- 0:47Welcome in to a very exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:50I'm your host, Bubba Starts, and with me today is Peter Gunn.
- 0:53Welcome to the show, brother.
- 0:54Thank you for having me, Bubba.
- 0:55It's a pleasure to be here.
- 0:57Yeah.
- 0:57Well, I'm excited.
- 0:59Just reading your bio today and having a chance to, you know, check out the website.
- 1:04An interesting fella.
- 1:05You are.
- 1:05So we're gonna get into it.
- 1:07Before we get into the new music and everything, I'd love for you to give a little,
- 1:11backstory, and, the floor is yours, sir.
- 1:15Well, I've been called a lot of things because I have my, my hand at a at a lot of, avenues.
- 1:21I've been called a polymath.
- 1:23I've been called a a red sauce man, but I like to consider myself just being a poet because if
- 1:28you look at everything I do, it has basic roots in poetry, my writing, my music, even my
- 1:35speaking.
- 1:36You know?
- 1:36I've done, you know, ten, fifteen minute talks, all that all rhyme from beginning to end.
- 1:44So poetry is is where I come from, is where I base myself, and that's why I consider myself
- 1:49to be a poet first and foremost.
- 1:52I you know, I'm a I'm a Midwestern kid.
- 1:54You know, I I came from a very humble background, but I was also very blessed.
- 1:59The the thing about me that makes me a lot different than a lot of other creators is when
- 2:04I was seven years old, I had an NDE with with an angel that told me my job wasn't done.
- 2:10I had to come back.
- 2:11And ever since then, I've been very connected.
- 2:15And I'll get downloads.
- 2:16I'll get, actual songs, you know, come through, from the other side.
- 2:22You know?
- 2:22And, it's one of those things where I've just learned to deal with it.
- 2:26And I'd say about 80% of the stuff that I put out is channels.
- 2:31So, it's partially me, but not all me.
- 2:34And if you listen to the album, you will see that the message that it's trying to convey is
- 2:39very much of a positive, helpful, for humanity as well.
- 2:48Incredible stuff.
- 2:48I'm a songwriter myself, and, I talk a lot about it that those strikes of inspiration, I'm
- 2:56merely an antenna for that.
- 2:58So you talk about a download, you know, coming from the other side, pulling it from the ether,
- 3:04if you will, and just being a conduit for that song is what I've always tried to do.
- 3:11And no doubt that, you know, my own personal lived experience informed some of that as well,
- 3:15which I it is just impossible as a creative to not influence that.
- 3:20But, yeah, love it.
- 3:21And as someone who's written, you know, poetry and songs since I was, you know, since my first
- 3:29writing classes in grade school, really, I respect and appreciate what you do.
- 3:35Incredible.
- 3:36Incredible.
- 3:36You said Midwestern kid.
- 3:38Where'd you grow up, Peter?
- 3:40Wisconsin.
- 3:41Okay.
- 3:42Well, I live here in rural South Dakota.
- 3:44I got family around the Black River Falls area.
- 3:47They're out in Taylor, Wisconsin.
- 3:48And we used to take trips up, when we lived in the Chicago area.
- 3:52That's where my family's originally from.
- 3:53All the way up to Manitowish Waters, close to the UP there.
- 3:57So, love the state of Wisconsin except Green Bay.
- 4:00And, other than and, just, I love love getting to talk with other Midwestern creatives.
- 4:11I often joke that they kicked me out of Wisconsin because I don't drink.
- 4:15So I don't you know, there's no beer.
- 4:16You know?
- 4:16And, I I don't swear.
- 4:19I don't spend out, you know, late nights partying, you know, because we're we're known
- 4:22for having a bar in every corner, and it's Yeah.
- 4:25Just wasn't me.
- 4:25Yeah.
- 4:26And if you're lactose intolerant, you hit the trifecta there.
- 4:29Yeah.
- 4:33Amazing.
- 4:34Well, yeah.
- 4:36I mean, there's so much that we could get into.
- 4:38I know that you've been working on some music stuff, but you you have these books and these
- 4:43other creative works.
- 4:44Does the music tie in to some of the other creative works, or is it a a separate entity
- 4:49altogether?
- 4:51Well, basically, underlying in everything I do is to help uplift in humanity.
- 4:55Okay?
