- 0:06Speaker 1: Really, I'm very proud of you, the president of green
- 0:08Speaker 1: Up Vermont, and of course we have can Alberghini leading
- 0:11Speaker 1: the charge with the k ing Up the more organization
- 0:14Speaker 1: that was formed to really take keep the initiative going
- 0:18Speaker 1: that I'm very proud to say here and here to
- 0:19Speaker 1: my heart that my father started fifty six years ago,
- 0:23Speaker 1: scared at the very first screen Up Day in nineteen
- 0:26Speaker 1: seventy according to that position by under the Datus at
- 0:29Speaker 1: the time. And so our sort of unspoken mission, I
- 0:34Speaker 1: guess is to.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Put ourselves out of business right.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And but I think we all share the astonishment that
- 0:40Speaker 1: every year we go out with a green bag for
- 0:42Speaker 1: freeom to day and we see that we are very
- 0:44Speaker 1: much needed still. So thanks to all of you and
- 0:47Speaker 1: our amazing marketing partners that we've been here from today
- 0:51Speaker 1: for getting out there uh every green Up Day and
- 0:53Speaker 1: many many days in between. I see a lot of
- 0:55Speaker 1: bags after already to keep Vermont green. It's just it's
- 0:58Speaker 1: such an amazing part the right time.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Brand image and so.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Important to the Lamont way of life and just the
- 1:04Speaker 1: way Vermantas are and speak of the way Lamantas are.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm very proud to introduced our first speaker, who I've
- 1:11Speaker 1: known since he first got the legislature in the House
- 1:14Speaker 1: and then the Senate. I would then Legislator John Lodgers,
- 1:18Speaker 1: who now is bringing his common sent points of Vermonterers
- 1:23Speaker 1: to the Lieutenant Governor's office, which is fantastic.
- 1:26Speaker 2: We're so honored to have him here and so that I'll.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Turn over to Lieutenant Governor Rogers.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Thanks, thank you Parker, and thank you Kate. And I
- 1:37Speaker 3: really want to thank all the sponsors for this great
- 1:40Speaker 3: event because what comes up before mayflowers, it's green garbage
- 1:45Speaker 3: bags put out all over the state by Green Up Vermont.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It's something that myself and my family have taken part
- 1:52Speaker 3: in in our community for many years, and it is
- 1:55Speaker 3: really amazing and shows the true community of Vermont to
- 1:59Speaker 3: see every community pulling these events together and cleaning up
- 2:04Speaker 3: the roadsides because Vermont is literally one of the most
- 2:08Speaker 3: beautiful places in the entire world, and to keep it
- 2:12Speaker 3: that way, we need to keep the garbage picked up.
- 2:16Speaker 3: It is absolutely amazing to see the wonderful art that
- 2:19Speaker 3: our students have brought. And I understand we're gonna hear
- 2:23Speaker 3: a great jingle here shortly. But I'm just super proud
- 2:29Speaker 3: of the state of what Greenup has done for the
- 2:32Speaker 3: state of Vermont, for the appearance, appearance, to keep it
- 2:36Speaker 3: beautiful for our tourists and the people who live here.
- 2:40Speaker 3: It's just an amazing effort by Vermonters. Again, thank you
- 2:44Speaker 3: to all the great sponsors listed over here. We couldn't
- 2:47Speaker 3: do it without you. This is something that Vermont is
- 2:51Speaker 3: truly proud of. And I'm not sure if I'm supposed
- 2:55Speaker 3: to introduce Kate Ris Parker's going to but next we've
- 2:58Speaker 3: got our fearlessly Kate coming up.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Thank you, Thanks light Factor, thank you all. Thank you
- 3:08Speaker 4: Lieutenant Governor for being here today and your comments. Thank
- 3:13Speaker 4: you to the Berlin Mall and Walmart for hosting us
- 3:16Speaker 4: this morning. We come together today to kick off the
- 3:21Speaker 4: fifty sixth annual Green Up Day. Green Up Day is
- 3:26Speaker 4: so much more than a statewide volunteer effort to keep
- 3:29Speaker 4: our landscape litter free. It is a point of pride
- 3:33Speaker 4: for those that take action to protect where we get
- 3:36Speaker 4: to live, work, and play. It is a teaching and
- 3:38Speaker 4: learning experience for generations, past, present, and future that nurtures
- 3:45Speaker 4: community engagement and good citizenship. And it is an activity
- 3:51Speaker 4: that empowers people of all ages because picking up litter
- 3:54Speaker 4: is something that everyone can do with relative ease that
- 3:59Speaker 4: truly makes an impact for the environment. Cleaning up roadsides,
- 4:04Speaker 4: roadside litter protects our way of life beyond the one
- 4:07Speaker 4: day of volunteerism called the Green Up Day. Clean environments
- 4:11Speaker 4: protect human health, our wildlife and our domestic animals. Clean
- 4:16Speaker 4: streetscapes enhance property values and business success. Clean natural landscapes
- 4:24Speaker 4: keep Vermont's two billion dollar outdoor tourism industry flourishing. Vermont's
- 4:31Speaker 4: economy depends on this, which means we all depend on
- 4:35Speaker 4: this in some way. Everything about our actions on Green
- 4:40Speaker 4: Up Day and year round are connected to our cherished
- 4:44Speaker 4: way of life. So how do we get people to
- 4:47Speaker 4: stop littering? That's the question that I'm asked every year.
