- 1:42Speaker 5: A little bit of a slow drive for some of
- 1:44Speaker 5: us coming in this morning, there is construction eastbound on
- 1:47Speaker 5: I sixty four. Not too terrible of a delay. I
- 1:50Speaker 5: was talking to one of my coworkers who was I
- 1:53Speaker 5: delayed about fifteen minutes or so coming in this morning,
- 1:55Speaker 5: talking to one of my coworkers who just came in
- 1:57Speaker 5: and said, it wasn't too bad there at all, but
- 1:59Speaker 5: just so you know, you could have a little bit
- 2:01Speaker 5: of delay because it is construction season now and Lord
- 2:04Speaker 5: knows we need it here in West Virginia. Coming up
- 2:06Speaker 5: a little bit later, on. Rick Havaner from Charleston Urban
- 2:09Speaker 5: Works is going to be stopping by. You may have
- 2:11Speaker 5: seen last week front page story in the Gazette mail
- 2:14Speaker 5: about a new grocery store that's going in on the
- 2:16Speaker 5: east end of Charleston, something that is definitely has been
- 2:19Speaker 5: needed for some time. We'll talk to Rick about that,
- 2:21Speaker 5: plus some other big things. We're just a couple of
- 2:23Speaker 5: weeks away from Foam with the Dome, which is a
- 2:26Speaker 5: big event that the Charleston Urban Works folks do, so
- 2:29Speaker 5: we'll talk to Rick about that. Plus Rob Real from
- 2:31Speaker 5: her sister station ninety six to one KWS will be
- 2:34Speaker 5: stopping by. You know, we're always doing stuff. Rob loves
- 2:36Speaker 5: to do stuff for the community and it's not even
- 2:39Speaker 5: court ordered. That's the cool thing about it. He just
- 2:41Speaker 5: does it out of the goodness of his heart. And
- 2:43Speaker 5: this is one of those events that we call up
- 2:45Speaker 5: on our listeners to help us outs. As you may
- 2:49Speaker 5: very well know, a lot of kids and school is
- 2:52Speaker 5: out now out for kids in Kanawha County. I know
- 2:54Speaker 5: it's out of Putnam County. I think later in the
- 2:55Speaker 5: week a lot of kids when they go home for summer,
- 2:59Speaker 5: they they don't have a lot of food and there
- 3:02Speaker 5: are various organizations we talked to Doug Irwin from the
- 3:05Speaker 5: Backpack Buddies program yesterday that try to help out in
- 3:08Speaker 5: that situation. But there's always more help needed to make
- 3:10Speaker 5: sure that kids have something to eat during the summer months.
- 3:13Speaker 5: So we're doing a thing along with the folks at
- 3:16Speaker 5: Union Mission on Thursday that we call drop your Snacks,
- 3:19Speaker 5: And as we've done these things in the past, we
- 3:21Speaker 5: clear off our parking lot at eleven eleven Virginia Street
- 3:24Speaker 5: East and Charleston and we ask you, the greatest listeners
- 3:26Speaker 5: in the world, starting at seven am going all the
- 3:29Speaker 5: way to six pm on Thursday, just to drop off
- 3:31Speaker 5: some non perishable food items. Now I've got a list
- 3:34Speaker 5: of what we're looking for. If you can drop off
- 3:36Speaker 5: a box of cereal or you can drop off a
- 3:38Speaker 5: box of a box of cereal. Either, we'll be fine
- 3:42Speaker 5: and we'll talk to Rob. This is kind of his baby,
- 3:44Speaker 5: and all of our stations will be involved in it.
- 3:46Speaker 5: But robal joined us coming up about that a little
- 3:48Speaker 5: bit later on. Plus, your calls and texts are always welcome.

- 3:56Speaker 5: zero four nine three five five zero zero eight. He
- 3:59Speaker 5: hasn't been on for a while, how but he joins
- 4:00Speaker 5: us now our good friend Walt Hall, Republican delegate from
- 4:04Speaker 5: the fifty eighth How you doing, sir, doing well?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Dave?
- 4:07Speaker 5: Why are you welcome to our new home. Man, this
- 4:09Speaker 5: is a nice very professional I noticed you were limping
- 4:13Speaker 5: a little bit going down the steps. You're telling me
- 4:14Speaker 5: you've got some knee issues. All those years of being
- 4:16Speaker 5: a stellar athlete, Man, it caught up with It does
- 4:21Speaker 5: catch up with you when you get a little bit
- 4:22Speaker 5: of age on us.
- 4:24Speaker 6: Think twice playing hoops down Highland Elementary on Canal Terrace,
- 4:28Speaker 6: on that concrete court, that it has caught up.
- 4:31Speaker 5: But today you're thinking, well, maybe I should have maybe
- 4:35Speaker 5: not played as much or something past the court that day. Yes,
- 4:39Speaker 5: just for one day, we got some things in the community.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Because I know you're very involved with your foundation. We're
- 4:44Speaker 5: going to get to that a little bit later on,
- 4:45Speaker 5: but I want to first talk about the session. It
- 4:49Speaker 5: just end, of course, there's a little later ending to
- 4:51Speaker 5: the session because it was a gubernatorial year, and so
- 4:56Speaker 5: let's talk about session overall you your thoughts on the
- 4:59Speaker 5: session overall well.
- 5:01Speaker 6: On the House of Delegates. First of all, Dave, thanks
- 5:03Speaker 6: for the opportunity to talk to you today. As you know,
- 5:08Speaker 6: not here as much as talk about the politics of
- 5:10Speaker 6: the leg.
- 5:12Speaker 5: But I would be remiss if I didn't.
- 5:14Speaker 6: As overall, well, you know, I'm a people person, so
- 5:17Speaker 6: I'm here talk about people and community. And with that said,
- 5:21Speaker 6: on the House of Delegate side, we had a new
- 5:23Speaker 6: format that was implemented with standing committees and subcommittees. For
- 5:30Speaker 6: me personally, I was very happy with the results of
- 5:33Speaker 6: those committees and the product that was presented before us.
- 5:37Speaker 6: On the House side, you know, it transfers over to
- 5:40Speaker 6: the Senate. At the end of the day, we had
- 5:43Speaker 6: two hundred and forty nine bills past legislation, with one
- 5:47Speaker 6: hundred and fifty two of those on the House, and
- 5:51Speaker 6: twenty three hundred bills were presented to the West Virginia
- 5:55Speaker 6: legislation in twenty I don't think.
- 5:57Speaker 5: That people realize and you probably didn't you got there either,
- 6:01Speaker 5: how many bills are actually out there.
