- 0:22Speaker 3: Live from New York, Michigan, and Idaho. This is TrekCast,
- 0:29Speaker 3: the galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Very unpredictable this morning.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Today on the show, we are going to be reviewing
- 0:38Speaker 3: the episode Off Hour. Plus, we've got listener feedback and
- 0:45Speaker 3: Star Trek news. I said that backwards. And now, I'm
- 0:48Speaker 3: Scott Bowders. And now, just back from William Shatner's protection detail,
- 0:54Speaker 3: because of the Grim Reaper's busy week, it's Dan Lombardo
- 0:59Speaker 3: and Daniel Reyes.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:05Speaker 5: It has been nuts with the celebrity passings.
- 1:07Speaker 2: We lost some celebrities this week.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Who was it? Dolly Parton? Yeah, briefly go down the list.
- 1:15Speaker 3: We lost Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and Peter Cullen.
- 1:22Speaker 5: And then the week before, Hannah Panettiere. Yep, that's right.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It's crazy. Shatner's hiding under a sheet in his.
- 1:33Speaker 5: He's like, you won't get me!
- 1:39Speaker 3: I was thinking about Six Degrees of Separation. Hayden Panettiere
- 1:44Speaker 3: was in Heroes with Spock. And, of course, Peter Cullen
- 1:51Speaker 3: voiced Optimus Prime. And, of course, in the third movie,
- 1:59Speaker 3: Sentinel Prime was voiced by Leonard Nimoy.
- 2:02Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Leonard Nimoy was the voice of Galvatron in the 1986 movie.
- 2:08Speaker 1: transformers animated movie so it's an even closer.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Uh yeah okay yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 1: The movie was.
- 2:18Speaker 5: I'm sorry optimus prime famously died.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah yeah he was also the voice of car k-a-r-r
- 2:29Speaker 1: oh yeah it was kit's nemesis on night rider that's
- 2:33Speaker 1: right That connects to David Hasselhoff. David Hasselhoff was in
- 2:39Speaker 1: one of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which connects
- 2:43Speaker 1: him to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which everyone was in. So, yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 2: That's right. That's right.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You're talking about degrees of separation. It's crazy. It's pretty easy.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Which Kevin Bacon was in the Guardians of the Galaxy
- 2:58Speaker 1: holiday special. And once you get to Kevin Bacon, you
- 3:02Speaker 1: can get to anyone.
- 3:03Speaker 5: That's right.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That's right.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 3:05Speaker 5: The bacon connects us all.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yes, we're all connected by the bacon.
- 3:10Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Yeah, Jacob says Bill's shields are up.
- 3:15Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Yeah. And Pablo says Dolly Parton was a legend. Yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 5: for sure.
- 3:21Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 3: And, you know, yeah, Jacob says Dolly was in the
- 3:26Speaker 3: Orville as well. It's one of the first things I
- 3:28Speaker 3: thought of when I heard she passed. She was in
- 3:30Speaker 3: the Orville?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 5: She was.
- 3:33Speaker 2: She was featured in two episodes. Her, her music was
- 3:36Speaker 2: featured in one episode.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 5: They did like a cabin where she like has a
- 3:41Speaker 5: big speech.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah. So, um, it's a whole Machlin, um, uh, storyline with.
- 3:48Speaker 1: The, yes, yes, yes, yes. Be like Dolly.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yes.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:54Speaker 7: Yep.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I can't believe I forgot that.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 10: Yes.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Somebody had her on the holiday.
- 3:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 1: They like quote her, uh, her song. during the closing
- 4:03Speaker 1: argument in quarters or something.
- 4:05Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 6: Right.
- 4:06Speaker 3: And then the next episode that she's in, she's actually
- 4:09Speaker 3: there and, and she serves as like to, to inspire this, this, uh,
- 4:14Speaker 3: female Mocklin, you know, this revolutionary to keep fighting the
- 4:18Speaker 3: good fight. And she appears in the form of like
- 4:20Speaker 3: a hologram type of thing. And it was funny. Cause I,
- 4:23Speaker 3: I watched the, I listened to the, uh, to Dolly Parton's, um, um,
- 4:30Speaker 3: She did an interview about that episode, and she's like,
- 4:34Speaker 3: I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing or why
- 4:37Speaker 3: I was there, but I was talking to this woman
- 4:41Speaker 3: that was in this rubber mask, and it was really
- 4:45Speaker 3: fun to do, and Seth was great.
- 4:49Speaker 1: She's like, I don't know what I was doing, but
- 4:50Speaker 1: the nerds loved it. The nerds loved it.
- 4:52Speaker 5: That's right. She's like, my grandkids said it was fun,
- 4:55Speaker 5: so we did it. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah, she seems
- 5:00Speaker 5: like she was a really nice, sweet person.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And beloved by pretty much everyone. Yeah, yeah. I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 2: when you get.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Barack Obama and Donald Trump to basically say the same
- 5:17Speaker 3: thing about the same person.
- 5:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:21Speaker 2: You know that.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You're either Dolly Parton or Osama Bin Laden.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:25Speaker 5: That's right, that's right. You're either really good or really bad.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Right. That's about it.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 6: Oh, well.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Dolly was a big philanthropist. She gave away millions for education.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Dolly Parton Foundation.
- 5:44Speaker 1: She gave away books. Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 2: A lot of them.
- 5:48Speaker 1: You can't get any better than, you know, hey, I'm
- 5:51Speaker 1: going to give away books to kids. Yes.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 1: My sister is a teacher. And first thing she said
- 5:57Speaker 1: after she passed is, you know, books. Every summer, my
- 6:01Speaker 1: kids would go to the mailbox to get the books
- 6:03Speaker 1: from Dolly Parton.
- 6:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 6:06Speaker 6: Yep.
- 6:07Speaker 2: So it kind of makes you wonder, like, gee, Daniel,
- 6:11Speaker 2: what have you done with your life?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Geez.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Oh, you're putting the spotlight on me.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Geez.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like I look at somebody like Dolly Parton,
- 6:19Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, my goodness, I haven't done crap.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 5: She's done quite a bit.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 5: I was listening to an interview with her and she
- 6:30Speaker 5: was talking about her husband because most people didn't know
- 6:31Speaker 5: who he was because he completely stayed out of the
- 6:34Speaker 5: spotlight because he was just a regular guy. And apparently
- 6:38Speaker 5: when they first started getting famous, he was out there
- 6:41Speaker 5: mowing the yard and fans would come to their house
- 6:44Speaker 5: and they were like, are you Dolly Parton's husband? He's like,
- 6:47Speaker 5: do I look like I'm married to Dolly Parton?
- 6:48Speaker 1: Was she just.
- 6:56Speaker 3: My wife asked me, like, was she married and how
- 6:59Speaker 3: many times?
- 7:00Speaker 2: I didn't know.
- 7:02Speaker 3: She seemed like the type of person, like a big
- 7:05Speaker 3: country star. I figured she'd probably just been married a
- 7:07Speaker 3: bunch of times.
- 7:09Speaker 5: You know, I don't know. I really don't know.
- 7:11Speaker 10: No.
- 7:12Speaker 1: No, they were together for decades from.
- 7:14Speaker 5: What I remember.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Really?
- 7:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:16Speaker 5: All right.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Well, good on her.
- 7:18Speaker 5: I'm not a country music fan. I don't know these things.
- 7:22Speaker 2: This is not my style of music.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I wasn't a country music fan of that genre, not,
- 7:26Speaker 3: you know, back in the day, but yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So yeah, she will be missed.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'm strictly a gangster rap and mariachi.
- 7:37Speaker 2: That's it.
- 7:37Speaker 5: That's me.
- 7:40Speaker 1: And the occasional crossover album.
- 7:41Speaker 5: That's right. That's right. That's right.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Something that weird outputs out.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Jasmine. She was awesome. Yeah, for sure, man. Welcome to Dollycast, everybody.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Welcome to Dollycast.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Welcome to Dollycast.
- 7:56Speaker 5: All right. Well, let's hard turn and probably get to
- 7:59Speaker 5: the news.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 8:00Speaker 5: All right.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Star Trek news.
