Latest / Clydesdale Media Podcast / Lunch with the Clydesdale - Dave Castro Goes Live and Takes Q&A
Transcript
- 0:02Did Dave Castro accidentally fall into the
- 0:05coolest podcast in the CrossFit space?
- 0:09He may just have.
- 0:10Let's talk about it next.
- 0:23I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:25I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:26I always take what I want and I
- 0:28always give it one hundred.
- 0:29Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:31Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:32I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:34Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:35Now wake up!
- 0:37It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:39Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:41friend to me.
- 0:43What is going on everybody?
- 0:44Welcome to Lunchtime.
- 0:46It's lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:49Good to see you all today.
- 0:50What's up, Jody?
- 0:51Corey?
- 0:52Good to see you in the house.
- 0:53Sean in Oregon.
- 0:56Yeah.
- 0:57Love the new music.
- 0:58Yeah, I just switched that over, gosh,
- 1:00about a week ago.
- 1:02What's up, Meredith?
- 1:05Terry?
- 1:07Yeah.
- 1:09What's up, Jeff Baco?
- 1:13So, yeah.
- 1:15So,
- 1:15I don't have a ton of time today.
- 1:17I have a one o'clock meeting.
- 1:19that I have to get to.
- 1:21So we're going to hop right into things
- 1:23today.
- 1:24Yesterday,
- 1:25I tuned into the Dave Castro channel on
- 1:29YouTube,
- 1:30and it was advertised as part of the
- 1:32affiliate series that he's doing with
- 1:35Nicole Christensen.
- 1:40um and the and they do an affiliate
- 1:43thing where they interview an affiliate
- 1:45owner talk about what they do and
- 1:48yesterday the affiliate didn't show but i
- 1:52think what happened was actually pretty
- 1:54damn cool i think what happened is dave
- 1:58may have found a really cool concept for
- 2:01a podcast accidentally so the podcast
- 2:05opens up yesterday
- 2:07with Nicole Christensen struggling after
- 2:10doing a workout at her affiliate that
- 2:13afternoon.
- 2:14Her voice was gone.
- 2:16She said that it was the first time
- 2:18she nearly puked in like six years.
- 2:22And she tells Dave what the workout is.
- 2:25And it was her talking about,
- 2:28it was interval work.
- 2:30You, you do.
- 2:33Twenty five meter sled push and then an
- 2:36echo bike of ten or fourteen calories.
- 2:39Women, men.
- 2:41And then you rest for like four to
- 2:42five minutes because it doesn't take that
- 2:44long to do that.
- 2:46And you do it again.
- 2:47And it's four rounds.
- 2:50And Dave was like, wow, like all that.
- 2:53rest and it still like knocked you out
- 2:56and she said yeah like the whole the
- 3:00whole community was crushed there were
- 3:02dnfs that people couldn't get past round
- 3:04three the whole thing but and it was
- 3:06designed to be a sprint and it was
- 3:07written by misfit um affiliate
- 3:12So Dave starts kind of critiquing the
- 3:14workout and how he would change it.
- 3:16Nicole is very adamant about what she
- 3:18feels about it,
- 3:19and they start debating this workout.
- 3:23Well,
- 3:23because the affiliate didn't show up,
- 3:27They actually called the head coach of
- 3:30Misfit, brought him on,
- 3:32and it became this discussion of the
- 3:37programming.
- 3:39But I love the fact that Dave had
- 3:42his ideas and the other two were very
- 3:45honest.
- 3:46adamant about their position of that
- 3:49workout and what it brought to the
- 3:50community,
- 3:51what it brought to the affiliate,
- 3:53what the stimulus was trying to be.
- 3:55And they really defended it well.
- 3:58And I think it's actually created possibly
- 4:00a really cool podcast series of where you
- 4:05bring your workout to Dave.
- 4:06He gives his thoughts.
- 4:08You defend why you did it your way.
- 4:11And you have this discussion.
- 4:13And I don't generally get into programming
- 4:17talk.
- 4:18When we do programming stuff and like
- 4:20event programming,
- 4:22I really turn that over to like Jamie
- 4:24and Carolyn.
- 4:25And I just kind of mediate it because
- 4:28one, I no longer coach.
- 4:30I never was a programmer and I don't
- 4:33really understand all the aspects of
- 4:36programming,
- 4:36even though I have an L one and
- 4:38I have programmed a few classes over the
- 4:41years.
- 4:42but I really thought it was fascinating
- 4:44and it really sucked me in as to
- 4:46why he thought what he thought.
- 4:49And,
- 4:49and what's funny is he even talks about
- 4:51that.
