- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Tristan.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: What's up, buddy?
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Hi, Steven.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: You guess what I am drinking right now?
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Please just take a single guess.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: Liquid.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: It is a liquid.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: Congratulations on that.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Um that was a big that was a big dub.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're doing all right.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Um, a liquid of the alcoholic variety.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: Indeed, indeed.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: So let's let's let's keep it in the the Texas Tech zone as this is occasionally a Texas Tech podcast.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Occasionally.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Can you tease please please say take one more guess before this gets old?
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Um beer.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: It's a Chilton, dog.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: I am drinking a Chilton, all right?
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: And it is hit it is hitting the spot.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Do you know why, Steven?
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Because Chilten's are delicious and they always hit the spot.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: Look, yes, it's absolutely killer knockout of a cocktail.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Let's all be completely honest.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: Um, but second, dude, there is a single top dog in the Big 12 basketball rankings.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: And do you know what team that is?
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: I hate to burst your bubble, but there's two.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: No, please try.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: No, please try to burst.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Go for it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Try to burst the bubble.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Go.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: There's two.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: There's a tie.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Steven, what do you mean?
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: Who's the other team?
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Look at the who's the other team.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Please tell me right now.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Kansas State is the other team.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: And who beat that Kansas State team?
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: I get you where we're going here.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech Red Raiders, number one in the Big 12.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: If you want any little applers trying to come up in here in our Red Raider Kingdom at the top of the Big 12, then they are sorely mistaken, okay?
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: They need to take their friendly behinds out of here right now because your Texas Tech Red Raiders are justly at the top of the Big 12, uh, about a few weeks in, just as everybody predicted from the start of the season.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Citizen National Championship now.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: That's all I gotta say.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, because we are taking this this this train all the way home.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Listen, Greg McCastlin in his first year has Texas Tech at number 20 in the AP poll right now.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, four and one in the Big 12 through five games.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Uh what 13 and three?
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: 13 and 13.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: 15 and 3.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: 15 and 3 through 18 games.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Um listen, if you thought, if any of you predicted this, you were wrong.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna be the first one to say this because I I was a big fan of the Graham McCass on higher.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: I am thrilled with how this team has played, but I did not see this coming five games into the Big 12.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: No, absolutely not, dude.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: And it's been such a fun ride.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: Every game has been a roller coaster, except for the one we don't need to talk about.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: It's been an absolute slug fest.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: We are getting the job done on the hardwood court.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: You know, I really don't want to hark into the past, but this this team is really starting to shape up to that really tough, uh gritty uh team in Lubbock that we've been used to for the past half decade.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: And the USA, dude, it is freaking back in full force.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: That Raider riot is making all the fans look back to the hub city.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: It's so great seeing some of the new members make their way over to Lubbock, like some BYU fans just being amazed by the atmosphere uh that we can provide in the LBK.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: And dude, it's a beautiful sight to see all of it coming together like a delicious Chilton, just club soda, lemon, vodka.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean very nice.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Good plug there.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Chilton, reach out.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, big Chilton, please sponsor us.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: No, uh okay, so four and one in the Big 12.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Where where do you go from here?
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Do you think, first off, that this keeps up?
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Do you think that we stay atop the standings or do you think we kind of fall back down to earth here?
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: Stephen, or we're gonna piss off the listeners here.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Here, I'm just like showering them with uh nothing but I just want to get realistic because listen, I'm very I'm very thrilled with where we are right now, but it still seems like there's a good punch that don't quite believe in the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying for you, Tristan, from watching the past few games, do you think this can hold up?
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Do you think we can maintain being at the top of the Big 12 here?
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: Or do you think we'll kind of fall back a little bit down to earth, a little more realistic?
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Are you implying that there's another shoe to drop here, Steven?
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Is that where you're trying to put?
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Are you trying to trap me in this intricate web of questioning here?
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Simply one podcaster talking to another podcaster about his thoughts and opinions on Texas Tech Sports.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: All right, Steven.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, does it keep up?
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: Do we win the Big 12?
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Probably not.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: I I'm gonna, but I do think that we are gonna finish the Big 12 within the top four.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: I think we're just that this start is gonna give us a whole lot of confidence to keep on rolling.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: I think maybe even top three is within discussion still.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, it should be a discussion.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: We are literally at the top of the Big 12 here, five uh five games in.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: Um, so I I still don't know because that's still a big bet to say that we're going to win the Big 12.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Of course, in the conference tournament.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, not the conference tournament, the uh the the in-season conference champion, however, we wouldn't want to say that uh it's the real is the real champion.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: So, no, I bet someone will barely nudge us out record-wise.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Where are your head?
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: No, I mean, I think we're in a really good spot.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: I don't want to diminish what has happened at Texas Tech with this basketball team because I've seen a really gritty team that looks like they can compete with just about anybody.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, minus the Houston game.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Houston, we ran into a buzzsaw, man.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: They were coming off two straight losses uh on the road, by the way.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: They're just coming back home.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: That crowd was into it, and they just it was their night.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: We shot like crap.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, they had a career night from Jamal Shedd, and they took care of business and they beat us by what 22, 23 points.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, you see that part of Texas Tech, and then you also see the part that grinds out a 16-point comeback victory against the BYU Cougars, who were shooting the hell out of the ball in the first half.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: You make adjustments and then you turn out a victory there, score 85 points.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's really gonna depend on one, how we approach each and every game.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: If we go in to every single game, like we go into that second half against BYU, we can compete with every frigate team in this country.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, not just the Big 12, but I'm talking Purdue's, I'm talking, you know, Yukons of the world, the top dogs.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: You can compete if you're playing that level of intensity and hustle and toughness on the defensive side of the floor.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: But we've seen this team not be as consistent in games like Houston, which raucous environment, give the the five Houston fans a bunch of credit there.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: They had a great home court advantage.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Um, Jamal Shedd played his career game.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, he had like 27 points, he's averaging maybe 10 on the year.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: So shouts out to them.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: But no, I'm just uh I I I kind of tend to agree that I'm thinking more of a top four finish versus maybe the number one right now, or even falling back even further.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: So I just think this team hustles and really gives a shit night in and night out, and that's gonna grind out at least a 500 record.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Wow, that what what coaching philosophy that is, giving a shit.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: I really I I like that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Hey, hey, I'm all board, I'm all aboard that one, dude.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: Um, I I I something that kind of stuck out to me where whenever you're you went through through your monologue there was um that if you you watching this team compete and you know in these Big 12 games is big, and that means you can uh you know, I I think if you're competing in the Big 12 games, dude, you can automatically compete with everybody in the country.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, like like John Rossine tweeted uh the other night that every Big 12 game feels like a tournament game.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: So this this league will prep you for those uh matches that will be waiting for you in March.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Um, and I think it's finally time to start saying that, dude, our chances of going dancing are pretty much sealed.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: What do you say?
