- 0:01Speaker 1: Now, Ron Verb on NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 0:06Speaker 2: And Heidi Ho. And it's nice to talk to you again.
- 0:11Speaker 2: 3.07 in the afternoon. NewsRadio 570 WKBN and Ron Verb.
- 0:14Speaker 2: And it's 84 degrees after a week of rest and relaxation.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'll talk more about that later. But I got to
- 0:23Speaker 2: tell you. I just got to tell you. And it
- 0:26Speaker 2: depends where you are and what you've experienced. whether or
- 0:31Speaker 2: not this hits home with you or not. I mean,
- 0:34Speaker 2: that's the reality that I'm going to tell you right now.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It depends where you are and if this hits home
- 0:42Speaker 2: with you. So in our neck of the woods here,
- 0:45Speaker 2: we had a major storm yesterday. Now, I live in Austintown,
- 0:52Speaker 2: and I'm telling you, I can't tell you the exact time,
- 0:57Speaker 2: what 3, 4 o'clock, I can't even tell you exactly
- 0:59Speaker 2: when it happened. So I'm at Verb Manor and you
- 1:06Speaker 2: hear the tornado sirens going off. So you hear the,
- 1:12Speaker 2: which I think is the most effective way to warn
- 1:14Speaker 2: people of any type of weather thing. I think that
- 1:17Speaker 2: that is just the single best entity that you can
- 1:20Speaker 2: have to warn people because they're loud. You can hear them.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So you hear the tornado sirens going off and it's
- 1:27Speaker 2: not Saturday at noon when they test them. Then they
- 1:31Speaker 2: go off again. So then you say, okay, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'm looking, nothing's happening. It's just kind of dark over here.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Nothing's happening. And then you hear, well, a tornado watch
- 1:42Speaker 2: is canceled or tornado warning. I forget which one it was.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Tornado warning is canceled. And the next thing you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: at Verb Manor, I mean, the winds are like crazy.
- 2:00Speaker 2: The winds are just absolutely unbelievable at Verb Manor. It's
- 2:07Speaker 2: just incredible. And the rain is coming down so hard,
- 2:10Speaker 2: so heavy. It is... You can't see. You can't see
- 2:16Speaker 2: as you're looking out these large front windows. You can't
- 2:19Speaker 2: really see. It's coming down that hard, that fast, and
- 2:25Speaker 2: that much wind.
- 2:28Speaker 3: So..
- 2:29Speaker 2: As I look out on the street in which we live,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I can see that the storm sewers aren't keeping up
- 2:36Speaker 2: with the amount of rain that's coming down. So you
- 2:38Speaker 2: just see the water going over the streets and coming
- 2:42Speaker 2: into the yards. And you can just see it's just
- 2:48Speaker 2: getting deeper and deeper. And it's going on and on.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I mean, this continues to go on. And everything seems
- 2:57Speaker 2: okay at the time. And then you lose power. Then
- 3:02Speaker 2: we lose power. Okay. So now you say, okay, power
- 3:09Speaker 2: is out. I got a sump pump downstairs. So you
- 3:15Speaker 2: wait for the storm to pass. And what would you
- 3:17Speaker 2: guys say? Those of you that were in it, maybe
- 3:19Speaker 2: an hour. So you wait for the storm to pass
- 3:23Speaker 2: as far as the worst of it. And, uh, My
- 3:28Speaker 2: son gets the generator out and rolls it over. There's
- 3:32Speaker 2: a plug outside the house. You plug it in, rolls
- 3:34Speaker 2: it over, starts it up. And you can, there's a
- 3:42Speaker 2: transfer switch, but you can only do like eight circuits
- 3:44Speaker 2: on this thing. So the most important one being your
- 3:48Speaker 2: sump pump, incidentally. So you get the sump pump running
- 3:53Speaker 2: so your basement doesn't flood. Most important one of all.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So you get that taken care of, and you're not
- 4:02Speaker 2: concerned about that. So then we go just a little
- 4:08Speaker 2: ways down the street to my son's house, which is
- 4:14Speaker 2: right off 46. And you can tell that house took
- 4:19Speaker 2: a good hit, too. I mean, there's tree limbs down everywhere,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and there's no power there. But by the time we
- 4:31Speaker 2: got from Verb Manor over to this house, it's about
- 4:42Speaker 2: in portions of the basement, maybe an inch of water.
- 4:47Speaker 2: And so he gets out his generator and plugs in
- 4:55Speaker 2: his sump pump right away, which Pretty effectively got rid
- 4:59Speaker 2: of it in pretty decent fashion without damaging the... Most
- 5:05Speaker 2: important part is you don't want too much water. It
- 5:07Speaker 2: can damage your furnace and wash your dryers, whatever appliances
- 5:11Speaker 2: you might have in your basement dehumidifier. So you don't
- 5:15Speaker 2: want too much water there because if it gets too high,
- 5:17Speaker 2: it just can be a nightmare for those appliances. And luckily,
- 5:23Speaker 2: that wasn't the case.
- 5:25Speaker 4: But..
- 5:27Speaker 2: This giant tree branch from a neighbor's tree comes down
- 5:30Speaker 2: and busts a hole in his pole barn roof. And
- 5:36Speaker 2: that was during the major storm. And just all kinds
- 5:38Speaker 2: of water is coming in and hitting the insulation. And
- 5:44Speaker 2: it's finished inside and all that kind of stuff. So
- 5:47Speaker 2: it took a little bit of a hit there. And
- 5:52Speaker 2: not that big a hole, but a big enough hole
- 5:54Speaker 2: to let enough water in. just from a branch, pretty
- 5:58Speaker 2: substantial branch, blowing off of this tree. And so we
- 6:03Speaker 2: spent the rest of the day, him with a chainsaw
- 6:07Speaker 2: and me putting it in a dump trailer, his dump
- 6:10Speaker 2: trailer and that kind of stuff, just cleaning up the mess,
- 6:12Speaker 2: just cleaning up the mess until it got dark. So
- 6:17Speaker 2: then his house just got the power back. He just
- 6:22Speaker 2: got his power back about an hour ago. And over
- 6:28Speaker 2: at Verb Manor, I get a thing. You get those
- 6:30Speaker 2: text alerts from Ohio Edison. They said, your power should
- 6:33Speaker 2: be restored by tomorrow at 11 o'clock. I said, are
- 6:38Speaker 2: you kidding me? Are you serious? By tomorrow at 11 o'clock.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And hopefully, it'll be sooner than that. But we shall see.
- 6:48Speaker 2: We shall see. So then, if you go down anywhere,
- 6:52Speaker 2: it depends on all of you where you are, like
- 6:55Speaker 2: Park Harver, Millinger Road. I mean, there's so much damage
- 7:02Speaker 2: all over. And I mean absolutely all over this community.
- 7:08Speaker 2: In Canfield, Boardman, Austintown. And I mean substantial damage all over. Now,
- 7:18Speaker 2: I don't know what their conclusion will be, but when
- 7:21Speaker 2: I look at the trees and I see halfway up
- 7:24Speaker 2: they're just twisted and snapped off. Isn't that the sign
- 7:27Speaker 2: of a tornado or a microburst? I guess it depends
- 7:32Speaker 2: how you define it. But it was really quite an experience.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And getting to the radio station today was an absolute nightmare.
- 7:50Speaker 2: To get from Austintown to the radio station. Here's the rub,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and this is what got me. I just... I'll just
- 7:57Speaker 2: tell you this. I consider him a dear friend. He
- 8:00Speaker 2: is a first-class human being and a great attorney, attorney
- 8:04Speaker 2: Steve Goski, who I consider a good person and a
- 8:07Speaker 2: good friend. I've known him for many, many, many years.
- 8:11Speaker 2: He's retired now, but he was a wonderful, great attorney.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And he met me here at the studios today, and
- 8:20Speaker 2: I didn't get here until— it took me an hour to
- 8:23Speaker 2: get here. I mean, I kept going this way, road closed,
- 8:27Speaker 2: this way, road closed. This way, the road was open,
- 8:30Speaker 2: but the cars were so backed up, it took forever
- 8:34Speaker 2: to get to the radio station. So when I got here,
- 8:37Speaker 2: I asked Goski, I said, because Goski lives in Canfield,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I says, how did you get here so quick? And
- 8:43Speaker 2: he says, well, I just went down 46 out to
- 8:45Speaker 2: Western Reserve Road, came down Western Reserve Road, and there
- 8:48Speaker 2: weren't any delays. And I said, Steve, you could have
- 8:52Speaker 2: called me. You could have let me know. It was
- 8:55Speaker 2: smooth sailing that way. You know what I mean? So
- 8:59Speaker 2: I didn't think of it that way. But any way
- 9:01Speaker 2: that I tried to get here was a nightmare. The
- 9:06Speaker 2: amount of damage is incredible. Now, this reminds me when
- 9:12Speaker 2: I started at this radio station, the tornado, what was it,
- 9:17Speaker 2: in 84, 85 when I was there? on the air
- 9:20Speaker 2: at that particular time when that happened. I remember sitting
- 9:23Speaker 2: in Boardman at our studios at that time on Sunset Boulevard,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and we really didn't have any damage, but I started
- 9:29Speaker 2: getting all these calls when this was going on, live
- 9:33Speaker 2: on the air, before the National Weather Service issued any
- 9:36Speaker 2: warnings at all from people saying, hey, I see this,
- 9:41Speaker 2: I see that, live on the air. And those that
- 9:45Speaker 2: are old enough to remember, we were on for days
- 9:46Speaker 2: after that. I mean, it was a, it was a
- 9:51Speaker 2: time when we had a bigger staff and, more hours
- 9:54Speaker 2: of local programming to serve the community. But it's just
- 10:02Speaker 2: incredible that you would sit in Boardman at that time
- 10:07Speaker 2: and say, everything seems calm here, but not that far away.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It was a disaster. And for many of you, depending
- 10:14Speaker 2: where you are, you could say the same thing. Everything,
- 10:16Speaker 2: you know, other than some rain or a little bit
- 10:18Speaker 2: of wind, you're okay. But there's a lot of areas
- 10:20Speaker 2: that are just, it's brutal. Absolutely brutal. The amount of
- 10:25Speaker 2: trees down, power poles down, lack of electrical service. It
- 10:31Speaker 2: is unbelievable what has happened to sections of this community.
- 10:39Speaker 2: What's happened to sections of this community. And, well, comments
- 10:45Speaker 2: from you, feel free to, there's so much to talk about.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I mean, you experienced it. I mean, some of you
- 10:52Speaker 2: obviously didn't affect you as bad as it did at
- 10:56Speaker 2: Verb Manor or at some of the folks in Boardman,
- 11:00Speaker 2: some of the folks in Canfield, and some of the
- 11:04Speaker 2: other areas. I mean, it was absolutely brutal. Just absolutely brutal.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So there you have it. I hope you don't have
- 11:14Speaker 2: water in your basements. Can you imagine? Oh, I mean,
- 11:19Speaker 2: the storm's going on. Your power goes out. You don't
- 11:21Speaker 2: have a generator if you don't. And you're just watching
- 11:23Speaker 2: the water go up higher and higher in your basement.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You just had that sick feeling in your stomach. Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I know. You know, I thought to myself, well, I'm
- 11:37Speaker 2: glad we have generators. We don't have the ones that
- 11:40Speaker 2: are like Mike Craig sells. Wish I did. Might give
- 11:44Speaker 2: it some consideration. But... Just a hell of an experience.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Ron, I just wanted to tell you, we had a
- 11:55Speaker 5: bad one here. It was toward Miamisburg, but it was
- 12:00Speaker 5: all wind and rain is what we had, but not
- 12:03Speaker 5: too bad.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Thank you, Dick, from Dayton. It was a disaster here.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Thank you, my friend. Good to hear your voice. Appreciate
- 12:10Speaker 2: your time.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Have a good day.
- 12:11Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Ronald.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Ted the Conservative. Hello, Ted.
- 12:17Speaker 3: How are you?
- 12:17Speaker 4: Welcome back.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Thank you. My dreams were my ticket out, as they
- 12:21Speaker 2: used to say. Welcome back, Connor.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sorry to hear of all the problems you
- 12:26Speaker 4: had over there. We were lucky down here. Everything stayed
- 12:29Speaker 4: north of us.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Boy, you were. I'm telling you, Ted, I've never... Well...
- 12:34Speaker 2: I can't remember. There's one other time our street flooded
- 12:37Speaker 2: like that. But I can't remember the rain coming down
- 12:41Speaker 2: so heavy, so strong, and the winds like that. And
- 12:45Speaker 2: the whole time you're thinking about, is your roof going to–
- 12:48Speaker 2: your shingles going to stay on and all that kind
- 12:51Speaker 2: of stuff. And they did at Verb Manor. But– I mean,
- 12:56Speaker 2: it's just– it was a hell of an event. And
- 12:59Speaker 2: there's so many areas that are just really huge damages,
- 13:03Speaker 2: trees on houses, trees on cars, roads closed. Not just
- 13:07Speaker 2: trees down and wires down, but actually the telephone poles–
- 13:13Speaker 2: over as well, you know, drop leaning in this kind
- 13:16Speaker 2: of stuff. These guys, these guys, a tip of the
- 13:18Speaker 2: hat to these guys from Ohio Edison, all alignment that
- 13:21Speaker 2: are out there. And, and what's, and what you guys do.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I know you get paid a lot and all that
- 13:26Speaker 2: kind of stuff. You earn it. You absolutely earn it, man.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And thank God for it.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Mother nature is a force not to reckon with.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 13:35Speaker 4: I've been in some situations, not like yesterday with a tornado,
- 13:39Speaker 4: but with flooding situations. And, And there's nothing more fearful
- 13:44Speaker 4: watching an influx of water come in, knowing that you
- 13:47Speaker 4: can't stop it. You don't know when it's going to stop.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Or the fear of being, you know, like you said,
- 13:54Speaker 4: the wind and visibility and a tornado. And I've just
- 13:58Speaker 4: seen pictures. I know my sister had some damage. I
- 14:01Speaker 4: can tell you that down here, it seems like it
- 14:04Speaker 4: was centrally located in the Austin town. Typical new areas
- 14:08Speaker 4: are canceled. Then it bounced through Boardman. Maybe there was
- 14:11Speaker 4: a tornado, and it did bounce. But down here, at
- 14:15Speaker 4: the same time those things were happening up there, we
- 14:18Speaker 4: did get some really strong wind and sheets of rain
- 14:21Speaker 4: coming down sideways. So this thing had to be pretty big,
- 14:25Speaker 4: that hit, you know. But listen, I'm calling to welcome
- 14:28Speaker 4: you back. I think you were missed by many. There
- 14:33Speaker 4: was a void in all of our lives from 3
- 14:35Speaker 4: to 7 or 3 to 6 or 3 to 5,
- 14:36Speaker 4: whatever day of the week it is. And I had
- 14:40Speaker 4: people messaging me various formats. Where's Ron Verbe? I told him,
- 14:47Speaker 4: I don't know. Maybe he's on vacation. I'm sure he's
- 14:50Speaker 4: entitled to some time off, right?
- 14:51Speaker 2: I think you knew where I happened to be. You
- 14:54Speaker 2: were playing dumb. Yes.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Well, it's not my business to share your business, right?
- 15:01Speaker 2: No, but that would be perfectly fine. Yeah. Yes. I
- 15:05Speaker 2: was originally only going to take off. Stand by, Ted.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I'll come back with Ted the Conservative. Hang on. It's
- 15:10Speaker 2: Ted the Conservative. He survived the big storm. I hope
- 15:14Speaker 2: all is well with you. I hope your basement is dry.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Take some more of your calls. Talk to Ted more
- 15:19Speaker 2: after this. WKBN.
- 15:21Speaker 4: All right.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Back to it. News Radio 570. WKBN. So let me
- 15:23Speaker 2: get back. Let me just back. And Ted asked me
- 15:26Speaker 2: about the situation as far as doubling the owner occupancy.
- 15:32Speaker 2: From 2.5% to 5%. As I said, it's about time.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I hate followers. I prefer leaders. And though I think
- 15:42Speaker 2: the commissioners finally did the right thing, they were at
- 15:46Speaker 2: the end of the parade, not at the beginning of
- 15:48Speaker 2: the parade. And that's what's disturbing to me. Was it
- 15:52Speaker 2: peer pressure? Or was it simply that they knew the
- 15:55Speaker 2: evaluations would be coming out and people would be seeing
- 15:59Speaker 2: what's going to happen to their property taxes? So I'm
- 16:05Speaker 2: glad that they doubled the owner occupancy. I'm still troubled
- 16:10Speaker 2: that they didn't also do for our poorest senior citizens
- 16:15Speaker 2: because it is income based that they didn't do the
- 16:18Speaker 2: homestead exemption for poor senior citizens. And I'm disturbed that
- 16:23Speaker 2: that wasn't done as well. So because it is your
- 16:27Speaker 2: money that they're taking from you. So I think you
- 16:30Speaker 2: have a right to keep more of your money. So
- 16:33Speaker 2: with that being said, they do all of this, but
- 16:36Speaker 2: you will not be any further ahead. You will, in fact,
- 16:41Speaker 2: with these re-evaluations, be paying more in taxes. They will
- 16:45Speaker 2: still take more of your tax money based mostly on
- 16:49Speaker 2: inside millage, and there are some that go to outside millage.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And by the way, did you happen to see that
- 16:58Speaker 2: the commissioners approved the an additional levy for MRDD, an
- 17:03Speaker 2: additional levy that would cost you $ 85 additional for every
- 17:11Speaker 2: $ 100, 000 of value. This is a significant tax levy to
- 17:18Speaker 2: the likes of which I have to get the exact numbers.
- 17:20Speaker 2: They're going to go from, what, $ 100 million a year
- 17:29Speaker 2: From $ 60 million to $ 100 million a year. Do I
- 17:32Speaker 2: have that right, Ted? Does that sound right to you?
- 17:36Speaker 2: Did I lose him? I lost him. Let me check
- 17:42Speaker 2: on that.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Can you hear me?
- 17:44Speaker 3: I'm here.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Okay, yeah. It's like $ 100 million a year.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Right, right. No disrespect to those in need, but I
- 17:54Speaker 4: believe there are plenty of programs available. And I don't
- 18:00Speaker 4: know how to say this nicely, so I'll just say it.
- 18:04Speaker 4: When you and I have situations in our home, under
- 18:09Speaker 4: our roof, irregardless of what they are, it's your responsibility
- 18:15Speaker 4: and my responsibility.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 18:17Speaker 4: It's not the community's responsibility.
- 18:19Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 18:21Speaker 4: When we have children, it's our responsibility. And I'll be
- 18:26Speaker 4: honest with you. I hear some people talk about how
- 18:28Speaker 4: they can't wait until their kids are 18 so they
- 18:30Speaker 4: can kick them out or whatever. I mean, I'm not
- 18:33Speaker 4: one of those guys.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Nor am I.
- 18:35Speaker 4: My daughter is my daughter, and I know you aren't.
- 18:37Speaker 4: I know for sure you're not. I think you and
- 18:39Speaker 4: I are identical.
- 18:40Speaker 2: And they will be there.
- 18:42Speaker 4: My daughter is my responsibility until the day I die.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 18:47Speaker 4: And it's no one else's. It doesn't take a community.
