Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for Most Things Kenobi.
- 0:03Shouldn't it be all Things Kenobi?
- 0:21Hi everyone. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:23Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all
- 0:26things Star Wars. I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:29And I'm your host, Leanne. And this week we are finally
- 0:33getting into Tales of the Underworld.
- 0:37We have not watched it. It came out on May the Fourth,
- 0:40which was a long time ago, and it was during Andor, so we
- 0:45definitely just didn't have the bandwidth to address it at the
- 0:50time. So we're gonna do that now.
- 0:52Yes, yeah, and guess who decided to show up?
- 0:58Obi Wan for like no voice. 30 seconds, yeah.
- 1:04No voice, of course not Nothing. Yeah.
- 1:08Very sad, but it was good to see him again.
- 1:11That's for good idea. We paid James Arnold Taylor any
- 1:14more money. Seriously, it's like, come on
- 1:20guys, he'll do one or two sentences for you.
- 1:23Look at what he did for us. Yeah, he's really nice.
- 1:29Just like. Look the.
- 1:30Fuck are we? Like, seriously, Anyway.
- 1:34Oh yeah. Well, we haven't talked about
- 1:37this and I'm so excited to talk about this.
- 1:40Probably not for the reasons you would think, but I'm ready to
- 1:46go. I'm in a fine mood for today's
- 1:47recording. OK, perfect.
- 1:49Well, go ahead. What?
- 1:51What have you got to say? Well, I just want to, I'm
- 1:53curious what you thought because we did not let on at all even
- 1:58any inkling of when we watch these.
- 2:01I just said I'm ready to discuss whenever you are.
- 2:04Yes. And then here we are.
- 2:07So you want my opinion first? I kind of do.
- 2:10I'm curious. I'm, I'm curious because I mean,
- 2:13I don't care who goes first, but I'm curious what you have to say
- 2:18about all this. I was so bored.
- 2:21Oh, were you bored? Were you bored?
- 2:23I was entertained. Were you?
- 2:26I was really. I had no expectation.
- 2:29None at all. Me neither.
- 2:31Me neither. I knew who was in it, right?
- 2:33Because of the previews or the the little trailers that they
- 2:36released. But yeah, I, I was so curious,
- 2:39like, why are we talking about these individuals?
- 2:42How are we talking about these individuals when one of them is
- 2:46allegedly dead and all? Oh I forgot, I forgot.
- 2:53Star Wars just resurrects whoever the fuck they want,
- 2:56whenever they want, for any loose reason that they want, and
- 3:00here the fuck we are. Yep.
- 3:02Yeah, no one is ever really dead.
- 3:05Not for. Real.
- 3:07Not in. Not in this Star Wars era.
- 3:09And I hate it. Well.
- 3:12Why? Kill a character and bring them
- 3:14back for them to do nothing at all.
- 3:17That's my fucking question I wanted to ask.
- 3:21My question is OK. Ventress is an absolute badass
- 3:28goddess. Whatever you want to say.
- 3:31She is a woman of her own. I respect the hell out of her.
- 3:35Grew to love her character. Total surprise.
- 3:38Loving her character. This is not what I want from a
- 3:43character when they're resurrected to come back and be
- 3:46a sidekick to some kid who sucks.
- 3:48And yet yet again, we have another Jedi that survived the
- 3:53purge. So.
- 3:55Yeah, no, there's, there's a lot of them out there apparently.
- 3:59At this point they could all go to a spa together and hold a
- 4:02convention. That's how many there are.
- 4:06The fuck is Luke like? Like Luke you're 1 of you're one
- 4:10of two. Is he though?
- 4:12Is he though? 40 to 50 and the number keeps
- 4:16growing I. Don't give or take Unbelievable.
- 4:21I'm so disappointed. I'm so.
- 4:25And not only that, Mother Tolson just is like, do you want to
- 4:29live or die? Or I think I'll live.
- 4:32OK. You live what?
- 4:35It came out of nowhere, first of all, and second of all the
- 4:39proposition she presented to Ventress.
- 4:43Makes no sense. Oh yeah, and like why would
- 4:45Ventress choose what she chose? I don't understand if she if if
- 4:49the cost of her choice is her heart's desire, which they
- 4:54implied was Quinlan, why did she choose to come back?
- 4:58I would have just stayed dead. And like joined her sisters in
- 5:03the other world. Like that seems more likely what
- 5:06Ventress would have chosen between.