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't say they're sealed yet, just because you this league is a grind.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Every single night is a tough, difficult game.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: And if you get on a losing streak here, you know, it could really affect you.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: I think if you get to 500 in conference, you're guaranteed to be a big 12 or to be a tournament team, I should say.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't think this team is just a 500 team in conference.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: I think we're better than that.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: So I think it's yeah, right now things are trending in the right way.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Um, but it is too early still for me to like guarantee anything.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just saw a projection before we hopped on that uh TechStech has an 80% plus uh chance to make the tournament, according to that that that one sides metrics.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: But I would say that feels about right.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: 80.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: I think I would commit to that uh that that that uh ratio there because I mean, like we keep saying, we're we're four and one in conference right now.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: We are three, we are uh completely undefeated at home this season.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: So if we just keep on, keep even just keeping that alone going this whole season, you are in.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: So I feel really good about our chances of not only making the tournament, but making a dang tasty C.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I I tend to agree.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: I look at this remaining schedule for Texas Tech, and I'm actually pretty happy with it.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: You know, like you only play who are considered the top dogs still in the Big 12, the Kansas and Houstons of the world.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: You only play them one more time.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, Baylor's up there, you play them twice, but they've been kind of sputtering as of late.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Um, you get Kansas and Lubbock, you know, for the one game that you play them in the conference season.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: You get UT and Lubbock.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, you have to go to Norman, which isn't a you know very raucous environment.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: You get UCF twice, you get West Virginia and Oklahoma State again.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: So you have a really good path right now to not only make the NZA tournament but be a top five seed, I think, in the tournament.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I think I'm I'm agreeing with you as I'm looking at the schedule.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: It's hard to complain.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you want to look at this, you're you are not going undefeated with this slate.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: No, but you will you could absolutely go and get 60 to 75 percent of these.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: No, I I mean I like the home games that we have remaining, you know, Texas, Baylor, Kansas, UCF, Cincinnati.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: Like you have a lot of winnable ones.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: Uh, and when you are playing a difficult team, it's usually at home.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I'm uh I'm okay with that.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm feeling good right now.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: We're playing really good ball.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: And uh I, you know, I mean, it's it that BYU victory, that was something that I did not expect.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: When I saw that first half, I was like, I don't know, man.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: Like we could see the turn of the team right here on just the talent level.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: You could see that we weren't playing with the same intensity, and it was just looking tough.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean, we didn't have nearly as many married players on the roster.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Uh VYU dominated us in that category, and it's hard to compete with that.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: It's true, it's always tough to compete with 25-year-olds, you know.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, that having that got back from the mission trip.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: Steven, are are Mormons low-key ballers?
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: I I'm trying to understand the question here.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: I I always just I always feel whatever I'm seeing missionaries going viral for balling out, it's always the Mormons.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: I I mean they got a damn good team this year.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Mark Pope is a great coach, they shoot the crap out of the ball.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, you saw in that first half they were nine of 17 from three in the first half.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Everybody seemed like they were making at least one of them, you know, 50 shooting 53 from three in the first half.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: We felt like we were hopeless.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: But then we go second half, BYU shoots three of 18.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: You know, that's 17 about for the second half.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: And I mean, you really saw the adjustments made by Coach McCasslin.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: We were really not letting guys get to their spots and get comfortable shooting their shot.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: First half, they were just taking coming off a screen.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, you got space, you're gonna shoot that.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: They were shooting with confidence, and you could tell in the second half they were very, very timid about shooting the three.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: And when they did, it was after a pump take, it was after, you know, coming off a screen real tight, guy in your face.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: So um, I we really found the adjustment that was needed there to actually beat this team.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: So I guess we're talking about the BYU game.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, are you just gonna like you know mosey on pass the big highlight here?
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: What's the big highlight here?
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Of Isaacs getting 32 points.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Uh that was on the that was on the list.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: We were gonna talk about it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, pop went nuts in the second 23 of those came in the second half, five threes, five of seven from three in the second half.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Um he was unconscious.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Steven, I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Whenever I whenever I'm looking at the stat sheet and it says R Isaacs, I I had to double take and say, who is this?
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Who is this?
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: Richie Isaacs.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: Who is this Isaacs?
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: You know, just your just your normal average Joe that's leading the Big 12 in points per game.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Where's where's Poppeth?
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: Where's the P initial?
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, you saw he had a bad game against Houston.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of people would recognize that.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: He even mentioned it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: I think there was Tobias Bass on Twitter that said after the Houston game, he was like, Okay, watch me in this next one.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go for 30.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: And he went for 32.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, the dude followed up, he backed up what he said.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: He is when he is shooting like that.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's not a lot of teams that have that for them, have that type of weapon that can just get crazy hot.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: He had three in a row there in the second half.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Where I mean, I think we were we might have already taken the lead and then he went crazy, but uh he just put it away for you.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: It was awesome.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: Did did we have any like uh hall of fame uh Mr.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Isaac tweet from that?
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: We didn't.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: I think since the controversy, uh old old Rick Isaacs has been kind of uh man, you know, a little more silent, which you know, he's also going through a cancer treatment, by the way.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: So we're wishing the best.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: We're wishing the best for uh Pop Isaac's dad um as he recovers over there in Vegas.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: He still pops one uh good tweet out here every once in a while, but uh definitely no more dick knockers or uh any of those jokes coming on on the X app these days.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: It's not jokes, Steven, it's wisdom being bestowed to you through the blue screen.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: We love it.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: We we love a good Rick Isaac's uh tweet.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Uh but um just to kind of round out BYU, I want to shout out Warren Washington.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Dude led the team in minutes, played 37 of the 40 minutes, um, 19 and 9.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: You could tell he was absolutely gassed there at the end, um, trying to keep up with that big dude at BYU, Khalifa, who had himself a night um on the offensive side of the floor.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: But uh Warren's been so big for Texas Tech, not just literally, but I mean throughout the game.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: He's a large guy.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: He's so valuable for this team.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, having a true seven-footer, he's leading the Big 12 in blocks per game right now.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Um, he's just such a valuable player and a valuable asset for you that you need him and he's staying out of foul trouble.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: That's the crazy part.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Dude's playing 35, 36 minutes a game, and he's not going to the bench because of foul trouble.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: He's going to the bench because he's gassed because he's been out there the whole time.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: So um I just want to give a shout out to him because he's been fantastic.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, that's great.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: That's a great thing you put you pulled that up.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Um, hasn't tech been playing pretty disciplined in general?
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: I yeah, I don't know if I'm pulling the stat from the thin air, but I feel like whenever I'm watching, the other team has more fouls generally than we do.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: They're a really smart team.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Um, I think Houston got away with a lot in that game.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, they were hitting the crap out of us, to be honest, but the refs were letting them play, which I'm not always you know against.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: I think it's fine uh to let these guys play.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: I don't want to see a free throw shooting contest all the time, but um no, I I I think this team is really disciplined, and that comes from your smart and tough and veteran players that you have, like Joe Tucson, Warren Washington.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: These are guys in their fifth, six years of college basketball that just know, you know, are not going to be dumb about their fouls.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Darien Williams is a really smart player for being so young.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: You know, Pop is playing really good and staying out of foul trouble for being so young.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: So you just have a lot of really smart players on your team.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, and that that has to be like a foundational thing from the coaching staff as well, right?
