- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Run right at them, so more the same run run
- 0:22Speaker 3: run yeah, yeah, right at them. Don't try to run
- 0:25Speaker 3: into the alley. Run it right at them.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Favored by six, so really it's three and a half.
- 0:32Speaker 4: INDI by one.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Oh tough one? Ah, what's that? What's that?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Really? No, Fred, Well they're minus two, then plus two.
- 0:40Speaker 5: Well there you go.
- 0:41Speaker 2: No, INDI's plus one. They get three, so they're minus two.
- 0:44Speaker 4: They're at home, so they get three, right, right, So
- 0:49Speaker 4: it's really like they're plus two.
- 0:51Speaker 2: They should be four.
- 0:52Speaker 4: So if you're getting three, that means they're favored by one.
- 0:56Speaker 2: They're not getting it.
- 0:57Speaker 4: They are getting they're giving points. They're favored by one.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Didn't get the three.
- 1:01Speaker 4: If you could have follow the nonsensical three points for
- 1:04Speaker 4: the hotel, what would the spread be if it was neutral?
- 1:06Speaker 2: I drank a whole thing at Gatorade and with my prostate,
- 1:09Speaker 2: it was in me and it had to come out.
- 1:12Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:20Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:24Speaker 2: at Gillette Stadium, and we're talking about the Patriots. I
- 1:29Speaker 2: don't know what that was on Thursday night. I have
- 1:32Speaker 2: kind of an analogy to make about that I'll talk
- 1:36Speaker 2: about later. But we'll talk about that game Thursday night,
- 1:39Speaker 2: what the Patriots need to do to regroup from that,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and we'll talk about the NFL because we had a
- 1:43Speaker 2: weekend off and we got to watch games all weekend,
- 1:48Speaker 2: so we can talk about the state of the league.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't know what if, like the rest of you,
- 1:53Speaker 2: were getting the feeling, but something's weird about the league
- 1:56Speaker 2: this year. I don't know what. I can't put my finger.
- 1:59Speaker 4: On it right fading for a national columnist to come
- 2:01Speaker 4: out with a big expos major injuries on the rise,
- 2:05Speaker 4: which happens now, it's not injuries are not injuries.
- 2:09Speaker 2: It's not the fact that defenses seem to have a
- 2:12Speaker 2: little bit of an advantage right now, unless unless it's
- 2:17Speaker 2: Monday night and it's the Bills, are you know, the
- 2:20Speaker 2: other game, But just something is weird about the league
- 2:23Speaker 2: this year. And I haven't yet put my finger on it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I'll probably able to do that in a couple of weeks.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Do you think, just like outside of Kansas City and Buffalo.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Two big market team being.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Undefeated, and because those pieces feel the same to me,
- 2:35Speaker 5: I mean Kansas City and Buffalo.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Even kids of the city is a little weird this year.
- 2:40Speaker 5: There's a little weird though lately. Like I mean, they're
- 2:43Speaker 5: always good, but they do it kind of different ways.
- 2:46Speaker 5: I mean, I get what you're saying. It's just there's
- 2:47Speaker 5: been a lot of unpredictable results. I think is reflected
- 2:50Speaker 5: in the picks, perhaps again this week, Paul, I don't
- 2:51Speaker 5: know if you talied those up, but.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I have talied you.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Don't want to bring that away another time.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I was not going to give you the results. I'm
- 2:58Speaker 4: just going to tell you it was another terrible week,
- 3:00Speaker 4: yes for all of us.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Some people would call it parody. I would call it
- 3:05Speaker 3: stinking just across the board.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Well, why do you say stinking?
- 3:09Speaker 3: I just think the league offensively is not in a
- 3:12Speaker 3: great place.
- 3:12Speaker 2: What what if you could say defensively it's getting better?
- 3:16Speaker 2: Like why is it that way?
- 3:17Speaker 3: Because I think it's mistakes like quarterbacks throwing bad interceptions
- 3:21Speaker 3: and you know, offensive coordinators not not running good game plan,
- 3:26Speaker 3: smart play calls like we see it here. Like I
- 3:29Speaker 3: just that's the way that I take it now. Josh
- 3:31Speaker 3: Allen will have his day like he always does, like
- 3:34Speaker 3: he did last night, and you know, Daniels look great.
- 3:37Speaker 3: That's good for the league if he's a hit as
- 3:39Speaker 3: a young quarterback. But overall the quarterback play is lacking,
- 3:44Speaker 3: and you.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Don't think defenses have anything to do with that.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Sure a little bit.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I would say, like Minnesota as an example, Brian Flores
- 3:51Speaker 4: is obviously doing something right right. I know, brock Pardy
- 3:57Speaker 4: was caught on a microphone afterwards and you got crazy scheme.
- 4:01Speaker 4: They did the same thing to Stroud. You know, these
- 4:04Speaker 4: are teams that have been pretty successful offensively and that's
- 4:08Speaker 4: the outlier. So Minnesota is obviously doing something. But overall,
- 4:11Speaker 4: I would kind of just say it's it's been up
- 4:14Speaker 4: and down and it's more I think there's you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: right now, there's a good chunk of young quarterbacks that
- 4:20Speaker 4: are learning on the fly, yep, and that's gonna knock
- 4:24Speaker 4: defense down a little I mean, not offense down there.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I mean that maybe that could be anything with practice
- 4:28Speaker 5: time and training camp and that kind of stuff kind of.
- 4:30Speaker 3: That's where I'm coming from. That's saying all I'm coming
- 4:33Speaker 3: from with it. I this is truly September extension of
- 4:37Speaker 3: the preseason level stuff. Offensively, there's just not a whole
- 4:40Speaker 3: lot of rhythm to these offenses right now. And you
- 4:43Speaker 3: watch across the league, and when you don't have rhythm,
- 4:46Speaker 3: you don't have timing down, you don't have chemistry between
- 4:49Speaker 3: quarterbacks and receivers. The line play has been terrible across
- 4:53Speaker 3: the league, not just here in New England, really everywhere
- 4:57Speaker 3: they have offensive line issues. It's to me it goes
- 5:01Speaker 3: back to the summer and teams are doing less and
- 5:04Speaker 3: less and less in training camp and ramping it up
- 5:06Speaker 3: during the season. I mean, the Bengals are zero and three. Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 3: and this is how we're going about it now. I'm
- 5:12Speaker 3: not saying it's better or worse, like I'm sure we'll
- 5:14Speaker 3: get to January and it'll be right back to where
- 5:17Speaker 3: it normally is once they work out some of the
- 5:19Speaker 3: issues early on in the season. But if you want
- 5:22Speaker 3: it to be good football in September, we're not getting that.
- 5:25Speaker 3: On the offensive of it.
- 5:26Speaker 2: But you know, the practice schedules for the off season
- 5:29Speaker 2: and training camp haven't changed in like seven eight years
- 5:33Speaker 2: since the latest collective bargain, you know, so there's gonna
- 5:39Speaker 2: be more and you know Paul's talking about young quarterbacks.
- 5:42Speaker 2: There's like a part of it more than the average
- 5:44Speaker 2: maybe right now that could be part of it too.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And you combine that with less training and yeah, I
- 5:49Speaker 2: don't know, but it just doesn't seem.
- 5:52Speaker 3: No, it seems oft I hear you.
- 5:54Speaker 5: But it's been three weeks too. I feel like it's
- 5:55Speaker 5: going to get back to that point and we get
- 5:57Speaker 5: to November, it'll make a little bit more sense. I
- 6:00Speaker 5: think they're definitely outliers. I mean, you mentioned Cincinnati not
- 6:02Speaker 5: winning a game, and you know Baltimore last week was
- 6:05Speaker 5: kind of up against it, and then they bounce back
- 6:06Speaker 5: and you know, have a big win in Dallas. There's
- 6:08Speaker 5: just some confusing records right now, I think a little bit.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Well, definitely, the records like those are to me, they're
- 6:15Speaker 4: two separate things. Because I agree with you, Mike is
- 6:17Speaker 4: there's some teams that you would have expected to be
- 6:20Speaker 4: better than this. Certainly you wouldn't have thought Baltimore was
- 6:25Speaker 4: kind of fighting for their season, you know, in a
- 6:27Speaker 4: road game at Dallas. But Evan's point about the offense,
- 6:32Speaker 4: I think you've already started to see a little bit.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I thought that the offenses were a little bit more
- 6:36Speaker 4: productive this week. I don't have the numbers. Maybe that's
- 6:39Speaker 4: just anecdotal and I'm way off, but you know, I
- 6:43Speaker 4: Washington's got a rookie quarterback. They haven't punted in two
- 6:45Speaker 4: weeks or turn the ball over, right, you know, so
- 6:49Speaker 4: their offense looks pretty good. They were dynamite last night.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Cincinnati's offense was dynamite last night. Now, all of a
- 6:55Speaker 4: sudden that you have some players back on the field
- 6:59Speaker 4: in jamar Cha t Higgins, and it's amazing how that works. Yeah,
- 7:04Speaker 4: you know, I just watch, like you know, you talk
- 7:06Speaker 4: about the young quarterbacks. Carolina is a dreadfully bad football team,
- 7:10Speaker 4: but all of a sudden they put thirty plus on
- 7:12Speaker 4: the board when they have a quarterback that's actually played
- 7:15Speaker 4: in the league a little bit. And I'm not suggesting
- 7:17Speaker 4: this is proof of why you don't play young quarterbacks.
- 7:19Speaker 4: That's not the argument I'm trying to make, just saying, obviously,
- 7:23Speaker 4: a guy with some experience is going to get more
- 7:25Speaker 4: out of less than a guy with no experiences and
- 7:29Speaker 4: Bryce Young. You know, let's face it, he struggled badly,
- 7:33Speaker 4: he deserved. He might not be good, but he also
- 7:35Speaker 4: just might not be ready.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Because I know a lot of people wanted to equate
- 7:38Speaker 2: that to say the situation. You know, you put in
- 7:43Speaker 2: a better quarterback, assuming Drake May is better than Jakobe Rissette,
- 7:47Speaker 2: and a bad team can all of a sudden be.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Oh, I didn't hear that. I heard everybody saying when
- 7:52Speaker 4: Bryce Young got benched, that was proof that the Patriots
- 7:54Speaker 4: were doing the right thing.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Oh no, no, I heard that. You know, I heard a
- 8:00Speaker 2: lot of things, But one of the things I heard
- 8:01Speaker 2: is a good quarterback can make a bad team better.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And you know Dalton is good enough.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Well I would agree with that premise, but I don't
- 8:13Speaker 4: necessarily see how it correlates to the Patriots.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Well no, but it's what they're saying is, see, Carolina
- 8:17Speaker 2: wasn't that bad. It was all about the.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Quarterback they are. I mean, some of us saw that
- 8:22Speaker 4: win coming, others didn't.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I thought we were all on No.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Oh, I think you know, no need to talk about
- 8:30Speaker 4: this game. There's no need to talk about this game.
- 8:33Speaker 4: We're just gonna move on.
- 8:36Speaker 2: You got it, you got it right?
- 8:37Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, And just to be fair, it had nothing
- 8:40Speaker 4: to do with Carolina, had everything to do with Vegas.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Vegas stinks. And I think that you're just putting Vegas
- 8:45Speaker 4: in with a sharpie against anybody makes no sense at
- 8:47Speaker 4: all to me. They're a terrible team too, They're one
- 8:50Speaker 4: of the dregs. Yeah, terrible is probably strong. They're not
- 8:53Speaker 4: a really good team, let's put it that way. Maybe
- 8:55Speaker 4: maybe they're not terrible.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Sure, all right, so we have to do it. I
- 9:00Speaker 2: know it seems like a long time ago, but this
- 9:03Speaker 2: has been our first regular Patriots unfiltered since that debacle
- 9:08Speaker 2: twenty four to three. And believe me, the score didn't
- 9:11Speaker 2: represent how bad it was for the Patriots. And I
- 9:14Speaker 2: looked at that game. On the it was pretty hug no,
- 9:18Speaker 2: I know, but it seemed more. It seemed like it
- 9:20Speaker 2: should have been more. But I looked at that game
- 9:23Speaker 2: and I was thinking about how badly, how you know,
- 9:27Speaker 2: just dysfunctional the offense was. And I couldn't but think
- 9:31Speaker 2: about that Eagles joint practice. You know it was. I
- 9:35Speaker 2: don't think it was the complete train wreck that that was,
- 9:38Speaker 2: but it was similar where you just couldn't run your
- 9:41Speaker 2: offense because you didn't have any time back there, and
- 9:45Speaker 2: you know, you had the game in Cincinnati. It gave
- 9:47Speaker 2: us some hope. You know, they they played not quite
- 9:51Speaker 2: as good, but you know they went to overtime with
- 9:53Speaker 2: the Seahawks, who you know, they won again, but this
- 9:57Speaker 2: game they felt they fell off the cliff act to
- 10:00Speaker 2: where they were in preseason with this offensive line.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Yeah, the hard part for me was that Andrews and
- 10:08Speaker 5: On when you played terribly, and you can kind of
- 10:11Speaker 5: expect Michael Jordan and Cayden Wallace to struggle picking up
- 10:15Speaker 5: stunts a little bit, like all right, you know that
- 10:17Speaker 5: that might happen, but it just seemed like one of
- 10:20Speaker 5: those games where was now it's your turn to make mistakes. Well,
- 10:22Speaker 5: now it's your turn to make mistake and they.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Just went right around with everybody. This is where I
- 10:26Speaker 2: need to hear from the coaches because they know for
- 10:28Speaker 2: sure was Andrews made to look bad because he was
- 10:31Speaker 2: covering up for other people's mistakes. You know, like sometimes
- 10:35Speaker 2: that happens where all of a sudden, you're not blocking
- 10:38Speaker 2: anyone because somebody screwed up. And you know, I mean,
- 10:42Speaker 2: but I don't know, I don't.
- 10:43Speaker 5: We'll call it when you get run over by Quinn Williams,
- 10:46Speaker 5: you know, like and you know when he was on
- 10:47Speaker 5: the injury report last week, Andrews was it was a
- 10:49Speaker 5: short week, so I mean, I'm not going to totally
- 10:51Speaker 5: kill him for it, but you know, there was one
- 10:53Speaker 5: popular player we've been talking about with him when you
- 10:55Speaker 5: on the first third down where he just lets a
- 10:58Speaker 5: rusher go right through the gap next to him. I mean,
- 11:00Speaker 5: and that's You've heard Jerrod say that all week this
- 11:02Speaker 5: week about we can't have instant pressure in the A
- 11:04Speaker 5: and B gaps and that you know that's the non
- 11:06Speaker 5: starter for this team and for Andrews.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I think Mike makes a really strong point, like there's
- 11:10Speaker 4: a couple of guys. He's a really, really good center,
- 11:13Speaker 4: but there are a couple of guys that have really
- 11:15Speaker 4: given him a hard time. Quinn Williams is one of them,
- 11:17Speaker 4: to Forest Buckner's another. But to Mike's point about his
- 11:24Speaker 4: health going into that game, and I think we all
- 11:26Speaker 4: just assumed he was going to play because he's David Andrews,
- 11:29Speaker 4: and you know those are the kinds of guys. But
- 11:30Speaker 4: I do think there was some uncertainty. I was told,
- 11:33Speaker 4: and I can't think of the guy's name now because
- 11:36Speaker 4: thank you traveled to the game practice squad center. Now,
- 11:42Speaker 4: we know that they've had no confidence whatsoever in their
- 11:45Speaker 4: backup center situation. So the fact that they traveled a
- 11:47Speaker 4: practice squad center tells me they had at least some
- 11:51Speaker 4: percentage of thought that David might not be able to
- 11:54Speaker 4: play in that game.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Sure.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah, they've had a handful of practice squad guys travel.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I know the mammoth guy traveled too.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I don't want to give away too much.
- 12:02Speaker 4: No, it's not, but I'm telling this is what I
- 12:04Speaker 4: was told. This is not from people that were on
- 12:07Speaker 4: the travel party telling you're giving away anything.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Yeah, they've had a few guys in practice squad travel. Mike,
- 12:13Speaker 3: we'll get to your defense in a second. It's not
- 12:17Speaker 3: great offensively. I'm at the point now where I'm starting
- 12:23Speaker 3: to point fingers in other places besides the offensive line,
- 12:26Speaker 3: because the offensive line is what it is like, it's
- 12:29Speaker 3: not good. It's not going to get any better overnight.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Maybe they get some health and they get some pieces back. Well,
- 12:35Speaker 3: they need continuity, Yeah, and they build some continuity and
- 12:38Speaker 3: it improves that way. But your talent on the line
- 12:41Speaker 3: is what it is, especially at the tackle spots. It's deficient.
- 12:44Speaker 3: It's a bad offensive line. At this point, it's it
- 12:48Speaker 3: turns to, well, what do we do to mask it?
- 12:51Speaker 3: What do we do to make up for the fact
- 12:54Speaker 3: that we have a bad offensive line? And that's where
- 12:56Speaker 3: I start pointing the fingers at the quarterback and the
- 12:58Speaker 3: offensive coordinator. Like the court and the play calls that
- 13:01Speaker 3: are being called are just as big of a factor
- 13:04Speaker 3: in the line play as the guys that are actually
- 13:08Speaker 3: making the blocks, and the quarterback getting rid of the
- 13:10Speaker 3: ball in a timely manner is just a big of
- 13:13Speaker 3: a deal as the line play as well. You know, Washington,
- 13:17Speaker 3: and I know we're probably going to talk about this
- 13:18Speaker 3: anyways with Jayden Daniels. Washington coming into the season was
- 13:22Speaker 3: ranked thirty second in the league in terms of offensive
- 13:26Speaker 3: line talent. The Patriots were thirty first. Then all in
- 13:29Speaker 3: the last night, all I hear on Twitter is about
- 13:32Speaker 3: how much better of an offensive line Washington has. In
- 13:35Speaker 3: the Payton offensive line, they have a left tackle, a
- 13:39Speaker 3: rookie left tackle drafted in the third round, one pick
- 13:43Speaker 3: ahead of Caden Wallace. Brandon Coleman from TCU one pick ahead.
