Transcript
- 0:00Hey, guys. Welcome back to Josh and the
- 0:01Giant. My name is Jairus.
- 0:04What is that? Welcome back.
- 0:05What does that say? Let me see that.
- 0:07The Lord's giant loves Israel. That's all right.
- 0:10And it's a picture of you. Give me that, Israel.
- 0:18Yeah, guys, welcome back. Yeah, if you couldn't tell, just
- 0:21made some sick new merch. This is our our first job.
- 0:24What are you talking about? I think it's pretty cool.
- 0:26That's not on the website. It's pretty sheet, Josh, isn't
- 0:28it on the website? This is on the website without
- 0:31Ben no. Matt, did you know about this?
- 0:34I can either hear, confirm or deny.
- 0:36All right. But that's, yeah, that's not
- 0:38fair. That doesn't really help
- 0:39anything at all. But you know what?
- 0:41That's very frustrating. You know what else is
- 0:42frustrating? Don't do that.
- 0:46It's a joke. There's nothing in there
- 0:50roasted. Dude, that's a really good joke.
- 0:52I know somebody that likes Interstellar now.
- 0:55Anyway, back to the podcast. This week on Threads.
- 0:59This week on Threads. Threads.
- 1:02Nice, that's actually a music drop.
- 1:04We should just. Dude, let's clip that.
- 1:06Let's clip that. Your threads threads.
- 1:10Anyway, this week on threads. Did you guys know?
- 1:15Wait, wait, wait a minute. Hold up.
- 1:18OK, hold up. Son of a gun.
- 1:21I hate threads. I hate this Dang app so much.
- 1:25This is awful. Hey guys, I'm just here to
- 1:27remind you that the Ku Klux Klan is a Christian organization.
- 1:32Guess how many likes that has? If it's If it's more than 10
- 1:38then I'm upset and I know it's more than 10.
- 1:40Oh my gosh. 23.6000 likes 1000 Comments I was one of those
- 1:44comments and I said and I want to hear your guys's thoughts.
- 1:46I want to hear your thoughts about this too.
- 1:48If I as a white man simply say that I'm a black man, am I now a
- 1:52black man? Your answer to that question is
- 1:54the exact same answer to Is the KKK a Christian organization?
- 1:59You pose a great question. Yeah, thank you.
- 2:02I'm having to Google something. That's all right.
- 2:04Now look, here's the thing. And I got into a back and forth,
- 2:06God bless this other content creator I was going back and
- 2:11forth with on threads. Her name is April, April Joy,
- 2:14maybe April. And I think we had a fairly like
- 2:18a, a kind back and forth. Yeah, I was simply trying to
- 2:20make the point. And again, I want to hear your
- 2:22guys's thoughts about this. There has to be something more
- 2:26than simply saying I'm a Christian to validate you
- 2:30actually being a Christian. Now, I want to also make it
- 2:32clear, I'm not talking about salvation because I think people
- 2:35like people that we can like without knowing that they're a
- 2:38Christian. They can be saved, sure.
- 2:41But whenever it comes to who we can identify as a Christian.
- 2:44And I think the Scripture backs us up too.
- 2:46Like there's things you have to both do and believe.
- 2:50And that's why I think it comes down to A2 prong thing.
- 2:52You're a doctrine and your actions.
- 2:55And I think whenever we go to someone like the Dang, the fact
- 2:57that we even have to say this, but like the Klan, the Klu Klux
- 3:01Klan, bad people, bad people. Disavow.
- 3:04I want to be the first to say we are maybe the first podcast ever
- 3:07to publicly disavow the Ku Klux. Klan.
- 3:10Ku Klux Klan or bad. Not cool, Matt.
- 3:13No, don't do that, Matt. Cut his mic.
- 3:16You have all cut his mic. Goodness gracious, Matt anyway,
- 3:20not the time mad anyway. Goodness gracious, I I got all
- 3:24bunched up about that and I wasn't getting like mad that
- 3:26somebody would dare disagree with me or have a different
- 3:28thought. But just the idea that like I
- 3:31had to be on threads. Can you not have can you put the
- 3:34sunglasses on whenever we talk about the movie?
- 3:36Yeah, yeah, you're right. Because I because I get nothing
- 3:38out of that. Thank you and the hat.
- 3:41Oh my gosh. Anyway, what does the hat say?
- 3:43Huh. What does it say?
- 3:44Mormons. Moments, moments, moments,
- 3:48moments. No.
- 3:48But to your point, we're talking about this earlier.
- 3:51Yeah. It's I, I, I think it's really
- 3:54lazy to just be like, hey, this person or group historically
- 3:58that's awful. And like attributing them to
- 4:00like, whatever group that you disagree with, like, and, and
- 4:04the same thing. I I've heard people trying to do
- 4:05it with Hitler. You know, Hitler was a
- 4:07Christian. Was he?
- 4:08Yeah. Really.
- 4:09She actually says that too. I read.
- 4:11I read her thing further in. That, well, she made the point.
- 4:15German people follow and said that they were also.
- 4:18Right and then she's also like, oh, are you also going to say
- 4:22that like the the Confederate S who you and I'm like, yeah, I
- 4:26can I can say that. I can say people who twist and
- 4:29misuse and abuse scripture and totally take it out of the out
- 4:32of context. And it's actually so easy to
- 4:35say. And what's weird is people will
- 4:38and I know this is a comedy podcast.
- 4:40OK, at least two degrees. Well, we're not laughing.
- 4:42We're not laughing. We're not good.
- 4:44You know what? I.
- 4:44Tell you what. This is about my Lord and
- 4:46Savior, but also legitimately because these same people will
- 4:49then also say, well, that actually does a lot of harm to
- 4:51the body. If you ignore the harm that
- 4:53people have done in the name of Christ.
- 4:55I'm not doing that. People have done horrific things
- 4:57in the name of Christ. It also does harm to the body
- 5:00Whenever you just cast a wide net and go we just anybody that
- 5:03says they're a Christian is a Christian.
- 5:05No, because then you go back to exactly what I was telling you
- 5:08about earlier, where for anybody that's read Mere Christianity by
- 5:11CS Lewis, he talks about, I believe even in the Dang
- 5:14prelude, which CS Lewis is so much smarter than I'll ever be,
- 5:18that in like his. Preludes he was dropping.
- 5:20He probably liked Interstellar. He Do you think CS Lewis liked
- 5:23Interstellar because it was out? He was.
- 5:26He was still alive. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:29That's how and that's how you know math.
- 5:32Josh is really smart. He does his math like this Big
- 5:34Mac, Big Mac. Anyway, no, but he was just
- 5:37talking about how even during his time, things like the word
- 5:40Christian were already starting to lose their definition.
- 5:42And he was comparing it to the to the word gentleman.
- 5:44Because at a certain point in time, and I'm probably botching
- 5:46this, but a gentleman literally meant somebody who was like from
- 5:49a certain kind of family and owned a certain amount of land,
- 5:51right? And then even by his point in
- 5:54time, gentleman started to basically mean just a nice guy.
- 5:58And that is basically what it means now, gentleman has
- 6:00completely lost its original definition.
- 6:02And whenever we do this with the with the word Christian, we're
- 6:06doing the exact same thing. We're doing the exact same thing
- 6:08that great minds like CS Lewis were warning us about of like
- 6:12you have to safeguard these things.
- 6:14You have to have definitions for words.
- 6:16Otherwise people will just Co opt words.
- 6:18And in the same way that some people have done and like done
- 6:22terrible things in the name of Christ, people then believe them
- 6:26essentially, they they take them at their word and then it does
- 6:29damage to the name of Christ because people go, oh, this is
- 6:32what a Christian is. And it is is on us, I think
- 6:35genuinely to go, no, that's not what a Christian is like.
- 6:38Like not, not only are they like, oh, they're a bad
- 6:41Christian, they're not Christian.
- 6:42In general. In general.
- 6:44It's like when I was in college, I remember I, I didn't run
- 6:47track, just to be clear, but I had some friends who me neither
- 6:49the track team really. Don't laugh, Don't laugh so
- 6:54hard. He laughed.
- 6:55Sorry, go ahead. So I didn't run track.
- 6:57I had some friends that ran track and I remember I'm, I'm at
- 7:01Fuzzy's Tacos, which great margaritas with some friends.
- 7:05And there was a guy who had like just come to SFA and he was like
- 7:10posting on Instagram kind of. And he was always with the track
- 7:13team, but he was acting like he was on the team.
- 7:16Yeah. OK.
- 7:18So I asked my friend Carrie. I'm like, yo, what's up with
- 7:21this guy? Like, what is he Ron?
- 7:22Is he good? And he literally goes, Oh my
- 7:24gosh. He's like, dude, this guy tried
- 7:27out for the track team, didn't make it because he sucked.
- 7:31But then they were like, hey, you can be the manager and like
- 7:34haul around the gear and stuff. And the guy said yes, but he was
- 7:38like the only person from his area to come to our college.
- 7:41So he would post on his Instagram like he was on the
- 7:44track team. Incredible.
- 7:46So in the same sense, it's like there is a standard for being on
- 7:51the track team, for being a Christian.
- 7:52And you know what? We get to be kind of annoyed
- 7:54whenever someone's like, you know, the Klan, for example,
- 7:58hey, they were Christian. No, they weren't, right?
- 8:00This guy's not on our track. No they weren't, and no they
- 8:01aren't sorry. I think that bugged me about her
- 8:03response to you was I'm reading it right now.
- 8:06In her paragraph she says they obviously aren't following
- 8:10Christ, but they are still Christian.
- 8:11Because look, I. Not how that works.
- 8:14That's not how that works. Oh my goodness.
- 8:15I think whenever you have two symbol, a definition, you can
- 8:17fall into error, right? But even if we take what does a
- 8:21Christian mean? Who is a Christian?
- 8:23At the simplest definition, then, by her own admission,
- 8:27they're not Christian. That doesn't mean we then have
- 8:30to ignore all the bad things they've done.
- 8:32That doesn't mean that we shouldn't do something about
- 8:35people who are doing bad things in the name of Christ.
- 8:37But we can take a moment and go, hey, they're not Christian. 100
- 8:41years from now, someone's going to get on threads.
- 8:43What? Because it's still going to be a
- 8:44thing. Obviously, threads will love the
- 8:46world. And they're going to say that
- 8:47like you were Muslim. That's what the Muslims do.