- 8:05Speaker 5: All right. So our first news story comes to us
- 8:08Speaker 5: from Culture.com. And, you know, I just wanted to keep
- 8:11Speaker 5: an eye on things and see what's going on. So
- 8:13Speaker 5: let's see what's up with the mount. All right. All right,
- 8:20Speaker 5: so Culture.com recently did an article. For those of you
- 8:23Speaker 5: who don't know, right now there is a big court
- 8:26Speaker 5: case between several states' attorney generals and the Writers Guild
- 8:30Speaker 5: of America versus the upcoming Paramount merger, and they don't
- 8:36Speaker 5: want it to happen, and so there's going to be
- 8:38Speaker 5: a lawsuit. And one of the things talked about is
- 8:42Speaker 5: that maybe if some cable companies get sold off, like
- 8:47Speaker 5: CNN and maybe some other ones, That might allow the
- 8:50Speaker 5: merger to go through. So culture.org did an article about like,
- 8:56Speaker 5: all right, well, who's going to buy these networks if
- 8:59Speaker 5: someone's going to do it, right? Who's going to buy it? Overall,
- 9:03Speaker 5: their big estimate is that it'll be private equity firms
- 9:06Speaker 5: who go around and buy them. That seems to be
- 9:10Speaker 5: the going theory. We don't know for sure. We don't
- 9:13Speaker 5: know who the buyers are, if there are buyers. But
- 9:17Speaker 5: a big thing to watch for is starting October 1st,
- 9:22Speaker 5: Paramount has to pay Warner Brothers $ 7 million a day
- 9:27Speaker 5: for every day that this deal does not go through,
- 9:30Speaker 5: which is crazy.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So....
- 9:34Speaker 5: David Zaslav was smart to get.
- 9:35Speaker 1: That in there. Or they abandon the deal.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Or they can abandon the deal, too.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Is that how they get out of paying the $ 7 million? Say,
- 9:42Speaker 1: all right, we're out?
- 9:44Speaker 5: There is also a breakup fee on top of that, though.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Zaslav was like, I'm going to get that money one
- 9:52Speaker 5: way or the other.
- 9:53Speaker 3: So so they're okay so they're talking about getting rid
- 9:55Speaker 3: of like little like smaller like little.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Things that they own so that they're.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Not this is just speculation right now it's not anyone
- 10:05Speaker 5: nobody has proposed for sure this is.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Political cnn is the big one they.
- 10:09Speaker 9: Don't want that's the thought right that if they control
- 10:13Speaker 9: of of this yeah yeah that's the thought at least
- 10:18Speaker 9: but I'll, I'll laugh my ass off if they're like,
- 10:20Speaker 9: all right, we got to go through and we sold
- 10:22Speaker 9: off home and garden network.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Right. Right. Yeah. Well, let's, let's start looking into it.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I mean, what, what's in the track cast slush fund.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Grab the home.
- 10:35Speaker 5: We might be able to get a, you know, a
- 10:37Speaker 5: court TV.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 2: There you go. There you go.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 1: If we're buying a TV station, It's PBS.
- 10:46Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 1: That's all we're getting. Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 5: What if we could call it the Phaser Broadcasting System?
- 10:52Speaker 1: There you go.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Hey, Dan already has a couple of Muppets, so we've
- 10:57Speaker 2: got to start.
- 10:57Speaker 7: Yeah, there we go.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 10:59Speaker 5: We're set.
- 11:00Speaker 4: All right.
- 11:00Speaker 5: So that's that story.
- 11:03Speaker 1: All right.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Our next news story comes to us from Variety. It's
- 11:07Speaker 5: one of the trade magazines for Hollywood. And I don't
- 11:11Speaker 5: know if you guys saw this, but some Star Trek stars...
- 11:15Speaker 5: inked a pretty lucrative podcast deal with Podcast One. So
- 11:20Speaker 5: actors Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes have inked a deal
- 11:24Speaker 5: for their podcast, dropping names. We don't know how much
- 11:29Speaker 5: they're going to get, but Podcast One has acquired the
- 11:33Speaker 5: rights to distribute and put ads in the podcast. So
- 11:38Speaker 5: if you listen to this show, it's going to get
- 11:41Speaker 5: a lot more ads pretty soon. Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 2: It's a good show.
- 11:47Speaker 5: It's a good show.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 5: It's got, it's got over 3 million downloads with just
- 11:50Speaker 5: 15 episodes. So it's pretty popular. So they've had a
- 11:55Speaker 5: lot of big guest stars and you know, the, the
- 11:57Speaker 5: clips of it go pretty viral pretty quickly.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Yeah. It's a fun show. I don't know if you
- 12:04Speaker 5: guys have watched it or listened to it, but yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 5: it's pretty good.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 5: So, I thought that was neat. And then our last
- 12:18Speaker 5: new story comes to us from Cleveland.com. You know, that
- 12:24Speaker 5: lucrative website.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Oh, not that Cleveland?
- 12:28Speaker 5: No, no, no, not that Cleveland. But the new Star
- 12:33Speaker 5: Trek Bridge Lego set is set to be dropping soon.
- 12:37Speaker 5: I believe it comes out, yeah, September 1st. And this
- 12:40Speaker 5: is a 1,701 piece set. This will be the bridge
- 12:45Speaker 5: and the transporter. Get a bunch of new minifigs. Perfect
- 12:48Speaker 5: to go with your D that you're constructing right now.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Right, right, yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:55Speaker 2: We do have plans for it. We haven't started it yet.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Yeah. The cost on this one is $ 200, basically. So,
- 13:05Speaker 5: I mean, the D sold out pretty quick. I imagine
- 13:08Speaker 5: this is going to sell out pretty quick, too. And it's, like,
- 13:12Speaker 5: there's a Tribble... minifig and there's a bunch of other ones. So, uh,
- 13:17Speaker 5: a bunch of other ones.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Do you think they added or subtracted to get the
- 13:21Speaker 2: number to 1,701? Oh God. Yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 1: They just, they just, instead of using a six peg piece,
- 13:30Speaker 1: they used two, three peg pieces. Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah. It's pretty easy.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Something like that. Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 5: They just, they wanted to get it to 1701.
- 13:38Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Um, But yeah, so if you're into Legos and into
- 13:44Speaker 5: Star Trek, there you go. People can get those things.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I wonder, you know, people are using AI for just
- 13:51Speaker 1: about everything.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: There's got to be an app out there where you
- 13:56Speaker 1: can upload a picture of something and it just creates
- 14:00Speaker 1: Lego plans for you to recreate it via Lego. Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And if there needs to be.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Well, I don't know. My nephews are really, really into Lego.
- 14:12Speaker 5: So I know that there are websites where you can
- 14:16Speaker 5: find designs for things that they don't make Lego sets for.
- 14:20Speaker 9: Right.
- 14:20Speaker 5: So like if you want, I don't know, a Star
- 14:23Speaker 5: Destroyer and you don't have all the pieces, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 5: you don't buy the set, but you can get the,
- 14:27Speaker 5: you know, layouts. So I imagine there's something.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Yeah. So.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Oh, Jasmine says I should be getting that tomorrow. He's
- 14:39Speaker 5: going to get the Lego bridge. Wow. It's Tuesday, not tomorrow.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, he's getting it tomorrow.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Okay.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Tomorrow. All right.
- 14:49Speaker 5: All right.
- 14:50Speaker 2: He's got the inside track.
- 14:51Speaker 5: There you go. Jacob Lego episode. Why not?
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 5: We already need puppets. Why not?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 5: There you go.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 5: That's right.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Tuesday.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 15:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 10: I was right.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Uh, uh, All right. Well, uh, yeah, that's all the news.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Should we get to the main topic?
- 15:17Speaker 1: Sure. Yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Fun will now commence.
- 15:26Speaker 5: All right. So our main topic, uh, post side adventure.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Basically die hard.
- 15:34Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 5: Star Trek. Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah. What is it?
- 15:35Speaker 5: Uh, Strangers in the World Season 4, Episode 6, Off Hour.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Off Hour.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Yeah, a real-time adventure. Just like the old 24 show.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't put that together. That's the genre.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's the genre.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Yeah. Wild Bill, best of the season. Yeah, you know what?
- 16:02Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 5: You're not wrong.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I don't know if it's the best, this one and
- 16:05Speaker 1: the dinosaur episode. Everything else.
- 16:09Speaker 5: I have a soft spot for 24, so yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Yeah, for me. But yeah, so this was a real-time adventure.
- 16:19Speaker 5: The whole episode, real-time meaning one minute on the show
- 16:22Speaker 5: was one minute for the characters. And so the whole
- 16:26Speaker 5: episode took place in like 45 minutes or whatever. Oh, Jacob,
- 16:30Speaker 5: this should have been episode two. Yeah, I mean, you
- 16:35Speaker 5: could argue that.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 5: What was the premise? Do you guys want to get
- 16:44Speaker 5: into that?
- 16:45Speaker 1: The premise was Technobabble ship going too fast. Technobabble ship
- 16:52Speaker 1: is approaching ultimate warp speed, whatever they were calling it.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And when it crosses this threshold, they're all going to die. Yeah.
- 17:02Speaker 1: But not really, because they don't realize they'll just turn
- 17:04Speaker 1: into salamanders.
- 17:05Speaker 5: That's right.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And Banga gets injured when some furniture shifts. In the sickbay.
- 17:12Speaker 1: He's basically cut in half. His legs are broken. His
- 17:16Speaker 1: pelvis is broken. And the piece of furniture is holding
- 17:19Speaker 1: his organs.
- 17:21Speaker 2: In place.
- 17:23Speaker 1: There's a. Deputy chief medical officer. Who just transferred back.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Onto the ship. Because we saw him in the cage.