- 6:05Speaker 6: It's you would think that kind of holds us back
- 6:09Speaker 6: from producing quality. I'm more of a delegate that presents
- 6:16Speaker 6: three or four bill opportunities as I hear from my
- 6:19Speaker 6: constituents and then I look to pass two or three
- 6:24Speaker 6: bills during my session, and I was proud to get
- 6:26Speaker 6: across the finish line the Dementia Services Director position for
- 6:30Speaker 6: the State of West Virginia. That bill did pass both bodies,
- 6:35Speaker 6: It went to the Governor's office and it will go
- 6:37Speaker 6: into effect into law. What exactly it's a Dementia Services
- 6:42Speaker 6: Director State of West Virginia. There's twenty eight other states
- 6:45Speaker 6: that has this position within their state government. The State
- 6:49Speaker 6: of West Virginia did not. And starting July first, we
- 6:53Speaker 6: will have a go to person and department to answer
- 6:59Speaker 6: and address all constituent services for families living with dementia
- 7:05Speaker 6: or other dementia illnesses.
- 7:07Speaker 5: And this has been something that I know that has
- 7:11Speaker 5: been very near and dear to your heart. As we'll
- 7:13Speaker 5: charge to transition away from politics. Is things having to
- 7:17Speaker 5: do with dementia. It does.
- 7:19Speaker 6: I am trained as a community educator for the Alzheimer's Association.
- 7:24Speaker 6: For the past twelve years, co chaired Dementia Friendly Saint Albans.
- 7:31Speaker 6: We are the only community in the state to be
- 7:33Speaker 6: recognized as a dementia friendly community. And with that said,
- 7:38Speaker 6: in the last two years ago we passed a bill
- 7:41Speaker 6: to form a task force. We formulated nineteen volunteers from
- 7:46Speaker 6: across the state to address the needs of families dealing
- 7:50Speaker 6: with dementia. And the one recommendation was that the state
- 7:55Speaker 6: of West Virginia, with the high numbers that we have,
- 7:58Speaker 6: needed a department, needed an individual for families to go
- 8:02Speaker 6: to with their questions. One recommendation, another law passed. So
- 8:08Speaker 6: in two years I've been blessed to follow the Alzheimer's
- 8:12Speaker 6: Association's lead and get two bills passed in dealing with
- 8:17Speaker 6: this illness.
- 8:19Speaker 5: You heard any word about a special session?
- 8:22Speaker 6: I have, there's a lot of Yesterday actually, I was
- 8:25Speaker 6: on the phone with several people. They had heard it
- 8:27Speaker 6: was going to be in July. Now I hear it
- 8:30Speaker 6: could be in September. So I love the Governor's approach
- 8:37Speaker 6: that the issues before us and him for calling special session.
- 8:42Speaker 6: I think relays or relates into pei A and some
- 8:46Speaker 6: insurance issues. And we have interims in the end of
- 8:51Speaker 6: June at the Stonewall Resort, and that will be a
- 8:54Speaker 6: topic of discussion to see if we can come to
- 8:58Speaker 6: a calming ground and solutions that would be beneficial to
- 9:03Speaker 6: the all of our policy holders. So I think it's
- 9:08Speaker 6: predicated on what comes out of our interims in June.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Yeah, because you can't. The code says. We talked about
- 9:14Speaker 5: this a little bit yesterday. Yeah, special sessions have to
- 9:16Speaker 5: be held in the capital city. You can have interims
- 9:19Speaker 5: as you frequently do around the state, but the actual
- 9:22Speaker 5: special sessions have to be done in Charleston. So you
- 9:24Speaker 5: couldn't do that. And when you're at your conference at Stonewall,
- 9:27Speaker 5: that is correct, make your plans, which can't actually do
- 9:30Speaker 5: it there.
- 9:30Speaker 6: It's sort of like a summer camp. You know, we're
- 9:34Speaker 6: going to one way to put one way to put
- 9:36Speaker 6: it in a positive way, right, But we're going to
- 9:39Speaker 6: Stonewall to discuss the topic and then we can come
- 9:44Speaker 6: back to the capital for the special session or next
- 9:47Speaker 6: interims to see what directs we want to go talk.

- 10:02Speaker 5: Visit Pinnacle Corp. Dot net because what you don't know
- 10:04Speaker 5: can hurt you. All right, let's put the politics aside
- 10:07Speaker 5: and let's talk about some other things you're involved with.
- 10:09Speaker 5: You're always involved in things going on in the community
- 10:11Speaker 5: with Explain your foundation for people that don't know about it.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Oh, yes, sure, thank you for the opportunity. The two
- 10:16Speaker 6: five one seven seven Foundation is our city zip code
- 10:21Speaker 6: in the city. It's a community based organization that primarily
- 10:25Speaker 6: dedicated to the youth of Saint Aubans and the surrounding areas.
- 10:29Speaker 6: It was established in two thousand and four. It employees
- 10:34Speaker 6: the motto help us, help You. We provide funding to
- 10:38Speaker 6: youth groups based on their community service effort. We organize
- 10:43Speaker 6: the community service event. In the middle of April, we
- 10:47Speaker 6: did a community citywide cleanup. I present ten dollars per person.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Thirty people show up for your soccer team, you get
- 10:58Speaker 6: three hundred dollars donation for three hours of community service.
- 11:02Speaker 6: We had one hundred and seventeen participants with seven youth
- 11:05Speaker 6: groups at our local church on a Corkle Avenue at
- 11:08Speaker 6: Grace Baptist and served hot dogs and water and just
- 11:12Speaker 6: had a wonderful day and still in pride in our
- 11:16Speaker 6: youth and hopes that in the future they'll look at
- 11:20Speaker 6: a cleaner community and put pride into what they're doing.
- 11:24Speaker 5: So it was great. I mean, I know this is
- 11:26Speaker 5: something that you've been very, very passionate about long before
- 11:29Speaker 5: you ever got it, because you and I have known
- 11:30Speaker 5: each other for a number of years, long before you
- 11:32Speaker 5: ever got into politics. This is something that you have
- 11:36Speaker 5: been a big part of you with your foundation and
- 11:38Speaker 5: other things that you've done in the community.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Well, I am the foundation. When my mother passed away,
- 11:45Speaker 6: I wanted to create a foundation to honor her heart.
- 11:51Speaker 6: My mother was a wonderful Christian woman who just led
- 11:54Speaker 6: by example, and her grassroots program at the time was
- 12:00Speaker 6: to volunteer at the ball field, the gymnasium, the church,
- 12:03Speaker 6: the community, didn't matter. You're not giving a handout, but
- 12:08Speaker 6: a hand up to help others. And so now I
- 12:11Speaker 6: have a scholarship that I presented three weeks ago at
- 12:14Speaker 6: Saint Auban's High School to honor my mother and my father.
