- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: I am Sean Boyle, and I am joined by a founding father of the program.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: One of my closest friends is Mr.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Michael Collins, MC.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: How are you?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Sean, I'm doing great.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: We've got our uh very first bad beat of the college football season under our belt already.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Week one hasn't even started.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, that is a week zero bad beat.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: So uh things are off to a roaring start for us here.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: That's that's just par for the course.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: That's an introductory to football season.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: You have to take on a few bad beats, especially early.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: I will say, Collins, we have a few things to get to before we get into what is going to be a very, very football-centric episode.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: So we'll start in the pro ranks and then we'll make our way to college as week one is actually here.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: Week zero doesn't count.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: We could throw away that loss, that bad beat.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Doesn't count.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: We have a couple things to get into.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: This is the first episode of season two.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: So we started the podcast last year in September.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: This is an anniversary of sorts.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Happy to have you on the program for such an occasion.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Happy to be here.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I'm uh I'm I'm honored and happy anniversary to you, to you and the Tortured fans uh uh community.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: It's it's all about the community, not about me.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: I will say it's also a good time to announce that the fall merch is in the shop.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: So go ahead, in sync, buy, buy, buy.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: Lots of cool designs.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: We've got some football stuff, we've got some autumnal seasonal things.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: I think there's something in there for everybody.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Go check it out, torturefans.com.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Buy or die.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: That's that's an interesting way to phrase it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't hate it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: I don't hate it.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Start us off, Collins.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk about the NFL.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: And you have covered the NFC, I have covered the AFC.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: We've divided and conquered, and what we're gonna do is just bring to you some storylines that have caught our attention as we head into the season.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: We'll cover the NFC first.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Why don't you kick things off?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's fitting that we cover the NFC first, reigning champions two times over.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Normally, the the NFC champion is is the one hoisting the Lombardi as well.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So that's actually incorrect.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: That's actually incorrect.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: As is such, the LA Rams have absolutely dominated the headlines this offseason.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: So they're heavy, heavy Super Bowl favorites now.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Uh they traded for Miles Garrett early in the offseason, and they just very recently brought future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald out of retirement.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: So, really, the conference is theirs to lose, and they're they're an absolutely stacked team, both sides of the ball, offense, defense, special teams.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Now, this is I'm saying all this provided that they can get past the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: You know, Sean McVay is one and six in his career against the Eagles, with the one win being Jalen Hurts rookie year, where uh the Eagles lost, and I believe Carson Wentz started that game.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: The Eagles only won four games that year.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: So if they can get the monkey off their back against those big bad Philadelphia Eagles, they'll they're they're in pretty good shape to win this Super Bowl, I'd say.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, before we divided this into conferences, the first storyline I had in my head, too, was also the Rams.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: I think they're the talk of the whole NFL, not just the NFC, especially this week because of Aaron Donald joining the ranks.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I'm interested to see what he still has left in the tank.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: I'm assuming it's going to be pretty strong just because the fact that he was an absolute freak of nature throughout his whole career.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, I think he was he out for two seasons.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So you know, he's coming off the couch.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: It's it will definitely be interesting to see.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: If anybody can do it, it'll be him.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: And I think it'll be easier for him because he's never played with anybody half as good as Miles Garrett.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: So I think just that combination of like you can't double-team them both, or else there's gonna be some real problems in your backfield.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Otherwise, I I think it's gonna be fascinating to watch their defense, and then obviously their offense is loaded and is coached by one of the best offensive minds in the NFL.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I did not know that little McVay stat about his record against the Eagles.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: That's interesting.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: I actually monitor that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: I actually I had to look it up because off the top of my head, I thought he was winless against the Eagles, but that one I erased that season from my mind when they where I think they were 4-11-1 that year.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: So uh congrats on the one win against the bottom feeder Eagles, but uh we'll see how you can do when we're when we're properly stacked up.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for the Rams, the they are in a tough division, which is one interesting thing.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: That that division is always tough, and then it's kind of just gonna be how healthy they can stay.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: They are on the older side as a team, it's not just Aaron Donald.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Miles Garrett's on the wrong side of 30, Stafford's, I mean, almost 40.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Definitely, and you you have a little tiny nagging injury to to Stafford, a little shoulder or something, and that derails the entire season.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: So it's you know, health is paramount for sure.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: As with everybody, of course.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Of course, but when they're deep into their 30s, it becomes a little easier to point to health as an issue.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: And then Puka Nakua, who's not old, but not a good guy.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he doesn't seem to be on the best path forward.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: He has had a tumultuous career thus far, just outside of the lines.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: And also he checked himself in a rehab this summer and then got out and a couple days later walked through a glass door.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm not exactly sure of the comings and goings of Pukanakua, but he is another thing you just have to keep an eye on.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: A much, much better football player than person, Puka Nakua is.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Which is which is the case for a lot of these guys, if you do break down just statistically speaking.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're pretty good at football to make it to the NFL.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Let's keep it in the NFC West Collins.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: What else do you have?
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Totally, yeah.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Staying out west.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: The Seattle Seahawks with their uh title defense uh this year, you know, they lost a couple big guys, Rek Wollen and Boye Mafe, on the defensive side, but they're still gonna be incredibly strong on that side of the ball under uh Mike McDonald, the the very first inductee into the good coaches club, Torture Fans Department.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: So I expect big things out of them.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Time's only gonna tell about uh offensively.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: They lost my guy, Clint Kubiak.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: So we're that that might hurt the offense.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: They also lost your guy, Kenneth Walker.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: They replaced him with first round pick, Jajarian Price.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: So I I expect big things from him for sure.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So that that is very interesting.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: And you know, just sticking out out west still, you pair those, the Rams, the Seahawks, and then you factor in the uh insane off-the-walls offseason that the 49ers have had, and that division is just kind of everywhere.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: You're a hundred percent right.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: The 49ers are similar to the Rams in a lot of ways for me, where they're not as talented as the Rams are, but they are talented, and they're also on the wrong side of 30, a lot of them.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Like McCaffrey, Kittle, some of the Debo's back in the fold.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: A lot of these guys are not exactly spring chickens.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Defensively, they're basically all coming off injuries.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Bosa, Warner.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: They're always hurt.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: They're blaming, they're blaming all different sources for those injuries.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: You can hear a new excuse every every day.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: But they're a fascinating team to keep an eye on.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: But I completely agree with you.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: The Seahawks, you were onto Mike McDonald early, and I have to just clap my hands, give you credit.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: He is an absolute beast of a coach.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: I do think the Kubiak loss is probably the only thing being underrated in Seattle.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: It seems like they kept the team intact for the most part.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: Lost a couple guys here and there, like you mentioned, but there's a lot to be excited about roster-wise.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: It's just sometimes you never know when you have a really good coordinator how substantial that drop-off could be.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I'm an Eagles fan.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I see it when we go to the Super Bowl and lose both coordinators, and the next year we stink.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Well, let's take let's take the conversation there to the East.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: What do you think about what do you think about the Eagles' chances of maintaining the division title, which doesn't happen often in the NFC East?
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Well, they're yeah, right.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: They're they're back-to-back East champs for the first time this century, maybe, or maybe it was like 2001, 2002, or something like that.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, they're the betting favorite, which I would have to agree with.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: They're being incredibly disrespected by media members all across all platforms.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Jalen Hurts's name is being dragged through the mud, unsurprisingly.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: People hate hate the Eagles just to hate the Eagles and for no reason otherwise.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: I I think that this season could go really well.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: It could also go really poorly.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Health, you know, just like we said about the Rams, that a lot of the the Eagles guys have a tendency to get banged up too.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: If Lane Johnson misses a lot of time, the Eagles are very much gonna struggle.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: So it'll be interesting.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: But what I do feel good about is the the rest of the division.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: The Cowboys are are absolute phonies.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: They haven't scared me for quite some time, and they won't.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: They'll of course win some win some regular season games, they'll put a bunch of points up on the board.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Cd Lamb and George Pickens are are pretty great tandem, but uh when push really comes to shove, they're not a they're not a winning franchise, they're not winners, they don't know how to do that.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: The commanders had a cute little run a couple years back.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Jaden Daniels coming off of a big time injury.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: They still feel like they're also with Jaden Daniels calling, sorry to interrupt.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: The commanders, it's not just them that are having some issues with Jaden Daniels.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: His health's been an issue in the NFL.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: He's left LSU in in an absolute ruin.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: He's throwing a tantrum about his number.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: And then also, if you think back to Arizona State, didn't his teammates there hate him as well?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he seems like a complete malcontent.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: And he's also he also seems focused on a lot of things besides this NFL football season.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: So I'm and how about we throw Stephon Diggs into the chat too?