- 13:47Speaker 2: But that doesn't make a difference. That has all to
- 13:49Speaker 2: do with scouting. Just because Caanen Wallace was drafted one spot,
- 13:53Speaker 2: that doesn't mean he's as good. He could be terrible,
- 13:56Speaker 2: and the Patriots made a bad pick.
- 13:58Speaker 4: He could be.
- 13:59Speaker 3: But I look at at Cliff Kingsbury in the offense
- 14:03Speaker 3: that they're running with Jaden Daniels, I look at Jayden
- 14:05Speaker 3: Daniels being maybe a stud at the quarterback position, and
- 14:09Speaker 3: then all of a sudden, Washington's offensive line doesn't look
- 14:13Speaker 3: like a complete train wreck. Sure wow, imagine that right?
- 14:17Speaker 3: And I just the Patriots offensive line is bad. Do
- 14:20Speaker 3: you know what also is bad? Running a seventh step
- 14:23Speaker 3: play action drop back with a bad offensive line, or
- 14:25Speaker 3: trying to run a bootleg into an unblocked defender for
- 14:29Speaker 3: the tenth time this season.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Again, seventh step drop is okay as long as when
- 14:34Speaker 2: you drop, you throw it, as long as when that
- 14:36Speaker 2: backfoot hits you get rid of the ball.
- 14:38Speaker 3: It's really hard to seven step drop with a bad
- 14:40Speaker 3: offensive line. Yeah, the quarterback turning his back to the
- 14:43Speaker 3: defense your seventh step. That's a three second play at
- 14:46Speaker 3: the minimum. And if you have a line like this,
- 14:50Speaker 3: they're gonna struggle. So I know Van Pelt has his system.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I know he wants to be an under center team.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I know he wants to run the ball, he wants
- 14:59Speaker 3: to play action off the run game. I'm not sure
- 15:02Speaker 3: that this group can execute the offense that he wants
- 15:05Speaker 3: to run. So, yes, the blocking is horrible. They're the
- 15:09Speaker 3: worst pass protection in the NFL statistically by pretty much
- 15:12Speaker 3: every single measure, pressure rate, pass rush, run weight across
- 15:16Speaker 3: the board. But now it comes down to, well, this
- 15:19Speaker 3: is the cards that you're being dealt. What are you
- 15:22Speaker 3: gonna do with it?
- 15:22Speaker 2: What did you think about after the game? Van Pelt saying,
- 15:26Speaker 2: you know, I basically should have called the game I
- 15:31Speaker 2: called in Cincinnati instead of what we did.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they we played the clip at the
- 15:35Speaker 3: beginning of the show and he's saying, run right at
- 15:37Speaker 3: the Jets, and they didn't run right at the Jets.
- 15:41Speaker 3: They did the opposite. Now that he said that, he
- 15:43Speaker 3: felt like they had earned the right to pass the ball.
- 15:46Speaker 3: But my whole thing is is what the Jets defenders
- 15:50Speaker 3: care about what you did two weeks ago? Like, yes,
- 15:52Speaker 3: some guys are gonna be really well studied and they're
- 15:55Speaker 3: gonna say they ran this blocking scheme against the Bengals
- 15:59Speaker 3: and the second core on first down at so and
- 16:02Speaker 3: so time of the game, that's what they're running again.
- 16:04Speaker 3: And it's not the same thing. But most of the
- 16:07Speaker 3: time in a game, you know, until you see it
- 16:09Speaker 3: against you in a game, like why would you overreact
- 16:13Speaker 3: to a play action play before they've even ran a
- 16:15Speaker 3: run play? Like why would a defense overreact to outside
- 16:21Speaker 3: zone in a bootleg when they haven't even tried to
- 16:24Speaker 3: run outside zone on them yet? Like it, Like that
- 16:26Speaker 3: doesn't compute. I just I feel as though at this
- 16:30Speaker 3: point we have to put some of the blame on
- 16:34Speaker 3: the other pieces in the offense, mainly a quarterback and
- 16:38Speaker 3: offensive line. And I'll just give you one last example.
- 16:41Speaker 3: They are running these plays into defenses where the play
- 16:44Speaker 3: is not going to work, and Jacoby Brissett's coming to
- 16:47Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage and I'm told that he's this
- 16:49Speaker 3: game managing veteran quarterback that's gonna you know, get them
- 16:54Speaker 3: you know, in and out of the huddle and do
- 16:55Speaker 3: all these things at such a high level. And they're
- 16:59Speaker 3: running into blitzing and it's getting blown up in the backfield.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's on the quarterback.
- 17:04Speaker 3: So at what point are we, you know, gonna I
- 17:06Speaker 3: get it, the offensive line is an easy target, But
- 17:09Speaker 3: at what point are we gonna start to think about
- 17:12Speaker 3: what can we change to play around this offensive line?
- 17:16Speaker 3: Because this is not NFL football what they're running on offense.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Okay, I mean I haven't given up hope yet on
- 17:21Speaker 5: the offensive line. I just I mean this would point
- 17:23Speaker 5: the fingerback at the coaching staff, but they have to
- 17:25Speaker 5: get better. I mean, Michael and Winu did not get
- 17:27Speaker 5: paid to sit there and forget what the hell he's
- 17:29Speaker 5: doing and watch a guy run right at the beat
- 17:31Speaker 5: at the first, you know, third down of the game.
- 17:32Speaker 5: David Andrews, Like you said, Paul, it is what it is.
- 17:35Speaker 5: I like Robinson, those guys they need some time. But
- 17:38Speaker 5: I hear what Evan's saying. They have to progress, they
- 17:41Speaker 5: have to get better.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So going back to the quarterback. Yeah, I didn't hear this,
- 17:47Speaker 2: but I heard somebody say that Karen Gerigian was on
- 17:50Speaker 2: over the weekend with somebody and she was being interviewed,
- 17:53Speaker 2: and her reporting had somebody inside saying that in the
- 17:59Speaker 2: film room, Drake made doesn't know what he's looking at. Yeah,
- 18:03Speaker 2: he's not ready mentally.
- 18:06Speaker 4: That would be my hear that. I did not hear it. No,
- 18:09Speaker 4: but I'm you know, I didn't hear Karen say that.
- 18:12Speaker 4: But I'm not terribly.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Saying I could be wrong this. This is not Karen saying.
- 18:16Speaker 2: This is someone saying Karen said it right. So Karen,
- 18:19Speaker 2: if I got it wrong, I'm sorry.
- 18:20Speaker 4: And it might also be, you know, someone told Karen that,
- 18:23Speaker 4: so like it's not like she's in the locker room
- 18:26Speaker 4: in the film room. But I will say the whole
- 18:29Speaker 4: you know, Evan brings up a lot of interesting points,
- 18:32Speaker 4: and I'm this is gonna be weird for me because
- 18:34Speaker 4: you're gonna make fun of me, like I'm gonna be
- 18:36Speaker 4: a little defensive, not necessarily of the entire operation. But
- 18:40Speaker 4: I do think that Jets deserves some credit for Thursday
- 18:44Speaker 4: Night because I think why I said it's going to
- 18:46Speaker 4: be not taken well because I think that no, no, no,
- 18:50Speaker 4: well we're going to get to that in a second.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Your defense might okay, but just to you know, maybe
- 18:56Speaker 4: tie up the bow here on the offensive struggles, I
- 18:59Speaker 4: thought that did a lot of things in this game
- 19:02Speaker 4: defensively that they they're not necessarily known for they were
- 19:08Speaker 4: helped by a lot of the stuff that Evan said,
- 19:09Speaker 4: like they didn't run it right at him, they didn't
- 19:12Speaker 4: try to do what they've done to the first two opponents,
- 19:15Speaker 4: and they sort of played into the Jets' hands. But
- 19:18Speaker 4: to defend Alex van Peltz, I don't know how he
- 19:20Speaker 4: could have foreseen the amount of blitzing the Jets did
- 19:23Speaker 4: when they really hadn't blitzed a tremendous amount before that.
- 19:27Speaker 4: And I thought they not only blitzed, but I thought
- 19:29Speaker 4: they kind of got a little bit.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Cocky.
- 19:33Speaker 4: You know, maybe not exotic isn't the right word, because
- 19:35Speaker 4: most of this stuff was kind of basic, but they
- 19:37Speaker 4: took advantage of a you know, an inexperienced offensive line,
- 19:40Speaker 4: and they fooled them. It wasn't just beating them, like
- 19:43Speaker 4: Kayden Wallace had his hands full, but there were times
- 19:47Speaker 4: where guys were coming in completely untouched because they were fooled.
- 19:52Speaker 4: So I've taken the coaches off the hook for that.
- 19:56Speaker 4: That's coaching. But I'm going to give the Jets some
- 19:59Speaker 4: credit for doing some things and they were allowed to
- 20:03Speaker 4: do them because they can do that knowing they have
- 20:07Speaker 4: Sauce Gardner and DJ read back there and they're not
- 20:10Speaker 4: going to get hurt necessarily by you know, a still
- 20:14Speaker 4: developing group of wide receivers. Can I say that as
- 20:16Speaker 4: politely as I think?
- 20:17Speaker 3: There's no fear of the Patriots throwing the ball down
- 20:20Speaker 3: the field. So when they go under center, teams are
- 20:22Speaker 3: just teeing off like they're being very aggressive. They're blitzing,
- 20:26Speaker 3: run blitzing, and pass blitzing because they just know that
- 20:29Speaker 3: there's no way it's going over the top. So what's
- 20:32Speaker 3: the fear of sending the house here because we're not
- 20:35Speaker 3: going to get beat I just it irks me when
- 20:38Speaker 3: I see these types of mistakes and these breakdowns happen
- 20:40Speaker 3: with unblocked rushers, because this is why I'm being told
- 20:44Speaker 3: Drake may is not playing. I'm being told that he's
- 20:47Speaker 3: not playing because of the film room and because he's
- 20:49Speaker 3: not ready to set protections and he's not ready mentally
- 20:52Speaker 3: to do all these things. Well, neither is this guy.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Like they're rolling the safety down and he's sending a
- 20:57Speaker 3: blitz off the left hand side, he snaps the ball
- 20:59Speaker 3: in anyways and it's blown up in two seconds.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but and you might be right, he may not
- 21:06Speaker 2: know what he's doing. Either, but people who are looking
- 21:09Speaker 2: for the reason to get Drake may in there. That's
- 21:11Speaker 2: not it. I mean, you know, if they're both not
- 21:14Speaker 2: being able to do it, then you might as well keep.
- 21:16Speaker 4: But I would just say, like, yeah, I think that
- 21:19Speaker 4: Cincinnati and Seattle combined for the fewest amount of blitzes
- 21:23Speaker 4: against one team. You know, like the Patriots have been britzed,
- 21:25Speaker 4: blitzed very infrequently in the first two weeks, and then
- 21:28Speaker 4: that kind of changed from a team that hasn't blitzed
- 21:32Speaker 4: a ton. So I sometimes I think the other team
- 21:37Speaker 4: is just overlooking.
- 21:38Speaker 2: What that blitz that is that percentage of dropbacks or
- 21:41Speaker 2: just total blitz It's because they passed more in this game,
- 21:44Speaker 2: so there's more opportunity to blitz.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Game.
- 21:48Speaker 2: In the Jets game, they threw the ball more negligible.
- 21:53Speaker 4: They didn't have the ball.
- 21:56Speaker 2: The first two drives. I think they they threw it
- 21:59Speaker 2: like were out of five out of six plays.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, but it was only it.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Was I'm just saying, like, is the number of times
- 22:07Speaker 2: blitz is a percentage of dropbacks or just total number
- 22:09Speaker 2: of blitzes.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I think it's both.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Percentage of dropbacks. Is the stat that I saw.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's it's a little of both. But
- 22:16Speaker 4: I don't think they threw the ball in incredible amount
- 22:19Speaker 4: of times in this game until Like I mean, especially
- 22:22Speaker 4: with Jacoby present, I'm eliminating the last drive when you
- 22:27Speaker 4: know that that was different the last the Drake May drive.
- 22:31Speaker 4: But during the game, I don't think that they didn't
- 22:33Speaker 4: have the ball, They didn't possess the ball enough to
- 22:35Speaker 4: run any plays.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I just what I keep coming back to with
- 22:40Speaker 3: it is style of play. And I know that we
- 22:44Speaker 3: all want them to run the ball and not be
- 22:46Speaker 3: their identity because it worked in the first couple of
- 22:48Speaker 3: weeks of the season. But I just have a really
- 22:50Speaker 3: tough time imagining that they are going to be able
- 22:53Speaker 3: to block this type of offense where a lot of
- 22:57Speaker 3: their plays where they're trying to push the ball down
- 22:59Speaker 3: the field are He's longer developing play action, bootleg actions,
- 23:03Speaker 3: you know, things like that. Whereas that I think is
- 23:07Speaker 3: fair when you get into the game with a quarterback
- 23:10Speaker 3: like Drake May. As much as we want to throw
- 23:13Speaker 3: away the drive at the end of the game because
- 23:15Speaker 3: it was garbage time, let's also look at how they
- 23:18Speaker 3: played with him in the preseason too. When he played
- 23:21Speaker 3: a little bit and they're in the gun, they're spread,
- 23:25Speaker 3: the ball's coming out faster. You know, he's an athlete
- 23:28Speaker 3: back there, so he can run around when he needs to.
- 23:30Speaker 3: And to me, that type of offense for the personnel
- 23:33Speaker 3: that they have, is going to be a lot more
- 23:35Speaker 3: successful than them trying to to play action pass from
- 23:39Speaker 3: under center. WHI Jakobey were said.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Is it time Mike with the defense? Yeah, so I'll
- 23:45Speaker 4: just I'm going to tee up Mike because I know
- 23:47Speaker 4: Mike is really really disappointed.
- 23:50Speaker 3: He's upset about the defenses. I am about the offense.
- 23:53Speaker 4: We just yeah, we just spent you know, twenty three
- 23:55Speaker 4: minutes talking about the offense, and we're critical of the offense.
- 23:59Speaker 4: They have moved the ball, you know, but so they
- 24:02Speaker 4: deserve the criticism. I don't know how many people thought
- 24:05Speaker 4: it was going to be a whole lot better than
- 24:07Speaker 4: it has been. Like, the offense is what it is.
- 24:09Speaker 4: They had, you know, personnel issues up front at wide receiver,
- 24:13Speaker 4: and you have a veteran journeyman backup starting a quarterback.
- 24:18Speaker 4: So I don't know who thought they were going to
- 24:19Speaker 4: light it up. You thought the defense was going to
- 24:23Speaker 4: keep being every game. Yeah, they had a chance to
- 24:25Speaker 4: win the previous game at the end and couldn't do it.
- 24:28Speaker 4: And this to me was a total system breakdown. They
- 24:32Speaker 4: were outplayed for sixty full minutes by the Jets offense
- 24:36Speaker 4: in this game. And I don't know how many people
- 24:38Speaker 4: envision that.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Would they have been better with Christian Barmore in the
- 24:41Speaker 2: field and Matt jude On on the field, because that's
- 24:44Speaker 2: what people thought that defense was.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I'm talking about last week. I know I'm not going
- 24:48Speaker 4: back to like May no, I know, I'm talking about
- 24:50Speaker 4: this is what people thought. Okay after Cincinnati, all Right, Okay, like, yes,
- 24:55Speaker 4: of course they would be better without Christian Barber, with
- 24:57Speaker 4: Christian Barmour in the lineup. You traded jude on that count.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Okay, you had the pieces early in the spring that
- 25:04Speaker 5: you thought the defense had enough, and you've lost the
- 25:07Speaker 5: key pieces that you didn't have any depth back and
- 25:10Speaker 5: I think everything just kind of came home to roost.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Now.
- 25:12Speaker 5: I'd also just say they didn't look ready to play.
- 25:14Speaker 5: They didn't look like they were ready to replace Jawan Bentley.
- 25:17Speaker 5: I mean, ray Kwa McMillan can only bounce off Braylan Allen,
- 25:21Speaker 5: so many times before you realize he's not gonna be up.
- 25:25Speaker 5: You know, he's not going to be a tackle machine
- 25:27Speaker 5: Mike linebacker that you need. And I mean c J. Mosley,
- 25:30Speaker 5: Fred Warner. I mean you're seeing close up what the
- 25:33Speaker 5: center of the defense needs. And you know, I think
- 25:35Speaker 5: Paul had a good point talking yesterday about julniea seem
- 25:38Speaker 5: a little bit overwhelmed, like you know, he's not going
- 25:40Speaker 5: to really be that guy either, and so you know,
- 25:43Speaker 5: I mean, not a lot of teams have that extra player.