- 4:56So there's an underlying message, whether it's a story, okay, to bring the feminine into the
- 5:00hero's journey like the Amazons, the crepiest curse to help, young girls understand that they
- 5:06could take an active role not only in their lives, but in in their destiny.
- 5:10And then, of course, the angelic with with the album, to help understand humanity that they
- 5:17can fight back and they have a choice.
- 5:20I love it.
- 5:21My wife is my superhero.
- 5:23A little backstory on my wife, Danielle.
- 5:26When we met, she had already completed college and had a four year degree.
- 5:31And in the last year and a half or so, she took on a new role leaving the business world and
- 5:38the manual labor world to work at our local elementary school as a paraprofessional.
- 5:44Now just two years later, she is teaching at the school as a special education teacher.
- 5:50She is on an advanced teacher permit through a program called the teacher apprentice program
- 5:55here from the state of South Dakota through Dakota State University.
- 5:59So I love that you're empowering young people and and giving them a vision of a brighter
- 6:06future.
- 6:06I think especially with the way the last I mean, it's really been more like ten or fifteen
- 6:12years, but especially the last five years, there hasn't been a lot of hope delivered.
- 6:17There's been a lot of chaos and a lot of fear and hate that has been spread, but not a lot of
- 6:24hope, love that has that has entered the world through one way or another.
- 6:29And I think at this point, you're not gonna get it from the world as we know it.
- 6:32It has to come from somewhere else.
- 6:35Yeah.
- 6:36Well, I always say that the first step for help has to come from you.
- 6:41You know?
- 6:41You have to pick up your weight, bear your cross, so to speak, and, take accountability
- 6:46for yourself first.
- 6:48You know, god helps those help themselves.
- 6:52Taking accountability is something that I think a lot of people can learn from.
- 6:57I, myself, in my experience as a a once incarcerated individual, I did two years for,
- 7:05you know, distributing marijuana, which now I have a license where I could grow or smoke or
- 7:10buy as much as I would want to, more than that they had caught me with, but I had to I I ran
- 7:17away.
- 7:18Right?
- 7:18I ran away from that.
- 7:19And I actually lived in Mexico for a year, Peter.
- 7:23And it took me some hard conversations with myself and looking at my children and going
- 7:28that they had not asked for this life on the run and being in this.
- 7:34And I had to take accountability for my actions, whether I thought it was right what I
- 7:38was being prosecuted for or not, that I had to go in to pay the piper, so to speak, so that I
- 7:44could build a better life for my children.
- 7:45And here we are now, you know, ten years removed from that and, you know, eight years
- 7:51removed from prison and off of parole now and and now able to turn around and to serve our
- 7:57community.
- 7:58My wife is not only a teacher at the school, but we also have a program supporting young
- 8:03athletes at the school as well with our podcast.
- 8:05So, it it's nice to, yeah, be on the other side of that now.
- 8:10But, I'm never afraid to share that story because I think it informs a lot of who I am as
- 8:16a man and as a human being that I did take my accountability.
- 8:20Yes.
- 8:20I made mistakes, but I I have learned from those mistakes, and I accept that they made me
- 8:26who I am today.
- 8:27And taking that accountability was a huge step in that process.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:32Well, that's one the first steps you wanna look at is if someone comes to you for help, you
- 8:36know, is are they willing to take the steps themselves?
- 8:39Because so many people have a kind, gentle heart, and they'll take on their load,
- 8:44unfortunately, and you can't do that, Yeah.
- 8:46Because it will bring you down.
- 8:47But, it it's it's it takes a special kind of person to actually wanna do that because so
- 8:52many people out there are very cutthroat, you know, and, all about themselves.
- 8:59Well and I think in this day and age, it's very easy to shift the blame.
- 9:02You can shift the blame to society or your parents, which I did for a long time.
- 9:07Right?
- 9:08You know, not a great upbringing.
- 9:10And it was very easy for me to just be an angry young man and to blame everyone else for the
- 9:17poor decisions that I was making.
- 9:19And I think we get even more of a, you know, especially in this digital age where we can
- 9:24take to Facebook and find people, that will back up our bullshit to speak.
- 9:29You don't cuss, but I do.
- 9:31And will, allow us to justify our our poor behavior.
- 9:37And it really starts with a gentleman that I listen to a lot, Andy Frisella, and something
- 9:43he says all the time is that, you know, personal excellence is the ultimate rebellion.
- 9:48And it it starts with looking in the mirror, taking accountability, whether it's problems
- 9:53with your weight or it's problems with your mental health or the situation that you're in.
