- 0:00Speaker 1: Pleasure to have you back a little football at four
- 0:02Speaker 1: round table. There's the back. Yeah.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Uh so what did you you were the first person I.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Saw this morning? It said, man, what about this Lane
- 0:10Speaker 1: Johnson stuff?
- 0:10Speaker 3: Here?
- 0:12Speaker 1: Lane land In Stalin's out? What's this offensive line? Gonna
- 0:16Speaker 1: look close?
- 0:17Speaker 4: They're gonna actually address it. Uh, even if Lane comes back,
- 0:21Speaker 4: he's gonna be what thirty five, thirty six, thirty six,
- 0:24Speaker 4: He's been hurt a lot. They're going to address the
- 0:26Speaker 4: old line for sure. You know, Jurgens did not have
- 0:30Speaker 4: a good season. Maybe we can write it off to injury,
- 0:33Speaker 4: but the fact is he played. So all we have
- 0:36Speaker 4: is the tape right now. And they did sign him,
- 0:38Speaker 4: so it's not as if they're cutting him. So I
- 0:41Speaker 4: would assume he'd be the starting center. Uh, we don't
- 0:45Speaker 4: know about Landon Dickerson at this point, so they're really
- 0:48Speaker 4: going to have to address the old line. And we
- 0:50Speaker 4: know how how he feels about both lines, So this
- 0:53Speaker 4: is this is going to be a I would assume
- 0:57Speaker 4: a heavy free agent draft getting old line competition.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Well, and it's funny because not that we need to
- 1:05Speaker 1: get our hands dirty with the draft, but at twenty
- 1:07Speaker 1: three you can say they need offensive line help, they
- 1:09Speaker 1: need corner, they probably need an edge. If Jalen Phillips
- 1:12Speaker 1: isn't here, I don't think they would take a safety
- 1:14Speaker 1: in the first round. What if Goddard walks out the door.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I mean, I know they go best player available, but
- 1:20Speaker 1: they have a lot of best player available options that
- 1:22Speaker 1: for a lot of spot.
- 1:23Speaker 4: The way teams draft, and Adam can vouch for this
- 1:26Speaker 4: as well, they basically take the best player available at
- 1:29Speaker 4: a position of need. That's the way most teams draft.
- 1:31Speaker 4: And unless there's just a superstar sitting there that dropped,
- 1:35Speaker 4: Like I think back to the year Derwin James dropped
- 1:37Speaker 4: to seventeen. You were gonna take Derwin James at seventeen
- 1:40Speaker 4: no matter what you had on your team because most
- 1:42Speaker 4: people had them as a top seven to eight player
- 1:44Speaker 4: in the draft. But for the most part, teams take
- 1:46Speaker 4: the best player on their board at a position of need.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well they need a lot they do. And are
- 1:54Speaker 1: we how crazy? How fastest league moves? They win the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Super Bowl? Yeah, they play, they win the division And
- 1:58Speaker 1: that were saying, man, how much his team need? You
- 2:00Speaker 1: talked about something yesterday about the offensive line play, and
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know, Jurgens and just a line play in general.
- 2:06Speaker 4: It was not very good this year.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And then is that a surprise to them?
- 2:12Speaker 4: Well, my guess is, and Adam feel free to jump
- 2:15Speaker 4: in here. I guess is going into the season, they
- 2:17Speaker 4: thought the old line would be a strength. Look what
- 2:19Speaker 4: happened the year before, historic running season. Now, I don't
- 2:23Speaker 4: think anybody thought Barkley would get twenty one hundred yards.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Again, No, Barry Sanders did. Didn't get out of him, didn't.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He said he was pretty out of it that he
- 2:30Speaker 1: thought that he loved Barry. Barry said that they talked
- 2:34Speaker 1: a lot about like on his Jerry.
- 2:36Speaker 4: But but look, I think everybody thought, even if he
- 2:39Speaker 4: wasn't going to get twenty one, get fifteen hundred and
- 2:42Speaker 4: sixteen number an average four point eight, four point nine,
- 2:45Speaker 4: somewhere in that range. I'm going to give you a
- 2:48Speaker 4: great stat, a great.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Stat where it's going.
