- 0:20Speaker 2: it's about to get real.
- 0:22Speaker 3: So be sure to show your girls some love and like, comment,
- 0:26Speaker 3: and subscribe.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I know we could be another way.
- 0:38Speaker 4: It's a new week at Just Ask the Podcast, the
- 0:40Speaker 4: safe space where transparency meets transformation. It's your girl Jessica S. Smith,
- 0:44Speaker 4: and I do nothing without my girl Desiree.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Desiree. Desiree. Desiree.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Desiree. Desiree.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Desiree. Can y'all tell my friend how good she look today?
- 0:54Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 0:54Speaker 4: No.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Yes.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Thank you, guys.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Thank you. Because you just know.
- 0:59Speaker 1: This is receiving.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You just rejected.
- 1:01Speaker 1: This is receiving.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It's tea. I'm receiving. It's tea. Thank you so much.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You are beautiful. Thank you. Yes, you are.
- 1:09Speaker 4: She won't receive it unless it's done in a holy
- 1:12Speaker 4: matrimony type of thing.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Unless we go to the third heaven. Oh, you're beautiful.
- 1:18Speaker 4: The Lord tells you you're beautiful. Oh, Lord.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Thank you. Oh, Lord.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Oh, Lord.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Thank you, Jessica. How are you today? I feel blessed.
- 1:32Speaker 1: You look good. I'm really excited.
- 1:34Speaker 4: This green is green and glowing. It's doing something to
- 1:37Speaker 4: my hair. It's like the popping and the red. Because
- 1:39Speaker 4: green and red are complementary colors.
- 1:41Speaker 2: No, I didn't know that. But technically, when you mix
- 1:43Speaker 2: them together, they make brown. Yeah, they do. Brown skin.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That's why it looks so good.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I got brown skin and red.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Just in case you didn't know, color theory, that's what happens.
- 1:53Speaker 2: You make it.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah, because Desiree used to be an artist. She still
- 1:56Speaker 4: is an artist. She likes to paint for fun.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yes, I like to paint. I paint on faces. Yes,
- 2:01Speaker 2: she does. I paint on canvases. And I paint on hair, too.
- 2:03Speaker 2: She does.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And so she understands colors really well. Tell the people
- 2:07Speaker 4: how you feeling, though, Desiree. Do you feel how you look?
- 2:10Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, I feel real good. I feel real good.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But, you know, because, you know, God is good.
- 2:16Speaker 4: And also, and, you know, I'm getting ready to approach her.
- 2:21Speaker 4: A very beautiful milestone. What's the beautiful milestone? Go ahead
- 2:24Speaker 4: and tell people. My birthday is coming up in October. Y'all.
- 2:29Speaker 4: And your girl will have graced this earth for a
- 2:32Speaker 4: good old 40 years. 40 years. You know, it took
- 2:36Speaker 4: Moses 40 years.
- 2:37Speaker 2: 40.
- 2:38Speaker 1: 40.
- 2:39Speaker 2: 40.
- 2:41Speaker 4: So that means that you got another 40 up in
- 2:44Speaker 4: you so you can do well.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I've never seen that.
- 2:47Speaker 4: You know when you try to make everything Bible, sometimes
- 2:49Speaker 4: it don't make sense.
- 2:51Speaker 2: But I'm good. Thanks for asking. Thanks for having me today.
- 2:54Speaker 4: But you look good. I pray to God that I
- 2:57Speaker 4: can look like 40. You know, our guest today is
- 3:00Speaker 4: in her 40s. Really? She don't act like it. She
- 3:03Speaker 4: don't look like it. She don't smell like it. I
- 3:05Speaker 4: wouldn't guess you're.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Not like a.
- 3:08Speaker 4: She just look good.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah, like... They say black don't gray. And she single.
- 3:14Speaker 4: So I'm just trying to see if somebody going to
- 3:16Speaker 4: see on Just Ask and Just Ask.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Okay?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Come on now. I'm just trying.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I'm trying because she friend. She friend now. She sis.
- 3:25Speaker 2: She big sis.
- 3:25Speaker 4: And I'm super excited to have the woman of God here, Desiree,
- 3:29Speaker 4: because she came for my neck the first time. She did.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:34Speaker 4: She be coming for my neck. Since I met her
- 3:36Speaker 4: last year. But here she's coming for all of us next.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Everybody, y'all better buckle up. Because we have a new project.
- 3:43Speaker 4: And you see, I say we, because anytime somebody comes again,
- 3:46Speaker 4: they're not just friends. They become family, right? And so
- 3:50Speaker 4: she has a revolving door invite here. But I'm super
- 3:54Speaker 4: excited because Joy Pittman is the epitome of what it
- 4:00Speaker 4: looks like to be available to God in any season,
- 4:03Speaker 4: in all seasons. And I'm super excited for this new project,
- 4:07Speaker 4: Have Built Houses, because this year, if you didn't remember,
- 4:12Speaker 4: 2026 has been the year of the builder for Just As.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And so I'm super excited about this project. I'm introducing
- 4:21Speaker 4: to some, but presenting to most, my girl, my sister,
- 4:25Speaker 4: Miss Joy Pittman.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Ain't she fine? Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful? Isn't
- 4:39Speaker 2: she precious? But we're going to leave it to stop there.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Five in November, so.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Big 45. Come on. Big 45. Wouldn't have guessed it.
- 4:52Speaker 2: One of Thonky. Come on.
- 4:54Speaker 4: You know, I love the glory of the Lord. I'm
- 4:56Speaker 4: just saying, the men of God, the Lord be preserving.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Preservation is a gift.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Because some.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Joy, how you feeling?
- 5:11Speaker 4: Because I know if you feel anything like you look
- 5:14Speaker 4: right now.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Glory, glory. Hallelujah. Since I laid my burdens down.
- 5:21Speaker 1: First of all, it's good to be with beautiful people.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I was telling a miss back there, because she tried
- 5:27Speaker 1: to come on and show me this cute hair and
- 5:28Speaker 1: then get back off. I was like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That's right. With her waves.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I said, okay.
- 5:34Speaker 1: What is it? Tee?
- 5:37Speaker 5: Tea.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Tea. Tea.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I feel really good. I feel like I am in
- 5:46Speaker 1: a place I'm supposed to be. And weirdly enough, I
- 5:48Speaker 1: don't always know where that is. But it's where I'm
- 5:51Speaker 1: supposed to be. So if you ask me for the
- 5:53Speaker 1: exact address, I may not be able to give it
- 5:55Speaker 1: to you. But I feel like God wants me to be.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And so I'm seeing things align in my personal life,
- 6:02Speaker 1: in my spiritual life, in my physical body. emotionally, like
- 6:07Speaker 1: things are just kind of like settling where they're supposed
- 6:09Speaker 1: to be. And then I'm feeling my alignment because then
- 6:12Speaker 1: God is allowing me to find collaborations and connections and
- 6:16Speaker 1: sisterhood with dope folks that are kind of saying the
- 6:19Speaker 1: same thing in their own way. And so, yeah, so
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'm excited to be here.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I love that you started.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I love that you started that because a lot of us,
- 6:29Speaker 4: especially when we talk about the safe space community that
- 6:32Speaker 4: we host, we have an opportunity to really appreciate and
- 6:36Speaker 4: be confident that we are in the place that God
- 6:39Speaker 4: wants us to be. How did you regain confidence that
- 6:42Speaker 4: you are where you are? Because you've had so many accomplishments,
- 6:46Speaker 4: like this is not your first book, this is not
- 6:48Speaker 4: your first move, this is not your first of a
- 6:50Speaker 4: lot of things, but you are saying this in this season,
- 6:54Speaker 4: like I'm where I'm supposed to be, like How do
- 6:57Speaker 4: you know this?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think one, I'll start with one, it
- 7:04Speaker 1: required me to stop comparing myself to other people's things.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So to stop looking at where somebody else is in
- 7:11Speaker 1: their trajectory and start aligning with like, okay, like I'm
- 7:16Speaker 1: in the rhythm that God wants me to be in,
- 7:18Speaker 1: or I'm willing to submit to the rhythm that God
- 7:22Speaker 1: wants me to be in, right? So some of us
- 7:23Speaker 1: are out here whitewater rafting, Some of us are in
- 7:25Speaker 1: what that little floating lazy pond, whatever it is, like
- 7:28Speaker 1: we're in different seasons as God is moving us. And
- 7:31Speaker 1: so your pace and your rhythm. So first it required
- 7:33Speaker 1: me to turn off all of the perimeter looking and
- 7:37Speaker 1: to remind myself that I was turning it off because
- 7:39Speaker 1: sometimes we try to close it off. And then what
- 7:42Speaker 1: started happening is I started actually looking at the clues
- 7:45Speaker 1: from heaven or what God was giving me as far
- 7:49Speaker 1: as confirmation, right? So sometimes we're looking for external confirmations.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But I started looking at the timing of things. I
- 7:55Speaker 1: started looking at, okay, little things that would come up.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Like when I went back into the workforce, I felt
- 8:00Speaker 1: like it was a fail. Like I was like, my gosh,
- 8:02Speaker 1: why am I? And now I got to go back
- 8:03Speaker 1: and get a job. Well, I went back and the
- 8:05Speaker 1: job made me the offer April 15th. So my first
- 8:08Speaker 1: day was April 15th, 2024. The door to open to
- 8:13Speaker 1: start looking for my house happens in April of 2026.
