The Blue Mini: John Cannan, Shirley Banks and the Shadow of Suzy Lamplugh
In October 1987, newlywed Shirley Banks vanished after a shopping trip in Bristol. Three weeks later, police arrested John Cannan after a knifepoint attack in Leamington Spa and found her car tax disc in his glove box and her Mini, repainted blue, in his garage. This is the story of how he was convicted of her murder, and why police named him as their only suspect in the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh, a case in which he was never charged.
