- 0:10This is the Predator's official podcast here on Nashville
- 0:13Predators YouTube, ESPN1O25, The game and your preferred podcast
- 0:18platform Mid Olympics edition. As the Preds get ready to hit
- 0:22the ice next Thursday in the return from the Olympic break on
- 0:26February 26th. We've got tons of Olympic
- 0:28updates coming your way. And also in about 15 minutes, an
- 0:32interview with Predators head team physician Dr. Lance Leclair
- 0:37and also Preds player Michael McCarron talking about the
- 0:40inside work between a NHL medical director, team doctor
- 0:44and NHL players from our friends at Vanderbilt Health.
- 0:47It's going to be a lot of fun. Thanks for joining us here on
- 0:49The POP. My name is Max Herz from Preds
- 0:52Radio along with Brooks Bratton from nashvillepredators.com.
- 0:55Brooksy, the Olympics have been a treat so far.
- 0:58We are recording here on Thursday, February 19th.
- 1:01Some people will be hearing this after the Olympics are over or
- 1:04after some games that we're going to talk about have already
- 1:06happened. We are talking right now the USA
- 1:08women have won the gold medal with a dirty overtime goal for
- 1:12Megan Keller and we are headed into the men's semifinals on
- 1:16Friday the 20th and the gold medal game on Sunday the 22nd.
- 1:20But boy, have these hockey tournaments delivered in the
- 1:22Olympics. I'm still trying to collect my
- 1:25thoughts after what we just watched, as you said, as we
- 1:27record on Thursday afternoon after Megan Keller just ended it
- 1:31in overtime for the USA. We were here watching it in the
- 1:35office at Bridgestone Arena, and I hope nobody was on a meeting
- 1:39nearby because I was hooting and hollering.
- 1:42Let me tell you, I'm surprised I still have vocal cords,
- 1:44honestly, because it's not often that we get to cheer for a game,
- 1:47right? Like when we're watching it, you
- 1:49can't really cheer. I mean, maybe more so a little
- 1:51bit for you when you're broadcasting Max, but I'm
- 1:53sitting in the press. They can't be jumping up and
- 1:55down and hooting and hollering. So, yeah, what a what a showing
- 1:59for the US women to capture gold.
- 2:00Canada gets the silver as they beat them in overtime.
- 2:04And combine that with the men's games that we have seen so far.
- 2:08And my goodness. I mean, we talked about it,
- 2:10especially when the Olympics roll around.
- 2:13And obviously this is the first time in 12 years at the NHL has
- 2:17been to the Olympics. But international best on best,
- 2:20I don't think it gets better than that.
- 2:22Not only from a simple perspective of a fan watching
- 2:25the game, but for growing the game, right?
- 2:28We, you know, folks like us that are in the sport, myself
- 2:31especially, I'm biased, but I think hockey's the greatest
- 2:33sport in the world. And when you have the eyes of
- 2:36the world on the game that you love, it's really a special
- 2:39thing. And that's what you get come
- 2:41Olympic time. And yeah, we're going to be
- 2:43riding a high of this whole episode after the women captured
- 2:46gold there. But yeah, you mentioned at the
- 2:48he's doing quite well at the Olympics, too.
- 2:50Yeah, we've got Preds headed into the Olympic semifinals
- 2:53tomorrow. UC Soros will be in net against
- 2:56Team Canada for Team Finland. Eric Holla has had a great
- 2:59tournament as well. And the Fins had a pretty crazy
- 3:03comeback against Roman Yossi and Team Switzerland in the
- 3:06quarterfinals on Wednesday. I thought Yost and the Swiss
- 3:10were going to get it done. Brooks, man, were they close to
- 3:12advancing to the medal round. But Finland came back and got
- 3:16him. Yeah, no, I did too.
- 3:18I mean, I think we knew going in of what Roman Yossi meant to
- 3:23Team Switzerland. He was their captain.
- 3:25He was the only Preds player that has been there previously
- 3:29to the Olympics, his second Olympics this time around.
- 3:32But boy was he good. And every time you watch
- 3:35Switzerland and they had a couple of 5:00 AM Central Time
- 3:38games and I was up for those two.
- 3:40And, you know, a little bleary eyed at that hour of the
- 3:42morning. But Yost really wakes you up
- 3:45when he gets going on the rush. And yeah, what a pleasure to
- 3:48watch him. You realize how much he drives
- 3:50that team. He, you know, when he gets in
- 3:52that setting, we get the pleasure of seeing him every
- 3:55night. But on the international stage,
- 3:57you realize that, yeah, he is the best Swiss player not only
- 4:00on that team, but the best Swiss player of all time.
- 4:03And just what he does for that team, driving the offense and
- 4:06then being sound on the defensive side of the puck as
- 4:09well. Unfortunately, as you said, it's
- 4:11it's so weird too, right? Like, fortunately,
- 4:14unfortunately, yes. You're happy that you see Soros
- 4:16and Eric Collar advancing, but you're sad for Roman and I, you
- 4:19know, we don't want to confirm this or anything, but you
- 4:22imagine it's probably his last Olympics unless he keeps playing
- 4:25for four more years, which never say never.
- 4:28But you have to think when you watch that it's just tough to
- 4:32see a journey like that come to an end this time around.
- 4:34And former Preds forward Kevin Fiala, of course, ended up with
- 4:38a couple of leg fractures in the game against Canada as well.
- 4:41So a tough break there for Switzerland.
- 4:44And they had a great little run. And again, Roman Yossi is is
- 4:47certainly the catalyst behind that team.
- 4:50So it was fun to watch him play. And we got to see a little bit
- 4:52of Philip Forsberg play as well once he got going in the line up
- 4:55there. Yeah, we've heard it from a lot
- 4:59of people now. Barry Trots, Andrew Renette,
- 5:01Steven Stamkos. Nobody really knows why Philip
- 5:04Forsberg barely played in the first couple of games for
- 5:07Sweden, but he took it like a good teammate from all accounts
- 5:10and what we've heard in the media coming from Italy.
- 5:12And when you play Philip Forsberg, Philip Forsberg scores
- 5:16as Team Sweden is finding out. But they were not able to beat
- 5:19Team USA, a really close game. USA won in overtime in the
- 5:23quarterfinals. So USA versus Slovakia in the
- 5:27final and we will see the the two eliminated Preds Olympians,
- 5:31Philip Forsberg and Roman Yosi, the two best players in Preds
- 5:34history, will be back sometime in the next few days for a
- 5:38practice or two before the Preds returned to action on Thursday.
- 5:41So it's been a lot of fun. I hope everybody's been
- 5:44watching. Congrats again to the US women
- 5:46on their big gold medal. Third gold medal for Team USA.
