- 2:35Speaker 3: station one O seven three The Beat. It's g Money,
- 2:38Speaker 3: Good morning sir, how are you hey?
- 2:39Speaker 4: Good morning, Dave, thank you for being here.
- 2:42Speaker 3: It is time for Trick or Beat. It's tomorrow night
- 2:44Speaker 3: at Go Mark Ballpark. How many years we've been doing this?
- 2:47Speaker 6: This is our nineteenth annual. Nineteenth annual, yes, nineteen years,
- 2:52Speaker 6: going strong, and each and every year it gets bigger
- 2:54Speaker 6: and better.
- 2:54Speaker 3: You're right about that. Now it's tomorrow night. Gomartin Ballpark.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Big shout out for the folks that's slangled off against
- 3:01Speaker 3: sponsoring the event. There are two sessions, yes, six and
- 3:04Speaker 3: seven thirty. But gee, that first session pretty much sold
- 3:07Speaker 3: out at this point.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Correct, there's no, well, not sold out.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I don't really don't know what to
- 3:12Speaker 3: call it. I mean, it's the I mean it's so
- 3:15Speaker 3: because we don't charge for tickets. The tickets are gone, yes, yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 3: for the first session exact. And and the only reason
- 3:22Speaker 3: is I always have people that ask me every year,
- 3:24Speaker 3: you know why if it's a free event, why do
- 3:26Speaker 3: you need tickets? So why don't you explain that You've
- 3:28Speaker 3: been on this since day one? So explain it.
- 3:30Speaker 6: Well, we have the tickets so we can control how
- 3:33Speaker 6: many kids come in.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 6: And plus we of course we give we feed them,
- 3:38Speaker 6: we give them free pieces. So we need to know exactly,
- 3:42Speaker 6: you know, how much pieces we need to have, and
- 3:44Speaker 6: we give our I don't want to call them our vendors,
- 3:47Speaker 6: our sponsors. We tell them so they know exactly how
- 3:50Speaker 6: much candy they need to buy. Because the concept is
- 3:53Speaker 6: we want to provide a safe place for you to
- 3:56Speaker 6: bring your child to trick or treaty, and so what
- 3:58Speaker 6: they do is they come to the ballpark and they
- 4:00Speaker 6: walk around the concourse and each one of our sponsors
- 4:04Speaker 6: are set up around the concourse in a ballpark and
- 4:06Speaker 6: they just get candy from each one of our sponsors.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And last year we did like thirty five hundred kids
- 4:12Speaker 3: or something like that. Last year it was incredible, Yes, incredible.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Now we do want to remind you again the tickets
- 4:19Speaker 3: are gone for session one. There are tickets available.
- 4:22Speaker 4: And it's very limited.
- 4:24Speaker 6: I just check and we have about about one hundred
- 4:27Speaker 6: somewhere between one hundred and one hundred and fifty for
- 4:29Speaker 6: the second session or.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Second session, which starts at seven point thirty. Yes, and
- 4:34Speaker 3: I would plan on if I were you getting those
- 4:37Speaker 3: tickets probably sometime over the next couple of hours. I
- 4:39Speaker 3: wouldn't wait till tomorrow.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Well, I can guarantee you they it won't be any tomorrow.
- 4:45Speaker 6: I can guarantee you that I was on the area yesterday.
- 4:48Speaker 6: People was calling me trying to come in yesterday to
- 4:50Speaker 6: pick up tickets on a Sunday. Yeah, so no, you
- 4:54Speaker 6: got to pick them up today. And like I say,
- 4:56Speaker 6: if you wait, you're not going to be able to
- 4:58Speaker 6: get parents Todork.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and parents don't don't need tickets. It's just for
- 5:02Speaker 3: the it's just for the kids exactly. So if you're
- 5:04Speaker 3: a let's say you're a mom and you got three kids,
- 5:07Speaker 3: then you just need three ticks. You don't need four
- 5:09Speaker 3: because you automatically get in. And I would say, and
- 5:14Speaker 3: I had something going on, I didn't get to do
- 5:15Speaker 3: it last year, but I will be there this year.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I'll be there tomorrow night. I would I would say
- 5:20Speaker 3: to you this be patient, because please, because there's a
- 5:26Speaker 3: little bit of a line. They don't let everybody in,
- 5:28Speaker 3: you know, at one time. There's an orderly fashion that.
- 5:31Speaker 6: You got to go to exactly, and once you get in,
- 5:33Speaker 6: it goes pretty quick. It's just you know, like you say,
- 5:36Speaker 6: the line and getting in, once you get through the gates,
- 5:40Speaker 6: it goes pretty quick, sure, you know. And parents, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 6: if you want to, you know, just lollygag and walk,
- 5:49Speaker 6: you know, then hey, it's going to take that much time.
- 5:50Speaker 6: But if you go to each station, each one of
- 5:53Speaker 6: our sponsors, our community partners as we like to call them,
- 5:57Speaker 6: and get your candy and keep it moving, that that
- 5:59Speaker 6: will help the FLO.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Give me an idea of approximately how many of our
- 6:04Speaker 3: sponsors will be set up there and given out candy
- 6:06Speaker 3: just approximately ballpark.
- 6:08Speaker 6: Well, I tell you our community partners, and again we
- 6:12Speaker 6: got to say thank you to Selango Law, the Charleston
- 6:14Speaker 6: Dirty Birds, West Virginia Health Right, Charleston Blueprint, Pizza Hut.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Of course they're providing the pizza for the kids.