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: This it's it's good to see that uh philosophy really break through in the on the on the on the snapsheet as well.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they're shooting free throws.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think they're leading the big 12 in free throw percentage as a team, which is huge.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: Um it's so different from seeing some of those Mark Adams and Chris Beard teams where you're just like, God, make a free throw.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, please.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: We need this right now.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: They're free baskets.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: They and we don't have to worry about that at all with this year's team.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much, uh McCastlink Co.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: for actually spending time on that in practice.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: It's great.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: It's fantastic, it's wonderful seeing somebody go to the line and not dreading it.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: That he's he's not gonna make this in this moment.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: So even the big guys, you know.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: Dude, Warren is our worst free throw shooter, and I mean he's like 60% right now, which isn't you know great, but for him to be your worst is you know, that's a big plus.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: So upcoming Saturday against OU, the number 11 Oklahoma Sooners, uh in Norman.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: So this is our bye week.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, we get one like by you play two games a week once it comes to conference play for college basketball.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: We're not playing the weekday game, so we're going Saturday to Saturday from playing BYU to traveling to Norman to play the Sooners.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Um it's gonna be nice to get this rest for these guys.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: They just played a couple really, I mean, you know, the Big 12 is a grind.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: We all know that.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: Getting I I like and I dislike having this break right now because I feel like I would want it, you know, in the next couple weeks, uh, just because to end off the season is gonna be nuts.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Uh having to play, you know, these teams every three days or something.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: And it's a new Big 12 team that's just gonna grind you out.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: And you know, it's gonna put a lot of uh a lot of uh struggle on these guys' shoulders um over the next coming weeks, but it's good to get them healthy.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: You know, anybody that's dealing with a little tweak here or there, always nice to you know get them a few extra days of recovery.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: But you're traveling to Norman, man, number 11 Sooners.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, it's it's gonna be it's gonna be a great game.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Uh whenever you're looking at this, is your initial thought that you're happy they got beat by their biggest rival at home or sad that they got their biggest beat by their biggest rival at home in the just as last game?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think it it's gonna show a lot about who OU is.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: I think OU has the chance to be one of those teams that shined early but kind of falls off and stutters as the Big 12 grind goes on.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: I just I look at their team and I'm like, you know, they don't have that dude that is just gonna take over a game and and win a Big 12, you know, level type of game for them.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, they really need three, four, five of those guys to be on that night to win.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: Um, which, you know, I mean, I'm not trying to say Oklahoma's a bad team.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: They're a very good team.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: They're well coached.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Porter Mosier is a very good head coach, uh, but they just don't quite have the talent on this team that that scares you per se.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: You know, like I'm more scared of Kansas, I'm more scared of even Texas, I'm more scared of Iowa State than I am of Oklahoma.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: And uh, we all know the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma is not the biggest home court advantage, even if they are good.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just not a big basketball fan base.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: It's a football school through and through.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: We know that.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Um, they're coming off a 15-point double-digit loss to their biggest rival, like you mentioned, Texas.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I wouldn't expect this to be like an insane crowd or some crazy advantage for OU.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I honestly I bet the crowd's gonna be weak.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, other than perhaps hosting a ranked opponent um on a Saturday at 1 p.m.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: as well.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: Um, I I don't see this the crowd being much of a factor.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: You know, it's funny that we're talking about OU this way.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: The OU Sooners are number 11 in the country, and we're talking about them like they're maybe ranked 25.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: You know, it's just it's kind of funny.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, that shows our confidence level in this game, I would say, because I feel like I'm in the same boat as you are.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Well, they they had a great non-conference, so that kind of boosted their resume a bit, but they're three and three in the Big 12.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: So it's not like they have like an insane Big 12 record.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: You know, they've lost to some teams that they probably should have beat, or maybe it's kind of showing the talent disparity that I'm kind of predicting OU to finish with.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: So um they're also just not a great shooting team, they don't have a lot.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Guys that are above 33% from three.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Um, they're athletic as heck, they'll run you up and down the court.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, they have a really crafty point guard who also, I believe, came from Vegas, just like Pop Isaacs did.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: I think they know each other pretty well.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: Um, so you know, they're a good team, well coached.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: I just don't think they're as talented as some of these other Big 12 teams are.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: No, absolutely, dude.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: And here I am.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: I'm looking at your the the non-conference uh schedule that now that you mentioned it.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: And dude, it's buns.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: It's it's buns.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Yes, they they racked, they just racked up W's, but they lost to the only good team they played, it appears.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: And that was North Carolina, who's currently currently number three.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: As soon as they met a good Big 12 team, uh, well, okay, I would say it's good, but that's the only one uh to mention.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: Uh TCU and Kansas and Texas have all spanked them, and they've only beaten the the bad Big 12 teams outside of Iowa State.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: So uh obviously that doesn't determine the outcome on Saturday, but Texas Tech I think has a better resume to speak of, even though we're ranked lower.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: I think they were one of the last undefeated, if I remember correctly.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: They were like eight and oh or ten and oh, or something like that, and they really, you know, it rose them up in the rankings, and uh, you know, the writers and whoever votes on the AP poll can kind of get some bias, internal bias going of like, oh well, they were just at eight, you know, two weeks ago.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: We can't yeah, you know, lower them that much.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: And so ranking momentum, right?
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: Or inertia.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: And I think OU is just one of those teams that's kind of gonna fall off as the season goes on.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: But I could be wrong.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: We you don't take this game lightly.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying to do that, um, but I just don't think that this team is necessarily as talented as even some of the teams you've already played.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, and they have a tough stretch after us as well.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: So we're just kind of the beginning of uh the pain, hopefully the pain for them.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: So yeah, dude, uh, I feel really good.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, this could be the last time we traveled to the uh the Lloyd Noble Center for probably a long time.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: So I hope we go and get the business done, man.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: We got the business done against them in uh uh in football, and I think this is the last time we see them this season, barring maybe a tournament matchup, I believe.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: I think we only got OU one time.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: So um go take care of business, man.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Take care of business 100.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: After that, we have TCU.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Don't know if that's who what's that TC who?
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: On January 30th, that is a Tuesday, so throw it three A's after the OU game.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Um TCU is a team, I think, oppositely of Oklahoma.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: They're very talented, they haven't quite gotten the wins or the resume that OU has, uh, just in terms of win count, I guess, or winning early.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Um, but that TCU team, I think, is better than the OU team that you're about to play.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, hopefully we get a lot of Red Raiders there.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: It's in Fort Worth.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, always expect a little bit of a Texas tech over there, no matter how good or bad this team is.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: You're always gonna have Red Raiders um in the Skullmeyer Center, I believe is what it's called over there in Fort Worth.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: But um, this TCU team is is very talented.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I feel like we always have weird matchups with TCU.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: Kind of like a no matter how good either team is, it's gonna be like a janky game.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be it's gonna be pretty close.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's a rivalry game, first of all.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, dude, they always they seem sneaky good this year.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're not ranked, but that may change pretty quickly.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's one you can't sleep on, and it's gonna be a night at night games, and it's the tickets are already the most expensive on the schedule.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: Um, probably a lot of that due to the size of the arena and the the tech alumni.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: But the man at that, I think that's gonna be a bigger environment than the the one in uh Norman.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: So it's we gotta make sure we're up for it.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Um, okay, let me get your thoughts on this because we've been there's been a lot of talk around basketball arena sizes.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Baylor recently downsized from what they had uh to like a seven, I think it's like 7,500 that fits in that new arena at Baylor.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Um TCUs, I think, only fits 8K or 9K.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: I think like K-State's only 11k.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: The USA fits 15,000 people in that stadium.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: And do you like do you buy into kind of the the new hype around the smaller stadiums?
