- 19:38Speaker 3: now gets ready for Europe and the UK. Love his
- 19:43Speaker 3: social media content, of course, been chilling, very self reflective,
- 19:49Speaker 3: sharing a lot of his personal thoughts there. Love it
- 19:55Speaker 3: giving him some time to kind of reflect on some
- 19:57Speaker 3: of the things that he's been doing. And it's been
- 20:01Speaker 3: very open as far as some of his opinions on things.
- 20:04Speaker 3: But there is this very spiritual aspect to what he
- 20:08Speaker 3: feels he's doing and I love that something beyond himself.
- 20:13Speaker 3: It's really cool. This is shot up. The sounds called bounce.

- 22:03Speaker 3: get on the show, but I love to talk to
- 22:06Speaker 3: him about his process and what he does. Shub is awesome.
- 22:10Speaker 3: This song is called Bounce. It's from his Chapter four
- 22:14Speaker 3: EP that he just put out. My favorite song from

- 25:17Speaker 3: We've got Selmi on the call with us right now.
- 25:19Speaker 3: How are you?
- 25:20Speaker 21: Miss?
- 25:21Speaker 25: I am excellent and I love how you've said my
- 25:24Speaker 25: name with the American accent around it, but you still
- 25:27Speaker 25: said my name right.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Can I tell you something. I probably walked around for
- 25:31Speaker 3: about two minutes walking to myself down the hallway practicing
- 25:35Speaker 3: how to say that. It's really an adjustment from an
- 25:37Speaker 3: American act. Yeah, it's it's quite a bit of work
- 25:40Speaker 3: because you have to adjust from the American accident to
- 25:42Speaker 3: such an Indian pronunciation. It's hard.
- 25:45Speaker 25: Yeah, and I don't know how you did that. It
- 25:47Speaker 25: was amazing.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Well, it is really nice to be on the line
- 25:50Speaker 3: with you today. A big fan of your work. We
- 25:53Speaker 3: all know you from that wonderful work that you've done
- 25:57Speaker 3: with Patashan, and what great work that was.
- 26:01Speaker 9: You know.
- 26:01Speaker 3: I want to start off this show by asking you,
- 26:05Speaker 3: you know, tell us about that young lady that maybe
- 26:11Speaker 3: found out that she was going to go do something
- 26:13Speaker 3: that would potentially change her life. Take us back to
- 26:16Speaker 3: that young lady that was before all of this stuff,
- 26:20Speaker 3: and how much has changed in that time period between
- 26:23Speaker 3: you then and you now. I'm sure a lot, but
- 26:27Speaker 3: please do tell us.
- 26:29Speaker 25: A lot, like an absolute lot, because I went from
- 26:34Speaker 25: absolutely having no idea that I was going to sing
- 26:39Speaker 25: in films at all, or that that was a career
- 26:41Speaker 25: option for me at all, to then getting a song
- 26:45Speaker 25: that slipped my life over within like overnight, like literally overnight.
- 26:51Speaker 25: The thing they speak about in films that zindigibundaigi. That's
- 26:55Speaker 25: what happened with me, and everything changed from my aspirations
- 26:59Speaker 25: also then changed because from wanting to sing in the
- 27:03Speaker 25: clubs and bars and singing my own original music, however
- 27:07Speaker 25: small the audience, suddenly I was put in front of
- 27:09Speaker 25: many thousands of people, far too soon, i'd say, because
- 27:12Speaker 25: of the success of Parishan. But it made me dream bigger. Also,
- 27:17Speaker 25: I think I am a product of the success that
- 27:22Speaker 25: was handed to me in a way interesting. Yeah, And
- 27:27Speaker 25: I didn't take it that well, Sammy. You know, in
- 27:29Speaker 25: the beginning, I wasn't sure if I was deserving of
- 27:33Speaker 25: the success that I got because I got it too
- 27:35Speaker 25: soon and I didn't know what to do with myself.
