- Nathan Hawthorne: We are live in three. Here we are. You love it. Hey, you know what? Every once in a while you come in. You know, you're trying to figure out the flow, figure out the vibe. And you gotta redo the take just a little bit. But ladies and gentlemen, what we're not gonna redo is that intro, because I thought it was absolutely perfect. Welcome to another episode of KYP. This is episode number 19, aka Know Your Personnel. My name's Nathan Hawthorne. This is my co-host Jared McEnroy, here bringing you the greatest sports news in history. Jarod McInroy: You had to redo that part of Mm-hmm. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ my goodness, we got the NBA absolutely popping off today. We're gonna go ahead and jump right into that. Portland Trailblazers fans over here on this side of the Mississippi River. John Morant just got signed. Initial reaction. Go. Jarod McInroy: Initial reaction is we gave nothing to get him. ultimately w they they dumped a contract on over. Yeah, okay. ⁓ they they dumped a contract to us and we dumped a contract to them. ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: Giving up Jeremy Grant's nothing? Jarod McInroy: What wha what what am I what do you what do you gotta say here, pal? Can I get into this or what? Can I get into this or what? Nathan Hawthorne: But I'm I'm just saying like you're giving up just you're saying that giving up Jeremy Grant is nothing. I mean, you can get into it. I want you to get into it, but just d saying Jeremy Grant is nothing, like that kinda struck a chord with me. That kinda hurt. Jarod McInroy: Okay. Jeremy Grant is a great player. He is a great Portlander. ⁓ we will miss him dearly. However, somebody's gotta go. And ⁓ I in my lifetime there I've not seen the Trailblazers trade for an all-star caliber player many times. I if any. I can't really think of any that come to the top of my head. So ⁓ this is an exciting moment for us because we're doing something different. I've told you a million times the thing I hate the most is doing the same thing over Nathan Hawthorne: That's fair. Jarod McInroy: And over and over and over again, trying to think that okay, if we run it back if we do this, no, let's just take big swings, do something different. We owe it to Dame. Finally, he came back. He didn't have to do this, he didn't have to give us another shot. We owe it to him to go all in one single time before his career is over. Stop. Let me get through this, okay? I don't want to hear I don't want to see the faces. I don't want to hear it. Let me get through this. Nathan Hawthorne: All Okay, okay. Jarod McInroy: Not only do we go get John Morant to work in the backcourt with him, we have a lot of flexibility. We got assets, we got scoot, we got shading, we got tons of picks, we got these Milwaukee picks that seem more and more valuable every single day, ⁓ pick swaps rather. And there's a lot of names on the market, and a lot of them fit what we need. This Jalen Brown thing is really taking, you know, form and we don't know what the asking price is actually going to be because nobody's given them what they they've wanted so far. ⁓ so we could we could maybe strike a deal there. ⁓ Trey Murphy's on the board. ⁓ we're in you know, and then there's a few like little free agent pieces that that might help us out. We just went and got some backup center for ⁓ from Oklahoma City that might fit into our team a little bit. He's a seven footer. ⁓ never hurts to have more seven footers. ⁓ Kelly Ubre's in talks to pi ⁓ potentially sign with us. ⁓ and then we went and re signed Rob William Rob Williams the third rather. Nathan Hawthorne: It's a great signing. Jarod McInroy: great signing. He was great for us last year. He incredible. ⁓ and he'll continue to ⁓ progress. He's still weirdly young, regardless of what he looks like. He's still only like twenty-seven. So like th these these are the moves. You have to have depth, ⁓ in the big swings. And I get it. I understand everybody's pause with Jaw. I understand everybody's pause with having a lot of guards. We are gonna be moving off of some of these guards, so let's not overreact to that. But also we just saw a team win the NBA finals who has Jalen Brunson, Jose Alvarado, Deuce McBride, Jordan Clarkson, like ⁓ Landry Shamit, a bunch of guards who play all their minutes for them. Josh Hart, Olive Dudes, all of these dudes are six five and under. And that's all these dudes are six five and under, and they're five of their nine-man rotation. So you can't tell me it does not work. You have to have the right scheme. You have to have the right people and Nathan Hawthorne: You have to have ball hand you have to have ball handler depth. You have to have ball handler depth. Jarod McInroy: And these are the right people. You have a defensive guard and Drew Holiday. You have offensive talent and and Dame who can shoot the crap out of the ball. ⁓ you got people who can slash and take the ball to the rim, like jaw, like scoot, like and and Shaden can do all of it. ⁓ and if we get rid of Shaden, 'cause he's probably the odd man out, we'll go and get some ⁓ something else to fill a hole, but I love what we're doing. I think we're in a great place. We're we're so close. Like we're not there yet. But we're we're one or two moves away from really making noise. One or two moves away. Well what do you gotta say? What what what do you what are you crapping on my parade for? Let's go. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. No, just you said you said all star caliber player and just the the all star part of two of seven years, it's just doing some really heavy lifting because it hasn't been recent. And that's what I look at. I'm a what have you done for me lately guy? You know, and that's how I feel. Could Portland be a rehab place for him? Yeah, you get in the building with Damian Lillard, ⁓ you know, a consummate professional. Perhaps that gets him moving in the right track, whether that comes to the rehab of his ACL and starting to play off of that and ⁓ really finding his way back to his game, or whether that's anything off the court. There's not a lot of trouble you can get into in Portland. There's a lot of ⁓ facilities that lack clothing that you can go to. But other than that, there's not a lot of trouble that he can get into that can get into in Portland. So I'm not unhappy he's here. And of course, we know we're gonna move on from some of these guards. ⁓ you know, I don't know. You know, I don't I don't think Denny is truly the guy at the end of the day. I think he's fantastic. And so what we're currently building around, I just I don't know. But like you said, it's something that's entirely different. It's a it's a bigger swing than we've usually taken. I think tra making this trade, you know, four or five years ago when Ja was at the top of his game, obviously not likely and not po not plausible, but like That's what I'm talking about with big swings. This one to me, like you said, you said at the same time it's a salary dump. At the same time it's a big swing. So I'm not really sure where exactly it's at. Jarod McInroy: It is a big swing. We're taking a big risk on on a guy who, like you said, hasn't been super healthy as of late, hasn't been super available because of sp suspensions as of late. So that is a big swing. The talent has never not been there. We c we're not gonna pretend like he hasn't when he's on the court, he's not good. Like that that's where I'm like we need to we need to hold off. It's can we get this guy on the court consistently? And if y when I'm talking about what we got rid of, we got rid of paying Jeremy Grant thirty four million dollars. this year and then next year he has