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: Um, not really.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: I understand why certain schools will do it.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: Like whenever Baylor's tearing down their old their old stadium and building a new one.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: I don't want this to turn into some sort of I'm just gonna use Baylor as an example, but I don't want this, I don't want this to turn into a slanderous uh the ghost of Joe comes and haunts us whenever I'm I'm pooping on Baylor a little bit here.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: Joe's not dead, by the way, he's still very much alive.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: But but um a school and fan base like Baylor probably needs an arena that size.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: And I I think it makes sense for a lot of fan bases, and perhaps depending on the town they are in, it makes more sense.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: Maybe in Waco, a 7,000 stadium makes more sense, it probably does.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: Um, but wherever you talk about a stadium for, say, Texas Tech, I mean the USA is an awesome arena, it's gorgeous, it's aged really well.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: Um it's it's it one huge fan base, and it's in a big town, and it serves as kind of like the town arena, you know, lots of big concerts are there and everything, so it's a multi-purpose thing.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Um, so I it it kind of goes deeper than just the flat out how tightly packed can you get it.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Um, but I I think I'm with you.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: I think it's a bit overhyped because I I especially hate it whenever people are like, oh, well, it's just the drive up demand for a ticket.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: I think that's a really stupid reason.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: Um, like, wow, I can't wait to pay more for the ticket.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: Can't wait.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: But good way to not get people to go to the game.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: So I I I think it's that that hype is overblown, but for smaller private schools, it makes sense.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I agree.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: I think it's a weak move when you're talking about Texas, when you're getting, you know, you're going from the uh the old concrete drum that is the the flann that is the Frank Irwin Center, uh, to a 10,000 seat arena um that is the Moody Center, which by the way, they could very much open that top level and fit more people in there uh if Texas fans cared anything about their basketball team, which they should, they're one of the biggest brands in the country.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Um, so from like that perspective, I think it's a weak move to downsize your arena.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: From a Baylor perspective, I get it.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: You know, even if I'm still gonna make the joke, you just won a national championship, and then you're downsizing your arena that tells you a lot about your fan base.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: I it it makes sense though, like when you're actually talking logically about it, uh, because of the just the small private school, um, everything you said.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: So um, yeah, I just I don't like the argument of like, oh, it's it's louder, it's so much louder.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: We can fit more people.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: It's like, yeah, but I can still make fun of you for downsizing your arena because you can't get enough fans to show up after your team won a national championship two years ago.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: So, you know, yeah, uh it is what it is.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: I I love the USA.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: I will say when it is a non-conference game and we're unsure about the head coach, it does seem a bit quiet, a bit empty in that arena, but that's kind of what comes with it.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: During conference play, it's been awesome, though.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: I'm thrilled with uh the student section and the amount of uh Lubbock locals that are showing up to these games.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: Obviously, the winning has something to do with that, but um no, just just I love the USA.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: I'm hyped that we can say that we have a 15k arena and we sell that bitch out.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Do every sell it out, I don't want to hear anything out about a small arena being louder.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, no, obviously 15,000 people in a small area is gonna be louder.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: So it's a beautiful, beautiful building as well.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Um, and yeah, it's super stupid with the moody that they downsize it because they still host big concerts and stuff in the moody.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Like I've been I've been to one.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: They do that on purpose, they close off the top deck because they know they're not gonna sell it out.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: And it's like, okay, you're Texas, you talk about being the biggest brand and having all these fans, and yet you can't like you close off the top deck.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: That's ridiculous.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Really stupid.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: But we digress, but we digress.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: All right, we move on.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Fraud alert.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go down the list.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, we're just gonna say quickly fraud, not fraud.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Talking about big 12 teams.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: All right, a little quarter season uh fraud alert.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Um, let's start at the top.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Guess who's at the top?
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech Red Raiders, fraud, no fraud.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say no fraud, Stephen.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: I'm also gonna say no fraud.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: I think we're legit.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: I think we're but seriously though, I mean, you can't watch this Texas Tech team and think they're frauds.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, you can't think any of these wins have been luck.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: They have all been adjustments, they've been coaching, and they have been players just being doing what they do best.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Uh everybody finding their role playing together.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: So I don't think anybody in this world can say tech is a fraud right now.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: Well, I can't believe you started off with the one the listeners all want to hear.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: Now they're gonna turn off the episode.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: So I'm really sorry.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: We will move down then to Kansas State.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say not fraud.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: Not fraud alert right now.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: They're feeling spunky.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say not fraud.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: A tentative not fraud, though, not a confident one.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, that team plays good defense, and that will win games.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna say no fraud here for Kansas State.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, they also have one of the best home courts in the country.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: So uh they'll win some games, they'll be a tournament team, and they'll probably be probably a pretty high seed, I would imagine.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: All right, next up, the Houston Cougars.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Fraud, no fraud.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: No fraud, because no fraud beats Texas deck.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no fraud.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, that team's playing really good right now.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: They're playing, they're I think they're number four in the country.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're they're they're a very good team.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Uh Houston obviously is not a fraud.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Not a fraud.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: This one's interesting.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: The Kansas Jayhawks.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Now, let me give a little background.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Kansas, number seven team in the country, 16 and 3 right now.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: They have lost to UCF and West Virginia.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: The two, well, two of the three worst teams in the Big 12.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: They have lost to.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Is Kansas a fraud?
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Kansas is a fraud, dude.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: I don't this the this the build-up was unnecessary.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: We have a we have a full-blown fraud alert.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: UCF, the UCF game, okay.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: Maybe it was UT, but the UCF game is the full is what set off the fraud warnings because this is a fraud alert.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: This I I agree.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: Like, I think Kansas is extremely beatable.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: I think they have some talent, they always have talent.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: They have a Hall of Fame head coach, they have the you know referee advantage at Allen Fieldhouse, but that team is just so fraudulent.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: I am watching them and I'm like, you guys should be so much better.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: But Steven, they have bumass K Mac on their team.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: This is a fraud team.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: Fraudulent, fraud alert with the Kansas Jayhawks.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be fun.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: Well, back to Lovick.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Wait, when when do you when do we cut this off?
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: Like, when does the when do we stop deciding who's a fraud and who's not?
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: Because eventually it's just gonna be like, I guess fraud if they're 0-6.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: Um let's get let's go the top half.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: No, let's go let's go to BYU.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: That's what we'll do.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: We're gonna go to BYU.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: Uh so we're only gonna leave off three teams.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: Well, listen, I mean, these three like three teams have not been right this season, and the others have.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: So this is a really deep team or deep conference.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Um, Baylor, fraud, no fraud coming off two straight losses.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Baylor is a fraud, Steven.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Baylor is a fraud.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: Their stadium is a fraud, their team is a fraud.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: Scott Drew is not a fraud, nice man, but everything else is a fraud.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: I will disagree.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: Uh I think I think Baylor's legit.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: I think they have some freshmen.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: They have some freshmen that will get it as the season goes on.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: Um, Scott Drew, we all know how good of a coach he is.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: I am not saying Baylor's a fraud.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: I think Baylor is a very good basketball team still and will contend for the Big 12 still.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: Scott Drew uh is good at coaching coaches, I will say.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, can you believe the two top teams of the Big 12 are Scott Drew guys?