- 12:18Speaker 6: My father passed two years ago, and then I had
- 12:21Speaker 6: one to present to a young lady to honor my
- 12:25Speaker 6: sister who also passed, who was on that nineteen seventy
- 12:28Speaker 6: five Saint Aubans State championship track team that was just
- 12:31Speaker 6: recently honored at the state championship meet. And that's how
- 12:36Speaker 6: the foundation kind of got off the ground. And now
- 12:41Speaker 6: we've parlayed that into community service and our golf tournament.
- 12:47Speaker 6: I'll get into how we raised the money. Is the
- 12:49Speaker 6: August the ninth Saturday at Big Ben two person golf Scramble,
- 12:54Speaker 6: twenty second year, will be celebrating this year.
- 12:56Speaker 5: And we'll have you on as we get a little
- 12:58Speaker 5: bit closer to talk talk about that. But give us
- 13:02Speaker 5: give us the dates again just because that way, because
- 13:04Speaker 5: I know how golfers are. The golf calendar is starting
- 13:08Speaker 5: starting to fill up right now, so give us the
- 13:10Speaker 5: dates for that.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Yeah, it's August the ninth, a Saturday, a Big Bend.
- 13:14Speaker 6: It'll be our twenty second annual. We do sell out.
- 13:17Speaker 6: We limit it to one hundred and twenty golfers. We
- 13:20Speaker 6: have thirty volunteers on the course that day, a lot
- 13:24Speaker 6: of folks just trying to make your day special. We
- 13:28Speaker 6: felt the more we could touch a golfer, the better
- 13:32Speaker 6: the experience would be. So at every part three we
- 13:35Speaker 6: have volunteers, We have rifle opportunities and August the ninth
- 13:41Speaker 6: is the golf outing and we'll have another community day
- 13:45Speaker 6: hopefully community service city wide pick up in the middle
- 13:48Speaker 6: of August. And then being the leadership chair for twenty
- 13:52Speaker 6: twenty five for the Alzheimer's Association and the walks across
- 13:55Speaker 6: our state, I'm promoting all the walks in the different
- 14:00Speaker 6: areas and October will be the walk here in Charleston
- 14:04Speaker 6: for the Alzheimer's Association as a quick transition.
- 14:07Speaker 5: From Foundation Alzheimers. But I know we're limited, right, But
- 14:10Speaker 5: you got a lot of stuff going on, man.
- 14:12Speaker 6: Well, I actually tried to print the different activities going
- 14:15Speaker 6: on from Dumbar to Nitro to Saint Albans. That is
- 14:18Speaker 6: my district, that is District fifty eight. We talk about
- 14:22Speaker 6: grassroots programs and as you know, I've been receiving some
- 14:27Speaker 6: direct mailers in the Milt to my constituents, and you know,
- 14:31Speaker 6: I live grassroots. I put my money where my mouth
- 14:35Speaker 6: is and that's through a variety of events. And you
- 14:40Speaker 6: know I'm involved with the Rotary Club, as you and
- 14:42Speaker 6: I have been for the last twenty years, walk to
- 14:45Speaker 6: end Alzheimer's, organizing community cleanups. We're doing a youth Safety
- 14:50Speaker 6: Day in July down in the city of Saint Albans.
- 14:56Speaker 6: Some news about our chief Gilbert as going to be
- 15:00Speaker 6: retiring soon. So I had the opportunity to speak with
- 15:04Speaker 6: Captain Bass yesterday and Mayor Goodwin in Charleston. That's a
- 15:09Speaker 6: big event for kids. We're going to provide free helmets
- 15:13Speaker 6: to our youth and bicycles if needed. That'll be at
- 15:17Speaker 6: the Saint Aubans parking lot. Just another event that I
- 15:22Speaker 6: not only participate in volunteer, but organize as well.
- 15:26Speaker 5: So we'll have.
- 15:29Speaker 6: The bicycles and to do a training course and then
- 15:32Speaker 6: we'll go through town trying to offer up free helmets
- 15:35Speaker 6: where they're needed for safety purposes.
- 15:37Speaker 5: You said something about a mailer. What is somebody?
- 15:41Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a well funded This is all new to me, so.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Yeah, well funded.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Pick that has sent mailers to my constituents that have
- 15:54Speaker 6: about certain topics that I'm not going to address or
- 15:58Speaker 6: give them any credit for. But if you want to
- 16:01Speaker 6: talk about grassroots, let's talk about what we're doing. Okay,
- 16:03Speaker 6: That's what I'm here to tell you about what I'm
- 16:05Speaker 6: doing and what I've been doing for twenty years. And uh,
- 16:09Speaker 6: it's not about a shiny, glossy postcard. It's about putting
- 16:13Speaker 6: your feet the pavement, it's about lifting others up, and
- 16:17Speaker 6: it's about doing I'll leave it at that and this
- 16:24Speaker 6: comment and appreciate the opportunity to serve my district. And
- 16:26Speaker 6: I'll continue to do that for as long as they
- 16:29Speaker 6: want me and appreciate my work.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Don't good, wal Hall, give us the website or social
- 16:34Speaker 5: media whatever for your foundation.
- 16:36Speaker 6: Well foundation is two five one seven seven foundation. That
- 16:41Speaker 6: is a Facebook page In regards to my campaign, It's
- 16:45Speaker 6: Walter Hall WV dot com. You can pretty much google
- 16:50Speaker 6: my name and you'll find all the different organizations and
- 16:53Speaker 6: events that I'm engaged in and dementia friendly Saint Aubans.
- 16:58Speaker 6: I'm very proud of what we're doing down there, proud
- 17:01Speaker 6: of the work. The Alzheimer's Association is also putting forth
- 17:06Speaker 6: and i'd say getting gaged man. June twenty first, the
- 17:10Speaker 6: Collar the River Purple is another event. It'll be a
- 17:14Speaker 6: float trip, canoe trip, kayak or paddle board putting in
- 17:18Speaker 6: at boy Scout Lodge and Canall Boulevard. I could go
- 17:21Speaker 6: on and on day.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, we only got an hour show water. I'll be
- 17:25Speaker 5: back after break Okay, we'll go get that knee taking
- 17:29Speaker 5: care of her. You're not going to be doing any
- 17:30Speaker 5: of this stuff, I hear you.
