- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, we might have to leave some of these just doing disclaimer.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: This podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: The content of this podcast is intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Do not delay obtaining medical advice based on the shit that we say.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Thanks, Mikey.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: So Jesus Christ.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: After episode three, we're gonna have a recorded disclaimer.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Because excuse my little friend.
- 0:40unknown: Excuse me.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Excuse my friend.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: She's a little slow.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: I can't read.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: So I was gonna actually make a game to say try to figure out who reads the disclaimer, but I think we figured it out.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: And you cannot.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: And I'm illiterate.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: But no, let's make it a game.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: We'll mix it up.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Oh Jesus Christ.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I'm sweating.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I'm sweating now.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: We did try six times before I just let her leave the laughter in.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I'm new to this, guys.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: I'm new to this.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Episode three.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Here we are.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna post a picture of where we are because we tried it in the living room last time and it was too echoey.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: So we're in the alcove.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: The nook?
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: The alcove of my bedroom.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: It's anyways, Laura's straddling a large piece of foam, and I will post a picture because it's hilarious.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: It's supposed to make padding and make better acoustics.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we are learning a lot about the uh science of acoustics.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Acoustics in and its importance in podcasting.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Hopefully this is clear.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: That was that was something.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Fuck me.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Anyways, what's uh so what's new?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: What's new?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: What's new and exciting this week?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: This week.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: We just wrapped up ball.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Ball's officially done.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, so that was your life.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: It was, but I don't know what I'm gonna do now.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: But go jays go.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: We can follow the blue jays for a while.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: We could if we had cable, but we don't over here.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: But I'm at your house more than I'm at my house, so that doesn't really matter.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: When I was younger, in my younger years, I was on TV before.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: So you may remember me from that as well.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: If you say bowling, I'm gonna hit.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: It was bowling.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna follow on what guess what channel I was on.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: It was channel 10, but it was East Link TV.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: East Link TV.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: A lot of people watch channel 10.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: I bowled on TV in my, I think I was probably 10 or 11, but it was Do they still videotape bowling?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Because that's the stupid okay.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I hope not.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Bowling's fun though, man.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: I it's fun, but to watch it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: But funny.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: When I was younger, it was really fun.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Now I just sweat.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Like I have to strategically plan my outfits when I go bowling because it's such a physical activity.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It's so dense.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a we were both in bowling leagues.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: All three of us were in bowling leagues.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: With the Royal Blue Jackets.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: And the so many trophies.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: So many trophies.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: So many trophies.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Participation.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: No, that was before participation was a thing.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: That was back in the 90s when nobody cared.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: I don't want to say I've ever got most valuable in bowling, but I did get high single.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Two years running.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: The Lord.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: That's the type of childhood we had.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: So it was fun.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: It was very physical.
- 3:24unknown: It's very bowling heavy.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Very physical.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Baseball.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: We were always in baseball.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Baseball is my life.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: It was always skating.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: For me.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Speed skating.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Speed skating with my with my full body unitard, which I also got to wear last year because it's almost like her code.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Fun fact.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Her birthday's coming up, but what an upset for you.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Your birthday will never be topped after last year.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: So this one, this is a shout out to Alex who got me um the ability to swim with sharks last year.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: We went cage diving.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And it's still down South Shore?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: South Shore.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Pubnico.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Pubnico.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: So we are in Nova Scotia, so you usually wouldn't associate that with diving with sharks, but our waters are getting warmer and they're coming up.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And it was the coolest fucking thing I've ever done.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: However, oh, don't know if I'm gonna post the picture.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I'm gonna post that picture.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Speaking of full body condom, oh my god, me in a wetsuit should be illegal because you should always size up when donning a full body condom because I could barely get into it.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And I could barely get out of it, actually.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: There was no there was no easy way about it.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: And I looked like Maggie Simpson's Maggie Simpson for the majority of that uh boat ride because I couldn't put my arms down.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I can't put my arms down.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: No, that's that's a Christmas story.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: That's Ralphie.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: That's Ralphie.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Ralphie's little brother.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, well that was a good birthday.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: That was a good birthday.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: So Alex Alexander, you are you have to you have to top it.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: You have to top it every year.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: No, you're not going to, so it's fine.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: You've peaked.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: You've peaked relationship.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: You've peaked.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: You know what I did say?