- 18:49Speaker 4: It takes a responsible parent to deal with whatever life
- 18:53Speaker 4: throws at you. And to solve the problem. It's not
- 18:57Speaker 4: the community's problem. It's your problem.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So listen to this. I found it. Mahoney County Board
- 19:03Speaker 2: from the Vindicator. Mahoney County Board of Development Disabilities is
- 19:06Speaker 2: asking voters to approve its first new operating levy in
- 19:09Speaker 2: 26 years. But the measure could face... a considerable hurdle.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Money County auditor's office also reported that residential property values
- 19:17Speaker 2: increased an average of 24% during the county's latest triennial
- 19:24Speaker 2: property updates. 24%, folks. This will translate to a slight
- 19:28Speaker 2: increase in property taxes. Key word here, slight increase. So
- 19:33Speaker 2: you're going to be paying more for many residents. So
- 19:37Speaker 2: even though the commissioner's At the ends, doubled your owner occupancy,
- 19:43Speaker 2: it truly will be insignificant because your taxes will go
- 19:46Speaker 2: up anyway. Better to do it than not do it.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Make no mistake with it. me. Better to do it
- 19:51Speaker 2: than not do it. But you're still going to end
- 19:53Speaker 2: up paying more. I'm telling you they're pricing you out
- 19:56Speaker 2: of your home as a senior citizen and as I
- 20:00Speaker 2: don't care what age group you're in. So this will
- 20:02Speaker 2: translate to a slight increase in property taxes for many residents.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Ralph Meacham said the exact amount is still unclear. MCBDD
- 20:11Speaker 2: superintendents says the agency needs additional funding because a 2023
- 20:15Speaker 2: state decision increased Medicaid waiver reimbursement rates nearly doubled the
- 20:21Speaker 2: county's required local match. The resulting reduction in annual budget
- 20:25Speaker 2: carryover could leave the board financially insolvent in as little
- 20:28Speaker 2: as two years. Okay. MCBDD provides early intervention for infants
- 20:34Speaker 2: and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities, preschoolers, school-age children,
- 20:40Speaker 2: school-age education through the Leonard's Kurtz School, services and support administration.
- 20:46Speaker 2: It goes on with all of this kind of stuff, okay?
- 20:49Speaker 2: So let's see. It says, Mahoney County Commissioners..
- 20:51Speaker 4: Go ahead, I'm sorry.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Mahoney County Commissioners on Thursday approved placing a levy on
- 20:55Speaker 2: a November ballot with Commissioner Gino DeFabio stating that it
- 20:59Speaker 2: should be left up to the voters. Now, this guy
- 21:02Speaker 2: who's in charge of the... MRDD. Yeah, his name is Whitaker...
- 21:10Speaker 2: It says $ 100, 000 home, it would cost you $ 84 per year,
- 21:15Speaker 2: although that number has not been certified by Meacham's office.
- 21:18Speaker 2: He did not say exactly how much the levy would generate,
- 21:21Speaker 2: but noted that the board needs to make up roughly
- 21:23Speaker 2: $ 6 to $ 8 million deficit.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Why not cut programs? Why not tighten the belt? Why
- 21:32Speaker 4: not be more fiscally responsible? Why not maybe do a
- 21:36Speaker 4: performance audit? Come in there and let's see where the
- 21:39Speaker 4: dollars are going. Are they being spent properly? Where can
- 21:41Speaker 4: we save money? I've got to go back to what
- 21:43Speaker 4: I said about this Lauren McNally wanting to be county commissioner.
- 21:47Speaker 4: How dare you want some of your tax dollars back?
- 21:52Speaker 4: Here's a woman who really is running for office just
- 21:56Speaker 4: as Shepis did in Austintown. They are running to increase
- 22:01Speaker 4: your taxes. They are running... because they think they know
- 22:05Speaker 4: better how to spend your money than you do. Instead
- 22:07Speaker 4: of saying, let's be fiscally responsible, let's make cuts, let's
- 22:11Speaker 4: reduce salaries, instead of giving out, well, we negotiated with
- 22:16Speaker 4: the union, so we've got to give this raise to everyone.
- 22:19Speaker 4: What about renegotiating health care premiums? What about renegotiating wage cuts?
- 22:27Speaker 4: pay skills. If you can't get into the actual wage
- 22:29Speaker 4: and get a reduction in wages, what about long-term? Because
- 22:32Speaker 4: they've all got these crazy.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Pay skills.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Now, how is this possible? This guy, Whitaker, said the
- 22:41Speaker 2: cost of providing all MCBDD services has increased from $ 60
- 22:46Speaker 2: million annually to $ 100 million.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Doesn't make sense, does it?
- 22:52Speaker 2: He said MCBDD deficit spent $ 5. 8 million last year and
- 22:58Speaker 2: is projecting more than a $ 6 million deficit this year.
- 23:01Speaker 2: These are phenomenal amounts of money that they're talking about.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Without new revenue, the agency could require tax advances from
- 23:09Speaker 2: Meechan's office. Incidentally, those services, Whitaker noted, support nearly 1,000
- 23:17Speaker 2: local jobs. Okay, so what's he trying to say? That's
- 23:22Speaker 2: why it costs so damn much money, a thousand local jobs.
- 23:26Speaker 2: At the same time, homeowners should brace for higher property valuations.
- 23:31Speaker 2: So you're getting higher property valuations. And this guy wants
- 23:36Speaker 2: to sock you with this huge levy on top of that. Folks,
- 23:41Speaker 2: you are experiencing insanity. Absolute insanity.
- 23:47Speaker 4: You know what else, too? What do you, Ron, let's
- 23:50Speaker 4: just make a hypothetical situation. If the Ron Verb household
- 23:54Speaker 4: or Ted the Conservative household, if things get tight and
- 23:58Speaker 4: we're not bringing in as much money at going out
- 24:02Speaker 4: the door, do we go to our neighbors and knock
- 24:04Speaker 4: on the door and say, hey, can you give me
- 24:06Speaker 4: some money to pay my bill this week, this year?
- 24:09Speaker 4: Or do we look at our spending, sit down at
- 24:12Speaker 4: the kitchen table and say, okay, guys, we need to
- 24:15Speaker 4: make some cuts here. We need to tighten the belt.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Why can't local government do that?
- 24:23Speaker 2: It's beyond me, folks.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Why do they feel they need to get more money
- 24:28Speaker 4: and spend more money instead of being more fiscally responsible?
- 24:32Speaker 2: Let me sum it up. Let me say it like this.
- 24:36Speaker 2: And I want to make this clear to each and
- 24:37Speaker 2: every one of you. I believe each and every one
- 24:39Speaker 2: of you listening, you are under attack. You are under
- 24:44Speaker 2: attack by governments. And government's taking more of your money
- 24:50Speaker 2: on a regular basis.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Regular basis?
- 24:54Speaker 2: To where they are truly, and I know some of
- 24:56Speaker 2: you get tired of me saying this, they are pricing
- 24:59Speaker 2: you out of your home. They are pricing you out
- 25:02Speaker 2: of your home if you're a senior citizen. They are
- 25:04Speaker 2: making it difficult for young people to afford to buy
- 25:07Speaker 2: a home with the burden of property taxes. And they're
- 25:10Speaker 2: making it difficult for working people with the rate of
- 25:13Speaker 2: inflation in these taxes to be able to stay in
- 25:16Speaker 2: their home. So this is attacking everybody. I don't care
- 25:21Speaker 2: if you're retired. I don't care if you're looking to
- 25:23Speaker 2: buy a home. I don't care if you have a
- 25:25Speaker 2: home and you're working.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Even if you're a renter, it doesn't matter if you
- 25:29Speaker 4: live under a roof.
- 25:30Speaker 2: This is insanity. This is absolute insanity. And I'm here
- 25:35Speaker 2: to tell you something. It becomes much more difficult to
- 25:38Speaker 2: sell your home when you have high property taxes. Let's
- 25:44Speaker 2: not fool. When people look at buying a home, smart
- 25:48Speaker 2: people look at what the property taxes are and what
- 25:52Speaker 2: they will be. Because they say, I was talking to
- 25:55Speaker 2: a guy who called me when I was on break
- 25:58Speaker 2: who said his current taxes are $ 11, 000 a year. He
- 26:02Speaker 2: just got re-evaluated. That's $ 1, 000 a month, right?
- 26:06Speaker 6: Yes.
- 26:11Speaker 3: A little under.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Maybe $ 950, 000.
- 26:14Speaker 3: $ 950, 000.
- 26:14Speaker 4: A month gives you.
- 26:16Speaker 7: $ 12, 000.
- 26:16Speaker 2: He just got re-evaluated and they will go up. He's retired.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And he said, I can't afford to stay here. They
- 26:26Speaker 2: keep telling me this.
- 26:27Speaker 4: That's not an isolated incident.
- 26:31Speaker 2: No.
- 26:31Speaker 4: We've got senior citizens that are debating, do I pay
- 26:35Speaker 4: my bills to have a roof over my head? Or
- 26:37Speaker 4: do I take the medication to keep my heart working?
- 26:40Speaker 3: And you've got people like Lauren McNally and this goofball
- 26:45Speaker 3: in Austintown, Shepard, who think that's okay.
- 26:50Speaker 4: How dare you want a tax relief?
- 26:53Speaker 7: How dare you?
- 26:54Speaker 3: I'll tell you what.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I have a.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Lot of respect for that guy.
- 26:58Speaker 2: They all say they understand, but they really don't understand.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Those are just words. Talk is cheap. Deeds are precious.
- 27:04Speaker 4: They live off the dole. They don't understand. Their paycheck
- 27:08Speaker 4: comes from the government. So all they can think about
- 27:11Speaker 4: is how do I get more? How do I keep
- 27:13Speaker 4: this job? How do I keep this income?
- 27:16Speaker 8: Right.
- 27:17Speaker 4: And I do this by saying yes to all the unions.
- 27:20Speaker 4: So they vote for me. And I do this by
- 27:23Speaker 4: saying we need more taxes instead of being fiscally responsible
- 27:27Speaker 4: and honest people. But I've got to tell you, this
- 27:30Speaker 4: Shepard's guy, I lost all respect for him.
- 27:33Speaker 2: On the campaign.
- 27:33Speaker 4: He would not say where he stood on the issue.
- 27:36Speaker 4: But now we know exactly where he stood. I think
- 27:38Speaker 4: you and I knew where he stood. And you got
- 27:41Speaker 4: this goofball, Laura McNally, who's done nothing but live off
- 27:43Speaker 4: the goal. I mean, you've got to be next to
- 27:46Speaker 4: vote for this woman. She's telling you up front. There's
- 27:49Speaker 4: no need to debate any longer. She's telling you right
- 27:51Speaker 4: up front. She wants more of your tax dollars. How
- 27:54Speaker 4: dare you want a tax reduction? So I'll tell you what,
- 27:57Speaker 4: very critical. I've said this many times. Critical race in
- 28:00Speaker 4: Mahoney County. If you're upset with your property taxes right now,
- 28:04Speaker 4: you'll have a chance. To try to protect yourself in November,
- 28:09Speaker 4: you need county commissioners that are going to support you,
- 28:12Speaker 4: the taxpayer. And at the state level, same thing. House
- 28:15Speaker 4: of Representatives, I'm sorry. Appreciate everything Dave Thomas has done,
- 28:19Speaker 4: but you know what? Why isn't Columbus doing more to
- 28:22Speaker 4: give back money? Why are they always taking more local
- 28:24Speaker 4: dollars and giving less local dollars back? Local government funds,
- 28:28Speaker 4: I mean, we can go on and on and on.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:31Speaker 4: It's almost like we need our own Boston Tea Party.
- 28:35Speaker 4: We need a Mahoney River Tea Party. Oh, and Tangy
- 28:39Speaker 4: Tea Party up in Columbus. I mean, there needs to
- 28:41Speaker 4: be a revolt, Ron. I hate to say that. But
- 28:43Speaker 4: I think it's going to take a minute. If you
- 28:45Speaker 4: look at the history of our country, how we fought,
- 28:48Speaker 4: the 13 colonies fought to survive, we're getting to that
- 28:51Speaker 4: point again. But now it's not against the British. It's
- 28:53Speaker 4: against our own government. I'll leave you with that.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 28:58Speaker 4: I'm sure you've got many people waiting to talk.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Thank you. Ted, the conservative, NewsRadio 570, WKBN.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I just don't know. I look at this and I
- 29:18Speaker 2: must tell you that I signed the petition for the
- 29:23Speaker 2: constitutional amendments. to do away with property taxes. I highly
- 29:29Speaker 2: recommend you do as well. You are under attack. If
- 29:35Speaker 2: you're a senior citizen and you don't sign that, you
- 29:37Speaker 2: are making a giant mistake. You should sign it. hopefully
- 29:41Speaker 2: we get enough signatures to get it on the ballot
- 29:44Speaker 2: this is out of control i'm saying this to each
- 29:49Speaker 2: and every one of you they will not be happy
- 29:51Speaker 2: till they have all of your money It will never
- 29:55Speaker 2: be enough until they have all of your money. You
- 29:57Speaker 2: can lip words like saying, oh, we understand how tough
- 30:01Speaker 2: it is on individuals, but those words mean nothing if
- 30:04Speaker 2: you have the ability to lower taxes or the ability
- 30:10Speaker 2: to say no to something, as Commissioner No does, Pleshnik,
- 30:14Speaker 2: in Lake County. This is deeply disturbing to me on
- 30:27Speaker 2: You are going to get a very small savings, which
- 30:34Speaker 2: is good. But it will vanish in the blink of
- 30:38Speaker 2: an eye, and they know it, because they will end
- 30:40Speaker 2: up getting more money because of the re-evaluations. You will
- 30:43Speaker 2: pay even more in taxes without voting for a single levy.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Your tax bill will go up. Your property taxes, real
- 30:52Speaker 2: estate taxes. It will go up. And if this levy passes,
- 31:04Speaker 2: this MRDD levy, at $ 85 additional per $ 100, 000, that easily
- 31:11Speaker 2: can add to the average folks $ 170 to $ 250 or
- 31:13Speaker 2: more a year on your taxes, on top of what
- 31:17Speaker 2: you're already paying. And I'm going to tell you something.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I suggest that you sit back and before you vote
- 31:35Speaker 2: for any additional property taxes, you think long and hard
- 31:39Speaker 2: and you vote. If you're going to vote for property taxes,
- 31:43Speaker 2: it's time to vote in your best interest. And that
- 31:44Speaker 2: might be voting for your police department and your fire departments.
- 31:50Speaker 2: But that's about it. I'll be right back.
- 31:53Speaker 1: And Talk Station 570 WKBN.
- 31:56Speaker 2: So think about those things. I mean, when I sit
- 32:01Speaker 2: here and I tell you they won't be happy until
- 32:02Speaker 2: they have all of your money, I mean it. So
- 32:08Speaker 2: you got in Mahoney County, MRDD coming after you with
- 32:11Speaker 2: a big levy on the ballots. You got the re-evaluations
- 32:22Speaker 2: that will raise your taxes. And you got these commissioners
- 32:30Speaker 2: at the last minute giving you the owner occupancy credits.
- 32:34Speaker 2: And you got people up there in government bitching about
- 32:36Speaker 2: that coming your way. Basically, they're there saying, well, you know,
- 32:40Speaker 2: we shouldn't be giving these people the owner occupancy credits,
- 32:43Speaker 2: doubling that. We should be keeping that money. And yes,
- 32:49Speaker 2: your taxes are going to go up with the re-evaluations.
- 32:52Speaker 2: And yes, there's going to be a big levy for
- 32:55Speaker 2: MRDD unbalanced. But let the people vote on it. Let
- 32:58Speaker 2: the people speak. What do we care if they vote
- 33:02Speaker 2: themselves out of their own houses? Oh, no, wait a minute.
- 33:05Speaker 2: We've got to act like we care. We've got to
- 33:06Speaker 2: be phony politicians and act like, well, we understand the
- 33:09Speaker 2: difficulty it can be. But it's all talk. It's all BS.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Sign a petition. You need a constitutional amendment. You are
- 33:19Speaker 2: being ignored. You're being driven out of your home as
- 33:22Speaker 2: a result of property taxes. Period. You're driven out of it.
- 33:32Speaker 2: You too will get old. You too will be on
- 33:35Speaker 2: a fixed income. Do you think it's right to price
- 33:40Speaker 2: your parents out of your house, your grandparents? Do you
- 33:47Speaker 2: think it's a good idea to make it more difficult
- 33:49Speaker 2: because of high property taxes for young people to be
- 33:52Speaker 2: able to buy a home? Or everybody in between to
- 33:56Speaker 2: stay in one as these continue to go up? We
- 33:59Speaker 2: have electricity that's doubled in cost, as I was stating.
- 34:03Speaker 2: It's doubled here. The cost of your electric has doubled.
- 34:11Speaker 2: So you're paying more to air condition your house. Well,
- 34:14Speaker 2: once again, John Kerry and that Green New Deal people
- 34:18Speaker 2: think you should live like they do in France and Europe.
- 34:20Speaker 2: They don't have air conditioning, and you shouldn't have it either.
- 34:23Speaker 2: You should put a fan in a window and put
- 34:25Speaker 2: up with heat and humidity. That's what these arrogant asses
- 34:29Speaker 2: actually think and said. They're not thinking it. They said it.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I'm sure John Kerry would have air conditioning. I'm sure
- 34:39Speaker 2: all the liberals in power will have it, but you shouldn't. Well,
- 34:46Speaker 2: to hell with them. So I want you to stop
- 34:52Speaker 2: and I want you to think about this stuff. So
- 34:56Speaker 2: how refreshing is it when you see these people come
- 34:58Speaker 2: over here for the soccer that say how great air
- 35:00Speaker 2: conditioning is? How wonderful it is saying, what the hell
- 35:03Speaker 2: are we thinking in Europe that we don't have this,
- 35:06Speaker 2: that we put up with this heat? The more people
- 35:09Speaker 2: are dying as a result of it. When we could
- 35:12Speaker 2: have air conditioning and live much more comfortably. They're coming
- 35:16Speaker 2: from Europe, looking at how we do it here and saying,
- 35:18Speaker 2: this is how it should be. You know, all these
- 35:20Speaker 2: people who think this country just sucks. Then you see
- 35:25Speaker 2: these people are coming here from these other places who
- 35:27Speaker 2: think how wonderful it is. Look at Costco. Look at
- 35:30Speaker 2: Sam's Club. Look at Buc-ee's. Look at all the stuff
- 35:35Speaker 2: you can buy. And they come to America and they say,
- 35:37Speaker 2: what a great country. And we've got Elon Omar and
- 35:40Speaker 2: AOC and all these people that do nothing but hate
- 35:42Speaker 2: on this country. It's unbelievable. Don't let them tax you
- 35:53Speaker 2: out of your home. Like I say, save your powder, really.
- 35:58Speaker 2: And I'm going to tell you this, save your powder.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Do not vote for any of these additional levies. I
- 36:02Speaker 2: don't give a damn what they try to say. The
- 36:05Speaker 2: only ones, in all sincerity, I think the only ones
- 36:07Speaker 2: that you should support are your police and fire. Because
- 36:10Speaker 2: you need a fire truck to show up and you
- 36:12Speaker 2: need a cop to show up. Those are the only ones.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Save your powder for that. If you're going to vote
- 36:18Speaker 2: to increase your taxes, that's the only thing you should
- 36:20Speaker 2: vote to increase. Fight crime and you need your firefighters
- 36:24Speaker 2: and ambulances. Period. Outside of that, tell the rest of them,
- 36:29Speaker 2: stick it. Sign that constitutional amendment. The petition is for it.
- 36:36Speaker 2: You're on air.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Hello?
- 36:38Speaker 9: Yes. It's Christine Oliver.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Christine Oliver. How refreshing is it to hear from you?
- 36:46Speaker 2: And what do you make of this situation? I mean,
- 36:49Speaker 2: they did one, but they didn't do the other one.
- 36:53Speaker 9: You know, I'm for protecting their senior citizens with doing that.
- 36:58Speaker 9: And I personally had a 35% assessment on our home.
- 37:04Speaker 9: And I have to say, a small tax credit, you know,
- 37:07Speaker 9: doesn't offset very much, and it gives us some relief.
- 37:11Speaker 9: But our governments, our schools, our public entities, they will
- 37:14Speaker 9: continue receiving that revenue because we have higher property valuations
- 37:19Speaker 9: out there. So I don't believe we're taking away money
- 37:24Speaker 9: from that, and we're getting taxed even more. And I
- 37:27Speaker 9: believe in facts. So I want to set the record
- 37:29Speaker 9: straight on something I heard at the special commissioner's meeting
- 37:33Speaker 9: that's simply not true. I... I won't throw dirt or anything.