- 27:39Speaker 25: But as life would have it, and the people I met,
- 27:43Speaker 25: and the opportunities that came my way, like Pritama giving
- 27:48Speaker 25: me songs like that they See and Let's le Gay
- 27:50Speaker 25: and then having Vishal take her the baby go base person,
- 27:53Speaker 25: the chingham Tebaki, all these beautiful songs that made me
- 27:57Speaker 25: understand my own potentially, you know, and learn two things
- 28:00Speaker 25: about myself.
- 28:03Speaker 9: Good luck.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot has changed, I'm sure. And of course
- 28:07Speaker 3: working with each of those individuals that you named some
- 28:10Speaker 3: of the greatest of our generation, Yeah, you learn so much.
- 28:13Speaker 3: You go through such a personal kind of development there
- 28:18Speaker 3: and each of the songs that you work with on them,
- 28:20Speaker 3: whether it's the process of the entire project or what
- 28:22Speaker 3: it may specifically call for, but or the song itself.
- 28:26Speaker 3: You know of these great names without having to actually
- 28:29Speaker 3: specifically mention anyone by name if you don't choose to.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Were there people that you know, different people that brought
- 28:36Speaker 3: out something from you that made you feel uncomfortable in
- 28:39Speaker 3: the moment, but you are glad you did it after
- 28:40Speaker 3: the fact.
- 28:42Speaker 25: Absolutely, In fact, this one song that I did sing,
- 28:46Speaker 25: which I completely didn't feel like I was cut out for,
- 28:49Speaker 25: and I felt like staged.
- 28:52Speaker 26: Was it.
- 28:52Speaker 25: They called me to sing a song called Hyrana for
- 28:54Speaker 25: the film Nowaday Ish Yeah, and the pretty much tailor
- 28:59Speaker 25: made that song for Okay. So I remember sitting in
- 29:03Speaker 25: the guitarist's house on the floor with a harmonium and
- 29:07Speaker 25: the guitarist frumming the guitar and headed Bay is playing
- 29:10Speaker 25: the harmonium and they're figuring the scale of the song
- 29:14Speaker 25: or so that I am comfortable singing it. And having
- 29:16Speaker 25: said that, I just felt like it was just not
- 29:18Speaker 25: up my alley and that they shouldn't have me singing it.
- 29:21Speaker 25: And I had to be in the studio three days
- 29:23Speaker 25: in a row trying to get that song right, and
- 29:26Speaker 25: I felt like I was just not the one for it.
- 29:29Speaker 25: And I kept telling Mary, why are you wasting your
- 29:32Speaker 25: time with me? You're wasting studio time and your resources.
- 29:35Speaker 25: Get someone else, and he was adamant that no, you
- 29:38Speaker 25: will do it, and don't worry how many days it takes,
- 29:41Speaker 25: you are going to do it. And I literally had
- 29:43Speaker 25: goose pimples when I heard it on the third day.
- 29:46Speaker 25: What I was able to do just because he believed
- 29:48Speaker 25: in me.
- 29:49Speaker 9: Wow.
- 29:50Speaker 25: So I think that is a moment that I keep
- 29:55Speaker 25: remembering every time I am confronted with something that I
- 29:59Speaker 25: haven't felt very comfortable doing all that selfs like this
- 30:02Speaker 25: is not something for me, and I remember recording Chyron.
- 30:06Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Yeah. You go through this process, you go through going
- 30:11Speaker 3: into let's just call it entering the phase of a
- 30:14Speaker 3: successful artist out there and be it through this path
- 30:17Speaker 3: of being a Bollywood singer, and then comes a moment
- 30:21Speaker 3: in life where you say, you know what, I want
- 30:26Speaker 3: to go in this direction. There's something that probably pulled
- 30:29Speaker 3: you in towards that direction, which is to kind of
- 30:32Speaker 3: sail off in a very scary place, which is becoming
- 30:35Speaker 3: an independent artist. It is a very scary place to
- 30:38Speaker 3: go into. But yet you sail off into that direction.