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: I I heard the other day.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: It said, um, there's nothing stopping you from calling yourself an Olympic hopeful.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: So you're an Olympic hopeful for speed skating.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: We oh my god.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: We were talking about break dancing the other day.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: I think at work.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: It was talking about something about like, oh, my kid breakdances all the time.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I was like, they could be in the Olympics.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Have you seen the Olympics?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: They're a shoe-win.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's is it still an Olympic sport after that?
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: That was something that one time that was a performance for sure.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Anyway, here we are, episode three.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Episode three.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I gotta stop laughing.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Anyways, yeah.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: We are going to cover today UTIs and DIYs and DIYs.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: We made these titles before we started this because we had to come up with some catchy names.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Um this is my favorite, I think.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Welly UTIs.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: But I think your your DIYs, you have too many, so it's gonna have to be Yes, and it's not like building stuff, it's like making stuff.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: It's like homesteading stuff, obviously, homesteading related.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: But again, we're gonna focus on like reducing waste.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Yes, because that's my jam.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And because food is fucking expensive.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: So let's not waste any.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: But you and first okay, so UTI, urinary tract infection.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: There's heavily, heavily prescribed for because they do need antibiotics generally when you have them.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Um what is a UTI?
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Do you know what a UTI is out?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: It is a urinary tract infection.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: There's do you know what the urinary tract involves?
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: So there's four main things.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: You do as a nurse.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Hopefully you do, yes.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: So UTI is a broad term.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: It's um your urinary tract is your urethra, which is your pee pee hole.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Your bladder.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Your pee pee hole, your pee pee tube.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: We're gonna use very anatomically correct language in this.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: So your pee pee tube goes to your pee pee tube goes to your bladder.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: And then from your bladder.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Your PSAC.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Your P sac.
- 6:59unknown: This is correct.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: And then from your P SAC, your bladder.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: There's don't break things.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Oops, I just did um there's two ureters that come from your bladder and attach up to each kidney.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: So one for each kidney, which your kidneys are located kind of in the middle of your upper not upper back, middle of your back.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Middle of your back.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Usually people think it's right low.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: If they say like kidney pain and they're hitting their waist.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Kidneys are a little bit higher.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Um, but a urinary tract infection is an infection of in any of those parts.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: So further break it down to lower urinary tract infection, which is your bladder, and then upper urinary tract infection, which is usually your kidneys, which is kind of a more severe infection and requires some different treatment.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: So um UTIs are very common, more common in women than men, and we can thank our beautiful anatomy for that.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Clusterfuck of a genital system, or fucked up genitals.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, no shame.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Our pee pee hole.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Our peepy hole.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Our poo-poo hole.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: They're very close.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: They're very close.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: They're very good friends.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: So the the fact that everything is close down there puts us an increased risk of bladder infection.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Have you ever had one?
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: No.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: I if you've had to think about it, you did not have one.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know how.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So bladder infection, once you have one, you basically basically turn the tables at one time.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, the turns of tables.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: You bet you know you have.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: You're allowed to say the word.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: It's not a cutter.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: It's not a curse.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: But once you have one, you know, but still, when you do an assessment, like when you call the doctor, the nurse practitioner, the pharmacist and say I have a UTI, you still gotta ask all the questions because there's a lot of stuff that could go wrong down there.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: And you mustn't touch.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: In your in your no no, in your no-no square.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Your no no, your no-no triangle.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: That's not a square.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: It's not a triangle either.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: It's like a it's like a line.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: But like the V and the triangle.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, I suppose.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Anyways.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Anyways.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: I visually, I'm a visual learner.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, our anatomy is a real, real treat.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: So our urethras are shorter, less chance for bacteria to, you know, skip out.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: It goes right to your bladder.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: It goes right, right there.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: So risk factors for UTI.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: There's a couple.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Generally, for women, it's um having previous UTIs.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, puts you at risk of other ones.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Having sex.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Sex can mess up the flora down there, increase risk of a UTI.