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Uh Scott Drew guys.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, give it the times, old man.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, come on.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: It's time for the young guns to take over.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, retire.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: The grandma castlins of the world are here.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Go eat your tapioca in the nice little Waco retirement home there, Mr.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: Drew.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Drew, have a lot of respect for you.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Um Iowa State, number 23 team in the country, three and two in the Big 12.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Um, coming off a win against TCU, Iowa State.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: Frauds?
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: No frauds.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Not frauds, never frauds.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: Iowa State's never fraud in basketball.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: They've always got something in the tank, dog.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: They they always they always know what to do.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: They always got they always got non-fraudulent energy.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: TJ Altselberger is not a fraud.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: I refuse to believe that.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: He ever since he took that bum Iowa State team to the NCAA tournament that had no business going.
- 35:19SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: I think that dude is a heck of a coach.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: And Hilton, we all know Hilton magic.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: So no.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Iowa State is not a fraud, they're gonna be a competitor.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: Um, the team we play next, Oklahoma.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: The Oklahoma Sooners.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Fraud, no fraud.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: Fraud.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: That number 11 ranking is so fraudulent.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: That is so stinky, dude.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I can smell it from here, man.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: And I'm I am hundreds of miles south on 35.
- 35:47SPEAKER_03: That that that that ranking is stinky.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: OU is stinky.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: I'm saying bona fide frauds.
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: Agreed.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Oklahoma is full of frauds.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: That entire state is full of frauds.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: They are just I'm waiting for them to go on like this five-game losing streak, and everybody's like, what happened to OEM?
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: And it's like, we know, we knew this.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: We all can frauds.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, you gotta tune in the talking tech podcast.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Fraud.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Frauds.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: TCU horn frogs.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: Fraud, no fraud.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: No fraud.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Come on, move on.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Ooh, fun one.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: I'll skip this one for now.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: BYU.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: The BYU cougars.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: Are they frauds or are they not frauds?
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: They're not frauds, dude.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: They're blue-collar Mormon workers.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: They they are getting they're on a mission to do decent in the Big 12, and I'd say they are accomplishing it.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying they're world beaters, but they're not frauds.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: They're two and four in the Big 12.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: They've lost two home games.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: They rely far too much on their three-point shooting.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: I am claiming the Mormons, the BYU Cougars, as frauds.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: Can there be frauds when they were expected to not do so hot anyway?
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: And they're doing it.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they can be they can be considered frauds when you were ranked 12 in the country at one point.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: You can be considered a fraud.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: It's still a successful season, I'd say.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: No, they're doing fine.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: They're a solid addition to the Big 12.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: I'm happy with it.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: They are not worth their ranking.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: They are gonna lose more and more as the season goes on, in my opinion.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: I think BYU is a fraud.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: All right, all right, fair, fair.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: All right, we'll end it off here with Texas, the Texas Longhorns, winners of two straight.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Or UCF got straight up skipped.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Well, we're not gonna we're not gonna talk about TCU.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: We had to draw the line.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: They're better than BYU, Big 12 record.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: We had to draw the line somewhere.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: We can talk about all of them if you want.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: We'll draw it at Disney World.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, uh well, okay.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, UCF.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: No, I said oh draw it at Disney World.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: Fraud.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: They're getting lucky.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: You just wanted to call the Central Florida Knights frauds.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: That's what you wanted to do.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: Fraudulent.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: They are.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: I think the University of Central Florida.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: I think it's unbelievable that they're three and three right now in the Big 12.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: I think it's unbelievable.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: This is a disgrace.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: An embarrassment are the only stain on this conference, besides having OU and UT in it.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: UCF.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: Good for them being three and three.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: That's unbelievable.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: Um they're probably just now discovering what basketball is.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: Ending off with the Texas Longhorns.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Winners of two straight, um, not looking good early on, played a close game against Louisville.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Louisville is horrible.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: They're horrible.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: And they had they had to take a buzzer beater to beat them in the non-conference.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: Um, are the Texas Longhorns frauds?
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: Steven, in my heart, they're frauds, but I'm just gonna go ahead and put some disrespect on it and say they're absolutely fraudulent.
- 38:52SPEAKER_03: They are 100% frauds.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: Frauds.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: As much as I want to agree with you, I actually think this team is pretty good.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: Um liar.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: They got talent.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: I think Texas is gonna, they're finding their stride a little bit, and I'm not gonna say anything nicer about Texas.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: Um not frauds.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: You're in trouble.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: That's that's that's bull crab, man.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: That's me.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: I'm in trouble.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: That's okay.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Take it.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: That's and now we'll we should we should we should come back to the fraud alert in like a month, yeah, and see what's going on.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: Give it a give it a little more time.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: Maybe we'll come back at like 10 games in the season.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 10 games in the conference season, and you're like, okay, now we have a little more realistic view on what's going on here.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Um, okay.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: You ready to introduce a new segment?
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, please, please, please.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: So I we were talking briefly.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: This was like three text messages.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Um, and I was like, hey, let's spice up the pot a little bit.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: You know, it's been a little, it's been we love talking to Texas Tech.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: We love talking about football, basketball, baseball, everything.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, but we also like to have a little fun.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: So that's why we're wearing lingerie while we're doing this.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: We're not doing that.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: Uh we're not doing that.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: You just have to take my word for it.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: This is an audio platform.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: Um now you have to guess, dear listener.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're really guessing here.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: You're wearing your head now.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Um okay.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: This segment has nothing to do with Texas Tech.
- 40:26SPEAKER_07: Or Lingerie, I guess.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: We are a Texas Tech podcast, but this will not be Texas Tech related.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: May sometimes maybe Texas Tech will be brought in.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: Let me introduce a topic.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: We're gonna call this debate corner.
- 40:39SPEAKER_02: Name pending.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: Um we're gonna pick a couple stupid.
- 40:44SPEAKER_02: We could okay.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Give us feedback.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: We're gonna right now, right now we're calling it debate corner.
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: I thought about potentially take debate, as in, you know, take the bait, take debate.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: Maybe I just ruined the whole thing right there.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: But I think we're gonna have a little fun because it's our podcast, and we're gonna discuss and debate stupid topics that you and me disagree on.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's let's do it.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: We agree on far too much with tech sports.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: We do, we do.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: We're too positive.
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, I was on negative tortillas, I was on with the tortillas and takes podcast, and uh Albi referred to me as one of the most positive Texas Tech people, and uh, you know, I was like, you're kind of right.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: Let's uh let's change this up a little bit.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: It really is our shtick.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: We're very positive.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Sorry, we like to have fun.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Um we have fun around here.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Our first debate topic.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: Me and Tristan we're we've been friends for a while.
- 41:42SPEAKER_02: Um so we've talked about a lot of stupid stuff uh in our days, either at college, prior to college, after college.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Fifth grade.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: Fifth grade.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: It's been a long time.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: Um you brought these up.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk about all these or get as far as we can, I guess.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: The first debate topic is best condiment.
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: Now, I want to ask a couple questions here.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: What is this being judged on?
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: Is this being judged on like a just a taste test?
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: Like if you just had a blob of condiment next to a blob of condiment, and you're just tasting it, and you're like, that one tastes.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: Like a big old spoonful of each, and you're like, that one tastes as better than the other ones?