- 37:38Speaker 9: I'm going to say facts. So a certain legislature said
- 37:45Speaker 9: that we did not act on recommendations from the property
- 37:48Speaker 9: tax study committees. It was simply not true. We actually
- 37:52Speaker 9: passed either four or five bills last fall. They were
- 37:55Speaker 9: all supported by the governor's study committee, which included heavy
- 38:00Speaker 9: representation from our local governments and property tax collecting entities
- 38:04Speaker 9: and their lobbyists. So I don't know if maybe this
- 38:07Speaker 9: person wasn't there for the vote, but we absolutely did
- 38:10Speaker 9: pass bills to help support those things. So I want
- 38:13Speaker 9: to make sure that the people know that. We definitely
- 38:18Speaker 9: did things to support that, and I still believe we
- 38:21Speaker 9: need to do more to support our people. We do
- 38:24Speaker 9: have a fixed income for our senior citizens.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Stand by, Christine. And I know this because of my mom.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Stand by. Christine Oliver, back with her in a minute.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Stay tuned.
- 38:32Speaker 10: Weather and Talk Station 570 WKBN.
- 38:36Speaker 2: So think about those things. I mean, when I sit
- 38:40Speaker 2: here and I tell you they won't be happy until
- 38:42Speaker 2: they have all of your money, I mean it. So
- 38:47Speaker 2: you got in Mahoney County, MRDD coming after you with
- 38:50Speaker 2: a big levy on the ballots. You got the reevaluations
- 39:01Speaker 2: that will raise your taxes. And you got these commissioners
- 39:10Speaker 2: at the last minute giving you the owner occupancy credits.
- 39:13Speaker 2: And you got people up there in government bitching about
- 39:15Speaker 2: that coming your way. Basically, they're saying, well, you know,
- 39:20Speaker 2: we shouldn't be giving these people the owner occupancy credits,
- 39:22Speaker 2: doubling that. We should be keeping that money. And yes,
- 39:28Speaker 2: your taxes are going to go up with the reappointment.
- 39:31Speaker 2: And yes, there's going to be a big levy for
- 39:34Speaker 2: MRDD on the ballots. But let the people vote on it.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Let the people speak. What do we care if they
- 39:41Speaker 2: vote themselves out of their own houses? Oh, no, wait
- 39:44Speaker 2: a minute. We've got to act like we care. We've
- 39:45Speaker 2: got to be phony politicians and act like, well, we
- 39:48Speaker 2: understand the difficulty it can be. But it's all talk.
- 39:51Speaker 2: It's all BS. Sign a petition. You need a constitutional amendment.
- 39:58Speaker 2: You are being ignored. You're being driven out of your
- 40:01Speaker 2: home as a result of property taxes. Period. You're driven
- 40:07Speaker 2: out of it. You too will get old. You too
- 40:14Speaker 2: will be on a fixed income. Do you think it's
- 40:19Speaker 2: right to price your parents out of your house, your grandparents?
- 40:26Speaker 2: Do you think it's a good idea to make it
- 40:28Speaker 2: more difficult because of high property taxes for young people
- 40:31Speaker 2: to be able to buy a home? Or everybody in
- 40:35Speaker 2: between to stay in one as these continue to go up?
- 40:39Speaker 2: We have electricity that's doubled in cost, as I was stating.
- 40:42Speaker 2: It's doubled here. The cost of your electric has doubled.
- 40:50Speaker 2: So you're paying more to air condition your house. But
- 40:53Speaker 2: once again, John Kerry and that Green New Deal people
- 40:57Speaker 2: think you should live like they do in France and Europe.
- 40:59Speaker 2: They don't have air conditioning, and you shouldn't have it either.
- 41:02Speaker 2: You should put a fan in a window and put
- 41:04Speaker 2: up with heat and humidity. That's what these arrogant asses
- 41:08Speaker 2: actually think and said. They're not thinking it. They said it.
- 41:15Speaker 2: I'm sure John Kerry would have air conditioning. I'm sure
- 41:18Speaker 2: all the liberals in power will have it. But you shouldn't. Well,
- 41:25Speaker 2: to hell with them. So I want you to stop
- 41:31Speaker 2: and I want you to think about this stuff. So
- 41:35Speaker 2: how refreshing is it when you see these people come
- 41:37Speaker 2: over here for the soccer that say how great air
- 41:39Speaker 2: conditioning is? How wonderful it is saying, what the hell
- 41:43Speaker 2: are we thinking in Europe that we don't have this,
- 41:45Speaker 2: that we put up with this heat? The more people
- 41:48Speaker 2: are dying as a result of it. When we could
- 41:51Speaker 2: have air conditioning and live much more comfortably. They're coming
- 41:56Speaker 2: from Europe, looking at how we do it here and saying,
- 41:57Speaker 2: this is how it should be. You know, all these
- 41:59Speaker 2: people who think this country just sucks. Then you see
- 42:04Speaker 2: these people are coming here from these other places who
- 42:06Speaker 2: think how wonderful it is. Look at Costco. Look at
- 42:10Speaker 2: Sam's Club. Look at Bucky's. Look at all the stuff
- 42:14Speaker 2: you can buy. And they come to America and they say,
- 42:16Speaker 2: what a great country. And we got Elon Omar and
- 42:19Speaker 2: AOC and all these people that do nothing but hate
- 42:22Speaker 2: on this country. It's unbelievable. Don't let them tax you
- 42:32Speaker 2: out of your home. Like I say, save your powder, really.
- 42:37Speaker 2: And I'm going to tell you this, save your powder.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Do not vote for any of these additional levies. I
- 42:41Speaker 2: don't give a damn what they try to say. The
- 42:44Speaker 2: only ones, in all sincerity, I think the only ones
- 42:47Speaker 2: that you should support are your police and fire. Because
- 42:50Speaker 2: you need a fire truck to show up and you
- 42:52Speaker 2: need a cop to show up. Those are the only
- 42:54Speaker 2: ones to save your powder for that. If you're going
- 42:57Speaker 2: to vote to increase your taxes, that's the only thing
- 42:59Speaker 2: you should vote to increase. Fight crime and you need
- 43:02Speaker 2: your firefighters and ambulances, period. Outside of that, tell the
- 43:08Speaker 2: rest of them, stick it. Sign that constitutional amendment. The
- 43:14Speaker 2: petitions for it. You're on the air.
- 43:17Speaker 9: Hello?
- 43:18Speaker 4: Yes.
- 43:19Speaker 9: It's Christine Oliver.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Christine Oliver. How refreshing is it to hear from you?
- 43:25Speaker 2: And what do you make of this situation? I mean,
- 43:28Speaker 2: they did one, but they didn't do the other one.
- 43:33Speaker 9: You know, I'm for... both senior citizens with doing that.
- 43:37Speaker 9: And I personally had a 35% assessment on our home.
- 43:43Speaker 9: And I have to say a small tax credit, you know,
- 43:46Speaker 9: doesn't offset very much and it gives us some relief,
- 43:50Speaker 9: but our governments, our schools, our public entities, they will
- 43:53Speaker 9: continue receiving that revenue because we have higher property valuations
- 43:59Speaker 9: out there. So, I don't believe we're taking away money
- 44:03Speaker 9: from that and we're getting taxed even more. And I
- 44:06Speaker 9: believe in facts. So I want to set the record
- 44:09Speaker 9: straight on something I heard at the special commissioner's meeting
- 44:13Speaker 9: that's simply not true. I won't throw dirt or anything.
- 44:18Speaker 9: I'm going to say facts. So a certain legislature, a
- 44:23Speaker 9: legislator said that we did not act on recommendations from
- 44:27Speaker 9: the property tax study committees. It was simply not true.
- 44:31Speaker 9: We actually passed either four or five bills last fall.
- 44:34Speaker 9: They were all supported by the Governor's Study Committee, which
- 44:38Speaker 9: included heavy representation from our local governments and property tax
- 44:42Speaker 9: collecting entities and their lobbyists. So I don't know if
- 44:45Speaker 9: maybe this person wasn't there for the vote, but we
- 44:49Speaker 9: absolutely did pass bills to help support those things. So
- 44:52Speaker 9: I want to make sure that the people know that.
- 44:56Speaker 9: We definitely did things to support that, and I still
- 44:59Speaker 9: believe we need to do more to support our people.
- 45:02Speaker 9: We do have a fixed income for our senior citizens.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Stand by, Christine. And I know this because of my mom. Right,
- 45:08Speaker 2: stand by. Christine Oliver, back with her in a minute.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Stay tuned. Let's start here.
- 45:11Speaker 1: So good morning and welcome.
- 45:13Speaker 2: We are now underway.
- 45:14Speaker 10: We are following the events of the day.
- 45:16Speaker 1: What we're just now hearing about. This is new information.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Throughout the day.
- 45:20Speaker 7: Good day.
- 45:21Speaker 6: This is where it stands now.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Pick up the conversation. We'll talk about what's happening anytime.
- 45:26Speaker 2: The deal we reached with Iran.
- 45:28Speaker 9: The devil's in the details.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Bringing the price of gasoline down. Maintain the Fed funds rate.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Tying Pfizer to the Save Act.
- 45:33Speaker 2: NATO has been.
- 45:34Speaker 1: A paper tiger for the very latest.
- 45:37Speaker 2: We'll see how that all plays out.
- 45:39Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBS.
- 45:44Speaker 11: The Ohio State Highway Patrol releasing stats for the holiday weekend.
- 45:49Speaker 11: Eighteen people lost their lives in traffic crashes. Three of
- 45:53Speaker 11: those people were not wearing seatbelts at the time. And
- 45:57Speaker 11: the Ohio State Highway Patrol says in the five deadly
- 46:00Speaker 11: wrecks over the Fourth of July reporting period that involved
- 46:03Speaker 11: a motorcycle, three riders were not wearing a helmet at
- 46:06Speaker 11: the time. The town of Rittman, southwest of Akron, mourning
- 46:10Speaker 11: the shooting death of Rittman Police Sergeant Scott Reese.
- 46:13Speaker 2: He was killed.
- 46:14Speaker 11: Four Medina County Sheriff's deputies and a canine officer were
- 46:18Speaker 11: injured last night. Suspect two victims were later found dead
- 46:22Speaker 11: inside of a home. The latest on gas prices in
- 46:26Speaker 11: the Buckeye State. Current average we're paying for regular is
- 46:29Speaker 11: about $ 3. 58 a gallon. And that's down about $ 0. 23 a
- 46:34Speaker 11: gallon compared to last week. I'm Matt Reese.
- 46:38Speaker 10: Listen on the free iHeartRadio app for all your music, news, talk,
- 46:42Speaker 10: and sports radio.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Podcast 2.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Download the app.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Free never sounded so good. On NewsRadio 570, WKBN.
- 46:57Speaker 2: All right. News Radio 570 WKBN. So, Christine Oliver is
- 47:01Speaker 2: there saying you still support both of these things. You
- 47:05Speaker 2: believe the homestead exemption for seniors should also be done
- 47:10Speaker 2: as well, correct?
- 47:12Speaker 9: Absolutely. And I remember like with my mom, she was
- 47:15Speaker 9: on a fixed income. And I remember when things would
- 47:18Speaker 9: go up and she didn't have more money and she
- 47:20Speaker 9: would get upset. And I'd be like, don't worry, mom.
- 47:23Speaker 9: You know, we would help her. We made sure she
- 47:25Speaker 9: didn't have to worry. But not everybody is able to
- 47:28Speaker 9: do that. So we have to do things to help
- 47:32Speaker 9: our residents and our seniors because they worked their entire
- 47:35Speaker 9: lives to have that home. They should not be losing
- 47:38Speaker 9: their homes.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Absolutely right. Absolutely right. And this reevaluation, like you said,
- 47:46Speaker 2: we can do all of this. And guess what? You
- 47:48Speaker 2: still are going to end up paying more taxes with
- 47:50Speaker 2: the reevaluation. The government still wins.
- 47:53Speaker 9: Yes. Mine was 35%.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Insanity. There's no end in sight. I hope, you know, Pleschnik, Commissioner, no.
- 48:02Speaker 2: I think he's the guy that I hope you'll be
- 48:04Speaker 2: something like that, where the answer is usually no. We
- 48:07Speaker 2: can't afford it. We've got to deal with reality. We
- 48:10Speaker 2: can't continue to price people out of their homes.
- 48:13Speaker 9: No, we need to reevaluate budgets, tighten up our belts,
- 48:17Speaker 9: not have unnecessary spending and waste, and we have to
- 48:21Speaker 9: make sure that we're looking out for fraud as well.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Absolutely. All right. Thank you, Christine Oliver. Nice to hear
- 48:26Speaker 2: your voice.
- 48:27Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 48:28Speaker 9: Have a good day.
- 48:29Speaker 2: All right. You're on the air.
- 48:31Speaker 6: Hey, Ron.
- 48:31Speaker 3: How are you doing today?
- 48:32Speaker 2: I'm well. Thank you for calling.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Thank you. Hey, give me 30 seconds here. November 2025. Yeah,
- 48:41Speaker 3: November 2025, Boardman Township School District had two renewals on, 5.9, 6.0. May,
- 48:49Speaker 3: this past May, 2026, the township had three renewals on
- 48:54Speaker 3: the ballot. One of them was a police renewal. The
- 48:57Speaker 3: schools had a 5.9 renewal. Now, the schools are asking
- 49:02Speaker 3: for another renewal this November. And the township is asking
- 49:07Speaker 3: for a new levy for police and fire, which I
- 49:12Speaker 3: don't believe. I think this is nothing but the EMS
- 49:16Speaker 3: bottled up into that. because they still have that thorn.
- 49:20Speaker 3: in their side when they lost that election for EMS.
- 49:23Speaker 3: If they had been more transparent and maybe not have
- 49:26Speaker 3: lied to us, it might have passed, okay? Then there's
- 49:30Speaker 3: the chance that they're going to have the levy that
- 49:32Speaker 3: they let fall off. That may be in November. And
- 49:35Speaker 3: they're stating it's unexpected expenses. Now, whose job is it
- 49:40Speaker 3: that makes sure that we don't have anything unexpected show up?
- 49:45Speaker 3: Why are they making their problems my problem? I don't
- 49:49Speaker 3: understand this.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Well, let me bounce a couple things off of you.
- 49:52Speaker 2: And not that you don't make some legitimate points, okay?
- 49:56Speaker 2: In my opinion, the most important services that your community
- 50:02Speaker 2: does for you, that you pay for, Is a cop
- 50:06Speaker 2: showing up and having plenty of cops. I mean, cops
- 50:09Speaker 2: are important to prevent crime. And fire guys to show
- 50:13Speaker 2: up to put your house out if it catches on
- 50:15Speaker 2: fire or when you have the wind damage and to
- 50:18Speaker 2: clear the roads. I mean, fire departments do more than
- 50:20Speaker 2: just put houses out. So you need firemen. You need them.
- 50:25Speaker 2: And you need cops and you need a good amount
- 50:26Speaker 2: of them. And you also need somebody to show up
- 50:29Speaker 2: with an ambulance if you're having a stroke or a
- 50:31Speaker 2: heart attack pretty quick. So those are things that... that
- 50:37Speaker 2: I think you really got to make a priority, your
- 50:39Speaker 2: highest priority, because you benefit the most from them when
- 50:43Speaker 2: it comes to your property taxes. And I will be
- 50:45Speaker 2: the first to say this. It costs more. Police cars
- 50:49Speaker 2: cost more. Fire trucks cost more. All the raises cost more,
- 50:55Speaker 2: benefit packages cost more. So I get the inflation that's
- 50:59Speaker 2: affecting those services. And I also understand maybe sacrifices in
- 51:04Speaker 2: that standpoint to support those services. But that doesn't mean
- 51:10Speaker 2: you don't watch the dollars and make sure that these
- 51:13Speaker 2: departments aren't being operated as efficiently as possible as well.
- 51:17Speaker 2: You follow me?
- 51:18Speaker 3: Okay, can I counter you?
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, just as long as you follow me,
- 51:22Speaker 2: I'm not saying that you don't look at this and
- 51:25Speaker 2: follow this stuff to make sure that it's being spent wisely.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Listen, I'm all in favor of police and fire. Believe
- 51:32Speaker 3: me when I tell you. But this ambulance levy, okay.
- 51:36Speaker 3: They wanted $ 6. 1 million a year for this ambulance levy.
- 51:40Speaker 3: We asked them numerous, numerous times, what are you going
- 51:43Speaker 3: to do with $ 6. 1 million? Long story short, they finally
- 51:47Speaker 3: admitted all they needed was $ 2. 1 million a year to
- 51:51Speaker 3: run an ambulance.
- 51:51Speaker 4: They wanted to.
- 51:52Speaker 3: Mix up like three or four levies into one so
- 51:55Speaker 3: they wouldn't have to come back to us for 10
- 51:56Speaker 3: to 12 years, they said. So how am I supposed
- 51:59Speaker 3: to trust them now? This police fire levy that they're
- 52:02Speaker 3: putting on in November, with what happened back in 2024,
- 52:06Speaker 3: how am I supposed to trust them now? I don't
- 52:08Speaker 3: think this has anything to do with police and fire.
- 52:11Speaker 3: And it just so happens that the police are going
- 52:12Speaker 3: to be under contract negotiations, I think, in November, December,
- 52:17Speaker 3: and the fire is going to be up in February.
- 52:19Speaker 3: And it just so happens the schools are under negotiations now.
- 52:22Speaker 3: They're working without a contract. So all of a sudden,
- 52:25Speaker 3: we've got these contracts coming up, and So unexpected expenses
- 52:30Speaker 3: all of a sudden come into view, and now we've
- 52:32Speaker 3: got levies going on. And I'll tell you something else, Ron,
- 52:35Speaker 3: and I don't know if you know any of the
- 52:37Speaker 3: Borman trustees or whoever they are. I know they seem
- 52:41Speaker 3: to be nice guys, but as God as I'm standing here,
- 52:44Speaker 3: they don't care. They don't care. When our property tax
- 52:49Speaker 3: went up in 2024 with that 38% increase, I asked
- 52:52Speaker 3: them at a meeting. I said, did any of you
- 52:54Speaker 3: sitting there, any of you think, oh, my God, we
- 52:58Speaker 3: can't put this ambulance levy to these people? They just
- 53:01Speaker 3: got their butts kicked with a 38% increase. I said,
- 53:04Speaker 3: did any of you say anything? Not a one of them.
- 53:07Speaker 4: And I'm going to tell you this.
- 53:08Speaker 3: They sit there and they say, we feel you. We
- 53:11Speaker 3: know how you feel. It's going to affect us. Well,
- 53:13Speaker 3: let me tell you something. It's not going to affect them.
- 53:15Speaker 4: You know why? Because and I'm not.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Criticizing them for their job. I don't criticize them for
- 53:19Speaker 3: the money they're making. I congratulate them for doing a
- 53:22Speaker 3: good job and being as successful as they are. But
- 53:25Speaker 3: we got two attorneys. On that board, they're not going
- 53:28Speaker 3: to be affected by this. We've got a retired school
- 53:31Speaker 3: teacher who I hear is dipping somewhere else. He's not
- 53:34Speaker 3: going to be affected by this. And we've got the
- 53:36Speaker 3: other one who owns Meridian Healthcare. He's not going to
- 53:39Speaker 3: be affected by this. So don't sit there and tell
- 53:42Speaker 3: me it's raining when you're pissing on my head. OK,
- 53:46Speaker 3: don't sit there and say, oh, we're going to feel it, too,
- 53:48Speaker 3: because you're not. You're not going to feel it. And
- 53:51Speaker 3: like you said, you can't be quiet about this, Ron.
- 53:54Speaker 3: You said people are going to get tired, sick and
- 53:57Speaker 3: tired of me saying this. No, we're not. No, we're not.
- 54:00Speaker 3: You've got to keep saying it, because if you don't,
- 54:03Speaker 3: who will?
- 54:04Speaker 2: No, that's true.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Exactly. We've got to do something, Ron.
- 54:07Speaker 3: I mean, this is getting ridiculous. This is ridiculous. I
- 54:11Speaker 3: said this a long time ago. Anytime there's a problem, let's.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Put a levy on. Let's put a levy on.
- 54:17Speaker 3: Let's put a levy on.
- 54:17Speaker 4: Let's put a levy on.
- 54:20Speaker 3: How much longer is Boardman going to be able to
- 54:24Speaker 3: survive with the way that these taxes are going up?
- 54:28Speaker 3: I just don't understand. Where's their thought process when it
- 54:32Speaker 3: comes to these elderly people in Boardman? If this new
- 54:39Speaker 3: levy passes and then the so-called fire police, our taxes
- 54:43Speaker 3: are going to probably go up $ 600, $ 700 a year.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Well, here's my recommendation, and make no mistake about it.
