- 0:41Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, uh we weren't here yesterday. I heard
- 0:46Speaker 1: that song yesterday for the first time, and I got
- 0:51Speaker 1: to turn that up because I can't even myself. I
- 0:54Speaker 1: heard that song yesterday for the first time. It's twenty
- 0:56Speaker 1: five years old. George Jones. He didn't write it, Jamie O'Hare.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I wrote it.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Unbelievable song, obviously about the Vietnam Memorial and just appropriate
- 1:10Speaker 1: for Memorial Day again. Fifty thousand names is the name
- 1:16Speaker 1: of that song and that's the great George Jones. I
- 1:20Speaker 1: can't believe I've never heard that song until yesterday. So
- 1:24Speaker 1: I had to have Trey play at us. Said, man,
- 1:26Speaker 1: we got to play that. That's just unbelievable. You can
- 1:30Speaker 1: go to YouTube and see the video, and I dare
- 1:34Speaker 1: you to go watch the video without breaking down because
- 1:38Speaker 1: it is amazing. So just want to acknowledge the fact
- 1:47Speaker 1: that we were gone yesterday. There, you know yesterday. There's
- 1:54Speaker 1: a reason why we get to have a day off
- 2:01Speaker 1: from work and grill and do whatever, go to the lake,
- 2:06Speaker 1: go to the beach. But that hope that that song,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and I'm gonna play another one that I've played before
- 2:15Speaker 1: called Jimmy's Road from Willie Nelson from the IRS tapes.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Today.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Also, Hey, welcome in. This portion of the program is
- 2:25Speaker 1: brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. We are going to
- 2:29Speaker 1: hear from a and baseball coach Michael early In Caden
- 2:32Speaker 1: Surrell on the NCAA tournament which starts at Olson Friday afternoon.
- 2:39Speaker 1: We've got a high school report. We're gonna hear from
- 2:43Speaker 1: supermodel Kim Alexis. She has a new podcast out. I
- 2:49Speaker 1: got to visit with her last week Mallory in the
- 2:53Speaker 1: second hour, and also in the second hour, we're gonna
- 2:56Speaker 1: celebrate Stevie Nick's seventy eighth birthday to day with a
- 3:03Speaker 1: couple of interviews. We've done one author Mark Blake, wrote
- 3:07Speaker 1: a book on Fleetwood Mac that we had several years ago,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and then we just did an interview a couple of
- 3:13Speaker 1: three weeks ago with Annie Zeleski on her new book
- 3:17Speaker 1: called Stevie Nicks in Fifty Songs. So we've slapped together
- 3:24Speaker 1: a pretty good post Memorial Day program for you today.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We think we do not have a show on Friday.
- 3:31Speaker 1: We've got Aggie Baseball on Friday. On Thursday, Ryan, who
- 3:36Speaker 1: normally would be in for me on Friday's and for
- 3:39Speaker 1: me on Thursday, I have to be out on Thursday,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but since I'm going to be out, I am going
- 3:49Speaker 1: to be working for you the listener part of the time.
- 3:52Speaker 1: We'll be at the Rangers Astros game on Thursday, unless
- 3:56Speaker 1: they've decided to just disband the Rangers friends by then,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and the Colonial on Friday, and it's been a few
- 4:06Speaker 1: years since I've been there. Oh my gosh, I'm excited
- 4:10Speaker 1: about getting back to Fort Worth and the Colonial Golf
- 4:13Speaker 1: tournament on Friday, so I will report back to you
- 4:20Speaker 1: the following Monday about that experience. But I love that
- 4:25Speaker 1: golf tournament I mentioned Aggie baseball. They are the number
- 4:30Speaker 1: twelve national seed and they will be playing against Lamar
- 4:37Speaker 1: Friday afternoon at three o'clock here on the zone. USC
- 4:44Speaker 1: and Texas State will play at eight o'clock and then
- 4:51Speaker 1: we'll go from there. Let's see. According to D one Baseball,
- 4:58Speaker 1: Houston is set to hire Labar head coach Will Davis.
- 5:03Speaker 1: How about that they will be playing this weekend. Forty
- 5:07Speaker 1: one year old Davis played and coached at LSU, has
- 5:10Speaker 1: been with the Cardinals since twenty sixteen. Obviously, he is
- 5:15Speaker 1: in the Ncuba tournament and has done quite well. The
- 5:20Speaker 1: Cardinals are thirty four and twenty five one the SLC
- 5:26Speaker 1: and got the automatic bid. And again we'll be here
- 5:31Speaker 1: on Friday, so Aggie fans may be seeing more of
- 5:35Speaker 1: him in the future. Astros Rangers tonight seven to five.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Apparently the Rangers have decided to play another game because
- 5:47Speaker 1: they didn't play yesterday. They hadn't played for about four games.
- 5:52Speaker 1: They have lost four in a row to two of
- 5:55Speaker 1: the worst teams in baseball. Although the Astros have now
- 6:00Speaker 1: put a winning streak together. And I will deny this
- 6:04Speaker 1: if Scott Cland didn't calls me on it tomorrow. But
- 6:08Speaker 1: I really think the Astros have a really good chance
- 6:11Speaker 1: of winning the AO West right now because his division
- 6:14Speaker 1: sucks and it's pretty obvious the Rangers ain't gonna win
- 6:19Speaker 1: this division. Jason Alexander George from Seinfeldt against Jack Lighter tonight.
- 6:28Speaker 1: We will have that game at six thirty five, I
- 6:32Speaker 1: believe is right here on the zone. We've got NHL
- 6:37Speaker 1: Stanley Cup hockey. The Avalanche are fighting for their lives.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Who thought this was gonna happen? Vegas can complete a
- 6:47Speaker 1: four game sweep tonight in Vegas. Last night, the Carolina Hurricanes,
- 6:56Speaker 1: now I think, have won five straight overtime games with
- 7:01Speaker 1: the same score of three to two. I believe that's right.
- 7:05Speaker 1: They took down Montreal last night three to two in
- 7:10Speaker 1: overtime to take a two games to one lead in
- 7:13Speaker 1: that series. They will play again tomorrow night in Montreal.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Mike elko Is at the spring meetings in Destin, Florida
- 7:24Speaker 1: for the SEC, said today they ask him how many
- 7:30Speaker 1: he thinks could be in the college football playoff he said,
- 7:33Speaker 1: how about forty, then I won't get fired, said Elko.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's okay to make it hard to get the playoff.
- 7:40Speaker 1: None of us are answering for the good of the sport.
