- 0:23Speaker 3: Hi Jamie, Hello Heather, and welcome back, Thank.
- 0:27Speaker 2: You, Happy New Year to you, and thank you for
- 0:28Speaker 2: the beer.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Is the beers arrived, obviously, and it is a It's
- 0:32Speaker 4: a delicious brew, isn't it.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, Well, every once a year we do a
- 0:37Speaker 3: Christmas co lab with the wonderful people at Emerson's here
- 0:40Speaker 3: in Denisan, and the bear is always a pilsner, one
- 0:44Speaker 3: of my favorite.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Do you change the recipe every year or is it
- 0:47Speaker 2: the same?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Well, I don't really have much to do with it,
- 0:50Speaker 3: even though it kind of bears my name. I know
- 0:52Speaker 3: the boys that the teams, the teams at Emerson's, the brewers,
- 0:57Speaker 3: the brewers down there have a bit of a play round,
- 0:59Speaker 3: so they just mix it up. Some years I like
- 1:01Speaker 3: it better than other years, and I think this one's
- 1:04Speaker 3: a really good brew. But you know, like a lot
- 1:07Speaker 3: of these craft outfits, they do have some fun with
- 1:10Speaker 3: their bruise, and they certainly had Emerson's have some fun
- 1:14Speaker 3: with the names of the of their bears. They had
- 1:16Speaker 3: used to have a bear called Gary, named after an
- 1:19Speaker 3: old bloker would come in on his superannuation day and
- 1:23Speaker 3: buy a whole lot of beer and come back again
- 1:26Speaker 3: two weeks time, so they called a bear after Gary.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It's nice. I like that.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Hey.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Now, since we last chatted, we've obviously signed and announced
- 1:34Speaker 4: the FTA with India.
- 1:35Speaker 2: What's your thoughts on that?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Well, talking about super inuitans, I know one who's not
- 1:41Speaker 3: very happy about this at all, and you were talking
- 1:44Speaker 3: to him to him or about him with Barry a
- 1:49Speaker 3: wee bit earlier in the show. And so when he's
- 1:51Speaker 3: got he thinks we gave gives, we give too much
- 1:55Speaker 3: to India, especially on immigration, does not get a good
- 1:58Speaker 3: enough return for New Zealand, especially dairy. While a trade
- 2:02Speaker 3: expert and he's one of our top trade guys, Stephen
- 2:04Speaker 3: Jacobe has rubbished that. He said New Zealand had a window,
- 2:08Speaker 3: so if we didn't take it, the next opportunity could
- 2:11Speaker 3: have been years away and there was no guarantee of
- 2:13Speaker 3: a better deal. He reckons winstons just dog whistling. I'd
- 2:17Speaker 3: agree with him on that one. And he thinks that
- 2:20Speaker 3: Winston could have Winston says he could have negotiated something better.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Stephen Jacoby says, somehow I doubt it now. Look, Heather,
- 2:28Speaker 3: obviously this has been an advantageous, very advantageous agreement to
- 2:32Speaker 3: us for sectors like sheep meat. They've got a really
- 2:35Speaker 3: good game Kiwi fruits and apples. Obviously dairy wasn't flash.
- 2:40Speaker 3: But you've got to remember India has got the most
- 2:42Speaker 3: cattle or bovines in the world. They're not really that
- 2:45Speaker 3: interested in dairy at this stage, but because of their
- 2:49Speaker 3: burgeoning population, they're still dairy deficient. So at some stage
- 2:52Speaker 3: down the track they're going to be looking for suppliers
- 2:55Speaker 3: and hopefully we're in the one one in the box
- 2:57Speaker 3: seat here to be able to do that. Jacoby went
- 3:01Speaker 3: on to say that FTAs must be seen in the
- 3:04Speaker 3: context of a very disruptive international environment. To mister Trump,
- 3:10Speaker 3: and it was simply not possible to get the sort
- 3:12Speaker 3: of gains that we had earlier, for example, our China
- 3:15Speaker 3: deal or even our cp TPP deal. I hope I
- 3:18Speaker 3: didn't get too many peace in there. So all in all,
- 3:21Speaker 3: Todd mcclay's done a blooming good job. Instance not happy
- 3:24Speaker 3: I just hope bipartisan politics prevails. Heather and Labor back.
- 3:29Speaker 3: And I was talking to Damian kind of to day,
- 3:31Speaker 3: their trade guy, and I got the impression talking to
- 3:34Speaker 3: him that they will good on him if they do.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah, because it's interesting you raise that because Chippy was
- 3:39Speaker 4: sounding a bit like he's got a few issues with it.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So is it a case of them just wanting.
- 3:43Speaker 4: To iron out a few things or they I mean,
- 3:45Speaker 4: because the thing is done right, you've got to accept
- 3:47Speaker 4: it the way it is.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So what's labor going to do?
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think. I don't think Chippy can change anything,
- 3:52Speaker 3: and you know, like he might be risk because I
- 3:56Speaker 3: think this is one of those issues that we need
- 3:59Speaker 3: kind of across the board support on. Obviously, I don't
- 4:03Speaker 3: think the green sorts of party Maury will do it,
- 4:05Speaker 3: but I mean Labor are largely sensible. I don't see
- 4:07Speaker 3: why they agree with us. It's in the best interests
- 4:11Speaker 3: of New Zealand. Think. Look, India is the most populous
- 4:14Speaker 3: nation on Earth. It's now the fourth biggest economy. Very
- 4:17Speaker 3: shortly it will overtake Germany as the third biggest economy.
- 4:21Speaker 3: We've got to be in their boots and all yep here.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you very much for that. Jamie has always
- 4:25Speaker 2: Jamiy Mchaie, Host of the Country.
