  [upbeat music] Well, hey, everybody.
• 0:18
Sounded a little louder in my ears than normal. [laughs] Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling- Clear those taters out your ear... radio program show number 119. What the fuck? What's going on with Tony?
• 0:32
What's he doing right now? I don't know. I don't know. Oh, he's doing a selfie thing. I never selfie. Selfie. Selfie with other people. Selfie with friends. [growls] Ah, so it's a little, little humid out today. Moist.
• 0:48
Got the door open, letting Locust Street [clears throat] give us its ambiance. Its pepper. There was some p- speaking of pepper, there was some peppering going on down a little bit, block or two away today.
• 1:00
Some kid leaning out the window going, "Cock-cock-cockity-cock-cock." Oh, to the east of the shop? To the east, past... Between Tracks and Klinger somewhere. Just, just need to shoot out- I-...
• 1:12
a couple of rounds- Guess so... with his stale bullets or- I thought I- Yeah... yeah, I thought I heard a Yosemite Sam- Oh... during the- Yeah, I don't know... afternoon.
• 1:17
I was moving something to the van, and I hid behind it, 'cause I didn't wanna [laughs] get caught- Well, yeah... in the crossfire of whatever might be going on. I'm so glad to be moving off this particular street.
• 1:29
Yes, because, uh- But staying in the beautiful 53212... it was around, it was around- Yeah, still staying in the 212... it was around, uh, Sund- uh, Locust Street days, there was a little gun pop, pop, pop- Eh?...
• 1:43
over by the bathrooms by Tracks, kinda off the beaten- Oh, that was a few years back... beaten path. Yeah. Few years ago? Yeah, yeah, yeah. When my neighbor got shot by his cousin because- Most likely...
• 1:53
he sold another neighbor... Wait, I'm sorry. My neighbor got shot by his cousin because his cousin sold another cousin a bag of weed for cheaper than he did. Yeah, Jimmy deserved to get shot. Oh.
• 2:04
[laughs] Sorry, I know all about the shooting. Oh, no, I- All right. Well- I was just in the- That's what this neighborhood's about, folks... I remember just being in the area 10 minutes before that. Mm.
• 2:13
And then I jumped on my steed, and- The best thing about that-... but somewhere else, and then all of a sudden it was like, "Dude, did you hear there being shots fired?"
• 2:20
But, but the best thing about- And I'm like, "What?"... that entire incident is that Locust Street Day didn't stop. [laughs] It's like- Yeah... somebody got shot.
• 2:27
No, I think Lloyd managed to go over there and do a little- Oh... compression or something like that- Yeah, yeah... on the- Yeah, I do recall that... sort of leg wound or something. I don't remember. Yeah.
• 2:35
You know what I didn't hear at, uh, the toad races? Yeah, there was- There was, there was no [laughs] gunfire at the toad races. Yeah. Well, except the starting gun, I guess.
• 2:42
The clang, clang, clang, clang, clang, clang, clang of Chicken Bill. So Tour of America's Dairyland rolled through here in a somewhat abbreviated fashion, I think. And hurried, it seemed like. And rainy. Was it?
• 2:54
It was rainy, wasn't it? They got some moistness. Well, the Downer Avenue one, it dried up right before the big race. Yeah, but their af- The pro race... their, their afternoon races [laughs] were pretty wet.
• 3:04
[laughs] I rolled through there- Pretty moist... early, and I was like, "Oh, this cannot be pleasant." Yeah. Yeah. Oh, great. What's that time travel bike doing here? I don't have any idea. Time travel bike?
• 3:15
I remember explicitly saying that I'm never gonna work- Mm-hmm... on that time travel bike. [laughs] I believe you said that to me many times, and there it is.
• 3:22
They did, uh, they did say they shipped the parts from the Netherlands- Oh... over there. Eh, we'll see what they show up and what they look like. Yeah. Hopefully they're the right ones.
• 3:31
Some people are silly with their bikes. Looking at you, Colby. Down or Shorewood too. Shorewood, we did Shorewood for that toad series. Yes, toad, toad stools and caps. [laughs] Oh, boy. Yeah, that, oh, that's right.
• 3:44
It was Mushroom Weekend, wasn't it? Ah, you guys are nuts. Fungi Fridays. [laughs] Well, it w- and it rained really good on Friday night sitting on JK's porch about 3:30 in the morning. It was awesome.
• 3:56
[laughs] With that, like, that semi steel- Yeah, it was- De-de-de-de-de-de-de... it was definitely a good- Obviously-... a good, a good rhythm... you guys don't have a toddler. A good rhythm.
• 4:05
Uh, well- 'Cause you know what happens at 3:30 in the morning when you have a toddler? Hopefully. Sleeping? Sleeping. [laughs] It's, that's hopefully, 'cause you're never quite sure. I have a feral animal.
• 4:16
Uh, not really a toddler- And-... in age-wise... yeah... I'm not sure about temperament, but- This morning I was greeted with head butts and nut kicks.
• 4:24
Well, that sounds like the- It's like, "Oh, thanks for coming into bed with us, kid." That sounds like my feral animal- Yeah... actually. [laughs] Yeah, his, his feral animal will probably grow out of it, though. Mm. Mm.
• 4:34
Yeah, yours. Not mine. Damn. Damn, damn. Uh, gonna, gonna mention Sealey Dave's n- new site again, Life Above 8, 'cause I think he's doing a good job with it. Yeah. Yeah. Got a little link in the show notes for that one.
• 4:45
When are you gonna say who's, uh, doing the podcast today? What's that? I said, when are you gonna say who's, uh, doing the podcast today? Uh, whoever calls in first gets to be on the show.
• 4:53
But, but- That's how it works... but we're all here. You haven't introduced any of us. Oh. Well, yeah, but- I mean, come on... we're kind of a known quantity. Come on. Hey, it's Fen- Oh, we're not though.
• 5:00
We got- It's Fen here... the big guy here. It's Fen here. Strongman Sam. And JK, and- Hello... and Tony Burger. Yeah. But Sam, Sam's observing from afar. Right. And- Judge... with the cutest dog in the fucking world.
