- 0:00Aloha. Thursday morning. Winds are picking up today and staying breezy through the weekend. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:26Trade winds are noticeably stronger than yesterday—steady from the east-northeast. Showers will stick to windward slopes and higher elevations; leeward areas like Kona stay mostly dry. Rain amounts are light, less than a quarter inch for most places. Bring a light jacket if you're heading out—the breeze is real.
- 1:41Surf is small across most of the islands today. Oʻahu's south shore is 3.3 feet, the north shore 3.7 feet—both comfortable for swimmers. Kauaʻi's running a moderate 4.3 feet at Hanalei, so watch for shore break and rip currents there. A moderate south swell arrives Sunday and builds into next week.
- 1:56Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is at an advisory level. Several trails are closed—Kīpukapuaulu is down due to hazardous trees, and there's lava tube bridge work ongoing. Watch for volcanic ash if you're visiting the park. Check ahead on what's accessible before you go.
- 2:10Kīlauea Episode 51 ended yesterday after 8.3 hours of lava fountaining that peaked near 950 feet. Reinflation has begun, so another episode is likely soon. If you're timing a Big Island trip around volcanic activity, the article we posted breaks down what's happening at the summit right now.
- 2:24Winds ease slightly early next week, and a moderate south swell arrives Sunday, building into next week and bringing near-normal to slightly above-normal surf.
- 2:32Full details are on the site. Catch you tomorrow.