- 54:48Speaker 2: You need to vote in your best interest. You follow me?
- 54:52Speaker 3: Oh, I do.
- 54:52Speaker 2: I mean, you need to say to yourself, I can't
- 54:55Speaker 2: afford any more, I'm not paying for any more, and
- 54:58Speaker 2: then you vote accordingly. I don't believe you should let
- 55:01Speaker 2: anyone tell you how to vote one way or the other.
- 55:03Speaker 2: You know your economics and you know what you're paying.
- 55:06Speaker 2: And you also have the ability to say, I can't
- 55:11Speaker 2: afford anymore. You're going to have to make do. You
- 55:14Speaker 2: have the ability to do that.
- 55:16Speaker 3: I can't. And I'll tell you something else I have
- 55:18Speaker 3: the ability to do, and I'll let you know on
- 55:20Speaker 3: this now. Lowville Fair, we're going to be smack dab
- 55:24Speaker 3: right in the middle of Lowville Fair, right in front
- 55:27Speaker 3: of the baby dance. We're going to be collecting signatures
- 55:29Speaker 3: to abolish property tax.
- 55:31Speaker 9: Well, good.
- 55:31Speaker 4: So I'll get that out there.
- 55:32Speaker 7: Now, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- 55:34Speaker 2: I think that's the only answer left.
- 55:38Speaker 3: I totally agree.
- 55:40Speaker 4: What did G2 say?
- 55:41Speaker 3: Blow it up.
- 55:42Speaker 2: You've got to blow it up to fix it.
- 55:44Speaker 4: You got it.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Thanks, Ron. Thank you. NewsRadio 570. WKBN. Ron Verp, stand
- 55:48Speaker 2: by for one minute. Let me talk to you about

- 55:56Speaker 2: and have been for many, many years at Stadium GM,
- 55:58Speaker 2: and I would encourage you to become one as well.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Instead of hating going to the car dealership or just
- 56:03Speaker 2: feel like you're being taken advantage of or that uneasy feeling,
- 56:07Speaker 2: I can change all of that when you walk in
- 56:09Speaker 2: at Stadium GM because that's how Shorty Navarro runs the operation,
- 56:13Speaker 2: Mike Kudak as well. And you'll go down and you'll
- 56:16Speaker 2: say to yourself, this is how I should be treated.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Somebody that respects your business, wants your business, will work
- 56:22Speaker 2: to keep your business for years to come and generations
- 56:25Speaker 2: to come. One stop at Stadium GM & R to

- 56:35Speaker 2: All under one roof. One dealership with everything not owned
- 56:39Speaker 2: by some large conglomerate where you really are just a number.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Where they sit around a sales meeting and talk about
- 56:46Speaker 2: profit and loss and you're just a number. Is that
- 56:49Speaker 2: how you want to be treated? Yes. You should be
- 56:51Speaker 2: treated better, and you will be treated better. When you
- 56:53Speaker 2: go to Stadium GM in the heart of Salem, visit

- 57:08Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 57:10Speaker 6: Hey, Ron.
- 57:10Speaker 3: Welcome back.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 57:13Speaker 8: Hey, I want to talk about the taxes, but I've
- 57:15Speaker 8: got to give a heads up to the WKBN app.
- 57:19Speaker 8: during that storm, you know, I got the alert on
- 57:22Speaker 8: my phone and I was able to watch Paul Wetzel
- 57:26Speaker 8: did a wonderful job saying what's coming. And I didn't
- 57:31Speaker 8: suffer any bad damage here, but I mean, the winds
- 57:34Speaker 8: were insane, totally insane.
- 57:37Speaker 2: It was crazy. I mean, it was, I was in
- 57:40Speaker 2: the heart of it, man. I mean, I'm, Our house
- 57:43Speaker 2: faces west, and, I mean, we took it on head-on.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Unbelievable winds, unbelievable rain, and still without power.
- 57:52Speaker 8: Well, thank God your wife talked you into those adult diapers, huh?
- 57:57Speaker 2: Absolutely, because I needed them when it was coming down.
- 58:03Speaker 4: Hey, on the taxes, all right?
- 58:06Speaker 8: In 2020, our house was evaluated at $ 219, 000, all right?
- 58:11Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 58:13Speaker 7: In 2023, it went up.
- 58:14Speaker 3: To $ 288, 000.
- 58:16Speaker 8: In 26, it's going to go up to $ 380, 000. It
- 58:19Speaker 8: almost doubled in value in six years. That's insane.
- 58:24Speaker 3: I don't mind.
- 58:25Speaker 8: I bought the house. I'm willing to pay the tax
- 58:29Speaker 8: on the original purchase price, but just unrealized taking... Taking
- 58:36Speaker 8: money out of my unrealized gains is just– that's got
- 58:39Speaker 8: to be some kind of crime.
- 58:40Speaker 3: It can't be legal.
- 58:43Speaker 12: What do you think?
- 58:44Speaker 2: I mean, almost– Right. Listen, I think it's insanity. I
- 58:50Speaker 2: think it's insanity, and I don't think anyone's income can
- 58:52Speaker 2: keep pace with this. I don't give a damn if
- 58:54Speaker 2: you're retired or if you're looking to buy a home
- 58:57Speaker 2: for the first time or you're in between. I'm saying
- 59:01Speaker 2: to each and every one of you, this is a
- 59:02Speaker 2: battle of your survival. And that's exactly what's going on.
- 59:07Speaker 2: And to come forth and say, oh, we're MRDD. We
- 59:10Speaker 2: want to put another big levy on the ballot. And
- 59:12Speaker 2: it only costs you $ 85 additional dollars per $ 100, 000 value
- 59:16Speaker 2: of your home. Well, gee, in your case, that's going
- 59:18Speaker 2: to be at least $ 170 or more a year on
- 59:22Speaker 2: top of what you're already paying if that passes.
- 59:26Speaker 8: And then the thing is, you know, it's 35%, like
- 59:28Speaker 8: it was 35% of $ 200, 000, you know, in 20. And
- 59:33Speaker 8: now it's 35% of, you know, $ 280, 000. And then 200,
- 59:38Speaker 8: I mean, 35% of $ 380, 000. You know, it's compounding what
- 59:44Speaker 8: they're taking from me. Like I said, I'd be cool
- 59:47Speaker 8: with just paying the original taxes on the original price.
- 59:51Speaker 8: And that'd be it. I'd be happy with that. And
- 59:53Speaker 8: they just got to stay within their means on their budget,
- 59:56Speaker 8: you know? But do you ever hear the bat signal?
- 1:00:00Speaker 8: You know how they put the bat signal up, Ron?
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: I'm putting out the boss lady signal. I'm waiting to
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: hear from her on this.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Well, you got to fight. You got to fight. You
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: got to sign a petition. I'm telling you, you are insulted.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: You have been insulted because they decide, oh, we're going
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: to give you the owner occupancy credits at the last day,
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: at the last minute, because we know the re-evaluations are
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: coming out and they're huge. So even though we gave
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: you a little bit back, we're still going to get
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: way more on the re-evaluations. And you've got people up
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: there bitching that they're saying, you can't give them this
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: money back. It's going to be devastating to communities. Hold
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: the phone. The re-evaluations, the inside millage is going to
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: go up.
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: But that thing, isn't that just for one year? Didn't
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: they say in Mahoning County.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: For one year? Yes, yes.
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: It's not even permanent, you know?
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Yep, yep.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Hey, Ron.
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: I got to go.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: He's always got to go. I don't know why he's
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: got to go. He's always leaving. He's always in a hurry.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Hi, Ron.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Speaking.
- 1:01:12Speaker 13: Appreciate you taking my call and share your frustrations about
- 1:01:18Speaker 13: how these taxes continue to increase overall. But again, I'll
- 1:01:23Speaker 13: disagree with the source of the issue here. I still
- 1:01:27Speaker 13: feel like we're looking at a local level for, quote, blame.
- 1:01:32Speaker 13: And I'm still adamant that the blame largely falls on
- 1:01:37Speaker 13: the state representatives.
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: I don't know if you saw the.
- 1:01:41Speaker 13: Vindicator article from last week where it talks about the
- 1:01:45Speaker 13: fact that Ohio lost 2,400 jobs or somewhere thereof in
- 1:01:50Speaker 13: the last month where the rest of the country increased jobs. $ 178, 000.
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: In the month.
- 1:01:58Speaker 13: And also, compared to a year from now, May, Ohio
- 1:02:03Speaker 13: has lost 58,000 jobs compared to the general nation that's
- 1:02:08Speaker 13: still increasing jobs. So I look at you and say, well, geez,
- 1:02:12Speaker 13: we're taking all these liquor taxes and giving it to
- 1:02:16Speaker 13: Jobs Ohio, and I ask you, for what? I thought
- 1:02:20Speaker 13: Jobs Ohio was supposed to be out there getting us
- 1:02:23Speaker 13: more jobs and whatever. And I'm sorry, Ron, are you
- 1:02:26Speaker 13: seeing this massive increase of companies coming, not necessarily to
- 1:02:30Speaker 13: the Valley, but to the state?
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Well, I would argue with that and say, quite frankly,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I do in this community. I mean, we're building Kimberly-Clark.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: That's a huge investment with jobs in our community, if
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: you view our community as a region. I don't think
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: that's nothing to sneeze at. Do you?
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: I'll give you that.
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: I'll give you that.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: All I can tell you... All I can tell you
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: is from what I see from a local level, we
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: seem to be growing pretty good as far as our
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: jobs in the community in which I live, in the
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: region in which I live, which is what is the
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: most important thing to me. But let me back up.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: Even though Kimberly Clark came, that's great.
- 1:03:16Speaker 13: We shut down all TMSLs, you know what I mean?
- 1:03:20Speaker 11: We didn't.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: No, we didn't. We didn't shut it down. The market
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: just hasn't bought the product that they were making. That
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: is capitalism. Putting all your eggs in this idea that
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: people are going to buy electric cars just hasn't panned out,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: and they're not doing that. So that's a bad business decision.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: You can't say, well, we're going to keep all these
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: people employed making a product. I'm not asking them to.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Stand by. Stand by. Stand by. Back in a minute.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Stay tuned. All right. News Radio 570. So, Christine Oliver
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: is there saying you still support both of these things.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: You believe the homestead exemption for seniors should also be
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: done as well, correct?
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:04:15Speaker 9: And I remember like with my mom, she was on
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: a fixed income. And I remember when things would go
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: up and she didn't have more money and she would
- 1:04:23Speaker 9: get upset and I'd be like, don't worry, mom. You know,
- 1:04:26Speaker 9: we would help her. We made sure she didn't have
- 1:04:28Speaker 9: to worry. But not everybody is able to do that.
- 1:04:31Speaker 9: So we have to do things to help our residents
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: and our seniors because they worked their entire lives to
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: have that home. They should not be losing their homes.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Absolutely right. Absolutely right. And this re-evaluation, like you said,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: we can do all of this. And guess what? You
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: still are going to end up paying more taxes with
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: the re-evaluation. The government still wins. Yes.
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: Mine was 35%.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: Insanity. There's no end in sight. I hope, you know, Pleschnik, Commissioner, no.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: I think he's the guy that I hope you'll be
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: something like that, where the answer is usually no. We
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: can't afford it. We've got to deal with reality. We
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: can't continue to price people out of their homes.
- 1:05:16Speaker 9: No, we need to reevaluate budgets, tighten up our belts,
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: not have unnecessary spending and waste, and we have to
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: make sure that we're looking out for fraud as well.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: Absolutely. All right. Thank you, Christine Oliver. Nice to hear
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: your voice.
- 1:05:30Speaker 9: You're welcome. Have a good day.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: All right. You're on the air. Hey, Ron.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: How are you doing today?
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: I'm well. Thank you for calling.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Thank you. Hey, give me 30 seconds here. November 20... 25. Yeah,
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: November 2025, Boardman Township School District had two renewals on, 5.9, 6.0. May,
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: this past May, 2026, the township had three renewals on
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: the ballot. One of them was a police renewal. The
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: schools had a 5.9 renewal. Now, the schools are asking
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: for another renewal this November. And the township is asking
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: for a new levy for police and fire, which I
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: don't believe. I think this is nothing but the EMS
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: bottled up into that because they still have that thorn
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: in their side when they lost that election for EMS.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: If they had been more transparent and maybe not have
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: lied to us, it might have passed. Then there's the
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: chance that they're going to have the levy that they
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: let fall off. That may be in November. And they're
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: stating it's unexpected expenses. Now, whose job is it that
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: makes sure that we don't have anything unexpected show up?
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: Why are they making their problems my problem? I don't
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: understand this.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: Well, let me bounce a couple things off of you.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: And not that you don't make some legitimate points, okay?
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: In my opinion, the most important services that your community
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: does for you, that you pay for, is a cop
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: showing up and having plenty of cops. I mean, cops
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: are important to prevent crime. And fire guys to show
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: up to put your house out if it catches on
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: fire or when you have the wind damage and to
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: clear the roads. I mean, fire departments do more than
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: just put houses out. So you need firemen. You need them.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: And you need cops and you need a good amount
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: of them. And you also need somebody to show up
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: with an ambulance if you're having a stroke or a
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: heart attack pretty quick. So those are things that... that
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: I think you really got to make a priority, your
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: highest priority, because you benefit the most from them when
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: it comes to your property taxes. And I will be
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: the first to say this. It costs more. Police cars
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: cost more. Fire trucks cost more. Races cost more. Benefit
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: packages cost more. So I get the inflation that's affecting
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: those services. And I also understand maybe sacrifices in that
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: standpoint to support those services. But that doesn't mean you
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: don't watch the dollars and make sure that these departments
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: aren't being operated as efficiently as possible as well. You
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: follow me?
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: Okay, can I counter you?
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, just as long as you follow me.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: I'm not saying that you don't look at this and
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: follow this stuff to make sure that it's being spent wisely.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: But then i'm all in favor of police and fire
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: believe me when i tell you but this ambulance levy
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: okay it didn't want to six point one million dollars
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: a year for the family left levy we have been
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: numerous numerous times what are you going to do with
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: six point one million long story short they finally admitted
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: all they needed was two point one million a year
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: to run an ambulance they wanted to mix up like
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: three or four levies into one so they wouldn't have
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: to come back to us for 10 to 12 years,
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: they said. So how am I supposed to trust them now?
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: This police fire levy that they're putting on in November
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: with what happened back in 2024, how am I supposed
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: to trust them now? I don't think this has anything
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: to do with police and fire. And it just so
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: happens that the police are going to be under contract negotiations,
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: I think, in November, December, and the fire is going
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: to be up in February. And it just so happens
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: the schools are under negotiations now. They're working without a contract.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: So all of a sudden, we got these contracts coming
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: up and unexpected expenses all of a sudden come into view.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: And now we got levies going on. And I'll tell
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: you something else, Ron, and I don't know if you
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: know any of the Borman trustees or whoever they are,
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: I know they seem to be nice guys, but as
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: God as I'm standing here, they don't care. They don't care.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: When our property tax went up in 2024 with that 38% increase,
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: I asked them at a meeting. I said, did any
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: of you sitting there, any of you think, oh, my God,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: we can't put this ambulance levy to these people? They
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: just got their butts kicked with a 38% increase. I said,
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: did any of you say anything?
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: Not a one of them.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: And I'm going to tell you this.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: They sit there and they say, we feel you. We
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: know how you feel. It's going to affect us.
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: Well, let me tell you something.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: It's not going to affect them. You know why? Because
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: and I'm not criticizing them for their job. I don't
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: criticize them for the money they're making. I congratulate them
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: for doing a good job and being as successful as
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: they are. But we got two attorneys. On that board,
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: they're not going to be affected by this. We've got
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: a retired school teacher who I hear is dipping somewhere else.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: He's not going to be affected by this. And we've
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: got the other one who owns Meridian Healthcare. He's not
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: going to be affected by this. So don't sit there
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: and tell me it's raining when you're pissing on my head. OK,
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: don't sit there and say, oh, we're going to feel it, too,
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: because you're not. You're not going to feel it. And
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: like you said, you can't be quiet about this, Ron.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: You said people are going to get tired, sick and
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: tired of me saying this.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: No, we're not.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: No, we're not. You've got to keep saying it, because
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: if you don't, who will?
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: No, that's true. Exactly.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: We've got to do something, Ron. I mean, this is
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: getting ridiculous.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: This is ridiculous.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: I said this a long time ago. Anytime there's a problem,
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: let's put a levy on. Let's put a levy on.
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: Let's put a levy on. Let's put a levy on.
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: How much longer is Boardman going to be able to
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: survive with the way that these taxes are going up?
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: I just don't understand. Where's their thought process when it
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: comes to these elderly people in Boardman? If this new
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: levy passes and then the so-called fire police, our taxes
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: are going to probably go up $ 600, $ 700 a year.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Well, here's my recommendation, and make no mistake about it.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: You need to vote in your best interest. You follow me?
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: Oh, I do.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: I mean, you need to say to yourself, I can't
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: afford anymore, I'm not paying for anymore, and then you
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: vote accordingly. I don't believe you should let anyone tell
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: you how to vote one way or the other. You
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: know your economics and you know what you're paying. And
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: you also have the ability to say, I can't afford anymore.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: You're going to have to make do. You have the
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: ability to do that.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: I can't. And I'll tell you something else I have
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: the ability to do. And I'll let you know on
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: this now. Low bill fare. We're going to be smack
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: dab right in the middle of low bill fare, right
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: in front of the baby dance. We're going to be
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: collecting signatures to abolish property taxes.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Well, good.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: I'll get that out there now.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I think that's the only answer left.
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: I totally agree.
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: What did G2 say?
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: Blow it up.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: You've got to blow it up to fix it.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: You got it.
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: Thanks, Ron.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Thank you. NewsRadio 570 WKBN. Ron Verp, stand by for
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: one minute. Let me talk to you about the good
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: folks at Stadium GM in the heart of Salem. I'm
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: proud to talk about them because I'm a customer and
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: have been for many, many years at Stadium GM, and
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: I would encourage you to become one as well. Instead
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: of hating going to the car dealership or just feel
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: like you're being taken advantage of or that uneasy feeling,
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I can change all of that when you walk in
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: at Stadium GM because that's how Shorty Navarro runs the operation,
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Mike Kudak as well. And you'll go down and you'll
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: say to yourself, this is how I should be treated.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Somebody that respects your business, wants your business, will work
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: to keep your business for years to come and generations
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: to come. One stop at Stadium GM in the heart
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: of Salem for everything that General Motors has. Everything. Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: All under one roof. One dealership with everything not owned
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: by some large conglomerate where you really are just a number.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Where they sit around in a sales meeting and talk
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: about profit and loss and you're just a number. Is
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: that how you want to be treated?
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: You should be treated better, and you will be treated better.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: When you go to Stadium GM in the heart of Salem,
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: visit the website stadiumgm.com. Look at all of our new
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: and used products, whether you're buying, leasing, whatever the case
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: might be, new or used. You can see it for
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: yourself at stadiumgm.com. You're on the air.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: Hey, Ron.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Welcome back.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:14:15Speaker 8: Hey, I want to talk about the taxes, but I've
- 1:14:18Speaker 8: got to give a heads up to the WKBN app.
- 1:14:22Speaker 8: During that storm, you know, I got the alert on
- 1:14:24Speaker 8: my phone, and I was able to watch Paul Wetzel
- 1:14:28Speaker 8: did a wonderful job saying what's coming. And I didn't
- 1:14:33Speaker 8: suffer any bad damage here, but, I mean, the winds
- 1:14:37Speaker 8: were insane, totally insane.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: It was crazy. I mean, I was in the heart
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: of it, man. I mean, our house faces west, and,
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: I mean, we took it on head on. Unbelievable winds,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: unbelievable rain, and still without power.
- 1:14:55Speaker 8: Well, thank God your wife talked you into those adult diapers, huh?
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Absolutely, because I needed them when it was coming down.
- 1:15:05Speaker 8: Hey, on the taxes, all right? In 2020, our house
- 1:15:09Speaker 8: was evaluated at $ 219, 000, all right? In 2023, it went
- 1:15:11Speaker 8: up to $ 288, 000. In 26, it's going to go up
- 1:15:21Speaker 8: to $ 380. Almost doubled in value in six years. That's insane.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: I don't mind.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: I bought the house.
