- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to a special edition of The Naughty but Nice Show.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So Monday to Friday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,
- 0:23Speaker 1: we do a twenty minute podcast on all the celebrity
- 0:25Speaker 1: news or the celebrity gossip of the day. We love it. However,
- 0:29Speaker 1: as well as being one of the most dry gossip
- 0:31Speaker 1: columnists in the world, I'm also a best selling author
- 0:35Speaker 1: of self help author I'm recognized as one of the
- 0:39Speaker 1: leading experts on habits, on change, on self and so
- 0:43Speaker 1: On the weekends, we do these short podcasts only about
- 0:46Speaker 1: ten minutes to hopefully set us up to have an
- 0:50Speaker 1: amazing week, and amazing month, an amazing year, and amazing life.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Today's podcast is all about remembering that every smart person
- 1:03Speaker 1: sets a deadlon. How often do you put off doing
- 1:08Speaker 1: something that makes you feel uncomfortable? Saying I will do
- 1:12Speaker 1: it tomorrow is the easiest way to make sure it
- 1:17Speaker 1: will never happen. I know it's a lot easier to
- 1:21Speaker 1: say I'll do it tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes unless
- 1:26Speaker 1: you set a deadlon and you stick to it. No
- 1:30Speaker 1: one knows that better than I do. After almost a
- 1:33Speaker 1: decade of putting things off and pushing away my dreams,
- 1:39Speaker 1: all of that changed when I started being honest with
- 1:42Speaker 1: myself about the real reason I was doing it, The
- 1:47Speaker 1: real reason I was putting everything off until tomorrow, the
- 1:49Speaker 1: real reason I could never get anything done. The real
- 1:53Speaker 1: reason was because I was scared, frightened to go after
- 1:58Speaker 1: my dreams. It felt safer to convince myself that I
- 2:03Speaker 1: would get around to it one day, rather than letting
- 2:07Speaker 1: today be the one day of getting it done. Pablo
- 2:13Speaker 1: Picasso said the following, I love this quote. Only put
- 2:17Speaker 1: off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having
- 2:22Speaker 1: left undone. How truthful is that, when it comes to
- 2:26Speaker 1: getting stuff done, you really have two options, change or excuses.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It's that simple. Excuses are just our fears, desperately hoping
- 2:39Speaker 1: to convince you not to do something newer, keeping you
- 2:43Speaker 1: in your comfort zone, in a place that feels familiar.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You are never too busy, never too old, never to stooping,
- 2:51Speaker 1: never too fat, never to anything to make a change.
- 2:56Speaker 1: You're making excuses. What you're doing is making excuses because
- 3:00Speaker 1: you were frightened. Then next time you make an excuse,
- 3:04Speaker 1: admit it. Admit that you are scared, and then this
- 3:07Speaker 1: is really important, set a deadline. Julie Andrews, who I love.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I've met her a couple of times, said quote. There
- 3:15Speaker 1: will be many times in your life, at school or
- 3:18Speaker 1: when you are a grown up, when people will distract
- 3:21Speaker 1: or divert you from what needs to be done. You
- 3:26Speaker 1: may even welcome the distraction, but if you use it
- 3:30Speaker 1: as an excuse for not doing what you are really
- 3:33Speaker 1: supposed to do, you can blame no one but yourself.
