- 0:00Go back and look at how Red Sox fans felt about Nomar Garcia
- 0:02Para walking out the door in 2004, and then look at how 2004
- 0:06ended. Sometimes you just have to make
- 0:08moves that make other things, other facets of your lineup, of
- 0:13your roster work better, even though maybe sending a single
- 0:17guy out on paper doesn't seem like the right move.
- 0:20Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three OT where we talk all
- 0:25things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nader
- 0:30Reyes. It all starts.
- 0:33Right now. Welcome back to the Three Take
- 0:36presented by Chinook Cedry. This is episode 584.
- 0:40I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:42Reyes. What are you doing, Casey?
- 1:05How are we? OK, I'm good.
- 1:07I'm good. I was about to flip it to Josh.
- 1:09I was I. Mean you always hit with the the
- 1:12Nate. I was waiting.
- 1:14For Nate, you didn't hit it. So honestly, did I not?
- 1:17You didn't. Oh, that's all me.
- 1:20Oh my gosh, 45 seconds and like that's all for you to drop that
- 1:27thing. I'll be your host, Kyle Cord.
- 1:29I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 1:33Nate. Casey, how are we?
- 1:38Sip some tea, man. Let's get some reset.
- 1:41We got some. What do we got in there?
- 1:43That's all me we're fighting. Got some chamomile?
- 1:47Little little immune boost trying to make it the holidays,
- 1:53man. Yeah, that's well, aren't we
- 1:55all? Aren't we all?
- 1:56You wanted to talk holiday. You wanted to talk Thanksgiving
- 1:59here real quick. You something about egg noodles
- 2:03and and Turkey. Yeah, I mean, look, let's just
- 2:06let's just address the the giant gorilla in the room here.
- 2:11Josh, what are we talking? About Josh in the corner.
- 2:15He he addressed this before we got on, saying that he just
- 2:21became aware that not all, not all households make noodles for
- 2:28Thanksgiving. Thought it was a thought it was
- 2:31a Thanksgiving staple. It's honestly kind of wild to
- 2:34assume that everybody has noodles for Thanksgiving to
- 2:37begin with, much less homemade noodles.
- 2:39So everybody where I grew up with did.
- 2:44Right, hence the wild to think that everyone else has noodles.
- 2:50Majority of your. So also recently found.
- 2:53Ideas with your circles, so I'm not surprised by this.
- 2:58I did clear up, it was like 10 years ago when I found that out,
- 3:00but. That's still.
- 3:04That's a still a long a large portion of my life that I just
- 3:07assumed that everybody ate the same thing on Thanksgiving.
- 3:11Not true. What's not served?
- 3:13So like if, because, if egg noodles are getting made, we got
- 3:17to, let's face it, something's going to the by the wayside
- 3:20here. So what?
- 3:21Well, I don't know what you have, so take us through your.
- 3:23Take us through your. Well, I mean.
- 3:24If we're going to, we're going to go through like a standard,
- 3:27you know, run-of-the-mill everyday American Thanksgiving
- 3:32meal. We, you know, you got your
- 3:34Turkey, you got your mashed potatoes, you got your stuffing,
- 3:37by the way, it's stuffing. I don't.
- 3:39Yeah, my in laws call it dressing crazy.
- 3:44That doesn't make any sense. That goes on salad.
- 3:46Yeah, yeah, dressing is for salad.
- 3:50What else we got? We we got mashed potatoes
- 3:52already. Sometimes there's the the gravy,
- 3:54which is a must for me. Sometimes there's the cranberry
- 3:58sauce. Some people.
- 3:59Oh, Cranberry, Hold on. What?
- 4:01Back up sometimes. Yeah, all.
- 4:03We're going to run through all of these carbs and not have
- 4:07gravy. I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 4:10Some people aren't gravy people, even when.
- 4:12It's there. It's on the menu though.
- 4:14I mean, are you? Is cranberry getting made?
- 4:17Yeah, yeah, cranberry sauce. I like here.
- 4:20Here's a question that can. Or is it like?
- 4:24AI don't eat it. Someone's out, out and back.
- 4:26I told you, listen, if gravy doesn't go well with it, it
- 4:30doesn't go on my Thanksgiving plate.
- 4:31There's gravy on. Everything that's now that's a
- 4:33take. I like that.
- 4:35I like that take. I'm out on that I.
- 4:36Actually think I hear. Anything that doesn't go out on
- 4:39that and once you're finished the the rolls, scoop up the rest
- 4:43of the gravy to clean plate. Bingo.
- 4:45I'm I've got two things. Number one, Mama Ray, is if I'm
- 4:48with her, Mac and cheese is going on that plate, which means
- 4:51no gravy on Mac and cheese. That's fair.
- 4:54But I, I respect technically we're making noodles, JB, look
- 4:57at that. Look at that.
- 4:58So. Well, the noodles.
- 4:59Are made. You're not making.
- 5:01You're not making the Mac and cheese and noodles you're you're
- 5:04consuming. You're taking part in the noodle
- 5:06experience. Well, I don't think he's making
- 5:07the egg noodle so so we've. Never had that's.
- 5:09What he said he he said you're making them from scratch.
- 5:12Egg. Noodles.
- 5:13My, my dad makes them, yeah. Rolls them out from scratch.
- 5:16But not everybody does that. They're still having the
- 5:19noodles, but they're not making them, right?
- 5:21Well, somebody does. Obviously you buy the Amish bag,
- 5:25you know what I mean? No, but so so we've never had
- 5:29the Mac and cheese, but I fully support Mac and cheese.
- 5:31Mac and cheese belongs with every holiday, I think.
- 5:34I think yes. I support that.
- 5:36I think if. You put the crumbs on the top or
- 5:38something to make it a little extra. 100% What's that?
- 5:42What do you do? What?
- 5:43I was like, did you put the crumbs on the top or whatever to
- 5:45make it a little? Extra She likes to bake it.
- 5:48Mama Rays likes to bake it. I'm I'm not a baked Mac and
- 5:50cheese guy. I like it creamy fresh out the
- 5:52pot. I don't need the bake.
- 5:55I don't it gets all starchy and clumpy.
- 5:57It's not for me. Where were we at the oh, the
- 6:01other thing was I had a friends giving last week and kind of a
- 6:06little potluck situation where each responsible for bringing
- 6:08something I made incredible green bean casserole.
- 6:12Like incredible. Like started like bacon.
- 6:18There's bacon chunks in there. It was unbelievable.
- 6:23Moving on. The other thing was we were in
- 6:25charge of rolls. So I'm running through the
- 6:28grocery store pages at work. I'm like, I'll find something.
- 6:31I'll find something. Where do you find rolls?
- 6:33Not near the bakery? Like all right, maybe they're
- 6:36frozen. Maybe they're like frozen rolls.
- 6:38If. You they're, they're obviously
- 6:40in the bread aisle. What?
- 6:41They weren't, they weren't, They weren't, They weren't, they
- 6:46weren't. So I'm going through the frozen
- 6:48section and you bet your bottom dollar I grabbed them Texas
- 6:56Roadhouse Rolls. OK.
- 6:58And it was the life of the party.
- 6:59Everyone was excited about it. Everyone talks about that was
- 7:02their favorite thing. My guy spent 12 hours working on
- 7:05a Turkey. I showed up with Texas Roadhouse
- 7:07Rolls and stole the trophy. That's not right.
- 7:10Yeah, that seems illegal. Yeah, it's fine.
- 7:14It's fine. So I'll say so.
- 7:16Last thing I'll say, though, there is no, how did you word
- 7:20it, the, the Great American Thanksgiving meal.
- 7:23That's what I found out in this process.
- 7:24It depends on what region you're in.
- 7:27So what's on that menu? There is not Turkey and mashed
- 7:30potatoes and stuffing. That's that's your staple.
- 7:33Everything else can be anything. That's sweet potatoes, probably
- 7:36right. They're probably in there too.
- 7:38I don't know. I think that's the biggest lie.
- 7:40Are they different from? Yams, do we know?
- 7:42I think it's the same thing. I don't eat them so I don't
- 7:45really know. No gravy on yams.
- 7:49No, I'm not. You can't.
- 7:51Can't do it. That's the biggest myth, biggest
- 7:54lie I think we're living under in America is that there's like
- 7:57this standard Thanksgiving. I I talked to 10 people.
- 8:00I'm getting 10 different plates. Yeah, it doesn't.
- 8:03It doesn't add up, doesn't compute.
- 8:06Like you all are apparently my macaroni and cheese people for
- 8:09Thanksgiving. I'm not.
- 8:11Do I wish it was there? Yes.
- 8:13But I don't. I don't necessarily.
- 8:14It's not always there. It is there many times, but is
- 8:18it there all the time? No.
- 8:20Needs. Yeah, I've, I've never had it on
- 8:22on the menu. I just support it.
- 8:24I think that would be a great. Idea.
- 8:25It's got to be like the Velveeta kind too.
- 8:26It's got to be like super unhealthy, like, you know what I
- 8:30mean, fake cheese type stuff. Yeah.
- 8:34Anyway, happy Thanksgiving folks.