- 2:50Speaker 4: It just popped into my head right now. Last season
- 2:54Speaker 4: twenty twenty four, just in the second half of games,
- 2:58Speaker 4: second half, final thirty minutes, Barkley had three twenty two
- 3:03Speaker 4: carries for seventeen hundred and fifty three.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yards twenty twenty four season.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Twenty twenty four season, this season. In the second half
- 3:11Speaker 4: he had one hundred and thirty six carries for five
- 3:14Speaker 4: hundred and eight yards.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Okay, so I would have a retort question for you. Then,
- 3:19Speaker 1: how difficult did that make Petullo's job? Well, that's basically
- 3:26Speaker 1: half of his playbook.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Was There's a lot that goes into Kevin Petullo. I
- 3:30Speaker 4: No Eagles fans obviously thought he did a bad job,
- 3:34Speaker 4: and obviously the offense wasn't very good in all areas
- 3:36Speaker 4: for the most part, there's a lot there that can't
- 3:39Speaker 4: be discussed. I'm sorry to say, but and Adam knows
- 3:43Speaker 4: a lot of this as well. But you know, the
- 3:47Speaker 4: fact that they are a running team that couldn't run
- 3:50Speaker 4: the ball is a big deal.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, right, So how do you overcome that?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah? I listen, I harped all year. Is is Batullo
- 3:58Speaker 1: in over his head? Is he?
- 3:59Speaker 5: This?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Is? He?
- 3:59Speaker 3: Not?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Not quite said. I don't know how to respond to
- 4:02Speaker 1: that on me personally. But if I can't in other words,
- 4:05Speaker 1: if I run a run play and I'm Kellen Moore
- 4:07Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, I got eight yards on that
- 4:09Speaker 1: run play, but to Loo can run the same exact
- 4:11Speaker 1: play and not get a yard right, and then that
- 4:14Speaker 1: changes the whole rest of the drives.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Adam can can a test. We showed a lot of
- 4:18Speaker 4: that on inside the tape, you know where the offensive
- 4:21Speaker 4: lineman just did not make.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Blocks, missed it. How many jergens misk right?
- 4:26Speaker 3: Well, penalties also set them back.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I mean it seemed like every time they'd be on schedule,
- 4:30Speaker 5: they'd get a penalty and it would take them off.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean there's always luck. I think fans in
- 4:36Speaker 4: general and fans are what makes the game. So I'm
- 4:39Speaker 4: not knocking fans at all. That's what makes the game.
- 4:41Speaker 4: It makes us be able to sit here and you
- 4:43Speaker 4: know and shoot that you know what. But but there's
- 4:46Speaker 4: what do.
- 4:46Speaker 3: You mean by that?
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but there's always multiple reasons.
- 4:50Speaker 1: If Kobe did not use that word twice any really, Yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 1: there's always multiple reasons why things work and don't work.
- 4:57Speaker 4: It's rarely ever one thing, and a lot of people
- 5:00Speaker 4: want it to be one thing. But let me just
- 5:02Speaker 4: explain something really quick. And because I know Adam hasn't
- 5:05Speaker 4: really spoken in, I don't want to monopolize, but people
- 5:07Speaker 4: have to understand when you put a game plan together,
- 5:10Speaker 4: multiple coaches are involved. It's not just Kevin Petullo. You
- 5:15Speaker 4: know what happens is one coach is assigned third and
- 5:17Speaker 4: seven plus, another coach is assigned red zone. Another coach
- 5:21Speaker 4: is designed first down, another coach is assigned you know
- 5:25Speaker 4: this particular down and distance. It's Kevin Pertulo is not
- 5:28Speaker 4: doing all of this by himself.
- 5:31Speaker 5: Is that where the whole Staltland thing weaves in with
- 5:34Speaker 5: this new offensive coaching staff.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Well we don't know the answer.
- 5:38Speaker 5: No, But in terms of I mean he in terms
- 5:40Speaker 5: of in terms of of having some role like that
- 5:43Speaker 5: where you're where you're helping with the game plan.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Well, we talked about it.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they took it away from in season, and he
- 5:50Speaker 2: wouldn't have had it here had it come back as
- 5:51Speaker 2: the offensive line coach. So yeah, that was that's gonna change.
