- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Of course I am your host, Clay, and with me
- 0:26Speaker 2: a little later than usual. My fault, not hers, not
- 0:31Speaker 2: my guys, is Katie, Katie, how are you doing it?
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm having a glass of wine, So that's basically it.
- 0:41Speaker 2: If I had alcohol in my house, I would be
- 0:45Speaker 2: doing the exact same thing.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Uh.
- 0:50Speaker 2: But guys, today we are going to be talking about
- 0:55Speaker 2: the newest Star Wars novel to not release. But the
- 1:02Speaker 2: embargo did go up as of yesterday at the time
- 1:06Speaker 2: of recording this, of course, that is the Bad Batch
- 1:09Speaker 2: Sanctuary is the book that we are going to review.
- 1:14Speaker 2: This officially has a release date.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Of August seventh.
- 1:21Speaker 2: August seventh, Okay, I didn't know if it was the
- 1:24Speaker 2: first or second week of August. August seventh is the
- 1:28Speaker 2: official release date for this book. And guys, this is
- 1:33Speaker 2: gonna sound crazy, absolutely crazy for somebody who has been
- 1:40Speaker 2: enjoying freaking five years of the High Republic. We've talked
- 1:46Speaker 2: about many books outside of the High Republic. I had said,
- 1:51Speaker 2: out of all the books that we reviewed that were
- 1:54Speaker 2: outside the High Republic, there's two novels in particular that
- 1:59Speaker 2: I absolutely loved in the last five years. The first
- 2:04Speaker 2: one was Brotherhood, the anakin Obi wan Kenobi book. The
- 2:09Speaker 2: second is Rise of the Red Blade, that was my
- 2:15Speaker 2: that quickly became my number one underneath Brotherhood. Out of
- 2:21Speaker 2: all the non high Republic books, this book may be
- 2:27Speaker 2: coming in at number three.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah this, guys, Before we get into it, we don't
- 2:36Speaker 3: have any news to talk about. San Diego Comic Con
- 2:39Speaker 3: is this weekend, so we will have stuff to talk
- 2:43Speaker 3: about next week. I'm one hundred certain yea, but this
- 2:48Speaker 3: is our main topic. We do not have another episode
- 2:51Speaker 3: this week simply because there was nothing else to talk
- 2:54Speaker 3: about really, and with the embargo dropping on Tuesday, it
- 2:59Speaker 3: works out that we can talk about this live, guys. So,
- 3:02Speaker 3: as always, we are going to avoid big plot spoilers. Yes, however,
- 3:09Speaker 3: there is a few scenes, including the end, that is
- 3:15Speaker 3: very important that we talk about because of what it
- 3:19Speaker 3: signifies in this instance, especially in regards to and Or
- 3:23Speaker 3: and everything. We will give you guys a warning before
- 3:26Speaker 3: we jump into hard spoilers, but the front part of
- 3:33Speaker 3: this episode should be non spoiler for you guys.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yes, so yes.
- 3:38Speaker 3: With that warning out there, Clay, Now you jump into it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Then I.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Absolutely loved this book. I have Uh. First off, I
- 3:51Speaker 2: want to go ahead and just tell everybody what I
- 3:55Speaker 2: just told Katie. Right before we started recording, I procrastinated
- 4:00Speaker 2: the ever living hell out of this book. I don't
- 4:03Speaker 2: know why. I like I think it was like my
- 4:07Speaker 2: my little voice in my head saying, hey, you know
- 4:10Speaker 2: how you didn't love the first season of Bad Batch,
- 4:16Speaker 2: and like you're probably a little scared that this is
- 4:19Speaker 2: gonna end up just like that. But remember like season
- 4:22Speaker 2: two and season three really started to ramp up, so
- 4:25Speaker 2: there's still some chance, guys. I procrastinated so much. I
- 4:29Speaker 2: started reading chapter two yesterday and then fell asleep this morning.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I started on chapter ten and I literally finished literally
- 4:44Speaker 2: seconds before we started recording, Like we were literally just
- 4:49Speaker 2: sitting here in our recording stream and I was just
- 4:54Speaker 2: reading super quick on the last three chapters. But that
- 5:00Speaker 2: being said, even though I sped through this book like crazy,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I have so many notations on this book, I stopped won't.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Have notations specifically because I had so much fun reading
- 5:18Speaker 3: this book, Like it feels just like an episode of
- 5:25Speaker 3: season two of The Bad Batch, which is where this
- 5:27Speaker 3: takes place. Guys, this takes place after episode thirteen in
- 5:32Speaker 3: season two, so there's like your timeline effort for this.
- 5:41Speaker 3: But I had a blast every second of this book.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I did not want to put it down. I was
- 5:46Speaker 3: upreading this at like one am, and Matt rolls over
- 5:49Speaker 3: and sees the light from my kindle and it's like,
- 5:51Speaker 3: Katie go to sleep.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I was essentially the same way. I was essentially the
- 6:00Speaker 2: same way. I literally fell asleep reading this book. I
- 6:04Speaker 2: was reading. I was trying to read it for just
- 6:07Speaker 2: so long last night. This is so much fun And
- 6:14Speaker 2: I want to give props.
- 6:17Speaker 3: To Lamar Giles.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yes, Lamar Giles is the author of this book. Whether
- 6:27Speaker 2: Lamar did his research by just getting annotations or sitting
- 6:33Speaker 2: down and watching the entire series of Bad Batch, this
- 6:40Speaker 2: person clearly knows these characters. And the reason why I
- 6:47Speaker 2: say that is there is just a couple things that
- 6:53Speaker 2: are said in this book and or foreshadowed in this
- 6:59Speaker 2: book that made me smile so big and or like
- 7:07Speaker 2: like for instance, spoilers for season three of Bad Batch.
- 7:12Speaker 2: There is literally a moment where Tech like he talks well,
- 7:22Speaker 2: so it's Hunter who talks about Plan ninety nine. Oh yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 2: but Tech legitimately gets his grappling gun and like caresses it,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and it's like, Oh, hasn't failed me yet?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Big sad.
- 7:40Speaker 2: The audacity, the audacity of that line being in this book.
- 7:47Speaker 2: My mouth just my jaw dropped. When I read that line.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I was like, how dare you, sir?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Yo? That Plan ninety nine broke my heart? But I
- 8:00Speaker 3: had forgotten about that. You're right, that was a big moment.
- 8:06Speaker 3: So when I was doing my research on the Markles
- 8:09Speaker 3: when this was announced, I actually missed this. So I
- 8:12Speaker 3: was looking at Wynock Manner's Ryan's review of this book,
- 8:18Speaker 3: and he points out that Lamar Giles wrote one of
- 8:22Speaker 3: our favorite stories from a certain point of view, Return
- 8:26Speaker 3: of the Jedi. What do you remember the Guardrail story
- 8:33Speaker 3: about that?
- 8:35Speaker 2: So much sense? That makes so much sense. Oh my god, wow,
- 8:46Speaker 2: just okay, okay, knowing just knowing that story and knowing
- 8:50Speaker 2: how this story ended up, that actually makes so much sense.
- 8:56Speaker 2: There's so many parallels in just like the tone and
- 9:00Speaker 2: and like the politically charged like storytelling in this and
- 9:09Speaker 2: that that totally makes sense. There's there are some others
- 9:16Speaker 2: things in here. There's a moment where record Hunter says
- 9:24Speaker 2: to him, record needs to go save the rest of
- 9:27Speaker 2: the team, and Hunter's like, well, I think Record is
- 9:32Speaker 2: the one that asks them, do I have to be quiet?
- 9:34Speaker 2: And Hunter says, do everything you can to be quiet,
- 9:39Speaker 2: And then like three chapters later, we get to see
- 9:43Speaker 2: the moment where Record comes into the scene to help
- 9:45Speaker 2: the other people, and it's this like very loud, obnoxious explosions,
- 9:52Speaker 2: and he's like, hey, Hunter told me to be loud,
- 9:55Speaker 2: but everybody Hunter told me to be quiet, but everybody
- 9:58Speaker 2: else was really loud, so I gave up that. I
- 10:01Speaker 2: like the and this is why I said this person again,
- 10:08Speaker 2: what was his name is Lamar Giles Lamar Lamar knows
- 10:14Speaker 2: the voice of these characters, because that is one hundred
- 10:18Speaker 2: percent something Record would say. And then immediately after that scene,
- 10:24Speaker 2: they're trying to run away and escape and they have
- 10:27Speaker 2: to get like that, they have to take cover in
- 10:31Speaker 2: a stable and what do we do? What do we do?