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I actually forgot that they had him until a couple weeks ago.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: He's always up to he's always up to that'll go well.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're not good enough defensively, I don't think either.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And then the Giants could be sneaky uh under Harbaugh.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Jackson Dart showed some flashes last year, but again, they're the Giants.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: I'm not like that's not really striking that much fear into me.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: I'm actually glad I'm not an Eagles fan, so you're getting a true perspective here that's not tainted in any way.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: I couldn't agree more with you on the Cowboys, first of all.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: A lot of people are starting to pick them as oh, they're kind of a dark horse this year, you know, the defense is actually better than you think.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: It's late August.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: That's what that's it, that's what this time of year is for.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yep.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: That's people talking themselves into the Cowboys.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: While it's still hot out, believe me, it is 92 today, they're talking cowboy football.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Now, also on the Giants, I'm also out on them.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: A lot of people are saying because of Harbaugh, he's gonna raise their floor.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: I kind of don't think Harbaugh's uh shoe in to do that anymore.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: I don't think he's been that great of a coach for maybe the better part of the last 10 years.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it might have passed him by a little bit, but he's still he like no matter which way you slice it, he's a massive, massive upgrade for what they whatever they've been doing at the head coach position for a long time now.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: So that's fair.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: Now, I think we're both in agreement the Eagles pretty pretty favored to win the NFC East.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: I would be shocked if either of us picked that division to go any other way.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't even be shocked if the Cowboys come and take it from them, but it all depends on on health and uh and what this Eagles offense looks like under Sean Manion.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting to see.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Now let's before we talk about maybe the best division in football, let's talk about the worst.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Let's quickly just cover the NFC South.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: This division, it hasn't been good in uh I I would say 15 years.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: I can't remember the last time it was good.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: What do you what do you do in the NFC South?
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: Who do you pick to win this thing?
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Uh I puke all over my shirt, is what I do when I look at this division.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: It's gross.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I believe Panthers were eight and nine last year and and got into the playoffs.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Uh bucks beat those Rams.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: They almost did.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: They almost did.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: The Bucs should be okay if they can stay healthy.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: They just I I believe they just re-signed Vitavea, so that's nice for them.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: They got some nice weapons on offense.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: They got my guy Kenny Gainwell down there.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Your guy, Kenny Gainwell.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: So I would probably pick the Bucks, but uh it they're yeah, I don't know.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Uh the Falcons are have previously been my guys.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: They're trotting out two uh two anon.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: No thanks.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, can we get an official statement for you on the Falcons?
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Because you famously have been a devout supporter.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm not all the way, I can't say I'm all the way out.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: It's like uh it's like an ex who just can't totally quit.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: And I'm most certainly not in, don't get me wrong.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to monitor the I'm going to monitor the situation because if we get competent play from the quarterback, I might call I might be back in.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: So I can't call myself fully, fully out.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Uh the Saints are are are building something nice.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I love Kellen Moore, of course.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Uh we're we're gonna touch on on the Saints a little bit later in our uh fantasy preview as well, just as just a sneak peek for you there.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, the Saints won't be a good team this year, of course not.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: None of them will be a good team.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no good teams in the NFC South.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: You could see, you could talk yourself into the Bucks being a half decent team.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Because if you look at their roster, they still do have some pieces if Baker's able to stay upright.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he just was so injured last year that I don't know, he might be a broken man.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: And I'm pretty sure.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Not everybody was.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I think got Godwin missed a lot of time.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: First year he didn't have a thousand yards and he's gone.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yep, he's yeah, so so yeah, I that division doesn't even deserve a playoff spot, if we're honest.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: They I don't know whether that's a rule that should be stripped.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: But the division that does might have three playoff teams in it, and potentially four good teams, is the NFC North.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: I'm very bullish in this division, Collins.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: How do you see this one just broadly?
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: What are you looking for?
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Totally agree.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's there's no reason not to be bullish.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Uh the Bears seem to have stayed incredibly strong.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking for a big thing out of your guy Caleb this year.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: The Packers are a team that you know are going to be around in the playoffs.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: It's just a matter of can they get over the hump?
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Can they, you know, finally get Jordan Love a couple wins in the playoffs and try to put together a little run of their own.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I think that Micah Parsons is hurt to start the season, so uh they'll have to manage without him.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: But it's almost it may be almost for the better.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: So he gets a little comes in fresh with this long season.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: But uh, and then the Vikings are a total mystery at the quarterback position, of course, but they have just as much talent as as the rest of them uh on the offensive side anyway.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: And so it should be an absolute battle.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: And then, of course, the of course the Lions.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: But yeah, totally.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: They're they like you said, I think it might be three uh playoff teams and an absolute battle to the end.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I am all in on a lot of teams in this vision, and I've kind of talked myself into the Vikings being pretty good as well.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: I don't know that they will be, but because I I've hated Kyler Murray in the past.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: But something about this Kevin O'Connell, he's got he's got some good PR around him, Collins.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he loses some football games, and then that you immediately just talk yourself into no, he's a good coach.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: So there's a few coaches that are like that in the NFL with great marketing teams, where no matter how their teams do, I think Stefanski's another one.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, everybody's like, oh, he's such a good coach in Atlanta.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: He's like, is he?
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: I don't know that he is.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: He was all in on Deshaun Watson just a year or two ago.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: There's some guys, the Kevins in this league, they might be getting away with a little bit of something, but I do like him.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: I every down every time I hear him talk, I'm in, I just think the Vikings might be half decent.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: And I think they're the worst team in this league.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: So when you look at it that way, yeah, the Bears, their offense is going to be good.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Ben Johnson just, I feel like no matter where he goes, he's gonna put up numbers offensively.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: I'm a little bit worried about their defense.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: I think the Packers are, like you said, you know what you're gonna get with Green Bay.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: They're kind of just always a good football team, if not ever, maybe able to get over that hump.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: And then the Lions are kind of the X factor for me because they have the potential to win this division.
- 16:20unknown: Yeah.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: And they also have the potential for Dan Campbell's run there to be over.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: What would you say is more likely to happen?
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: I would say, oh man, a franchise like the Lions that at least in our lifetime has traditionally not been successful.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: I would have a hard time seeing them fire Dan Campbell after what he's done for for the organization.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: So I would say it's much more likely that they go ahead and win that division.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: I think there's even a pretty solid chance.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the betting odds are on that, but um, yeah, there I think there's a much better chance they win the division than he gets sacked.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Is that an actual uh storyline that's out there?
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Or people it maybe maybe it's yeah, I think maybe if it isn't this season, if if they underachieve and finish third in this division, maybe I could see him definitely being on the hot seat going into next year.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: So maybe it's not like a winner you're out situation, but it does it would feel like if they have a bad year this year, that that window when a couple years ago when they played the commanders in the playoffs, they were the best regular season team in the NFL, yeah, right up there.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: It feels like that window might be shut at that point.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Or were they in were they in the NFC Championship a little bit?
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Or no, did they they lost to the Rams the one year?
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, they lost to the Rams.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: I think they lost to the Commanders once too.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe they did lose to the Commanders.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: Goff through like five picks.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: So that's when that's their whole thing.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but that's that's also the other thing is that you gotta watch out for Jared Goff throwing that slinging that pig skin around.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: He like he can throw it to the other team sometimes.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: So especially in the elements.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: He he's a guy who does not require confidence outside in in like winning football in the playoffs.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: You look at Jared Goff and like, oh boy, he looks like a raisin.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: And a tough division to to have that be the case.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: So you gotta go to Lambo and Chicago in December.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not exactly great.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Let's switch gears to the AFC.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: I think there's a lot less to talk about.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's just me, but I feel like a couple more of these divisions are just relatively uninteresting.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: The one that interests me the most is the NFC the AFC West.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: This one, the question I want to pose to you, Collins, is the Chiefs run over, on pause, or are they back?
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: It all it's like all Mahomes dependent.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: I wanna I wanna currently I want to say that they're currently on pause.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: They need to reload uh in the weapons department, and the clips that are servicing you can't take preseason clips in into much account, but I'm doing it anyway.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: He doesn't quite look fully healthy.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know, he almost like still looks hobbled.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: So this might be uh a potential gap year for them, even and Kelsey's kind of gotta go.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: He looks like he weighs a thousand pounds when he's running with the football.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I I think it's on pause, but that's I think to answer your question, I think it what I'd have to call it a pause, but it's totally if Mahomes can come back from this injury and like be uh a proper passer with having less mobility, because that's kind of been uh one of his big things throughout his career.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: So yeah, you could argue that's been one of his like distinguishing skills, extending plays and making crazy plays he haven't seen before.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: I would agree on pause, maybe a slightly different reason I'll give, but it just kind of seems like they're they need a rebuild and they've been putting it off because they've been winning.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: And then last year they didn't win, but then they wrote it off to the Mahomes injury and just a down year, and they didn't.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: They were really bad before that injury.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: And their offense was really bad two years ago, where they faked it and then in the Super Bowl got it.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: So I I don't know.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: I think they've been delaying the inevitable because of like a Travis Kelsey and a Chris Jones, who are almost done with things that they could give you on a weekly basis, but they're not quite off the team yet.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of like we're holding out hope we can make this championship run, but I'm just not so sure they can't.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they're sort of falling into like the tugging on the heartstrings because those guys have given so much and you know won all those Super Bowls, but you gotta cut them loose because they're just no good anymore.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: So I I would say that I don't think Mahomes is done winning in his career.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: I think that'd be crazy to say.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: But I think this iteration of the Chiefs, we're on pause.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: I think they're just gonna be a middling team this year, which leads me to the point.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: I'm buying some stock elsewhere in this division.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I was gonna say you you called the NFC North possibly the best division of football.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: This, you know, the Raiders will probably not be great, but this has a uh strong case to be that.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: It has the makings.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: It has the makings, and I think the Broncos, I'm not a Bonex guy, but their team around him is set up to win.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: They have a really good defense, they have a really good offensive line.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: They're in they're in a good position.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Can I interest you once again?