- 5:55Speaker 2: But Scott, when you get back to last season, when
- 5:57Speaker 2: you cannot play to your foundation, you can talk to
- 5:59Speaker 2: any coach, especially a play caller, what it's It's really
- 6:04Speaker 2: hard in season to change. Now, I give Syrianic credit,
- 6:07Speaker 2: go back to twenty one. He wanted to be a
- 6:09Speaker 2: heavy passing offense. Okay, kind I called it stipping steps hurts.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It just hurts. Struggling a little bit Nick was struggling
- 6:17Speaker 3: to play caller.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Change second said, hey, okay, I don't know you've talked
- 6:20Speaker 2: about this before. We're gonna scale it back. We're gonna
- 6:22Speaker 2: help them out, and they took off.
- 6:25Speaker 4: It was better.
- 6:25Speaker 2: They made the playoffs and in twenty two, Urt's had
- 6:28Speaker 2: his best season by far. But Greg talked about the foundation.
- 6:32Speaker 2: This team is of thirty two. They're not making you
- 6:36Speaker 2: guess what.
- 6:36Speaker 3: They want to do.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yes, with Derek Henry, you want to run the football.
- 6:40Speaker 2: But with Saquon Barkley and the contract they redid his
- 6:44Speaker 2: contract lest year, gave more money. It starts with this.
- 6:47Speaker 2: But when you can't block, Yeah, how many times do
- 6:50Speaker 2: we have to see Cam Jergens whiff And there's clearly
- 6:53Speaker 2: I get it hit back surgery. Okay, that we have
- 6:55Speaker 2: to talk about that context matters, But my Lota didn't
- 6:59Speaker 2: play as we well Steeing. The major questions now was
- 7:02Speaker 2: staut at where they should be starting. Jurgens had a
- 7:04Speaker 2: tough year. Bit not a good year. Okay, Lamee was hurt.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Lamee missed half the season. He's not quite where he
- 7:09Speaker 2: once was. Still very good, close to elite. It's got
- 7:13Speaker 2: this offensive line's completely different out and who knows now
- 7:16Speaker 2: with the new coach coming in and the scheme's going
- 7:18Speaker 2: to change, who the heck does if they even fit?
- 7:21Speaker 1: So the guys, this's a good point. Is this the
- 7:23Speaker 1: perfect time to then move on from AJ Brown? When
- 7:26Speaker 1: you have all this new stuff coming in and just
- 7:28Speaker 1: say let's just change.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Well, I would answer that this way. Again, we're not
- 7:33Speaker 4: in the building, so we don't know what the whole
- 7:35Speaker 4: AJ Brown. We just see the public stuff. Sure we're
- 7:37Speaker 4: not in the We're not in the building, but you
- 7:39Speaker 4: really don't want to get rid of really good players.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I mean, you know, what did the tape say about
- 7:45Speaker 1: AJ Brown this year?
- 7:48Speaker 4: I mean I would say at times he looked uninspired.
- 7:52Speaker 4: That would be a word I would use, uninspired. But
- 7:57Speaker 4: and I'm sure there's no excuse for that. By the way,
- 7:59Speaker 4: I'm not defending AJ Brown by any stretch of the imagination.
- 8:02Speaker 4: But at his core, he's a really good player. I mean,
- 8:06Speaker 4: AJ Brown at his best is a top five receiver
- 8:09Speaker 4: in the league. So again, I don't know what went on.
- 8:12Speaker 4: As I said, there's no excuse for being and that
- 8:15Speaker 4: was just a times. That's not all season?
- 8:17Speaker 3: But was it? More? Later in the season than earlier.
- 8:20Speaker 4: I can't. You know, that's hard for me to say,
- 8:23Speaker 4: but you know you're dealing with a guy that when
- 8:25Speaker 4: he's and look, a lot of receivers are prima donnas.
- 8:27Speaker 4: We know that you know he's not.