- 17:31Speaker 6: But I do appreciate the opportunity to share events that's
- 17:34Speaker 6: happening in our community, and I encourage everybody to get
- 17:37Speaker 6: out and as you know, got fest coming up in
- 17:39Speaker 6: Saint Albans June thirteenth and fourteen.

- 20:40Speaker 5: How you been, sir. I'm doing well, good doing well.
- 20:42Speaker 5: We've got a lot of stuff to talk to you
- 20:43Speaker 5: about as well. Big front page, glossy picture in the
- 20:47Speaker 5: gazette mail last week about a new new grocery store
- 20:50Speaker 5: come to the East End. Talk about it.
- 20:52Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, as as you and I've discussed for
- 20:56Speaker 8: i'd say the last decade now, grocery store on the
- 21:00Speaker 8: East End has been a topic of conversation in one
- 21:02Speaker 8: form or another. You know, the East End has been
- 21:05Speaker 8: a technical food desert as far as FDA standards are concerned.
- 21:09Speaker 8: And it's because there hasn't been a grocery store there
- 21:11Speaker 8: since I believe two thousand and one, maybe two thousand
- 21:13Speaker 8: and two, somewhere in there. And so the residents of
- 21:17Speaker 8: that particular district, that neighborhood have have had to you know,
- 21:20Speaker 8: find if they don't have transportation, find transportation to get
- 21:23Speaker 8: to get access to goods, food and goods and you know,
- 21:27Speaker 8: healthy food, or if they do have transportation, they have
- 21:31Speaker 8: to drive elsewhere. So, you know, seeing the announcement about
- 21:35Speaker 8: this and and you know, having a conversation with Ray,
- 21:38Speaker 8: the owner who's going to be opening up this this
- 21:39Speaker 8: bodega style grocery store. You know, it's it's exciting, it's promising.
- 21:45Speaker 8: I think that we're going to see a good start
- 21:48Speaker 8: to something. We're going to see the need fulfilled, and
- 21:51Speaker 8: we're going to see the proof that there is a
- 21:53Speaker 8: huge need there.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Now, explain exactly where it is. So if you recall
- 21:56Speaker 5: where Genos was.
- 21:59Speaker 8: Right there was Tutor's Biscuit World right there at the
- 22:01Speaker 8: corner of Ruffner Avenue in Washington Street East. Uh, it's
- 22:04Speaker 8: that building where Gino's Pizza and Spaghetti was, and uh,
- 22:09Speaker 8: it's food Town. It is the name, the name of
- 22:11Speaker 8: the name of the business, and it's you know, it's
- 22:15Speaker 8: going to have pretty much everything you need. You know,
- 22:19Speaker 8: smaller store obviously, But what I've been saying whenever I've
- 22:22Speaker 8: been talking about it is it's a great step in
- 22:24Speaker 8: the right direction. I think he's he's doing a really
- 22:26Speaker 8: good job with a design inside, and I really believe
- 22:30Speaker 8: that the services and the goods that will be offered there,
- 22:34Speaker 8: mostly goods, will be a really really good first step there.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Now, explain the concept of a bodega you see these
- 22:40Speaker 5: in larger cities. New York comes to mind. But for
- 22:42Speaker 5: those who may not know, explain, explain what a bodega
- 22:45Speaker 5: actually is.
- 22:45Speaker 8: Well, you know, that's the term you use a lot
- 22:46Speaker 8: when you go to bigger cities, typically in neighborhoods of
- 22:50Speaker 8: larger metropolitan areas. You know, if you go to Brooklyn,
- 22:53Speaker 8: New York, if you're in any you know, little neighborhood
- 22:55Speaker 8: that it exists in any larger city. They're usually corner stores,
- 23:00Speaker 8: if you will, and you know, they offer everything you need.
- 23:05Speaker 8: Usually there's like a small deli in there. I don't
- 23:07Speaker 8: know if food Town is going to have that, right, yeah,
- 23:09Speaker 8: you know, package goods, pretty much everything you need. And
- 23:14Speaker 8: it's designed for people who because those those densely populated areas,
- 23:18Speaker 8: there's a large population of people who live around it, indeed,
- 23:21Speaker 8: quick access to things they can walk to. And this
- 23:24Speaker 8: gentleman is from New York and so he's bringing that
- 23:27Speaker 8: style here and I think it's perfect for the East
- 23:29Speaker 8: End neighborhood.
- 23:30Speaker 5: I mean, and as you said, Rick, this is something
- 23:32Speaker 5: that has been has been needed, you know, in that
- 23:35Speaker 5: area for some time. And it's it's kind of interesting
- 23:37Speaker 5: the way because you know when I when I was
- 23:39Speaker 5: here an old guy story, but when I was a kid,
- 23:42Speaker 5: there there were little stores like this around. Of course
- 23:45Speaker 5: I grew up in a much more rural area, but
- 23:47Speaker 5: there were little stores like this, and then a lot
- 23:49Speaker 5: of them just couldn't compete with the larger stores, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 5: the Kroger and certainly a wal Mart or something like that,
- 23:54Speaker 5: and so what they were kind of replaced with in
- 23:57Speaker 5: some of these areas was carry out type stores, which
- 23:59Speaker 5: which well, it's okay for certain things, but as you said,
- 24:02Speaker 5: when it comes to as you and the FDA put
- 24:05Speaker 5: Drug Administration is a big part of that because being
- 24:09Speaker 5: FDA certified, meaning it's more of a grocery store, not
- 24:12Speaker 5: just a place to stop buy and get cigarettes, pop
- 24:15Speaker 5: and beer. You know, there's a lot more to it.
- 24:17Speaker 8: Well, you know, and if I can rewind back to
- 24:19Speaker 8: twenty ten and you read the article, so you know,
- 24:22Speaker 8: in twenty ten, we commissioned a huge grocery store feasibility study.
- 24:26Speaker 8: We brought in, we hired professionals from out of the
- 24:29Speaker 8: area to come in and analyze the entire district, not
- 24:32Speaker 8: just the district, but the entire valley. We did front
- 24:35Speaker 8: porch focus groups throughout the East End. I walked around
- 24:38Speaker 8: with the consultants we hired and we interviewed people on
- 24:43Speaker 8: their front porches as we saw them and asked them
- 24:45Speaker 8: where do you go to get your to get your groceries?
- 24:47Speaker 8: You know, you're we know you just don't need you know,
- 24:50Speaker 8: chips and cheese, it's and whatnot. You need you need
- 24:53Speaker 8: access to real healthy food. Where do you go? The
- 24:55Speaker 8: answers were really interesting. There were folks, a lot of
- 24:57Speaker 8: the folks we talked to did not have a car,
- 24:59Speaker 8: and so they would they would walk to the Capital Market.
