Derek Fitzgerald often refers to himself as "We" because he received another person's heart in January 2011. Honoring that donor inspired him to rebuild into his strongest self. He has now completed six Iron Man triathlons and is training for two more this year. He talks with Spanny about the journey from super-fit marching band member to overeater to cancer survivor to a cardiac patient awake only one hour a day, unable to leave his bed … until a still-unknown hero gave him the gift of a future.