- 6:21Speaker 6: C AMC Women and Children's Hospital, Appalachian Power Company, the
- 6:25Speaker 6: City of Charleston. I love the mayor she of course,
- 6:28Speaker 6: she comes every year. She dresses up so you know,
- 6:31Speaker 6: and she she gets she really gets involved. She do
- 6:35Speaker 6: she takes pictures with all of she at least all
- 6:37Speaker 6: of the kids. She tries to get pictures with all
- 6:40Speaker 6: of the kids. So I would say, Dave, probably at
- 6:42Speaker 6: least about about twenty five to thirty of our community.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Many sponsors, I mean the people that you mentioned. You know,
- 6:50Speaker 3: sometimes schedules get in the way, but I mean pretty
- 6:52Speaker 3: much all those people are going to be there. Charleston
- 6:54Speaker 3: Police Department, I think you mentioned them too. They're also
- 6:55Speaker 3: a big part of this, always a big part of it.
- 6:58Speaker 6: And they have their tables set up out, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 6: out there giving out candy and information you know, to
- 7:04Speaker 6: the kids to be I think they call them junior
- 7:06Speaker 6: patrol men or something like that. So, I mean, this
- 7:10Speaker 6: is really a great community event and we bring everyone
- 7:13Speaker 6: together and like I say, provide a safe place for
- 7:15Speaker 6: your child to come at Trick or Treat.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Again, we're talking to g Money from her sister station
- 7:19Speaker 3: the beach Tricker Beat is happening tomorrow night at Go
- 7:21Speaker 3: Martin Ballpark. But Dave Island showing five vidy likee brought
- 7:24Speaker 3: to you in part by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air
- 7:26Speaker 3: quality can cause a variety of health issues. Allergies, respiratory
- 7:29Speaker 3: problems are more. Pinnacle offers specialized indoor air quality services
- 7:32Speaker 3: for residential, commercial, and industrial type settings. Vis A Pinnacle Corp.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Dot net. Because what you don't know can't hurt you.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Give me go back in your mind, gee and think
- 7:41Speaker 3: about a couple of really good stories that you've had
- 7:43Speaker 3: from Trick or Beat. I mean, you know, just just
- 7:46Speaker 3: a couple.
- 7:46Speaker 6: Well, Dave, I tell you, I tell you, the main
- 7:48Speaker 6: story that just pops out is how we all get
- 7:50Speaker 6: how we started this. Okay, a former leasially everyone knows
- 7:56Speaker 6: Leicially she had just had her a child, and she's
- 7:59Speaker 6: like she had to be on the air because she
- 8:03Speaker 6: was our night DJ and she had to be on
- 8:07Speaker 6: the air. So she went to the GM She's like,
- 8:09Speaker 6: I want to take my child trigger treating, but I
- 8:11Speaker 6: have to be on the air. Can we, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 6: come up with some something that we can do. So
- 8:17Speaker 6: Lisha and Woody sit down and came up with Tricker Beat.
- 8:21Speaker 6: And the very first year, actually the first two years, me,
- 8:26Speaker 6: Woody and Lisha, we were doing all I mean literally
- 8:29Speaker 6: we did all of the footwork, running around to every
- 8:32Speaker 6: piece of place in the city asking him to donate
- 8:35Speaker 6: pizza so and going around getting businesses to donate candy,
- 8:42Speaker 6: and and it just grew from that. And that right
- 8:45Speaker 6: there is the main that just sticks out in my
- 8:47Speaker 6: mind from you know, any story that we can tell
- 8:50Speaker 6: from Trigcker Beat, That right there is the number one thing,
- 8:53Speaker 6: you know. And like I said, it grew and we
- 8:55Speaker 6: provide a safe place for you to bring.
- 8:58Speaker 3: It was the first was the first one of the but's.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Been at the ballpark for nineteen years.
- 9:03Speaker 3: And so those folks, you know, no matter who the
- 9:04Speaker 3: owners were, they've always stepped up to the plate for
- 9:06Speaker 3: us here.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Yes, always stepped up to the plate and provided a
- 9:09Speaker 6: safe place for us to provide the children to come
- 9:12Speaker 6: in church.
- 9:12Speaker 3: And there is one hundred percent safe and again you
- 9:15Speaker 3: know well lit and uh and plus you know they've
- 9:18Speaker 3: been over there working on the selangol all light the night.
- 9:21Speaker 3: You get a little bit a little preview of what
- 9:23Speaker 3: it looked like.
- 9:24Speaker 6: Yes, and I know last year they actually did turn
- 9:27Speaker 6: off all of the lights so and lit the lights
- 9:30Speaker 6: up so people can get a little sneak peek.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Of what was to come.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be a great night. But again,
- 9:36Speaker 3: one thing we wanted to tell you is if you're
- 9:38Speaker 3: gonna bring your kids, your grandkids, whatever, you need to
- 9:41Speaker 3: get those tickets today. They're available at our studios eleven
- 9:44Speaker 3: eleven Virginia Street. D's here in Charleston. You know, normally
- 9:47Speaker 3: we say between the hours of eight and five. However,
- 9:50Speaker 3: I don't know what they're going to be left after
- 9:52Speaker 3: five o'clock today, So why don't you just go ahead
- 9:54Speaker 3: and plan on coming in maybe just as soon as
- 9:56Speaker 3: you can get here. We've already had people I was
- 9:58Speaker 3: talking to Tracy outfront. We've already had We've had you
- 10:01Speaker 3: said you had people calling you while you were on
- 10:02Speaker 3: the air on the beat yesterday. We had people showing up,
- 10:05Speaker 3: like you know, at seven thirty this morning. Poor Tracy
- 10:07Speaker 3: wasn't even here yet. We had to tell him to
- 10:09Speaker 3: come back.
- 10:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and keep in mind again, we only have about
- 10:13Speaker 6: one hundred and fifty left. And you can't come in
- 10:16Speaker 6: here and say, oh, I need fifteen tickets. Yeah, you know,
- 10:19Speaker 6: get whatever you need, but the max is six per family.
- 10:23Speaker 6: So if you only need three, you got three kids,
- 10:26Speaker 6: just get the three tickets.
- 10:28Speaker 7: Yeah, right.
