- 0:00Speaker 1: So your alphabet soup folks, yet a month and then
- 0:03Speaker 1: a week and then a month, but fathers only get
- 0:05Speaker 1: a day. I'm calling bullish. One more thing. I'm one
- 0:11Speaker 1: more thing. I mean, you.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Enjoy cursing too much. I love it.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I love it.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Oh my god, I gotta stop out. Hanson has enough
- 0:25Speaker 1: to do without bleeding my filth. I enjoyed it, though.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Wow that felt good anyway. Uh sue, It's funny. I
- 0:34Speaker 1: hadn't even thought that thought in the introduction until I
- 0:40Speaker 1: thought it. Fathers get a day, but we get a
- 0:44Speaker 1: month of alphabet soup. I like to screw the alternate people.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What I don't think that's the society is this. I
- 0:53Speaker 2: think that's the point of Pride Month.
- 0:55Speaker 1: And that's it's all due respect to my my gay
- 0:58Speaker 1: friends who are uniformly with the meme I saw the
- 1:04Speaker 1: other day. LGB is all we need. The rest is
- 1:07Speaker 1: not us well.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And it's not just a month, as you know, there
- 1:11Speaker 2: are a whole bunch of other weeks and days around
- 1:14Speaker 2: the same theme throughout the years, so it's not just
- 1:18Speaker 2: a month time one hundred.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And forty a year. Yeah, but fathers get a day.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And the reason that's popped into my mind is we
- 1:25Speaker 1: have some kind of Father's Day related stuff, and you know,
- 1:28Speaker 1: maybe it would have been better then because fathers only
- 1:31Speaker 1: get one day. Then you ought to shut up about
- 1:33Speaker 1: the importance of fathers.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Hey, you weren't here on Friday when Katie and I
- 1:37Speaker 2: and Michael had the discussion that we've had for many
- 1:39Speaker 2: years of looking for a Father's Day card and trying
- 1:42Speaker 2: to find one that's not a joke about flatulence or
- 1:45Speaker 2: drinking beer or watching TV. Mother's Day cards are all
- 1:50Speaker 2: you know, there are some joke Mother's Day cards, but
- 1:52Speaker 2: there's tons of how important and valued and crucial mothers are.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Dad's Day cards are all joke about.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah what I just said, Yeah, yeah, very innoy true.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So anyway, why would be we be in the least
- 2:09Speaker 1: hesitant to continue Father's Day thoughts or respect or that
- 2:13Speaker 1: sort of thing. Let's begin with Clip Tenant's Tristans Casas.
- 2:18Speaker 1: He's a Boston Red Sox player telling a story about
- 2:21Speaker 1: his dad.
- 2:22Speaker 4: So I'm in coach pitch, and you know, I'm so young,
- 2:26Speaker 4: i don't really know what's going on at this point. Still,
- 2:28Speaker 4: I'm still just playing baseball just to burn calaries and
- 2:30Speaker 4: get out there and get some son right right. And
- 2:34Speaker 4: you know, I get out one day and I come
- 2:36Speaker 4: back to the dug out crying, pissed. And you know,
- 2:38Speaker 4: that's that's what a six year old does. He sits
- 2:40Speaker 4: on the bench and he cries and he doesn't want
- 2:42Speaker 4: to go out there when you know his team's playing defense.
- 2:46Speaker 4: So my dad, you know, be the dad that he
- 2:48Speaker 4: is trying to teach me the lessons that he did
- 2:50Speaker 4: in his own special way, came into the dugout. He
- 2:53Speaker 4: actually grabbed me by my shirt, dragged me to the line,
- 2:56Speaker 4: and looney Tune style kicked me out onto the field.
- 2:59Speaker 4: And I actually had one of my best friends that
- 3:01Speaker 4: I went to high school with later he ended up
- 3:03Speaker 4: playing pro ball. His mom actually called child services on
- 3:06Speaker 4: my dad at the field. No, no, no, for there's no
- 3:10Speaker 4: joke at the field. I see my dad go away
- 3:12Speaker 4: in the cop car, gets arrested. Stend the nice and jake.
- 3:14Speaker 4: But that day, that day, my dad taught me a
- 3:17Speaker 4: super valuable lesson that not not a lot of people know.
- 3:21Speaker 4: And it's that I had a responsibility to my teammates,
- 3:23Speaker 4: I had a responsibility to my coaches, to the parents
- 3:25Speaker 4: that showed up that day, all the fans who were
- 3:28Speaker 4: at that little league game, whatever it may be, to
- 3:31Speaker 4: go out there and give my best effort, no matter
- 3:33Speaker 4: how I was feeling on the bench, no matter what
- 3:35Speaker 4: I was going through that day, or whatever little hardship
- 3:38Speaker 4: that I was feeling when I got out, that I
- 3:40Speaker 4: still apply every single time, because sometimes I just want
- 3:42Speaker 4: to sit down on this bench after I get out,
- 3:44Speaker 4: and I want to weave and I want to cry.
- 3:45Speaker 4: But that's that's not how baseball is. So yeah, I
- 3:49Speaker 4: love my dad to death. I wouldn't have this opportunity
- 3:52Speaker 4: without him. But yeah, funny little excerpt. That's the type
- 3:56Speaker 4: of my dad is.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So that's true.