- 5:09She always wanted family, she always wanted a sense of
- 5:12belonging. So why would she come back to
- 5:15live a quiet life as like a ticket taker and A and?
- 5:22AI just. Taxi service, I don't know.
- 5:25And then to to get all the way up to seeing, potentially seeing
- 5:31Quinlan again and then deciding that's not the path I'm on
- 5:35anymore. What?
- 5:36What was the point of sitting through this?
- 5:39I don't understand. Literally no point, no point, no
- 5:44.0 points. I.
- 5:48I can't excuse a resurrection when there's no point.
- 5:53Like, nothing like friendship. Is that friendship with this
- 5:57kid? Is that what we're going with?
- 6:00Is that it, guys? It's cringy.
- 6:03It's cringy. It's real cringy and it's I
- 6:07suppose it's supposed to tug at your heartstrings, but it just
- 6:10doesn't. Yeah, OK, we sound negative,
- 6:16wah, wah. But here, OK, I'll be positive.
- 6:19Because when this shit first came out, you sent me the
- 6:22trailer and I was like, why should I care?
- 6:26And like, you couldn't answer it and nobody could answer it.
- 6:29I still, I still can't answer it.
- 6:31But it was nice to see Quinlan Voss.
- 6:35There's been so much talk of Quinlan Voss since the Kenobi
- 6:38series. I know.
- 6:40So there was some, I don't know, fulfillment in the fact that he
- 6:46was brought back in a sense acknowledged he was with Obi
- 6:49Wan. It's obviously from the story
- 6:51that so many people love, which is now just totally thrown at
- 6:54what's the name of the book? Dark Disciple.
- 6:57Thank you. One of the better ones in the
- 6:59Star Wars universe. Of course they had to just trash
- 7:02it. And I'm talking I'll of Dave
- 7:04Filoni, my hero, which I'm allowed to do.
- 7:08Everyone's around. Opinion.
- 7:11I I really do question like why he allowed this?
- 7:15It was. It was a waste of very like it
- 7:18was a waste of money if nothing else.
- 7:21It just totally undermines Dark Disciple, what took place in
- 7:27there, the Quinlan and the Ventress relationship, that kind
- 7:31of like unlikelihood of it all. And it somehow worked and it was
- 7:35wonderful and there were sacrifices made.
- 7:38I don't want to spoil. I'm trying to talk vaguely so I
- 7:41don't spoil it for anybody, but it was nice to see it
- 7:44acknowledged. But Oh my God.
- 7:48I know, I know. When are we going to leave
- 7:52things alone? I'm sorry, I really.
- 7:57Keep fucking with stuff I don't know.
- 7:59And like Quinlan literally was taken by Dooku and tormented and
- 8:05tortured and like 4 ventris basically.
- 8:09Yeah, yes. I guess maybe that's a spoiler,
- 8:13sorry, but. Yeah, I was the sacrifice I was
- 8:16Speaking of, but sorry, it was all for not.
- 8:20No, it's OK. The book came out a long time
- 8:23ago. I, I think we're, we're safe,
- 8:26we're spoilers. Yeah, we're safe.
- 8:27Also. Also, if you're curious why he
- 8:30gets tortured and how, go ahead and pick up Dark Disciple and
- 8:32read it tomorrow. Read the book.
- 8:34There you go. Yeah, I just.
- 8:37Kind of ruins the book now. It does it like undermines it a
- 8:41bit like the the depth of their connection, their relationship,
- 8:44the importance of somebody from the light side and the dark side
- 8:48finding common ground. Crazy.
- 8:51What the hell guys? Of all the characters I'd be
- 8:54interested in, I would like to know more about Ventress and how
- 8:58she was brought back for the dead and her connection with
- 9:01Quinlan and how that ties into Obi Wan and the path and they
- 9:04just didn't touch any of it. They just once again use
- 9:10peripheral bullshit to tell a story that doesn't like.
- 9:15I don't care about her trading services for information with
- 9:20some other bounty hunter. I want the part where they use
- 9:24it to find the path. That's the real story and we're
- 9:27not telling it. I thought that's where we were
- 9:31going. I thought we're going to get a
- 9:32glimpse of the path and how it's meant to work 'cause we.
- 9:41As soon as she was like, we're gonna, what if we help you with
- 9:44this mission? I'm like, oh, so this episode's
- 9:46gonna be about the mission. And then we have.