- 17:34Speaker 7: He.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Orders Chapel to come assist him. She defies his orders.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And stays to help Mbenga. even though it's fairly certain
- 17:43Speaker 1: that he's going to die. Everyone else is working to
- 17:47Speaker 1: slow the ship down, working to survive while all different
- 17:51Speaker 1: systems are failing. And yeah, that's basically.
- 17:57Speaker 5: It. Chazbiz says, bolt the furniture down, please. Yeah, that
- 18:02Speaker 5: was the one thing I was like, we don't do
- 18:04Speaker 5: that here? What's going on?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Well, even at the beginning of the episode when they're
- 18:09Speaker 3: organizing sickbay and putting everything in its place, I'm like,
- 18:12Speaker 3: do you have any idea how many times this ship
- 18:14Speaker 3: gets battered back and forth?
- 18:17Speaker 2: I'm like, come on.
- 18:19Speaker 3: You got to treat this like a yacht, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 3: or a sailboat. Everything's always, like, bolted down or in
- 18:27Speaker 3: a cubby or, you know.
- 18:28Speaker 5: And it made me think, too, like, okay, so we
- 18:33Speaker 5: often see the ship get attacked and, like, everything shakes
- 18:35Speaker 5: and everything. And I never thought about, yeah, the poor
- 18:38Speaker 5: people in sickbay that are just shaking around nowhere to
- 18:41Speaker 5: like hold themselves or brace themselves.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:44Speaker 5: Like even on a plane, the, the, the stewardess has
- 18:47Speaker 5: got that little seat that they can strap themselves into
- 18:49Speaker 5: if they need to.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 18:54Speaker 5: So like they needed something, but.
- 18:58Speaker 1: So what'd you think about this, this storyline with, uh,
- 19:03Speaker 1: Banga looking like he's going to die. And then he survives.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I didn't like it for two reasons. Number one, I
- 19:11Speaker 2: get the catastrophic injury.
- 19:14Speaker 3: And that's what they call in the paramedic world, you know, catastrophic.
- 19:19Speaker 3: But it seems to me in Star Trek medicine, if
- 19:26Speaker 3: you're alive right now from an injury, if you're alive,
- 19:32Speaker 3: you can be saved. No matter how bad the injury is.
- 19:35Speaker 3: At least that's how it seems to me. I mean,
- 19:39Speaker 3: I thought it was odd that there's not a 23rd
- 19:42Speaker 3: century fix for this.
- 19:45Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, they Darth Mauled him. basically.
- 19:50Speaker 8: Yes.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Chopped him in half.
- 19:53Speaker 8: Right.
- 19:55Speaker 5: So, I was hoping for a mega with spider legs
- 19:58Speaker 5: after this.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I was kind of hoping they would cut him in
- 20:06Speaker 3: half and then he would have to have artificial whatever
- 20:09Speaker 3: the rest of the season would.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Be him adjusting to life.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 20:16Speaker 2: And that's why he had to.
- 20:19Speaker 1: He could have lost his legs, and they could have
- 20:20Speaker 1: put him in a box with wheels, and that's the
- 20:23Speaker 1: prototype for the pike chair.
- 20:25Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Well, the new doctor's like, I've been working on this chair. Here,
- 20:32Speaker 1: try this out.
- 20:34Speaker 3: And then, of course, I also had the MacGuffin of... hey,
- 20:38Speaker 3: these warp particles, they can fix Mbenga's legs and they
- 20:43Speaker 3: can fix the warp core or whatever that's going on
- 20:46Speaker 3: with the ship.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Like, oh, okay, new god particles. Sweet.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Oh, man, those particles? Okay. I mean, we might as
- 20:55Speaker 5: well get to it. It was ridiculous. I mean, they
- 20:59Speaker 5: even called them magic particles at one point.
- 21:02Speaker 1: We're going to call them the Guffians.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 2: But I think.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I think you had an opportunity to do something kind
- 21:10Speaker 5: of cool with them and make them the basis for
- 21:13Speaker 5: replicator technology where you could say like, these particles are
- 21:17Speaker 5: kind of sticky and you can literally make anything with them.
- 21:20Speaker 5: And maybe in the future we can develop, you know,
- 21:23Speaker 5: fuel or food or whatever. Like you, you put that
- 21:25Speaker 5: little nugget and there we go. Like, okay. In the future,
- 21:29Speaker 5: that's going to be the replicators.
- 21:30Speaker 7: Help. Help.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It makes sense.
- 21:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I mean, it's just one line. It would have helped. Um,
- 21:39Speaker 5: but that's a headcanon thing.
- 21:40Speaker 1: That's not, I was kind of hoping that, um, I
- 21:44Speaker 1: know this sounds terrible. Yeah. I was kind of hoping
- 21:47Speaker 1: Mbenga would, uh, you know, would bite the dust. Yeah. I,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I kind of feel like it would have been heavier. Yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 5: I hate to bring this up.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 22:01Speaker 5: And I thought this is how McCoy was going to
- 22:03Speaker 5: be introduced. Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Right, and we were kind of talking about it watching
- 22:07Speaker 3: the episode, too, and I'm like, well, and Bangus shows
- 22:09Speaker 3: up in the original series.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:12Speaker 1: But they already established that this is a different timeline
- 22:17Speaker 1: because of the Temporal Cold War. See, they do these
- 22:20Speaker 1: things where they make sure they have the ability to
- 22:27Speaker 1: veer from established canon, and then they introduce a character
- 22:31Speaker 1: like this guy, who was in the cage.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You know, what are we doing? Which is it?
- 22:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 2: That's a Star Trek actor, by the way.
- 22:41Speaker 10: Yes.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Yes.
- 22:42Speaker 1: He was the, um, well, he played a couple of people.
- 22:45Speaker 1: He was the, the guy with the baseball card on
- 22:48Speaker 1: deep space nine, who was ranting about the soulless minions
- 22:51Speaker 1: of orthodoxy. Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 22:55Speaker 8: Yes.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And he also, uh, he was, he donated his face
- 23:00Speaker 2: to the D in science.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if you realize, but he played
- 23:03Speaker 1: both parts. He was the Vidian scientist, and he was
- 23:07Speaker 1: the guy who got his face stolen from the Vidian scientist, which,
- 23:10Speaker 1: you know, if you're going to transplant a face on television,
- 23:13Speaker 1: I mean, that's how you do it.
- 23:16Speaker 5: The original face-off.
- 23:18Speaker 2: The original face-off.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Well, that's what it was. In the original script, it
- 23:22Speaker 1: was supposed to be Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, but
- 23:25Speaker 1: they couldn't get both of them, so they got this
- 23:27Speaker 1: guy instead.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And it worked out well. Everyone had a good time
- 23:37Speaker 1: because he had his cellular entertainment system. That's right.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yep. He was also... Wasn't he also in the.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Spock's brother episode?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Spock's brother episode? Yeah, Spock's human brother.
- 23:57Speaker 5: When they.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he was in that episode. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 24:02Speaker 2: He ends up coming to the ship and then seeing
- 24:04Speaker 2: the advanced technology and then ends up killing himself.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I think that was him, yeah. Spoiler alert for a
- 24:09Speaker 1: show that aired 35 years ago.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Spoiler alert, yes.
- 24:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 3: The villager from that episode where Spock's brother shows up,
- 24:17Speaker 3: kills himself.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So did you guys like the episode?
- 24:23Speaker 5: We haven't even said that.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was great. Yeah.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I thought it was a good episode.
- 24:29Speaker 1: It was good. I don't know if you saw my
- 24:30Speaker 1: Facebook post, but it was like, hey, you know, this
- 24:33Speaker 1: week's genre is Star Trek. Awesome.
- 24:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It was a Star Trek episode.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 2: It was the greatest Star Trek episode, but it was
- 24:39Speaker 2: a Star Trek episode.
- 24:41Speaker 5: That's how I feel. Like, it was fine. It wasn't great.
- 24:43Speaker 5: It wasn't horrible.
- 24:43Speaker 1: It was fine. Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Wild Bill says the Vulcan cadet was far less annoying
- 24:48Speaker 3: this time.
- 24:49Speaker 8: Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I thought she was... I thought this is how she
- 24:53Speaker 3: should have been portrayed from the beginning.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. So.
- 24:59Speaker 2: A little less bitchy.
- 25:01Speaker 1: She dropped a not my job. You don't see that.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah, she did.
- 25:06Speaker 5: That's not my job.
- 25:09Speaker 2: That's Uhura's job.
- 25:10Speaker 1: You don't work in that department.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I thought it was hilarious. I wanted to bring up
- 25:18Speaker 2: when Scotty is trying to use the turbo lift and
- 25:22Speaker 2: he thinks that the computer won't react to him because
- 25:25Speaker 2: of the jack set. He's like, hold on. It's my accent.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And then he's like, main bridge. Or whatever he says.
- 25:35Speaker 5: That's pretty good.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Which, of course, it's a callback to a couple different things.