- 10:29Speaker 3: The two sessions again, the first session is gone that
- 10:32Speaker 3: sorts at six and the second session is at seven
- 10:34Speaker 3: point thirty. Been kind of keeping an eye on the
- 10:37Speaker 3: weather a little bit because there's a chance of some
- 10:39Speaker 3: rain and they've kind of gone back and forth, but
- 10:41Speaker 3: there might be a little light rain.
- 10:42Speaker 4: But like you and I were.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Talking off the air man, it's Halloween. You're supposed to
- 10:46Speaker 3: be a little bit dark and spooky, right.
- 10:47Speaker 4: A little sprinkle is not going to hurt you.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It's not.
- 10:49Speaker 3: There's no severe weather or anything like that. And the
- 10:52Speaker 3: kid you'll put your kids in the costumes, bring them out.
- 10:54Speaker 3: As you said, most of the people that are our
- 10:57Speaker 3: community partners are going to be in costume. It's always
- 11:00Speaker 3: a big deal to see what the Mayor's gonna wears
- 11:03Speaker 3: always always and what he would will be there running
- 11:07Speaker 3: around to what he couldn't be with us this morning
- 11:08Speaker 3: he had a doctor's pointment. He's out there. He'll be
- 11:10Speaker 3: out there with us as well. And again, it's not
- 11:13Speaker 3: just about the candy though, we got all kinds of
- 11:14Speaker 3: other things going on there. Information. It's just a good
- 11:17Speaker 3: time in a safe environment for the kids exactly.
- 11:20Speaker 6: And like you say, you know we've been telling you
- 11:22Speaker 6: for the last two three weeks, get your child's costumes
- 11:24Speaker 6: ready because this is each and every year is going
- 11:27Speaker 6: to be big and you never know what we may
- 11:31Speaker 6: do tomorrow night.
- 11:31Speaker 3: It's one of the biggest events that we put on
- 11:34Speaker 3: every year for sure. Yeah, absolutely, g money of one
- 11:38Speaker 3: of seven three to the beat. I appreciate you being here.
- 11:39Speaker 3: We'll see you tomorrow out the ballpart man. Thanks a lot.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Get those tickets. Get those tickets all right, Get in
- 11:45Speaker 3: here now and get those tickets all right, because they're
- 11:47Speaker 3: going to the first sessions already gone. Second session are
- 11:50Speaker 3: going to be gone probably by the end of the day.
- 11:52Speaker 3: So if you haven't got those tickets yet, make sure
- 11:53Speaker 3: you do. G money from the Beat. The Dave Island

- 15:34Speaker 3: treating third Thursday night in Kanawha County.
- 15:36Speaker 11: Yes they are, They're mad it's not on Friday. But
- 15:39Speaker 11: I understand why it's.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Right right, It's it's I was talking to g Money
- 15:44Speaker 3: off the air and Mayor Goodwin told me one time,
- 15:46Speaker 3: and this is true of any town that no matter
- 15:48Speaker 3: what goes on in a town, whether it's potholes, whether
- 15:51Speaker 3: it's snow removal, whether it's crime, whatever, the things that
- 15:55Speaker 3: get people to most upset are trick or treat night
- 15:58Speaker 3: and Christmas parades. That's what gets I.
- 16:00Speaker 11: Mean, I've seen that happen. Yeah, and I'm excited about
- 16:04Speaker 11: tricker beat. That's always gonna be the more fun. I've
- 16:06Speaker 11: got to go to the next kitchen table Tours I've
- 16:09Speaker 11: I've been as a participant and as a candy giver
- 16:12Speaker 11: outer and it's a lot of fun. Tricker beats great.
- 16:15Speaker 11: So people should pick up tickets.
- 16:16Speaker 3: You get them. The first session's gone, so you need
- 16:18Speaker 3: if you it's the seven thirty session, and again they're
- 16:21Speaker 3: gonna be gone by the end of the day. All right,
- 16:23Speaker 3: let's talk about these kitchen table tours. You've been all
- 16:25Speaker 3: over the state. You've been at a lot of them.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I know last week there was one down in Mingo
- 16:30Speaker 3: County in Gilbert pretty well. Atten had Pushkin on the
- 16:33Speaker 3: show on Metro News Midday. He talked about that. What's
- 16:36Speaker 3: your takeaway from these kitchen table events.
- 16:38Speaker 11: They've been great. It's just been great to hear from folks.
- 16:40Speaker 11: We've had I believe eight so far. People want us
- 16:44Speaker 11: to come to more places in the state. It's just
- 16:46Speaker 11: been great to listen. We've heard a lot of the
- 16:48Speaker 11: same things, a couple different things. Most of the talks,
- 16:52Speaker 11: lots of people talk to us about what's going on
- 16:54Speaker 11: at the federal government with Medicaid shut with Medicaid changes
- 16:57Speaker 11: coming up. Lots of people are worried about losing their
- 16:59Speaker 11: home care. A lot of people talk about education, public education,
- 17:03Speaker 11: school consolidation, a little bit about data centers, kind of
- 17:06Speaker 11: all over the place.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Do you think that those delegate young in an elected office,
- 17:13Speaker 3: whether it's legislators, whether it's mayors, senators, whatever, should meet
- 17:18Speaker 3: with the public more.
- 17:19Speaker 7: Yes, absolutely, I mean.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Because there's you know, there's some pushbacks on certain certain one.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I canna mentioned any names, but there are certain ones
- 17:27Speaker 3: that people said, well, when was the last time he
- 17:29Speaker 3: or she met with the community. Like, I'll give you
- 17:31Speaker 3: folks credit. You guys are going into the communities and
- 17:34Speaker 3: you're meeting with these people. And from what Pushkin has
- 17:37Speaker 3: told me about some of these it's not just Democrats
- 17:39Speaker 3: that are showing up, not at all.
- 17:41Speaker 11: No, it's people all over. It's for everybody. It's not
- 17:43Speaker 11: just for democrats.