• 5:11
I'm sorry. Stu is here. Stu is here. Stu. Stu is, uh- Guarding... looking out the front door like- Yeah... he needs to go take some business, take care of some business out there.
• 5:20
Oh, he's guarding the door- Stu's guarding the door... is what he's doing. [laughs] Thanks, Stu. Stu, you're just vicious. All you're gonna do is lick the shit out of people.
• 5:28
Yeah, but people that have guns probably don't know that about dogs. People with guns, eh, whatever. I mean- Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Idiots with guns. Mm-hmm.
• 5:38
Uh, I think we have a Facebook page for this show now if you want- Oh, there's a- I think we actually have had it- Oh, I didn't know that... for a while, but- I will have to look at that...
• 5:44
I haven't really said a whole lot about it. Theoretically, this is our last show at Fatbike.com. Ooh. Oh. Going over to Full Spectrum? FullSpectrumCycling.com. Such- Maybe. Possibly. Probably.
• 5:58
We should give it a go over there. Mm. I mean, all the shows are all there anyway You guys did some riding this weekend, did you? You do a reconnaissance ride for Steel- Eh... in St. Louis?
• 6:10
I wouldn't say it was so much of a recon ride. Yeah, a recovery ride. [laughs] Yeah. Or [laughs] m- I went- Midway ride Probably, you assholes probably went to Swing into Art, didn't you? I did. Yes.
• 6:21
Well, oh yeah, you did- Well, Monday. Actually, I went two days in a row I guess. [laughs] Sunday and Monday. For Monday is tubed meat day. And the special- Tube meat. Tubed meat. Yeah, hot dogs, man. Tubed meat day.
• 6:34
And the special, I did take a picture of it. It was, huh, let's see, maple mustard, cream cheese hot dog. Brussel sprouts. And with fried Brussel sprouts. Oh, you had me until you got to the Brussel sprout part.
• 6:49
But anyway, yeah. Yeah, I gave 'em a- You can knock those off... I gave 'em a go and I knocked the ma- vast majority of 'em off. Yeah. The th- the problem with Brussel sprouts, the smell. Yeah.
• 6:58
I mean, that plate o'- Both while you eat them and later... well, the plate o' food arrived and it was like, ah. Oh. Like, mm. Yeah. All right, it's gonna take a couple sniffs for me to get used to that.
• 7:09
Yep, no sprout for me, man. I hate Brussel sprouts. I did made the pro- the mistake of doing that, leaving it in the car just for five minutes- Oh, yeah... or whatever. Yeah.
• 7:17
I wasn't aware of it- Those will be there for-... at the time... five years... and then I cracked the door open when- And that smell... I got back in and I was like, "What the fuck died in my goddamn car?"
• 7:26
[laughs] Brussel sprouts. But they're delicious, God damn it. No, they're not. Both at C- Camino and The Door. Yeah, screw it. I'm not as big a fan as I probably could be of them.
• 7:37
Why would you get those instead of a creamy garlic Caesar? 'Cause it came with it. 'Cause it was on the dog. You ask for the substitute, you pay extra. Who cares? Oh, hell no, no, no.
• 7:46
Not putting that on top of a hot dog. Oh, no, no, when it's the special- Oh, it was on top of it? Yeah, it was part. Oh, fuck no. It was the dog- That sounds terrible... the special of the day.
• 7:54
Sorry, I'm using a lot of foul language. Fuck. Good thing we're not on the podcast. Are you in a good mood or something? I am, actually. I'm in a [laughs] really good mood.
• 8:01
I hit you at the right time with the Brussel- I might actually-... with the Brussel sprouts... be able to finish a house before the end of the year. Mm, mm, mm.
• 8:07
Things are looking up when just not that long ago they were looking not, not as up. So when- You mean like down in the gutter down? Yeah, they, I'm- When the world closes a door- They open a window...
• 8:22
or s- somebody- Or another door... then, then the world plays chess against you. Yeah. And then you beat 'em five times out of six when you're playing, uh, rugby in pajamas with them. And, you know- Yeah.
• 8:31
I mean, just-... when the world is burning down- [laughs]... you make the best of what's still around. So did you get an inspection on it? Not yet. I'm, I'm not there yet. Come on, Greg. Come on. Baby steps, baby steps.
• 8:43
Yeah. Really? Baby steps. For the love of God. Baby steps to the window, baby steps. I'm getting there. I have a fuse panel with wires in it. Like, all the wires I ran myself are now running down and into a fuse panel.
• 8:59
I saw your- By a professional... photograph of- Professional fuse panel wir- wire-er... a guy. Right. You know a guy. I went out and spent a lot of money on arc fault interrupters, which are- Oh, yeah, those are good...
• 9:13
$60 apiece, and I had to buy a whole line of them. It might be 13. We should, uh, I might have to ask you about your electrician. I like my electrician.
• 9:20
There is some left to do in my kitchen remodel, which is on- You like, you like Tristan? [laughs]... temporarily on hold. [laughs] I like my electrician. You like Tristan. [laughs] Yeah.
• 9:31
By all means, let me know after the show. I'll just be chuckling to myself over here. Yeah. Or I can shout out a, you know, shout out my, my electrician on the show with Frank, who's like the greatest guy in the world.
• 9:41
Frank the electrician, folks. Grissner. [laughs] He's the best. Sent a guy, showed up on time, doing his shit. Let's not talk about this though. [laughs] Yeah. Let's talk about bikes. Let's talk about
• 9:55
JK's ax to grind at Duke's. [laughs] Which one, though? Oh, you've got more than one. That ain't me. Who put that on there? Did I? I did not. I didn't do that.
• 10:07
Why, why are all the Beastie Boys songs banned but Clutch missives are available? That sounds like you. Why? Why would I do that? I don't know. Oh. But I, why would I be at Duke's? Well, that's a good question.
• 10:16
But why would Beastie Boys be banned? Well, why indeed? Do they, do they- Yeah, that, that sounds like some sort of bullshit... well, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. They can cut anything out of that jukebox they want.
• 10:25
Do, do they... Is it a TouchTunes? Yeah. I see. They went to TouchTunes? Oh, fuck. Yeah. Oh, man. That's the thing, isn't it? So you have to go there at least once so you can play from afar.