- 4:52He has rules that you shouldn't break.
- 4:56And even with those rules, he said,
- 4:57and I know I've broken probably every
- 4:59single one of them.
- 5:01Um, and you know what I mean?
- 5:07I, I just,
- 5:08I thought it was really cool.
- 5:09I, Larry said that, uh,
- 5:11My favorite part was the could care less
- 5:14what Dave thought about their programming.
- 5:16They were polite, but at the same time,
- 5:17we like what we do.
- 5:19I liked how they defended why they do
- 5:21it.
- 5:24And what we actually learned is the
- 5:26original program wasn't even Echo Bike.
- 5:28It was SkiErg.
- 5:29And when Nicole said Echo Bike,
- 5:32the guy from Misfit was like, damn,
- 5:35that's even more rough.
- 5:37Like...
- 5:39like you even escalated it a little bit
- 5:41more.
- 5:47Uh, Austin also basically said these long,
- 5:50late workouts make you good at that,
- 5:52but forces no adaptation.
- 5:59So, yeah.
- 6:00Um,
- 6:02And he actually – the guy from Misfit,
- 6:05is that who was – it was his
- 6:06name, Austin.
- 6:08I don't remember because I have it queued
- 6:10up for something else.
- 6:11But he talked about how he has like
- 6:16three buckets of frequency,
- 6:19things that are –
- 6:22things that they sprinkle in periodically,
- 6:26things that they want to do somewhat
- 6:28often,
- 6:29and then things they want to put in
- 6:31every single week.
- 6:33And so he has like frequency buckets on
- 6:35top of
- 6:37everything else and balance.
- 6:39And Dave's biggest concern with sled push
- 6:41is he thinks it's a cheat to get
- 6:44away from doing higher skilled workouts in
- 6:48the affiliate.
- 6:49And he said,
- 6:50even though I know you guys aren't trying
- 6:51to do that,
- 6:54he said that's a fear when he sees
- 6:57sled push in a workout at the affiliate.
- 7:02So,
- 7:02and they go off into some other topics
- 7:04as well,
- 7:05but I really think like it could be
- 7:09a really cool concept for, um, a podcast.
- 7:13And I think at one point,
- 7:14even Nicole says, yeah,
- 7:16we could do this and call it like
- 7:17Dave shits on your programming.
- 7:20And then you talk it out and discuss
- 7:22it and, and stuff.
- 7:24So it was, um, it was really,
- 7:28really cool to, uh,
- 7:32It was really, really cool to watch,
- 7:34and I hope they do some more of
- 7:36this because it just accidentally happened
- 7:39when the affiliate wasn't there.
- 7:41They had to fill time.
- 7:46Frida, Echo Bike is insanely hard,
- 7:48and a sprint gave me shivers to hear
- 7:51it.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:55Mark Phillips,
- 7:55is this the affiliate interview one?
- 7:57I missed it.
- 7:58It was.
- 7:59Just know the affiliate never shows up.
- 8:04And so they talk about some other things.
- 8:06And the reason I really tuned in,
- 8:07because the affiliate interview,
- 8:10it's not something,
- 8:12as I'm trying to watch all the content
- 8:13in the space,
- 8:14it's not something I normally dive into,
- 8:17but he was going to do a ten-minute
- 8:18Q&A at the end.
- 8:20And I wanted to see what he had
- 8:21to say during that interview.
- 8:26So, Denise,
- 8:28more interesting because I think heavy
- 8:30sled pushes are a great addition to
- 8:32training.
- 8:33Yeah, Dave had alternatives.
- 8:35He thinks moving a heavy object over a
- 8:38distance is a good thing,
- 8:40but he thinks that some affiliates rely on
- 8:43it too much and then remove some
- 8:47high-skill events to do that,
- 8:48some high-skill options.
- 8:51He actually thought a plate carry would be
- 8:53good or something like that because a lot
- 8:56of gyms also don't have very many sleds.
- 8:59Now,
- 9:00Nicole was saying they only had two sleds,
- 9:02but because it was a six minute interval
- 9:04with a lot of rest,
- 9:06they actually launched people on the sled
- 9:08push every thirty seconds because it
- 9:11didn't take thirty seconds to do a twenty
- 9:14five meter sled push.
- 9:16You just pushed it down to the other
- 9:17side of the floor.
- 9:18And then at the next thirty seconds,
- 9:20that person would then push it down to
- 9:22the other side of the floor.
- 9:23And then you would jump on your echo
- 9:25bike once you finish the sled push.