- 5:50Man, this is the best team they've ever had.
- 5:53I know that 98 team was special, but this is this is the best
- 5:57women's team that Team USA has ever had.
- 5:59And they took down Canada. So I think you can make the
- 6:02pretty easy argument that this is the best women's Olympic team
- 6:04ever from any nation. Well and anytime they play
- 6:07Canada in recent memory they have gotten the victory and
- 6:10you'll remember earlier in the Olympics when the US women face
- 6:13Canada, it was a 5 nothing game and it really wasn't a contest.
- 6:17And I don't know that anybody thought this cold medal game was
- 6:19going to be another blow out like that.
- 6:21But for the US it took him over 58 minutes in regulation to
- 6:25score a goal. I'd also don't know that anybody
- 6:27saw that coming as well, but Canada, and we heard it a lot
- 6:30during the broadcast. There's such an experienced team
- 6:32and maybe you were seeing a little bit of that, a younger
- 6:35faster U.S. team but didn't have the experience in a gold medal
- 6:39game that a lot of the Canadians did.
- 6:41But who else but Hillary Knight, the leading goal scorer an all
- 6:45time for the US women's Olympians, going to the net,
- 6:49tipping in a shot from the point and then Megan Keller with The
- 6:52Dirty goal in overtime. So again, I you know, we touch
- 6:55on it and just the hockey at this time of year is fantastic.
- 6:59And of course, we'd have to mention friend of the show Kevin
- 7:01Morley, who is also still over there with Team USA.
- 7:04I've actually seen him behind the bench a few times.
- 7:06You you don't know like he he's not the head athletic trainer
- 7:10over there. So you don't know is he behind
- 7:11the bench? Is he hanging out in the runway?
- 7:13But he has been on the bench and it's, I don't know, it's just
- 7:16kind of cool when when you're watching a game halfway around
- 7:19the world and it's kind of like Buddy the Elf.
- 7:21I know him to see him on television.
- 7:25They're behind the bench. But yeah, best of luck to Kevin
- 7:28and Team USA, of course, proud Americans.
- 7:30I think we're a little biased cheering for for the Americans,
- 7:33but you know, and for UC Soros as well, like Finland had a
- 7:37little bit of a tough start. They lost in the opening game,
- 7:40and since then, Juice has recorded three straight wins.
- 7:43Eric Hollow with a few assists. And it's just cool to see.
- 7:46I I think all four of these representatives on the ice for
- 7:49the Preds have certainly done Nashville proud.
- 7:54They've all been on the score sheet.
- 7:55They've all contributed in different ways, You know, kind
- 7:58of juice obviously being in that.
- 8:00And it's just been cool to see, you know, we've talked about it
- 8:03so much on the on this show and the NHL going back over there
- 8:07and, and obviously you want your guys to do well, but you never
- 8:10know what can happen. You never know how things are
- 8:12going to play out. But it's been really fun to not
- 8:14only watch them, but to see the guys that we get to see on a
- 8:18daily basis show up on the score sheet, making saves in the net
- 8:23and and doing what they can to to help their countries along.
- 8:26And we know that the Fins, at the very least, you're going to
- 8:29play for a medal, right? There's only four games left,
- 8:32semis on Friday to determine who's in the bronze and who's in
- 8:35the gold. So at the very least, UC Soros
- 8:38and Eric Hollow will have a chance in a medal.
- 8:40And that's really cool. So Congrats to them so far and
- 8:44we'll wrap that up next time when we when we talk to you
- 8:47sometime next week on what actually happens.
- 8:50But yeah, Max, you touched on it as well.
- 8:51Like the guys are back at practice and it's kind of like
- 8:54coming back, you know, for the first day of school, they're
- 8:56coming back for spring break. Like everybody's in a really
- 8:58good mood. That tends to be the case when
- 9:01you have 10 days off and some guys get to the beach and few
- 9:04guys we know got home to Canada and participated in some winter
- 9:08sports with some Olympic fever there.
- 9:10But I don't know about you, but it's it was nice to have a
- 9:13break. But it's been really good to see
- 9:14the guys the last couple of days again, too, and they're fired up
- 9:17to be back. Yeah, and it's a team that
- 9:20really barely got to practice in the 2-3 months before this
- 9:24Olympic break. So the the practice is needed.
- 9:27And as we speak here on Thursday the 19th, the Prince have had
- 9:30two practices back. They are scheduled to have four
- 9:33more on Friday morning, Sunday morning, Monday morning and next
- 9:37Wednesday morning before they play again on Thursday, February
- 9:41the 26th. And they get back to action with
- 9:43a home game against the Blackhawks for the first game
- 9:45back from the Olympics. But yeah, the the first day was
- 9:48puff touches get everybody back up to speed.
- 9:50And then Thursday morning they were able to get hitting a
- 9:53little bit more, had some battle drills and then played a three
- 9:56on three tournament with Olympic style teams there.
- 10:00There are 15 Pred skaters who are not in the Olympics.
- 10:03So it was three teams of five with line changes in three on
- 10:06three. It was Team Ontario, Team USA
- 10:11and the rest of Canada, plus Adam Willsby.
- 10:16Our European numbers, first of all, are very low when the
- 10:19Olympics are going on. We've lost four of our Europeans
- 10:21and we're down to just two right now with Willsby and Eustace on
- 10:25in it. And the goalies were playing for
- 10:27everybody, so we couldn't have a Team Europe.
- 10:29We only had one guy, but it was a spirited 3 on three affair and
- 10:33Team Ontario, led by Steven Stamkos, Michael Bunting, Ryan
- 10:37O'Reilly and Nick Hague and Luke Evangelisa won the three on
- 10:42three. It was a fun day.
- 10:44That's a good crew. That's a good team right there.
- 10:45Not surprising that they won. And I don't know about you, Max,
- 10:49but they, you know, usually it's Centennial when they're going
- 10:51for about an hour or so, they'll start on one side and head over
- 10:55to the other side. So they were back on the rink
- 10:58closest to their locker room, if you're familiar with Centennial,
- 11:01and they had it set up for the three on three.
- 11:03But we had come back over after the first half of practice was
- 11:07done. And who do we see standing on
- 11:09the bench in a referee jersey? But Craig Partner BA, the
- 11:12legendary Predators locker room attendant.
- 11:15I couldn't help but laugh and smile.
- 11:17I I thought it was awesome. And Craig was over there.
- 11:20I think Pete Rogers helped him raise his arm a couple times as
- 11:23guys were calling for penalty shots.
- 11:26But I did he call a penalty the whole time, Max?