- 7:43Speaker 1: We're answering for the good of their ourselves. If we
- 7:46Speaker 1: don't fight a way to create some level of regulation
- 7:49Speaker 1: in the market, a lot of people are going to
- 7:52Speaker 1: go bankrupt pretty quick. We're two and a half years
- 7:56Speaker 1: away from having an nil budget that's greater than the
- 7:59Speaker 1: tea TV revenue for our entire university. Steve Sarkesian said
- 8:06Speaker 1: he used the wrong words in the basket weaving comment,
- 8:11Speaker 1: referring to ole Miss academics conceding quote, it's a poor
- 8:17Speaker 1: choice of words. I could have used macro economics, I
- 8:25Speaker 1: could have used engineering. It wouldn't have mattered. The class
- 8:30Speaker 1: was irrelevant, and that was a poor choice of words
- 8:34Speaker 1: on my part, said sark The Supreme Court has refused
- 8:40Speaker 1: to intervene in a discrimination lawsuit led by former Dolphins
- 8:45Speaker 1: head coach Brian Flores against the NFL, allowing the case
- 8:50Speaker 1: to proceed toward trial. The justices rebuffed an appeal from
- 8:55Speaker 1: the league, which wanted the case handled through its arbitration process.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Rather than open court in New York, Justice Brett Cavanaugh
- 9:04Speaker 1: descended for the decision not to hear the case. Flora
- 9:07Speaker 1: sued the league and three other teams in February of
- 9:10Speaker 1: twenty two, alleging the league was quote rife with racism
- 9:14Speaker 1: regarding its hiring practices when it comes to black coaches.
- 9:18Speaker 1: He later joined in the lawsuit by fellow black coaches
- 9:21Speaker 1: Steve Wilkes and Ray Horton Flores, who was fired by
- 9:24Speaker 1: the Doulphin shortly before the suit was filed. As now
- 9:27Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, Victor Wimbanana, is

- 9:39Speaker 1: sold for five point one million dollars in a private
- 9:45Speaker 1: sale via Fanatics collect It's by far the most ever
- 9:50Speaker 1: spent on a Whimby card, and the fourth and eleventh
- 9:53Speaker 1: most spent on a basketball and sports card respectively. It's
- 10:00Speaker 1: the most expensive known sale of a non autographed NBA card,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and the third sports card that sold for five or
- 10:10Speaker 1: more million dollars this year. The card was graded a
- 10:17Speaker 1: ten by PSA. The cards then owner and shop owner

- 10:28Speaker 1: to PSA for grading on video. Kurtz Cardcare makes products
- 10:34Speaker 1: to quote safely clean collectible cards and restore and treat edges,
- 10:38Speaker 1: remove minor issues, and card services get them back to
- 10:42Speaker 1: factory as quick as possible. Panini was the exclusive licensee
- 10:50Speaker 1: during Wimbaiano's rookie year. Don Ray, Junior, who became under
- 10:57Speaker 1: fire for his delayed response to to unruly fan behavior
- 11:03Speaker 1: directed at the European team during the Ryder Cup, is
- 11:07Speaker 1: out as President of the PGA of America, effective immediately.
- 11:13Speaker 1: The Board of Directors announced a leadership transition fridday after
- 11:18Speaker 1: announcing Ray had been suspended for the remainder of his
- 11:22Speaker 1: two year term. PGA America Vice President Nathan Charles has
- 11:26Speaker 1: been named acting president. The PGA said Ray's responsibility had
- 11:31Speaker 1: shifted to member priorities. Ray initially compared vitriolic, expltive leaden
- 11:38Speaker 1: comments directed toward Rory McElroy and the rest of the
- 11:41Speaker 1: European team in September at Bethpage Black to what could
- 11:46Speaker 1: be heard at a youth soccer game. A week later,
- 11:51Speaker 1: he apologized in an email to the thirty thousand plus
- 11:55Speaker 1: golf professionals, saying that some fan behavior clearly crossed the
- 12:01Speaker 1: line and was disrespectful, inappropriate, and not representative of who
- 12:08Speaker 1: we are as a PGA of America or PGA of
- 12:10Speaker 1: America golf professionals. And I don't know if you will
- 12:15Speaker 1: miss this. I don't know if you'd had the pay
- 12:17Speaker 1: per view, but Johnny Manziel had an MMA fight over
- 12:22Speaker 1: the WEEKID the former Heisman Trophy winner who's now thirty three,
- 12:30Speaker 1: fought social media influencer Bob Manary. Is that my pronouncing
- 12:36Speaker 1: that right? Who's thirty eight? In a fight that was
- 12:41Speaker 1: stopped in the first round in Las Vegas two minutes
- 12:45Speaker 1: sixteen seconds, said Manzel afterward. This was good enough for
- 12:51Speaker 1: one time. Manary posted a photo of his busted forehead afterwards, saying,
- 12:58Speaker 1: holy bleep. I tired, Oh and one, I kept fighting.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I tried. He had thirty pounds on me. He pummeled me.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Manzelle said, we both like fight. Bleep. Respect for getting
- 13:17Speaker 1: in there. I was trying to write OVO on your forehead.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I don't know what he got paid for that. Clearly
- 13:29Speaker 1: he was not in the best of physical condition. Neither
- 13:33Speaker 1: one of them was in the best of physical condition.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But apparently we have seen Johnny's first and last MMA fight.
- 13:45Speaker 1: By the way, props to him for having the sense
- 13:52Speaker 1: to say that was his one and only fight. I
- 13:56Speaker 1: hope he's telling the truth. I'm sure somebody I'll throw
- 14:00Speaker 1: more money at him. This portion of the program is

- 14:54Speaker 6: Oh my god?
- 14:54Speaker 7: No, how the hell do you guys work in and
- 14:58Speaker 7: not know Howard Cosell?
- 15:00Speaker 8: I know him by his picture.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Okay, no googling.
- 15:02Speaker 6: I'm gonna continue this down this path.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Well, I just you can.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Google after now googling after.
- 15:07Speaker 9: Yes, I'm just gonna throw out random names.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Okay, Thurman Thomas.
- 15:12Speaker 4: That name sounds familiar, Yet what do we know about him?
- 15:15Speaker 4: It's a football player?
- 15:16Speaker 3: What team? Bill's correct?
- 15:17Speaker 4: Did you know that?
- 15:18Speaker 6: Bimpil?
- 15:19Speaker 10: You not know that?
- 15:19Speaker 1: No? Okay, all right, Vinny Testaverdi, don't google.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yes, football player quarterback?
- 15:26Speaker 1: What's school?
- 15:27Speaker 11: Oh?
- 15:28Speaker 4: I want to say Florida State?