- 30:43Speaker 3: You know, if you don't mind me asking you, what
- 30:45Speaker 3: was it about the business not to say that you
- 30:48Speaker 3: have you know, left it behind or there was something
- 30:50Speaker 3: that you wanted to kick behind you there? But was
- 30:53Speaker 3: there a moment there that made you say, you know,
- 30:56Speaker 3: I want to I want to go in this direction.
- 31:00Speaker 25: I felt like I wasn't doing everything that I was
- 31:03Speaker 25: supposed to be doing within music. A lot that I'm
- 31:07Speaker 25: singing for films is using your voice, but I don't
- 31:11Speaker 25: feel like I am meant.
- 31:13Speaker 3: To do just that.
- 31:14Speaker 12: I was.
- 31:15Speaker 25: I felt like my calling as a musician was to
- 31:17Speaker 25: write my own music, to write for others someday, to
- 31:21Speaker 25: perform that music, to conceptualize the music video or a
- 31:24Speaker 25: stage show, or design costumes. And there's just so many
- 31:27Speaker 25: legs and arms to music that I felt like would
- 31:31Speaker 25: be the thing that I would feel my soul is
- 31:34Speaker 25: satisfied now doing music right. I just didn't feel like
- 31:37Speaker 25: I it was enough for me to render a song
- 31:41Speaker 25: written by someone else, and that is what you end
- 31:44Speaker 25: up doing when you're singing in for films. So and
- 31:49Speaker 25: I remember that the initial dream was always to write
- 31:52Speaker 25: my own music, and the lockdown made me really get
- 31:55Speaker 25: back to that dream and just wake up from this
- 31:58Speaker 25: soul state of going with the flow, which is what
- 32:00Speaker 25: happened for ten good years, you know with Bollywood. Still
- 32:04Speaker 25: lockdown came in and I was reminded that, hey, you
- 32:07Speaker 25: wanted to write your own songs, remember that's what you
- 32:09Speaker 25: decided to do with it. And that's when I really
- 32:13Speaker 25: got back to it.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that must have been a moment for you because
- 32:19Speaker 3: it probably showed you that your own path was in
- 32:23Speaker 3: your own control. You could put out the work that
- 32:26Speaker 3: was self liberating in whatever personal way that may be.
- 32:30Speaker 3: And so now you head off into this direction, you
- 32:32Speaker 3: start doing the independent thing, as we say, very difficult terrain,
- 32:37Speaker 3: as we talked about, but you've done it so well.
- 32:39Speaker 3: And my question to you is, you know what were
- 32:42Speaker 3: you going to say?
- 32:42Speaker 24: But what?
- 32:44Speaker 25: But I feel like I'm questioned by Bollywood and I
- 32:48Speaker 25: am very aware of that.
- 32:49Speaker 3: The fact that I have these.
- 32:52Speaker 25: Hits from Bollywood and film music under my belt, it
- 32:55Speaker 25: really questions my endeavors into the end and in space
- 33:01Speaker 25: because for an independent, like truly independent artists who has
- 33:04Speaker 25: had no hit songs, it's much much harder than it
- 33:08Speaker 25: is for me. I find I still feel like I
- 33:12Speaker 25: can take the money that I make through my stage shows,
- 33:17Speaker 25: et cetera, and pump it into my independent music so
- 33:20Speaker 25: I can fuel that fire. Having said that, I know
- 33:27Speaker 25: that I have still worked on my Bollywood side. It's
- 33:31Speaker 25: not like it just came out of nowhere. I have
- 33:33Speaker 25: put in the work and I should acknowledge that as well,
- 33:36Speaker 25: which my imposter syndrome is like extremely big it should.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Be celebrated, and it is. And of course for you,
- 33:43Speaker 3: it's opened so many doors and here you are, as
- 33:46Speaker 3: I said to you, it's allowed you the luxury to
- 33:48Speaker 3: push off into this direction uncharted sometimes as it may be,
- 33:53Speaker 3: the industry has changed so much over this decade, maybe
- 33:57Speaker 3: even two decades, or people like myself that have been
- 33:59Speaker 3: around even a little bit longer three decades. But my
- 34:03Speaker 3: question to you is this, is it easier now or
- 34:06Speaker 3: is it harder than when you first started.