- 11:28I think he let the boys play. Partner did not call a single
- 11:31penalty and afterwards Preds coach Andrew Burnett, who I
- 11:34think his partner's number one fan in the universe, said it was
- 11:39probably one of the best officiated games we've had all
- 11:41year and that he thought Partner was exceptional refereeing from
- 11:45the bench. And Team Ontario called Partner
- 11:47out on the ice for a celebratory picture after the win.
- 11:51So he's the commissioner of the league, he's the referee and he
- 11:56didn't call a single penalty partner well.
- 12:00What can't he do Well, and he was, he was bragging a little
- 12:03bit in the room afterward, too. He he knew he was the star of
- 12:06the show. I think Brady Shay gave him some
- 12:08kudos for calling a good game. And I told him I because we had
- 12:12talked to Andrew Brunette and like you said, Max Bruno said
- 12:14probably one of the best officiated games we've had all
- 12:17year. And I, I told Craig, I said, you
- 12:20know, Bruno was said you probably did one of the best
- 12:22jobs he's seen all season. And, and Craig said, Yep, no
- 12:26doubt he he knows. And I think Nick KEGG agreed
- 12:29with that too. But, yeah, and, you know,
- 12:31something like that, I think we knew that they probably weren't
- 12:35just going to skate up and down the ice for five straight
- 12:38practices going into into next week.
- 12:42And it's good to have something like that, right?
- 12:44I, you know, asking brunette about that as well, just to
- 12:46break up the monotony of it a little bit, get the guys going.
- 12:49And as you said, Max, right, like you're getting back into
- 12:52it. Your legs are just a little
- 12:54sore. You're a little weary of, you
- 12:57know, you haven't skated them in a week or so.
- 12:59And that was a fun little nuance to, to Thursday's practice.
- 13:03So there's a there's been good energy.
- 13:06I I think the guys, you know, you appreciate just with how
- 13:09compact the schedule has been. You obviously appreciated the
- 13:12break, but there's that rejuvenation to get back.
- 13:15Now there's only 25 games to go in the regular season.
- 13:18The pressure still very much in the thick of that.
- 13:20They know that they need to come out and continue winning the
- 13:23week, adopt that mantra, keep it going.
- 13:27But there's definitely an excitement there.
- 13:29And I think you'll start to see it ramp up before the games get
- 13:32going again next week. But yeah, it's good to be back.
- 13:35And you know, the weather is warmer here in Nashville and it
- 13:38just feels like springtime. You can see the light at the end
- 13:41of the tunnel, at least as the far as the regular season is
- 13:44concerned. And the guys know what they have
- 13:46to play for. And we're excited to see how
- 13:48that plays out. But it's good to good to get
- 13:51back. It's again, you appreciate the
- 13:52break, but you know this is the Preds are here to to do a job
- 13:56and they're excited to see what they have with 25 games left
- 13:59here. And we'll be back in action on
- 14:01Thursday night, February 26th, for the first game back from the
- 14:04Olympic break on home ice against the Chicago Blackhawks.
- 14:07Coming up next, we have a special interview courtesy of
- 14:10our friends at Vanderbilt Health.
- 14:11And Vanderbilt medical doctor Lance Leclair is one of the
- 14:14Predators team physicians and the head of the Predators
- 14:17medical operation. He will join us along with
- 14:19Predators play Michael McCarron to talk about the medical
- 14:23relationship between NHL players and their medical staff.
- 14:26And you'll hear it from Michael McCarron himself, why he thinks
- 14:30that the Preds and Vanderbilt have the best medical situation
- 14:34of any NHL team due to that valuable partnership with one of
- 14:37the best hospitals in the world. That's coming up next.
- 14:40This is the Predators official podcast.
- 14:42I'm Max Sears from Preds Radio with Brooks Bratton from
- 14:44nashvillepredators.com. The POP here on ESPN1O25 The
- 14:48Game. Welcome back to the predators
- 14:57official podcast here on ESP 1025 the game streaming on preds
- 15:02YouTube and a whole slew of other spots.
- 15:04Brooks, Brad, and alongside my friend Max, her is once more.
- 15:07And Max, this is a first on the POP.
- 15:10I don't think we've ever had two interview guests at one time,
- 15:13but we're excited for this one. So we've got Predator centerman
- 15:16Michael McCarron, who a lot of you will probably recognize a
- 15:19gentleman may not know. However, Doctor Lance Leclair,
- 15:23A-Team physician for the Nashville Predators at
- 15:26Vanderbilt University, and we wanted to get a little bit of
- 15:30the player medical team physician relationship going on
- 15:34this chat. So gentlemen, we're excited to
- 15:36have both of you and and Doctor Leclerc.
- 15:39I'll start out with a few for you here as Max and I get going.
- 15:43One, I guess the obvious question to start, how on earth
- 15:46does 1 become a team position for a National Hockey League
- 15:50team, especially the Predators here in Nashville?
- 15:52Well, thanks, Brooks. I, I think, you know, the
- 15:54question for me is how does, how does the team position end up on
- 15:57the Predators official podcast? I, I'm, I'm a listener, I'm, I'm
- 16:00a fan of the podcast. I never thought I would be a
- 16:02guest. So it's a, it's really
- 16:04incredible to be, to be with you guys today.
- 16:06So thanks for the invitation, but no, I think, you know, I've,
- 16:11I've wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon ever since I was in high
- 16:13school. And the, the draw to being an
- 16:15orthopedic surgeon was the ability to, to work with
- 16:18athletes and keep them on the field of play on the ice and
- 16:22participating in their sport, helping them play the game they
- 16:25love. And that's always been a big
- 16:26draw. And I think, you know,
- 16:29orthopedics, that's an essential component of what we do.
- 16:32And there's a sub specialty field within orthopedics where
- 16:35you could do an extra year of training and, and spend time in
- 16:38the sports medicine environment. And there's a lot to learn in
- 16:42that year, But that's kind of the career path.
- 16:44But I think above all, you've got to be somebody who's
- 16:47interested in in working with a team and helping athletes
- 16:50achieve their goals. And I think when when you start
- 16:53with that, then it's a lot of mentorship, a little bit of luck
- 16:56and, and some hard work along the way.
- 16:58And I've certainly been the beneficiary of some great
- 17:00mentorship and some great opportunities and just happened
- 17:03to come my way and couldn't ask for a better scenario.
- 17:06Being the the medical director for the National Predators.
- 17:08It doesn't get any better than that.
- 17:10So, Doctor Leclair, what all does your role with the Preds
- 17:13entail, both on a day-to-day throughout the year and
- 17:16specifically when there's a game going on?