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Hormone changes, so menopause, bacterial changes all happen, less, you know, less lubrication, things like that can increase the risk of having UTIs.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Certain medications.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: SGLT2s.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: SGLT2s.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my diabetic educator sister here.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Um medications can help make you pee out sugar, yeah, which can increase bacteria concentrations.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Theoretically, they do they do though.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Like that's been proven.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: We have patients that don't tolerate them because of that.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: But it's I mean, keeping hydrated and and hygiene are really the only things to and age, older and younger.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: So, like usually possibly some incontinence problems.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: So you know, kids as they're potty training and wearing diapers and stuff, and then elderly too, if they're like cognitive decline, if they don't know when they're urinating, or if they're there's some bladder leakage or some incontinence that can increase your risk too.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: So and if you're midlife and you wear a diaper, we're not judging.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, judgment free zone.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I s I can't do a jumping jack safely.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: I yeah, nothing to do with my bladder.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: I just can't do a jumping jack.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: My physical status doesn't allow me.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, trampolines are out.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Trampolines are out.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: So out.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Um, what else?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Medic conditions.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: So uncontrolled diabetes.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So if you have really high sugars, your body's trying to remove the sugar biking.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Kidney stones, bladder stones, and like some structural stuff, obviously, that can put you at risk.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: So they're super common.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: They're super common.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: It's one of the most prescribed conditions, like because you need antibiotics for them.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but not over-prescribed because you need the antibiotics.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: You need them, yeah, yeah.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: And that's as long as we ask the right questions and we make sure that that's what we're treating.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Because fun fact, uh, UTIs don't have any vaginal symptoms.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: So if you have itch or burn or discharge or anything like that, we can I mean, if you can you can have multiple infections going on at the same time, but it UTIs generally don't come with vaginal infections, vaginal symptoms.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: I mean so that would be a probably yeast infection, but also it could be an STI, which all these acronyms flying around.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: So there's there's different differential diagnosis, we call it.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: So we try to rule out other things by asking those questions that people get annoyed with when we ask them, but there is a reason.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: There's a reason we have to ask them.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Um prevention strategies.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: How do you prevent them?
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: One might ask.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Some people are prone to them.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Abstinence.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Abstinence is key.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: All my post-menopausal, pre-menopausal, perimenopausal women are like, yeah, I can't.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: That's the only reason I can't.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can't because I'm gonna have UTIs.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: So prevention strategies.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: You have to, if you're prone to them, you pee after sex.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: So having urinating after sex can help prevent bacteria from hanging around.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Um baths.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: I love a good bath, but it's not good for it's not good for if you have if you get UTIs often, especially if you use like bath bombs and you know, bubble baths and stuff like that.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Um so showers are preferred over baths, medications.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: But like, should you like should you rinse yourself out?
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Like, should you what should you should you should do douche?
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: This is UTI advice and general life advice.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Avoid douches.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: You know medically in your circle of friends and the life partner selection.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Avoid a douche, avoid douches at all costs, really.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I didn't think they still sold them, but they do.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: They're like widely available, but don't don't use them.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Because you get all kinds of natural stuff down there to spoke of it.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: Your vagina is like a self-cleaning oven.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: Well, it's not an oven, but sometimes after the jump and jacks, after the jump and jacks.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: No, it's self-cleaning, so just leave it alone.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: It'll do its thing, man.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: And stripping it of all the natural stuff that's there puts you at risk of infection too.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: So um the body's an amazing thing, actually.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: It's very crazy.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: And from what I mean, RLS potty train now, but wipe front to back.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Always an important tip for women and kids and anyone when they're learning how to, you know, potty train because of that.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Wipe front to back.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Yes, but when you have a penis, it's easier to not if yeah, if you do it the wrong way, it's okay.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I'm trying to say right now.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Well, in men, they're less common in men because of urethra.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: The pea tube is a lot further away from the butthole.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: From the poo-poo hole.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: From the poo-poo hole.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Or pee-pee hole and poo-poo pole are close.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Boys are usually a little bit farther away, usually.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, usually.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Um, don't hold urine.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: So all these health professionals out there that stand and sit for hours and hours at a time, and you gotta go pee, go pee because you're gonna increase your risk of having a UTI.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Self-care, man.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Just go pee.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: So just do it.