- 25:45Speaker 5: But it was just glaring with those two didn't really
- 25:47Speaker 5: look ready to play. I mean, they think they were
- 25:48Speaker 5: one and two and miss tackles. And then again it
- 25:51Speaker 5: goes back to the point of the Daniel a qualies
- 25:54Speaker 5: of the world, the Jeremiah Farms, the guys that are
- 25:56Speaker 5: journeyman that are not really meant to be every down
- 26:00Speaker 5: impact type players. I mean DeMarcus Covington got asked about
- 26:04Speaker 5: him on what was it on Friday, and I mean
- 26:07Speaker 5: I thought his you know, talking about Daniel Qualley, he's
- 26:10Speaker 5: got a lot to do him in, but this guy
- 26:12Speaker 5: isn't meant to be next to Devon Godshaw on every
- 26:15Speaker 5: single down. So they just don't have the horses. I mean,
- 26:17Speaker 5: they don't have the horse.
- 26:18Speaker 4: And I get Fred's point. I would agree with you know,
- 26:22Speaker 4: you lose Bombo, you lose jude On, you lose Bentley.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I mean that's that's significant. I didn't think and mistackles aside.
- 26:30Speaker 4: I think the mistackles are probably a one off, you know,
- 26:34Speaker 4: Thursday night. All right, I'll give him some of the
- 26:37Speaker 4: I don't. I don't. I didn't like. I don't like
- 26:39Speaker 4: the way the secondary has looked for two weeks now.
- 26:42Speaker 4: I don't like the fact that quarterbacks have been able
- 26:44Speaker 4: to get out of the pocket for two weeks now.
- 26:47Speaker 4: And I don't like the fact that defensive coordinate says
- 26:49Speaker 4: it's not about x's and o's, which is what he
- 26:52Speaker 4: said last Friday.
- 26:53Speaker 2: In other words, we're scheming it right, they're not executing.
- 26:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I mean I'm not.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Pointing to tackling to Yeah, fundament.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Maybe I'm just so browbeating. It's like muscle memory. I'm
- 27:03Speaker 4: so many years of losses around here that were you know,
- 27:07Speaker 4: we didn't like it, but it was we just got
- 27:09Speaker 4: to coach him better, you know, we got to you know,
- 27:11Speaker 4: this is on us. It starts with us. We got.
- 27:13Speaker 4: And it was striking to hear him saying, it's not
- 27:15Speaker 4: about Exis and O's. It was a little about x's
- 27:18Speaker 4: and o's. They did stuff that you weren't expecting, and
- 27:20Speaker 4: they had success with everything they did, So it was
- 27:23Speaker 4: at least a little about x's and o's. It wasn't
- 27:25Speaker 4: just mistackles. Yeah, right, would you agree with them? It
- 27:29Speaker 4: wasn't four hundred yards you know of misstackles, especially.
- 27:32Speaker 5: The execution of keeping them in the pocket, which just
- 27:34Speaker 5: was not you know.
- 27:35Speaker 4: And to your point, Fred, it felt worse. I agree
- 27:37Speaker 4: with you. It felt worse than twenty four points. And
- 27:39Speaker 4: this is only because the Jets made so many mistakes
- 27:41Speaker 4: and they had like seven offensive penalties that they gained.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I just to me, it's an overall lack of
- 27:47Speaker 3: discipline on the defensive side of the ball, and I'm
- 27:51Speaker 3: willing to give it a little bit.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I didn't see giving up no.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Because I a lot of their issues against the Jets
- 27:59Speaker 3: just watching the film back, or self inflicted, and so
- 28:02Speaker 3: I wonder if some of those things can be corrected,
- 28:05Speaker 3: maybe a little bit easier than it appeared on Thursday night.
- 28:10Speaker 3: You know, the discipline pass rush in the keeping the
- 28:13Speaker 3: quarterback in the pocket, for example.
- 28:15Speaker 4: That's correctable. That's correctable.
- 28:17Speaker 3: You know, they're running a lot of scheme rushes because
- 28:19Speaker 3: they don't have judon and they don't have bar more.
- 28:21Speaker 3: So they're running these simulated pressures, they're running stunts, they're
- 28:24Speaker 3: running all sorts of stuff up front to get guys
- 28:27Speaker 3: loose in the pass rush. But in order to do that,
- 28:29Speaker 3: you know, there's usually a guy or two who their
- 28:33Speaker 3: job is simply just to keep the quarterback in the pocket.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Like you got to mirror the quarterback, josh Ucha. You
- 28:39Speaker 3: can't just go inside the tackle when they're running a
- 28:41Speaker 3: blitz on the other side, because Aaron Rodgers is going
- 28:44Speaker 3: to try to escape to your side, So let him
- 28:47Speaker 3: come to you. Don't go to him right and I
- 28:49Speaker 3: with him. I have developing takes. But in general, like
- 28:54Speaker 3: that's what I see a lot of the time. Daniel
- 28:56Speaker 3: Aqualley gets stuck out on the edge because they're running
- 28:59Speaker 3: a stim and like he gets stuck out there. He's
- 29:02Speaker 3: a defensive tackle. He's not used to talk about over
- 29:05Speaker 3: the tackle. Rogers breaks out to the right, hits the
- 29:08Speaker 3: receiver downfield on third down. If you make those plays
- 29:11Speaker 3: on third down, then all of a sudden, you're off
- 29:14Speaker 3: the field.
- 29:15Speaker 7: Right.
- 29:15Speaker 4: I'll tell you what can really concern me. You know,
- 29:18Speaker 4: in everything you guys are talking about X's nose, I
- 29:20Speaker 4: wholeheartedly agree with, and I would also agree that most
- 29:24Speaker 4: of it is correctable. The thing that that stuck stuck
- 29:28Speaker 4: out to me is I've seen in the past the
- 29:31Speaker 4: start of that game a million times, whereas the other
- 29:35Speaker 4: team has a good plan, catches Bill off guard, catches
- 29:39Speaker 4: Steve and the rest of the staff off guard, and
- 29:41Speaker 4: you know, you give up maybe ten quick points, and
- 29:44Speaker 4: then it changes a little bit and it settles in
- 29:46Speaker 4: the game declares, as Bill used to love to say,
- 29:49Speaker 4: and it settles down. There was no adjustment to tie
- 29:53Speaker 4: freaking Conklin just running unabated in the middle of the
- 29:56Speaker 4: defense for seemingly the easiest pitches in ca that I've
- 30:00Speaker 4: ever seen. Some of those were as a result of
- 30:03Speaker 4: Rogers breaking containment in the pocket and extending the play
- 30:06Speaker 4: a little bit, but it certainly looked pretty much by
- 30:09Speaker 4: design that the Jets wanted to do this stuff. Uh,
- 30:13Speaker 4: you know, I would have thought Garrett Wilson would have
- 30:15Speaker 4: never had any opportunity, you know, in the old days,
- 30:17Speaker 4: never had any opportunities to make plays. I thought he
- 30:20Speaker 4: was open pretty much every play that they missed. An
- 30:23Speaker 4: easy touchdown to him would have got called back by
- 30:25Speaker 4: a penalty anyway, on a garbage call on Wilson going
- 30:29Speaker 4: up field before the.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Snap, Gonzales fell down.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, just beat a little shake. He had another
- 30:36Speaker 4: in the red zone where he shook him uh, you know,
- 30:39Speaker 4: for just almost didn't even get a hand on him,
- 30:42Speaker 4: Like I would have thought that kind of stuff would
- 30:45Speaker 4: have been tapered off. As the game went on, and
- 30:47Speaker 4: I didn't really see it change at all until the
- 30:50Speaker 4: Jets decided.
- 30:50Speaker 2: To throttle the fourth the floodgates open and it was
- 30:55Speaker 2: they couldn't stop. They couldn't stop.
- 30:56Speaker 5: And give credit to Aaron Rodgers too, I meant, but
- 31:00Speaker 5: he looked like Aaron Rodgers, comfortable. They never got among Yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 5: he looked great.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I was dead wrong about that. I mean, Aaron Rodgers
- 31:08Speaker 3: in the first two weeks did not look like the
- 31:10Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers they played on Thursday. No, you know, he
- 31:12Speaker 3: looked that looked like MVP, you know, twenty nineteen Aaron Rodgers.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Any silver linings at this point I have won,
- 31:21Speaker 2: but any any silver linings that it.
- 31:24Speaker 5: Was a short week and then they were banged up
- 31:26Speaker 5: and that you know that that that like Con Bentley,
- 31:29Speaker 5: I mean, it's you know that's and honestly, like I've
- 31:31Speaker 5: seen games like this in the past. I've seen the
- 31:33Speaker 5: old Patriots teams have games where they were not on today,
- 31:36Speaker 5: they were not tackling like it was just the simple stuff,
- 31:39Speaker 5: getting off blocks, making plays. So I think some of
- 31:41Speaker 5: the discipline stuff can be you know. I mean, I
- 31:43Speaker 5: look and I like Gonzales has somehow gotten off the rails,
- 31:47Speaker 5: Like I think Christian g Zalez has played six games
- 31:49Speaker 5: and he's going to.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Be a really good player.
- 31:50Speaker 5: He's got a ways to go, but I still feel
- 31:52Speaker 5: he's a silver lining. I don't think he's arrived in
- 31:54Speaker 5: any sense. I'm not gonna that he's anywhere close to
- 31:56Speaker 5: a finished product. But I continue to be enthusiastic about
- 31:59Speaker 5: him and about key On White. But they it feels
- 32:02Speaker 5: a little like twenty twenty on defense, where you just
- 32:04Speaker 5: you don't have impact NFL players on that side of
- 32:08Speaker 5: the ball. You've got a handful of guys trying to
- 32:10Speaker 5: make it work. I mean, I thought the Jets playing
- 32:12Speaker 5: with with Mike Williams targeting Jonathan Jones. I mean it
- 32:15Speaker 5: just makes you realize that maybe Jonathan Jones is best
- 32:18Speaker 5: served he's really kind of a slot corner, Like that's
- 32:20Speaker 5: you know, maybe he's a little bit miscast playing as
- 32:23Speaker 5: an outside corner and really thinking that he's, you know,
- 32:25Speaker 5: an elite outside piece like that. He's entering the last
- 32:28Speaker 5: year of his deal. So I think there are a
- 32:29Speaker 5: lot of questions on the defensive side of the ball,
- 32:31Speaker 5: which you kind of knew they were going to be,
- 32:33Speaker 5: and they shored some of it up this offseason, but
- 32:35Speaker 5: they have to get impact players, especially in the pass
- 32:39Speaker 5: rush up front, to win up front. I mean that's
- 32:41Speaker 5: what stood out to me with the Jets, with Quinn
- 32:43Speaker 5: Williams and the rest of them, they just were playing
- 32:45Speaker 5: at a different level than the Patriots offensive line was.
- 32:47Speaker 5: I mean, they were just all over them. I Mean,
- 32:50Speaker 5: David Andrews was just overwhelmed at times, and you could
- 32:52Speaker 5: tell it's the Jets home opener, Like why did I
- 32:55Speaker 5: overlook that? Like why did I just though that Jets
- 32:57Speaker 5: don't really look that good? Like this is.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Aaron Rodny coming back to the field where he got hurt.
- 33:01Speaker 5: They feel like they've got the pieces now like it's
- 33:04Speaker 5: gonna be a buzzsaw on a short week and we're
- 33:06Speaker 5: missing some of our biggest leaders. You know, I think
- 33:08Speaker 5: I think we should have been a never weathered the storm.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Any any silver linings for you guys.
- 33:12Speaker 4: I like the short week silver lining though.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I like in general just I do think the corrections
- 33:17Speaker 3: on defense are the things on defense are correctable. I
- 33:21Speaker 3: do think they can they can fix some of those things.
- 33:23Speaker 3: And they had some plays on third down where I
- 33:26Speaker 3: thought the initial coverage was decent and they were going
- 33:28Speaker 3: to get home with the pass rush, and then Rogers
- 33:30Speaker 3: would just get out of the pocket and make something happen.
- 33:32Speaker 3: You know, he hits Lazard on a backside crosser. It's like, well,
- 33:36Speaker 3: if he doesn't get out of the pocket and extend
- 33:38Speaker 3: the play, then he probably never finds the backside crosser
- 33:40Speaker 3: because Deetrich wise is bringing him down for a sack. So,
- 33:43Speaker 3: you know, there's little things like that I think are correctable.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Even though the game plan stunk and it didn't work,
- 33:49Speaker 3: you know, getting Pop Douglas going a little bit what
- 33:52Speaker 3: was encouraging. I like how they got him going, some
- 33:54Speaker 3: of the plays that they ran for him. I thought,
- 33:56Speaker 3: we're in neat and in productive, so that can't be
- 34:00Speaker 3: the only thing that you have offensively. But it was
- 34:03Speaker 3: better than it was in the first two weeks with him,
- 34:05Speaker 3: So just once silver lining on offense, I suppose it
- 34:08Speaker 3: would be there.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I know it's kind of crazy to say a team
- 34:11Speaker 2: coming off a four and ten season need to be humbled,
- 34:15Speaker 2: but I think you know, you had the big win
- 34:17Speaker 2: in Cincinnati, you had a game where you probably thought
- 34:20Speaker 2: you'd let get away against Seattle, maybe they were starting
- 34:24Speaker 2: to smell themselves a little bit, and you know, from
- 34:27Speaker 2: the coaching staff on down, maybe this was you know,
- 34:30Speaker 2: a silver lining in the fact that, well, we had
- 34:33Speaker 2: a lot, We're a long way away, we had a
- 34:35Speaker 2: lot of work to do on both sides of the
- 34:37Speaker 2: ball and in coaching, and you know, maybe you know,
- 34:43Speaker 2: after week three, it's not a bad thing to get
- 34:46Speaker 2: humbled a little bit.
- 34:47Speaker 5: You had to feel that games like this might happen.
- 34:50Speaker 5: I mean, just to me, though, is how do you
- 34:51Speaker 5: respond now? And it's not even going on the road
- 34:53Speaker 5: in San Francisco. It's as hard of a follow up
- 34:56Speaker 5: test that you could possibly have. They've got some injury,
- 35:00Speaker 5: but how does this team respond especially you know, defensively,
- 35:03Speaker 5: where I feel like there's an effort thing that that
- 35:05Speaker 5: is obvious out of the gate. And you know, we
- 35:08Speaker 5: did our little preview. It's like, if you don't show
- 35:10Speaker 5: up and tackle and set the edge against this team,
- 35:13Speaker 5: like you're gonna be in for a really long day
- 35:15Speaker 5: against these guys, no matter no matter who's playing.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yep, all right, eight five five pass five hundred is
- 35:21Speaker 2: the ace ticket hotline, web radio at Patriots dot com
- 35:25Speaker 2: is the email address. Okay, so I guess we can
- 35:29Speaker 2: turn it over to the listeners right now unless you're
- 35:32Speaker 2: anything else.
- 35:33Speaker 4: You want to talk about a lot of emails coming in?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, tons of emails, tons of emails coming in,
- 35:39Speaker 2: uh league wide? Anything else you want to just off?
- 35:43Speaker 5: I said to Evan, I'm like freaking Patrick Mahomes and
- 35:46Speaker 5: Josh Allen AFC, Like what's even the point right now?
- 35:48Speaker 5: Like two, why are we even trying? Like these two
- 35:51Speaker 5: guys are so good. I mean, Josh Allen just look
- 35:54Speaker 5: excellent last night, the way they were working the ball around,
- 35:57Speaker 5: the way they use their running backs. I mean, he
- 35:59Speaker 5: just I mean he was just in the zone last night.
- 36:01Speaker 5: I felt like he just couldn't miss like, I he's
- 36:04Speaker 5: been the MVP awesome player.
- 36:07Speaker 4: And if you don't play tight coverage and at the
- 36:12Speaker 4: same time marry that with a lack of a pass rush.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Oh no, that's what happens on defense when Josh Allen,
- 36:22Speaker 4: Sweet Lou, I only want the JAG's coverage.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Was last night the first happen.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Josh Allen had. I mean, like, that's ridiculous.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Sweet Lou was was was man, he was, he was
- 36:36Speaker 4: on it last night. I loved Lewis Riddick. He and this.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I think there's a little something that he's kind of
- 36:43Speaker 4: like like Evan and I with this defensiveness of Josh Allen,
- 36:48Speaker 4: like somehow Josh Allen hasn't won a Super Bowl, so
- 36:50Speaker 4: he sucks now, you know. And it's just like, man,
- 36:53Speaker 4: you're just not watching if you think that that guy
- 36:55Speaker 4: can't play.
- 36:56Speaker 2: You know, you talk about Rogers being able to flick
- 36:59Speaker 2: it out. I mean some of the throws that Allen
- 37:02Speaker 2: had just using his wrist and throwing at thirty yards
- 37:05Speaker 2: down field.
- 37:06Speaker 4: How about the one rolling to his left to Ty Johnson.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Yeah, the touchdown the Kincaid.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 37:12Speaker 4: But he's not suppossed to be able to roll to
- 37:14Speaker 4: his left.
- 37:16Speaker 2: He's yeah, he's He's on another level. Mahomes is on
- 37:20Speaker 2: another level.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Mahomes is a window wide over Well, no, the offense
- 37:25Speaker 3: is a hole at Kansas City is having some issues.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Mahomes a checkdown artist all of a sudden. I mean,
- 37:30Speaker 3: I'm like teasing a little bit.
- 37:31Speaker 4: But well, he has more downfield throws this year than
- 37:34Speaker 4: he did all last year combined, already completely all.
- 37:37Speaker 3: In week one like his a dots like dead last
- 37:39Speaker 3: in the league. Yeah, he's not throwing average depth of target.
- 37:44Speaker 3: I don't care either, five like five point one, five
- 37:47Speaker 3: point two yards?
- 37:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 37:50Speaker 3: I mean, look, it's how teams are playing him, right,
- 37:51Speaker 3: They're playing you know, split safety.