• 10:32
Oh, Lord, I could just bombard. It was a no. Yes. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 10:36
I did not know that about TouchTunes until not that long ago, that if, if you've ever visited a place, whether it's here or in Key West, Florida, you can play songs at it.
• 10:43
Oh, Lord, no, I like to, I like the, I like, I like seeing the reactions of humans when I play fucking Anne Murray after they're, you know, sitting there playing whatever shit country. I can't even...
• 10:55
Like, pop, bubblegum pop goddamn country. I don't know. It's just, it's games, man. Fun and games. [laughs] Sounds like you've got an ax to grind about something to me. Oh, well, at times. At times. [laughs] At times.
• 11:09
Well, I, I, I haven't been in bars enough recently to run into a string of crappery when it comes to what people play. Yeah. If nothing else- I suppose that's true...
• 11:22
you can see what's on the horizon and be like, "All right. I can get out of here," or not. Or you can do the combo breaker and play a fucking Anne Murray song or something like that.
• 11:32
Or, you know, if it's a lot of, you know, schmaltzy "... la, la" then you can put in, you know, a 10, 20-minute Black Sabbath and just right the ship.
• 11:42
[laughs] I think I've done enough touch-tuning that I can see s- enough songs to make a, a good judgment- Oh, yeah... about whether it's worth staying anymore or not. [laughs] Or whether I need to fast, pass things past.
• 11:54
Oh, yeah. Or you just get the vibe and it's like, "Okay, I can, I can do an entry level that's close to this," and then move them along and then drop some damn knowledge and then, "No, wait, wait, wait.
• 12:04
I can get you back here." It's fun stuff. Games, man. Fun and games. The, the, the lives of a DJ. Ah. And many lives- Dance, puppets, dance... of the DJ Oh, God.
• 12:14
And yeah, and the daily Mark, Radio Marcus, uh, homework assignment for my brain. I hate days when he doesn't do it because, like, I'm like, "No, I was waiting for this homework." I, I feel like- I'm ready to go...
• 12:25
yeah, it's like, it's like n- not watching Jeopardy! or something. [laughs] It just has that, like, hmm. [laughs] And I got to exercise my Sig Six- You missed Jeopardy! tonight... Sig Six Sputnik reference. Oh, nice.
• 12:39
I was like, "Oh, holy crap." Wow, there's a flash. Yeah. Well, the- Wow... the theme was weaponry and I was like, Love Missile F-111 by Sig Six Sputnik. And it's a...
• 12:50
Oh, I hadn't listened to that song for decades and it's fricking awesome again. [laughs] What kind of cycling stuff should we talk about? Hmm. I was listening to the music on my bicycle this morning.
• 13:00
[laughs] I didn't crash this week on my electric bike. I feel good about that. That's a good call. Yeah. There are some events coming up. July 10th- Like-... the Salvation Ride in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
• 13:12
Ah, what's that all about? Sheboygan. Uh, benefits the Salvation Army's 45-person homeless shelter. Huh. Fair enough. Nothing wrong with that. Huh. Huh. What? Schwa. That's weird. He was calling.
• 13:26
Spinner said he called in when he's listening to us, but I don't see him on the, the thingy. He lies. Spinner, you lie. [laughs] Maybe he's listening to an old show. [laughs] Trying to reach us. I don't know.
• 13:39
The host is in the host room. Come on, Spinner. [laughs] Do what you like. [laughs] Or do- He, he don't lie, he says. [laughs] I, I, I, I- Weird. Hey, hey, Spinner, j- um, I'm gonna restart the, uh, the thing...
• 13:55
you know, Spinner's met Sam with those damn headphones on, but- I don't know what's going on with this. Uh, give me a c- a minute and call back. I, I don't know what's going on with this thing.
• 14:01
Yeah, Spinner's got the cutest black- or mountain curs. They're brindled curs. I think they'd get along really well with Stu, possibly the most handsome dog- All right... you've ever met. Okay. Hey. He'll be on now.
• 14:17
La da de da da. I'm gonna push this button here. Ain't, ain't technology great? Hey. There we go. I hear Pete. Welcome to the radio program, caller. [laughs] Who do we have on the line?
• 14:29
[laughs] This is Spinner again, or still. Or- Yeah, I don't know. That was weird... the second time... 'cause it wasn't, uh, it wasn't showing the call-in peoples. I, that's, that's the first time it's ever done that.
• 14:39
Huh. So, uh- I was listening to you guys for, like, 10 minutes. Oh, nice. I'm like, "This can't be the show." [laughs] Yeah, really, right? I'm gonna have to, I'm gonna do the thing I never do: edit. No, wait.
• 14:50
I'm not doing that. Spinner, I have to immediately interrupt you though. No, don't do that. I have to immediately interrupt you to tell you that we have the cutest pittie you've ever seen in the shop today.
• 15:00
Stuart is- The cutest thing? It, the... Stuart is the cutest pit bull you've ever seen. Even cuter than his sister. Oh, uh, Sam's dog? Yeah. What's that? Yeah, Sam's dog. Yep, Sam's dog. You know this. Oh.
• 15:13
Oh, never mind. You guys know each other. Just screw that. You know how cute this dog is. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I have a hard time kinda hearing you guys anytime.
• 15:23
That's 'cause he won't wear headphones and talk- [laughs]... 'cause he's that guy. Oh. He's yelling into my microphone. So I don't mess up his hair? [laughs] He doesn't wanna mess up his hair.
• 15:35
[laughs] Well, Spinner, what's on your agenda these days? Oh, a whole bunch of things. [laughs] Just got back from a big Michigan trip. We did, uh, Copper Harbor, Marquette- [laughs]...
• 15:50
and, uh, Houghton all in one weekend with the guys that have a fetish for putting on miles on vacation. Shit. [laughs] So that was a, that was a hell of a ride. Was it all- Hmm...
• 16:00
was it all on road or, uh, like- Gravel... trailer, trail, or gravel, or was it, uh, mountain biking too? Oh, that's all mountain biking. No, no, we drove to each one. I don't have a road bike. I gotcha.