- 8:29Speaker 1: We had one over here earlier. Sean, Yeah, there's who
- 8:32Speaker 1: by the way, predicts that AJ will be gone and
- 8:35Speaker 1: he might be you know again that no inside I
- 8:37Speaker 1: just said, based on the relationship and what was going on,
- 8:40Speaker 1: he would say he probably wants out, not because he
- 8:42Speaker 1: doesn't like anybody.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Just unless he feels that this new coaching staff on
- 8:46Speaker 4: offense is going to give him an opportunity to have
- 8:48Speaker 4: one hundred and fifty targets and catch, you know, one
- 8:50Speaker 4: hundred and ten balls.
- 8:51Speaker 2: That's interesting because that's what my thought process is. If
- 8:54Speaker 2: they could ever convince him, Greg say, listen, this offense,
- 8:59Speaker 2: your X receiver, we're gonna run these plays, which we
- 9:02Speaker 2: know going back to Tennessee, you loved and worked. You've
- 9:04Speaker 2: talked about play action, bang eight stuff, all the kind
- 9:08Speaker 2: of stuff that made him excel. But he loves uses
- 9:10Speaker 2: his body.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Look at look at Manion's background. He's got McVeigh in
- 9:14Speaker 4: his background.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Crossers yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 4: So let's say that they come in and they see
- 9:18Speaker 4: a j Brown to be used and deployed in a
- 9:20Speaker 4: similar fashion to Puka Nakua, you know, produce him a
- 9:23Speaker 4: little bit, you know, move him around where we do,
- 9:26Speaker 4: you know, have him have like I said, one hundred
- 9:29Speaker 4: and fifty targets. He might be rejuvenated, you know. So
- 9:32Speaker 4: I don't want to sit here and say again, we
- 9:33Speaker 4: don't know the locker room, we don't know the building.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But Greg, here's the one issue, and I said earlier
- 9:39Speaker 2: on your show, use me, but really use me. He
- 9:42Speaker 2: wants the ball on time. You know this because you
- 9:44Speaker 2: see the tape. You're right when the balls just to
- 9:47Speaker 2: be out in one eight to two oh and it's
- 9:50Speaker 2: out in two.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Point eight, the windows closed, it's done.
- 9:54Speaker 2: So that that is the tape shows it. It's not
- 9:57Speaker 2: a guess, it's confirmed what the tape study shows.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And him.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Other people we've talked to, and obviously Muka caught a
- 10:03Speaker 4: ton of balls between the numbers, which up to this
- 10:06Speaker 4: point has not been something that Jalen Hurts and the
- 10:09Speaker 4: Eagles pass game does much of.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Now we did talk to We talked to Romeo Dobbs
- 10:13Speaker 5: this week and he His point was, he said these
- 10:17Speaker 5: receivers should expect a lot more balls.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Now why he's a free agent too, Number eighty seven. Yes,
- 10:24Speaker 2: why though, why did he say.
- 10:25Speaker 5: That they should see it just the.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think the leading part was was the Eagles offense
- 10:33Speaker 1: not creative or I see what he was. Basically, they
- 10:39Speaker 1: should expect to get the ball a lot more than
- 10:42Speaker 1: they were.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Context always matters.
- 10:43Speaker 4: That's why I asked you, Well, I don't forget. You know,
- 10:46Speaker 4: even last year when they won the Super Bowl, they
- 10:48Speaker 4: weren't really a passing team. I mean, you know, I've
- 10:52Speaker 4: talked about this and and and obviously they won the
- 10:54Speaker 4: games and they played a certain way and it was
- 10:56Speaker 4: very effective. You can't dispute that, but they Jalen Hurts
- 11:00Speaker 4: had nine or ten games where he didn't throw for
- 11:02Speaker 4: over two hundred yards. They're not a passing team. So
- 11:07Speaker 4: you know, we'll see bringing this group in, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 4: this entire new staff on offense. I'm not saying they're
- 11:13Speaker 4: all of a sudden gonna ask Jalen to drop back
- 11:15Speaker 4: forty five times. But it's clear to me with this
- 11:17Speaker 4: new group that they expect the pass game to be
- 11:21Speaker 4: much more of a significant factor in what the offense
- 11:24Speaker 4: looks like.
- 11:24Speaker 5: How about Saquon as a receiver. We're using running backs
- 11:27Speaker 5: more as a receiver. Is that something you think we'll
- 11:29Speaker 5: see more of in this offense?
