- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello everyone, This is Nails from Lex Legion. We just
- 0:04Speaker 1: put out our first single, sleep Eternally and the full
- 0:09Speaker 1: album is being released the twelfth of June, so be
- 0:12Speaker 1: sure to grab your copy.
- 0:14Speaker 2: All right.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Welcome. Oh this is handler Rock of lex Legion. Check
- 0:19Speaker 3: our album out. It will be released at twelfth of June.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yest, so welcome Nils and Andy Lex Legion.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so exciting. We're just saying before you guys have
- 0:32Speaker 2: got the album coming out, which is debut album for
- 0:34Speaker 2: lex Legion. So do you want to fill us in
- 0:38Speaker 2: and all the listeners out there, how you guys are
- 0:40Speaker 2: decided to come together and do your thing? And what
- 0:43Speaker 2: was that the driving that?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Sure? I'll try to make you a long story short, okay.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I mean actually me and Pete started out back in
- 0:56Speaker 3: two thousand and eight writing some songs and writing some briefs.
- 1:01Speaker 3: That was right after I was actually mixing one of
- 1:03Speaker 3: his solo albums, you know, in the studio, and then
- 1:06Speaker 3: we just decided to maybe we should just meet and
- 1:08Speaker 3: you know, make a few riffs and make a few
- 1:10Speaker 3: songs if possible, and see what's happening. And we did,
- 1:14Speaker 3: you know, But then you know, many years went and
- 1:18Speaker 3: nothing really, you know, we didn't really pick that up
- 1:20Speaker 3: because he was busy with things and I was busy
- 1:21Speaker 3: with other things. And then during the pandemic, he decided
- 1:25Speaker 3: to start writing songs again. So he wrote a few
- 1:28Speaker 3: songs and I wasn't even involved in that project, you know,
- 1:32Speaker 3: but he wrote a few songs. He played a few
- 1:35Speaker 3: songs for Mickey d and Micky was really interested because
- 1:39Speaker 3: he thought he sounded great. And Micky said, you know what,
- 1:44Speaker 3: I'm gonna call Andy about this. See if he's interested too,
- 1:47Speaker 3: you know, to pick up what you guys left and stuff,
- 1:49Speaker 3: you know. And people was like, ah, he's too busy
- 1:52Speaker 3: with King Diamond and he's busy with and you know,
- 1:54Speaker 3: other stuff. So I don't know, man, just wait and see,
- 1:57Speaker 3: he said, Mickey, you know, and so he called it
- 1:58Speaker 3: the same night kind of thing. And of course I
- 2:00Speaker 3: was interested, you know, I know that me and Pete,
- 2:02Speaker 3: you know, we have a really cool chemistry writing things together. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 3: And I didn't even have to, you know, listen to
- 2:09Speaker 3: the songs because I know that once we start, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 3: meeting the studio right thinks it will be great, you know. Yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 3: that's how it started. And this was during the pandemic,
- 2:19Speaker 3: and then hal Patina joined too, so we were four
- 2:24Speaker 3: members back together again. You know. That was great. So
- 2:28Speaker 3: this was like twenty early twenty twenty one, I believe, and.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That's been a while since. I guess it.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Was a while. That's like, you know, five years ago.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And well we just continued, you know, writing riffs and
- 2:42Speaker 3: songs and finally got a few things together. Yeah, and
- 2:48Speaker 3: we had a few vocalists in mind, no names mentioned,
- 2:52Speaker 3: you know, but some of the top guys you know too,
- 2:54Speaker 3: But we never came to the point that we actually
- 2:56Speaker 3: contacted them because I got to think of a guy
- 2:59Speaker 3: I've been working with four who has an excellent voice
- 3:01Speaker 3: and should be the perfect match for this, you know. Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 3: most after a while when we kind of you know,
- 3:06Speaker 3: we're trying out what kind of direction we should go
- 3:09Speaker 3: in all that. But once we found that, I told Mickey, hey,
- 3:14Speaker 3: you should listen to this guy. You know, I've been
- 3:15Speaker 3: working with him from like fifteen years ago, and you know,
- 3:18Speaker 3: he's a fucking great guy. And Mickey just freaked out
- 3:21Speaker 3: when he heard Neil Smocals you know, on the Pagan's mind.
- 3:24Speaker 3: You know, he really loved it, and he said this
- 3:26Speaker 3: is the guy we should have on the album for sure,
- 3:28Speaker 3: you know. So that's how we started. And this was
- 3:31Speaker 3: back in I don't know, late twenty two or maybe
- 3:34Speaker 3: early twenty three, something like that, Neils stuff like that, right.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys approached me early twenty three.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I love it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Driving that start rock and roll, Yeah, breaking all the roads.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, that's the way we do it. Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 2: So it's been a little while that you were in
- 3:57Speaker 2: the making and so individually, had you guys been had
- 4:01Speaker 2: a hiatus from the previous bands or like with the
- 4:04Speaker 2: pandemic that come obviously just put everyone on hold. And
- 4:08Speaker 2: is that what was that main drive to come together
- 4:10Speaker 2: to do this or you just got bored or wanted to.