- 17:18Well, I think first and foremost, our primary
- 17:21responsibility ability is to keep the players healthy and on
- 17:23the ice. And, and you know, a lot of that
- 17:25is preventative, you know, helping make sure that we have
- 17:28systems in place along with Kevin Morley and the sports
- 17:31medicine staff to do everything we can to keep them performing
- 17:34at their very best. And then I think, you know,
- 17:37everybody knows unfortunate and unfortunate part of sports and
- 17:40especially a sport like hockey is that injuries are part of the
- 17:43game. We try to minimize that as much
- 17:45as we can. But a big part of what we do is
- 17:48help these guys get back on the ice when they as soon as we can
- 17:51help them achieve their goals of getting back to play with their
- 17:54teammates. But also keeping in mind that we
- 17:56want to keep them healthy for the long term so that they can
- 17:59eventually retire from hockey on their own terms and not because
- 18:01of a medical reason. We also have to make decisions
- 18:04that help keep them healthy for when they're, you know, older in
- 18:07life and they're teaching the sport to their kids and their
- 18:09grandkids. And so those are our big
- 18:11responsibilities is first and foremost, doing the best things
- 18:13we can, best thing we can for our athletes and our players.
- 18:17And I think a lot of that is the partnership and the
- 18:20relationships. And that's the really important
- 18:22part of what we do is team positions.
- 18:24You can't be a good team position if you're if you don't
- 18:26have that relationship built on trust for the players and with
- 18:30the with the organization and most especially with the the
- 18:33athletic training staff. That's where we're really lucky
- 18:36at Vanderbilt to work with Kevin Morley and DJ Amario, Jeff
- 18:41Biddle and and Doug Agnew because that's just, you won't
- 18:43find a better staff than in the NHL than those guys.
- 18:46And so the ability to work with them to, I joke with my wife at
- 18:50the beginning of every season, Kevin kind of moves above her in
- 18:53the speed dial because Kevin and I talk more than my wife and I
- 18:56do during the season because we're constantly checking in on
- 18:58the guys and seeing what we need to do to keep them, keep them
- 19:01healthy and on the ice. Friend of the show Kevin Morley,
- 19:04by the way, another recent reviewee over in Milan at the
- 19:07Olympics right now. But Lance, you touched on it
- 19:09there. Obviously, the goal is to help
- 19:12the players remain healthy. We want everybody on the ice.
- 19:15So how do you approach that role?
- 19:18What is kind of the the mindset that you have as as a team
- 19:22physician, the medical director for the Preds when you're
- 19:25dealing with things of this nature?
- 19:26Well, first you have to assemble a good team.
- 19:28You know, my, my specialty is orthopedics and you know, I do
- 19:32surgery on shoulders and knees. But you know, we have, we have
- 19:35eye injuries. We have, we have hip injuries,
- 19:38we have, you know, General Medical issues.
- 19:41And so you first got to build a really good team because we want
- 19:43to get our athletes in the hands of the best possible medical
- 19:47providers that we can. And so we have to assemble a
- 19:50good team. And thankfully at Vanderbilt, we
- 19:52have the opportunity to really bring in some world class
- 19:54experts in their fields. And so we built a really good
- 19:57team that makes the best, best possible medical personnel
- 20:00available to the to the players. And if you see us at the game,
- 20:03you'll see there's we, we've got a pretty big group.
- 20:06We've got about eight of us in the stands that are there to
- 20:08help support the guys from all different sub specialties.
- 20:12And I think the second goal is that we want to, we want the
- 20:16players to know that we're here for them.
- 20:18You know, we want to build that trust and a lot of that goes
- 20:22into, you know, I don't want the first time that one of these
- 20:24guys sees me or beats me to be, you know, when they've come off
- 20:28the ice with an injury. I want to be around, I want to
- 20:31see them. I want to develop those
- 20:32relationships that so that they know who I am.
- 20:35And I know our whole medical staff does the same thing.
- 20:37We want to build that relationship.
- 20:38So these guys know just inherently that our primary goal
- 20:41is to keep them healthy and keep them on the ice, support the
- 20:44organization as best we can. So it's a lot of relationship
- 20:48building and just building that trust that, hey, we're looking
- 20:51out for you, we got your back. That's Doctor Lance Leclair, the
- 20:54Predator's medical director from Vanderbilt Health.
- 20:56And Doctor Leclair, you mentioned it there.
- 20:58The team doctors sit in the crowd when the game is going on
- 21:02and then go down when they're needed.
- 21:04What is it like getting the bat signal and having to rush down
- 21:07after you see an injury to go and help somebody?
- 21:09Sometimes we, we have a heads up, you know, obviously we can
- 21:12see what's unfolding on the ice, but you really don't know what
- 21:15you're what you're going to walk into in the evaluation room
- 21:17until you get down there. And you know, you kind of just
- 21:20get yourself ready mentally to get in the right headspace to do
- 21:24the best you possibly can to help our athletes and our
- 21:26players. We do take care of the other
- 21:28team too, because they're guests and they don't, most NHL teams
- 21:31don't travel another, they don't travel their own physicians.
- 21:34We also take care of the reps So we're kind of comprehensive care
- 21:37for everybody. So you're, you're, you're
- 21:39mentally just getting yourself ready for OK.
- 21:41Am I going to order X-rays? And like, do I need to get a
- 21:43laceration kit? Do we need to get plastics down
- 21:46here to show up a, a laceration? What are we, you know, kind of
- 21:49assembling the needs of what we need to do to take care of the
- 21:53of the team? Talking to Doctor Lance Leclair
- 21:56and Pred Center Michael Mccarran here on the Preds official
- 21:58podcast. And Mac, let's get you in here.
- 22:01So I want to know the player physician relationship.
- 22:05It's I, I would imagine it's probably someone you don't
- 22:09necessarily want to talk to because that probably means
- 22:11you're dealing with an injury. But as we said, it's part of the
- 22:14game. How do you view the player
- 22:17physician relationship when you as a player need?
- 22:20Care. Well, yeah, I think you just
- 22:21said it like usually if you're chatting with them about
- 22:25something, it's it's not good, but at the same time, they're
- 22:30nothing but but great to have. I've been here for six years.
- 22:33I mean, I've gone through some injuries here myself, nothing
- 22:35serious, knock on wood. But you know, every time I pop
- 22:39in, I try to say hi. They're always very welcoming
- 22:41and and very easy to talk to. And for instance, let's say you
- 22:46have, you know, you come off with a bad groin after the first
- 22:51period, you know, they're going to be in there.
- 22:53You can go in and chat with them and they can kind of see how you
- 22:56are, what, what's going on, like the likelihood of going back,
- 23:00what would, what would happen or if they would shut you down.
- 23:04So, you know, with me being here for six years now, it is great
- 23:08to know them, you know, personally and professionally.