• 16:13
[laughs] My road bike's at home. Yeah. [laughs] So of, of the- I went pedaling on pavement the other day. You almost got me. You almost got me there. [laughs] Yeah. It's a carbon, buddy. I can't. It's a carbon.
• 16:23
Of the three, which one did you like the most? Michigan Tech's got some good stuff, and that's the, you know, the Houghton Trails.
• 16:32
Um, I think they get overlooked quite a bit because of all the other stuff in Copper and, you know, everybody knows Marquette.
• 16:39
So I think I liked the stuff at Michigan Tech because it was, like I said, a half a day, and it was kind of our middle ride. I think we only got, like, 20 miles in there.
• 16:48
So the, the rest were, you know, big multiple day rides, and this i- I don't know. I, I would say if you haven't rode Michigan Tech, check it out. And the, what is the Michigan brewery?
• 17:02
I forgot what the brewery is, but they make good beer there too. Bell's? Not, not that far. No, uh, but, but, but- Saginaw or whatever it is... well, that's a good- Yeah... good recommendation.
• 17:14
So you're, uh, you're preparing for SingleSpeed USA, getting some miles in the legs? Yeah, getting those miles in and getting the beers in. It's kind of a, a, a little bit of both, you know?
• 17:24
We're seven, I think we're seven weeks out, August 21st. Yeah, it's a while. And, uh, this one is in Carrabassett Valley against the Sugarloaf Mountain, I want to call. Oh, okay. But it's, uh- That's where that is.
• 17:37
I, yeah, I d- Yeah... I didn't recognize the name, but I, I do recognize Sugarloaf. Yeah. I, I looked at some of the trails. It looks like it's built on a ski hill. Or I'll, I guess around here we would say ski hill.
• 17:48
Out there it's a ski mountain. [laughs] Right. So, um, been warned- Part of a ski mountain... of some climbing. I've never been out there, and I haven't rode that far north.
• 17:58
I started, I think the year before I started going to SingleSpeed USA, it was in Vermont. Hmm. So that would, uh, you know, give me a taste of those trails, but this is gonna be the first time riding in the northeast.
• 18:13
Who's your traveling companion, if you have any? Who are they? Yeah, who are, who are you traveling with? My team? Yep. Um, of course Dad, Chewy. [laughs] And then, uh, you know, the
• 18:26
Drunk Cyclist crew, and then the same 80 party people that go every time, and then whoever local shows up. I looked at the registration. It's a little light. [laughs] He, uh, has two categories right now.
• 18:40
He has single speed, and he has clunker/fat bike/ride your junk. [laughs] So there's a separate class for the slackers this year, which is nice. Yeah. [laughs] I think I got my, uh, my clunker brake fixed this week. Ooh.
• 18:55
Uh, it, I had a little bend uppery between the torque arm and the- Frame? Yeah. No, the frame didn't get bent, thank goodness. But, uh- Huh... yeah, it, it, uh, well, with- What was-... with, it, it, it's kind...
• 19:06
It was offset from the frame because of the 135 rear end, and the- Oh, that's right... and it's such a narrow hub- Mm... that it, uh, it basically levered the, the extension arm up and went all twisty.
• 19:17
It, it still worked. I probably could have left it the way it was, but it looked all janky, so I had to- Huh... so I had to...
• 19:23
And then I just kinda left it bent and removed the extension and just jammed it over on the chainstay. So hopefully it, uh, it continues to work, and it's- Stopping is the least important part of the ride.
• 19:37
[laughs] So I wouldn't worry about it. You don't wanna go past the beer at too fast a speed. No, that's what, that's how a derby started. You just crash into your friends until you stop. Oh, gotcha. [laughs] Right.
• 19:47
Well, that's a good call, especially on a- There you go... on a coaster brake. Yeah. You don't have much in the way of braking things to worry about either. No. No, it's a simple bike. It's the way to go.
• 19:57
I'm still- Mm-hmm... expecting five of those, uh, fancy, um, state bicycle clunkers to show up here. Oh, they haven't shown up yet. Yeah, they're due early part of July- Oh...
• 20:06
which by in my book is tomorrow, so hopefully we see them pretty soon here. Yep. Yeah. I'm surprised you got the order in. Wasn't it, weren't they hard to get?
• 20:16
Uh, I ordered them in March, and they s- they said it would be around this timeframe. But, uh, I, I may give them a shout- Mm... and see what's up with that. I'm sure there'll be some out there.
• 20:28
Um, the funny thing about the coaster brake, we had, uh, I'm remembering Single Speed, uh, Washington. And, uh,
• 20:35
at the end of the ride, there was a couple guys that rode coaster brakes the entire time, and, uh, [laughs] we literally, um, had to hurry up to get down the mountain to get to the party at the end, and they had coaster brakes, and they were...
• 20:47
The brakes were smoking by the time we got to the bottom of the- [laughs] Oh, boy... bottom of the mountain. Did any of- Yeah. Did any of them have- Like smoke coming out of the wheels...
• 20:54
did they have the cooling fins on them to kinda try to mitigate that a little bit? One guy did, but I think they were, like, true clunkers. Like, these were '80s bikes.
• 21:03
[laughs] Uh, there's some, uh, some characters, and the bikes themselves have a lot of character in some of these, some of these events. Yeah. I mean, there's a, it's, there's a lot of grease in there.
• 21:14
I imagine that stuff's just what's smoking. You probably have to take them apart and re-grease them every, every downhill you do. And no one knows, guys, that grease might've been 40 years old.
• 21:24
[laughs] Actually, a coaster c- uh, is it coaster? Uh, Bob from Arizona, his, uh, Coaster Culture company, I think he does something with, uh, coaster brakes.
• 21:35
Like he, uh, he finds old parts and then he sells old parts for those kind of bikes, for, like, vintage clunkers. Sounds interesting. Clunkers from when before it was called a clunker. When they were called bicycles?
• 21:49
Mm-hmm. Yeah, this- They call it a fat tire bike, and it'll be like two-inch tire. Well, I've got- Balloon tire bike. Balloon tire bike. Yeah. Wow, there's a flashback.
• 21:56
I've got the m- I've got the, uh, the money, uh, modified one, which- That's a, ah... he does some rebuilding and re-greasing and- It's a pretty kick-ass coaster brake...
