  When the storms of life come your way, it is important to have your foundation
• 1:07
  built on the rock of Jesus Christ.

  Storms come whether you are a child of God or not, but only the child of God
• 1:15
  has a foundation that will hold and a true help in time of need.

  In Matthew 7, beginning in verse 24, it reads like this, Therefore,
• 1:38
  whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto
• 1:43
  a wise man which built his house upon a rock.
• 1:47
  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
• 1:52
  and beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock.
• 1:58
  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
• 2:02
  shall he be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand.

  And the rain descended, and the floods came,
• 2:11
  and the winds blew, and beat upon that house,
• 2:14
  and it fell and great was the fall of it i want you to see a few things in this
• 2:20
  passage of scripture when you look obviously these are two different people
• 2:24
  but they're both hearing the same thing so it kind of reminds us as those people
• 2:32
  who are sit in a congregation.
• 2:34
  And they hear the word of god being spoken and some of them act upon it and some of them don't.
• 2:44
  And there's a difference in hearing and building upon something.
• 2:50
  So I want you to see that the one who builds upon the rock faces the rain and the floods and the wind.
• 3:01
  And the one who builds upon the sand faces the rain and the floods and the wind.
• 3:06
  Faces the rain the floods
• 3:10
  and the wind there's a
• 3:13
  misconception in this world that people who are saved they get saved and then
• 3:18
  they live this smooth wonderful life that nothing ever happens to them but this
• 3:22
  parable right here that jesus is speaking to us is incredibly important to grasp
• 3:28
  that it is raining on the just and the unjust,
• 3:31
  that it is, they are both facing the very same thing.
• 3:36
  And in fact, I submit to you that the closer you get to the Lord,
• 3:41
  the more the devil is upset by you and the more obstacles that he will place
• 3:45
  in your path that can cause you to have stress and anxiety and problems.
• 3:51
  But the Christian who is following close to the Lord, who's given their heart
• 3:56
  to God, who's walking in the center of his will, realizes that greater is he
• 4:00
  that is in them than he that is in the world.
• 4:03
  And they also know that they're to lean not unto their own understanding,
• 4:06
  but in all their ways acknowledge him and he directs their paths to not be wise
• 4:11
  in their own eyes, but to depart from evil and to fear the Lord.
• 4:15
  And when we begin to understand these things, we begin to see that being a Christian
• 4:21
  doesn't mean we are exempt from the things that are in this world.
• 4:26
  It simply means that we don't go through it alone.
• 4:31
  We have the Holy Spirit within us that...
• 4:36
  Guides us leads us and directs us
• 4:39
  who allows us to know in
• 4:42
  ephesians 6 how to put on the full armor of
• 4:45
  god that we might be able to withstand anything that
• 4:49
  the devil has for any of us that
• 4:52
  might be able to do anything against
• 4:56
  us this armor of god that we have in
• 4:59
  us is going to take care of it's
• 5:02
  going to protect us we also know
• 5:05
  that in in philippians 4 13 that he says
• 5:08
  that he will strengthen us and that
• 5:11
  we can do all things through his strength in philippians
• 5:15
  4 19 he tells us that he'll supply all of our needs according to his riches
• 5:19
  in glory we are told in psalms that he even puts his angels round about us that
• 5:26
  we don't dash our foot against a stone we understand that though we still go through the issues,
• 5:34
  though we still feel the weight of this world, we do not bear it alone.
• 5:41
  In fact, in Hebrews 13, 5, he tells us that he will never leave us or forsake us.
• 5:50
  I want you to think about that for a moment.
• 5:53
  We are not exempt from problems. And I don't have to say that to anyone that's on this Facebook.

