- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. This is Alice
- 0:04Cooper, the original Technoe Todd, and you're listening to tech Talk Radio.
- 0:10Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor and I'm justin
- 0:16Welcome. We did kind of a best of last week. We didn't really
- 0:19get a chance to talk after the super Bowl game. But I'm just wondering.
- 0:24I don't want to talk about it. The only thing I want to
- 0:26talk the only thing I want to ask, did you do the door dash
- 0:31contest? Or did you give up after you entered the I didn't even see
- 0:35it. I didn't even see the commercial. I was waiting for it.
- 0:38I must have ran upstairs to get another drink or something. But I did
- 0:41not see the door Dash commercial. I was watching it and I have a
- 0:44DVR, and I watched it and it said, you know, here's the
- 0:49code, and I didn't realize the commercial. He says and there's more,
- 0:54and then all of a sudden it just goes off. I'm not kidding.
- 0:57You had to be over one hundred something words, just words, And the
- 1:00problem is it wasn't what he was saying on the narration. It was the
- 1:06words on the screen, so he had to go back play it, back
- 1:08play it, back play it, and go back. I eventually got him
- 1:11all in because when you entered him in, it would tell you because I
- 1:15first entered what I saw and it said thirteen percent. You know, dumb?
- 1:19Would you like to try again? I'm like what? And then I
- 1:22found out from my kids who were doing it that you had to enter all
- 1:26these words and it was just ridiculous. The only way you could do it
- 1:30is if you had a translation program or you had you know, the ability
- 1:34to pause, pause, pause, and then you had go back, and
- 1:37it was just crazy. Finally, my DVR gave out instead of not giving
- 1:40you anymore, so the kids had to help me. But they did pick
- 1:42a winner. It was a guy in San Antonio that won all of that
- 1:48stuff and all did he win all right? He won fifty thousand dollars towards
- 1:53a down payment for a home, twenty thousand dollars for a dream vacation,
- 1:57BMW I five six, a Kia EV nine to three electric suv, Volkswagen
- 2:04electric vehicle, a twenty twenty four Toyota truck, and a Kawasaki off road
- 2:08vehicle, and tons of coupons to go for restaurants. My question is,
- 2:13first off, who needs that many cars? And second off, he's gonna
- 2:16have to pay taxes and licensing and registration for every single one of those vehicles.
- 2:22I wonder do they give him the cash value if he doesn't want the
- 2:27vehicle? Can they do that on TV? You know you watch TV?
- 2:30Price is right? Yeah, yeah, price is right. They always give
- 2:31you the cash value if you don't want it. I've been well, I
- 2:35have been on Prices right before, not like on the stage, but I
- 2:38was in the audience, right. But but the thing is, so,
- 2:44yeah, my big gripe about Prices right, and I'm getting on of a
- 2:46tangent here, why do they always offer cheap cars? Like it's like,
- 2:51oh, it's a brand new car Toyota Yaris, Like oh great, it's
- 2:55worth twelve thousand dollars like rs yeah, right, Like come on, give
- 3:01me like I just once, I would love I watched I watched Prices right
- 3:06every single day? Still do I still watched every single day? That your
- 3:07face? Would you just say once that's your favorite game show? Oh?
- 3:10Absolutely? Really yeah, yeah absolutely yeah, I would just love it just
- 3:15once. If they could be like and it's a brand new car. It's
- 3:19a Tesla model s right, and I'd be like, oh wow, that's
- 3:23one hundred thousand dollars car. Okay, cool? Yeah, lifetimes to play
- 3:25of Campbell soup, Yeah, Barker. I mean, I don't know what
- 3:30you're expecting out of that show. Now. I really do think Drew Carrey
- 3:36is doing a good job. Yeah he has, he has, but again
- 3:38we're getting on. My favorite game show is a Family Feud with Steve Barb.
- 3:45See. I love he is. Just the answers he gets are absolutely
- 3:49hilarious. So that's your luck is another one I love. That's the No
- 3:53Wammis one. Right, Yeah, I like the Big Money, Big Money
- 3:55Noammis and stop. The original with Peter Tamarkin was was really good, right,
- 4:00I mean I don't remember that. I used to watch that when he
- 4:03come home from school. It was a fun show, you know, the
- 4:05little animation's going and that was always kind of neat. But yeah, that
- 4:10was a good one as well. My mom was on a game show.
- 4:13She was on a game I can't remember the name of it, but it
- 4:15had a pretty big host, you know, like he was very poppeting game.
- 4:20No, No, No, no, but I'm just wondering it would
- 4:27explain a lot. Thanks Justine, no problem. She and you know what
- 4:33she won. She won that clock radio that all of us had growing up
- 4:39in the seventies. You know, I'm talking to Slim a MFM clock radio,
- 4:43and I under the countermount. It all goes into a little cobby behind
- 4:47your bed. So if you had a you had a dresser, you know,
- 4:50you'd put it right there. But that's what I remember she won.
- 4:54I never found out. I've always thought that was kind of cool. Yeah,
- 4:57yeah, digital it was a digital clock. I mean it was pretty
- 5:00big in like seventy one seventy so yeah, that would be like top of
- 5:04the line right there. I remember going with her, Me and my sister,
- 5:08we were there all of this, the whole family was there and she
- 5:10got picked from the audience and that's you know, that's what she ended up
- 5:14winning. Was like la, Yeah, we had to go to Los Angeles.
- 5:17We lived in California at the time, so that worked out pretty good.
- 5:20Do you do you guys want to know like a very quick little synopsis
- 5:24of my time on Prices right how it went? Yeah, Like what was
- 5:27the whole what happened. Well, So I was in the Navy, and
- 5:30I was I happened to be in San Diego for training, and I had
- 5:33a couple extra weeks of leave, so I decided to drive up to Los
- 5:35Angeles. I got free tickets. You know, everything's you know, the
- 5:39tickets are free. Yeah, And I stayed across the street from CBS Television
- 5:43City and it was a little motel called the Farmer's Daughter Motel. And it
- 5:47was actually famous because a lot of the people that were in prices right would
- 5:50go to this motel because it's right across the street, and they actually had
- 5:54a at night, they would have a guy who would sit down with you
- 5:58as a big group and let you know what to expect, right. And
- 6:01so we all woke up at like three thirty three forty five in the morning,
- 6:05we all walked across the street. We lined up outside of the gates
- 6:10of CBS Television City and there was a little convenience store across the street.
- 6:14I remember this guy was renting folding chairs for ten dollars a pop. This
- 6:18guy was making a killing wow doing this because and at three forty in the
- 6:23morning, because you don't want to stand we had to stand in line until
- 6:26seven thirty in the morning, so like basically three and a half four hours
- 6:30we were standing there in line and they would open up just to get in,
- 6:33and it would come out and it would start handing out numbers bam bam,
- 6:36bam, bam, bam bam, all the way down the line,
- 6:39and then they would get to the point where you were the last one and
- 6:42be like, ollkay, that's it, no more everybody else, thank you,
- 6:45have a nice day, bye oh man. And I got like I
- 6:46would think I was like one of the last five or whatever. So they
- 6:50let us in. They let us into the stage lot, and they were
- 6:54like, hey, guys, okay, at this point, you guys are
- 6:57going to be on the show, but we need you to go back.