- 9:28And Dave said that messed with his mind,
- 9:31you know, the logistics of it all.
- 9:33And she's like,
- 9:33you do the logistics for the CrossFit
- 9:35Games and a class adaptation of these
- 9:39logistics is blowing your mind.
- 9:41Like it was a really cool back and
- 9:42forth.
- 9:43And I think it showed both personalities a
- 9:45lot more than in other ways that they've
- 9:48done it.
- 9:54Jody Lynn, I agree.
- 9:55Denise, I wish I could do sleds.
- 9:58Sled pushes destroy me.
- 10:03Yeah, my buddy and I...
- 10:05We used to do Saturday odd object days
- 10:10where we would just basically do like sled
- 10:13pushes, sandbags,
- 10:14different stuff like that outside in the
- 10:18warm months to do that.
- 10:20And we would do it during open gym
- 10:21and just kind of look around the internet
- 10:23for really cool stuff.
- 10:26And it was just kind of a break
- 10:27of the week that we really enjoyed.
- 10:31But it was not programmed for us.
- 10:33We were just being mavericks and doing
- 10:36whatever we kind of saw on the internet.
- 10:40And I kind of miss that, you know.
- 10:47I'm Mark Phillips.
- 10:47We just have a torque tank.
- 10:49It's okay.
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:52I don't like that you have to go
- 10:53kind of at its pace.
- 10:55They're just weird.
- 10:56Yeah.
- 11:02Um, how has that scored total time?
- 11:03Sorry if you already said it.
- 11:05Uh, I don't,
- 11:06they didn't really talk about how it was
- 11:08scored.
- 11:09They really just talked about how it made
- 11:10them feel.
- 11:12Um, and maybe it was just, Hey,
- 11:15and she said they did like some high
- 11:17skill work before it, uh,
- 11:19just working on some high skill stuff.
- 11:22Uh, so maybe it was just complete,
- 11:24maybe get you to your check Mark for
- 11:25the day.
- 11:27Um,
- 11:31So I don't really know, uh, David Reed.
- 11:41Uh, we only have one sled,
- 11:43so never do them in class,
- 11:44but I did them last Saturday before
- 11:46partner class with Cindy.
- 11:47Yeah.
- 11:47Yeah.
- 11:47We always,
- 11:50we never really had them in class either.
- 11:52Um,
- 11:53that's why my buddy and I would do
- 11:55like odd object Saturdays and we had two
- 11:57sleds back then.
- 12:01Uh, Frida, you could use a box, uh,
- 12:04you use for box jumps and add weight,
- 12:06uh, if needed Jody.
- 12:08Yeah.
- 12:10Jody works out in her basement though.
- 12:11I don't know if she has the
- 12:18And that's kind of the bad thing if
- 12:20you are a garage person or something like
- 12:23that.
- 12:23Like my garage isn't big enough to have
- 12:25twenty five meters.
- 12:27My driveway is probably a twenty degree
- 12:31angle too.
- 12:35So I'd have to be one of those
- 12:36mavericks that go out on the street and
- 12:39push a sled,
- 12:42wake everybody up in the neighborhood.
- 12:49Jody says, I will give it a try.
- 12:51I have a little bit of runway.
- 12:52Not much, though.
- 12:56So they did stick to plan, though.
- 12:59And at the very end of their little
- 13:02podcast, they opened it up for questions.
- 13:05And I did get one in.
- 13:07And so I did want to share that
- 13:09with you guys.
- 13:12They've answered it.
- 13:14And I thought that was really cool.
- 13:16So I'm going to go ahead and share
- 13:17that now.
- 13:24So here it is.
- 13:25So as the leader,
- 13:26as the leader in fitness,
- 13:28in the fitness space,
- 13:29I'll say as a leader,
- 13:30I'll say that as a leader in the
- 13:31fitness space,
- 13:32do you feel a responsibility to bring the
- 13:33community back together?
- 13:33Or do you believe the strong will survive?
- 13:35I think there's an aspect of wanting the
- 13:38community together and fostering that and
- 13:40keeping it, again,
- 13:41marching in the right direction,
- 13:43arm in arm,
- 13:44that I would like to see for sure.
- 13:46but not at the expense of compromising our
- 13:48values to get some people who might be
- 13:51on the outside or on the verge of
- 13:52going on the outside because for a variety
- 13:54of reasons that might compromise who we
- 13:56are.
- 13:58Like meaning you also have to want to
- 13:59be here.
- 14:00And if you don't want to be here,
- 14:01I don't see it my responsibility or our
- 14:03responsibility to compromise who we are or
- 14:05the methodology or CrossFit to get you on
- 14:07board.