- 17:44Speaker 3: It's the kitchen table a bit.
- 17:45Speaker 11: Yeah, we just want to talk about issues and mostly listen,
- 17:48Speaker 11: I've learned about a lot of different issues that I
- 17:50Speaker 11: didn't know about. You know, we have to know a
- 17:53Speaker 11: lot about everything, so it's really hard to do. And
- 17:56Speaker 11: so I've learned a lot about issues that I didn't
- 17:58Speaker 11: know anything about.
- 17:59Speaker 3: How different have they been because I very well, here's
- 18:04Speaker 3: what I learned, you know, Amanda Bearr and my co
- 18:06Speaker 3: host on Metro News middate. She did the one in Huntington.
- 18:09Speaker 3: She was sort of serving as the as the moderator.
- 18:12Speaker 3: I guess the one Huntington, and she did the one
- 18:13Speaker 3: at Charleston, and you know, they're not that far apart,
- 18:16Speaker 3: but they were very different there.
- 18:18Speaker 11: Every single one has its own personality. They've all been
- 18:22Speaker 11: very different, and I imagine flat Woods will be different
- 18:24Speaker 11: this week. I imagine Beckley will be different next week.
- 18:29Speaker 11: They're all they've all got their own flavor, just like
- 18:31Speaker 11: our you know, every community does.
- 18:33Speaker 3: So when and where is the one in flat Woods.
- 18:36Speaker 11: Smart Night in flat Woods? I don't know where it is.
- 18:38Speaker 11: I need to figure it out. But you can follow
- 18:40Speaker 11: us on West Virginia House Democrats Facebook page. And it's
- 18:43Speaker 11: not just the House. Senator Garcia has been with us
- 18:46Speaker 11: as well, but yeah, you can follow us on Facebook
- 18:49Speaker 11: and the event information will be on there.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I want to talk about some national stuff for a moment,
- 18:54Speaker 3: Delegate and you, and we're talking with Delegate Kaylee Young.
- 18:56Speaker 3: If there isn't a resolution reached, Snap benefits going to
- 19:00Speaker 3: go away starting on November first, which is this Saturday.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And you obviously have concerns about that.
- 19:05Speaker 11: I have a lot of concerns about that. You know,
- 19:07Speaker 11: I've fought for children forever and ever. I food security
- 19:10Speaker 11: is something that's really important to me. Over two hundred
- 19:13Speaker 11: and seventy thousand West Virginians receive staff benefits. Of that
- 19:16Speaker 11: two hundred and seventy thousand, over one hundred thousand of
- 19:20Speaker 11: those are children. And so I'm very concerned about snap
- 19:23Speaker 11: benefits ending this weekend.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And they're scheduled, you know, as you said, to end
- 19:29Speaker 3: on November.
- 19:30Speaker 11: The first, Yes, they are. That's very soon. The holiday
- 19:33Speaker 11: seasons are approaching. I think I believe that today might
- 19:37Speaker 11: be the cutoff for if it doesn't happen today, they're
- 19:41Speaker 11: going to get pushback regardless. So I'm worried for people.
- 19:45Speaker 11: People need to eat well.
- 19:47Speaker 3: And speaking of which, I read something the other day
- 19:50Speaker 3: that maybe with the trigg or treat happening you know,
- 19:55Speaker 3: Thursday or Friday night, depending on where you live, it's
- 19:57Speaker 3: Friday night to where I live in Putnam County, that
- 20:00Speaker 3: people may want to consider handing out more practical things
- 20:03Speaker 3: for trick or treaty, maybe not so much snickers and
- 20:06Speaker 3: suckers and more more practical because I don't know how
- 20:08Speaker 3: the kids are going to feel, Like, yeah, I have.
- 20:11Speaker 11: Like mixed feelings about that, right mostly because like our children,
- 20:15Speaker 11: What are children going to think about that when they
- 20:17Speaker 11: just have like a whole bunch of rom noodles and
- 20:19Speaker 11: mac and cheese in their tree sooxes? And then how
- 20:22Speaker 11: do the parents explain that to the children. And it's
- 20:24Speaker 11: also like, depending on what neighborhood you're in, are those
- 20:27Speaker 11: the people that need it? I think there's better, more
- 20:29Speaker 11: tangible ways to help, way better ways to help. But
- 20:33Speaker 11: I mean, I don't think it's a bad idea by
- 20:35Speaker 11: any means. I also really want to point out the
- 20:37Speaker 11: governor expedited one point one million dollars that was allocated
- 20:41Speaker 11: in this this year's budget to our food banks. So
- 20:44Speaker 11: they were already going to get it, it's just he
- 20:46Speaker 11: expedited it to get it there faster. So I want
- 20:49Speaker 11: to commend him for doing that and also ask him
- 20:52Speaker 11: to do some more. Call the legislature and.
- 20:54Speaker 3: I was going to say, what would you like to
- 20:55Speaker 3: see him do?
- 20:56Speaker 11: So there's a lot of options he could do. He
- 20:58Speaker 11: could use this contingency fund. It's forty seven million dollars
- 21:01Speaker 11: that it costs to pay for snap in West Virginia
- 21:04Speaker 11: for one month, forty seven million dollars. He's probably got
- 21:07Speaker 11: that in his contingency fund. If not, call the legislature
- 21:10Speaker 11: in and let us appropriate some money to do it
- 21:13Speaker 11: or uh. One state has called in the National Guard
- 21:16Speaker 11: to help at food banks. There's options here, but we
- 21:19Speaker 11: cannot let West Virginians go hungry.
- 21:21Speaker 3: And again, this is a very very very real thing.
- 21:24Speaker 3: And here's what I talked about last week. When it
- 21:26Speaker 3: comes to the shutdown and things of that nature, most
- 21:28Speaker 3: people see Washington has just been so far removed from
- 21:32Speaker 3: their daily lives. I do they, well, normal people do.