- 9:58You have to be able to look in the mirror and to speak to yourself honestly.
- 10:04Yeah.
- 10:04I oftentimes will direct people to the map of consciousness.
- 10:07I don't know if you for Billy, we're not
- 10:11Yeah.
- 10:12I'm sorry I laughed, but it's on my book list sitting right in front of me
- 10:16on the Yes.
- 10:17On my wall.
- 10:17I have yet to buy it and read it, but I think that was a sign or a download that I better get
- 10:23to it.
- 10:25Well, if you look at the map of consciousness and you could you know, anyone could do a
- 10:28Google and and look at it and just, you know, start to read it.
- 10:31And then also then I say bring up Maslow's hierarchy of needs and then see that you think
- 10:36you could superimpose them on each other.
- 10:39You know?
- 10:39And then start to understand that people speak different languages of this world.
- 10:43Because when you're down 85%, if you look at the metaconscious, 85% or more of people are at
- 10:49or below 200.
- 10:51So they're down down in the lower half.
- 10:52So to consciously want to rise up is very rare not only very rare thing, but then learn that
- 10:58you're gonna speak a different language when you're up here.
- 11:01A person down here that's wronged is gonna wanna fight, take revenge.
- 11:05Person that's up here is gonna turn the other cheek, walk away, and pray for that person.
- 11:10So you speak two different languages.
- 11:14Do you find it to sometimes be a lonely place in that upper level of consciousness?
- 11:20Oh, yeah.
- 11:21I mean, people don't understand it.
- 11:22You look they look at you like a weirdo.
- 11:24Especially if, like, they see a situation where would initiate a fight.
- 11:28You know, there's okay.
- 11:28Great.
- 11:29This guy's gonna fight.
- 11:30Like, no.
- 11:30I'll walk away.
- 11:32And people don't understand.
- 11:33Like, where are you coming from?
- 11:34You know, you're one that odd man out, but you get used to it.
- 11:36Yeah.
- 11:40I know you've been getting a little bit of pushback with your music because of how it was
- 11:45produced.
- 11:46Yes.
- 11:46I I don't I I'm not here to fight you on it.
- 11:49I think any way that we can express ourselves is a beautiful thing.
- 11:53Even being someone who's in the commercial business of music, Most of the money that I
- 11:57make comes from performing live, and I don't feel like AI, at least to this point, is
- 12:03recreating that.
- 12:04I mean, they've been lip syncing over songs since the Milli Vanilla days.
- 12:07So Yes.
- 12:08I I often about that.
- 12:09I often think about that.
- 12:11Yes.
- 12:12And maybe maybe I'm just a little bit older than most people out there nowadays.
- 12:17But, talk a little bit about the music and what kind of informed these songs and, this new
- 12:23album.
- 12:24Well, you know, when you're an entrepreneur, you're always looking to reinvent yourself,
- 12:29rebrand yourself, and go to the next level.
- 12:31And that's what I did.
- 12:32When I initially started is I had a good friend, Andrew Diordani.
- 12:36It was she's my producer slash director, and she's doing my audiobook.
- 12:41And we're gonna make it sound like a movie.
- 12:42And then, okay, I figured, okay.
- 12:44I'm gonna get a band and start a soundtrack, you know, because it it will it will accompany,
- 12:49you know, the the new audiobook.
- 12:50And this is that's how this whole thing started where I found a band online, and then he had
- 12:55other friends, and then he brought in other guys.
- 12:57All of sudden, before I knew it was the four of us, and we decided to go out on our own and
- 13:01make our first album.
- 13:03So and there and we've come across some criticism because they're in Germany.
- 13:09There's Leo.
- 13:10He's in in Dusseldorf.
- 13:12There's Max.
- 13:13He's in Munich, and I think Ellis is in Berlin.
- 13:18And we're do we're doing a lot of recording via Zoom, and we're we're we're doing whatever we
- 13:22can to make it work and put up the best product we can.
- 13:25So that means using AI to clean up the music because, like, via Zoom, you get a lot of
- 13:30hisses and pops and stuff like that.
- 13:32So we'll do whatever we can to make the best possible product to be able to put out there
- 13:36for people.
- 13:37Oh, so you're not even prompting the AI to create the music.
- 13:40You guys are playing instruments and creating the music, and they're just using it.
- 13:44We're using, AI to change our voices as well, though.
