- 0:00Speaker 1: Our top End Pride is excited to present Whopping nineteen
- 0:04Speaker 1: events over two weekends for the Katherine Pride Festival and
- 0:08Speaker 1: the Darwin Pride Festival, which begin on the seventeenth and
- 0:12Speaker 1: run up until the twenty sixth of June. And Top
- 0:15Speaker 1: End Pride Chair Ambersayer's Hunt said that it is going
- 0:19Speaker 1: to be a huge celebration for the lgbt qia plus
- 0:24Speaker 1: community and their friends, family, visitors and allies. And she
- 0:28Speaker 1: joins me on the line right now, Good morning to you, Amber. Oh,
- 0:34Speaker 1: we're just having a bit of an issue with your
- 0:36Speaker 1: phone line there.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Can you hear us? Okay, yeah, I can hear you.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I can hear I can hear you perfectly now?
- 0:44Speaker 3: And how will move?
- 0:47Speaker 2: How big has Pride become in the top End?
- 0:51Speaker 3: Oh, it's starting to get very big. I mean that
- 0:54Speaker 3: was out with our plan a few years ago, was
- 0:57Speaker 3: to try and get it in line with the he's
- 1:00Speaker 3: around Australia and make it a really you know, an
- 1:03Speaker 3: event that others would want to come to, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 3: visitors and other you know, other people from around the
- 1:08Speaker 3: world and around Australia.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Now, what are some of the most well, what are
- 1:12Speaker 1: some of the things that are going to be happening. Firstly,
- 1:14Speaker 1: over it sounds like it's going to be massive. Nineteen
- 1:17Speaker 1: events over two weekends. What are some of the wonderful
- 1:20Speaker 1: events taking place?
- 1:23Speaker 3: Oh? Okay, So in Catherine we've got we've got Bears
- 1:29Speaker 3: and Bombshell Bingo that's selling really well at the moment.
- 1:32Speaker 3: We've also got Dime with Pride which we had last
- 1:34Speaker 3: year and that's that's actually sold out that one unfortunately,
- 1:38Speaker 3: so if if you missed out on that one, there's
- 1:41Speaker 3: drink and draw. So we've got the fabulous wonder Mama
- 1:44Speaker 3: coming up from Sydney and she's a qualified artist and
- 1:49Speaker 3: she's going to do a couple of sittings down in Catherine.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I think they're selling really well as well. With a
- 1:54Speaker 3: few more spots left, and that Catherine will mean with
- 1:57Speaker 3: a picnic Day, so that's on Sunday Fans Day. Come
- 2:01Speaker 3: on down and enjoy them stalls and some entertainment and
- 2:05Speaker 3: it's just a really family orientated place for kids to go.
- 2:08Speaker 3: There'll be some drag queens story time as well. So yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 3: it's going to be really great, really great EVNT in
- 2:14Speaker 3: Catherine is it the first meet a couple of days
- 2:16Speaker 3: Respite do you.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Need a couple of days rest before you get back
- 2:19Speaker 1: into some more events?
- 2:20Speaker 3: There is that, right, that's right, we all come back
- 2:23Speaker 3: to Dow and do it all over again.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Now, is that the first time that you've held that
- 2:28Speaker 1: there've been events for Catherine for Pride, for Top End Pride.
- 2:33Speaker 3: No, this is officially our second Catherine Pride. But the
- 2:39Speaker 3: year before that we did a Top End Dow and
- 2:42Speaker 3: Pride on the road a road show.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah, rong.
- 2:45Speaker 3: We took ad and Pride to Catherine in a road
- 2:48Speaker 3: show and it was really well received. So after we
- 2:51Speaker 3: went down there and we had a few sold out events,
- 2:53Speaker 3: it was like, yeah, no, these guys need their own festival.
- 2:56Speaker 3: So that's why we push forward. And now there's a
- 2:59Speaker 3: Catherroom Festival and the Darwin Festival.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And what are some of the most important messages coming
- 3:04Speaker 1: out of Pride this month?
- 3:08Speaker 3: Well, fears, because it's about our fear, strength and our resilience,
- 3:13Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera. So it's about being seen. It's
- 3:16Speaker 3: about you know, having visibility in the community and inclusivity.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It's it's really important that that everyone knows that they
- 3:24Speaker 3: have support, they're not their loone. We hear that's what
- 3:28Speaker 3: it's about. It's about being seen, so you know, making
- 3:31Speaker 3: safe spaces for everyone to come together, however you identify.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And in particular this year, the trans community is especially
- 3:40Speaker 3: the kids have been getting a bit of grief federally
- 3:44Speaker 3: and through the election, so they need to know that
- 3:46Speaker 3: their loved and you know, support it.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And how look.
