- 1:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: Put that in the podcast, baby book.

- 1:37SPEAKER_08: Those casts were great, man.
- 1:39SPEAKER_08: They were a lot of fun.
- 1:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they were.
- 1:41SPEAKER_08: You know, we talk about this.
- 1:43SPEAKER_08: I think you could get the funniest material out of the most uh uh serious uh pursuits and the most like the things that involve life, literally life and death.
- 1:53SPEAKER_08: I can make for the funniest, you know, material and just topics.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: Oh, no doubt.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, it was really good content and uh enjoy talking with those guys and people like the clip on the uh funeral songs and yeah, so we're gonna keep it rolling, dude.
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: I'm feeling re-energized.
- 2:12SPEAKER_05: I just got back from our 50th state.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: Oh I went to Hawaii, Hawaii, yeah, Mahalo, aloha.
- 2:23SPEAKER_08: That's Hawaiian for beat it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: That's Hawaii.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: My skincare, my T held up.
- 2:31SPEAKER_05: It is, I tested it.
- 2:32SPEAKER_05: I mean, uh now I feel really good about the product and my partnership here.
- 2:37SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 2:38SPEAKER_05: I went to Hawaii.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: You slathered some on, yeah, man.
- 2:41SPEAKER_05: Every morning.
- 2:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_05: Put it on.
- 2:43SPEAKER_05: I was out there in uh in Honolulu.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: Now I went to Hawaii one time for a gig years ago, like probably 2017, 16.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: I was in and out of there, literally like 24 hours.
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: What Honolulu?
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: I was no, I was on the big island, Kona, which is um you know how how many islands are there?
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: Hawaii.
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: And why isn't it not plural?
- 3:06SPEAKER_05: Shouldn't it be Hawaii's?
- 3:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, there's there's a islands, yeah.
- 3:10SPEAKER_05: And one of them is Hawaii, yeah, and one of them's uh Oahu.
- 3:14SPEAKER_05: Oahu, that's where I was, yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_05: Maui, Kawaii, Kawaii, uh Islander the big the big island of Hawaii.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: And then the big one, Hawaii, Kakona.
- 3:25SPEAKER_08: Kakona.
- 3:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:27SPEAKER_08: Me either.
- 3:28SPEAKER_05: But I had a good time.
- 3:30SPEAKER_08: Long flight.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: Brother, that flight from LA to Hawaii is like five hours.
- 3:37SPEAKER_08: Good lord.
- 3:38SPEAKER_08: You ever did you fly with the uh with the thing on the back of the uh the the seat of the airplane where you can see your flight?
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Did you do that?
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: I always do that.
- 3:49SPEAKER_05: I love putting the map on.
- 3:50SPEAKER_08: Oh man.
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: And when you see how tiny and minute Hawaii is and how remote it is from everything, good lord.
- 3:59SPEAKER_08: It is far, dude.
- 4:00SPEAKER_05: And for that experience, you know, island and ocean and waves, like you could go Cancun.
- 4:08SPEAKER_05: You could you don't have to go that far.
- 4:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_05: But I did go to LA on the way out there.
- 4:12SPEAKER_05: That makes a huge difference.
- 4:14SPEAKER_05: You know, I spent a night in LA, that cuts the flight, and you're already working two hours back because it's like what three hours, five hours from from here the time difference, yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_05: Three hours uh, you know, off the Pacific.
- 4:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_05: So dude, I hate to be like the Southsider that when you are on the beach in Waikiki.
- 4:36SPEAKER_05: Here we are like, man, this is kind of like Oak Street.
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: Like, this is not that different.
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: What am I getting?
- 4:45SPEAKER_05: What am I on a plane for?
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: I got my knees and my chin.
- 4:51SPEAKER_05: My balls are in my stomach for eight hours.
- 4:53SPEAKER_05: I could have done this and they were damaging.
- 4:56SPEAKER_05: I could be a castaway.
- 4:59SPEAKER_05: Dude, anyway, I I enjoyed it.
- 5:01SPEAKER_05: I went to Pearl Harbor, which just that made it worth it.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: I've always got to be a good one.
- 5:05SPEAKER_08: Just to get revenge.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: Just to, yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: Where are they?
- 5:11SPEAKER_08: Uh Pat.
- 5:12SPEAKER_05: I was simultaneously getting my car.
- 5:15SPEAKER_05: I had to get uh dude, I had a blowout.
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: I had a flat tire, and then I needed new tires.
- 5:19SPEAKER_05: In Hawaii?
- 5:19SPEAKER_05: No, in Chicago.
- 5:20SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: Right the day before I left.
- 5:22SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 5:23SPEAKER_05: And then this, so while I've gone, the guy, my buddy, he's putting four new, you know, I got my guy south side.
- 5:30SPEAKER_08: You gotta you gotta introduce me to your guy, brother, because I need I gotta get some tires.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: He put on some Yokohamas.
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, I'm like, yeah, that's cool.
- 5:37SPEAKER_05: Yokohamas, that's cool.
- 5:39SPEAKER_05: And then I'm like, I'm at then you see go to Pearl Harbor.
- 5:43SPEAKER_05: Like, things have changed.
- 5:45SPEAKER_05: But dude, to put it in perspective, to go there, I mean it's a living monument, cemetery.
- 5:52SPEAKER_05: It's um I went out to the Arizona.
- 5:56SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 5:57SPEAKER_05: And it's you're right over the battleship.
- 5:59SPEAKER_05: And they left the the soldiers.
- 6:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's the the sailors, uh entombed in there.
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, man.
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, man.
- 6:06SPEAKER_05: And even if you were a surviv if you were a survivor of Pearl Harbor, you could still be buried there.
- 6:15SPEAKER_05: What they do is they cremate the veteran, and then you know, they put them in an urn and they have navy divers that dive down.
- 6:26SPEAKER_08: And put you down there with the rest of your men, with your your your uh fellow oh wow can you believe that?
- 6:32SPEAKER_05: I mean that was man, and it's very um you know, people very respectfully at least they waited for you to die to do that.
- 6:38SPEAKER_08: Just were you on the ship?
- 6:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but let's go.
- 6:41SPEAKER_05: Wait, no, but wait, no, we're going down.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:45SPEAKER_05: Well, how about the people they would you know go on and have a life and they're married 50 years and you know their their wife's like, we should probably go pick out plots.
- 6:57SPEAKER_05: Babe, I'm gonna be with my boys.
- 6:58SPEAKER_08: Right, right, right, right.
- 7:00SPEAKER_08: I got I I got I got a reservation.
- 7:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I know what y'all gonna do, but uh, I'm all set.
- 7:06SPEAKER_08: Oh man.
- 7:08unknown: Woo!
- 7:09SPEAKER_08: Pearl Harbor, yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: I I went to Hawaii.
- 7:11SPEAKER_08: You did?
- 7:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:12SPEAKER_08: I went a couple of times um when I was working on United Shades.
- 7:16SPEAKER_05: Oh, no kidding.
- 7:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_05: Um What'd you think of it?
- 7:20SPEAKER_08: Well, we went, see, when we go, man, we always went to see the social aspects and stuff.
- 7:25SPEAKER_08: Uh it was it was I enjoyed Honolulu.
- 7:28SPEAKER_08: I really like.
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: And I really made me realize I like I guess I like cities.
- 7:32SPEAKER_08: Even though I don't do a lot in the city, I just like it being activity, knowing I could do something if I so chose, which I never do.
- 7:40SPEAKER_08: You know, right outside my door, there's a lot of stuff going on.
- 7:44SPEAKER_08: Anyway, I'll be here in bed if you need me.
- 7:47SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 7:47SPEAKER_05: But I just like you're comforted by the fact that there are options.
- 7:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, like New York, brother.
- 7:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, bunch of stuff to eat.