- 14:08If you want to be in the club,
- 14:09we want you in the club and we
- 14:10want you marching in the same direction.
- 14:12So that's how I feel about that statement.
- 14:13What do you think, Nicole?
- 14:16Oh, I mean, yeah, I'm right there, too.
- 14:18I think, you know,
- 14:20if you believe in what you do,
- 14:21and I think a lot of affiliates do,
- 14:22and they believe in the methodology,
- 14:23then it's then people are attracted to it.
- 14:25Because, you know,
- 14:26I can't remember who is it,
- 14:27James always said, like,
- 14:28I've never seen it not work.
- 14:29I mean, we believe what we do,
- 14:30because I've literally never seen it not
- 14:31work.
- 14:32You know, and so yeah,
- 14:33I think when if you want to be
- 14:34part of the club,
- 14:34and you want to you want all the
- 14:36the goods of the,
- 14:37the community and what it has to offer,
- 14:39like the buy in is believing in the
- 14:40methodology.
- 14:41And this is what we do.
- 14:42And we know it works.
- 14:45So that's the question I got in.
- 14:48And just to kind of rehash that,
- 14:52I asked,
- 14:53as a leader in the fitness space,
- 14:56do you feel you have a responsibility to
- 14:59try to bring the community back together?
- 15:05Or are you taking the approach of the
- 15:08strong will survive?
- 15:12And...
- 15:15And that was their answer,
- 15:16that they would love to walk arm in
- 15:18arm with people,
- 15:19but they're not going to compromise who
- 15:21they are to do that.
- 15:23And so I'd love to get your thoughts
- 15:25on that.
- 15:29Do you think they have a responsibility to
- 15:34reach out to some of these other entities
- 15:36and try to get that arm in arm
- 15:38relationship?
- 15:39sentiment to move forward or do you think
- 15:42that that it's too much of a compromise
- 15:45to do so uh amanda fillers i'm the
- 15:52crazy person in the neighborhood dragging
- 15:54pushing the sled around the block yeah uh
- 15:59nicole takes precisely zero of dave
- 16:03zero larry young says yeah i agree she
- 16:06did not give in to him at all
- 16:09during the show yesterday um and she
- 16:11fought for what she believed in for sure
- 16:13so do you so as he answered that
- 16:19i was thinking like that that makes a
- 16:21lot of sense it makes a lot of
- 16:23sense that you would not want to
- 16:24compromise who you are in order to get
- 16:27community buy-in and to walk arm-in-arm
- 16:32And, but at what,
- 16:39but what are you talking about is again,
- 16:43I think it goes back to what we've
- 16:44talked about in the past.
- 16:45What are your core values?
- 16:47You should not compromise your core values
- 16:50of who you are and what you want
- 16:51to be to, to walk arm and arm,
- 16:55but like stubbornness and
- 17:02lack of communication have been issues
- 17:04with CrossFit.
- 17:05Those are things that maybe could change
- 17:08and maybe help in communicating something
- 17:12moving forward.
- 17:18Larry Young.
- 17:19I felt this was a shot at mayhem,
- 17:21but when mayhem basically pulled CrossFit
- 17:24out of the quicksand and started the
- 17:25resurgence of CrossFit with open and
- 17:30classic pulled.
- 17:31Yeah.
- 17:33thought about that too last night Larry
- 17:35with with Rich talking about leaving he
- 17:42had such an impact on last season
- 17:45with the open announcement,
- 17:47the Rocky shorts, getting everybody hyped,
- 17:50a huge crowd at mayhem for that open
- 17:52announcement.
- 17:53It just looked awesome.
- 17:55It gave people chills, all of that stuff.
- 17:59And then the mayhem classic went off so
- 18:02well.
- 18:02They put so much money into that to
- 18:05make it look good,
- 18:06to have a great broadcast,
- 18:08to have the best cast of athletes they
- 18:11could have.
- 18:12It wasn't their fault that people
- 18:13withdrew, but,
- 18:16they did the best they could with it
- 18:18and really kind of helped start the upward
- 18:22climb that we've seen from that point to
- 18:25the games.
- 18:28And, um,
- 18:32and so it's making this rich thing even
- 18:35weirder, um, even weirder.
- 18:42So, um,
- 18:49Frida,
- 18:50it kind of sounds like the old school
- 18:52approach.
- 18:55I get that.
- 18:56I get that.
- 18:58And you want to stick to your methodology.
- 19:01You want to stick to who you are.