- 25:02Speaker 8: They would walk in some cases to Dollar General. Dollar
- 25:05Speaker 8: Dollar General had just opened and they had they had
- 25:06Speaker 8: in that particular Dollar General on the East End, they
- 25:08Speaker 8: had put so like a small little grocery section there,
- 25:10Speaker 8: like a freezer section, but they still were you know,
- 25:14Speaker 8: the Capital Market has a lot, they have pretty much
- 25:16Speaker 8: everything you need, but sometimes those price points for folks
- 25:19Speaker 8: in certain socioeconomic you know, uh areas may not be
- 25:24Speaker 8: able to afford all of that. And so they were
- 25:26Speaker 8: having to go two, three, four different places to get
- 25:28Speaker 8: what they needed because they didn't have access to one
- 25:31Speaker 8: place that had everything. And then there were some there
- 25:34Speaker 8: were We've talked to a group of elderly ladies who
- 25:37Speaker 8: they caravaned. They they'd gotten a they carpolled up to
- 25:40Speaker 8: the astron Place Kroger once a week or to the
- 25:42Speaker 8: Canal City Kroger once a week together because it was
- 25:44Speaker 8: easier for them. These are all things that no one
- 25:46Speaker 8: in the capital city should should have to have to do.
- 25:49Speaker 8: But we all should have quick access to everything we
- 25:52Speaker 8: need on a daily basis. And it's it's pretty it's
- 25:56Speaker 8: sad that the East End has been this food desert
- 25:58Speaker 8: for so long. Through that feasibility study, we were able
- 26:01Speaker 8: to make contact with potential grocers, showing them particular lots
- 26:07Speaker 8: that could be interesting to them. But the model, the
- 26:10Speaker 8: national model for locating a grocery store, and we're talking
- 26:13Speaker 8: the larger ones, Kroger Aldi, you know, the big, the
- 26:17Speaker 8: big ones. Their specs have changed so much, what they
- 26:21Speaker 8: what they require to locate in any type of urban district.
- 26:26Speaker 8: That just doesn't happen in states are size. I mean,
- 26:28Speaker 8: you know, if you go to Chicago, you're going to
- 26:30Speaker 8: find a Trader Joe's on one floor and an Audi
- 26:32Speaker 8: on the floor above it. You know, and in downtown
- 26:35Speaker 8: Chicago that works because the population is so much higher,
- 26:37Speaker 8: and they can they can sustain that because the bottom
- 26:40Speaker 8: line is margins are just really really tight in the
- 26:44Speaker 8: grocery industry.
- 26:45Speaker 5: It's a huge risk.
- 26:47Speaker 8: And the gentleman who's opening foodtown here, I'm not only appreciative,
- 26:51Speaker 8: I'm congratulating him on the risk. I think it won't
- 26:54Speaker 8: be I think he'll find it won't be a risk.
- 26:56Speaker 8: I think it will be successful. I think he is
- 26:58Speaker 8: going to offer the things that the folks in the
- 26:59Speaker 8: east in need. And the hope is it's not just
- 27:01Speaker 8: the folks that live there, but it becomes a destination
- 27:04Speaker 8: for people who may work around the East End. You know,
- 27:06Speaker 8: the East End is flanked by two of the largest
- 27:08Speaker 8: employers in the in the state of West Virginia. You
- 27:11Speaker 8: have the Capital on one end, you have CAMC General
- 27:14Speaker 8: on the other end. We're talking huge buying power there.
- 27:17Speaker 8: So how do you keep those people there before they
- 27:19Speaker 8: hop on the interstate? How do you create a destination
- 27:22Speaker 8: for them to stop somewhere before they go home where
- 27:24Speaker 8: they may live.
- 27:25Speaker 5: You know, and there's so many of us that do that.
- 27:27Speaker 5: On the way home, you know, you text back and
- 27:29Speaker 5: forth with your spouse or your family or whatever and say, hey,
- 27:31Speaker 5: can you stop and pick this up on the way home?
- 27:33Speaker 5: Can you you know we're getting the grilling season. Can
- 27:35Speaker 5: you can you stop and pick up a couple of
- 27:37Speaker 5: stakes or burgers or hot dogs or something we're going
- 27:39Speaker 5: to throw on the grill, because I know you don't
- 27:41Speaker 5: care Rick to answer the tougher questions. Okay, I got that,
- 27:45Speaker 5: because well, I mean your two jobs have kind of
- 27:47Speaker 5: raged here for that. You know, that's this school board
- 27:50Speaker 5: which we're not We're gonna let you'all a hook on
- 27:51Speaker 5: school bak stuff today. We're not talking summertime day and yet,
- 27:54Speaker 5: so we're not talking about that that area. Though in
- 27:57Speaker 5: the East End there have been, as you well know,
- 27:59Speaker 5: this is what you do for a living, there have
- 28:00Speaker 5: been some there have been some issues you know, with
- 28:03Speaker 5: with crime and whatever. And we had a couple of
- 28:07Speaker 5: texts whor people ask about how how concerning is that?
- 28:10Speaker 5: And that they had one text that's mentioned that another
- 28:12Speaker 5: store had gone out and I don't know if this
- 28:15Speaker 5: is to be the case. This is what they said,
- 28:17Speaker 5: specifically because of the of crime and theft and things
- 28:19Speaker 5: of that nature. How concerned are you about that?
- 28:22Speaker 8: I'll tell you I'll tell you this what we have realized,
- 28:26Speaker 8: and I've been doing this work for seventeen years, and
- 28:28Speaker 8: we've seen ups and downs on the East End. You know,
- 28:30Speaker 8: there's downturns, there's upturns. And I tell you the upturns
- 28:33Speaker 8: happened when small businesses are investing in not just their building,
- 28:38Speaker 8: not just their business, but in their neighborhood. And typically
- 28:40Speaker 8: that happens at the same time. You know, right across
- 28:43Speaker 8: the street from from where this bodega is going in
- 28:46Speaker 8: is a gas station that many folks did not feel
- 28:49Speaker 8: comfortable whatever stopping at for several years, and it was acquired,
- 28:52Speaker 8: and you know, it's definitely it's definitely been upgraded to
- 28:56Speaker 8: a certain degree.
- 28:57Speaker 5: It's a little more inviting now. You know that that helped.
- 29:01Speaker 8: But you also have a business catty corner across you
- 29:04Speaker 8: of Leonardo Spaghetti that's been opened for over one hundred
- 29:07Speaker 8: and ten years now. I believe that still was very
- 29:10Speaker 8: successful because it's a destination business. People still go there.