- 6:59Go ahead and go back to your hotels, get dressed in the outfit that
- 7:01you want to wear. Come back at ten am. So we all left,
- 7:04got breakfast, you know, dressed up. I dressed in my navy
- 7:08whites because I was a Navy guy and I wanted to get on the show.
- 7:12And I know Bob Barker was a Navy guy, right, So I
- 7:14dressed up. What they did is then they lined you up and they got
- 7:16you in like groups of like ten, and they would line you up against
- 7:19the wall and Okay, when I say this, it sounds like it sounds
- 7:24really uh macab I guess you could say the word is cattle, but it
- 7:28almost like it was. It was like it was like a firing squad line.
- 7:30Like you would line up against a wall and there'd be a producer that
- 7:34would come out with like two pages and he would be like and within like
- 7:39two seconds he'd be like, he'd come up to you and shake your hand.
- 7:42Hey, what's your name? Oh, I'm Justin. Oh where are
- 7:44you from? Justin? Oh I'm a Tucson, Arizona. Hey what do
- 7:46you do? Oh you're in the navy. Cool? All right, do
- 7:48you do? Like what kind of stuff do you do in the navy?
- 7:51Oh I'm in it. Oh oh cool? Are you doing like all that
- 7:54satellite imagery stuff? Yeah? Okay, cool, thank you, And then
- 7:57you'd go to the next person. Within that five ten seconds, he would
- 8:01decide if you were the one to be called up on stage, and he
- 8:05would he would he would he would do a little signal behind his back to
- 8:09the page, and the page would then write down your name and number,
- 8:13and they did that to me, and the guy next to me was like,
- 8:16this is our fifth time here, and we know what the thing is.
- 8:20You just got picked to go up on stage. And I'm like,
- 8:22what, seriously, what really? And he's like, yeah, yeah,
- 8:24you're gonna be good, man, you're good. So then they march you
- 8:26into the studio. The studio is ice cold, right because they have to
- 8:30turn on the lights. They turn on the lights. They film it in
- 8:33real time so that during the commercial breaks. The commercial breaks are literally the
- 8:37length of your break in between the recording. They don't stop the recording.
- 8:43So then they tell you, everybody start cheering. Bob Barker's about to come
- 8:46out. Start cheering. Everybody cheers Bob Barker comes out. They can't hear
- 8:50anything. So the first five people that they call up on stage, they
- 8:54have a page on the side of the of the stage with their name on
- 8:58it because you can't hear anything because there's so many people yelling and screaming.
- 9:01So the guy's like, and Andy Taylor, come on down. You're not
- 9:05gonna hear that. You're gonna see a sign with this, says Andy Taylor,
- 9:09Oh my god. Camera. And so then you come up and you're
- 9:13like yeah, okay, and you come up on stage anyway. So I
- 9:16was in this audience and I did not get called up the first round.
- 9:18They go through the whole game, second round, didn't get called up,
- 9:22the third round, didn't get called up, fourth round. During the break,
- 9:26Bob starts to ask questions on the audience and he sees me and he's
- 9:30like, hey you, and I'm like, oh, hey, what's up,
- 9:31Bob. And he's like, you're in the Navy. I was in
- 9:33the Navy too, and I'm like, I know, that's why I came
- 9:35here. And he's like, get this guy on stage? What oh?
- 9:41And I was like, wait, should I should I get up on my
- 9:43seat or whatever? And the producer was like no, no, no,
- 9:46no, sit down, sit down, sit down. And I thought,
- 9:48okay, maybe I'll get called up this next one. Nope, didn't get
- 9:50called up anyway. At the end of the show, I went back to
- 9:54the hotel, spent the night. I had tickets for the next day and
- 9:58I was like, you know what, I'm gonna do this again because I
- 10:01think I'm gonna get called up again. But at that point, this was
- 10:03in July. I was in my navy whites in the middle of summer of
- 10:09Los Angeles. I was dirty and and and all the benches and the railings
- 10:13were painted red. So when I would lean up against it, my now,
- 10:18my my navy whites were stained kind of pink. Oh my god.
- 10:20And so my uniform was dirty. And I woke up the next morning at
- 10:26three thirty in the morning, I looked out the window. I saw the
- 10:28line. I said, you know what, forget it. I'm just I'm
- 10:31gonna go back to Tucson. And I drove from LA to Tucson the next
- 10:35day. How can I did that have been though? I mean, oh
- 10:37my god, it would have been crazy. It would have been great.
- 10:39Yeah. I probably would have getten called up the next day. That would
- 10:43have been so cool. You know, it's funny if you think about great
- 10:48moments in game show history. Uh, if you go back, we mentioned
- 10:52family Feud, Family Food with Steve Harvey. I will never forget the time
- 10:56watching the show The Blevins Family is on there, Oh yeah, Ninja and
- 11:01Tyler Blevins. Yeah, And Tyler tells as Steve Harvey says, oh what
- 11:05do you do? And Tyler says, I play video games? And the
- 11:11look on Steve Harvey's face, like, well that's stupid. It was like
- 11:16he didn't understand it. Yeah, he probably makes Tyler makes more money than
- 11:18Steve does. Oh I'm pretty sure he did at this time. But it
- 11:22was like it was hilarious to see his reaction and knowing now just how well
- 11:28Tyler did in get I mean he was up and coming at this point,
- 11:31but how well he ended up doing well. I mean at one point,
- 11:35Tyler or aka Ninja, was making five hundred thousand dollars a month a month.
- 11:41Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. It was considered one of
- 11:45the top personalities, and that was the thing because he had personality. He
- 11:48was good in the games. But you know what, honestly, he didn't
- 11:52really have the personality. Because I've watched this so much. He never really
- 11:58talked about He never talked to his chat. You know, the chat is
- 12:01what makes you as a streamer, Like if you interact with your viewers,
- 12:03yea, they feel special, they feel that you're there to talk to them.
- 12:09He would never talk to his chat. He would just be talking to
- 12:11his guys that he's playing the game with. Every once in a while he'd
- 12:15look over and talk the other guy that does it really really well is Doctor
- 12:20Disrespect. I mean Doctor Disrespect. You know, he was huge and then
- 12:24he took a break from streaming for a while, and then he came back
- 12:26and now he's on YouTube. Well, no, he got banned from Twitch.
- 12:30That was a huge thing, right, and then he came back it
- 12:31was on YouTube. This guy does it right. I mean, yes,
- 12:35he plays his games. He's he plays a character. He doesn't play himself.
- 12:39He plays the character of doctor Disrespect, and so the way he does
- 12:45it is perfect. And he interacts with his chat. He looks at the
- 12:48chat and I've I've watched Doctor Disrespect stream and the chat is just going by
- 12:52so fast, Like I don't even know how he can look at it and
- 12:56see any particular message. I wonder if he has handlers basically that we'll see
- 13:01a text and point push it to him, you know, or something.