- 37:53Speaker 2: I think he's getting used off some new guys and I.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Think Rice and Worthy of hit some big plays and
- 37:57Speaker 4: people are adjusting, I mean, is off to him.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Championship team to carting out how to win?
- 38:06Speaker 3: The Chiefs? Are they played football exactly like the Patriots
- 38:10Speaker 3: used to play football?
- 38:12Speaker 4: Well, I have a question for all the Chiefs, all
- 38:17Speaker 4: the Chiefs haters, Right, So was that passing appearance on
- 38:21Speaker 4: the Chiefs? Should that have been called in the end zone?
- 38:23Speaker 5: I think it.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Was pretty clear, right, it's pretty clearly. I don't know,
- 38:27Speaker 4: that's just me. I think it was pretty clearly they
- 38:29Speaker 4: interfere with Kyle Pitts in the end zone, right right,
- 38:32Speaker 4: So I'm sure that I'm sure all the people that
- 38:34Speaker 4: that don't believe in passing appearance think that wasn't passing appearance,
- 38:38Speaker 4: because that's what I heard the week before when the
- 38:40Speaker 4: Chiefs got got the call that week too. Right, Oh,
- 38:44Speaker 4: how can you call passing appearance? This incidental contact? No,
- 38:48Speaker 4: it's passing appearance. It should have been called last week
- 38:50Speaker 4: against Cincinnati on Cincinnati, and it should have been called
- 38:53Speaker 4: on Kansas City this week. That was blatant passing appearance
- 38:56Speaker 4: in the end zone and that changes the whole game.
- 38:58Speaker 4: The fountains probably school. They take the lead under five
- 39:01Speaker 4: minutes to go, and my pick would have been right.
- 39:04Speaker 3: On a serious note that it'll comes back to your
- 39:06Speaker 3: snarky about the refsnow offense. That's a terrible they they
- 39:10Speaker 3: you know, they have their games Kansas City where they're
- 39:12Speaker 3: just dominanting, they roll, but these games that are close,
- 39:15Speaker 3: it's like they do just enough on both sides of
- 39:18Speaker 3: the ball.
- 39:19Speaker 4: How similar it is to that and it's like, you know,
- 39:22Speaker 4: how many games did the Patriots just squeaked by because
- 39:25Speaker 4: they made one or two more plays at the end,
- 39:27Speaker 4: they're just in the other team, and it's it's like right,
- 39:30Speaker 4: they're just like conference the week five.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Good offense will force you into mistakes, and mistakes include
- 39:36Speaker 2: penalties like the Patriots used to.
- 39:40Speaker 4: The Kansas City that should have got called for the
- 39:42Speaker 4: penalty the way will in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Uh, he's looking for some silver linings, Paul, Please don't
- 39:51Speaker 2: yell at me any chance more and Taki Taki can
- 39:54Speaker 2: give us a bit of a boost. Also, who is
- 39:56Speaker 2: our best player to be next to Gotshaw on early
- 39:59Speaker 2: downs to off the run?
- 40:01Speaker 4: I got thoughts.
- 40:02Speaker 5: I mean, I think kind of done with Osborne, Like
- 40:06Speaker 5: I just I don't really see it with Osborne. I
- 40:08Speaker 5: think Kendrick Bourne's an easy slide him in. It's a
- 40:10Speaker 5: great question that guy and Taki Taki. I wish I
- 40:14Speaker 5: could say I'm excited, but I just think he's kind
- 40:16Speaker 5: of more of the same, of kind of more a
- 40:18Speaker 5: special teams guy, not a big dog inside, so I
- 40:22Speaker 5: I I have limited expectations. His depth will help, but
- 40:25Speaker 5: I don't know if he's any bit better born.
- 40:27Speaker 4: Should help if he's If he's healthy enough to help,
- 40:29Speaker 4: he will. Who goes? Do you think they would release?
- 40:33Speaker 4: Do you think that they would take Booty or Baker
- 40:36Speaker 4: and put him on the practice squad?
- 40:38Speaker 3: But I think I think Baker's somebody will claim Baker.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I think Kishan Boody to the practice squad. But Bourne
- 40:46Speaker 3: definitely should help. He's their best receiver on paper, Like,
- 40:50Speaker 3: if he's healthy and he's one hundred percent, he's their
- 40:52Speaker 3: best receiver. He's definitely an upgrade Overton.
- 40:55Speaker 4: And I'm with the emailer, I think he will help.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm not trying to say he's a savior,
- 40:59Speaker 3: but he's and help, I would say. And then Taki Taki,
- 41:03Speaker 3: I think you know, there's a chance he's back for
- 41:05Speaker 3: week five. Sounds like he's trending in the right direction,
- 41:09Speaker 3: so maybe he plays.
- 41:10Speaker 5: I'll take him. I mean, I think, you know, when
- 41:12Speaker 5: he first signed, we looked a little bit at him,
- 41:14Speaker 5: you know, playing some defense.
- 41:16Speaker 2: So he can do it a little bit.
- 41:17Speaker 3: It's more of a passing downs, a Mac Wilson type.
- 41:20Speaker 4: I think he's better than Mac Wilson.
- 41:22Speaker 5: But yeah, I think kind of you know, what you
- 41:24Speaker 5: want is a big heavy kind of dude that can
- 41:26Speaker 5: play the run, and.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Because I thought Toby was sort of an underrated jack
- 41:34Speaker 4: of all trades kind of guy who could, who could
- 41:37Speaker 4: do some things. And I think, you know, in the
- 41:40Speaker 4: on the with with that Bentley role, I'm not sure
- 41:44Speaker 4: he's suited for that, And I wonder if they rethink
- 41:46Speaker 4: that and maybe go in a different direction. And where's
- 41:49Speaker 4: the land right may throw he's still playing.
- 41:54Speaker 5: I mean, it's not a bad like kind of area
- 41:57Speaker 5: to think about.
- 41:58Speaker 3: But because I agree totally with Divide, he is definitely
- 42:02Speaker 3: much better playing the week side and just being able
- 42:04Speaker 3: to there and not have to worry so much about
- 42:09Speaker 3: structurally being sound deceptively athletic too. In space, I think, yeah, yeah,
- 42:15Speaker 3: he's much better as a robin than the battle.
- 42:17Speaker 5: It's like getting through traffic and defeating guys and anticipating
- 42:21Speaker 5: getting there early. It's not really his game.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Kelly and salt Lake the idea that the Patriots need
- 42:26Speaker 2: to force Drake into the game because Jaden had a
- 42:30Speaker 2: good game. It's regurgitated bs everyone who watched that game.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Watch Daniels have time in the pocket on Thursday night
- 42:37Speaker 2: against the jetste.
- 42:38Speaker 4: What's a different game than I did.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Then on Thursday night against the jetste missing both starting
- 42:43Speaker 2: defensive ends, the Patriots gave up pressure on over fifty
- 42:46Speaker 2: percent of their plays. Everyone knows experience makes you better,
- 42:50Speaker 2: but being under fire on every passing play is not
- 42:53Speaker 2: going to help develop any quarterback. Daniels is also twenty
- 42:56Speaker 2: four and played five times as much college football as Drake.
- 43:00Speaker 2: He should be farther along.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know who he's arguing with the emailer
- 43:04Speaker 4: because I don't know who said that because Jade and
- 43:06Speaker 4: Daniels played well, you have to play Drake May.
- 43:08Speaker 3: I'm sure that that is a popular opinion.
- 43:11Speaker 4: So I don't know who that argument is with. And
- 43:12Speaker 4: I would agree with the email's premise on that Daniel
- 43:15Speaker 4: should have nothing to do with your decision on May.
- 43:18Speaker 4: I would just counter with Washington's offensive line is terrible.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I watched a good chunk of the game last night.
- 43:23Speaker 4: I watched a lot of their game against Tampa in
- 43:26Speaker 4: Week one, and he got killed. He was forced to
- 43:29Speaker 4: run the whole game because he was under attack. So
- 43:33Speaker 4: don't tell me that he has all day to throw.
- 43:35Speaker 4: I don't care what numbers say. He doesn't have all
- 43:37Speaker 4: data throw. That's a bad offensive line. Maybe it's not
- 43:41Speaker 4: as bad as this one, certainly not as bad as
- 43:43Speaker 4: this one played last Thursday night, but let's not confuse
- 43:48Speaker 4: them for being, you know, this solid offensive line.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess that's the only place that I would
- 43:53Speaker 3: come with it in response, is just Jaden Daniels is
- 43:57Speaker 3: playing behind let's call it a below average offensive line,
- 44:01Speaker 3: maybe not a terrible offensive line, but not a good one.
- 44:04Speaker 3: And he's not broken, like he's he's fine. He gets
- 44:08Speaker 3: hit and he gets back up, and we go back
- 44:10Speaker 3: out there and he plays the next play.
- 44:12Speaker 4: He even how to slide sid last night, you.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Know, last last player or last throw of the game.
- 44:17Speaker 3: He gets cover zero, he has a free runner that
- 44:19Speaker 3: blows him up, and he's talking to Pam Oliver after
- 44:22Speaker 3: the game as the player of the game, like he's fine,
- 44:24Speaker 3: Like he got hit.
- 44:26Speaker 4: I was thinking of when he's got all day to
- 44:28Speaker 4: throw in the pocket. That was an unbelievable throw with
- 44:31Speaker 4: a guy right in his grill.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, time to take a break. My food's here.

- 46:16Speaker 11: This morning, had had a good meeting with the UH
- 46:18Speaker 11: with the team, kind of recap the last three games
- 46:21Speaker 11: and level set on expectations and just told those guys
- 46:25Speaker 11: just like always that you know, we have to continue
- 46:27Speaker 11: to get better. Tried to put some things into perspective.
- 46:31Speaker 11: You know, you know you have a team that's picked
- 46:33Speaker 11: the wind. The super Bowl gets blown out the next week.
- 46:35Speaker 11: Like right now, it's about who can get better the quickest,
- 46:38Speaker 11: and that's just what we have to do. We have
- 46:40Speaker 11: to get back to the fundamentals where we talk about
- 46:43Speaker 11: tackling and running and you know, being able to move
- 46:46Speaker 11: the ball and also takeaway is definitely a huge part
- 46:48Speaker 11: of it. But guys are ready to work, they're excited,
- 46:50Speaker 11: and today it's all about an EP has nothing to
- 46:53Speaker 11: do with anyone else, has everything to do with you know,
- 46:55Speaker 11: self scout and really just working on things that continue
- 46:58Speaker 11: to show up on a game after game basis.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Do you feel like you guys are still searching for
- 47:02Speaker 2: your identity to what.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Kind of team you are?
- 47:05Speaker 11: I think that, you know, I think I don't want
- 47:07Speaker 11: to jump to conclusions because after we control the line
- 47:10Speaker 11: of scrimmage throughout the preseason and also control the line
- 47:12Speaker 11: of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, you know,
- 47:15Speaker 11: the first two games, and then to sit here and
- 47:17Speaker 11: overreact on the third game and controlling the line of scrimmage,
- 47:19Speaker 11: I don't want to do that. I still think we
- 47:20Speaker 11: have a tough, physical football team, and that's my expectation
- 47:24Speaker 11: and that's also their expectations. To go out there and
- 47:27Speaker 11: establish your toughness and then by in the fourth quarter,
- 47:29Speaker 11: hopefully you have a chance to win.
- 47:32Speaker 10: Resetting expectations to the TV today on why is that
- 47:35Speaker 10: born to you and be what were the expectations that
- 47:38Speaker 10: were reset?
- 47:39Speaker 11: Well, yeah, that's a good question, and maybe I misspoken
- 47:41Speaker 11: saying resetting expectations, but just reminding them of what we
- 47:44Speaker 11: said all the way back in the spring of what
- 47:46Speaker 11: type of team that we want to be and you know,
- 47:49Speaker 11: went in on a short week and didn't perform the
- 47:51Speaker 11: way we wanted to, but it was more of a
- 47:53Speaker 11: reminder I probably should have said it that way, or
- 47:55Speaker 11: a reminder of what we said we were and how
- 47:57Speaker 11: we have to play play winning football.
- 48:00Speaker 4: That today's be also other antipas. I mean, you guys
- 48:02Speaker 4: won't be preparing for the.
- 48:03Speaker 11: Forty nine ers, and tis we'll sprinkle a little bit
- 48:06Speaker 11: in there in the forty nine ers. But but once again,
- 48:08Speaker 11: it's about us, and it's a bonus day for us,
- 48:10Speaker 11: and you know, the players are off tomorrow and then
- 48:12Speaker 11: it's a normal week, well normal ish we leave on Friday.
- 48:15Speaker 11: But it's just about the things that continue to show up, uh,
- 48:18Speaker 11: day after day, game after game.
- 48:20Speaker 10: Conversations, three ybers of money we good at game like
- 48:22Speaker 10: take you did say, you know, froll the line of.
- 48:24Speaker 4: Scriverge the first two games. Talked a little bit today
- 48:26Speaker 4: about how the pass today.
- 48:28Speaker 11: Yeah, it's a it's a very you know, upfront conversation.
- 48:31Speaker 11: And you know, I have the relationship and so do
- 48:33Speaker 11: the coaches have their relationship with those guys where you
- 48:36Speaker 11: can be very transparent and open like this isn't this
- 48:38Speaker 11: isn't good enough. You know, I show on one of
- 48:41Speaker 11: my slides this morning was just the picture of a mirror.
- 48:43Speaker 11: And this is our jobs as coaches is to put
- 48:45Speaker 11: the mirror in front of the player's face and remind
- 48:47Speaker 11: them like what it really is. Uh, it's not about
- 48:50Speaker 11: you know, your mom or your brother, your cousins tell you.
- 48:53Speaker 11: You know, it's not your fault. It's all of our fault.
- 48:54Speaker 11: And once again, it starts with me.
- 48:56Speaker 4: You mentioned the importance of turnovers.
- 48:58Speaker 5: I know Kyle Dunder mentioned summer of the emphasis punching
- 49:00Speaker 5: the ball on every play.
- 49:01Speaker 9: Have you seen that same type of effort and what
- 49:03Speaker 9: can you do to start getting those turnovers?
- 49:05Speaker 11: So we've definitely seen that same effort. I would say
- 49:07Speaker 11: as a player, no matter what level you're at, turnovers
- 49:12Speaker 11: coming bunches. That's and that's how it happens. You know,
- 49:14Speaker 11: you get one and then all of a sudden, you
- 49:16Speaker 11: know you're you're getting three here, four here. But they
- 49:18Speaker 11: definitely come in bunches. And you know, my reminder to
- 49:21Speaker 11: those guys is just keep just keep attacking the ball
- 49:23Speaker 11: and and they'll come.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Philosophy on offensive side of bout how you handle fum.
- 49:30Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean that's that's a huge part of it. Look,
- 49:32Speaker 11: it's no secret that you know, Dre's fumbled the ball
- 49:35Speaker 11: three times in three games, and you know, now you
- 49:37Speaker 11: become a target and every single team, not just for Remindre,
- 49:41Speaker 11: but for everyone who handles the ball, Like, we're all
- 49:44Speaker 11: going to be targets until we can show that we
- 49:45Speaker 11: can protect the ball to.
- 49:48Speaker 4: Get the city.
- 49:48Speaker 11: So Jack, Uh, So he'll he'll be out there today, uh,
- 49:53Speaker 11: hopefully moving around a little bit and we'll see. We'll
- 49:55Speaker 11: see how he responds the next day.
- 49:57Speaker 5: If you said you must take that, Kendrick Ford is
- 49:59Speaker 5: making you do press.
- 50:00Speaker 11: He's made in great progress and uh, he's running fast.
- 50:03Speaker 11: He looks good in his routes. We'll just you know,
- 50:05Speaker 11: when he's ready to be out there, he'll be out there.
- 50:07Speaker 10: So if he's healthy, would you expect him to slide
- 50:10Speaker 10: back again as the starting left guard?
- 50:12Speaker 4: Michael Jordan cap, that's fun. I'm not sure.
- 50:15Speaker 11: We'll just have to kind of, I mean, once again,
- 50:16Speaker 11: it's still early in the season and we'll just have
- 50:18Speaker 11: to see how it goes.
- 50:21Speaker 3: Dar he expected to be out there, so he's kind
- 50:24Speaker 3: of stats.
- 50:27Speaker 11: You know, it's interesting. You know, he's he's kind of
- 50:29Speaker 11: been in and out of the lineup all the way
- 50:31Speaker 11: back in the summer, we'll just you know, when we
- 50:33Speaker 11: say we'll work these guys out in individuals like. All
- 50:36Speaker 11: that stuff is good, but you have to see how
- 50:38Speaker 11: they present the next day. I wish I could sit
- 50:40Speaker 11: here and give you a timeline, but I can't. On
- 50:43Speaker 11: that player I do, he'll be out there. I'm not
- 50:48Speaker 11: sure just how much he'll do.
- 50:51Speaker 4: John Greatful this morning, when you were talking about the
- 50:53Speaker 4: past part issues, I think he said, the biggest one
- 50:55Speaker 4: right now is.
- 50:55Speaker 5: Just seeing everything really the same set behind.
- 50:58Speaker 10: Is there a way that you can't say five protections
- 51:00Speaker 10: for those guys or is it really like they just
- 51:02Speaker 10: need to figure it out.