- 11:31Speaker 1: Allah?
- 11:31Speaker 3: A West Coast style?
- 11:33Speaker 4: Uh, Kendy. I mean Saquon I think is pretty good.
- 11:36Speaker 4: I mean we've seen him at times. We saw him
- 11:38Speaker 4: this year against Denver when he ran that wheel route
- 11:41Speaker 4: and they matched him up against Singleton and he beat him,
- 11:43Speaker 4: you know, for a forty nine or fifty yard touchdown.
- 11:45Speaker 4: He is capable of that. I don't know if he'll
- 11:49Speaker 4: all of a sudden become a detached player. He's not
- 11:51Speaker 4: b John Robinson as a receiver, but you possibly.
- 11:55Speaker 6: But what about yeah, Adam, just to add all the
- 12:00Speaker 6: in terms of visually what it looks like, Scott Mike
- 12:04Speaker 6: tight ends and not all, but most West Coast offenses
- 12:07Speaker 6: are a factor.
- 12:08Speaker 2: You'd love to see god it return. I wouldn't roll
- 12:11Speaker 2: it out based on talking to someone close to Dallas.
- 12:13Speaker 3: One year deal. Probably he's starting. He's certainly opened a
- 12:16Speaker 3: coming back. We know this.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yep.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Not a secret.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Of course he would be he I mean the way
- 12:20Speaker 2: he was using the red zone, which is interesting.
- 12:22Speaker 3: He really healthy.
- 12:23Speaker 2: He stayed healthy. One game, he missed one game. Yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 2: it's God could block.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah, well, and they need one and they don't. They
- 12:30Speaker 1: don't need so many other things.
- 12:31Speaker 3: I know.
- 12:32Speaker 1: They might just say, let's just bring it back. Look
- 12:33Speaker 1: at the list, I answered the devil. We know, right, the.
- 12:36Speaker 2: List of both of both sides of the football moral
- 12:39Speaker 2: defense and offense, but the offensive line issues. Mike, It's
- 12:43Speaker 2: gonna be a fascinating it's.
- 12:44Speaker 1: A football four round table. Adam Kapam from the Inside
- 12:46Speaker 1: the Birds podcast, Greg Cosel Inside the Tape the Matchup
- 12:49Speaker 1: show on ESPN Television. Guys, what would you think of
- 12:55Speaker 1: I know, Barkley two thousand yards, he's their guy, But
- 12:58Speaker 1: so many teams do show you something different? Do they
- 13:01Speaker 1: need to? Maybe? I don't care if it's Tank Bigsby,
- 13:03Speaker 1: if if he's the guy here, but just give you
- 13:06Speaker 1: a little different look every now and then.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Well and also don't forget Sean man you Okay, Green Bay?
- 13:12Speaker 4: They even though Jacobs was the number one back, they
- 13:14Speaker 4: played Wilson a lot of snaps.
- 13:16Speaker 2: If he thinks.
- 13:17Speaker 4: About you know, his his buddy McVeigh with the Rams, Williams,
- 13:21Speaker 4: you know Williams and Cora and never played together, but
- 13:24Speaker 4: they gained over two thousand yards combined, So who knows.
- 13:27Speaker 4: I mean, I personally really like Tank Bigsby. When I
- 13:31Speaker 4: did him coming out of Auburn, I thought he was
- 13:33Speaker 4: a really good prospect. I don't know what happened in Jacksonville.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Obviously they felt he was, you know, dispensable, But I
- 13:42Speaker 4: think he's a real and I think when he got carries,
- 13:45Speaker 4: it'd be hard to argue that he looked really good.
- 13:47Speaker 3: It's a change up.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I mean, he is such a unique running style. Greg
- 13:51Speaker 2: we trust to break everything outside. Now. The Niners saw
- 13:54Speaker 2: this and they did a good job in the Eagles
- 13:56Speaker 2: playoff game. But Bigsby's an excellent backup running back. And
- 14:00Speaker 2: then you've got guys who you just don't know, the
- 14:05Speaker 2: Jalen Phillips situation. Can they bring him back? You look
- 14:09Speaker 2: good when they had him after the trade That Eagles
- 14:11Speaker 2: the most questions because they sent him back to you
- 14:13Speaker 2: that I can remember.