- 4:51Speaker 4: We need lots of voices, young and old, to be
- 4:56Speaker 4: sharing how about how much Green Up Day and our
- 4:59Speaker 4: gen up state of mind matters to our climate. We
- 5:03Speaker 4: need lots of hands to join in and take part.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Cleaning our planet is the epitome of many hands make
- 5:11Speaker 4: light work with big impact. Once you take part in
- 5:15Speaker 4: a green Up Day, something within changes. You will never
- 5:20Speaker 4: throw a piece of trash on the ground, you will
- 5:22Speaker 4: never step over a piece of drash, and you'll bend
- 5:25Speaker 4: over to pick it up. Just to clean the environment.
- 5:28Speaker 4: We always notice how much trash lines the roads wherever
- 5:33Speaker 4: we're driving around, and Green Up Day was built to
- 5:37Speaker 4: take care of that ugliness and really bring Vermont's beauty
- 5:42Speaker 4: out with this mindset. When this mindset becomes contagious, there
- 5:50Speaker 4: will be less litter on our roadsides. I'm incredibly proud
- 5:55Speaker 4: that Vermont's concerted efforts on Green Up Day will clear
- 5:58Speaker 4: the entire state road system of litter, making it the
- 6:02Speaker 4: cleanest and healthiest state in the nation. In twenty twenty five,
- 6:08Speaker 4: twenty five thousand volunteers achieve ninety seven zero point five
- 6:13Speaker 4: percent of all city and town roads cleaned. That's about
- 6:17Speaker 4: twelve thousand, five hundred miles of approximately thirteen thousand miles.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Our goal this year, our challenge to volunteers is to
- 6:29Speaker 4: encourage a friend, a family member, a coworker to get
- 6:35Speaker 4: outside with them and clean an extra half mile, and
- 6:39Speaker 4: with that we will achieve one hundred percent of all
- 6:43Speaker 4: roads cleaned in Vermont. This is totally doable. Together is
- 6:48Speaker 4: how we'll clean up Vermont. Together, we will build ongoing
- 6:52Speaker 4: stewardship for the environment, for stronger climate restoration. Together we
- 6:58Speaker 4: will make a very important impact. I would like to
- 7:02Speaker 4: thank and recognize our Board of Directors Parker Really, he's
- 7:07Speaker 4: our president, VP, Aaron Deztel, Treasurer Corina Costello, Mark Hakey
- 7:13Speaker 4: joins us today. Thank you, Brinn Oakleaf, Denise Palmer, Nick Neely,
- 7:18Speaker 4: Kelly Stettner, Lucas Herring, Jean Richards, and Meg Borocks. They're
- 7:25Speaker 4: a very enthusiastic group of people that keep me on
- 7:28Speaker 4: track and keep things going very very well for green
- 7:32Speaker 4: Up Vermont. I would like to thank the State of
- 7:36Speaker 4: Vermont AOT because they help the district garages help distribute
- 7:41Speaker 4: all of these green up bags all over the state.
- 7:46Speaker 4: I usually get smiles when my husband and I show
- 7:49Speaker 4: up with the U haul trailer packed with the green
- 7:52Speaker 4: up bag boxes. And they've also been very busy cleaning
- 7:58Speaker 4: the state highways and inter states. I would like to
- 8:02Speaker 4: thank code for BTV, who works on the Greenup app.
- 8:06Speaker 4: And then of course there are two hundred and fifty
- 8:10Speaker 4: two cities and towns, each with a volunteer town coordinator,
- 8:14Speaker 4: and without them, I would not be able to lead
- 8:17Speaker 4: this effort. They are the boots on the ground in
- 8:21Speaker 4: our cities and towns and they really make it happen.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Greenup is so thankful for our corporate partners who support
- 8:31Speaker 4: our efforts not just with financial contribution, but also with
- 8:35Speaker 4: action from large corporations to small businesses. It takes all
- 8:39Speaker 4: of us working together. We have over fifty Vermont business
- 8:44Speaker 4: partners this year, the highest in Greenup's history. They see
- 8:49Speaker 4: the value in partnering with Greenup, and we value them
- 8:54Speaker 4: so much in sharing their stories of sustainability sustainable practices. Again,
- 9:01Speaker 4: it takes us all working together. We're very pleased to
- 9:05Speaker 4: welcome Walmart as a partner this year who donates both
- 9:09Speaker 4: treasure and time by encouraging employees to participate in green
- 9:14Speaker 4: Up Day by giving them paid hours. It is my
- 9:18Speaker 4: pleasure to welcome Joe Millerer, digital marketing manager here at Walmart.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Ay, Good morning, everybody. I don't know if I need to,
- 9:32Speaker 2: This is pretty easy to speak to and even when
- 9:35Speaker 2: we're doing introductionly we're all here for a common goal
- 9:39Speaker 2: and for us, for Walmart, one of our floor values
- 9:42Speaker 2: and being a good neighbor. So coming together with this
- 9:45Speaker 2: and seeing this grow is just tremendous. And it's not
- 9:48Speaker 2: only coming out and doing the task. What we enjoy
- 9:51Speaker 2: doing is coming out, getting the whole store out in
- 9:54Speaker 2: the community and actually interacted with the neighbors as we're
- 9:59Speaker 2: going down the street and we're cleaning up. So it
- 10:01Speaker 2: actually is we had some fun to it, and we
- 10:04Speaker 2: enjoyed talking to the neighbors, but we also enjoyed talking
- 10:07Speaker 2: to our customers because we're out there. We've been doing
- 10:11Speaker 2: this now for a couple of years. I gotta go
- 10:13Speaker 2: hats off to Sarah Brown, the store manager. Just started
- 10:17Speaker 2: off at a smaller event and it just grew and
- 10:20Speaker 2: it grew to the point where it just getting encompassed
- 10:23Speaker 2: the leadership.