- 25:38Speaker 2: You know, nuclear vessels, number one.
- 25:41Speaker 3: And 9-5 Victor Victor 2 from Star Trek 09.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's pretty good.
- 25:52Speaker 1: What's this thing that this guy's wearing on his shirt?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Do we know what that is?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Well, um... Is it like a Federation pin? It's a
- 26:03Speaker 2: Federation pin. No, that's Earth.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's just a pin.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if anyone in the chat knows.
- 26:15Speaker 5: It doesn't look like it's, like, sewn into a shirt.
- 26:17Speaker 5: I think it is a pin.
- 26:18Speaker 2: It is a pin, yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I was wondering that, too.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I.
- 26:24Speaker 5: Don't know. I get these stills from Paramount, and, uh...
- 26:28Speaker 5: They don't give you any contacts.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Tell your contact at Paramount when he sends these to you.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Oh, I don't have any contact. It's just up on
- 26:37Speaker 5: our website. I just download them.
- 26:39Speaker 2: When Anson Mount sends these to you via his personal email,
- 26:42Speaker 2: you should probably get some contacts from him.
- 26:45Speaker 1: So when the gravity was malfunctioning, I would have loved
- 26:52Speaker 1: it if somebody was hiding under a table and the table...
- 26:58Speaker 1: Increased its mass by 40,000%. Yeah. You want.
- 27:02Speaker 2: To see carnage?
- 27:06Speaker 5: I wanted lizard people running around, man.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Lizard people?
- 27:11Speaker 5: Yeah, because they hit the warp threshold.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Threshold, yeah.
- 27:16Speaker 3: The gravity thing, when number one was crawling to wherever
- 27:21Speaker 3: she needed to crawl to... It's a gravity thing... I
- 27:28Speaker 3: wanted to see more. I wanted to see them focus
- 27:32Speaker 3: on what gravity actually would have done to her because
- 27:34Speaker 3: like her hair is still fallen perfectly. Normally, you know, if,
- 27:39Speaker 3: if the gravity was so heavy, her hair would have
- 27:42Speaker 3: been like, they should have put her, like put some
- 27:44Speaker 3: like weights on the ends of her hair or something
- 27:46Speaker 3: to straighten it out, to make it look like everything
- 27:49Speaker 3: was being affected. Not just her, her uniform should have
- 27:52Speaker 3: been sagging. Um, Everything, you know, maybe her face was
- 27:57Speaker 3: being pulled from her skull. I also wanted to see Carnage.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:01Speaker 5: That's right.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think it would have been cool if the gravity
- 28:04Speaker 1: reversed and stuck on the ceiling, not the floor.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:10Speaker 5: You want him dancing on the ceiling like Lionel Richie?
- 28:12Speaker 2: That might have been a little kind of funny-ish. I
- 28:15Speaker 2: think they, you know.
- 28:19Speaker 5: According to IMDB, this episode has a a ranking of 8.2
- 28:23Speaker 5: out of 10. So, people liked it.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 5: That was good. Who knows? You do Star Trek, people
- 28:31Speaker 5: might like that.
- 28:32Speaker 3: It'd be interesting to see if we looked at this
- 28:35Speaker 3: a year or two from now after the bad taste
- 28:37Speaker 3: has left our mouths from the previous episodes and see
- 28:40Speaker 3: how this stands up as just an episode of Star Trek.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Because all of us were just, you know, relieved that
- 28:47Speaker 3: this wasn't puppets or black and white or something stupid
- 28:54Speaker 3: yeah the hangover you know yeah exactly.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I think the relief might be short-lived because i watched
- 29:01Speaker 1: i watched the preview that you sent.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Oh yes yes yes i haven't seen the preview yet okay.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Well you could tell just by the filter that they're
- 29:10Speaker 1: using to film it um this is the soap opera
- 29:14Speaker 1: episode he's in a coma he only has four days
- 29:17Speaker 1: to live or whatever they said you know You have
- 29:20Speaker 1: to save your brother.
- 29:23Speaker 5: Very dramatic.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Somebody wakes up with amnesia and just, you know, that
- 29:27Speaker 1: that like hazy soap opera filter.
- 29:33Speaker 5: And then we got Trillane and Cybok.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Which I.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Oh, they confirm Cybok?
- 29:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And I think Trillane... He says something at the end
- 29:49Speaker 1: which kind of pseudo-breaks the fourth wall. So it might
- 29:53Speaker 1: be a situation where he's putting them in a soap opera. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 1: The way Q put them in Sherwood Forest or something
- 30:04Speaker 1: like that.
- 30:04Speaker 5: Or Mojo, if you're an X-Men fan.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Yeah. If they do that, it might not be as bad.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:14Speaker 1: We'll see. I'm not excited. Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I'm interested to see what they do with Cyborg, but
- 30:22Speaker 5: I don't think it'll be anywhere near as cool as
- 30:24Speaker 5: the movie.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:29Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to seeing Treelane again.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 5: Yeah, that actor they got for Treelane is pretty good.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Yeah. And Treelane is such a, I really like his character.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I read the book Q Squared, which features Treelane quite
- 30:48Speaker 2: heavily as a member of the continuum. And it's a
- 30:52Speaker 2: good book. Fun character.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Well, according to our Facebook post, which got pretty popular
- 31:01Speaker 5: about this episode, almost 600 comments.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 5: Majority of people loved it. Like, they loved the episode.
- 31:10Speaker 5: They thought it was great. A lot of best episode
- 31:12Speaker 5: of the season so far. Yeah. Brilliant, emotional, very tense.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Edge of your seat episode, excellent. People liked it. People
- 31:24Speaker 5: really liked it, so.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I dug it.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Somebody put Star Trek is back. I mean, wait till
- 31:32Speaker 5: next week.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:33Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:34Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 31:37Speaker 3: This season's going to have, like, I think it's going
- 31:40Speaker 3: to have more bad episodes than good episodes.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Oh, Wild Bill says, Dr. Boyce wore this exact United
- 31:52Speaker 5: Earth seal on his medical scrubs in the cage.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 31:54Speaker 2: United Earth, okay.
- 31:56Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 10: All right.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Cool.
- 31:57Speaker 10: Nice callback.
- 32:00Speaker 5: I feel like Wild Bill should get a nerd alert
- 32:03Speaker 5: for that one.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Yeah, give it to him.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Warning, warning. Nerd alert. Nerd alert. So there you go,
- 32:11Speaker 5: Wild Bill. You earned your nerd alert.
- 32:13Speaker 2: That's the rare listener feedback nerd alert.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It happens, though.
- 32:20Speaker 1: And we are perfectly willing to hand those out. So
- 32:23Speaker 1: if you've got some nerd facts, go ahead and share them.
- 32:27Speaker 5: Wild Bill, per chat GPT.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Aw, buddy. Aw, come on.
- 32:33Speaker 5: That's like stolen valor.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Take it back. Take it back.
- 32:39Speaker 5: That's right.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Our lawyers will be contacting you.
- 32:44Speaker 5: That's right. That's right. Our dog lawyer.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You will accept discommendation.
- 32:55Speaker 8: Nice.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Nice.
- 32:57Speaker 1: All right.
- 32:58Speaker 5: Well, yeah. You can't take it back. No backsies.
- 33:04Speaker 1: All right. Yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 5: We'll have to see about that. What do you think
- 33:11Speaker 5: about Spock doing the mind meld? As he's all messed up.
- 33:18Speaker 2: You know, I guess it doesn't take much concentration to
- 33:21Speaker 2: do a mind meld. I guess you don't have to.
- 33:25Speaker 3: I would imagine that him being that messed up, it
- 33:27Speaker 3: would prevent him from doing something like that. But at
- 33:30Speaker 3: least that's what I was thinking while it was happening.
- 33:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 2: But, you know, an efficient way of exchanging information, I guess.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Yeah, he was pretty messed up and I guess couldn't
- 33:41Speaker 5: explain everything.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:43Speaker 5: So I got the feeling it was one of these like,
- 33:45Speaker 5: I'm just so hurt. I don't want to talk here.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Here's the information.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Like the.
- 33:54Speaker 5: Just a nitpick. It really doesn't matter. I feel like
- 33:56Speaker 5: mind melds have become like a, like a crutch at
- 34:00Speaker 5: this point.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:01Speaker 5: It's not like a special thing that happens. I mean,
- 34:03Speaker 5: he did a mind meld with the puppet last, last episode,
- 34:05Speaker 5: you know.
- 34:07Speaker 2: You know, this entire meeting could have been a mind meld.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yep.
- 34:10Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 1: The mind meld doesn't mean is an email. Yeah.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:15Speaker 1: You know, we don't have to explain, we don't have
- 34:16Speaker 1: to explain it to the viewer. We could just have
- 34:18Speaker 1: him touch her face and then she does it. Yeah.
- 34:21Speaker 1: That's going to save like 90 seconds.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Great.