- 51:03Speaker 11: No, it's more about reps. And I feel that you
- 51:06Speaker 11: know the protections that we run. I mean everyone, I
- 51:08Speaker 11: mean a lot of teams run the same protection and
- 51:11Speaker 11: what I show them this morning. Anytime you have a
- 51:13Speaker 11: free runner through the air of the B gap, it
- 51:15Speaker 11: gives a quarterback no chance and we have to be
- 51:18Speaker 11: inside out and all of our protections. And if the
- 51:20Speaker 11: quarterback can see, you know, an edge defender, you know,
- 51:23Speaker 11: being the free player, then he can most of the
- 51:25Speaker 11: time make everyone else right.
- 51:26Speaker 4: But that hasn't been the case here.
- 51:27Speaker 10: And I know you had you know, an early be
- 51:30Speaker 10: gap pressure that got through. But I thinks to the
- 51:31Speaker 10: Black Ones against the Jets where you know Nicol safety
- 51:34Speaker 10: and then a couple of addressers on those boots. I
- 51:36Speaker 10: mean that seems to be problematic as well as there
- 51:39Speaker 10: are one solution of a couple solutions for that.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Well, just the.
- 51:42Speaker 11: Boot play in particular. Sometimes you have protected boots and
- 51:44Speaker 11: sometimes you have unprotected boots. And what I will say
- 51:48Speaker 11: is like you're anticipating a player to do one thing
- 51:50Speaker 11: and sometimes they change that up. It goes back to
- 51:53Speaker 11: you know, those tendency breakers, those guys all the other
- 51:56Speaker 11: teams they self scout as well. So we just have
- 51:58Speaker 11: to get better as a whole. Our screen game has
- 52:00Speaker 11: to get better. We have to continue to run the
- 52:02Speaker 11: ball and and also you know the intermediate passing got
- 52:05Speaker 11: to do a better job with that.
- 52:06Speaker 9: Trying people be curious, like the told you try to
- 52:10Speaker 9: set as a head coach after a game like that one,
- 52:12Speaker 9: how would you describe it as it patients as an urgency,
- 52:15Speaker 9: Like how do you convey to try to convey the.
- 52:17Speaker 11: Message I always tell the guys, you know, win, loser, draw,
- 52:20Speaker 11: we have to be ready to change the page. And
- 52:21Speaker 11: the NFL, especially earlier in the season, is so up
- 52:24Speaker 11: and down. No one really knows who's good who's bad
- 52:27Speaker 11: even when the schedule releases come out. Just because you
- 52:29Speaker 11: were good the past year doesn't mean you're going to
- 52:31Speaker 11: be good this year. And the same thing, just because
- 52:33Speaker 11: you were bad last year doesn't mean you're going to
- 52:34Speaker 11: be bad this year. And so you know, for me,
- 52:37Speaker 11: it's always been about just changing the page and moving
- 52:39Speaker 11: on to the to the next one. And this is why,
- 52:40Speaker 11: you know, we always talk about, especially at the quarterback position,
- 52:43Speaker 11: not getting too high or getting too low, like let's
- 52:45Speaker 11: try to you know, handle winning and handle losses, you know,
- 52:49Speaker 11: the right way and learn from those mistakes.
- 52:51Speaker 3: When it comes to containing quarterbacks and the poppy you
- 52:54Speaker 3: know put defensively, do you feel like that has been
- 52:57Speaker 3: an issue because of scheme related stuff or more like discipline.
- 53:00Speaker 11: Stuff, talking about a combination of the two, and you know,
- 53:04Speaker 11: we as a whole, we just have to do a
- 53:06Speaker 11: better job keeping the quarterback in the pocket. That was
- 53:08Speaker 11: one of the last reminders even where Rogers is, let's
- 53:11Speaker 11: keep this guy in the pocket, and you know, he
- 53:13Speaker 11: just had had free room too many times and we'll
- 53:15Speaker 11: get that corrected.
- 53:18Speaker 3: And now great moments in.
- 53:23Speaker 4: History.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Ashes in Bristol. I don't know Bristol, Rhode Island or Bristol, UK.
- 53:29Speaker 3: And I'm assuming, I'm assuming it's u K.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Why are you assuming that?
- 53:33Speaker 3: Because Ashley is a common name over there, so it's.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Not common here for a male. No, how do you
- 53:41Speaker 2: know it's a male?
- 53:42Speaker 9: I'm guessing because he's written in before and said it's.
- 53:45Speaker 2: A oh okay, so you know, but you know the person.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Why did you just say that.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Oh my god, you always have to make things so difficult.
- 53:52Speaker 2: No, you did, so I know who it is. That's
- 53:54Speaker 2: all you have to say, Derek.
- 54:00Speaker 4: I was with I was with you before. I have
- 54:02Speaker 4: to be with Pop Guns. Friend's right on this one.
- 54:06Speaker 4: All you had to say was, yeah, no, he calls
- 54:08Speaker 4: in all the time.
- 54:09Speaker 2: I know him.
- 54:12Speaker 4: Years to go with because it's a common thing. I
- 54:15Speaker 4: do believe, like you know a little bit more about
- 54:18Speaker 4: the entomology, the whole thing. And all you had to
- 54:21Speaker 4: say was, Ashley writes in all the time. It's it's
- 54:23Speaker 4: a guy.
- 54:24Speaker 3: Even now, I'm with you, Pump anyway.
- 54:27Speaker 4: That's another great moment.
- 54:31Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered eight five to
- 54:34Speaker 2: five pass five hundred is the a sticket? Oh, sorry,
- 54:37Speaker 2: my first mistake. It's the TPX hotline web radio at
- 54:41Speaker 2: Patriots dot com as the email address John and Louisiana
- 54:46Speaker 2: says he wants to stick up for the defense. He says,
- 54:50Speaker 2: it's crazy to hear the defense get sticks and stones
- 54:53Speaker 2: thrown at them this early. To me, what's hurting the
- 54:56Speaker 2: defense is most is our own offense. I don't know
- 55:01Speaker 2: the exact number, but the time of possession is that
- 55:05Speaker 2: in the last two games have been ridiculously lopsided, coming
- 55:09Speaker 2: off and over correct coming off an overtime game, then
- 55:12Speaker 2: being on the field as much as they did against
- 55:15Speaker 2: that level of quarterback Thursday night is an ideal. Paul
- 55:20Speaker 2: go is on me, please and thank you.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll pull it up. But first two games the Patriots.
- 55:27Speaker 4: Domin dominated time possession the first two games.
- 55:29Speaker 3: Correct, it was last week. It was obvious because they
- 55:32Speaker 3: threw the ball to three and out for the first
- 55:34Speaker 3: five No.
- 55:35Speaker 4: I'll give you the reason why they got dominated in
- 55:37Speaker 4: time posision last week because they couldn't get off the
- 55:40Speaker 4: field and the Jets just had scoring drives that took
- 55:42Speaker 4: seven minutes, seven minutes, seven minutes. That has nothing to
- 55:46Speaker 4: do with your offense. When you come out and they
- 55:48Speaker 4: drive all the way down the field, then they get
- 55:50Speaker 4: a penalty and don't score in the first drive, then
- 55:53Speaker 4: they drive all the way on the field, touchdown, all
- 55:54Speaker 4: the way down the field, touchdown. That's not just because
- 55:57Speaker 4: your offense being bad. That was bad defense.
- 56:00Speaker 3: So in the first two weeks of the season, the
- 56:02Speaker 3: Patriots were fifth in the league in time of possession,
- 56:05Speaker 3: Like in the good direction, possessing the ball almost thirty
- 56:09Speaker 3: four minutes a game in the first two weeks of
- 56:10Speaker 3: the season. Obviously last week was was the opposite. But
- 56:14Speaker 3: the first two weeks they possessed.
- 56:16Speaker 5: Those games unfolded the way they needed them to. You know,
- 56:18Speaker 5: they got the lead, they were in it, you know,
- 56:20Speaker 5: and it unfolds well. But I think you're seeing with
- 56:22Speaker 5: the defense now it's the same thing with the offense.
- 56:24Speaker 5: When they're up against it. Can they make the big
- 56:27Speaker 5: play to counteract the turnable or you know, can the
- 56:29Speaker 5: defense make a big stop. And you know, I don't
- 56:31Speaker 5: think they were clutched.
- 56:32Speaker 2: They were missing.
- 56:33Speaker 5: Tackles Rogers had all day they got let him get
- 56:37Speaker 5: outside the pocket.
- 56:37Speaker 4: I mean, there were a number of issues, and just
- 56:39Speaker 4: so you know, like I'm talking about the defense now,
- 56:42Speaker 4: like not every game. I'm not telling you that they
- 56:45Speaker 4: can't get better. I was just a little surprised that
- 56:48Speaker 4: they started the game so poorly and never really improved.
- 56:51Speaker 4: Usually when that happens, there's adjustments that get in you know,
- 56:55Speaker 4: the other team, Yes, exactly.
- 56:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I just wish I could on myself on who
- 57:01Speaker 5: are the guys that are going to emerge or you know,
- 57:03Speaker 5: guys that we haven't seen anything out of, Like everybody
- 57:05Speaker 5: that we're playing on defense, you kind of know what
- 57:08Speaker 5: they are right now. I mean key On White is
- 57:10Speaker 5: an example, and Gonzales of two guys that we don't
- 57:12Speaker 5: truly know how good they're going to be yet. There's
- 57:14Speaker 5: some potential there, but it's just hard to say, like, well,
- 57:17Speaker 5: where's the pass rush coming from? In Week thirteen, I
- 57:21Speaker 5: just I don't see the horses here. I mean maybe
- 57:23Speaker 5: this guy Jammery chrome Chroma. You say, like you know,
- 57:27Speaker 5: that's that's what they're turning over right now. So I
- 57:30Speaker 5: just think I think we kind of buried our heads
- 57:32Speaker 5: in the sand on the defense that week one was.
- 57:35Speaker 2: A little bit fool's gold, right, Yeah.
- 57:37Speaker 5: But I mean I still think they're okay when they play,
- 57:40Speaker 5: you know, all together and they're and they're on. But
- 57:43Speaker 5: it's just when they're not, they're they're going to be
- 57:45Speaker 5: really bad because they don't really have those talent guys
- 57:47Speaker 5: that offset.
- 57:48Speaker 3: They're they're twenty eighth defense, twenty eighth the Patriots, like
- 57:54Speaker 3: blows my mind, Like even when it got bad with Bill,
- 57:57Speaker 3: it was still top ten.
- 57:59Speaker 4: Twenty eleven kind of numbers. Yeah, but and this is
- 58:02Speaker 4: just my point, like it could I'm not telling you
- 58:06Speaker 4: that this is what it is and will always be
- 58:09Speaker 4: this way the rest of the year, like forget about it.
- 58:11Speaker 4: But they gave up well over six hundred yards passing
- 58:14Speaker 4: the last two games combined, so it's not just like
- 58:16Speaker 4: this one off. They dominated Cincinnati in the opener and
- 58:20Speaker 4: have been thoroughly average or worse than the other two games. Like,
- 58:25Speaker 4: they were really really good against the run against Seattle,
- 58:28Speaker 4: so they were able to make it all one dimensional.
- 58:31Speaker 4: They didn't stop anything against the Jets. Braylen Allen looked
- 58:35Speaker 4: pretty good against in that game too. They're also getting shredded.
- 58:40Speaker 4: They've been playing a lot more cover two this year
- 58:42Speaker 4: than in years past, and they've been getting absolutely diced
- 58:46Speaker 4: up in their cover two zones because I don't know.
- 58:50Speaker 4: There's probably a million reasons why for that now, the
- 58:52Speaker 4: biggest one being teams that play a lot of zone
- 58:55Speaker 4: get home with four rushers, and the Patriots aren't one
- 58:58Speaker 4: of those teams that has a defensive line and that
- 59:00Speaker 4: dominates like that. But they've been trying to sprinkle that
- 59:03Speaker 4: in a lot more on early downs and they've just
- 59:05Speaker 4: been getting lit up.
- 59:07Speaker 2: A five five past five hundred is the tp X hotline.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Let's get to some of these calls. Eldred's in North Carolina?
- 59:13Speaker 2: What's up? Eldred?
- 59:18Speaker 12: All right, I'm doing fine too. I'm I just got
- 59:25Speaker 12: it's a talent. Just verge your gifts up. Just what
- 59:29Speaker 12: that is, you know, if you know goody to want
- 59:32Speaker 12: to meet. They got a better roster than what we got,
- 59:35Speaker 12: no doubt.
- 59:37Speaker 2: We said that at the beginning of the season. If Rogers,
- 59:41Speaker 2: we said, if Rogers is Rogers this year, they're gonna
- 59:45Speaker 2: be a handful. They're going to have a possibility to
- 59:48Speaker 2: win the.
- 59:49Speaker 4: A f C East.
- 59:50Speaker 2: That's how good their roster is exactly.
- 59:53Speaker 12: But I'm just you know, I was killing Bill. But
- 59:57Speaker 12: if Wood would be He's did dressing the same wait,
- 1:00:00Speaker 12: and I'm just well, I'm just gonna sit back and
- 1:00:03Speaker 12: just just enjoyed the season and just hope you know,
- 1:00:06Speaker 12: they put up a better fight than they did Thursday night.
- 1:00:09Speaker 12: And that's all I got.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Fellas Okay, thanks, Aldred, Appreciate the call. I mean, that's
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: kind of like, if you're being realistic, that's the that's
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: a good attitude. Just sit back and watch the games,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: understand where we're coming from, where we need to go.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: It's a long way. This is, you know, part one
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: of a new journey with a new coaching staff and
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: a new quarterback.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: And you know, that's a big part of the reason
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: why I want to see Drake may is that because
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: that would improve you know, like right if I were
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: you know, look, I don't think Denver's going anywhere, okay,
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: and I'm not sold at all on Bonnicks, but there's
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: that that they are. Sean Payton obviously believes in them,
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: and you've seen a little bit of a progression, yep,
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: to the point where they he played really well in
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: this most recent game. Like that's something to me. Even
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: if I'm gonna fit there'sh six and eleven or whatever.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: How did he make that progression? How do you think
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: oh by playing oh oh.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: The snort police.
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: He pulled it from Evans twitter last snap.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: I poked the hornet's nest with that one. I knew
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: what I was doing. Did they get mad at I
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: dropped the bomb and walked away on that?
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: But yeah, and again I'm not Please don't take this
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: as being critical of Mayo and Van Pelt for being
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: patient with may I not that you have an idea
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: of what You have a lot more information than we do, right,
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: But I'm just saying to watch. I think people can
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: get behind watching you know, a five or six win
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: team more so than maybe even a seven win team
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: or an eight win team with different quarterbacks. I think
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: there's this a little bit more Mike's point. Mike finds
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: a way to get you know, sort of enthused and
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: excited about a lot of different stuff. And he's right, like,
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: you know, can we get Jalen Polk involved? You know,
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: can do Mario be involved? You know, these are the
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: young guys that are that are part of Leyden Robinson's
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: starting at guard. That's great. You know, maybe Cayden Wallace
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: can move over to the right side and maybe not
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: look as overwhelmed as he did on the left side,
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: and you feel a little bit better about some of
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: those young guys. That's to me stuff to get excited about.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: Like Eldrid said, I think it's good stuff. I just
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: real quick was like that, people don't know who this
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: next team's gonna be, and so at least if Drake
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: May is in there, you know he's going to be
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: part of what's next, and so you're you know, you
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: don't feel like you're just watching a lame duck Patriots
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: team where Polk hasn't really been productive, the rookie offensive
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: lineman have been under siege and getting a lot of criticism.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: There's not a lot of those things to hang your
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: hat on right now if you're a Patriots fan looking
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: to the future. So that's I totally agree with, Like,
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: if May were to get in there, there'll be a
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: new energy of right even, we're gonna get our teeth
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: kicked in, We're gonna do it with this kid, and
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: we're gonna.
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: Make the bar and away. The most enjoyable aspect of
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: the season was the last four minutes of the game
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: when he played Yeah, I'm not I'm not exaggerating.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Wow, Week one was pretty enjoyable.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Okay, well, but that to me is like it was
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: it was a tractor pole week one.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: It was an most enjoyable tractor poll. Okay, that to
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: me the whole I like winning.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: I like winning too, but I like winning with some
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: you know, entertainment.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Value to the points.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: I just don't feel like entertainment.
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: No.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: But I realized the team that we had and like,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: if that's that's wasn't a surprise to me that that's
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: how we had to win a game.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: I didn't say it was a surprise. It was boring. Okay,
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: that's all all.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: Right, No, it's okay. I I just think that the
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: biggest thing, that's my biggest argument for may is just
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: that you're not building towards anything offensively with this group
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: of people of personnel, like with Jacoby and and with
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: the way that they're trying to run the offense with Jacoby,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: and like, there's no Mayo talked at the beginning of
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: the year, and he was realistic. He said, I wish
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: I could come up here and tell you that we're
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: going to make the playoffs and be a contender, but
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: we're not. And he said this year is all about
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: laying a foundation like this to me right now feels
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: like a loss season, Like we're heading towards the lost season.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: No, that's a good point, Evan, And and it kind
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: of boiling my blood as I'm listening to you, because
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: if this, if the offense that they're running right now
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: with Jacoby Brissett is going to be different than the
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: offense that they run with Drake May, then what the
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: hell are we doing. You're not doing a service to anyone.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: You're not doing a service to the lineman, to the
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: receivers who might be part of the future. If we're
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: gonna now shift our offense to a Drake May offense
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: when he comes in, then I got a real problem
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: with that. And then if they're not, then why not?
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Why not?
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: Well, just yeah, you're gonna end the season with it
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: with more questions and answers, right because we're not gonna
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: know what Jalen Polk is, We're not gonna know what
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: Javon Baker is, We're not gonna know what the rookie
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: lineman are because the quarterback and the and the play
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: calling stinks and it's limited, right, So, like you're just
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: not going to learn anything about the team.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: I got to make a call I.