- 8:15Speaker 1: What do they want? They want two years of work history.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Two years. of the thing, right? Things, even the things
- 8:25Speaker 1: that I'm starting to say out loud, I'm looking at
- 8:27Speaker 1: the timing of God is giving me X. So to
- 8:30Speaker 1: come on here and be like, this was a year
- 8:32Speaker 1: to build it. We didn't have that conversation. He's giving
- 8:34Speaker 1: me how to build. So it started to watch him
- 8:37Speaker 1: allow things to align. And so we go from the
- 8:39Speaker 1: house thing to things that align physically. We're like timing
- 8:43Speaker 1: and my readiness for the things, the people's capacity to
- 8:47Speaker 1: hear Some of us know that we've been saying some
- 8:50Speaker 1: stuff we've been saying for seven, eight years, but now
- 8:52Speaker 1: there's an appetite for the stuff that we've been saying.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So allowing myself and then the confirmations, affirmations of the
- 8:58Speaker 1: people that I'm meeting in this part of the journey.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It's like, okay, now's the time for this because the
- 9:02Speaker 1: resources are showing up. Now's the time for this podcast
- 9:05Speaker 1: because I'm with a podcast expert in this season. So
- 9:08Speaker 1: in the years that I would have had to fumble
- 9:09Speaker 1: through it and try to figure it out and when
- 9:11Speaker 1: it wouldn't launch when I wanted it to in this
- 9:14Speaker 1: particular season, the momentum. And so, I think sometimes we
- 9:17Speaker 1: don't look at the success, the clues that God starts
- 9:20Speaker 1: giving us around our timing. And if we get focused
- 9:23Speaker 1: on everybody else's pace and everybody else's launches and everybody
- 9:27Speaker 1: else's doing and how they're matriculating through life, right? We
- 9:31Speaker 1: can miss God is literally lining us up for what
- 9:33Speaker 1: it is that he wants us to have.
- 9:35Speaker 4: I think that's so befitting, especially with what you're saying,
- 9:38Speaker 4: because comparison kills a lot of things, right? And so
- 9:43Speaker 4: I want to go straight into the book, because the
- 9:46Speaker 4: subtitle of this is Stop Building from Borrowed Blueprints. And
- 9:50Speaker 4: I think that's basically what you're saying right now.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Like we have borrowed.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Blueprints from different people, different, like in our comparison, right?
- 10:00Speaker 4: And so how do I know when I'm in my
- 10:04Speaker 4: blueprint versus someone else's?
- 10:08Speaker 1: Well, one, where did it come from, right? If God
- 10:11Speaker 1: is giving you a vision, but you're gathering the methodologies
- 10:16Speaker 1: from everybody but him, right? And you're tracking success based
- 10:21Speaker 1: on everybody's metrics, but his. Essentially, you might just be
- 10:27Speaker 1: building from a borrowed blueprint. If the blueprint is requiring
- 10:29Speaker 1: skills and things of you that you don't actually have,
- 10:32Speaker 1: if it's requiring you to be somebody other than who
- 10:35Speaker 1: he's designed you to be, if you got to become
- 10:36Speaker 1: a different, not an evolved or elevated version of yourself,
- 10:40Speaker 1: but a different version. If you got to take on
- 10:43Speaker 1: a whole nother persona to do what he's calling you
- 10:47Speaker 1: to do, potentially it's a borrowed blueprint, right? If you're
- 10:49Speaker 1: tracking everything based on how somebody else is moving. So
- 10:53Speaker 1: the initial framing for this started at a very spiritual
- 10:57Speaker 1: level where he was talking to me about for most
- 10:59Speaker 1: of the things that we're doing as kingdom folks, as believers,
- 11:03Speaker 1: there is a biblical blueprint for whatever it is that
- 11:06Speaker 1: we're trying to do. We often don't get a God
- 11:09Speaker 1: vision and then we go to the world's resources to
- 11:12Speaker 1: figure out how to get it done. Right. And so
- 11:14Speaker 1: he started showing me marketing in the Bible, rebuilding from
- 11:17Speaker 1: scratch in the Bible. launches in the bible like you
- 11:20Speaker 1: can find models for these things so that was the
- 11:22Speaker 1: first thing of like whose blueprint are you looking at
- 11:25Speaker 1: are you going to the word for the blueprint but
- 11:27Speaker 1: then even within that framing he started talking to me
- 11:30Speaker 1: then about two kingdom people can have similar purpose and
- 11:33Speaker 1: different assignments so we can both call to evangelize or
- 11:38Speaker 1: to draw people to christ but he may give you
- 11:40Speaker 1: a a blueprint for evangelism it doesn't look like mine
- 11:43Speaker 1: right And so am I now assuming similar calls, similar
- 11:47Speaker 1: audiences mean similar assignments and similar process? Like how much
- 11:51Speaker 1: are we duplicating? And so that's where it really got to.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So I started, I started them looking at what are
- 11:57Speaker 1: the things that I, that I have skipped over that
- 11:59Speaker 1: you have already gifted me and empowered me to do
- 12:01Speaker 1: with ease. As opposed to the things that I've decided
- 12:06Speaker 1: I needed to do because somebody else's success required that path. Right.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And so then I started realizing I wasn't just borrowing
- 12:14Speaker 1: the world's blueprints. I was also borrowing the blueprints of
- 12:17Speaker 1: who I thought was successful and assuming that I had
- 12:20Speaker 1: to do it their way.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Joy, just let that be for one second. Because that
- 12:34Speaker 4: is so real. Like I'm going to sit here like
- 12:36Speaker 4: reevaluating myself right now. Like, okay, I guess this would
- 12:40Speaker 4: be a good segue of what you were trying to
- 12:42Speaker 4: call me.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Out on before this.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Okay, so when I met Joy in November of last year,
- 12:50Speaker 4: I was just so in awe.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Like, doesn't worry, she ate down. She ate down.
- 12:57Speaker 4: And I learned about planes in ways I didn't know
- 13:00Speaker 4: I was going to learn about planes, okay? And I
- 13:06Speaker 4: sat there in that chair thinking, And I remember thinking
- 13:09Speaker 4: to myself, oh, my goodness, I would love to speak
- 13:13Speaker 4: with ease like she did.
- 13:15Speaker 2: She taught. She spoke well. She was confident.
- 13:20Speaker 4: And we talk about the success of people. You were
- 13:23Speaker 4: an example of success for me. And you had been
- 13:27Speaker 4: asked to speak. I'd been asked to host the same event.
- 13:31Speaker 4: In the same event, two different roles, two different positions.
- 13:34Speaker 4: But I was, I won't even say envious, but I
- 13:38Speaker 4: admired your ability to manage your assignment so well that
- 13:44Speaker 4: it attracted me to your table and said- hey, I
- 13:46Speaker 4: want to learn how to speak like that. I'm going
- 13:50Speaker 4: to give you the floor. Let the people know your
- 13:53Speaker 4: problem and your response with what I said.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So one, and I don't think it was comparison in
- 14:04Speaker 1: that way. I think that because you are growing and looking,
- 14:08Speaker 1: you're like, what's my mix, right? Like I would like
- 14:11Speaker 1: a little bit of that and a little bit of that.
- 14:12Speaker 1: So I can take it in a way. I think
- 14:14Speaker 1: that sometimes when we do that though, we overlook the
- 14:17Speaker 1: weight of what we carry. So let's be clear. I
- 14:20Speaker 1: came to an event with a topic that was emailed
- 14:26Speaker 1: to me that I had time to like sit in
- 14:28Speaker 1: and process. And then I was on a panel for
- 14:31Speaker 1: a little bit and I had questions that I hadn't
- 14:34Speaker 1: necessarily seen or didn't know how they were going to come,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but I had to like think on my feet and
- 14:37Speaker 1: move through those answers. And so that was my assignment.
- 14:41Speaker 1: One day of an event. Jess had dismissed the fact
- 14:45Speaker 1: that she was emceeing an event, which means that she
- 14:48Speaker 1: had to move us through from Rika doing worship to
- 14:51Speaker 1: this one doing that, to not knowing what any speaker
- 14:54Speaker 1: was going to say, but having to regather the room
- 14:57Speaker 1: after the speaker and then hold space and move us
- 14:59Speaker 1: into the next person. That she literally was weaving through
- 15:02Speaker 1: an event. And so while it looked like my assignment
- 15:05Speaker 1: was bigger than because I had this blocked amount of time.
- 15:08Speaker 1: She literally had to, without a lot of prompting in
- 15:12Speaker 1: some areas, because she definitely didn't have my slides, had
- 15:15Speaker 1: to move from one speaker to the next, had to
- 15:17Speaker 1: shift the atmosphere of the room. Then she, I think
- 15:20Speaker 1: when worship ended, she turned into a singer for a
- 15:22Speaker 1: few minutes and brought us out of the song back
- 15:24Speaker 1: into the room to settle us down, to get what
- 15:27Speaker 1: we needed to get. She was a comedian at some moments.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Then she moderated the panel. So coming up with the
- 15:32Speaker 1: questions and being able to move from speaker to speaker,
- 15:34Speaker 1: a whole space. Like, In order to be in awe
- 15:37Speaker 1: of me, she had to almost like minimize all that
- 15:40Speaker 1: she had done for that weekend. And so my moment
- 15:43Speaker 1: at that table was more so like, girl speaker, you
- 15:47Speaker 1: just had the mic for three days. What we mean?
- 15:50Speaker 1: So what is it that you're exactly looking for? And
- 15:53Speaker 1: you were doing it with ease and ease to us, right?