- 13:05Yeah, he's got a staff. He's got a staff behind him. I
- 13:07mean his wife helps him out. The funniest part is when he's actually playing
- 13:11a game and he's like in the middle of a game and you see like
- 13:15this hand come in on the on the on the screen with a sandwich and
- 13:18it's his wife. She's like literally hand feeding him while he's playing the game.
- 13:24He's just like he's like, Oh, I'm not I'm gonna get you.
- 13:26I'm gonna I'm gonna get you. You know, I'll tell you who
- 13:31else is good. And we've had him on the show. I mean,
- 13:35ry a stream because he's funny. I mean, I'm gonna watch somebody I
- 13:41want. I want to watch somebody who's gonna be funny and interact. But
- 13:43you know, you make a good point justin. I think a lot of
- 13:46people in they're watching a streamer play guy somebody dire girl. But women are
- 13:50grated in as well playing a video game. They want to be acknowledged.
- 13:56They they like that. You know, Oh, here's this person. But
- 14:00his heart gets back to slick knows when I'm talking about to radio. Yeah,
- 14:03I mean the old days of power, when you were at power of
- 14:07fourteen ninety. That was the days where you could put people on the phone
- 14:11and put them on the air, or even if not that mention their names.
- 14:15People want to hear their Oh that was the biggest thing. Yeah,
- 14:18you know I liked it too. I mean you remember, justin we worked
- 14:22together at stations. People loved it. You know, they would call in
- 14:26and it's always fun to say, and it's fun for the jock. It's
- 14:28fun to say, oh, you know, thanks to you know, Laura
- 14:31who's listening to us while she's working her or a Bob who's listening while he's
- 14:35mowing the lawn. I don't know. I don't know if this guy is
- 14:39still around with us today. But I remember back when I was on Fat
- 14:43Night, right, I would I would. There was this guy that would
- 14:48call in almost every night and he'd say, I need to hear queen fat
- 14:52bottom girls because I've got some fat bottom girls over here. And he would
- 14:56always say that. And I can't remember his name. But if you are
- 15:01still out there and you happen to be listening to this show, I still
- 15:05remember you. Yeah, oh yeah, you do remember. You end up
- 15:09remembering some of the listeners that are out there. I mean my time here
- 15:13KGVY, when I was doing mornings and now I'm on afternoons. I there
- 15:18are people I just love hearing their voice and I know their names, and
- 15:20we've lost some over the years, some of those. And you you think
- 15:24about that, there's a guy who used to actually call Gosh, I don't
- 15:28think he ever called here, but he used to call some of the other
- 15:31stations and I would hear him, and I can't remember. I'm trying to
- 15:37remember his name. I went to his funeral last year. When I heard
- 15:39that he had passed away, I thought, oh, you're kidding me.
- 15:41He called it went by the name of Andrew, and you know, again
- 15:46he was. He was just so over the top and just a great person
- 15:50on the radio when you would hear him. But that's just the way it
- 15:54is, you know, podcasters, I don't know if podcasters do that.
- 15:56Do you hear people? Do people call in? Like on podcast shows like
- 16:00First First Off? Podcast shows are usually recorded, pre recorded, so they
- 16:03don't really do a lot of live podcast shows. Some of them could go
- 16:07live. I mean, we're in the works, we're working on that,
- 16:11you know. I mean that works that kind of cool. So I just
- 16:15kind of wonder. But yeah, well, there was a time we were
- 16:18set up and able to do that. There was a time, yeah,
- 16:21we were doing it live. We were doing this show live, taking the
- 16:23phone calls, the whole bit. Now we take phone calls, but you
- 16:27call our telephone number five two zero seven seven seven ninety five eighty you leave
- 16:33a message and then we might even call you back, and all of us
- 16:34will talk to you, but we'll talk to you at you know, another
- 16:37time. But to bring it back to full circle, I mean we're talking
- 16:41about, you know, video game streamers and and how people interact with them
- 16:45and they want to hear their name, they want to have their comment read.
- 16:48And I am the same way. Especially I don't watch any other streamer.
- 16:52I watched RYA's stream, and Ryan knows me because even though on on
- 16:56YouTube I go by Donnie Narco, he knows when he sees my comment,
- 17:00he'll be like, hey, Justin, you know, Justin says so and
- 17:03so because he knows me, he knows who I am. But I love
- 17:07it when he reads my comment, you know, and it makes me feel
- 17:10special. It's the same thing going back to the days of radio, like
- 17:14you just mentioned, where people would call in they were hoping they would get
- 17:17on the radio. I remember when I was a little kid, I called
- 17:21I think it was called Hit one hundred. It was in Rapid City,
- 17:23South Dakota. It was like the top forty station back then. And I
- 17:27called and I hear it ring and ring and ring, and all of a
- 17:33sudden, the DJ picks up and he's like hit one hundred FM, and
- 17:36I'm like, I love him one hundred love it, I love it,
- 17:38I love it bye. And I hung my phone because I didn't know what
- 17:42to say. I didn't know if he was recording it. I just was
- 17:45like, I love hit one hundred FFM, thank you for it, bye,
- 17:47and I hung up the phone and I was hoping that he record it,
- 17:49and he was like, uh. He went on the air a little
- 17:52bit later and he was like, Yeah, that kid that just called me
- 17:56said you love Hit one hundred. I definitely appreciate you listening. Thanks,
- 18:00And that was it. That's all he said. And I was like he
- 18:03talked about me, Oh my god, you know, like it was I
- 18:07felt like a celebrity. Yeah. Well it was funny because when I worked
- 18:11for Westwood One, which was just up until last year, and I would
- 18:15do shows across the country. One of the stations that I really loved and
- 18:18they're still out there, wamp FM, the great sounding station. The guy
- 18:22that runs the name as Johnny Oh, And he'd be on in the mornings
- 18:26and I'd be driving into work be remember the time difference two three hours,
- 18:29right I'd be driving into work to do the morning show here at KGVUI,
- 18:33and occasionally he would throw a shout out to me, you know, oh,
- 18:37because he knew you were listening and I was doing the app he knew,
- 18:41you know, I was out here and I was doing their afternoon show
- 18:44you know, from here, and he would do a shout out, and
- 18:47I've got all giddy like, you know, because it was so much fun.
- 18:51Yeah, it's what was that? Womp? Yeah? Wamp FM.
- 18:57So great story about that station and how it's it was. It was a
- 19:03station that was originally there. They went away, they had another station in
- 19:06place, and I used to be on that station, and then they changed
- 19:10and went back to this WANMP to kind of relive the heyday, be like
- 19:14Power fourteen ninety coming back to live the heyday of that, and it's been
- 19:19very successful. I've got a question for you guys. You guys are both
- 19:23radio veterans, right, let me ask you this. Do you know what
- 19:29is the most valuable asset a radio station has? It's listeners? Nope,
- 19:34No, I'm talking about in monetary value. Is listeners could be a monetary
- 19:41value? But no, what do you what do you say slick. Are
- 19:45you talking about the land the antennas on MMM close license? Oh? Yeah,
- 19:51yeah. The license for the broadcasting is the most valuable asset. Without
- 19:55that, you're nothing. If you don't have that license to broadcast on that
- 19:59particular for you can see, you are nothing. That's true. That's true.