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: Wish you could, And it's been driving me nuts since Thursday.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: It's just like there's no there's no direction with the
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: offense right now. There are directionless on offense. And at
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: least if Drake May was playing that by the end
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: of the season going into twenty twenty five, where you're
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: probably gonna have another high draft pick a boatload of
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: cap space, Like, at least you know where your holes are. Like,
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: what if Kidd and Wallace can play right tackle and
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: then all you need is a left tackle and you
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: don't need bolt tackles. What if Jalen Pulk is a
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: good receiver and we just haven't seen it because they're
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: not getting him the football, Like, you know, I don't
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: have any answers right now of where this team is going, and.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: I don't know, like maybe I'm just getting upset for
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: no reason. But like, if you're not running plays now
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: with Jacoby that Drake May's gonna run, what is Drake
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: May looking at? How do you learn from watching if
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: you're not even watching the type of plays I'm gonna run,
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: you know, So even if Jacoby couldn't do them. At
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: least Drake May could say, Okay, I can see where
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: this play went wrong, you know, for whatever reason. But
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: now and I might be getting upset for no reason.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Maybe I'm totally off here. Maybe this is the offense
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: that they will run.
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: Right, Well, you're making me upteff because I'm thinking it's
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: twenty twenty again. I think it's the second time I
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: brought that year out. But like, what did like what
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: did you take from that year?
- 1:06:09Speaker 12: Right?
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: What did you take from Cam Newton? Like, you know,
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: after last year, You're.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Just that was your two lost lots in a row.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: You're literally two lost years in a row. And then
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: if you go into twenty twenty five without having any
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: of these answers, and that's he's a red shirt rookie
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: at that point, so it's really that's his rookie season
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: essentially too. So now we're really not talking about them
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: really knowing until twenty twenty six.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: It's like I'm just looking at Fred's Paul, you know,
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: the voice of reason, Paul's I never want to be
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: confused with that. It's it's three games and some of
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: these things, you know, was sort of extrapolating because they're concerns,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: you know me, I get concerned about a lot of
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: stuff before this. This is one of the reasons why
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: I wasn't on board with resigning everybody everybody gets a contract,
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: because not everybody is going to be part of the future.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: And I know that for the most part, most of
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: those guys they re signed are young enough to still
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: be here when this team is theoretically ready to So
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: I'm not telling you that they are all terrible moves.
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: They weren't. I just this was part of my reasoning, Like,
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: you signed some guys that are going to play, and
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: do they prevent other guys that are younger and maybe
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: have some potential. And I'm not giving you any specifics.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: I'm just sitting off the top of my head talking
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: everything because.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: They didn't really re sign a lot of guys on offense,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: did they Hunter Henry and Henry and yeah, Bourne's not
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: even playing now, Yeah, and he's not holding anyone back.
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: I just said specifically offense right now. Well, I'm more
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: worried about the defense because the offense is not.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Fixable but under its current state, but now has to
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: do with the offense.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: The offense to me, is all about Drake May, right,
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: so that like, I don't really care that the offense
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: doesn't look good with Jacoby Brissett playing, like I mean,
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: you know what I mean, not caring as what you mean.
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: This is all kind of irrelevant for the big pitcher
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: is defense.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Though it's kind of it isn't irrelevant.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: But what about like again, there's other guys on this
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: offense besides Drake May and they have to be getting
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: ready for the future as well.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: It's not irrelevant. Like if Jalen Polk has a lost
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: rookie season, then.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: Don't but don't take it super literally.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: Okay, I hear what you're saying, but like it is
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: to me, it's a big deal.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: Do you think Jalen Polk can play? Yeah, I think
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: I do. I think he's Choe Myers. Yes, then you know,
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: but I don't know. You see some potential there.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: But I don't know because no one's getting them the football,
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: so I don't know. I don't know what he does
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: at the catch point when he has to, you know,
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: box somebody out. I don't know what he has does
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: with the ball in his hands because he never has
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: the ball in his hands. That's all I don't know.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Like you know, if you could give me on the
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: offensive line, give me Wallace on Andrews, whichever left guard
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: you want to pick from the young guys, and low
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: at left tackle, because that way there, when Will Campbell
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: gets drafted at left tackle, we still have four fists
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: of the line in place for next year.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Well that's that's a you know, you can't blame. That's
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: a lot of injury, has a lot to do.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Robinson played right guard every game, yes, all three right,
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: So so it's been Jordan, Andrews, Robinson a when.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: But Michael Jordan only because of injury.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: But but all four of those guys, I think he's
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: better than City.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: So but whatever, how do I don't know about that?
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: But those four guys have played all three games, right, Yeah,
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: you just had different left had a different left tackle.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: But two of those guys are not in the spots
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: that I want them.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: But when you I totally agree, like Jordan.
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: Shouldn't when you should be playing guard, Jordan should be
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: a backup and on when you should be playing guard.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: So like I can handle losing, what I can't handle
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: is that is building towards nothingness, which is what's happening
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: on the offensive side of the ball right now, they
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: are not building any sort of momentum.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: I just think you took me super literally. I agree
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: with all the points that you making, and we talk
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: about a foundation. The foundation of what the offense to
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: me is all about Drake May's development, and we might
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: not be able to see any of that this year,
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: and I'm accepting that.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: I hope that to take you.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: I know, you know what I mean.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: I know you want to win. I know the ultimate
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: goal is to win. But I hope in our situation
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: the coaches aren't under undue pressure to win football games
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: right now. Right now, the pressure should be to build
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: this team for the future. That should be the pressure.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: But you can make the argument that to help the
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: best way to help build for the future is to
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: win games and win as many games you can and
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: establish a you know, a positive culture.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: But again, if the offense that they're running right now
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: is not the offense that they'll be running when Drake, yeah,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: that's what I'm that's but.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: That's what that's what got my blood, that's what I know.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: That's what cuts you on the phone. But that's what
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: people that were critical of the hire in the first
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: place we're critical of. Does that offensive system best suit
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: Drake May's skill set? Right?
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: I think it can. And you know, they want to
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: run a bulk of the offense from under center. We
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: know that. I don't know right now if they trust
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: Drake May to run it from under center because his
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: footwork and stuff like that is raw. He never did it,
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: never did it at North Carolina. I don't know the
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: answers to that. All I know is is, you know,
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: I watch you know, Washington last night, and I keep
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: going back to them just because they're the most recent
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: team I you know.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Watched with them.
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: It was a pretty impressive.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: But they're running you know, they're talking all over the
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: broadcast about how Cliff Kingsbury told them in their production
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: meeting that they're running a college offense. They are running
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: the LSU offense for Jaden Daniels. And he's in the
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: gun all the time, and he's out there and he yes,
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: sometimes he has to run around and sometimes he takes
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: some hits, and sometimes he's got to be in the
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: option game, in the run game and take some hits.
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: And it's getting he's getting progressively better. You know, he's
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: getting better throwing to the middle of the field. He's
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: getting better running and throwing on the move, and so
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: he doesn't take as many hits like he's improving. And
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: I just look at that and I'm like, even if
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: Washington ends this year with five wins, you can come
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: away from the season saying, well, we got our quarterback,
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: and we know what he's good at, and we know
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: how to build around him, and we're gonna keep stacking
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: pieces around the quarterback and we're in good shape. The
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Patriots with Brissette right now are just a rudder less
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: boat on offense because they're just not laying any sort
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: of foundation of what they're going to be in the future.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: And at some point, you know, it's only week three,
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: you know we're going into week four, but it goes fast,
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: like at some point they have to pick a spot
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: for Drake Made to play, because right now what they're
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: doing on offense just isn't.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: A lot of people are saying, it's the Miami game
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: next week, home home game against Miami. Uh no, toua.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: You know, I don't really understand what Tua has to
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: do with anything.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Well, the score might stay low, so it'll be.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: But who cares what the score is do you think
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: he's ready to play or not?
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: You don't lose hope, you know, it's just like a
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: manageable game. I don't get that he doesn't have to
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: play from behind.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: Is out in front?
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: Not to play from behind him is a big deal. Yeah,
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: because the offensive line when you play from behind, that's
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: a big part of why the pressure rate was more.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: Manageable game.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: It's a big deal. Yeah, I guess I agree.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Put in the easiest situation we can possibly see, so
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: that way we got a good read on what he is.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: I don't know what happened, like so all right, let's
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: let's play it out. Let's play it out. Okay, so
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: they play him against Skylar Thompson or the worst quarterback
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: in the history of the NFL bar none, Tim Boyle,
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: and they win the game. Does he not play the
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: next game when they play a good team? No, of
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: course not so Like, so what are we doing?
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: But at least he's just wait wait, wait, you're putting
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: him into ben bench him again.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: What I'm saying against a tough team, if you.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: Think he's against Miami, if they think he's ready now
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: playing Sunday in San Francisco, like.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: I wouldn't play him against San Francisco just simply just
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: because it's a road game against a mad San Francisco
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: team that's a lot better than you. So I wouldn't
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: put feed him to the Wolves in San Francisco. But
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: once he plays, he played like he's playing, I totally agree.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: Please unless unless he plays so poorly that you have
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: to take him out. But that's no I want. Once
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: he gets in, I want to play him.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: That's it, that Drake may Era begins. That's it, all right,
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: eight five five pass five hundred is the ace ticket hotline.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Good discussion. Let's go to Christian in Virginia. What's up Christian?
- 1:14:29Speaker 7: Hey, guys, that was going good. I gotta say, guys,
- 1:14:34Speaker 7: I'm feeling a little defeated with this last game, and
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: you know, watching the games on Monday, I I just
- 1:14:42Speaker 7: want a real wide receive wide receiver. And you know,
- 1:14:45Speaker 7: I was doing a little research before I called in,
- 1:14:49Speaker 7: and one thing I noticed, you know, living in Virginia,
- 1:14:52Speaker 7: everyone's got scary terry uniforms. And you know, he went
- 1:14:54Speaker 7: crazy last night. He's a third pick. He's a third
- 1:14:58Speaker 7: round draft pick, and I think we can maybe it's
- 1:15:03Speaker 7: hopfbal thinking, but I just wish we could get a
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: guy like that. My question for you guys is, are
- 1:15:10Speaker 7: you guys seeing this is like kind of different, but
- 1:15:14Speaker 7: are you seeing any improvement towards our NFL PA score,
- 1:15:21Speaker 7: because you know, we got F minus last year and
- 1:15:23Speaker 7: I'm wondering if ownership is doing anything to help that
- 1:15:26Speaker 7: to get people coming in next offseason.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good, good question, Christian. I think the
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: answer is yes. They have done a lot of things
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: with like player families and that type of stuff. I
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: know there are plans to build a whole new football
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: facility a couple of years down the road. That's not
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: helping them this year, but it is something that they
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: can sell for the future to an incoming free agent.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: But yeah, they took that seriously and I think they're
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: making a lot of improvements.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Like that said, only the players can answer it, right.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, No, there's visible things that.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: I'm saying they could do them, and the players might
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: think that they're unbelievably good or useless. You spent money,
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: but that's not what we needed. That's not helping us.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: I would also just say, like not to defend any
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: thing with the organization, but the player. The free agents
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: are not not signing here because of the player nflpah
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: of it. Okay, Like, if you give the players the
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: guaranteed money that they want in free agency, they'll come here,
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: regardless of if they're taking care of their kids on
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: game they or not.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: No, I know, but when everything's even sometimes income tax,
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: whether dome or not, facilities.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: I would say factor income tax and location are the
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: only other things that are big factors and free agent
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: decisions like and it just I think that story got overblown.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Is only reason why I say.
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: I think if you extrapolate from that survey what Evan's
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: talking about personnel decisions, I agree that's overblown. I don't
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: think that that's overblown in terms of how players feel
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: about their their facilities. Listen, the perfect example of evans
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: point is Kansas City was behind the Patriots in that
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: it doesn't seem to be hurting their ability to acquire
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: players right will win games. So like it has nothing
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: to do with acquiring talents, is my point. It might
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: have something to do with keeping your talent. Maybe someone
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: who's appending free agent might say, well, I have X
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: to stay here and X to go somewhere else, somewhere
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: else ranked a lot higher in those I'm gonna.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: Go yeah to the Scary Terry point. I was thinking
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: about this last night. So he's a third round pick,
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: and he's obviously an awesome player. He was a third
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: round pick. He went to Ohio State. He's buried on
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: the depth chart at Ohio State and didn't get a
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: lot of opportunities in college. This is there are I
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: believe they'll be less scary terries because the transfer portal
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: is now going to allow Terry McLaurin.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: You don't have to stay on the bench, you don't have.
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: To stay at Ohio State anymore. So players like Terry
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: McLaurin are now transferring out of Ohio State point and
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: going play other places. And now all of a sudden,
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: that player is popping in another school.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: But that's good for the NFL, I think. So you
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: got a better look at place.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: You know, who was really high on Scary Terry coming
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: out in that draft? That eric no think about someone
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: who talks incessantly about wide receivers. Eldrick Eldrick Eldred.
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: Loved I remember that one Gunner tape was a big
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: deal because you know, released, getting off the line of
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: scrimmage and releasing and stuff like that's.
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: Translatable stunt builded and get him there.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, he was a really good gunner.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: Brian Thomas looked pretty good to me last night, just
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: the ways move.
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: He was a good prospect.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: L su right, Brian Thomas the other he was the
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: other guy with you, a boy who.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: Was just a machine.
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: It's the same thing, though, I said, though, like watching
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: him last night, I'm like, this doesn't look like the
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: guy I remember watching last spring. Like it until I
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: see them on a field in an NFL game, I
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: don't feel like you truly because he looks like I
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: know he was.
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: Fast, but I don't just see like the touchdown he
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: caught in Week one where he's on the back line
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: of the end zone and just so effortlessly like toe
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: taps catches it smooth, like he's done it all his life,
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: which I'm sure he has.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, TPX Hotline Patty's inn Aga, Hey Patty, he got it.
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: I'm in much better shit than I was on Thursday
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: night calling.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, you didn't sound good?
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: Oh did you.
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: Did a wellness check on?
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: I disagree with you on one thing too, Tim Boyle
- 1:19:46Speaker 6: is not the worst quarterback in the history of the league.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: We had the worst quarterback. He wore number twelve and
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: his name was Jeff Carlton back in ninety two. I
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: don't know if you remember it, but he was terrible.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: I bet you Jeff Carlson was a better college quarterback
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: than Tim Boyle was.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: Yeah, probably, but it's awesome. Atics a couple of questions.
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: The first one really easy one. Do you think the
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: offense looks a little bit better when Kendrick Boren is healthy?
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: Because at least Darie'll have with him and to Mario
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: a couple guys that can actually separate from one on
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: one coverage. And do you think there's anybody at a
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: left tackle scrap heap that we can get on this team?
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: So we're not playing guys out of position Like I
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: I'm willing to live with for Darian Low for the
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: rest of the season. Left tackles the healthy. But I was, like,
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: like Evan said, like like Bartha said, I mean, Kayden
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: Lawless is to the right tackle. Put him at right
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: tackle if he can grow, and just be done with that.
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: And hopefully, you know, we suck bad enough that we
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: can get one of these top two tackles Banks or
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: for the kids. I can't I blanket on the kid
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: from Meloss's name, but that's.
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: The left tackle scrap heap. Would you guys be opposed
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: to one of those at this point? No, like Donovan Smith.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: I'm surprised they haven't called Donovan Smith and I I
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: wonder if they have. And he was like, why will
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: Fanks go play there? Like if he gets called by
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: Kansas City because they you know, they're trying out Smu
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: Matia and Wanya Morris and it hasn't been great with
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: either one of those guys. Maybe they call back, you know,
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: around Thanksgiving and or like, why don't you come play
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: the end of the year with us? Then maybe he would,
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: but that I look at those guys Humphries Leno, you know, like,
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: why would they come play for four or five win
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: football team unless the Patriots.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Give them money overpay You're gonna have to pay.
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: Which I don't think makes sense for either side.
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: We've been through all those guys. Thanks that's for Born.
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: I mean, I I have hopes he'll help. You know,
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: he'll help, but it's just hard to know what he's
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: gonna bring because they can't really execute in the passing
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: game yet. I mean last game.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: Having him in there over over Osborne and Thornton is
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: I think will be a pretty big upgrade.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: Hey Todd, Hey, guys, just trying to find some positives
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: that have you seen anything from Thornton or anybody else
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: that you on the old sensive side that you saw
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: during the preseason that's kind of like, Hey, they're doing
- 1:22:11Speaker 6: something in the last three games, maybe Polk or somebody.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: I think the answer of there, who was the first guy?
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: He said, Taekwan, I think no, I haven't seen any
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: I haven't seen anything offensively other than vermondre Stevenson, Antonio
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: Gibson breaking tackles.
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Polk's had some moments on film where he's gotten open,
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: but a lot of those are backside digs and things
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: that he's so far away from the ball that it's
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: it's tough to tell that if he was like the
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: first read in the progression, if you'd be as open
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: as he really was, you know, in those types.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: I know we haven't had a lot of you know, catches,
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: but I haven't seen a lot of drops, you know,
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: guys dropping the ball.
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: That's you know, who's that'd be targeting.
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: Seventeen foul balls. Paul might be mad at me for
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: this one and that please don't get out in.
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: Paul, But I will say I make no promise.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: I will say that that that has some reps that
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: look pretty good from time to time.
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: Yeah, ready, ready, I mean he's an elite pass rusher
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: according to what we do guys.