- 15:29Speaker 11: For some reason, Techacs Live brought to you by David
- 15:32Speaker 11: Gardner's Jewelers hang Out weekdays from eight to eleven on
- 15:35Speaker 11: the Zone.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Listen, babe, and no mountain and no ball.
- 15:49Speaker 4: No right enough, babe.
- 15:52Speaker 3: If you need me, call me, no matter why you off,
- 15:56Speaker 3: no matter how far nob come up. Name they're in.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back. Thanks for being with us. On a Tuesday.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Seems like a Monday for some of us, but it's
- 16:10Speaker 1: a Tuesday. As we mentioned, the Aggie baseball team, the
- 16:16Speaker 1: number twelve national seed, headed to the tourney Adelson Field
- 16:21Speaker 1: Friday afternoon, three o'clock against Lebar. First, we're going to
- 16:27Speaker 1: hear from head coach Michael Early.
- 16:30Speaker 10: So it's just your initial thoughts on being the twelve
- 16:33Speaker 10: seed after saying you thought your body of work deserved
- 16:36Speaker 10: to be a toppy.
- 16:37Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean I have my own opinions, but they
- 16:38Speaker 12: have a job to do and they did it and
- 16:41Speaker 12: it is what it is. We're excited to host a
- 16:42Speaker 12: regional at Bluebell Park and I just can't wait to
- 16:44Speaker 12: play ball.
- 16:45Speaker 13: What did you think of the field and just a
- 16:47Speaker 13: couple of teams that you're familiar with at least I've
- 16:49Speaker 13: played this season already.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean really quality teams.
- 16:52Speaker 12: We've played Lamar in Texas State, have a couple against
- 16:55Speaker 12: Texas State, So yeah, there's definitely some familiarity there. Definitely
- 16:58Speaker 12: different on a Tuesday first, so we can and so
- 17:00Speaker 12: will be a different challenge just with different pitchers going
- 17:03Speaker 12: for each team, but obviously really good teams that deserve
- 17:05Speaker 12: to be there.
- 17:06Speaker 4: And we're gonna have our hands full.
- 17:07Speaker 13: Does it help or hurt that you guys have some
- 17:10Speaker 13: familiarity with at least a couple of the teams in
- 17:12Speaker 13: your field.
- 17:13Speaker 12: I guess it's to be determined, but I mean from
- 17:15Speaker 12: a scouting standpoint, you played a lot of them early on,
- 17:17Speaker 12: so it completely changes how you look at it. So yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 12: I mean we're not playing it like that. It's just
- 17:21Speaker 12: I think it's just happens to work out that we
- 17:23Speaker 12: played them, So it's we're taking it out as a
- 17:25Speaker 12: new team because all those teams are different. I mean
- 17:27Speaker 12: we're a different team than we were then and so
- 17:29Speaker 12: are they. So all tough teams in UFC. Of course,
- 17:33Speaker 12: I've no coach Stanka. It's pretty good. Awesome coach, awesome staff.
- 17:37Speaker 12: So again, a lot of good teams in our regional.
- 17:39Speaker 13: You know, first our first selection process as a head
- 17:41Speaker 13: coach for you, what was today like for you and
- 17:43Speaker 13: the guys.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just proud.
- 17:45Speaker 12: I mean it's a lot of hard work, a lot
- 17:46Speaker 12: of hard work by them and the staff and just
- 17:48Speaker 12: getting us to this point and getting the regional back
- 17:50Speaker 12: at our home park.
- 17:51Speaker 4: So it's yeah, it's great, it's awesome. We're excited about it.
- 17:54Speaker 4: There's a yeah, we've we've had a really good season
- 17:57Speaker 4: and you know it's you get rewarded with a little
- 17:59Speaker 4: bit play home.
- 18:00Speaker 12: It means nothing, doesn't guarantee you anything, but just again,
- 18:03Speaker 12: we are fired up to be playing at home for sure.
- 18:05Speaker 14: Where's sins that kind of in his recovery and where
- 18:08Speaker 14: are you expect.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Yeah, he's been, he's been thrown every day.
- 18:11Speaker 12: His role will be to be determined on the weekend
- 18:13Speaker 12: because every day is a process.
- 18:14Speaker 4: But you know, again, he's been.
- 18:17Speaker 12: He's been playing catch since Thursday and throwing and getting
- 18:20Speaker 12: up on the mountain, so he's he's looking good right now.
- 18:22Speaker 10: You talk about being rewarded and getting to play at
- 18:24Speaker 10: home regional, what does home field advantage and playing at
- 18:27Speaker 10: Bluebell Park truly give you guys on the.
- 18:28Speaker 12: Wall, Yeah, I mean I think with our you know
- 18:31Speaker 12: us and only a few other places that your fan
- 18:33Speaker 12: base and crowd can give you an edge if you
- 18:36Speaker 12: if you use it the right way and the other
- 18:37Speaker 12: team doesn't handle it the right way.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Now, how they handle it, it's going to be up
- 18:40Speaker 4: to them.
- 18:40Speaker 12: But we have the experience of not trying to do
- 18:45Speaker 12: too much when the crowd's really into it, and we've
- 18:47Speaker 12: done a really good.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Job of that.
- 18:48Speaker 12: So playing in our place and again maybe one or
- 18:50Speaker 12: two others, to me, is always an advantage of why
- 18:53Speaker 12: we want to play here?
- 18:54Speaker 10: Then the earlier game of the two on Friday? What
- 18:56Speaker 10: what was? Why was it important to play there?
- 18:59Speaker 4: Yeah, just it's for a lot of reasons.
- 19:01Speaker 12: But if you look at you play, you play game
- 19:03Speaker 12: one because I think for us, I think, like I
- 19:07Speaker 12: said earlier, if we played a game at bluebellt Park
- 19:09Speaker 12: in the postseason eight am, like the fans are still
- 19:12Speaker 12: going to show up, like it doesn't matter it's Friday afternoon.
- 19:14Speaker 12: The other part is, like the strategic part, weather being won.
- 19:18Speaker 12: So this time of year, as you can see right now,
- 19:20Speaker 12: a ton of lightning, ton of rain. For some reason,
- 19:23Speaker 12: that first game is getting in first. And if you
- 19:25Speaker 12: get past that point and I believe it happened in
- 19:27Speaker 12: the Baton Rouge Regional last year with Cliff and DBU,
- 19:30Speaker 12: you have to play the next day. So if you
- 19:31Speaker 12: possibly playing two games in one day, doesn't mean it
- 19:34Speaker 12: can't happen as the first game, but you have a
- 19:36Speaker 12: way longer window to play. The other part is too,
- 19:39Speaker 12: if you know you happen to lose that game, it's
- 19:42Speaker 12: a twenty four hours as opposed to you play it
- 19:45Speaker 12: could possibly play a late night game into a day game.