- 10:35Speaker 2: What do we do? What do we do? And Omega's
- 10:38Speaker 2: like I got an idea. Everybody looks at each other.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Then they look at Omega and they're like, don't tell
- 10:43Speaker 2: me you want to free all the animals, like and
- 10:49Speaker 2: Omega literally is like, oh well, I had other plans.
- 10:52Speaker 2: But yeah, that works too, like the fact that everybody
- 10:58Speaker 2: just made the a sum that's the first thing she
- 11:01Speaker 2: wanted to do. I love it that it's it is
- 11:05Speaker 2: the staple of her character in almost every season of
- 11:09Speaker 2: this show, putting it into this book. For one, even
- 11:14Speaker 2: on the very first mission in this book, she does
- 11:18Speaker 2: save a creature. So it's like.
- 11:21Speaker 3: A tiny gun dark. Yeah, they call it like a
- 11:25Speaker 3: miniature gun dark Like it's it's like a miniature poodle.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, like a miniature poodle or like a teacup
- 11:31Speaker 2: chihuahuas kind of like, yeah, I thought it would like
- 11:33Speaker 2: fit in the palm of her hands, Like, oh my god. Like,
- 11:36Speaker 2: so there's perfect.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It's perfect for this team. Dole's kill it.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I I absolutely loved this book. Uh there was uh, like,
- 11:53Speaker 2: the the notation that I put for all of these
- 11:55Speaker 2: is the whole record thing. I said. I loved it.
- 11:59Speaker 2: The freeing the animals, I put the notation everyone knows
- 12:03Speaker 2: Omega too well. Uh. And then even Tech asks everybody like, hey,
- 12:09Speaker 2: could we ride these animals? And Omega says, that's the
- 12:12Speaker 2: best question I've heard all day. Absolutely, I love this book.
- 12:17Speaker 3: All right, y'all, we're going to hit our first ad
- 12:19Speaker 3: break and we will be right back in three two one.
- 12:25Speaker 3: It's literally so perfect, and I love how it explores
- 12:30Speaker 3: the bad Batch as a team while still exploring everyone individually.
- 12:37Speaker 3: We hit so much personality about Record, so much personally
- 12:41Speaker 3: about Tech and his relationship with Feet without making it
- 12:46Speaker 3: stagnant like this also is only supposed to be about
- 12:49Speaker 3: Fi in.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Tech exactly so like my thing with the Fee and Tech,
- 12:56Speaker 2: So every single time we saw Be in the bad
- 13:02Speaker 2: Batch TV show, we saw the not so subtle flirtation
- 13:10Speaker 2: of Fee. Yeah, that's exactly how it is here. But
- 13:15Speaker 2: there is a little bit of nuance on the side
- 13:19Speaker 2: of Tech in this because we're able to explore that
- 13:24Speaker 2: side with him with a little bit more time of
- 13:26Speaker 2: the actual novel and the length of this novel, right,
- 13:30Speaker 2: I really enjoyed this because you have the awkwardness of Tech.
- 13:38Speaker 4: And him being almost okay with the flirtation and treating
- 13:45Speaker 4: it as a flirtation even though there might be something
- 13:48Speaker 4: real there, Like even near the end.
- 13:51Speaker 2: There's Tech questions. Because minor spoils to this book, we
- 13:58Speaker 2: won't go too heavily into it because I think the
- 14:01Speaker 2: twist is fun and I think that there is a
- 14:07Speaker 2: bigger conversation of what this means for like the future
- 14:12Speaker 2: of well, I feel like that's too much of a spoiler,
- 14:16Speaker 2: but I'll say it. It puts a really fun idea
- 14:22Speaker 2: of what we could see in future Star Wars projects.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I'll say that much, which I think is really really fun.
- 14:32Speaker 2: But there's like nods, there's there's even referencing to old
- 14:38Speaker 2: like first season stuff of the bad Ju, which I
- 14:41Speaker 2: thought was really really fun. I think there was a
- 14:45Speaker 2: couple planets that were introduced in this book as well
- 14:49Speaker 2: that I wasn't too familiar with. I don't know if
- 14:52Speaker 2: they were one hundred percent new, Like at one point
- 14:55Speaker 2: I texted Katie last night and I was just like,
- 14:59Speaker 2: they're there needs to be a control f on that
- 15:02Speaker 2: Giant Galaxy map that was shown a couple of weeks ago,
- 15:09Speaker 2: so that way I could just find where a planet is.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I genuinely, like, legitimately love this book. I didn't think
- 15:18Speaker 2: I was going to love it this much. I really
- 15:21Speaker 2: really do. We get to explore a little bit more
- 15:27Speaker 2: of the insecurities and trauma and self doubt that Hunter has,
- 15:36Speaker 2: as well as like the overprotectiveness of Hunter as well,
- 15:44Speaker 2: which I really.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Really well done way to do it without He doesn't
- 15:50Speaker 3: make Hunter overbearing, He just shows it as a character
- 15:57Speaker 3: element of Hunter, which we knew he all had. Like,
- 16:01Speaker 3: let's be real, there is no doubting that Hunter is
- 16:03Speaker 3: the overprotective one. But the way Giles does it doesn't
- 16:09Speaker 3: affect the rest of the team. It's he articulates it
- 16:12Speaker 3: through like almost Hunter's inner monologue. Now, this isn't a
- 16:17Speaker 3: first person book, so there's no like Hunter perspective, Omeger perspective.
- 16:22Speaker 3: This is still third person. I think it's omniscient is
- 16:25Speaker 3: what it's all. Yeah, but it's still so well done.
- 16:29Speaker 3: This is one of the most well written Star Wars books.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yeah, there's there's a moment in one of these chapters
- 16:39Speaker 2: where everything does kind of come to a head in
- 16:43Speaker 2: the sense of like the confrontation that our bad Batch
- 16:48Speaker 2: team is having with their mission, and it does cause
- 16:55Speaker 2: Hunter to kind of confront this overbear, this over the team,
- 17:02Speaker 2: and even the team says like, oh, you just wants
- 17:06Speaker 2: you just want what's best for us, and he's like
- 17:10Speaker 2: that's not a bad thing. And Omega clarifies because it's
- 17:14Speaker 2: both Tech and Record that are trying to explain to
- 17:17Speaker 2: Hunter like, Hey, this is what you're doing wrong, and
- 17:20Speaker 2: he's like, well, there's nothing wrong with that, and then
- 17:22Speaker 2: it's omega that it's like no, no, no, you don't understand.
- 17:25Speaker 2: You want We're not saying that it's wrong. You want
- 17:29Speaker 2: what's best for us without consulting us. There is no
- 17:34Speaker 2: conversation on what is best for us. You're just demanding
- 17:39Speaker 2: the X, Y, and Z are best for us, and
- 17:42Speaker 2: we just have to go with it. That's yeah, for one,
- 17:46Speaker 2: as somebody who has had overbearing parents at times, that's
- 17:52Speaker 2: a hundred percent of what an overbearing parent will do.
- 17:55Speaker 2: But two, as somebody who is now a new errant
- 18:02Speaker 2: and I kind of look at Hunter's actions on how
- 18:07Speaker 2: it can affect his family, and that's something that comes
- 18:12Speaker 2: up a lot in Hunter's defense. Yep, I look at Hunter,
- 18:17Speaker 2: and I'm like, I'm right there with you. I completely
- 18:20Speaker 2: understand the decisions that you're making. And so you, as
- 18:24Speaker 2: a reader are kind of stuck between a rock and
- 18:28Speaker 2: a hard place. Because everybody is correct, it's just how
- 18:34Speaker 2: they navigate it is what becomes the best resolution to everything.
