Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Now, nearly 5 million Floridians no.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Longer pay taxes on Social Security. That's thanks to our
- 0:08Speaker 2: hard work. Thanks to what we've done, we've put.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Thousands of dollars back into the pockets of ordinary Floridians,
- 0:23Speaker 1: from our retirees to our young families who are just
- 0:25Speaker 1: starting to get their footing.
- 0:28Speaker 3: All right, that's Vice President J.D. Vance on the campaign trail,
- 0:31Speaker 3: stumping for Byron Donalds in the great state of Florida. And,
- 0:35Speaker 3: of course, the American economic boom, which is increasingly a
- 0:40Speaker 3: strong message. Anyway, let us bring in, under Governor Ron DeSantis,
- 0:44Speaker 3: the Florida economy has grown nearly $ 1. 8 trillion, with nearly
- 0:50Speaker 3: 4 million new businesses created. Since 2019, Florida, a prosperous
- 0:55Speaker 3: place with virtually no taxes. Joining us now, Florida Congressman,
- 1:00Speaker 3: Republican governor nominee, my good friend Byron Donalds. Byron, welcome.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Thanks for coming on Sunday Morning Futures. We appreciate it.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Your race looks close. I don't know. Likely voter poll
- 1:11Speaker 3: a few days out shows basically toss up between you
- 1:15Speaker 3: and David Jolly. The Wall Street Journal this morning is
- 1:20Speaker 3: running a big piece on you, actually two big pieces
- 1:23Speaker 3: on you. And one of them asks repeatedly, Byron, whether
- 1:27Speaker 3: you support Donald Trump, OK? So, I'm going to give
- 1:31Speaker 3: you a chance to respond. I don't understand a whole piece.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I mean, it went on for 2,000 words. Do you
- 1:37Speaker 3: support Donald Trump, or are you running away from Donald Trump?
- 1:42Speaker 4: LARRY KUDLOWSKI Larry is going to be with you. No,
- 1:44Speaker 4: I support the president. I'm grateful to have the president's
- 1:46Speaker 4: endorsement to be Florida's next governor. I'm also honored to
- 1:50Speaker 4: have Governor DeSantis' endorsement to be Florida's next governor. Our
- 1:53Speaker 4: campaign is focused on the people of Florida. We are
- 1:56Speaker 4: going to address affordability issues around insurance, around housing costs,
- 2:01Speaker 4: around prescription drugs in the state of Florida. We are
- 2:04Speaker 4: going to have concrete strategies. We have them. They're on
- 2:06Speaker 4: our campaign website right now for people to go and
- 2:08Speaker 4: look at them. We're covering everything from common sense reforms
- 2:12Speaker 4: in Florida's regulatory system when it comes to insurance, building
- 2:15Speaker 4: on the work that Governor DeSantis has already done to
- 2:18Speaker 4: lower premiums 20% in our state. It's about permitting reform.
- 2:22Speaker 4: at state and local levels, because we all know, Larry,
- 2:24Speaker 4: the longer it takes to build a home, the more
- 2:26Speaker 4: expensive the home is. We want to have permitting reform
- 2:29Speaker 4: in the state of Florida to lower those costs. And
- 2:32Speaker 4: on the ballot, the people of Florida will decide in
- 2:34Speaker 4: 30 days, Amendment 3. I support it. I think the
- 2:37Speaker 4: voters of our state, the homeowners of our state, they
- 2:39Speaker 4: need relief from property taxes that have nearly doubled in
- 2:42Speaker 4: Florida over the last seven years. And so these are
- 2:45Speaker 4: things that we think are in the best interest of
- 2:47Speaker 4: the state of Florida. Compare that to my opponent, who
- 2:50Speaker 4: doesn't want to see People have lower property taxes. And
- 2:54Speaker 4: his hurricane plan is a government takeover, his insurance plan,
- 2:57Speaker 4: government takeover of insurance. It will actually leverage a tax
- 3:01Speaker 4: on all Floridians who hold insurance policies in our state
- 3:05Speaker 4: because his plan simply does not work mathematically. He doesn't
- 3:08Speaker 4: have the funds to put it together. And so what
- 3:11Speaker 4: it will result is a tax on everybody in Florida
- 3:14Speaker 4: when the next hurricane comes.