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: This is a yearly.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: You sure can I interest you in some charger shares?
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Because I'm I'm all in.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is only going to be the 25th time that I say the phrase if they can stay healthy, which the Chargers cannot.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you right now, they they can't and they won't stay healthy.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: But imagine if they do, like they could be the best team in the NFL.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, totally.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm I'll buy Charger stock right now.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: With Mike McDaniel coming in, uh, they got all sorts of pieces on offense.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Herbert has turned into a pumpkin in the playoffs previously, but I I mean with talent like he has, it's only a matter of time, I think, until he puts up.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: You gotta think, right?
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: And even if not, he's so intoxicating, too.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: He's just like the prototypical franchise quarterback that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: You look at him and you talk yourself into what could be.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: And I once again's the megastar girlfriend.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: He's got everything.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: The flowing hair, 6'5, playing in LA.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: It's like, okay, dude.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: But that leads us to the point where here we are, once again, it's early September, still hot outside.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: Chargers, we're talking ourselves into them.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Chargers Cowboys.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: It's all the Super Bowl matchup.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: It's all the August Super Bowl matchup.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: I will also say they won 11 games last year, and he lost both of his starting tackles before the season.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And he got beat the fuck up the whole season.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: Like if you remember, they're picking him up like he was inside the turf on some place.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: So I'm bullish on the Chargers.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: I think they'll be good.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: I think that division will be good.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and having said all of that about the Chargers and the Chiefs, the Broncos could probably are the best team in the division.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if you want to pick the safest, like these guys will win more than eight, nine games.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: It's the Broncos are the safest bet.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: I'm in on the AFC West.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Let's move to the AFC South.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: I'm not in on the AFC South, but I I will say I've talked myself into a big bounce back year for CJ Stroud.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: I I kind of agree with you.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: I think like it couldn't have totally been a full-on fluke what we saw is his rookie year.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: And you know, do do the opposing DCs just have his number now?
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Maybe, but that they're loaded up with talent, especially on defense.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Uh that's one of the best in the league.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: So yeah, them, and I know, Sean, I know you're big into the Jags this year with Liam.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: You know I'm not.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: You know I'm not.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: I am not a Liam Cohen guy.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: I'm not a Jaxville Jags guy.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: I will throw it to you though.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: You have been.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: They're not exactly like the Falcons for you, but you've been a Trevor guy in the past.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: You might be a recovering one.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: But what are your thoughts on your Jags heading into this year?
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: I I dabble.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm yeah, I'm a recovering junkie, Jags junkie.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: I've been in and out, in and out of the AFC South rehab uh rehabilitation system, but I don't know.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, I love Liam Cohen, so we'll they're very interesting to me.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Also, the Jags, I think they play six games in Jacksonville this year.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: So sick.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: They've got to be a good one.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really gross.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think the Eagles play them in London.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: So it's so funny.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a true road game for the birds.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: They are London's favorites.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: Of course, how could they not be?
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: We we talked to NFC West at nauseum.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I totally forgot to mention the very first game of the NF NFL season is in Melbourne.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Like, what are we doing?
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: It's I think it's the Rams and the Niners.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: It's like crazy.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: And I think the Rams are showing up like four hours before the game starts.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: They're not like I heard something about that.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that's crazy.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: The the Niners might take a full month to recover from that flight.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: They won't recover.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: The Niners season ended when the schedule came out.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: They'll just be like, Well, how are we supposed to prepare for Australia?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Absolutely insane that we're playing games in Melbourne.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: It elsewhere in the uh AFC, the South, I think it's a one-horse race.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: We we both kind of agree on that.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: I don't think either the Titans are we'll take a wait and see approach.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: I've been invested in Cam Ward.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: I can say with some certainty now that I'm I'm at least up for a debate whether he's good or not.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: I don't, I was sure of myself last year.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: I'm not so sure now.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: I think he might be bad, but we're keeping that in the trust tree.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Uh so did you mean one horse race as in like it's the Texans and that's it?
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: I think it's the Texans and that's it.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: I think the Jags can can challenge them for it, but the the Texans are are incredible.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Maybe the best, like we said, maybe the best defense in the league.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: That's I guess I would be I kind of we did just talk about the Jags, but there's something about them I haven't grown to trust yet.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: But last year they were objectively a lot better than I thought they'd be.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think people think they'll get better in year two under William Cohen.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: So I guess.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: And we didn't we didn't mention the Colts, they were absolutely buzzing before Daniel Jones went down.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: So that's true.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: It could be sneaky.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: I that's good totally depends on Stroud.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: It's all on Stroud's shoulders, essentially.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: That's what happens, is you start talking about it out loud, and you're like, well, why do they say one horse race?
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: I could easily see Daniel Jones and the Colts doing better than the Texans.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: The AFC South is always a weird one.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: It's got some NFC South vibes to it.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Definitely, it's just a little bit better as a whole, but except, yeah, with good football teams.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the East before we get to my division.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: The East is, I think we could agree on this.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: This is as clear of a two-horse race as they come.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: We're not gonna spend time on the Jets and the Dolphins, they're dog shit franchises with dog shit players.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: And they're coaches and owners and a lot of things are need to go right for a lot of years before they make this podcast.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: The bread and butter of this division, even though last year they weren't, I think it's still the Buffalo Bills.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: I think they're the team you should lead with.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: I do trust the Bills.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: Even though it's weird, they have a new coach.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: That's how little I thought of Sean McDermott that I'm just slotting in the new coach to immediately be as good or better.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: That might be disrespectful of me, but I just think Josh Allen finally has a decent number one receiver again.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: DJ Moore, he's kind of an enigma, but he's good when he's out there.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: And I think he'll have a good connection with Josh Allen.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty bullish on the bills this year, and I think that the Patriots' easy schedule last year might come back to bite them now.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I I love Joe Brady.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: I was dying for the Eagles to hire him as as OC a few years back, but they didn't, and it turned out incredibly well anyway.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: So I think I think the the Bills are gonna be awesome.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: I'm down on the Patriots a little bit more this year.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: I think they uh they had an absolute cakewalk of a schedule.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: I don't think that I know that.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Uh it's just statistical facts.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be good.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: They have AJ Brown, who's probably gonna tear that locker room apart by the seams once Drake Mae makes a bad pass like he did all the entirety of the playoffs.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: But yeah, no, this this is this will be interesting between the two of those teams.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: They're both strong, and they both get to beat up on the Jets and the Dolphins, so it must be nice.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it definitely inflates your win totals when you have two teams in your division that are as bad as those two, as consistently as those two are bad.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: I do agree with what you just said about the Patriots.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: I I'm a believer in Drake May.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: I think he's really good.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: I think Frabel's a good coach.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: They're of course there's been some storylines about him this offseason that seem like sure has.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they that does that seems like years ago, and it was like two months ago, which is crazy.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Was this the craziest NFL offseason of all time, possibly?
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: It's up there, it's unbelievable.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: The 49ers stories by themselves, yeah, and then you factor in the the massive trades and then the the Vrable Rossini thing.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Like, oh my goodness.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: It's been great all offseason long, which we need.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: We deserve that.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: We deserve little nuggets to get us through.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: I think the Bills will be the safer pick in this division, but there is a world where AJ Brown is amazing for the Patriots this season before it gets really toxic.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Because I think we will all say it will get toxic at some point with AJ, but Vrabel's been the guy that has kept him in check.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: No, I mean he is a really, really, really good wide receiver, obviously.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: So if he's healthy, if his body's healthy and his brain is properly healthy, then he's going to be an incredible weapon for the Patriots.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Does that lead them to back-to-back divisions?
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Who's to say?
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Who's to say?
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I'll I'll lead with the Bills, but we'll get more in depth on our actual picks for the season in next week's NFL-centric preview.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: Last division we have to talk about is the AFC North, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Collins, this division has the feel of a bunch of old war generals that have been they've been to a lot of battles together, and they're way past their pump.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: You know, the the new modern-day war tactics have passed it passed them by, and they're still learning what a drone is and things of that nature.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: And it feels like they're just rallying the troops for one final go.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: That's what it feels like at Pittsburgh, but I also think that's true with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, weirdly enough.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: It's just the same story every year.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Their defense stinks and he's never healthy, and he gets beat to shit.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: And then it's not too dissimilar in Baltimore either.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: Like, yes, they're good in the regular season, usually, but Jim Lamar Jackson has been so brutal in the playoffs that his career feels like it's signing up for the same thing over and over again.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: And that's all without mentioning the oldest dog, the Cleveland Browns, who have been subject to the same thing for their franchise's entire history.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: It's really a sad division when you think about it.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: It really is gross.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, to start with the Browns, they're they're trotting massage boy back out there.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: And that is just I feel I couldn't feel worse for their fans.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: No, they don't matter, but they're a good bunch.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: They're a good bunch.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: I just had to look up the Bengals head coach because I saw I thought certainly Zach Taylor isn't there anymore.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Turns out he is, he's still there.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: So I'm sure that'll go fine.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: I would I'd like to toss the ball back to your court.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: And how do you feel about old old balls Mike McCarthy leading leading the uh yellow and black into battle every Sunday?