- 18:41Speaker 2: But yeah, I was just gushing all over this book
- 18:45Speaker 2: reading it. I love this book. I so Okay, there
- 18:50Speaker 2: is a I believe. I didn't want to google this
- 18:54Speaker 2: character just in case there was a background. I didn't
- 18:59Speaker 2: really want any. But the main antagonist of this book crazy.
- 19:05Speaker 3: So there. So there's kind of two antagonists guys with this.
- 19:12Speaker 2: So you have.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So you have Celia Moten, who is basically an heiress
- 19:21Speaker 3: controls a lot of the construction businesses in the Galaxy
- 19:26Speaker 3: M and her end goal she's trying to basically get
- 19:31Speaker 3: a regional governorship.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, honestly, the best thing that you can relate
- 19:37Speaker 2: this to is because we've been talking so much about
- 19:41Speaker 2: the High Republic. Imagine like a Santeka throwing their money
- 19:45Speaker 2: around to say, hey, I want to be a part
- 19:47Speaker 2: of the government. Like that's essentially what this Also, by
- 19:56Speaker 2: the way, the the action like undertone story that they're
- 20:04Speaker 2: saying with her, by the way, totally like I saw
- 20:08Speaker 2: it from the start. I was like, oh, I don't
- 20:10Speaker 2: like this, but it's such a good villain, Like I, yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 2: I can't hate it, but I do.
- 20:16Speaker 3: We're gonna go into our second ad break and we'll
- 20:20Speaker 3: be right back.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, are the two main antagonists? Yeah?
- 20:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so yep, Oh I think it's Celia. We haven't
- 20:29Speaker 3: gotten an audiobook for this yet, so I'm not sure
- 20:31Speaker 3: on the pronunciation of character names, but she is kind
- 20:35Speaker 3: of at the front end of the story. Basically, what
- 20:40Speaker 3: we go on, guys, is one of these missions, and
- 20:43Speaker 3: in this case, the mission is to get credits to
- 20:46Speaker 3: repair Pabu after the tsunami that hit in episode thirteen.
- 20:53Speaker 3: So he has been hired out and has brought the
- 20:58Speaker 3: bad Batch along to retrieve it artifact for in this case, Celia.
- 21:04Speaker 3: What happens along the way is Fi gets another mission
- 21:08Speaker 3: and so it's like, well, well, just do two for one,
- 21:11Speaker 3: like it's only an extra day of travel, And that
- 21:14Speaker 3: leads us into our second villain and introduces the original characters.
- 21:20Speaker 3: So he who is a Kashiri who most people know
- 21:25Speaker 3: Kashiris from Fate of the Jedi series in Legends. They
- 21:34Speaker 3: are the sixth species uh oh okay, so they have
- 21:40Speaker 3: made appearances in canon, but not super frequently, but that's
- 21:43Speaker 3: where most people are going to know them from. And
- 21:47Speaker 3: then the other original character is her partner in this case,
- 21:56Speaker 3: which I I can't find his name at all for
- 21:59Speaker 3: some reason. Quto k u u t o Oh yeah, yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I think that's right. I still can't find it anyways,
- 22:12Speaker 3: so they are picked up for a ride, and so
- 22:16Speaker 3: he is pregnant, and that just adds another elemental twist.
- 22:21Speaker 3: That's probably while it's a good twist four Hunter, it's
- 22:27Speaker 3: probably my only critique with the novel.
- 22:31Speaker 2: It's because like stereotyped, like not necessarily stereotype. It is
- 22:37Speaker 2: a what's the other phrase? It is a a trope.
- 22:42Speaker 2: It's a it's a very big trope storyline. Yeah, yeah, trophy.
- 22:47Speaker 3: But like, just with how much the bad Batch has
- 22:51Speaker 3: leaned into fatherly figures and stuff, while it was to
- 22:56Speaker 3: see a mother role, like, it's just.
- 23:00Speaker 2: We have talked about the idea of Star Wars leaning
- 23:05Speaker 2: too heavily into the fatherly storylines recently starting with the
- 23:11Speaker 2: Mandalorian and kind of just like vomiting the fatherly stories
- 23:14Speaker 2: ever since then.
- 23:16Speaker 3: It was nice to get a female perspective.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally. I totally like so He's story the
- 23:27Speaker 2: like like I said before, the twist is funny enough
- 23:31Speaker 2: that we're not going to spoil that. I think it
- 23:33Speaker 2: is a really good part of the story it and
- 23:38Speaker 2: Hunter hits hard with that twist by the way he's
- 23:41Speaker 2: he he kind of goes for the throat on that twist,
- 23:43Speaker 2: and I even thought, like, dude, that's kind of out
- 23:47Speaker 2: of line, like you know, oh yeah, this one, and
- 23:53Speaker 2: like even but even there was times where Hunter was like, yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 2: that was probably a little below the belt, but I
- 23:58Speaker 2: don't care right now, which everybody can get sometimes. I
- 24:04Speaker 2: totally understand that, which I do really love the humanity
- 24:10Speaker 2: in this story because it is a thing. It is
- 24:19Speaker 2: a staple in bad Batch to remind people that these
- 24:26Speaker 2: individuals are not just clones. Yeah, they have their own individualism. Uh,
- 24:34Speaker 2: and that is a part of the story. So I
- 24:37Speaker 2: I really do enjoy that. But Crane, well.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Okay, hang on before we jump into Crane.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Okay, I have one.
- 24:45Speaker 3: More question for you related to the Badge. Okay, because
- 24:48Speaker 3: we have we still need to talk about tech and
- 24:51Speaker 3: fee in this I feel like we need to talk
- 24:52Speaker 3: about them more in depth. But what did you think
- 24:55Speaker 3: about there being no crosshair?
- 24:59Speaker 2: Uh? There was technically, I mean that was, but like
- 25:06Speaker 2: there was no actual cross hair spoilers for the book.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It was a dream that there was, Like that was
- 25:15Speaker 2: the only like real like crosshairs talking moments in this
- 25:19Speaker 2: book was literally in a dream sequence. But there was
- 25:25Speaker 2: a mention of cross Hair several times in this book,
- 25:32Speaker 2: even a mention of Crosshair without actually saying his name,
- 25:37Speaker 2: which kind of made the entire marauder like this stagnant,
- 25:42Speaker 2: like the air could literally you could literally cut something
- 25:45Speaker 2: through the air. I was okay with this once I
- 25:51Speaker 2: really understood kind of where we were in the timeline.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I knew, okay, cross Hair is not a part of
- 26:03Speaker 2: the team.
- 26:04Speaker 3: It doesn't make sense for cross Hair to be here.
- 26:07Speaker 3: But with it being the bad Batch, that is the team.
- 26:13Speaker 2: And that was and that was my thing going into this.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I was kind of afraid that they were going to
- 26:19Speaker 2: force a story where cross Hair was going to be
- 26:23Speaker 2: involved and then make us really overthink the timeline on
- 26:30Speaker 2: how this could fit between wherever they were trying to
- 26:33Speaker 2: make it fit, right. Yeah, That's where I was kind
- 26:36Speaker 2: of being like hesitant when reading this book. I was
- 26:39Speaker 2: really like, oh, man, Crosshair is going to probably show
- 26:42Speaker 2: up now, and that's going to make things weird and
- 26:45Speaker 2: I'm probably not gonna like it because it's probably gonna
- 26:47Speaker 2: feel forced. And there was none of that. And actually
- 26:51Speaker 2: the moment where cross Hair is there for the dream
- 26:56Speaker 2: sequence I thought was a very very touching moments and
- 27:03Speaker 2: a little bit of foreshadowing, a lot of foreshadowing actually
- 27:09Speaker 2: for what we know comes to a head in season
- 27:13Speaker 2: three of The Bad Batch. So I really enjoyed that.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Did you feel like there should have been more cross Hair?
- 27:24Speaker 3: No, he was, He was in place perfectly in that
- 27:28Speaker 3: dream sequence. It really does hit appropriately and still shows
- 27:35Speaker 3: how much he means to the team or in this case,
- 27:39Speaker 3: Hunter as a whole, Like he's still valuable in a sense,
- 27:44Speaker 3: And it really having this dream also, like obviously we
- 27:49Speaker 3: didn't get this chapter in season two, but like having
- 27:53Speaker 3: that and knowing where we end up in season three,
- 27:56Speaker 3: it helps show you how Hunter readapts to having cross
- 27:59Speaker 3: Hair on the team.
