- Sean Graver: So in their version of the story, it's never their fault. Not once. Not ever. Hey, I'm Sean, and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. So the apostle Paul writes to the church in Galatia, for each will have to bear his own load. And that's Galatians six, five. It comes right after a verse about carrying each other's burdens. So scripture holds. Both things at once. Help people when they're genuinely struggling, but everyone still owns their own load. There's a particular kind of coworker who's always being wronged. The manager's out to get them. The team never appreciates them. Every deadline they miss, every mistake they make, somehow, if you listen long enough, it traces back to someone else's fault. And look, sometimes people really are treated unfairly. That happens and and it matters, but this is different. This is a pattern where responsibility never seems to land anywhere near them. And it's draining to work alongside, because you end up in one of two places. Either you keep agreeing with a story that isn't quite true, or you push back and suddenly you're the villain and their next version of events. And here's what helped me with this. So you can have compassion for someone's pain without adopting their narrative. You can say, Well, that sounds frustrating, without saying, You're right, it's everyone else's fault. Those are different sentences and the difference matters. And if it's you, if you notice yourself reaching for It's not my fault more often than feels honest, that's really worth reflecting on. Because owning your load isn't about carrying shame. It's about being someone whose word means something because you're willing to say that one's on me when it actually is. So let's pray. God give us eyes to see real hurt. And real unfairness when they're right in front of us, and wisdom to recognize the difference when it's something else. help us love people without absorbing every story they tell us about themselves. And search our own hearts too. show us where we're quick to blame and and and slow to own. We want to carry our load with honesty and integrity. In Jesus' name, amen. Go make today count.