- 23:12So it's, it's really easy to talk to them.
- 23:16I, I try to tell the young guys and, and guys who haven't been
- 23:18here to, to get in here and to get into the trainer's room and,
- 23:21and, and say hi because you never know when the time is that
- 23:24you're going to need them. And it's usually not at a great
- 23:28time. So if there's a personal
- 23:29relationship there, it is. Makes it a little bit feels more
- 23:32like home, I'd said. Well, Mike, you mentioned it
- 23:34there like the, the, the personal relationship that you
- 23:37want to have with someone. And again, like we said at the
- 23:40top, it's the you, you don't necessarily think about the team
- 23:43physician all the time, but as a player, how do you view the
- 23:47importance of the role of the team doctors?
- 23:49How vital are they and helping you get back to full strength
- 23:53after suffering an injury? Well, yeah, it's, I mean, it's
- 23:55huge. We have a, we have a medical
- 23:56staff that, that travels with us full time and, and you guys
- 23:59mentioned it, Kevin Morley and his team, but they're not
- 24:02necessarily doctors. They can't, you know, they can't
- 24:06order an X-ray or order an MRI. You know, most likely they're
- 24:09calling Lance or we have a few other doctors that are around
- 24:14that are always on call. Like do you have, I got a bad
- 24:17hit to the head in a game. I have to go through what's
- 24:20called concussion protocol and Kevin can put me through that.
- 24:23But there also needs to be a physician on the line.
- 24:25So, you know, I remember, I don't know if you did 1 Lance
- 24:29with me recently, but I just had one, I think in Calgary.
- 24:33But yeah, so they're huge. You need them.
- 24:36You need them a part of your team.
- 24:39Like kind of what I said about the groin, Like they can, they
- 24:43can determine whether, you know, it's safe to go back and play or
- 24:47not. And you know, their their
- 24:50decisions have been, you know, pretty, pretty spot on over my
- 24:53six years here, nothing crazy has happened where on other
- 24:55teams you hear about all these, you know, crazy stories.
- 24:59I think here with Vanderbilt, the Vanderbilt staff, I mean,
- 25:03they're world renowned for a reason.
- 25:05And we have the best of the best here and we're very lucky as
- 25:07Predators players. Talking with Predators medical
- 25:09director Doctor Lance Leclair and Preds player Michael
- 25:12Mccarran. Doctor Leclair, what is
- 25:14something you think people would be surprised to know about your
- 25:17role as a team physician? Well, I think I, I don't know
- 25:21about surprise, but I think this probably is least surprising if
- 25:25you're a fan of the Predators. But I think probably probably
- 25:28the thing that's been most gratifying.
- 25:30I'm relatively new to the role. I just got here into into
- 25:33Nashville about five years ago. But the thing that's been
- 25:36incredibly rewarding is being a part of the organization.
- 25:39Just how the leadership from the top down supports the players,
- 25:43supports the medical staff and really is just a world class
- 25:47organization. Like I said, I don't think
- 25:49that's a surprise to anybody. But it's really been eye opening
- 25:52for me as a team position to see, you know, to see everybody
- 25:56just in lockstep and in terms of, you know, going about their
- 26:00business with the high level of excellence and really trying to
- 26:02do the best thing to to win Stanley Cup and and do
- 26:06everything to support the players.
- 26:09I think in terms of just the day-to-day surprise might be
- 26:12just all hours of the phone when the phone calls come in and the
- 26:16text messages and some of the strange scenarios that you hear,
- 26:19you know, sometimes in the offseason of like, wait, what
- 26:22happened? But we're always we're always
- 26:24available and always on call. Your best attribute as a team
- 26:27position is your availability and just being available to
- 26:30answer the call when it comes in.
- 26:33You know, I, I think there's probably some stories that we,
- 26:36we can't share over the airwaves that just surprising from a
- 26:39medical perspective, but you're always ready to help and, and
- 26:43jump in and support where needed.
- 26:45Michael, we've heard it before as well, and you just kind of
- 26:47touched on it like getting in the room, getting to know the
- 26:50doctors, the trainers, that sort of thing.
- 26:52But like from an organizational standpoint, as a player, how
- 26:56important is it to know not just your teammates and not just the
- 27:00coaches, but as you said, the trainer's, the support staff,
- 27:04everybody else around you? Because there's so much more
- 27:07that goes into it than just the guys on the bench, as you well
- 27:10know. And I think most of our fans
- 27:12would probably presume that. But how important is it for you
- 27:16to just get to know everybody in the organization because
- 27:19everybody has their role and kind of makes everything tick.
- 27:23Yeah, you just kind of said it makes everything tick, makes the
- 27:25world go around. Our trainers, our medical staff,
- 27:28our even our equipment guys too. Like we don't have those guys.
- 27:32We don't go on the ice. Same with medical.
- 27:34Like if we're if our bodies not working at at you know, 100%
- 27:38we're not going to have a great game individually.
- 27:42It is great to know them. I think the predators number
- 27:45one, I think we have a really family based style organization,
- 27:50which I mean the doctors, the trainers, everybody's always
- 27:54invited to, to, to to parties. We just had a big Christmas
- 27:59party. It was great to see, you know,
- 28:02Doctor Leclair and and his and his family come and and support
- 28:08and be with the players and our wives and our families.
- 28:11I like how it's very family orientated.
- 28:13Our organization. I think Barry's done a great job
- 28:15with. That and Lance will finish on
- 28:17this one. What is maybe a loaded question,
- 28:20but what's the best part about being a team position in the
- 28:24National Hockey League for the Nashville Predators?
- 28:26What do you get out of it the most?
- 28:28I think it's the sense of supporting somebody in in
- 28:30achieving their goals. I think it's, it's really
- 28:33gratifying. I mean, my, I love sports
- 28:35growing up, but I knew my athletic career was fizzling
- 28:38shortly after high school and I realized I wasn't going to get
- 28:40any taller than five, nine and a half and my arms are really
- 28:43short and that my athletic career was over before it
- 28:46started. But to be able to support these
- 28:48world class athletes that are the best in their craft in the
- 28:51world and see them achieve their goals and live out their
- 28:54childhood dreams and knowing that you're it's a small part,
- 28:58but playing a small part and helping them achieve their
- 29:00goals, especially in their times of need, when they're injured or
- 29:03when they have something going on medically.
- 29:05It's so gratifying to be a small part of that and to lead a team
- 29:09that does an excellent job of, of dedicating themselves to
- 29:13these athletes and this organization and achieving their
- 29:15goals. It's really incredible.
- 29:17And, and it translates to my practice.