a player ⁓ option in which he's probably gonna take it because no one's gonna give him thirty-four million dollars a year, so he's gonna take the money. So in terms of we're salary dumping that contract, his production is nowhere near $34 million worth. And then we tagged on Chris Murray, who we have seen enough. We've given him enough minutes. He's not much. He's not much to work with. So it's th that's what I mean by a big swing is like we're taking a chance on this guy Nathan Hawthorne: Agreed Chris Murray. Jarod McInroy: Jeremy Grant is a great contract to have in a piece for a trade because we have to match salaries. For example, if we wanted to go get Jalen Brown, we have to make up the amount of his salary to get off the books. That's actually a valuable asset to a team. So if we're moving on from him, now we if we want to go get Jalen Brown, we also have to get rid of probably Drew Holiday because of the contract matching. ⁓ so Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. You know, I'll I'll reframe this. And this is what we do in marketing. We we take something and we reframe it so that we're never wrong. Okay. So it's not that we took a big swing. Okay, follow me. We swung at a pitch that we don't usually swing at. You know, some guys right? We swung at a pitch we don't normally swing at. Okay. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. Okay. Yeah, we swung at a pitch that we don't usually swing at. Good point. But we're about to make a big swing is what I'm saying. This whole off season will be a big swing altogether. When we're all said and done, ⁓ it would be the Cronin special to just run this exact team out. And and it would hurt. It would really hurt. I'll tell you what. Especially with the names we have available, but hey. Man, if you go get me one of, you know Nathan Hawthorne: It it which is my which is my concern. Which is my concern. Jarod McInroy: I know LeBron's a long shot, but he he he's got Nike ties, so maybe LeBron comes out. Maybe LeBron comes out. ⁓ no, but honestly, like I love the fit of Trey Murphy, a guy who can ⁓ shoot the three at a high clip, plays really good defense, he's long, he's that like six nine frame that we've been wanting that that OG Anunobi type of player to have on your team ⁓ to go alongside Danny and Tumani. ⁓ and we would just have to give up so much less. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ my gosh. I don't even want him in Portland. I don't even want him in Portland. Jarod McInroy: There there's a world where we could get Trey Murphy and we wouldn't even have to give up Drew Holiday. All of a sudden we have Dame, Drew, and Jaw, and we didn't have to give up Scoot. Like we're we have depth. And that's what I like. We n we need to have depth and we need to have we also don't know how much Dame's gonna be able to play. So like Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah That's what I'm saying. That's another hole to poke, which leads me to believe, okay, we actually maybe need to keep some of these guards because of that. If we have to, if some other guards have to play big minutes, and then that changes, okay, how much do we really have to offer for these big swings? I d I'm I remain optimistic. But this Neil Olshay to Cronin to somehow they're keeping him on this contract. And I guess our our new owner, he's not gonna try and buy anybody out. He's not gonna, you know, spend a dime. He doesn't have to, so he's letting this contract ride. But again, like you said, I wouldn't put it past us to just yeah, run these guys out on the court. You gotta put five guys on the court. And we have it, we've got it. We we've got at least five guys. I did want to ⁓ Blazor Twitter's been fantastic. So I wanted to kind of look at a few of my favorite tweets ⁓ that we've seen. ⁓ and I'll Jarod McInroy: You do. We got plenty of guys. We got bodies. Are we giving credit out here? Nathan Hawthorne: No, absolutely not. We can't we can't we can give we can throw some credit, but some of them you don't know because they get reposted so many times and you got people stealing. So if you hear your tweet, go ahead and tag us. You know, go comment, we'll we'll retroactively give you some credit. First one, someone's gotta get jaw an Oregonian window decal. For th for those of you that got for those of you that don't know, Oregon, very liberal state, do not like guns in this area. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ sorry. Sorry, creators. Great tweet. Nathan Hawthorne: Get him at Oregonian. Get him one of those ⁓ little decals for his car. That'd be awesome. Jarod McInroy: Can I throw one out there that I liked a lot? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Jarod McInroy: the nickname for him and Danny being guns and Moses is is an all timer. That's like that's Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Guns and Moses. Can I can I raise you one for that same nickname? It's Jerusalem. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Yeah. Ja Rusalem is is elite. That's a really good one as well. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ that's good. ⁓ Jarod McInroy: And then we can't forget the him and dame shot clock. I love it. It's simple, it's it's easy. We got dame time, we got jaw coming in, shot clock, that's the duo. Nathan Hawthorne: Shot clock. And then ⁓ I can't believe Nike got Josh shipped right to Portland. Those shoes were going so crazy. They said, You ain't fucking this up for us anymore. Bring yourself to headquarters. We're gonna take care of you. Sorry for the language there. Hey, we'll bleep that out. But I thought that was hilarious because his shoe really is doing well in terms of new signature footwear because he's so people don't understand. Like there's big names in the NBA and then there's big names on the street culture of NBA. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Hey this is a fr family friendly pod. Nathan Hawthorne: Like people as big as a star l as Lamello Ball is, he's an even bigger star in the streets, if you will. His shoe goes triple platinum. It it's incredible. As soon as he got done with doing that triple B stuff, which, you know, injured him and Lonzo. But ⁓ yeah, incredible stuff. ⁓ Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Those shoes are actually the the jaw shoes are nice. I like it. I like the the Czech logo with that. Yeah, it's it's nice. Nathan Hawthorne: Do you ⁓ do you have any other tweets that you saw? Jarod McInroy: That that's all I got for that's family friendly here. I I I don't need to go too crazy here, but ⁓ let's just say Blazor Twitter's undefeated. We got some in which brings me to my next thing. Celtics Twitter is just as delirious as Miami Twitter. I'm getting all of ⁓ because, you know, I'm I'm checking up on the the NBA. Those two fan bases don't have a clue of what's going on. They want the whole world to Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha ha. ⁓ No idea. Jarod McInroy: in in this Jalen Brown thing is turning into Giannis two point in terms of ⁓ just the the mind games. I don't like the mind games of the trade season. I don't like the mind games of the off season because as a fan we as fans we can see right through it. We know we know the Blazers. We're not giving up Klingon and Shaden and Scoot and Drew to Machacontra. We're not giving all of those dudes up just for Jalen Brown and they want three picks. Like th it's they're delirious. Miami and you know what, the like I said last episode, the beef is live with Miami still. They wanted Jaw, so the fact that we got him, that's another win for us, bro. I I love it. But God, these fan bases and and this Jalen Brown thing is taking a it's taking a mind of its own. It's it's too much for me. Nathan Hawthorne: You know This was the best case scenario year for the Boston Celtics outside of winning the NBA finals. You got Jalen Brown on a solo feature year, essentially, without Jason Tatum to show off how good he is and how impactful he is for your team. And I thought he did a fantastic job carrying this roster until Jas ⁓ until Jason Tatum got back, right? So you're thinking, ⁓ my gosh, his value has to be through the roof. But I still think that there is this edginess that is very clear. Jarod McInroy: Twenty nine points a game. Nathan Hawthorne: amongst the NBA that Jalen Brown may not be liked in the locker room and or by the NBA executives because of his opinions off the court, which is frustrating, right? You're not allowed to be the guy that you want to be. You're not allowed to call out certain power structures and dynamics within the NBA and the corporate world and the corporate part of the NBA. But yeah, he's that his value is weirdly not not reflective of his contract and the value that he provides to you on the court. It feels very strange. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, and it's weird because the way they're ta like again, there's there's no world in any situation we would see a team move off a guy like this who's just like he he is still at his peak. Like he he he peaked in their championship year for sure, but like he's he's kept that he's plateaued that peak. He's still doing it. He put him twenty nine a game, like I just said. ⁓ it's a weird situation. It's weird. And it might not be as weird as another trade that we need to talk about. Why Leonard getting dumped out to Toronto? Is he running from the government? Nathan Hawthorne: That man's escaping. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. I mean, going going back to Toronto, that man was so mad when he got sent to Toronto, wins the championship, can't wait to get out of Toronto. And it was like, you know what, Toronto sounds pretty good right now. I mean, what are we talking about? I mean, okay. So what was the name of that shell company that Balmer was paying him through? It was ⁓ let me see my notes here, Aspiration. So he was getting paid Jarod McInroy: If he only plays the home games, we're on to something. I forget what it was something like that, you know. Nathan Hawthorne: Part of his salary or a way to circumvent the salary through aspiration, one of their co-founders was sentenced to fourteen years in federal prison. Jarod McInroy: Who do you think's next on that list? Nathan Hawthorne: That's what I'm saying. And the NBA has done a great job. Right now it's only an internal NBA investigation. And then there's a civil case that mentions Steve Ballmer right now. But yeah, if you're Kawhi Leonard, you are getting outside of the FBI's jurisdiction immediately. They're cracking down on the gambling already. They're cracking down on some NBA players' extracurricular activities. It's getting sketchy for him. I don't think he would actually make it to Toronto. I mean, there's what is he gonna do? Go to Toronto and play only home games? And the NBA is still an American corporation, you think that they can't l I just what what does escaping to Toronto really do if it's that dangerous? That's what I'm getting at. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Well, the other thing too is ⁓ where it gets even more sketchy is Sham says today that he wanted out to specifically to Toronto so he can go retire. So now he's talking retirement, like he he w he needs to be he wants to be done. I think he's gonna ride this out until it like gets even worse and then he's in he's off to Turks and Caicos, like he's outta here. ⁓ it's just a w but Nathan Hawthorne: He's not touching foot on US soil ever again. Jarod McInroy: So so then we we see it from Kawaii's perspective, but I don't understand Toronto why you would go give up all of that for him. When you know the situation, you know what's going on, you've seen I mean he's he's hasn't produced, you know, incredibly ⁓ these these last weird few years for the Clippers, although the team hasn't really had a direction. ⁓ but they gave up two firsts, they gave up Brandon Ingram, they gave up Grady Dick, like they They gave up some actually good assets that they could have put together in a trade package for somebody else. And yeah Exactly Exactly. ⁓ it's just it's weird, man. These these off season moves have been very interesting and I think it's because Nathan Hawthorne: A dick and a pick. Jarod McInroy: The Spurs, the Thunder, and now the Knicks have just thrown everybody into a frenzy. They don't know what they need to do. They're trying to emulate what's working. Their teams are, like I said, taking big swings. And ⁓ I I don't get it. It's weird. It doesn't make sense from Tor like Toronto's just gonna keep being bad. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ will they be bad? Jarod McInroy: Yeah, they will. Do you remember the listen. Nathan Hawthorne: You got Kawhi, you got Scotty Barnes, you've got I think RJ Barrett, you've got ⁓ who's the new kid? ⁓ Pertle or Kevin Poetle Podl? Jacob Jacob Purdle. He he'll be all right. Jarod McInroy: I don't know if you remember this. Jacob Purdle. He's yeah, he he's been around for a min No. ⁓ here's the thing. I don't know if you remember last episode. I named seven teams better than the Miami Heat. Where do you think Toronto falls into that? Nathan Hawthorne: Yikes. Toronto, even with Kawhi. Because again, you don't Kawhi's gonna play 15 games. Right? If that's if he's healthy. And that's of the what 30 that he or 37 that he's gonna be allowed to play. You know, for those home games. So I mean, it's gonna be a tough look. I still think I still I still think a worse trade, and they say this in golf. They say this in any sport golf, basketball, football. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Telling you, man, they're not gonna be good. Nathan Hawthorne: Don't compound errors. Don't add a mistake on top of another mistake. And I think that's what Minnesota did trading for LaMelo Ball. You are infinitely more interesting with LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards, but you are a worse basketball team because you gave up one of your glue pieces in Nas Reed. You did it the first time with Carl Anthony Towns. Say what you want. Maybe he hadn't hit his alpha status yet in terms of taking over and truly dominating games, being a force, especially late in games, but you gave him up. And then now you and you went with Julius Randle, a ball dominant forward who's not really a center, but really wants to score all the time. And now you've moved on from Randall and you've traded Nasr. Like when you talk about lacking direction, what was the point? What was the point? Like Randall was never gonna work in the first place. And certainly now LaMelo is not is not the answer to your problem. Jarod McInroy: Here's where I'll fight back a little bit. It's a step in the right direction. I think so. Here's the problem is it's like Nas Reed is a very undervalued player in this league. He does all of the hard stuff. Yeah and t to add on to that, he's a bigger body. Like he he can he can play a lot rougher in the post. He can ⁓ he's insanely athletic. He shoots well enough. Like he's he's amazing. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, fight back. Is it? Okay. He's he's their OG and an obie. That's who he is. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ and and incredibly undervalued. And honestly, there was times where I was surprised he wasn't getting more play than ⁓ Randall and ⁓ I mean they had Gobarin for obvious reasons when when Ben Yam is on the floor, but it's just I don't know. I feel like they they could have somehow put together a different package. And maybe maybe it was the only package they they could have done to to go get him and then Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: Now you're back to the drawing board of like, okay, this is a different piece you have to fill. What I will say to full circle moment. It's easier to grab Lamello and fill in Nasreed's hole with a different player than it is to not have Lamello at all. Now you have Lamello, you have Ant, you have Jaden McDaniels, now you just have to go fill that f that that hole at your your fourth spot. ⁓ which is easier easier to do than going and finding an all star. I don't know. That's that's my take on it. So I I think it's a step in the right direction. Again, they they did have to, you know, take two steps forward, one step back, but I it's better than nothing. I g I like it. I've said it. I'm gonna say it on this podcast a million times. Something is better than nothing. It's better than running back the same team ⁓ that hasn't been working. This West the West is insane right now. We're back. We're so back. Nathan Hawthorne: You know what I Yeah. Yeah. It's what what was really, really tough is once Anthony Edwards went off the floor well first when he was on the floor, he really had to create his own offense. The system I think that they're operating within is, Hey Aunt, here's the ball, go do your thing. And that's not conducive to winning basketball. Fast forward now you've got LaMello ball. So when Ant's not on the court, or even when Ant is on the court, you have somebody who can set up shots for him on a more consistent basis. I can't remember the name of the guard that they had on their squad, ⁓ who they moved on from, but he was a young guard who never panned out. ⁓ my goodness, I'm blanking on his name. Anyways, you just Anthony Edwards now has somebody who can help him out handling the basketball and hopefully get him some easier shots in as great of a highlight reel as he is. All of his buckets seem like tough buckets to get. He's not getting anything easy because of the way that offense was running. So you're right. Certainly a step in the right direction. ⁓ but I see this similar to what the Blazers had in the 20 teens. You had Dame, you had CJ, two high powered guards, and then you had kind of a weak center, and that was the core of your team. And not saying Gobert is the same as Nurkic, but kind of a same setup. And then you're just missing some things in between. Jarod McInroy: Might as well be Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah y and you're just mi Yeah, and you're just missing that that kind of power forward body in between. But you know, I they're again they're infinitely more interesting and those ⁓ those tickets are gonna sell out for sure. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. And my thing is They do have a few other pieces though. Let's let's be honest. So they still got ⁓ what's his name? AO Disunmo, whatever his name is, the the cat from ⁓ from ⁓ Chicago. They had Jaden McDaniels. Like they have like good 3nd wings and good athletes to go on the wings as well. It's it's the depth that's really gonna kill him. They will get Dante DiVincenzo back. I mean, hopefully he comes back healthy. ⁓ so like Nathan Hawthorne: The the swimmer, yeah. Mm-hmm. That's right. I forgot about Di Vincenzo. Jarod McInroy: There there's still pieces that like the their roster isn't horrific. It's ⁓ it's still a team I wouldn't want to play in the playoffs. But that's that's exactly my point with the West right now. Like ⁓ man. Now the Lakers I don't know what their future looks like, but these teams these teams at the top, man, there's a ton of ⁓ The Nuggets seem like they're about to make a few moves that might make them better. ⁓ see. We'll see. That's that's all I got. Well let's let's get into the LeBron thing for a second. Nathan Hawthorne: I mean, way to just way to just make it all about yourself again. LeBron James needs a positive media cycle. He needs a media cycle where every where everybody's clamoring, ⁓ could we get LeBron? Are we in the LeBron sweepstakes? ⁓ my goodness, it'd be so great if da da da. Stop it. You know where you want to go, and you're waiting for the strings to be pulled. And you being you announcing to the Lakers that you're moving on, and then you saying, Jarod McInroy: What's happening? Nathan Hawthorne: But I'm not in a hurry a couple hours later, cause it sounds like things haven't panned out with the Warriors. Because the Wizards have now come out and said, We're not trading Anthony Davis and we're not entertaining any trade hawk any trade talks. That's kind of concerning because that was the whole plan, right? Draymond doesn't re-sign, you trade for Anthony Davis, and then you get LeBron on your squad. You know, boom, bang, bang. It was gonna be perfect. But now it's like, ⁓ you know, we're in no rush. We're gonna see, but we are moving on from the l just he doesn't want all of his news to be out on the same day that everything else is happening. He wants his own he wants LeBron Day. And I'm not sure what day LeBron Day is, but he wants LeBron Day. And I bet it's gonna be like, I don't know, July ninth, and we're gonna see him sign. Jarod McInroy: Well, I don't blame him. Maybe. Maybe. ⁓ here's what I'll say is you're right. He's he's he's here to he's here to be entertaining. He and it's what he does. I can't knock him for it. ⁓ what I will say is I know I d I know. I will say he did he did have the courtesy to the Lakers of saying I Nathan Hawthorne: Every time he leaves, every time he wants to go somewhere else, like Jarod McInroy: I'm not re-signing with you. He he didn't hang that over their heads and he allows them to move on now that free agency hit today, so it's like, hey, go be aggressive, go do what you need to do to move on. ⁓ so he he at least did that. Now in terms of where his next team is, I don't know I don't know where he fits. I think he still is playing high level basketball, but I think one of these teams I would hate to see him go back to Miami. Nathan Hawthorne: LeBron Yep. Jarod McInroy: I I don't I don't understand why he would. I don't understand the fit. I I never thought that that was anything outside of him getting to play with his buddies. Like I don't I don't understand his tie to Miami. I hear ya. Yeah. That's still okay, now they're the sixth best team in the w the East. but ugh. Don't get me started. ⁓ I just ⁓ man. Nathan Hawthorne: LeBron, Bam, and Giannis? Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: You y th I feel like every fan base is thinking about it from the same perspective. He he has a chance he said, I'm gonna take a team friendly deal, the money is not what I care about right now and it shouldn't. He's making hundreds of millions of dollars in endorsements already. He now has to follow through with that. If he goes and takes a big chunk, ⁓ even twenty million away from a team, you're now hurting that team. and it's counterproductive to whatever you were wanting to achieve. Go pick w go pick one of the littler teams. And not littler teams, but like go pick a Minnesota, go pick a Portland, go p don't Don't do this. Even go back to if you want to go back to Cleveland and have your like, you know, final homestead, that's how he finishes out his career. Fine. You go you got Harden, you got Donovan Mitchell, you you got some pieces. You got Evan Mobley. That's a great spot. I would I would much rather see that than ⁓ God, if he goes to like the Knicks or Miami or Boston or somewhere stupid. I that would kill me, man. 