- 1:15:30Speaker 8: I'm willing to pay the tax on the original purchase price,
- 1:15:33Speaker 8: but just taking money out of my unrealized gains is just,
- 1:15:41Speaker 8: that's got to be some kind of crime.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: It can't be legal.
- 1:15:46Speaker 7: What do you think?
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: I mean, almost.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Right. Listen, I think it's insanity. I think it's insanity,
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: and I don't think anyone's income can keep pace with this.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: I don't give a damn if you're retired or if
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: you're looking to buy a home for the first time
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: or you're in between. I'm saying to each and every
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: one of you, this is a battle of your survival.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: And that's exactly what's going on. And to come forth
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: and say, oh, we're MRDD, we want to put another
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: big levy on the ballot, and it only costs you
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: $ 85 additional dollars per $ 100, 000 value of your home. Well, gee,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: in your case, that's going to be at least $ 170
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: or more a year, on top of what you're already paying,
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: if that passes.
- 1:16:28Speaker 8: And then the thing is, you know, it's 35%, like
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: it was 35% of $ 200, 000, you know, in 2020. and
- 1:16:35Speaker 8: now it's 35% of, you know, 280, and then 200,
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: I mean, 35% of 380, you know, it's compounding what
- 1:16:46Speaker 8: they're taking from me. Like I said, I'd be cool
- 1:16:49Speaker 8: with just paying the original taxes on the original.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: Price, and that'd be it.
- 1:16:54Speaker 8: I'd be happy with that, and they just got to
- 1:16:57Speaker 8: stay within their means on their budget, you know? But,
- 1:17:00Speaker 8: you know, did you ever hear of the bat signal?
- 1:17:02Speaker 8: You know how they put the bat signal up, Ron?
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:17:06Speaker 8: I'm putting out the boss lady signal. I'm waiting to
- 1:17:09Speaker 8: hear from.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: Her on this.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Well, you got to fight. You got to fight. You
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: got to sign the petition. I'm telling you, you are insulted.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: You have been insulted because they decide, oh, we're going
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: to give you the owner occupancy credits at the last day,
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: at the last minute, because we know the re-evaluations are
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: coming out and they're huge. So even though we gave
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: you a little bit back, we're still going to get
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: way more on the re-evaluations. And you've got people up
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: there bitching that they're saying, you can't give them this
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: money back. It's going to be devastating to communities. Hold
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: the phone. The re-evaluations, the inside millage is going to
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: go up.
- 1:17:51Speaker 8: But that thing, isn't that just for one year? Didn't
- 1:17:54Speaker 8: they say in Mahoning.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: County for one year? Yes, yes.
- 1:17:58Speaker 8: It's not even permanent, you know?
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: Yep, yep.
- 1:18:02Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Hey, Ron.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: I got to go.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: He's always got to go. I don't know why he's
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: got to go. He's always leaving. He's always in a hurry.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Hi, Ron.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Speaking.
- 1:18:14Speaker 13: Appreciate you taking my call and share your frustrations about
- 1:18:21Speaker 13: how these taxes continue to increase overall. But again, I'll
- 1:18:25Speaker 13: disagree with the source of the issue here. I still
- 1:18:30Speaker 13: feel like we're looking at a local level for, quote, blame.
- 1:18:34Speaker 13: And I still admit that the blame largely falls on
- 1:18:39Speaker 13: the state representatives.
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: I don't know if you saw the.
- 1:18:44Speaker 13: Vindicator article from last week where it talks about the
- 1:18:47Speaker 13: fact that Ohio lost. 2,400 jobs or somewhere thereof in
- 1:18:53Speaker 13: the last month where the rest of the country increased jobs.
- 1:18:56Speaker 13: $ 178, 000 in the month. And also, compared to.
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: A year from now, May, Ohio.
- 1:19:05Speaker 13: Has lost 58,000 jobs compared to the general nation that's
- 1:19:10Speaker 13: still increasing jobs. So I look at you and say, well, geez,
- 1:19:15Speaker 13: we're taking all these liquor taxes and giving it to
- 1:19:18Speaker 13: Jobs Ohio, and I ask you, for what? I thought
- 1:19:22Speaker 13: Jobs Ohio was supposed to be out there getting us
- 1:19:25Speaker 13: more jobs and whatever. And I'm sorry, Ron, are you
- 1:19:28Speaker 13: seeing this massive increase of companies coming, not necessarily to
- 1:19:33Speaker 13: the Valley, but to the state?
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Well, I would argue with that and say, quite frankly,
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: I do in this community. I mean, we're building Kimberly-Clark.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: That's a huge investment with jobs in our community, if
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: you view our community as a regent. I don't think
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: that's nothing to sneeze at, do you?
- 1:19:56Speaker 13: I'll give you that.
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: I'll give you that.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: I mean, all I can tell you is from what
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: I see from a local level, we seem to be
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: growing pretty good as far as our jobs in the
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: community in which I live, in the region in which
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: I live. which is what is the most important thing
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: to me. But let me back up.
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: But even though Kimberly Clark came, that's great.
- 1:20:19Speaker 13: We shut down Altium Cells.
- 1:20:21Speaker 14: You know what I mean?
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: We didn't shut it down. The market just hasn't bought
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: the product that they were making. That is capitalism. Putting
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: all your eggs in this idea that people are going
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: to buy electric cars just hasn't panned out, and they're
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: not doing that. So that's a bad business decision. You
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: can't say, well, we're going to keep all these people
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: employed making a product.
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: I'm not asking them to.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: Stand by. Stand by. Stand by. Back in a minute.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: Stay tuned.
- 1:20:57Speaker 10: Now, Ron Verb on NewsRadio 570 WKBN. All right, back
- 1:21:07Speaker 10: to it. NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Let me see. Don't make everybody's problems my problems is
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: what I'm saying to you. And I don't think you
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: understand that. I'm not here to solve everybody's problems or
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: pay for them all. I don't think we can afford it.
- 1:21:22Speaker 13: Well, you're still picking one problem over another.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: Because you're on the side.
- 1:21:27Speaker 13: Of seniors before you're on the side of students or
- 1:21:31Speaker 13: children that need more DV services.
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: You're damn right I am.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: You're right.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: I'm on the side of the person paying the taxes
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: who are pricing out of their home. I am most
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: definitely picking a side saying that your private property that
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: you own should not be taken from you because we've
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: taxed you out of it. You're damn right that's the
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: side I'm picking. I'm also picking the side that everybody's
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: problems aren't my problems. Everybody's problems aren't the taxpayers' problems.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: I too am a parent and, and, and I take
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: care of my children and I will always take care
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: of my children. And guess what? That's part about being
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: a parent. And so, so there, so here's the reality.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: There are budgets people can afford so much and that's
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: the way it goes. So you can't just say, you know,
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: you want it to, you're one of these people that say, Oh, I, I,
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: I think we should do this at the state level. Well,
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: that never seems to come. So that's why I'm champion the, uh, the, um,
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: constitutional amendment signatures because why don't you vote them out
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: because because this never happens because what and this is
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: a shining example of what's happening in mahoning county right
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: now oh by the way we're going to give you
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: owner occupancy you're going to get a little bit of
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: a refund it's not much better than nothing but it's
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: you're getting some of your money back Oh, and by
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: the way, we reevaluated your house. So when the dust settles,
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: you'll be paying even more property taxes than you're paying now.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: We're still going to end up with more, and you're
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: not going to vote for anything additional. You're still going
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: to be paying more on top of what you're paying
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: because of the reevaluations.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: Vote them out.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: And guess what I'm doing? Sign the constitutional amendments. Get
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: it signed or sign this petition. Get it there and
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: get rid of this insanity because they will never be
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: happy till they have all of your money. Period. End
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: of story. Stop with the everybody's problems is your problems.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: The only answer is you got to pay more. We
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: got to take more of your money. And I disagree.
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: I think you're not.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Following the Oh, here's... Okay. How long do you think
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: that's going to take before they be held accountable? Okay.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: And do you think that it's going to be solved?
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: Really?
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: Well, let me tell you the only thing I see.
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: So far, the only thing I see are the Republicans
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: trying to do something with my property taxes, whether that's
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: Dave Thomas, whether that's Tex Fisher, or the Republicans that
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: are supporting my own... Oh, bullcrap. Why don't you admit it?
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: You're just a tax and spend liberal. You don't care.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: You think everybody's problems is my problem. No, yes, you do.
- 1:24:20Speaker 9: No, you..
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: No, you want to tax me more. That's what you want. No,
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: I don't. Yes, you do.
- 1:24:26Speaker 9: No, I don't.
- 1:24:26Speaker 14: They already have my money.
- 1:24:27Speaker 13: That's why I don't want to vote for more levies either.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but you do, don't you?
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: The state has the money.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Don't you? The state has the money. You just see
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: you later. You're on the air.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Hey, Ron.
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: Standing O, Ron.
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: You get an aye-aye, Captain.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: I think this is so ridiculous.
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: Oh, my God. She is absolutely. She's a socialist. She's
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: a socialist liberal. And I don't like.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: To talk about it. She is a pro-tax. See, here's
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: what I'm going to tell all of you. These are
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: the people that say, well, we ought to be doing
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: this down in a state. But that never happens. And
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: I don't care who you vote for. That never happens,
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: which means you never get any relief. These are just
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: meaningless words. They're meaningless words that absolutely mean nothing.
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: Your argument is weak at best. At the end of
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: the day, you have.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: To start local.
- 1:25:26Speaker 14: Because local is where a lot of our property taxes.
- 1:25:29Speaker 14: And we're doing it at a state level as well, right?
- 1:25:33Speaker 14: I mean, that's the whole trying to abolish property taxes.
- 1:25:36Speaker 14: But you also have to focus local. I'm glad that
- 1:25:38Speaker 14: they doubled the homestead exemption or owner occupancy.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: But as you said very well, and the caller before said,
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: it's a small amount now.
- 1:25:52Speaker 14: With that being said, it's better than nothing because it
- 1:25:55Speaker 14: is our money. But what really impressed me was Erie County.
- 1:26:00Speaker 14: Did you see that Erie County doubled the homestead and
- 1:26:03Speaker 14: the occupancy and then refused the property tax increase?
- 1:26:09Speaker 9: They pulled every.
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: Lever in their power.
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Every one.
- 1:26:14Speaker 14: Now, those guys get a standing ovation.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: That's a standing ovation. That's how you lead through this mess. Yep.
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: And then one other thing that.
- 1:26:24Speaker 14: Really impressed me was, is I don't know if you
- 1:26:26Speaker 14: saw that Mesopotamia Fire Department, they do a ox roast.
- 1:26:31Speaker 14: They've been doing it for 50 years and people rave
- 1:26:33Speaker 14: about it.
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: I didn't realize this. I don't even know where that's
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: at really. But you know what they do that for?
- 1:26:42Speaker 14: They do it for equipment and training for the fire department.
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: Now, I thought that was, I mean, that's amazing.
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:26:50Speaker 14: They bring in so much money that they're able to
- 1:26:53Speaker 14: get their equipment and train their fire department. Instead of
- 1:26:56Speaker 14: going to the taxpayers, every time they want something, they
- 1:27:00Speaker 14: do this math. They get 20,000 to 30,000 people in attendance.
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: It's so huge. And I guess the aux is just incredible.
- 1:27:08Speaker 14: And the community supports them because not everything should be
- 1:27:12Speaker 14: attached to nothing. First of all, nothing, I don't think,
- 1:27:14Speaker 14: I don't believe in it, should be attached to your home.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: You could do fundraisers.
- 1:27:19Speaker 14: And I thought, well, why aren't other people doing fundraisers
- 1:27:22Speaker 14: of this magnitude? I mean, somebody needs to call up
- 1:27:27Speaker 14: them and try to figure out what they're doing and
- 1:27:29Speaker 14: how they started because they are highly successful.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: But there's a lot of variables there as far as
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: population and how big a department you have and calls. Sure, sure.
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: That's no joke. 30,000 people in attendance is a big deal.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: Right, but everyone can't do that. here's the bottom line.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: I mean, the bottom line is you have to pay
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: for the services that you get in some fashion. I mean,
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: you want somebody to show up to plow your road
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: when it snows.
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: We talked about this.
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: You want a cop to show up when you need
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: one and you want a fire department to show up. Uh,
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: look how busy they've been the last couple with this storm.
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: And you want, these are services that you're going to
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: have to pay for as long as they don't become, um,
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: Wasteful spending. You've still got to monitor it. Don't misunderstand me.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: But these are services that you need, so you're going
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: to have to pay for them. The people who.
- 1:28:26Speaker 6: Are out there trying to say we don't support cops
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: and teachers in the fire department are just stupid.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: They're ill-informed. You support them hugely right now on your
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: property taxes.
- 1:28:37Speaker 14: We support them, and I would give whatever they needed.
- 1:28:40Speaker 14: to the police department. I live in an extremely safe community.
- 1:28:43Speaker 6: I fear I could leave my doors and windows.
- 1:28:45Speaker 9: Open all day.
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: Probably not now since I'm announcing it on your show,
- 1:28:51Speaker 6: but it's safe. And these guys do a hell of
- 1:28:54Speaker 6: a job. And if I called, they'd be here in
- 1:28:56Speaker 6: two seconds. We will absolutely support them. The problem is,
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: is the spending has gone way out of control. We
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: don't have a money problem. We have a spending and
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: fraud problem, and they need to rein it in. And
- 1:29:09Speaker 6: until you hold people accountable, they will never stop. And
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: that Bruce Shepis, I cannot even believe. It was sickening
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: watching him go into that meeting and cry like a
- 1:29:21Speaker 6: little baby over a.
- 1:29:25Speaker 14: Is unbelievable when they're going to get it right back
- 1:29:28Speaker 14: through the property tax increase. Now, what kind of guts
- 1:29:32Speaker 14: you have to go into a meeting and cry about
- 1:29:34Speaker 14: the fact that the people in your community are going
- 1:29:38Speaker 14: to get a little bit of money, $ 100, maybe $ 50,
- 1:29:42Speaker 14: probably mine's only $ 150. So for the size of my house,
- 1:29:46Speaker 14: I don't know what the average size of the home
- 1:29:48Speaker 14: is in Austin town. I don't know, but I'm probably.
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: On average, maybe $ 70, $ 80 they're going to get. a household,
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: and he's going to cry in grandstand in a meeting
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: and throw a fit how he didn't know and why
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: didn't they call him?
- 1:30:02Speaker 14: And did he need a singing telegram to tell him
- 1:30:05Speaker 14: that people were fired up and sick of property taxes?
- 1:30:08Speaker 14: Did Sheppas need somebody to knock on his door and say, hey,
- 1:30:11Speaker 14: if you have any qualms.
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: Or you're concerned about anything? He's known about it the
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: entire time. Thank God he did not win that primary.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: Well, it's a different philosophy, I will say that. It's
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: a much different philosophy to basically say, I get so
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: tired of people talking and saying stuff that doesn't accomplish anything.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: What is going on right now is a serious issue
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: with people today. I'm not talking five years from now.
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: I'm talking right now. So we need to solve it
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: as quickly as is possible. This grandiose talking crap doesn't
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: do that. Would you not agree?
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: I mean, I mean, these guys, these guys, he's not serious.
- 1:31:02Speaker 6: He didn't care then. He doesn't care now.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's like, OK, you're going to tell me, oh,
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: this is just a small amount of money that people
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: are getting back. But it's their money. You're forgetting where
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: the money came from in the first place. You took
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: it from them. You're giving a small amount of their
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: money back to them. And I agree, it's a small
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: amount of money. But at the same time, you're saying, well,
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: look at the big sacrifice we're going to have to
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: figure out on how to do budgets. Well, wait a minute.
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: You should have already been doing that.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: People's taxes are still going to go up.
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: Exactly. They're still going to benefit.
- 1:31:41Speaker 14: Austintown is still going to get more money than it
- 1:31:43Speaker 14: did the year prior. Boardman's still going to get more money.
- 1:31:47Speaker 14: All of them are going to still get more money.
- 1:31:49Speaker 14: You know, the one who impressed me was Indero, the
- 1:31:52Speaker 14: trustee in Poland. He said, well, we'll figure it out.
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: Now, Poland didn't.
- 1:31:55Speaker 14: Lose much money, probably because there's a lot less homes.
- 1:32:00Speaker 14: Getting that, I would think that's the reason. But he said, well,
- 1:32:03Speaker 14: we'll figure it out. He put his big boy pants
- 1:32:06Speaker 14: on and said, we'll.
- 1:32:07Speaker 9: Figure it out. I mean, that's why you're in these roles.
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: These guys are in these roles and get elected to
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: these roles to figure it out.
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: Let me tell you what the first thing is you
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: have to do. Are you ready? Are you sitting down,
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: boss lady?
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: I'm sitting down, Ron. I got a headache.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: I'm sorry. You have a headache. But here's the first
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: thing that you have to do. Cut spending.
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: Boom.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: All right. That's number one.
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: What a genius.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: The number one thing you have to do is cut spending.
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: It's real easy.
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: That's where you start. And then you go from there.
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: You have to cut spending. And then from there, what
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: do I owe? I will pay it. I'm not going
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: to cry. I'm paying it now. Never been late. Never
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: missed a payment. Never contested my evaluation.
- 1:32:51Speaker 14: Never went and looked up all my neighbors to see
- 1:32:53Speaker 14: what are.
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: They paying and what am I paying. Didn't do any
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: of that.
- 1:32:57Speaker 14: We've been sitting here year after year after year and
- 1:32:58Speaker 14: we're just paying and we're paying and we're paying.
- 1:33:00Speaker 6: And you know what, Ron? It's like you said two
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: years ago. It never stops.
- 1:33:05Speaker 9: Nope.
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: It will never stop.
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: Nope. I mean, it's like, you know, this woman wants
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: to say, In three years, $ 200, 000.
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: My house went up. Are you kidding me?
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: So we are spending, and she's talking about MRDD, $ 60
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: million annually.
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: They want to spend $ 100 million annually.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:33:27Speaker 6: And did you hear the guy talk? Did you watch
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: where he spoke? Because I had it transcribed for me
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: because I couldn't listen to it all. It was making
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: me sick to my stomach. He helped 4,000 people. Now,
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: that's a lot of P. Okay. 4,000 over that amount
- 1:33:45Speaker 6: of money? Somebody bust out their calculator. Are you kidding
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: me right now? That's the first thing I do is
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: I go to the mass.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Yeah. So what was the number?
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: That's a hell of a lot of money.
- 1:33:56Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: What was, how many people was it 10 years ago?
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: Is that number going up or is it going down?
- 1:34:01Speaker 14: It is going up because they're expanding because why are
- 1:34:04Speaker 14: they expanding? Because the state continues to expand and expand
- 1:34:08Speaker 14: and expand.
- 1:34:08Speaker 6: They keep taking more money. State, local, all of them combined.
- 1:34:12Speaker 6: And like we've talked about, I don't care where it is.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: Put it all into one giant pot. It's still money
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: coming out of my household.
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 1:34:19Speaker 6: Divvy it up differently. I don't care who divvies it up.
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: The state, the county, the local, they're getting a ton
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: of money, a ton of money.
- 1:34:27Speaker 14: And then the state keeps expanding and.
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: Expanding and more programs and more grants and more blah, blah, blah.
- 1:34:33Speaker 6: And their grants are a joke.
- 1:34:35Speaker 14: Matching funds and you gotta have this much money. And
- 1:34:37Speaker 14: by the way, to get this grant, you gotta hire
- 1:34:40Speaker 14: an administrator.
- 1:34:41Speaker 9: And you needed this.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: Person to do this role. And you gotta have a
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: facility that looks like this. And they put so many,
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: this is what the legislators need to focus on is
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: cutting through all that bull crap. Because that adds cost and.
- 1:34:52Speaker 14: It dwindles away our tax dollars. And so it's not
- 1:34:55Speaker 14: even dollar for dollar. it's so nauseating. And if I
- 1:35:01Speaker 14: hear one more person cry about a nonprofit, I'm over it.
