miss. And coaches
- 43:05Speaker 1: win at Ole Miss. The last three have won there. Yeah, LSU, yeah, sorry. LSU. Saban,
- 43:12Speaker 1: Les Miles, and Ogeron. But they're wrong. Men win at LSU.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Damn!
- 43:23Speaker 1: Men win national championships at LSU. LSU, just so everybody understands,
- 43:30Speaker 1: is 4-1.
- 43:31Speaker 2: 4-1, 13th ranked team in the country, and this is
- 43:39Speaker 2: how the fan base feels.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Nobody's happy.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Nobody's happy. Alright, so speaking of shocking things, Indiana's quarterback,
- 43:46Speaker 2: they might have one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
- 43:49Speaker 2: He spoke after their win, after taking an intentional safety.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Take a listen. Yeah, there was, I mean, whatever it
- 43:57Speaker 2: takes to win the game. So, coach said, hey, take
- 44:00Speaker 2: a safety, run to the back of the.
- 44:01Speaker 9: End zone, and.
- 44:11Speaker 4: I didn't ever want to put our team in jeopardy
- 44:13Speaker 4: where maybe if I slid, you know, with one second left,
- 44:16Speaker 4: there could be some type of, you know, maybe some
- 44:19Speaker 4: quirk that would be called and we'd have to punt
- 44:20Speaker 4: it or do something on fourth down.
- 44:23Speaker 12: So, I just wanted to get out of the safety.
- 44:25Speaker 12: I know I probably, like, obviously shouldn't be saying this,
- 44:27Speaker 12: but I know I probably... cook people's spreads and stuff
- 44:30Speaker 12: like that. And I really apologize for that. However, in
- 44:34Speaker 12: that moment, my goal was to win the game. At
- 44:37Speaker 12: that point, I 0-0.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Number one, I shouldn't be saying this.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Stop.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Right there. Right there. Right there. Right there. You had
- 44:44Speaker 1: a great out. That's what we call it.
- 44:45Speaker 10: Out.
- 44:46Speaker 1: You had an out. Right there.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Don't.
- 44:49Speaker 1: You remember when... Alabama was playing against Oklahoma when Kyler
- 44:53Speaker 1: Murray was there in a semifinal game and Quentin Williams
- 44:55Speaker 1: was about to start talking about Kyler Murray and caught
- 44:57Speaker 1: himself in the middle and was.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Like, uh-uh.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Uh-uh.
- 45:01Speaker 4: Right?
- 45:01Speaker 2: It was before the game. He started shaking his head.
- 45:05Speaker 1: He realized he was about to mess up the money
- 45:07Speaker 1: and was like, no, no, no. We're not doing that.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I'm telling you, all you boys, don't make any acknowledgement
- 45:12Speaker 1: to any of the gambling in public ever. I'm assuming
- 45:15Speaker 1: that he knows about this because they was blowing up
- 45:17Speaker 1: his mentions. Don't. Guys, leave it be. And don't don't
- 45:20Speaker 1: don't acknowledge these people. You can't give them anything. You
- 45:24Speaker 1: can't do that. Number one. Number two, bra on your horizons.
- 45:27Speaker 1: You keep talking about the people you messed it up for.
- 45:29Speaker 1: How about the people you made winners? Like everybody talks
- 45:31Speaker 1: about the bad beat. What about the good win? Right.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Like for somebody, them bad beats be like pennies from heaven.
- 45:38Speaker 1: You don't think about it like that, do you?
- 45:42Speaker 2: All right, moving over to the concerts, you know, people
- 45:44Speaker 2: have noticed throughout the country that concerts keep getting more
- 45:47Speaker 2: and more expensive. That doesn't seem to be a problem
- 45:50Speaker 2: to everyone, including the Live Nation CEO. Let's take a listen.
- 45:53Speaker 8: For you, music is a better business, though, than selling
- 45:55Speaker 8: tickets for sports, I assume.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yes, 100%. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:59Speaker 10: I mean, you know, I think music has been underappreciated.
- 46:04Speaker 10: You know, I always joke, sports, it's like a badge
- 46:07Speaker 10: of honor to spend 70 grand for a Knicks courtside.