- 14:13Speaker 4: In years with his football, you know. And one other
- 14:15Speaker 4: point too, is I hope fans understand that very often,
- 14:18Speaker 4: if a team has a number of needs, which we
- 14:20Speaker 4: just really discussed, not every need gets fixed in one
- 14:25Speaker 4: off season, So we don't know what they're going to prioritize.
- 14:28Speaker 5: Should we should we expect the team to should we
- 14:31Speaker 5: expect this team to take maybe a step back this year?
- 14:34Speaker 4: I mean you don't know that. And because we still
- 14:36Speaker 4: have free agency in the draft, Yeah, we don't know.
- 14:38Speaker 4: We don't know what and.
- 14:39Speaker 5: If anybody could do something with all that, how he
- 14:41Speaker 5: certainly has shown it can.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 4: You know, look, they played this entire season and had
- 14:46Speaker 4: a really good defense with the Dorry Jackson playing corner.
- 14:49Speaker 4: So I mean, you know a lot of people thought,
- 14:50Speaker 4: oh my god, this guy, they got a Dorry Jackets
- 14:52Speaker 4: can't play, But you know, they played the whole season
- 14:55Speaker 4: and had a really good defense, So you know, you
- 14:58Speaker 4: can live with certain things.
- 15:00Speaker 2: One thing I want to add, So you talked about
- 15:02Speaker 2: you're trying to get it all done one offseason. So
- 15:04Speaker 2: I'm in John Lynch, the general manager of the Niners
- 15:07Speaker 2: office in twenty eighteen. I didn't know the guy, and
- 15:09Speaker 2: I'm to say hello. So you know, I was just
- 15:10Speaker 2: doing an interview with him and he was shut it
- 15:12Speaker 2: off and we were talking and I'm like, man, you
- 15:14Speaker 2: guys have a lot of needs. He goes, I want
- 15:15Speaker 2: to show you something if he pulls out a pulls
- 15:19Speaker 2: out a binder and say read this. He goes, you
- 15:21Speaker 2: can't solve every problem one offseason.
- 15:23Speaker 4: You can't.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And I was like wow, and he goes, you shouldn't
- 15:26Speaker 2: and you shouldn't try to write Scott on your point
- 15:28Speaker 2: because that's not the way, because that means you're desperate
- 15:31Speaker 2: and you start making rash decisions and you can never
- 15:34Speaker 2: win by when.
- 15:35Speaker 4: You don't allocate your dollars properly.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Then true and on that how he learned the hard
- 15:40Speaker 2: way because he used to be very aggressive in free agency.
- 15:42Speaker 2: You got to balance it out. You have to be
- 15:43Speaker 2: bet you draft and develop, and you suffer in for
- 15:48Speaker 2: a free agency. That's the best way.
- 15:49Speaker 3: The best teams do it.
- 15:50Speaker 2: And how he's done a great job for that reason.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Well they got to Kobe. No, he was on here
- 15:55Speaker 1: earlier saying he does definitively want to come back. Don't
- 15:58Speaker 1: know how possible that is, or said that Kobe Dean Oh, okay,
- 16:03Speaker 1: does it even make sense? Or was he so good
- 16:06Speaker 1: that if he wants to come back in a game maker?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Or do you say, look we got Campbell here, sorry, man, we.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Got the issue delay the year that's the issue. See,
- 16:13Speaker 4: I can tell you for a fact that they think
- 16:15Speaker 4: Dean is terrific. Now I don't know what kind of
- 16:18Speaker 4: money he gets. Maybe he's more scheme specific and he
- 16:22Speaker 4: fits the Eagles, although I think he's played really well overall.
- 16:26Speaker 4: But they did draft Campbell and it was clear from
- 16:29Speaker 4: everything we saw that that was you know, on social media,
- 16:31Speaker 4: because they put it out there that they really wanted
- 16:34Speaker 4: this kid. So, I mean he was their target, and
- 16:37Speaker 4: you know, now he's going into his second year now,
- 16:40Speaker 4: he was still a first round pick, right.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Cambell, Yeah, yeah, yeah, right.