- 7:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I can hear a lot of stuff happening out there in New York.
- 7:56SPEAKER_08: Whoo, that sounds like a that sounds like people going to restaurants and stuff.
- 8:00SPEAKER_08: Anywho.
- 8:02SPEAKER_05: So you didn't go out in the adventure like Waikiki.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: Well, you said you went and did some nightlife stuff for the show.
- 8:10SPEAKER_08: For the show.
- 8:10SPEAKER_08: But you know, we did, and I can't remember the island.
- 8:13SPEAKER_08: We went to one of the islands that's so polluted, like with microplastics.
- 8:20SPEAKER_08: Just the way the the swirls and the and the tides roll into this particular island, it catches all these microplastics to the point where nobody even goes to the island, really.
- 8:31SPEAKER_08: It's just, oh man.
- 8:32SPEAKER_05: We were gonna do that, but then we were just like, let's just have some Mai Ties and get fucked up.
- 8:38SPEAKER_08: Hey, babe, you want to go to Microplastic Island?
- 8:41SPEAKER_08: Nah, not right now.
- 8:42SPEAKER_08: I think, well, I was gonna go make a couple of credit cards.
- 8:45SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 8:46SPEAKER_05: And I charged up to the room there in Microplastic Island.
- 8:51SPEAKER_08: Went flying there just before you landed in Hawaii.
- 8:54SPEAKER_08: Did you have to fill out that card?
- 8:57SPEAKER_08: Did you have to fill out anything?
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: No, but we had to put our bags through and when we left Hawaii, we had to put our bag through an agricultural like search.
- 9:04SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 9:05SPEAKER_05: They were looking for to see if we were bringing back uh smuggling pineapples.
- 9:09unknown: Yeah.
- 9:09SPEAKER_07: Uh we got a it got a guy smuggling pineapples.
- 9:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, pineapple, sir.
- 9:15SPEAKER_07: You step out of line.
- 9:17SPEAKER_07: What's up with all what's what's with all these pineapples?
- 9:21SPEAKER_07: Just a guy with some pineapple.
- 9:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that guy put a glove on, stuck his hand up my hand.
- 9:25SPEAKER_05: Isn't that a mango?
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: That's my intestine.
- 9:29SPEAKER_05: Feels like a pineapple, sir.
- 9:31SPEAKER_05: Oops.
- 9:32SPEAKER_05: You're right.
- 9:34SPEAKER_05: But uh, yeah, we do have a great guest today.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: Uh, we're gonna get to him in a minute.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: I did want to catch up with you as well because you were at the in Johnny Carson's hometown.
- 9:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I was in Norfolk, Nebraska last weekend.
- 9:45SPEAKER_08: I did the Johnny Carson Great American Comedy Festival.
- 9:49SPEAKER_08: That sounds very hardy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's Middle America.
- 9:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_08: It was it was cool, man.
- 9:56SPEAKER_08: Um I flew there Thursday.
- 9:59SPEAKER_08: My show was Friday, so I get there a day early, so I'm thinking I'll just, you know, relax.
- 10:03SPEAKER_08: No, they also had they had magic.
- 10:06SPEAKER_08: It was magic in comedy, which because you know, I forgot Johnny Carson was also a magician.
- 10:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:13SPEAKER_08: So they had a magic show that Thursday night that I went to see, which was, you know, it was good, man.
- 10:19SPEAKER_08: They had a um a mentalist.
- 10:22SPEAKER_08: They had a husband-wife team out of Canada, and this woman, she was on stage, and I guess I know it's a trick, I guess, but brother, she was just people, everybody couldn't have been a plant.
- 10:35SPEAKER_08: You know, and your name is so and so, and you went here and this, yeah, and she was right about everything, about everybody.
- 10:42SPEAKER_08: And that some people say, ah, that's just she just works with a plant.
- 10:45SPEAKER_08: Everybody, I know everybody in there was not a plant, so I don't know what the deal was.
- 10:49SPEAKER_08: Because then even after the show, some people were just walking up to her and asking her, and she was answering their questions.
- 10:55SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 10:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's when I freaked out.
- 10:57SPEAKER_08: What was the husband doing?
- 10:59SPEAKER_08: He mean we mean me and both were sitting there with the shakes.
- 11:05SPEAKER_08: He was asking me, you think she knows about my uh don't?
- 11:08SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 11:09SPEAKER_08: I don't know, but I wouldn't be, I wouldn't stand too close.
- 11:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_08: No, he was uh he was going into the audience and he would pick the people out.
- 11:17SPEAKER_08: So maybe that's the you know, I don't know, man.
- 11:20SPEAKER_08: It was good, they were good.
- 11:22SPEAKER_08: We were all at the same hotel, and then um later they were all eating, nothing else was open to eat but Taco Bell.
- 11:28SPEAKER_08: So they went and and then Jim called me.
- 11:30SPEAKER_08: Hey, we're downstairs if you want.
- 11:32SPEAKER_08: I came down there and chatted with him.
- 11:34SPEAKER_08: Or just listen, listen, that's when I was listening to them tell stories about people stealing bits and all that stuff.
- 11:38SPEAKER_05: How would you like that?
- 11:39SPEAKER_05: You go to a show, you see a mentalist, they blow your mind, and then you stop at Taco Bell on the way home, and she's in there eating a Gordita.
- 11:49SPEAKER_05: Would you be like, oh man, this show is this shoe is full of shit.
- 11:55SPEAKER_05: Does it take away some of the luster?
- 11:57SPEAKER_05: A little bit.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: How did she trick me?
- 12:00SPEAKER_05: Now she's at Taco Bell?
- 12:01SPEAKER_05: Drinking Mountain Dew.
- 12:03SPEAKER_05: Like everybody else?
- 12:06SPEAKER_05: I didn't see that disappointment coming.
- 12:09SPEAKER_05: It's always right around the corner.
- 12:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, always right.
- 12:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_05: Alright, well, we got good stuff coming up.
- 12:14SPEAKER_05: Um we'll take a break and then we'll jump in with our guests.

- 12:58SPEAKER_05: You've been watching the games.
- 13:00SPEAKER_05: I don't know if it's because our uh World Health Organization participation has been cut.
- 13:05SPEAKER_05: All the guardrails are are off.
- 13:08SPEAKER_05: But the World Cup fever is spreading the globe.
- 13:11SPEAKER_05: Maybe you have it yourself.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: We're gonna talk World Cup right now with our expert, Marcelo Balboa.
- 13:17SPEAKER_05: Marcelo, good to see you, man.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Good to see you too, my friend.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: It's been uh it's been a long few weeks here, but we're we're we're getting close to seeing who's eliminated and who's into the next round.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: The good stuff, the good stuff is happening soon.
- 13:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it really is.
- 13:34SPEAKER_05: It seems to be like uh everything that people have asked for, and and not even before we get into the games, are you following like the social media reaction and interaction about um people that are coming to the United States for the first time from South America or Europe and just all the posting and how much they're enjoying being here?
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: You know what I like is the perception that other people have of our country, and then and we've seen a lot of these kind of posts lately of how surprised they are.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: It's nothing like what they've been told or what they see on TV.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: So, this is what we talk about when the World Cup brings a lot of backgrounds together.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, we went out the other day to the Sedidas function, and there were Brazilians, there were Argentines, there were Englishmen, there were Scottish.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Everybody's getting along.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: The uh the fun part about the different cultures that come together is you can see how people live and breathe our sport.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: You know, the passion they have, man.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Look at how many people, how many Argentines were in Dallas.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Look at the Brazilians here.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's I mean, we went to the game the other day with uh with it was Norway and Senegal, and the fun and excitement of the Norwegians and they're rowing and they're cheering, and then at the end of the game, the Senegalese and then there were banter, but it was fun banter, you know what I mean?
