- 0:22SPEAKER_00: We've been working our way through a series on making money as a writer.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: On today's episode, we're talking about courses, which is one of the most natural ways for you to offer value to your audience and increase your income.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now, as a former college professor, courses are honestly one of the things that comes most naturally to me.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: When you spend 17 years thinking about curriculum, lesson plans, and assessment day in and day out, it kind of becomes second nature.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: But chances are pretty high that you are not a teacher by trade.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And that's perfectly okay because you just need to know that you can put together a great course.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: One of the keys to putting together a great course, in my opinion, is to figure out the specific objectives you want the learner to achieve by the end of the course and then work backwards from there to give them the info, the experiences, and learning activities that will help take them there.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: But it's not just about the information in a course, it's also in the marketing of the course.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Because if you don't have marketing for your course, then you probably won't have any sales.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Now, marketing is a giant area that I don't have time to get into right now.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And to be honest, it's not really my area of expertise.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: There are a lot of people who are far stronger with uh anything related to marketing than I am, but suffice it to say that if you're going to succeed with your courses or really do anything business related for that matter, you need to become comfortable with marketing and learning how to do it more effectively.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: From a business standpoint, courses are a fantastic addition to your streams of income.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Readers and learners value courses at a much higher level than they value books.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: So you can take the same material that you've used for a book, translate it into a course, and then charge a lot more for it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So if you enjoy teaching and putting together material in a way that helps other people experience transformation, then courses are a great way for you to add value to others and increase your income.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And by the way, if you're interested in learning how to build and market online courses, I highly recommend that you connect with my good friend Lucas Marino.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Lucas is an expert in these areas and he's developed some courses to help you have success with online courses.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: So check it out at merinotraining.com and there will be a link in the show notes.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question Do you enjoy teaching?
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And if so, have you ever considered developing an online course?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: As always, thanks for listening, and I'll see you tomorrow.