- 8:52Again, I don't this episode is demolished.
- 8:54I'd get out, opened up some worms.
- 8:56No, but that's what the Muslims do, by the way.
- 8:58That's how they're able to say that Jesus was a Muslim.
- 9:00Because they change dead, bro. They changed the definition.
- 9:04Was our best prophet he didn't get here to like cheery law, but
- 9:08like. He was a Muslim, hey, but no,
- 9:10because they say a Muslim is anybody.
- 9:12I, I think Matt, can you Google this?
- 9:14They say a Muslim is anybody who, like, submits his will to
- 9:18God. So that's how they can
- 9:20retroactively like, like literally what you're saying,
- 9:22they can retroactively go, yeah, Jesus was a Muslim because he
- 9:25submitted himself to Allah. And you're like, no.
- 9:29It was chill that we flew the planes to this one towers.
- 9:31Yeah, the Quran specifically states it as one who submits or
- 9:35surrenders, I think to Allah, which they again is 11 God.
- 9:40Yes. So they say that Christ
- 9:42submitted to one God, Moses submitted to one God.
- 9:45Yep. So they're all Muslims?
- 9:47Do we think is it Allah or Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah?
- 9:50I don't. Think it matters too much?
- 9:52That's also a weird. Thing he was really behind like
- 9:55911 do we think Allah was really like yeah you guys need to go
- 9:58and. Well, I think there's a lot of
- 10:00stuff if we want to get into the whole really the George Bush,
- 10:04yeah. He told George Bush to put
- 10:06those. Bombs.
- 10:07I think the other day I posted a video where I said a lot of the
- 10:10times I think we give the devil a day off because we just
- 10:12attribute a lot of things to the devil and we're just at fault
- 10:15for a lot of things. I think a lot of stuff like 911,
- 10:17we don't really need the devil for.
- 10:19Yeah, Now look. Satan's like Dang, I didn't
- 10:21even. For any of the hyper hyper
- 10:24whatever Christians, I'm not saying the devil doesn't exist
- 10:27or that he isn't behind spiritual warfare.
- 10:28I'm simply saying I think a lot of the times humans are evil
- 10:31enough. Also, can we just acknowledge
- 10:33this too, since we're on this topic?
- 10:34Yeah, Satan is a finite being. Like Satan is not everywhere all
- 10:40at once. He's like in one spot, like he
- 10:43may have like demons working for him and stuff.
- 10:45But when I see Sharon, who she's just had a tough day, you know,
- 10:50because she she dropped her coffee and then she was late
- 10:53for, you know, work and what? And she's like, oh, Satan's
- 10:56really. Satan's not near you right now.
- 10:59Like Satan is in probably the Middle East tormenting people.
- 11:04And you know that man, there's actually a very interesting
- 11:07talking point that I don't think like.
- 11:09I don't know. I'm not qualified to speak on
- 11:10this. I'm well, here's neither am I,
- 11:12but I think I think there has to be some sort of addendum to
- 11:15that. Like Satan is not God, right?
- 11:19He's not omnipresent and he's certainly not omnipotent, but
- 11:23there is with the angels like with the like cosmic beings,
- 11:28there is something where where it's beyond because I do think
- 11:32to some degree Satan is at fault for much, well, not much for all
- 11:36of the spiritual warfare that goes.
- 11:37On Oh, for sure, right, like his influence in the like in art and
- 11:41whatever, but like when someone's like, oh, Satan's
- 11:43really, it's like, no, Satan was not present for you.
- 11:46You know, you're you're car getting a flat tire.
- 11:49Like I hate to be the Bureau of bad news.
- 11:50Like just stuff happens sometimes.
- 11:52But what? But wouldn't they also be right
- 11:53in the same way that like, if I if I drive down the same road
- 11:57for five years and the city never fixes that horrible
- 12:00pothole, I'm like this damn city.
- 12:02It's really like they because they are at fault, right?
- 12:06Yeah, but it's also like, I thought, you're about to say it
- 12:08was Satan's fault at the pothole.
- 12:10Well, there we go. I mean Satan.
- 12:12Who? Runs our city, hey.
- 12:13Bro we're not. We don't battle against flesh
- 12:15and blood. Anyway, that's what anyway,
- 12:18going on the point this week on thread the clan.
- 12:21The clan are Christian and I don't care.
- 12:24And look, I am also, I'm, I'm cognizant of the fact that there
- 12:27can be distinctions. Obviously we, we're all, and
- 12:32anybody who's aware enough can go, yeah, they call themselves a
- 12:35Christian organization. They might even be classified as
- 12:37a Christian organization because of ABC or D, right?
- 12:40I don't give a damn because they're not at their root and at
- 12:43their core actually Christian. Again, in the same way some,
- 12:48because I have Muslim followers, they'll DM me sometimes they,
- 12:51they might say, hey, man, I think you're, you're a real
- 12:54Muslim because, OK, cool. I'm not, I'm a Christian, but
- 12:58you can call me that. We can say whatever as long as
- 13:01you and I can look each other in the eye and have the logical
- 13:06understanding that they're not. And whenever someone like and
- 13:09again, I also I want to double down and say April and eyes back
- 13:11and forth. I think was very amicable.
- 13:13There was nobody like calling names, none of that.
- 13:16There was a little bit she frustrated me and Matt went
- 13:18through it. The true the No True Scotsman
- 13:20thing is thrown out too much and it's not applicable in
- 13:23situations like this or. A lot of others, I feel like
- 13:24people that aren't good at having dialogue on the Internet
- 13:27just claim like one of the five debate things of like, oh, you
- 13:31know, that's that's a No true Scotsman fallacy.
- 13:34That's a this fallacy, that's a hearing fallacy that yeah, just
- 13:37talk like a human. Well, and also it's like.
- 13:39Having a debate right now, just talk like a person.
- 13:41Also, if you're going to use it like I I have no problem if
- 13:44you're going to use it and it's right, yeah.
- 13:46But if you're just going to go, that's a no true Scotsman.
- 13:48No, it's not. It's like literally I was having
- 13:51this thought while I was messaging her or I was going
- 13:53back and forth on threads. I was like, yeah, but at a
- 13:55certain point in African isn't a Scotsman, right?
- 13:58Like somebody in Africa is not also.
- 14:00Scotsman there is at at the core of everything is objective
- 14:03truth, right? Like either there's truth or
- 14:05there's not. Right.
- 14:05And the No True Scotsman thing, nowhere is about like, oh,
- 14:09anybody who puts any parameters. No, it's if you like change
- 14:12something like just Willy nilly of your own accord because you
- 14:16don't like AB or nobody's doing that.
- 14:18But anyway, if anybody's interested on the No True
- 14:20Scotsman thing, Dan McClellan and Mike Jones Inspiring
- 14:23Philosophy had a wonderful back and forth.
- 14:25What's up guys? We're going to get right back to
- 14:27the podcast, but wanted to stop and say thank you.
- 14:29Thank you so much for watching or listening to Josh and the
- 14:32Giant. Wherever you do.
- 14:33If you haven't, take some time to go to joshandthegiant.com and
- 14:36support us. Consider becoming a member.
- 14:38Check out our merch. I definitely haven't pissed
- 14:40myself. Guys, thank you again so much
- 14:42for supporting the pod. God bless.
- 14:44Through videos about it and I do think Mike came.
- 14:46Back thought it was wonderful. That's true.
- 14:48I think Dan ended up blocking him but.
- 14:51You know that Dan is actually an African American woman.
- 14:54Well, he could be, because according to Dan, words don't
- 14:56matter. Everything is up for
- 14:58interpretation. What I'm saying historically, if
- 15:00you look at it. Yeah, he also doesn't exist.
- 15:03No, he's just a figment of our imagination.
- 15:06Are we real? Josh, Josh, Josh and the Giant.
- 15:12Anyway, great episode. Yeah, that was really fun.
- 15:14And then we just transcend, yeah.
- 15:16Yeah, dude, it's like Dave. Oh no, you don't remember.
- 15:19That I wasn't here for that. I'm still pissed that y'all.
- 15:22Like that was insane. I was.
- 15:23A little scared? Remember whenever it was like an
- 15:24hour and then Josh came back and he was like, oh, it's like 5
- 15:27minutes. Yeah, I think we were in some.
- 15:29Country, I'll show you. Warp, yeah.
- 15:30Did y'all do like shrubs before that episode or something?
- 15:32Did y'all do? That, yeah, but that's every
- 15:33episode. Yeah, yeah, but what, like did
- 15:37you do more than your normal depth?
- 15:39Oh, no. What?
- 15:41It was the Israel Cup. Anyway, Speaking of, I love
- 15:45Christians, Christians and non Christian.
- 15:47Shut up dude, stop. You're not only I don't love
- 15:51Israel. Whoa.
- 15:52But no, no, no, no, no, no, no. What?
- 15:55Other countries don't you love? Let me tell you something
- 15:58anyway, You totally messed up my transition Again.
- 16:03Again. That's OK.
- 16:05Also Speaking of non Christians, we watched a movie a movie weeks
- 16:12ago. At this point it's a long time
- 16:14ago. We asked the Mormons in the
- 16:17audience the the LDS members in the audience what is the best
- 16:21Joseph Smith movie. I do want to apologize.
- 16:24We did say we would watch 2. After this one I do not see
- 16:28there was another one. Put it in the comments please.
- 16:31If you guys can remember, I don't remember there was another
- 16:33one that looked like maybe would actually be OK.
- 16:35They threw quite a few at us to be.
- 16:37Fair they did, but the majority, I would say the majority winner
- 16:41was this movie called The Witnesses.
- 16:44There's another movie if you guys want us to watch it.
- 16:47Maybe we could, and I think it would actually be pretty good,
- 16:49But one about the Mormon prisoners in like Russia.
- 16:51I thought it was the one where Joseph Smith turned into a
- 16:53velociraptor. You gotta send me the link to
- 16:55that. Cuz I do want to see that I've
- 16:56been looking for it. But The Witnesses?
- 16:59Yep, The Witnesses is technically a movie.
- 17:02A Mormon movie at. That time Mormon movie.
- 17:04Let me tell you something. I've got my Mormon hat and we.
- 17:07Oh, here we go. And here come the glasses.