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: This is me telling you, your pharmacist recommended that you take random, well-needed pee breaks.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: Um, and avoid anything with like fragrance, powder, sprays down there.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Just that's I think that's pretty common knowledge, but whatever.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And hydrate.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Hydration is key in all systems of your body.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: We want to make sure that we're flushing out the system good.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Treatment of a UTI requires antibiotics.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: If it's a true urinary tract infection, it's bacteria, you need an antibiotic, um, prescribed.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Depends on where the infection is, if depending on your symptoms.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So lower urinary tract infection or a bladder infection.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: The symptoms are generally um increased frequency.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: So needing to go, go, go all the time, always having the urge to go.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: But if you go, you don't usually pee a lot.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: It's just a little dribble once in a while.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Teaspoon at a time.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: And a little bit of a pain when you're peeing.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: So a little uh it's at kind of the end of your stream, usually.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: There's a little like a stabbing pain.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: It also increased urgency, so the need to go without actually having to go.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Some lower abdominal pain, so lower belly pain, which is not always a UTI, it could be like PMS or you know, pelvic inflammatory disease.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: But um the I want to say the go-to symptoms for diagnosis is like increased frequency and it's called dysuria or painful urination.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: So some type of that sounds fucking terrible.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it twins.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: That sounds really terrible.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Because I know you never had one because you'd know exactly people all the girls listening are like, yep, yeah, bro.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: No, I have not.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not knock on fucking woodman on tomorrow.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I'm impressed actually.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I'm impressed with that.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Because being pregnant actually increases your risk too.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Um what's the other one?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Kidney infection.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: So kidney infection is you have similar symptoms sometimes, but if you have like a fever or chills or like radiating back pain, which means like pain from the bottom up to mid-back where your kidneys would lie, that can sometimes mean you have a kidney infection, which requires different treatment.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there's symptoms are pretty once, like I said, once you know, once you have one, you know.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Um, why can't pharmacists treat everybody in Nova Scotia?
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Pharmacists can prescribe in Nova Scotia for uncomplicated bladder infections, are called uncomplicated UTIs, that is in women who have gone through puberty, used to have an age limit of 16, but like puberty now is happening at like nine and ten.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: It's wild.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: That's terrifying.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Um but as long as the biologic female, you have to have a vagina has reached puberty and they've had a a UTI diagnosed by a nurse practitioner or a doctor sometime in their life.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: So if you can't be the first one, can't be the first one.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can come see a pharmacist in Nova Scotia, many other provinces too, and I don't know what it's like in the states, but um pharmacists prescribing rights are definitely increasing all over the world because access to health care is declining.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you can get assessed, I know, in Nova Scotia for these conditions.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: So talk to your pharmacist, book an appointment.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Any community pharmacist can can do it in Nova Scotia.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Prevention too.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: I get a lot of questions about cranberry.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Cranberry does have some evidence for it, actually.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: I love an evidence-based cranberry.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I love an evidence-based fruit.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: But ocean spray cranberry cocktail is not what we're going for.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: It's delicious.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Do you ever mix with vodka?
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: I don't really drink.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: I know, but when you were 19.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: No.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Straight from the bottle.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's more my speed too.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Laura was there.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: She can confirm.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Can I confirm?
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Put her to bed.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Anyway, cranberry, you can get it in capsules.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Um, you can get it as like a pure cranberry juice, but it's really bitter.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Some people like it, but I don't like it.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: And you need to you need to drink quite a bit.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: So if you wanted to take cranberry as a preventative measure, cranberry, yeah.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Cranberry will not treat a urinary tract infection.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: If you have one, you need an antibiotic, but cranberry has a place it may potentially prevent recurrence.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: If you've cleaned them all the time, like why not try it?
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: That's my favorite slogan at work.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: It's it may not help, but it's not gonna hurt.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: I say that also so many times.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Supplements are super expensive, so I I it's up to you.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: You can try it if you want.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna try a natural health product, though, you want to give it a good like at least six to eight weeks, something like preventing UTIs, though, probably like six months to see if it actually does prevent them.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's not gonna hurt.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Whether or not it's gonna help, don't know.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: But cranberry does have have some okay evidence with it.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: There's also D manos, which conflicting.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: The studies aren't great for it, but that might help it actually being studied in treatment as well.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: But I don't want to recommend that because I don't know for sure.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: No good trials for me.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: You wouldn't you wouldn't say that's the dick for dolly, then?