- 15:58Speaker 1: Because y'all don't know what I go through. It looked
- 16:00Speaker 1: like ease because I'm talking low. because I know my content.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I study my information, but I'm nervous. I had to
- 16:08Speaker 1: get up. I think I got up in front of
- 16:11Speaker 1: my bishops. I knew she was coming after me and
- 16:13Speaker 1: she comes in like a hurricane. So now I'm trying
- 16:16Speaker 1: to figure out how I land this plane. Yes, it's
- 16:18Speaker 1: a bit of comparison that I got sandwiched between. I
- 16:21Speaker 1: believe Rika opened up in worship and I know I
- 16:24Speaker 1: was a bishop. So I'm sandwiched between people who are
- 16:29Speaker 1: stylistically a lot more charismatic than I am. I sometimes
- 16:32Speaker 1: hear myself, like, I feel like I'm bringing the room
- 16:34Speaker 1: down to like this very thoughtful, like monotone space. But
- 16:38Speaker 1: I had, I was battling all that to get up
- 16:40Speaker 1: and stand in my assignment. But I had to remind
- 16:43Speaker 1: myself while I love my bishop and I was in
- 16:45Speaker 1: all these people, I'm on the same flyer, right? Like
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'm in the same space. And so I think that
- 16:50Speaker 1: was the moment for you. And then to have come
- 16:53Speaker 1: out of the event because I didn't know you before
- 16:54Speaker 1: that and to look at your stuff and be like,
- 16:57Speaker 1: I know, I know, I know you're lying. That this
- 17:00Speaker 1: is what I asked you to do. about speaking when,
- 17:05Speaker 1: let's be candid, you've been on stages I haven't been
- 17:07Speaker 1: invited to, right? Around people, the caliber of individuals I
- 17:11Speaker 1: haven't yet met. So while we're doing this, right, let's
- 17:15Speaker 1: be clear. So I think that was the moment, but
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think it was important for me to say back
- 17:22Speaker 1: to you, I could have been like, well, here's how
- 17:23Speaker 1: you could be a better speaker. I could have gave
- 17:26Speaker 1: my three points in conclusion. It was important for me
- 17:29Speaker 1: to say, hey, actually you are already the thing that
- 17:33Speaker 1: you aspire to be. And you just got to know
- 17:35Speaker 1: that you already it and, and see the value in
- 17:39Speaker 1: the role that he's putting you in. You're speaking over
- 17:42Speaker 1: all of us, right? You're, you're, you're creating the atmosphere
- 17:46Speaker 1: that all of us get to walk into. I may
- 17:49Speaker 1: have spoken better because of the atmosphere that you were
- 17:51Speaker 1: pivotal in creating that ease is part of the anointing
- 17:55Speaker 1: on your life. And you have to see that. So again,
- 17:57Speaker 1: we talk about the borrowed blueprints, right? Or we talk
- 18:01Speaker 1: about those things. It's easy sometimes to see somebody and
- 18:03Speaker 1: start trying to figure out how to be that. When
- 18:07Speaker 1: the blueprint that God gave you and the skills that
- 18:08Speaker 1: he gave you already allows you to move and ease
- 18:11Speaker 1: the way he's called you to do. And so we
- 18:13Speaker 1: can get clear about purpose and we can refine assignment
- 18:17Speaker 1: and we can look at how we show up in
- 18:19Speaker 1: assignment and identify different graces that people carry, different skill
- 18:23Speaker 1: sets that we value in ways that help us refine
- 18:28Speaker 1: how we show up in assignment. But you already is.
- 18:32Speaker 4: I think, first of all, your interpretation of....
- 18:38Speaker 1: Your interpretation is just glorified, okay?
- 18:42Speaker 2: It comes from the third heaven. You hear me? Because
- 18:47Speaker 2: that's one thing that I have struggled with. You know
- 18:51Speaker 2: what I'm saying?
- 18:51Speaker 4: It's like... Looking to, like, you're right. I did diminish
- 18:56Speaker 4: myself in that moment. And I didn't think of it
- 18:59Speaker 4: until you brought it up. It's like, hold up, what
- 19:01Speaker 4: are you talking about? Because it would have, like you said,
- 19:03Speaker 4: it would have been easy for you to say, oh,
- 19:05Speaker 4: this is how you become a speaker, X, Y, and Z.
- 19:06Speaker 4: And we look, thank you, Holy Spirit, we look so much,
- 19:09Speaker 4: so forward to being an expert in a thing and
- 19:11Speaker 4: not the help. Not the help that meets, right? Especially
- 19:15Speaker 4: with us being women, right? Because that's what we were
- 19:17Speaker 4: created as, like, help meets. And it's not just for
- 19:19Speaker 4: a man.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:22Speaker 4: That's not, I don't know who need to hear that,
- 19:24Speaker 4: but I feel a little oil on it. That's the
- 19:27Speaker 4: help me is not just.
- 19:28Speaker 2: For the man. It's for my sister in Christ.
- 19:31Speaker 4: It's for me and joy get to help each other
- 19:33Speaker 4: and we get to do relationship while we help each other.
- 19:36Speaker 4: And so I think it goes back to the point
- 19:38Speaker 4: where you were talking about, um, being in the, having
- 19:41Speaker 4: the same type of title or like position, but different assignments.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I think especially us as believers struggle with that because
- 19:49Speaker 4: church is really teaches us.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Hey, the evangelist does this. The prophet does this. The
- 19:54Speaker 2: apostle does it. The teacher does that.
- 20:00Speaker 4: How do you help navigate people out of there?
- 20:04Speaker 2: Because I know we deal with a lot of believers.
- 20:06Speaker 4: You help believers put strategies with their faith, right?
- 20:11Speaker 2: You help build strategies around their faith.
- 20:14Speaker 4: And so I wonder like how, how that, how that navigation,
- 20:19Speaker 4: what that navigation looks like for people that are structured
- 20:22Speaker 4: to believe that because I am called to this part
- 20:26Speaker 4: of the five fold or not, this is what I'm
- 20:29Speaker 4: supposed to do. And this is what it's supposed to
- 20:32Speaker 4: look like. What, how do you navigate that with people?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Cause you see, she didn't pull it out at all.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Her face, the face was like, Oh, this is.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Oh, um, I'm going to go to Ephesians 4 because,
- 20:45Speaker 1: you know, we're Christian. I want to read this because
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think we don't, we, yeah. Ephesians 4 and 11 says,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and he gave some apostles and some prophets and some
- 20:58Speaker 1: evangelists and some pastors and some teachers. Verse 12. For
- 21:02Speaker 1: the perfecting of the saints. This is the purpose. He
- 21:06Speaker 1: gave these for a purpose. Perfecting of the saints. Work
- 21:10Speaker 1: of the ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ.
- 21:14Speaker 1: but there's a colon there, so that means we keep reading. 13,
- 21:17Speaker 1: till we all come in the unity of the faith
- 21:22Speaker 1: and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto
- 21:24Speaker 1: a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of
- 21:26Speaker 1: the fullness of Christ, another colon, that we henceforth be
- 21:31Speaker 1: no more children to us to unfurl. It begins to
- 21:34Speaker 1: talk through. If you read from 11, each of those
- 21:38Speaker 1: verses ends with either a colon or a semicolon. And
- 21:41Speaker 1: verse 16 is where the sentence ends. It says, for
- 21:43Speaker 1: whom the whole body fitly joint together and compacted by
- 21:48Speaker 1: that which every joint supplier, according to the effectual working
- 21:52Speaker 1: and the measure of every part, make an increase of
- 21:55Speaker 1: the body unto the edifying of itself in love. Go
- 21:58Speaker 1: back and read it a message because sometimes it keeps
- 22:00Speaker 1: James and NSBB taking us down at the end of
- 22:02Speaker 1: that rabbit hole. But when we look through it, we
- 22:05Speaker 1: have made the fivefold church administrative titles. and not titles
- 22:10Speaker 1: that edify the body until we all come into the
- 22:14Speaker 1: unity of the faith. So we have assigned the pastor,
- 22:18Speaker 1: the prophet, the apostle, the teacher, the evangelist to the church,
- 22:22Speaker 1: not the ecclesia, but the church building or the church
- 22:26Speaker 1: structuring the way we set it up, right? And so
- 22:29Speaker 1: we only have taught people to operate in that model, right?
- 22:33Speaker 1: So what does it mean if I am a pastor
- 22:36Speaker 1: without a pulpit and a four wall building? Have I
- 22:41Speaker 1: been taught what pastoring means, which is to shepherd people
- 22:45Speaker 1: and to shepherd them and to cover them and to
- 22:48Speaker 1: protect them and to whatever. What do I do as
- 22:51Speaker 1: a prophet that is not called to a, you in
- 22:57Speaker 1: the back, stand up. I see that you have on
- 23:00Speaker 1: yellow socks, even though I can't see your top.
- 23:04Speaker 2: What is a prophet?
- 23:05Speaker 1: If we go back to actual biblical pattern, let's be clear.
- 23:08Speaker 1: We see prophets that had nothing to do with churches.
- 23:11Speaker 1: They were assigned to kings. They gave war strategy. They
- 23:16Speaker 1: gave information. They gave intel. They downloaded. The first set
- 23:20Speaker 1: of apostles were not released to churches. They were sent
- 23:23Speaker 1: to go out and build, right, and expand. Jesus spends
- 23:28Speaker 1: his years in the earth not teaching religion or church.
- 23:32Speaker 1: He taught kingdoms. And when we think about even the
- 23:35Speaker 1: ecclesia and what that was designed to be, the ecclesia,
- 23:38Speaker 1: what we call church, was actually a military term that
- 23:41Speaker 1: is a governed body. It's a called out instead of
- 23:43Speaker 1: individuals that governs and rules and reigns. Apostles or apostolic,
- 23:48Speaker 1: some of these words, even adjutancy, some of these words
- 23:51Speaker 1: have become, these are military terms that are assigned to
- 23:54Speaker 1: how we war, how we advance, how we protect. how
- 23:57Speaker 1: we move. So unfortunately, many of us are being called
- 24:01Speaker 1: into kingdom assignments when we've only been taught church. So
- 24:05Speaker 1: I don't know what my assignment looks like. I don't
- 24:07Speaker 1: know what it is to be an evangelist other than
- 24:10Speaker 1: me jumping on planes and being on stages. No one
- 24:13Speaker 1: taught me what it was to be an evangelist in
- 24:15Speaker 1: my job, an evangelist at Walmart, an evangelist at the
- 24:19Speaker 1: bus stop, an evangelist. No one's teaching me what it
- 24:22Speaker 1: is to be a prophet or explaining to me how
- 24:26Speaker 1: apostoling It's so connected to entrepreneurship that I don't know
- 24:29Speaker 1: how we don't even understand how most entrepreneurs have an
- 24:32Speaker 1: apostolic calling to plant and to build something. Right. And
- 24:36Speaker 1: so we start thinking about what that looks like. It
- 24:39Speaker 1: really requires us again. I'm saying this and but some
- 24:45Speaker 1: of us are building church or borrow blueprint because that
- 24:47Speaker 1: is the blueprint God gave us. Kingdom. So when we
- 24:52Speaker 1: start thinking about if the church now is the focus
- 24:56Speaker 1: is that we got to maintain this mortgage because we
- 24:58Speaker 1: bought this building and the focus now becomes the sustaining
- 25:02Speaker 1: of a edifice or a ministry has to remain successful
- 25:06Speaker 1: because we got to pay everybody. Like if this becomes
- 25:09Speaker 1: a focus, that's not the model that God, that Jesus
- 25:13Speaker 1: left us with that God intended for us to have.