- 34:12Speaker 25: I like that it's harder now. I've wanted it to
- 34:16Speaker 25: be hard in the beginning, which I didn't get. Remember
- 34:18Speaker 25: when I said that Paristan came in too easy, and
- 34:20Speaker 25: I felt like was the struggle was my struggle?
- 34:23Speaker 14: You know?
- 34:23Speaker 3: And I feel like.
- 34:24Speaker 25: Maybe my struggle is this. This is my struggle, and
- 34:27Speaker 25: I'm celebrating my struggle because when I win, you know,
- 34:31Speaker 25: when I do, when I feel like, yes, I have won,
- 34:34Speaker 25: I feel worthy of that win, which I don't think
- 34:36Speaker 25: I felt, you know when Parissan came out, And this
- 34:39Speaker 25: is that period for me that I'm really enjoying.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yeah, there's phases of you I have witnessed out there.
- 34:49Speaker 3: And by the way, I love how you use social media.
- 34:54Speaker 3: I'm going to say it as a weapon, because you
- 34:56Speaker 3: have used it as a way for people to really
- 34:58Speaker 3: get to connect with you, be it the songs that
- 35:02Speaker 3: you decide to sing for your audience to the realm
- 35:07Speaker 3: of discussions that you have with the audience there on
- 35:10Speaker 3: the camera. I feel like you have really done an
- 35:12Speaker 3: excellent job of utilizing social media. You know, through my
- 35:16Speaker 3: voyage of discovering your work, I found that you had
- 35:20Speaker 3: a previous era of your identity, which was this. You
- 35:23Speaker 3: called it the gray hair, the silver hair pixie. And
- 35:27Speaker 3: now I.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Did.
- 35:30Speaker 5: I did.
- 35:31Speaker 3: And now as I see you here, what's the difference
- 35:35Speaker 3: between these two people here, the the pixie girl and
- 35:40Speaker 3: sel Mille right here talking to us today, Because that
- 35:43Speaker 3: was an interesting identity and I and I knew that
- 35:45Speaker 3: that probably comes from something.
- 35:50Speaker 25: You know, I feel like I'm still that girl with
- 35:54Speaker 25: the pixie hair, and I felt like I needed to
- 35:59Speaker 25: I needed to showcase my version too. Like on the
- 36:04Speaker 25: outside I felt like who I was becoming and the
- 36:11Speaker 25: whole pivot into independent music and everything that I am
- 36:15Speaker 25: setting out to do, I felt like I had to
- 36:18Speaker 25: feel that on the outside as well, not only on
- 36:20Speaker 25: the inside. So I chopped my hair off. And I
- 36:22Speaker 25: don't know what it is about cutting one's hair that
- 36:25Speaker 25: makes you feel very liberated. There is something very and
- 36:32Speaker 25: I actually the whole I remember saying this, I don't
- 36:35Speaker 25: want to lean on my hair or beauty, you know,
- 36:39Speaker 25: like a woman's hair is hers her beauty right a
- 36:42Speaker 25: lot of times, and I didn't want to lean on
- 36:45Speaker 25: my hair. That is not what is beautiful about me.
- 36:48Speaker 25: I am who I am, regardless of my hair.
- 36:52Speaker 8: You know.