- 46:11Speaker 10: They beat me up if we charge $ 800 for Beyonce, right?
- 46:14Speaker 10: So it's a real, it's a very under, we have
- 46:17Speaker 10: a lot of runway left, right?
- 46:19Speaker 2: So when you read about.
- 46:19Speaker 8: The ticket prices going up, it's still average concert price
- 46:23Speaker 8: is $ 72. Try going to a Laker game for that,
- 46:26Speaker 8: and there's 80 of them or whatever the hell. The
- 46:28Speaker 8: concert is underpriced, has been for a long time.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Okay, this is the problem that cats like this have
- 46:37Speaker 1: in these moments. Because I will say that I thought
- 46:40Speaker 1: that he presented a pretty compelling argument. If you were
- 46:44Speaker 1: going to say that concert tickets are underpriced, okay? It
- 46:51Speaker 1: don't feel that way. You're not going to convince anybody
- 46:56Speaker 1: that they're underpriced. You can explain that you are providing
- 47:00Speaker 1: value at the number or whatever it is, right? But
- 47:04Speaker 1: you also need to understand this. There is no ticket
- 47:09Speaker 1: at any concert that is better than a courtside seat.
- 47:15Speaker 6: Of course.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And it is not a badge of honor. We talk
- 47:19Speaker 1: about those prices like they're crazy also. And do you
- 47:23Speaker 1: notice who sits for the courtside seats at those games?
- 47:26Speaker 1: It's only super duper rich people, right? We acknowledge the
- 47:31Speaker 1: courtside seat as being in this untouchable air of things.
- 47:37Speaker 1: The concert ticket is not that, right? And I'll say this,
- 47:41Speaker 1: me personally. I am good to put some bread on
- 47:46Speaker 1: a very good concert ticket. Maybe part of it is
- 47:50Speaker 1: because I live in New York City now or whatever,
- 47:52Speaker 1: but I've even found this for me in other places,
- 47:54Speaker 1: but My seats are creeping farther and farther back. And
- 47:59Speaker 1: it's because these tickets cost too much money. I mean,
- 48:03Speaker 1: the sports tickets, too. I was up there in the
- 48:05Speaker 1: nosebleeds at the U.S. Open for $ 300 for.
- 48:07Speaker 2: The third round. It is a very American concept to
- 48:12Speaker 2: talk like we talk about how expensive these tickets get
- 48:16Speaker 2: as these resale markets as they're a good thing.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Right.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Oh, like, oh, look, these tickets are selling for X
- 48:23Speaker 2: on the secondary market. That's an American. It's a very American. Yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I would ask this man this where he says the
- 48:29Speaker 1: average price of a ticket is this and that I
- 48:30Speaker 1: die and everything else. Now, compare it is to Europe.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Where you don't have the resale game dominating as it
- 48:37Speaker 1: does here, you don't have all the fees. than everybody
- 48:40Speaker 1: because i was we talk about the average concert ticket
- 48:43Speaker 1: is 72 what are the fees on that is that
- 48:45Speaker 1: what it is after fees because there's no way in
- 48:46Speaker 1: the world that you're going to tell me the average
- 48:48Speaker 1: concert ticket right now after all the fees and everything
- 48:50Speaker 1: else is i.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Mean it is cheaper for the on these mega tourists
- 48:55Speaker 2: for people to fly to iceland or portugal or to
- 48:58Speaker 2: spain to go see you know these people are touring
- 49:02Speaker 2: internationally and for you know Beyonce's, the Coldplay's, obviously when
- 49:06Speaker 2: Taylor Swift's tours again. It's now cheaper to go abroad.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Including the ticket! In some cases.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it is it has lost the plot and finally
- 49:20Speaker 2: the Jimmy Kimmel situation seems to have resolved going back
- 49:24Speaker 2: on the air on Tuesday even though Nexstar and Sinclair
- 49:26Speaker 2: local stations did not have him on the air, but
- 49:30Speaker 2: those local stations are now airing Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel. Though, obviously,
- 49:35Speaker 2: you know, this is not how we thought the situation
- 49:37Speaker 2: was going to resolve itself. How surprised were you that
- 49:41Speaker 2: this is what happened?