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: And they were shaking hands and high-fiving each other.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I I'm so happy that people have come to this country and realize that it's not what they've been told it is, you know.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, they experience it for themselves.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I hope it's a reminder for people that just live here too, like seeing it through this other lens.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_05: Maybe we appreciate more not only like all the different cultures we have here, but you know, it's a we have a beautiful country too.
- 15:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's been fun just watching these guys on Twitter, you know, those be the you know, Buckeys blowing their masks and into a bass pro shop, you know, just seeing uh so it's all good, man.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: It's it's fun.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: And that's listen, I I'm with them.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: I love Buckies.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: I got one like 35 minutes from my house, and uh hey, you know, when you're up that way, you gotta stop in.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: You gotta stop in.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: So yeah, it's funny to see people get all fired up by the arrest stop, but it is a hey, have you had the the chopped beef brisket there?
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: I have not.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: I had the egg sandwich.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: You had the jerky, the jerky wall.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's a lot of choices there.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: I know, I know, I know, but you gotta, you know.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: I can't buy the the Bucky sweatshirt, but I can buy their jerky.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: So I'll buy that.
- 16:14SPEAKER_05: Last time I was in there, they had a mascot walking around.
- 16:17SPEAKER_05: Like you're gonna walk in a shell and get a picture with uh someone dressed up like a shit.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Is it a beaver?
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Is it a beaver?
- 16:24SPEAKER_05: It is a beaver.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Bucky, okay, it is a beaver.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 16:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you'll see it on a jersey soon.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: They'll be sponsoring our national team before you know it.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: I hope they sponsor MLS.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: That'd be awesome to have Buckys on your shirt.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: How cool would that be?
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: That would be awesome.
- 16:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_05: All right, so I want to talk about there's so much to talk about.
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: It it's let's go.
- 16:45SPEAKER_05: Why don't we start with the the USA, right?
- 16:48SPEAKER_05: America Yeah.
- 16:51SPEAKER_05: Looking great.
- 16:52SPEAKER_05: I know um the last uh you know update you gave us they had just opened up with Paraguay.
- 16:59SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 17:00SPEAKER_05: Now they got the win against Australia.
- 17:04SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 17:04SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 17:05SPEAKER_05: What'd you see in that game?
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Uh listen, we knew it was gonna be a difficult game.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: I didn't think that it was one of those games where we were not gonna win.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean, it was gonna take some time to break them down.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: And the own goal, another own goal, take what you can get at this stage of the game.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: And uh they did everything enough.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, the the stadium was crazy.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, I had friends that were there and they were telling me it was ridiculous, the atmosphere there, the environment, everything was very, very set up for U.S.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: to succeed.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: It is a pro-American crowd.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: The U.S.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: has played games there before, the way they support the Seattle Sounders there, so it was probably one of the coolest uh environments that people have said they've been to.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: So um, they did enough.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: You know, they played well, they scored the two goals, and uh, and that's all you need.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: You don't need to, you don't need to overanalyze.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: The important thing in a World Cup game is you won your first two games, that means you clinched first place.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: That means this game against Turkey, you'll probably see a mixture because the four guys that have a yellow card uh probably will not play because if they do get another yellow card, they'll not be able to play in the round of 32.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: So, more than likely, you won't see Tyler Adams, you won't see Chris Richards, you won't see Flo, you won't see quite a few, and and Jedi, you probably won't see that's four changes already.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: I would think you'll probably two more.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: I would say there's a good chance we'll see six new players, six to seven new players on that um on the pitch tonight in LA.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: And I think that's the controversy right now.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: People are talking about do you make that many changes?
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Do you keep the flow going?
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: So, but I would expect six to seven changes tonight for the United States over Turkey.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: You see them having uh trouble with Turkey?
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Um Turkey uh was expected to either come in first or second in the group.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: They've lost both games.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: This is a team that is struggling right now.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: More than likely, their coach who will be fired or released after the World Cup's over, after this game tonight.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: So um I would think a lot of these players are playing for one for pride.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: Uh number two, they're playing for new contracts.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: If somebody sees them, they could be transferred, and that's where you make your money in soccer off transfer fees and and salaries.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: So I would expect, uh, like anything else, you know, a wounded bear is a dangerous bear.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: So I would think that this team's gonna come out to prove a point, but also to try to leave the World Cup with their pride.
- 19:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I I love that they we beat the Aussies, but getting back to that game.
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: It sounds like yeah, sometimes you feel bad too.
- 19:42SPEAKER_05: It's like you just want to party with those people, you just want to hang out with them.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: You know what I've learned with we had a guy, an Australian guy, in the studio, and they're passionate about their team, but uh they're also they also know the game.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: They're very good sportsmen.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: After they lost, they were gracefully enjoying themselves with the Americans, celebrating and enjoying it.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: So I think that it's I think we, you know, it's a game.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: It's a game we love, and it's a game you support your country.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: A win or lose, I think the World Cup's about the culture experience.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: And I think everybody from the Scottish who drank Boston out of all the beer that they could come up with.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: And uh, so now they're in Miami doing the same thing.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: So um I I I gotta say it's been awesome to see how great the fans have been after games, and even if they lose, they're still enjoying themselves and hanging out with each other.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: So that's probably been the coolest thing about this World Cup.
- 20:36SPEAKER_05: So the guy who scored the own goal will be safe to return to their nation because there's some places where you couldn't even go back.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: No, I think that was in the past.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: You know, it's unfortunate what happened in '94 to Escobar.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: He scored an own goal against us, but there's a lot more factors that went into that than just him scoring an own goal.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: That's why, you know what I mean?
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: But uh no, I don't, I don't, I think we're past those times.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: I don't think that uh anything like that's gonna happen.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Known goal is a part of a soccer game.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: It happens.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: I've done it, other people have done it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: So, like I said, it's it's it's a shame that that happened back then, but I don't see us in this world anywhere near that kind of uh situation anymore.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: I was kind of playing around.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: I know, but it's you know what it is, it's a touchy subject for us because we played against him and he scored the own goal, and for a long time they they said the reason why he uh was murdered, I guess you would say, um, was because of the own gulp.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: The the a lot of the people that cartel lost a lot of money and that.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: So it's always been, I think, a little bit of a touchy subject for a lot of us who played in that game.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 21:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I kind of forgot the history.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: I was just going off of just I know, I know, I know.
- 21:50SPEAKER_05: Well the um there there's been some feel good stories in in the tournament.
- 21:57SPEAKER_05: Uh Cape Verde.
- 21:58SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I feel like that is uh a movie maybe.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Uh I would think so.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: I would think so.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Them and even Curacao, you know what I mean, getting the tie the other day.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: So I mean, I think you can look at a lot of, you know, a Congo getting a tie against uh against England, but I would think Cabo Verde is probably the story.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, we gotta wait and see how that chapter finishes, but uh that's that's a very interesting chapter right now when they've gotten the results they've gotten, when their goalkeepers of Ninho went from I think two I think 25,000 followers to over 13 million followers now.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: It's it's absolutely crazy.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: After the first game, after the first game against Spain, he went from that to 13 million viewers or uh followers on Instagram.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: How's that for a feel-good story?
- 22:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
- 22:53SPEAKER_05: So it was thinking about a tournament.
- 22:55SPEAKER_05: No matter what the sport, you play uh put a tournament together, you put these many teams together, there's always a Cinderella, there's always a Dark Horse, and several in this tournament.
- 23:07SPEAKER_05: Who else do you see kind of as a surprise?
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Let me break out my list.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: Um Mexico won all three games.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: That's that's great.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Um, Canada ended up uh in the second, they're in second place.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: They're second in the bracket, which is great.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Morocco's been a little bit of a disappointment.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Um, Australia, I think winning that first game, if they can win today against Paraguay, that could be a probably a pretty good story.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: Um there's a you know, Curacao getting that tie was awesome.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: Um let's see who else could be.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: New Zealand, if they happen to win today.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: They could be the feel-good story to another group that's like that.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: Uh Cabo Verde, you know what I mean?
