- 0:00Speaker 1: We're worth it until the top of the hour, and
- 0:01Speaker 1: then of course for the folks here we've got an
- 0:03Speaker 1: after show with coach. She's having an animated conversation with
- 0:06Speaker 1: his sports information director and Lebonti. Gino's a big hockey fan.
- 0:10Speaker 1: By the way, we're back on the radio with Hockey Friday,
- 0:12Speaker 1: UMass Lowell Downtown six forty five on the radio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: If you've not been to a Yukon men's.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hockey game, or women's game for that matter, go We've
- 0:20Speaker 1: got four teams ranks. Let's see, women are top ranked,
- 0:25Speaker 1: men are fourth, women's hockey is fifth, and men's hockey
- 0:30Speaker 1: is eleventh in the country.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Great, great winter and stores Connecticut. Great to be a
- 0:37Speaker 3: Husky so where Megars go. Not great to be a
- 0:40Speaker 3: Boston College fan. Megers get out. They stink at everything.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Hockey.
- 0:47Speaker 3: So so this year for them, I know, I mean.
- 0:50Speaker 2: No, actually they're not.
- 0:51Speaker 1: They're second, Yukon's first, and Hockey East the men's teams first,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and Hockey East by like a point over BC.
- 0:56Speaker 3: No. I mean BC is such a great school and
- 0:58Speaker 3: they have such a great tradition and basketball, football, hockey.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I think they won the ACC and baseball two years ago.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I think they have a.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Great got a regular season or tournament, yeah yeah, one
- 1:11Speaker 1: of those two.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they got great lacrosse program. It's just,
- 1:18Speaker 3: you know, the move to the ACC was probably, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 3: not a great one for them other than financially, because
- 1:28Speaker 3: you know, they've not had the level of success in
- 1:32Speaker 3: the ACC that they were having in the Big East
- 1:34Speaker 3: on a regular basis. And that's it. That's you know,
- 1:37Speaker 3: that's a chance you take, you know, and the whole
- 1:41Speaker 3: conference real alignment.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Thing, easy fudd. Let's discuss your young lady from Arlington.
- 1:47Speaker 1: She is about to pass Morgan Tuck and Laura Leishness
- 1:50Speaker 1: on the All Times scoring list. She's trying around thirteen
- 1:53Speaker 1: hundred points for her career thirty five steels no.
- 1:57Speaker 3: For only playing thirty games. That's a hell of a
- 2:02Speaker 3: lot of points for only playing third.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I mean the kids, the kid's been hurt. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:08Speaker 3: she's had the worst luck of anybody in Connecticut since
- 2:12Speaker 3: Shay Ralph in terms of how many things could happen
- 2:16Speaker 3: to you to cost you games. So it's remarkable that
- 2:21Speaker 3: here she is right now, you know, looking the way
- 2:25Speaker 3: she looks and playing the way she's playing. You would
- 2:28Speaker 3: never know that, you know, you know, Ashton Shade and
- 2:34Speaker 3: k k Arner have played a lot more games than
- 2:37Speaker 3: Asy fund.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I believe you sure about that. I don't think maybe
- 2:41Speaker 2: not wrong, but I mean, I mean.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Let's see he's been here five years.
- 2:45Speaker 1: All right, let's see here, Ashes played ninety three. Okay,
- 2:51Speaker 1: Kk's played ninety three because I missed the game.
- 2:55Speaker 2: All right, let's go find thirty five. Wow.
- 2:58Speaker 1: As he's played ninety one. Wow?
- 3:03Speaker 3: How many they played?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Those other two have played ninety three? A'si's played ninety one. Wow.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I told you they played more games than than as well.
- 3:11Speaker 3: You remember, and Asy's been here five years. That's how
- 3:13Speaker 3: bad the bad luck that this game has had. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 3: and now you know you watch her and it's like,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, you would think like, well, nothing ever, you know,
- 3:23Speaker 3: nothing ever happened.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Then No, she's got guns.
- 3:26Speaker 1: By the way, you know, I clearly Page has been
- 3:30Speaker 1: working out. I mean, she's got guns. Now who page
- 3:34Speaker 1: for Unrivaled. She's she's got some arc she's got some
- 3:37Speaker 1: strong arms. Now she had what you have twenty four
- 3:39Speaker 1: last night in the first Unrivaled game.
- 3:41Speaker 3: You can't have twenty four. They don't go up to
- 3:43Speaker 3: twenty four? Do they how many? How many points did
- 3:46Speaker 3: they go up to as many as she had twenty?
- 3:49Speaker 3: Didn't they lose their first game?
- 3:52Speaker 2: No? I think they won.
- 3:52Speaker 3: They won, They're undefeated.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it was their first game.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Oh, their first Day've only played one.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Only one game, only one game?
- 3:58Speaker 1: All right, back to easy though for a minute here.
- 4:01Speaker 1: She's really good what impresses me most. And she's always
- 4:04Speaker 1: been a good positional defender, keeping her player in front
- 4:07Speaker 1: of her. But now, obviously she's taken more chances since
- 4:10Speaker 1: the start of the NCAA tournament last year, she's gotten
- 4:13Speaker 1: a lot more aggressive defensively. And then, you know, having
- 4:16Speaker 1: talked to her, she said, well, I don't want to
- 4:17Speaker 1: you know, lose my player taking a chance and then
- 4:19Speaker 1: somebody having to bail me out. Well, now she's got
- 4:22Speaker 1: you know, she's taken those chances, and you can see
- 4:25Speaker 1: the payoff most of the time.
- 4:27Speaker 3: You know what she's gotten really really really good at.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I don't know if you notice it. I mean, I
- 4:35Speaker 3: guess these people send me stuff. You know, Hey, did
- 4:38Speaker 3: you read this? I'm like, so, if you're probably on
- 4:41Speaker 3: the boneyard, you probably already coached this team to one
- 4:44Speaker 3: hundred and fifty wins in a row, So I get that.
- 4:47Speaker 3: But there's something that she does that's really incredible to
- 4:52Speaker 3: be able to do, which is so good defensively, is
- 4:55Speaker 3: when she's guarding her man, okay, and her you know,
- 5:00Speaker 3: she's guarding her man right here, and somebody's guarding their
- 5:03Speaker 3: man here, and they drive it into that gap between
- 5:07Speaker 3: her man and you know, the basket. She's been as
- 5:13Speaker 3: good as anybody we've had ever at getting her hands
- 5:17Speaker 3: in there and getting herself into the mix without necessarily
- 5:23Speaker 3: losing her man. Like that's how she got she got
- 5:27Speaker 3: the kid for a while, the one time in the
- 5:29Speaker 3: Ncity Tournament. Yeah, you know, you know, because you beat
- 5:32Speaker 3: your man, you're not thinking somebody's going to be there.
- 5:35Speaker 3: But for her, like, whenever there's an opportunity, she's got
- 5:38Speaker 3: her hands in there a lot. And you know, she's
- 5:40Speaker 3: gotten a lot of turnovers and gotten us a lot
- 5:43Speaker 3: of possessions. And that's something she would never ever do
- 5:46Speaker 3: as a freshman or a sophomore, that she would never
- 5:49Speaker 3: take that kind of risk of, you know, get in there.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Maybe you know. So, I think she's just a lot
- 5:55Speaker 3: very very very confident kid right now.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and the number is shut.
- 5:58Speaker 1: All right, We'll take another break and back with Gino
- 6:01Speaker 1: in a minute here on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches
- 6:03Speaker 1: Show here on Learfield