- 49:43Speaker 1: I did not... I didn't think that Kimmel would come back. Like,
- 49:49Speaker 1: my thought about immediately saying that it's over there was
- 49:52Speaker 1: I thought that Kimmel was going to receive all of
- 49:54Speaker 1: this as such a violation of trust. Like, how could
- 49:56Speaker 1: you ever feel comfortable? Going back on the air, me personally, right?
- 50:00Speaker 1: And being sincere in your work, knowing that they're not
- 50:03Speaker 1: going to back you up, even if you could justify
- 50:06Speaker 1: them not backing him up. I didn't think that there
- 50:08Speaker 1: would be any chance that he would come back. So
- 50:10Speaker 1: by the time we put that out, it was incorrect.
- 50:15Speaker 2: We had a good four hours.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a good, I tell you, there was
- 50:19Speaker 1: never a moment where I might have been wrong, but
- 50:20Speaker 1: I didn't think I was going to be wrong that fast, right?
- 50:23Speaker 1: It never, that never dawned on me, but apparently part
- 50:25Speaker 1: of what happened was ABC reminded everybody, we've got football
- 50:31Speaker 1: and we're going to have the Super Bowl and you're
- 50:33Speaker 1: not going to get it.
- 50:35Speaker 10: Oh!
- 50:36Speaker 2: We're done.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Right. So maybe they feel like they did all they
- 50:39Speaker 1: had to do to convince the people that they wanted
- 50:41Speaker 1: to convince that they was on the right side. Right.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Like maybe they did what was necessary to convince on
- 50:47Speaker 1: that front.
- 50:48Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I just don't. The question to me, and I guess
- 50:53Speaker 1: we'll see more on what the ultimate answer for this
- 50:57Speaker 1: is as we go, but is the real moral of
- 50:59Speaker 1: the story that they overplayed their hand? those who believe
- 51:04Speaker 1: that it was the place of the government to tell
- 51:06Speaker 1: a company to shut down something that they were doing.
- 51:10Speaker 1: And then it happens.
- 51:11Speaker 5: Right.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Did they overestimate how much pull they truly had on that? Now,
- 51:16Speaker 1: while I say that, on the other hand, it's looking
- 51:20Speaker 1: like they're throwing people in jail for not the greatest
- 51:22Speaker 1: reasons in the world. So maybe I need to be
- 51:25Speaker 1: worried a little bit less about Jimmy Kimmel than I
- 51:27Speaker 1: need to be worried about everybody else.
- 51:34Speaker 2: All right, the voicemail line's open. A lot of good ones.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Here's our first.
- 51:39Speaker 5: Hey, Bomani, long-time listener. I got out of church, checked
- 51:44Speaker 5: my notifications, and I saw that Sam Pittman has been
- 51:47Speaker 5: fired from Arkansas and that they have promoted Bobby Petrino
- 51:52Speaker 5: to interim head coach. And if you have not covered
- 51:56Speaker 5: this as a part of your morning segment, I will
- 51:59Speaker 5: be so disappointed. So, I'd love to hear you just
- 52:03Speaker 5: talk about one of the greatest scandals in sports history
- 52:06Speaker 5: for those younger that don't know about it. I think
- 52:09Speaker 5: our audience in the world would be better for it.
- 52:11Speaker 11: Thanks, man.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Have a good one.
- 52:13Speaker 2: All right.
- 52:13Speaker 1: So for those of you who don't know this, Bobby
- 52:16Speaker 1: Petrino is a legendarily sleazy sort of dude. And the
- 52:24Speaker 1: reputation for his sleaze started when He was an offensive
- 52:29Speaker 1: coordinator at this time for, okay, no. He had been
- 52:33Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator at Auburn, and then he went and
- 52:36Speaker 1: took the job at Louisville. And toward the end of
- 52:39Speaker 1: the 03 season, the Auburn Boosters, as is their want,
- 52:42Speaker 1: were getting a little bit anxious with Tommy Tuberville and
- 52:46Speaker 1: jumped on the plane to go holler at Bobby Petrino
- 52:48Speaker 1: about maybe taking the job while the job was still filled. Okay.