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: No, not the D for D.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: No, we're gonna shorten that and say D for D for D.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: The D for D is not D manos.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: That word I've never heard of before in my entire life.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: It's not that.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can there's a lot of people are going towards health, health like homeopathic and natural health products and things for this.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: There's definitely a place for them.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: There's nothing wrong with that.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: No, but sometimes you just need antibiotics.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: That's where the crunchy ish comes in.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Preventative wellness, there's nothing wrong with that, but yeah.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, you need antibiotics.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Science wins.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Science, man.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Science wins in that case.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: But yeah, these are bacterial infections, so they need to be treated.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Because if you don't treat a UTI, I mean, it could travel to your kidney.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: It could become, it's one of your main bodily systems, so it could it could cause some issues, but um the so yeah, women, biological females with that are not pregnant can be prescribed UTI management in Nova Scotia.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Um, men cannot, because of that anatomy, how it's different.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Men, usually if men have UTI, um, it's not from the simple they it could be an enlarged prostate.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: It could be, you know, an infection in your prostate.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Excuse me.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Um, it could be something structurally wrong, could be kidney stones or something blocking the structure.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: So that's I know I get a lot of men that call and they're really upset that we can't prescribe for it, but it needs further investigation.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: It's not just a simple urinary tract infection.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Well, sometimes it is, but because there's so many other options for for reasons we we can't.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Um people with catheters, they have like catheters all the time.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: If you're pregnant, if you're immunosuppressed, so if you're on like high dose steroids or you know, high dose methotrexate or prednisone for for conditions, that increases your risk of having more resistant bacteria.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: So you need higher sugars, higher sugars, yeah.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: And you need usually more days of treatment than you can get from a pharmacist.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: But that's really all I got to interesting.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: You know what though?
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take my opportunity here and just do a plug for STIs as well because Nova Scotia has a fantastic program.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: It's called STI Care Now.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: You can self-test at home for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and HIV.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Um, it's an online registration form or like a request form that you fill out.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: You self swab yourself, you get it mailed discreetly to wherever address you want, um, send the results back, and you'll get contacted by it's usually pharmacist that does the send.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: And the prescribing for it.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you don't a lot of people are embarrassed to go to sexual health clinics.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Sometimes embarrassment.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I think that's a prostate thing.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Well, no.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Or the butt.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: What's the anyways?
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Colonel.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: The butt.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: What's the butt?
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: What's the butt?
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: STI care now.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: That's a very cool.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: And Ontario has a similar program in BC.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Hopefully it's nationwide.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: But also, if you're listening outside of those provinces, there's still like virtual health care.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: You can you can request these things, but they don't always come with the with the um ability to self-test at home.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: But great program.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Very cool.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: That's pretty much it.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: I have.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: That's all I have.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Any antibiotics.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I'm not going to go through the antibiotics because it really depends on what medications you're on.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Blah, blah, blah.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Bleep me blue.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Blah, blah, blah.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: But those are my acronyms for today.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: UTIs, S T I's.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Take it away.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: DIYs and D U O.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Never had.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Never had.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Don't want to.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Don't want to.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Don't ever do that.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: So speaking of capsules, that's the only segue I can pick out of that.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Going into DIYs.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, like I said, there's not DIYs.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Usually you think of like building stuff.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: I'm not building furniture over here.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: I'm drying out greens, basically is what I basically is what I do.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: At the end of the day, I hate waste.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: That's the biggest thing when it comes to since I started kind of homesteading.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: I like to use every part of everything that I'm using.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Best example, actually, we had the other day.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: We had we made apple crisp.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: It was a family affair.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: We were at mom's because she feeds us all the time, us and our families, because she's an angel.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: We were making, yeah, we were making apple crisp.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: So she cut up all the apples, used all the good stuff, pardon me, for the apple crisp.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: And she was like, Do you want these cores and these peels?
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Because you always do.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: And what do I do with those?