- 17:08I don't understand glasses. Yeah.
- 17:12Yeah, Yeah, brother. Hey, brother.
- 17:13Listen here. Can I put my first thing?
- 17:17Go ahead. The movie opens.
- 17:19If you watch it, Wait wait wait before.
- 17:21I want to go ahead and do this first.
- 17:22Guess what? So it didn't get enough reviews
- 17:24on Rotten Tomatoes from actual critics to have like a score.
- 17:27Guess what the audience score was on?
- 17:30Is it 100? 97%.
- 17:33I was going to guess 95. 97 The Mormons love.
- 17:37This one now, OK, I want to make it a bun in the clear before we
- 17:40start talking about this movie. And we've made this amount in
- 17:43the clear on our own individual content.
- 17:44We've made this abundantly clear on the podcast before.
- 17:47Both of us obviously have our issues with Mormonism, right?
- 17:50Everything, everything that I will say about this movie has
- 17:55nothing to do with the beliefs. Can't say the same.
- 17:58OK, well, fair enough. And you know what?
- 18:00I'm not saying I'm going to be perfect about that, but here's
- 18:03what I mean. This movie I do not.
- 18:05I genuinely don't know why it was recommended unless it was
- 18:08recommended as a joke. Yeah.
- 18:09Were you guys like, are you? Guys goofing 'cause I I really
- 18:12wanted to watch the best. Justice, Commitment, Witnesses.
- 18:16Oh my gosh, some people make videos being like, you guys
- 18:18should watch this. And I was like, you know what?
- 18:21Maybe it'll be a good movie. Somebody just on that topic of
- 18:26getting videos made there, there's a Mormon woman who made
- 18:29a video about me that said that I was What's it called when you
- 18:33don't like Jews? Gay, OH.
- 18:36And she said I was anti-Semitic because I thought that a a
- 18:40Mormon kids worship song was weird.
- 18:44I didn't. I couldn't really track with it.
- 18:45Oh, because they were probably just singing some old Jewish
- 18:47song. No, it wasn't Jewish.
- 18:49It was. It's the follow the prophet.
- 18:52Follow the Prophet, but. What I'm saying is, is that
- 18:55translated? From like, no, like it's written
- 18:57for Mormonism. And she was like.
- 18:59Wow. You hate Jews too?
- 19:01And I was like, what I. Didn't wait, but isn't it a
- 19:03Mormon thing where they do think they're like the like they're
- 19:07the Israelites? Yeah, like descendants who came
- 19:10to America and. And don't they also, or some of
- 19:13them, at least some of them thinks, yeah, I think some of
- 19:16them also think that Joseph Smith was predicted in like the
- 19:21Talmud, right? Because isn't there someone
- 19:24barred Joseph and they, they some, at least some Mormons will
- 19:27attribute that to Joseph Smith. Anyway, we're getting off topic.
- 19:30Sorry about that. Yeah, just.
- 19:31No, you're good. 9097 percent, 7%.
- 19:34OK, this is what I wanted to say.
- 19:35To be fair to them, a bunch of the Gods Not Dead movies have
- 19:37100% on Rotten to me. Yeah, because people just delays
- 19:40those. I get it.
- 19:41I get it. Yeah.
- 19:42You know, you got your thing and you got.
- 19:43It for the whole team. Anyway, first thing I wrote,
- 19:47because this movie doesn't have a formal rating like like rating
- 19:50as in like PG through M or whatever, not MRI put unrated
- 19:57edgy edgy, yeah, what's this movie?
- 20:00What are they going to do? Little freaky deaky Mormon movie
- 20:03anyway. Here's oh, here's another thing.
- 20:06And this can be seen as a positive or negative, what have
- 20:08you. Let me tell you something.
- 20:10The God's not dead movies, very asexual.
- 20:14The Witnesses movie not asexual at all.
- 20:17Nope. And do we want to go?
- 20:18Do we want to go chronologically or do we want to give over all
- 20:21thoughts? Just go ahead and give all.
- 20:22Thoughts. OK, I wrote this down.
- 20:24You could cut the gay tension in this movie with a Dang knife.
- 20:27Yeah, every other scene, Matt, Matt didn't watch the movie.
- 20:32Every other scene is somebody looking at Joseph Smith.
- 20:36Like, literally like. There's a little glimmer in the
- 20:38eye. Matt, zoom it whenever you do
- 20:40that Zoom including Joseph Smith.
- 20:44Lick your lips little. What are you doing?
- 20:49How does he do that? Oh my God, bro, there's a whole
- 20:51part. Oh my gosh, there's a whole
- 20:53really weird part in the beginning where where he runs
- 20:59home and he's like, nobody touched the plates, right?
- 21:02And they're all wrapped up. And then he allows his sister to
- 21:05touch him. And then Joseph Smith is like
- 21:07sitting back in the chair, 'cause he just ran through the
- 21:09woods and he. I also wrote down Joe Smith, the
- 21:12John Wick prophet, because also in the previous.
- 21:14Yeah, I've got something to say. He absolutely mollywops like 3
- 21:18different guys. Anyway, he's sitting there and
- 21:21he's like, and he's like, you can, you can touch it.
- 21:24Go ahead and touch it. Like literally, he's literally
- 21:27like, no, go ahead and he just sits back and he's like, and
- 21:30he's doing his big dumb smile that he does.
- 21:32He does the whole movie. They the guy that they cast for
- 21:34Joseph Smith, handsome, handsome guy.
- 21:36He looks like who's the dude that when you were the over the
- 21:38other day, the guy that's in Sonic and like he.
- 21:42Does and I'm like oh this? Guy's just in everything.
- 21:44Oh, he looks like Cyclops. And he's.
- 21:46Always just the best guy ever. It's like, oh, here's the all
- 21:49American guy that's on Do what? It looks like the guy is
- 21:52something. Yeah, it kind of does.
- 21:53So they cast a guy that looks like that for Joseph James
- 21:56Marsden. James Marsden that's Cyclops.
- 21:59And then everyone else that they cast male wise is just damn
- 22:03ugga. Let's find someone from West
- 22:04Virginia. Just the ugliest people you've
- 22:06ever seen. So that doesn't help that he was
- 22:08the only probably. But literally he's like, and
- 22:12he's and like his sister tries to touch the plates and the mom
- 22:14is like, and he's like, it's OK, you can touch it.
- 22:18And then the rest and then the rest of the family is like, and
- 22:21literally, and I'm not BSN, right?
- 22:24You watched it. He's like, and there is a full
- 22:271015 seconds where all of his family is like touching and
- 22:31rubbing the plates. And he's just over there like,
- 22:34and it's like, what? What is what is this movie?
- 22:38What is this movie already? And yeah, go ahead.
- 22:41You got some. Thoughts.
- 22:41So I got some thoughts because I don't know if this is, I'm
- 22:45assuming that it is like, I don't know if you would call it
- 22:47Canon or folklore, but that that Joseph Smith ran into like
- 22:50attackers in the woods when he got the plates and he he fought
- 22:54them off and then he got, I don't know if that's subscribed
- 22:57to. Real quick, you mentioned this
- 22:59before we started recording. This movie is terrible at
- 23:02following chronologically. Yes, 'cause they jump all
- 23:05around. There's a lot they don't tell
- 23:07you they don't like. You know well.
- 23:08They'll tell you three years. Three years later.
- 23:12They do a bit, but even still it's like like at one point
- 23:15whenever they're cuz I cuz I always knew that like the Book
- 23:18of Mormon. One of the things you always
- 23:19hear people like gassing it up about is that he did it in like
- 23:213 months, right? It does not feel that way at all
- 23:25in the movie. In the movie it's like, OK, it's
- 23:27been years or something. It's been some long amount of
- 23:30time and then it's like no, three months later and it's
- 23:33like, what's going on? Yeah, this isn't it.
- 23:35It's not. Just buried his key I.
- 23:37Don't mean to cut you off, like right off the beginning.
- 23:39No, you're good. Everything about this movie is
- 23:41done poorly. Yeah.
- 23:43The acting is poor. The director acting is poor,
- 23:45there's terrible shot composition, everything is blown
- 23:48out like and I don't just mean the dudes backs after the scene
- 23:53ends, I mean the scene everything is so bright.
- 23:57Everything there's there's either under acting or insane
- 24:01over acting like, dude, like they're watching family members
- 24:05being beheaded right off screen and all it is whenever Martin
- 24:09loses the which I understand it's a big deal, but literally
- 24:13Joseph Smith is going to RIP his head off.
- 24:16He's like, you can't find out Martin and he's like, I can't
- 24:20Joseph, I've opened books and I've opened beds and and you're
- 24:26just sitting there like, all right, can we get back?
- 24:28And then literally the next scene, dude, the next also, Oh
- 24:31my gosh. No, we'll get there.
- 24:33We'll get there. Let me get back to the the the
- 24:35opening scene or what felt like the opening scene.
- 24:38Yes. Please.
- 24:39Was that like a Muslim chant? Something like that.
- 24:41OK, very Muslim film. Bad boys.
- 24:45Go ahead, I love bad boys, my goodness.
- 24:48So that from now on. That's the way you drive.
- 24:52Me saying I love bad boys was just kind of a SUS remark.
- 24:56Well, no, I mean it's a movie you didn't like.
- 24:58Whisper into my ear. And I ain't going back anyway,
- 25:02so. Remember the scene in Bad Boys?
- 25:03Let's talk about a better movie for a second.
- 25:05In Bad Boys 2, whenever they're doing the shootout in the house
- 25:09and the camera is traveling in and out of the bullet holes and
- 25:12around, and Will Smith is doing that, he's teed out.
- 25:14Oh yeah. Oh my God, So sick.
- 25:16Everything about goofy little white Ben, who is like Tubby,
- 25:21and he's like, this is the coolest thing ever.
- 25:22I'm like, I want this to be me. I want this to be my
- 25:25personality. And it never could have been.
- 25:27Yeah, go ahead, The witnesses. The witnesses away from bad
- 25:31boys. So I don't know if this is like
- 25:33Mormon folklore or whatever, but they put in the movie Joseph
- 25:37Smith. He finds the place and then he
- 25:38runs into like 3 attackers in the woods that are trying to get
- 25:41the gold from him and then he you know, he battles them off.