- 29:19I mean, so many things that we learn on the field or or on the
- 29:24ice in terms of we want to push the frontiers of sports medicine
- 29:27and, and that's what these athletes help us do.
- 29:29And we learn so much from our day-to-day and taking care of
- 29:33them that we take directly into our office and then into our
- 29:35surgical suites and operating rooms to to help us take care of
- 29:39our patients. So it's really mutually
- 29:40beneficial. It works both ways, but it's at
- 29:43at the end of the day, it's really about seeing these guys
- 29:46succeed. And nothing makes me happier
- 29:48than if I have got it. I've got a guy who's post op
- 29:51that, that scores a goal, you know, that I've operated on and
- 29:53I see him score a goal or, you know, lay down a big hit and
- 29:57then the shoulder holds up and you're like, oh man, that was
- 30:00awesome. That was great, You know, And so
- 30:02to see that, to see the the guys to win achieve their goals, to
- 30:07be on the ice, living out their childhood dreams, there's
- 30:09nothing better than, you know, just supporting that that
- 30:11effort. We love seeing the shoulders
- 30:13hold up. But Doctor Leclerc Mack, thanks
- 30:15for doing this. It's it's been great to get some
- 30:17insight. We appreciate both of you taking
- 30:19some time and hopefully everybody stays healthy.
- 30:22But we know if the if the guys need care that they're in good
- 30:25hands. But thank you both for doing
- 30:26this. We really appreciate it.
- 30:27Yeah. Thanks for having us.
- 30:29Thanks for having us. Doctor Leclair, we'll see you in
- 30:31a couple weeks or about what is it, 6 days?
- 30:34Yep, Yep. See you soon all.
- 30:36Right. Bye, guys.
- 30:36He's ready. Michael Mccarron's ready to go.
- 30:38Gentlemen, thanks again for joining us today.
- 30:41We'll be back in just a moment here on the Preds official
- 30:43Podcast on ESPN 1025 the game and Preds use.
- 30:54Welcome back to the Predators official Podcast here on ESPN
- 30:571025 The game streaming on Fred's YouTube.
- 31:00I'm Brooks Bratton alongside my friend Max Herr is back with you
- 31:04on the program. Our thanks once again to Doctor
- 31:06Lance Leclair and Michael McCarron.
- 31:09As we said, you don't want to really go see the doctor, but
- 31:11when you have to, you know that they're in good hands.
- 31:13And Max, you're a proud Vanderbilt alum.
- 31:15You got to be happy with the the care that is being provided.
- 31:19Yeah, I go to Vanderbilt Medical for many different types of
- 31:23doctors. That wasn't a very medically
- 31:26eloquent sentence, but I do. And I first of all, thank you to
- 31:31Doctor Leclair for listening to the podcast, which he says he
- 31:34does all the time. And I really wanted to ask him
- 31:36who his favorite Preds player was and see if he was going to
- 31:39say Michael McCarron while Michael McCarron was here.
- 31:41But I restrained myself. Well done.
- 31:43Well, Mac asked me on Thursday during practice.
- 31:47He's like, what Is that OK? Did I do OK?
- 31:49It's like Mac, you did great. We're amazing.
- 31:51He crushed it. Now we're we're grateful to them
- 31:53for giving us some time. So thanks again to them for
- 31:56shedding a little light there. You, Max, alongside our friend
- 32:00Willie Donnick, hosted Smashville Live on Wednesday
- 32:03night and had Barry Trotz on the show, which she's been in the
- 32:07news a little bit lately. Of course, we spoke a lot about
- 32:10him a couple episodes ago as he announced his plans to retire,
- 32:14but you and Willie got more into that during the show.
- 32:16And I know it's always great to talk to Trots.
- 32:18He always gives you a ton of great stuff, but there was
- 32:21something in particular that we wanted to touch on here today.
- 32:24Yeah, Mary Trots opened up a little bit in front of a great
- 32:27crowd of Preds fans at Brewhouse S on Wednesday night.
- 32:31About his specific reasons and kind of the timing of his
- 32:35decision to retire. You know, there's a number of
- 32:37things. I, I wasn't very healthy last
- 32:39year. I had a lot of people don't
- 32:41know, I had like 5 eye surgeries at 2 hospital stays even.
- 32:44You guys didn't even know a lot of that.
- 32:46And you know, it was a real tough year.
- 32:49And then, you know, I had some family things with my father and
- 32:52my wife's mom back in, in Canada.
- 32:55It's not easy where they live for us to get there.
- 32:59And then you know, when I, when I signed on to to do this job a
- 33:03few years ago, I said to ownership, I will let you know
- 33:06that my intentions if I get to the end of the contract, if I go
- 33:10further or, you know, as soon as I know what my end date is, I, I
- 33:17will let you know. And I, it really hit me when I
- 33:20went to Sweden. Actually, we went over to Sweden
- 33:28the played in the, the global series gaming the Penguins.
- 33:33We had a couple days off and it actually is my granddaughter's
- 33:355th birthday. And they happen to be in, in
- 33:38Spain with the, they do world school.
- 33:42So they travel and they, they, they live in different areas of
- 33:45the world. They're going to Japan.
- 33:47And in September. And it was her 5th birthday just
- 33:51happened that I was in Stockholm.
- 33:53We had some days back and I said, you know what?
- 33:55We're we got we're not even going to be on the ice for a
- 33:57couple days. I'm going to go for 5th birthday
- 34:00in Spain. And so I traveled from Stockholm
- 34:03to to Spain, southern Spain, spent about 36 hours, my
- 34:09granddaughter's 5th birthday. And then on the way back, it
- 34:14sort of clicked into me a little bit that that was, it was her
- 34:185th birthday is the only second time that I've even been around
- 34:22for her, her birthdays. And that sort of started setting
- 34:27in even more with me and then all the other stuff that that
- 34:31comes along with that. So that's when I really, really
- 34:35started thinking about it. And then when I met with Bill
- 34:38Haslam on, on, you know, as I do on a pretty regular basis, I
- 34:42early December, I said, you know, Bill, I, I've really been
- 34:45thinking about this hard. I haven't even told my family
- 34:47yet, but I'm going to tell you because I'm going to probably
- 34:52just go to the end of my my contract and and then I'm going
- 34:55to retire. And we talked about it.
- 34:58You know, when do you do it in this, in this, in this business?
- 35:03A lot of thing is June 30th. And I said, you know, usually
- 35:05they, they look at it in the spring, but I said what I'm
- 35:08finding out. And you, you see it all the
- 35:09time. Social media, you guys are so
- 35:11good at finding all the rumors. No one can keep their mouth shut
- 35:14anymore. It's maybe maybe let's do
- 35:15something a little untraditional and just say, you know, this is
- 35:18what we we're going to do. And this is I'm giving myself an
- 35:20end date. And so we did that and caught a
- 35:25lot of people off guard. I didn't really tell my own
- 35:29family till about 48 hours before.