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: Or are we talking about a nightmare?
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: Or are we talking about like what is the most flexible condiment that goes on the most things?
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: Or and we could talk about this, I guess, in a second.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: I'm bringing up the French fry factor.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you have a French fry and you have a bunch of condiments in front of you.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: What's your favorite to dip your french fry in?
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: Now, does that make sense for this?
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: What are your thoughts?
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like it.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: I think it should be a combination of all of them because obviously it needs to have some versatility and it needs to be just a flat out preference.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: And obviously, a french fry dip is a pretty good indicator, but I will say that some things are just flat out better for the dipping, like for french fries at least.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: So it's not because my pick, it's not a first round choice for fries, it's not a bad one, but it's not a first round pick.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: But it's just but that I I think it should be a combo.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: So I doubt that changes our answer anyway.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: So go ahead with your best condiment that the earth has to provide.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna preface this by saying I had to eliminate what if it was like a free for all sort of choice, it would have been salsa.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: Like salsa is fairly condimenty because you put it on a lot of things.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: It's a dip as well.
- 43:48SPEAKER_07: That's it.
- 43:49SPEAKER_03: Um you can see where I'm going with this.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: You can say it's a very elaborate vegetable y ketchup.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: But but uh I I'm gonna I'm not I'm I'm gonna stop there.
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: That my favorite condiments is fancy mustard.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: I knew you're going to say mustard.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: I knew you were going to say mustard.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: I knew I was like, yeah, as soon as you brought this topic, I was like, Tristan's gonna say mustard.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: I don't know what kind of mustard, but he's gonna say mustard.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: I like all mustard, except for just plain old yellow yellow.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: It's fine, plain old yellow mustard, but a nice, zesty, fun, grainy, homemade mustard is kick ass, dude.
- 44:25SPEAKER_03: Especially on some sausage or a s or a hamburger.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: It's just it's awesome.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: It's it's tangy, it's delicious, it enhances the flavor.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: I'm all about me some mustard.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: I may have approached this differently than you.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: I think the best condiment, when we're talking about the best condiment, that uh first thing I think of is like what will go on the most, what is the most flexible, you know, what's gonna work.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: I don't think mustard works on a lot of things.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: I think it's great for what it works with.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: I'm not a mustard hater by any means, but I think of what is the best condiment if you just like if you had one condiment for the rest of your life, you can eat whatever, but you only have one condiment that you can put on whatever you eat for the rest of your life.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it'd be mustard.
- 45:21SPEAKER_03: It would be mustard.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: It'd still be mustard.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because even dude, think think about it before you proceed, and I don't want this to affect your answer, but you're you're gonna have a sandwich.
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: You can throw some mustard on that bad boy.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: You ain't throwing ketchup on your sandwich, all right?
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: You're gonna have a burger, you're gonna throw some mustard on that bad boy.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: It's rare where you'll throw ketchup on that bad boy, all right?
- 45:41SPEAKER_03: You're gonna you're gonna have some barbecue.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: You can have some mustard with that barbecue, you're gonna have German fitting giggets.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Pretzels, you're gonna have mustard with that pretzel.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: So mustard, lovely.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: It's a very versatile.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: Um my answer is hot sauce.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, great.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: Fabulous choice.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: Just because I there's not really a condiment I hate, first and foremost, but I just think hot sauce, like if you have one, and and I I wouldn't even say hot sauce is my favorite condiment.
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: I would just say it is the best condiment because it goes on virtually everything you can put hot sauce on.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: And that's how I approach this.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Like, I like mustard, I like ketchup, I like mayo, I like I even thought mayo.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: Mayo was my choice.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: I was thinking about mayo because mayo goes on virtually everything.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can mix stuff in mayo, yes, exactly.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: You know, so that's what it really makes a sandwich awesome as well.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: And so I I will say I think hot sauce is the best condiment because it works with everything.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: I think that's a great answer, but I thought about a hot sauce, believe me, because I'm a hot sauce truther, I put it on damn near everything I can.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: But um, here's the problem though, you lose virtually all dipping capabilities with hot sauce, and it's you can put it on your sandwiches and hamburgers, and it's great that way, but there's no muscle there.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: There's no like there's no foundation, you know what I mean?
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: It does enhance it, don't get me wrong, but there's like no there's no sustenance, is really what I'm going for.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: It's just it's like an enhancer rather than like a player.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, I can kind of get that, but uh you know, I think this is a hard topic because we're trying to like, you know, best condiment could mean a bunch of different things, yeah.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: Um, like what works best on a hot dog?
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: It's like what works best on this, something different.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: So mustard.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: I don't, you know, I'm I'm a I like ketchup on my hot dog.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: Look, it's okay, but mustard.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: We need to we need to talk about this though because you're a ketchup hater.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: I am a bit of a ketchup.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: I am, I am no, you're not a bit of a ketchup, you are a massive ketchup hater.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: Look, the only thing ketchup is good for is making barbecue sauce and dipping your fries in.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, outside of that, it has zero use whatsoever.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, meatloaf as well.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: You're done.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: After that, there's nothing for it.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: Nothing, nothing.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Potatoes?
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: French fries.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:20SPEAKER_03: That's what I said.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: Chicken titties.
- 48:23SPEAKER_03: No, no, chicken titties.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: I would rather anything else.
- 48:26SPEAKER_03: Any other condiment.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: Not anything else.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: Stop it.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: You wouldn't do anything.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: You wouldn't be like, give me relish over ketchup for my chicken tenders.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: Stop it.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: Was relish going to count as a relish is a condiment.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's chopped up pickle, though.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: Like it's just condiment.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: It's exactly what a condiment is.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: All right, fine.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: It beats relish.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: What a W for ketchup on chicken tendies.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: Where was Ranch on your list?
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: It was Ranch is my ranch.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: It's probably number four.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Are you are you this could be another topic?
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: This could be another topic, but ranch or blue cheese.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love both.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: I love both.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: But with my wings, I prefer blue cheese, honestly.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Well, I I guess I could have guessed that from you.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: I'm more of a ranch guy.
- 49:16SPEAKER_02: I've always been a ranch guy with my wings.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: I think blue cheese is good.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: I don't, I'm not a hater of blue cheese.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: I just think ranch, ranch is really good, man.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, the beat, like, I don't, you know, there's some people that are a little weird about how much ranch they like.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I I ranch is a really, really top-tier condiment for me.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: I I agree, dude.
- 49:36SPEAKER_03: But ranch is fairly limited.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: And I feel like honestly, of all the condiments, ranch is one I could get tired of the fastest.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: Like, okay, that's enough ranch.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: I I don't need this with every day, every meal.
- 49:47SPEAKER_03: You know, I just it gets a little heavy after a while.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: But you but you could eat mustard with every meal.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: Not every wild part because mustard is so strong, it's so tanky power.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's very tangy.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: And like it overtakes almost.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: If you put like if you put too much mustard, you'll freaking know it.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: But that's every kind of true.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: If you yes, that's so true.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Not to the not to the effect, like almost if you put too much mustard, it's almost uneatable.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: That's true, but dude, if you like overdo it on the ranch, you're gonna feel sick after like five bites.