- 52:52Speaker 1: He worked that job at Louisville, was very good. When
- 52:58Speaker 1: it took the head coaching job with the Falcons, where
- 53:01Speaker 1: he thought his quarterback was going to be Michael Vick,
- 53:03Speaker 1: and instead his quarterback turned out to be assumed to
- 53:06Speaker 1: be a convicted felon, and his quarterback was actually Joey Harrington.
- 53:10Speaker 1: and it did not go well. He took the job
- 53:13Speaker 1: at Arkansas in the middle of the football season, didn't
- 53:15Speaker 1: say a word to anybody, and just left notes in
- 53:17Speaker 1: the players' lockers. He gets to Arkansas, where he does
- 53:20Speaker 1: an excellent job, and he was out one day riding
- 53:24Speaker 1: a motorcycle, and he was thrown from his motorcycle and
- 53:28Speaker 1: thrown into a ditch where he had broken bones in
- 53:31Speaker 1: his neck, among other things. The thing was, he was
- 53:37Speaker 1: on the motorcycle with a woman, who wasn't his wife,
- 53:43Speaker 1: who worked in the athletic department. And so he was
- 53:47Speaker 1: ultimately fired for having the improper relationship with the young lady.
- 53:51Speaker 1: But where it became interesting is Bobby Petrino was face
- 53:55Speaker 1: first in a ditch with broken bones in his neck
- 54:00Speaker 1: and immediately began to cook up a coverup for what
- 54:06Speaker 1: had happened and arrange for a phone call to be
- 54:09Speaker 1: made to his homeboy in the state troopers to come
- 54:13Speaker 1: and get him and take care of everything. And he
- 54:16Speaker 1: only got caught because a good Samaritan saw his motorcycle,
- 54:22Speaker 1: called it in, read off the license plate number, at
- 54:25Speaker 1: which point they figured out it was Bobby Petrino. But
- 54:28Speaker 1: in a ditch with a broken neck, he immediately began
- 54:34Speaker 1: to cook up lies. And it almost worked. Do you
- 54:38Speaker 1: realize what a dedicated liar you have to be in
- 54:42Speaker 1: that moment to where your first concern is not just
- 54:45Speaker 1: get somebody here as soon as possible. It's hold on.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Not just for me, for the person who also got
- 54:51Speaker 2: thrown off from the motorcycle as well.
- 54:53Speaker 1: From time to time, I forget that she was also
- 54:55Speaker 1: thrown off from the motorcycle. In fact, I'm assuming she
- 54:57Speaker 1: was okay. But, you know, there's different conspiracy theories that
- 55:01Speaker 1: he didn't get thrown off from the motorcycle. He actually
- 55:02Speaker 1: got beat up or whatever. No, no, no. when he
- 55:05Speaker 1: got thrown from this motorcycle. And he did the all-time
- 55:07Speaker 1: legendary press conference with the neck brace and the Sugar
- 55:10Speaker 1: Bowl cap to remind them that Bobby Petrino had gotten
- 55:14Speaker 1: them to the Sugar Bowl.
- 55:16Speaker 2: You know when you just have to lead with a
- 55:18Speaker 2: college football coach as sleazy? That's a really special character. Yes.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Now, the thing that I think has been interesting about him, though, was.
- 55:28Speaker 1: After he got fired at Arkansas, he got a job
- 55:30Speaker 1: coaching at Western Kentucky. Like he keeps like finding his
- 55:34Speaker 1: way back. But lately his new bag has been going
- 55:37Speaker 1: to these places where the coach is on the hot seat.
- 55:41Speaker 1: And so maybe he could slide his way in. So
- 55:43Speaker 1: like he went he went to Western Kentucky for a
- 55:45Speaker 1: year and then he went back to Louisville because as
- 55:48Speaker 1: much as people don't fuck with him, he is really
- 55:50Speaker 1: good at it. So we have to go get that
- 55:51Speaker 1: old thing back. Right. Arkansas. He went to when Jimbo
- 55:54Speaker 1: was on the hot seat at Texas A & M.
- 55:56Speaker 1: He took the OC job there because he thought he
- 55:58Speaker 1: could slide in. Didn't work. Peeps your day.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Um.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Then he gets back to Arkansas where Sam Pittman was
- 56:06Speaker 1: on the hot seat. And now Sam Pittman is gone
- 56:09Speaker 1: and he slides in as interim coach. And I know
- 56:12Speaker 1: he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he can get in
- 56:17Speaker 1: and he can keep this job. And he might.