- 4:14Speaker 3: No, there was like during the pandemic, you know, so
- 4:17Speaker 3: I mean it wasn't a big issue. I mean, we
- 4:18Speaker 3: didn't do anything with King Diamond, and I guess Scorpios
- 4:21Speaker 3: didn't really do anything, you know, so we kind of
- 4:24Speaker 3: got together, you know, even though you know, it started
- 4:26Speaker 3: to lose up a little bit, you know at the
- 4:29Speaker 3: like twenty two or so, you know, when we were
- 4:32Speaker 3: allowed to play shows and stuff, but we had gaps,
- 4:35Speaker 3: you know, and we didn't do anything with Diamond until
- 4:38Speaker 3: twenty twenty four, so I had a lot of time
- 4:41Speaker 3: to do stuff. And I had already done my contribution
- 4:45Speaker 3: to the next King Diamond album too, so I was
- 4:47Speaker 3: kind of, you know, nice to do whatever I wanted,
- 4:50Speaker 3: you know. I mean I wrote like eight songs for
- 4:53Speaker 3: the King Diamond album very early twenty twenty two. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 3: so I was, you know, I had, I had a
- 4:59Speaker 3: lot of extra time. So me and Pete met in
- 5:01Speaker 3: the studio and that's usually how we start up, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 3: me and Pete, we have some initial riffs, you know
- 5:07Speaker 3: that we exchange and bounce back and forth until we
- 5:11Speaker 3: have a thing going, and we call in Mickey coming
- 5:14Speaker 3: down to the studio helping us to arrange things, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 3: the way it should be, with some interesting elements in
- 5:20Speaker 3: the songs, you know, some interesting drums and stuff, and
- 5:23Speaker 3: then we send it off to Nils, who has you know,
- 5:25Speaker 3: three hands, to do whatever he wants, and with.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It comes to.
- 5:34Speaker 3: No. I mean, it's it's really cool to to to
- 5:37Speaker 3: be together because it's such a release. I mean, it's
- 5:41Speaker 3: such an easy way of doing things, you know. I mean,
- 5:45Speaker 3: I've got the studio where I live, you know, not
- 5:48Speaker 3: in the house, but you know a few minutes away,
- 5:51Speaker 3: and Micky can easily come down here, and Pete has
- 5:54Speaker 3: like two hours to drive from here, but Niels and
- 5:57Speaker 3: how there are like five or six hours away, you know,
- 5:59Speaker 3: so they will obviously record in their own home studios,
- 6:03Speaker 3: you know, but we meet as often as we can,
- 6:06Speaker 3: you know, just to get that bad feeling which that yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 3: So it's not like you know, professional record in distant places.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I mean, we try to meet as often as we
- 6:17Speaker 3: can and you know, try to be together and write music,
- 6:21Speaker 3: you know, so it's kind of a hybrid recording. You
- 6:24Speaker 3: would say, some people record at home, but me and Pete,
- 6:27Speaker 3: you know, and also Mickey we're in the same place.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I know it is. And that's why I
- 6:32Speaker 2: talked to a little of different artists about, you know,
- 6:34Speaker 2: how do they put it together and what's there and
- 6:38Speaker 2: there's just so many different ways that you can do
- 6:39Speaker 2: it now and and opportunities, and it's quite interesting hearing
- 6:42Speaker 2: how people do it differently. And I mean it's whatever works,
- 6:46Speaker 2: I guess, you know, with whatever. Got the new album
- 7:06Speaker 2: coming up in June's six, isn't it ju six June?
- 7:11Speaker 2: And is there any plans to tour or take it
- 7:15Speaker 2: on the road.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean, when the time is right, we
- 7:19Speaker 3: will definitely do that. You know, we're not only a
- 7:21Speaker 3: tour We're not only a recording band, you know with this, Yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 3: I mean we already have plans for the second album,
- 7:27Speaker 3: you know, and some ideas for that. So you know,
- 7:32Speaker 3: when the time is righte with definitely you'll see us live,
- 7:34Speaker 3: you know, when the time is right, definitely, definitely. So
- 7:37Speaker 3: we're gonna We're just gonna release the album now. See
- 7:40Speaker 3: uh check out the response from defans of course.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I got to listen before. It sounds pretty good.
- 7:50Speaker 2: So where do you drive your your inspirations from music wise?
- 7:55Speaker 3: What's that what we're talking about?