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, bad.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: I feel not good about it.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: What am I supposed to feel?
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: It's an eerily similar feeling to Mike Tomlin.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: And I just like Mike Tomlin a hell of a lot more as a man and as a ball coach.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: So I don't think we upgraded in any way.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: I think I guess I should say I think the offense will be better.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: Just I feel like he's a more offensive coach, but I don't think they'll be any better of a team.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: I think they'll be pretty undisciplined.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: I think they'll be still the same on defense where it's just increasingly frustrating week after week when they do the same things over and over.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: They try this banger.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: TJ will get his 20, though.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, thanks.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: I don't even know if he will.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: But they're they're just not there's nothing inspiring about that group.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: And you could try to talk yourself into Rogers one final run, reignited with this coach.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: You could try.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it's not it's not going anywhere.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: You know how this ends.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: I know how it ends.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: The sooner we accept it, the better.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: But the only thing I could say is I just really don't know that there's any single team in this division that's super inspiring.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: I think if I had to pick one for the future, Jesse Minter does seem like a good coach in Baltimore.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna say, I don't know, I don't know much about Jesse Minter, to be quite honest with you.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Um I don't either, but people talk about him as if he's an X big thing.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: So that makes me think, all right, at least there's something about him, you know.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: When you look around the division, and it's Zach Taylor, Mike McCarthy.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I would I would pick the Ravens to win this one this year, but they're you know, when it comes down to playoff time, Lamar's not exactly inspiring all that much confidence in me either.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: So it's the war general division.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: They've all fought too many battles, mostly with each other, and nobody's ever been successful.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: I would pick the Bengals to win the division, but I don't think it's by much.
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: So we're done with the division talk.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: We've talked about some storylines.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: A lot of people have their fantasy football drafts this week, Collins.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: They're coming up, they're either this week or next.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: This is the most popular draft weekend of the year.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: We have our fantasy draft this weekend.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: A lot of our friends in the league probably listen to this.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna tip our we're gonna show our hand quite a bit, I would say.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I actually thought that this segment was strictly intended for me to do that to you.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: And I fully expected you as a schemer to toss out some names you are wholly uninterested in.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: So looking forward to hearing those.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: This is in good faith.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: I I care about our listeners too much to do anything in bad faith.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: The accusations I catch on the show, a schemer, is wild.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: I I have I could assure you, we we've each prepared three guys.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: We are both very interested in all three of them.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: We could frame each of them how we go, Collins, but these are basically guys that we want on our team almost at all costs.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Would you would you agree with that?
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: I have a little bit of value like baked into to my guys as well.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: They're guys, they're guys we want this year in fantasy that we think are maybe being undervalued or are gonna have better years than expected.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: I'll let you start things off with your first one.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: First one off the bat, we lined on this guy last year as a rookie, so much so that it got contentious.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Uh Ameka Abuka, incredible wide receiver out of the out of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: I think he's he's poised for a big year, too.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: He he has Chris Godwin still on next lining up next to him.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: He can still command some respect to to free up Omeka as well.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: He's got Zach Robinson as new offensive coordinator coming from the Falcons.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: And I feel like the way that he has had Drake London pop with the Falcons uh can certainly translate over to the to the Bucs.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: So Omeka Ubuka is is a guy I'm looking for for sure.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you started it off 100% correct.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: We both loved him last year to the point where we fought about him at the draft and then ended up trading them to each other during the season.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: I completely agree.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: I love Ibuka.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: I think that's a great one to start things off.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: I have two tight ends, which is a surprise to nobody that listens.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: I'm a tight end guy through and through.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: The first one for me, I swear my teams just perform better when he's on them.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: He's a great locker room guy.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: And I think he's being disrespected because of this Achilles injury, but it's George Kittle.
- 35:37SPEAKER_02: His draft value is completely tanked because he is 32 years old coming off an Achilles really quickly.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: He intends to play week one in Australia.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: I think he tore his Achilles like six months ago.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: That's kind of a big ask.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: But I do think when you look at that 49ers offense, it's really just him and McCaffrey in terms of proven commodities.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: I think he's gonna have a huge year.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: I think he'll stay healthy.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: George Kittle's a guy I always want on my fantasy team.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: He's a captain and a great locker room guy.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Are you forgetting about Unc Mike Evans and Fat Debo?
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Fat Debo, I thought about, cleared him.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: He's he's a loser.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: Mike Evans, I think he just might have lost a step.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: I'm not too in on my book.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, for sure.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: No doubt.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Stripling, they they drifted.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: He's gonna be solid.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean, Boyle Kittle combo is like death and taxes.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: Put it right next to those two.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: So when he's on, he's on.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: He's what he's certainly one of the best in the league, if not the best.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: How many weeks are you gonna have him out there?
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: That's the question mark.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, Kittle's a beast for sure.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: That's that's fair.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: I do think we get a great George Kittle season.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: It might be his last great season, but I think this is a great, great season.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Who's your second guy?
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: My second guy.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: I'm going to I'm going to the tight ends as well.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: If you if you haven't noticed uh through the first 45 minutes of this podcast, I'm a big Eagles fan and I love love Dallas Goddard.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: Last year, Dallas Goddard career highs in both receptions and touchdowns.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: Um, this year he's got Target Hawk, the the audible demander of targets who is AJ Brown.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Um, he's gone.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: See ya.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Bye-bye.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Goddard very, very easily could be one of the focal points of the offense.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: New offense under Sean Mannion.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Him along with Devontae Smith are are the top two targets here.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: They drafted Mikai Lemon.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: He's a total question mark, though.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: But at the tight end position, when you're talking value, a guy you could get much later on.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: I love Dallas Goddard.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: I'm happy to hear you say that because I Goddard, like I'm not an Eagles fan, so it wouldn't be on my radar.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Like I wouldn't have thought of the, you know, AJ Brown left, new coordinator, those sort of things.
- 37:51SPEAKER_02: I just have images in my head left here that Eagles offense being so hard to watch because I own Saquon.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: It was a disaster.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: Disgusting.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: But I like the fact that there's a new OC.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: Goddard's clearly talented, and he's going really late in draft.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: So that's a good one.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: I'll keep it in the tight end room right there with you.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go back to back tight ends.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: We're running 12.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: And I absolutely love Colston Loveland.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: I think he was excellent in the second half last season.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: He was a rookie tight end, so he started a bit slow.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: But I think he is going to be a monster this year, and I think the Bears' offense is going to be nothing short of spectacular.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: I'm very worried about the Bears' defense, but we don't care about that in fantasy.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: No, Loveland is an absolute monster.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: I I couldn't agree more.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I have no additional notes, he's gonna be a beast.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: I was worried about like when he was drafted, I thought Tyler Warren was the clear best tight end in that draft.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: And then I watched them both last season.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: I still think Tyler Warren's really good.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: Warren's great too.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: I think Warren's great, but I think Loveland is way better than I was giving him credit for, and he's elite.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a little like he feels a little bit more dynamic as a as a route runner.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: I could be totally, totally wrong about that from the nerds who uh know know things about route running, but you're not.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Let me tell you this.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: As a guy who knows nothing about route running, you're right.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: Warren just feels like the guy who's gonna sit, or I'm sorry, uh yeah, Tyler Warren feels like the guy who's gonna sit over the middle and catch absolutely everything.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: But Loveland is more athletic downfield threat, uh, in my my uneducated opinion on the matter.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: That brings me to my final uh guy, and this is this is value on a stick for you.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: If you're a guy like me who loves to just wait around, sit on your hands, sit on your hands, don't draft a quarterback yet, don't draft a quarterback yet.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: Keep on waiting, a couple more rounds, maybe I'll get them.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Tyler Shuck, I I teased that the Saints would come back up in this episode, and here they are.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Year two in Calvin Moore's offense.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: I love the offensive system Calvin Moore has going on down there.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: And Tyler Shuck did more with way less last year once he officially took over for Spencer Rattler.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: And so he absolutely shined in some cases.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: Now, what hurts is uh they drafted Jordan Tyson first round.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: He's now hurt.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's gonna be all season or if he'll come back eventually.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: Um so that's a killer, but uh they got Travis Etienne in there to hopefully free up some uh some room on the ground as well.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: So just offensive system that he can flourish in, and you pair it with the fact that the Saints will very likely be trailing in almost every game that they're playing.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: So he should be slinging the rock around a little bit this year.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you almost like having quarterbacks on bad teams in fantasy because it means game script is going to be against them, they'll be throwing.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Very similar, Collins.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: The whole time you were speaking, I just did a draft with one of my good friends, Tyler Myers.