- 16:45Speaker 4: So therefore, I mean, do they need to make that
- 16:47Speaker 4: decision this year? No, But again, what what is Dean
- 16:51Speaker 4: going to get on the open market? If the number
- 16:53Speaker 4: goes way too high, I would think they're not going
- 16:55Speaker 4: to match it.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Jalen Phillips, what do you guys think?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Depends what he wants? Like they're.
- 17:03Speaker 2: No, but they didn't make a trade from not to
- 17:04Speaker 2: return if they can make it work. But Greg talked
- 17:07Speaker 2: about it. They want to do a bunch of extensions.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It's the way they didn't get any doneying in the
- 17:12Speaker 2: regular season, which is surprising because they have a history
- 17:14Speaker 2: of doing it. They tried, but sometimes it doesn't work out.
- 17:18Speaker 2: But they got to get through that part that the extensions,
- 17:21Speaker 2: and then they have so many guys on defense. They
- 17:23Speaker 2: can look at Scott, but with Dean, it's like, how
- 17:27Speaker 2: long are you going to delay Jalen Cambell being a starter.
- 17:29Speaker 2: It's but it's got to be cost productive, not post prohibitive.
- 17:36Speaker 2: You can't, You just can't. Kobe Dean is a terrific
- 17:38Speaker 2: football player, but you're not going to play pay a guy.
- 17:40Speaker 2: You'd ask me this earlier with that injury history. You're
- 17:42Speaker 2: not paying them twenty million a year. That's not happen.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I mean, they would love to be in a situation
- 17:46Speaker 4: with Campbell at six three two forty, with Bonne at
- 17:49Speaker 4: six two, six three two forty. You know those because
- 17:53Speaker 4: in a Vic Fangio defense, the middle of the defense
- 17:56Speaker 4: is so critical. Linebackers and safeties are critical. And now
- 18:00Speaker 4: you've got to read Blankenship situation as well, because I
- 18:03Speaker 4: can tell you if you're a fact from the defensive
- 18:05Speaker 4: coaching staff, they viewed Blankenship as almost the key to
- 18:08Speaker 4: their defense. Yeah, because he could set everything up. He
- 18:10Speaker 4: knew everything, you know, and that's not easy that you know,
- 18:13Speaker 4: in a Vic Fangio defense where they literally make an
- 18:16Speaker 4: adjustment on every play, Blankenship was a master at that greg.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Did Blancanship play well enough to get a lot of
- 18:24Speaker 1: attention on the market Christian Parker is in Dallas, Well,
- 18:28Speaker 1: that's the issue. So do the Eagles have the opportunity
- 18:31Speaker 1: to bring him back based on, Hey, he knows our
- 18:34Speaker 1: system and there's not going to be a big market
- 18:35Speaker 1: for him.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Well, the big question is how other teams view him
- 18:39Speaker 4: because he was still.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Talk to him by the way, in ten minutes.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 4: The other issue is he was so good in this
- 18:45Speaker 4: defense and Fangio's back and he was a critical piece.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Will teams view him as specific to Fangio's defense because
- 18:53Speaker 4: obviously he's not a superior athlete for the position. You know,
- 18:56Speaker 4: he's not exactly what you want in terms of athletic traits.
- 19:00Speaker 4: So do other teams look at him and say, ah,
- 19:02Speaker 4: not the guy, or do they look at him and go, man,
- 19:05Speaker 4: that is a savvy, smart defender. Once he learns our system, man,
- 19:09Speaker 4: he'll be great. You know, you don't know how teams
- 19:10Speaker 4: will look at him.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Like that's called beauty, isn't in the eye of the beholder.
- 19:13Speaker 2: He has more worth to us than he does to
- 19:16Speaker 2: another team. And it's a good point that Greg makes
- 19:17Speaker 2: for Dallas. Right well, I'd mentioned that yesterday. Interesting, I
- 19:21Speaker 2: mentioned that about Nacobean and and Reeds.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I know Dallas would be rough. I just would.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I would just because here's why Greg and I have
- 19:31Speaker 2: talked about this before. When when assistant coach has become coordinators,
- 19:34Speaker 2: they like to bring their own guys in, yes, because
- 19:36Speaker 2: they know the scheme. And I'm sure he's gonna run Fangio.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I'm sure of it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So when Gannon went to Arizona.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Josh had played very well, right right, guys, you're white, white,
- 19:47Speaker 2: the receiver of the enforcer. Who's the guy got he
- 19:49Speaker 2: came over from Indy, the well built guy, he's kind
- 19:51Speaker 2: of but he's at a block.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you know, I'm talking.