- 3:37Speaker 1: If you truly wish to accomplish something, you should allow
- 3:41Speaker 1: nothing to stop you, and chances are you will succeed.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I would distract myself all the time. Now I understand
- 3:50Speaker 1: that what I was doing was actually looking for excuses
- 3:54Speaker 1: because I was scared. I didn't think I deserved a
- 3:57Speaker 1: good life. It's that sad, but it's true. Didn't think
- 4:00Speaker 1: I deserved it. I lived in fear that one day
- 4:03Speaker 1: I would be exposed as a total fraud. Now I
- 4:08Speaker 1: know I deserve a great life and won't let anyone,
- 4:11Speaker 1: including myself sabotaget. Don't be scared, be smart. When we
- 4:18Speaker 1: are honest with ourselves, our fears don't disappear, but our excuses.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Do you have to push forward even if your legs
- 4:28Speaker 1: are shaking, keep walking, even if your voice is trembling
- 4:33Speaker 1: with fear. Speak up and refuse to be silenced. Don't
- 4:38Speaker 1: forget you are smart and brave enough to go after
- 4:42Speaker 1: all your dreams. Mark Zuckerberg said quote, the biggest risk
- 4:48Speaker 1: is not taking any risk at all. The only strategy
- 4:52Speaker 1: that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks. Smart
- 4:58Speaker 1: people are never too busy to make time to do
- 5:02Speaker 1: what is important. They don't cloak themselves with excuses to
- 5:07Speaker 1: stop themselves from doing anything new. Rather, they opt for
- 5:12Speaker 1: an extraordinary life rather than a safe one. You have
- 5:17Speaker 1: to take chances or you're never going to grow. And
- 5:21Speaker 1: if you never grow because you keep making excuses, you
- 5:25Speaker 1: will regret it. Cameronda said quote, Your regrets aren't what
- 5:31Speaker 1: you did, but what you didn't do. So I take
- 5:35Speaker 1: every opportunity me too, Cameron. Procrastination is not who you are,
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's what you do. Let me say that again. Procrastination,
- 5:46Speaker 1: it's not who you are, it's what you do. It's
- 5:49Speaker 1: a bad habit to procrastinate. It's not in your DNA,
- 5:54Speaker 1: it's not your natural state of being. And It's not
- 5:58Speaker 1: something that was God given to you. No one was
- 6:01Speaker 1: born a procrastinator. Rather, some have a bad habit of procrastinating.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I know I did to break it. Write down all
- 6:10Speaker 1: things that you don't want to do today. The phone
- 6:14Speaker 1: calls you want to ignore, the emails you don't want
- 6:16Speaker 1: to respond to, and the conversations you don't want to have,
- 6:20Speaker 1: and the tasks that you've been putting off forever. Now,
- 6:25Speaker 1: start with the one thing you want to do the least.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Get it out of the way, and get it out
- 6:31Speaker 1: of your mind. The very last person I want to
- 6:35Speaker 1: speak to is always the first person I call. The
- 6:38Speaker 1: thing that I avoid the most is the first thing
- 6:41Speaker 1: I get done in the morning. It does not matter
- 6:45Speaker 1: if you start scared, or late, or even start over.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You just need to start, and once you do, you
- 6:52Speaker 1: will discover that that is the best way to silence
- 6:56Speaker 1: your fears. John Lennon said quote, there are two basic
- 7:01Speaker 1: motivating forces in life, fear and love. When we are afraid,
- 7:07Speaker 1: we pull back from life. When we are in love,
- 7:11Speaker 1: we open to all that life has to offer. We
- 7:15Speaker 1: need to learn to love ourselves first. If we cannot
- 7:18Speaker 1: love ourselves, we cannot be fully open to our ability
- 7:23Speaker 1: to love others. Take a deep breath and have faith
- 7:26Speaker 1: in yourself every lesson, every challenge, and every hard moment.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Everything you are learning along the way will help you
- 7:37Speaker 1: to get where you need to go. And always set
- 7:42Speaker 1: a deadline. Ashton Kutcher send quote, The sexiest thing in
- 7:48Speaker 1: the world is being really smart and being thoughtful and
- 7:52Speaker 1: being generous. Everything else is crap. I promise you it's
- 7:57Speaker 1: just crap. People try to sell you to make you
- 7:59Speaker 1: feel like less, so don't buy it. Be smart, be generous,
- 8:04Speaker 1: be thoughtful, and always always set a deadline. Hey, thank
- 8:10Speaker 1: you so much for listening to these weekend editions of
- 8:13Speaker 1: The Naughty but Nice Show. I know it's a little
- 8:16Speaker 1: strange having the in your ear Monday to Friday talking
- 8:21Speaker 1: reporting on celebrities, and then on the weekend doing this,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but I love it, and our numbers are just so phenomenal.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think we're really hitting a nerve here. We all
- 8:30Speaker 1: need just ten minutes, ten minutes. It's every weekend to
- 8:34Speaker 1: think about ourselves. After all, you are the start. It's
- 8:42Speaker 1: not even nice with Rah