- 36:53Speaker 25: I remember feeling bad when I cut my hair, and
- 36:58Speaker 25: I just felt a little rebelling is also and I
- 37:01Speaker 25: still am that rebellious even now. I have a very
- 37:05Speaker 25: clear idea in my head as to what I want
- 37:07Speaker 25: to do and which direction I want to head in
- 37:12Speaker 25: and how soon I want to get there or how
- 37:15Speaker 25: soon I don't want to get there. So that the
- 37:19Speaker 25: inside of the pixie head girl is still the same,
- 37:21Speaker 25: she's just so hair has out grown now.
- 37:26Speaker 3: So funny here the music industry has changed in so
- 37:32Speaker 3: many ways. When you look at what Indian music is doing,
- 37:37Speaker 3: it has not only reached the diaspora and all the
- 37:40Speaker 3: corners of the diaspora, and I feel like the narrative
- 37:44Speaker 3: has been centralized, which is very interesting and it's a
- 37:47Speaker 3: great time. But then there's this movement where there's a
- 37:50Speaker 3: belief that Indian music could quote unquote crossover. And my
- 37:56Speaker 3: question to you is, do you see that happening? Do
- 38:00Speaker 3: you see an Indian artist coming along here? And I
- 38:04Speaker 3: and I don't mean to throw out the word for
- 38:07Speaker 3: you know, forever, yeah, because that's that's a lot of
- 38:10Speaker 3: math to go against. But in terms of maybe over
- 38:14Speaker 3: the next do you see a star over the next
- 38:17Speaker 3: five years that has the ability approach, the sound and
- 38:24Speaker 3: everything else that goes along with it to quote unquote
- 38:28Speaker 3: cross over to the mainstream? Are we do we already
- 38:31Speaker 3: have that person or has that person not come out
- 38:35Speaker 3: into the public site yet or does that person not exist?
- 38:40Speaker 25: I find that to a great extent, Honoman Kind is
- 38:43Speaker 25: the beginning of that, right.
- 38:44Speaker 3: I mean, he did cross over.
- 38:46Speaker 25: He is an Indian artist, even though he's rapping in English,
- 38:50Speaker 25: but he is an Indian artist and he's made that
- 38:52Speaker 25: kind of impact, and he has a lot of work.
- 38:54Speaker 10: Before the one that blew up correct.
- 38:57Speaker 25: To support his you know, credibility as an artist is
- 39:00Speaker 25: that it's not like a one hit wonder. So in
- 39:04Speaker 25: the sense of talent, and Indians having that kind of
- 39:07Speaker 25: impact over the music scene over the world one hundred percent.
- 39:12Speaker 25: I think everybody is looking to India right now in
- 39:15Speaker 25: this moment, like how there was a time when Nigeria
- 39:18Speaker 25: was like the place where afrobeat and stuff was was
- 39:21Speaker 25: like the.
- 39:23Speaker 3: The thing to look forward to.
- 39:24Speaker 25: I was digging acrobeit long before afrobeat became big. In fact,
- 39:29Speaker 25: we were in the reggaeton era when I was like
- 39:31Speaker 25: rooting for afrobeat, like yes.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Thank you got around for a long time. It really has,
- 39:38Speaker 3: and it finally enjoyed its moment maybe over this last decade,
- 39:41Speaker 3: of course, and so many artists that did break through.
- 39:43Speaker 3: And I agree with you, we're seeing the beginning of
- 39:46Speaker 3: this movement. And I loved your answer because that is
- 39:51Speaker 3: exactly what I was going to say. It's already happening, Sammy.
- 39:54Speaker 3: And to your point, we've staged it here in my backyard,
- 39:57Speaker 3: here in Coachella in the US and so on a
- 40:00Speaker 3: so forth, and we've had Jimmy fallon host our own.
- 40:04Speaker 3: So there you got. Yeah, so very.
- 40:07Speaker 25: Interesting happening, and it ought to happen because there's that
- 40:11Speaker 25: kind of talent and then got always been that kind
- 40:14Speaker 25: of talent. Yeah, and the whole image of India being
- 40:17Speaker 25: the snake charmers and elephants.