- 8:36Happy Thanksgiving. Yeah, hence why we're getting an
- 8:41episode to you a day early. Give you folks some something to
- 8:46to enjoy, to consume on in your travels.
- 8:48Or maybe you're already where you're getting to and maybe
- 8:51you're just trying to get away from the in laws and need some
- 8:54downtime out on the back porch and you want to throw the pot
- 8:58on. Either way, welcome.
- 9:01If you're new here, welcome. We're going to talk some
- 9:05baseball, I think. I think that's what we'll do
- 9:09here tonight. But before we talk, before we
- 9:12talk current events, as a reminder, we're we're trying to
- 9:16incorporate some some new things, just some things to get
- 9:19the ball rolling, some more engaging content when things get
- 9:24dry as they do in the offseason. And some people's turkeys on
- 9:29Thursday. True, true.
- 9:31So we're going to we're going to read off some Facebook comments
- 9:35because what I mean, what more entertaining thing could you do?
- 9:41Then read Facebook comments to the 4000 people that chimed in
- 9:48on my post yesterday of what's a baseball hill you'll die on?
- 9:51And the reason I went with the what's a what's a baseball hill
- 9:54you'll die on? It's a nice flex by the way.
- 9:58Well, it's less of a flex and more, more of a, more of a shout
- 10:01out to the people that are sharing their, their strong
- 10:06stances because there were some, I tell you what.
- 10:09But the reason I, the reason I posted that prompt was it was in
- 10:13response to Nate and I, we did our, did a little, little
- 10:16content over the weekend and we, I think I've already actually
- 10:23put the video out, but we did some blind rankings of some
- 10:25stadiums and we got to Nate was throwing some, some parks at me
- 10:31and I was having to rank them blindly, of course, as, as blind
- 10:34rankings go. And he gets to Yankee Stadium
- 10:38and he's like, well, let's watch the bias at work here.
- 10:42And I, I had to, I had to pause. I said, let's, let's call a
- 10:46spade a spade here. Yankee Stadium, as it were.
- 10:51The current day Yankee Stadium is just the ballpark.
- 10:56There's nothing special about Yankee Stadium.
- 11:00And I said that's a hill I'll die on.
- 11:02And I stand by that. This isn't Yankee Stadium of
- 11:05old. They should have renamed Yankee
- 11:07the new Yankee Stadium to something else.
- 11:09Because you know what? It's not Yankee Stadium.
- 11:11So. What's he going to?
- 11:13Call it not Yankee Stadium. Anyway, what I said or, or my,
- 11:18my thought in, in putting that prompt on Facebook because I
- 11:22wanted to get maybe some, some thoughts from the listeners, the
- 11:25followers on social about what, what's the hell they'll die on.
- 11:28So I, I got a few there's, I mean, there's a bajillion of
- 11:31them, some of them rather literal.
- 11:33There was a, a handful of folks who said they would die on
- 11:36towels hill. If you know, you know.
- 11:39If you don't, look it up. Respect.
- 11:42But there were some that I wanted to get your thoughts on
- 11:46because controversy. Why not?
- 11:50All right, Steven says the universal DH was the right
- 11:55choice. There, I said it.
- 11:57Now that we've had the universal DH for the time that we've had
- 12:02it, do we all agree, dude? I mean, can we not, can we not
- 12:08look at how the game has has evolved with the universal DH?
- 12:12And can, can we, can we just agree that nobody wanted to
- 12:16watch a a pitcher swing a wet newspaper?
- 12:18Can we all agree? Yeah, 96% agree on that.
- 12:27So you say, of course, as I'm explaining it, and.
- 12:32Good grade. I mean, I guess, but is it a
- 12:34perfect score? Is it as confident as a?
- 12:36Of course, no. What's the, what's the missing
- 12:414%? What do you attribute that to?
- 12:45The, you know, missing element of, of double switches and
- 12:51punting because bunting is basically just disappeared in
- 12:54general. We at least we got some bunting
- 12:57back then. You know, I think I did enjoy a
- 13:02little bit of, of seeing one team be very comfortable the
- 13:10whole year doing one thing and then when they get to the World
- 13:12Series, they have to do something slightly different.
- 13:15I think there's just a little wrinkle I'm I'm the older I get,
- 13:19the more chaos I enjoy. So maybe that's maybe that's an
- 13:22aspect of it that I'm missing. That's my 4% that doesn't make
- 13:26up a ton. I'll stand on that hill, but
- 13:30right when I'm about to die I'll probably Mosey on down and find
- 13:34a good a different spot. Wesley says the plural of RBI is
- 13:39RBI. Can we let's revisit the
- 13:41conversation of RBI. What's the what's the correct?
- 13:44I mean, there's only one. What's the correct pronunciation
- 13:47of runs batted in as as an acronym?
- 13:50RBISRBIS. Because regardless how you say
- 13:58it, RBIRBIS, you're technically wrong both ways.
- 14:03That's a hill I'll die on. Why are you tracking?
- 14:08There's a way to say it and there's a way not to say it, but
- 14:11they're both wrong technically. If you want to get real
- 14:18technical, if you want to get in the weeds, which I know you love
- 14:20to get in the weeds, name technically and shout out to the
- 14:23people that that agree that that chime in with this reply.
- 14:27Colon it's. R Rs tiny S yes, it's R capital
- 14:33R lower case S A/B I Fair enough.
- 14:39Because if you say RBIs like I. I've got it, I've got it.
- 14:44That's wrong. I've got a good hill to die on
- 14:46when we're done with this. By the way, I don't think
- 14:48anyone's going to take it. Hope not. 1000 comments.
- 14:52Maybe somebody did. Maybe.
- 14:54I didn't read, maybe somebody what else we got here?
- 14:58There's another one I liked. Michael said striking out the
- 15:06side means striking out all three and only three batters in
- 15:09an inning. You cannot quote strike out the
- 15:11side while also walking two and giving up two hits and three
- 15:14runs. 100% support that. Yeah, me too.
- 15:18It has to be the entire side. Yeah, I'll be on that hill.
- 15:21I'll die. Yeah, you can't walk somebody
- 15:23and strike out three and strike out the side.
- 15:25Bury me there. We well then we have to have a
- 15:30we have to have a serious conversation because there are
- 15:32actual professional broadcasters that cover our great game that
- 15:38will take it to break saying and so and so has struck out the
- 15:43side. Meanwhile we saw 7 batters.
- 15:46How does that work? This used to be a great country.
- 15:52Bad. I agree, broadcasting degrees
- 15:54need to be a little little more minute.
- 16:00Little, little selective, more selective.
- 16:04Jay says unique field design is an underappreciated part of
- 16:08baseball's appeal. Yeah, I just think that's a
- 16:12layup. I don't think that that's you're
- 16:15screaming at too many people. I mean, I guess like, I get that
- 16:18there's like a lot of football and basketball people that are
- 16:20like, how is it that you have, you know, different dimensions
- 16:24everywhere you go? That's the beauty of it.
- 16:25That's that's why are sports better than yours, cookie
- 16:28cutter. Get out of my face.
- 16:31You said it. Yeah, you said it.
- 16:35What's your what's your hill that you're dying on?
- 16:37That it? Yeah.
- 16:39I want to hear yours. My Hill is our beautiful game is
- 16:45the only one where we can throw grammar and the English language
- 16:51out the window when someone like a broadcaster is speaking to a
- 17:01batter in a former at bat who flied out to center field.
- 17:09If I told someone I flied to Virginia for Thanksgiving, they
- 17:14would look at me very strangely. But somehow we're allowed to let
- 17:19this slide in in our game. And I'm kind of cool with it, to
- 17:23be honest with you. It's very weird.
- 17:28It's a great thing. It's not flu, it's flied.
- 17:32I flied out. I mean, I've heard both, but
- 17:34I'm. I'm with you.
- 17:35I I, yeah, I hear it's. How is it that we let that
- 17:39happen? I don't know, but I'll, I'm
- 17:40going to. I want to make sure it keeps
- 17:42making its way through. You always hear like baseball as
- 17:46a smart person sport, the reality of it is, is, yeah, like
- 17:49it, you got to be smart to get it.
- 17:51But like, we're at the end of the day, a lot of us are just
- 17:54kind of dumb and we just enjoy watching guys hit, hit balls
- 17:58with sticks, you know that. I mean, that's we're simple
- 18:00creatures, us baseball fans. Simple creatures.
- 18:04Really, truly. There's a microphone in front of
- 18:07me of all people. So that's that should tell.
- 18:10You all you need to know. By the way, I saw I saw who who,
- 18:16who TF is Nate Reyes the other day?
- 18:18And one of the comments. Love those.
- 18:21Yeah, love them. I don't know man, but my
- 18:25slogan's on a hat, so suck it. All right, man, you don't need
- 18:30to relax. You don't need to flex on them
- 18:32at hard. All right?
- 18:33All right, let's take it easy. Speaking of taking it easy, the
- 18:39Mets did not take it easy into the Thanksgiving holiday break.
- 18:43They said let's make a splash. They went out and traded Brandon
- 18:46Nimmo and the Rangers swapped Marcus Simeon.
- 18:50Let's talk about it. Kind of a is.
- 18:56Is it fair to call this a head scratcher?