- 56:24Speaker 2: It's certainly on the board.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Look, man, you give Bob Petrino enough money to get
- 56:27Speaker 1: some players and he can be a problem.
- 56:32Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 56:33Speaker 3: Bo man, what's going on? Big Tim from the DMV.
- 56:38Speaker 3: A couple of years ago, you and Spencer did an
- 56:42Speaker 3: episode where y'all basically did like a retrospective of like
- 56:47Speaker 3: Stevie Wonder. Like basically, hey, this is why Stevie Wonder
- 56:51Speaker 3: is amazing. And it's honestly one of my favorite episodes
- 56:55Speaker 3: that you've ever done. I know you're a Prince guy
- 56:59Speaker 3: just like I am. He is my favorite artist of
- 57:02Speaker 3: all time. So I guess my first question would be,
- 57:06Speaker 3: would you ever do one or can you do one
- 57:09Speaker 3: with Prince? That'd be, like, amazing. And then my second
- 57:14Speaker 3: question would be, is there, like, um a quintessential song
- 57:19Speaker 3: that like you go and say like i cool this
- 57:23Speaker 3: is the song that you play for someone if you're
- 57:26Speaker 3: trying to you know explain how amazing prince is um
- 57:31Speaker 3: like the one i always play is the door because
- 57:34Speaker 3: i feel like like nobody has ever explained love in
- 57:38Speaker 3: that way or whatever like just the way that he
- 57:40Speaker 3: explains it um that's the one that i'll explain be
- 57:43Speaker 3: like nah you can't get down with this i don't
- 57:45Speaker 3: know if you can get down Do you have one?
- 57:48Speaker 3: Appreciate it, man. Y'all have a good day.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Hey, man, I appreciate it. And I think the Stevie
- 57:56Speaker 1: Wonder episode of this podcast is the one that is
- 57:59Speaker 1: more people's number one than any other, right? Like if
- 58:02Speaker 1: they just have an episode that they can pull out
- 58:03Speaker 1: the air, it is that one. The thing about it was,
- 58:06Speaker 1: and why I haven't tried to redo that, is... What
- 58:11Speaker 1: really made that go was a very particular energy, excitement
- 58:15Speaker 1: and enthusiasm that we had in that moment in what
- 58:18Speaker 1: we were talking about. I don't know. It's an impossible
- 58:23Speaker 1: act to follow, right? Like, I don't know how to
- 58:25Speaker 1: I don't know if you can recreate it because it
- 58:26Speaker 1: wasn't really structured. And so when I look back on this, like, man,
- 58:29Speaker 1: I'd like to do something like that, perhaps with a
- 58:30Speaker 1: little bit of structure. And then with Prince, I'd be
- 58:32Speaker 1: out here for like four hours. trying to get it straight.
- 58:35Speaker 1: But I don't even think our, I don't even know
- 58:38Speaker 1: if our plan that show was to talk about Stevie
- 58:40Speaker 1: the whole time. Like I can't remember exactly how it
- 58:42Speaker 1: came together, but yeah, it was a hoot. It was
- 58:45Speaker 1: a whole lot of fun. And so, yes, I would
- 58:48Speaker 1: thought about doing similar things with similar artists. I think
- 58:52Speaker 1: I can go ahead and tell people this, Ryan, that
- 58:54Speaker 1: for 2026, we are planning on a series on the
- 58:58Speaker 1: rap albums of the greatest year in the history of rap.
- 59:01Speaker 2: Yeah. 1996.
- 59:02Speaker 1: And so we're going to we're going to put that together. But,
- 59:04Speaker 1: you know, we did the one for 94. We want
- 59:06Speaker 1: this to be a little different. And we learned what
- 59:08Speaker 1: we did the last time to make it a little structured.