- 25:15Speaker 1: So again, this borrow blueprints conversation is not, you know,
- 25:20Speaker 1: we're not going to keep it small. It lends into
- 25:23Speaker 1: even as big as are many of our churches being
- 25:26Speaker 1: built off of blueprints that God did not give us
- 25:30Speaker 1: for what church and what even the assembling of the
- 25:33Speaker 1: saints and all these things was supposed to look like,
- 25:34Speaker 1: feel like, and be like. And so to your question,
- 25:37Speaker 1: most of the things what God gave me was the
- 25:40Speaker 1: assignment that he gave me before I even talked to you.
- 25:42Speaker 1: So now I know that heaven is in concert is
- 25:45Speaker 1: to build builders heaven can trust. Can I trust you
- 25:49Speaker 1: to carry me? the blueprint that I gave you? Can
- 25:51Speaker 1: I trust Noah's that are willing to be handed a
- 25:54Speaker 1: blueprint that does not make sense and to build it
- 25:57Speaker 1: against the commentary of the people that we love and respect?
- 26:01Speaker 1: Because I know that not only this assignment came from heaven,
- 26:04Speaker 1: but the blueprint and the instructions to build it came
- 26:06Speaker 1: from heaven. And so I do think that what we're
- 26:09Speaker 1: grappling with and what you named and called out is
- 26:13Speaker 1: there is this thing of, I know I'm called to something,
- 26:19Speaker 1: But the only way I've ever seen it operate is this.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And so what do I do when I know I'm
- 26:24Speaker 1: caught to something that has a model that I have
- 26:27Speaker 1: yet to see? I've got to go back to the
- 26:30Speaker 1: one that caught me.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And so it's starting now. We're in a space where
- 26:34Speaker 1: God is pulling a lot of our dependence off of
- 26:37Speaker 1: the validation of people that we love, respect and regard
- 26:40Speaker 1: and saying, but what did I say? Because you've got
- 26:42Speaker 1: to come back to this blueprint for this model. Noah
- 26:45Speaker 1: couldn't go to his father about how to build that boat. Right.
- 26:49Speaker 1: This Abraham had to get up and go to a
- 26:53Speaker 1: place that he would be sent. He couldn't ask his
- 26:55Speaker 1: father about how this obedience works. And so we I
- 26:58Speaker 1: love a culture of respect and regard. I love a
- 27:00Speaker 1: culture that says we don't abandon the elders and we
- 27:03Speaker 1: hear what it is. But you can create that in
- 27:07Speaker 1: such a way that it becomes so codependent that I
- 27:10Speaker 1: can't do anything new because of the elder can't tell
- 27:13Speaker 1: me how to do it. I can't do it. Well,
- 27:15Speaker 1: how do we ever innovate? How do we ever evolve
- 27:18Speaker 1: if I need the reliance on somebody else who's already
- 27:22Speaker 1: done it a way to tell me how to do it?
- 27:24Speaker 1: And how do I ever do the new thing? What
- 27:27Speaker 1: did he say? I will do a new thing. You
- 27:28Speaker 1: ain't seen this. You ain't seen. Eyes have not seen.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Ears have not heard. How do we navigate that when
- 27:35Speaker 1: I got to keep coming back to you to ask
- 27:36Speaker 1: you for the next instruction? Jesus. You're God enough. When
- 27:40Speaker 1: do we have that moment that Samuel had to have
- 27:43Speaker 1: with Eli, where he was like, go back and ask God.
- 27:46Speaker 1: God is calling you, right? Eli had to have enough
- 27:48Speaker 1: wisdom to say, it's not me calling you. God is
- 27:51Speaker 1: calling you. You got to go back to him. And
- 27:53Speaker 1: so there is a level of how we have to
- 27:56Speaker 1: reframe discipleship. I'm going to say this and I'm going
- 27:57Speaker 1: to pause here because I know my answers could be
- 27:59Speaker 1: long sometimes.
- 27:59Speaker 2: No, you're talking real good, Joy.
- 28:02Speaker 1: And I may have said this before, in our discipleship model,
- 28:06Speaker 1: the first thing he took me back to was when
- 28:09Speaker 1: Jesus calls Andrew and Simon. When he calls them, he
- 28:13Speaker 1: finds them fishing. And he says to them, I'm going
- 28:16Speaker 1: to make you fishers of men. Now, this don't sound
- 28:19Speaker 1: like nothing big, but for the fact that Jesus was
- 28:21Speaker 1: a carpenter. Jesus was not a fisherman. How is Jesus
- 28:25Speaker 1: going to teach them how to be an expert in
- 28:28Speaker 1: a craft that he is not an expert in based
- 28:31Speaker 1: on he only know him to be a carpenter? What
- 28:33Speaker 1: he understood was that I'm not calling to teach you
- 28:36Speaker 1: how to fish. You already know how to be a fisherman.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I'm teaching you how to take what you already know
- 28:41Speaker 1: how to do and put it in a kingdom construct.
- 28:44Speaker 1: So he doesn't tell him, I'm going to teach you
- 28:45Speaker 1: how to fish. They are fishing experts, right? He's a carpenter.
- 28:51Speaker 1: What he's telling them is I'm going to teach you
- 28:52Speaker 1: how to take your fisherman skillset and apply it to
- 28:56Speaker 1: this thing of evangelism or this thing of birthing out
- 28:59Speaker 1: this kingdom because that's what I know how to do.
- 29:01Speaker 1: We have lost the idea of being able to be
- 29:04Speaker 1: carpenters that can create fishes of men. Instead, we want
- 29:07Speaker 1: to make everybody a duplication of who we are. So
- 29:11Speaker 1: I'm a carpenter and I believe that discipleship means that
- 29:13Speaker 1: you've got to be a carpenter, too. It is not
- 29:15Speaker 1: my job to make you me. It is my job
- 29:18Speaker 1: to understand, to teach you how to live in your
- 29:21Speaker 1: gift and to live in your assignment. And so what
- 29:23Speaker 1: I love about the story is that we keep reading
- 29:26Speaker 1: when we get to the end. To the miracle of
- 29:29Speaker 1: the fishes and loaves, which we all know that miracle,
- 29:32Speaker 1: we get to the place and he's sitting down feeding
- 29:33Speaker 1: the multitude. And we love to talk about there were
- 29:36Speaker 1: 12 baskets and we love to talk about there was overflowing,
- 29:39Speaker 1: how he blessed it. and break it. I've heard this
- 29:41Speaker 1: preached in all the directions. What we forget to see
- 29:44Speaker 1: is that it was Andrew that saw fish. It wasn't
- 29:47Speaker 1: a lot of fish. It was only two. And it
- 29:50Speaker 1: may not have even seen significant, but the fishermen saw fish.
- 29:55Speaker 1: What would happen in the body of Christ if we
- 29:57Speaker 1: let fishermen see fish? and just taught them how to
- 30:00Speaker 1: multiply what they saw. So in that moment, Jesus allows
- 30:03Speaker 1: him to see fish and teaches him how to multiply
- 30:06Speaker 1: what he sees. He never changes his vision. He teaches
- 30:09Speaker 1: him a multiplying model. And so we have to reframe
- 30:13Speaker 1: discipleship to stop cloning people and start teaching people how
- 30:17Speaker 1: to multiply. So when you ask me, how do I
- 30:19Speaker 1: apply this when I'm talking to people? My thing is,
- 30:21Speaker 1: it's my job to turn you into anything. It's my
- 30:24Speaker 1: job to allow you to see that who you are
- 30:27Speaker 1: How do you take who you are and multiply? How
- 30:29Speaker 1: do you take who you are and become a blank
- 30:32Speaker 1: of men? So if you are a podcaster, become a
- 30:34Speaker 1: podcast of men. If you are a dance instructor, become a,
- 30:37Speaker 1: how do I take you, tell you how to take
- 30:39Speaker 1: what you do? And it doesn't ever apply, require me
- 30:42Speaker 1: then to be the expert on anything other than what
- 30:46Speaker 1: is God showing me as it relates. So again, back
- 30:48Speaker 1: to the, when you asked me, Hey, about being a speaker,
- 30:50Speaker 1: it wasn't my job to be the expert in that moment.
- 30:54Speaker 1: It was my job to help you see your impact
- 30:56Speaker 1: on men. How do you multiply what you already got?
- 30:59Speaker 1: That is the piece. When we talk about the prophetic
- 31:02Speaker 1: and the apostolic and all these fivefold gifts, if we
- 31:05Speaker 1: would stop trying to put people in a box of
- 31:07Speaker 1: how this calling is supposed to be defined and teach
- 31:10Speaker 1: people how to just be blanks of men, whatever fits
- 31:15Speaker 1: that word for you, we wouldn't battle so much. We
- 31:18Speaker 1: wouldn't battle so much. Teach people how to follow God.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Right?
- 31:22Speaker 1: And they will get to where they need to be.
- 31:31Speaker 4: I'm laughing because I want to scream so bad right now.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Oh, Joy. I know when I talk to... You be
- 31:42Speaker 2: taking us fast. When I talk to Joy... And it's
- 31:45Speaker 2: the thing. This is a daily thing. This is not
- 31:49Speaker 2: just because she on the podcast.
- 31:51Speaker 4: You, everybody can't be Joyfriend. Everybody can't, because it would
- 31:55Speaker 4: be too much for people. She can, I can ask,
- 31:58Speaker 4: she don't get these, nobody get questions before. So for
- 32:01Speaker 4: her to be able to regurgitate and then like wrap
- 32:03Speaker 4: it back around, because we're still talking about half-built houses
- 32:06Speaker 4: because the problem is, Joy, what I'm seeing is because
- 32:10Speaker 4: we're not encouraged to be the expert of men, the
- 32:14Speaker 4: blank of men in our territory, that's the reason why
- 32:18Speaker 4: we have the half-built house.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Because now I'm taking a blueprint that's not mine. And
- 32:24Speaker 4: because the blueprint is not mine, it goes back to
- 32:27Speaker 4: the point of I'm not able to finish something I
- 32:30Speaker 4: started because it was never mine to start in the
- 32:33Speaker 4: first place. And I think that I think it's so
- 32:36Speaker 4: important to know because I will say this.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I will say this.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Sometimes I catch myself in my mind, Joya. of being
- 32:45Speaker 4: the prophetic voice. And my best friend Bree has told
- 32:50Speaker 4: Desiree and I, like with the podcast, This is like
- 32:52Speaker 4: a pastoral grace. And so just honoring the pastoral grace.