- 28:01Speaker 2: And I and that's what I was gonna say, also,
- 28:03Speaker 2: like we I really love the placement of this story
- 28:08Speaker 2: because and I love the placement of the story and
- 28:12Speaker 2: us just getting this story after the entire series has
- 28:15Speaker 2: already dropped, because it these little moments in the book
- 28:20Speaker 2: actually do hit a little bit harder. Knowing that the
- 28:25Speaker 2: the undertone story of bad Batch and this story in particular,
- 28:30Speaker 2: Sanctuary is always going to have that little sprinkle of
- 28:34Speaker 2: you know, fast and furious family and seeing cross Hair
- 28:40Speaker 2: in that dream sequence knowing how cross Hair outwardly reacts
- 28:49Speaker 2: to conversations about cross Hair, you know, the sternness, the
- 28:55Speaker 2: like like he's not disgusted, but it still strikes a nerve.
- 29:00Speaker 2: And then to see how like simple and quiet and
- 29:07Speaker 2: very like true that conversation was with him, Like we
- 29:14Speaker 2: got to see literally, guys, it's literally it feels like
- 29:18Speaker 2: almost half a page. It feels like worth of dialogue.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But like the very first moment in that dream sequence,
- 29:28Speaker 2: Hunter is literally sitting on top of the marauder in
- 29:33Speaker 2: the fetal position and he's.
- 29:35Speaker 3: In space, like he's outside the marauder during a hyperspace trip.
- 29:40Speaker 2: And he is just sitting there. I like, I really
- 29:47Speaker 2: liked seeing that side of Hunters because we're always seeing him,
- 29:52Speaker 2: always angry, always questioning things, always getting after Omega, Like yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 2: so many emotions are always all over with Hunter, and
- 30:03Speaker 2: here was just a very quiet moment and I really
- 30:06Speaker 2: really enjoyed that. I really really did. So let's well,
- 30:15Speaker 2: if you if you're wanting to go a little bit
- 30:17Speaker 2: more in depth with UH with Tech and Fee, so
- 30:19Speaker 2: let's go there. Let's let's touch the bases with our
- 30:22Speaker 2: bad Batch team before we go into the villains.
- 30:25Speaker 3: So sorry, I just I got to talk about the
- 30:29Speaker 3: romance aspect, and I feel like this isn't like you
- 30:32Speaker 3: look at this and this is not traditional romance necessarily,
- 30:39Speaker 3: but it is that romantic attraction maybe not necessary like
- 30:44Speaker 3: probably romance here without necessarily like a sexual component, because
- 30:49Speaker 3: there's a lot of intimacy with Feet and Tech and
- 30:54Speaker 3: growing those growing pains that come with a new relationship,
- 31:00Speaker 3: because I mean that's what it is basically, and you
- 31:05Speaker 3: see how much they grow. But like this is the
- 31:08Speaker 3: last time that Fee basically sees Tech is because they
- 31:12Speaker 3: go off Omega gets kidnapped, and then the tea they
- 31:17Speaker 3: go off trying to figure out where she is, like
- 31:21Speaker 3: and that breaks your heart in Giles touches on it
- 31:27Speaker 3: so effectively and it like breaks your heart, like it
- 31:32Speaker 3: twists the knife even more. And I'm stealing that from
- 31:35Speaker 3: Ryan's review, but like it really does.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Like I said, there's there's a moment and I thought
- 31:41Speaker 2: I had highlighted it and I didn't, But there's a
- 31:46Speaker 2: moment where, uh, it's it's a very calm and quiet
- 31:52Speaker 2: moment and Tech is looking at Fee, but Fee is
- 31:57Speaker 2: not looking at him, and he is like thinking about
- 32:02Speaker 2: all the times that she has been like this flirtatious
- 32:05Speaker 2: individual and like, how oh, it could never really mean
- 32:10Speaker 2: anything seriously, but for a split second he does think
- 32:14Speaker 2: about it seriously. And I don't know how it's going
- 32:18Speaker 2: to play out in the actual print of the book,
- 32:21Speaker 2: but in the digital versions that we're reading, it literally says,
- 32:26Speaker 2: but what if it goes dot dot dot and then
- 32:28Speaker 2: you flip the page and it goes into another scene.
- 32:31Speaker 2: So like I was, I was, like, I love it.
- 32:38Speaker 2: It's guys, it's a whole bunch of cheese, like it
- 32:40Speaker 2: really is. But I love these moments because it's not
- 32:45Speaker 2: something we originally would normally see in a Star Wars book,
- 32:51Speaker 2: correct being able to have these moments, especially again, guys,
- 32:56Speaker 2: Tech is not the romance guy. He is not the
- 33:01Speaker 2: suave individual. He's not the guy with the smolder. He's
- 33:06Speaker 2: he is, of course, and this is not a bad thing.
- 33:10Speaker 2: What we have all made the assumption of the character
- 33:14Speaker 2: of Tech is that he's on the spectrum. He doesn't
- 33:17Speaker 2: think like quote unquote normal individuals. He thinks in perspectives
- 33:22Speaker 2: that could alienate alienate most people, and like his his
- 33:30Speaker 2: most like thought out conversations are with the droid in
- 33:35Speaker 2: this book.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Like.
- 33:38Speaker 2: It's so funny because like, yeah, he's a key character
- 33:41Speaker 2: of the Bad Batch, and of course he's gonna have dialogue.
- 33:44Speaker 2: But like, the most conversation pieces he has in this
- 33:48Speaker 2: book are with the droid, which I do think is
- 33:51Speaker 2: very much to his character. So I I enjoyed it.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I really did. Then there's like he.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Is spectacular as well, Like.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Like there's a moment near the end of the book
- 34:07Speaker 2: where like they are they're they're going off to get
- 34:14Speaker 2: the ship, and then they're like, okay, well, Fee, you
- 34:17Speaker 2: go do this while Tech does this, and Tech knows
- 34:20Speaker 2: that Fee needs to complete her task before he can
- 34:24Speaker 2: do his, and like, while he's held up doing things,
- 34:28Speaker 2: he's like, man, I hope she's done efficient work. Blah
- 34:31Speaker 2: blah blah. And literally the very next line is Fee
- 34:34Speaker 2: did efficient work, and da da da da, And I
- 34:37Speaker 2: just I love that there is such a connection between
- 34:41Speaker 2: the two of them. Yeah, when when you watch the show,
- 34:45Speaker 2: it just looks like a flirtatious mess that would never
- 34:48Speaker 2: go anywhere, and here you actually get like this sense
- 34:53Speaker 2: of like, hey, this could be something.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we're about to jump into our third ad, y'all.
- 35:03Speaker 3: We promise We'll be right back. We promise, all right.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So Crane Okayie, I thought for a split second and
- 35:15Speaker 2: I almost threw my phone. When Crane is introduced, I
- 35:21Speaker 2: was like, God, damn it, there's another throng. I was
- 35:26Speaker 2: about to yell, I was about to text you and
- 35:31Speaker 2: all of these other things, because when this mother is
- 35:35Speaker 2: freaking introduced, he's introduced at Kanto Bite. He is talking
- 35:42Speaker 2: to basically the person that runs the entire casino, and
- 35:50Speaker 2: introduced very like ominously. He's like in the chair of
- 35:55Speaker 2: this dude's desk, and they're talking about like, oh, well,
- 36:00Speaker 2: I'm looking for this person and this person, but hey,
- 36:04Speaker 2: I also know that you know, you run this place,
- 36:08Speaker 2: and hey, if you can help me find these people,
- 36:11Speaker 2: maybe we can you know, share some favors and all
- 36:14Speaker 2: of this stuff. And I was like, okay, like this
- 36:16Speaker 2: is true, natural is b stuff like this, this is normal. Yeah,
- 36:24Speaker 2: And then you get the twist. The twist is, oh,
- 36:28Speaker 2: thanks for your help. By the way, you're all arrested. Yeah,
- 36:34Speaker 2: And the dude's like, excuse me, what about this whole
- 36:38Speaker 2: like favorite thing you said? He's like, well, I'm not
- 36:41Speaker 2: going to charge you for this, but look at all
- 36:45Speaker 2: this other stuff that you did, and he starts naming it.