- 34:24Speaker 5: I mean, if mind melds are that powerful, why have
- 34:28Speaker 5: Starfleet Academy? Why not just have new recruits? Mind meld them.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Now you know everything about Starfleet.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Well, I don't know. If we're going to continue with
- 34:35Speaker 1: the email analogy, I could send you two or three
- 34:38Speaker 1: photos of my vacation. I can't send you my wedding video.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Right.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Through email.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 34:43Speaker 8: Right.
- 34:46Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Do you think there's going to be any backlash for.
- 34:52Speaker 2: For our nurse here for disobeying a direct order.
- 34:56Speaker 1: No, it's Star Trek. Nobody ever gets disciplined for discipline.
- 34:59Speaker 5: Yeah, they don't care. Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I think Worf is the only Starfleet officer in history
- 35:07Speaker 1: who was ever disciplined for disobeying orders. And, you know,
- 35:12Speaker 1: he probably had the best reason out of all of them. Yeah. And,
- 35:16Speaker 1: you know, he was still able to crash the Enterprise
- 35:19Speaker 1: 25 years later. Right, right. So even him, you'll never
- 35:24Speaker 1: have a command until you have a command.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Right, right. He got it a couple times.
- 35:30Speaker 3: First, when he killed Duras, Picard put a reprimand in
- 35:34Speaker 3: his record. And then when he saved his wife's life.
- 35:41Speaker 5: I like that that's in his record, too. Like, might
- 35:43Speaker 5: murder a diplomat.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Killed head of state.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Yeah he's really good at shooting to the throne of
- 35:53Speaker 5: the Klingon.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yeah right loss of recess for a month right you
- 36:03Speaker 1: know one thing okay another nitpick that I'll point out
- 36:06Speaker 1: so in the last episode right Pike got his new
- 36:09Speaker 1: chair and one of the things they point out in
- 36:12Speaker 1: the chair is like oh I can command everything from
- 36:14Speaker 1: here right I can hit my buttons and command everything
- 36:18Speaker 1: And then at the end of the episode, he says,
- 36:20Speaker 1: put my old chair back.
- 36:21Speaker 5: It's, you know, with the puppets, couldn't handle it. Want
- 36:25Speaker 5: my old chair back. This episode, he literally has little
- 36:28Speaker 5: command buttons in his chair again. And he's checking things out. Yeah.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Well, and the whole new chair. Wasn't that part of
- 36:36Speaker 2: Spock's fever dream?
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:39Speaker 2: So, yeah, it didn't exist in the first place. Right.
- 36:43Speaker 5: And now it's back. Well, I don't know.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Does it have seatbelts?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Well, no, I would say that he's, so when he said,
- 36:53Speaker 1: put my old chair back, that was part of the
- 36:57Speaker 1: dream or that was afterwards.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I don't, well, it was part of the, yeah, the
- 37:03Speaker 2: chair was part of the fever dream.
- 37:05Speaker 1: So, well, but that may have been, he may have
- 37:10Speaker 1: been dreaming about it because he knew the.
- 37:13Speaker 5: Captain was dreaming about your chair.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know. I don't know, man. Um, I'd
- 37:18Speaker 1: love to help you out, but I'm not going back
- 37:20Speaker 1: to watch it again.
- 37:21Speaker 5: Yeah, that's okay.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Just not doing it. Someone could chat GPT that, and
- 37:26Speaker 1: we'll give them a nerd alert.
- 37:27Speaker 5: There you go. There you go. There you go, Wild Bill.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:32Speaker 5: So.
- 37:33Speaker 4: All right.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Well, should we get to listener feedback?
- 37:37Speaker 1: Sure.
- 37:37Speaker 5: All right.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Listener feedback.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I also had something I wanted to point out, and
- 37:50Speaker 3: I was looking at some of the IMDb stuff, and
- 37:53Speaker 3: I was doing a deep dive on some of the
- 37:55Speaker 3: actors and actresses and stuff.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Melissa Navia.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Now, I know it's not always polite to point out
- 38:02Speaker 3: a woman's age, but whatever she does for breakfast or
- 38:06Speaker 3: whatever exercise regimen she's on or whatever her routine is,
- 38:13Speaker 3: I want to start doing. Okay, she's the one that
- 38:17Speaker 3: she plays.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Ortegas. Ortegas. Okay. Young Ortegas. That actress is 42 years old. Yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 1: And I'm like.
- 38:30Speaker 5: Are you serious? I thought she was like early 30s.
- 38:32Speaker 2: If you told me she was 29, I would have
- 38:34Speaker 2: been like, oh, okay. Yeah.
- 38:35Speaker 5: I would have believed that.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Because the whole package looks 29. Just the way she
- 38:43Speaker 2: carries herself, she's.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Wow.
- 38:46Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 38:47Speaker 2: So whatever. Maybe it's Maybelline. I don't know what it is.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Some Noxzema. Yeah. Hook me up with that fountain of youth.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:58Speaker 5: Well, good for her.
- 39:00Speaker 2: So someday when I turn 42, I hope to look
- 39:03Speaker 2: that good.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Jacob and Jasmine have already X'd up in the chat
- 39:10Speaker 5: before I even called for it.
- 39:13Speaker 2: They're ready and willing.
- 39:15Speaker 5: They're ready to.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Go, baby.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Yeah, so for those of you who want to join us,
- 39:18Speaker 5: just put an X in the chat and we will
- 39:20Speaker 5: send you the link so you can join us on
- 39:22Speaker 5: the show. Just make sure you have a webcam so
- 39:24Speaker 5: we can see.
- 39:26Speaker 8: It.
- 39:27Speaker 5: Also, you can reach out to us on social media
- 39:29Speaker 5: we're on all the social medias as TrekCastTNG but we
- 39:34Speaker 5: do have some voicemails so yeah let's get to the
- 39:39Speaker 5: voicemails here we go here's the first.
- 39:40Speaker 6: One Trek fans it's Tim here from the south of
- 39:44Speaker 6: England and guess what this episode of Star Trek was
- 39:49Speaker 6: actually not bad. I rather enjoyed it. I would say,
- 39:52Speaker 6: along with the first episode of this season, it.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Was probably the best one.
- 39:59Speaker 6: A couple of things that stood.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Out for me.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Really is I love him banger. I think I've said
- 40:04Speaker 6: before he's my probably my favorite character I thought they
- 40:06Speaker 6: were gonna kill him off this time, especially when you
- 40:08Speaker 6: saw dr. Boyce who looks really good Actually, he does
- 40:12Speaker 6: remind me of the original voice from the original series
- 40:16Speaker 6: So I'm interested to seeing how he develops. I thought
- 40:19Speaker 6: they were gonna kill him off and I'm glad they
- 40:22Speaker 6: didn't I do like his and Chappell's relationship. That's quite
- 40:26Speaker 6: pointing quite nice. Nice to see that We're gonna see
- 40:28Speaker 6: much more of it though.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Are we that that's a problem?
- 40:32Speaker 6: Also, I thought the graphics were great on this. Some
- 40:36Speaker 6: of the shots were brilliant. I think the best thing
- 40:40Speaker 6: for me, though, was Chapel and Benga's relationship. That was
- 40:45Speaker 6: the highlight when she was trying to save him. I
- 40:51Speaker 6: also liked, not so much Scotty, because I'm not sold
- 40:55Speaker 6: on him as an actor, as a Scotty, but I
- 40:58Speaker 6: did like... see now he's starting to fall in love.
- 41:02Speaker 11: With the Enterprise yeah you know where he's touching her
- 41:05Speaker 11: he says she's gonna make it she's gonna be good
- 41:07Speaker 11: that was nice to see so yeah a great episode
- 41:12Speaker 11: I would say um.
- 41:14Speaker 6: Not a great you know what I mean compared to
- 41:17Speaker 6: the rest of the season um Dan I would just
- 41:20Speaker 6: like to say that as much as you like Nurse
- 41:22Speaker 6: Chapel running around in her white hot suit the arm
- 41:26Speaker 6: is hotter so I'm sorry my friend But at least
- 41:29Speaker 6: we won't have to wrestle to see who gets who.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Guys, I love you.
- 41:33Speaker 6: Trying to keep this down to under two minutes. So
- 41:35Speaker 6: on that bombshell, I'm going to say it's two minutes now.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Love you lots.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Be good.
- 41:40Speaker 1: That's great.
- 41:46Speaker 5: I picture you two like Tripp and Reed with your
- 41:50Speaker 5: Hawaiian shirts just going on the Enterprise.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Hello, ladies.
- 41:59Speaker 5: All right. We got one more voicemail, so.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 42:03Speaker 4: The Star Trek episode actually felt like Trek. Then we
- 42:08Speaker 4: see for next week is the Turalyon episode, and it
- 42:12Speaker 4: looks like it's going to be a lot of changing
- 42:14Speaker 4: channels of different genres. Wouldn't it be kind of funny
- 42:18Speaker 4: at the end of the episode, you'd be like, yeah,
- 42:20Speaker 4: the last four episodes, or the last five episodes at
- 42:24Speaker 4: the beginning of the season were all like Turalyon, like
- 42:28Speaker 4: movie episodes. Well, anyways, it was good.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Good episode.