- 19:48Speaker 12: So all factors to me make that easy decision, something
- 19:51Speaker 12: that I've learned in my time here, and I believe
- 19:53Speaker 12: it's the best way to go, you know.
- 19:54Speaker 4: The full season culmination to get to this point. Does
- 19:57Speaker 4: the message change at all? But what's kind of the
- 19:59Speaker 4: mindset message has not changed, does not change. We've played
- 20:03Speaker 4: pitch to pitch, game by game, inning the inning game.
- 20:06Speaker 4: I am in mentality all year in preparation for this.
- 20:09Speaker 12: So when you get into these situations where everything is
- 20:13Speaker 12: on the line, you just revert to what you have done,
- 20:17Speaker 12: so you don't change anything. If you're down, if you're up,
- 20:20Speaker 12: you play the same way the entire time. That's why
- 20:22Speaker 12: you do it. The whole year ship experience. Soon it
- 20:24Speaker 12: you don't come in to postseason play and oh, we
- 20:28Speaker 12: got to be a little better or this is that. No,
- 20:30Speaker 12: you just you just do what you've been trained to
- 20:32Speaker 12: do all season.
- 20:33Speaker 13: Like you said after the game against Auburn, and it's
- 20:35Speaker 13: maybe a little out of character performance by the offense.
- 20:37Speaker 13: Just how do you feel like you guys get back
- 20:39Speaker 13: into that regular where you were.
- 20:42Speaker 4: On the offensive side. Yeah, we just went back to work.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Like some of us.
- 20:45Speaker 12: A few guys we got in there even Saturday night
- 20:47Speaker 12: when we got back, we went home, got some lunch
- 20:49Speaker 12: and a few just got in there Saturday night and
- 20:51Speaker 12: just tweaking things. And the biggest thing is, you don't
- 20:53Speaker 12: there's no panic. Like I understand a lot that hitting
- 20:58Speaker 12: is hard, right, hitting is extreme hard, and sometimes you
- 21:01Speaker 12: just have games and those games can swing by a
- 21:04Speaker 12: pitch and they just didn't. So I that game gives
- 21:08Speaker 12: me no concern. It just gives us stuff to work
- 21:11Speaker 12: on and stuff to teach off of, which can be
- 21:13Speaker 12: a huge positive. Right you can Okay, hey we did this,
- 21:16Speaker 12: we did that.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Remember, we don't do that. We don't do this. This
- 21:19Speaker 4: is what we do, those type of things.
- 21:21Speaker 12: And just some mechanical adjustments with guys, I mean we
- 21:23Speaker 12: had we've had some.
- 21:25Speaker 4: You need at bats or as much as you can,
- 21:27Speaker 4: but you got to.
- 21:27Speaker 12: Try to simulate the game as much as you can
- 21:29Speaker 12: without getting guys hurt.
- 21:30Speaker 4: This late in the year, and we're doing a good
- 21:33Speaker 4: job of that.
- 21:33Speaker 14: This week deserve of silver lining of being one done
- 21:37Speaker 14: and getting that extra rest. And how do you feel
- 21:39Speaker 14: like you guys are just from the full roster, being
- 21:42Speaker 14: a little banged up and maybe having some of that
- 21:44Speaker 14: extra game.
- 21:45Speaker 12: I mean, there's part of it, but you never want
- 21:47Speaker 12: to lose, and you definitely never want to lose.
- 21:49Speaker 4: The way you lose.
- 21:50Speaker 12: So but to me, the silver lining would be how
- 21:52Speaker 12: we lost, and when we've lost like that all season,
- 21:55Speaker 12: what we've come.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Back and done after it. So you can draw negatives
- 21:59Speaker 4: and positives from everything. We take. The negative we address
- 22:01Speaker 4: those early.
- 22:02Speaker 12: But for me, I have comforted my team and what
- 22:04Speaker 12: they've done all year and just complete trust and their
- 22:07Speaker 12: ability to.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Call it, bounce back, respond whatever.
- 22:11Speaker 12: They've shown a gigantic body of work and being able
- 22:14Speaker 12: to do that.
- 22:14Speaker 13: You get a limit contact between Hutch and Jase this week.
- 22:18Speaker 12: That's a tough tough on them for sure, but no, no,
- 22:22Speaker 12: they're good man, excited for excited for Jase and their family.
- 22:26Speaker 12: And sure it's just a tough situation and really cool.
- 22:30Speaker 4: For them to be in.
- 22:31Speaker 12: But I'm sure tough, but yeah, I'm well Davis awesome, coach,
- 22:34Speaker 12: Chase over Jack Hargroug used to work here, coaches first base.
- 22:36Speaker 12: So happier for those guys to have a good season.
- 22:39Speaker 12: They've earned it and they worked really hard.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Where is at right now? We'll be playing. Yeah, I
- 22:45Speaker 4: he could have played.
- 22:46Speaker 12: He could have played Friday field was wet. I wasn't
- 22:52Speaker 12: playing him if it was, you know, Ady and Sonny,
- 22:55Speaker 12: just because I'm like, if he can play today and
- 22:57Speaker 12: this is the first day we really thought he could play,
- 22:59Speaker 12: then he'll thousand percent be ready in a week.
- 23:02Speaker 4: So he'll be playing.
- 23:03Speaker 3: All right.
- 23:04Speaker 1: That's Michael Early, and I hope you listen closely to
- 23:07Speaker 1: the explanation of why the Aggies are playing against three
- 23:10Speaker 1: o'clock on Friday. You're going three o'clock. Why don't we
- 23:14Speaker 1: play a night game? Well, he laid it out, you
- 23:17Speaker 1: know pretty clearly why they don't play a night game,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and most teams do the exact same thing that are hosting.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You'll see that across the board. Let's go ahead and
- 23:30Speaker 1: hear from Cayden Surrell.
- 23:32Speaker 13: Do you think of y'all's drawing just some of the
- 23:35Speaker 13: familiar faces that y'all.
- 23:37Speaker 14: Might see this weekend?
- 23:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought it was pretty good.
- 23:39Speaker 15: I mean, played some got some teams in there we've
- 23:41Speaker 15: already played and had success on them in the past,
- 23:44Speaker 15: so I think a great spot.
- 23:47Speaker 13: You know, what'd you see from that last performance I'll
- 23:49Speaker 13: had against Auburn and just how you feel like this
- 23:51Speaker 13: offense can get back into story.
- 23:53Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean we just didn't come out prepared. Could
- 23:58Speaker 15: have definitely taken it a little more. Are serious? I
- 24:01Speaker 15: mean had some guys kind of banged up, which didn't help.