- 20:03And there have been stations that have lost that license. Oh they didn't
- 20:07handle it correctly. So and that that does. That does people said,
- 20:11some people said some poopoo words on there one of those stations country k I
- 20:17K is that what happened next to the last jock on that station? Waitsck?
- 20:21I knew you were over there. Jessica Han was over there, wasn't
- 20:22she? No, she was with me at one ninety five in Phoenix.
- 20:26In Phoenix. Sorry, so you're on this station. Somebody said something they
- 20:29shouldn't have said. No, what happened was I was, I was on
- 20:32my way out here. I had just got back from West Germany. I
- 20:34was. I was in high school with my family in West Germany. Uh.
- 20:37We had transferred to Illinois. I met someone there. We came out
- 20:41here. My first station. I applied to stations, but the first station
- 20:44to call me was KICKS country k I k X five eighty right, I
- 20:47didn't know the history. Yeah, they called me it was a country station.
- 20:51I mean we were both like, they really put me on it.
- 20:52You're not a country guy. Well, here's the thing. My My first
- 20:56station back in the States was wrt L M and FM and ran to Illinois
- 21:00just outside of Sneud Air Force Base, which was m O R. Middle
- 21:03of the Road, and played a lot of country music. Now with all
- 21:08that hair, how could you wear a cowboy hat? Yeah? Right,
- 21:12you know what I need to send your picture of the one that I have.
- 21:15It's it's called an open crown, all right, and get all my
- 21:18hair in my head in it now? Think Billy Jack got it? Got
- 21:22it all right. So when the first station I was on was an easy
- 21:25listening station. I was playing Montevani and and Tysher yep, Oh my god.
- 21:33So what happened with this the southern station that was here. So I
- 21:37came out to kicks Country and so I'm doing overnights and uh, this was
- 21:41from the time I started to the time it ended. It was a couple
- 21:44of years. So about a year through I find out that a year before
- 21:49I got there, a morning guy decided to go and vaca. You know,
- 21:52he's going with on vacation. Everybody was going to vacation. But the
- 21:55guy that is sitting in for him says he's been kidnapped. That was here,
- 22:00that was here, that was here. I remember that, Oh,
- 22:04kidnapp wasn't Wasn't Kimmel involved in that somehow? Yeah. I used to go
- 22:11up against Chris in Pump Springs. We did, we did very well.
- 22:15But he's doing very well. Now, what do you mean Chris? Chris
- 22:21his real name is Chris Kimmel. Yeah, seriously, Yeah, yeah,
- 22:25at least that's the name he went by in the radio out there. But
- 22:27so maybe that could could be, could be. All right, So so
- 22:32a different, different kidnapping story. But I know Chris was out here when
- 22:34he was working, and that's that's what that happened. So what so what
- 22:37happened this kidnapping thing? So apparently the authorities called the radio station, you
- 22:42know, because you told her about the kidnapping, they call the radio station.
- 22:45What the the on air personalities did not do was say it's a bit.
- 22:52They did not admit to it being a bit. So at some point
- 22:55they realized it's found out that the guy's coming back to vacation. He's on
- 22:59the I don't know how the license was challenged or you know, I'm sure
- 23:03people follow complaints with the FCC, and uh so the FCC uh said we're
- 23:07going to pull your license. It went for another year of just lawyers and
- 23:11court cases and stuff could have been even maybe even long because of a bed,
- 23:15Yeah, because of because of a horrible pad pit. You know,
- 23:19they thought it was Yeah, he's kidnapped. Yeah, we got to take
- 23:25a quick break. We come back. We actually have a listener question.
- 23:27We'll talk more about tech because there is a lot of big stuff that's been
- 23:30going on. More of that on the way. I'm Andy Taylor and Slick
- 23:36and I'm Justin And I forgot this is tech talk Radio, not Reminiscent radio.
- 23:41But I love it. I hope you did too. And now back
- 23:44to tech talk radio. So we've got a listener question. Yay love listener
- 23:48questions. Thank you for sending it. Here's how you get him in,
- 23:52uh, tech guys at tech talk radio dot com. Right, best way
- 23:55to to send that in? What about the phone number? Phone number five
- 23:57two zero seven seven seven ninety five by I just want to remember what it
- 24:03was, or you can send us Facebook, can send ustone on Facebook,
- 24:06Facebook dot com, Forward slash tech talkers. So what is the question you
- 24:10have? Okay, it says their tech talk radio. This is from from
- 24:15dianan Ora Valley by the way, Okay, all right, yeah, I'm
- 24:18a digital doesn't even say dearie, I just do that. I'm a digital
- 24:22hoarder, and I want to start we eating down the data and duplicates what
- 24:26I have, especially here. I know where we're going with this one,
- 24:30especially photos spread out on my original PC and three different backup drums. Oh,
- 24:37it's so frustrating, but I want to delete the duplicates and save time.
- 24:41Okay. There we have discussed over the many many years we've been together,
- 24:45so many different options. Where do you want to begin at the simplest
- 24:51and maybe even the most current. I think the scariest thing is when you're
- 24:55doing something like this. You've got so you got all these photos spread out
- 24:57on you know what he said, three different You've got your main photos,
- 25:03you've got and then you're afraid you're going to delete something that maybe you do
- 25:07want to have because you're trying you're trying to delete, and sometimes stuff gets
- 25:11named differently. It can be it can be a real chore. How what's
- 25:15the best way to manage something like this? I don't use software as much
- 25:19as software software that manages images and photos as much as you do. So
- 25:25that's why I was looking for you to lead into this discussion, because I
- 25:29personally, you know, because you have to take into consideration the name of
- 25:33the file as well as what the file really is, and then the meta
- 25:38meta information within the file. And I didn't know if you had come across
- 25:42something andy in particular that you well prefer or would initially recommend, because I
- 25:48do it all manual, I really do. How do you do it though?
- 25:52When it's on three different drives? Do you put them on one drive?
- 25:55Do you move all of that? Well, all images one drive?
- 25:59Okay, Well, well I have a I have a different method of doing
- 26:03this. If you've got three different drives or four different drives, you're gonna
- 26:07need to connect them all up at the same time. So you're gonna need
- 26:11some sort of a dongle like us B to SETA or us B to you
- 26:15know, ide whatever your drives are, but you really want them to be
- 26:19connected at the same time, and then you're gonna want to use a software
- 26:22to the search all of those drives at the same time to find those duplicates.
- 26:29Now there's a couple different softwares out there. I don't know how uh
- 26:33technically inclined this Dean from Oral Valley is, but there is one called doup
- 26:38gurudup Guru. It's aupe g u r u. It's open source, but
- 26:45it's on GitHub, so it's kind of like one of those things where you
- 26:48kind of have to like read about it and figure out how to install it.