- 4:01Speaker 1: That I like the looney to its references.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It is an amazing story that took a turn though.
- 4:07Speaker 2: She called CPS and the japent the night in jail.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Wow, did not see that coming. Wow. Yeah, that
- 4:17Speaker 1: is a good story.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I also like the fact that he's six and he
- 4:21Speaker 2: said the reason he was playing was to burn.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Glories and to get some sun.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I never thought about that when I was six, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: I better work off this pomp tart.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Cool. Wow, that second shot with chip Cookie was totally unnecessary.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna go play some baseball. Yeah, that's that's funny.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It reminds me of a conversation we've had before that
- 4:43Speaker 1: you know, the the and it's a cliche and certainly
- 4:46Speaker 1: the roles overlap. But when little Johnny skins his knee,
- 4:50Speaker 1: Mom is, oh honey, oh no, and Dad's like, you'll
- 4:54Speaker 1: be fine, You'll be great, and that whole And I
- 4:58Speaker 1: remember my dad was my baseball coach a lot too,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and he would come out to the mound when I
- 5:02Speaker 1: was pitching, and I've said this, told this story before too.
- 5:05Speaker 1: He'd say get this guy out or I'm gonna pull you.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And it wasn't cruelty. It was a way to focus
- 5:12Speaker 1: me and to say, you know, you have a job
- 5:15Speaker 1: to do. Here is what it is. I'm not out
- 5:19Speaker 1: of here. I'm not out here to tell you everything's
- 5:21Speaker 1: going to be okay, because telling you go do it
- 5:26Speaker 1: is telling you everything's going to be okay. Telling you ay,
- 5:29Speaker 1: you're fine, go run and play is It's a empowering
- 5:33Speaker 1: message to look at me a man, demand even as
- 5:38Speaker 1: like a fifteen year old, and say focus, get this
- 5:41Speaker 1: guy out.
- 5:42Speaker 5: That's it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: That's a compliment.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Then, shift we've experienced yeah, i'd say, oh yeah, I can't.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Plus, you know, as I've said before, I was like, you,
- 5:56Speaker 1: damn right, I'm getting this guy out. You're not pulling me.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And it's just it. That's what coaching is, That's what
- 6:02Speaker 1: man to man coaching is. Now it can cross the
- 6:05Speaker 1: line into being an a hole if you're a bad coach,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but was a very good coach.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I don't know. Anxiety. It's going to cause anxiety.
- 6:13Speaker 3: This is reminding me of a story my dad told me.
- 6:15Speaker 3: He played football in high school and my grandfather, his
- 6:18Speaker 3: dad was a surgeon, and my dad took a cleat
- 6:21Speaker 3: to the shin during a game and my granddad sewed
- 6:24Speaker 3: him up in the team team locker room and then
- 6:28Speaker 3: said get your ass back out there.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And this was during the Civil War.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much, I as well been mid sixties. On
- 6:40Speaker 1: the other hand, Katie, do we need any setup for
- 6:44Speaker 1: clip twelve?
- 6:45Speaker 3: No, this is just where we're headed if this woke
- 6:48Speaker 3: crap continues.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Hey, non binary offspring, Hey, non gender specific parent. Just
- 6:54Speaker 5: wanted to let you know that dinner is ready if
- 6:56Speaker 5: you can send to it. Of course I don't. I
- 6:59Speaker 5: don't consent. Well, I was thinking maybe in an.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Hour or so.
- 7:02Speaker 5: If you're up to it, me and your other non
- 7:03Speaker 5: gender specific parent can sit in the living room and
- 7:05Speaker 5: breathe for a little bit if it doesn't trigger you.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Of course, you know, I'm not sure if I'm triggered
- 7:09Speaker 5: by that or offended. I quite honestly, I don't know
- 7:12Speaker 5: what to feel anymore. Trust me, I don't know either. Honey.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Oh my god, did you just call me honey? Oh
- 7:17Speaker 5: my god? I am so sorry. That's harassment. Please don't
- 7:20Speaker 5: tweet about this. I already did. Well, it looks like
- 7:22Speaker 5: my career is over. Well, maybe think twenty times before
- 7:25Speaker 5: you talk. We'll have to live on the streets. Well,
- 7:27Speaker 5: that doesn't matter to me, because my feelings are more
- 7:29Speaker 5: important than all of our physical well beings. Okay, well,
- 7:31Speaker 5: I'm gonna go into the living room and cry. I
- 7:33Speaker 5: love you. You don't have to say it back. I'm
- 7:35Speaker 5: not going to.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Wow parent and child in the year twenty sixty.
- 7:43Speaker 3: That's pretty good. I don't know if I'm triggered or offended.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm feeling anymore.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I can't believe that dude's dad spent the night in jail.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, I gotta ask how hard did he
- 7:56Speaker 1: kick him? I don't know. The boy looking back is
- 8:03Speaker 1: he's full of love and he did the right thing
- 8:06Speaker 1: and laughing about it, so yeah he does. I don't know.
- 8:11Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah, yeah, wow, that's quite a story. You know.
- 8:19Speaker 1: They kicked each other pretty hard in those Liney Tunes cartoons.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Occasionally it was borderline brutality. Michael, you're quite right. Well,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I guess that's it.
