New China–North Korea bridge carries trucks as trade ties grow

A newly constructed bridge connecting northeastern China to North Korea is now carrying dozens of trucks, boosting trade with Pyongyang. The New Yalu River Bridge links Dandong to Sinuiju and has four lanes, spanning three kilometers over the Yalu River. It opened on October 15, roughly a month after another road bridge opened between North Korea and Russia. The new route is expected to ease congestion on the nearby, older Friendship Bridge. Analysts say trade through the Yalu bridge will probably increase only slightly at first.