- 18:59Yeah, Shocking, at the very least.
- 19:02At the very least shocking. But can we do we take a step
- 19:06further and call it a little bit of a head scratcher?
- 19:09Yes. I, I mean, if you chop it up,
- 19:13depending upon which angle you try to go into it with, I, I
- 19:16guess it makes sense like the Mets are trying to offload that
- 19:18money. Because I think you, you and I
- 19:21were both shocked when we refreshed ourselves on what's on
- 19:24what that contract was. I was shocked at the age of
- 19:28Brandon Newman. I'm shocked at the age of a lot
- 19:31of guys in baseball these days, man.
- 19:33It's it's real sad. Like Simeons?
- 19:36Guys been doing it for a decade. Simeons what, like 3535?
- 19:40He's been in the league. I think I saw today 14 years.
- 19:4713. How?
- 19:51When? 13 insane like I.
- 19:54Came up in 2013 at 22 years old. Who are we?
- 20:00What is what is time? But.
- 20:03I got to say, I mean, keeping it, keeping a big, big picture
- 20:07here off the top. I'd I like Brandon Nimmo on a
- 20:09Rangers uniform. I'm not a huge fan of that.
- 20:11You want to talk about a hill to die on?
- 20:13The one thing I cannot stand is jersey swaps before a guy has
- 20:18even touched the diamonds with the uniform.
- 20:22I can't stand it. Like, let me let me see a guy in
- 20:25the threads come opening day, OK?
- 20:29I don't. I don't want to see some shoddy
- 20:31Photoshop work of the same headshot he took a year ago with
- 20:37a new hat. And I mean it works.
- 20:39But it gives people going. It just give me something to
- 20:42look forward to. Anyway, I saw one with with
- 20:45Nimmo in the Texas threads and I got to say he he looks like he
- 20:47was meant to be a Texas Ranger. He really does.
- 20:50Wave the no trade clause for it. Yeah, what, like can we talk
- 20:54about that? Why do why do we think that was?
- 20:57Because I, I saw the, I think he was quoted saying something
- 21:01along the lines of if he feels like he could win a World Series
- 21:05with the Rangers. And I can't disagree.
- 21:11I feel like even even though Texas isn't spending as much
- 21:15money as the Mets, we all know this, We know what the situation
- 21:20is like in Queens and it's not a pretty one.
- 21:23And although they've had their moments, they've had their runs,
- 21:26it's just I feel like for Brandon Nimmo, it's got to be a
- 21:30breath of fresh air to get out of there and go try try your
- 21:34luck in another market with another team.
- 21:37Yeah, I think so too. I mean, we're talking about two
- 21:39opposite ends of the spectrum as well.
- 21:41If you're talking, if you're talking Dallas, Fort Worth and
- 21:44Queens. Yeah.
- 21:48Yeah, maybe. Maybe he wants some land.
- 21:49Who knows? Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 21:53And I think it's just there's probably this level of toxicity
- 21:56that's there. Taxes, New York versus Texas.
- 22:03That's got to be a factor. Hello.
- 22:06He's got some money back there. I don't know, man.
- 22:12I kind of seems to me like the Mets are just like trying to
- 22:15really shake things up. I kept hearing about like how
- 22:21how poorly they ranked defensively last year and pretty
- 22:26much everywhere on the field minus Lindor was like, I think
- 22:29and maybe Alvarez behind the dish was like, you know, below
- 22:34average. The most Sprint speed has been
- 22:37on the decline the most. Sprint speed has been on the
- 22:40decline his his defense has been on decline.
- 22:42He's had like pretty significant weird injuries and it's not
- 22:47like, oh, you know, I've, I've pulled my hammy.
- 22:50It's been like weird neck and back stuff.
- 22:54That's like, I know what that's like.
- 22:58I get out of bed everyday and I have weird neck and back stuff
- 23:01and I know that's a struggle. I I think it's kind of just like
- 23:07this weird wash of a trade. It's rare that we see one-on-one
- 23:11for one Major League talent trades like not talent, but
- 23:14Major League players like established vets.
- 23:17I wish there was more of those to be honest with you like I do.
- 23:20I like a good fashion fantasy style.
- 23:23Trade one for one. None of this like 16 prospects
- 23:28for a Major League ready guy. Like just give me a classic one
- 23:32for 1/2 for two kind of deal. That's the to me, that's good
- 23:36old school ball. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:39Shake up. I mean, you know, they just,
- 23:43they just let Jonah Heim walk and Adolis Garcia Garcia.
- 23:48And it's like there's obviously a shake up for Texas.
- 23:52There's obviously the I think this is like the first of more
- 23:55moves to come for both teams. Like the I think the Mets are
- 23:58going to do something and it kind of brings them, I don't
- 24:01know. Does this like, open up the Kyle
- 24:04Tucker conversation more Like, it's interesting, Casey.
- 24:11Hear me out. Speaking of things, I'm a big
- 24:15fan of big fan of David's I I really wish front offices would
- 24:23would take this stance more, David Stearns was quoted as
- 24:26saying. Well, I actually don't have the
- 24:29exact quote. I saw it today.
- 24:30It was something to the effect of it would be foolish to run
- 24:34back the same group next to try to run it back next year.
- 24:37And I'm like, I wish more teams would understand that instead.
- 24:41Of which more teams would just say that.
- 24:43Yes, instead of taking the same like we believe in our guys and
- 24:47they're like, yes, I'm all for giving your clubhouse a vote of
- 24:50confidence, but like when you when it continues to prove
- 24:54overtime and time again that it's just not working with that.
- 24:58You can have all the talent in the world, but if it doesn't
- 25:00mesh well, if it doesn't blend well, if the guys just don't
- 25:04operate as a as a functioning unit, then you have to shake
- 25:08things up. And like you said, like I was
- 25:10saying, I just wish more teams would come out and say that and
- 25:14and do what they need to do to shake things up.
- 25:16And I know that that's that doesn't always sit well with fan
- 25:18bases when they're like, how could you get rid of player XYZ?
- 25:22Like are you seeing? Are you realizing what you're
- 25:24sending out the door? It's like, sometimes that's what
- 25:27you have to do. I, I use this example a lot, but
- 25:30like, do you think like go back and look at how Red Sox fans
- 25:34felt about no more Garcia Para walking out the door in 2004 and
- 25:37then look at how 2004 ended? Sometimes you just have to make
- 25:41moves that make other things, other facets of your lineup, of
- 25:45your roster work better, even though maybe sending a single
- 25:49guy out on paper doesn't seem like the right move.
- 25:52So I'm all for, I'm all for the Mets taking that stance.
- 25:56I, you know, I've, I've, I've said my piece on the Mets
- 25:58before, but I, I'm a, I'm a big fan of, of that stance.
- 26:02We talk about like, I, I like when teams take care of up the
- 26:07middle, right? So like fluky injury from
- 26:10Alvarez behind the dish last year.
- 26:12Got to assume he's going to play more games and be more impactful
- 26:14this year. You know, obviously Frankie
- 26:17Lindor's, you know, top five shortstop, like that's taken
- 26:19care of. And now you have, you know,
- 26:22Marcus Simeon who plays all the time, literally every day.
- 26:27I think he, you know, one, one or two IO stints last year, but
- 26:31other than that, like played every day.
- 26:33He just doesn't take time off. I get that he's 35.
- 26:36I get that like offensively he's declined, but like if you are
- 26:41going to follow up with a with a Kyle Tucker signing or maybe a
- 26:46bringing Pete back or going and get other, you know, going to
- 26:50get other bats. Not to mention people aren't
- 26:54remembering that Juan Soto still there.
- 26:56Like there's still plenty of juice in that lineup.
- 27:00And like, why not try to figure out something that has been the
- 27:03issue, which is defense? Like, let's just go solve that.
- 27:07And I think it's more moves to come.
- 27:09And for the Rangers, I it's one of those that I think could
- 27:21probably look really bad by the end of it.
- 27:24I like Brandon Nimmo. I like what he brings to, you
- 27:26know, to the lineup now. But like, it's one of those
- 27:30things. But by the end of this thing
- 27:31when it's 20292030 and it's like you're playing 7080 games a year
- 27:39and we're having issues and you know, it's it's below average
- 27:44left field defense. It's like, you know, I don't
- 27:47know, I don't know. They're like weird team.
- 27:50I can't figure the Rangers out. Yeah, but if you randomly won 90
- 27:54games in one World Series and then like all every other year
- 27:57around that 10 year range, you've been like cheeks like I
- 28:01don't. What is that?
- 28:03Who are they? If you take the optimistic
- 28:05route, though, it could be one of those deals that ends up on
- 28:08the on the other side of it. Yeah, it even win, win maybe
- 28:13sounds strong, but it's like. You could.
- 28:15Win, win, win. We all win.
- 28:19No, it could be one of those deals where you look at it and
- 28:22go, maybe it wasn't a as as much of A slam dunk win win, but it
- 28:27it worked out for both teams that like it wasn't like the
- 28:31you, you weren't getting perennial All Stars on on the
- 28:33back back ends of the contracts, but you got serviceable guys who
- 28:38ended up posting that. Again, that's if you take the
- 28:40optimistic route. If Nimmo is able to string
- 28:43together couples a few seasons where he can post.