- 26:51Doup Guru is free, it's open source, clock cross platform, and
- 26:56it can also do folders as well. But if you're looking to just make
- 26:59it easy, make it like you know, paid software, Power Automated Desktop
- 27:06is a good one. And also beyond Compare is another really good beyond Compare
- 27:10and I remember that one one of the ones I have used for something similar,
- 27:15and I did it with audio files because I had audio files that were
- 27:19spread out is roxio Creator NXT nine pro and it has a tool in there,
- 27:26and it actually has quite a lot of tools bulk renaming. It has
- 27:30the ability so if you've got files, say you find all the pictures from
- 27:34Slicks Barbecue, right, and you you know, at the lake, and
- 27:38you want to call them Slicks Barbecue, right, So you could go ahead
- 27:42and do a bulk renaming of all those photos, so that way you have
- 27:47them, and it will bulk rename, it will bulk delete, it will
- 27:52do duplicates. So you say, you know, take this folder and look
- 27:56for duplicates throughout this drive or folders, and it will pull up all of
- 28:02those and then you can decide which ones you keep, which ones you delete.
- 28:06But again you'll be careful about that. But here's the problem. What
- 28:10a lot of these you know, digital uh cameras nowaday, even if it's
- 28:14your phone or even a just a regular digital camera, they all have the
- 28:18same naming convention IMG or yeah, well not not even just the the extension,
- 28:23but just well yeah, yeah, you're right, yeah, like IMG
- 28:26underscore, you know, one, two, three, four, five,
- 28:29sixty seven, whatever it is. So you might erroneously find some images that
- 28:36have the same name, but they're not the same. And that's the downfall
- 28:41of the one I mentioned first, that free one the doup guru is because
- 28:45it's CLI based and so you're not gonna be able to see. Uh,
- 28:48you know, you're not gonna be able to see thumbnails of the image.
- 28:52So if you want to make it real easy, if you don't mind paying
- 28:55a little bit, I would say something like those other ones that I mentioned
- 28:57a little bit ago are probably going to be your best bet. You might
- 29:02have to pay for them, but you're probably gonna be able to see thumbnails
- 29:04of the images, just to make sure that it's the same image or not
- 29:08one of them. By the way, everybody justin when he says celia means
- 29:11command line interface here keep board, okay, Just so you know. One
- 29:15of the things that I've have have heard over the years too is something like
- 29:21this, where you have a two hundred and fifty gigabyte drive, a one
- 29:25terrorbyte drive, a two terabyte drive is now we have capacities going up to
- 29:29twenty two terabytes, right, So say you go ahead and you buy yourself
- 29:33a ten terabyte or twelve terabyte drive. It's not gonna be overly expensive.
- 29:38I mean, so you get that and then you move the what you want
- 29:42to that drive. So everything from these drives onto there that will help you
- 29:48in management of these. Like you said justin, some of them are named
- 29:52the same and they may be different files, so you've got to be careful
- 29:55to keep them in the same structure and then go through and look for duplicates,
- 29:59look for or and it's not not all always does it look depending on
- 30:03the program, does it look for names. It may look for me to
- 30:06to you know, the meta data, where it's going to look for the
- 30:08data was taken, the image itself, the size of the image, what
- 30:14to the meda day data is also going to be very important. So again
- 30:17that's that's another theory. But one thing I want to say is for for
- 30:21Dean, you want to you want to, you know, bring your collection
- 30:25of digital images, digital files down, but remember always have a backup,
- 30:32you know, make a backup of the backup and in a backup of a
- 30:36backup of backup. Just a joking. No, he's not, he's not.
- 30:41You know some people are they're taking digital copies of putting them on you
- 30:45know, on the cloud, and they can do that right, but again,
- 30:48you can do a you have a backup. You're like, oh,
- 30:52here's all my photos. Be happy you've got them. Make a backup of
- 30:55that, just to be safe, you know. It's just the best thing
- 30:57in the world. And don't. That's certainly keep your back up with you,
- 31:02I mean, no site, keep it off site, you have you
- 31:04have safe at work that you can put it in. Be careful how you
- 31:08move drives. If it's not an SSD, you know you don't want to
- 31:11drop them. I've made that mistake before. I keep a backup of some
- 31:15very sensitive documents and also my crypto. I keep that in a bank vault,
- 31:23a safety deposit box, Like I literally have a safety deposit box that
- 31:29uh that we we uh my wife and I have to access together to get
- 31:34into it. Wow, that makes sense. But you know there was This
- 31:37is a good question because somebody asked me this the other day and I,
- 31:41you know, I should have said, hey, I want to use this
- 31:42as a question on our show when it comes to crypto. If somebody has
- 31:47a digital wallet that they've stored on a drive right they die, they've they've
- 31:52died, but that digital wallet is on that drive, how can they access
- 31:59that with that that they know that crypto's on there, How can they access
- 32:04that to be able to transfer those funds or have access to those funds.
- 32:07There's only two ways. You're gonna need to know the master password of the
- 32:12crypto wallet. So if like for instance, if they're using something like ledger
- 32:17Live or whatever, you're gonna need to know the master password. And if
- 32:22you don't know that master password, the only other way to access that crypto
- 32:27is to get the key, the seed key, right, and that seed
- 32:30key is something like twenty six words, and they're all random words, not
- 32:37just random letters, but actual words that if you type those into a new
- 32:42wallet and you've typed in those exact words in order, that'll unlock that wallet
- 32:50for you and open. But if that, yeah, but if that person's
- 32:52died and they have not left some sort of a ledger. And I say
- 32:59that because I'm talking about the software, but I'm talking about a ledger as
- 33:01a piece of paper that has their master password or their seed keys written down,
- 33:07the crypto's gone. That's there's no way to get it. That's important
- 33:09to think about if you are holding that or any kind of documents to happen.
- 33:14I have it, I'm I have it, my will right have a
- 33:16way that somebody, you know, if you're leaving this behind, is going
- 33:20to be able to access that. Otherwise that that investment you've worked so hard
- 33:23for to pass down is not going to be passed down. Will. That's
- 33:29a great So it actually not my will. I'm sorry, Will. So
- 33:31here's the thing. That's another thing. We think it's a good idea,
- 33:34you should do it. No it is, yeah, but will will is
- 33:37not what you're talking about. Everybody says, oh, I need a will
- 33:39that's going to tell everything about me. No, no, no, it's
- 33:42not. It's an estate plan. That is the document like a trust plan.
- 33:46Yeah. Yeah, the will doesn't really do anything for you after your
- 33:51diet, it's not. Okay. The estate plan is what you need.