- 25:44That's impossible. I would wager every dollar that
- 25:48I have to make all $45,000,000 that we have that that did not
- 25:52happen. If I could bet that on Kaushi
- 25:54because what what people may or may not know, Joseph Smith
- 25:57walked his entire life with a limp because he almost lost his
- 26:00leg as a a kid. Like they were like this close
- 26:04to having to just cut it off and then they had to like, dig into
- 26:07his leg. Whoa.
- 26:09Wheelchair index the tinch not in the past, so he.
- 26:15He's so athletic. He's always, literally, he's
- 26:21always outside chopping wood. He's always, he literally beats
- 26:25up three men. He bashes one dude's head in
- 26:27with a stick. Yeah, he's like, he bashes
- 26:29another guy's head in with a rock and then another guy, I
- 26:31think he just kind of shakes off also all men with guns.
- 26:35And he's also sprinting through the woods carrying 50 lbs.
- 26:38They literally. They said it's £50 then it's not
- 26:4050 lbs. When you look at the dimensions,
- 26:43if it's actual gold, which the Angel Morona, I said gold
- 26:47plates, yes. So a lot of Mormons are going to
- 26:49be in the comments. It was tungsten or or another.
- 26:51By the way, there's a point in the movie, dude.
- 26:54I'm. I'm going to calm down.
- 26:55No, But there's a point in the movie where because the whole
- 26:57thing, the way the movie is laid out is while you're kind of
- 27:03learning about what happened, it keeps cutting back to David
- 27:05Whitmer. David Whitmer as an old man
- 27:08telling the story to a reporter. Yeah, there's literally a point.
- 27:12Hold up. I want to see if I wrote it down
- 27:14where the reporter is like, so was it gold or was it LED or
- 27:18whatever? And he's like, it doesn't
- 27:19matter. The specifics don't matter.
- 27:21He literally tells me he's like, you're getting caught up in the
- 27:23wrong things. And it's like the the IT kind of
- 27:26matters. The details of the story that's
- 27:29Those are like the. Whole thing.
- 27:30The reason? It's like if somebody was like,
- 27:32wait, so did Jesus die and then rise on the third day or the
- 27:354th? You're getting all caught up in
- 27:37the nitty gritty. It's like that's how integral
- 27:40the these specifics are. Like what was it made on?
- 27:44How many was there? Where was come on.
- 27:47The whole thing is so stupid. And again, I don't even mean and
- 27:51and again, OK, I kind OK, I don't want to immediately recant
- 27:55what I said earlier. I do mean some of the.
- 27:57Let me take that role. OK, OK.
- 27:59I just mean storytelling wise, thematically, it's it's dog
- 28:06water, it's not good, it's not laid out well, it doesn't make
- 28:10sense. Everything is bad about this
- 28:13movie for anybody. If you've ever been to a
- 28:15historical like place, especially like a historical
- 28:18town, First off, that's 100% where they shot every scene of
- 28:20this movie because that's how to the house.
- 28:23Washington cabin or something. And we're like, hey, you mind if
- 28:25we rent this for a day? Or two, yeah, hey, could we put
- 28:27like a chair in this room? Because it's like, look, I get
- 28:30it, Maybe not everybody was in the interior design back in the
- 28:331800s. They probably had some.
- 28:35On the wall. My goodness, sorry.
- 28:38It's just so bare and it doesn't feel lived in and it feels like
- 28:41if you've ever been to like a historical town and they go,
- 28:44hey, we have a movie we made. You can go into Room 47 and
- 28:48we're playing it and it's a little 15 minute movie, except
- 28:51this movie is an hour and 40 minutes long.
- 28:54This movie was like the the sexual harassment training.
- 28:57If you went to go work for like a historical place like that,
- 29:01like if we're going to work at like the Abraham Lincoln Museum,
- 29:04This movie was just the sexual harassment.
- 29:05Training this movie was that, and then if you got molested
- 29:07during that. Yeah, exactly, Exactly.
- 29:10Back to the opening scene, he's he's limping in real life.
- 29:13Joseph Smith limped in real life.
- 29:14The gold plates were close to like 200 lbs.
- 29:16You're telling me like? They.
- 29:18Were yes like how they're not 50 lbs like the the the if they are
- 29:23gold, which the Angel said they were, the dimensions of the gold
- 29:27plates, it's impossible for them to be 50 lbs.
- 29:30OK. It's like gold is heavy.
- 29:32Also, everyone must just be what's up?
- 29:33Was it gold plated? Ask the Angel man.
- 29:37Ask. Ask macaroni.
- 29:38I don't know. Hey man, I told you I was not
- 29:41going to be nice. That's true.
- 29:42I've got my hat on that's. You do when I take the hat off
- 29:45that'll. Be nice.
- 29:45I promise. OK.
- 29:46OK. OK.
- 29:47No, it's just also, that would just mean that everybody is so
- 29:50jacked. Here's the thing.
- 29:51Oh, my gosh. This Dang movie I did write.
- 29:55I want to give the film its credit.
- 29:56Good title card. Yeah.
- 29:58Where it says, like witnesses. And then it's the three guys
- 30:00names. A scene we never see, by the
- 30:02way, which would make a lot of sense to show in the Witnesses
- 30:05movie, but you don't see that. Yep.
- 30:08I wrote down it felt like because this happened a couple
- 30:12times and I don't know chronologically when these
- 30:15events allegedly happened, but every time like the townspeople
- 30:18came and like we're like, let's get those Mormons from it.
- 30:22It felt like they just went to the scene like the set of Django
- 30:26and said, hey, everybody like that's been acting and
- 30:28pretending to be racist. Keep that same energy and just,
- 30:31you know, get it towards the. It felt like they literally were
- 30:35trying to just emulate, hey just treat them like a black like we
- 30:38would have treated black people in the 1800s.
- 30:40Yeah, but also, it's like, don't do too much.
- 30:44They were doing too much. Because I understand if somebody
- 30:45watches and they're like, well, guys, it was just a small
- 30:47production, OK, Don't make the movie.
- 30:49It's a bad movie. It's a bad movie.
- 30:52I'm supposed to in these scenes be feeling like nervous for
- 30:55Joseph Smith, right? And his family because people
- 30:57are coming to the farm to attack them.
- 30:59And then in that's really weird scene, again, nobody is good at
- 31:03acting in this movie. The best actors in this movie
- 31:07are people who like you don't know their names.
- 31:09And I'm like, that guy maybe should have been Joseph Smith or
- 31:12David Whitmer or freaking Martin Harris or whoever the other guy
- 31:15is who is a bizarre looking fellow.
- 31:18Oliver Cowdry. Oliver Cowdry who gets baptized
- 31:20at the end whenever his hair is all slicked back and he's like,
- 31:23he looks like the Joker. He looked insane, dude.
- 31:26It was crazy anyway. Did you know the Joker was
- 31:28actually Mormon? It's it's it's Batman cannon
- 31:33that's actually crazy. Makes a lot of sense now.
- 31:35Doesn't it 100%, yeah. After seeing this movie, let me
- 31:37tell you something. But no, there's like a whole
- 31:39scene where they're like, oh, OK.
- 31:41Because they treat, they treat them like raccoons in the trash.
- 31:44Yes. Where they come outside and
- 31:45you're supposed to be under, I believe the assumption that,
- 31:48like, these people are willing to kill us, Right?
- 31:50Yeah. And then they come out and
- 31:51they're all like shooting guns in the air.
- 31:53But there's kind of like a come on, y'all go get out of here,
- 31:56Dad, and then y'all get. Which, by the way, in the 1800s,
- 32:00if you, and especially if it was 200, you have 200 lbs of gold.
- 32:04Yeah, I might be. You might.
- 32:05You know what I mean? Don't get.
- 32:07Yeah, and I might not. Hey, go and get.
- 32:10No. Where's the place?
- 32:12Where are they? We are going to kill.
- 32:14You and it just and I understand it has to paint it in a certain
- 32:17light where it's not mad suspicious, but everything is
- 32:21just like, hey, could I just see them like real quick and no.
- 32:24No, no, I can't. Do that 'cause I made a promise.
- 32:27I made a promise. And then it's and then
- 32:28everybody's just like, of course.
- 32:30Of course that makes sense. I wanted one scene where
- 32:32somebody's like, show me the in plates, Joseph, show me the
- 32:36plates. I have a gun.
- 32:37Show me the plates. Like would have worked,
- 32:39probably, probably would have worked, probably would have
- 32:41shown them. I want to make a point too.
- 32:43Go ahead. I'm sure historically there were
- 32:46people who tried to steal the. Plates, no doubt.
- 32:48And they they probably, you know, pulled up.
- 32:49But I also want to say, like, especially towards the end of
- 32:52the movie, whenever it's like the townspeople, like, let's get
- 32:54those Mormons. Yeah, go and get them.
- 32:57Yeah. It makes it seem like Mormons,
- 32:59they were just like all these like innocent, like, oh, we
- 33:01we're just trying to live here and.
- 33:03Well, what were they doing? Like literally like just
- 33:07injecting polygamy into communities.
- 33:09Like because they would move kind of in mass, right?
- 33:12Like they went to Nauvoo and Kirtland and eventually out
- 33:14West. Like Mormon's like adopted
- 33:16polygamy pretty quickly. And it wasn't just Joseph Smith
- 33:19like other people. Which they address in one line
- 33:21of dialogue. In this quick line.
- 33:23Oh my goodness that scene is insane.
- 33:26But yeah, so they're like, and that's just one of the problems.
- 33:28There's other things that Joseph Smith did too, as like a leader
- 33:30and stuff. But it's like, let's not act
- 33:32like Mormons were just like, we're just these peaceful people
- 33:35and we're just here and well. Because I know and I think to a
- 33:37degree what you're talking about and they kind of show in the
- 33:39movie, even though they don't. Nothing is specific.
- 33:43Nothing is like named, wasn't it that?
- 33:45And again, I'm not trying to like, I don't know, like like
- 33:49give anyone too much credit, but that weren't there literally
- 33:51like Mormon hunts essentially like there was there was stuff
- 33:55put out where it was like if Mormons are found in this area,
- 33:58we will attack them. We will do whatever.
- 34:00I forget what that's. Called, I believe like a.
- 34:02Bounty. Yeah, like a bounty.
- 34:04Or like it was. But I also know that like it was
- 34:07either Joseph Smith or Brigham Young, they were hunts done on
- 34:10other people too from like. So it was.