  We are all facing something right now that if we could, we would just toss it
• 6:05
  away. We would get rid of it out of our lives.
• 6:08
  We don't want to be going through it.
• 6:11
  Just like the person who doesn't know the Lord. They're going through things
• 6:16
  they don't want to go through.
• 6:18
  They're having problems and stress in their life. But that person does not have
• 6:22
  the Holy Spirit to lead them and to guide them,
• 6:25
  to give them a peace that passes understanding, to impart into them a joy that is never-ending,
• 6:33
  to give them a comfort to guide them.
• 6:38
  We have that. And we also know that we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.
• 6:43
  So as christians we've
• 6:47
  got to stop telling god how big
• 6:50
  the storm is and begin to tell
• 6:52
  the storm how big our god is because that's
• 6:56
  what distinguishes us from those who don't know him we both have the same kind
• 7:04
  of experience the rain comes the floods rise and the wind blows But for those
• 7:13
  who are hidden in Christ Jesus,
• 7:15
  we are protected.
• 7:18
  And as David tells us, we are no longer on our own, but we can crawl up into
• 7:27
  the wings underneath the feathers of the Lord and be comforted by him.
• 7:31
  And we learn that little David in 1 Samuel 17, 47 says, The battle is not mine, it belongs to the Lord.
• 7:40
  See we feel the same rain we feel the same floods and we feel the same wind but we are protected.
• 7:48
  And for it to get to us it's got to get
• 7:51
  through him and understanding that he
• 7:54
  is our shield and our buckler that he
• 7:57
  is our he is the parameter around us
• 8:00
  and he is our protector he is
• 8:03
  our provider understanding that allows
• 8:07
  us then to know that we're not going to get washed away see
• 8:11
  he says here and everyone that builds
• 8:16
  upon the rock it's not going to fall he
• 8:19
  says i like him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock it's a firm
• 8:25
  foundation both the one who builds on the rock and the one who builds on the
• 8:33
  sand are facing the very same storms.
• 8:36
  But a Christian has a foundation that will hold them.
• 8:41
  And the unbeliever has a foundation that will fall, that is sinking sand, that can't hold them.
• 8:52
  Friends, we want to be the person who is building on the rock.
• 8:57
  Now, in this particular passage of scripture, no doubt believers and non-believers.
• 9:04
  Are hearing the exact same thing.
• 9:08
  But a believer is going to hear and act upon what they hear.
• 9:15
  It's doing versus not doing.
• 9:19
  Those who don't act upon what they hear, those who go to church every Sunday,
• 9:24
  sit in a pew, dress beautifully.
• 9:27
  They get up when they're supposed to get up. They sit down when they're supposed to sit down.
• 9:31
  They leave when the service is over. and they look like a heathen Monday through Saturday.
• 9:37
  And then on Sunday, they clean themselves back up and come. And the things that
• 9:41
  the pastor is saying that we need to do, the words that are being read straight
• 9:46
  from Scripture that are convicting their hearts and their minds,
• 9:49
  they are not heeding to the word.
• 9:52
  There is no action. There is nothing happening as a result of what they're hearing.
• 9:58
  But those who build on the rock
• 10:01
  they hear what god has
• 10:04
  to say they incorporate it
• 10:08
  into their heart and into their mind and they demonstrate it with their lives
• 10:13
  there is an incredible difference between hearing and doing we all hear a lot
• 10:20
  of things that we don't act on but this scripture tells us a great warning.
• 10:26
  If you don't build your house upon the solid foundation of the rock of Jesus Christ.
• 10:35
  You are going to fail because you'll be building upon sand, sinking sand.
• 10:42
  But those who place their trust and their faith in Jesus Christ are building
• 10:49
  a firm foundation. And when the rain comes, and it will.
• 10:53
  And when the floods rise, and it will. And when the wind blows, and it will.
• 10:59
  When the storms of life come about them, they will not be overtaken.
• 11:05
  Because the anchor holds.
• 11:09
  Jesus will hold them. Jesus says in John 10, 28, that no man shall pluck you out of my hand.

  I want you to turn in your Bibles, if you would, please, to James chapter 1.
• 11:24
  And we're going to read in your hearing verses 22 through 25.