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: He absolutely loves Tyler Shuck, and he is always the same as you and sometimes me, where we just wait for quarterbacks way too long.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: And he was playing a waiting game and did exactly what you said.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: He scooped up Shuck late and he said, I I feel perfectly content.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: He is a guy.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: If you if you decide to do that and want to wait, he's you're much more reliable than like a Kyler who you can get at uh around the same level.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm I'm in on Tyler Shuck this year.
- 41:15SPEAKER_02: I said just a second ago we like taking quarterbacks from bad teams sometimes.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: I love taking running backs from good teams.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: You don't want a running back from a bad team because they often have bad offensive lines, don't get a lot of carries when you're down two scores.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Jadarian Price is a running back on a great team.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: The Super Bowl defending Seattle Seahawks.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: He slots in for Kenneth Walker.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's gonna be a drop-off at all.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: Jadarian Price was overshadowed at Notre Dame by Jeremiah Love, but he was still a first-round pick.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: That kind of shows how good he was.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: He's excellent.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: I know you as a Notre Dame guy completely understand how good he is.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: I think with how bad Charbonnet is and the fact that he's hurt, Price is gonna be lovely this year.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: I don't agree with you that Charbonnet is bad, but he he definitely is hurt.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: No, I I I totally agree.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: And actually, before you I saw that you had put him on here, I was gonna use him as one of mine.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Um, I I love Jadarian Price this year, and unsurprisingly, we feel the same way about a Notre Dame guy.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we feel the exact same.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: Basically, about all the guys that we just went over.
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: We draft together in like four days' time, so that'll be a ton of fun as usual.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: Let's transition calls to the college ranks.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Week one's here.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: Uh week zero is nice.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: We talked about it a little bit, but week one's where it really starts.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: Before we get into week one specific things, let's talk season-long futures.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: I know you're a man who likes to dabble in the futures market, as am I from time to time.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: This is that time.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: I would love for you to take me through where your head's at.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: I thought you'd never ask.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: So I'll just I'll just throw one out, one out at you.
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: Possibly rattle them.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Rattle them.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Rattle them.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll stop you when I want to.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: Well, well, here we go then.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: First up, maybe my favorite of the season.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: Kansas State over seven and a half wins on the regular season.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: I just I just can't quit these guys, Sean.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: You know better than anybody.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: I I've got wildcat fever and uh it's never going away.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: They hired former K-State great Colin Klein away from Texas AM.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: I think he he can do Avery Johnson a proper coaching job.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Avery Johnson's had some issues, don't get me wrong, but with what Colin Klein did for Marcel Reid at AM last year, I love it.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: But truly, at the end of the day, this is more of a schedule bet than a team bet.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, their schedule is so, so easy.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: They have a cakewalk through the Big 12.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: I believe that they don't play Texas Tech or BYU, or maybe they play one of them.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: But yeah, if you just need to get me to eight, I'm all in on that.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: Of course I'm right there with you on this.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: Because of you, I've become just The blind, I'm gonna follow Kansas State win totals every year.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: I do also need to remind the listeners, as you can tell from us talking about this, we don't know our ass from our elbow.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: We're just out here having fun.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: Do not follow these picks if you're looking to win money.
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: But listen to the anything that I'm about to say.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: That is, I'll give you that for free.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: In fact, actually, yeah, you bet against me.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Same goes for me, especially in college.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: I can't pick my nose in college football.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: You'd be significantly more profitable fading each and every one of these.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: What's next?
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Moving right along, Syracuse, over four and a half wins.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Boy, is this one gross.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: You can just kind of smell it from a mile away.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: But I am a tried and true Fran Brown guy.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: No, through and through.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: He had he apparently he had to settle with for starting a lacrosse player at quarterback last year, which I kind of kind of missed miss my desk on the lacrosse player aspect of it, but that's what I'm hearing.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, he's got Steve Angelli coming in this year, and compared to what he was working with last year, he's gonna feel like Tom Brady.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: It's a weak ACC this year.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: I'm not really scared of too many teams that they are going up against, and really they just gotta go get us five.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: I'm not asking you to go bowling even.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: I don't need you to make a bowl, just get five.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: You talk yourself into anybody winning five.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that'll give me a little a little ACC uh bottom feeder to watch there, just hope to get five.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: A team that I love this year, but I'm scared of their win total, so I'm not gonna take it.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna give it out.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: I think their win total is at uh eight and a half, but Oklahoma State is a team I'm very, very interested in watching.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: They have new head coach Eric Morris coming over from North Texas, bringing quarterback Drew Mestimaker along with him.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: North Texas had an absolute electric offense last year.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: They were they were racking up points and yards.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: The offense is going to be total fireworks where the question come question mark comes in, of course, is on the defensive side.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: Um, so you can go ahead and play those each week, those point totals on the on Oklahoma State.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, they're I'm just very interested in seeing how they might look in year one.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: They were pitiful, they didn't win a game in the Big 12 last year.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: I was happy to learn that Mike Gundy's no longer the coach.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: I because Oklahoma State, they used to be that program where like you just said, gunsling and offense.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: You could just count there was gonna be a shootout when the Cowboys were involved.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: But the last several years under Gundy have been just dreadful.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: They've been sad.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: I'm happy to have them back on our radar.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Quickly, I want to shout out an under that I have.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: Sacramento State under four and a half.
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: They moved up from the FCS ranks last season and and before that, they moved up and they are joining the Mac, the Mid-American Conference, all the way out in Sacramento, California.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: So a little bit controversial.
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: They managed to uh offer to pay the expenses for all the other Mac schools to travel out west to go and face them.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: The whole situation, the entire thing just reeks of absolute desperation.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: They were just dying to get up to FPS.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: They're not ready for it, they're in over their heads.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: You I forgot to mention off the top, you actually can't bet this anymore because they did play week zero and they are already 0-1.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: But that's just a team to keep your eyes on.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: They might be getting steamrolled week in and week out.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna hop in and go through my win totals, and then we will both go through any postseason plays that we have.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: I have just a few, and again, I'm far from a college expert.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: I when I see college teams, I think traditionally what I know about that institution.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: So, for example, my first pick is App State five and a half wins.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: I grew up in a world where App State win more than five and a half games.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: That's just how I see it.
- 48:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: They that's a culture of winning down there in Boone.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: And when you think fall, when you think foliage, you think those mountains in Boone, North Carolina starting to turn, give me App State over five and a half.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: Seems like a cakewalk.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: Next up, we're taking it down to the swamp over seven and a half for the Florida Gators.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: Reason why?
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: John Sumerall.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: Blind faith in John Sumerall.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: He could coach Troy in war.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: It doesn't matter.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: He coached, he coached to Troy one, coach at Tulane one.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: He's gonna go to Florida and win.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: Seven and a half a lot in the FC.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: He'll take his and beat yours, and then he'll take yours and beat his.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: That's a problem coach on there.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: That's exactly right.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: I know you're a Sumerall guy as well.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: So I think we could we could be in lockstep here with Florida over seven and a half.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: Next is Minnesota over six and a half.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of bullish on this Minnesota group.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'm just playing the hits and rooting for the teams I like.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: But I think Drake Lindsay's a good quarterback.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: He totally first year starting last year.
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: I think he's gonna break out this year and become a guy that's on a lot more people's radars.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: I think their schedule in the Big Ten could be worse.
- 49:16SPEAKER_02: It's not the worst one I've ever seen, which is good.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: Six and a half is not too bad given that PJ Fleck usually makes a bowl game, usually wins seven or eight games.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: And I just think that Darius Taylor finally gets a healthy year at running back, and they're actually like kind of an exciting offense, which is rare to say about a Minnesota club.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Count me in.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: Next on the list of teams that I'm taking the over on, and I also happen to root for, it is the Temple Owls.
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: And this one's another blind faith on the head coach, Casey Keeler.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: Casey Keeler combined with the Powder Puff schedule.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: I'm all in on the Owls Collins.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: Over five and a half bowl game for Temple.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: If there's a guy to do it, it's this Casey Keeler cat.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: I couldn't possibly love this anymore.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: You know I'm a Casey man.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: So count me in.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: Casey, it was it, he's just been a stark contrast from the previous coaching regime in the most like in the best possible way.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: So it's been a breath of fresh air on North Broad.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about postseason.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: I have one pick to make the playoff.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: I think you might as well.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: I have Oklahoma to make the college football playoff plus 185.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Give me your thoughts on that.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: I I mean that uh that's touted in many circles as the best defense in in college football.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: So uh that's something that you can expect out of Venables.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: He did it last year and he'll do it this year.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: If the offense can just manage to be good enough, they they should certainly find themselves in the in the race at least.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: Uh John Matthews looking absolutely enormous, which he's a better runner than he is a passer anyway.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: So that is probably only a good thing.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he looks like Tarzan plays like Jane a little bit.