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Even though they have a tough game, uh, they've got to play Spain.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: So, but you never know what.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's Spain.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: They gotta play um Saudi Arabia.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: So that ought to be an interesting game.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: If they can pull that off, if they can win that, then all of a sudden they're into the next round.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: I think that's probably your feel-good story.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: France is doing what we expected, Norway's doing what they expected, Argentina's doing what they're doing, Portugal, Colombia are doing what they need to do.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: England was a surprise yesterday, tying against Ghana.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: That was, I think, a surprise to everybody, 0-0.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: But I think the story of this tournament right now is if if if Cabo Verde can get out of the group and beat Saudi Arabia today, that will be your that will be your your surprise of the of the World Cup.
- 24:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, we've been talking for quite a while.
- 24:32SPEAKER_05: I feel like we should take a hydration break.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: Don't even, don't even okay, fine.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm with you.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Cheers.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Have a little something to drink there.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: No, that's a touchy subject right now.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: I gotta be honest with you, Pat.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: Um, a lot of people are not liking it.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: A lot of people are disappointed in it.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: The other day, you know, FIFA has a rule that I believe if it's over like 80, 89, or 90 degrees, you stop for for hydration.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: Um, and looking at the statistics of what we've been looking at, I believe either five or six games out of all the games so far have only reached that limit.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: So we're doing a hydration, uh hydration break, and no one's understanding.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: They're getting booed in stadiums, now they're booing.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Uh they've used them for tactical reasons to be able to fix things in the middle of a first half.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Listen, our sport is is one of the purest sports in the world.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: And now you're gonna turn it into, you're Americanizing it into football into four quarters.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: So that's great.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: That's great for commercial breaks, that's great for all those kind of things.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Uh I just read something the other day that I think the the networks are making like$250 million on the D on the hydration breaks.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: But our our game was behind it.
- 25:48SPEAKER_05: That's what's drawing driving it.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: It's not they're saying it's not.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: They're saying it's football reasons.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Well, you created you created a rule that says if it's over a certain degree, then there's a hydration break because of the safety of the players.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: The other day we went and watched Nowhere in Senegal.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: It was raining, it was 70 degrees, 65 degrees.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Why would you need a hydration break for that?
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: So I think it's taken it's taken the rhythm of what our sport is.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: It's taken that away, and I think that's why they're getting booed a lot right now.
- 26:21SPEAKER_05: Why don't they just put it like a drinking fountain in one of the corners?
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: Or just put a hose out there and have it just right on the sideline and then when you're over there, you could do it.
- 26:32SPEAKER_05: They could hydrate in game.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, listen, our bodies are used to playing 45 minutes without getting water.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: So uh, like I said before, it's unfortunate that they've done that.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: The only blessing we have, Pat, is the fact that UEFA came out and said we will not be doing a hydration break in any of the tournaments we do.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: So I think people are starting to get the hint that this was not a great idea.
- 26:57SPEAKER_05: Well, it just gives people an excuse to be like, oh, that's soft.
- 27:01SPEAKER_05: It's not football, like in America.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Well, the good thing is a uh it's not our fault.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: We didn't we didn't do this.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: FIFA did.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: They they thought it was a good idea.
- 27:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, it's um it's just you know fun to make fun of, but it's I'll say this.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: They've had a few players They've had a few players come out already.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Van Dyke came out from Holland and is like it wasn't hot.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: Why were we why are we taking a hydration break?
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: I'm not a fan of it.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: So players are starting to become more vocal about this new rule.
- 27:32SPEAKER_05: Van Dyke from Holland sounds a made-up stereotypical name, doesn't it?
- 27:37SPEAKER_05: I know, I know, but it's not.
- 27:39SPEAKER_05: But it is that's him.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: That's him, one of the best defenders in the world.
- 27:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's fun to see all this talent in um one tournament.
- 27:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it really is mind-boggling to conceive, and the games are not letting us down.
- 27:54SPEAKER_05: Very exciting, and and I do enjoy the side shows as well, the people that are here, you know, experiencing our country.
- 28:01SPEAKER_05: And I know your schedule is crazy.
- 28:03SPEAKER_05: Can you speak to that at all?
- 28:04SPEAKER_05: Like, what are your days like?
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: I'm having a good time.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: When you have a good time, the schedule doesn't matter.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: But today we go in at six, actually, yeah, six o'clock, and we get out at one o'clock.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: So we'll do the games, we'll do recaps, we'll actually do a segment between the U.S.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: games, and then we'll do a post-game at the end of the U.S.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: game.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: So we'll get out tonight around 12 o'clock, one o'clock tonight.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: Tomorrow night, similar, similar.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: The only difference is the games go a little longer, so we get out at 2 a.m.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: tomorrow.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: So, and then I have the next day off.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: So they're they're fun though.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: I get to watch.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: I don't think I've missed a game yet.
- 28:42SPEAKER_05: Are you running into any coaches, players, soccer insiders?
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: No, like we we text, they're at the game.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: Most of them are at the games.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: We're in the studio, so I get a lot of texts from friends that are at games and stuff like that.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: People are pretty quiet this time of year about, you know, coaches and ex-players and current players talking to their friends.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: You try not to bug, uh, you don't try not to bug your friends too much, but I've got a few friends in the media side that I reach out to and uh we can get some good insight from them.
- 29:14SPEAKER_05: That's great, man.
- 29:15SPEAKER_05: Well, I know you are very busy.
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: I appreciate you taking time to jump in with us and looking forward to talking to you after the United States beats Turkey.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: Let's hope.
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: Let's hope, man.
- 29:27SPEAKER_05: Let's hope.
- 29:27SPEAKER_05: Come on, baby.
- 29:28SPEAKER_05: Let's go.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's gonna be great.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: Enjoy the games and uh looking forward to talking to you again soon, Marcel.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: Thanks, my friend.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: Have a good one.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: Alright, take care.
- 29:38SPEAKER_05: Hey guys, quick question.
- 29:39SPEAKER_05: Are you washing your face with the same soap you wash your car with?

- 30:21SPEAKER_05: Thank you for having me.
- 30:23SPEAKER_05: Job, I gotta introduce you, give a little background to everybody listening because uh I I want to start with what I've heard the most about you.
- 30:31SPEAKER_05: That you have run every street, every block, every corner, every nook and cranny of the city of Chicago over a period of time, short period of time when you contemplate it.
- 30:44SPEAKER_05: Um less than two years.
- 30:46SPEAKER_05: He's a Guinness book, what is it, what do you say?
- 30:48SPEAKER_05: Guinness World Record record holder?
- 30:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Guinness World Record holder.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: Couple times over, right?
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, some for stupid stuff, some for more wholesome stuff, but yeah, a couple times.
- 31:01SPEAKER_08: Is that a category like running through Chicago?
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so there's there's a couple couple ones.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Um, so we can jump right into it.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Uh so I hold uh the record for the fastest time to visit every CTA station.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: So it incorporated a little bit of running.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Um every CTA station.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: This is what I want to do.
- 31:21SPEAKER_05: Chicago Transit Authority.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: You hit all of them.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: All of them.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: So just was just itching in your brain, like yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, I'm competitive, so I'm like, let me Who are you competing against?
- 31:34SPEAKER_08: Who held the record before that?
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: So I don't I don't know who it is, but it was 9 hours 15.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: So we had to do it in under 9 hours, 15 minutes.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: We did it in eight hours, 58 minutes, 55 seconds, and we did it in the first snowstorm in Chicago.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: This was crazy.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: But um yeah, it was a crazy day.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: And on foot?