  And I want you to let the Lord speak to
• 11:32
  you it says this but be ye doers
• 11:36
  of the word and not hearers only
• 11:39
  deceiving your own selves for if
• 11:42
  any be a hearer of the word and not a doer
• 11:45
  he is likened to a man beholding his natural face
• 11:48
  in a glass for he beholdeth himself
• 11:51
  and goeth his way and straightway forgetteth
• 11:54
  what manner a man he was but whoso
• 11:58
  looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth
• 12:01
  therein he being not a forgetful hearer but
• 12:05
  a doer of the work this man shall be blessed in
• 12:08
  his deed but be ye doers of
• 12:11
  the word and not hearers only see james speaks to us about a lot of things he
• 12:19
  tells us that faith if it hath not works is dead he says that i'll show you
• 12:25
  my faith by my works in james chapter 2.
• 12:30
  This passage in James is parallel to what we are talking about in Matthew chapter 7.
• 12:39
  We have to do what God impresses upon our heart.
• 12:45
  We do not get to heaven by works. It says, For by grace are you saved through
• 12:49
  faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works,
• 12:54
  lest any man should boast.
• 12:55
  It is a gift. It is the grace of God that saves us.
• 13:00
  But when we are saved, we are going to be about our Father's business.
• 13:05
  We are going to love Him and have a desire to do what He asked us to do.
• 13:10
  And the Holy Spirit is going to convict you to cleanse you so that you are more
• 13:16
  of what He intends you to be because He wrote John 10.10 for you.
• 13:20
  And it says that He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.
• 13:25
  So tonight I want you to really consider, Are you listening and responding with an action?
• 13:35
  Or are you hearing the word of God and ignoring it?
• 13:38
  Now, if you're here on a Monday night, listening to the word of God being spoken
• 13:44
  to you and read to you, it's a high probability that you have given your heart to Jesus.
• 13:50
  But I also know that it's very important that we from time to time go back to
• 13:57
  the basics and we really take an assessment of how we're living our lives.
• 14:02
  And that's what I want you to do right now.
• 14:05
  I want you to ask yourself, when I hear the word of God, am I responding?
• 14:11
  Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to have free reign in my life and in my heart?
• 14:17
  Bible tells us in Ephesians 3.20 that we can do exceeding abundantly above all
• 14:21
  that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
• 14:26
  Now, that power is impeded when we have sin in our lives.
• 14:32
  Are you hearing the word of God? Are you going to church? Are you listening online?
• 14:38
  Are you filling yourself with the word
• 14:41
  of god are you feasting upon his word
• 14:44
  are you studying in second
• 14:47
  timothy 2 15 he says study to show thyself approved unto
• 14:50
  god a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth
• 14:55
  in this james chapter 1 verse 22 he says but be ye doers of the word and not
• 15:03
  hearers only are you allowing god to have full reign in your life?
• 15:09
  Are you listening to the Holy Spirit when the Holy Spirit is saying,
• 15:13
  hey, you shouldn't be living like that.
• 15:15
  Hey, you shouldn't be going there. Hey, you shouldn't be eating that or drinking that or taking that.
• 15:22
  Hey, you shouldn't be reading that. You shouldn't be watching that.
• 15:27
  Hey, you need to be a light to these people and bring them to where you are,
• 15:32
  not let them take you to where they are.
• 15:35
  See, we are his ambassadors, and he's given us a job, and that's to be the light of the world.
• 15:42
  And we're to let our light so shine before men that they see our good works,
• 15:47
  and glorify our Father which is in heaven.
• 15:50
  So today, as we're looking at this passage of Scripture in Matthew chapter 7, verses 24 through 27,
• 15:57
  I want you to ask yourself first and foremost, Are you building your life on the rock?
• 16:06
  And secondly, I want you to determine whether you are a hearer of the Word only,
• 16:14
  or as the Word is spoken in your presence, as you read, as you study,
• 16:20
  as the Holy Spirit whispers and speaks to you about things in your life,
• 16:25
  are you doing what the word is asking you to do?
• 16:32
  Christians who build their lives on a solid foundation of Jesus Christ,
• 16:37
  those are the ones who act upon the words they hear.
• 16:42
  Those are the ones when conviction comes, there's a correction.
• 16:46
  If there's no correction in your life when you are faced with the truth that you need to change.
• 16:54
  If you're not renewing your mind, if you're not allowing the Holy Spirit to
• 16:58
  have his free reign in your life, changing you and molding you into what you
• 17:03
  ought to be, then you need to look at where your foundation is.
• 17:07
  He chastises whom he loves, and we are told to be doers of the word and not hearers only.