• 22:06
and, and some spacers to make it work on a 135 frame, so. Man. [bell ringing] Hey. That's awesome. Since we were, since we were just talking about a mountain, we got to the top of the hill. Yeah. Hams. Yeah.
• 22:20
[laughs] The top of the hill. Some, well, something, we have Hams today. We have Hams hydration beer, but something's happening with Hams.
• 22:27
I don't know if they're moving or changing something, but they're gonna be hard to get f- until fall. So JK- Ooh... chased, chased down a, a 12-pack or whatever it is. 30-pack. A 30-pack of Hams.
• 22:38
[laughs] Why buy 12 when 30 is- That oughta last... five bucks more... that oughta last till the end of the night. Less than, yeah. It, I don't know. I have zero idea how that economy works. Yeah.
• 22:49
But I know it works on my pocketbook, and I don't give a shit. That works. Yeah. It's fucking Hams. It's Gore Ride.
• 22:54
Hey, this reminds me of a story that I wanted to tell you guys, or something that came up from, you guys were talking about, remember the old T-Box, a bowl of Schmidt that you guys were talking about? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
• 23:03
That's good stuff. That you could, for 75 cents, and you were asking why it wasn't on tap anymore. Yeah. And the reason is they quit putting Schmidt in kegs. Yeah.
• 23:12
So you- I remember something about that, but you can still get it in cans, right? You can get it in cans, but that's why T-Box couldn't sell it.
• 23:19
It used to be 75 cents a bowl, which was a, you know, glass, like a bowl on a stem or whatever, and it was, uh, 75 cents, so $1 covered your beer and your tip. Yeah. And [laughs]
• 23:31
I think they bumped it up to a buck when they started doing Pabst in its place. Yeah. Pabst was more expensive than Schmidt. They had to... I'm actually drinking, what is this? Premium. Mm.
• 23:42
The Greenbelt, the Friends, Friends beer. Ah. It's so peppery. Oh. But it's so peppery. [laughs] Any time, any time. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a Greenbelt Premium.
• 23:51
Any time I would ever have Greenbelt- Oh... I would end up having one, like, at, uh, my local watering hole when they did have it, and then somebody was like, "Oh, well, I'll try it."
• 24:03
And they were gonna, you know, so they order it, and a- shit, you're not. So every s- But it's so peppery. It's fantastic What? Is it pepperoni? Love a good green belt. That's like, you know- It's regional... yeah.
• 24:16
It is regional, for the sure. It, yeah, it's regional. I do. It's, it's like, uh, it's like Minnesota's High Life. Yeah. It was on the- It's like, you know- I saw the big sign when we were traveling for- Oh, yeah...
• 24:26
the show, whatever, at, uh- Yeah, we, we were in Minneapolis- Yeah, it was real... and there was a big sign somewhere o- over a bridge with, we saw By the Mississippi River. You, you see it everywhere. Yeah. Yeah.
• 24:35
I put it in the cate- like, you know, like, I would say Lone Star is- Oh... the Texas High Life, and like Yuengling is Pennsylvania High Life, and- There you go... Rainier is Pacific Northwest High Life.
• 24:47
[laughs] Yep, yep, yep, yep. It's kinda- Gotta have- Put it in that category... gotta have your dad beers. Gotta have some Green Belt. Yeah. Right on. Yeah. I want some Green Belt now.
• 24:54
That's one hard to find one- [laughs]... around here. I do gotta say, I, I do like, uh...
• 24:58
I do like how, um, on fatbike.com, the, your last episode is all Chewy all the time, and there's a fucking e-bike right on the picture. [laughs] As there should be- 100%犯... 'cause Chewy loves his e-bike.
• 25:10
Oh yeah, it's getting hard to come up with titles. No, that's his favorite. [laughs] Chew, Chew-Ebike. There we go. Oh. Oh, we gotta throw that down the hole. Yeah, I think we need a sticker made. He is gonna hate me.
• 25:22
Where do you, where do you get- He's gonna punch me when I- Chew-Ebike... where do the Drunk Cyclist guys get the stickers made? Because that would be a good sticker for them. Oh, that's gonna be a good one.
• 25:28
You have the power to stop the spinner. Ooh. You have the power. [laughs] Chew-E-bikes. Yeah, I can call Scandinavian Jesus after this. God has made this- 'Cause I'm, he's totally... He's gonna punch me. Yeah?
• 25:41
Everyone's gotta have one. Everybody at Single Speed USA's gonna have one. Absolutely. [laughs] Well, maybe that'll cost. All right, love you guys. I'll funnel in that.
• 25:49
[coughs] So yeah, you guys, well, yeah, it's seven weeks. Is anybody going? Is anybody that hardcore? Hell damn no. Head out to
• 25:59
ride a mountain on a si- on a single speed and drink a bunch of beer in, in the woods with moose and Canadian mountain b- mounties and- It's not entirely out of the realm, but unlikely.
• 26:09
[laughs] It's entirely out of the realm for me. I've got six kids. No, I'm gonna... I see to the pants at- Have you been to any? No, I have not been to any. Been? Have you been to any?
• 26:17
If you were at Wisconsin, I don't remember. If you were at- No, I was-... Indiana Bowl, but- The, I mean, the, the closest I've come to a Single Speed USA would be a Gnome Fest.
• 26:23
That would be as close to the kinda culture I kinda would expect there. Cooking bacon and butter. Yeah. Shit like that. My first one was, uh, Minnesota, which was in Winona, you just went through. True that. And, uh,
• 26:37
yeah. [laughs] And it was Michigan, then Wisconsin, then Pennsylvania. Nancy. Texas. Texas. Texas. Tacos. Have we ever talked about the hosting and how a Single Speed works, for those who are interested?
• 26:52
There's always... Do we have time? I don't know what you have. I'm assuming- Yeah, you can talk however you want. Yeah, yeah, we got, we got Big Sexy waiting to talk, but he loves listening to our show.
• 27:01
[laughs] Oh, okay. Well, we'll go through it. Yeah. Well, his, uh, isn't Heather, Heather's gotta be a single speed, isn't it? Or is that a three speed? Yeah. I don't, yeah, I don't think it's a three speed.