- 10:23Speaker 4: In the store.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It went to the associates, and now it's actually going
- 10:27Speaker 2: through the associates family. So it is actually really enlightened
- 10:31Speaker 2: to see how this grows. And I think you spoke
- 10:33Speaker 2: to that. I was just saying how this fans out
- 10:35Speaker 2: and spreads out. So very proud to be here today,
- 10:39Speaker 2: very proud to support what we've got going on here.
- 10:42Speaker 2: It'll be very interesting. I would tending around with the
- 10:44Speaker 2: associates in the store at Sarah, You're gonna see a
- 10:47Speaker 2: transition of Walmart when we go out there, because it
- 10:49Speaker 2: would be taking off our Walmart best. We're putting on
- 10:52Speaker 2: our safety best and we'll be going out with your bee.
- 10:55Speaker 2: So thank you for letting us be a part of
- 10:56Speaker 2: this great event.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Thanks Joe. All right, we have all these kids standing
- 11:09Speaker 4: up here today that believe wholeheartedly in Green Up Day
- 11:15Speaker 4: and have put efforts forward in our four contests. We
- 11:21Speaker 4: host a video contest which is judged by WCAX on
- 11:26Speaker 4: air talent John McMahon. The student winners of that contest
- 11:31Speaker 4: could not be here today. They're pre K students from
- 11:34Speaker 4: the Penn Program in Rochester, Aspen F and Sequoia M.
- 11:41Speaker 4: The Jingle contest, which is judged by Great Eastern Radio
- 11:48Speaker 4: on air talent Betty b and Stevens Blanchard, along with
- 11:52Speaker 4: Naomi Perik of the Great Point Foundation. Hazel A, Natalia
- 12:01Speaker 4: and Chloe are here today. We're missing Ronan. They are
- 12:05Speaker 4: fourth graders from the Sustainability Academy in Burlington and their
- 12:10Speaker 4: teacher is Abby Marin, and we're going to listen to
- 12:15Speaker 4: their jingle here.
- 12:32Speaker 5: O ye, do any of you wanna say a few
- 13:01Speaker 5: words about how you developed the song?
- 13:04Speaker 6: Some also for.
- 13:09Speaker 7: We our school in our grade, they had this like
- 13:15Speaker 7: say where we all have this musical goal, and when
- 13:19Speaker 7: we figured out about this, concast me, Nachalia, May and
- 13:25Speaker 7: Chloe and Ronan kind of came together and wrote the song. Well,
- 13:33Speaker 7: Rona wrote like a little bit update and so we
- 13:38Speaker 7: when we won, it was like competing our musical goal.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Fantastic, thank you so much.
- 13:45Speaker 8: Yeah, and kind of like wi a message like.
- 13:50Speaker 7: This, like we want to like give a message to people.
- 13:54Speaker 6: And I'm like, do you think that it is safe?
- 13:56Speaker 7: It's better than keeping it trash, cause if.
- 13:59Speaker 6: You feel more, goold the ocean and like other places
- 14:02Speaker 6: during the world, like the plains.
- 14:03Speaker 7: Will die when turtles will grunstant because we'll die. We'll
- 14:08Speaker 7: play with trash and everything the great would.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Speak a better attention to help you.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Thank you so much, you wanna come.
- 14:20Speaker 7: So when we heard about this, we were like, good, right,
- 14:23Speaker 7: didn't you When we heard about this.
- 14:26Speaker 8: We said yes because all of us loved to sing
- 14:28Speaker 8: and we love to treating songs and it's just a
- 14:31Speaker 8: great message bring out to your mom that we should
- 14:36Speaker 8: people trash and nothing.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Yes, there has been a poster contest since nineteen eighty
- 14:54Speaker 4: and we renamed it a couple of years ago when

- 15:07Speaker 4: is judged by David Cheats, who's a curator at the