- 32:56Speaker 2: And it made me cringe. I was like, uh-uh. I
- 32:59Speaker 2: don't want that. You know what I'm saying?
- 33:01Speaker 4: But it is what it is. You get what I'm saying?
- 33:03Speaker 4: It's shepherding men, you know? And so just embracing that.
- 33:06Speaker 4: But then it's like, but what if I'm like, but
- 33:08Speaker 4: this looks so different than what I'm accustomed to. How
- 33:11Speaker 4: do I embrace something when I'm told? I'm literally a
- 33:15Speaker 4: pictures kid, right? I grew up in church.
- 33:18Speaker 2: I understand the structure of church. I know the good, bad,
- 33:21Speaker 2: and the ugly. All right. That's why I want to
- 33:24Speaker 2: be a part of it.
- 33:27Speaker 4: But it's so important because I think that because I've
- 33:31Speaker 4: embraced this without the language of this is what this is,
- 33:36Speaker 4: I think bringing the language saying, oh, okay, it heightens
- 33:40Speaker 4: the responsibility. But I don't want to I want to
- 33:44Speaker 4: put a pin in this because we might come back
- 33:46Speaker 4: to this. But I want to ask you a question
- 33:48Speaker 4: because I think for people that are, especially that are
- 33:52Speaker 4: just entering the faith and that are even navigating through it,
- 33:57Speaker 4: I didn't understand the power of spiritual responsibility to each
- 34:02Speaker 4: other and what that looks like. So sometimes people hear
- 34:06Speaker 4: me talk about my coach and also my spiritual mother, Dr. D.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Funby.
- 34:12Speaker 4: And they don't understand the connection with what we have
- 34:17Speaker 4: and how much impact on my house that I'm building
- 34:21Speaker 4: that she has. And so I thought it was interesting
- 34:23Speaker 4: that you dedicated this to Bishop Connie. And I want
- 34:27Speaker 4: to know why, like what that relationship is to you.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Why did you dedicate this book to her and how
- 34:35Speaker 4: she's helped you navigate building your house?
- 34:39Speaker 1: I don't know why I got teary.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I was about to say, oh my gosh.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yeah, these questions ain't scripted. Okay, so. I don't even
- 34:56Speaker 1: know where that came from. So, I met Bishop Connie in...
- 35:06Speaker 1: When things were well, I met Bishop Connie in 2022.
- 35:15Speaker 1: And my business was doing well. Let me put that correctly. Financially,
- 35:21Speaker 1: I was doing well. I met her in a marketplace context.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I was actually coming in to be a speaker at
- 35:27Speaker 1: an event. And she was almost like my handler at
- 35:30Speaker 1: the event. She made sure I knew my call time.
- 35:33Speaker 1: staging time. So I did not meet her as Bishop Connie.
- 35:35Speaker 1: I met her as Coach Connie, Dr. C. That's how
- 35:38Speaker 1: I met her. I had been working with this community.
- 35:41Speaker 1: And so I was doing, at that time, we were
- 35:42Speaker 1: doing HR for the culture. I was doing some of
- 35:45Speaker 1: the HR consulting. I would come on and do like
- 35:47Speaker 1: different classes and things with their people and their membership.
- 35:51Speaker 1: So I met her there. So she would be like, hey,
- 35:52Speaker 1: are you jumping on the call? I'd be running late.
- 35:54Speaker 1: You know, she was like the person that was like
- 35:56Speaker 1: making sure I stayed on. So when I met her
- 35:58Speaker 1: in person, she was moving through And, um, I don't
- 36:02Speaker 1: even know, I can't, I don't know when the relationship shifted.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I can't tell you what conversation it was. Um, but
- 36:09Speaker 1: we would end up being on the phone. I would
- 36:10Speaker 1: end up speaking to her about things because she would
- 36:14Speaker 1: ask me a question or, um, we would just be
- 36:16Speaker 1: preparing for something. So she had to like dig in.
- 36:19Speaker 1: And so, um, I remember the event that we did
- 36:21Speaker 1: in person. She had been coach Connie all weekend, but
- 36:25Speaker 1: that Sunday they had, they set the event to be
- 36:27Speaker 1: more like a church event. And so they were like,
- 36:31Speaker 1: they are introducing Bishop Stewart. And I don't know who
- 36:34Speaker 1: that is. So I'm waiting for Bishop Stewart to come out.
- 36:38Speaker 1: And it's Coach Connie. And when I tell you, you've
- 36:41Speaker 1: seen her in action. And she walked down. But she
- 36:47Speaker 1: also prayed for me at that event. And I had
- 36:50Speaker 1: lost my mom some months prior. I had gone through
- 36:54Speaker 1: a divorce some months prior. And I think at this
- 36:59Speaker 1: point I may have also buried my grandmother. So there
- 37:01Speaker 1: was a lot that had gone on in like a
- 37:02Speaker 1: one year and a 12 month span. And she prayed
- 37:05Speaker 1: for me without having a lot of insight into like
- 37:07Speaker 1: deep into my personal life. And from that moment, it
- 37:10Speaker 1: just felt like she was somebody I could speak to.
- 37:11Speaker 1: So I think I may have like, can I ask
- 37:13Speaker 1: you a question? Cause I'll, I'll, I come in light.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Can I just ask you? And we were having a
- 37:18Speaker 1: particular conversation one day. And so she asked me randomly
- 37:22Speaker 1: what I was doing in ministry. And I was like, well, Now,
- 37:28Speaker 1: like you, I'm a preacher's kid, preacher's grandkid. I was
- 37:33Speaker 1: going back, my grandfather was literally the president at a
- 37:35Speaker 1: National Baptist Ministries Conference during his time. He was the
- 37:39Speaker 1: executive secretary of the Presbyterian Council. Like, I come from
- 37:42Speaker 1: people who did stuff, right? And so I come from
- 37:48Speaker 1: a rich lineage. It just, I don't know, it didn't
- 37:51Speaker 1: land in me the same way, right? Like my call
- 37:54Speaker 1: to it. So at 16, I was a worship leader
- 37:56Speaker 1: at my church. I ran a youth program called Arise.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Like I came out of ministry and then I left it.
- 38:02Speaker 1: And I would always look back and be like, I
- 38:04Speaker 1: didn't stay in long enough to matriculate. So like, I
- 38:07Speaker 1: didn't get my, I can't say that I've been preaching.
- 38:08Speaker 1: You know, people are like, I've been preaching for 45 years.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I left, right? I left and went into marketplace work.
- 38:15Speaker 1: But she asked me what I was doing about ministry.
- 38:16Speaker 1: And I remember saying to her, like, you know, it
- 38:19Speaker 1: was some, I've never felt like ministry wanted me. And
- 38:22Speaker 1: at the point that I decided that I could lean in,
- 38:25Speaker 1: like I was always too analytical. You know, I didn't
- 38:27Speaker 1: have enough faith because I was too logistical, all those things.
- 38:30Speaker 1: So I never knew where I fit. Everybody wanted me
- 38:33Speaker 1: to make me a church admin. I didn't think that's
- 38:35Speaker 1: what I was called to. I didn't mind the work,
- 38:37Speaker 1: but I didn't think that was it. And then at
- 38:39Speaker 1: a point that my life was out of alignment, I
- 38:42Speaker 1: didn't want to do anything that touched anything sacred. So
- 38:45Speaker 1: I would only want to do the back stuff because
- 38:47Speaker 1: I knew my life wasn't in alignment. And so she
- 38:50Speaker 1: finally said to me, she was like, you don't have
- 38:53Speaker 1: to chase it. And then I said, then it became
- 38:55Speaker 1: a carrot. where people dangle it in front of you.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Like if you serve, if you slave here long enough,
- 39:00Speaker 1: we'll rank you up at some point. And I didn't
- 39:02Speaker 1: want that. And so she finally said, I'm not asking
- 39:05Speaker 1: you to chase it, but you don't have to run
- 39:08Speaker 1: from it either. And so I sat with that. And
- 39:12Speaker 1: so it opened my mind back up to like, well,
- 39:15Speaker 1: what would that look like? At the time I was
- 39:17Speaker 1: attending a church that I don't have the name. And
- 39:22Speaker 1: they had a hierarchical structure where It was like, I
- 39:26Speaker 1: had to be there for so many years, I guess,
- 39:28Speaker 1: to even be licensed to do anything. Although I was
- 39:30Speaker 1: doing work in ministry, I was doing with Faith Me
- 39:31Speaker 1: Strategy at that time. People were inviting me to speak
- 39:34Speaker 1: and they would always do that awkward, like, what do
- 39:36Speaker 1: we call you? And it would be like, Sister Joyous, like,
- 39:39Speaker 1: you know, whatever it is. And so she finally said, well,
- 39:44Speaker 1: I'll license you. Like, I have a fellowship. I don't
- 39:46Speaker 1: want to disregard your pastor. I'm happy to talk to them. And,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know, get whatever clearances. But, like, if that's all
- 39:52Speaker 1: it is, is that you just need somebody. Like, you
- 39:55Speaker 1: need somebody to say that you're legit in these ministry streets.
- 39:58Speaker 1: And so, we didn't do no fancy ordination. She didn't
- 40:02Speaker 1: charge me to fly her in. Like, it wasn't any
- 40:06Speaker 1: of that stuff. She had a conversation with my pastor.
- 40:08Speaker 1: My pastor at the time was like, if you license her,
- 40:10Speaker 1: we'll honor it here. Right? That she came with this
- 40:13Speaker 1: license and we'll honor it. So, that was the agreement.
- 40:16Speaker 1: She licensed me. They honored it. And then it was
- 40:19Speaker 1: Minister Joy. And she never put anything on it. When
- 40:22Speaker 1: I then relaunched my Faith Me strategy, she put, I think,
- 40:25Speaker 1: her and about five or six of her leaders on
- 40:27Speaker 1: a plane and flew from Houston to New York to
- 40:30Speaker 1: sit in the room, to take notes, to not be centered,
- 40:34Speaker 1: to not be staged, just to sit in a room.
- 40:36Speaker 1: And when my business broke, I remember one event, we
- 40:39Speaker 1: were on the phone and I was trying to figure
- 40:41Speaker 1: out my hair. And I was like, I'm just going
- 40:45Speaker 1: to wear a puff. It was just something like, I'm
- 40:46Speaker 1: just going to, she was like, you're not. And I
- 40:49Speaker 1: get a ping on my cash app and she sent
- 40:52Speaker 1: me a decent amount of money to get my hair
- 40:55Speaker 1: done for an event. Like, and so when I moved,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I knew God was telling me to move to Houston.