- 9:48Like a Mandalorian. Right.
- 9:49And then we have one episode left and that's not enough to
- 9:52get to the path. And right there I knew we're not
- 9:55gonna have a really in depth story.
- 9:57This is gonna be another peripheral story without
- 10:01anything important happening except that she makes a friend,
- 10:04which I guess is a big deal for her, but.
- 10:08But like strangely enough, she kind of she had the same kind of
- 10:13attitude with Obi Wan in her owner, in her, in her
- 10:17interactions with Obi Wan in the Clone Wars.
- 10:19She's like that with people. This kid just kind of they
- 10:24didn't have a war separating them, right?
- 10:26I know that the Empire is like doing its thing or whatever, but
- 10:30you know, there were factions that separated Ventress and Obi
- 10:35Wan strangely enough, kind of leads back to the Dark disciple
- 10:38that would prevent them from like working together.
- 10:40But then things happen. But this kid, there's nothing
- 10:43preventing him from like leaning on her and she takes him under
- 10:45her wing and blah blah blah. OK, if we would have had some
- 10:50connection back to Quinlan in the end, could have maybe
- 10:54justified it, especially with the path, because in a way she
- 10:58would have then been helping the Jedi who she always fucking
- 11:01hated or at least tolerated at best.
- 11:05Yeah, just living on her terms in a sense then, because she
- 11:09made the choice. I don't know, it's nice to see
- 11:13Ventress. It's nice.
- 11:14It was way nicer to see Quinlan 'cause slightly different
- 11:20animation, slightly different look, kind of more more mature.
- 11:25You know, not like a a model. And I don't mean a like a
- 11:29fashion model, I mean like a like 3D model of a person.
- 11:33He seemed more like a human being in this version of the
- 11:36animation. Totally.
- 11:38And you know, Obi Wan's presence and anyone who's read Dark
- 11:41Disciple gets it and all of that.
- 11:44And it was touching and it just. If we could have somehow tied it
- 11:50all together in the end, I might have a more positive.
- 11:54Yeah. Commentary on it.
- 11:57I agree, I feel the same. It was enjoyable to watch.
- 11:59And the fact that I'm like, OK, I'm slightly curious because of
- 12:04the path. And then like you said, when I
- 12:06realized we're going to fuck around and we're not going to
- 12:09get to the path, I was like, oh Jesus.
- 12:11All right, all right. Yeah, and I could get behind,
- 12:16you know, these quick little stories that but like man, that
- 12:21was something I thought was one of Clone Wars biggest strengths,
- 12:25right? Because Star Wars always, always
- 12:29the movies are like 3 threads and we switch every 15 minutes
- 12:34between the threads and sometimes I care about the
- 12:37thread and sometimes I can Fast forward certain, you know,
- 12:41things like that. Sorry, Derek.
- 12:45He'll love that. I love the Ewoks just so I don't
- 12:49always want to sit through their scenes, OK?
- 12:51But like, right, right, Totally. Clone Wars stopped doing that.
- 12:55The episodes were 20 minutes. They picked one thread and they
- 12:58really explored it in just a 20 minute period.
- 13:02It was amazing, totally. And then if they got in depth,
- 13:05it would be like an arc, but something important and like
- 13:09meaningful happened in those 20 minutes every single time.
- 13:12And I feel like Tales of the Underworld or these Tales movies
- 13:17or movies episodes in general. Yeah.
- 13:20Feel like rudderless it's. Like that's a good way.
- 13:25We get to return to the world and the animation and some of
- 13:29the characters, and that's really cool, but the stories are
- 13:32just kind of like empty, kind of empty, open-ended in a way
- 13:36that's not fun. I don't know.
- 13:39I don't wanna just 'cause I feel like all we did was all I did
- 13:43was shit on Andor and that pissed off some people.
- 13:46And now here I am just shitting on tales of the Underworld.
- 13:49But it's not that good. I was bored.
- 13:53I kept checking the time and that is not something I ever do.
- 13:57So yeah. OK, well first of all, you're
- 14:00allowed an opinion. I'm allowed an opinion.
- 14:02Everyone's allowed an opinion here.
- 14:04We've always said that that includes yours and mine, so
- 14:07there we go. That being said this also was
- 14:12not good so I share your opinion.