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: Well, sure, but you're still like you can you can power through the ranch when you're taking the bite.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: Like, if you have too much ranch in one bite, yeah, it's not pleasant, but you can power through it and get to the meat.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: If you taste too much mustard, you're not getting that shit out.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: It's I I I know, but it's gonna be two different side effects.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: Ranch, your stomach is gonna say, I hate you so much, but with mustard, it's more like your throat and mouth are gonna be like, Okay, bro, let's relax, let's slow down.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: So it's gonna give you two different despairs.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, good first topic.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: I think hot sauce, you think mustard.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: I I I think I would get more.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: Um, we may put a poll out there, who knows?
- 51:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I it definitely I think it would definitely go.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: I since you were asking on the power ranking, it would definitely go mustard, hot sauce.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: That's a great answer.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: Mayo, ranch, and then everything else that's mayo is high though.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: It is on that.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: I know we're white guys, and um, I mean, even though your last name is Rodriguez, so we all know spiritually, even though you mark another box on applications, two or more races that mayo is the is is top freaking notch.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: I'm tired of pretending it's not.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: Get Miracle Whip out of my face, which I think miracle whip is fine.
- 51:43SPEAKER_02: I'm not it's fine, it's fine, but it's not mayo.
- 51:46SPEAKER_02: It's not it's not ailments or dukes.
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: It's give me some freaking mayo.
- 51:51SPEAKER_02: Um, okay, next topic.
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: This kind of ties into condiments a little bit.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: We talked about this earlier via Twitter.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: Um, spice versus flavor.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna give you to kind of explain what you mean by this.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: What I meant was that with this was whenever you're looking at a menu, whenever something says spicy, you should order it because it will be more flavorful than the other items on the menu because they'll actually be adding seasoning and spice to that dish, especially whenever you're at like a Mexican food restaurant or like an Asian food restaurant, there'll actually be some real flavor in that rather than some pretty muted stuff.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Was my whole point.
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: I think the entire concept of this is false.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: So just because something is spicy does not make it more flavorful, in my opinion.
- 52:46SPEAKER_02: I think you can get more flavorful by being simple sometimes, by adding more and more does not make it more flavorful.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: All it does is sometimes it just makes it high, sometimes it just makes it more of a crazy experience for you when you're eating something that's so spicy that it just burns the crap out of your mouth.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: So the example I used with you is seafood and steak.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: You don't just overload a steak with seasoning, you don't do that.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: But you want seasoning on it, but yeah, you do.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: You want salt on it, but a good steak does not need all this seasoning on it.
- 53:24SPEAKER_02: And if you have the good flavor of the meat, that's what makes it better, and that's what ups the experience versus just throwing a bunch of spice on it and saying, Oh, it's automatically better, it's more flavorful, you know.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: Like I also use seafood as an example, a scallop.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: You you pan fry a scallop, you put some butter and some salt on that.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: That is the best version of the scallop that you're gonna get.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: No matter you could put cayenne pepper, you could put all the Cajun seasoning you want, but it's not gonna be as good of an experience as if you put butter and salt on something.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: Steven, I feel like the biggest throwback I can respond with on that is blackened.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: Blackened, get it blackened, you know, like get a blackened style fish.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: But blackened, blackened is gonna be a spiced fish, my man.
- 54:14SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be delicious.
- 54:15SPEAKER_03: Are you kidding me?
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: That's not best.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: That's not the best type of fish.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: It absolutely can be.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: You know, so are you saying like all fish and steak, it's it's only at its best if it's only slightly salted?
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: No, those are no no no, those are just examples of you're you're I think the problem here is what you're saying is if something is hotter, if something has a little pepper next to the name on the menu, that automatically makes it more flavorful, which I disagree with because I think, yes, it may be hotter, it may be you know, warning the people that this is a spicier dish, as in this will probably burn your mouth at least slightly.
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but exactly.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: That doesn't that doesn't say anything else on the menu that doesn't have the little pepper next to its name is less flavorful.
- 55:06SPEAKER_03: I think it think it does, dude, because really the pepper is there, it's the keep.
- 55:10SPEAKER_03: I'm just the story is forever seared in my mind.
- 55:13SPEAKER_03: Whenever you were a waiter at a Mexican restaurant, a a woman ordered green beans, they were too spicy.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: They're they're trying to keep those people from ordering it so they don't send it back, you know.
- 55:27SPEAKER_02: I am well aware, as many people that were servers in their past.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: I I'm well aware of people that cannot handle the slightest of spice.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: It's usually uh Midwestern white woman coming in to the Mexican restaurant thinking and asking me if the green beans are spicy.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: And I say, No, ma'am.
- 55:45SPEAKER_02: Uh no, no, no green beans have ever been spicy in any dish ever.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Um, so she then gets an order of green beans, um, comes back to me and says, Hey, fella, this in fact is too spicy.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, ma'am, I think what they do with those green beans is they put a little beef bouillon cube in the big old pot, and that's how they serve it.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't know what to tell you when your tongue cannot handle anything.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: So I I that's what that's what I'm saying, man, is like whenever a restaurant's indicating something is spicy, that thing will have flavor, that thing will be tasty.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: Everything else will be good, but it may not be as exciting as what I'm ordering with the pepper.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: But then I'll bring this back to your favorite and uh one of the Lubbock staples, Chu Chai.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: So when we were in college, we lived across from Chu Chai across the street, right across right, yeah.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, you'd have to navigate 19th Street, uh, and at a busy time that's sometimes difficult.
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: But you would normally at Choo Chai get something that just kicks your ass and you're sweating, and you're just you're getting the number 35 or whatever.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: Um, and uh to me, the stuff that you would get is just like it's not even worth it.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: Like it's so hot, it ruins the experience.
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: For me, I like spicy food, I eat spicy food.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: I don't eat something that burns my mouth and makes the experience unenjoyable.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: So I would get something of the more mild variety, and to me, I don't think that's losing flavor, I just think that's bettering the experience to where I'm not in pain.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: Look, a part of it is a bit of machismo.
- 57:31SPEAKER_03: Like, I have to.
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: If he's gonna ask how spicy do I want it, this lizard brain, like alpha status wanting, is gonna be like, I must say spicy.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: Please kick my ass.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm gonna go hot fast.
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: This guy plowing down the food from this to go tray, and the he got the spice level that was top dog.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: This dude is sweating, he's red in the face, he cannot breathe hardly, has to go to the bathroom for 55 minutes afterwards, not quite an hour, but 55 minutes.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just to me, that experience is not worth it, and that doesn't make it more flavorful, it's just hot.
- 58:20SPEAKER_03: All right, fine.
- 58:20SPEAKER_03: We'll let the listeners decide.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: I I know the point you're trying to make, but I feel like my point is extremely valid that if something is indicated as spicy at your average restaurant, I don't even want to pull any stupid challenge or anything because obviously that's a given that's stupid.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: But I'm saying, like an average dish that says we're a little spicier, that thing's gonna be tasty.
- 58:42SPEAKER_03: I promise.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, sure.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: I I I don't necessarily disagree the kids' menu next time.
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: I do disagree with the I do disagree with the statement that spice more spice equals more flavor.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: I disagree with that pretty hardcore.
- 59:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, this one came off last minute.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: We're just gonna hit on it real quick.
- 59:05SPEAKER_02: Uh making tea, making tea in the morning.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: In the morning, in the morning, people drink tea.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: I don't drink tea in the morning.