- 3:16Speaker 3: You know, Byron, Governor DeSantis did a good job. Florida
- 3:20Speaker 3: is a very prosperous state. Florida is a magnet. People
- 3:24Speaker 3: from the north moving to Florida. Business is absolutely terrific.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Ken Griffith is a perfect example of all that, what
- 3:31Speaker 3: he's doing with Carnegie Mellon, bringing them to Miami and
- 3:34Speaker 3: so forth. You know, there's an old saying, if it
- 3:36Speaker 3: ain't broke, don't fix it. And the national economy is
- 3:40Speaker 3: absolutely booming under Mr. Trump's tax cuts and deregulation. If
- 3:44Speaker 3: it ain't broke, don't fix it, Byron. I mean, why
- 3:47Speaker 3: should people change horses in midstream in Florida?
- 3:52Speaker 4: Actually, Larry, they should not. If you look at our state,
- 3:55Speaker 4: we're the best in America. People continue to come to Florida.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Our university system is the best in the country, number
- 4:01Speaker 4: one in small business formation. We are a law and
- 4:04Speaker 4: order state. We're a common sense state. So many people
- 4:07Speaker 4: have chosen Florida to get away from New York, from
- 4:10Speaker 4: New Jersey, from Massachusetts, from Illinois and California. Why would
- 4:14Speaker 4: you bring in the same type of leadership that destroyed
- 4:17Speaker 4: those states, that made those states unlivable, made those states unsafe,
- 4:21Speaker 4: made those states less affordable? In Florida, we want to
- 4:25Speaker 4: continue to build the Florida dream in our state. build
- 4:28Speaker 4: on top of the great work of Governor DeSantis these
- 4:30Speaker 4: last eight years.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I mean, just one aside quickly. I'm sure you'll nurture
- 4:34Speaker 3: this as governor. What Ken Griffin is doing with Carnegie
- 4:37Speaker 3: Mellon to bring high technology, a great university to Miami.
- 4:42Speaker 3: It's a $ 3 billion pitch, $ 2 billion for Miami, $ 1
- 4:46Speaker 3: billion for Pittsburgh. These are game-changing things. Now, he wants
- 4:50Speaker 3: things to stay the way they are. Florida is a low-tax,
- 4:53Speaker 3: deregulatory state.
- 4:57Speaker 4: That's right, and we're going to continue to be that.
- 4:59Speaker 4: And I think, Larry, it's important for you were talking
- 5:01Speaker 4: about at the top about the economy. Wages have been
- 5:03Speaker 4: rising in Florida just like they've been rising in the
- 5:05Speaker 4: United States. The president's agenda around no tax on tips,
- 5:09Speaker 4: no tax on overtime, and the largest tax cut on
- 5:11Speaker 4: Social Security has helped Floridians keep $ 3, 200 more in their
- 5:17Speaker 4: pocket as opposed to giving it to the federal government.
- 5:19Speaker 4: And for small business owners, what we passed in the
- 5:22Speaker 4: president's agenda actually kept small business taxes low We made
- 5:26Speaker 4: those tax cuts permanent in federal law. The Democrats wanted
- 5:30Speaker 4: to see small business taxes increase in our country, which
- 5:34Speaker 4: would have directly impacted small business owners in the state
- 5:36Speaker 4: of Florida. But then when you come down to Florida
- 5:39Speaker 4: in our state, we are a business friendly state that
- 5:42Speaker 4: people continue to choose because we follow common sense conservative policy.
- 5:46Speaker 4: And as long as we continue to do that as
- 5:48Speaker 4: Florida's next governor. The best days in our state are
- 5:51Speaker 4: ahead of us.
- 5:52Speaker 3: They're not over yet. All right. Optimistic Congressman Byron Donalds
- 5:56Speaker 3: running for governor of Florida. Thank you, Byron. Appreciate it
- 5:59Speaker 3: very much. Good luck on the campaign trail. Be sure