- 40:19Speaker 12: Are on the road and stuff.
- 40:20Speaker 25: It's like the sorry Bones. You are living in the
- 40:23Speaker 25: past and you are the one and fault if you're
- 40:25Speaker 25: thinking that about India.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Long gone, long gone for sure. Yeah, let's turn our
- 40:30Speaker 3: attention to your work here. You've got this song that
- 40:33Speaker 3: comes to comes across to me very personal. Yeah. My
- 40:38Speaker 3: question to you is how personal is this without of
- 40:43Speaker 3: course getting into any any pages of your diary, but
- 40:48Speaker 3: beyond that has is is this? Is this what you
- 40:51Speaker 3: mean by it's given me the ability to say what
- 40:55Speaker 3: I want and and how much into your diary do
- 40:59Speaker 3: you reach in when you songs?
- 41:02Speaker 25: I think that is the one thing I completely lean
- 41:06Speaker 25: on my emotions and whatever.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Tell us about this song as well. By the way,
- 41:11Speaker 3: in the context of this song, yeah, you know get
- 41:14Speaker 3: up of course being you know, stolen by love, I
- 41:17Speaker 3: guess is the way to put it right. But please
- 41:20Speaker 3: tell us yes, so I.
- 41:22Speaker 25: Don't find myself in my get up era right now
- 41:25Speaker 25: in life. But when I did write it, when we
- 41:28Speaker 25: were working on the demo, I just felt like I
- 41:31Speaker 25: wanted to go back to the time when I was
- 41:34Speaker 25: that girl who had surrendered herself in love, you know,
- 41:37Speaker 25: where she couldn't tell black from white, and she wanted
- 41:40Speaker 25: to just do anything and everything he wants to do.
- 41:45Speaker 25: And I find that young love, especially when you're in
- 41:48Speaker 25: your teenage or you know, your early twenties, you find
- 41:52Speaker 25: yourself in those situations where you're completely blind and no
- 41:58Speaker 25: matter how the man is treating you, you are okay
- 42:03Speaker 25: with it, completely smitten. And I think this song I
- 42:09Speaker 25: have tapped into that feeling. I'm not that person anymore,
- 42:11Speaker 25: by the way, I don't so it's a little late
- 42:15Speaker 25: for me to release a song like get Up in
- 42:18Speaker 25: my own context. But I could tap into that emotion
- 42:21Speaker 25: from when I was a little younger, when I had,
- 42:24Speaker 25: you know, felt absolutely smitten by the man that I
- 42:28Speaker 25: was crushing on or was in a relationship with.
- 42:32Speaker 3: That's so awesome, if you don't mind. First of all,
- 42:36Speaker 3: I wanted to thank you so much for joining us today.
- 42:39Speaker 3: This was a really fun conversation. We really got to
- 42:43Speaker 3: fall in love with your work, and then today this
- 42:46Speaker 3: conversation just amplified it even more for us. We really
- 42:49Speaker 3: gotta thank you for joining us today. This was a
- 42:51Speaker 3: lot of fun before we let you go, if you
- 42:54Speaker 3: can do us to please the honor of just introducing
- 42:57Speaker 3: us this song, and and and I'll hit play on
- 43:01Speaker 3: the song.
- 43:01Speaker 25: Getraft all right, I want time to sing it in
- 43:05Speaker 25: the same season so that you can blend into.
- 43:08Speaker 3: The oh that would be even better.
- 43:10Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 25: I hate it when you startying a lot of ohioarchy
- 43:15Speaker 25: and then the radio placed, then another.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Did the song speed up? Whatever?
- 43:25Speaker 15: Yeah?
- 43:28Speaker 5: Exactly?
- 43:33Speaker 27: Docker be to say, okay, alam.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Me so he has to.

