- 0:00Speaker 1: And as we all know, it was indeed with the
- 0:02Speaker 1: deepest sadness that we learned of the passing of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: Queen overnight. I know that plenty of you in contact
- 0:10Speaker 1: with us already this morning to really remind us of
- 0:13Speaker 1: your memories of the Queen, particularly if she had when
- 0:17Speaker 1: she'd spent time in the Northern Territory. But joining me
- 0:20Speaker 1: on the line right now is the Administrator of the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Northern Territory, her Honor, the Honorable Vicky O'Halleran ao. Good
- 0:28Speaker 1: morning to you, Good morning to your administrator.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Good morning, Katie, Good morning listeners.
- 0:35Speaker 1: It's such sad news overnight, many of us waking to
- 0:39Speaker 1: to the terribly sad news, Your Honor, what was your
- 0:42Speaker 1: reaction when you when you learned?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yes, I suppose in many ways, Katie, over the last
- 0:49Speaker 2: couple of weeks we've been embracing ourselves knowing that her
- 0:53Speaker 2: Majesty has been unwell and that family were we're gathering
- 0:58Speaker 2: at our moral and but yes, you just it's just
- 1:03Speaker 2: the shock that you go into. It's so extremely sad
- 1:07Speaker 2: and you feel a deep sense of lots, as I
- 1:10Speaker 2: think many other Territorians are feeling today, And to.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Think that just a few days ago she was indeed
- 1:18Speaker 1: swearing in the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It says a great deal about her, doesn't you know.
- 1:28Speaker 2: She said that she would serve for her life and
- 1:33Speaker 2: whether it be long or short, and indeed she did
- 1:36Speaker 2: right up to the last moment.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And we were remembering fondly on the week that was
- 1:42Speaker 1: this morning as well, and the fact that she became
- 1:45Speaker 1: the queen at such a young age, and didn't she
- 1:48Speaker 1: rise to the occasion.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yes, you know, I often think it was just meant
- 1:54Speaker 2: to be, wasn't it her accession to the throne that's
- 2:00Speaker 2: such a young age, and the way that she took
- 2:03Speaker 2: on her roles and responsibility. She was a steady hand.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And I think the stability for ratings for so long
- 2:12Speaker 2: has had an enormous impact on us all. I don't
- 2:15Speaker 2: think we often realize as human being how much we
- 2:17Speaker 2: appreciate the security and stability around us until there are
- 2:23Speaker 2: times like this, And you know, as governments change, it
- 2:28Speaker 2: can be upsetting or at unsettling for us. But her
- 2:34Speaker 2: majesty was always there, and as I think everybody has
- 2:39Speaker 2: said this morning, she reigned with such dignity and with
- 2:41Speaker 2: such an inspiration to so many.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Your honor, How do you think that you know or
- 2:47Speaker 1: what kind of impact do you think that she had
- 2:49Speaker 1: on the Northern Territory because we know that she visited
- 2:52Speaker 1: on a number of occasions.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yes, she visited on five occasion and five occasions. And
- 3:00Speaker 2: this is my fifth year in my role as administrator,
- 3:04Speaker 2: and as I travel around the territory and certainly even
- 3:08Speaker 2: out Bush, people have a story to tell me about
- 3:10Speaker 2: when they met the Queen, when they saw the Queen
- 3:13Speaker 2: from Afar, when she visited their school or gardens, oval
- 3:20Speaker 2: and if she spoke to them, exactly what she said
- 3:22Speaker 2: and how she said it and what she wore. I
- 3:25Speaker 2: think she had an incredible presence. I think my impression
- 3:31Speaker 2: when meeting with her was she sensed how discerning and
- 3:34Speaker 2: courageous she was, but also how kind and considerate she
- 3:38Speaker 2: was as a person. And that impact I think has
- 3:42Speaker 2: resonated with many other Territorians who've had the pleasure to
- 3:46Speaker 2: be in her company.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Now I understand that Territorians will indeed have the opportunity
- 3:51Speaker 1: to pay tribute to the Queen as well, won't they.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Oh indeed, we'll be opening Government House tomorrow confirming the
- 4:01Speaker 2: Times and we'll get those out to everybody and certainly
- 4:04Speaker 2: on our social media accounts today and our website. And
- 4:09Speaker 2: for those who are not living in the Top End
- 4:11Speaker 2: or remote or away for whatever reason, we encourage people
- 4:17Speaker 2: to go online. There is a link on our website
- 4:20Speaker 2: and on our Facebook page today so people can express
- 4:24Speaker 2: their condolences online. Already we're receiving floral tributes and other
- 4:30Speaker 2: tributes and we're encouraging people to leave those on the
- 4:34Speaker 2: nature strip her at Government House in front of the
- 4:36Speaker 2: beautiful pink Bogan Billia hedge there. And of course there
- 4:42Speaker 2: are a lot of phone calls coming through to Government
- 4:44Speaker 2: House today, but the team and I are ready and
- 4:48Speaker 2: it is businesses usually in many ways, as we think
- 4:52Speaker 2: Her Majesty would want those important engagements that we've already
- 4:56Speaker 2: committed to. We respect it's not a time operation. It's
- 5:00Speaker 2: a time for thinking about all of the great work
- 5:03Speaker 2: that she has done. But we will be steadfast and
- 5:06Speaker 2: get on with our job.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Well, Your Honor, the Administrator of the Northern Territory, we
- 5:13Speaker 1: really appreciate your time this morning. I know that you
- 5:15Speaker 1: are certainly a very busy person this morning. We appreciate
- 5:19Speaker 1: you taking the time to have a quick chat with us.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Anytime, Katie, Thank you very much.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Thank you. That is the Administrator of the Northern Territory,

- 5:59Speaker 1: front lawns there outside of Government House. Very keen to
- 6:03Speaker 1: hear from you if it is something that you're going
- 6:05Speaker 1: to be doing this morning. If you may be down