- 33:53And I have an estate plan with my wife, and we have that also
- 33:58stored in our bank fault. So if I were to pass on, Mysa
- 34:01would be able to access the vault only with my death certificate, and then
- 34:06she'd be able to access that. But that that vault and a bank contains
- 34:12my seed keys for my wallet, my crypto wallet. It contains our estate
- 34:16plan. It contains all the instructions for if both of us were to die,
- 34:21what happens to Eric, where he should go. It also has a
- 34:24document for Eric when he becomes of age that he can read by me that
- 34:29says, hey, sorry, can't be here, but here's what I want
- 34:32you to do with this money, and blah blah blah. But all of
- 34:36that is stored in a bank vault. You know, I'm wondering if you
- 34:38know, with our technology the way we are now, are people recording videos
- 34:44and saving them somewhere like h And also, should we not have should people
- 34:49have a plan for their digital life? We? You know, it says
- 34:52as maybe more, but as it sounds, you know, our digital life
- 34:58when we you know, we pass who has control of that? That can
- 35:01all be done? I know Facebook makes it possible for you to have somebody
- 35:05that can then control your page as a memorial page, the whole bit.
- 35:08But if you don't keep up on that, what happens to that? That's
- 35:13a good question because I was thinking about setting up my Google Verse. So
- 35:16it's going to be like a data dub on one of my sons. He's
- 35:20going to get that email here and it's going to click on the link and
- 35:22you have access to all of this stuff and he's gonna look at it.
- 35:24He's like, I'm not going through all of his Yeah, well, I
- 35:29mean, yeah, it's a good question really honestly. So this goes back
- 35:35to when I an old show that we talked about where we have we talked
- 35:37about password managers. Yeah. So, so one of the things that I
- 35:40have, one of the things I have in my bank vault is my master
- 35:45password for my password manager. And if somebody were to get that, like
- 35:50my son or my wife, if I were to pass on without her,
- 35:53they'll be able to access everything everything that I store in my password. And
- 35:59they might even not they might not even know what to access. But if
- 36:02they look through all the passwords that I have saved, they're gonna be like,
- 36:06oh, okay, he had an account here, Oh he had a
- 36:09Oh I should probably log into Discord with this and let his Discord friends know
- 36:14that he passed on or whatever. I mean. All of that is in
- 36:17the master password. And again, if you don't have a password manager,
- 36:22it's very secure. It's so much better than just writing down your password and
- 36:28putting it underneath your keyboard, thinking that nobody's gonna look there, because guess
- 36:30what they're gonna look for someone, it's the first place I'm gonna look.
- 36:35Absolutely, yeah, And that's that's the problem I think we with our digital
- 36:38lives, We've not thought about what happens and that next step, you know.
- 36:45And again, I know there's a lot of people listening that that have
- 36:47made those plans, but it is something to plan for, as much as
- 36:51we maybe don't want to do it, it is something to think about.
- 36:53Oh I hate it. I hated having to do this. I hated having
- 36:57to plan for this. Like we would sit down and talk about and my
- 37:00wife, like we would we would like get like one hour into it and
- 37:02then we'd walk away and just like, I'm just too depressed to deal with
- 37:07this right now, Like it is not a fun topic to talk about,
- 37:09but it is inevitable, so you're gonna have to deal with it. Yeah,
- 37:14And Andy's aware of this because I'm dealing with this right now. I
- 37:17have a neighbor who I've known for for months that you know, her health
- 37:25wasn't getting any better, and all of a sudden she had to go to
- 37:29the hospital and now she's in the hospice and I have the key to her
- 37:32apartment and I'm trying to help her, you know, wrap up things,
- 37:37if you will. So I've actually been working on a computer, salvaging everything
- 37:43off of it, resetting it so that can go to where she wants to
- 37:45go as well. As her televisions, which she's really now that's interesting.
- 37:52Televisions do have a certain amount of data depending on the year that that television
- 37:58was made and whatnot that it may have in that too. What what do
- 38:01you mean? I don't understand exactly what you mean by that, Like a
- 38:05smart TV may have Yeah, yeah, but what do you what are you
- 38:07doing with her TVs? What do you mean? What do you I do
- 38:10hard resets? Okay? So, like, are you trying not to like
- 38:15show that she's been watching a particular show or something. No, just not
- 38:19leave any traces of her information on those devices. You know. I've got
- 38:22grabbed her tablets. There may be some more coming my way, like phones
- 38:27and things like that. She's she's she and I still communicate. She She's
- 38:30still doing well, but not well enough. She cannot live on her own
- 38:35anymore at Allay, that's over. Woweah, wow, some things to think
- 38:39about. All right, you gotta take another quick break. We come back.
- 38:42Some fun stuff to talk about, please, Yeah, and we talk
- 38:45about TVs because one of the big manufacturers of televisions being bought by somebody.
- 38:52Will tell you about that. Coming up with tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy
- 38:53Taylor. I am slick and I'm justin le Me and you can tweet us
- 38:59on x at Tech Talk Radio. Will be right back now back to Chief
- 39:02Talk Radio. So before the break, we were talking about that Walmart.
- 39:08Yeah, Agreen to buy something big they're doing. They're making another move.
- 39:12Yeah, they're agreeing to buy smart TV maker Visio. Wow, that's pretty
- 39:19big too, that's a huge one for two point three billion dollars. But
- 39:23this is actually sending sending shockwaves through the industry because Roku, who also makes
- 39:30I mean they they've they're very well known for making OTT devices, over the
- 39:34top devices that are like the fire TV stick, right, so they have
- 39:37the Roku stick and the Roku players, but they also have their own line
- 39:40of TVs Roku and Walmart was one of their biggest distributors of Roku TVs.
- 39:47Now, if if Walmart's buying Visio, that means Walmart's gonna be pushing Visio
- 39:53or pushing or pushing Roku out the door and pushing video as their their primary
- 40:01product. And what about what about the other brand that they do? Was
- 40:05it you called it O n N? I think yeah, on O n
- 40:07N is another brand you see a Walmart quite a bit. So what's gonna
- 40:10happen to them? Here's what good thing's gonna happen. I think the Visio
- 40:14name could potentially go away if I want Walmart and I've already got O N
- 40:19N, just call it first, call them. Why you don't you think
- 40:24video is a better name? Oh my god? Okay, first off,
- 40:28I've never heard of O N N. Okay, I've heard of Visio.
- 40:30So I would think you would keep the Visio name and get rid of the
- 40:34other one. Yeah, that's possible. Well, the problem here's the problem.
- 40:37I see the O N N brand extends beyond televisions with Walmart. Yeah,
- 40:42so, I mean there's a lot of stuff on on it. Think
- 40:44about this to it on tablet. If you if you go into a Walmart
- 40:49and you look at the Roku section, you're gonna see, Yes, you're
- 40:52gonna see the the their their Rocu stick, their voice remote, their speakers,
- 40:57but you will also see the products they've co branded with Wise and so
- 41:01under the Roku name. So does that mean would Roku just say, Hey,
- 41:05you're not gonna carry our TVs? Then we're just gonna We're gonna likely
- 41:09I think Roku would say that. I think Walmart, if any if you
- 41:12know anybody's Walmart would kick him out. But I don't think Roku would say
- 41:15that. I don't know, yeah, might maybe a death sentence. You
- 41:21like this brand, though, Visio, don't you justin? I mean,
- 41:22I mean I've used I've used him before, right, Definitely. I ran
- 41:27it this problem recently with misreporting the frame rates on their televisions. If you
- 41:31remember that we talked about a few weeks ago. Well, I I had,
- 41:37I had a Visio television. It was one of my big first,
- 41:39you know, big purchases once we got our own place, and it was
- 41:43a Visio. I think it was a sixty five inch or a sixty inch.