• 27:09
We can, we can, uh- It's a single speed... verify that, but it's, uh, it's a Schwinn Meridian tricycle. Yeah. I don't know if he can make it back out to Maine after he stops [laughs] in.
• 27:19
He'll have like three weeks to get there, but... And so, yeah, Single Speed USA, so the way it works, there's always the race, which is, you know, I put that in quotes, but that's, uh,
• 27:31
usually won by a local, somebody who knows the trails, especially that the course, um, the fast guys are usually like two hours, and then the slow guys are a couple days or so.
• 27:40
[laughs] There's, I think they kinda started being careful about their, uh, EFL trophies, because guys were hiding in the woods and, you know, trying to win that. [laughs] But, um, yeah.
• 27:50
Then there's always the, the championship, which is usually a derby. Um, I guess out there they would call it actually foot down. We call it derby around here. Yeah. Foot, foot down. Foot down.
• 28:01
I've, I've heard, I've heard of the- And then-... word hole fly out at people's mouths on occasion at events. I'm like, "The hell?" Okay. Yeah, I think that, uh- [laughs]...
• 28:09
Jason even hyphenates that as in foot-down derby. [laughs] I, maybe it was during Fat Tire Tour that, that I heard that. And it's new. I, uh, it feels fresh that- And it's new... why I heard that, eh. Yeah?
• 28:21
No, I just got- I didn't hear that part, but... No, I just got excited. [laughs] That's the last part I put in.
• 28:25
The most important part is the hosting, the hosting piece and how you get to host the next, next year's event, and there's not a whole lot of rules of how you actually do it, and the games in the past, like, pretty much are never really bike related.
• 28:39
I think there's one in the last eight years that was bike related. So in Minnesota,
• 28:46
the hosting tournament ended up being, the finals were, was Hammerschlagen, and that's what Michigan won, and then the next year was in Copper Harbor. [laughs] And in Michigan it was bucket wrestling in the finals.
• 28:57
Do you guys know what that is? Uh, that one is new to me. Okay. So you have, you have four guys sitting on five-gallon pails, holding onto the arms, like in a star, or, uh, you know, across from each other.
• 29:10
Your partner is across from you, from you, and your goal is to kick the buckets out of the guys next to you.
• 29:17
[laughs] So you can hold hands with the guy across, and then you try to kick the bucket out from underneath your, your neighbor's. Ah, that sounds like there's a lot of- Yeah... ball kickery going on. Did you see... Oh.
• 29:27
Uh, yeah, you can get kicked in the balls. It's part of the sport. Wear a cup. [laughs] And then, uh, [laughs] in Wisconsin, up at Levis, we were lucky enough that there was the roller skating arena in Hatfield. Ha ha.
• 29:40
And we did roller derby. Nice. That was Pennsylvania versus Texas, and Pennsylvania. Copper Harbor Doug. Copper Harbor. Copper Harbor. I forget, he won. [clicks tongue] Copper Harbor Doug.
• 29:50
Yeah, he's not from Copper Harbor or, or anything, but he just- [laughs]... has that accent. So we went up to Pennsylvania.
• 29:56
When he hosted it was, I think it was Arizona versus Washington, and they played soccer with leaf blowers. So you couldn't kick the ball, you had to move the ball [laughs] with leaf blowers. Yeah. [laughs] I like that.
• 30:09
Sounds awesome. It is. Yeah, it does. Yeah. It was actually a quite a long game. That, it's extremely hard to do. It was a lot of fun to watch Um, in Washington, I wanna say it was a kiddie bike relay race.
• 30:23
[laughs] I don't know how the rules worked- We've been through those... it was pretty foggy at the end of the night. That was up in, uh, Bellingham, Washington. New York won that one.
• 30:32
So we went out to New York, uh, Road, and then, uh, that was decided with, uh, bowling. I can't remember- Yeah... all the teams that were in there. I think it was...
• 30:41
It might've been Maine nationals- If, if only more things would be solved with bowling... and that was New York. Yeah, that's true. You, you could buy- Yeah... you could buy a falcon ball. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
• 30:50
Yeah, you know, I've been hearing- Well, and that was a nice thing too, because it was a nice big arena that sold beer, and you can have an, you know, [laughs] uh, an audience.
• 30:59
And that's, uh, that's when, uh, we took it down to Texas. Right on. And in Texas, if you listened to the show last year with the, uh, the play-by-play of the butt darts with, uh, [laughs] me and Chewy and Hollywood.
• 31:11
[laughs] Don't ever say butt darts again. [laughs] I'm like, dude, there's a lot to unpack. I- There's a lot to unpack in that sentence you just said there. [laughs] Just like, mm, okay. But you know the game?
• 31:24
I'm just absorbing it. So it's quarters. It's not actually darts, but you put quarters in your butt cheeks, and you have to walk like 10 yards and then drop it in a cup. No, fuck that.
• 31:33
[laughs] And- That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. [laughs] Should be a bonus checkpoint at Powerade 25. I don't know who invited me. I didn't do that. Just do that. I didn't play.
• 31:41
And last year- It was done with a, it was done with a pickle isn't it? In my day, it was done with a pickle. [laughs] So this is kinda cool that he's, uh, he's bringing it back, 'cause he had to cancel last year, um,
• 31:53
because of COVID, and I think, uh, the governor of Maine said no more than 50 people at a gathering- Uh-huh... even when they started opening back up.
• 32:00
So last year was Single Speed USA Backyard, so it's cool that we're finally getting out there, and we're gonna go out to the- Right. Yeah... northwest, or, sorry, northeast. Yeah. The east? West.
• 32:11
Well, you, it- I guess northeast. Yeah. [laughs] And you guys are, you're stopping back through Milwaukee on your way home to do Steel Is Real, right? Hell yeah.
• 32:20
We can do a, we can do a Single Speed USA- Well, we gotta figure out-... recap show... how we're gonna do that exactly. [laughs] You want? Yeah, we'll do that.
• 32:26
I will be an Iowa resident at that time, so I'm, be a little farther for you, from you, but, um. Oh, yeah, yeah, you bought a house there in D- D- Decorah there. Bought a house there in Decorah.