- 41:02Speaker 1: She never told me to move. When I got here, actually,
- 41:04Speaker 1: I had to ask her, like, did God tell you
- 41:07Speaker 1: I was supposed to be here? Cause you ain't said nothing.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Like I didn't pack up my house. I'm waiting for
- 41:09Speaker 1: you to be like, whoa, I stand to be. I
- 41:11Speaker 1: ain't for nothing. And she said, I knew you were
- 41:15Speaker 1: supposed to be here, but you had to know that
- 41:18Speaker 1: has been, the confidant relationship. And what she didn't know
- 41:22Speaker 1: is when I was deciding on the move, I was
- 41:23Speaker 1: in a program and we were talking about the Elijah
- 41:26Speaker 1: and Elisha relationship. And we were at the point in
- 41:29Speaker 1: the study where it talks about how Elijah just kind
- 41:33Speaker 1: of threw this cloak on Elisha. And Elisha was like,
- 41:36Speaker 1: let me gather my things. I'm chasing after you. Like
- 41:39Speaker 1: I'm abandoning. And Elijah was kind of confused. Like, wait,
- 41:41Speaker 1: I just was doing what God, I would just, I
- 41:44Speaker 1: just threw this cloak. I didn't know what this was
- 41:45Speaker 1: going to mean. I'm in that week of study and
- 41:48Speaker 1: happened to be in Houston and I went to service.
- 41:51Speaker 1: She was preaching and she prayed for me. And at
- 41:53Speaker 1: the end I heard, I asked somebody hand me that.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I didn't know what it was. And she draped me
- 41:58Speaker 1: with something and was like, you're covered. And that was
- 42:00Speaker 1: my confirmation that like, without her having to say, God
- 42:04Speaker 1: had to give it to me in a way that
- 42:05Speaker 1: I wouldn't question it later. Cause this transition wasn't easy. Um,
- 42:09Speaker 1: but since in the transition and then being here, her
- 42:13Speaker 1: pour into me has been consistent. Um, She never has
- 42:17Speaker 1: allowed me to settle to be like, I'm just going
- 42:21Speaker 1: to use church gifts, but I'm still asking you about this.
- 42:24Speaker 1: What are you doing in the marketplace? What are you
- 42:25Speaker 1: doing about the assignment? What are you doing about the
- 42:27Speaker 1: quality of God on your life? She did not require
- 42:30Speaker 1: me to become somebody else. Stylistically, we are very different. Dress,
- 42:37Speaker 1: ministry style, like we are night and day. She never
- 42:40Speaker 1: forced me or never made me feel like I needed
- 42:43Speaker 1: to morph into another version of myself. I can be
- 42:47Speaker 1: completely honest with her. I told her my dirty dirt
- 42:51Speaker 1: before I even, like, hey, before you even licensed me,
- 42:53Speaker 1: let me give you all the things that made, it
- 42:56Speaker 1: was like, I don't know if she blinked on the phone,
- 42:58Speaker 1: but I didn't hear the blink come through the line. Like,
- 43:00Speaker 1: it was very supportive and engaging. And so, even in
- 43:03Speaker 1: this particular season, I had to think about, and I'm
- 43:07Speaker 1: saying this in not a braggartly way, but for context.
- 43:11Speaker 1: You know, I have a six-figure job, and I just
- 43:13Speaker 1: bought a house. And in some instances, I landed okay.
- 43:18Speaker 1: You know, my business fell apart, but I landed okay, right?
- 43:22Speaker 1: I got medical coverage. I landed okay. And she just
- 43:27Speaker 1: never lets me be okay. It's always like, I hear you,
- 43:31Speaker 1: but what you finna do? Where we finna go? And
- 43:34Speaker 1: so when I started writing this book, I don't even
- 43:38Speaker 1: think she knows that I wrote it, that it's in
- 43:42Speaker 1: there like that. But it was like, I can't write
- 43:44Speaker 1: something like this without honoring the person in this particular
- 43:48Speaker 1: season of my life who has not allowed me to
- 43:51Speaker 1: be okay in a half-built house of my own. To
- 43:54Speaker 1: kind of like prop something up real fast, to do
- 43:57Speaker 1: a thing. And what I will say about her, I've
- 44:00Speaker 1: worked with other bishops. I've worked with the people of God.
- 44:06Speaker 1: And I've seen a lot of people who have made
- 44:11Speaker 1: the ministries and the launches and the businesses of the
- 44:16Speaker 1: people that they, their sons and daughters, they have made
- 44:19Speaker 1: it their platform, part of their platform. So every time
- 44:23Speaker 1: one of these spiritual children do something, you got to
- 44:25Speaker 1: be centered on it. You got to be fluted. It's
- 44:29Speaker 1: a monetizing moment for you. It's an opportunity for you
- 44:32Speaker 1: to be visible. My bishop has emceed my events. She
- 44:36Speaker 1: has literally come and introduced me at events and went
- 44:39Speaker 1: and sat on the side and made sure I was good.
- 44:42Speaker 1: She has literally armor-beared me at an event where she
- 44:45Speaker 1: was like, you're going to pray for people. And she
- 44:47Speaker 1: wrapped her arm around me and walked me through the
- 44:49Speaker 1: room and wiped my face and made sure I was
- 44:51Speaker 1: sipping water while I was praying for folks. She's done that.
- 44:56Speaker 1: And I've watched her not just do it for me,
- 44:57Speaker 1: but for other people. And so I'm never going to
- 45:01Speaker 1: be the person that gets somewhere and doesn't remember the
- 45:04Speaker 1: people who allowed me to stand on their ankles, their shoulders,
- 45:07Speaker 1: their back, whatever. But for this particular book, it was
- 45:10Speaker 1: just really like, in the beginning, I dedicate to her
- 45:13Speaker 1: and at the end, I acknowledge the countervote joy community,
- 45:15Speaker 1: the people that have allowed me to be a scientist
- 45:18Speaker 1: on them and figure out my assignment while they're like
- 45:22Speaker 1: leaning in. But I don't think people understand, I don't
- 45:25Speaker 1: have living parents. I don't have living grandparents. And so
- 45:29Speaker 1: for somebody to, literally take me off the sidewalk and
- 45:34Speaker 1: to see and to speak into and to want me
- 45:36Speaker 1: to be big, not just want me to be capable
- 45:39Speaker 1: to build their stuff, but want me to be big
- 45:41Speaker 1: in my own stuff. This was a way to memorialize it.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I've said things to her, but this was a way
- 45:49Speaker 1: for me to memorialize that like that matters. And I
- 45:52Speaker 1: really endeavor when I think about people who I will mentor,
- 45:57Speaker 1: people who I will lead. I really want everyone, when
- 46:00Speaker 1: I think about you, demanding different ones. I want y'all
- 46:03Speaker 1: to be better than me. I never want y'all to
- 46:06Speaker 1: be stunted at or think that what I did was
- 46:09Speaker 1: so big. Like I literally want y'all to see it
- 46:11Speaker 1: through the lens of she did that. Let me do that.
- 46:14Speaker 1: And then like Jesus's model in the earth was in
- 46:17Speaker 1: greater works, right? We'll follow them. And so I'm grateful
- 46:23Speaker 1: that I have somebody that wants me to be great.
- 46:25Speaker 1: And I'm praying that I continue to stay in a
- 46:27Speaker 1: space where the people that get connected to me, that
- 46:29Speaker 1: my desire for them is always for them to be
- 46:32Speaker 1: able to look back at me and be like, you
- 46:35Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, I don't want them always
- 46:36Speaker 1: looking up to me. I want them to be able
- 46:38Speaker 1: to look back at me and know that they surpassed,
- 46:41Speaker 1: that they went further. So yeah, let's stop this because.
- 46:44Speaker 1: While I don't really got.
- 46:46Speaker 2: On no makeup, I don't need you. Listen, I was like,
- 46:50Speaker 2: oh child.
- 46:51Speaker 4: But no, you really, that's something that you, I don't
- 46:54Speaker 4: even think you, I don't know if you realize you
- 46:56Speaker 4: say it. Like anytime we on the phone, you were like, Jessica,
- 46:58Speaker 4: I just want you to be great. That's every conversation.
- 47:01Speaker 4: That's every conversation. And so you deserve somebody like that.
- 47:07Speaker 4: You deserve As much as you pour in the willingness,
- 47:14Speaker 4: it's one thing to have all this gifting and anointing,
- 47:19Speaker 4: but it's another thing to willingly pour it out.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:24Speaker 2: And you do that.
- 47:25Speaker 4: And so I was curious, like, because I didn't know
- 47:28Speaker 4: until later on, like when we started building a relationship
- 47:30Speaker 4: that you and Bishop Cunningham was in relationship. But then
- 47:34Speaker 4: when I started seeing the relationship, I was like, oh,
- 47:36Speaker 4: this makes sense. This makes so much sense to see
- 47:40Speaker 4: both of y'all in the room. And I aspire to
- 47:43Speaker 4: do that one day. I know it's coming soon that
- 47:45Speaker 4: I'll be able to minister on the same stages as
- 47:48Speaker 4: Coach D. You know what I'm saying? She's already prophesied that.
- 47:51Speaker 4: And when I didn't even know my voice was even mattered.
- 47:54Speaker 4: This was before the podcast. This was before all this.
- 47:57Speaker 4: And just like you, we had a cloak moment. I
- 47:59Speaker 4: didn't even understand the cloak. Where the Lord released me
- 48:02Speaker 4: to give her a word. And I felt like it
- 48:05Speaker 4: was a simple word, but I felt the fire of God.