- 14:17OK that sometimes happens and sometimes it doesn't.
- 14:20But the crazy thing is is let's remove Quinlan and Obi Wan at
- 14:25the beginning. This could have still been a
- 14:28Tales of the Underworld when Ventress was technically really
- 14:32in the underworld between Clone Wars and Dark Disciple.
- 14:36Yeah, when she was still alive. And in fact, I would have
- 14:40preferred if they'd just done that.
- 14:43You have to. If you bring these people back,
- 14:47listen up. I'm going to make a statement.
- 14:50This is my platform as Miss America.
- 14:53If you bring people back in Star Wars, it had better be for a
- 14:58good reason. No more of this flippant shit,
- 15:04OK? I'm done.
- 15:06I'm getting. Frustrated Maul is a great
- 15:08example. Maul is a might quite possibly
- 15:12be the only proper example. Yes, yeah, yeah, so far in Star
- 15:16Wars. True.
- 15:17Again, our opinion doesn't necessarily need to be yours.
- 15:20Everybody lives and everybody moves on.
- 15:22Let's let's also remember I repeat this fact often on this
- 15:26show. This is all fake.
- 15:28Yeah, I know, right? It's just TV.
- 15:30It's just we're here to this. This Is Us watching our stories
- 15:36and having a chat afterwards. It goes on with all kinds.
- 15:41That's the beauty. You can talk about whatever you
- 15:44want and that's why we have a show and you don't.
- 15:46So 'cause we decided to talk about it.
- 15:51We just decided to record our usual conversation.
- 15:54Shit me 100%. If nobody was listening, we'd
- 15:58still be talking about this and we'd probably be swearing a lot
- 16:00more. But because we love James, James
- 16:05Arnold Taylor, and we mentioned to him, I'm trying not to swear
- 16:07in this episode out of respect because I know.
- 16:12Stay on the light side, Leanne, come to the light side.
- 16:14Stay on the light side. Remember what he said?
- 16:16Yeah, he wrote that on your autograph.
- 16:18I. Think no.
- 16:19Yes he did and I love him. I stare at it every day.
- 16:22That photo, I just didn't think it was good.
- 16:26It wasn't a good enough reason, in my opinion, to bring back
- 16:29somebody like Ventures from the fucking dead.
- 16:31Yeah, I agree. I love seeing her.
- 16:34And Nika Futterman was so good. Oh, I loved her inflection.
- 16:39And you got the sense of like the the pain that she just kind
- 16:43of lives with. And yeah, her performance was
- 16:47amazing and I loved seeing it. But.
- 16:50There's nothing bad about the performances on anyone's part.
- 16:53No. Right down to those little those
- 16:56little creatures that I really appreciated that like.
- 17:00Mad Max Star Wars style. Yeah, like can we all respect
- 17:05each other's water? I love that.
- 17:09That's a good lesson. Yeah, Yep, Yep.
- 17:12Again, not the lesson I was expecting considering the
- 17:15foundation they laid at the beginning.
- 17:18But true, Very, very true. You know what I did like?
- 17:22You know what I did like? Just just one more thing before
- 17:24we move on, I guess, is that I did like that.
- 17:27The old guy in the wheelchair, the old combat veteran.
- 17:32If you are. Yeah.
- 17:33If you are, yeah. The Separatist recognized her
- 17:37and said Dooku's assassin or Dooku's.
- 17:41Is that how he phrased it? I can't remember the exact
- 17:43words, but you know, that had to probably like shock her a little
- 17:46bit, you know what I mean? Yeah, and then he called her
- 17:49Lady Ventris, which I found interesting cause Maul refers to
- 17:55Ahsoka as Lady Ahsoka or something similar.
- 17:58Lady Tano, I think is how. Lady Tano?
- 18:00Yeah. Lady Ahsoka, It's just she'll.
- 18:05Probably cut your arms off. She heard to say that she'll
- 18:08take Lady Tano, but Lady Ahsoka is not happening.
- 18:12Yeah, I like that weird colloquialism from the
- 18:15separatists. It's elegant.
- 18:18I I mean, it's nice to be recognized.
- 18:21Maybe not at that point, you know, it's probably a little
- 18:25uncomfortable, but I'm sure she felt a little fluff of her
- 18:28feathers, you know what I mean? Like, I'm sure a little
- 18:31straightening of the spine, like, yeah, that's right.