- 28:46But yeah, I, like I said, kind of kind of shocked me,
- 28:52especially this early, but. These are the tough thing that
- 28:56like if Simeon doesn't show up and do his thing like that and
- 28:59if if he has the same offensive year he had last year.
- 29:02I don't think that's going to happen.
- 29:03I really don't. I think to your point you're
- 29:06getting, you're, you're shoring up the, the middle of the field
- 29:08a little bit. And the other thing too is
- 29:10you're, you're recouping some of the some of next year's payroll
- 29:14to go out and, and make more moves because like you said, I
- 29:18don't think either team is is necessarily done.
- 29:21And the Mets I think are netting like, what are they like 20?
- 29:29What are they net like 25, give or take, 'cause I think I think
- 29:33I saw that the Mets shipped in like another five.
- 29:39Yeah, it's about about that the. Length of the rest of the
- 29:43contract or just next year I think.
- 29:48In total, in total, I think in total, yeah.
- 29:50Yeah, I think it knocks like a million off each one each year
- 29:53because it's just five. They sent 5 million over.
- 29:55So it essentially just knocks a million off, which puts Nimmo
- 29:58under 20 million. Yeah, so we'll see what they I
- 30:03mean the the Mets have proven they're not really all that
- 30:05concerned about trying to save a penny here there as much
- 30:09recently, but we'll see what happens but it.
- 30:12Can't be there a move of the offseason.
- 30:14That's all I'm going to. Say no and I don't think it will
- 30:16be. Just for the record, on Nimmo
- 30:18151 games at least the last four years.
- 30:21So those injuries are kind of there's, there's some things
- 30:25that that I've heard are nagging, but he's still playing.
- 30:28Yeah, he plays through it, which almost makes you wonder like is
- 30:30it, is that worse? Like are would I rather you take
- 30:33a couple weeks off so you can get back to healthy like?
- 30:35There are certain guys where. You said Sprint speed is going
- 30:38down, these defenses going down like that stuff falling to me,
- 30:42if that is the aspect of your game, that's scary.
- 30:47I know he had like a random like 30 home run year.
- 30:51This is last year was the year before.
- 30:55Now this last year was his top 25.
- 30:58That was his career high. 25. This like this year 2025.
- 31:04This isn't a slight towards Nivo, this is just a general
- 31:07comment, but there are certain guys in the league.
- 31:10General comment there's certain guys in the league where even
- 31:15you would you would take them over anybody else, even 80% is
- 31:20Brandon Nimmo the kind of guy where he's going to get moving
- 31:23forward, He's going to give you the output that would still be
- 31:26more serviceable than the guy behind him on the on the depth
- 31:30chart. If if it means him plain like, I
- 31:35mean, he's he's been he's been pretty solid for the Mets.
- 31:40But if these things continue to nag, continue to linger, it's
- 31:45only going to get worse. He's not getting any younger,
- 31:47so. Yeah.
- 31:49We shall see. We also, we also shall see what
- 31:56moves the Red Sox have left in the chamber after this Sonny,
- 32:02this trade for Sonny Gray. There's there's people, I'm not
- 32:05going to say who there's people out there that think that he
- 32:09would be fine as a #2 they may even be on this stream.
- 32:14It's it's hard to say. I, I don't know, I don't like
- 32:16naming names, but just know that there is someone out there or
- 32:20multiple people out there that think that he would be a fun or
- 32:22two. I disagree because, you know, as
- 32:27much as I love a particular team in Pittsburgh Pirates, I, I
- 32:32think there's different standards when it comes to a
- 32:36team like the Boston Red Sox and a team like the Pirates,
- 32:39Pirates. It's, you were talking about a
- 32:42#2 in Boston. A #2 in Boston is a number one
- 32:47in Pittsburgh. You know, forget Paul Skeens.
- 32:50I'm just saying, yeah, I was just saying, come on, relax,
- 32:52relax, relax. Bad example.
- 32:55Relax just on paper, traditionally, I mean, but
- 33:00let's, who are we kidding, Skeens?
- 33:02Skeens isn't going to be there in how many years?
- 33:04So this this example will hold up in like 5 years.
- 33:11I, I think he is better positioned on the back half of
- 33:16that rotation. I, I think optimistically, I
- 33:19would like to think that the Red Sox still have a move yet to
- 33:21make. There are, there are plenty or I
- 33:25don't know if plenty is the right word, but there are
- 33:28multiple free agent arms out there worth pursuing.
- 33:31I know they, they've continued to express interest in a guy
- 33:34like Joe Ryan. They were interested in that at
- 33:37the deadline. Who's who's really to say what,
- 33:40what that market looks like now, now that we are now that we're
- 33:44in the offseason. I know I've heard Framber
- 33:47Valdez's name thrown out there, which after what we learned this
- 33:51year, not interested. But All in all though, I like
- 33:57the move as, as rotation depth. This is a guy that can make
- 34:02meaningful, impactful starts for you moving forward.
- 34:07And frankly, I don't, I don't think you had to give up all
- 34:12that much. And especially since the
- 34:13Cardinals are kicking back. What was it 20 million to, to
- 34:18really offset this? You're not bringing on the full
- 34:204040 million. So I, I like the move.
- 34:28The only the only thing I will say Nate and.
- 34:30What's your hesitation get get into that?
- 34:32You can speak to this is what Sonny Gray can do in a in a
- 34:39bigger market. That's the only thing that I'm
- 34:41I'm I'm hesitant slash leery about.
- 34:44Well, maybe I'll help you out a little bit because the I think
- 34:49there was a philosophy issue in New York.
- 34:52I know that there is obviously the added pressure of being in
- 34:56that market, but like I there was also that some pictures just
- 35:00don't buy into the philosophy and they have a very specific
- 35:04pitching philosophy that didn't really seem to gel that well.
- 35:11And he openly talked about like, I don't want to throw my change
- 35:14up that often. And then you know what I mean?
- 35:16Like there was, there was comments made.
- 35:19So to me, I, I, I kind of, I like the move.
- 35:26Like I, I'm worried about the move.
- 35:28I guess that's what I should say.
- 35:29Like as a Yankee fan, the move makes me worried.
- 35:33Ridiculous. The move makes me worried.
- 35:36Stop it, stop it. The move makes me worried.
- 35:40So I But I think that should tell you all that you need to
- 35:45know because the reality is like, he has kind of settled
- 35:49into who he is. He's figured out who he is and
- 35:53put up some good numbers. Is he a true 2?
- 35:57I don't know. It's hard to say but it's a good
- 36:01move. Cherry picking.
- 36:07It's ridiculous. I need to figure out and make
- 36:09these freaking buttons JB help me.
- 36:15Kyle, can I ask you this? Do the Red Sox still have Abreu,
- 36:18Duran, Anthony Rafaela, Justinson, Garcia?
- 36:21I mean, there's no moves to make.
- 36:23They've got 5 outfielders who could be starters in this
- 36:26league. I'm hoping and praying and it's
- 36:29nothing against William Brayu, but for some reason I just
- 36:34haven't been able to like really get emotionally attached there.
- 36:37Like I, I'm a, I've, I've really grown into becoming a, a big
- 36:41Duran guy, you know, even with his, even with his on field, off
- 36:49the field things that he gets into at times.
- 36:54He's got edge to him. I like it.
- 36:55It yeah, well, sometimes maybe some would say it goes a little
- 36:58too far, but you know, All in all, he's I think he I think
- 37:01he'll mature, but I, I still think even as he gets older,
- 37:05assuming his his speed is going to decline, I still think his
- 37:09skill set is, is of value. And I just think, like you were
- 37:14saying, Nate, his the edge that he brings.
- 37:16He brings a little bit of attitude which I think every
- 37:20team needs. And a little.
- 37:23There's a little Pedroia to him. A little bit of a little bit of
- 37:27dirt dog mentality to him. Yeah, and and I always love
- 37:31that, but it's that would mean if he were to stay, which he he
- 37:37apparently coming into the offseason, according to this,
- 37:41that and the third outlets covering the most likely trade
- 37:44candidates. Duran was on just about
- 37:47everybody's top ten list, which I wasn't thrilled about
- 37:50considering my city connect uni that I I picked up this this
- 37:55summer was in fact a 16. But because of that, it means
- 38:01that will you would have to be presumably the guy to go.
- 38:05Yeah, I don't know, man. You guys, you got pieces.
- 38:10It's just it just as a team that just hasn't pulled trigger when
- 38:16everyone thought they would. So I'm interested to see how the
- 38:19rest of the offseason goes. But I mean, if you throw in a,
- 38:26you know, Mitch Keller or a maybe Dylan Cease, I don't know
- 38:33if that's on the table. I don't know if that's in the
- 38:35rumors. But if you throw one of those
- 38:36guys in as your two and then Sonny Grace slides like, I'm
- 38:40sure you'd be pretty thrilled with that rotation.
- 38:44Can I Would would I be judged for saying that?
- 38:50Would I take Dylan sees as a #2? Absolutely.
- 38:54While also saying that Dylan sees a a Dylan sees acquisition
- 38:59doesn't excite me as much as maybe it did.