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: Not on foot, so we're on the train.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: So the rules are you have to visit every station uh and you have to the doors have to open at every station, and so you can run like in between the end of the lines.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: So my route was purple line, yellow line, red line, 63rd, green line, and then up to Roosevelt, and then Orange Line, and then I'm not gonna say all of it, it's itched in my yeah, yeah, it's itched in my brain, but yeah, it was it was a crazy day.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I contacted the CTA because we need to gather evidence, we need to film the whole thing, and I contacted CTA and they quoted me$2,000 per train to film, and so they weren't helping out in the attempts.
- 32:35SPEAKER_08: Uh wait a minute, let me get this straight.
- 32:37SPEAKER_08: People in Chicago tried to squeeze you for money.
- 32:40SPEAKER_06: That doesn't that doesn't really sound right.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I I told them like we're not doing a documentary, we're not doing a film, we just need evidence.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: Like, we're doing free promotion for you guys, and they're like, No, that's our basic Guinness World Record breaking rate.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: But um, so there was that, the CTA, and then I did uh fastest half marathon in slides, and that was my half a marathon in slides, like flip-flops, yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: Like, well, there's a separate category for flip-flops, come on.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: Uh like you didn't know that best.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Come on, man.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but so in slides, like actual slides, and you have to like send them like the link to where you bought the slides so they know that it's commercially available and that it's unmodified.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: There's strict rules to this.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I did my fastest ever half marathon.
- 33:36SPEAKER_05: How long is the process from like submitting?
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: And where'd you pick the shoe?
- 33:39SPEAKER_05: What kind of shoes did you get?
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: So I did like some um just some recovery slides that like athletes wear after.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: So it's not like normal slides.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Um, it was actually like the soul was like runners' soul.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: But um yeah, it takes some time like to get the process.
- 33:56SPEAKER_05: Did you train in that?
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: Do you get like get your feet ready?
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, running penny loafers for a week.
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was just out there on the south side just running in slides just in the middle of the winter in the snow.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: It was it looked so silly.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: But but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do, and then uh another one I did was in a full soccer kit.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Fastest half marathon in a full soccer kit.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: So you need to carry a ball, and then you also have to wear cleats as well.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you had to run with a soccer ball, yeah, and then in cleats, in cleats in a full soccer kit.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: And how long did you do that for?
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: So that was a half marathon.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: I did it in an hour 40.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Um, so it was it was quite fast, uh, but my feet were blistered out.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: And then another one was in rain boots, and luckily it was raining, so I didn't look as ridiculous, but my leg was completely shattered after that.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Like you're just in that home thinking like that.
- 34:50SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go after the the rain boots next, I'm gonna run in as a soccer player.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why not?
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why not?
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: And then the most recent one I didn't promise is the last one, uh, was the fastest half marathon in a full body inflatable costume.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: So I it it was it was sweltering, sweltering hot, and I was I spoke to the um marathon organizers and they were like, Okay, so our theme is spring, so what can we do?
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: And so I thought, What's spring?
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: And they suggested a flower, but I don't think there's a full-body inflatable costume for flowers, uh so they were like, Why don't we do an animal that's spring?
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: And so they thought of a bee, and so they bought me a bee for me to wear, and I don't know, but this bee was like 10 foot tall, it was huge, it had wings as well, and it was like the biggest like inflatable costume ever, and so I just ran in it and yeah, I also got a record for that, but yeah, it was it was I heard about that, you got a lot of buzz.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: I was people people I heard so many flipping like things like that yeah throughout the day.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: People were like, oh, be fast, and someone actually were gonna get a lot of serious interactions when you dressed up as an inflatable bee and ran out of the room.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: And it was funny actually because in the middle of the race, someone gave me like a an energy gel, like for me to continue running and have energy, and uh the brand was um honey stinger, and so did you have like a fan in there?
- 36:28SPEAKER_05: Did you have any circulation?
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, with the uh inflatable costume, you just like have a little fan and it constantly like puts air in, and so it's always inflated.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: So if it deflates, like I'm disqualified.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: So it also always has to inflate.
- 36:43SPEAKER_08: How did how did you even come to to know about these kids?
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Did you go through the beginners book and just pick categories or you just look at the website and you just think who's who's stupid enough to do these things?
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Not many people, so you just go ahead and do it.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: And so there's a bunch of records that um they you know.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: Did you love this book as a kid?
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Were you like I loved it?
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: Did you want to be in the book of world records?
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: I loved it, I loved it.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but back in the day it was like more serious.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: Uh like they had like serious records and like for the tallest person, but because they're a business, now it's it's it's silly.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Like, fastest time to drink water from a mug in I don't know, like uh silly stuff like that, you know.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: You can easily come up with something and like not be in the book because they only publish like a set like records in the book.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: I might not be in the book next year, I might, who knows?
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, but you can literally get a world record for nothing.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: But the amount of evidence is is stupid, it's so much evidence, like it takes a lot, it's a big process, yeah, big bureaucracy, like it's a yeah, they take it seriously, they take like silliness seriously, which is fun, but like some records I see on like their page are like, why does this person have like a record, you know?
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: So the fastest time to like pop a hundred balloons by sitting on it, and it's like the person does it, but they're not really that fast.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: But because they went out of their way to collect the evidence, they're the fastest in the world at it.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: So you guys can easily get a record if you want.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Just go to the website.
- 38:12SPEAKER_08: Well, do you know who holds the record for longest time chasing a stolen car?
- 38:17SPEAKER_08: Me.
- 38:18SPEAKER_08: When my car got stolen.
- 38:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_08: A half a block.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Well, if you collect enough evidence, you'll probably what were you dressed as?
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: I was dressed as pissed.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: You can get a record for anything.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: That's what people tell me.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_08: So how many red?
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: How many records do you have?
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: So I have uh currently three and I have four pending.
- 38:43SPEAKER_08: Oh man, so you got more things coming up you're gonna do?
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've I I don't know what, but I think I'm thinking of doing one where I'm dressed as the I'm doing the fastest half marathon dressed as a crossing guard.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: So it's easy.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Easy, easy.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: Like literally what you have to do is What do you wear as a crossing guard?
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: What do you how would you dress?
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: Uh collared shirt, a vest that's high visibility, high visibility hat.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Doesn't even have to be like a builder's one, just a high visibility hat, running shoes, long pants, and a stop sign.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: And are you gonna be working as a crossing guard while you're running?
- 39:22SPEAKER_08: No, you just run.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: Hold on, kids.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: That's actually yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: That could be actually easy to try to maneuver through people because sometimes it can get crowded.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: So I can just hold up my stop sign and coming through, coming through.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but then yeah.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: But it's stupid, right?
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Like, why is that record?
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: So I can break it, that's why yeah.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: But it's so stupid.
- 39:42SPEAKER_05: And I can go on and on and on.
- 39:44SPEAKER_05: And the one that you've gotten most attention for is hitting every street, and this is fascinating, right?
- 39:49SPEAKER_05: Because I'm I'm curious about this.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: How long did it take you to hit every street in our city?
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: So 680 days.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: I'm in the stats with this.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: 680 days, just over 5,000 miles.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: You ran every day for 680 days?
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: I tried, I tried.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: I ran close to 500 days of these 680 days.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: 680 days in total it took me to run the whole city.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: But um yeah, so I started initially because of a mountain accident where doctors told me I needed to start running and just get my blood flowing.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: I played soccer, that's why I did the half marathon record in a full socket.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: That's the first one I did.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, because I was like, I'm just gonna do something that is fun and connects to me, but then I started doing all the other stuff.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: But I play soccer, but you can't really play soccer every day.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Um you have to travel and all that, but you can run every day.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: And so I started running, I started running in the lakefront trail, and with that I thought this is quite boring.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: So I went to a different neighborhood and I found it fun to just go there and change the scenery and change the scenery and just uh chat to different people, see different people then because I live in the loop, I go to school in the loop.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: And so I found it fun and I thought why don't I just run the whole city?