- 36:49Speaker 2: And while this guy is like naming, while Crane is
- 36:52Speaker 2: naming all of the things that this casino runner is
- 36:55Speaker 2: doing wrong and unlawfully. At Canto Byte, this dude pulls
- 37:01Speaker 2: out a blaster and when he shot the blaster, it
- 37:09Speaker 2: shocked him and I nearly threw my phone because I
- 37:13Speaker 2: was like, there is no effing way that this dude
- 37:16Speaker 2: played freaking three years of chess before like even meeting
- 37:23Speaker 2: this guy, I legitimately thought that he was gonna be like, oh, yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 2: so I actually went into your home like three days
- 37:29Speaker 2: ago and disassembled your blaster blah blah blah, and no,
- 37:32Speaker 2: it's just oh hey, I noticed immediately after you bumped
- 37:36Speaker 2: into me trying to use physical intimidation, I placed this
- 37:44Speaker 2: magnetized yeah, this jolt disc onto your blaster and I
- 37:49Speaker 2: was like, okay, he just has slight of hand, Okay, whatever.
- 37:53Speaker 3: But like.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Even throughout the book, I do you like, he quickly
- 38:02Speaker 2: kind of went downhill for me, Like there was a
- 38:06Speaker 2: moment of like, oh shit, there's another throng, and I
- 38:08Speaker 2: was like, Okay, he's not thrown, but he is competent.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I like this villain already and then once he met
- 38:18Speaker 2: once he met Cecilia, right, Celia, Celia. Sorry, once he
- 38:24Speaker 2: met Celia, he kind of started to go downhill quick. Uh.
- 38:29Speaker 2: And it's like this idea of what we've talked about.
- 38:35Speaker 2: The only way that the Empire gets promotions, the only
- 38:43Speaker 2: way the Empire goes up is through favors, by pushing
- 38:48Speaker 2: other people down doing all this other stuff. And one
- 38:51Speaker 2: of like we said, one of these days, we're gonna
- 38:55Speaker 2: probably read a book or watch a show where that's
- 38:58Speaker 2: all gonna go downhill for somebody. Technically we saw that
- 39:01Speaker 2: a little bit in and or right, but this is
- 39:06Speaker 2: exactly that story. Like we see somebody who is super
- 39:11Speaker 2: confident and super on top of his game immediately just
- 39:17Speaker 2: get freaking dog whistled, and like he is on a
- 39:21Speaker 2: leash the moment he meets Celia, because there's a moment
- 39:27Speaker 2: he doesn't know what to.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Do because he's not he's used to being the person
- 39:33Speaker 3: that like can get his way, and like he doesn't
- 39:37Speaker 3: know what to do when there's another alpha in the midst,
- 39:41Speaker 3: like because he does the same thing with you, Lauren,
- 39:45Speaker 3: because he manipulates the records guy, yeah to getting what
- 39:49Speaker 3: he wants. But then when you Lauren finds out what
- 39:52Speaker 3: Celia has been up to, he's like.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Ahh no, like, dude, what are you doing? Man like?
- 39:59Speaker 2: And that's what I wanted to ask you about. I
- 40:02Speaker 2: think this is a This is a moderate spoiler, but
- 40:06Speaker 2: still not enough of Celia's character to ruin the story
- 40:10Speaker 2: for anybody. So guys, if you literally want to skip
- 40:16Speaker 2: ahead five minutes or so, you can do so. Uh
- 40:20Speaker 2: spoilers in three two one, Katie, how did you feel
- 40:25Speaker 2: about Celia pulling in the uh uh the the rich
- 40:34Speaker 2: card and saying.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Rich I know people card?
- 40:38Speaker 2: Yeah? So so uh oh, so how is she doing?
- 40:43Speaker 3: We know, I know the Emperor's first name.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Like yeah, uh? And and uh who was the other
- 40:51Speaker 2: person that she name dropped?
- 40:53Speaker 3: Uh?
- 40:54Speaker 2: Was it? Yeah? Moss? Like oh and and what about Moss?
- 40:59Speaker 2: Like oh, you know what? And she like talks to
- 41:01Speaker 2: her right hand guy and she's like, oh, can you
- 41:03Speaker 2: can you go contact Moss and tell him that uh
- 41:07Speaker 2: oh what was the uh? What is what is your uh?
- 41:11Speaker 2: Your name? And like you know, talking to Crane, Oh,
- 41:14Speaker 2: tell it, tell them that Crane's team is here, so
- 41:18Speaker 2: that way they can get whatever they need to help
- 41:21Speaker 2: this investigation forward and I'm just like I I kind
- 41:26Speaker 2: of rolled my eyes at it. But how do you
- 41:29Speaker 2: feel because again, like I we said this at the
- 41:32Speaker 2: beginning of this review, there is a real world concept
- 41:37Speaker 2: with this character that is very much telling of the times.
- 41:45Speaker 2: So in retrospect of that, do you feel like, was
- 41:51Speaker 2: it a little eye rolly? Did it fit well for
- 41:54Speaker 2: the story? Do you like? And because like there was
- 41:58Speaker 2: a little bit and again, uh, I think you do
- 42:02Speaker 2: want to talk about this, but we will. We will
- 42:05Speaker 2: put at the end, yes, so that there is a
- 42:08Speaker 2: bit of a uh the living force with uh John's
- 42:15Speaker 2: uh oh shoot the author of.
- 42:18Speaker 3: John Jackson Miller.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Yes, John Jackson Miller, there was a similar moment yep
- 42:25Speaker 2: that it almost mirrored the moment in all honesty, and
- 42:28Speaker 2: I was like, oh, this very much feels like what
- 42:31Speaker 2: happened there, So we will talk about that. But even
- 42:36Speaker 2: like there, like we see that she also tries to
- 42:42Speaker 2: pull her weight there, So how do you feel about that? Oh,
- 42:50Speaker 2: I'm rich, I can do whatever I want. Here's my power.
- 42:54Speaker 3: I definitely saw that coming, especially after her interactions with Fee,
- 43:00Speaker 3: because Fee is all about like, Okay, I'm going to
- 43:03Speaker 3: take what other people are taking that doesn't don't belong
- 43:06Speaker 3: to them, but if I know it belongs to a
- 43:09Speaker 3: specific culture, my goal is to return it to them.
- 43:13Speaker 3: And so her interactions with Phi definitely were telling that
- 43:18Speaker 3: that was coming.
- 43:21Speaker 5: And the action sequence of Tech and Omega and Fie
- 43:26Speaker 5: leaving with record in that where epic, But like, I
- 43:31Speaker 5: definitely saw it coming.
- 43:32Speaker 3: I wasn't surprised in the slightest. To answer your question,
- 43:38Speaker 3: She's definitely like a oh, Deddy's given me everything I've
- 43:42Speaker 3: ever wanted in my entire life. Spoiled rich girl.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, very much so.
- 43:52Speaker 3: But Crane, I do love Crane, and he's got motivations
- 43:57Speaker 3: for hunting a credit thief. I'll say who the credit
- 44:04Speaker 3: thief was in this instance, because that is the twist
- 44:08Speaker 3: that you're talking about, right.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Yes, but also the credit thief's partner. I will say
- 44:19Speaker 2: that that I think that is a bigger twist.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm saving that.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but we'll keep kind of all of that in
- 44:30Speaker 2: the dark.
- 44:32Speaker 3: We're done with spoilers, because I was marking.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Yes, yes, we we we are. We are done with spoilers, until,
- 44:40Speaker 2: of course you want to talk about that scene with
- 44:43Speaker 2: that one cameo.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so what were you going to say, I'm sorry.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Well, I was just gonna say, uh. The the one
- 44:54Speaker 2: twist that is with the thieves quote, there's actually a
- 45:02Speaker 2: phrase that Hunter says that made me guess it immediately.