- 19:04But I don't want to stay old school
- 19:06just to say we're staying old school.
- 19:10Like there weren't other entities trying
- 19:12to do what CrossFit was doing.
- 19:14There weren't competitors trying to take
- 19:16on CrossFit.
- 19:18I guess in this newer generation,
- 19:21how do you deal with that?
- 19:24And I'm not sure that sticking completely
- 19:30old school is the answer.
- 19:32I think, again,
- 19:34your core set of values and who you
- 19:36are, you should stick to for sure.
- 19:40But do we know what that is?
- 19:44And I don't know if CrossFit knows who
- 19:47they are enough to say that anymore.
- 19:58I feel it should stay with the workout
- 19:59methodology part.
- 20:01I agree.
- 20:02I do agree with that.
- 20:10But didn't he say he was still paying
- 20:11for the broadcast?
- 20:12Maybe he feels he's really not getting a
- 20:14good return on investment.
- 20:16I don't know if he's still paying for
- 20:17the broadcast.
- 20:19He did talk about how hefty of a
- 20:21price it was,
- 20:22and they had to make that decision.
- 20:24But I do think that Mayhem has enough
- 20:26cash to pay for that.
- 20:29And I don't think that,
- 20:31and here's where things are weird yet.
- 20:32It's again,
- 20:33this sport thing that they did to help
- 20:36out,
- 20:36but it's bigger than that with the
- 20:38affiliates.
- 20:40So Larry,
- 20:48I think HQ and Malik to rich,
- 20:52he would have a seated table.
- 20:54Then both pulled back senior comments,
- 20:57just speculation.
- 21:02I don't really know.
- 21:06I don't really know about that, Larry.
- 21:09I don't know.
- 21:17I see Dave as a completely separate vibe
- 21:20from CrossFit.
- 21:25I think that you're in the minority.
- 21:28I think that many people look at Dave
- 21:30as the face of CrossFit.
- 21:33He's the only one that regularly speaks.
- 21:35He's the only one we get information from.
- 21:38And so I do believe that there is
- 21:41a blurred line there.
- 21:44Even though I think in actuality you are
- 21:47correct.
- 21:50But I think it's very confusing for the
- 21:53mass public because he is the only,
- 21:57the only person we get to see and
- 21:59hear from.
- 22:08Anyway, that's enough about that.
- 22:14Speaking of semifinals,
- 22:17I want to just kind of lament something
- 22:19real quick.
- 22:20And that is that we don't have this
- 22:22set semifinal anymore.
- 22:24I was talking to Corey after the show
- 22:26yesterday.
- 22:27It's so hard to do interviews like I
- 22:31used to do them.
- 22:33We used to set up the semifinal season
- 22:36by looking at the rosters and being able
- 22:38to see who was going to compete in
- 22:39semis.
- 22:40And then we would reach out to as
- 22:42many as we possibly could to interview and
- 22:45learn new things about new people.
- 22:48I'm stuck in this paralysis of doing
- 22:51interviews now because I don't know who
- 22:55that group is anymore.
- 22:56And there's no way to easily get a
- 23:01list of who it's going to be.
- 23:04We don't see the rosters at different
- 23:05events until much later.
- 23:08I think semifinals are confusing the way
- 23:11they're done now.
- 23:12Because every semifinal had different
- 23:14rules.
- 23:15We don't know who's coming.
- 23:17We don't know who's withdrawing.
- 23:18We don't know all this stuff that's going
- 23:20on.
- 23:21And then it'd be nice to know who's
- 23:26going to be a semifinal this year.
- 23:29I think that information needs to be out
- 23:31there quickly because then you have these
- 23:33things happening now where qualifications
- 23:36for the TFX are happening.
- 23:38People think that that's for the semifinal
- 23:41that they held last year,
- 23:42but TFX has another event that they hold
- 23:45in January in Austin, Texas.
- 23:48which was different than the semifinal
- 23:50they held in Oklahoma.
- 23:52So now you're getting things with the same
- 23:54name, confusing people.
- 23:55I've seen questions to Dave about TFX.
- 23:59Should they do this qualifier?
- 24:01Should they do that qualifier?
- 24:02It's not even for the right qualifier.
- 24:06And if the mass public are confused about
- 24:09that already,
- 24:10I think we need to get the names
- 24:12of those semifinals out there so that they
- 24:14can talk about how to qualify,
- 24:17how they're going to pick their roster,
- 24:20all of those things moving forward.
- 24:24But on a personal note,
- 24:25it's just been really hard to see who
- 24:28these up-and-comer athletes are in the
- 24:31space because I don't have a list of
- 24:33like semifinal athletes to learn and get
- 24:35to know more.