- 35:32So that's a long answer from Barry Trotz about his decision
- 35:35making, deciding to retire as Preds GM and Brooks we we have
- 35:40not heard that from Barry Trotz before coming back from Sweden.
- 35:44First of all, it is so cool that his grandkids go to World
- 35:47school. I want to go to world school.
- 35:49But that he got to see one of his grandkids for a 5th birthday
- 35:55get together in Spain. And on the flight home he just
- 35:59thought, I've been there for two out of five birthdays for a
- 36:02grandbaby And I don't want it to be two out of 6.
- 36:05I want it to be 3 out of six and four out of seven and five out
- 36:08of 8 and so on. And that's when it really hit
- 36:10home. So more of the back story for
- 36:13the emotion that Barry Trotch showed as he decided to retire
- 36:16from hockey. Yeah, no, that was really eye
- 36:18opening. And I you, you appreciate
- 36:21somebody like Barry opening up like that.
- 36:23And you know, he, he doesn't have to reveal any of that,
- 36:26obviously, but I love that he was willing to give a little bit
- 36:30more of a back story in there. And just as you said, Max, the
- 36:33way that he was feeling when it hit him, I mean, we, I was in
- 36:36Stockholm, I had no idea that he was even gone.
- 36:38I love that he I was kind of a revelation to be like, wow, he
- 36:41went to Spain and Sweden all within a 3648 hour stretch
- 36:46there. But yeah, that's again just to
- 36:49to get him to open up like that and get a little bit more
- 36:51insight into that situation. And like you talked about last
- 36:54season 2, not great on the health spectrum.
- 36:57I guess it was there was a lot of speculation that maybe he was
- 37:00retiring because of health. He said this time around that
- 37:02he's feeling great, no health issues whatsoever.
- 37:05But you never know what that sort of thing too.
- 37:08So, yeah, great to hear from Trotzi there.
- 37:10And we saw him back at practice on Thursday as well.
- 37:13So he's back in the building. He spent the break in Washington
- 37:15with some more grandchildren. So it's good that, you know, we
- 37:19heard Andrew Brunette a few weeks ago, call him Papa Berry
- 37:22and Papa Berry. Papa Berry has certainly been
- 37:24making the rounds lately, so great to see.
- 37:27Yeah, and I appreciate the honesty from Berry Trotz as
- 37:30well. You can hear that full show on
- 37:33the Preds Radio podcast page from 102.5 The Game separate
- 37:37podcast page from where we are to hear that whole hour with
- 37:40Barry Trotz talking about Preds past and present as he goes
- 37:43through what we expect to be his final season as the Preds GM
- 37:47before he retires when a successor is named, potentially
- 37:50as soon as the draft this summer.
- 37:53Brooks, it has been a long Olympic break.
- 37:55We're 2/3 of the way done with it and we have had many Preds
- 37:59birthdays that we have to shout out.
- 38:01So it's birthday time. First off, happy birthday to our
- 38:05missing Co host Kara Hammer who partied too hard and had to miss
- 38:10this episode because she had such a great birthday but we
- 38:12love her so much. I know, shout out to Hammer, who
- 38:17told us that she doesn't have a voice and it's kind of hard to
- 38:19do a podcast if you don't have a voice.
- 38:21She's not well, sure, she's not feeling well.
- 38:25She's under the weather. But our our best to Hammer and a
- 38:28belated happy birthday there again imagining she she partied
- 38:32hearty and enjoyed herself. So happy birthday to Kara.
- 38:35But a lot of birthdays in the press room too.
- 38:37Yeah, Kara's age is redacted, by the way.
- 38:41We're not allowed to say what it is, but it was a big milestone.
- 38:44We're going to say 30. All right, here's some creds
- 38:47player birthdays for you as well.
- 38:49Friday, February 6th. Happy 21st birthday, Matt Wood.
- 38:55Saturday, February 7th twin birthdays.
- 38:58Two of the most popular players in the NHL who were both happy
- 39:01to call hours. Happy 35th birthday to Mr. Uncle
- 39:04Factor Ryan O'Reilly and happy 36th birthday to the oldest
- 39:11player on the Nashville Predators, Stephen Stamkos, who
- 39:14after practice the first practice back from the Olympic
- 39:16break, said first practice as a 36 year old hit hard and not in
- 39:21a good way. So happy birthday to old Man
- 39:24Stammer, one of the top 20 leading goal scorers in NHL
- 39:27history. Then perhaps the biggest
- 39:30birthday of them all, Nashville's most beautiful
- 39:32person Luke Evangelista turns 24 on Saturday, February 21st.
- 39:39Pretty boy Vincenzo is growing into a pretty man right before
- 39:42our eyes. To be 24 again, I can't even
- 39:45imagine. And then I have so much closer
- 39:47to Steven Stamkos is 36. I can only imagine.
- 39:51I don't know, I'm at the age where I get out of bed and
- 39:53something hurts, something new is wrong every single day.
- 39:56I can only imagine being a professional athlete.
- 39:59But that's why we have people like Doctor Leclerc and Kevin
- 40:01Morley around to keep them in tip top shape.
- 40:04Even if you are 36 years old, 36 years young for Steven Stamkos,
- 40:08the way he's playing right now. We do also want to recognize one
- 40:12of the most important days on the Preds calendar.
- 40:15It is recognized on the wall at Tin Roof on Demumbrian St.
- 40:18February 15th is Scotty Upshaw Day.
- 40:21So happy Scotty Upshaw Day to everybody out there.
- 40:23One of the most important days on the Preds calendar.
- 40:26It's on the wall at Tin Roof, you know that it's worth making
- 40:29a note of. Absolutely.
- 40:31All right, we're going to take a break, come back, give out our
- 40:33biggie, awesome person of the week.
- 40:35We'll see if it's any of their birthdays as well.
- 40:37And Brooks has some Preds Olympic trivia coming up next on
- 40:41the Predators official podcast. 4th and final segment of this
- 40:52episode of the Predators Official Podcast back here on
- 40:55ESPN1O25, The Game and Preds YouTube.
- 40:58Brooks Bratton and Max Hurst here with you.
- 41:00And as we wrap up our birthday segment, we wanted to get into
- 41:05another awesome segment as we crown our biggie, awesome person
- 41:09or Persons of the week and Max appropriately again, we're still
- 41:13on a high from a gold medal for the US women and I think it's an
- 41:17obvious choice. Yeah, the the Big E awesome
- 41:20people of the week. I wish Aaron Donic were here to
- 41:23be freaking out at all the hockey going on right now.