- 39:03I just I mean I. Don't have to go.
- 39:05Yeah, and JB brings up a good point because, like, I don't see
- 39:07the point of spending your, you know, free agent money on
- 39:13pitching when you have all the pieces to just go make a move
- 39:18and they've already made a move that did nothing to the pieces.
- 39:22Like, I don't even know, no disrespect, but like, I don't
- 39:26think those are impact players that got moved.
- 39:29Dick Fitz ain't the ain't going to be, you know, hoisting up an
- 39:33MVP trophy at any point. So like, no disrespect, but
- 39:37like, I think I think there's moves that could be could be
- 39:41made. You're going to piss me off with
- 39:43that real soon. We're three episodes in the
- 39:45offseason. You better you better buckle up,
- 39:47buddy. The no, I'm with you.
- 39:52I I had no issue parting ways with with old, old Dickey Fitz.
- 40:00But the the other the other thing to keep in mind too is
- 40:02offloading Devers contracts. Plays into this like you do like
- 40:08I, I understand what you're saying about having the pieces,
- 40:09but you also like again, the Boston Red Sox, you have no room
- 40:13to sit here and cry poor. You have no reason to sit here
- 40:16and play it conservatively. Now is the time to go.
- 40:19You're going to get Roman Anthony back healthy again.
- 40:22You're presumably going to sign, from what I'm hearing, you're
- 40:25presumably going to bring either Bregman back or you're going to
- 40:28bring a guy like Pete Alonso in. So and you've got Crochet
- 40:33clicking on all cylinders. As we saw, you're already adding
- 40:37to the rotation. Like now is the time to go.
- 40:39Now is not the time to play it safe, to play it conservatively.
- 40:42So I, I think you could, I, I still think there is, there are
- 40:46moves to be made in both realms, both in the spending facet of
- 40:50things as well as the, the trade route.
- 40:53Yeah, that's just me. It's another no trade clause
- 40:57that was waived too. Corrects.
- 41:00Yep. Yep.
- 41:02Which I mean, why? I mean, why wouldn't you want to
- 41:04come to Boston, honestly? I mean just a, just a great
- 41:07city, a great, a great town, really great place to play.
- 41:13You're going to be. Chewing this guy alive by July.
- 41:20No, honestly. And I and I say that given he's
- 41:28a back half of the rotation guy, if we, if we, if if by July,
- 41:32that is the role that he is in and has been serving for the
- 41:37previous however many months of the season, then I'll look at it
- 41:41accordingly. But if, if he comes in and he is
- 41:44in fact the number 2 for whatever reason, then yeah, I'm
- 41:46going to have some, I'm going to have some issues.
- 41:48And it's not necessarily going to be his fault either.
- 41:51Over 180 innings, 2 of his last three years.
- 41:54Yeah, he eats, he eats him up, he eats him up, which which I
- 41:58love. Some good old fashioned innings
- 42:03eater. Let's Yeah.
- 42:08Any other thoughts on that before we get into?
- 42:10We've got some DMS here. Got to assume the Cardinals just
- 42:17keep moving people. Another big one over at 3rd
- 42:21that's got to go. Sure, they're not done.
- 42:26A lot of teams calling on Donovan, too.
- 42:29Yeah, Brendan Donovan's a dude. Just glad to see that Heim Bloom
- 42:40and and his former club are on working terms so might be more.
- 42:48There might be more there, who knows?
- 42:51DMS Greg wants to know. Well, he qualifies it with long
- 42:59time listener. Here.
- 43:01Thank you, Greg. Greg asks.
- 43:02Do the Braves return to prominence next season?
- 43:08I'm more in the camp that last year was a little fluky.
- 43:15Lot of injuries, lot of bad luck.
- 43:17I mean, saw Spencer Strider just kind of implode almost.
- 43:22You got to wonder if he like fully regained his strength and
- 43:26health. And so a full offseason with him
- 43:29and, you know, just kind of letting some guys come back and
- 43:31do his thing. There's there's pressure.
- 43:34I'm going to say there's more pressure on an Austin Riley
- 43:38Amatio that they need to, you know, start becoming who they
- 43:41were paid and brought in to be. You've been.
- 43:44Preaching that for I feel like the last two years at least like
- 43:48Austin Riley, you got to. That's kind of baffling to me.
- 43:55It's very odd. They got the NL rookie of the
- 43:57year though, you know, so a little something there.
- 44:01Maybe they move on from Ozzy Alby's curious to see what
- 44:05happens, you know, if maybe filling in the DH role or do
- 44:09they, you know, Azure kind of kind of just like blockades the
- 44:14DH and so maybe they utilize this to allow some more
- 44:19flexibility with their lineup day-to-day.
- 44:21And I don't know, I I thought last year was a fluke.
- 44:26I don't think they're that I'm not going to sit here and sit
- 44:29here and come back and win 90 plus games.
- 44:32I don't know, but I don't think they're that on the fence answer
- 44:41the. Lineups.
- 44:41The lineups still there though. I am still there.
- 44:45You still have A and you got Sean Murphy, MVP candidate.
- 44:49Yeah, I think they're, I think the Sean Murphy thing is done.
- 44:53He's got to be right. Hold on, roll out of bed who?
- 44:56Acuna. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:00Go get a shortstop. Like, dear Lord, what?
- 45:04Get that? Done.
- 45:05I I still stand by. I might take class.
- 45:07Offseason, the will or was it I? Time is a joke to me right now.
- 45:12Was it last offseason that I made the Willy Adamas
- 45:15prediction? Was this his first year in San
- 45:17Fran? Yeah.
- 45:18I thought that would have been a great fit.
- 45:20Yeah, go get a go get a freaking shortstop.
- 45:22Stop messing around. You wouldn't have had to break
- 45:26the bank for that comparatively to other shortstops trying to
- 45:29leak like that. I just felt that would have
- 45:30been. A yeah, Anthony Volpe's up for
- 45:32sale if you're interested. I'm good.
- 45:38Any who's next on the next on the list?
- 45:40Take these buttons away from you, do you?
- 45:42Disagree. No.
- 45:45Moving on. Yeah, that's what that's what I
- 45:50thought. You've, I don't think you've
- 45:53once defended Anthony Volpe, can't.
- 45:56Good kid, good kid. Great.
- 45:58Kid, I'm sure, I'm sure. Big Yankee fan grown up, in case
- 46:03you didn't know. Didn't know that I.
- 46:05Know that it was crazy. Nobody ever talks about it.
- 46:08I wish they would, that it'd be more of a story.
- 46:11You actually met Derek Jeter growing up too?
- 46:13Didn't know that either. It's insane.
- 46:16Italian. What a small world.
- 46:18Yeah, he was actually at the World Series parade back in 09.
- 46:23It's insane, you know that? Yeah, it's insane.
- 46:27Anyways, Murray wants to know. On the topic of food, going back
- 46:32to food, Ray Murray our guy wants to know one non home
- 46:38cooked last meal, drink and dessert.
- 46:42Non home cooked. Yeah, because you, you, I mean,
- 46:46it's a little dark, but it's nostalgia.
- 46:48Wise you're like, I want mom's this.
- 46:50Or well, dad's this right, right.
- 46:52And it and it's a little dark, but the the premise is always,
- 46:54well, you're on death row what you're like.
- 46:57Let's, let's we. Can we'll slide that to the
- 46:59side, let's just say. But he's specifically saying
- 47:03drink and. Dessert.
- 47:05So basically the full slate your meal, your drink, your dessert.
- 47:12You go. I don't know if you're probably
- 47:14quicker on the draw with this. Home.
- 47:15Cook. If you say cookout, I'm going to
- 47:18kick you in your shin. Well, dessert is in play here.
- 47:24Also. We got to go to a a different
- 47:26cookout. The one I we went right, The one
- 47:28I took you to barely passes. As a cookout it was OK.
- 47:32It's a a Northern Virginia cookout is not a cookout.
- 47:37No disrespect. All right guy, let's lock in
- 47:40here full non home cooked meal, correct?
- 47:44Not meal out of the house dessert, an appetizer or.
- 47:51It just says meal, drink, dessert.
- 47:54I mean, you can throw an app in there if you want, but it sounds
- 47:56like you're already having a hard enough time with the the.
- 47:58Drink. The drink is is absolutely 100%
- 48:02of Doctor Pepper I that could be the last thing I ever want to
- 48:07taste in general. So Doctor Pepper for sure.
- 48:13Desserts. I can make a note and I'll just
- 48:18pass it along to the medical staff.
- 48:21Should you go before me to just hook the IV up to a what are
- 48:27those called? Like the fountain machines?
- 48:29Yeah, crispy. With.
- 48:32With DP Crispy Dr. Pepper, Dr. Pip drink, I mean, I look, I
- 48:39mean food, I don't know. But dessert, I'm going to say
- 48:44probably an unpopular choice here because I've had a lot of
- 48:51good desserts, but if it can't be home cooked, I'd like to have
- 48:58a chip, which those are unbelievable.
- 49:03Those are I got to have one a day.
- 49:06I got to have a chip. Which one a day, JB, you know
- 49:11what that you know what that is? They talked about that in Ohio.
- 49:15Ice cream cookie sandwich. Oh.