- 24:39It's crazy.
- 24:41And I think the faster we know this
- 24:43information,
- 24:45the more this will clear up a bit
- 24:47as we move forward.
- 24:49But right now, it's just an awful mess.
- 24:56um denise dawn certainly is not the face
- 24:59of crossfit i agree ever since the the
- 25:03lazar death he has been mia cory and
- 25:11masters are supposed to get our very own
- 25:13live semi-final that is something entirely
- 25:15different and that is the limit of the
- 25:17information we have i know
- 25:23Frida,
- 25:23what irritated me the most was that the
- 25:25athletes were allowed to do as many as
- 25:26they wanted.
- 25:28I don't like that either.
- 25:30I don't, I didn't like that.
- 25:32And because it's taking opportunities away
- 25:34from so many other athletes, I,
- 25:37I don't like the fact that you have
- 25:38to be ready on this weekend.
- 25:42And if you get sick or anything like
- 25:43that, then you're just F for the year.
- 25:46But, um,
- 25:49but I don't think you should be able
- 25:50to do as many as you want.
- 25:51Maybe two, maybe cap it at two.
- 25:54See how that works.
- 26:04I don't know.
- 26:04Uh,
- 26:05Other thing I want to talk about is
- 26:07Hiller put out the list of lists today.
- 26:10If you have not seen it,
- 26:12he put out the list of the twenty
- 26:14four athletes who most likely have used
- 26:18PEDs.
- 26:21And.
- 26:23He said it's twenty four, not twenty five,
- 26:25because he didn't he didn't want to make
- 26:27it a perfect number.
- 26:28He just wanted to do the people he
- 26:30thought.
- 26:32It's a really interesting and very
- 26:33comprehensive list of athletes in the
- 26:36history of CrossFit that he has thought
- 26:40that have used PEDs.
- 26:47I.
- 26:50I will say that the evidence he gives
- 26:52for some of them are way more compelling
- 26:57than others.
- 27:01Some of the evidence he gives for some
- 27:04of the athletes, you're like, okay,
- 27:09he is saying this a little more clearly
- 27:14than with others.
- 27:18and uh mark yes men only um if
- 27:31you haven't seen it i don't want to
- 27:32spoil it when you get to number three
- 27:35the list of things he points out um
- 27:40And number three,
- 27:41the person he lists and the video
- 27:45evidence, picture evidence,
- 27:47whatever it is that he goes along with
- 27:49is very, very compelling.
- 27:51I think number three showed up to be
- 27:54more possible than two and one by the
- 27:57evidence he had shown.
- 28:06Jar Jar Binks, Alex Smith had me LOLing.
- 28:17Eric Mackey,
- 28:18the criteria for this list was a stretch.
- 28:20Reaching on this one hits and misses.
- 28:23Yeah,
- 28:23I think like it's a list of people.
- 28:27And I think you have to look at
- 28:28the evidence with each one to make your
- 28:30determination.
- 28:31Whether you think it's someone really on
- 28:34the list or not is the way I
- 28:36looked at it.
- 28:44and some of the evidence is way more
- 28:48compelling than others that's all i'll say
- 28:53sean oregon hillary sure as heck knows how
- 28:55to keep himself in the middle of the
- 28:56conversation he is self-admitted that he
- 29:00knows what videos will get him clicks and
- 29:04likes and all those things but it allows
- 29:06him to do the stuff like travel and
- 29:09spend some time with some people
- 29:12And, um,
- 29:13and those are the videos that I enjoy
- 29:15the most.
- 29:17And if it means he has to do
- 29:18these others to make the money to go
- 29:19do that, I understand it.
- 29:23And as a podcast host and looking for
- 29:26topics, he's awesome at providing those.
- 29:29Um, so yeah,
- 29:32I think he knows what he's doing.
- 29:34Um, for sure.
- 29:40I think it's all part of his plan.
- 29:48Last thing I'm going to touch on today,
- 29:52Eric Mackey,
- 29:53Liz Wishart was a great video.
- 29:54It was.
- 29:55Really, really was.
- 30:02Sean in Oregon.
- 30:02I'm a paid member of his channel, too,
- 30:05and love his work.
- 30:06Yes, I am as well.
- 30:08I am as well.
- 30:10And that reminds me,
- 30:11don't forget to like and subscribe, guys.
- 30:13We are getting so close to three K
- 30:15subscribers.
- 30:16We need like forty forty five more
- 30:19subscribers.