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: So yeah, and so I don't have a car, so with the uh public transport uh transportation I just go to different neighbourhoods or went to different neighbourhoods and just ran in different neighbourhoods and then I thought I just wanna run the whole city.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: No one's ever done it.
- 41:22SPEAKER_05: At what point did you say I'm gonna knock out the entire city?
- 41:25SPEAKER_05: The second run when I went to a different neighborhood.
- 41:28SPEAKER_05: And you started marking it, you had a map.
- 41:30SPEAKER_05: Like how did you do that?
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: I connected it through Stravel, which is just a running app, and it connected to an actual website called City Strides.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: And City Strides is basically an app that helps you track people running every street.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: And so it started from like people doing like just small cities, um like rural areas, which you can knock out in like one or two runs.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: And then there was a guy who did San Francisco, and so he just talked about how that it's so amazing to just see different things and just go everywhere and do the hills at the end of the day.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so it was easy for me in Chicago, but I feel for people in other places like San Francisco.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: And so with that, like there was people doing it in other cities, but uh no one's ever done it in Chicago, and so I just did it in Chicago first person to do it because one, because it's a big city, and two because people view it as dangerous, and this is something we can talk about that people see different areas of Chicago as places you shouldn't step foot in.
- 42:32SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: But I've people giving you advice about where to never step foot, even though they've never stepped foot.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly, because they see the news and things like that, and so I'm originally from Brazil, and so I mean anything that happens in Chicago is like nothing to like the favelas to someplace in Brazil.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: Like I I ran every single street in the city with my phone.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: I was filming myself, I was just there.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I was bored scrolling on the city.
- 42:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you did a lot a lot of social media with this, yeah.
- 43:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:02SPEAKER_05: Glowing up in the social media world.
- 43:04SPEAKER_05: I saw that.
- 43:04SPEAKER_05: I saw that.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I only started filming when I was at 72% of the city complete.
- 43:08SPEAKER_05: And so and word started getting out and words started getting out.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: A lot of people say, oh, like you're safe in the streets of Chicago because uh because I ran within the Chicago flag as a cape.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: Um you're safe because people know you because of the Chicago flag as a cape, and because you're also known on social media.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: I I've been doing this like since I was at zero to 72% without anyone knowing me and without the Chicago flag.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: So it's like I was just a random runner in three running three quarters of the city, and I was safe and I was good.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: Running at all times of day.
- 43:39SPEAKER_05: And you run just with uh any music or just kinda just chill in the zone?
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Depends.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sometimes I try to put music, but it can't be too loud because two of the most dangerous things in Chicago.
- 43:50SPEAKER_05: You put music on to match the neighborhood?
- 43:52SPEAKER_05: Like you do you have polka on when you're going down Milwaukee Avenue?
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Like King Vaughan when I got to Oberlock.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Um no, I mean, so two two of the most dangerous things in Chicago.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: So number one is dogs, especially loose dogs.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Very, very dangerous.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: And two How many incidents with dogs?
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: Not many, but I've nearly gotten bitten like once or twice.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: That'll help you increase your time though.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, I run faster because it's dangerous because I'm I just get so startled because they just bark so loudly, especially in the South Side.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Um and so yeah, dogs, horrible, and cars.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Do you just stereotype dogs?
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: Southside dogs, or yeah.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: I'm talking from experience.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: I'm talking from experience, yeah, yeah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: There's some crazy dogs in the south side.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, and cars.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: Cars are one of the most dangerous things.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: I mean Are you in the street typically, or do you uh if there's a sidewalk, do you take the sidewalk?
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: It depends.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: It depends, yeah.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: I try to be very organized with it, so it's like if the GPS goes wonky, I have to go back to run it again, even though I did run run it, because I don't want any doubts.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so there's like some boulevards where it's like two-sided, so I try to like run, you know, on the street to try to get both sides of the boulevard.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I just do do both sides, even though it's like literally inches apart.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: And yeah, there's there's an art to it.
- 45:20SPEAKER_08: You doing all this by yourself, nobody escorting you or escort.
- 45:24SPEAKER_08: Oh, you know what I mean?
- 45:25SPEAKER_08: Just running, I mean just being there with you, just to look out for you.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, I have friends.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_08: I mean, uh friends, that's what I mean, anybody.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, I have friends, but like sometimes I work long hours.
- 45:38SPEAKER_08: Depending on what what blocks you were running.
- 45:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: I mean on the south side today.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean Where's everybody at?
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I'm running in like crazy hours because of my work schedule.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: So it's like people see me out like sometimes at 12, 1 a.m.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Um just because I work uh.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Oh, you run at one in the morning sometimes?
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: Sometimes, yeah.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: Because like sometimes I do like 12 hour shifts and have that deadline to do.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: And so sometimes What do you do?
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: What's your gig?
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: So I'm a student, but I like right now I was doing child therapy.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: But it's way up north.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: And so it takes like over an hour to get there.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: And so working nine, ten hours, so commuting taking what, three hours?
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: So it's like I need to find the time in the day to to run.
- 46:26SPEAKER_08: Um So you commute to the spot where you're gonna start and then through public transport.
- 46:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 46:32SPEAKER_08: And then I just run.
- 46:34SPEAKER_08: Okay, that in itself is a documentary, just getting to where you gotta run to.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: And so back to the loop, it's horrible to run in because it's busy and also the GPS doesn't really work.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: So it's it's not good.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: But I commute to places and yeah, sometimes it takes hours to commute to places because for example, Hegwish East Side and like farming southeast.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: So far.
- 46:56SPEAKER_05: So how long does it take when you come out to a neighborhood?
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: Um we mentioned my neighborhood, Morgan Park, Beverly.
- 47:03SPEAKER_05: When you went out there, how many times did you have to go out to complete that area?
- 47:08SPEAKER_05: Is that like a ten times?
- 47:10SPEAKER_05: Oh, really?
- 47:10SPEAKER_05: And you do that ten days in a row?
- 47:13SPEAKER_05: Or do you change it?
- 47:14SPEAKER_05: Jump around, you switch around.
- 47:15SPEAKER_05: And you're like, I'm gonna go color this part of the the map, and then I'm gonna go this.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just bounce around.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Like I there's sometimes where there's a train delay and like the train is not coming for like a long time, and so I just look at the map and like I'm just gonna go somewhere else, and I make a quick route, take like 10-20 minutes, and I just go somewhere else.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of like in the flight in the moment.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: At the start I was very inefficient with just doing routes because I was like, I need to complete streets.
- 47:42SPEAKER_05: You need like a staff to start that out.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: It's like a military operation for me it's fine, but yeah, I thought initially I need to run streets.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: You can't run streets because if you run streets, then if you try to complete streets, you're just gonna have to go to different areas and just do the same street twice.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: And so what I thought is I'm not gonna complete streets, I'm gonna complete areas, and then that's gonna lead me to complete uh streets.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: So there's runs where like I did the marathon distances like 40k and I had no street completed.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: And so that's a little bit annoying.
- 48:16SPEAKER_00: But there's other runs where it's like small little like nooks and crannies and like dead ends where you do like a 5k and you hit like so so many streets.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: So it depends on the size of the street.
- 48:28SPEAKER_08: Teach Handley has changed my life.
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're the number one men's skincare routine in America.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: When I got here, they go, uh, we're just waiting for the podcast guest.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: We know you're here for pictures.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: I thought you were a model?
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you guys, he's glowing.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: In fact, Ape Burgati was like, your skin's awesome.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: Just like, I look forward to like, I'm washing my face before I go to sleep.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: I think we haven't had any 40-year-olds on the podcast, and I said, I'm 50.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: And everyone goes, What?