- 34:13Just a a a product of the time. And I'm sure that's what it was.
- 34:17Yeah, which is, which is also so frustrating of like, again,
- 34:22that's not so much about the movie, but more so whenever you
- 34:24talk to certain Mormons about certain beliefs, they're like,
- 34:26well, you know, a lot of people at the time.
- 34:28But isn't, isn't he supposed to be different?
- 34:31Isn't again, if you because I think it is fair and a lot of
- 34:33people, there are some points in the movie, fair enough where
- 34:35this happens where they're like, don't you talk to God then did
- 34:39God tell you to go start a bank and then that all just goes to
- 34:42hell and then it's like, sorry. It was actually y'all's fault.
- 34:46And Martin Harris has a very good point later on in this
- 34:48movie, whenever he's like, oh, everybody else gets to be put in
- 34:50these beautiful positions of high authority and I get to,
- 34:53like, settle the church's debts. And it's like, hey, you know
- 34:56what, Martin Harris, you actually have a really good
- 34:58point. He he said that I was like,
- 35:00you're, you're this close to getting it.
- 35:02Dude, seriously. And then it's like, and then
- 35:05which is also a weird thing for them to like save to the end,
- 35:08which I kind of guess I get why they did because you get a feel
- 35:11good moment to end it. But whenever they're all praying
- 35:14to see the plates and the angels, which would have been
- 35:17nice to see, especially coming from a religion where they make
- 35:20it abundantly clear, hey, all of these beings have bodies and
- 35:23like you interact with them and you see them and you can talk to
- 35:25them. Everybody's just a Dang big
- 35:28white ray of God light. Everything, every good moment,
- 35:33is just like. We're not going to show you
- 35:34this. Yeah.
- 35:35Which again I get. Yeah, which again I get.
- 35:38It's like they probably just didn't have the budget then
- 35:40don't put it in. Maybe, I don't know, crazy
- 35:43thought. I put this down, so go ahead.
- 35:45You know the story and they address in the movie, Martin
- 35:48Harris asks Joseph Smith. Like, hey, my wife keeps bugging
- 35:52me about this Lucy Harris. Like let me show her the
- 35:54manuscript. And Joseph Smith is like, hey,
- 35:56why don't you tell Lucy to shut up?
- 35:57That essentially literally. Yeah, sorry, go.
- 35:59And he's like, you know, whatever.
- 36:01And and Joseph let's him take the pages to Lucy Harris and
- 36:04then, you know, she of course hides the pages to see if Joseph
- 36:08could rewrite, to see if it was divine.
- 36:11And of course, he didn't. Which kind of a smart move.
- 36:14Wait, hold up, is that like a confirmed historical?
- 36:16Fact. Yeah, that happened.
- 36:17That's the the South Park episode where?
- 36:19So wait, because that never comes up in the movie.
- 36:22That's that's when Martin Harris loses the document.
- 36:24No, I know, but we never see where Lucy Harris is.
- 36:27Like I hid them to see if she would but.
- 36:29But is that like known? Yeah.
- 36:31Lucy Harris basically was like, OK, and I don't know if she hid
- 36:35them, maybe she lost them, I don't know.
- 36:37But the idea behind it was, hey if this if this is divinely
- 36:41inspired, you can just recreate it.
- 36:43And he couldn't. And he couldn't the.
- 36:45The story goes that God took the prophethood away from them for
- 36:49like 6 months and then, oh, there's a different book now,
- 36:52Yeah, and I'll write this one. Wait seriously?
- 36:55That's the legitimately would happen?
- 36:57I had no idea because also that's not at all in the movie.
- 36:59Yeah, no. Why would they?
- 37:00Why? Would they put that?
- 37:01Why would they put that? In the but I I I bring that up
- 37:03because the movie shows Joseph Smith using the seer stone to
- 37:07see like where people are at on their journey, right?
- 37:10Like whenever that it was it David Whitner that came to his
- 37:13house and he was like, yeah, you stayed at this inn, and this inn
- 37:16is owned by this. Person, which again, which is a
- 37:19wild thing for somebody who inevitably, you know, and I'm
- 37:21not. And I've seen some people and I
- 37:23don't know how you feel about this, but I've seen some people
- 37:24say some things about the death of Joseph Smith.
- 37:26OK, OK, but where are we going? No, but just if you have this
- 37:31prophetic ability, especially for like, and I don't want to be
- 37:35whatever, but for stupid stuff like, hey, where did David
- 37:38Whitmer stay last night? Can't you maybe, I don't know,
- 37:41get yourself out of a position where you're gunned down in a
- 37:44jail? Can't you maybe, I don't know,
- 37:45find the manuscript that Lucy Harris hid?
- 37:49Just seems like a really weird arbitrary.
- 37:51She's a woman in the 18. Hundreds.
- 37:52She couldn't have gone far to hide it.
- 37:54You just look into the stone. Oh, Barry.
- 37:56Also, you definitely get a good bit like here and there in the
- 37:58movie of men being like, why don't you shut up the women?
- 38:01And then they're like, OK, and you're like, OK, well, that's a
- 38:03bit that's I didn't really like that, but all right.
- 38:07Because Martin Harris for a certain point, which is kind of
- 38:10a funny, but whatever. Because Martin Harris brings
- 38:12back the manuscript or whatever and he's reading it to people
- 38:16and it looks like some people are vibing with it.
- 38:18And then the next scene is Lucy like reading it, giggling with
- 38:21her friends, mad funny. And then he comes up and Martin
- 38:24Harris is crying because he always cries in this Dang movie.
- 38:27But he's like, you know, this is serious, Lucy.
- 38:30And she's like, all right, OK, come on.
- 38:33Is it? And then that's whenever he's
- 38:34like, why don't you shut up, Lucy?
- 38:35And she's like, OK. And then it's just like tootling
- 38:39down to the next scene. This was a.
- 38:42Piece of conflict, and now it's. I hate that court scene, by the
- 38:45way, that God awful court seat. It also makes it it 'cause they
- 38:49don't say it at all. But it also has such a vibe
- 38:51that, like the judge and the defending attorney and probably
- 38:55a bunch of the people in the court are just Mormons because
- 38:58they don't want to hear what the prosecution has to say.
- 39:01Like the whole thing is like, can we just talk to Martin
- 39:03Harris? And then it's like, well, yeah,
- 39:05his right hand guy, he's just going to, like, jerk him off the
- 39:08whole time on the Dang thing. And he's just like, it was
- 39:12crazy. It's like, whoa, why is this in
- 39:14court? No, sorry.
- 39:15Sorry. Yeah, guys.
- 39:17My apologies. Can we can we get to the
- 39:18polygamy Part 2? Sure.
- 39:20Because it's it's like that line.
- 39:21I like to think that the people that made this film in an
- 39:26attempt to get ex Mormons or people that, you know, have
- 39:29never been Mormon, like interested.
- 39:31Like, hey, we're going to be fair in this.
- 39:34Yeah, we're we're not. We're not keeping anything out.
- 39:36And it's like a 2 minute scene of Oliver Calendry coming to
- 39:40Joseph Smith. Like you're cheating on your
- 39:42wife with Fannie Alger and Joseph Smith.
- 39:44Just like meh. Well, and it it's a decent line
- 39:47because he's like, you know, Fannie Alger, your housemate, or
- 39:49should I say your new bride or something.
- 39:51And it literally is literally Joseph Smith does this, OK, He's
- 39:54like this. He's like, it's a part of the
- 39:57new covenant and then that's it. And then that's it, Oliver.
- 40:00Calder, he called it. In real life, what do you call
- 40:02it? He called Joseph Smith's
- 40:04relation with Fannie Alger a dirty, nasty, filthy affair.
- 40:08Nice. Like, verbatim, right?
- 40:10They could have put that in the movie.
- 40:11That would have been well, especially because there's
- 40:13dissension. So why not?
- 40:14Just because I'm sure that was a part of it.
- 40:17I'm sure some whatever. But yeah, it's just like a 2
- 40:20minute scene of like, hey, you're doing this and he's like
- 40:22God said. To me, it doesn't make me
- 40:24believe the Book of Mormon that some people who knew all the
- 40:27faults of Joseph Smith and how he wasn't trustworthy and how he
- 40:31led the church to do all these bad things.
- 40:33We're still just like, but you know what?
- 40:35I believe the Book of Mormon, bully for you.
- 40:37What does that mean? All you've shown me Martin
- 40:39Harris, who has his big moment in some other church where he's
- 40:42like, no, I know the and by the way, that's the level of acting.
- 40:47No, I know the Book of Mormon to be true.
- 40:51It's like, cool, you're a sucker right now.
- 40:55Whatever. Let me ask you this.
- 40:57Do you think, because I think I have a pretty firm position on
- 41:00this, do you think that they actually saw something or at the
- 41:04very least that Joseph Smith actually saw something?
- 41:06Or do you think it was all a con?
- 41:10Because I I genuine just to give my thoughts.
- 41:13I think they could have seen something.
- 41:14I think. Because I do think there's
- 41:16there's something to a degree because people whenever you
- 41:19attack that will then be like, well, OK, well then why does it
- 41:22matter that the apostles didn't give up Christ and like recant
- 41:27Christianity whenever they were tortured?
- 41:29OK, I do think there's something to people who like under threat
- 41:33of death or under threat of whatever won't recant certain
- 41:36things. Sure.
- 41:37So I do wonder if they saw something.
- 41:41I I think it was a con. The whole thing.
- 41:43I because they're I saw this recently.
- 41:46There were stories of it published in newspapers back in
- 41:50the 1800s of Joseph Smith dressing in a white sheet and
- 41:54pretending to be the Holy Ghost at baptisms.
- 41:56No way. I swear it like.
- 41:58This is published. Was that like a thematic thing
- 42:00though? Like they were.
- 42:01Like it was legitimately like people were like he, he, he,
- 42:05he's trying to impress upon people.
- 42:07The Holy Ghost is here. You see the Holy Ghost and it
- 42:09like came out that it was. Him, which by the way, is
- 42:11another scene in the movie, which is supposed to be like a
- 42:14Oh my gosh, whenever he's talking to the reporter and he's
- 42:17like, is it possible that he just like hypnotized you or, or
- 42:21like, 'cause you see something and he stands up, this old man,
- 42:24he like stands up and he's like, which is so clearly and it's so
- 42:28annoying. Whenever they do this, they
- 42:29clearly insert maybe famous quotes to scenes where otherwise
- 42:34they were talking kind of normal.