- 24:03Speaker 15: But you know, gotta flush it and move on. That's
- 24:06Speaker 15: all we can do.
- 24:08Speaker 10: Then, what is what do you think this week of
- 24:09Speaker 10: preparation is going to look like compared to the last
- 24:11Speaker 10: week because it'll be a week between games both times.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean not a whole lot different.
- 24:16Speaker 15: I mean we always kind of practice with a lot
- 24:18Speaker 15: of intent, so should be kind of fine in that category. So,
- 24:22Speaker 15: you know, showing up every day having a lot of
- 24:24Speaker 15: intents and going forward from there.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Being somebody who's been in this position before.
- 24:29Speaker 13: What do you kind of import with some of the
- 24:31Speaker 13: arn't guys who have stepped in their first reason?
- 24:33Speaker 15: Yeah, I think it's just about not making it more
- 24:35Speaker 15: than it is. I mean, obviously very important games, you know,
- 24:38Speaker 15: it's postseason baseball, but you can't put too much stress
- 24:41Speaker 15: on yourself. You know, me as a freshman was definitely
- 24:44Speaker 15: pretty nervous, you know, showing up in postseason baseball, But
- 24:47Speaker 15: you know, just about not putting too much stress on yourself,
- 24:50Speaker 15: so surely.
- 24:50Speaker 14: Talked about those abilities to respond to losses this season.
- 24:54Speaker 14: What is it about this team that's been able to
- 24:56Speaker 14: kind of boust back from those losses, like we know
- 24:58Speaker 14: how to get saw Yeah.
- 24:59Speaker 15: I mean we've all year and you know, we've had
- 25:01Speaker 15: some series that we should have won, had a close
- 25:04Speaker 15: series with a couple h teams and conference that you know,
- 25:07Speaker 15: then't gar away and you know the next series where
- 25:09Speaker 15: I showed up.
- 25:10Speaker 4: So that's what we're gonna do.
- 25:11Speaker 15: We didn't show up against Aubura and then SEC Attorney,
- 25:14Speaker 15: But that's okay. It's not the end of the world,
- 25:16Speaker 15: and you know we're gonna show up in this region
- 25:18Speaker 15: and we're gonna endure our thing you know a.
- 25:20Speaker 13: Year ago this time just definitely some disappointment missing the tournament.
- 25:23Speaker 13: Just what was the biggest thing you saw from your
- 25:25Speaker 13: program and your team as a bole that y'all got
- 25:27Speaker 13: to be back to this stage and hosting a regional
- 25:29Speaker 13: this time around.
- 25:30Speaker 15: Yeah, I think just the consistency of our team. I mean, again,
- 25:34Speaker 15: like I kind of just said, you know, when we
- 25:36Speaker 15: lose a game, lose a series, you know, it doesn't
- 25:38Speaker 15: affect us too much. We show up the next day
- 25:41Speaker 15: to practice, we have high intent with it whatever we do,
- 25:43Speaker 15: and we go forward from there.
- 25:45Speaker 1: That is Caden Sorell. I don't think the NC double A,
- 25:49Speaker 1: did A and M a lot of favors with these
- 25:51Speaker 1: teams coming in here. I'll be honest with you. Uh,
- 25:54Speaker 1: this looks like a pretty hard regional to me. There's
- 25:57Speaker 1: some good pitching, there are some good teams, good programs.
- 26:01Speaker 1: We know that Texas State is good, They've already seen them.
- 26:08Speaker 1: They're what one and one this year against Texas State.
- 26:13Speaker 1: We know USC is good, we know they have pitching.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I think they wont forty games.
- 26:19Speaker 16: I believe.
- 26:23Speaker 1: I still don't. I saw this. I saw you, UCLA
- 26:27Speaker 1: and USC playing in the conference tournament last when I
- 26:31Speaker 1: was flipping channels.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I'm glad.
- 26:33Speaker 1: When I see that big ten logo, it just it
- 26:38Speaker 1: makes me dizzy. It makes my head hurt. When I
- 26:42Speaker 1: see Oregon and Washington and UCLA and USC under this
- 26:48Speaker 1: big ten logo, that just it makes my head hurt.
- 26:53Speaker 4: It's it's broken.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I mean, the whole system is badly, badly broken. But hey,
- 27:05Speaker 1: what do I know? You're still spending that thousands of
- 27:08Speaker 1: dollars worth of tickets and going and having a great time.

- 30:04Speaker 16: to four weekdays on the Zone.
- 30:23Speaker 11: Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley, and
- 30:26Speaker 11: today we are jumping out to the Polaris Fund Center
- 30:29Speaker 11: phone line to visit with the head coach of the
- 30:32Speaker 11: Midway Panthers softball team, Miss Jordan Williams. Coach, thanks for
- 30:35Speaker 11: joining me today, Yes, sir, it's been a fantastic season
- 30:40Speaker 11: for your lady Panthers so far, thirty five wins, undefeated
- 30:45Speaker 11: in district play. So what have been some of the
- 30:47Speaker 11: keys to success.
- 30:49Speaker 4: For your squad this year?
- 30:50Speaker 11: How are you able to continue to stay so consistent.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, pitching is a big part of our game.
- 30:56Speaker 3: You know, Peyton phillip Is is always a great one
- 31:00Speaker 3: to have on your team. You know, she equalizes a
- 31:02Speaker 3: lot of teams. And then you know, I'd say the
- 31:06Speaker 3: other part that has really jumped for us this year
- 31:08Speaker 3: is just being consistent at the plate. We have in
- 31:12Speaker 3: years past, we we've always been really good, but maybe
- 31:15Speaker 3: batters haven't been as consistent one through nine. And in
- 31:18Speaker 3: this year, our batting averages have dump jumped as a whole,
- 31:22Speaker 3: and where we would maybe have a slight drop off
- 31:25Speaker 3: towards the end of the lineup, you know, it's been
- 31:28Speaker 3: all of them are hitting well. And like I said, batting,
- 31:32Speaker 3: we have several kids over four hundred this year and
- 31:34Speaker 3: even you know, this past week our freshman third baseman
- 31:38Speaker 3: Riley Little in the nine hole, I think, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 3: went two for four or two for three, and you know,
- 31:44Speaker 3: that just makes a huge difference of turning the lineup
- 31:46Speaker 3: over and getting it to our power hitters essentially at
- 31:50Speaker 3: the top of the lineup.