- 44:10Speaker 2: The recorded.

- 44:13Speaker 3: Tell me that was awesome. Thank you so much for
- 44:15Speaker 3: joining us today, of course. And here's the song, folks.
- 44:20Speaker 25: Thanks the one.

- 53:36Speaker 3: shout out to sheel Molie today for joining us today
- 53:38Speaker 3: and being so open about her story and in my
- 53:42Speaker 3: time in this business. I'll tell you the rarest thing
- 53:45Speaker 3: I ever hear an artist say not I made it,
- 53:49Speaker 3: not I got lucky. The rarest thing is an artist
- 53:53Speaker 3: telling you that they wanted the struggle and didn't get
- 53:57Speaker 3: enough of it. Sheel molik Olga, it told me that
- 54:01Speaker 3: today and butter Sean made her a star overnight. The
- 54:05Speaker 3: dream most singers chased their whole lives handed her in
- 54:08Speaker 3: a single day and She'll tell you the honest thing
- 54:11Speaker 3: about that kind of success. It arrived before she'd earned
- 54:14Speaker 3: it in her own eyes, and the impost syndrome that
- 54:17Speaker 3: followed never fully left. Most artists would bury that. She
- 54:22Speaker 3: named it right here without flinching. And then she told
- 54:25Speaker 3: me that what she's doing about it. And then she
- 54:28Speaker 3: told me right here what she's doing about it. She
- 54:32Speaker 3: left the comfort of the Bollywood machine. She left the
- 54:35Speaker 3: comfort of the Bollywood machine, the hits, the cushion, the
- 54:40Speaker 3: guaranteed work, to build something with no guarantees at all,
- 54:44Speaker 3: her own music, her own voice, a harder road chosen
- 54:47Speaker 3: on purpose because in her own words, she likes that
- 54:51Speaker 3: it's harder. Now. When she wins on the road, she'll
- 54:55Speaker 3: feel worthy on the wind in a way she never
- 54:58Speaker 3: got to feel that time. When she wins on the road,
- 55:03Speaker 3: when she wins on this road, she'll feel worthy of
- 55:06Speaker 3: that win in a way she never got to feel
- 55:08Speaker 3: the first time. That's the difference between a singer and
- 55:12Speaker 3: an artist, and Chelmley is unmistakably the second thing. She
- 55:17Speaker 3: isn't afraid to show up in her raw modium. She
- 55:20Speaker 3: isn't afraid to show up in her raw emotion for
- 55:23Speaker 3: her audience. She skates the line between a song being
- 55:26Speaker 3: sung and an emotional condition being expressed deliberately because she
- 55:32Speaker 3: believes that's exactly what she owes the people listening her
- 55:36Speaker 3: truth rapped in a song and given to you. And
- 55:40Speaker 3: one more thing, she said, I want every one of
- 55:43Speaker 3: you to hear. When she talked about the old image
- 55:46Speaker 3: of India, the snaink charmers, the elephants, the tide cliches,
- 55:52Speaker 3: she didn't hedge. She said, if you still think that
- 55:55Speaker 3: about India, you're living in the past. That's the confidence
- 56:00Speaker 3: of an artist who knows exactly where her country is
- 56:03Speaker 3: headed and exactly where she's bringing to it and exactly
- 56:07Speaker 3: what she's bringing to it. Go find her independent work,
- 56:11Speaker 3: Go find gift. Sean Malik Oldgade is building something on
- 56:15Speaker 3: the hard road on purpose. When the rest of the
- 56:18Speaker 3: world catches up, you'll be glad you were listening to
- 56:22Speaker 3: it now right here on the bridge. I'll see you
- 56:24Speaker 3: guys tomorrow, everybody, and I'll leave you with this song
- 56:27Speaker 3: right here. This song is called Nate Joanna. It's by
- 56:32Speaker 3: This song is called Nate Joanna. It's Simmon jadri Jad.