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I make apple cider vinegar.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Of course you do.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: So yeah, so it's a couple week process, but I always have kind of a batch going on.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: But mom makes a lot of pies.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: If you know her mom, she likes, she likes a good pie.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: So yeah, anytime there's any extra anything over there, if we go over and we have chicken or turkey or something, something bony, some some sort of animal with bones.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Usually the scraps come to me because I do something else with them.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: You are pondering.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: You look like you have a question.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: No, I'm taking it all in.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Um, the biggest thing that I do with a lot of so between my dad and I, we kind of live on a compound now anyway.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: We kind of share a yard.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: So therefore, we share all the fruits of the yard.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: So we have multiple gardens between us.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: So many gardens.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: So many gardens.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Um, dad's is beautiful and doesn't have one weed.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, mine has all the weeds, but still, still stuff.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: So he likes to grow a lot of everything.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: So spinach.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, there was no broccoli this year, but there was some last year.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Swiss charred is a big one.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: So these ones like beet greens, too, something that not everybody can eat a whole bunch of.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Dad can eat them every single day of his life and be happy with it, but not necessarily us.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: So, what I started to do a couple years ago was to I got my dehydrators out because we're uh we're a hunting family, so we do make um jerky usually in the fall.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: So took my dehydrators and uh Plural.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Pleural dehydrates everything.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: I have like multiple, and they're going all the time, both of them.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: I have a little spot in my kitchen.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: The dehydration station.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: So um, so yeah, I would take the leaves of all of these things, clean them, obviously, um, dry them best you can, put them in the dehydrator, and then I would just um use a coffee grinder.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: I have a dedicated, a dedicated coffee grinder for this, and literally just make powder.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: So all the powders, I was I was at first kind of making them like this is from broccoli, this is from Swiss turb, whatever.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: So I just mix them all together now.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: What I do with these is I sprinkle them in food.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: So I sprinkle them in Arlo's food, put them in yogurt.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Not enough that you can taste it, obviously, but enough that even if he has like toast with peanut butter, I'll sprinkle some on the bread and then put peanut butter over it because he's weird with he's weird with textures, but if he doesn't know it's there, then extra nutrients.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Millhouse?
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Is it millhouse?
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: No, that's the bully.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Nelson.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Nelson.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Nelson.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Nelson, yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and another thing I made.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: I was just wondering when you're saying cranberry, I wonder I could probably make cranberry capsules.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: Probably.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Cranberries are so hard though.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but they're when you dehydrate them and just grind them up.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: The same with yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Challenge accessory.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: Listen, challenge accepted.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I've also done beets this year.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: It was the first year for for beets.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: I didn't really know what to do.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: I grew them myself, that's why, because I had an abundance of them.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: So I cut them up using a mandolin and dried them and made some powder, put them in some capsules because dad wanted them.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: And I also have an encapsulator.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: That's a segue into that.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: But yeah, you can put anything into capsules, man.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: And that's the best way to come in.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: You've made liver ones before.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: The liver from my dear deer liver is massive, and I and it's disgusting.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: So and it stinks when it's it's drying.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I made I I ground mine up.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Actually, the heart too.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: The heart and the liver, and I ground them up and made them into pills because I am in need of iron.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: So I made some of those with these pills.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Heavy sources of vitamin A and iron.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Organs.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Livers are really good ones.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: So the other thing that I make a lot of is um broths.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: So we, like I said, I keep every bit of scrap usually that we it we it got to a point where my entire freezer, like we have two stand-up freezers because we're hunters.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: It's usually full of meat, but it was starting to get overrun with kitchen scraps.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: So um just keep them in bags and freezing.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: I just keep them in like Ziploc bags, just like the bones and everything.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Just keep them in the in the things.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: I get marrow bones specifically from my butcher from Laura Sponsor.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: And he cuts them down the middle for me.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: God love him.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: He's uh he's great.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: But um, putting them in there does give you a little bit more collagen and that kind of stuff, and collagen's all the rage right now.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Um is that literally what bone broth is?
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Just boiled bones?
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Give it a little bit of flavor by putting in a little thing of um cheesecloth.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: You put veggies, you put some onions and some.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: I usually put rosemary and thyme because I always have them.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: Um what's the other thing I put in it?
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Onions, uh, celery and carrots.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: And then you just strain it at the end.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: You strain it all at the end.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: What I usually do with that little satchel because it's so delicious, is I I can blend it up and make a soup from it.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: I literally like to use everything like 12 times.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Multiple times.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Multiple times.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: So, and I actually I tried to make bone meal for the garden.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: And I used your Instapot when I when I had your Instapot that time.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: I just couldn't get it hot enough and I couldn't get them to a point where I could grind them.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Like dried out enough, but uh it's coming.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: I'll do it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: I'll do it someday.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: But I tried and it it didn't really work, but um, yeah, that's basically what bone broth is.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: How do you store it?