- 31:52Speaker 11: Looking at the past seasons for Midway softball, it's been
- 31:55Speaker 11: just consistently, very very successful. Over there aready wins in
- 32:01Speaker 11: each of the last I believe five seasons. Haven't even
- 32:05Speaker 11: lost a district game since twenty twenty two. So what
- 32:08Speaker 11: what is it about your program that has allowed your
- 32:11Speaker 11: teams to consistently be at the top of the sport.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Well, I think credit our coaching staff. You know, there's
- 32:18Speaker 3: a lot of ups and downs throughout a high school season,
- 32:21Speaker 3: you know, with from and testing and kids being worn
- 32:24Speaker 3: out that's getting home late. But our coaching stuff does
- 32:28Speaker 3: a really good job of just making sure we don't
- 32:31Speaker 3: let those excuses kind of creep in. You know, everyone's tired,
- 32:34Speaker 3: and it's easy to fall into that trap. But you know,
- 32:38Speaker 3: we just find a way to always change up drills
- 32:40Speaker 3: and keep the girls on their toes and I think,
- 32:45Speaker 3: you know, God, it's hard to say we just don't
- 32:48Speaker 3: let them back off any It's so easy to get
- 32:51Speaker 3: in a rhythm, get in a rhythm, and then fall
- 32:54Speaker 3: off once we get too comfortable. And we're just making
- 32:56Speaker 3: sure the girls are never too comfortable, and we're changing
- 33:00Speaker 3: it up and just constantly pushing them to get the
- 33:02Speaker 3: most out of them. And you know, it's super easy
- 33:05Speaker 3: with a group like this because they all want to
- 33:07Speaker 3: do that with us anyway, And they don't want to
- 33:11Speaker 3: to kind of fall out of that good rhythm. They're
- 33:13Speaker 3: always pushing and even if we give them a day off,
- 33:15Speaker 3: you know, because seasons, i mean will be coming up
- 33:18Speaker 3: on almost right at six months come this Saturday. You know,
- 33:22Speaker 3: even when we give days off, the girls are asking like, hey,
- 33:24Speaker 3: can we go up there and hit? Can we is
- 33:26Speaker 3: the field going to be open at all? So we're
- 33:28Speaker 3: lucky to have such a group that that wants to
- 33:30Speaker 3: put in that work and they're never fighting us on
- 33:33Speaker 3: always pushing them just to get you know, it's not
- 33:35Speaker 3: even every ounce out of them, but it's just keeping
- 33:38Speaker 3: them in rhythm and staying consistent, and thankfully they love
- 33:41Speaker 3: to do that.
- 33:42Speaker 11: Last year, of course, winning the state title in six
- 33:46Speaker 11: A Division one, and you have a lot of girls
- 33:48Speaker 11: back from that team. How valuable has their experience been
- 33:52Speaker 11: in this postseason run.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Well, you know, it's just the maturity level of these kids.
- 33:58Speaker 3: You know, we do have a lot return learning and
- 34:01Speaker 3: you know, my freshman class starting in twenty twenty four,
- 34:05Speaker 3: they don't know anything but the state championship, and which
- 34:09Speaker 3: is just such a blessing because you know, nobody really
- 34:12Speaker 3: gets overly rattled. It's you know, we've been through a
- 34:15Speaker 3: ton of hard games. Our preseason every year is so tough,
- 34:18Speaker 3: and we face all these really tough teams early, then
- 34:21Speaker 3: we can make those adjustments to be prepared for them later,
- 34:24Speaker 3: you know. And just the I really do the growth
- 34:29Speaker 3: and maturity of some of these juniors and seniors that
- 34:31Speaker 3: we have is just you know, the old old phrases
- 34:35Speaker 3: ice in their veins, and I just never really see
- 34:38Speaker 3: that true paanic mode in any of them, which that
- 34:41Speaker 3: obviously carries over to these freshmen now that we have
- 34:46Speaker 3: starting in the lineup, and it just always seems like
- 34:48Speaker 3: they're ready for it, and there's constant talking and you know,
- 34:51Speaker 3: discussions throughout the game like hey, let's make these adjustments. Hey,
- 34:54Speaker 3: this is what I'm seeing. Let's try to approach it
- 34:56Speaker 3: this way. You know, we're we're tough as a coaching staff,
- 34:59Speaker 3: but these kids are so resilient and they know exactly
- 35:02Speaker 3: what we expect out of them. Then a lot of
- 35:04Speaker 3: times we don't even have to ask it before they're
- 35:06Speaker 3: already doing it, which obviously makes our job much easier.
- 35:09Speaker 3: And then it's at that point, it's just maintaining game
- 35:12Speaker 3: plan and executing it all week before we go into it.
- 35:16Speaker 11: The first four rounds of the playoffs for your Panthers,
- 35:20Speaker 11: swept your way through them, two to zero series wins
- 35:22Speaker 11: in each of those, and then last week against Flower Mound,
- 35:27Speaker 11: lost game one four to zero, got shut out, first
- 35:30Speaker 11: loss of the season since I think March. So how
- 35:33Speaker 11: are you able to respond to that and end up
- 35:35Speaker 11: with that series victory?
- 35:37Speaker 3: Well, you know, anything that we could have done wrong
- 35:41Speaker 3: on defense kind of showed game one, and you know
- 35:46Speaker 3: the punchline of that was, hey, you're allowed one bad game,
- 35:50Speaker 3: you still have two to work with, and we're a
- 35:53Speaker 3: hard team to beat two out of three times. And
- 35:56Speaker 3: you know, our bets went a little quiet defensively. I
- 35:59Speaker 3: think we were just off guard a little bit. But
- 36:03Speaker 3: you know it was just the next day like, hey,
- 36:06Speaker 3: this is what we got to do. If you if
- 36:07Speaker 3: you do what you typically do, play, make all the
- 36:10Speaker 3: plays on defense, and have the hot bats like we've had,
- 36:12Speaker 3: you know, you're gonna be tough to beat. And so
- 36:15Speaker 3: we didn't really dwell. There was no dwelling, and that
- 36:17Speaker 3: was you know, kind of the speech that we had
- 36:19Speaker 3: to give because that's not going to help us get
- 36:21Speaker 3: to where we want to be. And it was more like, hey,
- 36:24Speaker 3: find your game again. Everyone again, Like you said, you know,
- 36:27Speaker 3: we haven't lost in so long. It could have been
- 36:29Speaker 3: a what in the world is happening, but it was
- 36:32Speaker 3: We've been here, we know what to expect, and you
- 36:35Speaker 3: know it sounds wild. The exact same scenario happened last
- 36:38Speaker 3: year for us to advance the state, and I think
- 36:41Speaker 3: that also gave the girls a little bit of confidence
- 36:43Speaker 3: knowing like, yes, Slyer Mound is, you know, one of
- 36:46Speaker 3: the top teams every year, but we did it last
- 36:49Speaker 3: year and you know, for them, it was almost the
- 36:50Speaker 3: exact same group that we face. So I think that
- 36:54Speaker 3: gave the girls some confidence too going into it, like hey,
- 36:57Speaker 3: just take a deep breath. We had graduation Friday night
- 37:00Speaker 3: and Saturday morning we got there and I just asked,
- 37:03Speaker 3: you know, all the girls that had graduated, like, hey,
- 37:05Speaker 3: how are we feeling, And they all just said, man,
- 37:07Speaker 3: I just feel free. Like now we get to you know,
- 37:09Speaker 3: we just get to focus on softball. And that's what
- 37:12Speaker 3: it looked like we did. They just played with a
- 37:14Speaker 3: sense of freedom that not even that we haven't been
- 37:17Speaker 3: able to play with. It was just different. The plays
- 37:20Speaker 3: and double plays that we made on defense and our
- 37:24Speaker 3: right fielder Taylor casts In making the dive and play
- 37:27Speaker 3: in the hole. You know, against most teams, those balls
- 37:30Speaker 3: are going to fall. So when our kids are on,
- 37:33Speaker 3: you know, they're just they're just really hard to beat.