- 19:54Speaker 2: There was a number four Josh past.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Good job, you know it?
- 19:59Speaker 4: Good job?
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that that that's that's what you do, and
- 20:03Speaker 2: that's that's that's why and what we'll see.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Let's think it's gonna happen.
- 20:06Speaker 2: But if I know the way works of these coaches,
- 20:08Speaker 2: they have to have their guys like their insistent Scott
- 20:11Speaker 2: and sometimes it's funny. You're like, you want to that guy,
- 20:13Speaker 2: I'm not talking about these two. Well, these coaches do that. Well,
- 20:16Speaker 2: I'm going to be successful here.
- 20:18Speaker 4: I gotta have someone that knows blanket Chip can the
- 20:21Speaker 4: sense teach the defense as well.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I get it, So that'll be interesting. The Phillips thing,
- 20:28Speaker 1: they need a corner I got.
- 20:30Speaker 5: Well, I mean, should we expect Jalen Carter to get
- 20:32Speaker 5: extended this offseason?
- 20:34Speaker 2: They're gonna try. Now, Jordan Davis, that's another one that
- 20:38Speaker 2: we played.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I was talking to his agent today. They expect, they
- 20:40Speaker 4: expect an extension.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Okay, but it's funny they're like, you like that, Well,
- 20:47Speaker 2: they're gonna try. That means they're gonna That means they're
- 20:50Speaker 2: going they believe it's going to work. Let's put it
- 20:52Speaker 2: that way. But oh, George Davis, Jordan Davis.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But at the beginning of the year, did they anticipate
- 20:58Speaker 1: that he was going to play that well, that they
- 21:00Speaker 1: they wouldn't have to extend them?
- 21:01Speaker 4: Well, I don't. I don't know what the Eagles thought.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I mean, you know, as Adam mentioned yesterday, you know,
- 21:05Speaker 4: I love the way he progressed throughout the season. I
- 21:08Speaker 4: thought he became a really good football and the number
- 21:11Speaker 4: of snaps in which he played became really important.
- 21:14Speaker 3: He became more reliable.
- 21:15Speaker 2: That that's how I knew. That's how you knew he
- 21:18Speaker 2: Vic trusted, because I told folks when we started the season,
- 21:20Speaker 2: you'll know all that you need to know about Vic
- 21:23Speaker 2: and Clint Hurt and their confidence. He's playing over fifty
- 21:26Speaker 2: percent of the snap.
- 21:27Speaker 4: But he did.
- 21:27Speaker 2: He's in, you know, he's a player, and he's at
- 21:30Speaker 2: thirty five or forty year below.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Forget it.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Then they totally missed and they remember they they run
- 21:34Speaker 2: over with fifth year option. It surprised me, but I
- 21:36Speaker 2: see why they did.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We got a couple of rapid fires. Here's the last
- 21:38Speaker 1: minute right here, there's the music, uh, Jalx Hunt, Nolan Smith.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Were they happy with them this year?
- 21:44Speaker 4: I think Hunt's on the right path for sure. Smith,
- 21:47Speaker 4: to me, this year was a little bit of a
- 21:49Speaker 4: non factor.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Do they need a third receiver.
- 21:53Speaker 3: And this offense? They will, But.
- 21:56Speaker 2: That's a complicated question, Mike. We'd have to we'd have
- 21:58Speaker 2: to have more time. I need a thirty for thirty
- 22:00Speaker 2: on that.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Okay, Grego, so great to see you, Adam. Of course,
- 22:04Speaker 1: we'll be back during Football board. That was a cool
- 22:06Speaker 1: for Football four round table in the last couple of days.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that was great.
- 22:09Speaker 1: That was also No One's fun good