- 30:21And I'm hoping to hit that by year's
- 30:22end to get three K.
- 30:24Just sounds way better than two nine five,
- 30:28whatever, whatever we are,
- 30:29two nine five five.
- 30:33so love to say three k trying to
- 30:36get there by year's end but hit that
- 30:38like button it helps us get in the
- 30:40algorithm as well really appreciate that
- 30:42if you could do that uh how will
- 30:48you celebrate when you get three k uh
- 30:51i don't need to um i don't even
- 30:56think about the celebration i just i don't
- 30:58know we'll fit i'll figure out something
- 31:00we'll do something
- 31:04Um, try your dagger.
- 31:06I'll go make other accounts and subscribe.
- 31:10Uh, no need to do that.
- 31:11I let's make them legit.
- 31:14Let's make them legit.
- 31:19So, um, last thing again,
- 31:21I have a one o'clock meeting,
- 31:22so I'm going to get through this quick.
- 31:24MFC is this weekend masters fitness
- 31:26championships.
- 31:28Um, three thousand burpees.
- 31:31No, thank you.
- 31:32I will find it.
- 31:33I would rather do three thousand cows on
- 31:35a bike than three thousand burpees.
- 31:39Um.
- 31:44mfc's this weekend please uh i think
- 31:48they're gonna broadcast i've heard they're
- 31:50gonna broadcast really really really um i
- 31:55hope it comes off well um but they're
- 31:58doing pairs championships and they're
- 32:01they're calling it the crossfit games
- 32:02champion of pairs is this a category we
- 32:05need i'm curious to know do we really
- 32:09need the crossfit games champion in pairs
- 32:15I know that the games are trying to
- 32:17help MFC be relevant in their offseason
- 32:21competition.
- 32:23I've always looked at MFC as the East
- 32:25Coast Masters Championship,
- 32:27Legends as the West Coast Masters
- 32:30Championships.
- 32:33And...
- 32:36I don't get why you have to be
- 32:38gimmicky with pairs or whatever it is
- 32:42you're doing to try to make something
- 32:46else.
- 32:48I think we need to be better at...
- 32:51promoting our masters individuals and
- 32:53getting people to watch them as opposed to
- 32:56pairs.
- 32:59A friend of mine sent me a text
- 33:00today and maybe we'll talk about it on
- 33:02the show at some point, but they're,
- 33:05they're losing individuals right now.
- 33:08And they're just handing spots over to
- 33:11teams or pairs that lost a person to
- 33:14injury in the individual instead of going
- 33:17back to the leaderboard and offering it to
- 33:20people who actually qualified as an
- 33:22individual.
- 33:24All this weird back behind the scenes
- 33:26stuff that happens is more reason to look
- 33:33skeptically at what they do.
- 33:37You need to be on the up and
- 33:39up, do things in a proper way,
- 33:42and not just fill seats to fill seats.
- 33:47If you have a spot in the individual
- 33:50elite division,
- 33:51offer it to the individuals that qualified
- 33:56in that field,
- 33:57not a team that lost a member.
- 34:00That's just asinine,
- 34:02and it makes people question why and what
- 34:05you do.
- 34:18I know a lot of Masters athletes that
- 34:20like teams better, easier on the body.
- 34:24Maybe that is why they are trying this
- 34:26format.
- 34:29Okay.
- 34:31I can get behind that.
- 34:35Then don't make your competition
- 34:37everything else around it.
- 34:42When I've been at every MFC,
- 34:45the teams are never on the main floor.
- 34:48If you are really trying to promote this
- 34:50as a new option moving forward,
- 34:53it should be on the main floor and
- 34:54the main broadcast.
- 34:57And with that explanation,
- 34:59that as we get further along in this,
- 35:04this is in CrossFit,
- 35:06it's easier on the master's body to do
- 35:08teams.
- 35:09We want to celebrate pairs.
- 35:11Here you go.
- 35:12That makes sense.
- 35:15but making it a part of this big
- 35:16three-ring circus that's always on the
- 35:20subfloor instead of the main floor,
- 35:23you're never going to get there.
- 35:25You're never going to get there.
- 35:32Denise,
- 35:32there are only two women in the elite
- 35:34division over sixty.
- 35:35The rest are RX.
- 35:38Yep.
- 35:43I do like what Shannon is saying though.
- 35:45I do get that.
- 35:50Sean in Oregon,
- 35:50Paris champs is interesting.
- 35:52Each Friday,
- 35:53Saturday is a team wad in my gym
- 35:55and most comps I sign up for prior
- 35:57to prioritize teams of two or three.