- 59:10Speaker 1: and a little better. So similar things, yeah, have been
- 59:13Speaker 1: on my mind. Now, the Prince song to explain it
- 59:17Speaker 1: for me is tricky because Prince goes into like 18
- 59:20Speaker 1: different directions. What I would say, though, is I think
- 59:23Speaker 1: that Prince's greatest all-purpose song is Little Red Corvette. I
- 59:27Speaker 1: think that's the one that you're most likely to be
- 59:29Speaker 1: able to throw off to somebody, and they're going to
- 59:32Speaker 1: get it no matter what point they start on. The
- 59:35Speaker 1: most only Prince could do this is Too Soft. It's
- 59:39Speaker 1: When Doves Cry, which to me is just lights out,
- 59:42Speaker 1: but I wonder how easy it is for somebody to
- 59:45Speaker 1: immediately digest in this day and age, though it was
- 59:48Speaker 1: the number one pop single when it came out. And
- 59:49Speaker 1: the other one, obviously, is If I Was Your Girlfriend,
- 59:52Speaker 1: which is like, those are two songs that Prince has
- 59:54Speaker 1: got more songs that nobody can cover. Like, you can
- 59:58Speaker 1: try that if you want to, but it's not going
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: to work. Like, you've got the, like, nothing compares to
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: you and the other joints that are there. Yes, other
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: people can go ahead and do this. But there is
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: a wing of those that's like, all you guys need
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: to leave this one alone. Genuine, all people have the
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: nerve to try to redo with Duff's, because I can't
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: believe Prince cleared it. Um, You can't, you're not doing that.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: TLC tried to do it if I was your girlfriend.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: The audacity. You guys ain't built for this. Like, that
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: is not a bunny slope for you to try. But yeah,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I guess we thought you were doing something on Prince.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: It's just a matter of figuring out exactly how.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
- 1:00:33Speaker 11: Hey, Bomani. And in Kansas City, Missouri, favorite Uber driver.
- 1:00:40Speaker 11: Just calling in. Shout out to all the Tidewater fans.
- 1:00:47Speaker 13: References my pops grew up in Norfolk well technically Suffolk
- 1:00:52Speaker 13: Virginia used to be called Pewsville and he went to
- 1:00:56Speaker 13: Tidewater Community College back in the day unfortunately passed away
- 1:01:00Speaker 13: shout out to him.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: But uh yeah.
- 1:01:04Speaker 11: Do you have a favorite non-fiction book that you would
- 1:01:09Speaker 11: recommend and when are you going to bring back your
- 1:01:12Speaker 11: book club thank you love the show by money my
- 1:01:15Speaker 11: brother and I Faithfully listening to you all. And just
- 1:01:19Speaker 11: looking forward to seeing the.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Evolution of your show. All right.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Take care.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: All right. Appreciate it, brother. Book Club is a possibility
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: for the summer. We've planted on things. We'll see how
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: that goes. Nonfiction books. The one that jumps to the
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: top of my mind is a bunch, obviously. But the
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: one that I think for this audience is probably the
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: way to go. And I think we did this in
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: the book club here. But it's fine. Friday Night Lights.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Buzz Bissinger. Possibly the best book I've ever read. Like,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: it's not the movie. It's closer. I mean, it's closer
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: to the movie. It's not the TV show. It is incredible. Like,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I can't say enough. That one there. Like, you know, obviously,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: it's like Fire Next Time, James Baldwin, Between the World
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: and Me, Ta-Nehisi Coates. But you really can't lose your
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Friday Night Lights. If you have not read it and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: you only know it as a pop culture phenomenon on screen,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: trust me. Read it.
- 1:02:08Speaker 11: Promise.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Especially people who are not from Texas. Yes. It's like
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: people who, like, want to learn like talk about like
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: places that feel like, like the world building and that
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: is almost similar to a fiction book. Yes. But it
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: is truly of understanding the characters and also like in
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: a way what football used to be. Right.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: I think that, I think Friday Night Live.
- 1:02:33Speaker 11: Is a perfect.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: There's also an amazing trick, whether it be a filmmaker
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: or an author of someone who, however, uh, way manages
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: to make people feel perfectly comfortable being straight out about
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: how racist they really are. It is amazing how comfortably
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: racist everybody that he talked to was. It is shocking
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: how comfortably racist they were in that. And it is
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: an important part of the story. It tells a lot.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: But ladies and gentlemen, Thanks so much for joining us