• 32:39
You guys, you guys- So that's a full on relocate... better visit. That's not like a second house. It's, uh, yeah, I think I'm gonna move there. I don't know. Yeah. The Madison housing market is ridiculous.
• 32:49
Oh, tell me about it. The Milwaukee- [laughs] I heard about your story. I was sorry to hear that... housing market is fucking stupid. Yeah, but I have another house I'm sitting on- In Milwaukee...
• 32:58
dude, that I owe nothing on that is gonna give me... Well, I owe 40 on, but yeah. No. We'll see what happens.
• 33:06
No, but I'll be moved in for like a month, and then we're going out to Maine, and then yeah, like we said, we'll come back, and we're gonna bring some, uh, hooligans from out of state.
• 33:17
Sounds- It's probably safe to party in Milwaukee- Oh, yeah... the way that we do at Single Speed. Well, in, in- Unlike, uh, Dave. [laughs] In theory, the- Unlike Dave in Decorah. Right. Yeah.
• 33:27
Oh, no, that was, that was not a great thing. [laughs] In theory, the shop will be largely, um, emptied out by then, 'cause we're probably gonna have a tattoo bonus checkpoint here at the shop. And pushups. Ooh.
• 33:42
Ooh, massive car sound. Vroom. All right, Spinner, you got anything you wanna let us know before you go? We're gonna get Big Sexy and check in with him. Yeah, I thought I might know.
• 33:52
If anybody's interested in Single Speed USA, check out the Facebook, um, Facebook and Instagram. That's where most of the information is.
• 33:59
If you wanna sign up on bikerage.com, that's where that stuff's at, so- Yeah, I got the link- I don't know-... to the Facebook page... if you know what it is. Yep. Yeah. Well, just search Single Speed USA.
• 34:10
I don't even know what the link is, but yeah, same thing. It's on Facebook. That's where all the information is. There's nothing hidden. August 21st, if you wanna party with a bunch of people that like to party [laughs]
• 34:22
and ride single speeds down a mountain for no reason, it's, uh, the event for you. Right on. Right on. Well, th- We're gonna see where we're gonna try to bring it.
• 34:29
I'm, I'm, I'm torn between taking it to Iowa or Key West, Florida. I think I'm on the Key West, Florida, team so far. But there's a chance- Well, that'll be underwater by then... maybe Single Speed Iowa.
• 34:40
[laughs] It'll be underwater by then. [laughs] All right, Spinner, thanks for calling. All right. We'll talk to you soon. Have a good night, guys. All right, man. You too. Peace. And- Oh, man.
• 34:50
Are we going right from this to Big Sexy? Well, uh, he's such a patient man. Welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Big Sexy. O-H. O-H? O- Hello. You're in Ohio? Oh. [laughs] I am in Ohio.
• 35:07
Oh, noice. And my, a- and look, I'm sorry, my phone's about to die, so if, if we get disconnected, it, it's because y'all were BS'ing too much. [laughs] Oh, that happens. I'm, I'm ki- I'm, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
• 35:19
I'm kidding. You're fine. Hey- Um, how, how's everybody doing? We- We love you... I was just thinking of what's round on both ends and high in the middle. If you wanna, you wanna try- All high...
• 35:29
single speed, you wanna try single speed, try to, try to do, uh, Erie, Pennsylvania, in, uh, in, in less than eight hours, Jesus fucking Christ. Up and down- [laughs]... up and down. Yep. And, and, a- And it's, uh-...
• 35:44
and your Head, Heather is a single speed, right? Yeah. Not a three speed? Oh, yeah. Yes, yes.
• 35:50
They, they do make a seven speed, uh, uh, Schwinn Meridian, and I d- I decided not to get it, because there's one more thing to break. Yep, yep, yep, and yep. Yeah. And, and speaking of that, guess what?
• 36:04
I got a flat tire yesterday. Oh. Is, is that the first one you've had on this trip? That's the first one I've had since Myrtle Beach, South fucking Carolina. Wow. That's a pretty good run. And I'm like- Yeah...
• 36:17
what the- I, I wa- I walked out of the, um, travel stop. It was along the side of the interstate. You know one of those big truck stops, whatever?
• 36:25
[laughs] And I walked out of the, I walked out of the gas station, and I looked at the, at Heather, I'm like, "The he- oh my God, you have a flat tire." The first flat tire I've had since Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
• 36:39
And guess what? I had a tube. [laughs] Oh my God, I'm so sorry. If my phone dies, I'm so sorry, but- No worries. So- I gotta tell you guys. Go ahead, go ahead. How's your schedule looking?
• 36:54
You're, I mean, Ohio's not that far away. Well, I'm, I'm in Ohio, and, uh, I'm spending the, the weekend, uh, the Fourth of July weekend with my friends in Wooster, Ohio.
• 37:06
And then I'm gonna, uh, go up and, uh, ride some of them roller coasters at Cedar Point. Yeah, Sandusky. Right, right, right, right.
• 37:16
And then I gotta go to Detroit and see my people in Detroit, and then I gu- I guess I'm, uh, going to Battle Creek, Michigan, to see my auntie, and I'm meeting up with you, some of you fucking scum fuckers. Yep.
• 37:29
We're, we're- Yeah, I'll bring GG Ellen on that. Right. I'm a good scum fuck. Yeah. We got- [laughs] Yeah. And I, I, I'll, I'll tell you what, I'm, uh, my, my schedule's good.
• 37:39
I, I, uh, I rode about 50 miles today, and I still got 10 mi- 10 more miles to go till I can check into my hotel room, but I wanted to call you and say what's up. Well, thank you very much for that.
• 37:52
We're planning on- Well, um- We're, we're kinda planning on coming over on the boat on probably the 22nd of July. Ride the Lake Express over- Yes, yes...
• 38:00
and then ride, ride eastward until we find you, and then turn around and go back the other way. Right. Right. No, i- i- yeah, that, that, that'll be, that'll be just about perfect. That'll be just about perfect.
• 38:13
That's, that's about where, where I'm at. I'm thinking, uh, 23rd, 24th, get on that boat. Yeah, sounds good.