- 50:57SPEAKER_02: I do, I do think if we could just get, like you said, just enough from the offense.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: I trust Venables to have that defense firing.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think we'll get just enough from Mathir.
- 51:09SPEAKER_02: I I think he is dynamic enough when he's healthy and playing.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: It's just can you keep him upright all year?
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: But with with biceps like that, you have to think he reduced his chance of getting hurt.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: That at least that's what we'll tell ourselves, anyway.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm gonna say.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: What about you?
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: I have two to make the college football playoff that kind of contradict each other, but they're both group of six guys, so that's the only way that they're gonna make it.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: They actually play each other, they're on each other's schedule this year, and I think essentially whoever wins the matchup between the two of them has a pretty good shot.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: So that is North Dakota State.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: They are another riser up from the the FC.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Their odds are very inflated, or I guess, I guess it'd be deflated, uh, if you will, because they're they're gonna be a darling all year.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: Everybody's gonna want to root for North Dakota State to to make the playoff if they have the record to do so.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: The committee loves a storyline, they're gonna go ahead and put them in if they're eligible.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you that for free.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: They're at plus 750 to make the playoff.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, the group of the group of six uh favorite, I believe, as of right now, is Boise, but I like North Dakota State over Boise.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: And the other team that I'm taking is New Mexico with Jason Eck at at the helm.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: His son Jackson Lick is uh a linebacker on the team as well.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: Uh those two teams play each other.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: Um, they're gonna be in a Mountain West battle all season.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: I think that there's a good chance that whoever wins the matchup between those two uh could make the college football playoff and be Mountain West champions.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: So the group of six is wide, wide open this year.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: So that'll be very interesting to watch.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: Now, given the fact that I'm betting those two teams, you could should put your house on Boise State to make the playoff.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: But that's just that's just where I like my uh cards to be.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: I love that you went group of six heavy there because we're group of six guys.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: That's you know what I mean.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: That's the bread and butter, especially the old Mountain West.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: That was my conference.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: I hate to see what it's turned into.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: It's devastating.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: I looked at who was in the Mountain West this year, and it's just not my Mountain West, but I guess I'm just now a Pac-12 guy because that's where a lot of those teams went.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Pretty much, yeah.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: So I'm pretty much a Pac-12 guy now.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about Heisman.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you have anybody.
- 53:27SPEAKER_02: I think my actual pick, and you might agree with this, my actual pick would be CJ Carr.
- 53:31SPEAKER_02: It's just you're not getting any value by betting him.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: So the two picks I would give for Heisman, not exactly great value, but I could see pretty easy routes to these guys winning it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: Julian Saiyan, 13-1.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's too bad.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: It's usually a quarterback award over a receiver.
- 53:47SPEAKER_02: So you could point to Jeremiah Smith maybe winning the trophy over him, but usually it does go to the quarterback.
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: Also, Arch Manning along similar lines, he's plus 850.
- 53:58SPEAKER_02: I just think both those teams are going to be really good.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: And maybe the winner of that game in week two has the upper hand early on who wins the Heisman.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: So those would be the two aside from Carr, I'd shout out.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and Arch Manning, if you follow the uh, if you put your tinfoil hat and follow the story storyline aspect of it, wouldn't they love to give that award to a Manning?
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: I I like like you said, I like CJ Carr probably, but I also really like Dante Moore from from Oregon quarterback.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: He is plus 1100.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: I think he's he's got a uh absolute puncher's chance at it.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean he's the he's the third favorite that I'm looking at right now, so of course he has a chance.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: But that if I had to make two picks, I would go carr and more on the Heisman.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: And I'll start us off with our national title picks.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Actually, you know what?
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: Why don't I just why don't I start us off?
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Because I just said I just said Carr and Moore are my Heisman picks, and my national title picks are gonna follow suit and be Oregon and Notre Dame.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: So I love it.
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: Oregon, Oregon plus 750 is interesting.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: I I don't yeah, I don't hate that.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: I am with you on Notre Dame.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: That was my first pick I wrote down.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: Now these are odds-based, obviously.
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: I think if we had a gun to our head, maybe we wouldn't pick Notre Dame to actually win the title.
- 55:10SPEAKER_02: But plus 650 for the Irish, they're going to be in the playoff.
- 55:14SPEAKER_02: And that's something that you can't say about a lot of these teams with absolute certainty.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: So I think you can just say with Notre Dame, they're gonna make the playoff.
- 55:22SPEAKER_02: Even if they lose maybe two games on that schedule, they might still make it.
- 55:26SPEAKER_02: And that schedule is full of cupcakes.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: And I said earlier, Oklahoma might have the best defense in in the country, and Notre Dame is probably their their top competitor for the best defense in the country.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: They absolutely have the best defensive player in the country and Leonard Moore, uh quarterback, and he's sick.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, so then when you factor in on offense, CJ Carr in the Heisman race, that's recipe for a pretty good season.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: And then the other team I have in the title race is Texas, which it's gonna seem weird that my two picks to win a national title are Notre Dame and Texas, two teams that have been around the picture these last few years have had resurgences of sort, but have never gotten over that final obstacle.
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: I think this might be the year we see one of them do it, and I think the stories in college football would be so much better if that was the case.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: It's like the 90s all over again, baby.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: Notre Dame and Texas.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know if Texas is any good in the 90s now that I say that.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: I think they had to be.
- 56:24SPEAKER_02: That was when they were there.
- 56:26SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: That's when Friday Night Lights was Friday Night Lights was thought of.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: So I know high school ball was good then.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: So Collins, let's move on to just some games to watch this weekend.
- 56:36SPEAKER_02: We don't need to go into a bunch of them.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna go into all of the ones we maybe had prepared.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: But what are a couple games you're looking forward to this weekend?
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, there's the this slate is not incredible.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: There's not uh too many marquee matchups.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: The the biggest of them all is probably LSU and Clemson.
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: That that will be certainly scenes uh with Lane Kiffin and Dabo, probably two polar opposite coaches uh from each other.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: But I had a I had a few written down.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: Um I'm interested to see uh East Carolina and Alabama, mostly because I'm I'm interested to see what Alabama looks like.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: Sean, you and Jake kind of hit the nail on the head last week when you were talking about Kaelin De Boer and what this season very well could mean to him.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: He's putting his trust in the in the uh freshman Keelan Russell, and I'm just very interested to see how he looks.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, so that that will be one that I want to get my eyes on.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, Alabama's like four touchdown favorites in that one anyway, so it's not really gonna be much of a game, but just to see how it goes.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: I mentioned Boise State, they are at Oregon at 3:30 on Saturday, so that will be very interesting.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: They uh Boise, of course, like I said, has uh college football playoff hopes, and Oregon has national championship hopes.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: So that that will be interesting.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: And um, Oregon is the only team really of the national title contenders that play an actual, like formidable opponent in some ways.
- 58:04SPEAKER_00: And then on Monday night, I'm just really, really interested to check out the train wreck that is Florida State University.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: They're hosting SMU.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: I'm not huge on SMU.
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: We we as a podcast, I think we've officially said we're out on Kevin Jennings, but um I were that that will certainly be an interesting standalone spot on Monday night.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: It's just an opportunity for Florida State to just totally embarrass themselves.
- 58:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I do think we'll get to a segment we have later in the show that's gonna be a season-long pick segment, and I'm already regretting one of mine that has to do with that game.
- 58:41SPEAKER_02: So more to come there.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: The only other ones I would add, Collins, I think you named the main few that I care about as well.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: I think the Friday night game between Fresno State and USC is a little bit interesting.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: It's a 21-point spread.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: But I think Fresno State's a respectable ball club, and USC looked good in week zero.
- 58:59SPEAKER_02: They did play and get some experience under the belt.
- 59:00SPEAKER_02: They didn't look unbeatable, so I'm a little bit interested in that one on Friday night.
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: On Saturday, Baylor and Auburn.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: This is a fun one.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: We've got Byron Brown, DJ Lagway, quarterback battle here, and kind of a must-win situation this year for Dave Aranda at Baylor.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: So we'll see what they look like.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: Auburn, first year coach, Alex Golesh, the South Florida.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: I I think we we're both fans of him.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: I'm very interested to see how they look with under him for sure.
- 59:27SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: So I think that game will be interesting Saturday.
- 59:29SPEAKER_02: And then also on Sunday night, we have the Notre Dame game Sunday night against Wisconsin at Lambeau, which will be cool.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: That's at 7:30.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: Also at 730 is Louisville miss.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: And I think this is a good game.
- 59:42SPEAKER_02: Top 25 matchup between both.
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: I've I yeah, I actually totally forgot about that when I said LSU Clemson was like sort of the only premier matchup.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: This is definitely a good game.