- 13:48Oh, yes.
- 13:48We're using AI to change our voices as well.
- 13:50Yeah.
- 13:51We've been using auto tune.
- 13:52I mean, Lil Wayne got famous for auto tune.
- 13:54Come on now.
- 13:55Like, let's let's pull back.
- 13:57So the fact you're getting any pushback now kind of it ticks me off a little bit, Peter.
- 14:01I'm not at that upper level of consciousness like you.
- 14:03I still allow myself to get a little angry sometimes.
- 14:06It it's served me well to this point.
- 14:08Maybe one day I will grow past that and shed that weight as well.
- 14:12You never constantly unless you're like Jesus Christ and you just elevate, elevate, elevate,
- 14:16it's an up and down process.
- 14:18It's just a matter of being aware.
- 14:19Wait a minute.
- 14:20I'm going down, so I'm gonna have to do something to get myself up.
- 14:24Yeah.
- 14:27Great advice.
- 14:28Well, I haven't got a chance to listen to the music yet, but I would love to have you on some
- 14:32of our other shows.
- 14:33We have a couple other shows on the network.
- 14:35One of them called Love Noise.
- 14:37We do every Wednesday, actually, which we are recording this on a Wednesday morning, live on
- 14:42YouTube at 9PM central.
- 14:44We, we take the music.
- 14:46We bring a couple of the songs on.
- 14:48We have you on with us, and we get to talk about the songs specifically.
- 14:51So Oh, good.
- 14:52To leave those fresh.
- 14:53So anybody who's kinda bringing me music, I I don't like to do necessarily a lot of homework
- 14:57because if they ever get the chance to come on Love Noise, I like that to be my first listen.
- 15:02I like to give an honest first impression and feedback of the song.
- 15:05So, Peter, you're more than welcome if you'd be so inclined to come on and share your music
- 15:10with us sometime and to, yeah, to let us hear what you guys have been working on.
- 15:15I think it's awesome.
- 15:16I think it's great that you guys are not only well, because you could track it.
- 15:20You could track the stuff and everybody could do it independently on their own and to to
- 15:24voice over.
- 15:25I love that you're kinda creating on Zoom altogether still, which obviously is going to
- 15:31have issues.
- 15:32You're going to have lag times.
- 15:33You are on other opposite sides of the planet communicating through, you know, through the
- 15:38beauty of the Internet.
- 15:40What an incredible experience that is.
- 15:42How did you meet these gentlemen in Germany?
- 15:46Well, this is a a website called Upwork, and you go there to you know, you could find
- 15:52musicians on there.
- 15:53You could find producers.
- 15:54You could find anything an entrepreneur need entrepreneur needs for his business, could find
- 15:59on there.
- 16:00And that's why I started looking at Upwork, and that's where I first met Leo.
- 16:03And he knew the these other guys that he brought them on.
- 16:06And then we initially did 10 songs for the audiobooks, and then it worked out so well that
- 16:13they said, hey.
- 16:13Let's do an album together.
- 16:15So we decided to, you know, join up make ourselves a band and call ourselves Angelic,
- 16:21which is a, you know, a tip of the hat to my angel and my NDE and, go from there.
- 16:28Incredible.
- 16:28And, you know, I have another show called get better together.
- 16:32I kind of I I kinda glossed over the near death experience because, obviously, that would
- 16:37become a much longer conversation.
- 16:39And I promised you I'd have you out of here in about twenty minutes today as is typical for
- 16:43the format of this show specifically.
- 16:46But, Peter, I I think we could come back and have plenty of long conversations and and
- 16:50really dig in deep to some of this stuff.
- 16:53I would love to have you back.
- 16:54If you would Yeah.
- 16:55If you would grace us with the presence again.
- 16:58Yeah.
- 16:58That'd be fantastic.
- 16:59Before I let you go today, go ahead and, plug everything that you have.
- 17:02I know you have a website and and where people can find the music.
- 17:06You can go to my website at www.petergone.net, and you could check out our album.
- 17:11It's called Hazing Hades, and the the name of the band is called the Angelic, and it's on all
- 17:16current platforms for music.
- 17:19I love it.
- 17:20Well, Peter, thanks for taking some time for me today.
- 17:23Looking forward to speaking with you again.
- 17:25Thank you for being part of the scene.
- 17:27Oh, thank you for having me on.
- 17:29It's a pleasure.