- 21:35Speaker 3: I mean, because you hear about the budgets and you
- 21:38Speaker 3: hear about it and it's not really anything you can
- 21:40Speaker 3: wrap your head around, so to speak. But this is real.
- 21:45Speaker 3: I mean, this is this is this. And you mentioned
- 21:47Speaker 3: the Medicaid cuts as well, and that's something else that's
- 21:51Speaker 3: got a lot of people can start and talking about that.
- 21:52Speaker 3: But about the Medican get I.
- 21:53Speaker 11: Mean, the Medicaid cuts are they're coming. And you know
- 21:57Speaker 11: that's a big fight that's going on with this shutdown
- 21:59Speaker 11: right now. I don't I want to get into what
- 22:01Speaker 11: each side's fighting for. And fighting against I couldn't care
- 22:03Speaker 11: less about that. What I care about are people having
- 22:06Speaker 11: healthcare and people having food and being able to get
- 22:09Speaker 11: through the day, right. I mean, I know in our
- 22:11Speaker 11: legislature we've had a lot of people this year who
- 22:14Speaker 11: have said make America healthy again. That's a big movement
- 22:17Speaker 11: that's going on right now. I don't know how we
- 22:19Speaker 11: can claim that we're making people healthy while that we're
- 22:21Speaker 11: taking away the food from children and elderly people, people
- 22:25Speaker 11: that are working and their dependence. I just this is
- 22:28Speaker 11: a very real, very pressing issue, and if we don't
- 22:31Speaker 11: get some sort of solution by this weekend, we're going
- 22:34Speaker 11: to have a lot of hungry West Virginians and also
- 22:38Speaker 11: less important but still important nine billion dollars missing from
- 22:43Speaker 11: our economy that goes into grocery stores. That's very real too.
- 22:47Speaker 3: You know, we had a minister on the show on
- 22:50Speaker 3: Friday who operates a food bank actually in Putnam County,
- 22:53Speaker 3: and then later today on Metro News Midday, we're going
- 22:55Speaker 3: to talk to the folks a Mountaineer food bank as well.
- 22:57Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I think there's also a misconception about people that are
- 23:01Speaker 3: using these food banks and medicaid and so on and
- 23:04Speaker 3: so forth. I mean, the overwhelming majority of people that
- 23:07Speaker 3: are on Medicaid are working.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Hey, they are.
- 23:09Speaker 11: And please remember that those work requirements that were passed
- 23:11Speaker 11: in the Big Bill earlier this year, they also kick
- 23:14Speaker 11: in this Saturday, so it's getting stricter this weekend as well,
- 23:20Speaker 11: and it might not be there at all. So, yes,
- 23:22Speaker 11: most people that receive benefits are working, or they have
- 23:25Speaker 11: very young children, or they have a disability. Those are
- 23:29Speaker 11: the people we are in charge of taking care of.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Are you hopeful? I mean, obviously we want everybody wants
- 23:34Speaker 3: to shut down to come to it. Are you hopeful?
- 23:36Speaker 3: Do you see any like that it may come to
- 23:37Speaker 3: an ambiacary.
- 23:38Speaker 11: From the federal government. Absolutely not, which is why I'm
- 23:40Speaker 11: calling on the governor to step up for West Virginia
- 23:43Speaker 11: and do more for West Virginians. I'm very thankful for
- 23:46Speaker 11: what he did do, but we have to do more.
- 23:48Speaker 11: I heard him say, you know, West Virginians really need
- 23:51Speaker 11: to step up, and they really need to donate to
- 23:53Speaker 11: all of our food banks. And yes, we absolutely all
- 23:56Speaker 11: need to be doing everything we can to donate to
- 23:58Speaker 11: our food banks and food pantries. I'm glad they're coming
- 24:00Speaker 11: on they're wonderful, but they can't fill those gaps. They
- 24:03Speaker 11: can't one point one million dollars. That's four dollars for
- 24:06Speaker 11: every person on on snap right. That's that's not enough.
- 24:09Speaker 11: That's not going to feed people for even a single day.
- 24:12Speaker 11: That is not enough. And also, I don't know about you,
- 24:15Speaker 11: but every time I go to the grocery store, I
- 24:17Speaker 11: walk out and I'm like, whooh, that was a lot
- 24:19Speaker 11: more expensive than I thought it was going to be.
- 24:21Speaker 11: So whatever your income level is, everybody's pension pennies right now,
- 24:25Speaker 11: and we're getting into the holiday season where everything's more expensive.
- 24:29Speaker 11: So yes, we want West Virginia's to step up and
- 24:31Speaker 11: do more, but I understand not everybody can do that
- 24:33Speaker 11: right now. So we need the government to step in
- 24:36Speaker 11: cover the food benefits for these people for at least
- 24:39Speaker 11: the next month because we can't count on the federal
- 24:41Speaker 11: government to get it done.

- 25:27Speaker 11: stepping up. They're not just blue states. Red states are
- 25:30Speaker 11: stepping up. Louisiana just put one hundred and fifty million
- 25:32Speaker 11: dollars towards this. We need forty seven million dollars to
- 25:35Speaker 11: get it done. And the governor can do that on
- 25:36Speaker 11: his own, and if he can't do that, he can

- 30:28Speaker 3: You can buy steak for what you can buy a
- 30:30Speaker 3: blooney for right now. I don't think that they were
- 30:32Speaker 3: talking about Halloween. I don't think that's necessarily a good idea.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Text says that Dave, I see where local businessman's stepping
- 30:39Speaker 3: up to feed our children while the government shutdown is
- 30:41Speaker 3: going on. People need to shop these grocery stores and
- 30:44Speaker 3: support his local businesses agreed. Texas just wanted to know
- 30:47Speaker 3: if the governor legislator have any plans to use the
- 30:49Speaker 3: people's billion dollar Randy Day Fund to help people during
- 30:51Speaker 3: the government shutdown, people will lose their snap benefits. November
- 30:55Speaker 3: the first, Well, the governor has allocated some money, but
- 30:57Speaker 3: you just heard to deadly get Kaylee Young saying he
- 31:00Speaker 3: should alligate allocate more. Now, Daddy Jones, how ain't doing buddy.