- 42:34Speaker 4: Best part was Scotty talking to the elevator saying engineering. Anyways,
- 42:44Speaker 4: back half looks good from what I've seen and heard.
- 42:52Speaker 2: There we go.
- 42:53Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Engineering. That's my accent. Engineering.
- 43:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I would love to see. I would love to see
- 43:04Speaker 1: Trelane watching an episode of TOS.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 1: And commenting about how he likes the original Kirk better.
- 43:13Speaker 5: Yeah, that'd be great. Real quick, if you ever want
- 43:19Speaker 5: to join us and leave us a voicemail, give us
- 43:21Speaker 5: a call at 570-661-0001. That's 570-661-0001. You can just leave
- 43:31Speaker 5: a voicemail, and we will animate you into a little creature.
- 43:35Speaker 5: So there you go.
- 43:36Speaker 2: That's right.
- 43:37Speaker 3: And you can email the show at trekcasttng at gmail.com.
- 43:42Speaker 3: You can email me at strongbeard1701 at gmail.com, and we
- 43:47Speaker 3: will read your emails live on the air.
- 43:50Speaker 5: That's right. That's right. Speaking of live on the air,
- 43:52Speaker 5: we've got a couple people waiting. I've been watching them
- 43:56Speaker 5: on the previews. Jacob's vaping away like crazy. So let's
- 44:01Speaker 5: get him going. There's Jacob. Called him out with the vape.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 44:06Speaker 10: How y'all guys doing?
- 44:08Speaker 1: What's up? Good.
- 44:09Speaker 5: How are you?
- 44:09Speaker 2: Good. How are you?
- 44:10Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 44:11Speaker 10: We actually got a Trek episode.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:13Speaker 1: It's nice, right?
- 44:15Speaker 5: Who would have not imagined that?
- 44:18Speaker 10: I actually had my phone down this time.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 44:21Speaker 5: So you liked it?
- 44:23Speaker 10: Yeah, it was really good. I actually zoned in on
- 44:25Speaker 10: the TV and I was like, holy crap, I'm actually
- 44:27Speaker 10: watching something.
- 44:29Speaker 2: What was your favorite part? Yeah, I had the same feeling.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I had the same feeling.
- 44:32Speaker 10: My favorite part was watching the doctor get split like that.
- 44:35Speaker 10: I'm like, yeah, he's gone.
- 44:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:38Speaker 10: And then I was thinking McCoy's probably going to be
- 44:40Speaker 10: showing up soon and then Bruce Chappell's going to save him.
- 44:44Speaker 10: I'm like, okay, maybe McCoy's going to be on the
- 44:45Speaker 10: next season.
- 44:48Speaker 2: I honestly didn't know if Manga was going to survive
- 44:51Speaker 2: or not.
- 44:51Speaker 10: Yeah. I, my dad watched this, watches these episodes and
- 44:57Speaker 10: he actually enjoyed it. It was actually pretty good.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:59Speaker 7: Good.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Wonderful.
- 45:02Speaker 5: I mean, one little nitpick I had for this episode too,
- 45:06Speaker 5: like just another one was, um, the little robots, little
- 45:10Speaker 5: dot robots weren't all around the enterprise trying to fix it.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:14Speaker 5: Because, because they introduced those things.
- 45:16Speaker 1: So yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Where are they?
- 45:20Speaker 1: That's, that's, we've talked about this before that.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:23Speaker 1: For 50 years, there were the rules of Star Trek.
- 45:27Speaker 1: This is how things get done. This is how things break.
- 45:29Speaker 1: This is how things get fixed. And you start changing that,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and yeah, you wrote yourself into a corner. You said
- 45:38Speaker 1: that they have these things. Well, now you're expected to
- 45:41Speaker 1: use them.
- 45:43Speaker 10: They remind me there's little robots in Star Wars and
- 45:45Speaker 10: the Empire Strikes Back when there's little robots.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. They very clearly went We want an R2-D2.
- 45:51Speaker 5: We're going to make our own.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Yeah. We have R2-D2 at home.
- 45:56Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly. We've all got robots.
- 46:00Speaker 10: Creates new wars.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Well, obviously, you guys didn't see the episode where they
- 46:03Speaker 3: specifically say that those robots don't work during slipstream energy.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 46:10Speaker 2: That's why they weren't.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Sure.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Anytime there's slipstream radiations.
- 46:16Speaker 5: They don't work when the budget doesn't allow for their CGI.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Exactly, yes.
- 46:20Speaker 10: It's budgetary radiation.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Plot armor failing. Plot armor is down to 10%.
- 46:28Speaker 5: Oh, God. If they use that in the new Spaceballs movies,
- 46:34Speaker 5: I'll laugh.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Oh, that'd be hilarious.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I like a Spaceballs thing.
- 46:40Speaker 10: A Spaceballs episode.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Yes, yeah.
- 46:45Speaker 10: Or Legolas, though.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Jacob, did you see the preview for next week?
- 46:52Speaker 1: No, I haven't.
- 46:52Speaker 7: I've seen the pictures.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I haven't seen the previews of them yet.
- 46:55Speaker 5: There's a little trailer I posted up in the Facebook group,
- 46:58Speaker 5: and you see Tulane. Like Dan said, it does look
- 47:05Speaker 5: soap opera-y.
- 47:07Speaker 2: It might be fun.
- 47:07Speaker 10: Twilight next.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Twilight.
- 47:13Speaker 2: I'm almost glad.
- 47:14Speaker 3: I won't be here next weekend on the show because
- 47:18Speaker 3: I'll be out of town.
- 47:20Speaker 5: Oh, that's right. Get ready for the weekend. Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 47:26Speaker 10: I got to get ready to get to the game.
- 47:28Speaker 5: Yeah. Thanks for coming out, Jacob.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Thanks for coming out.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 47:32Speaker 5: You too.
- 47:33Speaker 1: See ya.
- 47:35Speaker 5: All right. And then we also got from the Celestial Temple.
- 47:37Speaker 5: What the hell was that?
- 47:39Speaker 1: What? All right. So I have my camera's not No,
- 47:43Speaker 1: my camera's not mirrored. Okay. Which means, you know, if
- 47:48Speaker 1: you look at yourself on screen, you're used to looking
- 47:50Speaker 1: at a mirror. So you put your hand up, and
- 47:52Speaker 1: it's like, oh, all right, I gotta, you know, I
- 47:55Speaker 1: gotta move my hand over here. Nope, I'm going the
- 47:57Speaker 1: wrong way.
- 47:57Speaker 5: So that's what it was.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I was trying to do the salute, and instead I
- 48:02Speaker 1: ended up doing this.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Well, see, I always get confused, because, like, okay, you
- 48:06Speaker 3: can see the Star Trek thing in the background, right?
- 48:09Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Does it look normal, or does it look mirrored?
- 48:14Speaker 5: It looks crooked.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Well, it's crooked. See, when I'm looking at it, from
- 48:19Speaker 2: my point of view, it's mirrored. It's backwards.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Well, let me do this then. Hold on a minute.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Let's see. Mirror my camera.
- 48:35Speaker 6: All right.
- 48:35Speaker 1: What do you guys say? Can you read my shirt?
- 48:37Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Nothing changed.
- 48:39Speaker 5: Nothing changed for us.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I think it's for you.
- 48:42Speaker 1: It's just for me, so now I can do....
- 48:46Speaker 2: Oh, that would make sense.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I can also do this.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Watch.
- 48:48Speaker 5: There you go. Yes, we have the technology.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Which, you know, I ruined it. I started from here.
- 48:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 1: I should have done, hey, look.
- 49:00Speaker 2: At my thing.
- 49:01Speaker 5: You can read the TrekCast sign behind me, right? Like,
- 49:03Speaker 5: you guys, like, that looks... Yes.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks horrible. I just switched my view now, too. So, yeah,
- 49:10Speaker 3: now I see the Alright, now I can see what
- 49:12Speaker 3: you see.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Welcome to the cast cast.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Everybody that's listening to the podcast are like, what the
- 49:19Speaker 3: hell is this?
- 49:21Speaker 1: What are they talking about?
- 49:21Speaker 2: Mirrors?
- 49:23Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right.
- 49:24Speaker 1: This is the mirror episode of CheckCast.
- 49:27Speaker 5: Literally mirrors.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Alright.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Let's bring out Chazbiz.
- 49:34Speaker 5: Yes, let's bring him on.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Save us, Chazbiz. Hey, buddy. How you doing? Good.
- 49:41Speaker 5: How's your mirror? Yeah, exactly.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:46Speaker 5: I think you're doing it.
- 49:47Speaker 2: No, no gang signs, please.
- 49:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 49:49Speaker 7: No gang signs. That's celestial.