- 29:13Speaker 8: They feel comfortable enough to go there. What we've seen
- 29:16Speaker 8: over time, while yes, there are problems that exist in
- 29:19Speaker 8: every city, we know that, and certain areas may be
- 29:22Speaker 8: worse than others we know that as well. What we've
- 29:24Speaker 8: seen is that when investment occurs, those crime trends usually
- 29:30Speaker 8: start to go on a downturn.
- 29:32Speaker 5: That's usually what we see.
- 29:33Speaker 8: We've seen that happen on the West Side, we saw
- 29:35Speaker 8: that happen on the East End for a long time.
- 29:37Speaker 8: And you know what do we see happen when certain
- 29:39Speaker 8: businesses close things also they take a downturn again. So
- 29:43Speaker 8: it's I've always been a believer that it's the chicken
- 29:46Speaker 8: before the egg. Whenever you see investment happen in a
- 29:49Speaker 8: commercial district, you see the culture and the sort of shift,
- 29:53Speaker 8: you see the dynamic shift. And I believe that particular
- 29:56Speaker 8: corner is an extremely important corner. If you look at
- 29:59Speaker 8: the over minual plan for the East End, there are
- 30:01Speaker 8: certain corners that are outlined to be very important for development.
- 30:04Speaker 8: The Elizabeth Street corner, which unfortunately we've seen some businesses
- 30:06Speaker 8: closed there over the past few years, and the Roughner
- 30:08Speaker 8: Avenue corner right there. Years ago, we opened up the
- 30:12Speaker 8: East End Bizarre on that corner just to you know,
- 30:15Speaker 8: make some investment and get some foot traffic down there.
- 30:17Speaker 8: For the first few years it was really successful. Unfortunately
- 30:21Speaker 8: we had to we had to close it down. But
- 30:23Speaker 8: you know, I really do believe that that's usually the
- 30:28Speaker 8: order in which things occur. You see investment happen with
- 30:30Speaker 8: small businesses in a in a commercial district and urban
- 30:33Speaker 8: commercial district, and you see things slowly start to change.
- 30:36Speaker 8: So my hope is we have responsible business owners down there.
- 30:41Speaker 8: We have wonderful places like health right that just did
- 30:43Speaker 8: that enormous expansion just two lots over from from actually
- 30:47Speaker 8: just a lot over from where this.
- 30:48Speaker 5: New bodega is going.
- 30:50Speaker 8: You know, huge expansion, beautiful new renovation building and renovation
- 30:54Speaker 8: to a building, and we and that's also been a
- 30:57Speaker 8: help for the East End. So brick by brick is
- 30:59Speaker 8: what we've always said, that's how change happens. And what
- 31:03Speaker 8: we mean by that is when small business investment occurs,
- 31:06Speaker 8: we see changes in the neighborhoods.
- 31:08Speaker 5: Well, any kind of a timeline with this, can you
- 31:10Speaker 5: give me an approximate? I mean, what are we looking
- 31:12Speaker 5: at here?
- 31:12Speaker 8: I'm waiting to hear back from him. We talked briefly
- 31:14Speaker 8: last week and we're supposed to meet some time this week.
- 31:17Speaker 5: He was out of town.
- 31:17Speaker 8: I think he's coming back maybe at the end of
- 31:19Speaker 8: this week, so I'll know more. I know we're still
- 31:21Speaker 8: a few weeks out, maybe maybe a month or two
- 31:24Speaker 8: out from it from officially opening. But you know, if
- 31:26Speaker 8: you've seen, if you've walked by and you've seen the storefront,
- 31:29Speaker 8: I mean he's already made some really good investment in
- 31:30Speaker 8: the storefront, really nice attractive signage, he's cleaned up the facade,
- 31:35Speaker 8: and I've already let him know. We have grant money
- 31:37Speaker 8: available for this type of thing that we offer any
- 31:39Speaker 8: of our property business owners in our districts. So we're
- 31:43Speaker 8: willing and waiting and willing to offer a helping hand
- 31:46Speaker 8: however they may need.
- 31:47Speaker 5: We got a lot of big events and we'll be
- 31:49Speaker 5: talking more about this. I think I got your scheduled
- 31:51Speaker 5: to come out of like a week or so to
- 31:53Speaker 5: talk about or maybe two weeks to talk about foam
- 31:55Speaker 5: with the dome, and that's a big thing you guys
- 31:57Speaker 5: are doing well. Our stations will be a big part
- 31:59Speaker 5: of that, as we always our house. The planning going
- 32:01Speaker 5: for that.
- 32:01Speaker 8: Really really well. We're pretty much ready. I mean we're
- 32:03Speaker 8: now just pushing out the advertising marketing. You know, of course,
- 32:06Speaker 8: you guys will be doing the ticket giveaways here in
- 32:08Speaker 8: a couple of weeks. You know, this event in its
- 32:10Speaker 8: ninth year. It has just become a staple for not
- 32:13Speaker 8: just the city, but for the whole state. You know,
- 32:15Speaker 8: we've seen people from sixteen different states attend this event
- 32:18Speaker 8: over the course of the past nine years. It's one
- 32:21Speaker 8: of the largest craft beer music festivals in the state
- 32:23Speaker 8: now and it draws people into not just the district,
- 32:27Speaker 8: but the entire city, and so we're capitalizing on that.
- 32:30Speaker 8: This year. We're adding a component to that called Foam
- 32:32Speaker 8: after the Dome, and we've already gotten the advertising out
- 32:35Speaker 8: in the businesses about that. We're wanting people to stick around.
- 32:38Speaker 8: The event's over at seven o'clock. You could have really
- 32:40Speaker 8: good time from three to seven o'clock. But we have
- 32:42Speaker 8: fifteen different local businesses participating offering drinking, drink and food
- 32:46Speaker 8: specials for our VIP ticket holders because we want folks
- 32:49Speaker 8: to stay in Charleston wants thee event's over, because we
- 32:52Speaker 8: have folks that are they're riding or they're preserving hotel rooms,
- 32:55Speaker 8: they're coming from out of town. We have folks that
- 32:57Speaker 8: are local here that may live Accounty over, may live
- 33:00Speaker 8: you know, twenty minutes away, but we want them to
- 33:02Speaker 8: keep their money here and keep their feet on the
- 33:04Speaker 8: street here after our events.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Over our tickets available.