'Cause I I've always been a LeBron fan. I've always always supported him. ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: Hear me out. Jarod McInroy: Even when it's been hard. Nathan Hawthorne: Hear me out. And the and the path is the path is clear for this for LeBron James. LeBron James is chasing Michael Jordan. Right? In in every which way, shape, and form. He is chasing Michael Jordan. It doesn't matter how many championships he wins right now. It's always who's the go? Is it LeBron? Is it Jordan? He has the opportunity to go to the Washington Wizards and do what Michael Jordan could never do and win an NBA championship. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. Nathan Hawthorne: With the Washington Wizards. Now, the Wizards, who do they have? His boy, Anthony Davis, who he was clearly upset about moving on from the Lakers. You've re-signed an electric guard, Trey Young, who's gonna feed him the basketball. I think that they're gonna work excellent together. I mean, is the story not starting to write itself? And again, it and not so much about SAR, but here's the deal. It's a big market. It's a big market. It's Washington DC. Jarod McInroy: Stabansa, Sar. But it's the core, it's the team, yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Right. You're not too far from New York. You're not too far from Philly. You can still, it's East Coast. Way easier to get to Turks and Caicos when you're up there than versus being out in LA. Like, I think that he is I I think it could be more real than we realize. LeBron James could be a Washington wizard. Could be a Washington wizard. And again, it's not, it's not just, it's you heard it here first. It's not, it's not just about going to the Wizards to pair up with Anthony Davis. It's Jarod McInroy: I don't hate that. I don't hate it. Hey. You heard it here first, by the way. We're coming back to this. Nathan Hawthorne: This is my chance to do what Michael Jordan never did and make this team a contender well past my prime. Jarod McInroy: I can wholeheartedly tell you that I've been on this just every hour, ev just constantly refreshing, keeping up with all of that's going on. That has never crossed my mind once. So I will say hats off to you, my friend. That would be that would be an electric finish. But they have to bring back those Washington jerseys. That Jordan wore. That would really just Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ they'll bring they'll they'll bring him back and he'll wear twenty three what did LeBr what did what did Jordan even wear when he was didn't he wear like forty or something? Was it twenty did he wear twenty three there? Yeah, they'll and I'm sure it's not retired. If it is, they'll unretire it. 'Cause he wasn't there that long and it's a what have you done for me lately NBA and I'm sorry. He ain't done nothing for me, Michael Jordan. Jarod McInroy: He's I think it was twenty three. Yeah, I'm sure he did. That would be that would be something. listen. We're gonna have a lot more in the coming weeks. Nathan Hawthorne: This is I just got excited. We gotta we gotta clip this out, ASAP. We gotta get this out tonight before other people catch on. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. ⁓ we're gonna have a lot more in the coming weeks. A lot of stuff's gonna be happening in the NBA. This has already been a crazy last, you know, five days. ⁓ I'm excited to see what happens. we'll talk again next week, but anything else you want on the NBA before we we move on? Nathan Hawthorne: Man, LeBron, of course you can go to the Washington Wizards. You can go wherever you want, but don't count out Portland. It's close to Nike headquarters. Great place to raise a family, have a family. You know, you can chill out. Newburgh, you love wine, Newburgh's not too far away. It's comfortable. You can get a you can get a lot of house out here, not nearly the same price as LA. That's all I'm saying. Just give us a shit. Let's not just give us a shot. Jarod McInroy: Give us a shot. Great spot. Just give us a shot. And and in terms of fit, he fits great. Nathan Hawthorne: You gotta give me a shot, Terry. You gotta give us a shot. Anyways, that'll that'll wrap up NBA. Do you wanna talk travelers at all? Travelers championship on the PGA tour? Just briefly. I mean Yeah. Jarod McInroy: You have to. I ain't got much to say to be honest. They it was just another like people going unbelievably low. These turn I I find these tournaments so hard to watch. And I it's I d I don't know. Maybe they need less events. It's nice having golf on every weekend, but it's Go ahead, what you what are people saying? Nathan Hawthorne: People s people were saying Again, they're they're I'm just saying their new schedule's not gonna solve anything, but people argue about ⁓ you know, when the course is set up too hard like the US Open was or the PJ Championship, the players can't separate themselves. It's the same thing. If you make it an easy setup, all these guys can hit a fair way and throw a dart with the wedge and make a putt. It's the it's the same exact thing, just it's how do you want your cake served? You know, thin slice or big slice. It just it these guys are so good. On the PGA tour, but I am very, very happy for Victor Hovland to see him get a win. Scotty Scheffler, unfortunate, another second place. I think that's his fourth on the year, and he's got another third place, hasn't won since January. Just been in a little bit of a funk. But if being in a funk has you number one in the FedEx Cup, I mean, he can still win player of the year. Like say he gets a FedEx Cup playoff win, say he wins the Open Championship. He could all of a sudden be player of the year. And then you start, you start looking at his earlier season a lot differently. But ⁓ yeah, it was a weird Monday finish. I couldn't find it broadcasted anywhere. It just concluded and I saw Scotty miss that putt I was like, ⁓ all right. Okay, guess it's over. Yeah. Jarod McInroy: That sucks. Yeah. Th those that's the one thing about golf is like you're working against the elements and time. Like you only have so much time in the day. It's such a unique position. Like nobody's coming I d now to say the players last year, when it was Rory and ⁓ JJ Spawn went into the playoff, I did tune into that. This one I n I didn't care where it was broadcast at I didn't care. It was one of those things like I'll just see who wins and call it a day. But yeah, dude, Scotty, that that one kinda hurt. That one was like, that stinks. But he's fine. He doesn't care. He's won so many times now that like he can just keep doing this and ⁓ he he'll get back to his form, but I I hope it's sooner than later. Maybe maybe I I don't know what it is, but it just seems like he needs to lock back in and start caring more again. Nathan Hawthorne: Stuff. Stuff. Jarod McInroy: I don't know what it is, maybe someone hurts his ego. ⁓ I whatever it is, we need to get see the fire under his belt a little bit. And we need to get get him back to to really going out there firing on all cylinders and fighting for a tournament instead of just trying to play good enough golf. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Yeah, I think Yeah, I I just I still don't think he's having fun with it right now. And I think you start bringing in, you know, the fact that he hasn't won with that his game's not as sharp and he's not having a good time, it's gonna be brutal for him. But, you know, I I I hope he I hope he kicks it up. It's always fun when he's playing well. Jarod McInroy: No. Yeah. Alright. Do you wanna do your NFL segment first or me? 'Cause I can go first. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Yeah yeah yeah. Actually, you know what? ⁓ let's let's hear what you got for me for the NFL. You guys, it is such a tough period for NFL football right now. This is really the only dead period of the year, so we're doing our best to bring you some exciting bits of NFL with these new segments. So Jared, what do got for us? Jarod McInroy: I got a fun one today. This one's this one's a little out of the box. ⁓ but the whole point of this was I want to ⁓ just compare a few people in a few different scenarios and it's just gonna lay an overall zoomed out picture of how you think of these people, okay? So here's the segment. Let me take a drink of water really quick. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. Water up. Jarod McInroy: We're gonna be doing a little bit of this or that and it's just gonna be random NFL scenarios. That's the prompt. You'll start to pick up on it. I'm gonna give you two NFL scenarios and you just tell me this or that. It's as simple. Nathan Hawthorne: Noca? Eso esos. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. Alright. Would you rather be the Chargers with Justin Jefferson or the Ravens with Jamar Chase? Nathan Hawthorne: with Justin Jefferson, for sure. Yeah. Jarod McInroy: That seems like a really easy answer. I'm talking full roster, you're starting the season this year, going into it, you're saying you'd rather be the Chargers with Justin Jefferson. Over give me an explanation as to why. Nathan Hawthorne: Yep. It is. Yeah. I think the Chargers have needed a true receiving option. I think the Rav the Ravens have proven that no matter who their wide receiver one is, Lamar is only going to throw the ball so many times before he decides to run, which is going to limit how many targets you get. Justin Herbert is going to sling the rock in addition to scrambling. And I think that Justin Jefferson playing in a system where he is truly the wide receiver one option, and you would have somebody like Ladd McConkey right there with him. And then you've got Jamar ⁓ Jamar Chase. And then he's got Zay Flowers in there too. You just drafted Elijah Surratt. Like if I'm thinking about the full situation, and typically been a heavier run game team. ⁓ that's been typical of the Ravens. Maybe it changes with Declan Doyle. I don't know. But I feel better with Herbert and Justin Jefferson than I do with Lamar and Justin than ⁓ Lamar and Jamar Chase. Lamar and Jamar. Lamar Lamar Jamar. Lamar, Jamar, Jamar Lamar. Jamar Lamar. Lamar actually, you know what? Jarod McInroy: In a division in a division with the chiefs. Nathan Hawthorne: Lamar I say it, the less I like it. What was that? The Drake thing with Jamar DeRozan? Damar I say it the less I like it. Lamar Jamar. No, it's the Key and Peelskit. ⁓ Yeah. Jarvison Jamar, Lamar, Lamar. Jarod McInroy: Mm. Yeah. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. Yeah. Yep. here's what I'll say. You also have to be in a division with the Chiefs and the Broncos. Does that does that separate you? you go and get a piece like Jamar or Justin Jefferson rather? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, so you got you Yeah. Well yeah. Yeah, absolutely. You gotta go up against Pat yeah. Jarod McInroy: Mart. Hey. No, I I'm not and I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just simply saying like I mean the Ravens, you go and add a we talked about it, it's one A, one B. You go and add Jamar Chase and you only have to play against the Steelers, you only have to play against the Browns, the Bengals. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. You know what? You know, honestly the the offensive potential is very high. But if you ask me, I'm thinking of this i if if I'm a coach, not from what's the rest of the league look like, but from my team. Yeah, I'm confident in it. Yeah. Jarod McInroy: All right. So that's the answer. All right. Chargers with Justin Jefferson. Okay. Here's my next scenario for ya. Would you rather be the Vikings with Josh Allen or the Lions with Joe Burrow? Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ that's a really good one. Wow. Drew Petzig is growing on me. Okay, and his offensive system. And he's now the offensive coordinator for the Lions. And what he did with Jacoby Brissett last year was nothing short of incredible. So I would like that matchup with Drew Bet Drew Petsig and Joe Burrow. But on the other side, you got Josh Allen with Justin Jefferson. And Jordan Addison and Juwan Jennings. And you got KOC, one of the strong offensive TJ Hawkinson. But yeah, but you got Aiden Hutchinson, you got Amon Ross St. Brown, ⁓ you've got Jameson Williams, you've got Jameer Gibbs, Isaiah Pacheco, like that Lions team. I didn't I didn't meet I didn't meet. Wow, that's a really tough one. Jarod McInroy: TJ Hawkinson coming back too. I know. Nathan Hawthorne: I think I Mm, I think I can make it I can make a case for both. ⁓ but I think I'm gonna go the Lions with Joe Burrow. And I think that Lions with Joe Burrow and the and the sole reason is Josh Allen, I think, just might turn the ball over once you know what? No, I'm t I'm what am I talking about? Josh Allen with the Vikings. Josh Allen with Josh Allen with the Vikings final answer. Damn, that's a good one. You asked you asked Chat PT for that one? Jarod McInroy: All right. Yeah, that's a lot of a lot of back and forth there. If you haven't no, no, no. I've I came up with this all today and I'll tell you what, my reason being is I wanted to find two ⁓ two comparisons with like shortcomings that would really like equal each other, ⁓ and find two similar players to fill those holes. ⁓ so, you know, if either of those teams had an elite quarterback like that, man. Nathan Hawthorne: Yes, Chat GPT for that? That's a really good one. Wait, Kyler Murray's not elite? He's about to be the league MVP dog. You heard it here first on KYP, episode fourteen. Jarod McInroy: Stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop. Alright, next one. Would you rather be the Chiefs with the current Broncos defense and scheme or the Bears with the Patriots defense and scheme? Nathan Hawthorne: I feel like that's a pretty obvious one. I'd rather be the Chiefs for sure. You give Mahomes a you give Mahomes a generational defense. He's only he's only had a top ten defense for one of his Super Bowl runs. I'm sorry, now two of his Super Bowl runs. You just get Mahomes a moderately okay defense and they're gonna be just fine. And again, ⁓ we've talked i at length about how much we love the Chicago Bears this year, but that Patriots defense I also think benefited last year from playing backups. Jarod McInroy: Really? That's that easy? Nathan Hawthorne: rookies and just low quality quarterbacks. I think that this Patriots team and we even talked about this is gonna have a pretty decent regression. But yeah, pretty clearly Chiefs with that Broncos defense would be vicious. Jarod McInroy: I don't disagree with you. I think it's closer than you're making it seem. I think that Patriots defense is really good and I think the issues that they're gonna have in their regression is mostly because of ⁓ what's going on with leadership at the moment, but I don't know. I think that's the right answer though. I agree. I agree. Chiefs of Broncos defense would be that that would be an unstoppable team. ⁓ okay. Here we go. This one is more of a ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: We'll find out. Unbelievable. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ two teams with regressions at a position, just to see how you view them. Would you rather be the Seahawks with CJ Stroud at quarterback or the Rams with Bryce Young at quarterback? Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. I did not know where you were going when you said Rams. Incredible defenses, quarterbacks that kind of make you shake your head sometimes, but they're pretty good. Matt Stafford and Bryce Young are both kind of the same, like they just let the ball fly. Sam Darnold, CJ Stroud, kind of comp, stand in the pocket, sometimes hold on to it when they shouldn't, or wow. These are elite questions, by the way. Like and subscribe right now ⁓ for more of this content. ⁓ my goodness. Jarod McInroy: Thank you. Dude, I and this isn't even the best one yet. I I think my final one is the best one. Nathan Hawthorne: I'm gonna say I'm gonna say I'm gonna say Rams. Why? Simply because I'd rather live in Los Angeles than I would rather live in Seattle. And I think that Bryce Young with Puka Nakua and Sean McVeigh is more exciting than CJ Stroud with an offensive system where I'm not sure how he's gonna adapt. I'm just I just still have question marks about CJ Stroud, whereas Bryce Young, I know exactly what I'm gonna get. So if I get him with Sean McVeigh. I'm I'm feeling pretty excited. Jarod McInroy: Alright. Yeah, it's tough also without Clink Kubiak. I feel like that makes the conversation better because there's still that question mark in Seattle, but ⁓ Alright. Alright, so we're going Bryce Young with the Rams. ⁓ this one's a little more of a throwback. I only got two more by the way. ⁓ forty niners. Current forty niners, but you get a add a prime Jerry Rice or the Patriots add a prime Randy Moss. Nathan Hawthorne: Exactly. Yeah. Jarod McInroy: Greg Maesling and a Randy Moss. Or you got a noodle arm purdy throwing to Jerry Rice. Nathan Hawthorne: That's a tough one. Tell you what, not only not only does not only does Jerry Rice get open, and not only has Purdy been compared to Steve Young with some of the scrambling Jarod McInroy: Who's doing that comparison? ⁓ c yeah, I bet. Nathan Hawthorne: Niner's Twitter. I lived in the Bay. I live I lived in the Bay Area. I lived in the Bay Area for about a year and a half. So very heavy bias on. No, I tell I I tell you what right now, ⁓ I like I like the idea of Randy Moss going back to the Patriots in his prime with Drake Mae. Jarod McInroy: Huh that's the only social media account doing that. Nathan Hawthorne: But you're telling me Jerry Rice with an offense that's gonna scheme him open and he gets open. Ooh, it is and I think I know what you would say. I just have such a sour taste in my mouth with Drake May. And I got a sour taste in my mouth with Brock Purdy too. Wow. I don't like this. Can I just sit this one out? Okay can I go can I go back to can I go back to Joe Burrow here? No, I I think I think the reasonable answer here is without overthinking it without overthinking it, which I've already done, it's Jarod McInroy: Yeah. You can s yeah, you can take a knee. Take a knee. Nathan Hawthorne: It's gotta be Drake May and Randy Moss. It's gotta be. It's that's the answer. Yeah. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, that's the answer. That's what I was hoping for. All right, here's the final one. Now this is the best one I think of of the list. And we we were just talking about both of these two guys. Would you rather be the Eagles? Eagles roster. Everything about the Eagles the same, but you have Kyle Shanahan as your coach or Pittsburgh roster, but you have Sean McVeigh as your coach. Now Pittsburgh th they have a lot of guys who've already played for Sean McVeigh, Eagles, they got Saquon, they got a lot a very similar structure. Okay. Nathan Hawthorne: I'm going with the Eagles on that one. I'm going with the Eagles on that one. We've Kyle Shanahan can deal with a quarterback who's limited throwing the football. We've seen Sean McVeigh, just with Jared Goff, just lose his cool and be like, this guy can't do can't operate my system. And I see Aaron Rodgers and I see Sean McVeigh butting heads more than I see them collaborating on an offense that's going to be successful. Is Jarod McInroy: Look what he's doing with o with an old Matt Stafford. Nathan Hawthorne: And old Matt Saffr Matt Safford's one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Jarod McInroy: And what is Aaron Rodgers to you, sir? Nathan Hawthorne: Also one of the best quarterbacks of all time. But when we're talking about yeah, great, great point, by the way. No. But the the aging the aging that the two have done, right? Aaron Rodgers hasn't had a really quality good year in probably six years now, right? Jarod McInroy: Excuse me? He also hasn't played for Sean McVeigh. Nathan Hawthorne: Right. And but he's played for LaFleur, who's a Shanahan guy. Like he's he's but he's Aaron Rodgers just still wants to Aaron Rodgers just wants to do things his way. He's not a great collaborator. Sean McVeigh is a collaborator at heart. I don't think that that works. Jarod McInroy: Floor is turned. This is a Walmart. Sean McVeigh. Okay. I hear ya. I bro, the Eagles coached by Kyle Shanahan would be insane. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ my gosh. Their their run game would be vicious. Like Saquon Barkley w ⁓ would again be one of the best rushers in football and he's already done it several times. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. We'd see him do things with Jalen Hurts that we haven't seen him d do yet also. Like that would be electric, bro. Nathan Hawthorne: And can you imagine and can you imagine how AJ how happy AJ Brown would have been if he you got Shanahan just scheming him open? Like yeah, have you ever heard of Hul Julio Jones when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Falcons? So yeah, definitely Shanahan. I mean he's gonna bottle it in the NFC championship, but ⁓ you know, I'm still gonna go with Shanahan. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ so happy he would have stayed. Yep, part of him. Good player. Alright, that's it. That's that's my this or that. What what do we think about that one, huh? Fun one? Nathan Hawthorne: I really like that. And part of it is the situations that you crafted, I think, were chef's kiss. That was awesome. Like I had a lot of fun. And if you had fun, make sure to like and subscribe. It'd be great to have your support if you're listening right now. Thank you. We're gonna throw in a few more of those throughout the throughout the show. You know, a few more a few more calls to action. ⁓ we love doing this and we love you guys. Jarod McInroy: Thank you. Appreciate it. Appreciate it. Please. Yeah. Go like, go comment, subscribe. Nathan Hawthorne: We're gonna hop on a current trend here. And this has gone across multiple different sports, heavier into NFL, but this is called the don't speak segment. And I want you to not speak until you hear a player that is better than the previous player named. Okay? We're gonna do this with current NFL running backs as the NFL starts to trend back to heavy run game, multiple tight end sets, extra guard in the game. What? Jarod McInroy: Question. Nathan Hawthorne: What could you have to ask me while I'm going through my whole like I was locked in and fucking po excuse my like I was locked in, man. What do you want? Jarod McInroy: So Okay. Yeah. So you're you got a player, you're gonna I don't talk until I see the player that's better than them, and then they become the new like king of the hill essentially. Understood. Got it. Nathan Hawthorne: Then then they become the new. Yes. Yes. And it's it's a much quicker segment than King of the Hill. There's not a lot of explanation. Like you really just don't talk at all. Don't say a thing. All right. NFL current NFL running backs. Okay, so we're gonna start with Derrick Henry on the board. Derrick Henry is on the board right now. Followed by Saquon Barkley. Jarod McInroy: Not say nothing. You got it. Yeah. Saquon Barkley's better than Derek Henry. Jesus, we're starting really good. Nathan Hawthorne: Whoop. James Cook. Josh Jacobs. Christian McCaffrey. Christian McCaffrey. B. John Robinson. B. John Robinson. Okay. Jameer Gibbs. Kyron Williams. Jonathan Taylor. Okay, so Saquon Barkley Saquon over Christian McCaffrey in B. John Robinson right now. Jarod McInroy: Saquon Barkley's the best running back in the NFL. Saquon Barkley is the best running back in the NFL. I stand ten toes on that. I I think it's and you can do whatever you want with your like k they're they're the one A, one B, him and Christian McCaffrey that people want to say. I think it's I think it's one and two. I think Saquon Barkley is is better than everybody else in the league. I get it. I understand the Bichon arguments. I think there is one, two, three, and four, and then I think Nathan Hawthorne: I'm not disagreeing with you. I just Okay. Wow. Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: There's a little jump to Gibbs, and then I think there's a gigantic jump to everybody else. So if I'm going top five, I'm going it's it's Saquon one, Christian McCaffrey two, it's Bijan three, Derek Henry four, small jump down to Jameer and then a gigantic leap to everybody else. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. You think a gap between Derrick Henry and Jameer Gibbs? Jarod McInroy: Small jump. Small jump. It's ups it's it's like not questionable. I d I I don't think you can make Nathan Hawthorne: Like prime Derek, like prime Derrick Henry. Like this is current NFL running back. Not like prime Derrick Henry. Jarod McInroy: Bro, yes. Derrick Henry is still doing that. What what are we talking about here? Am I missing something? Nathan Hawthorne: So if you had to start a team right now, you would choose Derrick Henry? Well, no, not over the next five years. I'm just saying. Jarod McInroy: Okay, that's different. If we're talking about over the next five years, if I have to start a team for one season, I'm taking Derek Henry, yes. Actually no, I like to my my Madden offense, I like to run more of a speed, ⁓ so it really depends on you know, I I run things quick. ⁓ I'm no huddle guy. Jameer would fit great. Nathan Hawthorne: Over Jameer Gibbs. Okay. Yeah, I really I really I liked Saquon Barkley having him in there early for you. And then I really thought that five, six, seven, McCaffrey, Bijan Jameer was gonna get you in like a but you were just dead silent. Wow. Jarod McInroy: No, I I am very firm on my stance that Saquon Barkley is the best running back in the NFL. Nathan Hawthorne: Wow. You know who I wanted to put in there but I knew it wasn't gonna have a chance was Kyron Williams. I thought about starting there and kinda going to like a Bucky Irving, but Jarod McInroy: Yeah, you give me too many good names to start. That's the problem. You gotta you gotta build up. Nathan Hawthorne: Well the thing is well no, the thing is is I wanted you to have a good name to start to stand on and then I hit you with that boom boom boom mid round to Jarod McInroy: Yeah, that's fair. If Saquon didn't come till later, I pr I probably would have taken you up on like a Jameer or or Christian McCaffrey or someone after the the Derrick Henry name. But no, I just I'm telling you man Nathan Hawthorne: Well, right. 'Cause we we had Saquon we had Derrick Henry, we went to Saquon, we established that James Cook and Josh Jacobs, while great, aren't quite that tier. And then it was like, Okay, here's the next best running backs in the NFL. All right. I don't I don't hate it. I love Saquon Barkley. I've got hold on, let me see if it I've got a twenty eighteen playoff Saquon Barkley minted degree nine card right here. So you know, I'm I I I yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So stuff right there. Jarod McInroy: Wow, in the Giants uniform. Loving it. Big ups. ⁓ here I just my thing is there are very few people that you get a watch with your eyes that you're like, Wow, these guys are doing things regardless of the stats and the stats he has the stats to back it up. But when you watch Patrick Mahomes play football, he does things that you're like, he is a level above everybody else. And that is Saquon. He is a level above everybody else. He does all of the average, normal things that are expected of him so much better. And then some. Then he has the highlight plays, the jumping over people backwards, the he can catch, he can run, he can run route, he can do whatever you need him to do. ⁓ he's the best running back in the year. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. All right. And I've got one more for you here, and I want to go with generational wide receivers. Okay, so this is wide receivers who are legendary in the sport. And we're gonna see how this lands. Okay. Number one, we're gonna start on the board with a current generational talent in Jamar Chase. Okay. And we're gonna go to Tyreek Hill. Jarod McInroy: Donzo. Ooh. Okay. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. Antonio Brown. Think about this. All prime. All prime. Antonio Brown. Okay. Terrell Owens. Jarod McInroy: I'm gonna stop you there. Yeah, Antonio Brown. Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Marvin Harrison. Larry Fitzgerald Jarod McInroy: Larry Fitzgerald, yeah. This the longevity, the yeah. Give me Larry. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Justin Jefferson. Jarod McInroy: Yikes. I have to take Justin Jefferson. ⁓ if we're talking skill like peak for peak, give me Jettus right now. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. Okay. Okay. Randy Moss. Okay. Okay. Julio Jones. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, Brandy Moss. Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Last name, and I feel like this is gonna be the one Calvin Johnson. Jarod McInroy: Mm. I'm not taking Calvin over Randy Moss. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. So we've got Randy Moss is the generational wide receiver. Jarod McInroy: From the list you gave me. I and I can tell you if you would have brought any name that wasn't Jerry Rice, I wouldn't have even heard you out. I think Randy Moss is the solidified number two receiver. Nathan Hawthorne: You know, I wanted to leave out both Randy and Calvin, but I thought both of them juxtapose juxtap well, I'm not even gonna try and use the word. No reason. Juxta juxtaposed to Jamar Chase and Justin J some of that current new juice. That was interesting. Jarod McInroy: Jux opposed. No, it was perfect. I thought about the Calvin Johnson one for a minute. Again, talking about ⁓ the eye test, like the dude did it all. He was an animal, but I think that Randy Moss was just that much better. Like he's as he's one of the fastest on field in pads people we have ever seen. He's he catches everything he yeah. ⁓ my god. Nathan Hawthorne: You know, I I love Antonio Brown and I he's really up there for me in terms of wide receivers. Now, did he crash out? Absolutely. But I'm I'm putting him like I'm probably taking Antonio Brown over both Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson. Yeah. And his he's got that Odell Beckham Jr. sort of and I don't think OBJ's up there with those guys. But Jarod McInroy: Yeah, forget that. We're talking about the football player Antonio Brown. Peak for peak, like pretty much. Nathan Hawthorne: That sort of ability to adjust to the football to give yourself an advantage while the ball is in the air. A lot of the guys just see ball, track ball, catch ball, but there's a nuance to the way he would come under the football and time his routes and time his bursts and his speed. It was just so good.
