- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So in our Energy Series, here we are talking today about time
- 0:37management because so many people say they suck at time
- 0:40management and they'll say I've tried time blocking, I've tried
- 0:45schedules that are electronic, I've tried written ones, I've
- 0:48tried it all and nothing works well.
- 0:51Usually, typically when that happens and you are that person
- 0:55that's struggling with that. There's a big question of, well,
- 0:59do you really want to do the things that you have on your
- 1:01schedule? And as soon as I say that,
- 1:04people will either start laughing or crying.
- 1:06I mean, it's usually one of those two reactions.
- 1:08And they're like, yeah, probably I don't want to do them.
- 1:11And yeah, probably that's true. So we will avoid the things we
- 1:15don't want to do. And it doesn't matter if they're
- 1:17on the calendar, doesn't matter if they're staring us right in
- 1:20the face. We will put them off to the side
- 1:22because we don't want to do them and it's a problem.
- 1:27Now the question comes back to do you really have to do them
- 1:31and are they something that you can leverage?
- 1:33And if you can leverage, why are you not leveraging them?
- 1:36We have to look at these things because if you're trying to
- 1:39manage time and you're putting so much into your schedule that
- 1:43you can't handle it and you don't want to do the things
- 1:46you're supposed to handle, you're you've created a perfect
- 1:49recipe for disaster. You're you're.
- 1:52As I love to tell people it's a successful strategy for failure.
- 1:56Because you can't. You're not going to get past
- 1:57yourself because you're trying to create enough discomfort that
- 2:01you force yourself. The part of your you that's
- 2:04really like you you let's let's let's think of it this way.
- 2:07Your heart is trying to make you uncomfortable enough so that
- 2:10your head will actually do something different and it will
- 2:13just keep doing it. It will just keep doing it until
- 2:16something changes. So.
- 2:18You can change it or you can keep suffering, but I would hope
- 2:22that you would look at it so you could change it.
- 2:24Now the biggest piece of for me of time management with clients
- 2:28all the time. Once you recognize this part of
- 2:30it and you really got a handle on what that looks like as far
- 2:34as what you don't want to do, what you can leverage, I'm
- 2:37telling you, sit down and make lists.
- 2:39Make a list of everything so you can see it and categorize it.
- 2:42And once you have that list, you have a power list, You can start
- 2:46to decide, OK, this is going to go here.
- 2:48I'm going to leverage this out. I'm going to have somebody else
- 2:51take this on. Even things like grocery
- 2:54shopping that stress people out, you have ways now to get around
- 2:57that. You can go on your phone, order
- 2:59the groceries, have them. They're all packaged up.
- 3:01You pull up to the grocery store and they hand you your stuff and
- 3:04it's all paid for. I actually had a client tell me
- 3:06recently. And that she's like, well, what
- 3:09if they don't pick what I want? I'm like, well, they'll fix it.
- 3:12And she's like, oh, but then I'd have to drive back and I said
- 3:15yes, but you'd already have 95% of all the things that you
- 3:18wanted, right? So isn't that better than that?
- 3:21And she's like, well, I guess I never thought of it that way.
- 3:23And this is what happens. We get so stuck in our sense of
- 3:26control over things and trying to make it be something that is,
- 3:32you know, just. Outside of our reach, we're just
- 3:36like, ah, just you're so used to complaining about it, you don't
- 3:39look at it to fix it. And there are great ways to fix
- 3:42things, my friends, so it doesn't matter.
- 3:45It's it's putting yourself into the position of recognizing the
- 3:50stress. And I genuinely mean this.
- 3:52The stress of dealing with time and the things that you put on
- 3:56the list is far more detrimental than anything you will ever
- 4:01experience if they put the wrong thing in the grocery bag.
- 4:04Like, I know that sounds funny, but it really will.
- 4:07The stress is killing us, all of us, slowly, unless we manage it.
- 4:10So we have to think about this. And stress from time is the
- 4:14number one thing that I hear people complain about all all
- 4:19the time. They mention it nearly every
- 4:22time that we, I will talk to people, they'll say, Oh yeah, I
- 4:25lost track of time, stress of this and blah blah, too much
- 4:29because we put too much on our plates.
- 4:31So first and foremost, The thing is look at.
- 4:34Once you have that list down and you can figure out what you're
- 4:36leveraging and sort it all out, if you can't leverage things,
- 4:41then it's like, OK, well then you have to paste them into the
- 4:44calendar. You don't block them all into
- 4:46one day. Now I admittedly am a like I
- 4:49like to call it, eating the broccoli.
- 4:51So there are days when I will eat the broccoli and I will just
- 4:54stack the entire day with things.
- 4:56And admittedly, I know it's a risk.
- 5:00And admittedly. I usually screw it up and I
- 5:03don't get it complete because it's too much.
- 5:06I did that to myself over the weekend and I stacked myself
- 5:09with recording, recording, recording, and I was stressing
- 5:13myself out and I'm like, why am I doing this?
- 5:15I knew this was a problem when I know I still have another day
- 5:18that I can do it and I just didn't schedule it that way.
- 5:21So I stopped. I restructured, I rescheduled,
- 5:24and I immediately felt the difference in my body.
- 5:27I immediately was able to like just.
- 5:30Change my whole perspective because I had changed my time.
- 5:33I changed I I I was just really focused on where can I put it,
- 5:37where can I go. And I had a full day coming up
- 5:40where I can take care of what I need to take care of.
- 5:42And that's what happened. And as soon as I did that, I was
- 5:45like, OK, I'm good. I'm in a much better place.
- 5:48So stop. Go back and look at those things
- 5:52first and foremost. See.
- 5:54Make the list. Do the brain dump of all the
- 5:56stuff so you can figure out what's correct for you, what can
- 6:00be leveraged, what you can. Then reschedule out and give
- 6:04yourself enough time. OK, my friends, I will see you
- 6:08tomorrow. I hope you have a blessed day.
- 6:10Bye.