- 1:35:04Speaker 14: These nonprofits do not exist. Listen, nonprofits don't exist. Say
- 1:35:07Speaker 14: with me, because they don't exist.
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: Somebody's making money. I can run it all the way
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: to the ground and blow it on things, but I
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: can also make myself a millionaire and put myself at
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: the top line and pay myself a million dollars. And
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: then there's no profit for the business. But guess who
- 1:35:20Speaker 6: did profit?
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: I did.
- 1:35:22Speaker 9: They do not exist.
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: Nonprofits do not exist. They used to exist. Not anymore.
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: They do not exist anymore. I really think you're doing
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: an excellent job fighting this battle. Stand by, please. I
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: genuinely do. I genuinely think somebody like that should be
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: a county commissioner, in my humble opinion. Let me pause
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: for just a second and talk about the good folks
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: at Stadium GM in the heart of Salem. I talk
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: about them, as I said to you numerous times, as
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: a customer because I like to share with you great
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: experiences I have in my life and make sure you
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: have them in your life. And buying a car can
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: be one of those experiences that you just come to dread,
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: whether it's new or used. Well, we don't do that
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: because we go to Stadium GM in the heart of Salem.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: We go to that dealership because everything General Motors has
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: is under one roof, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, and Chevrolet. It's
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: all under one roof. Are you looking to lease? You're
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: looking to buy. You're looking for a used vehicle, car, truck,
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: or SUV? We'll show you the Carfax reports with competitive pricing.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: It's just so refreshing to do business with a place
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: that wants your business and treats you right. From the
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: service departments to the sales departments to the selection that
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: they have, where you're not just a number. You're not
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: part of a dealership that's of a huge conglomerate. You're
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: part of this one dealership in Salem, which is just
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: the way business should be done. Stadium GM in the
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: heart of Salem. My family loves it, and I think
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: yours will as well. So when it comes time for
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: your next car, truck, or SUV, buying, leasing, used, or new,
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: make it Stadium GM in Hardison. I think you'll find
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: it refreshing. As I do the boss lady, and I'll
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: come back with her right after this. All right, back
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: to it. News Radio 570 WKB. Let me see. Don't
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: make everybody's problems my problems, is what I'm saying to you.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: And I don't think you understand that. I'm not here
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: to solve everybody's problems or pay for them all. I
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: don't think we can afford it.
- 1:37:26Speaker 13: Well, you're still picking one problem over another because you're
- 1:37:30Speaker 13: on the side of seniors before you're on the side
- 1:37:34Speaker 13: of students or children that need more DV services.
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: You're damn right I am. You're picking You're right. I'm
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: on the side of the person paying the taxes who
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: are pricing out of their home. I am most definitely
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: picking a side saying that your private property that you
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: own should not be taken from you because we've taxed
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: you out of it. You're damn right that's the side
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: I'm picking. I'm also picking the side that everybody's problems
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: aren't my problems. Everybody's problems aren't the taxpayers' problems. I, too,
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: am a parent. And I take care of my children,
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: and I will always take care of my children. And
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: guess what? That's part about being a parent. And so
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: here's the reality. There are budgets people can afford so much,
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: and that's the way it goes. So you can't just say,
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: you know, you're one of these people that say, oh,
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: I think we should do this at the state level. Well,
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: that never seems to come. So that's why I'm championing. the...
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: constitutional amendment signatures. Why don't you vote them out? Because
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: this never happens. This is a shining example of what's
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: happening in Mahoning County right now. Oh, by the way,
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: we're going to give you owner occupancy. You're going to
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: get a little bit of a refund. It's not much.
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: Better than nothing. But you're getting some of your money back. Oh,
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: and by the way, we reevaluated your house. So when
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: the dust settles, you'll be paying even more property taxes
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: than you're paying now. We're still going to end up
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: with more, and you're not going to vote for anything additional.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: You're still going to be paying more on top of
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: what you're paying because of the reevaluations.
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: Vote them out.
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: And guess what I'm doing? Sign the constitutional amendments. Sign
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: this petition. Get it there and get rid of this
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: insanity because they will never be happy until they have
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: all of your money. Period. End of story. Stop with
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: the everybody's problems is your problems. The only answer is
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: you've got to pay more. We've got to take more
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: of your money. I disagree.
- 1:39:37Speaker 9: I disagree.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: I think you're not holding this. Oh, here's the thing. Okay.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: How long do you think that's going to take before
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: they be held accountable? Okay. And do you think that
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: it's going to be solved?
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: Really?
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: Well, let me tell you the only thing I see.
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: So far, the only thing I see are the Republicans
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: trying to do something with my property taxes, whether that's
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: Dave Thomas, whether that's Tex Fisher, or the Republicans that
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: are supporting my own... Oh, bullcrap. Why don't you admit it?
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: You're just a tax and spend liberal. You don't care.
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: You think everybody's problems is my problem.
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: No, yes, you do.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: No, you... No, you want to tax me more. That's
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: what you want.
- 1:40:29Speaker 9: No, I don't.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: Yes, you do.
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: No, I don't.
- 1:40:31Speaker 14: They already have my money.
- 1:40:32Speaker 13: That's why I don't want to vote for more levies either.
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but you do, don't you?
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: The state has the money.
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: Don't you? The state has the money. You just see
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: you later. You're on the air.
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: Hey, Ron. Standing O, Ron.
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: You get an aye-aye, Captain.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: I think this is so ridiculous.
- 1:40:54Speaker 9: Oh, my God.
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: She is absolutely.
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: She's a socialist.
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: She's a socialist. And I don't like to talk about
- 1:41:01Speaker 6: other callers.
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: She is a protector. See, here's what I'm going to
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: tell all of you. These are the people that say, well,
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: we ought to be doing this down in a state.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: But that never happens. And I don't care who you
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: vote for. That never happens, which means you never get
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: any relief. These are just meaningless words. They're meaningless words
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: that absolutely mean nothing.
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: Her argument is weak at best.
- 1:41:28Speaker 14: At the end of the day, you have to start local.
- 1:41:31Speaker 14: Because local is where a lot of our property taxes.
- 1:41:34Speaker 14: And we're doing it at a state level as well, right?
- 1:41:37Speaker 14: I mean, that's the whole trying to abolish property taxes.
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: But you also have to focus local. I'm glad that
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: they doubled the homestead exemption or owner occupancy. I'm sorry.
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: But as you said very well, and the caller before said,
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: it's a small amount now. With that being said, it's
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: better than nothing because it is our money. But what
- 1:42:02Speaker 6: really impressed me was Erie County.
- 1:42:04Speaker 14: Did you see that Erie County doubled the homestead and
- 1:42:08Speaker 14: the occupancy and then refused the property tax increase? They
- 1:42:14Speaker 14: pulled every lever in their power.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Every one.
- 1:42:18Speaker 14: Now, those guys get a standing ovation. That's how you
- 1:42:23Speaker 14: lead through this mess.
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: And then one other thing.
- 1:42:28Speaker 14: That really impressed me was, I don't know if you
- 1:42:30Speaker 14: saw that Mesopotamia Fire Department, they do an ox roast.
- 1:42:36Speaker 14: They've been doing it for 50 years, and people rave
- 1:42:38Speaker 14: about it.
- 1:42:38Speaker 6: I didn't realize this. I don't even know where that's at, really.
- 1:42:43Speaker 9: But you know what they do that for?
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: They do it.
- 1:42:48Speaker 14: For equipment and training for the fire department. Now, I
- 1:42:51Speaker 14: thought that was, I mean, that's amazing.
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:42:55Speaker 14: They bring in so much money that they're able to
- 1:42:57Speaker 14: get their equipment and train their fire department. Instead of
- 1:43:01Speaker 14: going to the taxpayers, every time they want something, they
- 1:43:05Speaker 14: do this math. They get 20,000 to 30,000 people in attendance.
- 1:43:09Speaker 6: It's so huge. And I guess the aux is just incredible.
- 1:43:13Speaker 14: And the community supports them because not everything should be
- 1:43:16Speaker 14: attached to nothing. First of all, nothing, I don't think,
- 1:43:19Speaker 14: I don't believe in it, should be attached to your home.
- 1:43:23Speaker 6: You could do fundraisers. And I thought, well, why aren't
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: other people doing fundraisers of this magnitude? I mean, somebody
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: needs to call up them and try to figure out
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: what they're doing and how they started because they are
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: highly successful.
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: But there's a lot of variables there as far as
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: population and how big a department you have and calls. Sure, sure.
- 1:43:44Speaker 6: That's no joke. 30,000 people in attendance is a big deal.
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: Right, but everyone can't do that. Here's the bottom line.
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: I mean, the bottom line is you have to pay
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: for the services that you get in some fashion. I mean,
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: you want somebody to show up to plow your road
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: when it snows.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 1:44:03Speaker 9: We talked about this.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: You want a cop to show up when you need one,
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: and you want a fire department to show up. Look
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: how busy they've been the last couple with this storm.
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: And you want... These are services that you're going to
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: have to pay for as long as they don't become...
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: Wasteful spending. You've still got to monitor it. Don't misunderstand me.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: But these are services that you need, so you're going
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: to have to pay for them.
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: Look, the people who are out there trying to say
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: we don't support cops and teachers.
- 1:44:33Speaker 9: In the fire department are just stupid.
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: They're ill-informed. You support them hugely right now on your
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: property taxes.
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: We support them and I would give whatever they needed
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: to the police department. I live in an extremely safe community.
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: I fear I could leave my doors and windows open
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: all day. Probably not now since I'm announcing it on
- 1:44:54Speaker 6: your show, but it's safe. And these guys do a
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: hell of a job. And if I called, they'd be
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: here in two seconds. We will absolutely support them. The
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: problem is, is the spending has gone way out of control.
- 1:45:10Speaker 6: We don't have a money problem. We have a spending
- 1:45:12Speaker 6: and fraud problem, and they need to rein it in.
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: And until you hold people accountable, they will never stop.
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: And that Bruce Shepis, I cannot even believe. It was
- 1:45:23Speaker 6: sickening watching him go into that meeting and cry like
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: a little baby over a couple hundred thousand dollars. Now, Ron,
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: that is unbelievable when they're going to get.
- 1:45:32Speaker 14: It right back through the property tax increase. Now, what
- 1:45:36Speaker 14: kind of guts you have to go into a meeting
- 1:45:38Speaker 14: and cry about the fact that the people in your
- 1:45:41Speaker 14: community are going to get a little bit of money, $ 100,
- 1:45:45Speaker 14: maybe $ 50. Mine's only $ 150. So for the size of
- 1:45:50Speaker 14: my house, I don't know what the average size of
- 1:45:52Speaker 14: the home is in Austin Town.
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: I don't know, but it's probably on average maybe $ 70,
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: $ 80 they're going to get. A household. And he's going
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: to cry in grandstands. in a meeting and throw a
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: fit how he didn't know and why didn't they call
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: him and did he need a singing telegram to tell
- 1:46:09Speaker 6: him that people were fired up and sick of property taxes?
- 1:46:13Speaker 6: Did Shepard need somebody to knock on his door and say, hey,
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: if you have any qualms or you're concerned about anything,
- 1:46:20Speaker 6: he's known about it the entire time. Thank God he
- 1:46:23Speaker 6: did not win that primary.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: Well, it's a different philosophy, I will say that. It's
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: a much different philosophy. to basically say, I get so
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: tired of people talking and saying stuff that doesn't accomplish anything. What,
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: what is going on right now is a serious issue
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: with people today. I'm not talking five years from now.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: I'm talking right now. So we need to solve it
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: as quickly as, as, as possible. This grandiose talking crap
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: doesn't do that. Um, Would you not agree?
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: I mean, these.
- 1:47:04Speaker 9: Guys, he's not serious.
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: He didn't care then. He doesn't care now.
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, okay, you're going to tell me, oh,
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: this is just a small amount of money that people
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: are getting back. But it's their money. It's their money.
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: You're forgetting where the money came from in the first place.
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: You took it from them. You're giving a small amount
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: of their money back to them. And I agree, it's
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: a small amount of money. But at the same time,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: You're saying, well, look at the big sacrifice we're going
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: to have to figure out on how to do budgets. Well,
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: wait a minute.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: You should have already been doing that.
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: People's taxes are still going to go up.
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 1:47:43Speaker 14: They're still going to benefit. Austintown is still going to
- 1:47:46Speaker 14: get more money than it did the year prior. Boardmen
- 1:47:50Speaker 14: are still going to get more money. All of them
- 1:47:52Speaker 14: are going to still get more money. You know, the
- 1:47:54Speaker 14: one who impressed me was Indero, the trustee in Poland.
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: He said, well, we'll figure it out.
- 1:47:59Speaker 14: Now, Poland didn't lose much money. Probably because there's a
- 1:48:03Speaker 14: lot less homes getting that. I would think that's the reason.
- 1:48:07Speaker 14: But he said, well, we'll figure it out. He put
- 1:48:10Speaker 14: his big boy pants on and said, we'll figure it out.
- 1:48:13Speaker 14: I mean, that's why you're in these roles. These guys
- 1:48:15Speaker 14: are in these roles and get elected to these roles to.
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: Figure it out.
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: Let me tell you what. the first thing is you
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: have to do. Are you ready? Are you sitting down,
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: boss lady?
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: I'm sitting down, Ron.
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: I got a headache.
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: I'm sorry you have a headache. But here's the first
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: thing that you have to do. Cut spending. Boom. All right.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: That's number one.
- 1:48:34Speaker 6: What a genius.
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: The number one thing you have to do is cut spending.
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: real easy that's where you start and then you go from.
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: There spending and then from there what do i owe
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: i will pay it i'm not gonna cry i'm paying
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: it now never been late never missed a payment never
- 1:48:54Speaker 6: contested my evaluation never went and looked up all my
- 1:48:57Speaker 6: neighbors to see what are they paying and what am
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: i paying and really didn't do any of that we've
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: been sitting here year after year after year and we're
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: just paying and we're paying and we're paying and you
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: know what ron it's like you said two years ago
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: it never stops nope It will never stop.
- 1:49:11Speaker 11: Nope.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, you know, this woman wants to say.
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: In three years, $ 200, 000. My house went up. Are you
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: kidding me?
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: So we are spending, and she's talking about MRDD, $ 60
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: million annually.
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: They want to spend $ 100 million annually.
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: And did you hear the guy talk? Did you watch
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: where he spoke? Because I had it transcribed for me
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: because I couldn't listen to it all. It was making
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: me sick to my stomach. He helped 4,000 people. Now,
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: that's a lot of P. Okay. 4,000 over that amount
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: of money? Somebody bust out their calculator. Are you kidding
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: me right now? That's the first thing I do is.
- 1:49:58Speaker 9: I go to the mass.
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so what was the number of..
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: That's a hell of a lot of money.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: Yeah, what was... How many people was it 10 years ago?
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: Is that number going up or is it going down?
- 1:50:06Speaker 14: It is going up because they're expanding. Because why are
- 1:50:09Speaker 14: they expanding? Because the state continues to expand and expand
- 1:50:12Speaker 14: and expand.
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: They keep taking more money. State, local, all of them combined.
- 1:50:16Speaker 14: And like we've talked about, I don't care where it is.
- 1:50:18Speaker 14: Put it all into one giant pot. It's still money
- 1:50:21Speaker 14: coming out of my household.
- 1:50:22Speaker 6: I don't care. Divvy it up differently. I don't care
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: who divvies it up. The state, the county, the local,
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: they're getting a ton of money, a ton of money.
- 1:50:32Speaker 9: And then the state keeps expanding and.
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: Expanding and more programs and more grants and more blah, blah, blah.
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: And their grants are a joke.
- 1:50:39Speaker 14: Matching funds and you got to have this much money.
- 1:50:41Speaker 14: And oh, by the way, to get this grant, you
- 1:50:44Speaker 14: got to hire an administrator. And you needed this person
- 1:50:47Speaker 14: to do this role. And you got to have a
- 1:50:48Speaker 14: facility that looks like this.
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: This is what the legislators need to focus on is
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: cutting through all that bull crap. Because that adds cost
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: and it dwindles away our tax dollars. And so it's
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: not even dollar for dollar. it's so nauseating. And if
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: I hear one more person cry about a nonprofit, I'm
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: over it. These nonprofits do not exist. Listen, nonprofits don't exist.
- 1:51:12Speaker 6: Say with me, because they don't exist. Somebody's making money.
- 1:51:15Speaker 6: I can run it all the way to the ground
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: and blow it on things, but I can also make
- 1:51:18Speaker 6: myself a millionaire and put myself at the top line
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: and pay myself a million dollars. And then there's no
- 1:51:23Speaker 6: profit for the business. But guess who did profit?
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: I did.
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: They do not exist. Nonprofits do not exist. They used
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: to exist.
- 1:51:31Speaker 14: Not anymore.
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: They do not exist anymore.
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: I really think you're doing an excellent job fighting this battle.
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: Stand by, please. I genuinely do. I genuinely think somebody
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: like that should be a county commissioner, in my humble opinion.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: Let me pause for just a second and talk about
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: the good folks at Stadium GM in the heart of Salem.
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: I talk about them, as I said to you numerous times,
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: as a customer. Because I like to share with you
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: great experiences I have in my life and make sure
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: you have them in your life. And buying a car
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: can be one of those experiences that you just come
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: to dread, whether it's new or used. Well, we don't
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: do that because we go to Stadium GM in the
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: heart of Salem. We go to that dealership because everything
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: General Motors has is under one roof. Buick, Cadillac, GMC,
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: and Chevrolet. It's all under one roof. Are you looking
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: to lease? You're looking to buy. You're looking for a
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: used vehicle, car, truck, or SUV? We'll show you the
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: Carfax reports with competitive pricing. It's just so refreshing to
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: do business with a place that wants your business and
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: treats you right. From the service departments to the sales
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: departments to the selection that they have, where you're not
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: just a number. You're not part of a dealership that's
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: of a huge conglomerate. You're part of this one dealership
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: in Salem, which is just the way business should be done.
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: Stadium GM in the heart of Salem. My family loves it,
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: and I think yours will as well. So when it
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: comes time for your next car, truck, or SUV buying, leasing,
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: used or new, Make it Stadium GM in the heart
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: of Salem. I think you'll find it refreshing. As I
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: do the boss lady, and I'll come back with her
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: right after this. Back to it. 535 News Radio 570
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: WKBN and Ron Furb. Good to be with you here.
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: And you are on the air.
- 1:53:19Speaker 7: Hey, Ron. Glad you're alive. You survived yesterday.
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: It was really quite an experience. I mean, you didn't
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: get it quite as bad. You didn't get it that
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: bad in Girard. I checked in with my friend down there.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: But I'm telling you, it was really something in Austintown Township.
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: My power still isn't back on. I'm told that they're
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: working on it as we speak because I got a
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: text message saying, well, it'll be restored by tomorrow at
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: 11 o'clock. But I'm told they're now working on it,
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: and hopefully it'll get restored sometime today is what my
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: hope is on this. But, boy, the damage in our community, Michael.
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: I mean, the damage in Canfield, Boardman. Austintown, and it
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: is really significant. I know those of you that didn't
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: have the storm as bad as we did in this area.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: I mean, you look at trees twisted middle of the
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: way up, totally off. All the signs of tornadic activity
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: to me, and just some real, real serious devastation in
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: my neck.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: Of the woods.
- 1:54:23Speaker 7: I would agree from the pictures I saw. Hey, you know,
- 1:54:26Speaker 7: I did, I called the based on your talk about
- 1:54:30Speaker 7: taxes again. And, you know, I don't disagree with anything
- 1:54:35Speaker 7: that everybody is saying because if you don't do anything,
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: if you just spend, try to spend what you spent
- 1:54:48Speaker 7: last year, by default, the currency that you're given by
- 1:54:52Speaker 7: the federal government will get you less every year. Would
- 1:54:57Speaker 7: you agree on that?
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: Give me that one more time. Sure.
- 1:55:04Speaker 7: If you don't have to..
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: Like, the state spends..
- 1:55:07Speaker 7: I think Boss Lady said it doubled its budget, right?
- 1:55:13Speaker 7: But we're not getting twice... We're probably not getting twice
- 1:55:19Speaker 7: what we got from it. You know, because the money
- 1:55:24Speaker 7: they're given to spend is worth less because of the...
