Starting this Friday, millions of Canadians on low or modest incomes will get a 25% boost to their GST/HST credit — now called the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit — to help cover rising everyday costs, especially food. The government is pouring in $11.7 billion over six years to fund this five-year program, with the final payment of the year hitting bank accounts on October 5th.