- 18:33You know, she probably also felt bad because she didn't make it
- 18:36very far. And you know.
- 18:38She probably has so many layers of mixture of shame and anger
- 18:42and just like also needing to just let it all go.
- 18:46And not just that, but it's a whole fucking mood that she just
- 18:49wants to be left alone in peace. I felt that.
- 18:51I know I did too. Fucking felt that I was like, I
- 18:54get adventurous you. I love gold lightsabers, you
- 18:57know, and seeing her in action the the lightsaber combat was
- 19:01quite, quite good. Yeah, it was great.
- 19:03And just seeing a gold lightsaber, probably my favorite
- 19:06color that in green, they're like, I was just it's cool to
- 19:10see. There are fun things in it.
- 19:12It just if you're going to bring somebody back from the dead, can
- 19:14we please have a good reason to it?
- 19:16Yeah, and again, like there's an Inquisitor, but they didn't say
- 19:19who it was. It was an unknown Inquisitor
- 19:21and. Yeah, I was curious.
- 19:23I was curious about all that, but it didn't.
- 19:24I mean it lasted like 10 seconds when it was over.
- 19:27So yeah, and the kid killed the Inquisitor, which was when when
- 19:32Ventress gets the two lightsabers.
- 19:34And then I was like, oh, now it's gonna get real.
- 19:36But then she still got beat. She's rusty like Obi Wan was for
- 19:42a while there in Tatooine. Yeah, see, they need to find
- 19:47each other and hang out 'cause they.
- 19:49They got. Alive in the same universe,
- 19:52together. They can talk about all the
- 19:55other people they thought that they thought were dead and
- 19:58aren't. Can you imagine if we get a live
- 20:00action with only one Quinlan Adventurous?
- 20:03It would be the best show ever made.
- 20:09OK, that would be gold. That would be fucking chaos.
- 20:13I would watch. I would watch that, yeah.
- 20:16That would be called Dank Disciple.
- 20:25I just thought that would be so dank.
- 20:28Dank disciple, really. Funny.
- 20:33Quinlan came up with it. Yep, Yep.
- 20:37OK, what do you make of the mess that we're the next?
- 20:40Three episodes. Oh my.
- 20:43OK, so the Ventures ones kept me engaged.
- 20:46I was interested mostly the CAD Bane ones.
- 20:50I was bored from the moment it started, even though that was
- 20:55Space Chicago. Is that what it was?
- 20:59Definitely seems like it was based on 1920s nineteen 30s
- 21:02Chicago even has the elevated train, the way the streets
- 21:05worked, the backroom gambling with mafia like it all seems
- 21:10like a reference to it it. It definitely had a vibe and I,
- 21:14I picked up, well, you know, Chicago, I, I don't, but I
- 21:19picked up the vibe of like all of that.
- 21:22Yeah. Kind of the seedy, well,
- 21:26underworld of like the 20s. We have a very specific
- 21:30architectural like look to our elevated train because it was
- 21:34built and then the Depression era and a little bit before
- 21:37that. So it has this cross hatching on
- 21:41it that's pretty standard on Wells St. here in Chicago.
- 21:45And like, that is exactly what that looked like.
- 21:47If it's not that. Oh, interesting.
- 21:49I'd. Be really surprised, but it
- 21:50looks like at least it was a reference point for them so Even
- 21:55so I didn't care. What is his alien race what are
- 22:00they called 'cause they are the most alike to our like aliens
- 22:06that we. Like the greys and the.
- 22:09Greys, whatever they're called. Yeah, the greys and the greens,
- 22:12Yes. Where do you want to start?
- 22:17His name is Colby Colby Jack Cheese.
- 22:23Yes, every gangster has a name, you know, like there's the mafia
- 22:35name and then there's the, you know that that there's the old
- 22:39Western name and then you have like your street name.
- 22:42This is OK, and I I understand where it's coming from, right?
- 22:47So this is High Noon, the Gary Cooper movie.
- 22:51It's about a Marshall who puts someone in prison and that guy
- 22:54gets out of prison and arrives on the noon transport, just like
- 22:58in this. And one of the characters in
- 23:00that movie is called Colby, but it is not a cool name.
- 23:07It's not. No offense to the Colby's out
- 23:10there. No no, like I mean as CAD Bane
- 23:13is a an assassin, he's deadly. Colby is not.