- 37:36Speaker 11: So this Saturday at mccomb's Field in Austin, your lady
- 37:42Speaker 11: Panthers will be taking on Paarland in the sixth A
- 37:44Speaker 11: Division one State championship. What's it going to take for
- 37:47Speaker 11: you to come away with your second straight state title.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, same thing we've been doing. We just we got
- 37:52Speaker 3: to keep attacking the ball. You know, Game two and
- 37:54Speaker 3: three we accumulated twenty three runs, which is wild to
- 37:59Speaker 3: do and state semi final finals against the pitching that
- 38:03Speaker 3: we're doing. So it's when we're attacking the ball, we're
- 38:06Speaker 3: just you know, uh, Peyton took quite a few home
- 38:09Speaker 3: runs this postseason, but we're really not a big home
- 38:12Speaker 3: run hitting team. We hit a lot of singles, a
- 38:14Speaker 3: lot of doubles, and we just execute with the speed
- 38:17Speaker 3: that we have and you know a lot of times
- 38:20Speaker 3: that puts more pressure on teams than worrying about the
- 38:22Speaker 3: long ball. So you know, we're gonna stick with what
- 38:26Speaker 3: we've been doing. Just keep hitting the ball, put in
- 38:28Speaker 3: play hard and you know, make the defense, make make
- 38:31Speaker 3: the big plays and execute when they don't.
- 38:34Speaker 11: All right, coach, well, I appreciate your time today. Good
- 38:36Speaker 11: luck in the state championship game this Saturday.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Thank you.

- 42:42Speaker 1: years young. Today had a chance to catch up with
- 42:47Speaker 1: supermodel Kim Alexis. She has a new podcast called Unexpired.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Visited with her late last week. Kim, how are you?
- 42:57Speaker 4: I'm well?
- 42:58Speaker 24: How are you?
- 42:59Speaker 10: I'm great?
- 42:59Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your time. I really enjoyed
- 43:02Speaker 1: this and I'm thinking here that you have defied a
- 43:08Speaker 1: lot of constrictions over the years, and I think that
- 43:13Speaker 1: takes a lot of discipline, and it takes a lot
- 43:16Speaker 1: of hard work, does it not?
- 43:18Speaker 24: It does, But it also takes a mindset that says, hey,
- 43:21Speaker 24: just because they said I can't do it, doesn't mean
- 43:24Speaker 24: I can't. So it was really trying new things and
- 43:28Speaker 24: being not afraid of whatever that could turn out to be.
- 43:34Speaker 24: So it's okay to make mistakes and it's okay to
- 43:36Speaker 24: try And my parents raised me that way, and I
- 43:40Speaker 24: think I'm still doing it today. Starting a podcast at sixty.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Five, I think I read you were a competitive swimmer.
- 43:47Speaker 1: How much did athletics play it just in terms of
- 43:50Speaker 1: that discipline and all kinds of things that you learned
- 43:53Speaker 1: when you're doing that.
- 43:55Speaker 24: I look back and BOYD did competition and swimming. Number one,
- 43:59Speaker 24: you have to show up. Number two, you have to practice.
- 44:02Speaker 24: If you want to be good, you have to practice hard.
- 44:04Speaker 24: I learned so much and it carried into what I
- 44:09Speaker 24: am and who I am now. Even that self confidence,
- 44:12Speaker 24: like knowing that you can get up on the block
- 44:14Speaker 24: and you might have been nervous at the starting line,
- 44:17Speaker 24: but once that gun went off. It's like, okay, what
- 44:19Speaker 24: if I learned when I was by myself in the
- 44:21Speaker 24: pool and a lot of what we do you do,
- 44:25Speaker 24: what everyone does is we do a lot of stuff
- 44:27Speaker 24: in private, and then what how do we get in public?
- 44:31Speaker 24: Or how do we go and put that to the
- 44:33Speaker 24: test in a corporate setting or whatever it is? And
- 44:36Speaker 24: it's all that preparation. And that's what the show brings
- 44:40Speaker 24: out is finding all these different people like what were
- 44:42Speaker 24: you thinking back when you were a kid, and how
- 44:45Speaker 24: did you get through this? And what did you go
- 44:47Speaker 24: to college? And what was your thoughts there and how
- 44:50Speaker 24: did you get from this point to this point? And
- 44:52Speaker 24: that's what I love. So that's what I love bringing
- 44:54Speaker 24: out in the show.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Well, the let me mention that the name of the
- 44:58Speaker 1: podcast is Unexposed Hired, which I love. What have you
- 45:02Speaker 1: learned talking to some of these very successful people that
- 45:05Speaker 1: you've already interviewed.
- 45:07Speaker 24: And I've interviewed twenty three so far. What I've learned
- 45:11Speaker 24: is that number One, you've got to show up. You've
- 45:15Speaker 24: got to put in the hard work. It's not like
- 45:17Speaker 24: these influences where you just do these little things and
- 45:20Speaker 24: you're going to have this great life for the rest
- 45:22Speaker 24: of your life. I think that's going to fade out.
- 45:24Speaker 24: And so you've got to develop skills. You've got to
- 45:27Speaker 24: have things to be able to sit on, to be
- 45:30Speaker 24: able to rest on, and be able to move ahead.
- 45:34Speaker 24: And so this drive in, this wanting to do well
- 45:39Speaker 24: or you're either proven it to yourself or you're proving
- 45:41Speaker 24: it to other people. Something gives you that goal of
- 45:45Speaker 24: where you want to be, and it's something inside of us.