- 45:08Speaker 2: And I will tell you that after a cut off here,
- 45:13Speaker 2: I'll let you know. And I actually haven't notated, but
- 45:17Speaker 2: but yeah, I loved Crane like that. There was a
- 45:22Speaker 2: love hate relationship with Crane as far as like I
- 45:27Speaker 2: a lot of emotions. It was it was oh shit,
- 45:29Speaker 2: another throng. Oh he's a cool villain. Oh You're not
- 45:34Speaker 2: so cool anymore, because there's even this moment like so
- 45:38Speaker 2: again he's a competent person because there's even this moment
- 45:41Speaker 2: where like and we hardly ever see these moments, so
- 45:45Speaker 2: I was kind of appreciative of it. But like when
- 45:49Speaker 2: they are in the company of Celia's estate, her right
- 45:58Speaker 2: hand is like, is there anything that we plain Parlan? Yes,
- 46:01Speaker 2: Parland is like, oh, is there anything that we can
- 46:03Speaker 2: do for you? Is there anything else? Everybody stays silent,
- 46:06Speaker 2: and then one random individual is like, oh, can you
- 46:09Speaker 2: give us some of these like really famous cakes that
- 46:12Speaker 2: are from around this region. And he's like, oh, yeah,
- 46:15Speaker 2: I'll get those to you right away, and this.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Should be our final ad break. So y'all thanks for
- 46:23Speaker 3: bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Everybody is silent, and then Crane goes to him. It's like,
- 46:32Speaker 2: tell me, where did you hear about these cakes? And
- 46:36Speaker 2: he's about to say something and the Crane literally grabs
- 46:40Speaker 2: his tongue and yanks it down to where he's like
- 46:43Speaker 2: whispering in his ear and he's like, hey, you little shit,
- 46:48Speaker 2: did you not know what happens when isb or the
- 46:54Speaker 2: Empire is being hosted? In these types of scenarios, we
- 46:59Speaker 2: literally have to reimburse every little thing that would do
- 47:05Speaker 2: that includes food, shelter, and everything else. So I really
- 47:12Speaker 2: do hope these cakes are as good as your mother
- 47:16Speaker 2: says they are, because we're having to pay for them.
- 47:21Speaker 2: This isn't just a humble thing that these people are
- 47:25Speaker 2: doing for us. Yeah, I thought that was hilarious, because again,
- 47:29Speaker 2: we don't get a whole lot of moments where like
- 47:33Speaker 2: the Empire does something a little funny, like they're always
- 47:37Speaker 2: seen in type of a in such a like of
- 47:40Speaker 2: course villainous light, which they should, but having even this
- 47:45Speaker 2: kind of moment kind of made me chuckle, and then
- 47:47Speaker 2: I was like, oh shit, like they're at least.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Trying to pretend that they're decent.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Like yeah, like the fact that the Empire would even
- 47:56Speaker 2: attempt to reimburse people for this type of stuff was
- 48:00Speaker 2: a little surprising, but I mean it is what it is,
- 48:07Speaker 2: so I like that. But there's these moments in that,
- 48:11Speaker 2: like where they're staying in the state of Celia and
- 48:18Speaker 2: Crane's right hand her name started with a D. I
- 48:21Speaker 2: can't remember what it was.
- 48:23Speaker 3: She's a very minor character.
- 48:25Speaker 2: I think it's like drand something something of that sort.
- 48:30Speaker 2: She is a very minor character, but there is a
- 48:35Speaker 2: respect for that character. And then to see what literally
- 48:41Speaker 2: happens in just once throwaway sentence yep to that team,
- 48:46Speaker 2: including that character, I was like, dude, like that just
- 48:53Speaker 2: it happens so quick.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Yep, he turned around on her really quickly. And hearing
- 49:02Speaker 3: his history, which is too spoilery to really talk about, yeah, yeah,
- 49:08Speaker 3: we don't get him growing up, but we get his
- 49:11Speaker 3: early years during the Clone Wars, and it's really interesting
- 49:15Speaker 3: to see what he did and what that makes him
- 49:20Speaker 3: as an imperial overall.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was really interesting, and there was
- 49:28Speaker 2: a lot of almost inner dialogue asque moments with him
- 49:33Speaker 2: where you kind of get his sense of thinking in
- 49:37Speaker 2: every situation that he's in, whether that be at Kento Bite,
- 49:41Speaker 2: whether that be when he was going after the bad Batch,
- 49:45Speaker 2: whether that be in the moments with his team or
- 49:49Speaker 2: in the moments where he's alone with Celia. Like, I
- 49:52Speaker 2: really liked how they kind of narrowed in on him
- 49:58Speaker 2: as an individual. Yeah, because for one, we got three
- 50:03Speaker 2: seasons of the Bad Batch. If this entire book was
- 50:07Speaker 2: just in some sort of perspective of the Bad Batch
- 50:09Speaker 2: without getting this type of story, I don't know if
- 50:13Speaker 2: I would have loved it as much. But we got
- 50:15Speaker 2: to sit down in the thick of it with this
- 50:19Speaker 2: villain or with these villains of the story. And you can,
- 50:27Speaker 2: of course, like with every villain in every story, whether
- 50:31Speaker 2: that be book, animation, movies, whatever, people are, the creators
- 50:38Speaker 2: of these stories usually want you to sit there and
- 50:42Speaker 2: ponder like, hey, are you going to sympathize with this villain?
- 50:46Speaker 2: Are you not going to sympathize with this villain? And
- 50:48Speaker 2: this just gave you the opportunity to do so. I
- 50:54Speaker 2: I like the choice because you can, like I'm sure
- 51:01Speaker 2: there's people who are going to sit there and have
- 51:04Speaker 2: a sick and twisted kind of narrative thought process of like, oh, yeah,
- 51:10Speaker 2: this crane dude was doing everything any other person would do,
- 51:14Speaker 2: you know, and to be able to get enough information
- 51:19Speaker 2: to actually sit there and think about that. I can
- 51:21Speaker 2: appreciate that, especially getting the narrative with him with the
- 51:30Speaker 2: bad Batch and it not feeling like, oh, we got
- 51:33Speaker 2: too much of him but not enough of the bad Batch,
- 51:37Speaker 2: or like we got too much of him but not
- 51:41Speaker 2: enough of Omega or Fee. You know. So, I really
- 51:47Speaker 2: do like when there is a healthy balance between getting
- 51:54Speaker 2: the villain perspective and getting the hero's perspective for sure.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I see, we have a question from Kevin Davis
- 52:04Speaker 3: in the chat we will be I will answer that
- 52:06Speaker 3: at the end of this review. I don't want to
- 52:08Speaker 3: necessarily derail us from the main topic. Thanks for the question, Kevin.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Yes, I am actually jotting that down so that way
- 52:16Speaker 2: we can answer that at the very end of.
- 52:18Speaker 3: This and this should be our final ad break. So y'all,
- 52:23Speaker 3: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 52:26Speaker 3: right back.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Talked mildly about Celia. I don't think there's a lot
- 52:31Speaker 2: there without spoiling a whole bunch with everything else. So
- 52:37Speaker 2: let's go ahead. I think this is nearing the end.
- 52:42Speaker 2: You wanted to bring up this cameo and what it
- 52:45Speaker 2: means for like the other stories within Star Wars you
- 52:48Speaker 2: mentioned and or as well, So tell me what was
- 52:52Speaker 2: your thought process when reading.