- 23:18Not the name I was expecting. I at first I had no idea what I
- 23:24was watching because I wasn't sure if the guy with the hat and
- 23:31the toothpick was CAD Bane. Yeah, but then I was like, well,
- 23:36the voice isn't right. Yeah.
- 23:39And I'm like none of this is right.
- 23:42It reminds me of the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,
- 23:46where at the beginning you see young Indie see the treasure
- 23:50hunter and you realize his image is based on this guy, not his
- 23:55father, you know, And it's, it's like that.
- 23:57Maybe that's an and on purpose reference because obviously you
- 24:01know, there's close ties between Star Wars and Indiana Jones,
- 24:04but. Well, I was just thinking the
- 24:07high noon thing is totally a Filoni.
- 24:10I could see Filoni having this like story map that he drew out
- 24:15based on this. And he's probably had this in
- 24:17his head about CAD band since day one.
- 24:20And he was just dying to put it on paper.
- 24:22Like, put it on not paper, but like on animation.
- 24:26Yeah. So I all of this has a very
- 24:29familiar feel for where, like, Filoni grabs inspiration from
- 24:34just didn't stick a landing for me.
- 24:35Although he's way worse than I ever thought.
- 24:39He's a bastard. Yeah, that, that was horrible.
- 24:43It was straight up depressing. Which.
- 24:45It was so the ending was so, so depressing.
- 24:50I was. I kept waiting for CAD to like
- 24:53make the right decision, like he didn't care that.
- 24:58That that was his son. That was his.
- 25:01He didn't give a fuck if that was his son.
- 25:03Did he not get it? Or did he get it and he just
- 25:06didn't fucking care? Holy.
- 25:09Shit I think he did get it because there's one second where
- 25:12they show him like his eyes kind of open and he realized after
- 25:15the fact that he's killed this his ex friend right in front of
- 25:20the child that he thought was this kids father.
- 25:23Then realizes no I'm the father how the kids never gonna recover
- 25:29from that. Like if the kid finds out the
- 25:32CAD Bane is really his father. Like there's nothing good here.
- 25:36Just. No.
- 25:37Just everyone go there separate ways cause.
- 25:40Trauma. Too much trauma, yeah.
- 25:43Here's what Here's a question. Again, this is all fake, but I'm
- 25:47just posing the question. Why did the good cop, the
- 25:51good-natured family man, well respected in his community and
- 25:56in his workforce, why didn't he choose otherwise?
- 26:01Did he want to die? Because.
- 26:03It's high new. What was that?
- 26:05I know, but. It's the right thing because
- 26:09it's the right thing to do, and that's all that matters it.
- 26:11Wasn't he? He wasn't thinking of his son.
- 26:14That's the like the son needed him.
- 26:17The whole thing with High Noon also is that the townspeople do
- 26:21nothing to support Gary Cooper's character.
- 26:25So he basically his deputies turn against him, the townsfolk
- 26:29don't lift a finger to help, and then it's just him against the
- 26:32mob. And that's exactly what happens
- 26:34here. His deputy in this episode
- 26:37resigns and is just gone when he gets back to the office.
- 26:41He's like this is. Too much shit.
- 26:43Yeah, he's like. I'm out.
- 26:46Somebody here is going to die and I'm not doing the paperwork.
- 26:48I'm out. Yeah exactly.
- 26:53I feel like they just stuck to that plot line because that was
- 26:56the pre established plot line and that's like what has to
- 27:00happen in this High Noon scenario.
- 27:02But I don't think Gary Cooper dies in High Noon.
- 27:04But I have to rewatch it. We watched it in film school and
- 27:08the only thing about it I enjoyed is that Lloyd Bridges is
- 27:12in it and he's super young and. That's.
- 27:13Jeff Bridges, Dad. Yes, it is.
- 27:17We love Jeff Bridges. Everyone should love Jeff
- 27:21Bridges. Yes, Liv Laflebowski.
- 27:25I'm telling you, I'm going to get it for my living room one of
- 27:27these days. Shit, I forgot he was in that.
- 27:34It's been it's, it's probably been since probably college for
- 27:38me, since I've seen that. I was in a film class in
- 27:41college. I think I saw it.
- 27:42I think that was. Yeah.
- 27:44That was a long time. I was like 20 years ago.
- 27:46I know it's been that long for me too.