- 42:35But whenever he's like, these eyes have seen and these ears
- 42:39have heard in the way, and it's like, OK, we that's what being
- 42:43tricked is nothing about. Yeah, You know what I mean?
- 42:47Whenever you're tricked, whenever you're tricked, you see
- 42:49stuff and you think there's something.
- 42:51You hear stuff and you think there's something.
- 42:52So I think it was a con. I think like, Oliver Caldari and
- 42:56and Whitmer were in on it, hence why Martin Harris had to, like,
- 42:59leave because like, oh, I'm the one that's hindering the vision,
- 43:03remember? And all the other guys were
- 43:04like, yeah, we saw it. Yeah, we saw it.
- 43:06But is it a historical thing that then Martin Harris just
- 43:09walked off and then Joseph just went and saw it with him?
- 43:12Yeah, and then Joseph came, and then they saw a vision.
- 43:16Joseph came tell you something. The sexual attention of this
- 43:19Dang movie. Hey, thanks so much for
- 43:22listening to the pod. We really appreciate it.
- 43:24Hope you guys are enjoying it. And if you are consider going to
- 43:27joshandthegiant.com, checking out our merch and potentially
- 43:30becoming a member today. You can do so for as little as a
- 43:34dollar a month. And now back to the podcast.
- 43:37Crazy. Oh my gosh.
- 43:39It also doesn't help again, going back to the make Joseph
- 43:42Smith like this, like just absolute hunk again.
- 43:45He's always chopping wood. He's always right.
- 43:48He's always ready to Also, can I say this?
- 43:50This is such a weird thing to thank you.
- 43:53You see what he lets me. He lets me talk.
- 43:56Thank you man. Tootsies, we just touch toes.
- 44:01The worst not only are the sets terrible, not only is the acting
- 44:06terrible and the lighting and literally everything about this
- 44:08movie, the outfits are God awful, horrible wardrobe.
- 44:12Everything is even for people on the run, people who don't have
- 44:16much. Everything is like they just
- 44:18bought it yesterday because they did and it just looks like dog
- 44:22water, but it also helps the Super like supposed to be super
- 44:28handsome, super like obviously this movie is such AI texted
- 44:31Josh this and I even wrote it in my notes and to be fair to the
- 44:34movie. I want to give it its credit.
- 44:35I said this right before he did do some stuff that the movie
- 44:39points out he was wrong about, but this movie for 75% of it is
- 44:43the Joseph Smith never did anything wrong movie.
- 44:45Never. Literally he's right about
- 44:47everything and he's the. Only one.
- 44:49Like there's a part where I forget which character, but
- 44:51someone's like so and so had a vision, or so and so had a
- 44:54prophecy. And Joseph's like.
- 44:55No. No, dude, he literally it's just
- 44:58me. They're having like a normal
- 45:00human conversation where they talk like people and then all of
- 45:03a sudden he like walks off to the corner and turns around and
- 45:05he goes. No one else shall give divine
- 45:08revelation other than Joseph Smith.
- 45:11Thus says the Lord. I'm sure that's a real quote.
- 45:14What a weird thing to introduce in a conversation and all the
- 45:18other guys. And again, it would we talked
- 45:20about this with the God's Not Dead movies.
- 45:23There are ways to where you can still like stay true to whatever
- 45:26you're trying to have come across, but actually have like
- 45:30genuine pushback or actually have like a bit of dissent
- 45:34because there could so easily be moments.
- 45:36And you have little bits of it in this movie where people are
- 45:39like, and I don't know anything about Mormonism.
- 45:42Fair enough to a degree of like the what the actual Book of
- 45:44Mormon says or what they've what they teach or preach.
- 45:47But whenever the other guys are like, yeah, but you said that
- 45:49like any St. could have all knowledge or you said anybody
- 45:53could receive divine revelation or whatever the actual
- 45:56terminology. In due time.
- 45:58Well, he's like in proper order, and it's like, oh, so only
- 46:02through you. Yeah.
- 46:03Right, Right. Oh, very interesting, very
- 46:06convenient. Which, yeah, the whole movie,
- 46:08Joseph Smith, all American guy. He's he's whatever, but he's
- 46:12kind of like a douche to like I wrote down Joseph Smith is kind
- 46:17of a douche. He treats everyone like crap
- 46:19around him. Yep.
- 46:20He's very petty and demanding. There's not even really a plot
- 46:23or any kind of story or character development.
- 46:26There's no like real. Well, there's no character
- 46:28development. There's the plot in so far as
- 46:30like, I mean, I guess it's about the Book of Mormon being
- 46:34written. And then also they kind of gloss
- 46:36over because Martin or not Martin Harris, David Whitmer
- 46:40talks about that like his next big venture was going to be
- 46:44restoring the Bible. And is that in?
- 46:47I don't. Remember that.
- 46:49About him saying that, Oh yeah, he was like, oh, and then he's
- 46:51going to the restoration of the Bible.
- 46:54And I was wondering because I know there's a famous Joseph
- 46:56Smith translation where he like, changes it, which I'm sure would
- 47:01be another demerit, but God forbid.
- 47:03No, can't have that in there. But no, to be fair to the movie,
- 47:07they do show that like everything that happened at what
- 47:09was the town. They were in multiple towns.
- 47:11The bank was in Kirtland, OH, Kirtland.
- 47:13That Kirtland was all his fault because and then they even try
- 47:17to. Which also another historical
- 47:18fact for you, the bank in Kirtland that they set up,
- 47:21Joseph Smith gave an like an audible.
- 47:24It was one of the first times he said I've audibly heard from God
- 47:28that this bank will not fail. Like he tells all these people
- 47:32this. So like in the movie, you see
- 47:33that And I'm sure that's how people were.
- 47:35They were like you told us that, like you heard from God.
- 47:37And then he comes in and he's like, who told you that?
- 47:40And then everybody's like, yo, no, but well, you would normal
- 47:44human beings would say that. But in the movie they're like,
- 47:46oh wait, he's so no one did. Something to me I can't say.
- 47:48Oh my God. Isn't one of the requirements in
- 47:50the Bible that a prophet is never wrong?
- 47:53Yeah, in the book of Deuteronomy, it talks and that's
- 47:55what people will often throw it figures like Joseph Smith, I
- 47:59forget the exact verse. Whoever knows that, they can
- 48:01cite it. But it it does talk about like,
- 48:03if anybody ever comes to you and then they're wrong, like Old
- 48:07Testament, you're supposed to kill them.
- 48:09Or at the very least you're supposed to push them out.
- 48:12I have good news about how this story is.
- 48:14Josh. Josh.
- 48:15No, no, I don't think. I don't know.
- 48:19Because didn't he? Do you know why he was thrown in
- 48:22jail? OK, tell me why.
- 48:23I don't know it real quick. Real quick.
- 48:26Something that's not in the movie at all is didn't he also
- 48:28like try to like take over a town?
- 48:31I think he. Well, he became mayor, right?
- 48:33Nahu. Yes.
- 48:34Was it Nahu that he became the mayor?
- 48:35Pretty sure. Because he.
- 48:37Well, I know he wanted to become not Nahu.
- 48:39Well, well now to be I'll be again.
- 48:42I'll be the Dang devil's advocate in this episode.
- 48:45A lot of stuff in Star Wars are also just names ripped out of
- 48:47the Bible like Endor and well no, that's Lord of the Rings,
- 48:52but Star Wars has a. There's not like an indoor.
- 48:55I thought there was an indoor in Star Wars.
- 48:56Tattooy Obi Wan. No, there is an indoor.
- 49:02I think the in Star Wars it's the it's the ice planet.
- 49:05No, that's Hoth indoors, like the forest, isn't it?
- 49:07Yes. With, like, the little right.
- 49:08Wow. Whatever.
- 49:09I played a ton of Star Wars Battlefront 2 growing up, dude.
- 49:11Like, in the thick of the recession, my parents were
- 49:14stressed over the table trying to pay bills.
- 49:16Yeah, All right, Joseph, calm down.
- 49:18Thick place. Oh my God.
- 49:20Smith ASMR ready to go? Yeah, got these.
- 49:22I've got these thick blades. Sarah come back to bed so I can
- 49:25have sex with my. Friend.
- 49:26Yeah, you're right. I'm.
- 49:27Gonna have sex with. Sarah and go with her with the
- 49:29ewalks. The Angel.
- 49:31The ewks. Yeah, the ewks.
- 49:32Yeah, anyway. I was.
- 49:35I was not talking about. I don't know, you're about to
- 49:37bring something now. Oh, it was Joseph Smith.
- 49:41Or he was mayor. Oh, why he was.
- 49:43Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just double checking.
- 49:45Go ahead. Yeah.
- 49:46So it was Nevu Nevu, Illinois. And so he's, he's becomes mayor
- 49:50because they're taking over the town and he wanted to be
- 49:52president, right? Yeah, he ran for the president.
- 49:56Thankfully, he didn't get it. So he, he's mayor of this town.
- 50:01And the, the Nauvoo, they had one printing press to, to
- 50:05produce their newspaper 'cause it was a sizeable enough town.
- 50:08This sounds familiar. And the people in the town were
- 50:10like rightfully like as any news journalist would like.
- 50:14Hey, we're publishing stories on how you're practicing polygamy.
- 50:19So they're making stories. And Joseph Smith had the
- 50:21printing press destroyed. Like, he just completely like
- 50:25destroyed. I don't know whose property that
- 50:26would have technically been. Because how dare you, yeah.
- 50:29How, How could you write this about me?
- 50:30So they were like, you can't do that and they put him in jail,
- 50:33which totally normal. Which is also, I mean, not even
- 50:37probably back. And then the Lord knows how much
- 50:40a printing press was. Dude, insanely.
- 50:43Oh my gosh, yeah. So, yeah, they put him in jail,
- 50:45which in in, in the stories like this, you know, he's a martyr
- 50:48and he's dying for his face. Like you just you did that now
- 50:51but committed a crime. OK, but then what happened
- 50:53between that and him being shot to death in jail?