- 3:52Speaker 1: When you when you look at something like that, when
- 3:54Speaker 1: you talk about something like that, how important is it
- 3:56Speaker 1: then or how important are events like the ones that
- 4:00Speaker 1: you are putting on both in in the top end
- 4:03Speaker 1: and also in Catherine.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Well, I mean they're important for our community because it's
- 4:11Speaker 3: it's hopefully safe spaces where they can come and be
- 4:15Speaker 3: together and not feel alone. And I guess in Catherine
- 4:19Speaker 3: in particular, it's a little bit more remote country town
- 4:22Speaker 3: type thing. And you know there are there is a
- 4:25Speaker 3: community down there that that needs support. They have support groups,
- 4:29Speaker 3: little support groups down there. But this kind of brings
- 4:31Speaker 3: everyone out of the woodwork, so to speak, and then
- 4:35Speaker 3: you know there's going to be headspace down there and
- 4:37Speaker 3: they'll be all sorts of support networks who have stalled
- 4:40Speaker 3: at the family days if anyone feels that they need
- 4:43Speaker 3: to reach out and don't know where to go, then
- 4:45Speaker 3: these kind of family days will will highlight who can
- 4:50Speaker 3: help them if they need any help. So you know,
- 4:53Speaker 3: they don't they don't you know, sit at home and
- 4:55Speaker 3: feel that there's nobody out there.
- 4:56Speaker 1: For them at the most the community, whether or not
- 5:02Speaker 1: their l G B, t Q I plus or other.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Do they like to get involved?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Of course, Yeah, we've got some amazing allies and obviously
- 5:13Speaker 3: family and friends, and yeah, our family days are often
- 5:17Speaker 3: frequented by many groups of different different family groups type thing,
- 5:22Speaker 3: not necessarily anyone in their family may identify. When we
- 5:25Speaker 3: have our market stools, we have lots of parents, younger
- 5:28Speaker 3: parents bringing their kids up and the kids are very young,
- 5:33Speaker 3: you know, to buy stickers or badgers or a hat
- 5:36Speaker 3: or something like that. And there's no issue there with
- 5:39Speaker 3: those parents that they're happy for, you know, their kids
- 5:42Speaker 3: to be involved and you know that there's no reason
- 5:44Speaker 3: to be scared of the rainbow. So you know, it's
- 5:46Speaker 3: it's a great thing. And those kids will grow up
- 5:49Speaker 3: with no you know, no inhibitions or no you know
- 5:54Speaker 3: ingrain kind of bigotry anything like that. It's all hate.
- 5:57Speaker 3: It's it's something that they will always hopefully they'll never fear. Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 3: there's no need.
- 6:03Speaker 1: To absolutely one hundred percent correct and such an important message.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Heyber that the crossing in the city is looking beautiful again,
- 6:12Speaker 1: finally been sort of brightened up a bit.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I know how awesome is It looks fantastic, so bright
- 6:20Speaker 3: and just in time for our parade, which starts on
- 6:22Speaker 3: the Saturday next week on the twenty fifth. So yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 3: we'll be starting our parade from that point, so over
- 6:28Speaker 3: and I get to get to walk over the rainbow
- 6:30Speaker 3: and in you know, not literally but you know.
- 6:35Speaker 2: What I mean, clothes as slice as we're going to do.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well we don't want to be doing that
- 6:41Speaker 3: too soon. Yeah, so we'll go on the parade that
- 6:45Speaker 3: is from nine am at Raintree Park. Everyone can meet
- 6:48Speaker 3: down there, and then we end up at the family
- 6:49Speaker 3: Day in the in Civic Park and that'll be really big.
- 6:52Speaker 3: There's I think it's fifteen or something seventeen stalls up
- 6:57Speaker 3: there again, a variety of allies services that the LGB
- 7:02Speaker 3: community can use. So there's yeah, some really great stuff
- 7:07Speaker 3: on this the weekend after. We've got the cabaret as well,
- 7:10Speaker 3: which are selling really fast. So if anyone wants to
- 7:13Speaker 3: go to that. That's Silk's on the rooftop. That's going
- 7:17Speaker 3: to be just fantastic. And there's the Fluro Fiercely Thureau
- 7:22Speaker 3: Dance Party, which is going to be great. That's it
- 7:23Speaker 3: ow and Entertainment. So and then we're flying up DJ
- 7:26Speaker 3: Kitty Glitter and Dan Murphy for that from Sydney.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So that should be fantastic.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and I really appreciate you joining us this morning to
- 7:38Speaker 1: tell us a little bit more about it.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Amber says Hunt.
- 7:40Speaker 1: If there is anybody out there listening this morning who's thinking, oh,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I want a little bit more info, can they find
- 7:45Speaker 1: it on Facebook or head to a website or somewhere.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, we've got our Facebook page and we've also
- 7:51Speaker 3: got top end top Endpride, dot com, dot au. Go

- 8:01Speaker 3: dime Re Priete is sold out. All the rest are available,
- 8:04Speaker 3: and yeah that it will just be a fantastic, really
- 8:06Speaker 3: really busy weekend. Guarantee that won't be able to speak

- 8:12Speaker 2: So we won't ask you.
- 8:14Speaker 1: We won't ask you on for a debrief to find
- 8:17Speaker 1: out how it's gone.
- 8:18Speaker 2: You might not have a voice left.
- 8:21Speaker 3: That's as long as I think I'll be okay.