- 52:54Speaker 3: This so full spoilers, guys, Vader takes out Oh well,
- 53:04Speaker 3: I guess he doesn't necessarily take out Crane, but he
- 53:06Speaker 3: takes out Celia.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Uh, in a in a very Rogue One esque scene,
- 53:19Speaker 3: I feel like.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Well, no, I I do. I do want to go ahead,
- 53:23Speaker 2: and like I said prior, I want to hark back
- 53:27Speaker 2: to the Living Force. This is straight up a like
- 53:33Speaker 2: because the really creepy thing about the Living Force, and
- 53:36Speaker 2: this is an older story, so I'm not spoiling anything
- 53:38Speaker 2: for something that has literally been out for months. Darth
- 53:43Speaker 2: Baite Uh, Darth Baul came into that scene. Mm hmm,
- 53:49Speaker 2: like a villain of a horror movie. He came out
- 53:51Speaker 2: of the shadows and just like bah, you know, yeah,
- 53:55Speaker 2: just murdered that dude. Where As this like there is
- 54:00Speaker 2: a moment where like Vader is talking to Celia and
- 54:06Speaker 2: was like, Oh, I'm like basically like I'm your worst
- 54:09Speaker 2: nightmare baby, like you thought's like you thought you were
- 54:13Speaker 2: big shit, I'm bigger shit. Like what are you gonna
- 54:16Speaker 2: do about it? Like? I love how menacing darth Vader
- 54:20Speaker 2: is in the scene.
- 54:21Speaker 3: It was such a good scene. And was it needed
- 54:26Speaker 3: to make this an epic story?
- 54:29Speaker 2: No, but it was cool. I think that this was
- 54:36Speaker 2: literally placed into this book need like basically just because
- 54:47Speaker 2: I don't think there could have been a very satisfying
- 54:52Speaker 2: taste in reader's mouths if at the end of this
- 54:58Speaker 2: we all had to just collectively say, hey, the rich
- 55:04Speaker 2: person got away with all the crap that she did.
- 55:07Speaker 3: True, very true, you know, like I like.
- 55:13Speaker 2: And it's it's it's and it's not a big thing,
- 55:15Speaker 2: like like honestly, like she is a minor enough character
- 55:21Speaker 2: by like the end of like the climax, I didn't
- 55:26Speaker 2: forget about her, But there was such a heavy moment
- 55:31Speaker 2: with Crane and with the characters that are involved there
- 55:36Speaker 2: that I was really focused on that. So when all
- 55:40Speaker 2: of a sudden I see Parlan getting taken out by
- 55:43Speaker 2: darth Vader and then Celia also seeing darth Vader, I
- 55:48Speaker 2: was like, what the hell is this? And then I
- 55:51Speaker 2: kind of sit on it and I'm thinking, oh, wait
- 55:55Speaker 2: a second, like this is just because the last sentence
- 55:59Speaker 2: of that chapter is literally she never learned Darth Vader's.
- 56:04Speaker 3: Name, which was so cool. Our job is to know everything,
- 56:12Speaker 3: and knowing that she never got like the name of
- 56:16Speaker 3: her murderer like epic.
- 56:19Speaker 2: I love that It's it is a literal slap in
- 56:23Speaker 2: the face, I mean, slash of the lightsaber whatever to
- 56:29Speaker 2: this character. And I like this because again, you think
- 56:38Speaker 2: that you can just throw away, throw around the emperor's name,
- 56:44Speaker 2: as if you can just do whatever you want with
- 56:48Speaker 2: that name and not think that the empire, like the empire,
- 56:53Speaker 2: let alone the emperor himself, is gonna do something about it,
- 56:59Speaker 2: like come on, like like having somebody with that much power,
- 57:06Speaker 2: And again, the galaxy doesn't even know how much power
- 57:11Speaker 2: the emperor really has. Yep. So thinking that you have
- 57:18Speaker 2: enough power to just be like, oh, hey, you know
- 57:22Speaker 2: the person that rolls over the entire galaxy, me and
- 57:25Speaker 2: him are cool. We're cool. But to be completely honest,
- 57:30Speaker 2: I think there was a moment with Crane that did
- 57:35Speaker 2: the same thing.
- 57:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so there's.
- 57:39Speaker 2: A there's a moment where there like a group of
- 57:45Speaker 2: ISB agents are chasing after bad Batch. Yeah, and they
- 57:51Speaker 2: bad Batch gets away. Crane takes one of the members
- 57:56Speaker 2: of the icebe his leg is broken. He's basically interrogating him.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Everybody is sitting there watching this interrogation, and when Crane
- 58:11Speaker 2: didn't like the answer he gave, he shut him twice
- 58:14Speaker 2: in the chest. Every single one of the soldiers brought
- 58:18Speaker 2: up their gun to shoot Crane. Every single one of
- 58:23Speaker 2: them was like, Hey, you may be a commanding officer,
- 58:29Speaker 2: but we're not stupid enough to just let you do
- 58:31Speaker 2: whatever the fuck you want, because we know what the
- 58:33Speaker 2: Empire is like, and we're not gonna be you know,
- 58:37Speaker 2: we're not gonna be the ones to have to tell
- 58:39Speaker 2: other superiors, let alone the Emperor. Hey, this is what happened.
- 58:43Speaker 2: We just let this dude get away from it. And
- 58:45Speaker 2: then Crane, I literally think that he just pulled out
- 58:51Speaker 2: the bullshit card and was like, oh, you think I
- 58:55Speaker 2: was out of line? Well, did you know that the
- 58:57Speaker 2: Empire actually implemented this new law? Oh, this says this, this,
- 59:01Speaker 2: and this. Oh you want to fact check me, just
- 59:04Speaker 2: so you're aware. If you fact check me, this is
- 59:07Speaker 2: basically what he says. He doesn't say it verbatim like this,
- 59:10Speaker 2: but in the undertone of what he is legitimately saying,
- 59:14Speaker 2: it is basically like, hey, just so you know, if
- 59:17Speaker 2: you attempt to fact check me, I will shoot you
- 59:20Speaker 2: where you stand right now, yep. And then nobody agree
- 59:24Speaker 2: disagreed with it, and so like, this is how the
- 59:29Speaker 2: Empire does things. Of course, Celia, wanting to be a
- 59:34Speaker 2: part of the empire, wanting to throw her money around,
- 59:36Speaker 2: wanting more and more power, she attempted to do it,
- 59:41Speaker 2: and she got her come.
- 59:42Speaker 6: Up and sheaf o yes, one hundred and I just
- 59:51Speaker 6: love how you let like you could in all honesty
- 59:56Speaker 6: like legitimately.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Well, actually no, not legitim. Well look, I hold on,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: I'm thinking of timeline. Okay, So realistically, I am pretty
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: sure Katie can fact check me on this. Realistically, if
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: they did not put Darth Vader's name at the end
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: of that chapter, we would have been left saying which
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: inquisitor was that?
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: Oh no, I don't know if you would have, because
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: none of the inquisitors were powerful enough to know about
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: the death start. And so Celia is investigating, like, what
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: is the emperor?
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: That's true, that's true. So yeah, yeah, that is that
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: is one of the That is the one of the small,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: little like side stories that is going on in this
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: is like her in she thinks, is like, oh, hey,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: like and I also think this story was kind of funny. Uh.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: She She's like, she goes to Craye and she's like, so,
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: what is the Emperor building? And he's like, I have
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: no idea what you're talking about. She's like, oh, so
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: it's a secret and it's big, and he's like, what
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: the hell are you talking about. She's like, well, I
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: know because of this, and he's like, just because I
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: said I don't know doesn't mean shit, Like what are
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: you talking about? And she kind of looks like an idiot,
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: but like, she is so invested in doing all of
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: this because you had said at the beginning of this
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: review she does have some sort of company and or
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: investments that deal with construction. And when her and Crane
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: are talking about it, he's like, oh, so you're just
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: really pissed off that the Empire isn't using your assets
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: to build this, and she's like maybe, but also you
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: could help me in this situation, and I could help you.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Blah blah blah, and and like I I thought that
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: was a little funny, but you're right, like there there is,
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: there is the the like of course whenever when when
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: she said, hey, what are you building? I know it's big.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Of course everybody reading this is gonna be like, oh,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: the death Star. So you're right. I don't think there
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: was any inquisitor and this.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: Should be our final ad break. So y'all, thanks for
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Do we do that for a fact?