- 1:55:30Speaker 7: federal debt and interest on the debt that we're paying.
- 1:55:34Speaker 7: And like, you know, I keep saying it and I agree,
- 1:55:38Speaker 7: but everybody wants to bring it down to the lowest
- 1:55:42Speaker 7: level and beat each other up. Whose fault is it?
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: Whose fault?
- 1:55:44Speaker 7: Why, why are we, you know, you spending so much
- 1:55:47Speaker 7: more money and why do you need this money to eat?
- 1:55:50Speaker 7: You know, when I'm not making that money to eat,
- 1:55:52Speaker 7: they're doing it to all of us. And no one says,
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: no one's just, Oh.
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: Pass it again.
- 1:55:58Speaker 7: Um, Yeah, let's start another war. I don't care who
- 1:56:01Speaker 7: it is. Republicans, Democrats, they just argue as to what
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: they want to spend it on. Different. It's crazy. I mean,
- 1:56:10Speaker 7: this is really happening. And if you want to stop anything,
- 1:56:14Speaker 7: stop that. Because, you know, the evaluations, right, that go
- 1:56:20Speaker 7: up every year. Well, of course they do, because the
- 1:56:23Speaker 7: houses cost more just because the money's worth less. And
- 1:56:27Speaker 7: so if you want the same house, it's going to
- 1:56:29Speaker 7: cost you more because the rest of the world is
- 1:56:30Speaker 7: not playing our game. It's really, really bizarre. I mean,
- 1:56:38Speaker 7: if you're not going to vote for anyone, don't vote
- 1:56:41Speaker 7: for anybody that says they're going to not end the
- 1:56:45Speaker 7: federal debt. I mean, it's painful, I realize. But if
- 1:56:50Speaker 7: they're not going to do it, they're not helping. No
- 1:56:51Speaker 7: one is helping you, and they're creating all this division
- 1:56:56Speaker 7: amongst each other and us fighting each other because we're
- 1:56:58Speaker 7: not addressing the real problem. We're just, you know, that's
- 1:57:02Speaker 7: what it is.
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: I agree with you. And take a look at the
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: federal debt on how it's increasing at numbers that are
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: just unbelievable how quickly it's increasing under Trump and the Republicans.
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: Astronomical numbers on the increases. And how are you ever
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: going to pay that off?
- 1:57:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I asked AI, so how does federal debt affect
- 1:57:25Speaker 7: the cost of living for the whole country? 1. Escalating
- 1:57:29Speaker 7: borrowing costs for households. 2. Fueling inflation and eroding purchasing power. 3.
- 1:57:35Speaker 7: Stagnating wages and job growth. 4. Squeezing public services and
- 1:57:39Speaker 7: increasing taxes. That's how it all affects. By the way, Ron,
- 1:57:45Speaker 7: guess what?
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: What?
- 1:57:50Speaker 10: Um..
- 1:57:53Speaker 7: I'm going to teach AI, like, lab coding at YSU.
- 1:57:58Speaker 7: Isn't that something?
- 1:58:00Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 1:58:03Speaker 7: I'm totally serious. Yes.
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: So you're gonna so do I have to call you professor.
- 1:58:09Speaker 7: Yes yes you have to call me doctor.
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: Oh professor doctor sure oh okay okay well congratulations.
- 1:58:20Speaker 12: Yeah but yeah you know all the stuff I've been
- 1:58:24Speaker 12: doing like civic using AI to work on all the
- 1:58:28Speaker 12: civic data around us and And they're like, wow, you're
- 1:58:31Speaker 12: actually doing something that matters with this.
- 1:58:33Speaker 7: We should teach this to kids.
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: Yeah, we should. Let's do that.
- 1:58:37Speaker 7: Yeah. And, yeah.
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: So, I mean, I don't know.
- 1:58:42Speaker 7: I don't know what the future of computer science is,
- 1:58:43Speaker 7: but I'm just trying to stay afloat and figure out
- 1:58:46Speaker 7: what it is, just like everybody else. Because those techniques
- 1:58:51Speaker 7: change so quickly. And, so back to the debt. Like, please,
- 1:58:56Speaker 7: talk about that more, because I agree with everything you're saying.
- 1:58:59Speaker 6: You know, we should..
- 1:59:00Speaker 7: You should be taxed out of your home and everything.
- 1:59:02Speaker 7: But if you do nothing, it will happen because of
- 1:59:08Speaker 7: the way the government, the federal government is setting it
- 1:59:10Speaker 7: up with money. If you do nothing, just sit there,
- 1:59:17Speaker 7: you'll end up broke.
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:59:20Speaker 7: That's fundamentally a problem. Don't you agree?
- 1:59:23Speaker 2: I think we have such serious economic problems. I totally
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: agree with everything you're saying. The debt of this country
- 1:59:28Speaker 2: is so astronomical. And I don't see Republicans or Democrats
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: doing anything to try to get it in line and
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: control it by cutting spending. I mean, Thomas Massey talked
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: about ending all foreign aid, which I agree with. We
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: can't afford any of it because we are broke as
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: a nation. We are absolutely broke. And I'm afraid that
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: the answer is going to be the crap is going
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: to hit the fan and everybody's going to pay a
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: dear price, whether you're on Social Security or Medicare or
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: Medicaid or or any other programs, I think you'll pay
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: a dear price and you'll get crapped on if we
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: don't get this problem solved and solved relatively quickly. I
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: don't see anybody trying to make it a priority, as
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: you've said. Listen, I think government is totally out of control.
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: It's gotten too big, too expensive. It's created this inflation
- 2:00:18Speaker 2: that is pricing people out of their homes because they
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: won't be able to afford the property taxes. I think
- 2:00:24Speaker 2: this is an agenda-driven issue. item that's going on. I
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: don't think they want you to be able to own
- 2:00:30Speaker 2: a home. I think they want to price you out
- 2:00:32Speaker 2: of your home. And I think there's an agenda going
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: on here and you damn well better stand up and
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: fight it. I want to play you tomorrow. I hopefully
- 2:00:41Speaker 2: I'll have time to do it tomorrow. I want to
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: play you something. It runs about 20 minutes. Ron DeSantis
- 2:00:47Speaker 2: talking in Florida about property taxes. And do you know
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: in Florida, he's cut spending in Florida. four years in
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: a row. And I'm not talking about spending adjusted for inflation.
- 2:01:01Speaker 2: I'm not talking that at all. I'm talking he's cut
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: the dollar amount every year for the last four years
- 2:01:09Speaker 2: on spending in Florida. In other words, they're spending less
- 2:01:12Speaker 2: this year than they did last year. You follow what
- 2:01:15Speaker 2: I'm saying? And that year they spent less than they
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: did the year before that.
- 2:01:18Speaker 7: Yeah, you absolutely have to if you're going to keep
- 2:01:19Speaker 7: up with what I'm saying.
- 2:01:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so every year for the last four years in Florida,
- 2:01:24Speaker 2: and I'm not adjusting it for inflation, nor is he.
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: So forget any of the adjustments. He's just saying we
- 2:01:29Speaker 2: are spending less dollars in 2026 in Florida than they
- 2:01:35Speaker 2: did in 2025. You've got to hear him talk about this.
- 2:01:39Speaker 2: I'm going to play this for you hopefully yesterday. If
- 2:01:41Speaker 2: you get a chance, tune in at 3 o'clock. I
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: don't know if I'll play it at 3 or 4.
- 2:01:45Speaker 2: I've got to think about it. Hopefully maybe 3 o'clock tomorrow.
- 2:01:49Speaker 2: I want everybody to hear this. And you will hear
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: DeSantis talk for like 20 minutes on what he's going
- 2:01:57Speaker 2: to do. And I was listening to this when I
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: was off last week, and I thought, this is true leadership.
- 2:02:04Speaker 2: He believes in zero budgeting. In other words, if you've
- 2:02:08Speaker 2: got a department, you don't say, well, I got this
- 2:02:11Speaker 2: much last year, so we want 3% more.
- 2:02:13Speaker 3: No.
- 2:02:14Speaker 2: You know what you do in Florida? You start at
- 2:02:15Speaker 2: zero every year. Now you've got to tell us how
- 2:02:18Speaker 2: much you need and why you need it. You follow me?
- 2:02:21Speaker 2: Zero-based budgeting, which is how you have to do it.
- 2:02:27Speaker 2: And you'll hear him say things like, why do these
- 2:02:30Speaker 2: people think that they should get more money when we
- 2:02:32Speaker 2: have less students in the In the school system. What's
- 2:02:37Speaker 2: the thinking here? You just got to hear this. You'll
- 2:02:41Speaker 2: find it so damn refreshing. You'll say that you'll not
- 2:02:46Speaker 2: only find it refreshing, you'll realize that how intelligent a
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: man he really is. I'll just leave you with that.
- 2:02:52Speaker 7: I can't wait to hear it. I'll tune in.
- 2:02:55Speaker 4: I missed you. I missed you.
- 2:02:56Speaker 7: You were going to come back on Wednesday, and I
- 2:03:00Speaker 7: checked both days. I was worried. I was one of
- 2:03:01Speaker 7: those people that said.
- 2:03:03Speaker 2: Where's Ron? Well, first I was off until Wednesday. Let's see.
- 2:03:07Speaker 2: I was going to come back Wednesday. Then I had
- 2:03:09Speaker 2: the opportunity to take off Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And
- 2:03:14Speaker 2: I said, you know what, I really want to do that.
- 2:03:16Speaker 2: If I can sneak in and take in a week off,
- 2:03:19Speaker 2: I'm going to do that. And that's exactly what I did.
- 2:03:22Speaker 2: And I got to tell you, I really kind of
- 2:03:24Speaker 2: just laid back and enjoyed myself. You know, I'm not
- 2:03:28Speaker 2: a spring chicken anymore. You follow me? I know, you
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: said to.
- 2:03:31Speaker 7: Yourself, I don't really care if Miguel's worried about me.
- 2:03:35Speaker 2: No, I actually, actually, no.
- 2:03:38Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: No, actually, I do. See, here's the strange thing when
- 2:03:44Speaker 2: you say that. Here's the strange thing, and you'll get this. Folks,
- 2:03:49Speaker 2: I honest to God care about each and every one
- 2:03:51Speaker 2: of you. It's a very strange relationship we have. And
- 2:03:56Speaker 2: what bothers me most is what's happening to you and
- 2:04:01Speaker 2: what's happening to your adult children or your children. I mean,
- 2:04:06Speaker 2: I'm actually deeply concerned about what I'm talking about here today.
- 2:04:12Speaker 2: I am deeply concerned about property taxes, pricing elderly out
- 2:04:18Speaker 2: of their homes, making it difficult for young people to
- 2:04:21Speaker 2: buy a home, and making it difficult for working people
- 2:04:23Speaker 2: to stay in a home. I am deeply concerned about it,
- 2:04:27Speaker 2: and I am sincere when I say to everybody, they
- 2:04:29Speaker 2: are pricing you out of your home. And I believe
- 2:04:33Speaker 2: we have to fight this by signing that petition to
- 2:04:37Speaker 2: do away with to get a constitutional amendment to do
- 2:04:40Speaker 2: away with property taxes, because if we're not successful at that,
- 2:04:45Speaker 2: I believe you're destined for doom. I believe you're absolutely,
- 2:04:48Speaker 2: that it will never be enough, and you will be
- 2:04:51Speaker 2: shocked where your property taxes will go, and they will
- 2:04:55Speaker 2: price you out of your home. And I'm talking to
- 2:04:57Speaker 2: each and every one of you listening. You will be
- 2:04:59Speaker 2: priced out of your home. And is that what you want?
- 2:05:04Speaker 2: Is that the American dream? The reason, Michael, that I
- 2:05:07Speaker 2: think people are voting for this socialism stuff is because
- 2:05:11Speaker 2: they feel that they've been betrayed by the capitalist society.
- 2:05:14Speaker 2: They're working hard. They're making money. But they can't afford
- 2:05:18Speaker 2: to buy a car. They can't afford to buy a home.
- 2:05:22Speaker 2: And everything's gotten so damn expensive. And so I think
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: that's why they're voting for this stuff. And the people
- 2:05:29Speaker 2: that sit back saying... we're going to grow governments, we're
- 2:05:32Speaker 2: going to take more of your money, are creating this
- 2:05:35Speaker 2: mentality that is gaining steam out there. And it's gaining
- 2:05:38Speaker 2: a lot of steam because people are looking around saying
- 2:05:43Speaker 2: that the gap is getting too wide between the haves
- 2:05:46Speaker 2: and the have-nots. Would you agree?
- 2:05:49Speaker 7: Yeah, but the federal debt is just every bit as important.
- 2:05:53Speaker 7: And yes, they're pissed off. You know, you said hungry bellies.
- 2:05:57Speaker 7: They're getting there.
- 2:05:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:06:00Speaker 7: Hungry bellies, we're getting there.
- 2:06:02Speaker 2: Yeah, revolutions are fought on hungry bellies, as my father
- 2:06:05Speaker 2: would say. And I would remind all of you to
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: think about that, because I think we're getting too many
- 2:06:11Speaker 2: hungry bellies. We're getting too many people that are working
- 2:06:13Speaker 2: and not able to survive, not able to achieve the
- 2:06:18Speaker 2: American dream, because inflation has taken it away. Not just inflation,
- 2:06:23Speaker 2: but look at your father and the percentages he paid
- 2:06:28Speaker 2: of his income out in taxes. Now look at you
- 2:06:32Speaker 2: and the percentage you are paying. That defines the problem
- 2:06:35Speaker 2: right there. You follow me?
- 2:06:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I still think one thing that we're on. Our
- 2:06:41Speaker 7: parents had such little conveniences than we do. They survived.
- 2:06:50Speaker 7: And we claim how broke we are and everything, but seriously,
- 2:06:55Speaker 7: we have cable TV, we've got a cell phone, we've
- 2:06:57Speaker 7: got air conditioning. Those three alone add it up. There's
- 2:07:04Speaker 7: a whole lot of difference in appearance.
- 2:07:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but what I said earlier still applies to what
- 2:07:09Speaker 2: you're saying. With all due respect, John Kerry wanted you
- 2:07:14Speaker 2: to live like they do in France and in Europe.
- 2:07:17Speaker 2: John Kerry, that pompous ass, basically said we should not
- 2:07:22Speaker 2: have air conditioning. He's one of them climate change dudes.
- 2:07:26Speaker 2: We shouldn't have air conditioning. You should have a fan.
- 2:07:29Speaker 2: and to live like they are in Europe and France.
- 2:07:32Speaker 2: But wait a minute. When you look at the soccer
- 2:07:35Speaker 2: match and these people come over here, they're sitting back
- 2:07:38Speaker 2: saying air conditioning is wonderful. Why are we so backward
- 2:07:42Speaker 2: in our country that we don't have this, that we're
- 2:07:45Speaker 2: putting up with 100-degree days and humidity and more people
- 2:07:50Speaker 2: die as a result of the heat? Did you know
- 2:07:52Speaker 2: they don't have air conditioning in their hospitals So if
- 2:07:56Speaker 2: you're sick, there isn't air conditioning in their hospitals? Can
- 2:07:59Speaker 2: you imagine on a 100-degree day with humidity and you're
- 2:08:03Speaker 2: ill that there isn't air conditioning? You're not comfortable? These
- 2:08:07Speaker 2: pompous asses like John Kerry and many of these other
- 2:08:10Speaker 2: people who would have air conditioning and who would be
- 2:08:12Speaker 2: comfortable really think you shouldn't have it. Not they shouldn't
- 2:08:17Speaker 2: have it. You shouldn't have it. You should live like
- 2:08:19Speaker 2: the peasants do in France and in Europe. But they
- 2:08:22Speaker 2: come here and say, look at what we've been missing.
- 2:08:26Speaker 2: What a great country this is. They come here and
- 2:08:28Speaker 2: go to Costco, Sam's Club, Buc-ee's and say this place
- 2:08:32Speaker 2: is terrific and the air conditioning is wonderful. They go
- 2:08:36Speaker 2: back home realizing this system sucks where we're living. Right?
- 2:08:42Speaker 7: I didn't say it wasn't convenient and wonderful. I'm just
- 2:08:46Speaker 7: saying that we pay for more things than our parents
- 2:08:48Speaker 7: used to, and that adds up, too.
- 2:08:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:08:51Speaker 3: I mean, nothing comes for free.
- 2:08:53Speaker 2: I embrace the garage door opener. I embrace the dishwasher.
- 2:08:58Speaker 2: I embrace the modern washer and dryer. I embrace air conditioning.
- 2:09:04Speaker 2: I mean, all of these things have made life much better.
- 2:09:08Speaker 2: Like I said earlier in the program, I remember growing
- 2:09:11Speaker 2: up when people didn't have central air and air conditioning.
- 2:09:14Speaker 2: I grew up that way. I grew up like they
- 2:09:17Speaker 2: did in France. It sucked. It was god-awful. You couldn't
- 2:09:22Speaker 2: sleep at night. You had the fan in the window,
- 2:09:24Speaker 2: but it was still hot and humid, and it was miserable. Now,
- 2:09:28Speaker 2: not so bad.
- 2:09:29Speaker 7: We had an in-house fan, man. It used to suck
- 2:09:31Speaker 7: in all the air and suck out all the hot air,
- 2:09:34Speaker 7: and you could sleep almost every night.
- 2:09:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but you can't beat air conditioning.
- 2:09:42Speaker 7: No, I'm spoiled.
- 2:09:44Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:09:45Speaker 5: So our life.
- 2:09:49Speaker 2: Is a great country. Our lives have gotten better. And
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: the people that are coming here from other countries are
- 2:09:54Speaker 2: looking around saying, hey, AOC, hey, Elon Omar, all of
- 2:09:57Speaker 2: you people that are bitching about how terrible America is,
- 2:10:01Speaker 2: it's pretty damn nice when we come here. Thank you, Miguel.
- 2:10:04Speaker 2: Appreciate it, buddy. Congratulations.
- 2:10:06Speaker 7: Take care of yourself.
- 2:10:06Speaker 2: I'll be right back.
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: Now, Ron Verb on NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 2:10:13Speaker 2: Back to you at 535 NewsRadio 570 WKBN. Ron Verb,
- 2:10:18Speaker 2: good to be with you here. And you are on
- 2:10:22Speaker 2: the air.
- 2:10:25Speaker 7: Hey, Ron. Glad you're alive. You survived yesterday.
- 2:10:29Speaker 2: It was really quite an experience. I mean, you didn't
- 2:10:32Speaker 2: get it quite as bad. You didn't get it that
- 2:10:35Speaker 2: bad in Girard. I checked in with my friend down there.
- 2:10:38Speaker 2: But I'm telling you, it was really something in Austintown Township.
- 2:10:44Speaker 2: My power still isn't back on. I'm told that they're
- 2:10:48Speaker 2: working on it as we speak because I got a
- 2:10:50Speaker 2: text message saying, well, it'll be restored by tomorrow at
- 2:10:53Speaker 2: 11 o'clock. But I'm told they're now working on it,
- 2:10:56Speaker 2: and hopefully it'll get restored sometime today is what my–
- 2:11:00Speaker 2: what my hope is on this. But boy, the damage
- 2:11:03Speaker 2: in our community, Michael, I mean, the damage in Canfield, Boardman, Austintown,
- 2:11:09Speaker 2: it is really significant. I know those of you that
- 2:11:11Speaker 2: didn't have the storm as bad as we did in
- 2:11:14Speaker 2: this area. I mean, you look at trees twisted middle
- 2:11:16Speaker 2: of the way up, totally off. All the signs of
- 2:11:20Speaker 2: tornadic activity to me and just some real, real serious
- 2:11:24Speaker 2: devastation in my neck of the woods.
- 2:11:29Speaker 7: I would agree from the pictures I saw. I called
- 2:11:33Speaker 7: based on your talk about taxes again, and I don't
- 2:11:39Speaker 7: disagree with anything that everybody is saying, because if you
- 2:11:48Speaker 7: don't do anything, if you just try to spend what
- 2:11:53Speaker 7: you spent last year, By default, the currency that you're
- 2:11:57Speaker 7: given by the federal government will get you less every year.
- 2:12:03Speaker 3: Would you agree on that?