- 31:04Speaker 7: I'm doing fine. How is this? How is this the
- 31:09Speaker 7: Republican's fault? I mean, the Republicans are voting to open
- 31:14Speaker 7: the government, right, and the Democrats are voting to shut
- 31:18Speaker 7: it down pretty much. Yeah, and if he opened it
- 31:23Speaker 7: back up, you get snapped. If he keeps clothes, you
- 31:28Speaker 7: don't get snapped. All right. I just wanted to get it.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Just make sure we got that straight. So let me
- 31:34Speaker 3: let me ask you about the book. We couple of
- 31:35Speaker 3: weeks away now.
- 31:36Speaker 7: From the book November seventeenth, Okay, yeah, it'll it'll be
- 31:41Speaker 7: out and then on the twenty second of November, I'll
- 31:46Speaker 7: have a book signing two o'clock in the afternoon on
- 31:50Speaker 7: Taylor Books. Uh huh. Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 3: And it just blows my mind, mister Jones, that you
- 31:56Speaker 3: are that you are fearful that people aren't going to
- 31:59Speaker 3: buy this book? Are you kidding me?
- 32:00Speaker 2: Me.
- 32:01Speaker 7: I was reading through it this morning. I was actually,
- 32:05Speaker 7: I don't do that very often. I was reading through it,
- 32:08Speaker 7: and I had criticism we spent too much time on
- 32:14Speaker 7: the needles. Towards the end of the book. Who criticized it, Well,
- 32:20Speaker 7: you know, Counselman Lane was the big backer of the needles.
- 32:25Speaker 7: But jb Akers went over there and investigated and proved
- 32:30Speaker 7: it was just a big fraud. There was no to
- 32:37Speaker 7: find out if somebody is going to if you're doing
- 32:42Speaker 7: anything preventive, you got to test them when they get there.
- 32:47Speaker 7: That was absent nothing.
- 32:49Speaker 3: I mean, that was one of the biggest things that
- 32:51Speaker 3: I remember about your administration was that argument over the
- 32:55Speaker 3: needle distribution in Charleston. So, I mean, I don't know
- 32:57Speaker 3: how you could well.
- 32:58Speaker 7: It almost ruined the city. And down at Health Right.
- 33:05Speaker 7: Your treated is a patient and Health Right has a
- 33:09Speaker 7: way of squeezing the money, you know, whether it's Medicaid
- 33:13Speaker 7: or whatever it is. And a third of their patients
- 33:18Speaker 7: that participate in their needle exchange go into recovery. Nobody there.
- 33:26Speaker 7: There wasn't a record of any one person going into
- 33:29Speaker 7: recovery there, nor was there any record of anybody getting
- 33:39Speaker 7: You don't know if that you prevented AID or HIV
- 33:42Speaker 7: or anything, because there was no there was no task
- 33:47Speaker 7: given before or after. In other words, all they did
- 33:50Speaker 7: was give away needles. But the council majority of council,
- 33:55Speaker 7: they loved it.
- 33:58Speaker 3: So it's definitely looking forward to that now. Last week
- 34:01Speaker 3: on the show, I had there's another gentleman who is
- 34:05Speaker 3: writing a book bill, Pacozy, very well known promoter, and
- 34:10Speaker 3: I joked, I said, well, we got two iconic Charleston
- 34:14Speaker 3: figures that have books out at the same time. Bill's
- 34:16Speaker 3: was already out, I think because he was at the
- 34:18Speaker 3: book festival of this this weekend. So well, there's a
- 34:22Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's two interesting reads by two
- 34:25Speaker 3: by to Charleston icons.
- 34:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I was listeninging. He doesn't care for me, you
- 34:32Speaker 7: said that. I think that I don't really know him.
- 34:37Speaker 7: He was upset that I became mayor. Hiss the worst
- 34:42Speaker 7: didn't come in and he used to have the barbecue
- 34:46Speaker 7: thing down here, ripped on the boulevard, and then it
- 34:51Speaker 7: does and then he he didn't have a quit having
- 34:55Speaker 7: it and he left because I was the mayor. That's
- 34:58Speaker 7: what he said news. I read the newspaper. So he
- 35:03Speaker 7: moved from town to town, and then he came back
- 35:07Speaker 7: and I got a call from the liquor commission. They
- 35:11Speaker 7: said he wants a beer license and the city has
- 35:15Speaker 7: to give permission. I said, fine, give him a beer license.
- 35:18Speaker 7: I don't know him. I mean, when you, when you
- 35:25Speaker 7: are elected official, when you occupy public space, people don't
- 35:32Speaker 7: like you.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Some people, especially when you're the mayor of the largest
- 35:37Speaker 3: city in West Virginia, the capital city, and no matter.
- 35:40Speaker 7: Who the mayor is, and they don't they don't like it.
- 35:44Speaker 7: And I don't.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Really care, especially now, you don't care. No, you didn't
- 35:50Speaker 3: care then.
- 35:51Speaker 7: No, I didn't. I didn't even know he was still around.
- 35:54Speaker 7: But like I say, I don't know him. I knew
- 35:56Speaker 7: his sister, Connie. She was a dance teacher.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Okay, all right, tex says I'm an independent voter and
- 36:03Speaker 3: I want to hear from my constituents. I think the
- 36:06Speaker 3: Republicans have been a huge disappointment to our state. No job,
- 36:10Speaker 3: still losing population, things getting worse. I think it depends
- 36:12Speaker 3: on I'll let you weigh in on that, but I
- 36:15Speaker 3: think it depends on where you live as to whether
- 36:17Speaker 3: there are no jobs and whether there's people moving in
- 36:20Speaker 3: because in the Eastern Panhandle it's exploding. Morgantown area's exploding.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Or I live in Taye Valley, it's about ready to
- 36:26Speaker 3: burst wide open again.