- 27:48And it was I, I kind of remember wishing it was over when I was
- 27:53watching it. And I had the same kind of
- 27:55sensation here because it's, it's pre-existing tension.
- 28:00You know how it's gonna break you.
- 28:02There's really not much of A way of a surprise coming in a
- 28:06situation like this. It's like either one dies, the
- 28:09other dies, or they kill each other, you know?
- 28:11We knew CAD lived. Exactly.
- 28:15I was not expecting the paternity test to come back.
- 28:19And you? Are the fight.
- 28:23Maury Povich is somewhere in the train station, like exactly.
- 28:32Cadbane just gets up off the stage and just walks out.
- 28:37That's that's essentially what just.
- 28:39Happened pretty much. Pretty much, yeah.
- 28:42I didn't think of that till now. That's pretty.
- 28:44That's this whole thing is. So I was really depressed after
- 28:47the ending of this one. I was too, and the idea that Kat
- 28:52Payne had a girlfriend or loved anybody and that this somehow is
- 28:59what corrupted him. Well, I don't even know if he
- 29:03loved her. This to me felt like a what?
- 29:07If not necessarily Canon. It's so.
- 29:10Bizarre for his it's very true. For his past and his history
- 29:15that I just really struggle to reconcile that that little boy
- 29:20wearing a sweater on the street named Colby is Cadbane in Clone
- 29:26Wars. We all have roots.
- 29:27We all come from something. And they were, they were little
- 29:30St. Rats and they were, you know,
- 29:33without their own parents, I'm assuming for some reason.
- 29:36Just wanting to eat crunchies than sleep in the afternoon.
- 29:41That was cute. That's a kids dream.
- 29:43Who doesn't want a belly full of candy and then a sugar coma
- 29:46afterwards? True.
- 29:48It's a good life. It's true.
- 29:50And he should not have left his friend.
- 29:52Should not have left his friend. I feel like he, it's one of
- 29:55those things where as a kid, you don't realize the consequences
- 29:59until it's done, and then you're looking out the window and
- 30:01you're like, oh, I've ruined my own life and that person's life
- 30:06and there's nothing, you know, there's nothing you can do about
- 30:09it. That's traumatizing.
- 30:11I hate stories like that. Honestly, while I was watching
- 30:14it, I'm like, if this wasn't Star Wars, I'd turn this off
- 30:16right now 'cause it's too soul. Crushing, right?
- 30:20Well, it's the underworld, I guess.
- 30:23Yeah. So, crazily, does Ventress's
- 30:28story actually feel more positive?
- 30:32Yeah, it's so wild. I know.
- 30:35Well, it's the I don't know. I don't even know what to say.
- 30:39It was devastating. That poor child is all I could
- 30:41think of. I know that's all I could think
- 30:43of was like this. This is this is the physical
- 30:46representation of a lifetime of terrible choices.
- 30:49CAD terrible and the only person who was trying to do right was
- 30:54the the dad, the good cop and he fucking died.
- 30:58He didn't need to. He could have just stayed in the
- 31:01police station and not confronted CAD.
- 31:04I'm sure CAD would have came after him.
- 31:06He had goons. They were going to come after
- 31:08whoever, whatever he'd he would have been chased his whole life.
- 31:11Like I'm trying to rationalize why he decided to go out there
- 31:14and confront him. Can we just point out that
- 31:16Cadbayne is all up in arms and and ready to murder this guy for
- 31:20doing to him what he did to his friend originally?
- 31:23Mm hmm. Oh yeah, he's totally misguided.
- 31:28This is delusional. Get a fucking life, man.
- 31:34I couldn't have said it better myself.
- 31:37It's boring. It's a it's a boring mentality.
- 31:40I'm bored. Go do something interesting with
- 31:43your life. Clone Wars.
- 31:47Was was like so cool. He was so cold and and honestly,
- 31:52I don't want to know everyone's back story.
- 31:55I don't want to change how I see CAD Bane now.
- 31:58I'm gonna see him as a little kid wearing a sweater and the
- 32:04mystery's OK. Sometimes not knowing is OK.
- 32:09We've said that yeah, yeah. And sometimes leaving them stay
- 32:13dead is OK too. Yeah, that's OK.
- 32:16Kill. Kill your characters with
- 32:18conviction. Yes, stand firm in your decision
- 32:22to kill these characters. Damn.
- 32:26All right, so let's end this episode on a positive note since
- 32:30we both collectively didn't like what we were given with this.