- 50:57I mean, you know, you get, you get the guy that you want behind
- 51:00bars, so you can't go nowhere. So, OK, now to be fair to the
- 51:04Mormons, was it that they were like, OK, we got him in jail for
- 51:07a legitimate thing, now we're just going to kind?
- 51:09Of. I'm sure that's probably what.
- 51:10It was, Oh well, son of a gun. Well, that doesn't really change
- 51:13too much. To be fair, he also had a gun.
- 51:16The movie didn't show him with the gun in the jail.
- 51:17He had a gun. Yeah, didn't somebody sneak it
- 51:19to him? Yeah, he like snuck a gun in or
- 51:21something. Also, did he OK?
- 51:23Was it only a part of the nightmare sequence that he like,
- 51:25fell out of the window or did he die in the jail?
- 51:28I thought he died in the jail. I thought.
- 51:29He fell out of the window. Yeah, I think that was just like
- 51:32the nightmare sequence, which is funny because I'm not that he
- 51:35whatever, but it's funny in the nightmare sequence that he like
- 51:39lands and it wakes up. Who's the guy?
- 51:42The name Oliver, Oliver Cowdry. And in his own nightmare
- 51:46sequence, he's like running home and he tells his wife he's dead
- 51:50and she's like who? And he's like Joseph And it's
- 51:53like and she's like, oh, that guy you've been D riding for
- 51:57years. Oh, did he die?
- 51:58Oh, son of a gun. Oh, no.
- 52:01And then he has his big triumphant return to the church
- 52:03and they're just like sitting in a field, which I'm sure plenty
- 52:06of churches did that. But it is funny how it's like 9
- 52:08people and he's like, Oh no. And it would have been funny if
- 52:11they just beat the hell out of him.
- 52:13They're like you piece of garbage you get out of here.
- 52:15There's no way any of the women like that were the wives to
- 52:19these like notable men or whatever.
- 52:20There's no way any any of them were on board with any of this.
- 52:23Like they probably all like met up while the dudes were out or
- 52:26ever. Had an orgasm?
- 52:30Probably not that really. They were probably just like, oh
- 52:32cool, another wife. Hey, have fun, have fun.
- 52:34Get used to knitting. Like when the boys are just
- 52:36like, we're going to go into the forest and look for more magical
- 52:39plates that the wives are all like, you want to hang out and
- 52:41they're just like, Can you believe that they're doing this?
- 52:43My gosh, why do their Why does their breath always smell like
- 52:46penis? Whatever.
- 52:46Is it true that Joseph Smith started SWIG?
- 52:51I don't know if he did. I heard that.
- 52:53I mean, he started it by, I guess, banning coffee.
- 52:56That was a part of a another revelation, right?
- 52:59Or was that not him? I'm.
- 53:01Pretty sure that was him. I think that's in the Doctrine
- 53:05and Covenants, which ironically enough is another part of Canon
- 53:09for Mormons, another book that I know for certain, like Oliver
- 53:14Calgary. And I think the other two
- 53:15witnesses were like, yeah, we don't subscribe to this.
- 53:19So they were like Book of Mormon.
- 53:20Great. And then Justice Smith's like,
- 53:21hey, I got some more. And they're like, all three of
- 53:24them were like nothing. Isn't it?
- 53:25Isn't it from Mormons? And you know, I could be wrong
- 53:28here. Isn't the prime aren't the
- 53:30primary text for like what they believe Book of Mormon?
- 53:33I mean, they'd probably say Bible, but Book of Mormon,
- 53:36Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great pride great.
- 53:39Prize and I think technically is the Book of Abraham in one of
- 53:43those. I don't think so.
- 53:45Well, isn't the Book of Abraham? That's the one that someone
- 53:47brought him. Actual Egyptian and he
- 53:50completely incorrectly translated.
- 53:52Well, then, I'm sure they don't. I'm sure.
- 53:53No, but they like there's people that will defend it like he he
- 53:57tried to like. Translate but hold up anyways no
- 53:59yeah cuz none of this is in the movie again I want I mean look I
- 54:01knew that this would they were all you know you know I know you
- 54:04know who we're getting into but look man this.
- 54:08Movie sucks this movie sucked and I.
- 54:10Pissed me off because I was really not like, I wasn't like,
- 54:14Oh yeah, I can't wait to watch the Josephs.
- 54:16But I was kind of like, maybe this will be good.
- 54:19Maybe this at the very least. I thought it was newer so I was
- 54:21like OK like 2021, this might actually kind of slap.
- 54:24We should have known what the Dang God's not a dead movie is.
- 54:26We should have known because the newest one of those is like,
- 54:28what, 2023? Yeah, garbage.
- 54:30So I'll conclude I guess my thoughts, unless you want to
- 54:32keep talking about it with this. I want to know what you want to
- 54:35give it out of 10. Say that first.
- 54:37Say say what I want to give it out of 10 first 1 1/2.
- 54:42I'm being very nice and I'm going to stick with what I wrote
- 54:44in my notes because I'm also thinking in comparison to what
- 54:49we've watched before, I'm going to, I'm going to give it a four.
- 54:54Wow. I'm going to give it a four out
- 54:56of 10 because here's the thing. I was able to watch it and I was
- 55:00able to be like, OK, this is happening.
- 55:02And there were, there were, there were Nuggets here and
- 55:05there, but none of it was like very good.
- 55:06Maybe I'd say a three. But yeah, that's and that's and
- 55:09that is me being very nice. And the acting was horrendous
- 55:14and everything was bad. The plot was horrendous.
- 55:17Well, the plot was like the plot was exactly what I expected it
- 55:20to be, but. It was just so all over the
- 55:22place. It's like, can we like we, we
- 55:24know the story, You're not having to write the story.
- 55:27I like the quotes by the reporter at the end because
- 55:30again, that does go back to what I have no doubt about of like
- 55:33because I like how the reporter he and I've never read his thing
- 55:37obviously, but whatever he is like look, regardless what you
- 55:40believe, you can't walk away from like David Whitmer thinking
- 55:46that he's like lying to you, which again, which I think I
- 55:48said my position on the whole thing.
- 55:50I do think that something appeared to them.
- 55:53At the very least, something appeared to Joseph.
- 55:54OK, so your team I'm team appearance or whatever.
- 55:58Devil, I'm team like like this was it.
- 56:00It was, yeah, the same thing I am with Muhammad.
- 56:03I think these people, which for both of them, I don't know so
- 56:07much about Muhammad, but for someone like a Joseph Smith, who
- 56:10it was just like failure after failure for a lot of stuff and
- 56:14then ends in his like terrible death, which I mean, regardless
- 56:17of what I think about him, really bad way to die and never
- 56:21recants any of it or like whatever, I think something
- 56:25happened. That's just what I think.
- 56:27And I say that knowing that he has his past with like con men
- 56:30stuff and also just the blatant lies that we know.
- 56:33But I think two things can be true at the same time.
- 56:35Sure. I'll leave you with this quote.
- 56:38OK. Because the movie at the end
- 56:41makes it seem like Joseph Smith and like all the three witnesses
- 56:44were all chummy again. And we're buddies because we we
- 56:46had some, we had a little bit. Of whenever he's out chopping
- 56:48wood again, again, and he's like, send a note to the young
- 56:52boy he's with who he wants to write stuff, by the way.
- 56:54And he's like just into alone in the woods.
- 56:56Yeah, let's go out there and chop wood.
- 57:00Yeah. And he's like, I want you to
- 57:02write a letter to Oliver Cowdry. And he's like, tell him to come
- 57:06back or whatever. And it's like, OK, OK.
- 57:08Yeah, let me tell you what really happened.
- 57:10Here's a quote from Joseph Smith.
- 57:13Such characters as David Whitmer, Oliver Caldery and
- 57:17Martin Harris are too mean to mention and we had like to have
- 57:21forgotten them. That's the complete opposite of
- 57:25what they like have come across in the movie.
- 57:27I'm also pretty sure he Joseph Smith called one of them a
- 57:30literal ass. I forget.
- 57:32Like that's his quote. Wonderful.
- 57:33That's. Beautiful.
- 57:34I will not bleep that. Out No, no, because it's Joseph
- 57:36Smith's work. That's a historical quote.
- 57:38Historically, I think it was David Whitner.
- 57:40He was like even like in biblical times, like people had
- 57:43to do it like an ass. And he's like, you know, I had
- 57:45to deal with David Wittner with a poor ass at that.
- 57:47That's actually kind of. Funny I I.
- 57:49Mean it was a sick burn like yeah, yeah, but it's just like
- 57:52the movies like they're all buddies again and they're all
- 57:54happy and it's we. Should have like a more beefing.
- 57:56We should have an episode, probably not the next one, but
- 57:59we should have a more dedicated episode of like our thoughts on
- 58:02Mormonism to a degree of because there are some things.
- 58:05At the very least, I'll give it this where it is like, OK, but I
- 58:09think everybody should go watch the debate between Jacob Hanson
- 58:13and Trent Holt. That you're saying trend logic.
- 58:15No. Well, but I think.
- 58:17I guess that ones not really. That ones not really about like
- 58:20Mormonism, Yeah. It's just more so on the
- 58:21Trinity, because I think Trent Horn is an incredible debater,
- 58:25and I think Jacob Hanson is a good debater.
- 58:27I think he's the best Mormon debater I've ever seen.
- 58:29And in that one, I'm gonna give him his credit.
- 58:32And I, I've said this in videos before, I think he, I think he
- 58:35has Trent on the ropes for a lot of it.
- 58:37And I think I don't think Trent necessarily loses, but there are
- 58:39some things where it's like, you know what, fair enough.
- 58:41Maybe I don't have the best way to come to a conclusion about
- 58:44that. I still think it's false.
- 58:46I don't think they're Christians.
- 58:47I think, you know, ABC or D, whatever.
- 58:49But there are some things where, and I think that's why I learn
- 58:52more towards the demonic influence because there are just
- 58:57some things where I'm like, Oh my God, how did he, how did this
- 59:00happen? How?
- 59:01How is this this way blah blah blah.
- 59:02Well, the all those in favor guys, one of one of them just
- 59:05texted me today and was like, hey, what if we came to Dallas
- 59:08joint pod so we can have a serious episode?