- 41:47I don't know one of the two sixty or sixty five. But the
- 41:51thing was is they they touted and this is part of leading to your comment
- 41:54there, Andy, was they touted it had a four hundred and eighty hertz
- 41:59refraind rate. Everything would look amazing with this whole hundred and eighty heirs refresh
- 42:04rate, but yet it was still just ten adp and and granted it looked
- 42:08pretty good, but like you were saying, that they were misreporting their their
- 42:14their refresh rates. Refresh rates don't mean jack Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 42:20when it gets to a certain point, I mean thirty thirty thirty hirts per
- 42:22second versus sixty versus one hundred and twenty. Okay, yes, there's a
- 42:25big difference, but after one hundred and twenty, there's you're really not gonna
- 42:30be able to tell a difference. I mean, if you're like me and
- 42:32I watch a lot of Hallmark movies, there's not a lot of action you
- 42:37do. There's hope you're gonna say that because I was gonna interject, there's
- 42:42not a lot of action that happened to these Hallmark movies other than you know,
- 42:45somebody getting slapped in the face or something that's about it, or or
- 42:52the car driving away leaving the person on the side of the road waving.
- 42:54Yes, that happens too, But I mean when you're looking at action in
- 42:59you know, you you watch it an action movie or sports or sports even
- 43:02you want to have you want to have that good refresh rate. Yeah.
- 43:07Sports, sports is like the biggest thing, like especially with NFL, right,
- 43:10you want the best refresh rate you can possibly get. But at a
- 43:15certain point it becomes you can't even tell the difference, Like I said,
- 43:19four hundred and eighty even two and forty refresh rate is you really can't tell
- 43:25the difference on it. When you get to a sports game like football or
- 43:30baseball football mostly really because it's such a high, you know, fast paced
- 43:34game, you're gonna want to high refresh rate. However, now going back
- 43:37to what you mentioned earlier, the super Bowl, right this last super Bowl.
- 43:39Yeah, I actually paid an extra ten dollars to get the super Bowl
- 43:45in four K because I have absolutely, absolutely for ten dollars. I paid
- 43:50extra ten dollars to YouTube TV. I got the super Bowl in four K,
- 43:53and it was fantastic. On the over air broadcast, I noticed some
- 44:00some artifacts, some weird stuff going on on the broadcast signal. Yeah,
- 44:06but everything about the Super Bowl and four K was great, except for the
- 44:08outcome of the winner. You have visio. I had a visio. I'll
- 44:15be honest with you. I had a visio. Still. I had a
- 44:19fifty inch video and the back light went out on it. So a calm
- 44:22down on me too. Somebody gave it to me. That's that's how much
- 44:24I paid for this video. Yeah, I had I had one video that
- 44:29the panel I had one video that the back light went out. I had
- 44:32one video that had a yellow line vertical line come through it. Uh.
- 44:37And then I still have one visio up in our master bedroom that's a smaller
- 44:39one, like a twenty inch TV or whatever. That thing has been going
- 44:44strong since two thousand and nine. Do you remember the older televisions how they
- 44:49would last forever? I mean I remember number one. My parents had this
- 44:53television that sat in the corner that was enormous, but yet the screen was
- 44:59small. It was like a nineteen inch television, but the but the console
- 45:04that it was in was just but it weighed like a weighed amount as a
- 45:07small car. Yeah, nobody would steal it. They that was one of
- 45:12the benefits. Now they can just take it off the wall and you know,
- 45:15and run with it because there they're lights. They looked great and they
- 45:20got a bigger screen, So people do that. But those TVs, those
- 45:22big ones that they We had a Packard Bell television, a third Packard bellion.
- 45:29Oh yeah, yeah, Packard television. Packer Bell had thirteen channels and
- 45:32some UAHF and it was black and white. And I remember that television just
- 45:37lasted forever. See I'm old enough to remember the age of before cable,
- 45:43you know, like with the VHF UAHF. I remember that we had one
- 45:46of our first TVs was like that way. But after that then we got
- 45:50cable. But I do remember the big, huge sets. I remember having
- 45:53gosh it was a fifty five inch I think, and it was massive.
- 46:00I mean this thing. You had to have a crane to put this thing
- 46:04in your house. Now a fifty five inch you could lift it up with
- 46:07one hand. Oh yeah, yeah, seriously, they don't seem that big
- 46:09anymore. But you know, now you can go out and buy the ninety
- 46:13inch television, which I feel like you put it in that's only two foot
- 46:16wide. Really, go ahead, yeah you would have go on o rand
- 46:23is about real quick. As as an early early audio file. I got
- 46:28a problem with these combo TVs. You got Zoomo in a TV, you
- 46:31got Amazon Fire TV, you got your uh uh, what's the what's the
- 46:38other one that's coming? I think? Uh uh? Anyway, Yeah,
- 46:42I think Zuomo is gonna be on Inxfinity, which is gonna be interesting.
- 46:45That's what I was thinking. Yeah, yeah, expindity, the problem is
- 46:47gonna and I've dealt with a lot of these teats, these combo TVs.
- 46:51After a while, they're just like any other cheap device, which is they
- 46:55don't have enough space, they don't have enough RAND, they don't have enough
- 46:58storage, and they don't process the information fast enough. It's time for you
- 47:02to get another TV. Why do people see I have outboard units. I
- 47:07have an outboard firestick. I have an outboard uh uh zoomo unit. Uh
- 47:14huh. They're gonna last longer they get the two uh two gigabytes ram in
- 47:17it. I mean, you know, I never use I never used the
- 47:21built in features on a TV. I have all those, like you said,
- 47:22outboard. I have a Chrome cast or Chrome TV, Google TV they
- 47:27call it now. Yeah, uh, I use those all over the place.
- 47:29I got the Xbox I got you know whatever. But yeah, I
- 47:30don't use the built in Do you use Android TV? That's that's an outboard
- 47:35unit. I haven't tried yet. Well that that's what Google TV is is
- 47:37Android TV basically. But this was from Nvidio. They've got their own little
- 47:40standing. Oh yeah, no, no, I don't use shield. I
- 47:43don't use shield. I've had a Google TV and I loved it. You
- 47:46want to know something very interesting though about the smart TVs, how smart they
- 47:52really are, and I think we might have talked about this in a previous
- 47:53show. I have a DNS uh server in my house. It's called the
- 48:00it's a weird name. It's called a pie hole, okay, but it's
- 48:05it's made. It's using a Raspberry pie the little cheap little computers and run
- 48:08Linux. But this is my DNS server and all the units in my house
- 48:14talk to this before they get access to the internet. Once I put the
- 48:19pie hole on the top of fenders of DNS entries DNS requests where my Samsung
- 48:27TV and my LGTV, they were sending out thousands of requests per hour and
- 48:36most of it was tracking purposes. And so once I am finally installed using
- 48:40the pie hole, you can install these like DNS black hole lists, where
- 48:45if it tries to access this particular domain, it black holes it and in
- 48:50the TV or whatever the device is is like, hey, I'm still here
- 48:53waiting for my response, and it never gets a response. These TVs are
- 48:59insane how much they take of your data. They watch they know every app
- 49:04you're using, how long you're using it, what the volume of the TV
- 49:08is, what your color settings on the TV is what your resolution of the
- 49:13TV is. It reports all of that data back so it can be sold
- 49:16to data brokers. This is why large TVs that are considered smart TVs are
- 49:22so cheap, because they're making their money. Hold on, They're making their
- 49:27money by selling all of your data of everything you watch. Yep, I
- 49:32got a confession to make. What I haven't told you guys about. I
- 49:35signed up for Telly t e L y all right? I ever heard of
- 49:38it? Nah? That's the company that's sending out free television. Oh.