- 45:49Speaker 24: And each person has something different and they handle it differently.
- 45:52Speaker 24: You've got some that have bad life problems and they
- 45:55Speaker 24: may have had some accident or something something to happen,
- 46:00Speaker 24: and then how excuse me, how do you pivot from them?
- 46:04Speaker 24: How do you get up, dust yourself off and say,
- 46:07Speaker 24: you know what, I'm not done yet. I'm getting back
- 46:09Speaker 24: in the fight.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Who's surprised you? Of the guests that you've had on.
- 46:16Speaker 24: I loved hearing all of these stories. Most of these
- 46:19Speaker 24: guys so far and women have been friends of mine,
- 46:22Speaker 24: So okay. I love being able to celebrate them and
- 46:25Speaker 24: really read through their old bio and see, Oh my gosh,
- 46:28Speaker 24: I didn't know they did that. Oh my gosh, I
- 46:30Speaker 24: know they did so there's so many. One story that
- 46:35Speaker 24: comes to mind is Dan Janssen and when he went
- 46:38Speaker 24: through his gold medal problem. A lot of us watched
- 46:41Speaker 24: him fall. A lot of us saw that he was
- 46:44Speaker 24: heartbroken when he didn't get his gold medal after his
- 46:46Speaker 24: sister had died, and then this whole story of how
- 46:49Speaker 24: he gets back up. He's got to wait four years, right,
- 46:52Speaker 24: He's got all these different Olympics that he's done. He's
- 46:54Speaker 24: finally at his last one and he had to he
- 46:58Speaker 24: fell on his favorite of the two events. So he
- 47:01Speaker 24: has one event left, and instead of just giving up,
- 47:05Speaker 24: he got not only the gold medal, but he broke
- 47:07Speaker 24: the Olympic record or the world record or both.
- 47:10Speaker 1: When you were coming up in the seventies and eighties,
- 47:17Speaker 1: I think it's safe to say there wasn't quite as
- 47:20Speaker 1: much emphasis on long term health and on how you
- 47:25Speaker 1: ate and how you took care of yourself. How did
- 47:28Speaker 1: that come to you because you have always had that.
- 47:33Speaker 24: I think, well, Number one, I wanted to be a pharmacist,
- 47:36Speaker 24: So I think one of my thought processes is if
- 47:40Speaker 24: you do this, this happens, you get this result, right,
- 47:43Speaker 24: cause and effect, And so I started using that as
- 47:48Speaker 24: a model. I'm eighteen, and we're doing these little juice
- 47:51Speaker 24: fests and these cleanses, and I'm doing all these facials,
- 47:54Speaker 24: and I'm thinking, oh my goodness, I'm eighteen.
- 47:56Speaker 8: Why do I need to do that?
- 47:58Speaker 24: But it was just it became part of protecting what
- 48:01Speaker 24: I had. And I also was because I was a swimmer,
- 48:06Speaker 24: swimming five and a half hours a day. I was
- 48:08Speaker 24: five 'ot ten, one hundred and forty five pounds and
- 48:10Speaker 24: they told me I had to lose fifteen pounds. Why
- 48:13Speaker 24: do you How did you do that healthily? And as
- 48:16Speaker 24: we didn't have health food stores, we didn't have an
- 48:18Speaker 24: awful lot of health clubs even and so I had
- 48:21Speaker 24: to learn how do I still eat? Because you have
- 48:24Speaker 24: to eat or you're going to die? And so how
- 48:27Speaker 24: do I eat? And how do I maintain what I
- 48:29Speaker 24: have and still be vital and healthy and thin and
- 48:34Speaker 24: not you know fucking away?
- 48:37Speaker 1: Well, I do know in the seventies and maybe a
- 48:41Speaker 1: little into the eighties, people were putting things in their
- 48:44Speaker 1: bodies other than juice.
- 48:47Speaker 24: Well, I did the Atkins diet, so I was all protein.
- 48:50Speaker 24: And they're like, oh, well, if you want a little
- 48:52Speaker 24: snack and if you're hungry have bacon.
- 48:54Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't want bacon.
- 48:55Speaker 24: I want.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Sports Illustrated. How big was that for your career?
- 49:04Speaker 24: It rounded out my career. It gave me a new audience.
- 49:09Speaker 24: Fifty percent of the audience's men. And I think a
- 49:12Speaker 24: lot of we're not reading Glamour, Vogue, Mademoiselle. Yes, all
- 49:16Speaker 24: the different publications, right, but they certainly were looking at
- 49:19Speaker 24: the Sports Illustrated, and Sports Illustrated put our names on
- 49:22Speaker 24: the pictures. So I think that it put a name
- 49:24Speaker 24: to a face.
- 49:25Speaker 1: You talked about the fact that you have talked to
- 49:31Speaker 1: all of these people that are really successful in the
- 49:35Speaker 1: things that they've done. You mentioned showing up and working.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Is there another common thread that you've learned from all
- 49:43Speaker 1: these successful people.
- 49:45Speaker 24: I think that you've got to believe in yourself. So
- 49:48Speaker 24: what comes to mind when you said that is I
- 49:50Speaker 24: also interviewed a young girl who was in a cult.
- 49:54Speaker 24: She was born in a cult. Her dad had six wives,
- 49:57Speaker 24: she had twenty three brothers and sisters, and she ended
- 50:00Speaker 24: up leaving. She said to her mother at sixteen, I'm
- 50:02Speaker 24: not going back to church. And so this fascinating story
- 50:07Speaker 24: of a young woman who just wanted something different. And
- 50:13Speaker 24: now when she looks back, she's still close with all
- 50:15Speaker 24: of her family. Some are still in the cult and
- 50:18Speaker 24: some is not. We call it a cult, she I
- 50:20Speaker 24: guess they don't. But her dad has divorced and has
- 50:23Speaker 24: remarried and living a as we call a normal life.
- 50:28Speaker 24: So it's just interesting that drive, that this young girl
- 50:32Speaker 24: at sixteen said no, I don't want to do things
- 50:34Speaker 24: that way. I'm going to do things this way. And
- 50:36Speaker 24: I think that's what makes the world go wrong, that's around,
- 50:39Speaker 24: that's what gives us inventions. That's what finding and pushing
- 50:43Speaker 24: the limit of what is existing and what our mindset is.
- 50:47Speaker 24: And so I think all of that becomes very important
- 50:50Speaker 24: and needs to be celebrated.
- 50:52Speaker 1: The podcast is called Unexpired. You can find it where
- 50:56Speaker 1: all good podcasts are found. Kim Alexis ke thank thank