- 7:56Speaker 2: It's where do you drive your inspiration from with your music?
- 8:01Speaker 3: The inspiration? I mean, we're all school guys, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 3: I mean born and raised, you know, with the late
- 8:09Speaker 3: seventies and early eighties kind of rock school. Everything that
- 8:13Speaker 3: happened then, you know in the heavy metal scene. Oh yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 3: that's probably what we picked up. And you can hear
- 8:18Speaker 3: the influences, you know, yeah in the lex legion from that,
- 8:21Speaker 3: you know, I mean, we have our way of writing
- 8:25Speaker 3: and playing the music. Yeah, and still, you know, this
- 8:30Speaker 3: is different from what we've done before with like King
- 8:33Speaker 3: Diamond and stuff. You know, I mean King Diamond is
- 8:35Speaker 3: King Diamond. This is something completely different, even though the
- 8:38Speaker 3: four of us got together and doing this. But that's
- 8:40Speaker 3: the way we want to keep it too. We want
- 8:42Speaker 3: this to be like a unique and special thing, not
- 8:45Speaker 3: a clone or a copy of anything else. That would
- 8:48Speaker 3: probably have been an easy way to do it, like
- 8:50Speaker 3: a continuation of a previous album with King Diamond or whatever,
- 8:53Speaker 3: but that's not the way we want. I mean, King
- 8:56Speaker 3: is unique, and we want this to be special too,
- 8:58Speaker 3: you know, I mean different. So the music here a
- 9:01Speaker 3: Lex Leadion is a little bit more I would say, well,
- 9:05Speaker 3: less complex, you know from the old King Diamond stuff. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 3: maybe a little less progressive. But still, you know it's
- 9:13Speaker 3: going to be a good flow, you know, from the
- 9:15Speaker 3: beginning to the end of the song, good melodies. You know,
- 9:19Speaker 3: I'm still you know, heavy metal, you know.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and so I guess it's a bit hard
- 9:26Speaker 2: to gauge. As also was saying before you you haven't
- 9:29Speaker 2: sort of released singles already, teases You're just you're going
- 9:32Speaker 2: to put the full album out at once, so at
- 9:35Speaker 2: a bing then like the Dago album too gauging then
- 9:37Speaker 2: where your fan base has come from, and hopefully it's
- 9:40Speaker 2: you know, you're your supporters that you've got already, the
- 9:44Speaker 2: diamond will folly over. It would be interesting times. So
- 9:48Speaker 2: not no interentatively, what's gonna how it's going to be
- 9:50Speaker 2: received as well? I guess not having like seven single releases.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I mean the single was released a
- 9:57Speaker 3: few weeks ago and it has just you know, exploded
- 10:00Speaker 3: on something. Yeah, it's so good. I mean that was
- 10:05Speaker 3: over my expectations. You know, it's been absolutely crazy. And
- 10:08Speaker 3: the second scene is going to be released in a
- 10:10Speaker 3: few weeks I mean, sorry May I can't remember the
- 10:12Speaker 3: date really, And then the full album I guess the
- 10:15Speaker 3: twelfth of June, and you know, hopefully people we liked
- 10:19Speaker 3: the whole album just as much as the first thing, because.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Well indication if things are good going well the first
- 10:27Speaker 2: one and thinks for us the second one should take
- 10:29Speaker 2: off as well. That sounds when was the last time
- 10:32Speaker 2: you guys put out my music like before, Like the time,
- 10:35Speaker 2: it was been a little while, so your fans are
- 10:37Speaker 2: probably waiting for something new.
- 10:38Speaker 3: To come out exactly. Yeah, it feels like you know
- 10:41Speaker 3: a lot of people say that you know this this
- 10:43Speaker 3: this kind of music and this album, you know, from
- 10:46Speaker 3: the journalist who heard the whole album. Yeah, so that
- 10:48Speaker 3: it really feels out the gap you know with music
- 10:51Speaker 3: that we haven't heard this in a long time. Yeah. Yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 3: it's got you know, the eighties kind of roots, but
- 10:57Speaker 3: a modern sound, you know, but still yeah, it does,
- 11:00Speaker 3: you know, so it definitely feel you, yeah, something's been missing,
- 11:05Speaker 3: you know. I'm glad we're here now. Yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 2: No, it's true that you do. You definitely got like
- 11:10Speaker 2: the signature like eighties you know sound, but you've got
- 11:13Speaker 2: that heavy drive, like that full metal drive that's quick
- 11:18Speaker 2: and heavy, and I'm like, it's nice. It's a nice
- 11:21Speaker 2: little rumble in the background.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Exactly to the tub of mine. Yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 2: No, you definitely definitely can can identify the two so said.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I gave a quick listen before it was it's pretty impressive,
- 11:34Speaker 2: I must say, and it is. It's nice to have.