- 48:08Speaker 4: And she said, I saw myself cloaking someone this morning,
- 48:11Speaker 4: and it's you. And I didn't know what any of
- 48:13Speaker 4: that meant. I didn't know what any of that meant,
- 48:17Speaker 4: and it did not make sense. And I think this
- 48:19Speaker 4: portion is not just only about the... The concept of
- 48:23Speaker 4: someone helping you build your house, but the idea of community,
- 48:27Speaker 4: because a lot of us have run away from community
- 48:29Speaker 4: based upon the structure of a community that we might
- 48:33Speaker 4: not have agreed with, that has probably altered our idea
- 48:37Speaker 4: of God and our relationship or our positioning, our assignments. Like,
- 48:42Speaker 4: I think it's so important to go beyond the church. And, like,
- 48:45Speaker 4: I'm so glad that you mentioned that Bishop Cunningham is
- 48:49Speaker 4: not just about the spiritual, but understanding how the spiritual
- 48:53Speaker 4: connects to the entrepreneur.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 48:56Speaker 2: We need people.
- 48:58Speaker 4: We desperately need people to get in their position because
- 49:02Speaker 4: if Bishop Coney wasn't in her position, if Coach D
- 49:06Speaker 4: wasn't in her position, if they didn't do their assignments,
- 49:08Speaker 4: they could never help us with ours. That goes back
- 49:11Speaker 4: to the idea, and I'm stealing this idea.
- 49:13Speaker 2: I ain't going to lie.
- 49:14Speaker 4: The idea of the carpenter telling the fishermen that he
- 49:19Speaker 4: was going to teach them to be fisher of men.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Never caught that concept.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Never.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Your brain, Joy, is beautiful. Okay?
- 49:31Speaker 4: I love talking to you because I don't want to
- 49:34Speaker 4: be a tax lady. That's what they know Coach D
- 49:36Speaker 4: for around these parts. I don't want to be the
- 49:38Speaker 4: tax lady. I don't even like numbers like that to
- 49:40Speaker 4: be no tax lady. And she's not trying to be
- 49:43Speaker 4: a podcaster. But what she had in her led me
- 49:47Speaker 4: to my person in podcasting. And so I think that
- 49:53Speaker 4: I think I'm just so amazed with how how it
- 49:56Speaker 4: wraps all together about the position of not just you
- 50:01Speaker 4: not having the blueprint, but who helps you manage your,
- 50:04Speaker 4: manages your blueprint.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Yeah. And one of the other areas, and I just
- 50:09Speaker 1: want to like to round it out around his half
- 50:11Speaker 1: bill ideas that like, as I was writing, he also
- 50:16Speaker 1: had to take me back to like, we think half
- 50:18Speaker 1: bill means, um, not finished in the visible way of finish. Right.
- 50:24Speaker 1: So I'll use a book for an example. He was
- 50:28Speaker 1: talking to me and was like, so you wrote the
- 50:29Speaker 1: book and it's published. What was the purpose of writing
- 50:35Speaker 1: the book? So somebody could read it. We're good writing
- 50:39Speaker 1: a book and putting it on Amazon. Ain't nobody read it.
- 50:42Speaker 1: It's still a half built house. It feels like a completion,
- 50:46Speaker 1: but if it has not walked itself to the purpose
- 50:48Speaker 1: of being in the hands of people that need to
- 50:51Speaker 1: read it. So what that did is that how that
- 50:53Speaker 1: impacted me in marketplace and shifted is that Some of
- 50:56Speaker 1: us have a problem or issue with selling, marketing, pushing
- 51:01Speaker 1: things forward, saying, I wrote a book, saying I, and
- 51:04Speaker 1: we feel it as it is self-promoting. We've talked to these,
- 51:08Speaker 1: you know, he just going to sprinkle your name in rooms.
- 51:10Speaker 1: He just going to flip. Like we've made this, this
- 51:12Speaker 1: very passive. Yes, he can and does, but we've also
- 51:16Speaker 1: made it very passive, right? This passive space. When I
- 51:20Speaker 1: look at the story of Joseph, the, Cupbearer is able
- 51:24Speaker 1: to mention his name in a room that he's not
- 51:26Speaker 1: in because he experienced his gift in the low place. Right.
- 51:30Speaker 1: So this cupbearer doesn't know Joseph's name, but for Joseph
- 51:35Speaker 1: being willing to interpret dreams in the prison, being willing
- 51:39Speaker 1: to operate and work his gift in a season that
- 51:42Speaker 1: does not look right. So how does the cupbearer have
- 51:45Speaker 1: his name in his mouth? And so we start processing
- 51:48Speaker 1: how many of us have done a thing. If I
- 51:50Speaker 1: do the podcast, but I don't ever care that nobody's
- 51:53Speaker 1: watching it. If I write the book, but I'm never pressed.
- 51:57Speaker 1: If I build a program, but I'm okay sitting in
- 52:00Speaker 1: a room with two people because I'm scared to mark
- 52:02Speaker 1: it out loud and fill a room with a thousand
- 52:04Speaker 1: people for the glory of God. If I'm going to
- 52:06Speaker 1: do it, that's another version of have built houses because
- 52:09Speaker 1: some of us, God had to get me. You have
- 52:11Speaker 1: gotten content with doing events with 25 people in them.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Because that's safe for me. Because I ain't got to
- 52:18Speaker 1: do hard. 25 people, I can do that on a
- 52:20Speaker 1: Facebook post. So when he's stretching me next year and
- 52:24Speaker 1: was like 100 people and I'm like, that means that
- 52:30Speaker 1: I got to say some things out loud. That means
- 52:33Speaker 1: that I can't do everything on the secret Zoom screen
- 52:35Speaker 1: that don't nobody know about. That means that there's some
- 52:37Speaker 1: things that I have to do differently. But he was
- 52:39Speaker 1: showing me it's easy to judge the Hatfield House by
- 52:42Speaker 1: the program you never finished or the thing you didn't launch.
- 52:45Speaker 1: But what about the launch that you was comfortable that
- 52:47Speaker 1: nobody came to? What are you like? I launched it.
- 52:50Speaker 1: What about the thing that he's telling you? He has
- 52:52Speaker 1: thousands of people in it, but you don't want to
- 52:54Speaker 1: talk about it. So you've been content that as long
- 52:56Speaker 1: as 10 people showed up and we will take scripture
- 52:59Speaker 1: and make ourselves content with two or three gather, he'd
- 53:02Speaker 1: be in the midst. But did he call you to
- 53:04Speaker 1: two or three?
- 53:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 53:07Speaker 1: And so those are the things that he was talking
- 53:08Speaker 1: to me. This half bill is, did it go all
- 53:11Speaker 1: the way to purpose? Did it not? How did you,
- 53:14Speaker 1: how did you finish a thing? Not that you record
- 53:17Speaker 1: an episode, but did it meet the people that were
- 53:20Speaker 1: supposed to hear it? And what was your responsibility to
- 53:23Speaker 1: get it to them?
- 53:24Speaker 2: Right?
- 53:25Speaker 1: That scripture that says that my sheep know my voice,
- 53:27Speaker 1: a stranger they won't follow. It requires that the shepherd
- 53:29Speaker 1: is speaking. She can't hear a voice that is not
- 53:33Speaker 1: being projected and put forth. So we can spiritualize being
- 53:37Speaker 1: behind the scenes, being tucked away. We can make it
- 53:41Speaker 1: all God's job to, To move us forward. But there's
- 53:45Speaker 1: a responsibility if he's giving you an assignment that we
- 53:49Speaker 1: got to preach and build, right? We got to talk
- 53:50Speaker 1: about the thing and move it forward. We have to
- 53:52Speaker 1: be able to make sure that what God gives us prospers.
- 53:56Speaker 1: And yes, he prospers our way, but there's some work
- 53:59Speaker 1: that we have to do to move these things forward.
- 54:01Speaker 1: So have built ain't just the thing you never did.
- 54:03Speaker 1: It's the thing you did that's collecting dust because you
- 54:08Speaker 1: didn't do the rest of the work to make sure
- 54:10Speaker 1: that it made it to the purpose of the goal
- 54:12Speaker 1: of the thing. He don't just want us writing books
- 54:13Speaker 1: so we can call ourselves authors. He's giving us, he's
- 54:16Speaker 1: not just, he don't just want us doing podcasts so
- 54:19Speaker 1: we can get comfortable hearing our own voices, right? There's
- 54:22Speaker 1: a purpose to it. So are we taking it to
- 54:24Speaker 1: the purpose? Are we moving it as far as it
- 54:27Speaker 1: needs to go?
- 54:30Speaker 2: Is somebody convicted over there? Or is it just me?
- 54:33Speaker 2: I mean, are you convicted? I think my toes, my
- 54:37Speaker 2: toes is gone because she's unstepped all.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Because she answered my next question. So, Desiree, just come
- 54:44Speaker 4: to the platform so the people can hear your thoughts.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Because a lot has happened in this hour. I don't
- 54:51Speaker 2: even know where to start. I mean, she came out
- 54:55Speaker 2: the gate like... Yeah, like Jackie Chan. And then ended
- 54:59Speaker 2: with a.
- 55:01Speaker 4: That's how she ended it. But no, this conversation was good.
- 55:05Speaker 4: It was convicting in a great way because... I don't
- 55:10Speaker 4: think you can hear this conversation and not take an
- 55:13Speaker 4: inward look of responsibility of the thing that God has
- 55:16Speaker 4: called you to do, whether you think it's big or small,
- 55:20Speaker 4: and evaluate how you've been stewarding it, right? So I
- 55:24Speaker 4: think initially when she talked about building on borrowed blueprints,
- 55:30Speaker 4: it made me think about unboxed worship, right? So, you know,
- 55:36Speaker 4: some years ago, the Lord gave me unboxed worship. And
- 55:38Speaker 4: because I was fairly, I call my, I was fairly
- 55:41Speaker 4: new in this particular spiritual walk, right? Like give my
- 55:44Speaker 4: life back to Christ and just like, I felt like
- 55:47Speaker 4: the spirit was like, boom, here we go. So because
- 55:49Speaker 4: I was new, newer to the journey, I only knew
- 55:53Speaker 4: what I saw, like where I was around.
- 55:55Speaker 2: So I was like, oh, okay, it's a thing. Maybe
- 55:57Speaker 2: it's supposed to look like this. So we gonna pray.
- 55:59Speaker 4: Cause the people around me, they pray and they pray
- 56:01Speaker 4: like this, but I don't pray like that. So I'm
- 56:02Speaker 4: gonna let them pray. I'm gonna let them do the
- 56:06Speaker 4: thing and.
- 56:07Speaker 2: X, Y, and Z.
