Winter’s hitting the West Coast hard — a major storm’s parked over the South Island, dumping relentless rain and heavy snow, especially inland, with conditions expected to linger through Wednesday into Thursday. MetService has escalated alerts: Grey District and Buller face orange-level heavy rain warnings with up to 90mm in 12 hours, while Westland could see as much as 450mm in mountains and 200mm near the coast.