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: T Sh Hanley.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: It's the way we face the day.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: What year did you do this?
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: The with the running through the So I I finished uh June 14, 2026, and I started August 3rd, 2024.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: So wow, I was like, man, good thing.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: Did you ever run into ice?
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 49:16SPEAKER_08: I mean, with hey, that guy's running, and he's from Brazil.
- 49:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, on social media, I think we see uh a lot of stuff like based on how much we see on social media, we think crime is rampant.
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: We also think ice is rampant, like they're in every every alleyway.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and crime is is out there, ice is out there, and there's a lot of things out there, but like for the majority, like uh social media kind of blows things up, you know, um, and the news kind of blows things up because if you're constantly seeing stuff, you think oh this is constantly happening.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: But when you're actually out there, it's like this is normal, like just normal everyday conversations, like no one's gonna like no news source is just gonna put Brazilian man goes to a neighborhood in Chicago, has a good interaction, goes home, goes to sleep.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: No one's gonna care about that, you know.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: But if a Brazilian man goes to a neighborhood in Chicago and something happens to him, then that's gonna make the news.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so negativity always outweighs positivity when it comes to clicks and and the news, which is is just how it is.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: But yeah, throughout my like social media and throughout the show and I've just tried to highlight just positive interactions I've had and I say respect.
- 50:28SPEAKER_05: And what are some of those like along the way?
- 50:30SPEAKER_05: You've met people who come out, they recognize you.
- 50:33SPEAKER_05: Some of them start following you, right?
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like they're seeing out a rock of you, they're running behind you.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: I have I have people who just come just do a block with me.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Maybe maybe you should have done that when you were chasing that car.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: Um but I saw you in the cave.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: Hey, it's super alderman.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, so I mean, there's been plenty of people I've met.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: I I've been to so many neighborhoods where just I've had so many amazing interactions with people, and I I can't post all my interactions with people because there's way too many.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: Um I did a joke video the other day of like this is day one of running every single alleyway in Chicago.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: People actually thought I was being serious.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: I got so many DMs of people being like, When are you gonna be in my alleyway?
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna go to alleyways, like that's impossible to track.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: I can track streets, not alleys.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: But I did that video, um and I was just- You had you'd had rats running alongside you.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: That's what people are saying.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: You can do it! Yeah, and so just everywhere I I go in Chicago, just have fun interactions because if you say hi to people with a smile, even though people like may look like they're having a bad day, or they may not look as friendly, um, or they may not look as they w want to interact with you, people are gonna interact with you if you just go with a smile.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Like nine times out of ten, people are gonna say hi back and it's gonna be a good interaction.
- 51:54SPEAKER_08: That's a cool thing, man.
- 51:55SPEAKER_08: It's that's it's ironic that it would take somebody from another country to show people in the city that they don't have to be afraid of their own city or people in their own city, you know?
- 52:06SPEAKER_08: For sure, yeah.
- 52:07SPEAKER_05: Well, nine out of ten times.
- 52:08SPEAKER_05: Well, you know, I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 52:10SPEAKER_05: There's a ten percent chance you're gonna get stabbed.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Well, no, the ten percent chance that no, like they're not gonna say hi to you, don't think you're gonna get stabbed.
- 52:17SPEAKER_05: No.
- 52:18SPEAKER_05: I have never bought, I lived here, I've never bought the Chicago thing.
- 52:22SPEAKER_05: It's the best city.
- 52:23SPEAKER_05: I travel quite a bit.
- 52:25SPEAKER_05: I think it's safe.
- 52:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, um, I take Western Avenue to get to this podcast every day.
- 52:30SPEAKER_05: I saw that that's a run that you did.
- 52:32SPEAKER_05: You ran our longest street in the city, Western Avenue from start to finish.
- 52:36SPEAKER_05: You did the world.
- 52:38SPEAKER_05: Longest street in the world?
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Continuous street in a city in the world, yeah.
- 52:42SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: We just got that.
- 52:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you knocked that out in a day.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was like one of my first runs.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, just gonna do.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: I wanted to do two things the longest street in Chicago and also the Lake Front Trail.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: So I did that like initially.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: Um it was fine, you could see what the neighborhoods like that it goes through.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: And yeah.
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: The worst runs are the ones where you have to kind of run in highways.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: One of the worst runs I didn't have Highway.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it doesn't really there's some streets that count as as highways.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: Oh like Southwest Highway and that kind of stuff.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: So one of them is O'Hare.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: Um so O'Hare, like the streets around O'Hare don't count.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: However, there's a lot of service roads that count as streets in Chicago.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: And so I did one marathon run at one in the morning.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: I had to do it at one in the morning because there's way too many cars.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: And so sometimes when you're running in highways, it's okay because there's a grass patch next to it.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: You can just run in a grass patch.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: It's not the most comfortable, but it works.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: The problem with O'Hare is that the highway and the roads around O'Hare is grass patch, but it's slanted.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: So you kind of have to run on the street.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: And so it's it's rough.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and if sometimes the cars come, you have to run like slanted in the grass.
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: It's it's horrible.
- 54:00SPEAKER_05: But I did that in in Well, you don't have to, but if you want to run every street Well, you have to run in Chicago, right?
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: Right with the cape on, right, right, you have to do that.
- 54:12SPEAKER_05: You that's what it takes.
- 54:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: Guinness is probably gonna accept the stuff.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: What was the toughest part of running every street?
- 54:19SPEAKER_05: What was the toughest part terrain terrain-wise of the city?
- 54:22SPEAKER_05: Where's the most difficult?
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Everywhere's good because if the pretty flat, yeah, it's pretty grid.
- 54:30SPEAKER_05: So easy.
- 54:30SPEAKER_05: It's kind of easier in terms of the cities in the country.
- 54:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: Chicago Street is flat like our vowels.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know the Chicago accent.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: I can't do the Chicago.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: There's some hills in my neighborhood.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: Don't get me to do it.
- 54:44SPEAKER_05: There's some hills in Beverly Hills.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh Beverly Beverly Hills, yeah.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: That's the name of the neighborhood.
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: I know, I know it's the name of the neighborhood.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: Technically, it's not civil Beverly Hills, Chicago.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, but it's amazing.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of nice houses in Beverly Hills, Chicago.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: And people ask me, like, what's your favorite neighborhood?
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: It's like asking a parent what their favourite kid is.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: You just can't answer that.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: Um what's your least favorite neighborhood?
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Uptown.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: I hate Uptown.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Uptown.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Uptown.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Oh, right out there.
- 55:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:15SPEAKER_00: You said the right thing.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: I I mean people I I try to chat to people in Uptown.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: I've never had like a great, grey interaction in Uptown.
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: People aren't rude, but they just well, they are rude.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: They don't say hi to me.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: You know, like I I run down it and just yeah, I haven't had good experiences in in uptown.
- 55:33SPEAKER_08: And what you just like they just walk past you, just know what are you doing here?
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: No, they just stare at me in the face.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: I do the gentrifying in this neighborhood, sir.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they just stare at me in the face blankly.
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: How many pairs of shoes are you going through when you're doing this?
- 55:49SPEAKER_05: Ten.
- 55:50SPEAKER_05: Ten pairs of shoes.
- 55:51SPEAKER_05: Ten pairs of shoes.
- 55:52SPEAKER_05: What brand were you running with?
- 55:53SPEAKER_05: Any.
- 55:53SPEAKER_05: I just Any?
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, any brand.
- 55:56SPEAKER_00: I just go to the um Outlet store and just buy the cheapest pair and I just run them down.