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: Two very good teams.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: I do think it has a little less pop and curb appeal than yours does.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: The LSU Clemson, just the lane effect and Gabo, those two that kind of writes itself.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: But this game, in terms of quality on the field, will be good as well.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: I kind of hit both schools equally, so that's a tough one for me.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: I think I have to root for Ole Miss by default.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: Turned out Chambliss is a Heisman candidate that we probably should have mentioned as well.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: True.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he yeah.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: So that'll be a lot of fun to watch.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_02: Well, you've just mentioned it.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: We that's a good transition.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: We have two final segments cooked up.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_02: The first one up is a draft.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: We love a draft here.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: Boy, do it.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: And we're we're drafting quarterbacks for this college season.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_02: So basically, Collins put together a little fantasy competition between just the two of us, head to head.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: We're each going to draft eight quarterbacks, and the scoring system is simple.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_02: It's just total fantasy points throughout the season.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_02: Is that correct?
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, and Sean, yes, that is correct.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: It's it's normal fantasy scoring, uh, four points for a passing touchdown, you know, yards and all that good stuff.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: And Sean, really the genesis of this was like this is the year of the college football quarterback.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_00: We could go, we could go 20 picks deep, and uh, and there would still be names of guys that are gonna be very interesting to watch.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_00: It for a few years now, 2027 um draft NFL draft has been touted as like the ultimate go get a quarterback type of thing.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: So, what would we be doing if we're not investing and sinking our teeth fully and wholly into these uh quarterbacks and and making a game out of it?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: So that's a perfect way to preface it.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_00: We so without further ado, uh this is your program, and I'll happily give you first pick.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I don't think that we necessarily need to snake it.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: We could just go pick by pick here.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: No, we have to.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna take first every round.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: We'll snake it.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_02: But I will say we're already an hour in.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: We don't need to go in the long.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: We're just gonna we're just gonna rip off games here.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: So I will have first pick, of course.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: Thank you for giving it to me.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_02: What what a gracious guess.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: Now, hold on.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: I will I will say there's one one or two or maybe three guys that have already they already have a game under their belt.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: So I think if you if you take those guys, you get the game that you get the stats that they already have.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: You do get it because it all is gonna come out in the wash.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_00: Everybody's gonna play 12 games, so to my knowledge, anyway.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, you're you're at least directionally correct.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: I think there's a couple schools that might only have 11 on the schedule, but not the ones we'll be drafting.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: So yeah, okay.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_02: And I'm glad because there's definitely a guy that's gonna be picked that has already played, maybe a couple, so there's there's one guy who has to be picked that has played already, and then if you want to get deep with it, then yeah.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: So first up, I'm just gonna go simple CJ Carr.
- 1:02:43unknown: Okay.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: Fighting Irish.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: So then I get two.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: You get two.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm gonna take Dante Moore, and I'm also going to take uh I'll take Trinidad Chambliss.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_02: And this is fantasy scoring, so the running component does it does matter.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: That's a nice little pick there.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna stick the stick to the script and take my two national title teams quarterbacks.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_02: So I'll go CJ Carr and then Arch Manning.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: Love it.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: And you get one more, right?
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: And I get one more, and I will take my Heisman pick, Julian Saiyan.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: Figured you would.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: I am going to go with I'll take the the the guy we hadn't mentioned who has already played, and I'll take his his game against I believe it was San Jose State over the this past weekend, and I'll take Jaden Miyava from USC, and then I'm also going to go with I'll take Darien Mensah from Miami.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, good pick.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_02: Yep, we're moving right down my big board, which makes me feel better.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: I will take Collins.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Drew Mestermaker that we mentioned just a minute ago.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: I was hoping to get him.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_02: It's a good pick.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_02: He was up there statistically last season at North Texas, how you said, and I'm hoping he has some better weapons this year at Oklahoma State.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: I he was I was considering him just now, yeah.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: And then I will here here we go.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna call him JKS.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_02: Jerome Casagapulatelli.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: How about that for pronunciation?
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: First crack.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_02: I think he nailed it.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: That's that is that I think I might have.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: But I love I love a West Coast quarterback.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: Cal.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_02: Interesting game for them this first week, too, against UCLA.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: That's a good one to watch.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: So I'm I'm bullish on this kid.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: I heard a lot of good things last year.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_02: Admittedly, didn't see too much of him myself, but by all accounts, he seems like an up-and-comer.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: I I totally agree.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: I am going to take Lenore Sellers from South Carolina.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: And I will also go with hmm.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna shape, I'm gonna take Damon Williams out of Washington.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: The hostage.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_02: I had him high on my board.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_02: I was gonna put say the hostage pick.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think he was forced to stay at Washington, but I think he's a baller.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: So that's good.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: That's a good pick.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go off the beating path here.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_02: And I might be basing it off of this week zero performance, but I'm gonna go Bo Prabullah.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: Good for you.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_00: I was wondering, I was wondering if that was gonna be the case.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_01: He might run all around.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: He might run all around this year.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_00: It's hard to tell if he was good or if NC State just sucks.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_02: I think it might be bad.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_02: I think it might be bad.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_02: That could be that we could look back at that one as the worst pick ever.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_02: And then I will take just for the box office effect.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take Sam Levitt.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I that's I I knew you were gonna do that.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: That's who I I had him queued up.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: Lane Kiffin as a quarterback coach.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's gonna put up numbers.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_00: Man, now I don't know.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_00: So I need to round it out with my last two.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with Josh Hoover Indiana.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_02: Good pick.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: And then and then And I'm gonna go with it's it's in his first name.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: Gunner.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: Gunner Stockton.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: That's my He's rounding it out for me.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: That's who I was gonna take.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: Gunslinger Stockton.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: Gunner Stockton.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: Great name.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: Now I'm between a couple.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_02: Since I'm in on the team, I'm just gonna take John Mateir.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: I'm in on the team.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_02: I don't know how good he actually is, but I think Oklahoma will be good.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_02: So all right, there we have it.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: We'll monitor that.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: We'll update you guys throughout the season.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_02: That'll be fun.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_02: And it was painless, quick and painless.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: Nice and easy.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_00: That'll be a fun thing to just, you know, see who's got it's similar to your to your draft over on Friends on Football, which I'm I'm on the edge of my seat every episode listening in to hear who to hear how badly Brandon's beating you in that.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_00: So oh my god.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_00: Just a pile on effect as the host.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_02: I will take the high road.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: Let's move to now.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: You cooked up a great segment there.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_02: I've cooked this one up.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_02: I gotta do some background information for the listener.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_02: It is called Drop the Mics.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_02: So I will be attempting to drop both Michael Collins and Mike Blum this season.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: These guys both will be on basically every week throughout the football season.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: It sometimes will be both of them, it sometimes will be one of them.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_02: Either way, there's going to be a mic with me throughout the NFL and college seasons.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_02: What we're going to do is a picks competition.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_02: There's limited rules.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: You're able to make as few or as many picks as you want each week.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: And my goal is to beat both of the Michaels.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: What makes it a little bit fun and entertaining for the listener is that the Michaels have to come up with their picks together.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_02: And if you don't know these guys, one of them is a very frugal, patient spender.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_02: That's Mike Blum.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: Mike Blum, without him, I think he might have two or three conservative picks each week.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_02: My guy here, Michael Collins, is the complete opposite.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: He's a gunslinger, gunslinger Collins.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_02: He likes to fire from the hip.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: He likes having action.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_02: This week, the first week of this competition, is interesting because Collins is the one out in the episode.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_02: Basically a free reign.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_02: There's no tightening of the purse strings.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_02: Blum's not here watching over his shoulder.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_02: So he has run of the roost.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_02: We'll see what he does, but basically we'll just go back and forth listing our picks for the week, and then we'll keep records throughout the year to see who does a better job.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_02: What do you think?
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_00: And I am ecstatic that I get to set the tone for this.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_00: And so when I go undefeated, then there's nothing Blum can say to me about it.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_02: That's also true.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_02: And also for the listeners, you are much more of a college football guy than Michael Blum is.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_02: So Michael Blum will come with some NFL expertise.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_02: I think you will be providing most of the college plays throughout the year.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_02: I have one more play than you prepared, so I'll start things off.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_02: My first pick, I mentioned the game.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_02: I have Fresno State plus 21 and a half.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_02: I think I'm a little bit concerned that USC played week zero and they're a little bit ahead preparation-wise, but Fresno State, that's a respectable, well-coached bunch.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_02: Too many points.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_02: Give me the Bulldogs.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take University of Florida against Florida Atlantic, and I'm gonna go with the over 59 and a half.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_00: FAU I have pegged as uh high octane offense, hopefully at least.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_00: And uh not a great defense.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_00: So and we already talked about some wrong.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we did.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_02: He'll put points on the board for you.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_02: I my second pick, this is a system play, Collins.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_02: If you know me, you know I love a certain certain team in a certain setting, and that is Hawaii as an underdog on island.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_02: Hawaii plus three and a half on island in Honolulu.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_02: That's gonna go on the board for me every every time.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: I was backing Hawaii last week in Palo Alto.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: They fumbled the ball with a minute left and they got scoop and scored for a for a bad beat.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_00: I would love to join you on that, but I simply can't.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm burned, I'm scarred.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go to Fort Collins, Colorado.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: I believe that this is a home game for them anyway.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_00: I hope so.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_00: It is, it is and tie take Colorado State minus the three points.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_02: Well, we've got to fight instantly because my next pick is Wyoming plus the three.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: So I love to see it.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_02: Go.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_02: I didn't even notice that.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we've got we've got to fight immediately.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: You know I'm a Colorado State fan.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_02: I I've always backed the Aggies.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: They the Rams, I guess they are.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_02: They're an agricultural school.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_02: They go by both.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_02: But the they've just banged me the last three years.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_02: Every time I pick them, they're I'm on the wrong side of them.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_02: So I've pivoted.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_02: I'm going with the cowboys from Laramie.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_00: Great, great.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_00: We we talked about this sort of at length.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_00: Oklahoma State versus Tulsa.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the game over.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: 59 and a half.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, that'll be great for my boy Drew.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_02: Load him up, Drew.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go to this is a little strategy that I thought of, and it's just that coach isn't there anymore.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_02: And John Sumrol's not in Tulane anymore.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_02: So give me Duke minus seven and a half.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_02: I think Manny Diaz has found his forever home as a Duke Blue Devil.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_00: And that is truly a great strategy, honestly.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_00: I am going to take Kent State and South Carolina game over 53 and a half.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_00: If you're sensing a theme, I'm all over these overs in week one.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_00: It's great for my guy Lenores.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_00: It is great for your guy Lenores, yeah.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take one that's great for my boy Arch.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take Texas minus 29 and a half.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: Want to know why?