- 41:25She would be going nuts for the US women's hockey team that just
- 41:29won the gold in the Olympics on Thursday.
- 41:31So the Big E is going to be split.
- 41:34How many players are there? 2424 ways?
- 41:38I believe so. That was awesome, an amazing
- 41:42display, a great sort of women's sports and women's hockey and
- 41:46great for USA Hockey. Incredibly well done and so much
- 41:50fun to watch. I mean, they took care of
- 41:52everybody along the way, including Canada.
- 41:55The first time. Marie Philippe Poulin didn't
- 41:57play in that first game, so you knew that wasn't the real full
- 42:01Canada gold medal game effort and Canada almost got him.
- 42:05But Hillary Knight tied it up with two minutes left.
- 42:07Megan Keller won it with a dirty goal in overtime and the US
- 42:10women win gold. So the USA men as we record this
- 42:14are two wins away from trying to do the same.
- 42:16We will see if they can get it done and get the Big E next week
- 42:20and maybe also a big medal, but most importantly the Big E in
- 42:24memory of Arandonic. Absolutely Congrats to the US
- 42:27women for being just awesome, especially this time around.
- 42:32Speaking of the Olympics wanted to end on this and we love
- 42:34trivia and our friend Yanni Kekolainen, Predators finished
- 42:39scout sent me a direct message on Instagram.
- 42:42He replied to one of my stories, ironically sharing, I've been
- 42:45sharing all of the Team USA victory stories from USA Hockey
- 42:50on my page. And he replied to one of those
- 42:52and just simply said, there are three coaches at the Olympics
- 42:55who had played for the Preds or drafted by the Preds.
- 42:58Can you name them? Would make a good quiz for your
- 43:01broadcast or social media. And I said, Yanni, I will
- 43:04absolutely talk about this on the podcast.
- 43:06So again, 3 gentlemen who have played for or been drafted by
- 43:11the Preds, can you name all three of them?
- 43:14Max, if you get the third one I will be floored.
- 43:16Well, I was worried you didn't tell me the trivia question in
- 43:19advance, which is good. That's how I like it.
- 43:21I was worried there are going to be more than three because I
- 43:24know 3 so I know them all. Really.
- 43:27OK. I do.
- 43:29Or do you know one that Yanni doesn't?
- 43:31Know. Because I know this third one is
- 43:34really obscure here. I think I do know it.
- 43:38OK, go. For it, we're going to go in
- 43:39order from least obscure to most obscure.
- 43:42The head coach of Team Slovakia, Vladimir Orszag, former Pred,
- 43:48that's one. Former Preds Olympic player,
- 43:51Assistant coach for Team Germany.
- 43:53Former Preds defenceman Alexander Sultzer who was in the
- 43:57Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver when he was on the Preds.
- 44:00And the last one, I only know because a fan pointed this out
- 44:05to me when I tweeted the Slovak roster sheet that had Vladimir
- 44:08Orszag on it because I hadn't realized he was the head coach.
- 44:11And you can tell me if this is wrong or if this is a mystery.
- 44:144th, The goaltending coach for Team Slovakia, Jan Laysak.
- 44:19Very brief. Former Pred.
- 44:21Is that not one of the three? That's not who I have, so there
- 44:24is a mystery. 4th But he's so he's the goaltending coach.
- 44:28He's the goaltending coach for Team Slovakia, and he played six
- 44:31games for the Preds in the early 2000s.
- 44:33Played much more for the Admirals.
- 44:36OK, so there's another tie in and so This is why this one is
- 44:39what? Country.
- 44:39What country is the 4th? 1:00 I might be able to get it.
- 44:42Latvia, but again, either played for or drafted.
- 44:46He never played, he was simply drafted.
- 44:48Then I probably don't know. Yeah, that's why I was going to
- 44:51be floored if you got this. So the the 3rd or the 4th
- 44:54mystery person participant, if you will, is Laura Starzen.
- 44:59She was drafted in the ninth round, Yanni Kekalainen says in
- 45:032003. And I've got him pulled up here.
- 45:06He was indeed drafted by the Predators way back in 2003,
- 45:09268th overall in a round that doesn't even exist anymore.
- 45:14He is a coach with the Latvian national team.
- 45:17He was a forward back in the day.
- 45:20So there you go. Thanks for throwing Yann
- 45:22Lysack's name in there, because that was not one that Yanni
- 45:25Kekalainen. Mentioned Yanni.
- 45:27Yanni, we got 4. He's selling a lot for it.
- 45:30I'll have to call him out, maybe I'll just shoot him a message or
- 45:32I'll wait till I see him in person here at the end of the
- 45:34season. But Yanni Kekkalainen again, our
- 45:37finished scout for the Predators has been here a heck of a long
- 45:41time. And honestly one of the reasons
- 45:44why there's a Pekkarine statue out in front of Bridgestone
- 45:47Arena. So shout out to Yanni
- 45:48Kekkalainen, appreciate the DM, appreciate him providing us with
- 45:51some trivia. That was a fun way to end it.
- 45:53Well him and I both got 3, so I think that's a tie.
- 45:58I think so too, and good for you for throwing in an extra
- 46:01participant there. I honorary mention for the Big E
- 46:03Awesome. Yeah, shout out to the fan who
- 46:05replied that to me. It was one of our regulars, but
- 46:07I don't have Twitter open in front of me right now to see who
- 46:10it was. But there we go.
- 46:11Well, there, there may be a fifth out there that we're
- 46:13missing too, so. If you if you know of any
- 46:16others, please send us a message.
- 46:18Get a hold of us somehow. Well, enjoy the rest of the
- 46:21Olympics, Preds fans. The gold medal game is Sunday
- 46:24morning and we will be back with Preds hockey on Thursday night,
- 46:27February 26th home game at Bridgestone Arena against the
- 46:30Chicago Blackhawks. And it is our second Hockey
- 46:33Fights Cancer night of the season with a focus on our
- 46:35pediatric cancer fighters from Monroe Carroll Junior Children's
- 46:39Hospital at Vanderbilt. We'll have a podcast back for
- 46:41you next week as well, recapping the Olympics and getting you
- 46:44back into Preds hockey. It'll be a busy week.
- 46:47It is five games in the 1st 8 days back for the Preds,
- 46:52including three home games in Smashville.
- 46:54So we will see you there for Brooks Bratton, our producer
- 46:57Nate Baker and the whole crew here at The POP.
- 46:59My name is Max Herz Thanks for listening to Preds Hockey and
- 47:02the Predators official podcast on ESPN 102.5 The Game.