- 56:03SPEAKER_00: Nobody got wind of it to give you like a sponsorship deal.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: I've gone shoes, yeah.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: I've gone shoes from people.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: Um, but I mean, like in the outlets, like they're like$20,$30.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: For decent decent brands.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: And so yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_05: That's why you went through$10.
- 56:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's why I went through.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: Well, I tried to buy expensive ones, but the same time.
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: No difference in any of these shoes.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: You weren't like, oh, these fit me better.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's more comfortable, but it gets run down the same.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, what's the point?
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna buy the cheaper ones and just go through it.
- 56:36SPEAKER_05: Did you have a policy about like if you ran by a lemonade stand, did you have to stop?
- 56:42SPEAKER_05: Or did you if people were out on the street, like or would you say I have to be running a certain I can only stop for a certain amount of time?
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it it got really difficult towards the end, um, because a lot of people were stopping me because they were recognized me with a cape, so like a lot of times I just took it off because I just wanted to focus on running, because I love to chat to people.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: So like there was sometimes people just stop me and I want to talk to them about the neighborhood, about just anything in general, which is so interesting to hear from people and I just stop for like 30 minutes.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: And so if I'm traveling running and then stopping to chat to people, it takes forever.
- 57:19SPEAKER_00: It takes forever.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: But no, I like in in every neighborhood I always try to like um just support the local businesses.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Like if there's you know, a lemonade stand, I would just try to to go there and just just tip them.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: Um and so yeah, just like seeing seeing people get by um and just being able to to help them get them get by.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: And so yeah, I'll never really go go to these places and like you know go to these big businesses, always try to like support the local ones because it's just it's just good to see people out there and and try to support that.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: So I yeah, sometimes I would happily like promote like these local businesses.
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, there's some people who reach out trying to.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: For example, there was a casino that I that reached out to me and they were like, why don't you run around the casino?
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I'm I'm not gonna do that.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: Like gambling has ruined so many lives.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and take it from me, yeah.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: And I and I and I I don't know.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: You got that right.
- 58:22SPEAKER_05: You're doing some adult therapy now.
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: Uh let's make this a therapy session, but like alcohol and drugs and like gambling.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: I I don't want to promote that.
- 58:32SPEAKER_00: I want to promote like you know, stuff that um is positive and and all of that.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: And though it wouldn't sit right with me to promote something like that.
- 58:41SPEAKER_05: So that's good, man.
- 58:43SPEAKER_05: A lot of guys already trust Tiege Hantley.
- 58:46SPEAKER_05: They've shipped over three million boxes and have more than 24,000 reviews, averaging 4.7 stars.

- 59:15SPEAKER_05: It's all great stuff.
- 59:16SPEAKER_05: And this story inspired a ton of people.
- 59:19SPEAKER_05: Uh huge interest here in Chicago.
- 59:21SPEAKER_05: I saw you got you got a lot of coverage on, you know, on your accomplishment.
- 59:26SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's really yeah, I just kind of wonder like what's next.
- 59:30SPEAKER_05: Are you gonna be are you sticking around Chicago?
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: No, I'm doing, and I want to get ideas from you guys.
- 59:35SPEAKER_00: Um I'm I'm running out of ideas.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: So I'm doing I'm here for another year, and I'm doing a neighborhood series where I basically go into every neighborhood and just talk about the history, talk to the locals.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: And like this guy from North Chicago, he's going to every neighborhood and I ran every street.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: So I I know the areas and I know the But have you done it on rollerblades?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, that that's a new record.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: That's a new record.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_05: We'll spitball it, yeah.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_08: That works for me.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_08: What you're doing is that's great, man.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_08: And it's so simple.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_08: It's just engaging with people, not trying to use them as stunts or as a gimmick, you know, and and just doing something that anybody could do.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_08: Oh man, I could go down to a neighborhood, I could do that myself.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_08: Why haven't I done that?
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_05: Say hi to people.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_05: Say hi to people.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_05: I could say that I could do that.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_08: I won't, but I mean still.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so so with that, like I I never did instigate people, but I also never like film people without their permission.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: So it's like just respecting people.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: If you respect people, people are gonna respect you.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_08: Have you had anybody change their mind, like consent to say, oh man, you can film me this and that, and then at some point, you know what?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_08: I was just thinking about that.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: I don't need any No, because like I I don't reveal people's personal information.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_00: Uh people can say whatever they want.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: Like, I can ask questions like, oh, what's it like living in this neighborhood?
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_00: But I never like you know, just go up to people and just like ask them questions where they would be uncomfortable uh answering.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: And most of the time people want to be in a video, so it's easy for me.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: So they're like, Oh, I want to talk about my neighborhood.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, amazing.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: So it's it's good.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I ask you something uncomfortable.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, do you have a uh skincare routine?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: I actually do, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: Um, because I've done a bunch of videos with Tiege Hanley.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you have done some work with Tiege.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, man.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: You're in the Tiege Hanley studios.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, one we didn't even talk about the uh running around the um L with the um Oh, you chased the L around the loop here.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_05: Raced the L around the loop.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_05: So this is the center of our transit system in Chicago.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_05: You've people have heard probably the loop, but they don't always know what it what it means.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_05: But it's the the loop made by the elevator train downtown.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_05: And you took it on?
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: Yes, I had to do three challenges.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: So uh I had to.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: Uh these are challenges in slides.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's a new challenge running around.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: Hey, if you guys want to do another video, I'm happy to do it.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, with with that, three challenges that I I must and I had to do.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: Uh the first one was I had to get something to wear, second one I had to get a random item, and the third one was a Chicago souvenir, and so I had to go in different stores to get a join on a fret.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_08: Amazing.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: And so my first one was just sunglasses, and then the second one was just T Chanley um skincare that I just applied while I was running, and I went to the store, quickly grabbed it, and that took some time because um in the loop there's some things that are like closed off, so I had to call for like a customer service assistant to come use the key, open it, and I was like, I need to run, come on.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: So I got it, went, and and just continued on running, and then the last one was just uh Chicago souvenir, so it was a hat.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_00: But it was so slow that I just beat it.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: So you still beat the train.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: Still beat the train, yeah.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: With those three challenges.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: I wanted to because I knew if I just ran I could easily beat it.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_05: What time of day was it?
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Early morning.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Early.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so I can just rush hour jaywalk.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_05: Is it a little slower?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: No, it had to be slower.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: I couldn't have cars because otherwise I couldn't, you know, I had to wait for the stoplight.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: Waiting for the stoplight, waiting for the products.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: And then trying to be the trainer, that would be impossible.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: Very random, but no, that's fun, man.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_05: And your skin looks good, you look hydrated.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_08: Well, you run enough, shoot.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_05: You're outside all the time, yeah.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: The wind and the sun, disgusting.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_00: I think the wind is worse.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: It like it makes you look so so odd.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: The sun, not as much, but the wind is brutal.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_05: And easier to run in the winter than the summer?
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: Much easier.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: Because you can like warm up.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: You can't cool down in the summer, you just have to stop.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: And so I just want to keep running.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_08: Now, have you ever thought about doing just like a straight up marathon or half marathon since you like to run so much?
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: I've never done a normal marathon, half marathon.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: I've done ten of them.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: You ain't if they don't have shoes or a costume involved.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: I've done ten of them.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: One which wasn't a record was uh the 13.1, the Chicago Half Marathon.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was amazing, amazing experience because I tried to finish in last place.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: It was a horrible experience.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: You tried to finish in last place?
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it wasn't talk to me.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_00: I could have given you a lot of pointers on that.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: Trust me, trust me.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: It's harder than it sounds because you're walking, you're on your feet.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_00: And the problem with being in last place and just at the back is it's anyone can walk a half marathon.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: But the people in last place, they're battling weight loss, they're battling injuries.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: So it was amazing to just hear these incredible stories.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: Um, why were you trying to finish last?
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_08: Because I can't finish first.