- 56:08Speaker 4: So because I felt like that I didn't fit in
- 56:11Speaker 4: that space, I stopped.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 56:14Speaker 4: And so in stopping, like literally the Lord has brought
- 56:17Speaker 4: literally this year has brought it back, has brought the
- 56:22Speaker 4: has set it on my on my shoulders and brought
- 56:24Speaker 4: it back to me.
- 56:25Speaker 2: But because I've journeyed.
- 56:27Speaker 4: You know, because I've allowed the Holy Spirit to unbox
- 56:30Speaker 4: me and just settle into who I am.
- 56:33Speaker 2: I am different. Me and Jessica, you can clearly tell
- 56:36Speaker 2: that's my sister. I love her. But we're just different.
- 56:38Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? And I had to be
- 56:40Speaker 4: okay with my difference. And also the word that the
- 56:44Speaker 4: Lord had shown me as we talk about, like, stewarding
- 56:47Speaker 4: and things like that. I ain't want that either because
- 56:48Speaker 4: I ain't going to be sitting with them people.
- 56:53Speaker 2: But it just looked different, right?
- 56:55Speaker 4: So... I'm saying all that to say that the thing
- 56:59Speaker 4: that God has given us, and I am guilty about
- 57:01Speaker 4: writing a book and then putting it on the shelf
- 57:03Speaker 4: because I wrote it last year.
- 57:04Speaker 2: And it's sitting. I was hoping you heard her.
- 57:06Speaker 4: It's sitting there. Matter of fact, I got a box full.
- 57:10Speaker 4: There's probably still.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Do you see her face? I see her face.
- 57:14Speaker 5: I see you.
- 57:15Speaker 2: She cute. All in my house.
- 57:17Speaker 4: You know, I took the rest of my toes. But
- 57:20Speaker 4: so I'm just saying this to say that. We just
- 57:23Speaker 4: have to be better stewards of the thing that God
- 57:26Speaker 4: has called us to. You know what I'm saying? And
- 57:29Speaker 4: being okay with doing it how he's called us to
- 57:32Speaker 4: do it, regardless of how different or not popular that
- 57:38Speaker 4: it looks. Because if we're going to be fishers of men,
- 57:41Speaker 4: that means he's called us to a particular sector of
- 57:44Speaker 4: people that if we're not showing up authentically ourselves, if
- 57:47Speaker 4: we're not showing up and doing it how he's called
- 57:48Speaker 4: us to do it, we're going to miss them and
- 57:50Speaker 4: they're going to miss us.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 57:51Speaker 2: So that's a miss. Again, it's another half built house
- 57:53Speaker 2: because it's a missed assignment. So look at her. So
- 58:00Speaker 2: thank you. For some reason, I want to call you Dr.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Joy. Thank you, Joy, for coming in and, sorry. And just,
- 58:07Speaker 4: you know, snatching our wigs and stuff off today.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Again.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Again.
- 58:11Speaker 2: Again.
- 58:12Speaker 4: So at this point, y'all should know, anytime y'all see
- 58:15Speaker 4: the name Joy Pittman and this curly fro and beat
- 58:20Speaker 4: face with the bold lip, just know the cute face
- 58:24Speaker 4: come with a swing.
- 58:25Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 58:27Speaker 4: The cute thing, and let me tell you, not just
- 58:29Speaker 4: in the spirit, don't try her in the physical because
- 58:33Speaker 4: she from New York. That pants, don't try to sneak
- 58:38Speaker 4: my girl because.
- 58:39Speaker 2: She might have the pants.
- 58:43Speaker 4: For you. Joy, I'm in search for words. And as
- 58:51Speaker 4: I search for my words, we know the tradition of
- 58:55Speaker 4: just ask. If they didn't hear anything but this one thing,
- 59:01Speaker 4: what do you want to leave the people with? If
- 59:03Speaker 4: it's about half-built houses, if it's about relationship, community, if
- 59:07Speaker 4: it's about how Jessica didn't see herself as a speaker
- 59:11Speaker 4: when you came for my neck, I would like to
- 59:14Speaker 4: leave you a floor. And I don't know if the
- 59:16Speaker 4: woman of God is going to give us a prophetic word.
- 59:18Speaker 4: It's probably going to be very prophetic because the Lord
- 59:20Speaker 4: knows she uses.
- 59:22Speaker 2: But the floor is yours, sis. I'm so grateful for you.
- 59:27Speaker 1: I'm grateful for y'all, too. One thing I do want
- 59:30Speaker 1: to say to anybody that will watch this is if
- 59:34Speaker 1: you leave with nothing else, make up in your mind
- 59:37Speaker 1: that you won't leave this earth as a dreamer. Don't
- 59:40Speaker 1: die a dreamer. Don't die full of witty ideas and
- 59:45Speaker 1: inventions and anointings and calls that you have not allowed
- 59:50Speaker 1: God to birth through you. Be willing to understand that
- 59:54Speaker 1: in this particular hour, The Bible tells us that he
- 59:57Speaker 1: will do a new thing, right? He does a new thing.
- 59:59Speaker 1: And so allow yourself to be a part of a
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: new thing. Go back to your word and begin to
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: excavate for yourself. What did these giftings and callings and
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: things look like? Because oftentimes we have only learned to
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: understand who God is calling us to be through the
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: lens of who he called somebody else to be. So
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: what is it that you're asking of me? Be courageous
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: in this hour, right? Um, Be willing to move forward.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of elaborateness at this moment,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: but just don't die a dreamer. I will share this
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: personal story. Right now, and I've shared it before, and
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: it's the thing that keeps me reminded. If I go
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: in my garage, if I go in my guest room
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: that I'm still figuring out, I have a box, about
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: two or three plastic bins full of notebooks, composition notebooks,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: notepads or whatever. And in them, you will find my
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: mother's handwriting, books, teaching and all kinds of things that
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: she wrote, but she never put out fully into the earth.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: And she passed in 2021. And one of the things
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: that's always been in my heart is that I don't
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: ever want anybody else connected to me to leave this
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: earth with things that will sit in bins that God
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: intended to be on bookshelves, to have words locked up
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: inside of them. or to have things that they left
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: this earth holding that God meant to be on main
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: stages and meant to be recorded and meant to be
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: passed down and meant to be a part of their legacy.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: And so we have to lock in in this moment
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: and decide we're not going to leave this earth as dreamers.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: There is a shift. God, I thank you today. There's
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: absolutely a shift back to a kingdom focus. And I
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: know people are using it as a buzzword. I know
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: people where now we're doing kingdom everything, kingdom conferences or whatever.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: But I would admonish you all, go back and look
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: at Jesus's ministry. Go back and look at the parables
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: that he shared, the parable of the leaven, the parable
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: of the mustard seed. When he began to talk about
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: the kingdom is like, the kingdom is like wheat and tare.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: He said there was a master that sold wheat and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: then somebody came at night, his enemy came at night
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and sold tare and he let the wheat and the
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: tare grow together. That all of these parables talk about
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: how we must exist in the world amongst the world,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: and to impact the world for the glory of God.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: We look at the model of Joseph. Joseph is taken
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: out and put into Egypt. Daniel is taken out and
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: put into Babylon. We see these models of God's people
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: being placed into the systems of the world to bring
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: forth and to bring clarity, placed into the systems of
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: the world to bring impact as we can no longer
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: exist between the construct of, I'm just going to be,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: I'm going to grab myself and run back into the
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: safe haven. I'm going to I'm going to go out
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: and earn my money and we're making a safe haven. No,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: you are designed to impact the world for the glory
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: of God, to impact him. I've been looking at, and
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I'm closing here, the parable of the leaven. And when
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: you look at what leaven did, leaven was a small
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: piece that was put in and embedded in the flour,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: embedded in what it was. And what it did was
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: that it changed the consistency of the whole loaf. You
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: didn't necessarily see the leaven, but it changed. It changed internally.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: It impacted the whole thing. We are literally called. So
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: for those of you that will watch this, that don't
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: feel like you were called to be locked behind four walls,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: that the normal construct of the way things have felt
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: feels like that's not what God is calling you to
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: or pushing you towards. For those of you that have
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: felt like, I just, I know I belong to God,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: but I don't know what it looks like to be
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: connected here. I want you to understand and to lean
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: into the idea that he has called us to be
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: weed amongst hairs, right? He's called us to occupy until
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: he comes. He's called us to be made in his
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: image and likeness and to show up in the places
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: of the world where people need to see him. And
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: so it's okay that you don't look like everybody else.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: It's okay that you don't fit. Find your alignment in
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: God and allow him to align you into the places
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: that he's called you to be. Make up your mind
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: that you will not die a dreamer, that you will
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: not be content living in half-built houses. That's all I got.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Love y'all.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: That's all you got. Listen, we take that. We take that. Oh,
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: my goodness.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: Y'all, this book and the link, Desiree, we'll put in
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: the description.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: Because we need this. And this will be a book
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: that we do in the safe space. I want to
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: invite you guys to the safe space where we meet
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: every week on Mondays for about 90 minutes. And we
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: talk about different titles like this, like different discussions like this.
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: How can we not leave this earth a dreamer, right?
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: And not completely build our houses, making sure that we are.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: In the blueprint. And you might see my good sis Joy.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: She has agreed upon the things, but I'm so proud
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: of her and where she is. And I'm so encouraged
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: by her and how she continues to keep going. So
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: I am definitely promoting this book intentionally because I need
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: it for me and I know you need it for you.
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: So let's build these houses on the right blueprint that
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: the Lord has given us. But y'all, this has been one.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: I'm going to be digesting probably for the rest of these,
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: this year. I'm definitely, I feel I have holy conviction.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: Okay. After this conversation.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: So y'all, y'all tell me what y'all think in the chat. Uh,
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: we want to hear from you guys. And if you
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: want to get connected with joy, make sure you go
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: into the description and just follow her. She has a lot,
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: a lot of things coming on and she's a podcaster.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: The joy you need.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: Uh, shameless plug of the joy you need. Um, y'all,
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: I love you guys until next week, until next time. Remember,
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: Life could be much more simple if you just ask.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Thank you for tuning in to this week's episode. Since
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: you've made it this far, you might as well connect
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: with us on all social media.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Platforms at the Jessica S.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Smith.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: I know I won't see you back until next week,
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: but until then, remember to love always yourself.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: And always thank.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: God for another day.
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: I know we could be another way.