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Freezer.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: So I can it?
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you can with a pressure canner, which I do have, and Laura and I are going to We're gonna do some tail.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: We're gonna do some tails.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: Some tailots and anything, yeah, anything that's not super acidic has to be pressure canned.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: Like any meat has to be pressure canned to be to be safe.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: Um, tomato stuff you can get away with with water bath canning and um jams and jellies and stuff like that.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Anything that's like fruit.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because it's all about the acidity, right?
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: You have to kill the botulism.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: That'll be a whole that'll be a whole episode in itself, botulism.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: But um, but yeah, we can definitely pressure can some of that to make it because I mean it takes up freezer space.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: We have a lot of freezers, but it does take up space.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: We use it a lot, our broths, like anytime Alex makes rice for supper, which we actually use quite often.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: We have a rice maker that we use multiple times a week.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I never thought I'd ever use a rice maker, but um, he uses broth usually instead of water, and it makes it delicious.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: And then we sprinkle in some of our powders.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: I do the same thing with tomatoes when I make my pastas.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: So that's just a way to use it.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Like when I when I make my um pasta sauce, pizza sauce, which are delicious, all the skins, all the the seeds and everything, I dry and then I grind them up.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: So all the seeds and everything, you're getting all that in your powders.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: What's in your dehydrators right now?
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, soap wart root and tomatoes.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: What?
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Soap what's that?
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Uh so I like to dig things up.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: Um, we have a little beach that we go to on our river that's down the thing.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Um, and I found something that I have this little app on my phone that tells me what things are.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: So there's there was stuff all around us, and I was like, what is this?
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And it said soap wart.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: And I was like, that's a weird name.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: But it said when you take the roots and dry them and add them to water, they have like it's like soap characteristics.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, I'm gonna try it.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: So I have a whole bunch of that down there.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's very lightly what you make yourself.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Very lightly.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: So I always like suggestions too, because I have a friend at work who um wanted me to make mascara for her daughter because she uses it for for whatever.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's like charcoal and tallow and castor oil.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: I think there's something else in it.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: But, anyways, I am going, I am gonna do it.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: I have all the stuff.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: I have all the stuff for it, but I just haven't made it yet.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that was just a suggestion.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: I was like, Yeah, fuck yeah, I'll make that.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Challenge, accept it.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so Amazon has all the all the stuff.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Again, crunchy-ish.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: Make all your own stuff.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Still use Amazon two-day shapings bucket.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: Like my vanilla beans.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Like your vanilla beans.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: How's the vanilla going?
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Vanilla's good.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: It's turning brown.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: Happy to know.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and I've been it's been confirmed by somebody on our YouTube channel, which what a segue into that.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: What a segue.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Um that I was told.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Mixing liquor's fine.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: So when you find out my liquor cabinet, listen, I don't drink anymore, so I don't even know.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I think it's a good idea.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: It's all clear.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I I get it.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: I feel so stupid, but anyways, that's fine.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Um, but we did start a YouTube channel because there's some videos.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Like I did my homemade vanilla extract and a homemade vanilla creamer.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: But we're gonna be posting videos just of little things that we talk about.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'll tape you grinding this shit up because what beetroot powder is beautiful.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: It's a big thing.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: It's a very good and you can use it for dyes too, because I make my own soap, of course.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Um, and I put some beet beetroot in it, so it's like pink soap.
- 32:14unknown: Okay.
- 32:14unknown: Yeah.
- 32:16unknown: Yeah.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we're gonna YouTube channel, our uh health and homestead pod is our handled.

- 33:57SPEAKER_01: I'm so down with stuff.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: No, it's it's I just thought stuff out.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: It's literally, it comes every day, and and a lot of it comes from social media, just like what people are doing and whatever.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: So I get a lot, I get a lot from there.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Uh like our our algorithms may be a little bit different than we talked about last time, but yeah.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: But yeah.

- 34:49SPEAKER_00: I yeah, we're we're very niche market.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: There's not a lot like it because they have recommendations for podcasts that are like your podcast.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Not one.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Patent ending.