- 33:08Speaker 8: Hoom CWV dot com to get you.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Tickets ahead of time, and the VIP tickets arerun there
- 33:12Speaker 5: as well. That's right, fifty five for VIP, forty five
- 33:14Speaker 5: for general. All right, Rick, I appreciate it, man. So
- 33:16Speaker 5: it's pleasure to have you here, and we'll have you on,
- 33:18Speaker 5: as we said, as we get closer to foaming the
- 33:19Speaker 5: dome here in a couple of weeks, and all of
- 33:20Speaker 5: our stations will be over there broadcasting live and hanging
- 33:23Speaker 5: out on the stage as long as you you know,

- 37:50Speaker 5: I do want to throw this out there that as
- 37:53Speaker 5: we speak, the bargains thing, the auction is going on
- 37:56Speaker 5: bargains dot com et on over the website. You're going
- 37:58Speaker 5: to save yourself a whole bunch of money from different
- 38:00Speaker 5: stuff going on there. That just launched that yesterday and
- 38:03Speaker 5: there's a lot of lot of lot of cool stuff
- 38:06Speaker 5: of it. You'll hear a familiar voice. I think when
- 38:08Speaker 5: the website launches. Okay, I think that, I think I'm
- 38:12Speaker 5: on that. Okay, I lose track. I'll be honest. All right.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Rob is here because Rob gets an idea. And what
- 38:18Speaker 5: happens is is Rob says, you know, I've got this idea,
- 38:21Speaker 5: and suddenly all of us in the building are saying, Okay,
- 38:24Speaker 5: what does this mean for us? Yes, and it's all
- 38:26Speaker 5: good because we love giving back to the community, you know.
- 38:29Speaker 5: And so we're doing this thing on Thursday on our
- 38:31Speaker 5: parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Street, Decent, Charleston, seven am
- 38:35Speaker 5: till six pm. And you know the routine, you know.
- 38:38Speaker 5: Right now, we move all the vehicles off the lot,
- 38:41Speaker 5: we let people, We ask people, our listeners, greatest listeners
- 38:44Speaker 5: in the world, to come in and donate what this time.
- 38:48Speaker 7: It is non perishable snacks for kids because school's out
- 38:53Speaker 7: for summer, as Alice Cooper saying, and one in five
- 38:56Speaker 7: West Virginia kids faces some level of food insecure. Two
- 39:00Speaker 7: thirds of West Virginia school kids are eligible for free
- 39:04Speaker 7: or reduced lunch. Seventy thousand West Virginia school kids are
- 39:10Speaker 7: in this situation, and there are some who only eat
- 39:15Speaker 7: when school is open and breakfast and lunch are served there.
- 39:19Speaker 7: So we're trying to serve our neediest weeest friends and
- 39:23Speaker 7: neighbors with the help of Union Mission gathering up non
- 39:27Speaker 7: perishable snacks and Union Missions doing the heavy lifting. Let's
- 39:30Speaker 7: be honest, they're doing the collecting and the sorting and
- 39:32Speaker 7: the distributing. Cash and check donations work great as well,
- 39:36Speaker 7: but at the end of the day on Thursday between
- 39:39Speaker 7: when we're done at six o'clock Thursday evening, we want
- 39:41Speaker 7: to have a truckload of non perishable snacks to keep
- 39:44Speaker 7: kids in need fed this summer.
- 39:46Speaker 5: I had the whole thing, and let me tell you
- 39:48Speaker 5: some of the things that we're looking for. They're not
- 39:50Speaker 5: limited to these things, but here's some of the things
- 39:52Speaker 5: we're looking for. Things like box cereals, cups of noodles,
- 39:56Speaker 5: mac and cheese, pop tarts, juice cups, gator Ray, oatmeal, chips,
- 40:02Speaker 5: cereal bars, package cheese and crackers, cookies, goldfish, crackers, soups, jellos, pudding,
- 40:08Speaker 5: fruit cups, that's kind of that's kind of what we're
- 40:10Speaker 5: talking about here.
- 40:10Speaker 7: The recovering missus Reel as I've taken to calling her
- 40:14Speaker 7: and my ex wife is a junior high math teacher,
- 40:18Speaker 7: and she says that goldfish crackers in particular, any of
- 40:22Speaker 7: the flavors, are incredibly hard for her to keep in
- 40:26Speaker 7: stock in her little She's got a little store she
- 40:29Speaker 7: runs in her room, you know, extra credit points and
- 40:32Speaker 7: that sort of thing, So she can't keep enough goldfish.
- 40:34Speaker 7: So if you go into vapor locker, well, what can
- 40:37Speaker 7: I get as many goldfish crackers as you can do that?
- 40:41Speaker 7: And we don't care if you donate, Like if you
- 40:43Speaker 7: go to your local whatever the store is and you
- 40:47Speaker 7: buy a box, you go to your local sam store
- 40:49Speaker 7: and you get a box of boxes, so to speak.
- 40:53Speaker 7: Or we don't care if you run to end of
- 40:54Speaker 7: your local convenience store and come back with a simple
- 40:58Speaker 7: pop tart.
- 40:59Speaker 5: You know what, we don't care. Everything is the right size.
- 41:02Speaker 7: Everyone can find a way within their means, within their
- 41:06Speaker 7: budget to be a part of this. I mentioned cash
- 41:08Speaker 7: and check donations are available. Maybe you can't run to
- 41:10Speaker 7: the store, but you can run to the ATM, or
- 41:12Speaker 7: you can just rip off a check for Union mission
- 41:15Speaker 7: that will all work. I am always impressed but never
- 41:20Speaker 7: surprised at the way West Virginians come through for West Virginians.
- 41:24Speaker 7: I mean, and this is a guy who just got
- 41:26Speaker 7: this bright idea last year to walk to Morgantown to
- 41:30Speaker 7: walk a check up because you know, the mail service
- 41:32Speaker 7: doesn't work anymore.
- 41:33Speaker 5: He thought, I'll just walk the check up there. But
- 41:36Speaker 5: people and big shout out to Panhandle cleaning the restoration
- 41:39Speaker 5: for helping out with that. People came through all along
- 41:42Speaker 5: the way and you presented a big old check to
- 41:44Speaker 5: And it's not about the reason I'm bringing that up
- 41:46Speaker 5: is is because that meant that our listeners care about
- 41:51Speaker 5: West Virginia. And if I've.
- 41:54Speaker 7: Learned two things, it's that people want to help, but
- 41:58Speaker 7: that people need They need a mcguffin, they need an
- 42:02Speaker 7: easy way to do it. And so we created this
- 42:05Speaker 7: for want of a better way to describe it, this
- 42:07Speaker 7: Drop brand that we have now started with our first
- 42:11Speaker 7: turkey drop that we do with Thanksgiving, frozen turkeys to
- 42:13Speaker 7: feed families during the holidays. And then our Drop your
- 42:17Speaker 7: Socks drive through socks, the most requested item at shelters
- 42:20Speaker 7: and Service providers, so keep folks warm in the winter.