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: Like, because we're joking around, like about metrics, like you
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: know with PF's top rated player, I'm like, I don't
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: know about that, but but I thought he has you know,
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: he's athletic guy, like, I mean, he can move a
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: little bit. It's just when there aren't other guys making
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: places to to competent that he can complimentarily fill in with,
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: he's kind of lost in those plays. And then he
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: has plays where he you know, loses contain and.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: Can we have Yeah, we might need to have a
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: conversation about but it's a developing take. I don't know
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: if I'm ready for Williams and.
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: Fellow william I think I know what you're thinking.
- 1:23:47Speaker 7: Hey, all right, okay, question football, Can you just explain.
- 1:23:56Speaker 6: Me why is this well?
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: How long is this we built on a take. You know,
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: we've we've been at this for a while.
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: Mit then on players or whatever, and and can't bring
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: talent in When I how long do you think it's
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: going to take bom.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: I think it's an impossible question to answer without knowing
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: about Drake May. Like, if Drake May is your next
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: franchise quarterback, I'm not telling you he's the next top
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: I'm saying he's a good player. You can be good
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: next year and really good in two years.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: It can happen that quickly.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: Like they obviously have some holes to fill. But let's
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: just say you come out of this rookie year thinking, okay,
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: not a lot went right, but we got something with
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: this quarterback. We got to shore up left tackle, We
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: got to find a way to maybe get an alpha
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: at wide receiver. Maybe we get some depth a corner.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Gonna have to address the defensive line. Maybe you're not
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: gonna be able to do all of that much like
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: we said this year, well you had to get a quarterback.
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: You can't get everything. Maybe you can get Will Campbell,
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: you know, a good young cornerback to give you some
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: depth at corner, and then maybe to be a defensive
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: lineman and then in two years, whatever you didn't fill
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: that year, you can fill the next year. You should
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: be a playoffer.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: And it's you know, you're not going to hit on
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: every one of your draft picks, but we're only talking
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: about hitting on like, you know, thirty percent of them
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: each year.
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: But I'm just talking about like, if you draft Will
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: Campbell in the first round, you're gonna hit on him. No, no, no, yeah,
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Like did you just say you have to hit on
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: him or you're gonna.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: H you will hit if you if you draft a
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: blue chipper like that, you'll hit.
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: On him if he works. Yeah, there's a lot of
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: blue chippers that get drafted in the top ten that
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: don't hit. He will, like if he ends up being
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: if he ends up being like the left tackle of
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: the future and you pencil him in for ten years
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: as your left tackle, that's huge. Yeah, that's huge.
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, that's a building block.
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: There's a really you know, February of the Combine.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: Deuce, I'm excited.
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: Thanks, well, you know, I'm.
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: Gonna be up there with the tape measure for the
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: arm length when he goes up to the podium. It's
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: a big deal offensive line.
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: Saturday, though, Jim Mage said thirty two and seven eighths,
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: which I can live with because they'll stretch him out.
- 1:26:18Speaker 11: You know, he'll.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: He'll get to thirty three if to get him there.
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: But I've heard that it actually is closer to thirty
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: two flat and that hurts. That's guard, that's hard.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Terry Chad writes in from Atlanta. I'm not gonna lie
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: and say I wouldn't be excited to see more Drake
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: May this season. However, I would be lying if I
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: said I thought he'd make enough of a difference to
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: put him in prematurely. And it's not so much a
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: fear of him getting injured, but rather me respecting what
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: Tom Brady said about rookie quarterbacks needing time to learn
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: and build confidence. So when times like this, I'll always
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: defer to the exerts. And if the greatest to ever
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: do it says sitting rookie quarterbacks is what's best, then
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: maybe we should listen.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: Because he's a talent evaluator.
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: Now, I mean that's a fair argument, but like the
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: second best quarterback who's ever done it, says the opposite.
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: So who do you believe do you just go by
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: Brady because he's better than Manning.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and why can't you learn by playing?
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean I believe that Tom Brady feels for
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: him watching and learning was the best way to go
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: for him.
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: I just don't know how you can just make a
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: blanket statement that's perfect for everybody, especially when some guys
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: can't learn that way.
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: His experience was coming in and you had an established
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: offense with an established quarterback that he had to learn.
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: And now you have Jaden Daniels who they're kind of
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: tailoring the offense just to him, which you had. Had
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: someone done that for Tom, maybe it wouldn't have been
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: as good as it was, but I have to imagine that.
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: Would have worked for him.
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: I just when you go down these rabbit holes of
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: what's the best path sitting playing, there's it's so anecdotal,
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: and every single situation such is different. And for every
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: Peyton Manning, there's a Jordan Love and for every Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: you know, there's there's another guy and it's just Joe Burrow, right,
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Joe Burrow, Sure we could we could just go There's
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: no right way to do it. So that's what makes
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: it even more confusing is because there is if it
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: was established that sitting was the way to go, and
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: every single guy that sat and worked out better for
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: that player, then that would be one team.
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: Every team like we make fun of, especially me, I'm
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: as snarky. We make fun of all of these guys,
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: all with all the coaches, all the these dumb teams.
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: But do you think every single team is just stupid
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: and they just say it's the exact wrong thing to
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: do playing a young quarterback too soon, but we're gonna
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: do it anyway. Or do you think that they think
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: their guy is ready? Well, I wonder, and sometimes they're
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: right and sometimes they're wrong.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Do you think some of those cases the owner puts
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: pressure on them.
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: Yeah, of course. But again there's enough guy like take
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: Everybody likes to talk about twenty one when there was
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: four five quarterbacks taken in the first round, and right
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: now you'd say they were zero for five because Trevor
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: Lawrence just looks like a mess, right right, So at
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: best you're going to say they're one for five. But
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: no one ever talks about the year before when three
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: guys got taken in the top six and all by
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: terrible teams. They all played really quickly and they were
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: all good. Yeah right. I don't know what year was
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: that that borough was. It was at nineteen or twenty.
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: It was twenty. It was the year before.
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: So Borrow and.
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: In Herbert all to bad teams and all are pretty good.
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: I'm not telling you they're all all pros, right, but
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: they're all pretty good.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: All of them didn't get hurt by playing early, right.
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: Like mentally right, you know, obviously Borrow towards ACL but
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: literally to us, you know, like Tua didn't get concussions
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: because he played too soon, right, right, which, by the way,
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: I saw some concussions over the weekend. Should all those
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: guys retire, you know, for the for the for the
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: good of the game, the NFL should step in. What
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: a rebelievable cheap shot ruined my whole fantasy team.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: Now he got suspense that shot?
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: Did he? Who's got a letter?
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: He gets sent to the principal's office there.
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: Yeah, Derwin James, I guess as a repeat.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: You, Robin Bellingham, A lot of people are in the
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: camp of sitting may so he learns before going in.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: But if the current starting quarterback is unable to make
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: quick decisions and is not getting the team into advantageous plays.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Then is there really any benefit to learning behind a
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: season vet? What is Jacoby doing right now that is
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: guiding May's development. I appreciate that Jacoby is behind a
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: bad line, but good quarterbacks can usually overcome a team's
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: weaknesses at least somewhat and make plays.
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, that's the drum I'm beating. Like, look,
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: he was brought in here to not just mentor Drake May.
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: He was also supposed to be a game manager, and
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: I'm not expecting him to be anything more than that.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: But outside of not turning the ball over, he hasn't
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: done anything else to make that is I would put
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: in the game manager category. You know, he reading defenses
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: and reading them quickly, hitting the layups like not missing
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Austin Hooper. Oh, and he's wide open down the field,
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: you know, getting the team in and out of bad
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: plays like that. Those are elements of game managing too,
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: that go beyond just Yes, he hasn't turned the ball over,
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: but he's not doing any of the other things either,
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: and so it just to me it's just like people
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: that say, well, he hasn't done anything to lost the job.
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: I disagree. I don't think he's played well and I
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: he's prove for one hundred yards last week.
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: Like, I don't know.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: At what point are we gonna sit here and say
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: he's literally just out there to be a sacrificial lit
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: and and is that fair to him? Oh, in the
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: rest of the team.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I would. I would just add, like, if you're
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: in the camp of May needs to sit and learn, like,
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: that's fine, and I sort of agree with it. I'm
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: not up in arms that May is not playing. I
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: haven't been from the start, But I also don't think
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: that the only way to learn is by watching good
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: quarterback play. Like, so everything that Evan just said about
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: Prissette is probably accurate. He hasn't been great, but that
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: doesn't mean that May can't learn from it. That doesn't
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: mean they're not going to the meetings in saying, Jacoby,
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: you got to reset the protection here so this runaway
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: guy is accounted for, or Jacoby, here's your drop, here's
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: your first read, it's there, and you're late with the ball.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: That Like, you don't have to go out there and
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: watch a guy play at a high level to learn, Like,
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: you learn by what you know. Getting in the meeting room,
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: getting in the film room, getting on the practice field.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: There's a lot of different ways to learn when you're
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: not playing. It's not just by watching the guy play
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: in front of you at a high level. That's not
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: the only way to learn.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: I think the thing that's intriguing for me that, like
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: a lot of the fans might not even realize, it's
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: just how willing Drake May was to pull the trigger
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: on deep passes or some of these throws that you're
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: seeing Jacoby miss that, Like, those are the things that
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: kill me. It's the layups. Like it's fine that he's
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: not going to make the killer mistakes, but you can't
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: miss the layups, like you can't miss the easy stuff.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: That's a separate thing.
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: I'm probably going into a separate I just think said
- 1:33:22Speaker 5: that the intrigue with May is that he's going to
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: make plays that Jacobe's missing right now too, like and
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: that's something that even as a rookie.
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: But is he gonna do? Is he ready to do that?
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: And I think that's what the coaches are asking, can
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: he do that? I think we're not even having a
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: conversation about the skill set that that may can make
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: plays that Brissett can't. Is he ready to do that?
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: Is he ready to take advantage of his skill set?
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: I just I don't know. I don't have all the information.
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: I just I can't imagine that he's so far away
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: from that being a possibility, especially if they curtail the
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: offense to to the his strengths and call plays that
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: he's comfortable with running, Like when they get him in
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: the game at the end of the fourth quarter the
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: other night. It wasn't perfect. He had a lot of
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: mistakes in that and that in that drive, honestly, but
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: you still see the flashes in his ability to make plays.
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: He's gifted, there's no question, and it just it will
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: get better, like he will.
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: He will get better as you know, the course of
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: the season and as he continues to play at some
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: of the little things that he's still missing. And I
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: just I am worried that they're so apprehensive about playing
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: him because I don't necessarily think it's about him. I
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: think it's about them and the situation.
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: Do you think do you think it's a reasonable to
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: say that the coaching staff this year should be creating
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: and tailoring the offense to Drake May behind the scenes
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: to go forward with, you know, like that should be.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: What's very angry.
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: Yeah, well but I'm saying, yeah, I understand what friend's
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: mad that they're just running that play. But if you're
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: actively saying, like, look, we have to go off the offense,
- 1:34:58Speaker 5: we know. But really the goal that we want behind
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: the scenes is we're going to create an offense for
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: you, you know, and it's gonna take some time. We've got
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: to get to know You've got to get to know
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: some of our parts. We understand our players on great
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: fits for the scheme that we know right now. But
- 1:35:11Speaker 5: really I think that's and that probably gets back to
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: wanting a creative offensive coordinator who could come in here
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: and really build something from the scratch for Drake so
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: that it starts to come to fruition. At the end
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: of the year. You've got a new offense. You're not
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: just gonna be running Drake May out there next year
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: in this offense trying to make him do the same
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: thing Jacoby would be doing. I just I wonder how
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: much they're doing that beyond this.
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: It's just really tough because Jacoby, comparatively speaking, is so
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: much so physically limited compared to Drake that if Drake
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: May is gonna run a shotgun offense, you look at
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: the teams across the league that run that kind of offense.
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: They all have playmaking quarterbacks, so they all have these
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: guys that have all these physical tools to work with.
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: You can't put Jacoby Brissett in an eighty five percent shotgun, even.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: If they're doing what Deuce is saying behind the scenes
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: building this offense for Drake, it can only be on
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: paper at this point. On practice, you're practicing to win
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: a game that week with your offense, right, It's not
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: like you can have a second Okay, now we're gonna
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: now we're going to practice the offense of the future.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: You know that's not happening unless Drake May's in the game.
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: Right, because they're trying to run an offense that they
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: believe is the best chance to win Sunday, right, right,
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: But that is because Jacoby Present can't play the other way, right,
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: So if you're gonna put him in the gun and
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: you're gonna spread the field and just say make something happen, Jacoby,
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: then it's gonna look terrible. So you know you have
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: to That's the biggest problem.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: It's all crazy right now, Yes.
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: You really you did this. You did this.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I've been doing this to myself for the past.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: Like no, but like it gets back to that point
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: of you know, the quarterbacks that did sit you know,
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: you take my Homes for example, he sat behind Alex
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: Smith for you know, fourteen games or fifteen games, but
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: Andy Reid was still running his own offense. It's just
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: that when Mahomes went in, it was that offense times
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: ten because he could extend plays and do things and
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: sideways and you know, between his legs that Alex Smith
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: couldn't do. But it was still Andy Reid's offense, you know,
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: and he didn't have to like and I do it
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: in a new offense for Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: And I do think as long as Alex van Pelt
- 1:37:18Speaker 4: stays here, that's what Drake May is going to be
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: asked to do. Yeah, now it's gonna look different, and
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: I think I think Evan brought up the point earlier,
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: like he'll be in the gun a little bit more
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: and stuff like that, but it's going to be the
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: same offense. They're not just going to run a whole
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: different offense.
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: No, but they'll run different plays within that offense. For it, they'll.
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: Probably be looking to push the ball downfield a little
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: bit more often, but they're going to ask him to
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: sort of spread out and make some plays off platform
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: that they wouldn't ask per set. But it's going to
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: be the same principles.
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I just wonder just when to take them at
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: face value. And Jerry comes out and he says, we're
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: sticking with Jakobe because he gives us the best chance
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: to win. I'm just not one hundred percent sold that
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: that's the truth. Because if you run this offense with
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: Jacobe and you run so much of these delay under
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: centered you know, bootlegs, play actions, you know, seven step drops,
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: like all this kind of you're doing this behind the
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: worst pass protecting offensive line in football.
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: So if you put.
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: Drake in there and you spread the field and it's
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: quick game, it's r PO, it's it's all these types
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: of things that get the ball out of the quarterback's
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: hand quickly by design, then your offensive line now all
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: of a sudden, has helped out.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: But start with what he said, we're playing the quarterback
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: who gives us the best chance to win. Should that
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: be the determining factor at this point or should it
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: be we're playing the quarterback of the future to get
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: them ready?
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: I would say the Reds, I would say the second thing.
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: But even still, no matter which way you look at it,
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: for me, I still think Drake is the answer because.
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: Well, he may not be the answer to win on Sunday.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: Sun He might not be because I can't say that.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: I get that, But should that be the motivating factor
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: at this point?
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: No? But even if it, if if I'm right, then
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: what difference does it make? Because I know both ways
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: are right. It just I don't know how you expect
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: this personnel, Like we talked all summer long, like I
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: don't really know if they have the offensive line to
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: run outside zone, Like I don't really know if they
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: have the athletes to run this type of offense. And
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: they've struggled with it, and they've struggled with the bootlegs
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: and they if you can't play action off of out
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: the outside zone game, then what's the point of running
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: outside zone?
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: So did they do that? You know when you watch
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: the film, did they run outside zone against the Jets
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: Thursday night? Like a good amount of this, Yeah, I
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: mean they ran like six times. But no, I know
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: they didn't have a lot of running plays in general.
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: The reason the reason I ask is it's another one
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: of those, you know, sort of approach questions. Mike and
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: I on the pregame show, we talked to Rich Simini,
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: you remember, and Rich talked about where you can really
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: hurt the Jets is on the edges. You can get
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: you can get the edge on them in the running game.
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: Running at them isn't necessarily the way to go, but
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: you can get them on the perimeter. And then they
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: came out and they wanted to throw a little bit early,
- 1:40:04Speaker 4: and you know, I guess the one running play that
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: that I remembered that was sort of to the edges
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: was the play that Remandre ended up face masking the
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: guy maybe hurting himself on the in the process. But
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: that was a positive That was like an eighteen yard run. Yeah,
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: so that was a positive play. And I didn't really
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: see I didn't really think they went to that much.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:40:25Speaker 3: I just think the biggest thing with this scheme is
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: that everything in the run game is designed to play
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: action off the run game. So if you're not able
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: to play action successfully and you're not building play action
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: off of the run game, then it really the run
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: game becomes Nolan void at that point. Yeah, Like the
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: whole goal is to is to create explosives off the
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: pass game. So if you're not sequencing it together and
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: it's not marrying up and you're not doing that sort
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: of thing, then then the whole system is just kind
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: of coming down like it. So it just you're running
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: it to do what they did in the first couple
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: of weeks, which is to keep the score down in
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: time of possession and play that kind of football, but
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: you're not necessarily doing it to be a productive offense.
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: So I just if you can't play action off this
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: run game, then there's no point of trying to install
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: this outside zone system.
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: Let's see, Dan in Michigan from Virginia says fred, I
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: got your silver lining right here. The Jets had a
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: great game, which will only add to the anticipation their
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: fans are feeling for the season. That will make it
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: all the more sweeter when the Jets jet it up
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: again and crash and burn.