- 36:01Uh, so I can relate to teams.
- 36:04Um,
- 36:06Again,
- 36:07I see what you're saying and it makes
- 36:09sense to me.
- 36:10But if that's the way you're going to
- 36:11go about it,
- 36:12then make sure you're prioritizing that as
- 36:18the event of choice when you go to
- 36:20watch.
- 36:22So you can truly promote it and see
- 36:25if it's going to work.
- 36:26See if it works for the spectators.
- 36:28See if it works for the athletes.
- 36:30Then we can get a true test and
- 36:32see if this can move forward.
- 36:46I agree Scott their teams are always off
- 36:48camera out of sight out of mind exactly
- 36:51Dan Church I missed the beginning are you
- 36:53coming to MFC Scott if you need a
- 36:54place you can stay with me I have
- 36:56an extra room I haven't decided yet just
- 37:00like last year Dan I probably I'll make
- 37:03a decision on a whim this weekend and
- 37:05see I do have a three-day weekend
- 37:11I know Jamie's going to be there tomorrow.
- 37:14Um, I can't get off work for that.
- 37:17Um,
- 37:17but maybe I'll come up for a day
- 37:18on the weekend.
- 37:26Corey,
- 37:27I thought you only needed to sign up
- 37:28and not qualify if you were over sixty.
- 37:30I think you're right, Denise.
- 37:37It's counter logical.
- 37:38Nobody watches the coverage.
- 37:39If the coverage was decent,
- 37:41more would watch.
- 37:45Uh, Jake,
- 37:45what I'm trying to say is they don't
- 37:48ever,
- 37:48they are trying this new thing of teams
- 37:50of two, uh, in the master's divisions.
- 37:53One of our master's athletes jumped in and
- 37:55said,
- 37:56it's easier on the body and they actually
- 37:57prefer that.
- 38:01And so they are crowning pairs champions
- 38:04at MFC this weekend.
- 38:10What I'm saying is, yes,
- 38:13you're doing this.
- 38:14We'll never know if it works if you
- 38:16never put it in the spotlight.
- 38:18They are always on the third stage.
- 38:20It's never on the broadcast.
- 38:22Nobody ever gets to see it.
- 38:24And I will tell you,
- 38:25there are usually bigger names in the
- 38:26pairs divisions at MFC than there are in
- 38:29the individual.
- 38:30But they've never spotlighted it for us to
- 38:34even know if people would watch it.
- 38:38because they try to be everything for
- 38:39everyone.
- 38:40I think they need to focus down on
- 38:42maybe just pairs and see if they can
- 38:45make that a viable option.
- 38:55Shanna, I agree.
- 38:57It needs to be in the spotlight.
- 38:58It does.
- 39:04Denise, I would have to take boats,
- 39:05trains, planes,
- 39:06and cars for me to get to Fort
- 39:08Wayne.
- 39:09It is not the easiest place to get
- 39:10in and out of, but thankfully for me,
- 39:12it's only about two,
- 39:14two and a half hours away.
- 39:15So I can actually drive up there.
- 39:17Now I have to drive through every corn
- 39:19field in Ohio to get there,
- 39:22but I can get there in like two
- 39:23and a half hours.
- 39:41Don't moan to me about travel.
- 39:43I watched your show where you took us
- 39:46on a trip to get to Coaches Congress
- 39:49and back.
- 39:50Dude, I do not envy that at all.
- 39:55I feel so bad that you have to
- 39:57do that.
- 40:02Jody says I should go.
- 40:06I might go.
- 40:07It's just been a busy year for us
- 40:10with everything in the house.
- 40:11So I just don't know.
- 40:13I don't know.
- 40:15Yeah,
- 40:15I got five minutes before my meeting.
- 40:17I better get going.
- 40:19I just don't want to go to this
- 40:20meeting.
- 40:21This is a meeting where the person that
- 40:24we meet with has to give us a
- 40:25resume.
- 40:26Twenty seven times during the meeting.
- 40:28And there's only like ten percent of the
- 40:31meeting is valid information for me to
- 40:34take away from it.
- 40:35The rest is her just bragging about all
- 40:37the things she's done.
- 40:42So.
- 40:44With that, I better get going.
- 40:47Thank you guys for hanging out.
- 40:49This has been fun.
- 40:50We'll be back at it tomorrow.
- 40:53Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 40:55And we will have, I don't know,
- 40:57we'll do something.
- 40:59But don't forget to like and subscribe.
- 41:01You knuckleheads get back to work.
- 41:02I got to go.
- 41:03We'll see you then.
- 41:05Bye.