- 49:18But it's got to be the one that's rolled with all the
- 49:21chocolate chips all the way around.
- 49:23Don't hit me with just plain vanilla.
- 49:27I need chocolate chips and every bite.
- 49:33My dessert I might go. By the way, oh.
- 49:36Shout them out, man. They closed, they closed doors,
- 49:38but you know, hey served an important role.
- 49:43So they're like. You, you told me they're like
- 49:45Dun Dun Dun Dun. That's maybe maybe we, we don't
- 49:51even tell them. Maybe we just bring them on as
- 49:53like an like a sponsor and people like.
- 49:56Try to resurgent. Yeah, that's.
- 49:57Sick you're sponsored by this ice cream shop and they're like,
- 50:01yeah, don't look into it though, but they're they're really
- 50:03they're so solid. Four O 4.
- 50:06Error thing when you look up their.
- 50:09Website. No, it's like I got to have a
- 50:11chip, which told you. It's just, it's unbelievable.
- 50:15They're insane, They're perfect. I think my dessert would I, if
- 50:20I, if I put more time into this, I'd probably come up with a
- 50:24different answer. But honestly, what's coming to
- 50:25mind right now And I, I could, I could have one of these just
- 50:30about every day is a piece of New York style cheesecake.
- 50:34I was thinking of along those realms.
- 50:36Do you have a specific place? Honestly, no, I'm not a I'm not
- 50:41a cheesecake snob. As long as it's not like super
- 50:44hardcore ricotta. I mean, I know.
- 50:48Like seen the way they're made, they're insane.
- 50:50I don't like to ask questions. It's.
- 50:52So weird it. I was, I was liquid.
- 50:56I I was older than I would like to admit when I found out that
- 51:02cheesecake is actually made with cheese.
- 51:09Well, cream cheese, right? There's like cream cheese is in
- 51:12play there. I think a little, but not.
- 51:15Yeah, I just didn't want to ask questions.
- 51:17I mean, it's not like sharp cheddar or anything.
- 51:20No, it was like that, that Andy Dwyer was that Andy Dwyer line
- 51:24where he was like, I'm at this point, I don't know and I'm too
- 51:27afraid. I'm just too afraid to ask.
- 51:29It's kind of how it was with cheesecake, but.
- 51:30You like a? Do you like any of the the
- 51:33drizzle on top? Sure, yeah, fruit, Raspberry,
- 51:36strawberry, chocolate or caramel, whatever.
- 51:39Is your drink just, I'm assuming, just straight up
- 51:42Coca-Cola? I'd probably go yeah with the
- 51:46perfect carbonation, meaning a lot of carbonation.
- 51:51Need a lot. Are you a Mexican Coke?
- 51:53Guy. Oh yeah.
- 51:55That cane sugar is. Yeah.
- 51:58Unbeatable. My in laws, they, they, I mean,
- 52:02I'm sure they enjoy them for themselves, but they hook it up.
- 52:05They're like, hey, we got you your glass bottles downstairs in
- 52:08the fridge. That's nice.
- 52:10Because I just know. Just know that.
- 52:14'D probably be my beverage. Either that or Cherry Coke, but
- 52:17one of the two and then entree. Wise.
- 52:20I mean, I don't. I've got too many, too many
- 52:22answers. I could take you through my day
- 52:26like if it was my last day, how I would map it out.
- 52:31We've done this before, like many, many moons ago.
- 52:34I feel like I remember, I remember having this
- 52:36conversation of like what, what the breakfast, lunch and dinner
- 52:39would be. It's kind of a kind of a, again,
- 52:45if I spent more time thinking about it, I'd probably come up
- 52:47with something different. But one that comes to mind is of
- 52:49of Five Guys Bacon cheeseburger. Really.
- 52:53Yeah. And like people are going to,
- 52:55people probably think and do this.
- 52:56You're like you're dying. You're right, you do.
- 52:59You exactly, But the other thing too is like people probably hear
- 53:02this and go, well, wouldn't you want to go to like the most
- 53:04expensive steak? It's like, no, I, I'm a I'm a
- 53:07simple creature. I like.
- 53:09Steak over restaurant steak most of the time.
- 53:12Right. I just, I'm I'm OK with a nice
- 53:16quality bacon cheeseburger. I don't need a whole bunch of
- 53:19fancy stuff. In fact, I would probably prefer
- 53:21a bacon cheeseburger to a lot of your all's fancy foods.
- 53:24You're not a big steak guy either, so that's well
- 53:26documented. I will eat steak, but it's not
- 53:28the first thing I'm getting when I sit down at a restaurant.
- 53:32Unless I'm at a steakhouse then. Conversation's different.
- 53:37I don't know why. I don't know what the slander is
- 53:39for. I I have mistakes medium well I
- 53:41don't I don't know what the issue is.
- 53:45Sure. Do you or do you not believe me?
- 53:50Do you want me to like go and take a picture?
- 53:52Where it's like it's medium well and you're like secretly hoping
- 53:55it comes out more well than medium.
- 53:57No, I, I In fact, I hope it comes out more pink, I think
- 54:02than medium. Well, but I don't want to take
- 54:04the step of actually asking for medium.
- 54:07You know what I mean? Why?
- 54:10It's because then you run the risk of taking it pushing the
- 54:14envelope to the next stage. And I'm, I'm just, I'm
- 54:17comfortable with where. Are you ordering these steaks?
- 54:19Is this like a Texas Roadhouse situation or is this like a?
- 54:23Oh no dude, I'm 32 and I will proudly admit that I get the
- 54:27chicken critters at Texas Roadhouse so fast.
- 54:33So fast. I don't hate the play.
- 54:35I don't hate the play. The.
- 54:36Chicken critters it. I mean the name alone is top
- 54:39shelf but then you throw in the honey mustard.
- 54:43I'll be 60 getting chicken critters.
- 54:45For this hack that you get the, you get the like the boneless
- 54:48wings there and then you, you just have the rolls.
- 54:52You just cut open the rolls, pop one of those boneless wings in.
- 54:56Oh yeah. I didn't know they had boneless
- 54:59wings there. Are you talking about the
- 55:00chicken critters? How?
- 55:02How big are the critters? Are they the long ones or the?
- 55:05Tenders, yeah. No, I think these are actual
- 55:07like. I don't know that I.
- 55:10Boneless way I knew that. Which are just just Nuggets, by
- 55:13the way people tossed in sauce. That's a hill I'll die on.
- 55:19I'm look, I'll just run through it real quick.
- 55:21New York bagel to start my day. Joe's Pizza for lunch.
- 55:34I don't know, guy, dinner's tough.
- 55:37Look, I'll be honest with you, if you're going to throw out
- 55:39Five Guys, I'll throw Shake Shack out there as a as a
- 55:42potential for me, the burger from Shake Shack is.
- 55:46Which is crazy because like the trips that we've gone on, I
- 55:49don't I'm outside of you taking me when we're when we're in
- 55:52Denver for the Rockies Sox game way back when we haven't made a
- 55:56stop at. Shake Shack, I don't think no,
- 55:57We should. We should.
- 55:59We need to change things up a little.
- 56:02For the record, I, I, I will, I guess I'll officially submit my
- 56:06Five Guys bacon cheeseburger. But I, like I said, I, I don't,
- 56:10I don't feel great about that pick.
- 56:12There's probably something I'm just completely missing.
- 56:14Yeah, I agree. This is on the spot question.
- 56:16We'll map that out a little more.
- 56:19We'll dive into that. Is that it on the DMS?
- 56:22That's how we. Yeah, just a couple.
- 56:23I knew we were going to go long on that, so I didn't.
- 56:25I didn't work because I knew we also had trivia to wrap things
- 56:29up. Josh, what do you got for us on
- 56:30the trivia? Josh in the corner.
- 56:33Yeah, First off. Can we get it?
- 56:34I I want to get a shirt made for Josh.
- 56:36Josh in the corner that can be his on his on screen.
- 56:40On the offline hang up in the background, yeah.
- 56:43By the way, I will go cheeseburger or steak either.
- 56:47Specifically where though? Do I have to?
- 56:50I mean, the burger is, I don't know, I like, I could go for
- 56:55Five Guys. I could go a lot of places.
- 56:59Something like that though. Like a smash burger type, you
- 57:03know what I'm saying? Something like that.
- 57:05Yeah, Smash Burger way overrated, by the way.
- 57:07No, no. It's, I mean, OK, so.
- 57:09Not the constant. When I say when I say smash
- 57:11burger. Like the place?
- 57:13Yeah, way overrated. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:14Not. The con I'm talking about, I'm
- 57:16just talking about that. Type of cold style.
- 57:18Five guys, is that style too, Really.
- 57:20They're a little smashy. Yeah, they're smash, but we're
- 57:24not doing the onions and all that.
- 57:25Like I'm just saying, I want, you know, double cheeseburger,
- 57:28bacon, all that. Or an Outback steak.
- 57:32I like Outback dessert, BJ's snickerdoodle, Pizookie.
- 57:37Ah, Pizookie, I want my baby. Back, baby, back, baby, back.
- 57:41I want my baby. Back that's.
- 57:43Chili. Oh yeah, that's Chili's.