- 59:14SPEAKER_02: I know because you like coffee.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: I don't drink tea in the morning.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: My mom loves tea in the morning.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: She doesn't like coffee.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: She drinks tea.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: Sorry, some people don't like coffee.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: Um, what's the best way to make tea in the morning?
- 59:27SPEAKER_02: Microwave or kettle?
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: I had to take the microwave side, I guess.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: My wife uses a kettle.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: That's the parentheses.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: My wife uses a kettle.
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: I this I didn't disclose this information during the conversation, and she actually drinks hot tea.
- 59:42SPEAKER_03: Look, I don't mind hot tea, but whatever I'm thinking, whatever, whenever we got that message about like Americans making tea in the microwave, my mind went straight to making bulk tea in the microwave to make for sweet iced tea.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: You make you put you get a whole pitcher and you put in the microwave and make sweet tea that way.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_03: No, it's you, you'll you'll get like a big picture, like yeah, like a glass pitcher for like you know, like a kitchen one, not like a plastic one.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: No, I understand.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: And then you know, you use a couple tea bags or whatever, and you get that thing real hot, and yeah, they'll make your a big old jug of sweet iced tea.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_03: That's how my mom always did it.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: That's what you first off, get an electric kettle and your wife has one, use it, please.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_03: But but how am I gonna do that for my iced tea?
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: For your you have to make tea hot.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_03: That's I know, but you have to do bulk for iced tea.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: You can't do a little thing, you let it cool, or there's this other thing, it's called the refrigerator.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: You put the tea in the refrigerator for a little bit and then it cools it down.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: Oh unbelievable, right?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_03: Well, that's but hey, are are you making the tea inside of the kettle or are you just using it for hot water?
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_02: I'm just using the hot water through the electric kettle.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: You're saying use a microwave to heat up your water.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_02: This isn't a uh this isn't even a conversation about tea, it's a conversation about heating up water.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: What is the best method to heat up water?
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: It's an electric kettle.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: Are you serious?
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: So you're whatever you need to make, whatever you heat up some water real quick, like say for a dish or medicine or something like that, you use a kettle like every time.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: I usually use the stovetop if it's for like you know, pasta or something.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_03: Well, no, I don't I okay.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_03: Uh well, you just need to heat something up really quick.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna use the kettle or the microwave?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: I'll probably use the kettle.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: What really?
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, like if you need to heat something up or medicine or something, or like a pouch or something like that.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: Well, I'll use like ramen, for example.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: If you're making one of those cups of ramen.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: What?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: And wait, whoa, really?
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if you the best way to make ramen is not just filling it up with tap water and then put in their microwave.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: It's get a kettle, warm it up, and then pour it into the thing and then put the put a lid on it or something for three minutes.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_03: Nah, dog, that thing's getting filled and thrown in the microwave.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_03: No, see, that's just a miracle of modern convenience.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: I love a microwave.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_02: I eat leftovers, it's great.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_03: This is not a grassade against the microwave as an appliance.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: This is just saying that a kettle is so much better for for making tea.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_02: And this argument was so freaking stupid that you brought up.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh no, we real men make it in the microwave.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: It's like this is kind of like my stupid spice argument.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_03: Like, real men have to sweat while they eat their pad thai.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: Otherwise, I'm a baby.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: Okay, otherwise, I'm a little girl, all right.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: I think I absolutely destroyed you in this first debate corner.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_02: Um, what okay?
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_03: The condiment one is not a destroy, all right?
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_03: And this neither is a spice.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: No, you're not.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_02: I am.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_02: No, the general, the general idea of what you said is wrong.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_02: It's all situational, okay?
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying go to a standard.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_02: You're walking it back.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: You're walking it back.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_03: This is no, my whole premise from the start was Mexican food or like an Asian food restaurant, and you know that.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_03: You know that.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_02: All right, don't put words about it, don't get it twisted.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_02: I do, I do not think that just because you got the little pepper, that means that thing is better to eat than another option.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_02: I don't believe that.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: It's true, it's not true.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, all right.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: We'll end debate corner, we'll save all of you a few more brain cells.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: Um, we will end it off here with a song of the week, like we always do.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: Tristan, what is your song of the week?
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_03: All right, dude.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go with a group I've never done before out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_03: A bit of a genre bend build uh bending group.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be uh Wilded Arrow.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: Ah, Wild Drado.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, Wild Dorado.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_03: It's we've been going on a bit, you know, when I've been sipping.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_03: So it's gonna be Wild Dorado in between featuring Ken Pomeroy.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_03: It is a weird, fun bop.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_02: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_02: You said Ken Pomeroy?
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: Ken Pomeroy does the college basketball rankings.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's him.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_03: Are you kidding me?
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_03: Wait, what?
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_03: Yes, it's it's absolutely him.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_03: What's the song called?
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_03: In between, featuring Ken Pomeroy, Wild Dado is the band.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_02: I am looking this up immediately after we get off the zoom here.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: Um okay.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, cool choice.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: I'm very, very confused.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_03: The camp rankings.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: This one's high.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: Bringing the college basketball flavor back in.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_02: Um, okay.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_02: Uh my song of the week to end it off.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_02: I know I'm late to the party.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, all the all of our wives and girlfriends have been all over this dude.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_02: Is this gonna be Taylor Swift?
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, never mind.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_02: Dude, this dude for at least a year at this point.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: Um Ed Sharon.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_02: Not no.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: Ed Sharon's been around for a little longer.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: Um, no, I don't know necessarily if it's Noah Kahan or if it's Noah Khan.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_03: No, he's he's he's he's uh he's really good.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_03: He's good, he's really good, he's really good, and I he's really freaking good.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_02: My my wife brought it up, and she listened to Stick Season, she listened to all this stuff, and I was like, I was like, okay, this is just the dude that like everybody's in love with for some reason.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: Like, I refuse to listen to the music.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_02: I was just like, okay, whatever.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: Started listening to the music, turns out really freaking good.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, it pretty much everything he does.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_02: Uh he's very folky, he's kind of a little country.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_02: Some of his songs are a little country, for sure.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_02: Um, but really more of a folky, um, you know, bending with pop genre type of guy.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: Um, but my song of the week is Noah Cahan, Paul Revere.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: Um, Paul Revere is a good jam.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: I I think my wife brought it up.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: It was like the second Noah Cahan song I I heard, and it's just really good.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: It's it's really about like not ever being able to leave your hometown, um, which is kind of a crazy concept because you think about like those people you went to high school with or whatever that haven't ever left and haven't ever experienced something.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_02: And um, this song kind of like embodies that of just like the idea of never leaving and wanting to get out and wanting to like broaden your horizons a little bit, so it's just fun.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, Paul Revere, Noah Kahan.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_05: One day I'm gonna cut it clear.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_03: Good pick, man.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I I feel like I eventually would have picked him as well.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: No, he he's actually really great.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_03: It's good to see a guy like him get really popular, you know, like actually some good music get into the mainstream.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, dude, good pick.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: All right, man.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: Well, that'll do it here for uh the talk at tech pod.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, probably no episode next week.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be out of town, got work stuff.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, but root on Texas Tech Basketball, Lady Raider basketball.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_02: Um, baseball starting up here pretty soon.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: So we're there's a lot more coming.