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: That's a good point, right, and it gets you know,
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: and I know Dan's being snarky, but it gets to
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: the point where you know, we talked about the Jets
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: and heading into this. You know, we all said, I think,
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: how did you put it, Fred? Like, if Aaron Rodgers
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: stays healthy, that's that's going to be a team that
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: has a lot going for it. And I think that
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: everybody around here refused to like, no one said, you know,
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: they're going to match up and beat the Jets. It
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: was the Jets are the Jets?
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: Right, Like that's what you don't scro That's what you're
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: pinning your hopes on. With Jets doing Jets things and
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers getting hurt. Those are the two factors that
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: like no one says, like, no, they're not that good. No,
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: because they're really good on both sides of the ball.
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: They have good personnel, yep.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Ben and Brooklyn. Given the unsportsman like penalties, is there
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: any chance Mayo was seeking an identity and coach them
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: to be tough but they took it too far. Now
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: that Jamar Chase seems to be settling in, what are
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: what other high talent disgruntled players should we be keeping
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: an eye on. I know quality alignemen don't get moved
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: during the season, but I love to see them make
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: a deal for the future another pass rusher. Why to
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: see your cornerback would be great though, I don't know
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: what chips we have to deal other than picks. I
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: just like to take advantage of our cap space. I
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: think that's gonna happen next year.
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not.
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: Sure about day on sportsman like penalties.
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: I don't think that was coach. They were both bad penalties.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: But do you guys think Jamar Chase is a legitimate option.
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: No, he's saying now that he's settling and he's off
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: the table.
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: He was never on the table.
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: Yeah, he said, what other disgruntled guys do we have
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: now we're I don't think I don't think that that
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: was ever like.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: Well, I get what he's saying.
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: You know, you know, is anybody holding out that's not
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: actually playing, because those are the guys that you go after.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: Higgins looked pretty good last night.
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just I'm not saying he didn't.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: You know, the trade deadline, you're going to give up
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: a lot of capital to get a really good player.
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: It's not gonna I almost wonder if think of the
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: opposite direction of the trade deadline, that's what I would sellers.
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: Sellers yeah, yeah, Jonathan Jones.
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: That's sad.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: But just like like in the last year, like he's
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: sign a one year deal, like.
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: Wait for the end, he's actually offensive player, Like what.
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: But e j last you know, one year deal keeps
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: saying last year one year deal contender needs a pass rusher.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think that that's out of the realm.
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: I mean I almost rated him last year, so you know,
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: I would.
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: Think about him. I would, you know, I would think
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: about Jonathan Jones. I kind of like Jonathan Jones so
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: much as a person, as a leader, I think that
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: that would be tough to say we're gonna let that
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: dud go. But yeah, I mean some of those decisions
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: I think are going to be tough for Elliott Wolf.
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: But I think he probably needs to make one or
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: two like that and see if you can get, you know,
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: an additional draft pick, even if it's not as high
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: as you think and it's hard to get. Sometimes the
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: trading deadline can be funny. Sometimes you give up more
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: than you think, and sometimes you get a guy for
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: less than you think too. So you know, like Mohammed
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: Sanu for a second round pick, You're like, wow, a
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: second round pick. For Mohammed soon that seems like a
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: lot you need it, but then you've got other guys
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: that get traded and you're like, wow, you only got
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: a conditional fifth, so you never know.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and Heinze. Honestly, the Judon trade is looking pretty
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: good right about.
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: I think the Judon trade was excellent.
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they got a really good return for him.
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: He's been okay with Atlanta, but it hasn't been anything crazy,
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: not certainly not pre injury Judon.
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: I mean, the Patriots would be one and two if
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: Judon was on the team right now. Yeah, It's not
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: like he would have been the difference between a winter line.
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: I mean, I know you could say, well, an overtime game,
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: if you had a pass rusher, maybe you get off
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: the field. That's certainly possible.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: But usually at the end of the games, that's when
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: he kind of faced.
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: Certainly possible that maybe he had a sack on one
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: of those scoring drives and Seattle didn't score. Yeah, you
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: could make that argument.
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: He looked a little heavy watching the game the other night,
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: the Atlanta game.
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: Well, what would they say, like whenever they say about
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: a player, you know, the Falcons are trying to get
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Jude onto. That means that there's something in his game
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: that they're played hard, you know.
- 1:45:47Speaker 5: Commit to the team.
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Greg and Shrewsbury. How many more years do you
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: think David Andrews has left? Should they look for a
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: draft pick next year for this position?
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, you don't have to draft centers high. But
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: that's a fifth to sixth round pick. I mean Andrews
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: himself was undrafted.
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: Jake Andrews got him in the mix.
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: And I don't know what his status is. That's a
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: good point. They might not even need to but strange, Yeah,
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: that's it to me. That's a Day three pick on
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: interior offensive lineman. You know, you take a couple of
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: flyers there and usually usually one of them.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Just drafts like Wisconsin, you'll be fine City.
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: So you know, day three pick and Jake Andrews and
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: Mafi Mafi didn't hit Robin. We don't know about Andrews,
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: and so did hit. You know, at least he's still here.
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: You get one of those corn fed linemen from the midwest.
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: Nebraska in the old days.
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: I do wonder at center. Yeah, he's a little tall
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: to play center. That's like the one issue. But They're
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: going to run this this scheme.
- 1:46:45Speaker 5: Take anybody at this point because they just need depth,
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: any bodies.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: Jordan and Hawaii. I know it's week three with a
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: very young coaching staff across the board. However, I think
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: a lot of what this team is is comes down
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: to the coaches and not the players. On defense, Why
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: are we playing these soft, cushy zones back to back
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: weeks against these veteran quarterbacks who are just picking us
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: apart underneath and finding the saut spots in the zones?
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: And then on the offense we run for one hundred
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: and eighty yards back to back weeks. Then decides let's
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: abandon that. What are we doing? And I think the
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: thing that grinds my gears the most is why does
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: it feel like when Mao gets on the podium, he
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: gets hit with truth serum and says, I don't know,
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: We'll see who starts. Then the next day seems like
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: AVP is playing damage control and acting like the head
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: coach and it's his decision who plays quarterback. At this rate,
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: AVP is gonna wrap May in a bubble wrap and
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: stick him in a closet, strap to a chair, watching
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: film for all of twenty twenty four. Do you get
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: that sense?
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: It's a little bit of an exaggeration, obviously, but I
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: do get that sense. I get the sense that coming
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: off the field on Thursday night and the ends, the
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: Jets when they asked John Mayo, is Jacob ever said
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: still your quarterback? And he said, I don't know. He
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: then said on we I on Friday or yesterday or
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: whatever that was, that he spent all night watching the
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: tape and then came away from it and suddenly he
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: had clarity.
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: That Friday, right, he said that he is the starting quarterback. Well,
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: I do wonder if, but if Mayo was looking to
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: make that move sooner than Elliott Wolf and all.
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: That. To me, I'm going to be consistent. And I
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: thought after the game on Thursday night that unlike previous regimes,
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: whatever they decide to do with may or Jacoby Mayo
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: will announce it early in the week. And he did,
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: you know, because he doesn't want this whole thing all week.
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: So when Drake may is ready, I don't believe it's
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: going to be a mystery, or when I should say,
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: when they're ready to play Drake may It's not going
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: to be a mystery. He'll start the He'll start the
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: week off saying we're getting made to start this week.
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: It won't be something where you know we're going into
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: the game. It's undecided.
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: I agree.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: My bigger thing with it, I guess, is just he
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: he claimed on the EI that he went back and
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: watched the film and then changed his mind. He thought
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: Jakobe wasn't the problem. It was a line, it was this.
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: There was okay, fair argument. I My fear is because
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: I sometimes I'm like Paul and think of the worst
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: case scenario is that he's going back to Elliott into
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: Alex van Pelt and they're telling Gerrod calm down, be patient,
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: hold your water, stay the course.
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: So you think he wants may In and they're talking
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: to him.
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: I think he's wanted may In since the preseason when
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: he said that he out played Jacoby in the summer.
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: I kind of think that too.
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: It just he's a as a former player going with
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: the more talented guy has to be so attractive to
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: Gid Mayo and I think it's the other people. It's Ampelt,
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: it's Elliott.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: Why if that's true, And again we're just conjecturing here
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: we don't have any inside knowledge. We don't know that
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: that's a fact. But if it's true, why and for
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: what reason are they trying to talk him out of it?
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: Why is it an a VP's interest in Elliott Wolf's interest,
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: you know, or not is in their interest? But what
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: are the factors that they're saying no, no, it's you
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: still got to keep for set in there?
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: What do I My guess is they're telling himself that
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: Drake isn't ready like that there. I'm sure that's what
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: it is, is that he's not ready. But truthfully, I
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: feel like they couldn't that be true. I think they're
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: they're more worried about the scenario than anything else.
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: I don't know if I buy it from Elliot Wolf though,
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: Like I mean, now it's Van Pelt if he's in
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: the weeds with it and he's you know, meetings every
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: day with the quarterbacks and he you know that carries water.
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: But I don't know why Elliott Wolf.
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: Well, we just threw Elliott Wolf's name in there, but
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: it could be a VP and it could be Ben McAdoo.
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: But but to.
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: The point, like I just wonder if when you have
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: a plan and you're determined to just do what Green
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: Bay does, and these guys all came from Green Bay. Well,
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: that's the way we did it there, that's the way
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: we're going to do it here. I think this has
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: been predetermined.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Okay, give me Aaron Rodgers and we'll start him over
- 1:51:20Speaker 2: to fred.
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: I'm not arguing. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying they
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: have decided. I don't believe they decided when they signed
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett that Drake may wasn't going to start this year.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I don't know about that.
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: That's what the way I feel. I'm just giving you
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: my thoughts.
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: Okay, I think that's your opinion.
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: I think Mayo is a dissenter. I don't think he
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: wants to go down that road. I think he wants
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: to play may when he feels like he's ready. I
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: think that the other two are going to come up
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: with different reasons to not play him throughout the year.
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: You cannot tell I cannot tell you how much that
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: press conference from a VP on Friday drove me up
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: a wall. So so we're going to say that Jacoby
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: everything right in the game, but Drake may had footwork
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: progression on his twelve dropbacks when he made two plays
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: that were more plays than the offense had made all
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: night long. But when he got into the game, well
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: the footwork regressed.
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: So hold on, wasn't that in answer to a specific
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: question about things that he was looking at with in
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: But it's I mean, you know, he got to be fair, No,
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: because he's not being fair to Drake, Like why would
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: I be fair to him? But like he's not being fair,
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: like he's he's being overly critical of a rookie that
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: in his first regular season game ever where clearly the
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: he was nervous question.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: And nobody asked him, Hey, what what's what were the
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: things that Jacoby Brisaid needs to work on? Nobody cares,
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: nobody asked it.
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: Because but he's but he sticks his neck out for
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: Jacoby any chance that he gets, and he's and he
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: sits there and he says all the time that you know,
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: Jacoby is our quarterback.
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: Jacoby's you know, the best chance to win the game.
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: You know, because he knows he's.
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: A sacrificial lamb. There's no reason to nitpick him.
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: Okay, I would just if we're gonna be honest about
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: one guy, I would just rather be honest.
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: I think the context is different.
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: I mean, I think you're getting really close to the point.
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: I'm you know, I know we're getting late in the show,
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: but I think you're getting really close to the point
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: where the offensive production is so bad that I don't
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: possibly even envision a scenario that it gets any worse.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: And you can talk about turnovers all you want, yep, Like,
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: what's the difference there.
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: I'm with you there, Like I'm with you if.
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: You make some plays and you turn it over, I'll
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: take that. Like Caleb, you know, we talk a lot
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: about Jayden Daniels because he was great last night. If
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: I was Chicago and I watched the game Sunday with
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: Caleb Williams played, I'd have a lot of excitement about that.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: He turned the ball over three times.
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: There's nothing he's doing that says, oh, he can't play.
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: He turned the ball over three times, and ultimately that's
- 1:53:52Speaker 4: probably why they didn't win the game. They didn't score
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: enough because he turned it over. He had two picks
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: and a fumble, right, but he also threw for three
- 1:53:59Speaker 4: hundred sixty three yards.
- 1:54:01Speaker 2: I'm very excited. If I'm a Bears fan.
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: He made some incredible throws in some incredible plays. He
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: gets his rookie first round pick. Roma Dunes that really
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: involved in that game. He has Cole Kamet, who was
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: kind of quiet the first couple of games, suddenly with
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: one hundred yard game. If I was a Bears fan,
- 1:54:17Speaker 4: I would much rather watch my guy turning the ball
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: over and making the amount of plays that he did.
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: Then stay within the lines, do not make a mistake,
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: do not score points, shorten the game. Like at some
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: point you have to make a decision. Is our goal
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: to be competitive or is our goal to be good? Right?
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: Because right now it seems to me the goal was
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: just to be competitive, right right.
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: And I don't need to come at Fred or No
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: or avp I just to me it just it just
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: comes back to like what Paul was saying, that they're
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: finding reasons to not play the kid, and when he
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: comes out and he says, you know, it was almost
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: like it was it was a softball laid up on
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: a tee for him, for him to point out the
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: fact that his footwork isn't isn't there yet, So that
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: now when all these people like us are questioning why
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: isn't he playing? Then we can you know, he can say,
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: well the footwork regression or you know, Karen Grigian, my
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: homeroom isn't good.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: In my hope, like like I said, I hope that
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: was just an answer to a specific question. And I
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: hope that when Gerard Mao says is he ready and
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: he says, well, his footwork's not, I hope that's Mao's
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: not taking that as the reason why he's not.
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: Purely the old adage. But they always say, like you know,
- 1:55:32Speaker 4: in sports, like in a draft, like there are guys
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: that are like the the you know, the blue the
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: blue chips, the five star recruits, and you're like, oh,
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: you see, you know he needs work on this and this,
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: but you see that that skill. And then there's the
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: other guy who's sort of under the radar that's like
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: maybe a three star and it's like, well he does
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: this well in that well, but I mean he doesn't
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: have the straight line speed. Like they're always looking for
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: the thing that a guy can't do to say no,
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: as opposed to the guy who's well thought of. They
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: just accentuate the one thing that he does do well well.
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: I think there's a little of that going. Like, Drake
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: May comes into the game and he didn't look great.
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: I'm not gonna like sugarcoat it. The first pass that
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: he throws, I can totally see Alex Van pelsay, See,
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: that's why we can't play him. He threw the ball
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: right to the lineby he didn't even see the lineback.
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: That's what's gonna happen, so right, So what Yeah? He then,
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: you know, did some things that were pretty good. He
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: also did some things that were pretty risky, like getting
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: absolutely smashed on a third down run. But how is
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: the guy ever gonna develop and learn if he doesn't
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: get on the field and experience it. If you decide
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: that he's not gonna play at all this year, you're
- 1:56:43Speaker 4: gonna go into next year virtually in the same spot
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: having no idea about Drake May.
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: And I don't worry how much practice time if you
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: if you planned on him not playing this year, you
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: should have kept Bailey Zappy or somebody similarly.
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: I would agree with that too, you know, I would
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: agree with that. I just think that they're looking for
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: reasons to But that's my point.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: See about that was the plan. I think the plan
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: is to play him this year.
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: No, I think he's going to play, but I don't
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: think that they want him to And by day I
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: mean Alex Van Pelt and Elliott.
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I don't.
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: I don't think they want him to play.
- 1:57:15Speaker 3: They're going to lose.
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: My opinion is they they are expecting him to play.
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: I mean, there's no way of proving either one of
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: us right. They're gonna I mean, they're gonna lose their
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: argument in my opinion, because Gerd Mao is gonna win
- 1:57:28Speaker 4: out because he's got someone really strong.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: No, but he should be the head coach.
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: But I thank goodness that Gerd Mayo is gonna win out.
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: And if I'm at some point in this season by
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: the end of October, if the coach, if we're not
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: all in agreement, I'm going in there on Monday morning
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: and I'm saying Drake's playing, get him ready and and
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: the story and like, at some point we have to do.
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: He's got to do that. He's like, yeah, I don't
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: care if you disagree. He's now our starting quarterback and
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: you better coach the s at them. Yeah, you know,
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: one more call uh on the TPX how line. If
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: I can get my bluetooth mouthed mouse to work. Kendall
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: is in North Carolina. What's up, Kendall? Thanks for holding on.
- 1:58:12Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm along with Paul is ready? Why am not playing?
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: To get why he's gonna have to pat the fast twice? Amaze?
- 1:58:21Speaker 7: So this is a getting ready for what's the matter
- 1:58:24Speaker 7: about playing Miami or.
- 1:58:27Speaker 6: You should play?
- 1:58:28Speaker 5: No?
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: I yep, I get. I get what you're saying. I'man
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: Francisco versus Miami, and I also.
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: Get that you know San Francisco at San Francisco is
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: not ideal.
- 1:58:39Speaker 3: It's a monster.
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: It's not an ideal situation.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's all I think where coming from. It is
- 1:58:44Speaker 3: just there's certain teams that are in a different category
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: of teams. This is not them going on the road,
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: uh you know, to play even Cincinnati.
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: But I'll tell you something, if all that those personnel
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: losses for San Francisco lead this to be a closer
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: game than we're expecting to give away Thursday. But I'm
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: sensing a tone here. If you know, all of a sudden,
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: you're in like a you know, a twenty to thirteen game,
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: there'll be second guessing. There'll be some second guessing that
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: you should have hit a different quarterback. Maybe you could
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: have scored some points.
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and it would be fair.
- 1:59:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's fair.
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: Second guessing.
- 1:59:19Speaker 4: That's only fail.
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: It's only fail. All right. That's going to be it