- 57:45Yeah. I was thinking blooming onion.
- 57:47I was thinking Bloom. Which is Outback.
- 57:49We're going, we're going. BJ's.
- 57:51Yeah, BJ's for the dessert. Snickerdoodle.
- 57:55Only seasonal, but that's the one.
- 57:57That's the one. I love me a good.
- 58:00And I'll have a root beer. Look at us covering all the
- 58:04actually. No, I, I can in good faith go
- 58:07with New York style cheesecake. I'm going to have to go.
- 58:09I, I got to go cook out shake. I mean, that's like, that's just
- 58:13my eating him up. It really was.
- 58:15It just didn't feel like me. I'm like New York style.
- 58:17I mean, I love it, but I come on, that's not going to be my
- 58:21last dessert. Who am I kidding anyways?
- 58:23What are you adding in? What do you mean?
- 58:27What do you choose the toppings there?
- 58:28Oh. For the yeah, yeah, well, you
- 58:32can, a lot of people don't know this, but you can, you can, you
- 58:36can double up, triple up even I think quadruple up on toppings
- 58:40there that they mix in. So I get like the one I usually
- 58:44get when we go when our when, when I go to the beach with the
- 58:47in laws, I usually start off each week with a Oreo M&M shake,
- 58:52very solid, very solid. Oreo and M&M, Yep.
- 58:57Is it a standard M&M? Is it a mini M&M, mini?
- 59:01Those hit different. I don't care if you think.
- 59:04Well, it's all chopped up honestly, so it's hard to say,
- 59:06but yeah, sure. I want to say they're mini but.
- 59:09Sure. If if not that chocolate chip
- 59:13cheesecake flavor, that's the best of both worlds actually, so
- 59:17maybe that might be my move. Anyway, it's nice cheesecake.
- 59:20Yeah, I could get some peanut butter situation going in my
- 59:24dessert. I wouldn't eat peanut butter at
- 59:26some point that day. Sorry, we don't.
- 59:30We're out of time. We're out of time.
- 59:31It's time for trivia. Yeah.
- 59:33Yeah. So keeping it on the food thing
- 59:35a little bit. I'm, I'm a little bit upset that
- 59:37neither of you mentioned that the trade between the Mets and
- 59:42the Rangers was Tater for Sauce. The Nimmo's nickname is Tater.
- 59:49Simeon's nickname is Sauce, and it's just too good to ignore.
- 59:53But it has. To be said.
- 59:55It has to be said. I think there's a reason you
- 59:58didn't know that Nate are are these are we missing?
- 1:00:01Like are we just completely oblivious or is this just one of
- 1:00:04those like nicknames that baseball reference has but
- 1:00:07nobody actually calls them? Because I'm I'm seeing more and
- 1:00:10more of that. Yes, they.
- 1:00:12Are known, but they also are baseball reference official.
- 1:00:17Kind of like the relationship status back in the day.
- 1:00:19Facebook official. Right.
- 1:00:22You got it on baseball reference it's going to count.
- 1:00:24Simeon actually is listed Mockus sauce or semi and Nemo as nims
- 1:00:32or tater. I don't get the tater thing.
- 1:00:36I don't get it. Perfect example, Rafael Devers,
- 1:00:40his nickname and the Giants are pushing this real hard, I think
- 1:00:43because they just wanted to stick stick out from like what
- 1:00:45the Red Sox went with. But they're they his nickname on
- 1:00:49baseball reference is Karita. And I'm like nobody calls him
- 1:00:53that. Nobody in Boston for the
- 1:00:55entirety of his career there called him that.
- 1:00:57What is that? Is that anime thing?
- 1:01:00What it? No, it's AI.
- 1:01:02Don't. I don't know what it means in
- 1:01:03Spanish. It's like little something.
- 1:01:07Little face. It's maybe like a babyface
- 1:01:12thing, yeah. Spanish word for little face.
- 1:01:17There you go. Yeah, mystery solved.
- 1:01:22Yeah, a little baby face that. I mean, that adds up, so yeah.
- 1:01:25Let's keep the let's keep it going here with the with the
- 1:01:27trivia here because I I wanted to keep it on brand here.
- 1:01:30You got Sonny Gray, Simeon, Brandon Nimmo, all three, all
- 1:01:35three drafted in 2011. So a little draft trivia here.
- 1:01:40OK. Vanderbilt for Sonny Gray.
- 1:01:44Yes, you're right. Vanderbilt for sunny Gray.
- 1:01:47So round one, pick 13 Mets got Brandon Nimmo out of East High
- 1:01:51School Cheyenne, WY. Pick 18.
- 1:01:54The A's got Sunny Gray out of Vanderbilt Round six, pick 22 O
- 1:01:57one overall White Sox got sauce out of UC Berkeley from that
- 1:02:04draft class. Simeon has the third highest
- 1:02:07Wore 49.2. Wore Sunny Gray eighth highest
- 1:02:1133.8. Brandon Nimmo rounds out the top
- 1:02:141026.1. The trivia is there are 14
- 1:02:17players from that draft with over 20 career WAR, which is
- 1:02:20actually kind of crazy. How many can you name?
- 1:02:26And then while you're thinking and then we'll then we'll see.
- 1:02:29Yes, there are 14 players with over 20 career WAR.
- 1:02:32Just think of the a excuse me, the age a little bit Nimmo a
- 1:02:35little bit younger because drafted out of high school.
- 1:02:36There's a couple of those in there and and we'll do hints to
- 1:02:40keep it moving. But while you're thinking, I had
- 1:02:44to go back to 2018 to find a trade where there were two
- 1:02:47players who were making over $20 million who were traded for each
- 1:02:51other. December 2018, the Cleveland
- 1:02:56Indians sent Yandi Diaz and Cole Sulcer to the Rays and Edwin
- 1:03:00Incarnacion the the 20 million guy and a pick to the Mariners.
- 1:03:06Rays sent cash to the Mariners, Jake Bowers to the Indians.
- 1:03:09Mariners sent Carlos Santana, he was making 20.3 in 2019.
- 1:03:14So that was like clear back there to see.
- 1:03:16Now that was like a three team trade, so a little bit weird on
- 1:03:19that one. The year before that was the
- 1:03:21Braves and Dodgers trade where Matt Kemp was traded back to the
- 1:03:25Dodgers, Adrian Gonzalez, Culberson, Casmir McCarthy.
- 1:03:32And then remember, the Braves just released Adrian Gonzalez
- 1:03:35and paid him $22 million to play for the Mets, actually so.
- 1:03:41That's a lot of money moving. Moving back and forth too
- 1:03:44typically and Kyle, you talked about this earlier where it's
- 1:03:48typically it's big money for a bunch of prospects anymore.
- 1:03:51It's rare to see Major League for Major League trades.
- 1:03:56Hopefully that's the thing we see more of.
- 1:03:58Yeah, I do like that. All right, so back to the 2011
- 1:04:01draft class. I've got to guess.
- 1:04:03Yeah, although 2020 WAR seems a little steep.
- 1:04:07And I frankly, I've been so checked out of this individual's
- 1:04:11career for years at this point. No disrespect, but maybe I
- 1:04:16don't. Maybe he got it.
- 1:04:18He he could be so far off. Can I throw Chris Bryant into
- 1:04:22the ring? Chris.
- 1:04:24Bryant that is interesting to to think.
- 1:04:31Was he draft? Was he in that class?
- 1:04:33So that's what a writer for there he was not in the 2011
- 1:04:37class. Was he not?
- 1:04:38What class was he in? Let's let's.
- 1:04:41Thought I had a pretty good pull there.
- 1:04:43Yeah. It's got to be.
- 1:04:44Plus, it's got. To be close.
- 1:04:46Like a year. 2013. Two years, you lose 2 years.
- 1:04:52All right, big guy, let's let's see who you throw out.
- 1:04:56Over 20 wore. I feel like we're going to think
- 1:05:00it's. One of them no longer in
- 1:05:05baseball. This is pre, the rest are still
- 1:05:08active. Yes, although one of them you,
- 1:05:13it is kind of pseudo active and you'll you'll know when we get
- 1:05:18to him. You've you've had a lot of of
- 1:05:21content around this guy. This is pre Harper draft by the
- 1:05:24way. Harper was what, 2012?
- 1:05:28Stay with that team and you'll know exactly who I just
- 1:05:30referenced. Well, that I said is pseudo
- 1:05:34active. Right, but Harper was 2012 draft
- 1:05:40I believe or no? No, he was 2011 because he was
- 1:05:42rookie year. He's not.
- 1:05:46He. He was 2010.
- 1:05:49He got an CED early. He's he's my age.
- 1:05:51But you guys read early, yeah? 2010.
- 1:05:54Ricky the year 2012, yes. Yeah, give me like a Jock
- 1:05:58Peterson. I don't know if he's got 20
- 1:06:00award though. Yeah, I don't see him.
- 1:06:08It's not. He's not there but I'm looking
- 1:06:10up to see when he was drafted 2010 as well.
- 1:06:14Maybe we should revise the tribute.
- 1:06:15It just be if we can name one player.