- 42:23Speaker 7: Now we've added another one here in the summer to
- 42:25Speaker 7: keep kids fed. You just loop through our parking lot.
- 42:28Speaker 7: It's very simple. You don't have to get out of
- 42:30Speaker 7: your nice comfortable vehicle. You just hand whatever through the
- 42:33Speaker 7: window or pop the hatch and we'll grab it for you.
- 42:35Speaker 7: Seven in the morning till six in the evening. So
- 42:37Speaker 7: the time, even on a Thursday, even the day of
- 42:40Speaker 7: the week is the same for these drop events. So
- 42:44Speaker 7: we're doing our part to make this as easy as
- 42:47Speaker 7: we can to help our friends and neighbors.
- 42:48Speaker 5: That's what we're doing. Seven ambl six pm. And I
- 42:50Speaker 5: get big shout out to Adjason and the Folks Union
- 42:53Speaker 5: Mission as well, because they're kind of helping us because
- 42:55Speaker 5: we collect it and eventually we'll eat it, so he's
- 42:59Speaker 5: got to take it. He's not wrong, so he's gonna
- 43:02Speaker 5: take this stuff. And again I gave you the lit
- 43:04Speaker 5: that's just an idea. As long as it's a nonperishable
- 43:06Speaker 5: food item, will take it. And it doesn't matter whether
- 43:09Speaker 5: you can bring us a case of Gatorade bottles or
- 43:11Speaker 5: you can bring one bottle.
- 43:13Speaker 7: We don't we don't care if you went through the
- 43:15Speaker 7: store and they had a like a two dollars two
- 43:17Speaker 7: for four dollars situation, And you want to drink one
- 43:20Speaker 7: of them and give us the other one, we will
- 43:22Speaker 7: take it. Yeah, we are not saying no when it
- 43:25Speaker 7: comes to helping our friends and neighbors.
- 43:26Speaker 5: All right, Rob, seven am till six pm on our
- 43:29Speaker 5: parking on here to eleven eleven Virginia Street East in Charleston,
- 43:32Speaker 5: and it will be happening tomorrow, well Thursday, I mean,
- 43:34Speaker 5: I'm sorry Thursday. I was thinking. I was already thinking
- 43:36Speaker 5: about tomorrow's show. Do I do? The whole day of
- 43:39Speaker 5: the week is a lot. It's it's on Thursday, and
- 43:42Speaker 5: I was looking ahead at the weather. The weather looks good.
- 43:44Speaker 5: I mean, be couse, you're not going to be get
- 43:45Speaker 5: out in your car anyway.
- 43:46Speaker 7: So fitting to be hot, so you can stay in
- 43:48Speaker 7: your air conditioned vehicle.
- 43:50Speaker 5: And that means that Steve Annibal will be in a
- 43:52Speaker 5: speedo again. Yeah. Again, It's just another day in Paradise.
- 43:56Speaker 5: I still be wearing that month, all right, Rob. Real
- 43:58Speaker 5: from our sisters station ninety one KWS, your country music station.
- 44:06Speaker 5: Yeah of the year. Yeah, they gave us a lot
- 44:08Speaker 5: of shards of glass. Yeah, it was very I don't
- 44:10Speaker 5: know if I've had a chance to congratulate you on
- 44:11Speaker 5: the air about that, but yeah. Ninety six one KWS
- 44:14Speaker 5: was named by the West Virginia Broadcast Association as the

- 49:55Speaker 5: a radical idea. Here, are you ready? I'm ready to
- 49:57Speaker 5: go for it. We may have to. This trend continues
- 50:02Speaker 5: of parents and grandparents, not kids, parents and grandparents misbehaving
- 50:06Speaker 5: at public events. Now it's graduations, and now it's in
- 50:09Speaker 5: West Virginia, it's little leagues, high schools. Whatever, mom and
- 50:13Speaker 5: dad can't behave and mom and dad and grandparents need
- 50:16Speaker 5: to stay away. We banned the parents, and we just
- 50:19Speaker 5: let the kids play, and we just let the kids graduate.
- 50:21Speaker 5: Everything streamed anyway. If it continues like it is now,
- 50:24Speaker 5: that's what's going to happen. And I'm one hundred percent
- 50:26Speaker 5: for it. If it continues like it is now, every parent,
- 50:30Speaker 5: well we've tried just prosecuting a one or two and
- 50:33Speaker 5: that didn't work. I don't know, man, you know how
- 50:36Speaker 5: much I love you. But if it continues the way
- 50:39Speaker 5: it's going now.
- 50:41Speaker 15: Then up the penalty, make them, make them stay a
- 50:43Speaker 15: few nights in jail, make it tangible.
- 50:47Speaker 5: But you would agree with me, though, this is not
- 50:50Speaker 5: It's not the kids. It's nine times out of ten,
- 50:52Speaker 5: it's parents that have failed athletic. And I was no athlete,
- 50:56Speaker 5: don't get me wrong. You take one look at me
- 50:58Speaker 5: and see that. But that have failed athletic dreams themselves,
- 51:02Speaker 5: that don't know how to behave in public, and you're
- 51:04Speaker 5: not going to disrespect my baby, Well, you're disrespecting your
- 51:07Speaker 5: baby now more than what everybody anybody would have.
- 51:09Speaker 15: I have had to learn that. My penchant for competition
- 51:13Speaker 15: and I love to compete. I'll compete with anybody on anything.
- 51:16Speaker 15: I just that's the way I'm wired. I have to
- 51:20Speaker 15: be very deliberate about not putting that on my children
- 51:23Speaker 15: because they may not be as competitive about a certain thing,
- 51:26Speaker 15: they may not care about it, and I, as their father,
- 51:28Speaker 15: need to be okay with that and just love them
- 51:30Speaker 15: for who they are and what they want to do.
- 51:32Speaker 5: A lot of parents think their kid is going to
- 51:34Speaker 5: the league.
- 51:35Speaker 16: It's not happening, and your kid's not special and special
- 51:38Speaker 16: you've got to teach that mean your your kid is
- 51:40Speaker 16: probably not that special and they need to learn their places.
- 51:43Speaker 16: My dad and that would be me too. Aef in
- 51:46Speaker 16: the world. That was his number one thing.
- 51:48Speaker 5: Complain it about something, he'd look at me. God rest
- 51:50Speaker 5: his soul son. There's a lot of grief in the world.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Vaccines are your rest protection against severe disease from fluid