- 49:51Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 49:54Speaker 5: The celestial crips and bloods.
- 49:55Speaker 7: Yes.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Right. We don't need those signs up in here. Power race.
- 50:01Speaker 7: God, I'm such a gold caught down in hell.
- 50:03Speaker 5: The West Coast power rates. Oh, God.
- 50:08Speaker 7: What do you think of the episode?
- 50:11Speaker 2: It was Trekkie.
- 50:13Speaker 7: That was the first Trekkie. What was the first?
- 50:17Speaker 1: It was Trekkish.
- 50:19Speaker 7: Trekkish. Trekkie is like a curse word. It's like a
- 50:24Speaker 7: naughty word.
- 50:25Speaker 5: So you didn't think.
- 50:26Speaker 10: Worst episode ever.
- 50:29Speaker 7: No, it wasn't the worst episode ever. It was actually
- 50:36Speaker 7: pretty good.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Now.
- 50:38Speaker 7: I wish, you know, the doctor told her, hey, there's
- 50:41Speaker 7: a lot of other patients on here. You need to
- 50:44Speaker 7: come with me. And she defied orders. And I'm sitting there,
- 50:48Speaker 7: and it's like, yes, because in a situation like that,
- 50:50Speaker 7: you know, the triage, you have to save, you know,
- 50:55Speaker 7: the other patients, right?
- 50:56Speaker 5: The ones you can save, yeah.
- 50:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:59Speaker 7: Especially because he'd be, like, code black.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Because, basically, he's.
- 51:03Speaker 7: Going to die.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Right. You know, that's what they'd cover him.
- 51:07Speaker 7: Because in a major situation like that, they would have
- 51:09Speaker 7: to analyze everything and, you know, set up the triage
- 51:13Speaker 7: and basically, I think it's called SALT. S-A-L-T.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 51:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:22Speaker 5: I mean, the other thing you can argue is, like,
- 51:23Speaker 5: we're all the other medical staff. Like, there's just the
- 51:27Speaker 5: two of them.
- 51:29Speaker 2: They don't arrive until Tuesday.
- 51:31Speaker 1: I would have liked to... I could I would have
- 51:36Speaker 1: felt better if there was a reason.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Not an emotional reason that she's like a professional reason.
- 51:43Speaker 1: Like she's, you know, she's a nurse, but she's also
- 51:48Speaker 1: the ship's counselor. Yeah. And I also have to treat his,
- 51:54Speaker 1: his mental wellbeing and it would be cruel to leave
- 51:56Speaker 1: him to die alone in this state, you know, something,
- 52:01Speaker 1: something like that. But just now, No, he's my friend,
- 52:06Speaker 1: so disobey orders.
- 52:08Speaker 2: I'm sure they'll address it at her court-martial.
- 52:10Speaker 5: Okay, hear me out here. Because in the previews, you know,
- 52:17Speaker 5: previously on Star Trek, they showed clips of him with
- 52:19Speaker 5: his daughter and all the experimental surgery or procedures that
- 52:23Speaker 5: he tried. Like, that was the reminder of us for
- 52:25Speaker 5: all the stuff. What if his daughter reappeared as he's, like,
- 52:29Speaker 5: dying in this injury? And she's like, oh, you can
- 52:31Speaker 5: be with me. And, you know, like, yeah.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 52:36Speaker 5: So you had Nurse Chapel like, oh, you're going to live,
- 52:37Speaker 5: you're going to live. And he's also seen his daughter saying,
- 52:40Speaker 5: it's all right, dad, come be with me. You'll be okay.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Like he's picturing that.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Yeah. And they really didn't show that they didn't show
- 52:48Speaker 2: anything from his perspective.
- 52:50Speaker 8: Right.
- 52:51Speaker 2: They didn't tell that story at all from Mbenga's perspective.
- 52:55Speaker 5: Right. That would, I think, like pulled at the heartstrings
- 52:58Speaker 5: a little bit more. And, you know, I get you
- 53:01Speaker 5: don't want to go supernatural with it and you don't
- 53:03Speaker 5: want to, you know, Especially when you're doing a real-time thing.
- 53:06Speaker 7: I think it would have been better if they were
- 53:10Speaker 7: on a shuttlecraft or something stuck. You know, like not
- 53:14Speaker 7: with the ship. And then she had to take care
- 53:16Speaker 7: of it that way and figure it out.
- 53:18Speaker 5: Yeah, but then you didn't get the magic particles.
- 53:21Speaker 7: Well, maybe she could have come up with that out
- 53:24Speaker 7: of her butt. Because the MacGuffin of the episode is
- 53:27Speaker 7: the magic particles that saved him.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Yeah, now that I think about it, there should have
- 53:31Speaker 3: been a scene where the camera is... like everything else
- 53:35Speaker 3: around him is sort of muted and he just has,
- 53:39Speaker 3: it's just his face. And he's just, the scene is
- 53:43Speaker 3: telling the story just by his facial expression. And the
- 53:45Speaker 3: story is, Oh, I am going to die. I need
- 53:49Speaker 3: to come to terms with it. I should really tell
- 53:51Speaker 3: Christine you need to leave. And, and just him sort
- 53:55Speaker 3: of understanding that it's time for him to give up.
- 53:58Speaker 3: That would have been more emotionally impactful than like, yeah,
- 54:03Speaker 3: for some reason I, I keep going back to they
- 54:05Speaker 3: didn't tell the story from his perspective. And I'm not
- 54:07Speaker 3: saying a POV shot of what he can see, but
- 54:09Speaker 3: like more focus on him just for a few seconds.
- 54:14Speaker 1: Yeah. For once, I would like to see someone disobey orders.
- 54:22Speaker 1: And it doesn't work out for them. Like, imagine she
- 54:27Speaker 1: disobeys orders to stay there and save Mbenga. And then
- 54:33Speaker 1: he dies. Yeah. And then he dies and someone else
- 54:39Speaker 1: dies with the other doctors.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Because she wasn't there to assist. Like he's performing surgery
- 54:46Speaker 1: by himself. He does not have someone trained to assist
- 54:50Speaker 1: him in surgery. And because of that, someone else dies.
- 54:52Speaker 1: So now you disobeyed orders to save this guy. He's dead,
- 54:56Speaker 1: but this guy's also dead too. Make it have some weight.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:02Speaker 5: That would have been interesting.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:05Speaker 5: Because then you could bring that up in the future.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:09Speaker 7: You know, if the other doctor was in such, you know,
- 55:12Speaker 7: a major mess, like, was he in the bar or the...
- 55:16Speaker 7: Where was he on the ship?
- 55:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 55:19Speaker 5: Their fourth different bar.
- 55:20Speaker 1: They were in the bar. Ten forward.
- 55:22Speaker 2: That well-stocked bar that they have in the middle of
- 55:25Speaker 2: the ship.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Well, ten forward. Yes.
- 55:26Speaker 2: So... Yeah.
- 55:28Speaker 7: Well, the first time you say what it is, he
- 55:30Speaker 7: has his own bar in his room, doesn't he? Like
- 55:32Speaker 7: on the first episode of the original.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Series, everybody on that ship are raging alcoholics.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:39Speaker 7: But he has his own mini bar in his room.
- 55:42Speaker 7: Cause I remember when Pike sees him on the cage
- 55:45Speaker 7: or whatever, he goes in there and he's making him
- 55:48Speaker 7: a drink. So he's already known that he's a alcoholic.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:55Speaker 5: You know, we needed a scene in Enterprise, the Enterprise show,
- 55:58Speaker 5: where Archer was like, you know, all this ship needs
- 56:01Speaker 5: is a bar. All this ship needs is a bar.
- 56:05Speaker 7: I need a stiff drink.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Huh.
- 56:10Speaker 5: Yeah, because they don't have a mess hall, do they?
- 56:12Speaker 5: It's just a bar.
- 56:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 56:16Speaker 7: You know, every time I watch the show, well, because
- 56:17Speaker 7: when you see the mess hall in the original series,
- 56:20Speaker 7: it looks like a really bad cafeteria.
- 56:22Speaker 5: Yeah. With, like, Which is what it would be in
- 56:26Speaker 5: real life.
- 56:26Speaker 7: Yes, it would be shitty. It would be shit on
- 56:30Speaker 7: the shingle.
- 56:32Speaker 5: Functional, not nice. Did you see the preview for upcoming
- 56:40Speaker 5: next week?
- 56:41Speaker 7: I did not. I usually don't watch the previews. I
- 56:43Speaker 7: want to go in there blind and not have any
- 56:46Speaker 7: spoilers or anything. Just go in there.
- 56:49Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 56:50Speaker 7: With open mind you know like oh it's a puppet
- 56:53Speaker 7: you know I knew it was a puppet episode because
- 56:54Speaker 7: everybody was talking about it but any of the other
- 56:56Speaker 7: episodes I have no idea what it's going to be about.