- 49:45Yes, they have a thing at the bottom of it that runs ads.
- 49:49Ye. So oh, I haven't gotten it yet. I haven't gotten it
- 49:51yet, but I signed up for it because I'm nosy. I want to
- 49:53know. I want to see this thing, all right. I want to
- 49:55tell you about something really cool on television this past week. I saw are
- 50:00we watching over the error on a cable? Slick? Because you saw the
- 50:02segment? Yes? Which one? Would you? Over the error cable over
- 50:07the air? Oh? Yeah? Okay? So I showed the Atari,
- 50:12my Arcade Atari. It's a handheld device with about one hundred game titles.
- 50:16You can buy it for about thirty eight bucks. Uh, they're the eight
- 50:19bit you know graphics. It's kind of fun if you don't want to type
- 50:22your phone and play with this. But I found this website in doing some
- 50:24research. Aa r P. That's the you know AA No, listen to
- 50:30me. If you go to games dot a ARP dot org. Yeah,
- 50:36Forward Slash Category, Forward Slash Atari Dash Games, you could play these games
- 50:42right there on your computer, absolutely free. You don't even have to be
- 50:45an a ARP member. Just just ignore, ignore the sign up. I'm
- 50:51sorry, but that's almost a little bit of an insult people. Well,
- 50:54because if you're if you're old enough to remember Atari, you're old enough to
- 50:59qualify for AP which is me. They have games like Asteroids, Missile Command,
- 51:04fun games, and again you can play for free right there in front
- 51:07of your computer games dot AARP dot org. I think you'll have fun with
- 51:12that. Quick break, we'll be back with more of tech talk Radio.
- 51:15We got this woman to tell you about who's pretty amazing. Standing by here.
- 51:19I'm Andy Taylor, I am slick, and I'm justin again. Find
- 51:22us on Facebook at facebook dot com. Force Slash tech Talkers were right back
- 51:27and now back to tech Talk Radio. We saw this story this week,
- 51:31and we just thought it was pretty cool justin you actually wanted to tell us
- 51:35a little about her as well. Maria a Ravallo And why are people talking
- 51:39about her? Well because she this Maria is eighty one years old, all
- 51:45right, and she plays a game called free Fire. Now she's a gamer
- 51:52at eighty one, eighty one years old. Nice free free Fire is a
- 51:55popular online video game in Chile, and she plays it in her home.
- 52:01And the reason behind it was she said that she was kind of feeling a
- 52:06little bit sad and empty after the death of her husband, but her grandson
- 52:09introduced her to gaming. Oh ye, she loves to play this game and
- 52:15it kind of in a way, it kind of reminds me of my own
- 52:17mom because my mom played Xbox for many years. I don't think she doesn't
- 52:22play it anymore, and she's not that, you know, as old as
- 52:25as Maria here. But my mom's gamer tag on Xbox is Granny Gunsmith.
- 52:31I like that. And she used to play Call of Duty. She would
- 52:37mop up the floor with people and it would be Granny Gunsmith at the top,
- 52:42and people would like be on voice chat with her and she'd be like,
- 52:45yeah, I'm like sixty years old and I'm playing games and they're like,
- 52:49what the heck? Yeah, you know this Maria eighty one years old
- 52:52plays a game called free Fire in Chile. Yeah. I mean that's amazing.
- 52:55I think gamer Granny. She even has people that kind of follow her
- 53:00now to watch her while she's playing these games or to actually interact with her
- 53:06while she's playing the games, and it's like open her up to a whole
- 53:09new community of really accepting people. Well, there's a we were talking earlier
- 53:15about streamers, right, there's another streamer and I I'm sorry, but I
- 53:19forget her name on the top of my head. I don't have time to
- 53:21look at it right now. But she's also a grandmother, and she's probably
- 53:25around sixty sixty five years old, but she's a live streamer. She streams
- 53:30herself playing games. I think it's on Twitch or maybe it's on Facebook or
- 53:35whatever, but she and she's pretty popular. I mean, she's got,
- 53:37you know, hundreds of people that watch her every single day play these games.
- 53:43But what they love about her is it's like she's like their grandmother.
- 53:47Like she'll talk to them like their grandmother. She'll do the best part is
- 53:52that she'll be playing a game and she's like, oh, hey there,
- 53:55Mark, how you doing. How's the wife? Oh my god, I'm
- 53:59gonna get your get out of my Oh sorry, Mark, I'm here,
- 54:04Mark. You know, I'll tell me about this game free fire this.
- 54:07I mean, what kind of game is this she's playing? No, I
- 54:10think it's a for what I understand, it's a kind of a first person
- 54:14shooter. Oh yeah, yeah, looks like it. And she has she
- 54:16has a lot of fun with that. So before we get out of here,
- 54:20I wanted to mention Blue Sky is now open. Uh. Now,
- 54:23Blue Sky is an alternative to x or Twitter. It's been was invitation only
- 54:29for the longest time. Now it's fully open. So if you go to
- 54:31b s k y dot a p P you could sign up for free account.
- 54:37I did. The thing is I don't know anybody that's on there yet,
- 54:40and uh, it reminds me of Twitter. Right away. I got
- 54:45hit with politicals Oh boy, that's all we need. Well, there's another
- 54:50one out there that was just a little bit ago when Elon took over Twitter,
- 54:52and it was called Mastodon. Oh yeah, they call yeah. Mastadon
- 54:57was the other one that was out there and that that kind of competed with
- 54:59the Blue Sky because Blue Sky again was invite only, whereas Mastodon was open,
- 55:04like anybody could sign up, and I signed up for Macedon and the
- 55:06same thing. I don't want nothing to do with it. Oh well,
- 55:08I have a count I follow one person, and that is Blue Sky.
- 55:12But if you want to try it out, send me a note, let
- 55:14me know. I'll fall in and you know, maybe we start our own
- 55:15little circle. But either way, it's bsky dot app. All right,
- 55:21Well, that's it for this week tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 55:24I am Slick, and I'm Justin. Find us on the web at tech
- 55:28talk radio dot com. Have yourselves great week. We'll see you next time.