- 32:33However, that's fine. Let's name two things that we
- 32:36like from each episode. From start with episode or like
- 32:40each. Arc Oh I'm sorry from each arc.
- 32:42My bad. I liked the gold lightsaber
- 32:44combat. Yes, very nice.
- 32:47I liked the those little creatures.
- 32:50Of the water. Fun creature people.
- 32:53Yeah, I felt bad for him, but yeah.
- 32:55But mainly I liked I liked that. How about you?
- 33:01You're. Really.
- 33:05You're really struggling to get that out there.
- 33:08I I think that's all I liked. Yeah, your turn.
- 33:13Your turn. I really liked the reference to
- 33:21Quinlan and that he said that he loved her that for sure it's
- 33:25like an ex Jedi. That's like a big deal that he's
- 33:27it's a big deal to say that and mean it and not care that Obi
- 33:31Wan hears him say it. Yeah, even Obi Wan gave him like
- 33:34a consoling. Touch Yeah, yeah, I also just
- 33:38thought that Ventress looked awesome and her like Mika's
- 33:42performance was so good. I I love her voice.
- 33:47Yeah, it's a very unique character all around and her
- 33:51voice really does drive it home just how unique this character
- 33:54is and and how dynamic she is. Yeah, I thought her performance
- 33:58was really understated and really nice.
- 34:00There was that little spice of ventress in there.
- 34:03But you, you could feel the weight of her history, you know?
- 34:07And her, her voice, her tone of voice.
- 34:09It was believable. It was very believable.
- 34:11All right, how about the Cadbane arc?
- 34:20I liked the scene setting, they were world developing.
- 34:24Oh man, they still mine. Oh, well, I mean, we can, We
- 34:28can, I mean, you described it the best.
- 34:31Everything else excluded, it really built like a foundation.
- 34:36I think that was unspoken and, and, and that's what we like
- 34:40about the worlds of Star Wars. Yeah.
- 34:43You know, those subtleties that really form whatever the, I
- 34:47don't know, environment. Yeah, Will.
- 34:51Of a character. I also really did like how good
- 34:55the good cop was. I really wanted him to prevail
- 34:58even though I knew it wasn't going to happen.
- 35:00But I really, honestly, I like the surprise at the end that the
- 35:03paternity test came back positive for I, I really did.
- 35:06I was not expecting that. And I might, I, I may have even
- 35:09like, you know, at the end. So it did that for me.
- 35:14That was a surprise. I I was not expecting.
- 35:17Yeah. Well, how about you?
- 35:20I like the the set like the art is the city was really cool and
- 35:26beautiful, and I like the High Noon reference even though it's
- 35:30not my favorite movie. I think it's cool when they
- 35:34reference classic films and stuff like that so I can respect
- 35:39it even though it's still a bit of a boring plot line.
- 35:42At the time I think High Noon was a big deal, but now it's.
- 35:47Well, it works with these characters too.
- 35:49I mean, I can't see too many other characters in Star Wars
- 35:52that would have worked under the guise of High Noon, but it it
- 35:56did kind of work for this, despite how depressing.
- 36:01Opportunity missed, but at least it was pretty and it felt, you
- 36:04know, it's nice to feel that tie to Clone Wars that they're
- 36:08still, you know, they still have a finger on the pulse of Clone
- 36:12Wars a little bit. Till the next round, I guess.
- 36:21All right, we've had enough. We're going back to Clone Wars.
- 36:25In fact, we're going back to one of the greatest Clone Wars arcs
- 36:30that we still have not discussed in detail, and that would be the
- 36:33Geon Ocean arc. Landing at Point Rain Weapons
- 36:36factory. Reign of Terror, What's it
- 36:39called? Legacy of terror?
- 36:41Legacy of terror and brain invaders?
- 36:44Is that the order that they're in?
- 36:45Yeah, I think so. You got it.
- 36:46We're. Going to do them.
- 36:48We, we're going from the underworld to the top of the
- 36:51world as far as we're, we're concerned with storytelling,
- 36:54animation, performances. By all the vocal, the cast, I
- 36:59mean. Peek this Peek Sass.
- 37:01Yes. Oh, and then some.
- 37:04We're going to visit that Arc 1 glorious episode at a time, and
- 37:07there are four. So buckle up, baby.
- 37:10We're going back to Star Wars, Clone Wars.