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_02: I said, you know what, Texas is a huge team playing Texas State, they're not even 30-point favorites.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_02: If this number was 30 and a half, I'm not gonna put it down.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: But since it was 29, it's like when it's like when something's listed with 999 instead of 10.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_02: I'm much more likely to buy it.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_02: It's nine bucks, not 10.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that's that's why I took tech.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_02: That's what you're getting here, folks.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_02: Expertise.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_00: I am taking Troy minus 16 and a half at home against Sam Houston State.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_00: That coach isn't there anymore.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_00: KC Keeler, Sam Houston State, maybe one of the worst teams in the FPS.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_02: Love the strategy, see?
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_02: Maybe not.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_00: Who's to say?
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_02: This could be the podcast's move until it goes over two this weekend, and then we'll we'll go back to the drawing board just for you guys.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: Hey, listen, we both have a pick in this game.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna lead it off with I'm gonna take Cal plus one and a half.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna back my guy, JKS.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: Or set, of course, I know his name, Jeron, he uh, Sagapulitelli.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_02: I think they are a dangerous team, a frisky team, the Cal Gold Embarrass.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_02: So give me, give me Cal getting a point and a half.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_00: This is a quarterback name game, Sagapulatele and Iamaliava.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_00: Um we nailed them too.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_00: We're fluent.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_02: That's on.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the over in this game to a uh surprise of absolutely nobody.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_00: UCLA Cal over 53 and a half.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna keep it rapid fire here.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: Just I don't like the guy, and that's Bill O'Brien, is coaching Boston College.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: Cincinnati's only given up seven and a half at Nippert Stadium.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_02: Give me the Bearcats minus seven and a half.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_00: I am going to surprise nobody yet again.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_00: Notre Dame minus 20 and a half against Wisconsin.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_00: I think Luke Fickle is a dead man walking in Madison.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: This was one of those that I saw you put down, and I wish I hop, I wish I had it as well.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_02: I I love this pick.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_02: I just don't think Wisconsin's any good.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_02: I think it's only because they're named Wisconsin that this spread isn't more.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_00: The quarterback from Old Dominion, I forget his name.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_00: I I don't dislike him at all, but I want to say it's Edwards or something.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_02: Uh it's something starts with a C.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_02: Who's to say?
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_02: We're not a Facts Podcast.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're not a facts podcast.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_02: My second to last pick, the penultimate.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_02: This one we talked about a little bit.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_02: Kaelin De Boring, what's he have in store this year?
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_02: Give me the Crimson Tide, laying the 27 and a half.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_02: I think he beats up on the cupcakes.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_02: And I'm not to say ECU's necessarily, they're not dead as a doorknob, but they are one of the easiest teams on Bama's schedule.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_02: I think he'll pound them before having a little bit of difficulty in the SEC.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_00: My final pick, I'm taking it to Monday night.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_00: We talked about the game already, and I'm looking forward to uh hopefully cashing this one out while laughing at those losers from Tallahassee, and this is SMU minus three.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: I've again I've sworn off Kevin Jennings, but I'm nothing if not a trash eater.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_00: So here we go.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: Back to it.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_02: I am on the opposite side.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_02: I said to myself, everybody is going to be taking SMU.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, another fight.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_02: Everybody's gonna be taking SMU because Florida State looked bad in week zero.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_02: And I don't think Florida State are good, and I don't think Mike Norvell's good, but I do think this is a good spot for them.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take them plus the three points.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_02: I had it as three and a half, but we'll keep the lines consistent.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: So we'll go three.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_02: That's an all of branch.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_02: I hope Mike Blum's listening to that first olive branch that's been extended.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_02: So there we go.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_00: Well, I thought you switched that uh Wyoming one to from two and a half to three as well.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_02: So you already said it was three, so I'll take the half three half if I could get it.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_02: Take a penny, leave a penny.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_02: So that's right.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_02: I we need to be consistent across the board.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_02: I think that's it for drop the mic this week.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_02: We will report back with how this went.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_02: It's important to get off to a good start.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_02: You don't want to see any oh furs, certainly.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_02: You don't want to see any one furs.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_02: Let's get some wins on the board.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and if if Mike Blum, if you're listening to this, I would I if I fully understood what the uh competition entailed, I would have reached out to you for a sign-off or confirmation console.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, however you want to say.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, but sorry about it.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_02: No, I love it.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_02: That's what I think that's what's gonna make this fun.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_02: It's it's kind of a relationship where you guys could sometimes speak in depth, sometimes not speak at all, and just play it by ear.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_02: So that's all we have from an actual show standpoint.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_02: As we sign off your collins, I just want to get your thoughts.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_02: We're both fans of the Surviving Barstool series.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_02: Love when they put these out.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_02: We we both watch, we we text back and forth our thoughts on the episodes.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_02: It's been a good season, I'd say, so far.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_02: Surviving Barstool.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_02: There will be spoilers, listeners, if you guys are not caught up.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_02: I want to know what you think.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_02: Is it the best season we've seen?
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_02: And who are you rooting for?
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_02: Who do you want to win?
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_02: That sort of thing.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_00: Nah, it's certainly not the best season.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_00: I have been watching.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_00: I'm also a huge fan of the regular Survivor franchise on CBS as well.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm a little bit versed in the the game and gameplay as a whole, and it feels like these at this stage in the game, at least, these guys are not even really trying to make moves at all.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_00: Early on, like there were a couple big moves to get like Nick Tiranei out.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_00: I think that was the kind of the first vote or one of the very early ones, and that was kind of awesome.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_00: Like, that was a uh a sick move that they were able to pull off after that.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_00: It feels like everybody's got their close-knit alliance and they're they're not really breaking free of it.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_00: There haven't there, there's a couple guys with idols in their pockets just kind of chilling there.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_00: They don't want to use them.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_00: It feels like they don't want to upset anybody, and then there's just like a lot of talk about you know, they don't want to upset their friends.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of money on the line, so understandable in that aspect, but I don't know.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_00: It just hasn't it hasn't scratched the itch as much as it did in previous seasons for me.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_02: No, I completely agree.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_02: I enjoy having it, I think it's been like fine good.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_02: It's just like you said, there's three idols in play, I think, still, and there's like five people left.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_02: There hasn't been the need to use an idol because everybody's been voting as a pack the whole time.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_02: And it basically broke out that like the five best friends from the New York office and Dana were just gonna ride each other until the final.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_02: And now here we are.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_02: We're hoping it gets entertaining, but there hasn't been any real backstabbing at all yet.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, and that's the thing.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_00: Like, there's there's the final three is gonna be like, Well, you guys didn't you guys barely even played, you just voted together this whole time, and nobody actually made it made a move.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_00: And each one of them has an idol in their pocket, and they can go to the people on the bottom and say, Hey, let's let's get my buddy out, but they don't want to cross their friends.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_00: I think at this point I'm probably rooting for Roan Roan's still around, right?
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he's played the best game so far.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_02: So I think he would have my vote for sure.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Roan is uh I'm interested in him and uh and I guess Brandon Walker by proxy as well.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_02: I was interested in Tommy Smokes because I thought he was lulling them all to sleep on on purpose.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_02: I thought he was playing this game where he had a big target because he was really good at it, and he was just kind of making alliances and getting through not being the biggest name on the kill list.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_02: And then it turns out no, he was just hesitating in an indecisive baby who didn't want to vote his friends out.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that really stung because he went from me thinking, oh, he's a really good player to no, he's just he's not.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_00: He's sort of a phony at this point in my eyes.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_00: He had up he had the the best possible opportunity to get rid of Dana and blindside him while he was holding an immunity idol and and squandered it.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's that's been the disappointing aspect of it.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_00: But I still I still will will tune in to find out who wins.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_00: There's no doubt.