- 59:10OK. I mean, I know that they're like
- 59:13Mormon apologists, I feel like. Yeah, well, they're definitely
- 59:15Mormon apologists. And then you know more about
- 59:17Mormonism than I do, so it would be a lot of me just being there,
- 59:19like. Oh, OK, we have to just be like,
- 59:21hey fellas, we're here to chum it up and we're gonna make fun
- 59:25of you. And it's not a debate.
- 59:26Yeah. And just kind of take it so
- 59:28well. You can make fun of.
- 59:29Make fun of us when I know. Yeah, I know who I am.
- 59:32I know what I am. I know what I am.
- 59:34Yeah, yeah. I'm a little bit of a if Joseph
- 59:37Smith is a douche, I'm kind. Of a douche, dude.
- 59:39I mean, I think if anything's made abundantly clear about this
- 59:41podcast, we're pretty much douches.
- 59:43But you know what? And you know, thinking about
- 59:45this movie and thinking about all the things in the movie and
- 59:47the the history around it gets me a little bit bunched up, all
- 59:50right? Gets me, if I'm being honest,
- 59:51not in the best mood. But you know what always
- 59:53relaxes? Me.
- 59:54What relaxes you? Pokémon Go, Pokémon let's Go.
- 59:57Gotta catch em. All gotta catch em, gotta get
- 1:00:00em. Gotta RIP the hearts out.
- 1:00:02Gotta pray to God that we make our money back destiny.
- 1:00:06Rivals Matt's kids aren't gonna eat.
- 1:00:09Yeah, they're gonna have to chew on his leather wallet.
- 1:00:14Become a member. Become a member.
- 1:00:17Computer, computer, computer. Make them become a OK.
- 1:00:21No, a computer me ain't can be. Keep on with the, keep on with
- 1:00:23the. Song.
- 1:00:24Oh, keep going with the song. I probably should have opened
- 1:00:26those before. Thanks though.
- 1:00:28Sorry about that here. I'm going to be, I guess, the
- 1:00:30Joker while you're doing that. I'll be the Joker if he was
- 1:00:33Mormon like Batman. What do you mean I can't have
- 1:00:41multiple celestial wives when I'm in heaven?
- 1:00:46The Batman believes in the. Batman's canonically Catholic.
- 1:00:50The Batman believes in monogamy and he thinks that the
- 1:00:54prophethood. He thinks that the Pope, what's
- 1:00:58his name? Leo Hope Leo.
- 1:01:02The prophethood is clearly extended through Joseph Smith
- 1:01:05and Brigham Young. These are sexy.
- 1:01:08I'm not going to lie, I love. I love PAX so much.
- 1:01:11You love Pax. Some cool stuff.
- 1:01:14I was at my parents' house over the weekend and then we went to
- 1:01:18my grandma's and her. Her second husband fought in
- 1:01:22World War Two, really. And so he had like.
- 1:01:25Side. Good, good guys hide, good guys
- 1:01:29hide American. And he had like this coin bucket
- 1:01:34and I was going through it and there was like a ton of like pre
- 1:01:37World War 2 Japanese currency in there.
- 1:01:40Really. I was just like, wow, like this
- 1:01:41is so sick. Wasn't worth anything because
- 1:01:45they like mass produced it or whatever.
- 1:01:47But it was just kind of like, whoa, like the, the Japanese
- 1:01:49were like a they were a fierce people before World War 2.
- 1:01:54Dude, and we've, we've talked about this before.
- 1:01:56We would like to do kind of like more some like history centric
- 1:02:00episodes where we both kind of pick like an event and kind of
- 1:02:03have like, oh, this is Josh's episode where he talks about no,
- 1:02:08that's nothing. That's all right.
- 1:02:09I mean good Pokémon, good Pokémon, not a good card pack.
- 1:02:12One pack, One pack 11 and done is what I say.
- 1:02:16Oh my gosh, he packed all over the floor, blazing.
- 1:02:19No blazing we should do. But yeah, we want to do episodes
- 1:02:25where we kind of talk about like historical subjects, You know,
- 1:02:28we'll have our, we'll have our bits and our bobs where we're
- 1:02:30joking around, we're kidding around, we're goofing, we're
- 1:02:34goofing. Yeah, no, but it was just cool.
- 1:02:37It was like a time in history is like, Dang, we for real dropped
- 1:02:41two bombs on like a bunch of people.
- 1:02:44You know, what's funny is how my feelings about the the atom
- 1:02:48bombs have kind of like changed throughout the years because I,
- 1:02:52I, I had a time which I'm interested actually to hear your
- 1:02:55thoughts. Then I had a time.
- 1:02:56We're on. The same page here.
- 1:02:58Where I, I had a time where I was very much, I was like, man,
- 1:03:01maybe we overdid it. Maybe we maybe we kind of, maybe
- 1:03:05we kind of did a bit much. And then whenever you learn
- 1:03:07about Japan, what they were doing, what they were planning
- 1:03:11on doing, and they're kind of mindset at the time, there is
- 1:03:14something where it's like we kind of had to put them in their
- 1:03:16place. I remember watching Oppenheimer
- 1:03:19which great film. Nothing, Nothing neither 10
- 1:03:22Let's try. That's OK.
- 1:03:23Sick Pokémon. Though that is, that is dumb.
- 1:03:25That's tough. I remember watching Oppenheimer
- 1:03:28and in Oppenheimer you, you just remember because like you, you
- 1:03:32kind of learn about this stuff in school and if you don't keep
- 1:03:34up with it, it's kind of like mumbo jumbo.
- 1:03:36Sure. Like I was reminded during
- 1:03:37Oppenheimer, like, Oh yeah, we had already defeated Hitler in
- 1:03:41Germany when we dropped the bombs.
- 1:03:44So I was like, what were we still beefing with Japan?
- 1:03:46Like what was going on? And I, I was just kind of
- 1:03:50Googling like, what was Japan doing?
- 1:03:52And it was like, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh.
- 1:03:54They were like invading, you know, the Koreas, China,
- 1:03:58torturing people like. In the worst ways possible.
- 1:04:00Like you can, I'm not going to mention on the pod, you can
- 1:04:03Google it. So it was like they're still
- 1:04:06doing all this. And basically the United States
- 1:04:09had to make the decision of like, hey, we're still in this
- 1:04:12conflict with them, and now they're like in conflict with
- 1:04:14us. So they're not going to stop.
- 1:04:15We either have to invade. No, nothing.
- 1:04:19That's all right, y'all. That's all.
- 1:04:20Right. We either have to invade Japan
- 1:04:23and like then it it's still going to be civilian casualties,
- 1:04:25but now a lot of American casualties or we just kind of
- 1:04:28bomb them and and hope that that works.
- 1:04:31And I guess it worked. So it was like.
- 1:04:32It did work. It was still a very cruel thing
- 1:04:35to do. It's like we're we're doing a
- 1:04:38cruel thing to hopefully make them stop doing cruel things to
- 1:04:40innocent people. It's just, yeah.
- 1:04:43But it. Glad that wasn't my decision.
- 1:04:44I'll say one thing, we did drop the leaflets and I I've recently
- 1:04:48seen something that said that there's this Japanese guy on
- 1:04:52TikTok saying, hey, my great grandparents were there and they
- 1:04:56left because of those leaflets. Oh, we dropped the leaflets,
- 1:04:59Yeah. To clear the area.
- 1:05:00Saying hey, this is going to happen.
- 1:05:03Really. How much in advance do you do
- 1:05:05you know how much? I don't remember, I think it was
- 1:05:07like a couple weeks in advance. Magic.
- 1:05:09That's actually. Crazy.
- 1:05:10Like a week or two. Just like Russia's like, hey.
- 1:05:12To be fair. That would be nuts.
- 1:05:13And the government was like, do it.
- 1:05:15Well, to be fair, believed it. If you if all of a sudden
- 1:05:18leaflets fell out of the sky and they're like, just so you know,
- 1:05:19we're going to bomb this area, obviously, I mean, you're like,
- 1:05:23oh, we'll leave. I'm a head out for a month.
- 1:05:27How many people and maybe, you know, whatever.
- 1:05:30How many people can do that, though?
- 1:05:32How many people also, you're, you're living during a time of
- 1:05:35like literally a World War, the second one that's happened in
- 1:05:38not that many years. And you're, you're probably also
- 1:05:40of the mindset where you're like, well, this is probably
- 1:05:42propaganda. You're you're living in a an, in
- 1:05:45a land in, in a place where they are telling you like they're
- 1:05:48equating the emperor to literally like almost like a, a
- 1:05:52deified being, which how could he be wrong?
- 1:05:54How could he allow anything like this to ever happen?
- 1:05:57So I would imagine, like leaflets aside, there's a lot
- 1:06:02going on for why maybe some people wouldn't escape.
- 1:06:05With that being said, makes sense that a lot of people were
- 1:06:08probably like, hey, let's skedaddle because I don't think
- 1:06:11these Americans are messing around.
- 1:06:14And we weren't. Man, we weren't well.
- 1:06:17One more, two chance, baby. Back at it like a crack addict.
- 1:06:22Hey guys, if you enjoyed this episode, if you really rocked
- 1:06:25with it, you could have watched this like almost a week early if
- 1:06:28you were members on joshandthegiant.com and you can
- 1:06:32do so for as little put the cup down.
- 1:06:34What? Else you can get it Josh and the
- 1:06:36I'm. Gonna crush that in my hands.
- 1:06:37Josh. Give it to me.
- 1:06:38Let me see it. No, please.
- 1:06:40It's mine. Let me see it, though.
- 1:06:41For real. No, I'm not gonna hurt it.
- 1:06:42I'm gonna break it. Give me the I don't like this
- 1:06:46cup, and if you like Josh more than me, you'll buy this cup.
- 1:06:50See what I did? Your cup runneth over.
- 1:06:52Yeah, they're right there. You.
- 1:06:53Just destroy that thing I legitimate anyway.
- 1:06:55I mean you're the giant. I thought you could have broken
- 1:06:58it with your hands. I mean, I could.
- 1:06:59OK, look, I don't want to make a thing out of this.
- 1:07:01Also, I don't want to cut myself, but if I I could break
- 1:07:04this. Yeah, I know I could break this.
- 1:07:06OK, I don't want to get. I don't want to get too dude in
- 1:07:08my head. Josh and the giant
- 1:07:09joshandthegiant.com. Thanks for watching.
- 1:07:12Bye, guys.