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: Though? Well, okay, so this book. Somebody on Instagram posted
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: the timeline which this book when you get the camp
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: bit words, when you get the published book. We did
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: not get a timeline in front of this but the
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: advanced reader's copy. But the published book has the timeline
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: in front of it. So you have Master of Evil,
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: which takes place during Charles Soul's comic run, yes, which
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: is very early on, and then this book, which is
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: season two, episode thirteen between that, so I feel like,
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: I don't I don't think there's an inquisitor at this point.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: I think they're all dead, right, No, because.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: The inquisitors are like later on, so like they're all getting.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: At this point yeah, this is early.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: This is right after Revenge of the Sith.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: That's true, that is true. Okay, yeah, okay, because for
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: a Swiss second, I was like, is this like because
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: when they said lightsabers, the only thing that really got
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: you to be like, okay, this is Darth Vader is
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: they did put an emphasis on his tone, his breathing,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: the the mechanicalness of it, and so you're like, Okay,
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: this is done Vader. But still I think, like, I
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: think it might have been a fun little twist to
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: just be like to not put his name, But again,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I think there has I almost want to ask Tom
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: if there was a reasoning on why this was so
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: similar to the ending of the Living Force, to see
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: if it was on purpose, Like that's genuinely just me.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: He's very open to questions guys, Like I've asked him
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: stuff during the Advanced Reader's copy era, like before the
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: book comes out, and he's answered. So if you want
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: to shoot him a message, like.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: I think I'm going to, I'm gonna, I'm gonna. I'm
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: gonna probably do it right after we recorded, and then
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: next week I'll give you guys an update. But yeah,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I really love the scene I thought it was very
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: very cool, like you had also said very rogue one ask,
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: and honestly like, as long as the story mm, I
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: do like because I even said it in our last review,
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: and I say our last review that being Trials of
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: the Jedi, I still think there needs to be a
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: little bit more time to pass. But I had given
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: the suggestion to Tom, if you're listening to this, or
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: anybody at the film, if you if Lucasfilm wanted a
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: year of the Sith, because we don't know that much,
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Like there's still so little that we know, right, and
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: so if they had this narrative of like, oh, we're
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: gonna do a whole bunch of Sith post credit scenes
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: in our novels, I think that would be kind of fun.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Like I'm I'm gonna be the guy that is like, hey,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: we kind of need this, And the only reason why
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: is like just the imagine the next book that we
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: get be somewhere between bad Batch Sanctuary and uh oh shoot,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: uh what's the.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Master of Evil?
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: No, not Master of Evil? Oh well, I guess that
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: could that.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: Technically before this and then you have this one right after.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Okay, So so in that case, what if the very
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: next book, we do get, whether it be Master of
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Evil or not. Uh, we get some sort of post
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: credit scene that eludes to uh the oh, what's that
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: book called the freaking Luke Skywalker Uh? And shadows Shadows
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: of the Sith. I was gonna say something of the Seth. Yes,
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: shadows of the Seth. What if you had a post
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: credit scene that eluded to Shadows of the Sith? Yeah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: I think that would be kind of fun. And again,
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: it could be it like somebody would be reading that
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: book and not not have read Shadows of the Sith
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: and be like, I have no idea what this means,
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: but it sounds cool. But then there's like a whole
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: group of us that are like, oh my god, this
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: is amazing. Like I don't know, I I just think
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: that like these small little things. And just because I
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: am super hyped over that one three page chapter in
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Trials of the Jedi, that still has me like, guys, again,
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: I will continue to say this. I said this to
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: my friend who is literally starting Phase three literally this week.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: I told him, when I finished Trials of the Jedi,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: that three page chapter in Trials of the Jedi fundamentally
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: changed the way I look at Star Wars like it's
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: it's just so good and I need more of it.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: I need more of it because if you take that chapter,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: take the ending chapter of the Living Force, and you
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: take this chapter, it's like these like there is clearly
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: something that very much is like, hey, somewhere an editorial
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: is like, hey, we need something like this and every
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: one of our books now because that's how it feels. Yep,
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: I want more. I'm sorry, I just.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Want they're still good, Like I'm so happy with this
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: your Star Wars books, like, and I know Adam Christopher's
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: gonna kill the Master of Evil. I'm excited for Tessa
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: Griten's book next week.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Oh my god, there's so much Like I'm literally looking
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: at our brain dump right now and I'm like, oh,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: I immediately have to start reading the uh no spoilers
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: but Patreon book that we're doing, Like so it's there's
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: so many books, guys, like, so we are super excited
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: for all of this. You just said, uh, Crystal Crown, right,
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Crystal Crown is coming out very very soon. We have uh,
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: not only Masters of Evil, but we have in our
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: breakdown and we've said it on air before. So I
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: need to purchase it already, even though I am gonna
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: purchase the new version, the Revenge of the Sith novelization. Yeah,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: so like and like, a part of me doesn't want
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: to buy an old copy because I do want to
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: see all the annotations in it, in everything. Yeah, I
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: probably will. I like, Oh, is there a uh, there's
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: gotta be an audiobook. There's not an audiobook of this?
- 1:10:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I wonder if they'll release it for the for
- 1:10:07Speaker 7: the for the annivers We bet money on that.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Ah, that's gonna be fun, I hope.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: So. Okay, so we need to answer Kevin Denis's question. Okay,
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: apparently there is I missed it. Okay, this was released
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: January seven. The length is thirteen hours and thirty nine minutes.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: Apparently it's in my library. I don't remember owning this audiobook.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Well, there you go. I will probably look into that
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: almost immediately. So, Kevin Davis, there is.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: An abridged copy, so make sure you get the right copy.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Make sure you get the right one. Yes, yes, yes,
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: oh sorry, you clicked it. Kevin Davis did ask or
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: he did stay in the comments. If David Filoni becomes
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: the president of Lucasfilm do you think he will green
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: light Clone Wars live action Clone Wars or Rebels live
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: action for Disney Plus or theatrical. I think that we
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: are getting that with Ahsoka, so I don't think that
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: he will necessarily go out of his way to say, hey,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: we need a Clone Wars live action show, because I
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: do think Clone Wars is his baby and he doesn't
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: want to have to like rewrite that or anything. He
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: is continuing that in live action with ah Soca, and
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: thus also continuing it assumingly in his theatrical movie that
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: technically still hasn't been announced as far as like the title,
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: So so that's what I believe. I will say. I
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: think that we could possibly see a live action show
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: that is Clone Wars or Rebel esque in like the future,
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: like post sequel trilogy era, because I think that Filoni
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: is a TV guy. We've said this multiple times throughout
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: this show that he is kind of really in his
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: element when he does TV. I personally think it is
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: animation because he has been very hit or missed with
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: live action, So I would personally want an animated show
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: post sequel trilogy if they ever decide to do more
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Star Wars TV. Because as of right now, we are
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: hearing two different thoughts. Hey, they no longer want to
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: do Star Wars TV, and oh hey, Kenobe season two
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: is actually in the works, you know. So it's it's
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: kind of all over the place.
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and I have to wonder if they would potentially
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: use Obi Wan Kenobi season two as well as Soca
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: season two to get the Clone Wars live action. I
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: definitely think Rebels live action isn't going to happen just
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: because of what we have with Ahsoka. I feel like
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: that's the live action continuation of Rebels. However, I do
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: I could potentially see like a Clone Wars live action
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: special presentation to get you and Hayden, and I'm assuming
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: Ariana green Blat is going to continue playing Ahsoka and
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: you can do like a special presentation. Maybe. I don't
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: think they would go theatrical, even though they would probably
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: like theatrical money that we go with. I would hope
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: they wouldn't go theatrical. So that's my opinion. Thanks for
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: the question, Kevin.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I really do appreciate it.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: Ah, So, Clay, where can they find you?
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Yeah? With that, that is the end of the show. Guys.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: You guys can always find me at Fanboy, clay on
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: Blue Scott, on Instagram, on threads, and on TikTok for
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: the time being. Once that new TikTok app is up
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: and live, I probably won't be I know I won't
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: be using it, but yeah, this month has been absolutely
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: horrible when it comes to reading. As you heard in
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: the beginning of this review, I procrastinateishit ton, but that's
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: also because work has been absolutely insane. So I'm going
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: to try to get my bootstraps back on and get
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: to reading. Like I said, we have a lot of
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: reading to do in the next three months, and there's
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: still a lot of books that I personally want to
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: read before the year is over. So if you would
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: like to follow me on that journey, please follow me