- 36:27Speaker 7: Yeah, but it's not here.
- 36:28Speaker 3: No, it's not everywhere.
- 36:30Speaker 7: I'll tell you. I'll tell you, I'll tell you South Charleston.
- 36:33Speaker 7: You know, they seem to be doing pretty well, but
- 36:38Speaker 7: the population of the state's going down. McDowell County when
- 36:45Speaker 7: I was born, had one hundred thousand people. One hundred thousand.
- 36:51Speaker 7: Now they're around nine.
- 36:52Speaker 3: If even that, and it's going down. It's going down.
- 36:54Speaker 7: I mean, I mean they couldn't even handle at Walmart.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the Walmart closed. I mean when that same me
- 37:00Speaker 3: heard of a Walmart club. But a lot of that
- 37:01Speaker 3: was because of employee theft. That was one of the
- 37:03Speaker 3: reasons why. But I've said this about Mingo County. Uh
- 37:07Speaker 3: back back when I was in school and growing up,
- 37:10Speaker 3: Williamson was one of our big rivals, being a Logan Wildcat.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Williamson High School in Mingo County went from Triple A
- 37:18Speaker 3: to Triple A to double A to single A to
- 37:22Speaker 3: gone in ten years. They can they consolidated all these
- 37:27Speaker 3: little high schools in Mingo County that they weren't always
- 37:30Speaker 3: little places like Lenore's Mingo Central, Mingo Central. And there's
- 37:34Speaker 3: only uh, there's only two high schools in the entire
- 37:37Speaker 3: county now, where at one time there was six seven
- 37:39Speaker 3: now there's two. Where where was war war was in
- 37:43Speaker 3: McDowell County. Okay, Yeah, but I mean all those little
- 37:47Speaker 3: towns had their high schools and so on and so forth,
- 37:49Speaker 3: and they just they just don't now. I mean it's sad.
- 37:53Speaker 7: Last week we talked about the No King's rally yep,
- 37:58Speaker 7: And I've been thinking about this and thinking about and
- 38:04Speaker 7: I think it was a little bit of a cop
- 38:06Speaker 7: out for me to have said it just I hate
- 38:10Speaker 7: Trump rally. I think the bigger picture here is, and
- 38:16Speaker 7: it goes with the MAGA crowd too, is that people
- 38:20Speaker 7: are seeking community. They're seeking community. Expound upon that, well,
- 38:26Speaker 7: they're seeking something to belong to and that gives them.
- 38:32Speaker 7: I mean, the people that were in that, in that
- 38:35Speaker 7: involved in that were all in a good mood. They
- 38:39Speaker 7: were all having fun. And unless I'm wrong.
- 38:43Speaker 3: And zero issues too, I mean, yeah, we're especially not
- 38:47Speaker 3: here in Charleston, I mean, or anywhere in West Virginia.
- 38:50Speaker 3: There were no issues there was no I mean, let's
- 38:53Speaker 3: face it, Danny wasn't January sixth, right.
- 38:57Speaker 7: I don't understand, and you know, it's no skin off
- 39:02Speaker 7: my nose. Why President Trump is obsessed with going to
- 39:06Speaker 7: these big cities, I just don't. That's their problem. It's
- 39:12Speaker 7: their problem. It's not a federal problem.
- 39:15Speaker 5: Now.
- 39:15Speaker 7: If he's going to guard federal courthouses or federal property,
- 39:23Speaker 7: that's totally different. And that's what happened in Portland, not
- 39:27Speaker 7: this time, but before he left office last time. They
- 39:32Speaker 7: were burning federal property. But if you want to if
- 39:40Speaker 7: you want to know about January sixth, read list Tenny's book.
- 39:45Speaker 7: I mean, now, I listened to it, and it is juicy.
- 39:49Speaker 7: It tells you what happened, blow by blow by blow.
- 39:53Speaker 7: I mean, this moved this way. And Mark Wayne Mullins,
- 39:58Speaker 7: who's now senator, you know the guy was he said,
- 40:02Speaker 7: you all go through that door right there, and Liz,
- 40:05Speaker 7: Liz changing those women looked at him and said, got it.
- 40:08Speaker 7: You know it was And she got into it with
- 40:12Speaker 7: Tom Delay on the floor and says, U f and
- 40:16Speaker 7: caused this. And you know everybody's sewed around F bombs.
- 40:20Speaker 7: And you know, Nancy Mace, you know, she's running for
- 40:25Speaker 7: governor down there in South Carolina, and she's was the
- 40:29Speaker 7: first female to graduate from the Citadel. And she was
- 40:38Speaker 7: on Bill maher a week or so ago and she
- 40:47Speaker 7: she uh dropped an F bomb.
- 40:51Speaker 3: What's cable television? You can do that on cable telling.
- 40:53Speaker 7: I'm not I'm not quarrel with that. But she's running
- 40:58Speaker 7: for governor. Were the most religious state in the counting point.
- 41:02Speaker 7: That's a very good point. I mean, if I was
- 41:04Speaker 7: her opponent, I said, what I mean doesn't offend me.
- 41:09Speaker 7: I've tried to get away from using that kind of language.
- 41:13Speaker 7: I am, I really am. I really working hard to
- 41:16Speaker 7: try to do that.
- 41:17Speaker 3: But me too, but it didn't always work. Let me
- 41:20Speaker 3: knock out. Let me knock out a couple of sects here.
- 41:22Speaker 3: When's the last time Riley Moore has been in DC
- 41:25Speaker 3: to work. It's been over a month. This has to stop. Now.
- 41:29Speaker 3: You wanna take a little Danny Jones' criticism here. Sure,
- 41:33Speaker 3: Danny allowed needles and it backfired on him, and he
- 41:35Speaker 3: started the blame game. You were mayor, it's on you,
- 41:37Speaker 3: and don't blame others. Just like them all.