• 38:22
And then you, you guys can make, you guys can make like jamboree or something like that going on for that weekend, right? The People's Holiday, the Riverwest 24, yeah. Yeah. No, I, I'm, I'm totally down with that. Yeah.
• 38:34
And, uh, as long as you, a- as long as, uh, uh, Dave and Carrie and Greg are involved, I'll be, I'll be all good with that. Oh, they, they've been banned. [laughs] They're not allowed at all. Huh?
• 38:45
They've been, they've been banned. They're not allowed at all. We're not letting them there. Oh. Well, that, that's unfortunate- [laughs]...
• 38:50
because if, if, uh, if Dave and Carrie and Greg aren't, aren't, uh, aren't allowed- Yeah... then I, I won't be there either. Well, but do you wanna get a tattoo? I do not wanna get a tattoo. Oh. You do.
• 39:03
Well, you watched us get tattoos. You want to get a tattoo. No, you're welcome, man. You know that. What about a tattoo? There's robotic tattoos. No, no. Okay. Okay.
• 39:10
But, but, um, um, wh- while my phone still has life in it- [laughs]... I wanna tell you guys about the Empire State Trail. It is magnificent.
• 39:24
It, um, it, um, I got on it in Nassau, New York, and I'd ju- had just barely crossed the border of New York through, from Massachusetts into New York, and I got on it, it went, took me up to Albany.
• 39:39
And from Albany to Buffalo, it was like 357 miles of just bike path, and it was magnificent. Along the Erie Canal, right? Yeah. Yeah. That, was that where they used to have the horses pull the boats across the canal?
• 39:53
It, no, it, it... Yes. It, it, it goes along the Erie Canal. It's nice and flat. Yep. Nice and, nice and smooth. And get this, there's a sign, a big orange sign that said, "Rough trail." I said, "Uh-oh."
• 40:11
But it was like spray painted bumps on the trail, and it was like, dude, y'all should bike in Ohio. It, it, it was nothing. It wa- it, it wa- it wasn't even like even close to a rough trail. I'm like, what?
• 40:29
Oh, okay. It, like, th- this is, this is a good and maintained trail, and it was awesome. I loved every second of it.
• 40:39
The only catch was that if you wanted to go to a gas station or a hotel or a, or a town, you know, you had to go up like 300, uh, 300-foot cliff. Oh, yeah. Right.
• 40:52
[laughs] I- i- and that, that was the, that was the one catch, was, was that, that if you wanted to get off the trail, you had to like climb up.
• 41:03
And other than that, and, and now, and then I, I was in Pennsylvania for 15 minutes, and then now I'm in Ohio, and there is no such thing as a shoulder or a fucking bike lane or nothing in Ohio, so. Oh.
• 41:17
Oh, and all the roads are broken. All, uh, like every single road is- But they have waffles though... uh, it makes, makes the streets of New Orleans look smooth. Yeah. Well, you're gonna like Milwaukee.
• 41:29
[laughs] Yeah, we're bumpy. We do have- We're bumpy... we do have a- I, I know... a lot of, we have a lot of trails... I've been, I've been there. Oh, yeah.
• 41:37
It, it, I'm just saying that I've, I've been, I've been pampered. Yeah, right. I've been pampered by the, um, Empire State Trail, and, uh, and, you know, um, by bike paths and stuff.
• 41:49
And then now that I'm out, back out in traffic, I'm like, "Hey, stupid ass dump truck." Yeah. That's true. You know? I-
• 41:56
I- I- I- but it's like, oh, well, that's just, that's, that is just normal except for I've, like, I've, uh, almost a fucking month of, of, uh, of not having to worry about that. Life is good and- Highway hypnosis...
• 42:09
then you get to Ohio. Yeah. Well, I'll, I'll tell you what, man. Uh, life, life is very good, and, uh, besides my phone about to lose power and I'm still about 15 miles away from my hotel room-
• 42:22
And I'm telling you, you wonderful gentlemen, I'm- Mm... I, I, I gotta tell you that life is fucking good. Well, we're certainly looking forward to, I'm looking forward to finally meeting you.
• 42:31
At least, uh, some of the locals here have had your, the pleasure of your presence in the past. I can't wait. Right now, everything seems to be right on schedule. I'll be, I'll be, uh, in Musk- in the Muskegon area
• 42:44
right around that time- Perfect... the 20- 22nd, 23rd. Perfect. I'm sure we'll hear from you beforehand. It's looking good. I'm, I'm gonna have to s- I'm gonna have to strap some new tires on the girl.
• 42:56
The, the, the tires I have threw on in Georgia are starting to wear thin, so I'm, it, it, you know, the warning signs are there. I'm like, "Okay, time to stop by a Walmart and grab a couple new tires."
• 43:08
I'm not even kidding, I have not had a flat since Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and I just got my first flat yesterday, and I was like, uh, I, I was excited about it. I was like, I was like, "Wow, I got a flat tire.
• 43:23
Woo-hoo, something to do." [laughs] I, I don't know what's going on. I don't know what, what's going on with this tricycle right here, but she has been a machine. Treating you well. Unbelievable. Well- Cool...
• 43:40
be safe on your way to the hotel, and, uh, we'll, I'm sure we'll catch up with you before you actually get- Yeah, we gotta get you the-... into Michigan, so... the light, the- The ticket and all that shit, so-... ticket.
• 43:49
Yeah. Well, yeah, we'll be in touch. If, if, if I gotta do anything with the boat ticket, uh, [laughs] just let me know. I mean, uh, like I said, I, um, I'm stopping.
• 43:58
My, my friends are in Wooster, Ohio, and my friends are in Detroit, Michigan, and then my friend, uh, my aunt's in Battle Creek. So if we gotta do something with that, let me know, but- I will. We'll do it. Yep. We good.
• 44:11
Um, yeah. It was very nice to talk to you guys again, and, uh, Big Sexy's coming. We're gonna jam in Milwaukee, ap- apparently, so. [laughs] True enough. All right. Thanks again. I'm excited. I'm excited.
• 44:23
I want, I, I wanna see you all. I wanna, I wanna drink beer with y'all and- Oh, that'll happen. Yeah. And I wanna see if anybody can ri- and I wanna see if anybody can ride Heather.