- 11:37Speaker 2: You know, like a lot of the new music that
- 11:38Speaker 2: comes out, you know, depending on more genre, but you know,
- 11:40Speaker 2: even with metal, a lot of it you know, is
- 11:43Speaker 2: similar and like going back to those old school you
- 11:46Speaker 2: know where it started. It's kind of nice to see
- 11:48Speaker 2: a few different groups bringing it back to the roots
- 11:52Speaker 2: of it all, so to speak, quite encouraging it. It's
- 11:56Speaker 2: good for us old schools yea.
- 12:00Speaker 3: And I mean I'm really happy, yeah, yeah, but I think,
- 12:06Speaker 3: you know, I'm really happy because I think we we
- 12:09Speaker 3: have founded the right direction of this and uh really happy.
- 12:13Speaker 3: You know how everything turned out and the chemistry between
- 12:16Speaker 3: us is just great and you know everything, I mean,
- 12:19Speaker 3: the whole combination of things, you know, just makes it,
- 12:22Speaker 3: you know, a good sounding album, you know, which we
- 12:24Speaker 3: all are really happy with, you.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Know, the show, the show. So you do hopefully have
- 12:28Speaker 2: plans to tour up for later than a year or
- 12:30Speaker 2: next year.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Or just I mean, Mick Mickey especially, it's going to
- 12:34Speaker 3: be very very busy with Scorpions most of this year
- 12:37Speaker 3: actually until you know, end of October, I believe, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 3: so this year won't be you know, any any tour
- 12:44Speaker 3: plans really, you know, but as soon as the album
- 12:46Speaker 3: is released, we're going to start planning for next year,
- 12:49Speaker 3: you know, hopefully next year somewhere, you know for sure.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Any you guys have been down on the before to
- 12:55Speaker 2: Australia have you been to Australia before.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I've never been to Australia. We never had a chance
- 13:01Speaker 3: to do that, you know with King Diamond, I mean,
- 13:03Speaker 3: Motor d and Scorpion's been there many times. I believe
- 13:06Speaker 3: that we never had a chance to be there with
- 13:08Speaker 3: The Diamond, you know, so looking forward to come down.
- 13:11Speaker 2: We sure, absolutely we'd love to. We'd definitely love to
- 13:15Speaker 2: embrace that for sure. There's a lot of fieldhouse metal
- 13:18Speaker 2: heads around it. We'll definitely be frothing at that.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I'm sure. I'm sure excellent.
- 13:24Speaker 2: So we're doing a bit of a thing heavy. We're asking, honest,
- 13:29Speaker 2: what was it like the first time you guys ever
- 13:31Speaker 2: heard your own music on the radio? If you want
- 13:33Speaker 2: to take it, flip back to memory lane and fill
- 13:37Speaker 2: us in on what it was like to eye.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I mean back this was back in you know, back
- 13:43Speaker 3: in the mid eighties, I believe, or something like that,
- 13:46Speaker 3: like eighty six, you know, when the first King Diamond
- 13:48Speaker 3: album was out and you heard it, you know, on
- 13:50Speaker 3: radio channels. I mean, that was amazing. That was an
- 13:52Speaker 3: amazing feel. You know, that's still wow highlight of the career,
- 13:57Speaker 3: you know, when you actually have the first album in
- 13:59Speaker 3: your hands and then later you hear it playing on radio.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Absolutely amazing and you know everything with it. You know,
- 14:08Speaker 3: that first album was just magic, you know, the first
- 14:11Speaker 3: couple of shows you did, the first tour you did,
- 14:15Speaker 3: the first kind of interviews she did when you were
- 14:17Speaker 3: like three years old, amazing, you know. Yeah, definitely a
- 14:25Speaker 3: memory for life, you know.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, something that you always remember, which is do you
- 14:29Speaker 2: remember what you were doing when you were first heard
- 14:32Speaker 2: your music on the radio?
- 14:34Speaker 3: No, I can't remember that. You know, that was probably
- 14:37Speaker 3: on it might have been a radio station, you know
- 14:40Speaker 3: that we were you know, invited to for an interview
- 14:44Speaker 3: and they played it, you know, on their station. Might
- 14:48Speaker 3: have been you know, I'm not really sure about that.
- 14:50Speaker 3: You know, it might have been like that, you know.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's pretty exciting exceptly yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Well, look, thank you so much for coming and having
- 14:58Speaker 2: a shout with us today and have you. We really
- 15:01Speaker 2: look forward to seeing you guys down under hopefully early
- 15:04Speaker 2: next year. And album's out twelfth of June, and so
- 15:09Speaker 2: all our listeners out there get ahold of aut Sham's love
- 15:12Speaker 2: and we hopefully we'll get to see you in the
- 15:15Speaker 2: near future.