- 56:58Speaker 5: So yeah okay okay fair enough it's like.
- 57:04Speaker 7: It's kind of like previews to movies I don't like
- 57:06Speaker 7: to watch the previews because they spoil too.
- 57:09Speaker 5: Much yeah you excited for lanterns tonight.
- 57:13Speaker 7: Yeah I thought last week's episode that's the best show
- 57:15Speaker 7: alright well yes it is the best show I thought
- 57:18Speaker 7: last week's episode was a little slow It was kind
- 57:21Speaker 7: of a filler episode. They're trying to build up what's
- 57:24Speaker 7: going on in the town. Who's the Martian Manhunters?
- 57:28Speaker 1: Nope. They're not Martian Manhunters. They're just Manhunters. Two totally
- 57:32Speaker 1: different characters.
- 57:34Speaker 5: It's the wife, right? The wife is the Manhunter? Is
- 57:36Speaker 5: that what we're thinking?
- 57:38Speaker 2: I think so.
- 57:38Speaker 7: I think she's the old lady.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I think that's too easy.
- 57:44Speaker 5: I've seen a theory that Jon Stewart is the Manhunter.
- 57:48Speaker 5: And that's why Jon doesn't Or that's why Hal doesn't
- 57:51Speaker 5: trust him.
- 57:55Speaker 2: I need to start. I need to get on my Wikipedia.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:00Speaker 3: Because I just started getting into Green Lantern stuff like
- 58:04Speaker 3: a year or so ago.
- 58:06Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I think it's the sheriff's husband. Okay.
- 58:12Speaker 8: Yes.
- 58:12Speaker 7: Yes.
- 58:14Speaker 5: Oh, the lawyer guy?
- 58:15Speaker 1: Yep.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Yeah, of course it's him because he's a lawyer and
- 58:19Speaker 2: lawyers are evil.
- 58:21Speaker 1: But he was the first person to take steps to
- 58:26Speaker 1: move Hal along. Yeah. Get him out of town. Uh-huh.
- 58:31Speaker 5: He's very amenable. Just like, yeah, this is all you need.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Get out.
- 58:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:36Speaker 5: That's a good call. That's a really good call.
- 58:38Speaker 3: Did somebody say, did you say one of the theories
- 58:40Speaker 3: was the wife? Like the wife of the main big,
- 58:44Speaker 3: the guy that Jon Stewart slept with?
- 58:45Speaker 2: Yes.
- 58:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:46Speaker 7: A lot of people think.
- 58:48Speaker 5: Yeah. She was doing some manhunting of her own.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Yes, she was.
- 58:55Speaker 7: Yes, yes. She was a lounge lizard. That's what she is,
- 59:00Speaker 7: a lounge lizard.
- 59:01Speaker 2: That's why you are a writer, Daniel.
- 59:05Speaker 7: She's sitting in there scoping out the territory, sees her man,
- 59:09Speaker 7: and she.
- 59:10Speaker 5: mean, if this was a different genre, she would definitely
- 59:12Speaker 5: be the man in her. You know what I'm saying?
- 59:15Speaker 7: She's a man eater. That's right.
- 59:17Speaker 1: That's right.
- 59:18Speaker 6: Oh, boy.
- 59:20Speaker 5: All right. There's some howlin' oats in here.
- 59:23Speaker 7: That's what she is.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Howlin' oats?
- 59:29Speaker 5: Oh, boy.
- 59:30Speaker 6: Wow.
- 59:32Speaker 5: Okay. Well, on that note with the man eaters, you
- 59:37Speaker 5: probably wrap it up.
- 59:39Speaker 3: I'm also looking forward to on my recommendation list. I'm
- 59:41Speaker 3: watching the season four of a reacher.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Really good. Yeah. And, uh, a new season of, uh,
- 59:51Speaker 2: Ted Lasso.
- 59:52Speaker 5: Okay.
- 59:53Speaker 7: Oh, I forgot that spot.
- 59:54Speaker 2: So that's really good.
- 59:56Speaker 3: If anybody hasn't seen Ted Lasso, it's, it's, Nowhere near
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: any kind of sci-fi genre.
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: But it's on Apple TV, and it's one of the
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: best shows I've ever seen. Yep.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: I have been watching Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: That is funny. Is it any good?
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: It's on my list.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: No, it's not good at all.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: I didn't think it would be.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: I heard that's the reason to watch it.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I like it.
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: The thing I like about it, though, is if you
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: go in with the perspective of, Somebody went into an
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: executive's office and said, here's my idea for a show.
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: And it's so batshit crazy. And it makes no sense.
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: And they went, yes, here's millions of dollars. Go make it.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: It's watching a train wreck is what it is.
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: And it got renewed for a second season, too.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: The pitch was likely this. Hey, the Big Bang Theory
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: is the most successful sitcom of the last decade.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: And continues to be.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: These are the numbers that it had during its run.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: If we can pull one-tenth of that, it will be profitable.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: And I only need this amount of money to do it. Yeah.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: That was the whole pitch.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: 100%.
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: It's the ruins to Big Bang Theory.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: The majority is shot on the studio. They're not shooting
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: anywhere on locations. So it's cheap.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Yep.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: And they're using the side actors, not the big actors
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: who made a ton of money.
- 1:01:28Speaker 7: Nobody has a big contract.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 1:01:31Speaker 7: Everybody's super cheap. Then you occasionally sprinkle in some of
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: the main characters. But you don't get, like, the Sheldons
- 1:01:39Speaker 7: or the other guys.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: When are you going to end with Sheldon and Leonard
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: showing up at the end? That'll be your final episode.
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I hope they get a final episode. But the
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: last episode, I think it was only 18 minutes.
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: Because they did a preview of last week, which is
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: like four minutes.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: And then they did the intro, and then the whole
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: episode together was probably 18 minutes long.
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: I love, too, when it'll pop up in the beginning,
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: and it's like, skip intro. And there's a little button
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: above that that says, please don't skip the intro.
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: Fun.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: I'll have to check it out.
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: Yeah. It's not good, but just watching it from the bizarre, like,
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: how did this happen?
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: Somebody watch Sliders. Have you ever watched the show Sliders?
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it's Dumb Sliders.
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: Yes, it's Dumb Sliders. No rhyme or reason.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Well, you've sold me, guys. Yeah.
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: If you want to watch Dumb Sliders, watch this show.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Done and done.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Well, thanks for watching, everybody. I won't be here next week,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: so I'll be here in a couple weeks.
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: Next week's the 60th anniversary of Star Trek, and they're
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: bringing the movies back in the theaters. There's Star Trek
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: Popcorn Buckets at all the major locations. So if you
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: want a Star Trek Popcorn Bucket, buy it now.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: They got that big one at the Enterprise. It looks cool.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: It looks amazing.
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: It has like 60, you know, it has everything.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: They're only doing like the first four. They're not doing
- 1:03:10Speaker 7: the last two.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: You don't get.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: I think my Star Trek toy budget is pretty much
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: shot at after my wife took out a second mortgage
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: to buy me the Enterprise D Lego set.
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: I got the bridge and that's, yeah.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Well, definitely post some updates on, on the Facebook group.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: Nice.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Love it.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: Is that your Lego set?
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: No, that is a transformer that I purchased.
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: Where's Optimus Prime, Dan?
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Optimus Prime is in storage.
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: That's, uh, There's a shrine this week with candles around it.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: This is Onslaught. He is one of the combat accounts. Okay.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: But these things are so.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: Did the laundry just get done?
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Yes, the laundry did get done in that room right
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: over there.
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: You need to start folding, Dan, before they get wrinkled.
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: That's right. That's right.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: Well, Chazbiz, definitely post some pictures of that bridge set
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: as you build it. I'm going to do the same
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: with my Enterprise D set. And my wife also got
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: me the lighting kit. which is not officially part.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Of the set.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: You have to build it and.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Integrate it while you're building the whole set. The Enterprise
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: D comes with two booklets of instructions. Plus, you have
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: to follow the additional separate instructions of the lighting kit.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: It's going to be a project.
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: I'm thinking maybe by Christmas. Because if you do it
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: while you're building it, it's easier because if you buy
- 1:04:35Speaker 7: the lighting kit afterwards, you have to take the whole
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: thing apart and you have to figure out how to
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: get the wires in there. So it's a lot harder.
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: It's easier to do while you're building.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: This is definitely going to be a display piece.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: It's going on the coffee table. You know, nobody touch it.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: I'll be super gluing each piece together.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: You're going to craggle it?
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Are you really going to super glue it?
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: Is that a thing?
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: I don't know anything about Legos.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: You never saw the Lego movie?
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I probably did, but I don't remember... Oh God. Yeah.
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: I'll go back and watch the Lego.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: Go back.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: That's right. That's right. You have work to do now.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: And you got to. All right. So here's your assignment.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Watch the Lego movie. And then when you come back,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: I want to know the Star Trek reference.
- 1:05:28Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: There is a Star Trek reference.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