- 1:06:17You can name one player drafted into a so think back at your
- 1:06:21Bryce Harper take and I said same team and a guy is who is
- 1:06:24who is active but not really active and think of that team.
- 1:06:32We suck it. I give you these.
- 1:06:34Hints and it's like AI give you these hints thinking that it's
- 1:06:38going to help, but I I'm looking at the name.
- 1:06:41It's way easy to to make a suggestion when you're looking
- 1:06:44at the name. Sure, you know what I mean.
- 1:06:46So there's a couple of these guys it in the in the really top
- 1:06:49ten that either play for your guys's teams or have played for
- 1:06:53your guys's teams. Our teams, Our favorite team.
- 1:06:56Yes, your favorite like you 2. Specifically, we have one of the
- 1:07:04posts for sale not on there. We have one of the postseason
- 1:07:08heroes. I felt great about my Chris
- 1:07:12Bryant. If if Chris sales 2010 again he
- 1:07:16is OK. So you guys are just one year
- 1:07:18off? You're one year off.
- 1:07:20Oh man. Whatever you were doing in 2010,
- 1:07:23just fat. Just put yourself in the next.
- 1:07:27Year. Nah.
- 1:07:28This degrom feels later than that.
- 1:07:31Yeah. Can't name anybody Anthony
- 1:07:39Rendon to. Promise 2010 There's your guy,
- 1:07:43there's your pseudo active guy. Anthony Rendon University 34.2
- 1:07:48WAR Good bonus points on the Rice University.
- 1:07:52See I can I can name colleges. Yeah, that's the, that's the 7th
- 1:07:57best. So there's a there's another guy
- 1:08:00who's currently on the Red Sox, another one who used to be on
- 1:08:03the Red Sox, and one who is that and the other one.
- 1:08:11Trevor Story. The what?
- 1:08:13There you go. There's one Trevor Story 34.9
- 1:08:16he's #6 Nate one me, you and I have in common 1/1/2011 That was
- 1:08:24a dead giveaway. You and I have in common.
- 1:08:28My team drafted it. IKF Gary Cole.
- 1:08:31Gary Cole Gerr Cole 4 on the List, 42.6.
- 1:08:36Yankee legend IKF I. So we traded Gerr Cole, that
- 1:08:40number one on this list was was drafted in the fifth round out
- 1:08:44of high school. Kyle's team traded him away.
- 1:08:49Anthony Rizzo. No, no, there's chaos going
- 1:08:55outside. Like we can hear that right now.
- 1:08:58There's chaos on this trivia question right now.
- 1:09:02Yeah. Just won the World Series.
- 1:09:04This guy who? Just won the World Series.
- 1:09:07Actually, two guys on this list just won the world.
- 1:09:10Series come on, get with the program can't.
- 1:09:14And one of the guys, the 5th overall, just lost it.
- 1:09:18Freddy Freeman. Nope, idiot.
- 1:09:23But the other guy? This is Clayton Kershaw.
- 1:09:27No. Why?
- 1:09:29He's too old. He's too old.
- 1:09:33He's older than that. I wouldn't say are we done here?
- 1:09:36We're looking for. I just want to figure out these
- 1:09:38World Series. Participants and then I'm OK.
- 1:09:41I will say the number two guy is Francisco Lindor.
- 1:09:46That was a little tricky because I wouldn't have guessed he was
- 1:09:48drafted in the. Jose Ramirez.
- 1:09:52No, I think he was an international.
- 1:09:57Player. Oh yeah, duh.
- 1:10:02World Series. Yeah, he was international.
- 1:10:06Kevin Gozman. No, I mean, like way better than
- 1:10:10that. Like we're talking the some.
- 1:10:11We're we're talking top five in war here.
- 1:10:14No, you, I'm talking about you said lost the World Series.
- 1:10:17That's why he went Gozman. Oh, he.
- 1:10:18Said he won the world. Series the guy No he.
- 1:10:20Said the guy who? Lost the World Series was on the
- 1:10:22team who Lost the World Series is number 5.
- 1:10:25George. Springer So we're talking, yes.
- 1:10:26George Springer, there you go. I'm doing better than you.
- 1:10:31So I'll, I'll give you another one.
- 1:10:32Who's in the top? Can we can.
- 1:10:34We can we number crunch the numbers on Chris Bryant?
- 1:10:36I'm pretty sure Chris Bryant is an answer here.
- 1:10:39I looked him up. What?
- 1:10:40What was it was 2013 or something like that?
- 1:10:43I know, just just crunch him. Oh yeah, 27.4.
- 1:10:50So he'd be, he'd be on the list. Actually just above Nimmo, exact
- 1:10:54same. This is actually funny.
- 1:10:55Exact same war as Chris Bryant is number 9 on the list.
- 1:10:59Javi Baez. That's another one that I
- 1:11:01wouldn't think would be easy because I would have just
- 1:11:02thought national out of Puerto Rico, El Moco.
- 1:11:08All right, let's get the Dodgers and then.
- 1:11:10Yeah, we've got we've got 2 Dodgers on this list, both out
- 1:11:19of high school. Max Muncie.
- 1:11:24Nope. I mean, you're missing like the
- 1:11:29guy. Mookie Betts.
- 1:11:31There you go. Yes. 75.2 war already for that.
- 1:11:36Dude put him in the hall now, geez.
- 1:11:39That's 20 better than Lindor, who's number 2 on this list.
- 1:11:43What AG There's a. The other one is Blake Snell.
- 1:11:48Yeah, there's Blake Snow. Wow.
- 1:11:49We didn't even get a chance to guess it.
- 1:11:51Yeah, well, I mean, loser, I don't know how long we were
- 1:11:54going to go. There's a lot of really good
- 1:11:56players in that draft class, though.
- 1:11:58We're this is more this is less about trivia and more of just an
- 1:12:02educational opportunity for night.
- 1:12:03And night like. This, which I'm totally OK with,
- 1:12:06I'm totally OK with. Now we know.
- 1:12:07Definitely, definitely. I will never.
- 1:12:09Forget moving forward that Kris Bryant was not in the draft
- 1:12:12class of 2011. Yeah, yeah, I love that.
- 1:12:17Austin Hedge's 0.1 WAR out of that draft class, that is 145
- 1:12:24players from that draft class with at least 0.1 more.
- 1:12:28Is that, is that a lot do you think?
- 1:12:31That seems like a lot. A lot of major leaguers.
- 1:12:36Well, just like a lot of major leaguers out of one draft class.
- 1:12:39It's more war than me. Because we're, I mean, we're
- 1:12:41even talking like there's several guys on this list who
- 1:12:45have negative WAR too, who've made it to the major leagues.
- 1:12:47But just to say like you're at least average, that's a lot of
- 1:12:53guys. Youth baseball's changed man.
- 1:12:57Trevor Bauer in that draft as well.
- 1:13:01Awkward. Didn't I hear that the the
- 1:13:06awards this year were all college players?
- 1:13:13Like every award this year was a guy who went to college?
- 1:13:16I think I heard that somewhere. I.
- 1:13:23Don't know, I heard today that LeBron James, if he misses four
- 1:13:29more games, is in danger of missing out on player awards
- 1:13:31because the NBA has, I believe, what is it a 65 games played
- 1:13:37minimum for awards? And then I was started thinking,
- 1:13:39does do do we have something for that for baseball?
- 1:13:42I mean, I know you've got, you've got like qualifying
- 1:13:45thresholds and all that, but that's more for like statistical
- 1:13:50categories, counting stats, things like that.
- 1:13:52But do we have something? Do we have a minimum for?
- 1:13:55Yeah, I would think like a batting title you would have a
- 1:13:57minimum because it's because they would have to be qualified
- 1:14:00so. Right.
- 1:14:00But I'm I'm talking like major, like major awards.
- 1:14:06I don't. I don't know that.
- 1:14:07We do. It's just voting right so you
- 1:14:09could vote for who you want. Yeah.
- 1:14:12It's in the BBWAA scenes. Interesting.
- 1:14:15As broken as our system is, it's still better than the other
- 1:14:18sports. Love it so.
- 1:14:21And we'll end with that good, good stuff tonight, gents.
- 1:14:27This was fun, folks. Hope you have a happy
- 1:14:29Thanksgiving. Hope this provides you a little
- 1:14:32bit of entertainment. Honestly, we love all of you
- 1:14:36guys. But I mentioned it earlier off
- 1:14:38the top. This is this episode is
- 1:14:40dedicated to the folks that just need to get away from the, the,
- 1:14:45the chatter at the at the dinner table and just need to take a
- 1:14:49breather, go Outback, cool off a little bit, enjoy a beverage and
- 1:14:54maybe just throw the pot on. Because I, as an introvert
- 1:14:57myself, I get it. Sometimes you just need to step
- 1:14:59away. Put the pot on during
- 1:15:02Thanksgiving. Honestly, yeah, honestly, if
- 1:15:05you're trying to avoid the politics conversation and all
- 1:15:08that, just throw the pot on the Bluetooth speaker.
- 1:15:11We're here for that. And just let it, let it eat, pun
- 1:15:15intended. But gents, hope you have a a
- 1:15:18great Thanksgiving, our listeners.
- 1:15:21Our viewers, your noodles. Yeah.