- 2:12:05Speaker 2: Give me that one more time.
- 2:12:08Speaker 3: Sure.
- 2:12:09Speaker 7: If you don't have to... Like, the state spends... I
- 2:12:13Speaker 7: think Boss Lady said it doubled its budget, right?
- 2:12:19Speaker 2: And..
- 2:12:21Speaker 7: We're not getting twice, we're probably not getting twice what
- 2:12:27Speaker 7: we got from it, you know, because the money they're
- 2:12:30Speaker 7: given to spend is worth less because of this federal
- 2:12:36Speaker 7: debt and interest on the debt that we're paying. And, like,
- 2:12:40Speaker 7: you know, I keep saying it, and I agree, but
- 2:12:44Speaker 7: Everybody wants to bring it down to the lowest level
- 2:12:47Speaker 7: and beat each other up. Whose fault is it? Whose fault?
- 2:12:50Speaker 3: Why?
- 2:12:51Speaker 7: Why are we, you know, you spending so much more
- 2:12:53Speaker 7: money and why do you need this money to eat?
- 2:12:56Speaker 7: You know, when I'm not making that money to eat,
- 2:12:58Speaker 7: they're doing it to all of us and no one
- 2:13:00Speaker 7: says anything. No one's just, oh, go ahead, pass it again. Yeah,
- 2:13:04Speaker 7: let's start another war. I don't care who it is. Republicans, Democrats,
- 2:13:09Speaker 7: they just argue as to what they want to spend
- 2:13:11Speaker 7: it on. Different. That's, Like, it's crazy. I mean, this
- 2:13:16Speaker 7: is really happening. And if you want to stop anything,
- 2:13:20Speaker 7: stop that. Because, you know, the evaluations, right, that go
- 2:13:26Speaker 7: up every year. Well, of course they do, because the
- 2:13:29Speaker 7: houses cost more just because the money's worth less. And
- 2:13:33Speaker 7: so if you want the same house, it's going to
- 2:13:34Speaker 7: cost you more because the rest of the world is not,
- 2:13:36Speaker 7: you know, playing our game. It's just, it's really... Really bizarre.
- 2:13:42Speaker 7: I mean, if you're not going to vote for anyone,
- 2:13:45Speaker 7: don't vote for anybody that says they're going to, like,
- 2:13:49Speaker 7: not end the federal debt. I mean, it's painful, I realize.
- 2:13:55Speaker 7: But if they're not going to do it, they're not helping.
- 2:13:57Speaker 7: No one is helping you, and they're creating all this
- 2:14:00Speaker 7: division amongst each other and us fighting each other because
- 2:14:04Speaker 7: we're not addressing the real problem. We're just, you know,
- 2:14:07Speaker 7: that's what it is.
- 2:14:09Speaker 2: I agree with you. And take a look at the
- 2:14:11Speaker 2: federal debt on how it's increasing. At numbers that are
- 2:14:15Speaker 2: just unbelievable how quickly it's increasing under Trump and the Republicans.
- 2:14:19Speaker 2: Astronomical numbers on the increases. And how are you ever
- 2:14:25Speaker 2: going to pay that off?
- 2:14:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I asked AI, I said, how does the federal
- 2:14:30Speaker 7: debt affect the cost of living for the whole country? 1.
- 2:14:34Speaker 7: Escalating borrowing costs for households. 2. Fueling inflation and eroding
- 2:14:39Speaker 7: purchasing power. 3. Stagnating wages and job growth. 4. Squeezing
- 2:14:44Speaker 7: public services and increasing taxes. That's how it all attacks.
- 2:14:50Speaker 7: By the way, Ron, guess what?
- 2:14:53Speaker 2: What?
- 2:14:57Speaker 7: I'm going to teach... AI, like vibe coding at YSU.
- 2:15:04Speaker 7: Isn't that something?
- 2:15:05Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 2:15:06Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 2:15:08Speaker 7: I'm totally serious.
- 2:15:09Speaker 2: Yes. So you're going to... Do I have to call
- 2:15:12Speaker 2: you professor?
- 2:15:14Speaker 9: Yes.
- 2:15:15Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:15:16Speaker 7: You have to call me doctor.
- 2:15:18Speaker 2: Oh, professor, doctor?
- 2:15:22Speaker 3: Sure.
- 2:15:23Speaker 2: Oh, okay. Okay. Well, congratulations.
- 2:15:26Speaker 7: Yeah, but... Yeah, you know, all the stuff I've been doing,
- 2:15:30Speaker 7: like Civics, You're using AI to work on all the
- 2:15:34Speaker 7: civic data around us. And they're like, wow, you're actually
- 2:15:37Speaker 7: doing something that matters with this. We should teach this
- 2:15:39Speaker 7: to kids.
- 2:15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, we should.
- 2:15:41Speaker 7: Let's do that.
- 2:15:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:15:43Speaker 4: And, yeah.
- 2:15:46Speaker 7: So, I mean, I don't know. I don't know what
- 2:15:48Speaker 7: the future of computer science is, but I'm just trying
- 2:15:50Speaker 7: to stay afloat and figure out what it is, just
- 2:15:52Speaker 7: like everybody else. Because things change so quickly.
- 2:15:58Speaker 9: And..
- 2:15:59Speaker 12: So back to the debt.
- 2:16:00Speaker 7: Like, please, talk about that more because I agree with
- 2:16:04Speaker 7: everything you're saying. You know, we should be taxed out
- 2:16:07Speaker 7: of your home and everything. But if you do nothing,
- 2:16:11Speaker 7: it will happen because of the way the government, the
- 2:16:15Speaker 7: federal government is setting it up with money. If you
- 2:16:18Speaker 7: do nothing, just sit there. You'll end up broke.
- 2:16:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:16:26Speaker 7: That's fundamentally a problem. Don't you agree?
- 2:16:29Speaker 2: I think we have such serious economic problems. I totally
- 2:16:32Speaker 2: agree with everything you're saying. The debt of this country
- 2:16:34Speaker 2: is so astronomical. And I don't see Republicans or Democrats
- 2:16:38Speaker 2: doing anything to try to get it in line and
- 2:16:41Speaker 2: control it by cutting spending. I mean, Thomas Massey talked
- 2:16:45Speaker 2: about ending all foreign aid, which I agree with. We
- 2:16:48Speaker 2: can't afford any of it. Because we are broke as
- 2:16:50Speaker 2: a nation. We are absolutely broke. And I'm afraid that
- 2:16:54Speaker 2: the answer is going to be the crap is going
- 2:16:55Speaker 2: to hit the fan and everybody's going to pay a
- 2:16:57Speaker 2: dear price. Whether you're on Social Security or Medicare or
- 2:17:02Speaker 2: Medicaid or any other programs, I think you'll pay a
- 2:17:06Speaker 2: dear price and you'll get crapped on if we don't
- 2:17:08Speaker 2: get this problem solved and solved relatively quickly. I don't
- 2:17:12Speaker 2: see anybody trying to make it a priority as As
- 2:17:15Speaker 2: you've said, listen, I think government is totally out of control.
- 2:17:18Speaker 2: It's gotten too big, too expensive. It's created this inflation
- 2:17:23Speaker 2: that is pricing people out of their homes because they
- 2:17:26Speaker 2: won't be able to afford the property taxes. I think
- 2:17:30Speaker 2: this is an agenda-driven item that's going on. I don't
- 2:17:33Speaker 2: think they want you to be able to own a home.
- 2:17:37Speaker 2: I think they want to price you out of your home.
- 2:17:39Speaker 2: And I think there's an agenda going on here. And
- 2:17:41Speaker 2: you damn well better stand up. And fight it. I
- 2:17:44Speaker 2: want to play you tomorrow. i hopefully i'll have time
- 2:17:47Speaker 2: to do it tomorrow i want to play you something
- 2:17:50Speaker 2: it runs about 20 minutes ron de santis talking in
- 2:17:53Speaker 2: florida about uh property taxes and do you know in
- 2:17:59Speaker 2: florida he's cut spending in florida four years in a
- 2:18:02Speaker 2: row And I'm not talking about spending adjusted for inflation.
- 2:18:07Speaker 2: I'm not talking that at all. I'm talking he's cut
- 2:18:10Speaker 2: the dollar amount every year for the last four years
- 2:18:14Speaker 2: on spending in Florida. In other words, they're spending less
- 2:18:17Speaker 2: this year than they did last year. You follow what
- 2:18:21Speaker 2: I'm saying? And that year they spent less.
- 2:18:22Speaker 3: Than a year before that.
- 2:18:23Speaker 7: Yeah, you absolutely have to if you're going to keep
- 2:18:25Speaker 7: up with what I'm saying.
- 2:18:26Speaker 2: Yeah, so every year for the last four years in Florida,
- 2:18:30Speaker 2: and I'm not adjusting it for inflation, nor is he.
- 2:18:33Speaker 2: So forget any of the adjustments. He's just saying we
- 2:18:35Speaker 2: are spending less dollars in 2026 in Florida than they
- 2:18:38Speaker 2: did in 2025. You've got to hear him talk about this.
- 2:18:45Speaker 2: I'm going to play this for you hopefully yesterday. If
- 2:18:47Speaker 2: you get a chance, tune in at 3 o'clock. I
- 2:18:49Speaker 2: don't know if I'll play it at 3 or 4.
- 2:18:51Speaker 2: I've got to think about it. Hopefully maybe 3 o'clock tomorrow.
- 2:18:55Speaker 2: I want everybody to hear this. And you will hear
- 2:18:58Speaker 2: DeSantis talk for like 20 minutes. on what he's going
- 2:19:02Speaker 2: to do, and I was listening to this when I
- 2:19:05Speaker 2: was off last week, and I thought, this is true leadership.
- 2:19:09Speaker 2: He believes in zero budgeting. In other words, if you've
- 2:19:14Speaker 2: got a department, you don't say, well, I got this
- 2:19:16Speaker 2: much last year, so we want 3% more. No, you
- 2:19:19Speaker 2: know what you do in Florida? You start at zero
- 2:19:22Speaker 2: every year. Now you've got to tell us how much
- 2:19:23Speaker 2: you need and why you need it. You follow me?
- 2:19:28Speaker 2: Zero-based budgeting. Which is how you have to do it.
- 2:19:32Speaker 2: And you'll hear him say things like, why do these
- 2:19:36Speaker 2: people think that they should get more money when we
- 2:19:38Speaker 2: have less students in the school system? What's the thinking here?
- 2:19:45Speaker 2: You just got to hear this. You'll find it so
- 2:19:47Speaker 2: damn refreshing. You'll say that you'll not only find it refreshing,
- 2:19:52Speaker 2: you'll realize that how intelligent a man he really is.
- 2:19:57Speaker 2: I'll just leave you with that.
- 2:19:58Speaker 7: I can't wait to hear it. I'll tune in. I
- 2:20:01Speaker 7: missed you.
- 2:20:01Speaker 3: I missed you.
- 2:20:03Speaker 7: You were going to come back on Wednesday, and I
- 2:20:05Speaker 7: checked both days. I was worried. I was one of
- 2:20:07Speaker 7: those people that sent out a thank you.
- 2:20:08Speaker 2: Where's Ron? Well, first I was off until Wednesday. Let's see.
- 2:20:12Speaker 2: I was going to come back Wednesday. Then I had
- 2:20:15Speaker 2: the opportunity to take off Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And
- 2:20:20Speaker 2: I said, you know what? I really want to do that.
- 2:20:22Speaker 2: If I can sneak in taking a week off, I'm
- 2:20:24Speaker 2: going to do that. And that's exactly what I did.
- 2:20:26Speaker 2: And I got to tell you, I really kind of
- 2:20:30Speaker 2: just laid back and enjoyed myself. You know, I'm not
- 2:20:34Speaker 2: a spring chicken anymore. You follow me?
- 2:20:36Speaker 7: I know you said to yourself, I don't really care
- 2:20:39Speaker 7: if Miguel's worried about me.
- 2:20:41Speaker 2: No, I actually, actually, no, I don't care. No, actually,
- 2:20:46Speaker 2: I do. See, here's the strange thing when you say that.
- 2:20:51Speaker 2: Here's the strange thing, and you'll get this. Folks, I
- 2:20:55Speaker 2: honest to God care about each and every one of you.
- 2:20:58Speaker 2: It's a very strange relationship we have. And what bothers
- 2:21:03Speaker 2: me most is what's happening to you and what's happening
- 2:21:08Speaker 2: to your adult children or your children that, I mean,
- 2:21:12Speaker 2: I'm actually deeply concerned about what I'm talking about here today.
- 2:21:17Speaker 2: I am deeply concerned about property taxes, pricing elderly out
- 2:21:24Speaker 2: of their homes, making it difficult for young people to
- 2:21:26Speaker 2: buy a home, and making it difficult for working people
- 2:21:29Speaker 2: to stay in a home. I am deeply concerned about it,
- 2:21:33Speaker 2: and I am sincere when I say to everybody, they
- 2:21:35Speaker 2: are pricing you out of your home. And I believe
- 2:21:38Speaker 2: we have to fight this by signing that petition to
- 2:21:43Speaker 2: do away with to get a constitutional amendment to do
- 2:21:46Speaker 2: away with property taxes, because if we're not successful at that,
- 2:21:50Speaker 2: I believe you're destined for doom. I believe you're absolutely,
- 2:21:54Speaker 2: that it will never be enough, and you will be
- 2:21:57Speaker 2: shocked where your property taxes will go, and they will
- 2:22:00Speaker 2: price you out of your home. And I'm talking to
- 2:22:03Speaker 2: each and every one of you listening. You will be
- 2:22:04Speaker 2: priced out of your home. And is that what you want?
- 2:22:09Speaker 2: Is that the American dream? The reason, Michael, that I
- 2:22:13Speaker 2: think people are voting for this socialism stuff is because
- 2:22:17Speaker 2: they feel that they've been betrayed by the capitalist society.
- 2:22:20Speaker 2: They're working hard. They're making money. But they can't afford
- 2:22:23Speaker 2: to buy a car. They can't afford to buy a home.
- 2:22:28Speaker 2: And everything's gotten so damn expensive. And so I think
- 2:22:31Speaker 2: that's why they're voting for this stuff. And the people
- 2:22:34Speaker 2: that sit back saying... we're going to grow governments, we're
- 2:22:38Speaker 2: going to take more of your money, are creating this
- 2:22:40Speaker 2: mentality that is gaining steam out there. And it's gaining
- 2:22:44Speaker 2: a lot of steam because people are looking around saying
- 2:22:48Speaker 2: the gap is getting too wide between the haves and
- 2:22:51Speaker 2: the have-nots. Would you agree?
- 2:22:55Speaker 7: Yeah, but the federal debt is just every bit as important. And, yes,
- 2:22:59Speaker 7: they're pissed off. You know, you said hungry bellies. They're
- 2:23:02Speaker 7: getting there.
- 2:23:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:23:05Speaker 7: Hungry bellies, we're getting there.
- 2:23:07Speaker 2: Yeah, revolutions are fought on hungry bellies, as my father
- 2:23:11Speaker 2: would say. And I would remind all of you to
- 2:23:13Speaker 2: think about that, because I think we're getting too many
- 2:23:16Speaker 2: hungry bellies. We're getting too many people that are working
- 2:23:19Speaker 2: and not able to survive, not able to achieve the
- 2:23:23Speaker 2: American dream, because inflation has taken it away. Not just inflation,
- 2:23:28Speaker 2: but look at your father and the percentages he paid
- 2:23:33Speaker 2: of his income out in taxes. Now look at you
- 2:23:38Speaker 2: and the percentage you are paying. That defines the problem
- 2:23:41Speaker 2: right there. You follow me?
- 2:23:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I still think one thing that we're on. Our
- 2:23:47Speaker 7: parents had such little conveniences than we do. They survived.
- 2:23:56Speaker 7: And we claim how broke we are and everything, but seriously,
- 2:24:01Speaker 7: we have cable TV, we've got a cell phone, we've
- 2:24:03Speaker 7: got air conditioning. Those three alone added up. There's a
- 2:24:09Speaker 7: whole lot of difference in appearance.
- 2:24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but what I said earlier still applies to what
- 2:24:14Speaker 2: you're saying. With all due respect, John Kerry wanted you
- 2:24:20Speaker 2: to live like they do in France and in Europe.
- 2:24:23Speaker 2: John Kerry, that pompous ass, basically said we should not
- 2:24:28Speaker 2: have air conditioning. He's one of them climate change dudes.
- 2:24:32Speaker 2: We shouldn't have air conditioning. You should have a fan.
- 2:24:35Speaker 2: and to live like they are in Europe and France.
- 2:24:38Speaker 2: But wait a minute. When you look at the soccer
- 2:24:41Speaker 2: match and these people come over here, they're sitting back
- 2:24:44Speaker 2: saying air conditioning is wonderful. Why are we so backward
- 2:24:48Speaker 2: in our country that we don't have this, that we're
- 2:24:50Speaker 2: putting up with 100-degree days and humidity and more people
- 2:24:56Speaker 2: die as a result of the heat? Did you know
- 2:24:58Speaker 2: they don't have air conditioning in their hospitals? So if
- 2:25:01Speaker 2: you're sick, there isn't air conditioning in our hospitals. Can
- 2:25:05Speaker 2: you imagine on a 100-degree day with humidity and you're
- 2:25:09Speaker 2: ill that there isn't air conditioning? You're not comfortable? These
- 2:25:13Speaker 2: pompous asses like John Kerry and many of these other
- 2:25:15Speaker 2: people who would have air conditioning and who would be
- 2:25:18Speaker 2: comfortable really think you shouldn't have it. Not they shouldn't
- 2:25:22Speaker 2: have it. You shouldn't have it. You should live like
- 2:25:25Speaker 2: the peasants do in France and in Europe. But they
- 2:25:28Speaker 2: come here and say, Look at what we've been missing.
- 2:25:31Speaker 2: What a great country this is. They come here and
- 2:25:34Speaker 2: go to Costco, Sam's Club, Buc-ee's, and say this place
- 2:25:38Speaker 2: is terrific, and the air conditioning is wonderful. They go
- 2:25:42Speaker 2: back home realizing this system sucks where we're living. Right?
- 2:25:48Speaker 7: I didn't say it wasn't convenient and wonderful. I'm just
- 2:25:51Speaker 7: saying that we pay for more things than our parents
- 2:25:54Speaker 7: used to, and that adds up, too.
- 2:25:56Speaker 2: Right. I mean, nothing comes for free. I embrace the
- 2:26:00Speaker 2: garage door opener. I embrace the dishwasher. I embrace the
- 2:26:05Speaker 2: modern washer and dryer. I embrace air conditioning. I mean,
- 2:26:11Speaker 2: all of these things have made life much better. Like
- 2:26:14Speaker 2: I said earlier in the program, I remember growing up
- 2:26:17Speaker 2: when people didn't have central air and air conditioning. I
- 2:26:20Speaker 2: grew up that way. I grew up like they did
- 2:26:23Speaker 2: in France. It sucked. It was god-awful. You couldn't sleep
- 2:26:28Speaker 2: at night. You had the fan in the window, but
- 2:26:30Speaker 2: it was still hot and humid, and it was miserable. Now,
- 2:26:34Speaker 2: not so bad.
- 2:26:34Speaker 7: We had an in-house fan, man. It used to suck
- 2:26:37Speaker 7: in all the air and suck out all the hot air,
- 2:26:39Speaker 7: and you could sleep almost every night.
- 2:26:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but you can't beat air conditioning.
- 2:26:47Speaker 7: No, I'm spoiled.
- 2:26:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:26:51Speaker 2: So our life is... This is a great country. Our
- 2:26:56Speaker 2: lives have gotten better. And the people that are coming
- 2:26:58Speaker 2: here from other countries are looking around saying, Hey, AOC. Hey,
- 2:27:02Speaker 2: Elon Omar. All of you people that are bitching about
- 2:27:04Speaker 2: how terrible America is, it's pretty damn nice when we
- 2:27:08Speaker 2: come here. Thank you, Miguel. Appreciate it, buddy. Congratulations. Take
- 2:27:12Speaker 2: care of yourself. I'll be right back.
- 2:27:13Speaker 1: I Heart Radio.
- 2:27:18Speaker 7: Hey, is your roof leaking?