- 41:44Speaker 7: Okay, there's there's a little bit of truth there. I
- 41:49Speaker 7: voted for it. I thought they were going to do
- 41:51Speaker 7: one hundred a week. They were doing twelve thousand every Wednesday,
- 41:56Speaker 7: and when we tried to stop it, the majority of
- 42:02Speaker 7: council went against us. But then we did an undercover
- 42:11Speaker 7: sting operation on them to prove they weren't following the procedures.
- 42:16Speaker 7: So Steve Cooper shut it down or told them they
- 42:20Speaker 7: had to shut it down, and they shut it down
- 42:23Speaker 7: on their own.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Texays touted all these town halls, by the way, gops
- 42:28Speaker 3: held a lot more over time. So how about you
- 42:31Speaker 3: and all other state Democrat contact Schumer and Jeffrey's office
- 42:35Speaker 3: to demand they joined Fetterman and Warno to pass the
- 42:38Speaker 3: CR And what do any of you say in response
- 42:41Speaker 3: to all those videos posted by people saying they will
- 42:43Speaker 3: steal cartloads of food if they don't get their food stamps.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Not one word of condemnation from Democrats. I think that
- 42:49Speaker 3: was probably aimed it to a delegate Kayale Young, texays,
- 42:52Speaker 3: it's not the Republicans. This is all on the Democrats,
- 42:55Speaker 3: and you know it.
- 42:58Speaker 7: I think right now it is because the Democrats could
- 43:02Speaker 7: It would seem to me like the leadership should say okay,
- 43:06Speaker 7: that's what we'll do. You pass a c R and
- 43:10Speaker 7: well and are in some good faith negotiations about medicaid?
- 43:13Speaker 7: Is that what the problem is? You know?
- 43:16Speaker 3: Well? And it all goes back to you know a
- 43:18Speaker 3: lot of the I mean, and I'm not trying to
- 43:21Speaker 3: sound like TJ. Meadows here, and then we got to
- 43:22Speaker 3: do the break one way or the other, Danny, this
- 43:25Speaker 3: country is broke. It is broke, and it's getting broker,
- 43:29Speaker 3: you know, for lack of a better term. And the
- 43:31Speaker 3: only difference between the Republicans and the Democrats right now
- 43:34Speaker 3: is the amount that the Republicans want to add less
- 43:38Speaker 3: a few less trillion dollars than what Democrats do. That's
- 43:41Speaker 3: the only difference. Both sides don't seem to get it.
- 43:45Speaker 7: Do you know who you sound like? Is that Stephen A.
- 43:50Speaker 3: I'm a fan of Steven except he hates the Dallas
- 43:53Speaker 3: Cowboys and so other than that, he's okay, Well, we
- 43:57Speaker 3: got to take a break, my Steeler. He could well.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Dallas is the number one rated offense in the league

- 47:13Speaker 3: Texas Hello and good morning. Will the book be available
- 47:15Speaker 3: on audible?
- 47:18Speaker 7: You know, I thought about that because I do audible.
- 47:21Speaker 7: I buy all my books on audible. But I'd have
- 47:25Speaker 7: to have so many different voices on there. Couldn't It
- 47:28Speaker 7: could be me, and it could be Charlie. And I'm
- 47:32Speaker 7: sure I could get JB. He's in it. I don't
- 47:37Speaker 7: know if I could get Otis has got a big
- 47:39Speaker 7: chapter in there. Otis Lowry. There's a guy that I
- 47:47Speaker 7: grew up with that if it hadn't been for him,
- 47:50Speaker 7: he's still around her. He retired from DuPont. His name
- 47:56Speaker 7: Richard Butler, and if it hadn't been for him, I'd
- 48:01Speaker 7: be changing bedpans in the hospital somewhere.
- 48:05Speaker 6: What did he do?
- 48:07Speaker 7: We were at the Hub, there's a poor whom I
- 48:09Speaker 7: hung out at, and a guy came in there and
- 48:13Speaker 7: offered a job to work the Roaring Twenties, which was
- 48:19Speaker 7: the best nightclub in the city. And he said ten
- 48:26Speaker 7: dollars a night to wash glasses. Richard took it. None
- 48:29Speaker 7: of us said any money. We didn't have jobs. And
- 48:32Speaker 7: then George Jarrett, who I named my son afternoon he
- 48:35Speaker 7: went up. Richard then became a bartender, and then George
- 48:39Speaker 7: went up and started watching glasses. Well, I couldn't I
- 48:42Speaker 7: looked fourteen years old. I couldn't get a job. So
- 48:45Speaker 7: I went back to the Sterling and stayed there until
- 48:50Speaker 7: I went until I got out of high school. And
- 48:52Speaker 7: also later on I started working on cars, and when
- 48:58Speaker 7: I was drafted, I was, you know, working on cars.
- 49:02Speaker 7: I built a race car.
- 49:03Speaker 9: And but.
- 49:07Speaker 7: I didn't Richard. You know, I followed Richard. Whatever he did,
- 49:12Speaker 7: I did. I mean, he was the leader of George
- 49:17Speaker 7: and me and he we have those moments, that titular
- 49:26Speaker 7: moments in our lives, and that was one for me,
- 49:30Speaker 7: and it was at the Hub Poor Room, and I
- 49:33Speaker 7: don't know what I'd be doing if I hadn't been
- 49:34Speaker 7: for that. That's when I became indelibly part of the
- 49:39Speaker 7: streets of the city. I mean that's when I would
- 49:44Speaker 7: we get off work. I'd get off work at six
- 49:46Speaker 7: o'clock in the morning. I didn't have a car, so
- 49:48Speaker 7: I walked home. Richard and George would walk across the
- 49:53Speaker 7: bridge and thumb out Ferry Branch Road on the ramp,
